- 0:06This is the Sacramento Brief, your weekday roundup
- 0:09of overnight headlines and what's ahead across
- 0:12the city. I'm Carol. It's Wednesday, July 29,
- 0:172026. Let's get you caught up. A Sacramento County
- 0:20man has been sentenced for what is, for all practical
- 0:23purposes, the rest of his life behind bars. 47
- 0:26-year -old... Troy Taylor has been sentenced
- 0:29to 500 years to life in state prison after being
- 0:33convicted of 10 counts of forcible lewd acts
- 0:35involving three young girls. Prosecutors say
- 0:38the abuse occurred repeatedly between 2020 and
- 0:412023 when the victims were just between ages
- 0:45four and nine years old. Taylor also had a prior
- 0:49child molestation conviction dating back to 2002.
- 0:54One detail in this case has generated a lot of
- 0:57public discussion. Under California's elder parole
- 1:00law, Taylor could become eligible for parole
- 1:03hearing after he turns 65 years old and has served
- 1:06the required portion of his sentence. According
- 1:09to Sacramento County's district attorney's office,
- 1:11that would be in approximately 23 years, 23 and
- 1:16a half years after accounting for his custody
- 1:19credits. It's important to understand that parole
- 1:23eligibility is not the same as parole. An elder
- 1:27parole hearing simply gives the board a parole
- 1:29hearing and opportunity to review whether an
- 1:32inmate remains a danger to public safety. The
- 1:35board can deny parole and require additional
- 1:38hearings in later years. A sentence of 500 years
- 1:42to life remains a life sentence, and there's
- 1:45no guarantee an inmate will ever be released.
- 1:48Additional information on the case and the California
- 1:51elder parole process is available through the
- 1:54Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.
- 1:58And also Sacramento police have announced a second
- 2:01arrest in connection with last weekend stabbing
- 2:04that injured five people in Old Sacramento. The
- 2:07violence happened just after 3 a .m. on Saturday
- 2:09near Front Street and K Street. Officers located
- 2:13three victims at the scene with stab wounds,
- 2:16while two additional victims had already made
- 2:18their way to a local hospital. Police initially
- 2:22detained three people for questioning. 18 -year
- 2:25-old Ezekiel Griffis was arrested over the
- 2:28weekend. Now investigators also have arrested
- 2:31a 19 -year -old Robert Richwine of Rancho Cordova
- 2:35on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
- 2:38Richwine has been booked in Sacramento County
- 2:40Main Jail and his next court appearance is scheduled
- 2:44for November 3rd. The investigation remains ongoing.

- 2:51Log, North Command officers responded to a fight
- 2:55on Shadow Tree Drive early Monday afternoon after
