The Calgary Flames are heartbroken to announce the passing of Peter Maher, their legendary radio voice and beloved ambassador, at age 79. For over 30 years, from 1980 until his final broadcast in 2024, Maher’s passionate calls defined the team’s sound — especially during their iconic 1989 Stanley Cup run. A Hockey Hall of Fame media honouree, Foster Hewitt Award winner, and recipient of honors from Alberta and New Brunswick sports halls, Maher also brought Olympic hockey to life in Vancouver in 2010.
