- 0:38Speaker 4: Used to be and what it could be, what it.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Is, what it shall be?

- 1:07Speaker 4: Yeah, rock out when you out.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Everybody have a logical time.
- 1:15Speaker 3: The party was most agreeable.
- 1:17Speaker 1: That's right, morning, everybody?
- 1:22Speaker 4: Is it morning?
- 1:23Speaker 3: Is it?
- 1:24Speaker 1: I mean it is morning?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's snowing again here.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I woke up to that crap. I thought it
- 1:32Speaker 1: was over. Well, you know, this is Michigan and anybody
- 1:35Speaker 1: who lives in the Midwest, especially Michigan knows it'll it'll
- 1:39Speaker 1: be back. It could be April May. I think we've
- 1:43Speaker 1: seen it in June, you know, just go away. Daddy
- 1:49Speaker 1: wants to ride his Harley.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I'm sorry, who was that?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Daddy wants to ride his Harley.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Dadmirral Dvance has a hard Yeah, that's a dude.
- 2:05Speaker 1: That's a dude I think would be cool to ride
- 2:07Speaker 1: a bike with.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, yeah, I'm sure.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Hey they said Dadmirrel in this episode.
- 2:13Speaker 4: They did many times. Yeah, yeah, Dadmiral said quite a bit.
- 2:17Speaker 3: So Kurtzman. Kurtzman listens to the show. He listens to
- 2:21Speaker 3: check cast. Maybe so you know, fuck you, Alex.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Since you listened, we got some notes for you.
- 2:34Speaker 4: Uh oh yeah, oh, wild Bill want to if you've
- 2:38Speaker 4: got a bizzard coming.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Put it this way Saturday afternoon.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Uh.
- 2:45Speaker 3: The governor put it out that there's going to be
- 2:48Speaker 3: a state of emergency Sunday after really yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 3: The City of New York, the City of New York
- 2:59Speaker 3: is uh uh is looking for people to shovel snow
- 3:04Speaker 3: for the city. So they like set up a website
- 3:07Speaker 3: and and everything. You know, if you want to make
- 3:09Speaker 3: a few bucks and shovel some snow. The City of
- 3:12Speaker 3: New York is ready to hire you, and the internet
- 3:16Speaker 3: is on fire because you need You need more forms
- 3:21Speaker 3: of ID to shovel snow for the City of New
- 3:23Speaker 3: York than you do to vote in a city election.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Oh wow, but anyway, yeah, that's funny. Okay, ah, speaking
- 3:38Speaker 5: of fires, I had my own issues yesterday.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I hope you didn't have a fire.
- 3:43Speaker 4: No no, no, no, no, A little minor emergency. I ended
- 3:47Speaker 4: up having to replace the alternator in my car.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Oh god, yeah, yeah, yeah, to do it yourself, you.
- 3:55Speaker 4: No, no, no, yeah. Keyos are notoriously difficult, especially my
- 4:01Speaker 4: Kia to get to the alternator, like you have to
- 4:03Speaker 4: take off the serpentine build and all this stuff. It's
- 4:06Speaker 4: just a nightmare. So whatever, it's done.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So, you know, I've got my truck, my wife's car,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and then my son's car, you know. So it's it's
- 4:19Speaker 1: like a constant battle, and they're all all The newest
- 4:22Speaker 1: car is a twenty ten. Ok So I drive a
- 4:26Speaker 1: Chevy Silverado that's got two hundred and fifty thousand miles
- 4:30Speaker 1: on it. Oh wow, And I love that truck to
- 4:33Speaker 1: two thousand and four. It's I love it. I love it,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know. And you know, my wife drives a this
- 4:42Speaker 1: this kind of an older Ford suv. But you know,
- 4:45Speaker 1: it's it's constant break jobs. It's kind of and it's
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's like I'm not a mechanic by any means I
- 4:52Speaker 1: I you know, but like breaks, breaks is the kind
- 4:55Speaker 1: of thing where it's like, I know how to do
- 4:59Speaker 1: a basic break job. I hate doing it, but it's
- 5:03Speaker 1: the kind of thing where if you know how to
- 5:05Speaker 1: do it, you might as well do it because they'll
- 5:07Speaker 1: charge you four times what it costs to do it yourself. Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I put a thermostat in my wife's van about a
- 5:14Speaker 3: year ago because I looked up what the parts cost.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I looked up what the job would cost. Yeah, and
- 5:20Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, I'm just going to watch some
- 5:22Speaker 3: YouTube videos and do it myself. And I did, and
- 5:25Speaker 3: it took half the day, but you know, it was
- 5:28Speaker 3: a seventy five dollars part and half a day instead
- 5:32Speaker 3: of you know, four hundred and fifty dollars.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Or right, something like that. And the sad part is
- 5:37Speaker 1: is I'm getting pretty good at it.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And the other stuff that the other stuff they're going
- 5:42Speaker 3: to find, you know, while I was in there.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I put my blinders on. You know, I'm
- 5:47Speaker 1: not looking at the rusty shocks or the things that
- 5:50Speaker 1: are like about ready to fall off, or you know,
- 5:52Speaker 1: the lines that are like falling apart.
- 5:54Speaker 3: No, I can do that. The mechanic's not going to
- 5:56Speaker 3: do that. He's going to come back with a list.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Yeah well, oh yeah, oh no, I got a from theop.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Of course, I would make a terrible engineer.
- 6:05Speaker 3: You know, it's funny about about a month ago, my
- 6:10Speaker 3: my daughter had a doctor's appointment in another in another city.
- 6:13Speaker 3: So we were, you know, we were like eighty miles
- 6:15Speaker 3: from home, and and all four of us went and
- 6:18Speaker 3: we dropped off my son and I dropped my my
- 6:21Speaker 3: wife my daughter off at the doctor's appointment. We were
- 6:23Speaker 3: just going to kick around for for an hour. But
- 6:26Speaker 3: on the way up the like you know the squirter
- 6:29Speaker 3: on the hood that squirts the washer fluid at the yeah,
- 6:33Speaker 3: at the windshield. Okay, so one of them wasn't working,
- 6:36Speaker 3: So I told her, So, I told my wife, while
- 6:40Speaker 3: you're in there, I'll take a look at it. So
- 6:42Speaker 3: I popped the hood because usually like the little hose
- 6:44Speaker 3: will come off and you can you can reattach it
- 6:46Speaker 3: and and it's and it's fine.
- 6:48Speaker 4: So that's exactly what it was.
- 6:49Speaker 3: But as I looked at it, it was it wasn't
- 6:52Speaker 3: that it came off. Is that it broke off. The
- 6:53Speaker 3: plastic part is old and brittle, and it broke. So
- 6:57Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, let me see if I can
- 6:59Speaker 3: move the one from the pastor side to the driver's
- 7:02Speaker 3: side and that'll get us home. As soon as I
- 7:04Speaker 3: touched the other one, that one broke, right, So now
- 7:08Speaker 3: we got nothing. It's the middle of the winter. There's
- 7:10Speaker 3: salt all over everything. I told I told my son,
- 7:13Speaker 3: come on, we're gonna go to Walmart. We're gonna get
- 7:16Speaker 3: some duct tape, and I'm gonna tell you about a
- 7:18Speaker 3: man named mcgiver And I proceeded. I proceeded to explain
- 7:25Speaker 3: to him who mcguyver was. And then we relocated those
- 7:30Speaker 3: squirters to the outside of the hood and duct taped
- 7:33Speaker 3: them in place. And since the van is silver in color,
- 7:36Speaker 3: no one even really knows.
- 7:39Speaker 1: You're listening to car Talk with Us Clicking Brothers.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Car Talk with Mark Talk. Mark Talk's on the line.
- 7:47Speaker 4: That's right, I love those memes. That's great, Hey, Dan,
- 7:54Speaker 4: I did want to ask. Yeah, it's birthday.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Birthday. Dinner was good.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, my uh.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Has the same birthday as me. We all went out.
- 8:04Speaker 3: We just went to a fine, fine Italian restaurant and uh,
- 8:10Speaker 3: you know, ate a good dinner. It was not all
- 8:18Speaker 3: I'll plug it, I'll plug it was Frank Widows in Kingston, York. Okay,
- 8:25Speaker 3: chef's kiss. It was good. It was great, good food,
- 8:27Speaker 3: good conversation.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Well on that note, there's something that Scott and I
- 8:34Speaker 4: got you for your birthday. Arrive until late come on, so, uh,
- 8:42Speaker 4: I think we want to share that with you now.
- 8:45Speaker 4: So let's get this going. Here we go. This is
- 8:48Speaker 4: for Dan's birthday.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Hey, Dan checked.
- 8:54Speaker 6: So Daniel reached out to me here and to let
- 8:57Speaker 6: me know that fifteenth is your birthday, sir. Nephew's birthday
- 9:04Speaker 6: as well, which I know was yesterday, but hey, excuse me,
- 9:08Speaker 6: I feel that as we get older, to celebrate more
- 9:11Speaker 6: than one day. Mare I say, a weekend, a week,
- 9:14Speaker 6: could it even.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Be a month.
- 9:16Speaker 6: So I'm just extending your birthday quick lee. I had
- 9:21Speaker 6: to fly out to celebrate my nephew's birthday, so it's
- 9:23Speaker 6: been a bit crazy. His birthday was the fifteenth, and
- 9:27Speaker 6: we also celebrated my mother's ninety third birthday, which is actually.
- 9:31Speaker 4: On week got this Monday. Then my other.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Nephew's birthday, turning twenty two on the twenty eighth. My
- 9:37Speaker 6: father's birthday he's already passed, was on the eleventh, so
- 9:42Speaker 6: we did a whole big celebration yesterday. And I know
- 9:45Speaker 6: they were twenty two, nineteen ninety three. What are you
- 9:50Speaker 6: twenty five? That's what I'm going to say, because I
- 9:52Speaker 6: feel like I should still card it. You just look
- 9:54Speaker 6: so young. Scott and Danie'll say that you are a
- 9:58Speaker 6: great father, other husband, and all around good guy. And
- 10:03Speaker 6: you're also a host one of the hosts of Trek Cast,
- 10:08Speaker 6: a star Trek podcast. Have I done that podcast with you?
- 10:11Speaker 6: I don't know, and if not, why not? Just something
- 10:14Speaker 6: to look forward to. I also feel like I apologize
- 10:17Speaker 6: for not getting this in before your birthday, but I
- 10:21Speaker 6: feel this is my little mantra that I do nowadays.
- 10:25Speaker 6: As we get older, I feel like we should celebrate
- 10:27Speaker 6: our birthday not just on that one day, but we
- 10:29Speaker 6: should give ourselves the permission to celebrate it for maybe
- 10:33Speaker 6: a weekend a week there. I say, dare I say
- 10:36Speaker 6: a month. So this is your permission to extend your
- 10:39Speaker 6: birthday celebration for more than just that one day. So
- 10:43Speaker 6: I do hope that you had such a wonderful celebration,
- 10:46Speaker 6: and I do appreciate the fact that you guys love
- 10:48Speaker 6: the trek world as much as I do. It's been
- 10:51Speaker 6: such an amazing gift to be part of the family.
- 10:54Speaker 6: I am so grateful that Jeene Roddenberry sixty years ago
- 10:58Speaker 6: somehow looked into some crystal ball and knew that we
- 11:02Speaker 6: all would need something like this too, well, diversity to
- 11:09Speaker 6: pull us together, to bind us, to remind us that
- 11:13Speaker 6: we all, we all need each other, We all need
- 11:17Speaker 6: to lean into each other, to accept each other, that
- 11:20Speaker 6: love is love is love is love, and that through
- 11:23Speaker 6: art we can stay connected, heel, love, laugh, and find
- 11:31Speaker 6: each other as kindred spirits. So thank you, Thank you
- 11:35Speaker 6: for being a trekker and a treky. I appreciate that.
- 11:42Speaker 6: So Happy birthday, my friend. I really don't sing. I
- 11:46Speaker 6: really don't sing, but for people who reach out to
- 11:49Speaker 6: me on cameo, I do my best to sing a
- 11:53Speaker 6: little happy birthday song. Bear with me and please be kind.
- 11:58Speaker 6: Happy birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you. Happy birthday,
- 12:05Speaker 6: dear Dad. Happy birthday to.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Happy birthday, Dean. I'm wishing you so much joy and
- 12:20Speaker 6: happiness and laughter and love and good conversations with good friends,
- 12:25Speaker 6: huge adventures, beautiful dreams, a strong, healthy body, a calm,
- 12:30Speaker 6: content mind, prosperity, and above all else, hope, hope for
- 12:36Speaker 6: better tomorrow. Indeed, with people like you and Scott and
- 12:41Speaker 6: Daniel in this world, there will always be you.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Know what you paid, but you got your money's worth
- 12:46Speaker 3: well for sure.
- 12:47Speaker 6: And love you tomorrows. So thank you so much Scott
- 12:50Speaker 6: and Daniel for reaching out to me on cameo and
- 12:53Speaker 6: happy Happy birthday, Dan, Thank you so much for being
- 12:57Speaker 6: such a good trekker and as we say, the star
- 13:00Speaker 6: trek universe live long and prosper my friend, Happy birthday,
- 13:05Speaker 6: Celebrate for the rest of this week, celebrate for the month.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Big love to you. Here's a virtual hug. I hope
- 13:12Speaker 6: I meet you in person someday, maybe on your podcast.
- 13:15Speaker 6: Happy Birthday.
- 13:18Speaker 3: There you go, all right, thanks Raffi.
- 13:25Speaker 4: She's obviously never listened to the show.
- 13:27Speaker 7: No no, no.
- 13:33Speaker 8: Yeah, but yeah, we looked at all the available people
- 13:39Speaker 8: and we thought that was the one.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Thank you. Thank you guys. I appreciate it.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll post that in the Facebook group so everyone
- 13:46Speaker 4: can watch it if they want to watch it again.
- 13:47Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 4: All right, Well we've been bantering for quite while. Would
- 13:57Speaker 4: you probably get to the.
- 13:57Speaker 1: News star Trek News all right? Procrastinating a lot?
- 14:07Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, yeah exactly. So our first news story comes
- 14:11Speaker 4: to us from Yahoo News, and uh, get ready because
- 14:14Speaker 4: Grandpa is getting ready to boldly go to metal. William Shatner,
- 14:19Speaker 4: at ninety four years old, unveils a metal album. So
- 14:24Speaker 4: he's going to be doing a heavy metal music album.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Should be releasing pretty soon. From what I understand, he's
- 14:31Speaker 4: gonna be covering songs from Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Is it spoken word?
- 14:38Speaker 1: You know?
- 14:39Speaker 4: I don't know you might be singing? Yeah yeah, but
- 14:45Speaker 4: uh yeah, that new metal album should be dropping soon.
- 14:50Speaker 4: It's gotta be quick.
- 14:51Speaker 10: Man.
- 14:51Speaker 4: He's ninety four years old, so.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I mean, at this point, does he I don't know,
- 14:59Speaker 1: does he know? Does he care? Does he know what
- 15:02Speaker 1: he's doing? I mean I I met him last year.
- 15:05Speaker 1: He didn't. I mean, the dude's ninety four, yeah, what
- 15:09Speaker 1: what he's eating?
- 15:11Speaker 4: Cereals and cars? He's living his life.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Baby, what's he got left in the tank? And does it? Matt?
- 15:17Speaker 1: I mean I don't know. Okay, hey, more power to him.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I wish him joy and happiness.
- 15:24Speaker 4: And that's right.
- 15:26Speaker 3: You're gonna sing to him too, Yeah, go go ahead,
- 15:31Speaker 3: go forward.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Yeah all this. I wish love and all that.
- 15:39Speaker 4: That's right, that's right. Well, I mean, hey, he's happened.
- 15:42Speaker 4: He's happy, so that's good for him.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I I I hope he is. I hope.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Yeah. All right. Our next news story comes to us
- 15:50Speaker 4: from trekmovie dot com. And you know, I'm kind of surprised.
- 15:54Speaker 4: I didn't see this make the rounds more. Oh no,
- 15:57Speaker 4: accidentally cooked the wrong button. Yeah, let me let me
- 16:01Speaker 4: see if I can get it back real quick. But yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 4: there it is. Okay, okay, let me pull this up now. Sorry,
- 16:10Speaker 4: this is what happens when I have too many screens open. Uh,
- 16:13Speaker 4: here we go. But if you didn't know, Jeffrey Combs
- 16:17Speaker 4: has returned to star Trek as Wayyoun in a Starfleet
- 16:24Speaker 4: Command short film. It's like a four minute little video
- 16:29Speaker 4: and Jeffrey Combs is in it. I we'll post this
- 16:32Speaker 4: in the in the group so everyone can watch it.
- 16:34Speaker 4: But it's it's kind of fun to see him back.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Starfleet Command is that mobile game that people play. It's
- 16:40Speaker 4: kind of like a like a resource management kind of game.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You build chips and all that, but.
- 16:47Speaker 3: He's in it.
- 16:48Speaker 4: He's in this little like video for for the for
- 16:51Speaker 4: the game. So, okay, I don't know anything about this game,
- 16:55Speaker 4: so I have no idea if like it's in canon
- 16:57Speaker 4: with the story, I really don't know. But just seeing
- 17:01Speaker 4: him back is fun. So and then our last news
- 17:06Speaker 4: story comes to us from uh BCR and we're getting
- 17:12Speaker 4: a little bit of insight of what could have been
- 17:14Speaker 4: in Star Trek nine. Apparently we nearly got a different
- 17:19Speaker 4: George Kirk. We almost got Mark Wahlberg as Kirk's dad.
- 17:28Speaker 3: So, Spock, how you doing?
- 17:33Speaker 4: Thank god? I was hoping somebody could you a Mark impression?
- 17:38Speaker 1: That's all I could do.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Hey, we better hit vasers. Yeah, but he was almost
- 17:46Speaker 4: almost Kirk or George Kirk apparently what oh Kirk Diggler.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Yes, and my brother can be like a hard hitting
- 18:03Speaker 1: like security officer.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, he's lifting weights, that's all he does the entire.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Scottie, what are you doing down there? I need faces?
- 18:14Speaker 3: I need him now? Helludi, you mother.
- 18:17Speaker 4: For me, that's an ole bit. It was so great.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Hey donkey, you're a donkey.
- 18:31Speaker 1: What's up with that.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Spark?
- 18:42Speaker 1: You got?
- 18:42Speaker 11: Smock? I can't even look how Red Scott is dirt.
- 19:02Speaker 4: So apparently he didn't understand the script and there was
- 19:05Speaker 4: a timing issue that just didn't work out. We didn't
- 19:08Speaker 4: understand the script. Yeah, so.
- 19:20Speaker 3: That's fine. We dodged a bullet on that, I think.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so there you go. Aliens, animals, all right?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Talk about transformation though, you know Chris Hemsworth played George
- 19:39Speaker 1: Kirk and then five minutes later played Thor Yeah and wow, yeah,
- 19:47Speaker 1: like what a physical like? I mean, you know you can,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you can, you can downplay your physicality depending on that,
- 19:54Speaker 1: you know, do a few less push ups before set
- 19:57Speaker 1: or whatever, and and the uniform you wear. But man,
- 20:00Speaker 1: did he look not like a jacked ripped god of
- 20:04Speaker 1: thunder in oh nine track and then five minutes later,
- 20:09Speaker 1: you know he was Thoor And what talk about? I
- 20:13Speaker 1: think that's acting, chops, really, I mean, you don't really
- 20:15Speaker 1: think of Chris Hemsworth as having acting jobs, and you
- 20:18Speaker 1: don't really think about the physicality of a of an
- 20:21Speaker 1: actor as part of the acting but you know that
- 20:25Speaker 1: takes some work. Oh yeah, to balk up like that
- 20:28Speaker 1: and to commit to the role. And you know that's
- 20:31Speaker 1: a transformation.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I haven't seen him in a lot outside of the
- 20:36Speaker 3: Marvel movies, so you know, no knowing that, uh, knowing
- 20:43Speaker 3: that he's Australian and then watching Star Trek O nine
- 20:49Speaker 3: and hearing his like americanized accent, it's weird. Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Yeah, do you want to read this in the uh
- 20:57Speaker 4: in the Mark Wahlberg.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Okay, okay, Nero. I get the you're playing it blowing up,
- 21:05Speaker 3: sucks and all, but you being kind of a dick
- 21:07Speaker 3: about it.
- 21:16Speaker 4: No, not love it?
- 21:18Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, man, I know karate, I know karate it
- 21:23Speaker 7: being kind of a dick about it.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Jack, I want to do the scene. I want to
- 21:29Speaker 3: do it now.
- 21:31Speaker 1: And yeah, chas Tom Hardy to Tom Hardy. Even more
- 21:35Speaker 1: so that that was the biggest one right there, when
- 21:39Speaker 1: he went from shin Zen to Bane and I know
- 21:42Speaker 1: that was a longer time frame and and and the
- 21:46Speaker 1: actor went through some personal issues like after after Nemesis,
- 21:50Speaker 1: he went through some depression and some personal issues and
- 21:53Speaker 1: some Yeah, he had a rough time after that, but
- 21:57Speaker 1: the dude was rail thin and I mean, you remember
- 22:02Speaker 1: what Shinzon looked like. It was just a skinny, little
- 22:04Speaker 1: bean pole. And it wasn't that many years later that
- 22:08Speaker 1: he was bane. Yeah, I'm beating the shit out of Batman.
- 22:13Speaker 3: But even now he's a bigger guy. He doesn't look
- 22:15Speaker 3: he doesn't look like he did in uh in Star
- 22:18Speaker 3: Trek and right. I remember the first time I heard
- 22:20Speaker 3: that it was the same guy. I had to go
- 22:22Speaker 3: look it up. I'm like, wow, there's no way that's
- 22:23Speaker 3: the same guy.
- 22:25Speaker 4: And it was yeah, all right, well we should get
- 22:29Speaker 4: to the main topic.
- 22:32Speaker 1: No, so listener feedback.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Yeah, right, all right, here we go.
- 22:37Speaker 12: Fun will Now comments.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Will at seven Will fun Now comments.
- 22:46Speaker 4: That's hard to say. It's hard to say. Uh. Yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 4: So this was episode seven of Starfleet Academy. Yeah, apparently
- 22:58Speaker 4: we took a break and where the characters took a
- 23:00Speaker 4: break from school, but we didn't because we watched it.
- 23:04Speaker 4: They had their what are they call it, all World's Day,
- 23:07Speaker 4: like their equivalent of spring break.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Sure it was only four days long, though.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Yeah, that was interesting. It was like a long weekend.
- 23:16Speaker 3: So I had my notes here and then I had
- 23:18Speaker 3: to edit my notes because at first I wrote down
- 23:25Speaker 3: no digital Dean. It was a different voice, and then
- 23:29Speaker 3: later the Digital Dean returned. Yeah, yeah, so there was
- 23:33Speaker 3: there were some announcements and it was it was obviously
- 23:36Speaker 3: not uh Stephen Colbert. So I don't know what that
- 23:40Speaker 3: was all about. Yeah, which segues right into my next thing,
- 23:47Speaker 3: that says, the announcements are dumb. Mm hmm. If you're leaving,
- 23:53Speaker 3: don't forget to bring your luggage. That was one of
- 23:56Speaker 3: the announcements.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:58Speaker 3: And if and if you're putting on shoes, don't forget
- 24:00Speaker 3: to tie them.
- 24:03Speaker 4: That was another announcement. I didn't even catch that.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Yeah, oh no, no, no, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 24:10Speaker 3: That's no, they didn't say that. That was that's a
- 24:12Speaker 3: note to myself. That's the equivalent of you're putting on
- 24:14Speaker 3: your shoes, don't forget to tie them, right, I'm sorry.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I took these notes theirs. I didn't rewatch the episode
- 24:21Speaker 3: this morning. I usually rewatch it Sunday morning, and I
- 24:23Speaker 3: just I wasn't in the mood. But I don't know.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Some of these announcements, they're just they're dumb, and I
- 24:30Speaker 3: know they're meant to be funny, some of them. If
- 24:33Speaker 3: I hear once more about cadets. So and so's Telaxian
- 24:38Speaker 3: for a fly. It's like, what are we doing here?
- 24:41Speaker 3: This is is this supposed to be comedy?
- 24:46Speaker 4: It's supposed to be.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned luggage, and she was the last girl
- 24:57Speaker 1: was trying to pack her suitcase, her really really really
- 25:01Speaker 1: big suitcase for a four day trip. Why do we
- 25:04Speaker 1: need so much luggage in the thirty first century? You
- 25:06Speaker 1: do not, Nope with programmable matter and replicators and what
- 25:12Speaker 1: do we what are we afraid that we're forgetting you?
- 25:15Speaker 3: You don't need anything.
- 25:16Speaker 1: You don't need anything. I mean the clothes on your back,
- 25:19Speaker 1: and then hey, replicator swimwear and toothpaste and underwear and
- 25:26Speaker 1: you know, yeah, and.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Why are they? Why are they? They have the transporters
- 25:31Speaker 3: set up like a like a bus station. Yeah, they
- 25:34Speaker 3: have a person there with a clipboard saying, all right,
- 25:36Speaker 3: you're going to You're going to Iowa, have a good trip,
- 25:39Speaker 3: and you step through. Okay, you're going to Paris, France,
- 25:42Speaker 3: have a good trip. And they and they step through.
- 25:46Speaker 3: They're all wearing they're all wearing transporters. They're all wearing
- 25:52Speaker 3: these new combat slash tricorder slash everything button on their shirt.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Why do you need a staff member with a clipboard
- 26:04Speaker 3: directing you? It's just none of that. None of this
- 26:07Speaker 3: makes sense. I kept thinking, you've progressed the technology so
- 26:12Speaker 3: far that nothing matters.
- 26:14Speaker 1: That's it. Yeah, they've written themselves.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And then you do things like you have thunderstorms on Earth.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Why I wonder about that too. Wasn't the climate controlled?
- 26:26Speaker 1: Like, yes, well, you still need rain, I would imagine.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess seasons, you know, I mean water plants
- 26:33Speaker 4: and all that.
- 26:33Speaker 1: What you know, blood's not the only thing that makes
- 26:35Speaker 1: the green grass grow.
- 26:37Speaker 3: What, but you can have rain without a thunderstorm. M
- 26:43Speaker 3: if you have an environmental control system that controls all
- 26:46Speaker 3: aspects of the weather, you could set it to set
- 26:50Speaker 3: it to Florida where it rains for thirty minutes every
- 26:54Speaker 3: afternoon at two o'clock, that it dries up by three.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Yeah, So what was the point? I guess, like Jaden
- 27:07Speaker 4: saw the one kid get kidnapped, or that's what he
- 27:10Speaker 4: thought it was, and so he followed him.
- 27:13Speaker 3: No, no, no, that's what it was. That what that's
- 27:17Speaker 3: what it was.
- 27:17Speaker 1: That was pointless.
- 27:19Speaker 3: That was a kidnapping occurring on a military base, and
- 27:23Speaker 3: and no, one's the wiser. So these these people infiltrate
- 27:28Speaker 3: a military.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Base and using an iconian portal.
- 27:34Speaker 3: There's no there's no security in place, there's no security
- 27:38Speaker 3: protocols in place. They can just walk onto a military
- 27:41Speaker 3: base and abduct the cadet and it's fine. And then
- 27:45Speaker 3: Jaden stands there with his thumb in his ass, has
- 27:49Speaker 3: no idea.
- 27:51Speaker 4: What doesn't call for help? Doesn't call for help?
- 27:55Speaker 3: You know, there's two words.
- 27:57Speaker 4: This is star Trek.
- 27:58Speaker 3: There's two words. He had a job. He taps his
- 28:02Speaker 3: chest and he says intruder alert. That's it. That's all
- 28:09Speaker 3: he had to do. And since this is the thirty
- 28:11Speaker 3: second century and we've already established that there are holographic
- 28:16Speaker 3: security guards on this base, theoretically he should tap his
- 28:20Speaker 3: chest and say intruder alert, and bam, wherever he is
- 28:27Speaker 3: suddenly there's fifteen holographic security officers. Yeah, but again, you've
- 28:35Speaker 3: you've you've progressed the technology so far, you've written yourself
- 28:39Speaker 3: into a corner. But you have also forgotten your own
- 28:43Speaker 3: rules that you that you establish for yourself by making
- 28:46Speaker 3: this techniques so advanced.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well, a waiting game, I think makes a great
- 28:51Speaker 1: point when the technology starts to border along the lines
- 28:54Speaker 1: of magic. The rules of sci fi go out the window.
- 28:55Speaker 1: The show needs rules that makes sense, even if that's
- 28:58Speaker 1: total fiction. Something we can can cling on to to,
- 29:02Speaker 1: you know, to help us make sense of the show
- 29:04Speaker 1: that they forgot to establish.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Yep, but it ends up. I wants the other guy's name. Yeah, no,
- 29:13Speaker 4: not Kyle Well not got kidnapped.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Oh the shape shifter.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Yeah, busy, we we we only saw that once and
- 29:25Speaker 3: then he went and then he went home this episode
- 29:28Speaker 3: and everybody everybody else like that looks human.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Yeah, he's like the Zach Morris. So, Zach Morris got kidnapped, and.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Uh, Zach bs is trash.
- 29:39Speaker 4: He got kidnapped. Ends up he was gonna get gonna
- 29:41Speaker 4: get married, and that was part of the ritual, was
- 29:44Speaker 4: kidnapping him. And so Jaden ended up being his best
- 29:47Speaker 4: man at the at the wedding. Darren Okay, thanks Wildville, Darren.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Darren is trash.
- 29:53Speaker 4: There you go. Uh And so yeah, Jayden goes following
- 29:58Speaker 4: after him, and it ends up he was long ago
- 30:04Speaker 4: betrothed to some princess or between the two of them,
- 30:09Speaker 4: they were ended up leading the planet. Yeah, I guess. Yeah,
- 30:13Speaker 4: royalty Jess, because I think he's more like a c Slater. Yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 4: I mean I kind of feel like, like, you know,
- 30:23Speaker 4: who's who's screech? Oh yeah, yeah yeah, I feel like
- 30:31Speaker 4: you can make an argument that a holographic later. Yeah, yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 4: she's more screech. But yeah, So they have the wedding.
- 30:42Speaker 4: They're going through it apparently, uh, you know, Slater or
- 30:47Speaker 4: Morris doesn't Zach Morris doesn't want to get married, and
- 30:51Speaker 4: but he can't not do that because the planet relies
- 30:56Speaker 4: on him. He has to get married too. What is
- 31:00Speaker 4: it like to bring all the families together or something?
- 31:03Speaker 4: Or we're just because it's expected of him.
- 31:06Speaker 1: I guess.
- 31:07Speaker 3: I don't guess.
- 31:08Speaker 4: I guess they don't.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Really, they don't really cover it.
- 31:11Speaker 1: It was very vague. The whole point of the a
- 31:14Speaker 1: story was very very vague.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Yeah, So they make it sound like her parents are
- 31:19Speaker 3: currently ruling and they are abdicating the throne, so she
- 31:24Speaker 3: needs to get married so that she can take the throne.
- 31:28Speaker 3: But then they also refer to him as royalty, so
- 31:31Speaker 3: he's already royalty. So is he a distant cousin of hers?
- 31:36Speaker 3: Are there multiple royal bloodlines? I don't know some of
- 31:39Speaker 3: this might have been interesting to learn. Yeah, watching the show,
- 31:42Speaker 3: we learned none of it.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Yeah, And and so they end up getting married, but
- 31:49Speaker 4: at the ceremony, Jaden gives a speech about how great
- 31:53Speaker 4: Zach Morris is and how much he's learned about him
- 31:56Speaker 4: in Starfleet Academy. And after that, the new spouse says, hey,
- 32:04Speaker 4: I hear about this guy. That sounds so great. I've
- 32:07Speaker 4: never met him. You've always been so quiet into more. Uh,
- 32:11Speaker 4: you know, did get married? Yeah, they got married? Was yeah,
- 32:16Speaker 4: they got married? Yeah? Okay, And so she like says,
- 32:22Speaker 4: we'll get a divorce. It'll be fine, we'll in all
- 32:24Speaker 4: the marriage. I can just go ahead and rule without you.
- 32:27Speaker 4: You can just go back to school at school, dude.
- 32:29Speaker 1: So she doesn't get spousal Starfleet benefits.
- 32:33Speaker 4: No, And so we didn't need to go through all this.
- 32:37Speaker 4: I mean, if you can just toss it that.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Easily, you know, this good thing? There were no stakes.
- 32:43Speaker 4: Yeah, well it's just so no, go ahead, I'm sorry,
- 32:49Speaker 4: that's gonna see it. It makes no sense. And the
- 32:51Speaker 4: thing is, like I get that we needed to do
- 32:54Speaker 4: like a quieter episode after last week's really heavy episode
- 32:58Speaker 4: right where we killed the Vulcan kid, but like you
- 33:03Speaker 4: had an ability to do something with that in that
- 33:07Speaker 4: like one of the last things the Vulcan kid said
- 33:10Speaker 4: before he died was the needs of the many outweigh
- 33:13Speaker 4: the needs of the few, right, And he could have
- 33:16Speaker 4: even had brought that up at the wedding ceremony, like
- 33:19Speaker 4: I have to do this because then like it's like
- 33:22Speaker 4: that kid said, right, like you.
- 33:24Speaker 13: Know, yes, you're saying this, and I'm like, if they
- 33:28Speaker 13: had been sitting around at table, yeah, planning these things out,
- 33:32Speaker 13: that's that's something you know, we've often we've often said
- 33:37Speaker 13: Star Trek works best when it's small, self contained episodes, but.
- 33:44Speaker 4: If if you are going to have.
- 33:46Speaker 3: A continuous story, like they've done in the last ten years,
- 33:51Speaker 3: then you know, coordinate with each other on these things.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Run these run these threads through them, through the through
- 33:58Speaker 3: the stories that maybe it's not the main overarching story,
- 34:03Speaker 3: but it's just fallout, it's it's it's significant what happened
- 34:07Speaker 3: to them last week is relevant to what's happening this week, right, And.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Then you could have had even so he says that, like, hey,
- 34:17Speaker 4: I learned that lesson from this guy. I've got to
- 34:19Speaker 4: do things for the greater good. But then Jaden, because
- 34:22Speaker 4: of his experience, could be like, yeah, I know what
- 34:25Speaker 4: it's like to try to do that and live up
- 34:27Speaker 4: to things and it's not you and you're miserable. Like
- 34:30Speaker 4: I tried to do that for my family, and now
- 34:32Speaker 4: I'm here because I had to be true to myself. Right,
- 34:35Speaker 4: So it's like the it's like the devil and angel
- 34:38Speaker 4: on both of his shoulders, right, yeah, yeah, giving them both,
- 34:40Speaker 4: and so like ultimately he needs to decide what he's
- 34:42Speaker 4: going to do, right, and like, you're still building off
- 34:47Speaker 4: the lore you've already built. It's all right there. It's
- 34:50Speaker 4: pretty easy, and it would have made it more interesting.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so Jaden's a hypocrite. Yeah. There's a point where
- 35:00Speaker 3: he says to Darrem, what is that ridiculous ornament on
- 35:05Speaker 3: your head?
- 35:07Speaker 6: Ha?
- 35:07Speaker 1: Ha?
- 35:09Speaker 3: What a culturally insensitive thing to say to someone you
- 35:17Speaker 3: are visiting their planet for the first time. He's obviously
- 35:20Speaker 3: wearing the clothing of his culture, and your first thing
- 35:26Speaker 3: that you say to him is, what is that ridiculous
- 35:29Speaker 3: ornament on your head?
- 35:32Speaker 4: Meanwhile, you wear in a dress.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Dude, you're wearing a dress. You're the best man at
- 35:40Speaker 3: a wedding. This is how they wrote this episode. The
- 35:42Speaker 3: best man at a wedding is wearing a dress and
- 35:45Speaker 3: the maid of honor is wearing pants. Because they're trying
- 35:48Speaker 3: to make a statement. That's what they're doing. They're trying
- 35:51Speaker 3: to make a statement. Fine, but at the same time,
- 35:54Speaker 3: you have someone making fun of someone else's culturally relevant tire.
- 36:01Speaker 3: What is that?
- 36:02Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 36:05Speaker 1: Uh, they look like dresses, that's the That's what I
- 36:08Speaker 1: kept thinking of that scene between war F and riker
- 36:11Speaker 1: yep Rikers, Like that is an incredibly outdated and sexist attitude. Besides,
- 36:18Speaker 1: if you look good in address. Yeah, the only time
- 36:22Speaker 1: I laugh at at and get any kick out of
- 36:25Speaker 1: these episodes is when I hark it back and think
- 36:27Speaker 1: back of other like TNG Deeply Signed Voyager episodes. It's
- 36:31Speaker 1: like the only time I get joy. It's like, oh,
- 36:34Speaker 1: there's the doctor that reminds me of what I love
- 36:37Speaker 1: Star Trek m.
- 36:40Speaker 3: So the B plot is a c and girl boss.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Yeah, girl like Kelly, she's more like, uh not Lisa.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Who's the other one's name, Jesse?
- 36:59Speaker 3: Okay, I'm trying to think of a caffeine pill joke.
- 37:02Speaker 3: But but anyway, So they're they're running around goofing off,
- 37:08Speaker 3: and they're playing like Gus lago or or or or
- 37:12Speaker 3: whatever they're they're doing in the science lab. And then
- 37:15Speaker 3: they spent a significant amount of time chasing this warp
- 37:19Speaker 3: slug around the around the academy and trying to shoot it.
- 37:29Speaker 4: With the with the mister Freeze laser gun.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Yep.
- 37:33Speaker 3: Meanwhile, like we had episodes of Star Trek where who
- 37:45Speaker 3: was who was the tactical officer on Enterprise, Red Reid
- 37:52Speaker 3: wanted to go on a hunting trip with those aliens
- 37:55Speaker 3: and archers, Like, but you can't shoot anything, You're just
- 37:58Speaker 3: there to observes. No, I won't I won't shoot anything.
- 38:00Speaker 3: I won't hurt. It won't hurt another life form, Captain,
- 38:04Speaker 3: don't worry. And these kids are running around shooting warp slugs.
- 38:10Speaker 4: It's what you do.
- 38:15Speaker 3: I mean, they're trying to deliberately hurt an innocent life form.
- 38:20Speaker 3: And that's the least Star Trek like thing I can
- 38:24Speaker 3: think of. I mean, we have Peanut Hamper because they
- 38:27Speaker 3: weren't allowed to reprogram that thing because oh I think
- 38:33Speaker 3: it's I think it's self aware. Yeah, that, and you know,
- 38:39Speaker 3: you have transporters if you need to get it back
- 38:41Speaker 3: in the bucket, just lock onto it and transport it
- 38:44Speaker 3: back into there. But you know, there's whatever.
- 38:48Speaker 4: Well, so her whole storyline is that she's been she's
- 38:55Speaker 4: been nominated to go on to the the command track, right,
- 38:58Speaker 4: the Captain's track as they call it. So but to
- 39:01Speaker 4: do that, her whole application to story for these is
- 39:05Speaker 4: going to be reevaluated, and apparently that's going to be
- 39:07Speaker 4: a problem. So she needs to get her evaluationing and
- 39:13Speaker 4: I don't know, fix it, I guess.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Or yes, can can anybody explain? Why?
- 39:18Speaker 3: So didn't they all pick a track on their first
- 39:22Speaker 3: day before they walk through the makeover machine because is
- 39:27Speaker 3: an ac slater undeclared?
- 39:30Speaker 4: Yeah, so what I think you have to be nominated
- 39:34Speaker 4: for the Captain's track, but who knows?
- 39:38Speaker 3: Okay, but but then what is the command track? Right?
- 39:43Speaker 3: It doesn't make sense, No, it absolutely does not make sense,
- 39:46Speaker 3: Like like everything on this show, like just little things
- 39:51Speaker 3: like this is this is a military installation and it's
- 39:54Speaker 3: deserted for a holiday. Yeah, there would still be security there,
- 39:59Speaker 3: there would still be support staff there. Hey, there are people,
- 40:02Speaker 3: there are people who are not There are people who
- 40:05Speaker 3: are not cadets. But this is their post. They live there.
- 40:09Speaker 3: There are homes there, there are schools for their children there,
- 40:12Speaker 3: there are hairdressers there, there's you go on, you go on.
- 40:15Speaker 3: I've been to West Point. West Point is a military
- 40:18Speaker 3: base that also happens to be a military academy. So
- 40:22Speaker 3: there's a there's a supermarket, there's restaurants, there's you know,
- 40:26Speaker 3: it's a little it's a little self contained town. There's
- 40:30Speaker 3: schools for the children of the service members that are
- 40:34Speaker 3: that are stationed there. Uh, it's a whole town. The
- 40:39Speaker 3: idea that it would just be deserted because it's yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Any any military installation. You're there on Memorial the weekend. Yeah,
- 40:49Speaker 1: there's not as many people there, but there are still
- 40:51Speaker 1: people there running the town. A military base is like
- 40:54Speaker 1: dance at a small town. The stores are still open,
- 40:57Speaker 1: the you know, the cops are still around. The know.
- 41:00Speaker 1: It's it's it's still functions.
- 41:02Speaker 3: And the idea and then two of them can just
- 41:04Speaker 3: walk onto the bridge and start, you know, messing with shit.
- 41:08Speaker 3: It's just it makes no sense. It's so stupid. And
- 41:11Speaker 3: if they did do that, they would be fired, they
- 41:12Speaker 3: would be kicked out of the academy. It's it's the
- 41:15Speaker 3: equivalent of you know, it's Saturday afternoon, there's no classes
- 41:18Speaker 3: at West Point, but you know what, let's take this
- 41:20Speaker 3: tank first spin.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Right Yeah? Right? So, and yeah, why did they What
- 41:26Speaker 1: was her motivation to begin with? Like I tried to
- 41:29Speaker 1: understand her, she she had to do something with her
- 41:32Speaker 1: application because in her their application they were going to
- 41:35Speaker 1: find out because they were going to scrutinize her application because.
- 41:39Speaker 4: From what I understood, she had falsified her application and
- 41:45Speaker 4: changed her letters of recommendations to what were originally stated,
- 41:50Speaker 4: and so she was afraid that when they re evaluated
- 41:53Speaker 4: her application they would realize they were falsified and kick
- 41:57Speaker 4: her out.
- 41:57Speaker 1: That part I caught. Okay, why did she her motivation
- 42:04Speaker 1: for why she falsified?
- 42:07Speaker 4: Because somebody put that she was motivated by fear instead
- 42:11Speaker 4: of duty, and so she didn't want to be known
- 42:14Speaker 4: as a timid person or a cowardly person.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Okay, she thought she was pretty damn thin reason to
- 42:24Speaker 1: start this b plot in the first place.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they've kind of established that pretty much
- 42:30Speaker 3: anyone can go to this academy.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Like covering up a criminal like a criminal activity, or
- 42:36Speaker 1: covering up an identity, theft, or covering up something big.
- 42:40Speaker 1: But like the further and further they got into this,
- 42:43Speaker 1: and the further and further that she got into her
- 42:45Speaker 1: explanation why she was doing this, It's like, well, I
- 42:47Speaker 1: didn't want anybody to know that the reason why I
- 42:50Speaker 1: originally applied for the academy was because I was scared
- 42:54Speaker 1: to do I did it out of fear.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Like wait, what, But again, the reality.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Is nobody gives a shit.
- 43:02Speaker 3: If she did those things, why is she still there?
- 43:06Speaker 3: She should be fired. She committed felonies, Yeah, why is
- 43:11Speaker 3: she still there?
- 43:13Speaker 4: Well, and while Bill makes a good point, it was
- 43:15Speaker 4: big in her mind. It wasn't necessarily that it was big,
- 43:17Speaker 4: but it was big in her mind. The thing is
- 43:21Speaker 4: for me. It kind of shows how incompetent the Federation
- 43:26Speaker 4: has become, because you had those people kidnap a student
- 43:30Speaker 4: and nobody seemed to notice until Jaden popped through the
- 43:34Speaker 4: through the hole and went and try to rescue him. Right,
- 43:38Speaker 4: so apparently intruders can just get in there and it's
- 43:41Speaker 4: not an issue, right, Like, they don't they don't realize
- 43:44Speaker 4: technology is being used on whatever. And then her falsifying
- 43:49Speaker 4: documents and nobody noticed originally, so what's going on with
- 43:54Speaker 4: the federation. Are we just like super Incompetent plus last
- 43:58Speaker 4: week and applications.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Through AI where they can like look for inconsistencies.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Or but even then, now that you know, you just
- 44:07Speaker 4: gotta let her stay. Yeah, once you've got her Dadmirle,
- 44:10Speaker 4: you're not gonna go against him.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Apparently, Hey, everything's cool. Yeah, you can get away with us.
- 44:18Speaker 4: I almost think they should have made her Advance's daughter.
- 44:21Speaker 3: It's like no one's watched Star Trek. Yeah, our first
- 44:27Speaker 3: duty is to the truth. That's what Jean Luke Icard
- 44:30Speaker 3: said to Wesley Crusher to convince him to tell the
- 44:34Speaker 3: truth and do the right thing. Our first duty is
- 44:37Speaker 3: to the truth. Now who are we saying that to?
- 44:39Speaker 3: Are we saying that to Girl Boss? Or are we
- 44:42Speaker 3: saying that to Captain Nala? You know now that she's
- 44:48Speaker 3: a liar? Why is she there? Yeah, she should be gone.
- 44:55Speaker 4: Yeah, we're at the very least some sort of like
- 44:58Speaker 4: demotion or something.
- 45:01Speaker 3: What are you going to demot to?
- 45:02Speaker 4: Well, okay, yeah, you kick her out and you can
- 45:04Speaker 4: apply again next year.
- 45:05Speaker 1: But out of the Command Track program. And they got
- 45:09Speaker 1: four hundred hours of community service to do, which will
- 45:12Speaker 1: be done by the next episode.
- 45:13Speaker 4: Right, Oh yeah, yeah, that's anything.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Because between last episode and this episode, a month has
- 45:18Speaker 1: gone by, so dime has no meaning anywhere. And then
- 45:23Speaker 1: they were also uh a c. Slater was also spending
- 45:28Speaker 1: the entire episode trying to pen a letter to.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Max to Kelly, that's right, yes.
- 45:40Speaker 1: And I'm just like, why can't just write the letter?
- 45:44Speaker 1: If all you say is I wanted to write you,
- 45:47Speaker 1: I don't know what to say. I hope you're doing okay.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I don't understand people that that him and Haw about
- 45:53Speaker 1: letters like this.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Well, even for his character doesn't make sense because he
- 45:58Speaker 4: was He's been on the run for so long, so
- 46:02Speaker 4: he could even say like, look, i know what it's
- 46:04Speaker 4: like to be alone. I'm not going to leave you alone.
- 46:06Speaker 4: Let me write you a letter. And then maybe she's
- 46:08Speaker 4: rejecting the letters or they're just being sent back something.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Right, she doesn't make She says new phone.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Yeah, he gets the digital equivalent of like a stack
- 46:19Speaker 1: of letters tied up in a nice boat. Yeah, it
- 46:21Speaker 1: just it Forrest Gum, Yeah he got, he.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Got, or or it could even be or it could
- 46:30Speaker 4: even be right that the dad is rejecting them, right,
- 46:33Speaker 4: because she's been in a coma. So the Dad's like,
- 46:35Speaker 4: I don't want you to have anything to do with
- 46:36Speaker 4: this guy, right, And so then when when Genesis is like,
- 46:40Speaker 4: I need to get on the bridge, it could have
- 46:42Speaker 4: been Look, if we can get on the bridge, you
- 46:44Speaker 4: can use their communications array and you can send your
- 46:47Speaker 4: letter to your girlfriend. Right, it'll it'll bypass the dad.
- 46:52Speaker 4: You can do that. We'll get you there to do that.
- 46:54Speaker 4: Then that makes a little bit more sense and true
- 46:57Speaker 4: to the characters.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know see how the see how this works.
- 47:01Speaker 4: People discussing so much. Yeah, yeah, you're still doing all
- 47:07Speaker 4: the same things, but.
- 47:08Speaker 1: It just you know, there's motivation behind it.
- 47:12Speaker 4: There's motivation. It is in line with the characters.
- 47:16Speaker 1: You know.
- 47:17Speaker 4: Yeah, trases their kids in school, kids make mistakes. Stop
- 47:23Speaker 4: holding them up to stirfleet protocols or comparing them to
- 47:27Speaker 4: the US military.
- 47:30Speaker 3: No, it's a military academy, and she committed crimes. She
- 47:35Speaker 3: committed actual crimes.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Yeah, this isn't a public school.
- 47:39Speaker 3: He committed crimes. Trying to help her cover up her
- 47:41Speaker 3: past crimes. That's not treating them like kids, that's treating
- 47:45Speaker 3: them like people.
- 47:46Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. And the other thing too, that that kind
- 47:51Speaker 4: of bothered me was when he's helping Nala pack and
- 47:55Speaker 4: they're like buddy, buddy, and he's like, hey, we need
- 47:58Speaker 4: to find my mom and then never really does anything
- 48:01Speaker 4: else about it again, like he's not trying to hack
- 48:04Speaker 4: the computer to see like, Okay, what does Starfleet know
- 48:06Speaker 4: about my mom? What's going on? Like none of that.
- 48:09Speaker 4: Just trust me, bro, I'm looking for her. What.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Also, this isn't a high school, right, this is this
- 48:17Speaker 1: is post high school. This is so, this is this
- 48:19Speaker 1: is university, this is this is an academy. You know,
- 48:23Speaker 1: how many for all of those who went to college,
- 48:26Speaker 1: how many people did you know that outright cheated or
- 48:30Speaker 1: broke into the dean's office? Number one. I didn't know
- 48:34Speaker 1: anybody who just outright cheated or broke into the dean's office.
- 48:37Speaker 1: But I've heard of those people that it happened to,
- 48:40Speaker 1: and they outright got expelled because they got You know,
- 48:43Speaker 1: this isn't this isn't a public school. You know, this
- 48:47Speaker 1: isn't this. This is an academy. This is you have
- 48:50Speaker 1: to apply to get in. This is the rules are known,
- 48:52Speaker 1: you're held to a higher standard. And this is a
- 48:54Speaker 1: military academy or or the or the equivalent of Starfleet Academy.
- 49:00Speaker 3: They have no they have no sense of what uh
- 49:07Speaker 3: the decorum should be in a military academy setting. You
- 49:12Speaker 3: have Kyle kissing Jaden in front of everyone. Forget for
- 49:16Speaker 3: a minute, heterosexual homosexual doesn't matter, doesn't matter. Public displays
- 49:22Speaker 3: of affection between cadets. Yeah, it would absolutely not be allowed.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Would not be allowed, whether we're talking about West Point Annapolis,
- 49:33Speaker 3: It doesn't matter if you had a male Basically, if
- 49:36Speaker 3: you had a male cadet who leans over and kisses
- 49:39Speaker 3: a female cadet in front of in front of people,
- 49:44Speaker 3: not gonna happen.
- 49:45Speaker 4: Nope. Yeah, I will say I did like Sam's hair
- 49:51Speaker 4: poofs fun.
- 49:53Speaker 1: I like him. I like Sam. You don't know what
- 49:55Speaker 1: it is about her. I'm trying to figure out what
- 49:59Speaker 1: what she is is, what kind of hollow graham she is?
- 50:03Speaker 1: What kind of people?
- 50:05Speaker 4: I would love to know more about that.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I'd like to know more about that.
- 50:08Speaker 3: What I would have been interested in seeing what she
- 50:14Speaker 3: did for spring break?
- 50:15Speaker 1: But we did the robot people from u K.
- 50:18Speaker 4: Yeah, Kaylon, I'm amazed you didn't go back to her
- 50:21Speaker 4: robot handlers for break. I mean, she's supposed to be
- 50:25Speaker 4: an emissary and report back to them.
- 50:29Speaker 3: I wanted to I wanted to see I wanted to
- 50:33Speaker 3: see Dwhite Schultz. I wanted to see holographic Barkley fixing. Yeah,
- 50:41Speaker 3: you know the holographic maintenance program Mark twelve and it's
- 50:46Speaker 3: and it's Reach Barkley.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Apparently she had to go to the hollow Spot to
- 50:50Speaker 4: get repaired.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Okay, they put they put holographic cucumbers, right.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I did like jet Rey, you know, I like take
- 51:00Speaker 1: Nataro everything she's in. I thought it was weird that
- 51:03Speaker 1: she had a stubbed toe, but I thought it was
- 51:06Speaker 1: also weird her girlfriend, uh uh commander Yeah. I like
- 51:15Speaker 1: they couldn't get that actress, like her voice over. I
- 51:20Speaker 1: don't think that she came in to do vo work
- 51:22Speaker 1: for this episode because you couldn't hear what she was
- 51:25Speaker 1: saying over the con clearly. I think they took dialogue
- 51:28Speaker 1: that she had in previous episodes and just kind of
- 51:31Speaker 1: like because you couldn't hear anything she said clearly.
- 51:36Speaker 3: If it's if all of her dialogue is going to
- 51:38Speaker 3: be as if she's speaking over the com system, I
- 51:42Speaker 3: mean she could literally phone it in and record it.
- 51:44Speaker 4: That way, and kind I kind of had a feeling
- 51:47Speaker 4: that's what happened. Yeah, She's like, I'm not putting on
- 51:51Speaker 4: that makeup for this episode. No, I'm going to the
- 51:55Speaker 4: recording booth. That's we're done.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:58Speaker 4: So what was this? Number seven? This is seven?
- 52:01Speaker 1: We got three more?
- 52:02Speaker 4: Three more?
- 52:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and then we can review he Man.
- 52:06Speaker 3: I can, I can make it.
- 52:08Speaker 4: We're almost there, buddy, We're almost there. Watching the Rapp
- 52:13Speaker 4: video she loves You. Let He'll give you the Power.
- 52:18Speaker 1: You guys, we're doing he Man. By the way, we're
- 52:23Speaker 1: doing the eighties. Oh yeah, yeah, before we do the
- 52:26Speaker 1: blockbuster summer movie, we're going to review the nineteen eighties Dolphin.
- 52:32Speaker 4: Masters of the Universe.
- 52:33Speaker 3: Yes, Master, Okay, so do you want to review or
- 52:36Speaker 3: do you want to try doing one of those watch
- 52:38Speaker 3: party things?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Oh? God, do we do?
- 52:40Speaker 3: We have a way to do that.
- 52:42Speaker 1: I don't think we do, do we, Daniel?
- 52:44Speaker 4: I mean, is do it like we do this. The
- 52:48Speaker 4: only way we would be able to broadcast it is
- 52:50Speaker 4: like through Discord. We couldn't do it through YouTube or
- 52:56Speaker 4: Twitch or anything like that because we'll get flagged. But
- 52:59Speaker 4: if it's our own price of it Discord channel, which
- 53:02Speaker 4: we have one, we just never use it. Okay, we
- 53:05Speaker 4: could broadcast it there.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I've never seen it.
- 53:08Speaker 3: You never seen it?
- 53:09Speaker 1: No, I've never seen it.
- 53:10Speaker 4: Oh God, get your fried chicken. You're in for a treat.
- 53:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:14Speaker 1: I mean I've seen snippets of it. You know, I
- 53:17Speaker 1: know what all the characters look like. But but my boy, uh,
- 53:21Speaker 1: Robbie McNeil's in it, so I'm looking.
- 53:23Speaker 4: Yeah. Did you tell you to watch it?
- 53:25Speaker 1: Yeah? He said, go ahead and watch it.
- 53:26Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, that's good. He was.
- 53:28Speaker 3: He was messing with.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Scott all that he's always doing that little rascals.
- 53:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Yeah, good old buddy of mine.
- 53:40Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, Well that was the episode. Should we
- 53:44Speaker 4: try to say something nice about it, because it sounds
- 53:47Speaker 4: like we didn't.
- 53:48Speaker 3: Yeah, give me a minute.
- 53:49Speaker 14: Yeah, uh, I noticed, you know something I noticed about
- 53:55Speaker 14: this episode, And I'm just looking around and and his
- 53:59Speaker 14: I it ties into what I did yesterday.
- 54:02Speaker 1: I went and saw a musical yesterday at the high school.
- 54:06Speaker 1: I saw Grease and they put on a fantastic production.
- 54:12Speaker 1: And one of the things that makes a fantastic production,
- 54:15Speaker 1: one of many, many things, is the sets and the
- 54:19Speaker 1: design of the sets and what they can do with nothing,
- 54:22Speaker 1: with plywood and just a little bit of paint and
- 54:27Speaker 1: some ingenuity. And then I was looking at the sets
- 54:30Speaker 1: in Star Trek and I'm looking at like the benches,
- 54:34Speaker 1: and I'm looking at the walls, and I'm like, you
- 54:38Speaker 1: can't buy any of this at the furniture store. All
- 54:43Speaker 1: of this has to be made. All of these chairs
- 54:46Speaker 1: have to be made, all of these wall decorations have
- 54:49Speaker 1: to be made. All of these little tunnel things, these staircases,
- 54:52Speaker 1: these railings, these things in the background that are you
- 54:56Speaker 1: physically have to be able to interact with to have
- 54:59Speaker 1: to be built. The talent that goes into that, the
- 55:03Speaker 1: art that goes into that, I am absolutely blown away by.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I just I just think that there's so much imagination
- 55:11Speaker 1: that goes into.
- 55:12Speaker 3: That though with AI and yeah, all those jobs are threatened.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Oh sure right now. Yeah, even the floors. You know,
- 55:28Speaker 1: all that stuff has to be meticulously planned, manufactured, you know,
- 55:34Speaker 1: they have to and they have to use real world items.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Some things have to be made from scratch. Some things
- 55:39Speaker 1: you do have to go to home depot and modify,
- 55:42Speaker 1: you know, the clear railings, the supports for the railings.
- 55:46Speaker 1: You got to figure out new materials and different ways
- 55:49Speaker 1: of using these materials and just yeah. These set designers
- 55:53Speaker 1: are just I think of the unsung heroes of the show.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Yeah, no, that they have awesome sets for sure.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 56:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:06Speaker 1: It was the hairpoofs so beautiful.
- 56:09Speaker 4: What is the hair poofs? I like those?
- 56:15Speaker 3: I got nothing?
- 56:16Speaker 4: Yeah, sorry, I'm usually, I'm usually. The other thing is
- 56:20Speaker 4: like there wasn't much going on. There was no stakes,
- 56:22Speaker 4: and I get it because last week's was so so
- 56:25Speaker 4: intense that they needed to to, you know, bring it
- 56:28Speaker 4: down a little bit. But honestly, like I saw a
- 56:31Speaker 4: lot of people saying this episode was just boring, you know,
- 56:37Speaker 4: even shot boring, Like characters weren't doing anything. They were
- 56:40Speaker 4: just sitting in the rooms talking. Yeah.
- 56:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I got nothing. I'm sorry.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, all right, Well, hey I have something I
- 56:55Speaker 1: want to show you.
- 56:56Speaker 4: What's that?
- 56:58Speaker 3: Oh? Make it so? I have make it soap?
- 57:01Speaker 1: Ye, make it so. I got this for Valentine's Day.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Nice for those of you listening and looking deeply into
- 57:08Speaker 1: your radios. It's a little bar of Captain McCard soap
- 57:11Speaker 1: John Luke's make it So.
- 57:14Speaker 3: One of my co workers got me that for Christmas
- 57:16Speaker 3: a few years ago, along with these are cool He
- 57:20Speaker 3: got me two of them. It's a it's a passport,
- 57:25Speaker 3: but it says United Federation Planets and it has the
- 57:29Speaker 3: logo on it instead of.
- 57:32Speaker 1: I just noticed what it says here says the bath
- 57:35Speaker 1: must be drawn here.
- 57:41Speaker 4: Oh boy, that's pretty great that I never noticed that.
- 57:47Speaker 3: It smells good too. I keep it in the desk,
- 57:50Speaker 3: my desk.
- 57:53Speaker 4: All right, well, should we get the listener feedback? Cool
- 58:00Speaker 4: listener feedback? That's right. Uh so, if you guys want
- 58:08Speaker 4: to join us, x up in the chat and then
- 58:10Speaker 4: we will send you the link for you to join us.
- 58:12Speaker 4: We're also on social media where you can find us
- 58:16Speaker 4: at trek cast TNG basically across the internet. You might
- 58:21Speaker 4: even be watching us right now on Instagram, so there
- 58:23Speaker 4: you go.
- 58:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:26Speaker 4: We also do have a voicemail number. It's five seven
- 58:31Speaker 4: zero sixty six to one zero zero zero one. People
- 58:34Speaker 4: leave us voicemails and then we play them on the show.
- 58:37Speaker 4: We actually got one this week, so why don't we
- 58:40Speaker 4: play that? Oh hold on, cancel, Sorry I hit the
- 58:47Speaker 4: wrong thing there it is okay, here we go.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Here.
- 58:55Speaker 12: I'm in Shoreham, Sussex, South coast of England. I hope
- 59:00Speaker 12: this message finds you well. I'm not going to spend
- 59:02Speaker 12: too long reviewing this show because you can only say
- 59:05Speaker 12: it's rubbish in so many ways, but this one I
- 59:08Speaker 12: thought was particularly boring.
- 59:11Speaker 3: No.
- 59:11Speaker 12: I wanted to send this message because I sent a
- 59:14Speaker 12: supplemental a few weeks ago. It hasn't been played on
- 59:16Speaker 12: the show, and.
- 59:17Speaker 1: This was mainly.
- 59:20Speaker 12: Aimed at Dan when he was saying how I fed
- 59:24Speaker 12: up he was having to come on and diss the
- 59:27Speaker 12: show and it was getting to him. But I sent
- 59:31Speaker 12: a supplemental saying, no, please, don't let it get to you.
- 59:34Speaker 12: This is what this is what your show is about,
- 59:37Speaker 12: and you only have to do it for ten weeks
- 59:40Speaker 12: and then you got the rest of the wonderful Star
- 59:42Speaker 12: Trek to talk about for the rest of the time.
- 59:46Speaker 12: I did want to say, strong Beard, I can't. I
- 59:51Speaker 12: called you the morale officer because you're always trying to
- 59:54Speaker 12: keep the vibe positive. But this has even got to you,
- 59:58Speaker 12: my friend, and I know last week Dan, you were
- 1:00:02Speaker 12: really upset about the show, but it was just one
- 1:00:05Speaker 12: of the funniest shows you've done, especially Strongbeard losing it
- 1:00:12Speaker 12: and pretending it's just a highlight. So please, Dan, I
- 1:00:17Speaker 12: know you say it's getting you down. But just know
- 1:00:21Speaker 12: that your show, all of you boys, is better and
- 1:00:25Speaker 12: well thought out, and Daniel, your ideas, all three of you,
- 1:00:30Speaker 12: when you come together, you can write a better show
- 1:00:33Speaker 12: without even trying, you know. And I just wanted to
- 1:00:37Speaker 12: say that we're always told that this show is written
- 1:00:40Speaker 12: for kids, but that doesn't mean it has to be
- 1:00:42Speaker 12: crap hearing that and look at things like Toy Story
- 1:00:45Speaker 12: and The Incredibles or any of the other early Pixar stuff. Anyway,
- 1:00:49Speaker 12: that's my two minutes, Live long and prosper.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Love you guys, Oh we love you too.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: I just dripped the Gmail and apparently his his supplemental
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: went straight to the spam filter. So sorry, buddy, I
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: didn't know that. Oh no, uh but yeah, well you.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Know I never checked the spam filter of strong Beer
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: one seven one at gmail dot com.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: There's gonna be like a ton of emails in there.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: I hope not. I Oh no, I hope not.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, well, uh yeah, I'm glad he enjoys
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: us our misery.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Yeah no, I don't have anything, okay, spam folder.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: Well, uh, we got strong beer or instrum, yes, that's right,
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: sorry flash back, Yeah, we got let me bring him on.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: There he is, Hey, our daddy wants to ride Harley here.
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: That's right, Harley, whoa, whoa? I should be more specific,
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: Harley Davidson.
- 1:02:18Speaker 9: I figured it fit with the show this week.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: You know, love it. I love it like this.
- 1:02:22Speaker 9: Whole love triangle, the Klingon and the fish boy and
- 1:02:27Speaker 9: then the white boy.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: You know that's right.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: Who got stood up and and was fine with it.
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: He was like, yeah, bye, Well.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: He did mention something. I told what's his face? About
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: what happened? So and so told me about what happened.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: So I thought. I thought that he had just gotten
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: back and they hadn't seen each other yet. That would
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: have been awkward, like where the hell have you been
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: for four days? That's not the case. They they had
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: seen each other, and he did explain him. Yeah, they had.
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: As you know, if only if only they bore devices
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: that they could communicate with each other.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: Mm hmmm, yeah, if only.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: If only. Maybe someday technology will progress to the point
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: where he could just call him and say, hey, something
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: came up.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: We're be able to make devices.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: Just like that.
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: I know, and probably then that it's implanted into them
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: where they could easily they probably wouldn't even have to
- 1:03:27Speaker 9: click it.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: They just.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: A message to Kyle. I got to tell him I
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: got abducted at amount of wedding.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I went to another man's wedding to see Kyle. Yeah.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: So would you think of the episode? Uh, jazz Beard,
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: I cannot talk today, man, go ahead, strong strong biz.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, chest Beard.
- 1:04:03Speaker 9: I thought this episode was kind of well. I only
- 1:04:06Speaker 9: watched it once and it took me two days to
- 1:04:08Speaker 9: watch it.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: Oh wow, Yes, I watched the.
- 1:04:12Speaker 9: First thirty minutes and I was like, I got another
- 1:04:15Speaker 9: about twenty five.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Watch so many times when.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: You plus star Trek, it's say, I think we're gonna
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: go shovel snow instead.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:27Speaker 9: Yeah, well I was gonna say, this is the type
- 1:04:30Speaker 9: of show that you leave on in the background while
- 1:04:32Speaker 9: you're mowing the lawn. So yeah, I mean it's it's
- 1:04:41Speaker 9: one of those that I don't know.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: The thing, isn't it. The thing is, it's not just
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: us man. The viewership numbers are not there.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: It's plummeted like the second or third week that hasn't
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: cracked the top ten and in paramounts whatever.
- 1:04:55Speaker 9: I guarantee if you saw the Nelson's the true Nelson's
- 1:04:57Speaker 9: it would probably be like wait, wait on the list.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: So I can't remember the actress's name. I can't even
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: remember her character's name, but uh, neurodivergent holographic girl Sam damn. Okay,
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: So the actor. I saw an article. The actor basically
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: said something that if people keep review bombing this show,
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: the franchise is in danger of going away.
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: One of the concept artists said the same thing.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: And you know it's not review bombing. Yeah, if you
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: if you if if if you see something and it's
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: and it's no good and you explain why it's no good,
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: that's not review bombing. That's that's reviewing. Yeah, that's reviewing.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: Okay, well what even if it was review bombed but
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: it had strong numbers, they only care about the numbers.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: Yes, yes, And I'm getting to the point where the
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: franchise will net. It's never going to die, yeah, Star
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: Trek is never going to go away completely. But it
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: needs a rest. Yeah, it needs a rest. And I
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: feel like if they if this show is over and
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: Strange New Worlds finishes up, they're like, you know what,
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: We're going to take five or six years off. I
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: think I'd be okay with that? Yeah, because because because
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: because they would shut everything down, right, and then when
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: they started up, when they go to the network and
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: they're like, hey, we want to uh are they go
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: to corporate or however you want to say, hey we
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: want to bring back Star Trek. They're going to have
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: to show we have an idea, it's good and it's
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: going to make some money. And the decision makers are
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: going to look back on the history of Star Trek
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: and are going to say, where was it firing on
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: all cylinders? Where was it not? Oh, this stuff right
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: here was really popular and made a lot of money.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Replicate that this stuff was not very popular. Don't replicate that,
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: right And I think that would be the best thing
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: for it at this point, just to just keep doing
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: what they've been doing for the last ten years. Yeah, nope,
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: not interested in.
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: The old network would have pulled this show by now, yeah,
- 1:07:34Speaker 9: oh yeah, yeah, you would have an extra episode of
- 1:07:38Speaker 9: Seinfeld or something right now, like to replace it, like
- 1:07:41Speaker 9: watch Seinfeld on Thursday nights now if you missed it
- 1:07:44Speaker 9: on Tuesday or something.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: Well, you know, the the heyday of Star Trek on TV,
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: which was TNG Deep Space nine Voyager and Enterprise. The
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: show was syndicated. Yeah, so you had to sell it
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: to affiliates. It's not a network that would have pulled it.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: You had to sell it to affiliates, and affiliates would
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: have said, this isn't pulling in the numbers, we are
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: going to show reruns of Seinfeld instead. We got you know,
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: I don't know how the numbers work, but you know
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: this show is pulling seven Seinfeld is pulling ninees sorry
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: on a Seinfeld.
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: Yeah, they would have. Yeah, they get a little runway
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: with the programming like that, Cindy get a programming. But
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: after that, yeah, they could pull it and or they
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: would reschedule it. Maybe not necessarily pull it. They would
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: put it, you know, like two am on a Saturday morning. Yeah, right,
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: they would just slowly die.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: I mean when when Star Trek was firing on all
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: cylinders in the early to mid nineteen nineties, the New
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: York City affiliate WPIX Channel eleven, which which showed TNG
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: and Deep Space, they were showing it twice a week. Yeah,
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: they would show it on whatever night. I don't I
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: don't remember what night it came out. That's how long
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: it's been. But then they would reshow it at Sunday nights.
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: Eleven thirty was TG and twelve thirty was Deep Space nine.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: And even when TG ended, they would still show reruns.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Sunday nights.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: So they were showing them twice a week.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: It's just yeah, it's it is rough right now. So yeah,
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: the review bombings are not what's the problem. It's the numbers.
- 1:09:39Speaker 9: Yeah. So it's just I saw the rotten Tomato scores.
- 1:09:43Speaker 9: Is you know, critic reviews eighty eight, you know people's
- 1:09:49Speaker 9: reviews or for.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's big disparity.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and I feel bad because, you know, you hear
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: people like Tawny Newsom saying, hey, you know, support the show,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: sports the show. I like people like Tawny Newsome. I
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: think was talented, and I wish I could get behind her.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: I wish I could support her, you know, the stuff
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: that she's doing, you know, and and and and people
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: like Jonathan Frakes are involved in the show, and you know,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: but it's tough to support people.
- 1:10:17Speaker 9: Like it wasn't it was how our character was written.
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: I mean she was a sweetheart, like.
- 1:10:28Speaker 9: Sweetheart, Yeah, it's it's the way they wrote her first
- 1:10:34Speaker 9: two seasons. The third season she wasn't bad.
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: No, I actually enjoyed the third season. I actually enjoyed
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: her dynamic with with War.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: Yeah, but even that written better, it was great.
- 1:10:47Speaker 9: That course corrected. And that's the problem is if you
- 1:10:50Speaker 9: film the next season with the first season and everybody
- 1:10:54Speaker 9: hates the first season, well they're going to hate the
- 1:10:56Speaker 9: second season.
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: So the thing is, ten years from now, they're gonna
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: review what they did during this era, and then they're
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: gonna see like The Cards season three, and they're gonna
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: be like, oh, that's what people wanted. Because The Card
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: season three was like the Internet was a buzz, loved it.
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: The ratings were high, like people were excited. Yeah, and
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: then they'll get LeVar Burton who might still be probably
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: still be alive, and whoever else.
- 1:11:19Speaker 9: They're all in their eighties right now.
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, we'll bring them back.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: And then.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well another ten years, we should have Patrick
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: Stewart's heavy metal album.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, what's what's Terry Mettalli's doing right now?
- 1:11:39Speaker 9: Vision Quest?
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:11:41Speaker 9: Okay, because Marvel Pick scooped him up and Disney was smart,
- 1:11:47Speaker 9: you know, we.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Gotta go fund me going.
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: Bring back Terry Metallans.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I would.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Love to break or something like, can we get one
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: of those AI? Can we get one of those AI
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: things where you had you know, like you've seen those
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: things where your superheroes fighting, like Donald Trump or whatever.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: I want to see Alex Kurtzman versus Terry mettallas.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: K Alex Kurtzman versus Donald Trump. I thought that's what
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: you were going.
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: I was hoping that had been your birthday. Cameo was
- 1:12:24Speaker 9: Alex Kurtzman Terry.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: He wasn't listening, Alex Kirtzman versus Terry Mettallas AI And
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: I just want to see Terry Metallis knock him off
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: a cliff.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: Sometimes you just have to give people the things that
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: they want. So there's a there's a UFC fight coming
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: up mm hmm. And it's Ronda Ralsey versus Gina. Yeah,
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: and it's and it's one of these things where some
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: but he was like, yeah, this is people want to
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: see this person again. They want to see this person again.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: Let's put these people together and we're gonna sell an
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: ass load of tickets.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and it will be on Netflix.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: People want to again, people want to see seven of
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: nine again. Let's put these two things together and sell
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: a bunch of tickets.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: I've never once sought out a UFC fight. I will
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: be watching that fight.
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: Yes, So I gotta say, technically, it's not a UFC fight.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: It's the two ladies decided they wanted to fight and.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: About it. I thought it was.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: It's not on Uh uh is it Netflix that has
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: UFC now or.
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: Pay?
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: So this is?
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: This is on Netflix? Okay, So they can't fight in
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: an octagon because UFC owns the rights to only fighting
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: in octagons, so they have fighting Yeah, it's so weird. Yeah,
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: apparently they they went to UFC and said, hey, we
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: want to do this fight. Well, you know, do you
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: want to promote it? And UFC was like, nah, can
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: they fight a five sided five six sided ring?
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: What about five seided ring? Can they fight in a
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: five set of rink?
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: I mean maybe a triangle? Yeah, maybe an oval?
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: How about they're going to fight at the Pentagon?
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: Like, well, they're supposed to be a UFC fighting friend
- 1:14:29Speaker 9: of the White House this year.
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, that's in July.
- 1:14:32Speaker 9: So I mean, like anything, anything is possible. That's happening
- 1:14:36Speaker 9: that that's actually happening.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's like take Star Trek because we're talking about
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: this and we're all excited.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I want is the Star Trek fighting game.
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: Just all the characters, let them fight. I want to
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: do fireballs with.
- 1:14:56Speaker 9: Seven versus why you can shoot?
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: Is it like a like a street type Yeah, it's
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: street better type game with all the characters, so.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: All their special moves are like yeah, cards, throwing fireballs
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: and yeah, make it so and so.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Oh real. Quickly, I wanted to mention I got to
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: play Star Trek Voyagers Unknown, which is basically it's uh,
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: it's basically a resource Uh. You basically have to manage
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: resources with a bit of choose your own adventure game.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I spent most of my time downloading the game and
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: downloading the stuff around the game. Yeah. I've got a
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: all in one computer. Okay, I've got an ass all
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: in one. It's a brand new one, but it's still
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: not exactly a gaming setup. It's it's like, you know,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: it's a monitor and computer all in one. So it's
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: it's pretty low hardware. It was able to run the
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: game just fine if you have it on the game
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: on its lowest graphic settings. It for for somebody like me,
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: you know, I've got ADHD and it's it's hard for
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: me to to pay attention to. Like, I'm like, as
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: far as the resources go, I'm I'm all over the place, like, oh,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I need to fix the holiday decks, and I need
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: to fix the medical bay, and I need to fix
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: the computer room and I need to you know, I'm
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I'm I'm all scattered rain. Yeah, I need to get
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: the cheese out of the jailpacks. So I've barely scratched
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: the service of this game, but it looks really interesting.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: It's available for PS five, Xbox whatever the latest Xbox
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: is switch to, and for the PC, so check that out. Also,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: right now, the Star Trek Crew is going on.
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: Oh that's right.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, very that thing. It is very expensive, but uh,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: you gotta pay them celebs, because you know, I think
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: it would be fun for us. I don't know how
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: much fun it would be for some of these celebrities.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I almost feel sorry.
- 1:17:22Speaker 9: No, I think they enjoy it because you know, now
- 1:17:24Speaker 9: they have to hide.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: I guarantee you yeah, because it's it's just a week
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: of people like us constantly taking out.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: A lot of well actually a lot.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: When acutely, how much does it cost I'm just curious.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Uh, I'm not sure. If you look at the average
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: price for a cruise ticket, it's almost twice as much
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: as your average cruise ticket.
- 1:17:55Speaker 8: Now.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Fun fact, uh they are. They're actually on the same
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: ship that my wife and I went on two years ago.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: They're on the Adventure of the Seas, which is a
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: Royal Caribbean, which is actually their smaller one of the
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: smaller one of their older ships.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: The amount of Adora hats that will be on the cruise.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean I'm sure it's a good time.
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:30Speaker 9: All right, I've seen like pictures and it looks like
- 1:18:34Speaker 9: every night it's like something different they do.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, but for a couple going, I think you
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: can expect to pay somewhere around five grand, five to six.
- 1:18:42Speaker 9: Grand, like not like five total.
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: It's like it is so exciting to be a fan
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: of anything right now.
- 1:18:50Speaker 9: Yes, I mean we just came back from Europe, so yeah,
- 1:18:55Speaker 9: very like our flight.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Once this once this podcast, you know, once we're in
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: the tens of millions, you know, then then we can
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: talk about maybe going on a trek cast cruise.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: That's right, that's right. So all right, three of you,
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: just the three of us, we can finally shoot the
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: men of trek Cast calendar.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: For you guys come over to Michigan. I have a
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: fourteen foot aluminum Aluma Craft fishing boat.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: That would be the cruise.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: Yeah, the truck cast crews.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: We could go out.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: You know, Ticonda. Ticonda Roga is on the north end
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: of Lake George. We could we could do a trek
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Cast meet up in Takonda Roga and then the trek
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: the trek Cast cruise is on Lake George.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: But right, okay, okay, I still want to do a
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: I still want to visit New York sometimes.
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: So yeah, oh yeah, it's yeah, never been.
- 1:19:59Speaker 9: Don't take the subways right now, you might so.
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: Okay, all right, Well it sounds like we're winding down,
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: so we should probably wrap it up.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: All right, very good.
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: Yeah, Well we'll catch you well next week. Yeah, yes,
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: we'll see.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: We'll no for next week. Yeah, so.
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: Let the listeners know we may or may not have
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: a show next week.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: I am having a medical procedure. I'm having a surgery
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: and if all goes well, I should be fine, and uh,
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: we'll be having a show. No problem. If things do
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: not go well, I will have to be in the
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: hospital for a couple of days being switched onto a
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: new med which means I really couldn't do a show
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: from the hospital. Uh So I won't know until Saturday
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: my procedures on Friday. I'll find out Saturday how I'm feeling,
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: and then we can go from there.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Can I tell listeners what my what? My Latin technical
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: term for your procedure was, Yes, Okay, he's getting his
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: heart bitch slapped.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: That's right, that's right. Yeah, I'm getting what's called an ablationion.
- 1:21:08Speaker 9: So no episode next week.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: It depends.
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: It depends. Uh everyone that I that I've met a
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: couple of people who have had this surgery, and they
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: all say that it's amazing and you feel so much
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: better right afterwards, like it's like instant. It's like one
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: guy said, it's like a light switch, like it's like
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: he woke up feeling amazing. So hopefully that's what happens.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: They're giving me like a seventy percent chance, so that's
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: what will happened to me. So that's that's good. Odds,
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: that's good. Yeah, yeah, And it's not from everything I've
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: read it's not a dangerous procedure, like it's on par
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: with getting your tonsils removed. So that's surprising.
- 1:21:47Speaker 9: So cool, you can talk.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, but but if the oblation doesn't work, they
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: got to put me on a stronger heart med and
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: so that means being in the hospital for two days
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: because it's that strong of a med, like you need
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: to be observed. So hopefully that's not what happens. If
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: it goes well, I go home that day. It's crazy,
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: So I just go home and sleep off the anesthesia.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: So well, I think I speak for the entire trek
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: Cast community, whether you are you're into thoughts and prayers
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: or good vibes or whatever you're into, we all wish
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: you well.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: So yeah, well, thank you all that. So yeah, so yeah,
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: I keep an eye on the social media. We'll let
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: you know Saturday if we're having your show Sunday.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Okay, so yeah, all right, good luck, all.
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: Right, cool, all right, until then, see you guys later
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: a long life.
- 1:22:41Speaker 10: This is Captain Benjamin Cisco of Deep Space nine and
