Transcript
- 0:00Welcome back to another episode of Amigos Afraid.
- 0:04This week, we're heading into Griffith Park to see what
- 0:07happens when a little Los Angeles history gets mixed with
- 0:10curses, ghosts and things that probably shouldn't be wandering
- 0:15around after dark. And I'll be diving into the
- 0:18history of Mexican Cryptid El Demonio Negro, a massive black
- 0:23shark allegedly living in the waters of the California Gulf.
- 0:26Plus, stick around to the end to hear a listener submitted story.
- 0:30Hope you enjoy. back.
- 1:12Hey, hey, you. Are you afraid?
- 1:19Are you a? Friend, then you've come to the
- 1:23right place. I don't know if I'm scared or
- 1:26turned on. Welcome back everyone.

- 1:41Thursday. Happy Thursday.

- 1:50I see. It's just us today.
- 1:54If you fell in love with Jose, I'm so sorry he's not coming

- 2:02contract. No, it was just a welcome day.
- 2:04Like bring a friend, my friends and family and he didn't sign up
- 2:07for the indefinite a a meeting. Subscription.
- 2:12Yeah, yeah, no, it's it's cool. I mean, he can always come back.
- 2:15And as of right now, thank you, Jose for stopping by last week.
- 2:18That was super fun. I hope you all enjoyed that
- 2:20episode. If you haven't checked it out,
- 2:22please go back and check out our campfire combo slash campfire
- 2:26confessions. They were super, super good.
- 2:29He's super funny. And he inspired our listeners
- 2:32because we have a story submission that we will be
- 2:35reading at the end of the episode.
- 2:37I can't wait. Me either, I haven't read it
- 2:39other than just like the first line and I'm excited.
- 2:41No way, I I'm looking at it. No, don't look.
- 2:44I can't read from here, so you're good.
- 2:45Jerry can't read. I can't read from here.
- 2:48From here I'm I'm just this spot I can't read.
- 2:50Like from where you're at emotionally, I understand.
- 2:54And and physically I I can't make out the words.
- 2:57So. How are you, Brian?
- 2:59How's how's it going? I'm good.
- 3:01I've had a very like just chill couple days.
- 3:05OK, OK. And.
- 3:07That's good. Yeah, I can't complain.
- 3:09You know, work. How?
- 3:12Have you been? I'm I'm tired.
- 3:15I'm tired. It's been a long couple days.
- 3:18I'm super excited for another concert I'm going to on Sunday.
- 3:22Oh, really? Yeah, we're going to.
- 3:24Go watch the sword, Matt, myself and French are going to go watch
- 3:27the sword and redfing. Yeah, So pretty exciting.
- 3:31Pretty exciting stuff. OK concert.
- 3:34Boy, I know. Who am I?
- 3:35I know. That's a lot of what's it
- 3:39called, the harmful decibels for years at my age.
- 3:42Or at the age that we should go to the club with earplugs or
- 3:46concerts specifically. I'll have them in my pocket just
- 3:49in case. I took them to Coachella last
- 3:50year and I I was fine. And I felt great the next
- 3:53morning. I didn't feel like I was hollow
- 3:55inside. My tinnitus don't know her, she
- 3:58wasn't there. She wasn't invited to while no,
- 4:02it I think they're necessary. They they come in clutch and I
- 4:05agree. Like you don't feel the after
- 4:07effects the next day where you're kind of like, damn, like
- 4:10something's off. You just blew out your eardrum
- 4:12is all. I went out with Jesse and Eli on
- 4:14Friday and I think Jesse had earplugs in and I'm like, damn,
- 4:18that's smart, he said. Yeah, keep some on him.
- 4:20Mm hmm. Keep those things on me.
- 4:22Gotta. Stay obviously strapped up, but
- 4:24that's not a strap. No, gotta stay plugged up.
- 4:27Yes, Jerry, yes, with. Earplugs with earplugs.
- 4:30Yeah, everyone plugged up 2026, Jerry said.
- 4:36So. Especially at concerts, you want
- 4:37to take your earplugs. Go to your concerts plugged.
- 4:40Yep, go to the bar plugged. I mean if you need earplugs at
- 4:44the bar, dog plugged, if there's a lot of car traffic I could
- 4:47understand the sounds of freeways.
- 4:49Could be pretty harmless. Plugs on you, one for you and
- 4:52one for a friend. Damn friend, do you do anything
- 4:56exciting over the weekend? Aside from going out at a family
- 5:00party on Saturday, which is cute but genuinely highlight of my
- 5:04weekend. You were there.
- 5:06I was. We went antiquing with the
- 5:10intention of finding the most haunted items.
- 5:13You know, now that you mention it, I do remember walking down a
- 5:15hallway of antiques, but then I just blacked out.
- 5:18Oh well, luckily it's all on video for you to remember.
- 5:22Guys, check out our TikTok. We've logged the experience.
- 5:25It was super, super fun. And yes, we got some spikes.
- 5:29That's all I'll say. Aggressive spikes right at the
- 5:33end. Right at the end, it was a
- 5:34perfect sound off to to end our antiquing paranormal
- 5:38investigation. It was really good, guys.
- 5:39It was good enough to send me running out of that building
- 5:42because when it was hot Two, there is no reason dolls should
- 5:47be peaking at five points on the EMF.
- 5:52It is pretty random like and not just like that, but like that
- 5:55whole corner. And no, there was no like surge
- 5:58or electrical energy happening that was messing with.
- 6:02I waved that thing around me. Yep, it was only on that doll
- 6:06and the other doll. And the other doll protect the
- 6:08dolls, but not these. Not the.
- 6:11Not these, not the not yeah, no, yeah, for that was super fun if
- 6:16you're ever in the downtown Pomona area.
- 6:19It's called Antique Row. There's a bunch of just antique
- 6:22stores. They have some pretty cool
- 6:25stuff. Another fun thing we saw that
- 6:27weekend, we ran into a show set of Fallout.
- 6:32Yeah, which is? Pretty cool Fallout season 3 in
- 6:35downtown Pomona. They completely made over the
- 6:38Fox Theater and it made it look like the Salt Lake City Theater.
- 6:41Yeah, it was pretty cool. Never seen the show, now I want
- 6:44to. Same.
- 6:45I mean, at the end of the day that's also like free promo.
- 6:48There was a bunch of people just parking in their cars to go see
- 6:52what was going on. Yep.
- 6:53Cheese muscles me. Yeah, we parked us.
- 6:56Which by the way, I don't know if you've seen any videos since
- 6:58then. Apparently I already figured out
- 7:00his name. Like the main guy, he was in
- 7:02White Lotus. He's got like a long medium
- 7:04hair. No idea.
- 7:06He plays one of the main characters in Fallout I guess.
- 7:08Sure. I forgot his name.
- 7:10But anyways, he approached the fans after recording or
- 7:13something and he, like, you know, said what's up and he said
- 7:16a little fan did a little fan service moment.
- 7:18So it was pretty cool. I think I saw that.
- 7:20I just didn't know who that actor was, and I'll never know.
- 7:23Yeah, I forget his name. He's cool.
- 7:26I think. Only seen him in White Lotus.
- 7:29That's my only frame of reference.
- 7:31Cool. I mean, anything else you just
- 7:32chill. I do want to give a shout out to
- 7:34someone who does not need one because they have so many
- 7:37followers already. I came across a tik toker who I
- 7:42absolutely fell in love with because her whole bit is that
- 7:45she's telling ghost stories outside in her garden at night.
- 7:49The ambience, beautiful. You just hear all like the
- 7:52crickets, the cicadas. It's just the perfect mood to be
- 7:57listening to scary ghost stories.
- 7:59Her name is Riley, her account is Ghost in the Garden.
- 8:03I think she lives out in the Midwest somewhere.
- 8:05And what got me is that she was reading ghost stories about
- 8:08Appalachian areas. OK.
- 8:11And I was like, Oh my God, is she in the Appalachian Mountains
- 8:13right now? She's not.
- 8:15So I felt safe for. Her cool, cool, cool, cool.
- 8:17Because otherwise that's so scary, you can't be doing that.
- 8:20I wouldn't. And that's it.
- 8:23That's all I wanted to shout out.
- 8:25That's fun. You did show me a video.
- 8:26It sounded really cool. I do like her how she starts off
- 8:29kind of setting it up and then it's like, wow, this is this
- 8:32feels very. Like, homey, yeah, she says.
- 8:35Grab a cup of something. When it comes to down, it's very
- 8:38like chill ASMR kind of. Yeah, that's fun.
- 8:42I wish I had a garden so I could say ghost stories, but I don't.
- 8:46Nope, we just have like the freeway outside I.
- 8:49Have a patio that's I guess paved?
- 8:52Yeah. And a lot of neighbors around
- 8:54me. You could put 11 plant out there
- 8:57and that's your garden. That's my garden.
- 8:59I mean, that's true. What?
- 9:01What constitutes a garden? I think more than one plant.
- 9:06Get 2 plants there and a couple seeds.
- 9:10You don't have to plant them, just have a seed pack out there.
- 9:13Just oh, just like not even open, just on the table.
- 9:15Hey guys, look, I'm going to start a garden.
- 9:16Yeah, it's like, no planter boxes, eh?
- 9:21Nope. But I'm ready.
- 9:23Well, that's it for me. Nice.
- 9:26So let me go. What haunted you this week?
- 9:28You don't like that sticker. Sometimes you're just walking in
- 9:30the street and it just happens to stick perfectly under your
- 9:33shoe. So then you're walking and then
- 9:35you feel like the sticker, like there's like an object dragging
- 9:38and you're like, that doesn't feel right.
- 9:39And then you look down, you're like, oh, I have a sticker on my
- 9:41shoe and it's impossible to get off.
- 9:42Whoa, yeah, I've never had it impossible to take off.
- 9:45What's like really tough because like it's like really on there,
- 9:48whatever adhesive is like some top quality adhesive that glue
- 9:52is sticking pretty tough to get off your shoes.
- 9:55So that kind of haunted me this week.
- 9:56But no, today the outdoors haunted me.
- 10:01You're just talking about ghost stories in the garden.
- 10:03That's what I'm saying and I'm going to take you with me on a
- 10:06stroll through a park. Right now I thought we were
- 10:09recording. No, we're going to we're going
- 10:11to put our mics down and we're going to go take a stroll at a
- 10:14famous park. Park that's pretty close to us.
- 10:18What? Park.
- 10:20Griffith. Brian, what if I told you that
- 10:25one of the biggest parks in LA is supposedly cursed because a
- 10:29teenage girl was pissed off about her inheritance?
- 10:33Wow, imagine if you told me that.
- 10:34Imagine, just just imagine what if, What if?
- 10:38I don't mean someone just got bad vibes at a park one night.
- 10:41I'm talking about a curse that allegedly goes back to 1863
- 10:46involving A deathbed. Will a blind 17 year old girl?
- 10:51A land dispute? Several suspicious deaths?
- 10:54A woman in white? A haunted picnic table.
- 10:58Oh my God, this list doesn't stop.
- 11:00And even a ghost who apparently showed off to a party just to
- 11:04invite everyone to hell. I'm over stimulated.
- 11:07Do you want to go to the park now?
- 11:09No, I want to stay right here. Fine, I'll keep telling you
- 11:12about the story and we'll come back.
- 11:15Before Griffith Park was Griffith Park, the land was
- 11:18Rancho Los Feliz. This is where the story of Dona
- 11:22Petronilla begins. According to the historical
- 11:26accounts collected by UCLA and the Los Angeles Almanac, Don
- 11:30Antonio Feliz owned the Rancho Los Feliz in the 19th century,
- 11:35living with him where his sister Soledad and his teenage niece
- 11:39Dona Petronilla. She's a niece, but she's the
- 11:42Dona. She's already a dona.
- 11:43Dang. Old soul Petronilla is described
- 11:47in these accounts as blind. In 1863, Don Antonio Feliz
- 11:52became seriously ill with smallpox and was dying.
- 11:56While he was in his deathbed, a will was drawn up that left most
- 11:59of his property to Don Antonio Coronel, a former mayor of Los
- 12:04Angeles, OK, who would later become California State
- 12:07Treasurer. Petronilla.
- 12:09She got nothing. The story even gets messier
- 12:13because the will has long been surrounded by accusations that
- 12:16Coronel and his lawyer, Don Inocante, took advantage of
- 12:20Felice while he was dying. The Los Angeles Almanac is very
- 12:24clear that this park belongs in the category of legend and
- 12:27folklore. But the story became part of
- 12:29mythology surrounding the land, and according to the legend,
- 12:32Petronilla was furious. She supposedly cursed the land.
- 12:37Coronel, the lawyer and even the judge who upheld the will.
- 12:42Dang, she said. I'm gonna get everyone.
- 12:44The curse essentially promised that nobody would prosper from
- 12:47the property and that the people responsible would meet violent
- 12:51or untimely ends. After the will had settled,
- 12:54things allegedly started going very badly for the people
- 12:57connected to Rancho Los Feliz. Don Inocante, the lawyer
- 13:01involved in the will, was later shot and killed.
- 13:04Oh, he had to come in. Charles V Howard, another owner
- 13:08of the property, was supposedly shot and killed.
- 13:11Oh my God, he got it coming too. Leon Lucky Baldwin suffered
- 13:16major losses involving his cattle and crops and eventually
- 13:19had to sell the property to pay his mortgage.
- 13:21Doesn't seem that lucky. That seems pretty unlucky to me,
- 13:25right? I'm sorry you read that.
- 13:27Word for word, that's amazing. Then there was Thomas Bell, a
- 13:31San Francisco financer who briefly owned the land.
- 13:34He later died after falling down the stairs at his mansion in
- 13:37Sonoma County. Dang, this girl put in work on
- 13:40his curds. She said I'm giving it my all
- 13:43and they got all my time. According to the Los Angeles
- 13:47Almanac, there was even an allegation that he had been
- 13:50pushed by a mistress. And then we get to the man whose
- 13:53name would eventually become permanently attached to the
- 13:55park, Griffith J Griffith. What his first name and his last
- 14:00name are the same? Sounds like a movie villain,
- 14:02yeah. Well.
- 14:04Griffith bought the land in 1882, and according to the
- 14:07folklore, the curse wasn't done with him.
- 14:10He tried to run an ostrich farm on the property.
- 14:13It flopped. He later was nearly killed when
- 14:16a disgruntled tenant shot at him.
- 14:19And according to Creepy LA, Griffith eventually became so
- 14:22aware of the strange stories surrounding the property that he
- 14:25was set to only visit the land during the daytime.
- 14:28He was just scared. He's like, I'm not going there
- 14:30at. Night.
- 14:30Wait, wait. I'm lost.
- 14:31I'm lost. You said he got shot.
- 14:32He survived. He was, or did I imagine, shot
- 14:36at him. Oh, someone shot at him.
- 14:37They missed. Yeah, they missed terrible
- 14:40little lucky. Yeah, terrible tenants, terrible
- 14:42aim. Here's my first question.
- 14:45OK, actual first question. If you're Griffith the man and
- 14:51you hear, hey, this property might be cursed and everyone who
- 14:54owns it keeps having horrible things happen to them, do you
- 14:57stay? Or do you sell?
- 15:00You know, I think I'd sell just because I don't want to risk it.
- 15:06Once is random. 2 That was a little strange.
- 15:09Three times. No, it's no longer coincidence.
- 15:12That's intentional. Yeah, I agree with you.
- 15:15I think I'm going to be selling too.
- 15:16I'm not going to put up with that.
- 15:18Just OK, multiple people. And there's possibly a list
- 15:21around that time that says Yep, shot, shot, killed.
- 15:25On this property, on this property, I'd sell it, buy
- 15:28something smaller somewhere else.
- 15:30Maybe a smaller park, Maybe a smaller plot of land?
- 15:34Ostrich Farm. Yeah, no, that's like up in the
- 15:36mountains. Why are you having ostriches up
- 15:37in the mountains? I don't know, up in the hills.
- 15:40Apparently there, that's what the people want.
- 15:42I don't even know if it's the hills, I just remember going up
- 15:441 hill. It's one big hill.
- 15:46It's it's. Near the mountain near the the
- 15:48I. Don't know either.
- 15:51Jerry's never. I've never been.
- 15:52I've only been like 6 times. Griffith's life really did take
- 15:56a bizarre turn. But we don't have to blame a
- 15:59ghost for everything. In 19 O3, Griffith shot his
- 16:02wife. Mary Agnes Christina Mesmer
- 16:05while the two were staying at a hotel in Santa Monica.
- 16:08She survived. Griffith was convicted of
- 16:11attempted murder and sentenced to San Quentin.
- 16:14The Los Angeles Almanac notes that during the trial, his wife
- 16:17testified that Griffith secretly drank alcohol and suffered from
- 16:21paranoid delusions. Despite his public reputation as
- 16:24someone who didn't drink. Oh my God, he was telling people
- 16:27he was sober. So there's a very real
- 16:30historical explanation for what happened.
- 16:33But if you're a person living in LA in 19 O 3 and you already
- 16:37believe this property is cursed. You're.
- 16:39Probably looking at Griffith and going Yeah, Petronia got another
- 16:43one. Yeah, she did.
- 16:44It's 'cause he didn't get killed.
- 16:47He he's he dodged. He dodged a bullet, yeah.
- 16:51In 1896, Griffith had already donated most of the remaining
- 16:553012 acres of Rancho Los Feliz to the city of Los Angeles to
- 16:59become a public park. Donated.
- 17:02Allegedly. OK, so the property that
- 17:05supposedly couldn't bring its owners good fortune eventually
- 17:08became one of the most famous public parks in the city, and
- 17:11the name Stuck Griffith Park. Well, it's his first and his
- 17:14last name. They had no other.
- 17:15They had no option. They had.
- 17:16Two options, and they were both the same name.
- 17:20This is where Griffith Park stops becoming just an old land
- 17:23dispute and starts becoming a full paranormal buffet.
- 17:28Because according to the legends, the ghosts of the
- 17:30people connected to the ranch never left.
- 17:34The most frequently reported is Sonia Petronilla herself.
- 17:37But she's blind. She's described as a young woman
- 17:42wearing a white dress, very original.
- 17:45Sometimes she's riding a White Horse, which is pretty cool.
- 17:49OK, spectral sidekick. Yeah, white dress, White Horse
- 17:54white. Boots.
- 17:55White man probably right, Griffith.
- 17:59Yeah. Sometimes she's riding a White
- 18:01Horse, and one of those places associated with her is the old
- 18:05Rancho Los Feliz Adobe, considered one of the oldest
- 18:08remaining structure in Griffith Park.
- 18:10Wow. According to Creepy LA, she's
- 18:12been reported around the Adobe at night, sometimes appearing
- 18:15through its windows. That's pretty creepy location in
- 18:18my opinion for a ghost because the Adobe isn't something random
- 18:22like a haunted house that's put up for like Halloween Shaktober,
- 18:25but it's like an actual part of the history of the land.
- 18:27So I think it's even creepier that it's it has a tie to the
- 18:30supposed. It makes a lot of sense in my
- 18:32mind. If it's the oldest building
- 18:34there, she was probably, she was probably there in her life,
- 18:37right? Brian, imagine you're walking
- 18:40through the Griffith Park at night and you see a woman in a
- 18:43white dress riding a White Horse.
- 18:47Are you investigating? I'm going to yell Yes, Mother
- 18:51Woo, you're slagging. Well, I'm not going to know
- 18:55she's a Tonia. I mean, you probably know it's
- 18:57her now. Oh now I know, but if it was
- 18:59just a random girl serving cunt on a horse like what's up queen?
- 19:04Also, why am I here at 2:00? In the morning, can I get a
- 19:08ride? Can I get where are we going?
- 19:09You want to go to the club. According to the account cited
- 19:15by Creepy LA, the ghost of Felice supposedly appeared at a
- 19:18party in 1896 celebrating Griffith's transfer of land to
- 19:22the city. Imagine you're at a celebration,
- 19:26you're drinking, you're partying, having a good time.
- 19:28The land is officially being transferred, and then the dead
- 19:32former owner of the property walks into the room.
- 19:35He takes a seat that was usually reserved for Griffith and
- 19:40supposedly announced I come to invite you to dine with me in
- 19:44hell and apparently had brought an escort of sub demons.
- 19:52The lights suddenly go out, gongs and cymbals start
- 19:57sounding. You're lying.
- 19:59And everyone starts running. That sounds like a pretty good
- 20:04entertainment act in my opinion. What if it was just a hoax and
- 20:08like people? Someone hired like this whole
- 20:11concept of a spirit walking with some demons in full makeup and
- 20:16stuff. I was going to ask what kind of
- 20:17drugs they were doing in the late 90s because.
- 20:20I mean. Someone spiked the punch. 1896
- 20:24was a wild time. That's all I got to say.
- 20:27Absinthe. I thought you said it was 96.
- 20:30189600, not 1990. I was like, oh, maybe it was
- 20:33like cocaine or something, but no, 1896, oh, maybe, oh, I don't
- 20:41know who put absent in the punch?
- 20:44So now we have a picnic table. I need to find the exact
- 20:47location because then that would be a cool place to visit.
- 20:50You're driving. But according to this legend, in
- 20:521976, now we're in the 19. Oh, good. 1976, a young couple
- 20:57was sitting at a picnic table in the park when a tree fell on
- 21:00them, squishing them. That's already tragic, but the
- 21:04story gets a little darker. Workers were supposedly brought
- 21:08in to remove the fallen tree, and according to the legend, one
- 21:11worker after another became sick or injured.
- 21:14Eventually, a supervisor was reportedly found dead at the
- 21:17scene from a heart attack. The story was later dismissed as
- 21:21a hoax, but the legend stuck. People have continued claiming
- 21:24to see a ghostly couple around the location, and some
- 21:27paranormal enthusiasts have even made trips specifically hoping
- 21:30to experience the couple. Whoa, they're can I be your
- 21:35third? They're looking for a spectral
- 21:373rd. I'm looking for a couple.
- 21:39Like you guys you guys dad about you guys down for like a living
- 21:41third. You guys look like you're down
- 21:43for a good time. Now there's a creature.
- 21:47So now we're getting into like the little side stories of
- 21:49Griffith Park. I did not know there was so many
- 21:51layers in this place. So many and some of them are
- 21:54connected, but some of these are just like Griffith Park legends.
- 21:57Apparently Griffith Park wasn't satisfied with ghosts.
- 22:00It needed a monster. Greedy.
- 22:04Several ports of something strange roaming the park appear.
- 22:07As early as 2005, three men allegedly encountered a creature
- 22:11with green skin and red hair. It was a Hulk.
- 22:16He was going through a experimental experimental red
- 22:19hair face. According to this account, the
- 22:21creature had extremely long legs and feet, a long neck, black
- 22:25eyes with visible whites, and a body posture that reportedly
- 22:28looked nothing like a human. The men supposedly drew what
- 22:32they saw separately, and the drawings were said to have
- 22:34similarities. Now, obviously we're deep into
- 22:37folklore territory here. There's no confirmed evidence
- 22:39that a creature like this lives in Griffith Park.
- 22:42There's also the old Griffith Park Zoo.
- 22:44I'm sure you've seen images and videos of people exploring the.
- 22:47Abandoned zoo. Yes, Yes.
- 22:48Yes, yes, yes. So this one has a very different
- 22:50kind of darkness because there's some actual history behind why
- 22:53people find this place unsettling.
- 22:55The zoo opened up in the early 20th century and eventually
- 22:58closed in 1966, leaving behind abandoned animal enclosures and
- 23:02structures. There's an account from one of
- 23:04the sources from a pet psychic, Laurie Stinchfield.
- 23:08We were just saying how I believe in pet psychics.
- 23:12Who visited the old zoo grounds with a film crew.
- 23:15She reportedly became physically nauseous and described visions
- 23:18of suffering animals, including big cats, elephants, a monkey,
- 23:22and a Komodo dragon. Now, we're obviously not
- 23:25presenting A psychic visions as historical evidence.
- 23:29However, the reason the old zoob remains creepy is pretty easy to
- 23:33understand without the supernatural.
- 23:35You can only imagine like how an abandoned zoo with animals like
- 23:39what that distress could have looked like at that time.
- 23:41Just like empty cages as you walk around.
- 23:44Just feeling that energy. So that I'm sure is super valid
- 23:47for someone that is an empathor. So this is where I think
- 23:49Griffith Park gets really interesting because if you take
- 23:52the curse literally, I know it's like, now it's.
- 23:54Like this? This Barely now, yeah.
- 23:57Barely. Now it's interesting.
- 23:59If you take the curse literally, you have a teenage girl who
- 24:01supposedly cursed the property in 1863, followed by generations
- 24:06of deaths, financial disasters, violence, fires, ghost sightings
- 24:11and strange encounters. But if you step back, there's
- 24:14another explanation. Griffith Park is enormous.
- 24:18It's more than 4000 acres of rugged terrain inside one of the
- 24:21largest cities in the US People have lived there, died there,
- 24:25committed crimes, gotten lost, and wandered around there at
- 24:29night for more than a century. Creepy LA even points out that
- 24:34LA has had plenty of mundane explanations for the park's
- 24:37tragedies and strange encounters.
- 24:39And the Los Angeles Almanac itself makes the distinction
- 24:43that much of the curse story is folklore rather than established
- 24:46history. While there's some people
- 24:49property history deaths in Griffith's criminal history
- 24:52that's documented. The UCLA source is especially
- 24:55useful because it points out that her story preserves part of
- 24:58the Mexican history of the land that existed before Griffith
- 25:00Park became the place Angelino's not today.
- 25:04Wow, I did not know any of that existed.
- 25:07I went, I think right out of high school to the observatory
- 25:10on the mountain. So I don't really think I've
- 25:13fully experienced Griffith Park. Wow, that's only like a fraction
- 25:16I. I thought that was the whole
- 25:17thing. So when you're telling me it's
- 25:1940,000 acres, I'm like, where? It's all it's around.
- 25:23The park itself is like pretty long that then goes up and
- 25:25stuff, but then it's just like trails that just go all around
- 25:28the park. You see, I don't do trails.
- 25:31Yeah. So maybe that's why I will never
- 25:33experience Tonya P. Yeah, there's there's another
- 25:37story I forgot to mention. It was about the Hollywood sign.
- 25:40Apparently there was a recorded death there of a lady who jumped
- 25:43off and unaligned herself, jumping off the Hollywood back
- 25:46when it was Hollywood Land, which was the original Hollywood
- 25:50sign. It wasn't just Hollywood.
- 25:52Is that Hollywood land? Whoa, I would have never known
- 25:55Hollywood land was a thing. Yeah, I didn't mention the
- 25:58story. Once again, I didn't have a lot
- 25:59of sources on that, so I didn't want to include it.
- 26:02But there's also that story connected to the Hollywood,
- 26:04which is right next to Griffith Park.
- 26:05It's all connected. It's very scary.
- 26:08I want to go back. I want to go find these
- 26:10locations a specific bench. I'd be down to go find the the
- 26:13couple's bench. I love a couple.
- 26:16We go find the bench, we take our EMF and we do some Estes
- 26:22there. Oh, I'd be down.
- 26:23And then we walk over to the. Is it open at night?
- 26:27I think it closes. I mean, I'm sure you can walk
- 26:29through the park, but I'm pretty sure the park closes at a sort
- 26:31of point. And then we go to the Adobe
- 26:33house to just say what's up around the windows.
- 26:36We do a seance. I'm kidding.
- 26:38And we get a sandwich. And we get a.
- 26:39At some point we get a sandwich. We get a sandwich at the Italian
- 26:42place that we've been wanting to go.
- 26:44You read my mind. So we take our Italian sandwich,
- 26:47Yep, to the bench. Yep, offer it to Donya P.
- 26:51Yes, as an offering, we'll pour some out.
- 26:53Yep. Pour some lettuce.
- 26:56Out or oh, maybe not the lettuce.
- 26:58No, it's fine now I think. Is it?
- 27:00I don't know. They don't have stomachs.
- 27:02And then we give some for the horse.
- 27:05Yes, and we pour one out. We'll pour out some absinthe.
- 27:08Yeah, for Ellon. Ellon, but also one for Jackie.
- 27:14I'm sorry y'all, we have to. Pour one out.
- 27:18For our beautiful mother, Jackie the Eagle.
- 27:20Remind me? That was the first thing I saw
- 27:24this morning. I saw that last.
- 27:26Night, I don't know why it normally I've been getting
- 27:29updates like on Instagram LC yeah, but I didn't get any last
- 27:33night. I think they wanted to protect
- 27:35me. Yeah, dude, so much has
- 27:36happened. Like just with them.
- 27:39Like their nest got blown over and the chicks fell.
- 27:41One of them fell off and there's like.
- 27:42Circle of Life. Jerry texted that this morning
- 27:49when we mentioned it in the group chat.
- 27:50So I was just singing it to myself in the kitchen, and my
- 27:53supervisor's like, what are you doing?
- 27:54I'm like, Jackie died. Yeah.
- 27:57The Circle of Life. Mm, Hmm.
- 27:59Mm hmm, those are the only lyrics I know to that song.
- 28:04And he moved. Us all.
- 28:05And she's like, wait, they do that.
- 28:06They sing that when he gets born, like but one day he'll
- 28:09die. Also, that's not true.
- 28:16There's that edit where they're they're at the rock, Pride Rock,
- 28:18and then they fling Zimba like it's, it's obviously an edit,
- 28:22but I mean, hey, birth and death.
- 28:25They both and with TH and I think that means something.
- 28:29Yup. Yup.
- 28:30Mm hmm. So tell me, friend, what haunted
- 28:36you this week? This week I'm haunted by the
- 28:40ocean and the massive creature that's lying in wait that has
- 28:44terrorized the shores of Baja California for generations.
- 28:51I'm leaving. Have you ever heard of El the
- 28:54Mono Negro? No.
- 28:57OK, maybe in English. The Black Demon.
- 29:00No. OK, good.
- 29:02I'm glad I'm here to tell you all about it, because I had
- 29:05never heard about it until last week.
- 29:07Cool, cool, cool. Allegedly, El Demonio Negro is a
- 29:11massive pitch black shark that has survived in the Gulf of
- 29:15California for centuries. What?
- 29:18Stories of this monster have been passed down orally for
- 29:21generations, making it a stand out Cryptid in Mexican folklore.
- 29:24I don't know if you grew up watching the Discovery Channel
- 29:27like I did, but I remember Shark Week like it was freaking
- 29:30yesterday. Every year, for one week a year,
- 29:34the Discovery Channel was all sharks all the time.
- 29:36Yep, I do remember that. I had no business watching any
- 29:41of that in my formative years because it gave me a massive
- 29:44fear of sharks. Yes, the ocean scares me.
- 29:48Not nearly as much as it scares Jerry, but the main source of
- 29:52that fear is coming across a shark.
- 29:54OK, I read somewhere that because we're on the verge of
- 29:57what's shaping up to be a very strong El Nino season, that the
- 30:01water temperatures have gone up, which has led to sharks swimming
- 30:05closer to the shore. Is that because it's colder or
- 30:09is that because it's even warmer?
- 30:11I think because it's warmer, they're more willing to like get
- 30:15closer to the shore for some reason.
- 30:16Or maybe it has something to do with the seals.
- 30:19OK, maybe the seals are having a good time in the sun.
- 30:22Yeah, it's a perfect like seal temperature to eat.
- 30:24Yeah, yeah, they're nice and roasted.
- 30:26Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's why I refuse to swim
- 30:28in the ocean. That and because I'm a terrible
- 30:31swimmer. But mostly the sharks.
- 30:32Mostly. Did you hear about the most
- 30:35recent shark attack? No I have not.
- 30:38Was it like 3 years ago? No what?
- 30:41Well, the most recent shark attack on the Pacific Coast in
- 30:44the US was the case of Erica Fox, who was a 55 year old
- 30:49triathlon athlete who was mauled by a shark in December of 2025.
- 30:55OK, so not too long ago. Less than a year ago, and
- 30:58according to People magazine, her autopsy confirmed that the
- 31:01athlete suffered a singular fatal bite.
- 31:04She had tooth wounds from her knees up to her abdomen.
- 31:08Wow. And this lady was leading a swim
- 31:12class like she was a athlete. Swimming was her thing.
- 31:16And the story goes that they went in for a swim.
- 31:20Everyone came back. Mine is her.
- 31:23Wow. And I guess a witness, someone
- 31:25who was at the beach, had told authorities that they had seen
- 31:30someone in the mouth of a shark. What?
- 31:34That's so sad. So imagine how big that bite is
- 31:37from your knees up to your torso.
- 31:40That was a sizable mouth, and that was done by a regular
- 31:44shark. We know what their mouth do.
- 31:47A typical great white shark averages 15 to 16 feet in
- 31:51length. Wow.
- 31:53According to legend, El Limonio Negro is described as being a
- 31:56260 feet long. Sorry, man, I'm going to
- 31:59interrupt you real quick. So I was already kind of like,
- 32:02like this is all scary and Pan makes me panic and stuff and I'm
- 32:05just like, wow, this is just about sharks.
- 32:07We haven't even talked about the El Limonio Negro.
- 32:08That was just a general. I think it was a great white
- 32:11shark that, yeah, killed that Lady, yeah.
- 32:13I mean, if it's in Baja, I know that they're very common in
- 32:17Baja. Oh.
- 32:18Very, very common. Yeah, 15 feet. 15 to 17.
- 32:22No, I think 1515 to 1615 to 16, yes, maybe they're 17, really
- 32:26big compared to 60 feet long and able to swallow entire groups of
- 32:33sea lions in one massive bite. It is commonly compared to the
- 32:37length of a school bus that's like three times the size of a
- 32:40regular Honda Accord. So if you drive a Honda Accord,
- 32:45now you have a point of reference.
- 32:46Three of them, nose to tail. Wow, nut to butt question, do
- 32:51you know how long your Subaru is?
- 32:54Damn, that's why you asked me that.
- 32:55I thought you were kidding. Oh my God, no, it's genuine.
- 32:59I was hoping that you would Google it.
- 33:00I wanna know. Ren, I thought you were kidding.
- 33:05No, I'm not kidding. I read that.
- 33:06I'm like I. Saw that you reacted to that
- 33:08message with a laughing emoji and I'm like, yeah, it's really
- 33:12funny, but it's serious. I need to know.
- 33:16Apparently my Subaru is approximately 15.99 feet.
- 33:22OK, imagine I think also like three of those to make it like
- 33:2745, almost 50 feet because it's it's described between 50 and
- 33:3060. Damn.
- 33:32And I you would think you drive a pretty big car, right?
- 33:35I do I I I think it's pretty long.
- 33:36To be and now add 2 more and that's the length at minimum of
- 33:42what this black demon is said to be.
- 33:45That's insane. So many questions.
- 33:48So there has never been any photographic evidence of the
- 33:50black demon. All sightings have been from
- 33:52eyewitnesses out at sea. And these alleged eyewitness
- 33:55statements tend to come from fishermen native to the Gulf of
- 33:58California, which borders the Mexican states of Sonora,
- 34:00Sinaloa and top of Mexican tourist destination Cabo San
- 34:05Lucas. Never been.
- 34:07Me neither. That's a privileged vacation.
- 34:11Next time y'all go vacationing, maybe keep this in mind when
- 34:14you're out boating and sipping margaritas 'cause it could be
- 34:17your last. Wow.
- 34:18So what does a black demon sighting look like?
- 34:21First, fishermen see a large shadow along the horizon just
- 34:26under the water surface, growing rapidly.
- 34:29Second, they hear a massive roar that rumbles the entire ocean,
- 34:34causing waves to crash against the sides of the boat, sending
- 34:37it rocking back and forth. If you're lucky, you won't see
- 34:41the endless rows of teeth. Hundreds, maybe thousands of
- 34:45them. Just be in the belly.
- 34:46What it doesn't destroy with its terrifying jaw, it snaps in half
- 34:50with the strength of its tail. So it uses its tail to whip?
- 34:54Is that where orcas learned? That maneuver, maybe because
- 34:57there's theories incoming, Jerry, just you wait.
- 35:02According to sharkophile.com, the most significant sighting
- 35:05came from American sport fisherman Eric Mack.
- 35:08According to Mr. Mack, he witnessed a massive creature
- 35:11matching at the Mono Negros descriptions in like late 2008.
- 35:16He estimated the monster to be about 50 feet long with an
- 35:18enormous tail that rocked his boat violently when it swung at
- 35:21him. His claims LED a television crew
- 35:24from the series Monster Quest to investigate the area.
- 35:27Squared up with a shark, who would have.
- 35:29Thought I know and he lived to tell the tale and he was telling
- 35:32everyone. Wow, I would too.
- 35:34So this Monster Quest TV show, they came.
- 35:36They said we're going to do an investigation.
- 35:38They set up right off the coast and waited, Waited.
- 35:44Nothing. I have no idea how you draw out
- 35:47the the Mono Negro. I guess they didn't know either
- 35:50because they didn't find anything.
- 35:52Like Boo boy who cried wolf. Well, he still put out the
- 35:56episode. They're like were haunting for
- 35:58the black demon. It's like those episodes that
- 36:01are super, super dramatic and there's always something that's
- 36:04going to happen right before the commercial break and at the end
- 36:06of the episode. Literally nothing like it.
- 36:08But one day we'll find. This.
- 36:10Black Shark. For Bigfoot up in the the
- 36:13Redwood forest. So yeah, they didn't find
- 36:17anything. OK.
- 36:19Maybe they. Got lucky by not coming across
- 36:21it. Prior sightings from local
- 36:23fishermen and oil riggers describe the monster as being
- 36:26extremely violent. Throughout history, many sailors
- 36:29have tried to find the demon, hoping to slay the giant of the
- 36:32ocean. Most have returned empty handed,
- 36:35but some don't return at all. Were they lost at sea, or were
- 36:39they gobbled up by Alimonyo Negro itself?
- 36:42So what is the Black demon really?
- 36:45You're into dinosaurs, Yeah. And prehistoric animals, Yeah.
- 36:48Do you know anything about the megalodon?
- 36:52Big shock. Massive shock.
- 36:56Huge. Massive.
- 36:58Bigger than yours? Never been bigger.
- 37:02Was that a Donald Trump I tried? That was really like I heard it.
- 37:07I don't want to commit to it. Becoming good because I don't
- 37:09want that in my wheelhouse. I was going to say that to be
- 37:11like Fred. I was like.
- 37:12You were get you were there like you're you're knocking at the
- 37:14door because I wasn't doing the the hand.
- 37:16Motion. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:16But the little but I also. Don't want you to do it.
- 37:18So at the same time, I'm like, I'll stick to my impressions.
- 37:21Of Michael Jackson and what was the other one?
- 37:24At Paris Hilton. At Paris Hilton.
- 37:28Which I will not be showing off today.
- 37:32Megalodon I. Don't remember the specific
- 37:34length. I'm not going to lie and say I
- 37:37do, but I mean. So much bigger than any.
- 37:43Current. Great white shark.
- 37:44Ever recorded? Well, luckily I have a fact
- 37:46sheet. Interesting, yes.
- 37:48So the megalodon. Is the largest species of shark
- 37:50to have ever existed. It's body is made almost
- 37:54entirely of cartilage instead of bone.
- 37:56That alone makes it almost impossible to fossilize because
- 38:01we only really know about it based on teeth.
- 38:04Finding teeth at the bottom of the ocean and then two scale
- 38:08figuring out what kind of fish can hold a tooth this big.
- 38:13Yeah. Does that include jaw like jaws?
- 38:15And teeth, I think it's. It was teeth.
- 38:18No, I didn't say anything about jaw.
- 38:19And I think part of the spine and their poop.
- 38:23What? Because their poop gets
- 38:24fossilized, but not their body. But not their body cartilage.
- 38:28Yeah, their poop makes. Sense, OK.
- 38:30The teeth alone are. Over 7 inches tall, which?
- 38:34Compared to other things. Is massive and they lived in
- 38:38most parts of the ocean. The only place that they were
- 38:40have not been found is near the poles.
- 38:42OK, they don't vote. Or.
- 38:46Dance. So is the Black Demon a
- 38:50megalodon? I'm gonna say yes.
- 38:54I'm gonna, I'm gonna say maybe it's.
- 38:56The last remaining I don't know, I hope I.
- 39:00Hope that would. Be cool they found Stranger
- 39:02Things in. The ocean stuff that they
- 39:04thought were extinct. They found the show in the.
- 39:06Ocean. Oh my God.
- 39:08I don't think it's a megalodon. Researchers believe that they
- 39:12went. Extinct about 3.6 million years
- 39:14ago. That's like. 2 human years.
- 39:18Oh OK. Could an entire species?
- 39:20Have survived those millions of years.
- 39:23Maybe there is a small portion of the scientific community that
- 39:26believes that the megalodon could date back to as recently
- 39:29as 10,000 years ago. That's much closer than three.
- 39:34Point something million. That's what I'm saying.
- 39:37Could an? Identified shark.
- 39:38Breed Have some sort of mutation or disease that causes a regular
- 39:41shark to triple in size and change its coloring?
- 39:44Other scientists think so why not?
- 39:46Whatever it is, the idea of a shark bigger than a school bus
- 39:49leaves a terrifying image in your brain.
- 39:53As I mentioned earlier, a whole TV.
- 39:54Episode was made about it. There's also a movie that came
- 39:57out in 2023 based on the story and it's called The Black Demon.
- 40:01Really. I've never seen it, neither have
- 40:03I, but that sounds. Cool.
- 40:04I want to and it's all about this.
- 40:07From what I read out the description, a group of like
- 40:11adventurers go to try and find it or something and then they're
- 40:14just very Jaws. They're just followed by this
- 40:16giant shark. Shark What's?
- 40:20Real interesting. Is that there is very limited
- 40:23documentation about this alleged demon prior to these projects.
- 40:27And I'm not the only one who noticed that on the subreddit.
- 40:31R slash sharks user Iron Town Pictures asked if anyone had any
- 40:35information about sightings prior to the movie and to the
- 40:382009 Monster Quest TV episode. Not a lot turned up, and I'd
- 40:42like to think that there's a lot of shark professionals on R
- 40:45slash sharks. Yeah, especially on Reddit.
- 40:47Like, you know, there's a lot of shark experts.
- 40:49Yeah. And there's silence.
- 40:51Or raises some red flags, I agree.
- 40:54There is no reporting of any. Attacks by a giant black shark
- 40:57in any modern day publication. There is also no physical
- 41:00evidence either. Skeptics believe that it's most
- 41:03likely a case of mistaken identity.
- 41:05What do you think they're mistaking for a shark, I mean.
- 41:11Like I mentioned, I think the the next.
- 41:12Biggest thing would possibly be an Orca, which is bigger in
- 41:15size. I'm going to stick to that.
- 41:16So let's go with Orca locking in my answer.
- 41:19He's locked in. Whales.
- 41:22Are known to swim. Through the same areas of the
- 41:24California Gulf, humans are also no strangers to exaggeration
- 41:29with ever retelling. Maybe the dramatics kicked in.
- 41:32I'm guilty of doing this. Sometimes you just stretch the
- 41:36details a little bit to kind of validate the fear.
- 41:39I agree. Let's say hypothetically.
- 41:42I. Came into some money.
- 41:45I'm in Cabo for now. OK.
- 41:46Yeah, yeah, for now. Hypothetically.
- 41:49I'm a few marks deep and I am on my solo boat journey.
- 41:54This is a pretend story, please do not drink and drive but I'm.
- 41:574 Margaritas. Deep and I'm just coasting
- 42:01through the Gulf of California. If something hits my boat and I
- 42:07see a large dark shadow, just massive with a long tail, just
- 42:14slim pass in the distance like really quick.
- 42:16I just kind of glanced at it because my my perception is off
- 42:19and so is my my reaction time. My first thought is Oh my.
- 42:24God, it's a shark. Yep, it's a shark.
- 42:26Yep. Then I'd quickly sober up, turn
- 42:29that bitch around and swim back to shark.
- 42:31And then I find my bestie Jerry, and I tell him I almost died.
- 42:36There was a shark out there and it tried to eat me.
- 42:40With Brian, you never moved out of the the parking spot.
- 42:43No, it was a shark. And because I have 0
- 42:46understanding of the size of anything past like 6 feet, yeah,
- 42:51I'm gonna say it was 50 feet long when it was probably like
- 42:5511:50 for sure, for sure. And meanwhile, once again, the
- 42:58boat is has been parked in the dock the whole time.
- 43:01But in my mind, the black. Demon came for me and I live to
- 43:03tell the tale. Yep, Yep, I would like some
- 43:06water. I I would.
- 43:08Believe you, I would validate your fears and console you and
- 43:12be like no right, you're good you're back on yeah, you're so
- 43:14and because. You're such a good friend to me.
- 43:15You'd be like, Oh my God, you're right.
- 43:17Like I'm so sorry that happened. Here's another Margarita.
- 43:20And then when I tell the. Story it becomes 55 feet yeah
- 43:24keeps going Jerry then also wants to seem cool Oh my God my
- 43:27friend survived the black demon shark attack yeah yeah I was
- 43:29there like I. He fell into my arms.
- 43:31He was. Unconsolable.
- 43:32I was like, Brian, like. You're here, you made it.
- 43:35I pulled you from the boat onto land again.
- 43:39And then it so it. Goes and so it goes.
- 43:41Yeah, yeah. And now we're here.
- 43:45Talking about it. So how long was the shark again?
- 43:47Was this seventy? It was like 80.
- 43:50Feet. It was the size of the ocean.
- 43:52It was like 7 Honda. Accords so in.
- 43:55Short. I don't think there's enough
- 43:56evidence for me to believe El the Mono Negro is lurking
- 43:59underwater somewhere, waiting to catch me slipping, hoping I dip
- 44:04my toes into the Pacific Ocean ready.
- 44:06And even if. It was.
- 44:08It would never get me because I will never go swimming in the
- 44:12ocean. Amen.
- 44:14So what do you think? New fear?
- 44:16Unlocked another reason to stay on solid ground.
- 44:19Another reason, yeah, I. Mean none of these stories
- 44:22involving the ocean are going to be like, you know what?
- 44:24I'm getting over my fear of the ocean.
- 44:26I'm going to go swim now. No doom.
- 44:29Doom. Doom, Doom.
- 44:29Doom, Doom Doom. I'm here in.
- 44:32Land, do what you want. Shark can't get me until there's
- 44:35a flood, I do want to note. That there was an article in
- 44:40Spanish that did like auto translate as soon as it got on
- 44:43there and that's the one that mentioned that it roared OK and
- 44:47I can. Read Spanish.
- 44:49OK, not well. There's a.
- 44:50Lot of words I don't know, so I don't know if that was just a
- 44:54lost in translation because a shark roaring, I mean that's new
- 44:58to me. Well, I would think about it
- 44:59like. This you know how like the
- 45:00certain Gators that growl in the water that is vibrations that
- 45:05just. Sound, but they're super loud.
- 45:07And super like deep. Guttural.
- 45:11Yeah, there you go. Guttural, they just started
- 45:13screamo band the the Mono Negro. Yeah, that's a great name.
- 45:17I was going to say that would be a great Luchado name too.
- 45:20Yeah, I would be. And your whole.
- 45:21Aesthetic is just shark. It's just a black shark.
- 45:23Like, yeah, that's cool. Black leather.
- 45:26I already have a mask. Secret identity.
- 45:30OK, so I'm going to say that we know nothing of the ocean and
- 45:35therefore I do believe that there is a how long did we say
- 45:38again it was a 70 foot 90? 90 Foot shark out, 1000.
- 45:43Sure. Yeah, I would.
- 45:45Believe that because there's so much ocean for it to just yeah,
- 45:49eat. Survive.
- 45:50It's not like on land. Where we're always within like
- 45:5450 feet of another person on the ocean, those boats aren't that
- 45:57close together. Something could be swimming
- 45:59right in between them and we're missing it.
- 46:00Yep, maybe you're right. So that.
- 46:03Or there's an orca that habitually goes to the southern
- 46:09coast of Mexico. Or I guess the eastern coast of
- 46:11Mexico fucks with the tourists and it just fucks the tourists
- 46:14and it has a good old swell time and it eats and then it just
- 46:17goes back. But it might be an orca, so it.
- 46:21Could also cause the tail. Thing dude, I know orcas used
- 46:24tails as like, yeah. As as hunting.
- 46:27Method. So like that sounds like an
- 46:28orca. So what if it's just like a
- 46:31hyperpigmented orca? Just all black with no white
- 46:35marks? Yep, and it's just using.
- 46:36It's tail and I mean. I don't know to orcas aren't 90
- 46:38feet, but what if it's an orca the same?
- 46:41Way humans can have like. Genetic mutations that kind of
- 46:44create unique individuals that could happen with animals.
- 46:47The freaking raccoon from a couple weeks back.
- 46:49Jimothy. Same.
- 46:52Thing but imagine he. Was like 50 feet long.
- 46:54Yeah. And he could swim really well.
- 46:56Yep. Yep.
- 46:58Wow, terrifying. I'm so.
- 47:00Sorry if I gave you another. Reason to fear the ocean.
- 47:03So what? Well, no, I mean, this is just.
- 47:04Like a little a little a little grain of salt on a huge amount
- 47:07of salt. Thanks to shark week because
- 47:10dude, same. Like I remember shark week and
- 47:12like they would do the animations and Discovery Channel
- 47:14would like get the shark little thing inside logo and it was
- 47:19just a fear. And like realistically like
- 47:20shark attacks are like yes, they happen, but they're not as
- 47:23common as one would think or, or as they're portrayed.
- 47:26So like it's just an it's an irrational fear at some point.
- 47:29It's in the same vein of 1. Day I'm going to run into
- 47:32quicksand and I better know what to do.
- 47:34Or the Bermuda Triangle. Oh my God.
- 47:36Discovery Channel really did its number on me.
- 47:39Maybe a whole generation of latchkey kids.
- 47:42Maybe. Maybe.
- 47:43OK, Are you ready for our? User submitted story, Yes, I
- 47:46don't think it's. That long, but I will read it to
- 47:48you. You can read the next one, so I
- 47:50will read the next. Guys, if I go to afraid dot.
- 47:52Com please submit your story Jerry will read the next one.
- 47:55We're so excited, super exciting, but I need.
- 47:58To learn. How to read?
- 48:00From here, From here. OK.
- 48:03So this one is from our friend Frenchie.
- 48:05Frenchie. There's a portion on.
- 48:07The submission form that asks you what kind of encounter it is
- 48:11and she put not really sure. OK, OK, so here we go.
- 48:18OK, so I thought about it some. More and I do have a story to
- 48:20share. This is a story of Roof Man.
- 48:24It could be something, it could be nothing.
- 48:26I don't know. But when I was 11, my family
- 48:30moved into a house in Mission Hills where we stayed for almost
- 48:3220 years. During that time, my dad and I
- 48:35had done a lot of renovations to the place and possibly disturb
- 48:39something in the process, or maybe they were trying to help
- 48:42rebuild with us, I don't know. We had the shed in the backyard,
- 48:46really small, really dilapidated and overall needed a good
- 48:49makeover. We tore it down and rebuilt it
- 48:52from the ground up. New walls, floor, a ceiling,
- 48:55everything. After that we used it for
- 48:57storage. However, me being a rebellious
- 49:00smoker, there was just enough room for me to be able to hang
- 49:04out in there and turn it into my she shed and I spent a lot of
- 49:08time in this little space. Sorry, just that's.
- 49:10A great name, the she shed hell yeah over time I.
- 49:15Noticed sounds, odd sounds, creepy sounds and unusual sounds
- 49:24and I heard them often. The roof in the shed was flat,
- 49:28no attic. Anything that was on the roof
- 49:31you could hear its steps. No problem, and fairly loud too
- 49:33since I was right below it. After spending years in that
- 49:36shed, I knew the difference between birds, cats, leaves
- 49:40falling on it, or even raccoons on the roof above me.
- 49:43One day I started hearing. Footsteps.
- 49:46Big, heavy, bipedal footsteps, I started.
- 49:51To hear them all. Over the house too, in the hall
- 49:55above my bedroom and even above the carport out front, as well
- 49:58as the guest unit. Again, no attic space for
- 50:02anything to crawl into one. Evening.
- 50:05It was very. Late close to 2:00 AM and I'm
- 50:08watching something and I hear the stomp stomp stop of
- 50:13something walking on the roof right above me being.
- 50:16Aware of this, I kept the flashlight.
- 50:17Close by and I ran outside across the pool to shine a light
- 50:20on the roof and there was absolutely nothing there and it
- 50:24sent the coldest chills down my spine.
- 50:28Over the years, it continued to. Stomp around with no reason.
- 50:31It wasn't a bird or cat or raccoon.
- 50:35It was a heavy, full grown sounding footstep on the roof.
- 50:39Eventually my stepfather started hearing them as well as my mom.
- 50:44Matt was a skeptic at first, but he slowly came around.
- 50:47He'll never admit it, but he believes in Roof Man now.
- 50:51Never learned what it was. I've looked up the house history
- 50:54and got nothing. I think something happened
- 50:57during the original construction of the house which was the early
- 50:5970s and perhaps someone fell off and died.
- 51:03And to this day he's just trying to get his project done forever
- 51:06waiting to clock out and go home.
- 51:09But that's my story of roof man. May he clock out one day.
- 51:14No, another person that's forever in time, working,
- 51:17working, work, work. Work, work, work.
- 51:20You see me? I'll be work work using the.
- 51:23What is it the? The hammer on the wheel, Yeah,
- 51:26it's giving 5th. Harmony work from home.
- 51:27That's insane. That's my song recommendation,
- 51:30so. Sorry, it has.
- 51:32It has to be an. Early recommended song Frenchie.
- 51:36Thank you for that. That is creepy as hell.
- 51:40I couldn't imagine. I mean, I'm sure you're used to
- 51:42it, Brian. Yeah, but it makes sense
- 51:44because. I have neighbors above me, Yeah.
- 51:46If I'm in a one story house where there's no attic, nothing
- 51:49but the roof, yeah. Man.
- 51:55I, I just, I can't imagine, especially like when you're at
- 51:58night when you're laying there and there's like no sound and
- 52:00then you just hear the stomp, stomp, stomp.
- 52:04That that would send chills down to.
- 52:05My spine I would move, I'd have to figure.
- 52:08Something out I'd be like, it's your house.
- 52:10Now I'm out of here. Congrats with the.
- 52:13Remodel. I'm leaving.
- 52:15Yep, at some point I would be. Like damn dude, like if you're
- 52:18going to be stomping it around all night, like pay some of the
- 52:21rent, pay some of the rent, help out and then stomp away as you
- 52:24please. But fuck that.
- 52:26Like that would get super annoying and.
- 52:31That just I'd be. Super creeped out at first.
- 52:33I'd be fine. As long as it doesn't.
- 52:34Impact my sleep, genuinely, I think that's I'm pretty relaxed
- 52:37with that. Also, your snores would probably
- 52:40drown. It out, Yeah.
- 52:41So we cancel each other out. We annoy each other.
- 52:43There you go. Perfect.
- 52:44It's a symbiotic relationship. Yeah.
- 52:46You make it work. You just.
- 52:47Make it work, you stomp by snore.
- 52:50Frenchie, that was so well. Written, that was, yeah.
- 52:52Honestly, that was really, really good.
- 52:54I felt like I was there. And I felt like the footsteps
- 52:57were above me. Matt, do you hear that?
- 53:01Stomp stomp stomp, dude. Hey, I found a common story.
- 53:06So apparently when we first moved into our previous
- 53:10apartment before we met Matt and Frenchie and I'm sorry if this
- 53:14is a story you might want to bring up in the future Frenchie
- 53:16or Matt. But apparently they heard like
- 53:18footsteps of a running like they mentioned child like that
- 53:22sounded like quick and like fast-paced down the hall.
- 53:25But they were like, oh, they probably have a kid.
- 53:27And then obviously later in the future, we met and stuff and
- 53:31they brought it up and they're like, yeah, at first we thought
- 53:33you guys had a kid because, like, we would hear like,
- 53:36running footsteps. And it was in the same hallway
- 53:38of the apartment And not, not the like, the outside hallway
- 53:41through the, the one inside. Yeah, the one inside our unit.
- 53:44So I mean, hey, I'm starting to notice a trend in stomps.
- 53:47Oh Frenchie roof man. Is coming to get you.
- 53:49I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 53:50I'm not manifesting. No, I'm not.
- 53:53Manifesting that I'm so. Sorry.
- 53:55Huh, That's very interesting. Thank you for sharing, Frenchie.
- 53:58Anyone else that has a story to share, please amigosafraid.com
- 54:01There is a link for you to submit your story.
- 54:04We'd be happy to read it on an episode and may the roof man
- 54:07clock. Out and rest.
- 54:10Hang it up, hang it up, old. Man, hang up the boots.
- 54:14What kind of shoes the roof man got on stompers.
- 54:18So I'm like, do you think they're OSHA approved?
- 54:19Like no steel toe? I think they're composite toe
- 54:23midnight ballerina shoes. He's just a little, you know,
- 54:27because of the roof. And like the metrics he's
- 54:29putting on a show, yeah. Yeah, yeah, I am going to
- 54:32recommend. Another.
- 54:34Motionless and white song. I'm sorry guys, I'm sorry.
- 54:36There's I'm still riding that high 1 trick pony.
- 54:40What? You're a 1 trick pony.
- 54:42What's that? You only have like. 11.
- 54:44Trick Pony is like something that it only has one skill.
- 54:48I'm sorry, I'm sorry. We can cut out.
- 54:50We're not going to cut that. We're going to.
- 54:51Leave it in because I learned something new, but I was just
- 54:54trying to come up with a comeback and I couldn't so watch
- 54:57your back, Brian. Fuck you.
- 55:00Bam. So I'm going to recommend
- 55:02motionless and white. Not my type.
- 55:03Dead as fuck too. Oh, the.
- 55:06Sequel. See.
- 55:08It's a sequel, it's really good fun song and.
- 55:13Especially because it's Halloween season.
- 55:15What better time we have to start planning?
- 55:17What we're going to do for Halloween, Maybe we'll do a live
- 55:21show. You guys want to watch us do a
- 55:23live stream or something? I would probably get.
- 55:25Super nervous and forget how to talk more than usual.
- 55:30A. Live show would be cool.
- 55:30We do it. At a coffee shop.
- 55:33No, I don't want to do it in public.
- 55:34Then I'll get nervous. We do it in public with mics.
- 55:37And and microphones. I don't want to be like.
- 55:40Those freaking kick streamers that just cause disturbance
- 55:43that's. Super.
- 55:44Yeah, I. Just gave myself the ick and I
- 55:46hope I gave it to you too. We're not gonna do that, I take.
- 55:48That back? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:50We'll do it at Brian's place. Everyone's invited.
- 55:53Come over. We'll put the address on
- 55:55Craigslist. I have enough seating.
- 55:57For maybe 3 of you. It's gonna be a very, very small
- 56:03list. We'll discuss.
- 56:04We'll discuss. We'll plan.
- 56:05Something we're still a little bit away, but thank you guys for
- 56:08listening you hear in the footsteps I'm.
- 56:09Choosing to ignore them. Thank you for listening.
- 56:12Happy Thursday, hope you have a great day or night and we'll
- 56:15catch you next week. On Amigos.
- 56:17Afraid.
