Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:08Speaker 1: Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, a showdown
- 0:12Speaker 1: between content creators and an influencer event goes viral. Adele Petropoulos'
- 0:17Speaker 1: iconic clapback at her ex-fiancé, the new owner of Ellie
- 0:20Speaker 1: Watson's mansion is unveiled, and our influencer dump. But first, Kate,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Matt Zukowski is continuing to win us over. If he's
- 0:28Speaker 1: not sharing his family's gorgeous golden retriever on Instagram... He's
- 0:32Speaker 1: sharing about his love for Christmas, which I think is
- 0:35Speaker 1: actually a big green flag. I couldn't help but smile
- 0:38Speaker 1: when I saw Matt's recent photo. So he shared some
- 0:41Speaker 1: photos from his family's annual visit to the Christmas tree farm.
- 0:45Speaker 1: They cut a tree down every year. And he is
- 0:48Speaker 1: wearing the coolest Christmas vest in the photo.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It says, fuck, I love Christmas. I need one of these.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well, what most impressed me about Matt was the
- 0:55Speaker 1: fact that he has not just one Christmas jumper. He
- 0:58Speaker 1: shared a series of photos on his Instagram stories from
- 1:00Speaker 1: different years. And he's donning different Christmas outfits. Yeah, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: shows that he truly does love Christmas. I mean, his
- 1:07Speaker 1: 30th was also Christmas in July themed, which was a
- 1:10Speaker 1: big clue. It's interesting to look back at the photos
- 1:13Speaker 1: because he looks quite miserable in the 2024 one compared
- 1:16Speaker 1: to this year's photo.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And I do have.
- 1:19Speaker 1: To give him credit. He's looking quite jacked. He's spoken
- 1:21Speaker 1: a lot on his podcast about going to the gym.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It seems like it's paying off. We're just talking about Christmas, Kate.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I need to issue a PSA. People, can you actually
- 1:30Speaker 1: fluff your Christmas tree. I keep seeing photos of people's
- 1:33Speaker 1: trees popping up on Instagram. I mean, these are people
- 1:36Speaker 1: I know as well as influencers and their trees are
- 1:39Speaker 1: not properly fluffed. They would look a million times better
- 1:42Speaker 1: if they just made the effort to do it. We've
- 1:44Speaker 1: actually had a few requests for us to rate influencers trees.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And it's funny because I already do that privately with
- 1:50Speaker 1: you guys. I did go to town a little bit
- 1:52Speaker 1: on Steph Clare Smith's tree.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Maybe we'll save.
- 1:54Speaker 1: That full analysis for another, you know, a dedicated segment,
- 1:58Speaker 1: but I just don't get it.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I'm like, Remember when Ashley Bynes had.
- 2:02Speaker 1: That terrible toilet brush tree that looked so cheap?
- 2:04Speaker 2: I mean, you people have money. Like how have you
- 2:06Speaker 2: not got a Balsam Hill tree or a real tree?
- 2:08Speaker 1: Is this a new class thing where people with money
- 2:10Speaker 1: actually have very average looking trees?
- 2:13Speaker 2: But the decorations are crap as well.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And what I don't get is why are there so
- 2:17Speaker 1: few of them on the tree? Like, I mean, my
- 2:19Speaker 1: partner pays me out. He says that I have too
- 2:21Speaker 1: many on the tree. But I think when it comes
- 2:23Speaker 1: to Christmas, there's never enough. Do you know who's doing
- 2:25Speaker 1: it right is Michael Finch. He put up a video
- 2:28Speaker 1: of him decorating his Christmas tree. It looked amazing.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And also.
- 2:31Speaker 1: unsurprisingly, Molly Mae. She has two Christmas trees in her house,
- 2:34Speaker 1: one in her living room, which is absolutely beautiful. It's
- 2:36Speaker 1: covered in burgundy bows as well as baubles. And she's
- 2:39Speaker 1: also got one in her bedroom, which is gold themed. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 1: but I mean, I give more props to Michael Finch
- 2:44Speaker 1: because he clearly decorated his himself, whereas Molly Mae's just
- 2:47Speaker 1: got someone in to do it. I mean, no shade,
- 2:49Speaker 1: at least hers looks good. I think the influencers that
- 2:52Speaker 1: have money should be doing that. If they can't decorate
- 2:54Speaker 1: a tree nicely themselves, bring someone in to help. Well,
- 2:56Speaker 1: Jade Tunchi made a really good point. She said that
- 2:58Speaker 1: Australia just doesn't celebrate Christmas as well as other parts
- 3:01Speaker 1: of the world. And I tend to agree. I keep
- 3:03Speaker 1: seeing all of these Christmas vlogs in the UK and
- 3:06Speaker 1: they have the most beautiful Christmas decorations in all of
- 3:08Speaker 1: their shopping centres. I mean, in Adelaide, We had a
- 3:11Speaker 1: couple of dead Christmas trees up in Rundle Mall and
- 3:13Speaker 1: that was apparently the decorations. Oh, we've already touched on
- 3:16Speaker 1: it in the show, but the Maya and David Jones
- 3:18Speaker 1: decorations are very disappointing. They drag out the same crappy
- 3:23Speaker 1: trees every year. We need to do better. Well, the
- 3:25Speaker 1: only positive thing is McDonald's has finally got on board.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So in the UK, they used to do all of
- 3:30Speaker 1: these special Christmas meals every They're finally doing one in Australia,
- 3:34Speaker 1: the Grinch meal. I saw that and I was taken
- 3:36Speaker 1: aback how expensive it was, but you get a Grinch
- 3:39Speaker 1: snow globe with it. I want to taste test it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Maybe we should do that for TikTok. You guys, so
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm at an event and Cindy is here, right? And
- 3:47Speaker 1: she made these like... A showdown between two content creators
- 3:55Speaker 1: and an influencer event has captivated TikTok. The confrontation, which
- 3:59Speaker 1: has been compared to a real housewife's brawl, was captured
- 4:02Speaker 1: by one of the women at the centre of it. Now,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I'm very excited to unpack this drama with you, Kate.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Can you get us up to speed with who the
- 4:08Speaker 1: main players are?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Okay, so firstly, you've got Elle Saligaris, who is.
- 4:11Speaker 1: A 29-year-old Sydneysider, better known by her handle Eastern Suburbs Mum.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So she has 56,000 followers on TikTok and 14,000 on Instagram. Ironically,
- 4:23Speaker 1: Elle does these parodies of rich eastern suburbs mums while
- 4:26Speaker 1: being one herself. So alongside her comedy content, she also
- 4:29Speaker 1: shares her very affluent lifestyle. She also has a podcast
- 4:33Speaker 1: where she shares behind the scenes stories from her life
- 4:35Speaker 1: as well as interviews with other public figures. Then you've
- 4:38Speaker 1: got Cindy Killen, who is better known by.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Her handle RegardingCindy.
- 4:42Speaker 1: She is a 29-year-old Canadian living in Sydney with 64,000
- 4:46Speaker 1: TikTok followers and 49,500 Instagram followers. And she posts fashion
- 4:52Speaker 1: content on TikTok and has her own brand called Resort
- 4:55Speaker 1: and Rich. In terms of how these women met, they
- 4:59Speaker 1: met at a work event several years ago through a
- 5:01Speaker 1: mutual friend and fellow influencer, Isabella Gray. They clicked immediately
- 5:07Speaker 1: and became friends. And as they are both content creators,
- 5:10Speaker 1: they also worked alongside each other making content. Elle actually
- 5:14Speaker 1: interviewed Cindy on her podcast last year and referred to
- 5:17Speaker 1: her as the biggest girls girl. Now that all changed
- 5:21Speaker 1: this time last year when the women had a huge
- 5:23Speaker 1: bust up at a girls night out. So apparently it
- 5:26Speaker 1: all started when Cindy suggested their next dinner catch up
- 5:29Speaker 1: should be at a restaurant Elle was allegedly sexually assaulted at.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So Elle had previously confided in her friends about this
- 5:36Speaker 1: incident involving the owner of a restaurant. and the friends
- 5:39Speaker 1: had all vowed that they were going to boycott it. Now,
- 5:42Speaker 1: Elle addressed the incident on her podcast, and while she
- 5:44Speaker 1: didn't name Cindy, she said she literally just starts saying,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'm still going to go there. It was so outrageous.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Now, this appeared to be the.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Final straw to break the friendship. Yeah, and following the incident,
- 5:56Speaker 1: Elle unfollowed Cindy from social media in addition to addressing
- 6:00Speaker 1: the story on her podcast. She also shared a story
- 6:03Speaker 1: time about it.
- 6:04Speaker 2: On TikTok, again, not referencing Cindy by name.
- 6:07Speaker 1: However, when people noticed the pair weren't following each other
- 6:10Speaker 1: anymore on social media, they put two and two together. Now,
- 6:14Speaker 1: this feud ended up being the talk of the town,
- 6:17Speaker 1: and it was very unique in the fact that it
- 6:19Speaker 1: captured the attention not only of those who are always online,
- 6:22Speaker 1: but also the Sydney socialite scene.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Now, despite this feud.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Being the talk of the town... Somehow, both influencers ended
- 6:29Speaker 1: up getting invited to a beverage company's influencer event this week.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So a showdown was really inevitable and it did not disappoint. Now,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I personally think that Elle has earned herself next year's
- 6:38Speaker 1: TikTok creator of the year award by filming her point
- 6:42Speaker 1: of view of the argument. Now, to give it justice,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I think we need to throw to a clip. You guys,
- 6:47Speaker 1: so I'm at an event and Cindy is here, right?
- 6:50Speaker 1: And she made these like.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Babe, send a fucking cease and desist. A cease and
- 6:59Speaker 1: desist for what? Why don't you tell.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Everyone what FPM means? Do you want to tell everyone
- 7:05Speaker 2: what FPM means?
- 7:06Speaker 1: Tell everyone what FPM means.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Babe, maybe tell everyone what FBM is. And go back
- 7:12Speaker 3: to working the streets, babe.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Go back to.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Working the streets because you clearly fucking need to. It
- 7:19Speaker 1: is not funny to make fun of someone.
- 7:21Speaker 2: For getting sexually assaulted.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And then pull this shit at an influencer event. Are
- 7:27Speaker 1: you kidding and have your boyfriend, your 5'7 boyfriend, yell
- 7:31Speaker 1: at me? Like, for what?
- 7:34Speaker 3: For what?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Are you kidding? I do want to point out that
- 7:39Speaker 1: Elle's allegations against Cindy are unsubstantiated. Cindy has denied that
- 7:44Speaker 1: she has worked as a sex worker. I think it's
- 7:46Speaker 1: very important that we make that clear. In terms of
- 7:49Speaker 1: the acronym FPM, for anyone that was desperate like me
- 7:53Speaker 1: to know what it means, Elle has confirmed it was
- 7:56Speaker 1: a nickname Cindy gave to a mutual friend. So it
- 7:59Speaker 1: means fat pig melt. Isn't that disgusting? Wow. I've seen
- 8:03Speaker 1: a lot of people online saying that these women should
- 8:06Speaker 1: go on The Real Housewives of Sydney. And with these
- 8:08Speaker 1: vile comments, they could actually fit in quite well. It
- 8:12Speaker 1: was so reminiscent of a scene from that show. I mean,
- 8:16Speaker 1: it was even juicier because obviously it's not being overproduced.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And it's clear that there is real tension between these women.
- 8:23Speaker 1: The funniest thing is Elle wasn't the only influencer to
- 8:25Speaker 1: share vision from the fight. So Victoria Camp shared hilarious
- 8:30Speaker 1: footage of her trying to pose for content while the
- 8:32Speaker 1: dispute broke out behind her. And she captioned the video,
- 8:35Speaker 1: point of view, you're taking videos at an influencer event
- 8:38Speaker 1: and you get a front row seat on the TikTok drama.
- 8:41Speaker 1: To give this clip justice, let's take a listen.
- 8:43Speaker 2: She wants to do something she can't.
- 8:49Speaker 3: This video has gone absolutely viral.
- 8:51Speaker 1: At the time of recording. It's had 1.5 million views.
- 8:56Speaker 1: It just reminded me of when you get a friend
- 9:12Speaker 1: to film you or pretend to take a photo because
- 9:14Speaker 1: you want to capture someone in the background or something happening.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But I think it was actually genuine and I give
- 9:19Speaker 1: it to Victoria. She still worked the camera, like the
- 9:22Speaker 1: angles that she was giving and the poses that she
- 9:24Speaker 1: was doing. First class. I mean, if it was me,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I would have been like, stop, I need to watch
- 9:29Speaker 1: what's going on because this would be the best people watching.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I would love to know what was going on at
- 9:33Speaker 1: the event in terms of Were the marketing managers scrambling? Like,
- 9:38Speaker 1: you know, was anyone getting involved and breaking them apart?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Because it got really nasty. I just want to know,
- 9:43Speaker 1: did this beverage company purposely invite Cindy and Elle knowing
- 9:48Speaker 1: about the feud and thinking, okay, this could get out
- 9:50Speaker 1: of hand. It will get us a lot of attention
- 9:53Speaker 1: because these days, in terms of the influencer world, we're
- 9:57Speaker 1: at a point where all publicity is good publicity. I mean,
- 10:00Speaker 1: we are in the year of influencer best friends busting
- 10:05Speaker 1: up and sharing all the dirty details online. We've spoken
- 10:07Speaker 1: a lot about how that's how.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Influencers remain relevant and.
- 10:11Speaker 1: In the zeitgeist. So maybe this beverage company was like,
- 10:15Speaker 1: invite them. I don't think they thought that they would
- 10:17Speaker 1: go this nuts though, because Elle shared in the comment
- 10:20Speaker 1: section of a TikTok about the incident that the brand
- 10:23Speaker 1: was in damage control now and asking influencers to remove
- 10:26Speaker 1: content from the fight. I don't think they had any
- 10:29Speaker 1: idea of the feud between these girls. I think there
- 10:32Speaker 1: must just be a huge list of Sydney influencers and
- 10:34Speaker 1: they went, yeah, just invite them. So it's just terrible
- 10:37Speaker 1: research on their behalf. Yeah, because no one would want
- 10:39Speaker 1: this happening at their event.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Like, yes, maybe a back.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And forth, but this was a full-on disgusting fight. It
- 10:45Speaker 1: really did take the tone of the event down, particularly
- 10:48Speaker 1: because it looked like it was kind of trying to
- 10:50Speaker 1: be quite a fancy upmarket event. Well, from having worked
- 10:53Speaker 1: at some of those events in the past, they can
- 10:55Speaker 1: be super awkward already. I mean, adding that kind of fight,
- 10:58Speaker 1: would that have made it better because people actually had
- 11:00Speaker 1: something to talk about? It would galvanize them together. Like, oh,
- 11:03Speaker 1: there's something we can actually talk about. Now, what I
- 11:06Speaker 1: love is the drama didn't stop there. So after holding
- 11:09Speaker 1: onto receipts for almost a year, Elle unleashed following the event.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So it turns out she had the perfect ammunition against
- 11:17Speaker 1: her former friend, You see, upon realizing Elle had unfollowed
- 11:21Speaker 1: her late last year, Cindy took to her Instagram story
- 11:25Speaker 1: and posted a rant on her close friends about her
- 11:27Speaker 1: former friend. Unbeknown to Cindy, though, a mutual influencer friend
- 11:32Speaker 1: that the women have in common screen recorded it and
- 11:35Speaker 1: sent it to Elle. Elle has later confirmed that that
- 11:38Speaker 1: friend was Isabella Gray, the woman.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Who introduced them.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Now, the clip was actually obtained by the Daily Mail,
- 11:45Speaker 1: who ran a subscriber-only article about it back in January. However,
- 11:49Speaker 1: this week, Elle posted the screen recording to her TikTok,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and it was explosive. So, in the vision, Cindy shared
- 11:57Speaker 1: her side of the story, claiming Elle had blown the
- 12:00Speaker 1: matter out of proportion. And she agreed that the initial
- 12:03Speaker 1: argument at the girls' night was sparked after she said
- 12:06Speaker 1: that she would still attend the restaurant in question, fully
- 12:08Speaker 1: knowing her friend had been sexually assaulted there. She called Elle...
- 12:12Speaker 1: a nut and said that she had lost the plot.
- 12:15Speaker 1: She also went on to allege that Elle was starting
- 12:17Speaker 1: online drama because she is so keen for content for
- 12:19Speaker 1: her podcast.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Let's take a listen.
- 12:22Speaker 4: She's trying to create a bit of drama online and
- 12:25Speaker 4: obviously something for her podcast because she has nothing relevant
- 12:28Speaker 4: in her life, anything going on. She's miserable in her marriage.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Her kids are driving her nuts. She doesn't have a nanny.
- 12:33Speaker 4: So she's taking it out on me and so that
- 12:35Speaker 4: she has some sort of internet drama with people and
- 12:38Speaker 4: basically commenting back on Reddit posts. Like you're just like
- 12:41Speaker 4: one of them. You're just like FPM. Like you're just
- 12:44Speaker 4: a typical troll.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Are the Real Housewives of Sydney producers listening to this?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Like this is already.
- 12:50Speaker 1: A storyline, guys.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I really hope so.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I mean, come on, give us something good because the
- 12:54Speaker 1: last series was a little bit disappointing. It really needed
- 12:57Speaker 1: Athena X. That's what was missing in this series. They
- 13:00Speaker 1: changed the cast. Now, in this rant, Cindy went on
- 13:03Speaker 1: to say that the restaurant brow wasn't that dramatic and
- 13:06Speaker 1: then said this. They're not going.
- 13:07Speaker 4: To tell a grown ass woman where she can and
- 13:09Speaker 4: cannot go. Like, I would never ask that of my friends.
- 13:12Speaker 4: It's like me telling her you can't go to Tanuki
- 13:13Speaker 4: every Friday because Jason goes there. Like, these girls are
- 13:17Speaker 4: fucking delusional and they love to start drama and it's
- 13:20Speaker 4: a big fucking awakening. And this is why the circle
- 13:23Speaker 4: is very small these days.
- 13:26Speaker 1: It's interesting that she referenced, oh, I keep my circle small,
- 13:28Speaker 1: yet it was one of the people on her close
- 13:30Speaker 1: friends that sent.
- 13:31Speaker 2: This story onto Elle. How awkward.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I mean, this whole thing was really difficult to watch,
- 13:36Speaker 1: but the worst of it came towards the end when
- 13:39Speaker 1: Cindy downplayed Elle's sexual assault claim.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Let's take a listen.
- 13:43Speaker 4: If you have a problem with something, call me. We're
- 13:45Speaker 4: not going to agree on everything, Elle. Just because you
- 13:48Speaker 4: were sexually assaulted doesn't mean anything. You know, like I
- 13:51Speaker 4: wasn't making fun of the sexual assault, even though it
- 13:54Speaker 4: wasn't really a sexual assault. The guy tried to kiss
- 13:55Speaker 4: you and then you're lodging it six months later.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Look, aside from all of this sort of petty drama,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I do want to focus on Cindy's comments regarding Elle's
- 14:05Speaker 1: sexual assault allegations because.
- 14:07Speaker 2: It's very disturbing.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And I think a part of the reason why a
- 14:10Speaker 1: lot of women are afraid to report sexual assault also
- 14:14Speaker 1: is In New South Wales, there is no statute of
- 14:16Speaker 1: limitations on reporting sexual assault. So they can be prosecuted
- 14:19Speaker 1: years or even decades after they occurred. So there's no
- 14:22Speaker 1: issue with her reporting it six months later.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Like it's ridiculous.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I mean, people should believe women when they say something
- 14:27Speaker 1: has happened.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Oh, definitely. It's also rather.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Awkward because a big part of Cindy's brand online has
- 14:32Speaker 1: been all about supporting women. I mean, we heard Elle
- 14:34Speaker 1: say that she's a girl's girl. This is not a
- 14:37Speaker 1: girl's girl. No, I don't know. Like if you're If
- 14:41Speaker 1: you're saying you're a girl's girl and you're putting this
- 14:43Speaker 1: type of content out online, like you need some damage control.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Is it kind of like those people that say, oh,
- 14:48Speaker 1: be nice on the Instagram profiles and they're like the
- 14:50Speaker 1: biggest trolls?
- 14:51Speaker 2: Like do we have to look out for people that
- 14:53Speaker 2: say they're girls' girls?
- 14:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like mother of three. Be kind. What I
- 14:58Speaker 1: don't get is why would you ever post this online,
- 15:01Speaker 1: particularly if you have a following?
- 15:03Speaker 2: Like this is so damaging.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I mean, I get it that you posted it to
- 15:06Speaker 1: your close friends, but this sort of stuff always seems
- 15:09Speaker 1: to get leaked. get like, why would you post it
- 15:12Speaker 1: to your close friends? Like, why don't you just ring
- 15:14Speaker 1: up one of your friends and have a private conversation
- 15:17Speaker 1: where you can have a bit of.
- 15:18Speaker 2: A rant about it?
- 15:19Speaker 1: I want to know how many people are on the
- 15:20Speaker 1: close friends list as well. I mean, I mean, with
- 15:23Speaker 1: my close friends list, I generally just add everyone I
- 15:25Speaker 1: sort of know personally. It's like that UK soccer wag
- 15:28Speaker 1: that caught out her friend who was selling stories about
- 15:31Speaker 1: her to the media by changing her close friends list
- 15:33Speaker 1: to only be that particular person.
- 15:35Speaker 2: That is so clever.
- 15:37Speaker 4: It is.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Wouldn't that be hilarious to set someone up like that?
- 15:40Speaker 2: And you're like, gotcha.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Now, Cindy is yet to comment further on the matter,
- 15:44Speaker 1: but Elle has continued to stir.
- 15:45Speaker 2: The pot and people are loving it.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So she shared a text message exchange between her and
- 15:52Speaker 1: Cindy from back in September, 2024, as well as a
- 15:55Speaker 1: video of her enjoying the sunshine with a caption, me
- 15:58Speaker 1: after my therapist and I decide the other person is
- 16:00Speaker 1: the problem. She's also been teasing that she will be
- 16:03Speaker 1: posting a story time unpacking the whole thing. I can't wait.
- 16:06Speaker 2: And I'm waiting with bated breath.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Let's get into our Friday influencer dump. And to kick
- 16:12Speaker 1: things off, Sunrise reporter Katie Brown has been slammed online
- 16:16Speaker 1: after weighing into the TikTok Awards racism row. So on
- 16:19Speaker 1: Tuesday's show, we discussed how a number of black creators
- 16:23Speaker 1: had spoken out about the racism they experienced at the
- 16:26Speaker 1: TikTok Awards. which included a photographer barring black creators from
- 16:30Speaker 1: entering the red carpet. Now this week, the Sunrise roving
- 16:33Speaker 1: reporter weighed in, in an attempt to provide the perspective
- 16:36Speaker 1: of a journalist working the red carpet. In the video
- 16:39Speaker 1: shared to TikTok, Katie attempted to defend the media by
- 16:42Speaker 1: saying it wasn't up to the journalists on the red
- 16:44Speaker 1: carpet who they interviewed, but actually a network decision. She
- 16:48Speaker 1: went on to explain that when journalists are sent to
- 16:50Speaker 1: red carpet events like the TikTok Awards, They're provided with
- 16:54Speaker 1: a list of attendees to interview by the bosses. Ah,
- 16:57Speaker 1: so it's the network that's racist, not the journalists that
- 16:59Speaker 1: work at it.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Okay, thank you. So it's the media as a whole.
- 17:02Speaker 1: It's a systemic problem that we're dealing with. I mean,
- 17:04Speaker 1: why would you ever defend this? I know. I mean, unsurprisingly,
- 17:07Speaker 1: this hot take went down like a lead balloon and
- 17:10Speaker 1: the video has since been deleted. Of course, people managed
- 17:14Speaker 1: to screen record it before that happened and have been
- 17:17Speaker 1: stitching it up. Yeah, a lot of people were saying
- 17:19Speaker 1: that the way Katie spoke was really condescending.
- 17:22Speaker 2: What did you think of it?
- 17:23Speaker 1: I mean, it just baffles me that someone who works
- 17:25Speaker 1: in the media that is media savvy would think it
- 17:28Speaker 1: would be a good idea to come out and defend
- 17:31Speaker 1: the racism that we all saw for ourselves on the
- 17:34Speaker 1: TikTok red carpet. I mean, Nayel literally has recorded receipts
- 17:38Speaker 1: of the disgusting way that she was treated.
- 17:40Speaker 2: How could you defend that?
- 17:41Speaker 1: Yeah. And I think the optics of a white blonde
- 17:43Speaker 1: woman telling black creators how they should perceive their treatment
- 17:46Speaker 1: on a red carpet isn't a great look. Yeah, well,
- 17:48Speaker 1: it just makes no sense because it's like, well, clearly
- 17:50Speaker 1: it was a racist decision. But you're saying, oh, the
- 17:52Speaker 1: racist decision wasn't made by the reporters. It was made
- 17:54Speaker 1: by the network. Like, how is that any better? It's
- 17:56Speaker 1: actually worse. Sorry, it's just the networks who don't give
- 17:58Speaker 1: a fuck about black creators. US beauty influencer James Charles
- 18:02Speaker 1: has ruffled feathers after a trip to Bunnings. James is
- 18:05Speaker 1: currently in Australia promoting his makeup brand Painted and decided
- 18:09Speaker 1: to film a TikTok taste test trying out the sausage
- 18:12Speaker 1: sizzle after being encouraged by friends and fans. This video
- 18:15Speaker 1: actually popped up in my For You page and I
- 18:17Speaker 1: thoroughly enjoyed it. My favorite bit would have to be
- 18:20Speaker 1: when James Charles tried to donate extra money to the
- 18:23Speaker 1: charity and the volunteer didn't want to accept it.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Let's have a listen.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Now, James ended up ordering six sausages.
- 18:31Speaker 4: And when it came to.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Choosing his toppings.
- 18:55Speaker 1: This is where Aussie and US relations started to fracture
- 18:59Speaker 1: because he said he would like tomato sauce and mustard
- 19:03Speaker 1: because at the end of the day, it really is
- 19:04Speaker 1: just a hot dog.
- 19:05Speaker 2: It's not a sausage.
- 19:06Speaker 1: This didn't go down well online. So people are actually
- 19:08Speaker 1: calling for James to be deported over insulting the budding sausage.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I mean, obviously it's a bit of fun, but it
- 19:13Speaker 1: has outraged Aussies. And we are correct. The Bunnings sausage
- 19:16Speaker 1: is not a hot dog because one, a hot dog
- 19:18Speaker 1: is boiled while a sausage is cooked on the barbecue. Yeah.
- 19:21Speaker 1: There's a bit of flavor, a bit more flavor to
- 19:23Speaker 1: the sausage. I mean, this is coming from a vegetarian,
- 19:25Speaker 1: but I have had a sausage sizzle in the past. Yeah.
- 19:27Speaker 1: He gave them a 10 out of 10 though. So
- 19:29Speaker 1: he didn't insult Aussies too much. And it actually made
- 19:32Speaker 1: me crave a Bunnings sausage because they sell some vegetarian
- 19:35Speaker 1: ones at some of the spots. Do they? I've always
- 19:37Speaker 1: wondered because, yeah, you feel like you're really missing out
- 19:40Speaker 1: when you're a veggo and you can't get around the
- 19:42Speaker 1: Bunnings sausage sizzle. sophie jane miller has been left stunned
- 19:47Speaker 1: after spotting justin and hayley bieber in a fish market
- 19:50Speaker 1: in japan sophie and her husband sam are currently honeymooning
- 19:53Speaker 1: in japan and were vlogging in the fish market when
- 19:56Speaker 1: justin and hayley bieber casually walked past them let's have
- 19:59Speaker 1: a listen to their reaction Oh my God, that's them. Look,
- 20:04Speaker 1: can you see? Not many people have noticed, I don't think.
- 20:07Speaker 4: How many of you have noticed that?
- 20:08Speaker 2: I just looked and I was like, she looked at
- 20:10Speaker 2: me and I was like, that's Haley Bieber. And then
- 20:11Speaker 2: I looked and I was like, that's Justin Bieber.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Hats off to Sophie and Sam for initially playing it cool.
- 20:17Speaker 1: They did secretly film them later. I mean, I say secretly,
- 20:21Speaker 1: but I think every celebrity has enough awareness to know
- 20:24Speaker 1: that everyone is pulling out their phones and recording them. Well,
- 20:26Speaker 1: you could tell that Sophie didn't want to do it.
- 20:28Speaker 1: So her husband's like, look, just pretend you're vlogging and
- 20:30Speaker 1: walk past the restaurant because Hayley and Justin were lining
- 20:34Speaker 1: up at the front and this restaurant had apparently already
- 20:36Speaker 1: closed for the day, but they were reopening it just
- 20:38Speaker 1: so they could come inside as you would.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Of course they would.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I can see why you would want to film it though,
- 20:43Speaker 1: because it's almost like you wouldn't believe your own eyes,
- 20:47Speaker 1: particularly when you're overseas. Like it would be so like,
- 20:49Speaker 1: maybe if you're in America and that's where they're from,
- 20:52Speaker 1: but it would be so strange to see these celebrities
- 20:55Speaker 1: in a setting that you were completely not expecting to
- 20:57Speaker 1: see them in? See, if I was them, I would
- 20:59Speaker 1: have gone straight up to them. I would have acknowledged
- 21:01Speaker 1: their celebrity, but tried to have a normal conversation with them.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And if they didn't engage, I then probably would have
- 21:06Speaker 1: just resorted to filming them from afar. I would not
- 21:08Speaker 1: have the balls, particularly how I've seen Justin Bieber react. Oh,
- 21:11Speaker 1: that's a good point.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I would be like, no way.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Well, I actually saw a video of someone else who
- 21:16Speaker 1: was at the fish market and they completely filmed. They
- 21:19Speaker 1: had their camera out. They got such a good shot
- 21:20Speaker 1: of Justin and Hailey going through the market. So Obviously,
- 21:24Speaker 1: other people were just blatantly filming.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Of course they were. Everyone was filming.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Every person that I walked past would have had their
- 21:29Speaker 1: camera on. That's where you need those.
- 21:31Speaker 2: What are those?
- 21:31Speaker 1: Those meta glasses which have video cameras in them. And
- 21:35Speaker 1: to finish off today's influencer dump, I have to share
- 21:37Speaker 1: with you a very candid confession from Molly May, which
- 21:40Speaker 1: she made in her December 1st video. It was to
- 21:42Speaker 1: the point where I actually had to rewind to make
- 21:44Speaker 1: sure this is what she actually said. Let's have a listen.
- 21:48Speaker 3: You know, when you're at school... and you're sat on
- 21:50Speaker 3: a chair and when you used to wear tights, your
- 21:52Speaker 3: bum would get really itchy. I've got that same exact
- 21:54Speaker 3: sensation right now. My bum is so itchy. I don't
- 21:56Speaker 3: know if it's because I'm cold and I've just sat
- 21:58Speaker 3: on a heated seat or what, but whew.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Look, I'm all for influencers being raw and honest, but
- 22:05Speaker 1: I think this probably should have been cut out. Like
- 22:08Speaker 1: I can already imagine what the UK tabloids are running
- 22:11Speaker 1: with as a headline for this story. Well, something to
- 22:15Speaker 1: that effect. I loved it. I think this is why
- 22:17Speaker 1: people follow it. We've said it time and time again.
- 22:19Speaker 1: She shows this glamorous side of her life. And then
- 22:21Speaker 1: next minute she's talking about her itchy bum. I love
- 22:23Speaker 1: that vlogmas is back. I'm not delusional enough to think
- 22:26Speaker 1: that the likes of Molly Mae are going to do
- 22:28Speaker 1: it every day. I saw Sophie Jane Miller is actually
- 22:31Speaker 1: vlogging or trying to do vlogmas.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Hats off. That is a lot of work.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It is, especially because she's on holiday. Like she's on
- 22:37Speaker 1: her honeymoon and having to churn these out. I mean,
- 22:39Speaker 1: a lot of, and also because she edits her own videos.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I know when Saffron Barker did it last year, she
- 22:44Speaker 1: had a friend who was editing them. You're saying honeymoon,
- 22:46Speaker 1: but it seems to be a brand trip with Jetstar.
- 22:49Speaker 1: She actually already had a honeymoon. Well, honeymoon slash brand trip, whatever. Okay, so,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you know, she probably has to create content. She's probably
- 22:55Speaker 1: gone to them. Look, if you send me to Japan,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I'll do Vlogmas from there and we'll do a daily vlog.
- 22:59Speaker 1: The devil works hard, but Lange works harder.
- 23:02Speaker 3: As if 2025 couldn't get any worse. Greece is facing
- 23:07Speaker 3: a shortage of feta tiri.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Oh.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Oh, fuck.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Over the weekend, Adele Petropoulos confirmed the real reason behind
- 23:18Speaker 1: her shock decision to cancel her wedding just three months
- 23:21Speaker 1: out from the big day. On the evening of what
- 23:24Speaker 1: would have been her wedding date, the popular TikTokers celebrated
- 23:27Speaker 1: with a girls' night out and an iconic cake. Now,
- 23:30Speaker 1: Adele made sure this cake was front and centre of
- 23:33Speaker 1: the content she shared from the night and with good reason.
- 23:36Speaker 1: So the cake had written across it in icing, cheaters
- 23:40Speaker 1: don't get cake. So Adele posted a video of her
- 23:44Speaker 1: taking a bite from the cake and she captioned the post,
- 23:47Speaker 1: cancelled the wedding, kept the party. Thank God for my girls.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I love this because she said so much without actually
- 23:55Speaker 1: having to say anything at all. Yeah, it's not like
- 23:57Speaker 1: she's had to go on TikTok and give all the
- 23:59Speaker 1: gory details. We know who the problem was. Well, back
- 24:02Speaker 1: in September when Adele announced the breakup, she said she
- 24:06Speaker 1: wouldn't be going into the But she did reveal that
- 24:11Speaker 1: something happened that didn't align with her principles. So a
- 24:14Speaker 1: lot of people came to the conclusion it must have
- 24:16Speaker 1: been cheating and there were quite a lot of signs
- 24:18Speaker 1: that pointed to it. So there was a general consensus
- 24:21Speaker 1: that it must have been cheating and there were quite
- 24:23Speaker 1: a lot of signs that pointed to it. One of
- 24:25Speaker 1: the major signs was the fact that Adele and her
- 24:28Speaker 1: fiance Anthony were actually overseas in Europe traveling together and
- 24:33Speaker 1: she literally fled Europe and announced the news when she
- 24:36Speaker 1: got home. There was also that boys trip for a
- 24:39Speaker 1: Bucks party to Las Vegas that Anthony went on. At
- 24:42Speaker 1: the time, Adele said that he was in the doghouse
- 24:45Speaker 1: because he messaged her the day before he was coming
- 24:48Speaker 1: home to tell her that he had bought her a gift.
- 24:51Speaker 1: And at the time, she said the bougier the gift,
- 24:54Speaker 1: the worse he had done. And she actually unboxed the
- 24:56Speaker 1: gift on her TikTok. And it was a designer handbag.
- 25:00Speaker 1: So she knew something bad had happened. I think it's
- 25:02Speaker 1: a dumpable offense to even say that you want to
- 25:04Speaker 1: have your bucks in Las Vegas. Like, does anything good
- 25:06Speaker 1: come out of that? Well, I think it was actually
- 25:08Speaker 1: a friend's bucks in Las Vegas. But I mean, I mean,
- 25:10Speaker 1: that's even worse.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Oh, I've got to go for my mate.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I mean, there was also that blue eyed Kayla Jade video.
- 25:17Speaker 1: So for those not familiar with Kayla, she is a
- 25:19Speaker 1: popular TikToker who shares her life as a sex worker.
- 25:22Speaker 1: And she shared a video two days before Adele made
- 25:25Speaker 1: her announcement saying a guy called Anthony messaged her saying
- 25:28Speaker 1: he's currently in Europe for his bucks and would show
- 25:31Speaker 1: her around if she's interested.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah, the optics aren't great for Anthony, are they?
- 25:36Speaker 1: I wonder now that she's shared this cake, if she
- 25:38Speaker 1: will go into further details on TikTok, especially because the
- 25:41Speaker 1: reaction from her followers has been so positive and everyone's
- 25:44Speaker 1: been saying, we want to know more. Yeah, I feel
- 25:46Speaker 1: like this could be the tip of the iceberg and
- 25:48Speaker 1: I can't wait to hear more.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Bob, that is so bad.
- 25:52Speaker 1: That does not look anything like me. Isabel Mathers is
- 25:57Speaker 1: the new owner of Ellie Watson's much-loved Gold Coast Hinterland Mansion.
- 26:01Speaker 1: The estate was so popular, it became the nation's most
- 26:04Speaker 1: viewed property heading into its auction, according to realestate.com.au. I
- 26:08Speaker 1: can see why. So the popular lifestyle influencer purchased the
- 26:12Speaker 1: property back in 2021 and documented the extensive renovations. And
- 26:17Speaker 1: Ellie's audience were very quick to fall in love with
- 26:19Speaker 1: the aesthetically pleasing home. And they were shocked when she
- 26:22Speaker 1: put it up for auction. You know, a home is
- 26:25Speaker 1: fancy when it has a name.
- 26:27Speaker 2: So it's called the Valet Casa.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I love it.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Does your home have a name, Amy?
- 26:31Speaker 1: It doesn't officially have a name, but we've got an
- 26:33Speaker 1: old bungalow. So we were actually tempted to have a
- 26:36Speaker 1: little sign made with a name. But we spoke about
- 26:38Speaker 1: that three years ago. Nothing's been done. I love the
- 26:40Speaker 1: idea because our grandparents' house was called Swindabee. It was
- 26:43Speaker 1: the place that they met. And I was like, oh, Reese,
- 26:45Speaker 1: we should do the same thing. But then I'm like,
- 26:47Speaker 1: titanium security arena doesn't have quite the same ring that's
- 26:50Speaker 1: where we met at work maybe in cursive it might
- 26:52Speaker 1: look nice though it might fit the vibe i don't
- 26:54Speaker 1: think so i mean maybe titanium could pay naming rights
- 26:57Speaker 1: to our house i don't know i don't think they'd
- 26:58Speaker 1: want to now just back to ellie watson's house and
- 27:01Speaker 1: despite the huge interest in the property it actually got
- 27:03Speaker 1: passed in at auction so post-auction negotiations saw isabel and
- 27:07Speaker 1: her partner harry become the new owners now it's unclear
- 27:11Speaker 1: how much they actually paid for the property But it
- 27:14Speaker 1: did get passed in with a top bid of $ 5. 9 million.
- 27:17Speaker 1: So we can all use our imaginations. Well, it's pretty
- 27:19Speaker 1: interesting because Isabel and Ellie both requested that the price
- 27:23Speaker 1: remained confidential because they didn't want to be flashy. I
- 27:26Speaker 1: remember when we bought our house, I didn't even realize
- 27:28Speaker 1: that was an option. And I'd send everyone the link
- 27:31Speaker 1: and then it just popped up how much we paid.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It's sort of this awkward thing. Well, I mean, you
- 27:35Speaker 1: weren't paying $ 6 million for your house. Sadly not, but
- 27:38Speaker 1: it was purchased at a time when it was like
- 27:40Speaker 1: the peak of house prices and it felt like a
- 27:42Speaker 1: disgusting amount to pay for what?
- 27:44Speaker 2: Well, this is probably going to make you feel sick, Amy.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Guess what the Watsons paid for the house back in 2020?
- 27:49Speaker 1: Mind you, they did extensive renovations on it. Look, I'd
- 27:52Speaker 1: hate to think, I'm guessing like what, like a million
- 27:55Speaker 1: dollars or something? They paid $ 1. 48 million. I wonder if
- 27:59Speaker 1: Sky Wheatley and Lockie Waugh are looking on thinking, God,
- 28:02Speaker 1: if we can just stop arguing and finish this house renovations,
- 28:05Speaker 1: we can make a lot of money off it. Well,
- 28:07Speaker 1: it kind of makes sense that it's an influencer that's
- 28:09Speaker 1: purchased it. Maybe they're the only people with that much
- 28:11Speaker 1: cash and that desire to have such an aesthetically pleasing home.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I didn't realize she was so rich. I mean, yes,
- 28:18Speaker 2: she's an influencer. But again, I think the pay packets.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Of influencers have kind of gone down over the last
- 28:24Speaker 1: couple of years considering how saturated the market is. I'm
- 28:27Speaker 1: guessing she gets paid a lot as an international model.
- 28:29Speaker 1: She also is the creative partner at Rachel Dillon's activewear company, CSB.
- 28:35Speaker 1: But again, it's like, really?
- 28:36Speaker 2: Are you making that much money?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah, because normally if you're an influencer or model and
- 28:40Speaker 1: you have that much money, you have a business connected.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Like for example, Steph Clare Smith and Laura Henshaw with Kik,
- 28:45Speaker 1: that's where they make the majority of their money.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:48Speaker 1: So I was like, oh, you know, Isabel Mathis doesn't
- 28:50Speaker 1: have her own business. So I didn't think she would
- 28:52Speaker 1: have that much of an income, but she clearly does.
- 28:55Speaker 1: In terms of a property portfolio, she also owns a
- 28:58Speaker 1: beachfront apartment that she purchased for $ 2. 3 million, which she
- 29:01Speaker 1: has retained. It's going to be really weird for Ellie
- 29:04Speaker 1: Watson to see her old home appearing in Isabel Mathur's
- 29:07Speaker 1: content now. I wonder if there's an element of it
- 29:09Speaker 1: being quite nice.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Like you can sort of check in. You can never
- 29:13Speaker 2: have enough hats, gloves and shoes.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Let's get into our Friday debrief. And a quick one's
- 29:19Speaker 1: a good one. I am going to recommend... Christmas.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Tree hooks for your decorations.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Random. Sounds silly, but what you need to do is
- 29:26Speaker 1: cut off all of those ugly strings from your baubles
- 29:29Speaker 1: and get these Christmas tree hooks. You get them from Target,
- 29:32Speaker 1: Big W, they're like $ 2 a packet and they make
- 29:35Speaker 1: your Christmas tree look so much better. We actually went
- 29:38Speaker 1: to our parents' house yesterday to put up their Christmas tree.
- 29:42Speaker 2: And Sophie's like, are you sure that we should be
- 29:43Speaker 2: cutting these strings off?
- 29:44Speaker 1: She was so impressed that when she got home.
- 29:47Speaker 2: She's like, maybe I should redo my whole tree. And
- 29:49Speaker 2: her tree looks incredible.
- 29:50Speaker 1: She double wraps the string around the branch or something, but.
- 29:55Speaker 2: You can still see it. That's the thing.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Like the great thing with these hooks is they blend
- 29:59Speaker 1: into the greenery and you can actually maneuver the ornament,
- 30:03Speaker 1: you know, the way you want it.
- 30:04Speaker 2: It looks so good.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Our best friend was saying that she wants us to
- 30:07Speaker 1: bring back the Christmas tree competition, like who has the
- 30:10Speaker 1: best one between us. I'm keen for that. Yeah. I'm
- 30:13Speaker 1: a little bit nervous though, because if we do a
- 30:15Speaker 1: segment where we're rating influencers trees, I think people might
- 30:18Speaker 1: go ham on our own trees, but I'm pretty confident that, yeah,
- 30:21Speaker 1: I'm pretty confident. The thing is ours are quite similar
- 30:23Speaker 1: because we have the same Balsam Hill tree and the
- 30:26Speaker 1: same sort of color theme. So like ours are both
- 30:29Speaker 1: red and gold. We're going to leave it up to
- 30:30Speaker 1: the audience. We have to leave it up to the audience.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Let us know if you want to bring that back.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I know I've just kind of ruined what I am
- 30:36Speaker 1: about to suggest, but maybe we don't say whose tree
- 30:38Speaker 1: is who. I love all this Christmas tree advice. We're
- 30:40Speaker 1: giving fluff your tree, use ornament hooks. Well, I've got
- 30:43Speaker 1: a recommendation for everyone and it's a book by Jennifer Saunders.
- 30:48Speaker 1: And I think it was released back in 2015, but
- 30:50Speaker 1: I've just listened to it on Audible and it is
- 30:53Speaker 1: so funny. I just have a thing where I need
- 30:56Speaker 1: to listen to the authors narrating. Like for example, for
- 30:59Speaker 1: Prince Harry's book, I listened to him. There's something that
- 31:02Speaker 1: just makes the book so much better. And it's got
- 31:04Speaker 1: me now watching old episodes of Ab Fab and I
- 31:09Speaker 1: have forgotten how hilarious they are. Kate, you need to
- 31:11Speaker 1: watch it. You've been quoting Ab Fab like it's going
- 31:14Speaker 1: out of fashion. It happens probably once every two years. No,
- 31:17Speaker 1: I haven't seen it. I probably haven't watched it for
- 31:19Speaker 1: like seven years properly. And I'm finding myself laughing out
- 31:23Speaker 1: loud legitimately. Well, that is where we're going to leave
- 31:26Speaker 1: things today. If you do enjoy the podcast, we'd really
- 31:28Speaker 1: appreciate it if you could leave us a review. And
- 31:30Speaker 1: if you want to hear more from us, we drop
- 31:32Speaker 1: a subscriber-only episode every Thursday. All the details on how
- 31:36Speaker 1: to sign up are in our show notes. This podcast
- 31:38Speaker 1: was recorded on the traditional land of the Kaurna people
- 31:41Speaker 1: of the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to elders past
- 31:43Speaker 1: and present.
