- 0:07On Sunday, the Brazilian presidential election
- 0:10was settled in favor of incumbent Luiz Inácio
- 0:13Lula da Silva. Da Silva positions himself politically
- 0:16left of center and is in command of South America's
- 0:19largest economy. Now 80 years old, this is suspected
- 0:23to be the veteran's last election. This also
- 0:26marks his fourth non -consecutive presidential
- 0:27term. Santa Cruz Local reports that the area's
- 0:32homeless shelters are preparing for a predicted
- 0:34super El Nino weather pattern that will arrive
- 0:37in the upcoming months. Expecting heavy rain
- 0:40and rising sea levels, new rules are being enacted
- 0:43regarding the opening of the shelters for unhoused
- 0:45residents. In past years, the shelters opened
- 0:48when temperatures dropped below 39 degrees for
- 0:51two consecutive nights. This year, a new threshold
- 0:54that combines cold and wet conditions could mean
- 0:57that the shelters open more frequently. If the
- 1:00overnight temperature is less than 41 degrees
- 1:02and there is at least an 80 % chance of rain
- 1:04for more than one night, the shelters will reopen.
- 1:10According to Oregon Public Broadcasting, residents
- 1:13and businesses within a mile of the Newport Bayfront
- 1:15were asked to evacuate Sunday after a large fire
- 1:18and ammonia leak at one of the Pacific Seafoods
- 1:21plants threatened the commercial and tourist
- 1:23-oriented area along Akina Bay. As many as 40
- 1:27firefighters and a hazardous material response
- 1:29team were on site at the bayfront. No injuries
- 1:33were reported, though it was noted that smoke
- 1:35from the Pacific Seafoods building likely contained
- 1:38ammonia. This has been Pirate Cat Radio News,
