- 0:48video about autism and children because I have been a child and
- 0:52I have autism. So I was being.
- 0:53I've been an autistic child and there was so much like about it
- 0:57that I wanted to kind of talk about, but I wanted to kind of
- 0:59home in and stuff like birthday parties, because birthday
- 1:02parties were a huge thing, you know, they were, they were a big
- 1:04deal for me when I was growing up.
- 1:06And I just think that, like, it'd be good for me to share
- 1:09this knowledge with parents and caregivers and everybody else
- 1:12who wants to listen and really just kind of figure out what,
- 1:15what you can do to help, you know, your child or children
- 1:17with an awesome special condition.
- 1:19So before we go any further, guys, if you haven't already
- 1:21fought on Instagram and Twitter, go ahead and follow me right
- 1:24now. It's just at the aspy world and
- 1:26you can get in contact with me anytime you like.
- 1:29I always respond true story. So autism creates lots of issues
- 1:33in children, right from the aspect of socializing to sensory
- 1:36processing disorder. And you know, when I was a kid,
- 1:39I was very reserved and I was quiet and I wasn't able to make
- 1:42new friends. I was barely able to keep the
- 1:44ones I had. And you know, I prefer to stay
- 1:46indoors and play with like electronic stuff, like
- 1:48electronic kits and build things and like, you know, radio, like
- 1:52CB radios and ham radios. I loved all that stuff and I'd
- 1:55stay indoors all the time and do this.
- 1:57But all the other kids were out riding their bikes and playing
- 2:00in the streets and stuff like that.
- 2:01And you know, it just wasn't for me.
- 2:04But when I had birthday parties, it was really difficult.
- 2:07My parents would put me, you know, put on a birthday party
- 2:11for me, invite everyone from my class in school because I guess
- 2:16that's what they did when you were in school.
- 2:17It just invite the entire class, even if you weren't really
- 2:19friends with the classes, with waves in it.
- 2:21So my parents invite all these kids to this place in the.
- 2:27I don't know what it was like by our house.
- 2:28Right. And then there's like a big
- 2:29hole. And then they invite all these
- 2:30kids and they do all this birthday party stuff.
- 2:32But I get so triggered and it would be so overwhelming, all
- 2:34these kids and there's noise and there's foods I didn't even
- 2:37like, you know, I didn't even like cheese sandwiches, like egg
- 2:39sandwiches and everything like that.
- 2:40And that's what they that was on, you know, it was weird.
- 2:43So I kind of, like, took myself away from that and I'd get
- 2:46really upset and kind of stressed out about it.
- 2:48So my parents allowed me to just walk home, which is only like
- 2:50across a small lane, to go back in the house and then go back in
- 2:53the house and rest for a little bit and then come back out, go
- 2:55to the party. And because I knew I had to do
- 2:57it. And The thing is, I wanted to
- 2:59see people, you know, I wanted to see my friends.
- 3:00I wanted to be sociable and I liked having friends, but it was
- 3:03just so overwhelming, like rows and rows and tables of food that
- 3:07I didn't like and textures of food I didn't like.
- 3:09And not to mention like music blasting out of the the stereo
- 3:13was too too much for me. And then they they played games
- 3:16which were just completely sensory triggering and anxiety
- 3:18ridden. Like past the parcel.
- 3:20Where you'd have a parcel, the music would stop and the person
- 3:22would open it. But then the music would start
- 3:24and you'd have to pass it on again until somebody got, you
- 3:27know, a prize, which was crazy. And then the musical chairs
- 3:31where, you know, you have to go and sit on a chair quickly and
- 3:34then you take a chair away. Just horrible, man.
- 3:36I was just saying such anxiety. I was so anxious about this
- 3:39whole thing. I just just didn't really want
- 3:42to do it, you know? And the the whole birthday party
- 3:44thing was just with me. It was so stressful because my
- 3:48parents weren't really switched on to like to to be like, Oh
- 3:53yeah, well, you know, Dan doesn't like this.
- 3:54And like, they were just kind of like, oh, it's just a birthday
- 3:56party for kids or just do all this stuff.
- 3:58You know, they did all the typical typical stuff.
- 4:01If they sat down and asked me like, what do you want your
- 4:02birthday party, how many kids, what kind of music level noise
- 4:05and stuff, it would have been so much better.
- 4:06But instead, it caused an unusual relationship between me
- 4:09and my parents where they just say I was miserable and upset
- 4:11with everything and I was just a miserable child and I would just
- 4:14be triggered the whole time and I want to go back in and play
- 4:17with like ham radios and CBS and stuff.
- 4:19So it was very difficult and it was a it was a stressful time
- 4:23actually. I think it got to a point where
- 4:24where where my parents just were like, yeah, we're not going to
- 4:29do, we're not going to do birthday parties anymore.
- 4:31So they just stopped doing birthday parties for me and
- 4:34didn't consult me on it. So I think that like, and
- 4:36there's nothing wrong with my parents, it went horrible and
- 4:37nasty. Maybe I'm portraying them wrong
- 4:39here, but I just feel like a little bit of understanding
- 4:41would have gone a long way. And This is why I'm making this
- 4:43video. Because if I could talk to you
- 4:47and teach you about how my childhood was, maybe, you know,
- 4:50you and your children can have a more successful upbringing and a
- 4:54better relationship around birthday parties and socializing
- 4:56and all those things. You know, being a kid with an
- 4:58autism special condition. Because it is just listening to
- 5:02the kid and realizing what they need.
- 5:04You know, This is why I did a course and I have a, you know,
- 5:07I've got a course out all about this stuff to teach parents, you
- 5:09know, about kids with autism and stuff like that, which you can
- 5:12get from learnautism.net, which is a website where you can go
- 5:16and sign up for that course. But, you know, it's so it's so
- 5:19frustrating that I didn't or couldn't communicate my parents
- 5:22in a better way when I was a kid.
- 5:23But it is what it is and we must learn from these things and move
- 5:27on. So you know, if you have
- 5:28anything to add to this discussion, I'd love to continue
- 5:31the conversation in the comment section with you.
- 5:32So drop me a comment. I read every single one.
- 5:34And if you think this video is helpful, please share it on
- 5:37Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. And also, guys, if you like this
- 5:40video, give it a thumbs up and I'll see you in the next one
- 5:42guys.
