- 0:24Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:29Speaker 1: origional poast, Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. But news today Patriots
- 0:42Speaker 1: have killed yet another New Jersey Jets quarterback. I'm doing
- 0:46Speaker 1: very well, and Fred kirshbing frank Wich decided to fire
- 0:50Speaker 1: himself by potentially not playing the quarterback that was healthy. No,
- 0:53Speaker 1: we killed the coach too. I'm not going to try
- 0:58Speaker 1: to speak in like Evan's voice, but I'm like nobody can.
- 1:02Speaker 1: They had the vikings as twenty ninth, late and close,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and Paul was Paul that that didn't sit right? Doesn't
- 1:07Speaker 1: Are you sure he filtered it correctly? I filtered it now.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I think I'm right in the fact that we're still
- 1:13Speaker 1: taking calls about Bailey's Abbey is just it's because here's
- 1:16Speaker 1: the thing of just because you and I think one
- 1:19Speaker 1: thing doesn't mean we're right the best at his position,
- 1:21Speaker 1: but it's also easily the biggest douche on the field.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And Travis Kelsey, Kelsey, what time do you have to
- 1:28Speaker 1: be in the bus well? It was supposed to be
- 1:29Speaker 1: twelve thirty. This is how he shows it, like do
- 1:31Speaker 1: you know who I am? They just chill showing gobble gobble, Hey,
- 1:34Speaker 1: Pats fan, this is Patriot's Unfiltered fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:41Speaker 1: welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. And so, after entering the fourth
- 1:46Speaker 1: quarter in a tie, Day walked all over my open intro.
- 1:50Speaker 1: He likes to do his intro. Let us go ahead, pause, No,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I just wanted to say that, miss Friday on a
- 1:57Speaker 1: Tuesday before Thursday game. But go ahead. I apologize a
- 2:03Speaker 1: thousand times. That was very very rude of me. It
- 2:06Speaker 1: broke good to say. No. Now it's come on, I'll
- 2:09Speaker 1: get to it. I'll definitely now he's gonna play. I'm
- 2:13Speaker 1: playing the opposite. I'm throwing myself on the sword. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: was very rude. Now I'm intrigued. You were now about
- 2:19Speaker 1: the late the late thing with Minnesota. It just says
- 2:21Speaker 1: the update, the update of Knocket. They've they've now dropped
- 2:24Speaker 1: a thirty second after entering the fourth quarter in a
- 2:27Speaker 1: tie game and outscoring the Patriots tend nothing, they've now
- 2:29Speaker 1: dropped in the ratings in lat and close. It still
- 2:32Speaker 1: makes no sense. Yeah, how does that work? Anyway? What
- 2:35Speaker 1: are you referring to? Because it's something that Mike had
- 2:38Speaker 1: off of d v O A, right, Yeah, and then
- 2:41Speaker 1: I had texted Paul later, which you know, I mean
- 2:43Speaker 1: it obviously had no bearing on the Patriots game because
- 2:45Speaker 1: they were the better team late and close. Um, but
- 2:47Speaker 1: the chart I couldn't make heads at two. But basically
- 2:50Speaker 1: fine is like they just were terrible until like the
- 2:52Speaker 1: last five minutes of the fourth quarter. And you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: just in terms of port point differential, right, So isn't
- 2:57Speaker 1: that the definition of Laton close be really late? So
- 3:01Speaker 1: you go, they go down. I just thoughtways thought the
- 3:04Speaker 1: idea was to win games. Maybe you're holding the paper
- 3:06Speaker 1: upside acting too. That could be too. I'm not anyway,
- 3:09Speaker 1: like any other stat about Minnesota that you want to nitpick.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I'm all here for because, as you know, I'm I'm
- 3:15Speaker 1: a little more convinced I was wrong about Minnesota. I
- 3:19Speaker 1: have to say, I mean, they played better than I
- 3:21Speaker 1: thought they would. But I still see a ton of
- 3:24Speaker 1: flaws in that team, and I don't think they're that good.
- 3:26Speaker 1: But they're nine and two. So yeah, yeah, so we
- 3:30Speaker 1: still need to tell you know, seem like a long
- 3:31Speaker 1: time ago. Um, but we're going to talk about the
- 3:34Speaker 1: Minnesota game. What what can we learn from that? Is
- 3:37Speaker 1: there any thing hopeful that came out of it? Anything
- 3:40Speaker 1: that got you less hopeful? Uh? And then of course
- 3:43Speaker 1: we'll turn our attention to the Bills because we've got
- 3:47Speaker 1: them coming up on Thursday. And I think that's a
- 3:49Speaker 1: huge game for both teams. Huge yes for both teams
- 3:52Speaker 1: in a rare moment of complete agreement. Yeah with Fred Kerchy. Yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 1: But so going back to Minnesota, and you know, we
- 4:00Speaker 1: do need to talk about it. I was very confident
- 4:03Speaker 1: going into that game. I really thought that the offense
- 4:08Speaker 1: was going to show signs of life. I think they
- 4:10Speaker 1: it did, but I thought the defense would get two
- 4:15Speaker 1: cousins more than it did. And to me, that's the
- 4:18Speaker 1: big thing that I didn't expect is really he was upright.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Except for the late Luche sack, he was upright for
- 4:28Speaker 1: most of the game, and I think they had a
- 4:30Speaker 1: decent game plan coming out Minnesota to keep him clean.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I thought they Kevin O'Connell I thought impressed me. Yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I agree with you. I think I think to you
- 4:38Speaker 1: just i'd give credit to Kirk Cousins. I thought he
- 4:41Speaker 1: was excellent, just with the pressure closing around him. I
- 4:43Speaker 1: agree with your points about the pass rush wasn't good enough,
- 4:45Speaker 1: But I also thought that there were times where they
- 4:48Speaker 1: were getting pressure and he was hanging in there and
- 4:50Speaker 1: delivering some really good balls. Um, you know, with the
- 4:53Speaker 1: pressure closing in on him, pinpoint tough throws. I mean,
- 4:56Speaker 1: how did he define those with Justin Jefferson, You put
- 4:57Speaker 1: it in his zip code and he was coming down
- 4:59Speaker 1: with it that night. But I thought he played well.
- 5:01Speaker 1: But I agree, I think that the pass rush it
- 5:03Speaker 1: was disconcerting. Um, you know they had that they did
- 5:06Speaker 1: have the one interception that was kind of thrown right
- 5:08Speaker 1: to them, But you know, you go back to the
- 5:10Speaker 1: week before McCardy had one interception dropped through right to them,
- 5:13Speaker 1: didn't have any takeaways. You get one takeaway the only
- 5:16Speaker 1: so that's you know, it's it's it's these things that
- 5:18Speaker 1: happened in the last couple of years of the defense
- 5:20Speaker 1: to start to dry up the pass rush, the takeaways
- 5:23Speaker 1: all of a sudden. Um. You know, it wasn't as
- 5:24Speaker 1: bad in this game. They were, they were in it,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and they did get some stops near the end. But
- 5:29Speaker 1: the offense, as everybody is confirmed, yeah great in the middle,
- 5:32Speaker 1: showed some signs of life. As everyone likes to say. Um,
- 5:35Speaker 1: but everybody has had, including Hunter Henry yesterday with the
- 5:37Speaker 1: refrain of it's got to be better late, like we
- 5:40Speaker 1: have to. I mean, they turned back into the offense
- 5:42Speaker 1: that we thought they were in the fourth quarter, and
- 5:44Speaker 1: well they did. Yeah, you know, I want to get
- 5:46Speaker 1: to the offense you know, uh in a second. But
- 5:50Speaker 1: you know, going in again, I thought the defense would
- 5:52Speaker 1: play a little bit better just in terms of getting pressure.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And you wonder, at one point do you say, Okay,
- 5:59Speaker 1: they've got our number when it comes to stopping our
- 6:01Speaker 1: pass rush. They've they've got an answer to that. When
- 6:04Speaker 1: do you like, say okay, let's rush three, drop everyone back,
- 6:08Speaker 1: let's change it up. And they've done that against other
- 6:10Speaker 1: you know, in the past two teams where they've only
- 6:13Speaker 1: rushed two or three and then dropped everyone back and
- 6:16Speaker 1: just tried to confuse the quarterback. They seem to always
- 6:20Speaker 1: be rushing four if not more. They never gave up
- 6:24Speaker 1: on that. Um So, I don't know how much adjustment
- 6:28Speaker 1: was actually made. It didn't seem like a lot to me.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But that was the that was the thing. And but overall,
- 6:34Speaker 1: you know, a lot of people said, oh see, Patriots
- 6:36Speaker 1: defense got exposed. They finally, you know, played a competent
- 6:40Speaker 1: quarterback and a team with weapons, and they got exposed.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And yes, they had a lot more problems against this
- 6:48Speaker 1: team than they did against the Jets and and other
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know, and uh, you know, other you know, sam
- 6:54Speaker 1: ellingers of the world. And they did, there's no doubt
- 6:57Speaker 1: about it. But at the end of the day, they
- 6:59Speaker 1: gave up twenty six points, and you can make the
- 7:02Speaker 1: case that they had some stops, and you know, if
- 7:05Speaker 1: you take away the dumb mistakes, it could have been
- 7:08Speaker 1: nineteen points. You know, Like they didn't play terribly. They
- 7:12Speaker 1: didn't play terribly. I didn't you know what, I'm just
- 7:17Speaker 1: handing away first downs, three personal foul penalties. Yeah, I
- 7:22Speaker 1: mean that's terribly that's terrible play. And I start with
- 7:25Speaker 1: the coaching. If we're gonna we want to start with defense.
- 7:28Speaker 1: We want to start with the bad instead of the good.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I start with coaching. I think, um a couple of
- 7:35Speaker 1: weeks ago during the Patriots by Week, the Vikings played
- 7:38Speaker 1: at Buffalo and Justin Jefferson had nine catches for one
- 7:42Speaker 1: hundred and ninety yards and a touchdown. And if I
- 7:46Speaker 1: heard it once, I heard it four thousand times Sean
- 7:50Speaker 1: vic Turmos allowing Justin Jefferson to beat them. Patriots would
- 7:56Speaker 1: never do that. Patriots would never do that. Patriots would
- 7:59Speaker 1: never do that. And they came out and they say
- 8:02Speaker 1: that that was the narrative, when like, where, what's your
- 8:06Speaker 1: source here? Who's saying this? Do I have to like
- 8:10Speaker 1: expose one guy in particular because he's a member of
- 8:12Speaker 1: the show, Evan Lazarre. Okay, he said Patriots won't let
- 8:17Speaker 1: that happen, and it was all over the radio, all
- 8:19Speaker 1: over all the analysts, all over Twitter. Patriots don't let
- 8:23Speaker 1: that happen. And then he goes out and he says,
- 8:26Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones, you take him. That's not a good plan.
- 8:31Speaker 1: That's not a good plan. It looked to me like
- 8:34Speaker 1: they were more concerned with Dalvin Cook, which is completely
- 8:38Speaker 1: and utterly irrelevant in the grand scheme of a game.
- 8:42Speaker 1: If you want to prevent the other team from scoring
- 8:44Speaker 1: points well, and then it goes counter to the strategy
- 8:47Speaker 1: that they've had in the past, where you know, if
- 8:50Speaker 1: they want to run the ball, you know, to a
- 8:52Speaker 1: certain degree, let's let him do it. Move down the field, Ben,
- 8:55Speaker 1: but don't break, but don't give up the big play
- 8:57Speaker 1: and don't misunderstand. That's the opposite of kind of what happened,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and don't miss understand. I'm not making fun of the
- 9:03Speaker 1: people who thought I was one of those people. I
- 9:09Speaker 1: said to myself, how can Buffalo continue to let this
- 9:13Speaker 1: guy make these catches? That's all they're doing. It's throwing
- 9:15Speaker 1: the ball to Justin Jefferson. I was saying the same thing.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm not calling out the people that said the Patriots
- 9:21Speaker 1: wouldn't do that, because I've grown accustomed to watching the
- 9:24Speaker 1: Patriots play and seeing that they don't let that happen.
- 9:27Speaker 1: They make you do it another way. They make you
- 9:30Speaker 1: play quote left handed right. And they started that game
- 9:34Speaker 1: just having Jonathan Jones cover him. They eventually moved to
- 9:37Speaker 1: some different coverages, some zones, some doubles. It did. None
- 9:40Speaker 1: of it worked because the other guy was better than you,
- 9:43Speaker 1: a guy that should have been the focal point of
- 9:45Speaker 1: your defense. To me, Wow, Like, I don't understand how
- 9:48Speaker 1: you go into that game and not say we have
- 9:50Speaker 1: to do something about him. Well, he's the problem. I'm
- 9:53Speaker 1: encouraged that you believe there was something that could be done.
- 9:57Speaker 1: So it wasn't a total it wasn't a total disaster
- 10:00Speaker 1: on defense. I I I, you know, they got beat
- 10:03Speaker 1: by a better team, but I think that it wasn't
- 10:07Speaker 1: a complete disaster, and I think that there's hope there
- 10:11Speaker 1: for the defense against better offenses. Uh. So you know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: that's what I want to say about the defense. You know,
- 10:17Speaker 1: Disappointed they didn't get more pressure on Cousins, Disappointed they
- 10:21Speaker 1: didn't adjust when they saw that the Vikings had a
- 10:24Speaker 1: good answer to that, because you know, remember after the game,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I forget which player it was, but you know they said,
- 10:32Speaker 1: you know, Matt Judon, you know, the league leader in sacks.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So when they say that after the game, you know
- 10:38Speaker 1: that that was a point of emphasis before the game
- 10:40Speaker 1: to not let him beat us, for sure, you know,
- 10:43Speaker 1: And I I just you know, early on they were
- 10:46Speaker 1: playing the edges really well. Cousins was getting the ball
- 10:49Speaker 1: out and neutralizing the pass rush. And then later in
- 10:52Speaker 1: the game. You know, I saw Jude On trying to
- 10:55Speaker 1: do his little games where he you know, come on,
- 10:57Speaker 1: they were ready for the he would he would just
- 11:00Speaker 1: run into traffic for him to go. I thought they
- 11:03Speaker 1: were prepared. They were prepared, you know, and so, but
- 11:07Speaker 1: there wasn't a lot of adjustment. Like I said, on
- 11:10Speaker 1: the Patriots defensive. Once you realize, okay, we're not gonna
- 11:13Speaker 1: bully these guys, you know, we're gonna have to change
- 11:16Speaker 1: it up a little bit. Tamara and uh, Evan. So
- 11:20Speaker 1: I want to before we continue, I just want to
- 11:22Speaker 1: say what I just said to Evan in about justin Jefferson.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Do you remember after the Buffalo game. Yeah, we all
- 11:29Speaker 1: kind of snickered, myself included, I throw myself in this. Sure,
- 11:32Speaker 1: Patriots will never let that happen. They're never gonna let
- 11:34Speaker 1: one guy beat them like that, right, Yeah, and you did.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I sort of assigned that to you. So I want
- 11:40Speaker 1: to make sure I'm being fair about it. I would
- 11:43Speaker 1: say I definitely felt that way. I think Jefferson beat
- 11:46Speaker 1: them against Buffalo. Against Buffalo, they it was nine catches.
- 11:51Speaker 1: It was nine catches for one hundred and ninty yards. Yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 1: And I said, there's no way the Patriots will let
- 11:54Speaker 1: that happen. They did. They didn't, though, Oh they did.
- 11:57Speaker 1: They don't win that game without Justin Jeffs Well, yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 1: one thirty six and a touchdown. Like, I just don't
- 12:02Speaker 1: understand how you can go into that game a touchdown. Okay,
- 12:07Speaker 1: all right, I was wrong, and I guess you're not wrong.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I just I mean, they had one. They had one
- 12:12Speaker 1: thing on offense, It was Justin Jefferson. I just Stalen
- 12:18Speaker 1: had a lot of catches. They're tight end. They were
- 12:20Speaker 1: far more considered with Alvin Cook than anything else. I
- 12:23Speaker 1: don't understand. I just don't understand why you would try
- 12:26Speaker 1: to stop a running back over a passing game. It
- 12:28Speaker 1: doesn't make I agree. I tried to single cover one
- 12:30Speaker 1: of the best receivers in football, failed to say it
- 12:33Speaker 1: was and then they changed and couldn't do anything about
- 12:35Speaker 1: to say it was just Jefferson. That's it was just Jefferson,
- 12:37Speaker 1: that's all it was. Okay, all right, I mean we
- 12:41Speaker 1: could pretty it up and pretend that that didn't happen
- 12:44Speaker 1: to us, but it did, at least against Buffalo. We
- 12:46Speaker 1: had to make insanely ridiculous catches. He didn't make any
- 12:50Speaker 1: of those in this game. They were all in. Think
- 12:52Speaker 1: the one between John Jones and Devin mccorreon catch half
- 12:55Speaker 1: so could catch that landing in his hands like it
- 12:58Speaker 1: gets Buffalo always like going up, you know, with one
- 13:01Speaker 1: hand on fourth and forever and coming down with a
- 13:04Speaker 1: one handed catch in traffic. Like he didn't make any
- 13:06Speaker 1: catches like that. It was was pitching catch for most
- 13:10Speaker 1: of the night. I thought that they did way way
- 13:12Speaker 1: more to try to take him out of the game
- 13:14Speaker 1: than Buffalo you could even imagine, honestly, compared to how
- 13:18Speaker 1: the Bills planned it. But then I lose all the
- 13:23Speaker 1: faith if you think that they tried more things to
- 13:25Speaker 1: take him out and just just couldn't do it. No,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I'm saying that. If that, I mean, if he's right,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I mean they had a few bracket calls in there.
- 13:32Speaker 1: They were trying to jam him at the line of
- 13:34Speaker 1: scrimmage when he was inside. I thought that they'd tried
- 13:36Speaker 1: to take him out. But I honestly, I if all
- 13:40Speaker 1: you gave up was nine for one thirty five and
- 13:42Speaker 1: a touchdown to Justin Jefferson, then you win the game
- 13:44Speaker 1: like that. It wasn't like he went for two hundred
- 13:46Speaker 1: yards against them well, and also in the second half,
- 13:49Speaker 1: didn't his production go way down, but had the one
- 13:52Speaker 1: big catch in the second half of one set up
- 13:54Speaker 1: the game winning touched him, but he had one catch.
- 13:57Speaker 1: But and I think my Minnesota and Couzin spread it
- 14:00Speaker 1: out to other people. Yeah, I saw other people making plays.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing that hurt them and that game,
- 14:06Speaker 1: honestly was overreacting to Justin Jefferson. I mean, on the
- 14:09Speaker 1: game when he's got three guys on him and nobody's
- 14:14Speaker 1: over on the other side to help Jalen Mills and
- 14:16Speaker 1: Jalen Mills after the play is kind of looking around
- 14:19Speaker 1: like guys, like the whole defense ran with Justin Jeffers.
- 14:26Speaker 1: All I'm saying is is that I come away from
- 14:28Speaker 1: that game worried that if you're gonna go up against
- 14:32Speaker 1: the guy, to Paul's point, if you're gonna go up
- 14:33Speaker 1: against the guy like Justin Jefferson and you have to
- 14:36Speaker 1: double cover him because you don't have a guy like
- 14:39Speaker 1: a prime Gilmore reevs In twenty fourteen or somebody that
- 14:43Speaker 1: can just go toe to toe with him one on one,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and the only way that you can slow him down
- 14:48Speaker 1: is if you double him, then good offensive coordinators or
- 14:52Speaker 1: good play callers like Kevin O'Connell are going to make
- 14:55Speaker 1: you pay in other areas of the field. And I
- 14:57Speaker 1: thought that's exactly what ended up burning them more and anything,
- 15:00Speaker 1: was the fact that Delon made that play at the
- 15:02Speaker 1: end of the game against single coverage like that, That's
- 15:05Speaker 1: what's gonna happen with this team coming in on Thursday night,
- 15:07Speaker 1: is if you pay that much attention to Stefon Diggs,
- 15:10Speaker 1: he'll beat your throwing to Gabe Davis and Isaiah mckenzilla
- 15:13Speaker 1: like he has no problem doing that. So I think
- 15:15Speaker 1: this overreaction of you gotta take away the number one
- 15:18Speaker 1: guy and then having all these eyes on one player
- 15:21Speaker 1: on the field when these passing attacks can spread the
- 15:23Speaker 1: ball around. I thought, that's really I think. I think
- 15:28Speaker 1: I think their plan would have worked had they gotten
- 15:31Speaker 1: some type of pass rush. Yeah, it's a complimentary game,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and they didn't have the pass rush to compliment whatever
- 15:39Speaker 1: the guys in the backfield were doing. Fred That was
- 15:41Speaker 1: my biggest takeaway I think from the game was that
- 15:44Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins was so comfortable, so comfortable, like he never
- 15:48Speaker 1: had a warrior's stress, like I feel like where other
- 15:50Speaker 1: quarterbacks have to scramble or they have to get rid
- 15:53Speaker 1: of the ball quickly or throw it away like he
- 15:55Speaker 1: do whatever you wanted to do. And I really thought,
- 15:57Speaker 1: like I said going in that that's why I felt
- 16:00Speaker 1: confident going into this game, is that they were gonna
- 16:02Speaker 1: give Cousins trouble and they didn't. They didn't. Yeah, I
- 16:06Speaker 1: honestly I thought that because number one receiver was wide
- 16:09Speaker 1: open nine times. I honestly thought that they played the defensively.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I mean I came in here after the Jets game
- 16:17Speaker 1: and I said, they'll give up forty points against Buffalo
- 16:19Speaker 1: if they played defense like that. They came up twenty
- 16:21Speaker 1: six against Minnesota, who's a worst team than Buffalo, Right,
- 16:24Speaker 1: And it was the same thing against the Jets. There
- 16:27Speaker 1: were open guys on the film. Against the Jets, the
- 16:29Speaker 1: quarterback stunk, right, The quarterback was awful. And Kirk Cousins
- 16:34Speaker 1: in the game on Thursday night, and look, I think
- 16:37Speaker 1: Mike White had played in the Patriots scored ten points.
- 16:39Speaker 1: They probably would have lost that game. I think some
- 16:41Speaker 1: of the pressure stats that you see, I like kind
- 16:44Speaker 1: of do a double taking them, Like really like you
- 16:46Speaker 1: think he was under pressure on thirty nine percent of
- 16:48Speaker 1: the dropbacks. But with that being said, they had Kirk
- 16:51Speaker 1: Cousins under pressure on thirty nine percent of his dropbacks,
- 16:53Speaker 1: but he was thirteen for fourteen under pressure in the game.
- 16:57Speaker 1: He he carved them up under pressure because there's guys
- 17:00Speaker 1: open down the field. So if you hurry the quarterback
- 17:03Speaker 1: in the pocket. These good quarterbacks and I don't know
- 17:05Speaker 1: if Cousins is great, but he's good. And these good
- 17:08Speaker 1: quarterbacks even under pressure, if yours open guys to throw too,
- 17:12Speaker 1: is still going to hit the open guys down the field.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I mean the touchdown or they play before the theeling touchdown.
- 17:17Speaker 1: The big one of Jefferson, Judean's right in front of
- 17:20Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins. He lights him up in the pocket and
- 17:23Speaker 1: he just throws it up for Justin. Jefferson and his
- 17:26Speaker 1: guy made a play, and the Patriots two guys didn't
- 17:28Speaker 1: make a play. So I think in some respects I
- 17:31Speaker 1: saw this coming because the Jets had open guys like
- 17:35Speaker 1: guys were opened in that game. There's a reason why
- 17:37Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson went off after the game in the locker
- 17:40Speaker 1: room after they lost to the Patriots and said we're
- 17:42Speaker 1: better than that because he was open and the quarterback
- 17:45Speaker 1: was just missing him. Now that they're playing quarterbacks like
- 17:48Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins or Josh Allen even more so this week,
- 17:51Speaker 1: he's not gonna miss him. Yeah, see what they do.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So let's turn to the offense, because I think they
- 17:58Speaker 1: did do some good things. I think, you know, but
- 18:01Speaker 1: they faded down the stretch, There's no doubt about it.
- 18:04Speaker 1: You know, when it counted most Mac didn't rise up.
- 18:08Speaker 1: The rest of the offense didn't rise up. But I
- 18:10Speaker 1: take some hope that the offensive line didn't poop themselves.
- 18:14Speaker 1: They played fairly well. Stevenson is Stevenson's he's great. Do
- 18:20Speaker 1: you think he can do that by himself Thursday night?
- 18:23Speaker 1: Oh of course not, you know, but he's you've got him.
- 18:26Speaker 1: You know, he's good. And you know, I think Hunter
- 18:29Speaker 1: Henry is getting more and more involved in the offense
- 18:32Speaker 1: as of late. You know, I think there's some hope
- 18:35Speaker 1: for the offense. I really do. But they just got
- 18:37Speaker 1: to put together sixty minutes and they've got to just
- 18:40Speaker 1: eliminate these stupid, dumb mental mistakes. I they didn't really
- 18:45Speaker 1: have a lot of those, honestly, I mean it was
- 18:47Speaker 1: the defense with two face masks, penalties and unsports milan conduct.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I don't know. Offense this time wasn't jumping offside Jones
- 18:55Speaker 1: getting sacked seventy, but I count like not going out
- 18:58Speaker 1: of bounds for Hunter Henry. I count Mac Jones not
- 19:01Speaker 1: throwing the ball away. Yeah, dumb mentally, definitely questionable. But
- 19:06Speaker 1: I mean I take all the all the optimism that
- 19:10Speaker 1: you talk about offensively, I'm I'm I'm on board with you.
- 19:12Speaker 1: That's that's as good as they've looked offensively all year. Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: it was a low bar though, I mean definitely definitely.
- 19:18Speaker 1: As we've gotten away from this game, I think coming
- 19:21Speaker 1: out of it, I felt more encouraged than I do
- 19:23Speaker 1: now because just you haven't seen it yet. You haven't
- 19:25Speaker 1: seen all the training camp practices. You never saw that much.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And I say use the word consistent loosely, um, but
- 19:31Speaker 1: you know that much consistency. But then you look at
- 19:34Speaker 1: it and you're like, Minnesota's pretty bad. I mean, this
- 19:37Speaker 1: is a bad defense that they face compared to what
- 19:39Speaker 1: they've been facing, and when it really counted, they couldn't
- 19:41Speaker 1: do it. So how much I mean, I want to
- 19:43Speaker 1: take the silver lining and feel like, oh, there's something
- 19:45Speaker 1: coming here, but at the same time, it's it's basically December.
- 19:49Speaker 1: We just saw them what put together two scoring drives,
- 19:52Speaker 1: like great, we'll see this week how it looks. But
- 19:55Speaker 1: I mean I get it, there's there's something there, a
- 19:57Speaker 1: little bit maybe that they can build off of. But
- 19:59Speaker 1: I just I felt less. So you think it's a
- 20:01Speaker 1: little about like almost the opposite of what we talk
- 20:05Speaker 1: about defensively, Like with ev just talked about with well,
- 20:09Speaker 1: sure you were great defensively because you were facing Zach
- 20:12Speaker 1: Wilson and Sam ellen Grow and they couldn't get the
- 20:14Speaker 1: ball to opportunities where guys were open. You think it's
- 20:18Speaker 1: the opposite when you're playing against a defense that's really tough,
- 20:23Speaker 1: like the Jets or the Colts. You couldn't do anything,
- 20:26Speaker 1: and their success was really only predicated on well, loosens
- 20:30Speaker 1: up a little bit. You're playing his own defense. They were,
- 20:33Speaker 1: They were bad defensively for the first half, but really
- 20:36Speaker 1: the first three quarters, I never saw so many guys
- 20:39Speaker 1: running free over the middle. And I don't want to,
- 20:41Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to kill him. I mean
- 20:42Speaker 1: that's you know, to this point, we hadn't seen them
- 20:44Speaker 1: do that in seven on seven compared to and I
- 20:46Speaker 1: did think the pass protection, as Fred said, um, I
- 20:50Speaker 1: thought it was better. I thought I thought he looked
- 20:52Speaker 1: more comfortable right from the first series of the game.
- 20:54Speaker 1: So I'm gonna make a bold prediction. But this is
- 20:57Speaker 1: an offseason prediction. Bold and the prediction is that Belichick
- 21:02Speaker 1: will make changes to the offensive coaching staff. And the
- 21:07Speaker 1: reason I say this is, Uh, there was just this
- 21:11Speaker 1: week they were talking about I think it was Alan
- 21:13Speaker 1: Siegel brought up penalties. Penalties. You know, it's unlike this team,
- 21:18Speaker 1: blah blah blah, you know very you know, we're up
- 21:21Speaker 1: down low when it comes to penalties, and Bill, in
- 21:25Speaker 1: a rare moment of whatever, said, wellsive not not not
- 21:30Speaker 1: defensive penalties. So in that, in my mind, he's like, Okay,
- 21:36Speaker 1: he's got his he's got a bulls eye for the
- 21:38Speaker 1: offense right now, he's got a bulls eye for the offense.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Only five first downs given defensively, you know, but whatever,
- 21:45Speaker 1: for whatever reason, you're gonna see changes made to the
- 21:49Speaker 1: offensive coaching staff. Yeah, that struck me. I mean, I
- 21:52Speaker 1: just you talk about Zach Wilson kind of going away
- 21:54Speaker 1: from the script, Like why it's just you gotta clean
- 21:57Speaker 1: everything up. It's just got to be better, Like why
- 21:59Speaker 1: why why didn't we not get that right exactly? So
- 22:03Speaker 1: it's but I was going to say, oh, no, no,
- 22:06Speaker 1: I'm not no, I'm not gonna say it. Yeah, you
- 22:08Speaker 1: know what I'm thinking. I'm not saying that. You try
- 22:11Speaker 1: to preach to your players. You never want to be
- 22:13Speaker 1: us first them when it comes to offense defense. You
- 22:16Speaker 1: never want that you want, you know, but it happens,
- 22:19Speaker 1: you know, it happens when one side of the ball
- 22:21Speaker 1: isn't holding up their end, when when the top when
- 22:26Speaker 1: the head coach is thinking. And I'm not saying it's like,
- 22:29Speaker 1: oh I hate my defense or I hate my offense
- 22:31Speaker 1: or anything like that, but when he says something like that,
- 22:34Speaker 1: that means it's on his mind. That means he's been
- 22:38Speaker 1: looking at it. I think it's on his mind. I
- 22:39Speaker 1: just think it's a different reason than you're doing it. Yeah, anything,
- 22:42Speaker 1: he got out of it on a technicality, but I
- 22:45Speaker 1: mean I think, look, it's it's been an issue. I mean,
- 22:47Speaker 1: we just you know, we just ran down another another
- 22:49Speaker 1: game where you can list off a handful of unnecessary
- 22:53Speaker 1: mental mistakes within the context of the game that you know,
- 22:56Speaker 1: usually the stuff that that they don't do, and I
- 22:58Speaker 1: hate holding that up is like they always played probably,
- 23:02Speaker 1: but it's just been consistent for what are we at
- 23:05Speaker 1: twelve games now that they play I mean, you know,
- 23:07Speaker 1: it's it's it was consistent last year. I just I
- 23:10Speaker 1: kind of pushed back on the notion that they never
- 23:13Speaker 1: did this right, okay, because I think the part that
- 23:16Speaker 1: gets me frustrated about the conversation about this team right
- 23:19Speaker 1: now is that everything needs to be perfect operationally for
- 23:25Speaker 1: them to win a football game, right, totally agree, And
- 23:28Speaker 1: some point in time, the quarterback has to put the
- 23:31Speaker 1: team on his back and win the game for you
- 23:34Speaker 1: against a good teams at some point in time if
- 23:37Speaker 1: they're gonna get to where everybody wants them to get
- 23:39Speaker 1: to go. When Pierre Strong runs into the punter and
- 23:42Speaker 1: the defense gives up a touchdown because their gas because
- 23:44Speaker 1: they thought they were off the field, the quarterback has
- 23:47Speaker 1: to come back and lead a touchdown drive and match
- 23:49Speaker 1: it right and go toe to toe, which somebody, I mean,
- 23:51Speaker 1: I hate to say it, but that's what Tom Brady
- 23:53Speaker 1: would have done, right right. That's my That's my point,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and Paul, you would remember better than me, because my
- 23:59Speaker 1: memory is terror when it comes to these kinds of things.
- 24:01Speaker 1: But there there were definitely games that come to my
- 24:04Speaker 1: mind where it didn't go well for three and a
- 24:08Speaker 1: half quarters and Brady would pull it out of his
- 24:10Speaker 1: butt or stupid stuff like running into the punter would happen,
- 24:13Speaker 1: and you know, like you overcome it, like I made that,
- 24:16Speaker 1: I made the comment, Yeah, it would have been if
- 24:18Speaker 1: you went after the punt against the Jets or the
- 24:20Speaker 1: Colts in the previous games, they just would have stopped
- 24:22Speaker 1: the next three players and made him punt again. Right.
- 24:24Speaker 1: You know, with this team, it's you know, Kirk Kirk
- 24:27Speaker 1: Cousins is not great, but he is good, and he's
- 24:29Speaker 1: a lot better than what they faced in the last month.
- 24:32Speaker 1: You can't give them along those lines. Like I wish
- 24:35Speaker 1: I could say the Hunter Henry penalty, you know, not penalty,
- 24:39Speaker 1: not catch call was the reason they lost. It wasn't.
- 24:43Speaker 1: It wasn't even reason. It was part of the mentally
- 24:46Speaker 1: it felt like it felt, but it was another one
- 24:49Speaker 1: would have right, they would have overcome that was that
- 24:53Speaker 1: after the Hunter Henry non touchdown call, the offense fell
- 24:57Speaker 1: off the rails. Yeah, it's yeah. And then after years
- 25:00Speaker 1: strong runs into the punter, the defense fell off the rails.
- 25:03Speaker 1: So at some point it took yeah, yeah, it took
- 25:06Speaker 1: three plays. And then offensively, I would love to come
- 25:10Speaker 1: back here and say, hah see, I was right, Like
- 25:13Speaker 1: Matt Jones threw for three hundred and eighty yards in
- 25:15Speaker 1: a game against on the road against the playoff opponent,
- 25:19Speaker 1: you know, because he was protected well, because they had
- 25:21Speaker 1: a good plan. But the problem that I keep on
- 25:24Speaker 1: coming back to is one of the drives Jonathan Jones
- 25:28Speaker 1: returns it to the seventeen yard line and you go
- 25:30Speaker 1: backwards and you kick a field goal. We call those
- 25:32Speaker 1: pick threes. Yeah, pick threes. That's a trademark for hardy. Okay.
- 25:36Speaker 1: And then in the two minute drill, you had a
- 25:38Speaker 1: golden opportunity to score a touchdown before the half and
- 25:41Speaker 1: set up the double score, right I believe, right, Yeah,
- 25:43Speaker 1: they double score, and that Hunter Henry doesn't get out
- 25:47Speaker 1: of bounds. Then mac Jones takes a sack in the
- 25:49Speaker 1: middle of the field for absolutely no reason, and then
- 25:52Speaker 1: they throw a goal line fade to Kendrick Bourne. When
- 25:55Speaker 1: you have DeVante Parker play, I think I could have
- 26:00Speaker 1: tried trying to target that. I would try another play
- 26:03Speaker 1: and I would have run the same play to Parker
- 26:06Speaker 1: and an end zone fade. It's not going to take
- 26:09Speaker 1: six seconds. And the worst part is that if it
- 26:12Speaker 1: wasn't also rushed, Jacoby runs a slant on the goal
- 26:16Speaker 1: line on that play that they threw the fade to
- 26:17Speaker 1: Bourne and he's he dusts the corner and he's wide open.
- 26:21Speaker 1: So like it was a predetermined read because there's only
- 26:24Speaker 1: six seconds left in the half or whatever it was,
- 26:26Speaker 1: and he just has to get the ball out. I
- 26:28Speaker 1: think the early injury to Jacoby hurt them a little bit.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I don't think he was right after that, I agree, Yeah,
- 26:34Speaker 1: And I think there was a play that they ran
- 26:36Speaker 1: to him on one of the third downs on one
- 26:39Speaker 1: of the three and outs in the fourth quarter. Yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 1: that I think. I mean, it was a tough, tough play,
- 26:43Speaker 1: but I think one hundred percent Jacoby Myers might have
- 26:46Speaker 1: come down with that the contested grab. Yeah, it looked
- 26:49Speaker 1: like he didn't have full range emotion with that shot, right. Yeah,
- 26:51Speaker 1: And we were apologist, but Jacoby Myers, that's that is true,
- 26:54Speaker 1: guilty as charge, But I think he might have had
- 26:56Speaker 1: that They had after in the fourth quarter, they ran
- 27:00Speaker 1: thirteen plays for fifty eight yards, and forty of them
- 27:03Speaker 1: came on the screen to Rumandre Stevens, I'm glad you
- 27:05Speaker 1: brought that. So they were. So they had twelve plays
- 27:08Speaker 1: for eighteen yards on the other twelve plays in the
- 27:10Speaker 1: fourth PLA believe he had eighty yards on his last
- 27:13Speaker 1: three completion, which basically amounted to nothing. Yeah, it was
- 27:16Speaker 1: the forty yards screen that you're talking about. That three
- 27:18Speaker 1: play three, you know, four plays later they were off
- 27:20Speaker 1: the field and then two meaningless completely and I took
- 27:23Speaker 1: I took out the last drive because it was meaningless, right,
- 27:26Speaker 1: and then you get into you know, third down, third
- 27:28Speaker 1: and nine, and God only knows what Trent's doing. Right,
- 27:32Speaker 1: he throws a cut block for absolutely no reason, but
- 27:34Speaker 1: still there's an open receiver, DeVante Parker is opened past
- 27:38Speaker 1: the sticks, and although Trent shouldn't have thrown a cut block,
- 27:42Speaker 1: there is a second there to get that ball, could
- 27:43Speaker 1: have gotten the ball off. I know a lot of
- 27:45Speaker 1: people have written that he's got to throw the ball.
- 27:47Speaker 1: He's got to throw the ball. And that was the
- 27:49Speaker 1: one time the entire game where he got happy feet.
- 27:51Speaker 1: He totally got happy feet he got, he sawed what
- 27:54Speaker 1: he saw what happened, right, and he freaked, yeah, and
- 27:56Speaker 1: it was like, what the heck is Trent doing? And
- 27:59Speaker 1: then he turned That was a cute because now he'd
- 28:01Speaker 1: make it a fourth and sixteen and I'm let's face it,
- 28:06Speaker 1: without a penalty, you're probably not converting that. And I
- 28:09Speaker 1: think he gave a good effort. I thought that was
- 28:12Speaker 1: a good ballie through gave agil Or a chance to
- 28:14Speaker 1: run it down. But that's a very low probability play.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I also, I wouldn't I think that they thought the
- 28:24Speaker 1: defense was gassed at that point, and that's why they
- 28:26Speaker 1: would have went forward on fourth down. I wouldn't have
- 28:29Speaker 1: hated a punting it there either. We were talking about it.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Because we talked about it, they couldn't run the ball
- 28:35Speaker 1: on you. Yeah, And what they ended up doing is
- 28:39Speaker 1: they changed the play calling because that we didn't go
- 28:43Speaker 1: We didn't go over this in the postgame show. We
- 28:44Speaker 1: dropped the ball. M Evans I think has a really
- 28:47Speaker 1: good point here. They'd allowed them to just mindlessly hand
- 28:52Speaker 1: the ball off three times to Dalvin Cook, knowing that
- 28:55Speaker 1: we're gonna get stopped and we're just gonna punt it,
- 28:58Speaker 1: and we're gonna make them go eighty five yards. They're
- 29:00Speaker 1: not doing that. There's no way they're going eighty five
- 29:02Speaker 1: yards with no timeouts in a minute. But if you're
- 29:05Speaker 1: on your own fifteen, Yeah, and you know, God forbids sixty,
- 29:10Speaker 1: maybe on your own five. If your punter actually can
- 29:12Speaker 1: punt the ball for a change, which they haven't been
- 29:14Speaker 1: able to do all the year. Now they might have
- 29:18Speaker 1: to throw because they might say, we have to get
- 29:20Speaker 1: a first down. We can't just give them the ball
- 29:22Speaker 1: on their forty right and expect them to not score
- 29:25Speaker 1: like that changes the whole complexion. I think they completely
- 29:28Speaker 1: took the pass out of the equation by giving them
- 29:31Speaker 1: the ball where they gave him the ball. Yeah, And
- 29:32Speaker 1: I think Kevin O'Connell did the right thing. Normally, I'm
- 29:35Speaker 1: a you gotta throw the ball to get that first down, guy.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Not in that situation, they weren't moving the ball. They
- 29:40Speaker 1: weren't going to eighty five yards, So just run the ball,
- 29:44Speaker 1: run the clock, make them take their timeouts, and played prevent. Yeah.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I would love to gloat about mac Jones. He throws
- 29:51Speaker 1: a very career high and passing yards in the game
- 29:53Speaker 1: and everything looked a lot better. I think they have
- 29:56Speaker 1: found an explosive play element to this offense over the
- 29:59Speaker 1: last couple of weeks from the buy Even against the Jets,
- 30:01Speaker 1: they made some big plays, so I think that they've
- 30:03Speaker 1: found that a little bit. I thought he saw the
- 30:05Speaker 1: field significantly better than he has all year in this
- 30:08Speaker 1: game against Minnesota. But it's still not good enough. Over
- 30:11Speaker 1: three in the red zone, three for ten on third down,
- 30:13Speaker 1: poor situationally before the half, horrible in the fourth quarter. Like,
- 30:17Speaker 1: it's still not good enough. And I think everybody always
- 30:20Speaker 1: throws the defense under the bus, like you guys like that.
- 30:23Speaker 1: That's why we lost. We lost because Pierre Strong ran
- 30:25Speaker 1: into the punter. We lost because the defense gave up
- 30:27Speaker 1: twenty six points. Like, twenty six points, you can't win
- 30:31Speaker 1: the game. The fact that they're all ten with twenty
- 30:34Speaker 1: five or more. Yeah, like you gotta be able to win, Yeah, right,
- 30:38Speaker 1: I agree with I think the offense has to be
- 30:40Speaker 1: able to score. I think the untimely penalties definitely were
- 30:43Speaker 1: like a huge factor in their loss, and it did,
- 30:46Speaker 1: you know, change the momentum of the game, including Hunter
- 30:48Speaker 1: Henry's non catch situation. But I still think the offense.
- 30:52Speaker 1: When they got the ball with four minutes left, I
- 30:54Speaker 1: was like, this game's over. There not scoring, like I
- 30:56Speaker 1: started writing, it was over, They're just They're just not
- 30:58Speaker 1: and it's like, I hate to be the next I
- 31:00Speaker 1: hate to be a negative Nancy. And I said that
- 31:02Speaker 1: out and Paul was like, they still have time and
- 31:04Speaker 1: I'm like, no, I just I just have no. He
- 31:09Speaker 1: was like, Paul's like, you're making me mad. I'm like,
- 31:11Speaker 1: I did you did? He said, well, I don't think
- 31:16Speaker 1: he is playing well, Maddy. He's like, he's playing well, yes,
- 31:22Speaker 1: but he can't finish this. I can't. He has one
- 31:25Speaker 1: game winning drive in two years. He has one game
- 31:28Speaker 1: winning drive and needed a highly questionable roughings and one
- 31:32Speaker 1: fourth quarter comeback, both in the same game, both against
- 31:35Speaker 1: Houston last year. And that's it. Every single time they
- 31:37Speaker 1: have to come back, every single time they have to
- 31:39Speaker 1: score more than thirty points to win a game, they lose,
- 31:42Speaker 1: and then we everybody comes in the next day and
- 31:45Speaker 1: blames the defense. I love your point about that punt though.
- 31:47Speaker 1: On that fourth and sixteen, I thought it was an
- 31:49Speaker 1: interesting contrast watching Trevor Lawrence down the stretch because this
- 31:53Speaker 1: was kind of that game for him a little bit him.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I was happy to see him coming out, but leading
- 31:59Speaker 1: up to that, in that game, he yea. One of
- 32:01Speaker 1: the reasons they had such a hard time was because
- 32:03Speaker 1: he made a lot of it and and I would
- 32:06Speaker 1: I didn't see or No, I didn't say who would
- 32:10Speaker 1: you rather? I know you you like, but I'm saying,
- 32:12Speaker 1: what game would you ra of course I struggled, and
- 32:15Speaker 1: then with a game on the line or great and
- 32:18Speaker 1: then struggles, You'd rather have my guy rising, which is
- 32:21Speaker 1: what Trevor Lawrence did. I didn't see pick it up,
- 32:25Speaker 1: pick it two coming back last night. I mean another
- 32:27Speaker 1: one I didn't. I didn't see as much as that comment.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Didn't see. Yeah, I watched that. I have to say.
- 32:32Speaker 1: One of the great things about an indoor stadium with
- 32:35Speaker 1: an open press box is that it's very loud and
- 32:38Speaker 1: I can yell. Usually in a press boy you have
- 32:41Speaker 1: to be really quiet, but like Evan like, we were
- 32:43Speaker 1: all spread out. It's a huge press box, so we
- 32:45Speaker 1: basically had and I heard there was nobody there ton
- 32:48Speaker 1: of space, right, so I was able to say and
- 32:50Speaker 1: do whatever I wanted, And I remember several times going, oh,
- 32:53Speaker 1: come on, I was just like a fan. I've never
- 32:56Speaker 1: seen you when they had the Hunter Henry, So that's
- 33:02Speaker 1: like the Hunter Henry thing. I I don't like playing
- 33:05Speaker 1: the math game like, well, they lost by seven and
- 33:08Speaker 1: that would have only been a four point like that
- 33:10Speaker 1: changes the scope of the game. And listen, I understand.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I don't need anybody to explain the rule to me.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I understand that probably by the letter of the law,
- 33:20Speaker 1: it's incomplete. I just hate it. And I thought they
- 33:22Speaker 1: fixed this. I thought that they sort of. First of all,
- 33:26Speaker 1: I don't understand why a guy catches a ball clearly
- 33:30Speaker 1: has two feet on the ground, twists quote to make
- 33:33Speaker 1: a football move, crosses the plan and that's not a
- 33:36Speaker 1: touchdown right then and there, and he's being touched at
- 33:38Speaker 1: the same time, Like I don't I don't understand why
- 33:40Speaker 1: he has to go all the way down to the
- 33:42Speaker 1: ground and then the ball can't move. And I tell you,
- 33:45Speaker 1: I saw, I watched I got a full dose or
- 33:48Speaker 1: red zone. Yeah, I saw like eight or ten plays,
- 33:51Speaker 1: not the same but similar. Well, everyone's showing the Kelsey
- 33:55Speaker 1: play that they called. Oh no, I'm talking they were
- 33:57Speaker 1: all incomplete on Sunday, like Chris a Lobby. It caught
- 34:00Speaker 1: like a deep crossing route, catches it in stride, takes
- 34:03Speaker 1: two full steps, gets tackled, and then when he goes
- 34:07Speaker 1: to the ground, the ball pops out. That's downe by contact.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Like that's what I thought, Hunter Henry was right down
- 34:14Speaker 1: by contact and since he's in the end zone, it
- 34:16Speaker 1: should be a touchdown, right, So why can the ground
- 34:19Speaker 1: not cause a fumble but the ground could cause any
- 34:21Speaker 1: complete pass. It's stupid. Yeah, I also think that Okay,
- 34:26Speaker 1: the ninety seven yard return for a touchdown on special teams,
- 34:30Speaker 1: that could have been the difference in the game, like
- 34:32Speaker 1: the Patriots score, and then you allow him to just
- 34:35Speaker 1: there's a lot this a lot strong penalty was as
- 34:38Speaker 1: big as any play in the game. Care Yeah, it's
- 34:40Speaker 1: win a game, quarterback. Yes, And I'm with you. Believe
- 34:47Speaker 1: you said if it has to be perfect, then they
- 34:50Speaker 1: can perfect. They can only win with one script. One
- 34:55Speaker 1: script only the defense dominates. They play from the head,
- 34:58Speaker 1: they have a cushiony offensive performance like this is how
- 35:02Speaker 1: it's been for two years. They can only win one
- 35:04Speaker 1: way and that's but that's the only way he wanted Alabama,
- 35:07Speaker 1: Like everything was perfect all the time. Well, yeah, perfect,
- 35:09Speaker 1: but it wasn't even close though. Yeah, but I think everywhere. Yeah,
- 35:14Speaker 1: I think too, right, I mean, I get a little cook.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I don't know if I could throw twenty out. Yeah.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I just think that he's never had he's never had
- 35:26Speaker 1: like the experience with like pulling his team to win
- 35:28Speaker 1: from behind. So you guys are doing a great job
- 35:31Speaker 1: of taking away my enthusiasm that I wrote in my
- 35:34Speaker 1: notes about the offense, because I saw looked at it
- 35:36Speaker 1: as to say, like if you had said before the game,
- 35:39Speaker 1: you're gonna allow twenty six points, I don't know how
- 35:42Speaker 1: you guys would have felt, but I would have said,
- 35:43Speaker 1: they got no shot. They're gonna lose twenty six to ten,
- 35:46Speaker 1: twenty six to thirteen. Like That's how I would have
- 35:49Speaker 1: thought about it, even though they were playing a bad defense.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I just didn't have any faith. I thought, at least
- 35:54Speaker 1: I saw a life, at least I saw a hope.
- 35:56Speaker 1: He saw the field great. I thought he threw some
- 35:58Speaker 1: really accurate passes down the field. The deep ball through
- 36:00Speaker 1: to DeVante Parker was one of the best deep balls
- 36:02Speaker 1: he's thrown in the NFL. Yeah, that was a great throw,
- 36:05Speaker 1: and he made some really good plays on third down
- 36:08Speaker 1: on the couple conversions that they had. He made a
- 36:11Speaker 1: great play to Myers over the middle, or a pump
- 36:13Speaker 1: fake to move the linebacker then hit him on the
- 36:15Speaker 1: other side. Like little things like that, I just feel
- 36:19Speaker 1: like he wasn't doing before. Pocket manipulation, you know, coverage
- 36:23Speaker 1: like looking guys off or pumping into get guys off
- 36:26Speaker 1: the route he's trying to go to, you know, seeing
- 36:30Speaker 1: leverage and like the safeties and where they're pointed and
- 36:32Speaker 1: stuff like that. You know, it was a two high
- 36:34Speaker 1: coverage against DeVante Parker, but the safety jumped the crossing
- 36:37Speaker 1: route and he saw it and he hit the deep ball.
- 36:39Speaker 1: So like there was little things like that I thought
- 36:41Speaker 1: that he was doing in this game that he was
- 36:43Speaker 1: not doing before. But it just, you know, the third
- 36:49Speaker 1: down play really bugged me because like that's been him
- 36:51Speaker 1: all year is as soon as he sees pressure, he's
- 36:55Speaker 1: a different guy. And in that instance, you know, just
- 36:58Speaker 1: standing there, stare down on the barrel and make a
- 37:01Speaker 1: throw to Davante Parker. And in some of these games,
- 37:04Speaker 1: let's face it, he's gonna he's gonna face more pressure
- 37:06Speaker 1: than he did Thursday night. Yeah, I mean, I know,
- 37:09Speaker 1: I'm happy that they're playing the Bills. I'm actually happy
- 37:14Speaker 1: because let's get it overwhere. Let's get it overwhere. I
- 37:17Speaker 1: do think let's get to that in a second hour.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Or I do think that they're catching the Bills at
- 37:21Speaker 1: a good time because of Buffalo situation. But you know,
- 37:26Speaker 1: the whole twenty five point thing, like, I don't know
- 37:29Speaker 1: what the weather is going to be like in all
- 37:31Speaker 1: these games. It's gonna be windy by the wayday night,
- 37:33Speaker 1: but I don't know what the weather is going to
- 37:35Speaker 1: be like in all these games. They have six games left,
- 37:37Speaker 1: and I don't know what the injury situation is going
- 37:39Speaker 1: to be. Like, let's just say for argument's sake, the
- 37:41Speaker 1: opponents and all six games for the Patriots are reasonably healthy,
- 37:45Speaker 1: their quarterbacks play, and the weather doesn't impact the game
- 37:49Speaker 1: like it did in that Monday night game at Buffalo.
- 37:52Speaker 1: If you don't find a way to win a game
- 37:54Speaker 1: when allowing more than twenty five points, you have a
- 37:56Speaker 1: good chance of going ohen six. Yeah, No, it's true
- 37:59Speaker 1: down the stretch because I don't I don't know how
- 38:02Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not telling you that, without question, unequivocally,
- 38:06Speaker 1: every team that they face is going to score at
- 38:07Speaker 1: least twenty five points. But if you're asking me right now,
- 38:11Speaker 1: will Buffalo Sco Twenty five Thursday night, will Arizona School,
- 38:14Speaker 1: will Vegas, I'm gonna say yes. I don't know about Arizona,
- 38:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna but I'm gonna say yes, that's the only one.
- 38:20Speaker 1: That's the only one I can I can make a
- 38:22Speaker 1: case in my head right now of they should. I
- 38:24Speaker 1: think they can and should get that one. But after
- 38:26Speaker 1: that they may out coach that to the point where
- 38:29Speaker 1: they were able to hold him down. But if DeAndre
- 38:32Speaker 1: Hopkins and the rest of that cast is healthy and
- 38:36Speaker 1: Kyler Murray is healthy, most importantly, because if it's Colt McCoy,
- 38:39Speaker 1: they won't score twenty five points. That's gonna be a
- 38:42Speaker 1: hard task. That offense is broken. The only way that
- 38:45Speaker 1: they scored a lot against the Patriots, I think is
- 38:48Speaker 1: if they let Kyler run, which they haven't really been
- 38:50Speaker 1: doing much this year. So when I mean it would
- 38:54Speaker 1: say run, I mean like design design runs. But he
- 38:56Speaker 1: can still scramble. He can scramble. But I and I
- 39:00Speaker 1: saw someone yelling at you on Twitter, and you know
- 39:02Speaker 1: that's how they got him hurt, Like yeah, okay, well
- 39:04Speaker 1: you paid him two hundred and fifty million dollars to
- 39:06Speaker 1: be a guy, and he's if if you're it's like
- 39:09Speaker 1: paying Lamar Jackson then being like, we're not gonna run
- 39:11Speaker 1: you at all, Like you're just gonna be a pocket pack.
- 39:13Speaker 1: You're not. He's not good enough from the pocket to
- 39:15Speaker 1: say we're not going to design any runs for him anymore. Right,
- 39:18Speaker 1: they had they had two last week. Uh, you know,
- 39:20Speaker 1: he's got like twenty on the year design run keepers
- 39:24Speaker 1: and if they do that with Kyler, but offensively they
- 39:27Speaker 1: look good for good stretches of that Chargers game and
- 39:31Speaker 1: then they just went It was kind of like the Patriots.
- 39:33Speaker 1: They just went completely in the tank. I think they
- 39:35Speaker 1: had three three and ounce in the fourth quarter. It's
- 39:36Speaker 1: just their drop back passing game is terrible. And if
- 39:38Speaker 1: you can get them out of design run play action stuff.
- 39:42Speaker 1: But if you have Hollywood Brown and DeAndre Hopkins and
- 39:45Speaker 1: that Greg Dortche guy who's played really well for them,
- 39:49Speaker 1: Rondel Moore and James Connor with Kyler, that that's I
- 39:54Speaker 1: could spread you out. Problems that can spread you out.
- 39:56Speaker 1: That's the formula because it's not just one one guy,
- 40:00Speaker 1: it's different guys and a quarterback that can move now,
- 40:03Speaker 1: I think Cliff Kingsbury. I mean, from what I saw
- 40:06Speaker 1: from Kevin O'Connell, like, the biggest thing to me was
- 40:09Speaker 1: they were ready for what the Patriots had been doing
- 40:12Speaker 1: to every team with their rush package all year. And
- 40:14Speaker 1: I'm not breaking it down x's notes, but like the
- 40:17Speaker 1: little stunts and swims and things that they did up
- 40:21Speaker 1: front were they were ready for with an offensive line
- 40:24Speaker 1: that was going into the game quote overmatched, And I
- 40:28Speaker 1: think it takes a good offensive mind to patiently say,
- 40:34Speaker 1: I know we're not going to be able to go
- 40:35Speaker 1: anywhere with Dalvin Cook in this game, but it's important
- 40:38Speaker 1: that we keep giving him carries because we can't let
- 40:41Speaker 1: him drop back forty five times. He will get strip sacked,
- 40:45Speaker 1: he will get hit. And they threw it thirty eight times.
- 40:49Speaker 1: I think it was thirty seven passes, one sack, which
- 40:52Speaker 1: is probably a little higher than they wanted. But they
- 40:54Speaker 1: kept running Dalvin Cook even though he wasn't getting anywhere,
- 40:57Speaker 1: and that allows the offensive line to protect Cousins enough,
- 41:01Speaker 1: and the rest was on Cousins, who dealt with the
- 41:04Speaker 1: pressure better than as Sam Ellinger was going or Zach

- 51:43Speaker 1: from the nineteen Jones takes the staff, dropping back, stepped up,

- 51:48Speaker 1: sits down with two seconds to go and one second
- 51:51Speaker 1: and no seconds left. The game is over. The Vikings
- 51:55Speaker 1: have won it. Thirty three twenty six. All right. Back
- 52:02Speaker 1: here in Patriots on filter at eight five five past
- 52:04Speaker 1: five hundred is the A Sticket hot line web radio
- 52:07Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address. Deuce is here, Evan, Paul, myself, Matt,
- 52:13Speaker 1: what happened to tomorrow? She eating lunch? But you know
- 52:16Speaker 1: what your jackets here? You know we didn't get to
- 52:19Speaker 1: what Evan's back from practice? Oh is that where you
- 52:23Speaker 1: came from? Let's do it practice and has done, has done?
- 52:39Speaker 1: All right? I missed that. I missed the jingling a
- 52:42Speaker 1: little bit. It's been it's been been a little bit
- 52:44Speaker 1: a hot minute. It s been a minute. Yeah, it's
- 52:46Speaker 1: been a minute. Another practice in another day without Damien Harris.
- 52:51Speaker 1: So Damien Harris not at Patriots practice. He was the
- 52:54Speaker 1: only player missing from Patriots practice. So Isaiah win can there. Well,
- 52:59Speaker 1: he was there yesterday, well and the day and Sunday. Yeah,
- 53:04Speaker 1: but a DMP on the injury report, which has happened
- 53:06Speaker 1: a couple of times this year. So I think that
- 53:08Speaker 1: there's maybe mental reps going on or something like that
- 53:12Speaker 1: for guys when that happens. But remember dugger Kobe Myers.
- 53:16Speaker 1: I think when he had that knee injury, was out
- 53:18Speaker 1: for the media portion and then ended up being a
- 53:21Speaker 1: DMP on the injury report. So I don't expect Isaiah
- 53:24Speaker 1: win to participate, but he was there and David Andrews
- 53:29Speaker 1: still practicing. I was limited yesterday. They think he's gonna play.
- 53:33Speaker 1: So he's telling Mark Daniels sounds like he's yeah, all right.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Jacoby also told us that he was going to play
- 53:39Speaker 1: before Green Bay I want to say it was, or
- 53:41Speaker 1: whichever game that was, and then they pulled him back.
- 53:44Speaker 1: So I mean, look, he traveled the team to Minnesota,
- 53:48Speaker 1: and I think that the cooler heads prevailed in that
- 53:50Speaker 1: situation and said, hey, you know, let's let's give it
- 53:53Speaker 1: a week. But good news on the other side, the
- 53:56Speaker 1: whole school got the flu. What Buffalo had five guys
- 54:00Speaker 1: not practice yesterday because of going around. Yeah, it's going around.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Dion Dawkins is the big, the big one. I mean,
- 54:05Speaker 1: he's an injury though, but you know that's one to
- 54:08Speaker 1: monitor again. Last week, Yeah, the same thing with Aissau
- 54:10Speaker 1: and the Vikings. Can the Patriots take advantage of the
- 54:13Speaker 1: backup left tackle this week? I don't know. We'll see, right. Um.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Other than that, were they in pads today or no? No, no,
- 54:19Speaker 1: they haven't been in pads all week, I think because
- 54:21Speaker 1: of the three games and twelve days and the quick
- 54:23Speaker 1: turnarounds and stuff like that. So yeah, no pads, no pads. Um.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I know a lot of media didn't go to Minnesota. Yeah,
- 54:32Speaker 1: they're where. They're back to the usual size information today. Yeah,
- 54:37Speaker 1: I would say most of the mostly you know, Bill
- 54:40Speaker 1: Bill this morning draws draws a crowd most of the time.
- 54:44Speaker 1: So yeah, there there was a good amount of media there.
- 54:47Speaker 1: But yeah, very small Condigon in Minnesota. Yeah, I noticed
- 54:49Speaker 1: that as well. Mike blew us off, Well, a friend's
- 54:53Speaker 1: call because I thought was more important than Bill and
- 54:55Speaker 1: my understanding, Well, he's not at eleven o'clock, right, We've
- 54:58Speaker 1: got to make sure the coaches not getting sick, right right. No,
- 55:02Speaker 1: But seriously, though, I'm not surprised to hear that a
- 55:05Speaker 1: bunch of Bills had illnesses because it is going around.
- 55:09Speaker 1: Well you kind of mocked me, but like they had
- 55:13Speaker 1: that road game that should have been a home game.
- 55:16Speaker 1: So you're back and forth in Detroit twice in five
- 55:19Speaker 1: days and you're dealing with an incredible amount of snow
- 55:22Speaker 1: at home and it's not ideal for the Bills. And
- 55:26Speaker 1: I'm not giving them an out to lose. They should.
- 55:28Speaker 1: You know, let's face it, the Bills are a better
- 55:30Speaker 1: team in the Patriots. They should win the game. But
- 55:33Speaker 1: you know, you're dealing with the left tackle being down now.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Their secondary's been in shambles all year. They lost another
- 55:39Speaker 1: player on Thursday and Christian Benford who's was put on
- 55:44Speaker 1: IR with an oblique injury. They've they've had a lot
- 55:48Speaker 1: of a lot of problems in the secondary. Do you're
- 55:50Speaker 1: Dan Jackson bit o Dan Jackson's kind an illness, He's not.
- 55:56Speaker 1: He's one of the guys sick, but he needs to play.
- 55:59Speaker 1: Do you think he can exploit him so bad? Well,
- 56:02Speaker 1: I mean he's like the corner. He's like they went
- 56:06Speaker 1: after Shelley on the Vikings. He was like a practice
- 56:08Speaker 1: squad guy. That they called up. That's that's Dan Jackson.
- 56:11Speaker 1: But but for thee Yeah, I'm monrails Saint Brown put
- 56:15Speaker 1: him in a blunder for four quarters that game. I
- 56:17Speaker 1: did mention, um weather, it does look like it's supposed
- 56:21Speaker 1: to be windy Thursday night cold. I thought it was
- 56:24Speaker 1: reasonably mild, but it could be win wind wind. It's
- 56:30Speaker 1: what I'm hearing. I mean is that that's kind of
- 56:33Speaker 1: bad for us. I feel like, yeah, usually used to
- 56:36Speaker 1: be an advantage, right to be good luck to come
- 56:39Speaker 1: up here, but right, uh Jelanni Tavai to resigning and
- 56:43Speaker 1: probably the most predictable move of the last year two
- 56:46Speaker 1: year extension. I know we did a little thing when
- 56:49Speaker 1: you were Gonfred. Why why did they do that? Running
- 56:51Speaker 1: because he's cheap and does what they like, plays all
- 56:54Speaker 1: four down. I don't know. Don't forget his contract was
- 56:58Speaker 1: is that why? Sorry I missed that was literally said
- 57:03Speaker 1: that he was pending free agent contractor Jacobs is about
- 57:07Speaker 1: to expire? What about him? To him? That's called real night. Yeah,
- 57:11Speaker 1: two years for four million extensions. So just I mean,
- 57:14Speaker 1: he's such one of their guys, and I still think
- 57:16Speaker 1: they'll need to get more athleticism at the second level,
- 57:19Speaker 1: but I think he does check a box for them.
- 57:21Speaker 1: As far as depth, it's been much better than I
- 57:23Speaker 1: expected he has. He's made some He was really really
- 57:26Speaker 1: bad in camping in the preseason, and he looked like
- 57:28Speaker 1: a different guy the second we got They saw something
- 57:30Speaker 1: in him. Obviously, he's played well. Yeah, he's played well.
- 57:33Speaker 1: I was critical of the role that it looked like
- 57:35Speaker 1: he was going to have coming out of camp, but
- 57:38Speaker 1: he's played well. Yeah. I mean, if all those guys,
- 57:39Speaker 1: Mack Wilson, Rake Wanaman, he's played the most, he's done
- 57:42Speaker 1: the most. So a little bit of a surprise. But
- 57:44Speaker 1: all right, five five past, five hundred days, ticket out long.
- 57:46Speaker 1: We've got some people that have been patiently holding on,
- 57:49Speaker 1: So let's go to them. Mike's in Connecticut. What's up, Mike,
- 57:51Speaker 1: Thanks for holding on? Yeah, how you guys doing good? Mike. So,
- 57:57Speaker 1: just to jump at something that was at the top
- 57:59Speaker 1: of the show, I think Paul, you and Evan are
- 58:01Speaker 1: both right. I think in the end it doesn't really
- 58:04Speaker 1: matter because Jefferson did what he did. But what I
- 58:07Speaker 1: interpreted Edvan saying with Buffalo was that they just left
- 58:11Speaker 1: their garbage corners on Jefferson and then did nothing to
- 58:14Speaker 1: try to adjust, at least from what I saw and
- 58:17Speaker 1: what you get to talk about, they haven't they done
- 58:19Speaker 1: what went from They had about four guys on that
- 58:22Speaker 1: on that fourth found play, Buffalo definitely hurt them. But
- 58:26Speaker 1: I think that, you know, like again, it's moved because
- 58:29Speaker 1: Jefferson did what he did, but I think it's a
- 58:32Speaker 1: little different than what Buffalo did because they just kind
- 58:34Speaker 1: of let their corners die. No, I get it, there
- 58:36Speaker 1: was rising Buffalo, did I get it? Um? And then
- 58:40Speaker 1: the last thing before I got to go and I'll
- 58:41Speaker 1: take it off air, is what do we do now
- 58:43Speaker 1: that Damian Harris is likely to miss some extended time,
- 58:46Speaker 1: maybe because we haven't really seen strong Kevin Harris has
- 58:50Speaker 1: not really done anything. And then the only other guy
- 58:52Speaker 1: that Wemember talked about is J. J. Taylor. He got
- 58:55Speaker 1: released from the practice squad and I don't think that
- 58:57Speaker 1: he got signed back. He's done a practice squad. He's back,
- 59:02Speaker 1: So I guess what I mean That backfield is kind
- 59:06Speaker 1: of steven since and it really has been um, you
- 59:10Speaker 1: know he I think there was the one game, the
- 59:14Speaker 1: Jets game where Harris broke a couple of long runs
- 59:17Speaker 1: and he had the more production, but the carries have
- 59:20Speaker 1: gone to Stevenson. Yeah, I do feel better if Harris,
- 59:25Speaker 1: Damien Harris was available. Not to go all bill on you,
- 59:28Speaker 1: but it's good to have all of that, right, you know. Yeah,
- 59:31Speaker 1: I mean I definitely feel better with both. But I
- 59:33Speaker 1: don't think it's a disaster. Don't only have Stevenson. Yeah,
- 59:35Speaker 1: but he's just that You've got nothing out of those
- 59:37Speaker 1: other guys. JJ Taylor continues to just kind of be
- 59:39Speaker 1: persona non grad. I don't know what they're doing, and
- 59:41Speaker 1: they can repromote him. This week, he seemed like the
- 59:43Speaker 1: next guy up. Hard to see Pierre Strong getting a
- 59:46Speaker 1: vote of confidence going out there this week and Kevin Harris.
- 59:49Speaker 1: I don't know, it's it's I just I'm worried here.
- 59:52Speaker 1: We there's still six games to go. Is Stevenson gonna
- 59:55Speaker 1: be able to make it and carry the load because
- 59:56Speaker 1: right now with Damian Harris, really just worry about So
- 59:59Speaker 1: was this an another thigh injury that you know, season ending,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: but he might be able to play in two weeks now.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: This one seemed a little bit milder. He was on
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: crutches on Thursday, So we'll see, but I think it.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I think you could see some empty I do. I
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: think you could see some empty I think that you
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: could see some some different wrinkles where they don't necessarily
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: emphasize the running back as much. They've ran some empty
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: successfully at times this year already, so it's gonna be
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: a Remandre And then there might be stretches where where
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: they try to do some different things from shotgun to
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: make sure that they're not making Remandre carry the ball
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: thirty times for six straight weeks. I think that's gonna
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: be I do think this game is like interesting because
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: of the illness running through their locker room in addition
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: to their injuries. Because most of the illnesses on the defense,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: it's a lot of safeties out. Um, but Jen Jackson's
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: got to play yeah, um, And so I'm interested to see,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: like what type of Bill's defense the Patriot's offense is
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: going to play to begin with. Yeah. I mean, it's
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: honestly markable that they're third in the league in DVOA
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: and they've had like nine of their guys have been injured.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: It's amazing, Like I mean, just in one like everybody
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: gets a lot of injuries, like in NFL teams, but
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: there's have been concentrated in the secondary like from the start,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and you know, maybe for their you know, on their side,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: like Trey White got about ten or fifteen snaps I
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: think on Thanksgiving. Maybe that was sort of his little
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: sort of seems this morning sounds like he's going to
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: put the ramp up for him to play, you know,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: the full way, which would help to keep Evans. Guy,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: don't I don't want you looking at their receivers you
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: go over there. But you know, kier Elam has been out.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: I told you the other rookie, Benford, was placed on
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: i R after the Thanksgiving games. So those are two
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: guys that were playing you know, big minutes. Um. They're
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: trying to resurrect Xavier Rhodes, right, they brought him off
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: the practice spot and had him active. And you know,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: is it Toronto Taran Johnson, he's their best player in
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: the secondary? Yeah, I mean he Um is one of
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: the only guys on the depth chart doesn't have a
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: little like red Q or O next on them. So
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and it's like on their injury report yesterday, Hamelin safety illness,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Jackson CB illness, Johnson safety illness. It's like literally yeah,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: and then the tight end of the wide receiver illness illness, Yeah,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: they obviously have something running through the locker. Hamlin's they're
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: starting safety right now because Mica Hyde's been out, So
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: they haven't had Micah Hyde, they haven't had Jadavious White.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Their corners have been a mess, and player has been
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: in and out. Player has been in and out, and
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: they're still the third best defense in the league. It's yeah,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: it's a great system really, And what they do is
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: they run a lot of bodies up front. You know,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: von Miller's the centerpiece. Obviously they got him for a
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: very specific Yeah he's out, but they run you know,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Epanessa and Rousseau and you know these guys even at
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Oliver for an interior guy's a good pass rusher is
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Jermaine Edmunds, so and he's been out, you know. So
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: like a lot of that front seven, they use a
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: lot of different bodies, which is why they've been able
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: to get away with it. To Evan's point, because I
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: think they get some pressure. They're normally playing from in front,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: so they can get after the passer. But you know,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: at some point you lose enough guys and it's going
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: to make an impact. The Von Miller thing is huge
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: because Von Miller against Yanni could just is that is
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: as big of a mismatch as you could possibly have,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: and the fact that they don't have to deal with
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: that is gonna be big for them. And that really
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I think the secondary and Buffalo survived because of that.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Pass up the passers has been a phenomenal all year long. Miller,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Oliver Rousseau, all those guys have been getting after the quarterback.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: So taking Von out of that equation is definitely a
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: McDermott said this morning that he liked where Rousseau and
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Epinessa were trending, but I don't know if that means
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: they're gonna play Thursday night. Now. They were full participants
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: in practice, but that I don't think everybody does it
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: the same way. I would caution, you know, like anybody
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: who's listened to a full participant and the Patriots, like
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: you can guarantee they're gonna play. I don't think that's
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: the taste for everybody else. Yeah, let's go to Sam
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: in North Carolina. Hey Sam, what's up y'all? Hey? Sam,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I just wanted to take this time to get on
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: pols Pole and had the opportunity too. I like Mac,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: but my god, man, he hasn't done anything to wow me.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Like whenever we get down, you know, I'm still waiting
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: on that miracle to happen, and it just you know,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: it hasn't happened. So I don't know we're gonna go.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I'm just I'm a pet fan. I guess and go
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: whoever the quarterback is. And I appreciate, Okay, yeah, thanks Sam.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I mean it's it's fair. I mean, Evan laid it
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: out in the first hour of the show of the
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: opportunities that they had. They had four possessions in the
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: fourth quarter of that game, and and and had two
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: three and outs and a turn off runtdowns and then
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: you know, I'll say three possessions of the last one
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: doesn't really count desperation mode, but no points. Ye, Eldred's
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: in North Carolina, Hey, Aldred, Aldred, He's gone. Oh man,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: he'll call back. Todd's in North Carolina. A lot of
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Carolina calls what's up? Todd? Hey? You know, Pats fans
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: are everywhere right and in Carolina. I think that Paul
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: used to say, you know, draft Aligneman on your own
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: time type thing, and to say kind of a similar
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: sentiment towards Thursday games. I'm actually quite impressed for a
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: four day turnaround, not at home Thursday game, that they
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: did as well as they did. I was actually expecting
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: them to, you know, get suffocated. I was expecting in
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: them to be dog tired. I expected to score, to
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: be run up, and it really didn't happen. I was
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: I was really waiting, you know, you know, I think,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: and everybody's saying, oh, the Pats are gonna win this.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: It was like, what do you what do you guys
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: seeing I don't know, I don't see it, especially with
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: where our offense was kind of not you know, quite
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: there yet. But I liked what I saw. I think
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: that there's more positives than negatives from this game when
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: you factor in the fact that it was a Thursday
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: freaking game at Minnesota. Yeah. I don't understand why everybody
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: tend to be slappy games, you know. Yeah. Yeah, And
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: I didn't see a much slow except you know, there
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: was a little bit, but there wasn't much. I don't
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: know they had. It's just disappointed because they had an
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: opportunity there, and I mean it was I mean, this
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: wasn't like, this wasn't Super Bowl thirty six. I mean
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: there were two and a half point underdog, So I mean,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: I guess I have to eat Crow again. I was wrong,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Like I thought they were gonna win the game. I
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: thought going into the game that they would win. I
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: thought I was wrong. I thought so. But I don't
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: think this was one of those games like uh, Tampa
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: Bay last year, when you went into the game and
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: you're like, Oh, this is gonna be tough, and then
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: they almost win and you're like, oh, I think it
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: was like when I played the Rams. Yeah, you know,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: they showed us like I didn't really hear anybody pick
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: yeah Minnesota in a blowout. No, I don't think it's
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: that hard in retrospect to imagine a rematch of that
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: game going the Patriots way. You know. I just I
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: think for me, the X factor they said at the
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: top was just Kirk Cousin's ability to deliver the ball
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: under pressure. I mean that that's you know, I would
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: you say thirteen fourteen under pressure, thirteen for fourteen. That's
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: tore him up. It's tough. It's tough. Let's go to
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: William and Fellham what's up, William? What's going on? Fred?
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: How y'all doing all right? Question is for the day?
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Um this team? Gee? Um okay, y'all say so Evans
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: and you need you expect, you want man to go
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: out and win a game. So let me get let
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: me I agree with you at the same time, but
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: let me see if you group with me on this job.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: How you spect him? Got to win a game when
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: your coach is messing with your development? Basically okay, and
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: you gotta learn a new scheme, you gotta You got
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: a defensive for a head coach coming from another team.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: You got another coach that was was a special team
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: is basically and coming over. So and then your offensive
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: line is troches. You don't have that receiver that makes
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: the third that makes that big play that you need
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: for third damn play. So how are you supposed to
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: win a game? I mean, how did they put up
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: three hundred and eighty two yards in the first three
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: quarters of the game? Like you can't you can't have
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: it like both ways right, Like you can't look at
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: the coaching staff. We've done this, the coaching staff, the
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: offensive line, all that stuff wasn't a problem for them.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: For most of the night on Thursday night. The line
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: played well. They I thought, got back to a passing
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: script that resembled more of what Mac did in his
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: rookie year, which I think helped him out a lot,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: And they are moving the ball. But and and everything
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: you say, William is absolutely true for an average quarterback.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: But we're asking Mac to be the guy, you know,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: we first round pick. We're asking him to be the guy.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: And if he's the guy, he's gonna figure out a
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: way to overcome everything that you just said, which is
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: all true, you know, and like he hasn't shown signs
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: of doing that yet. I just don't think that Patricia
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: or the line was their biggest problem. And I don't
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: think Mac was a problem necessarily. I just don't. I
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: don't look at it. I didn't say, you know that
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: this was like, you know, the weeks before where I
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I really took it to Patricia for you know, the
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: game against the Jets or the game against the Colts,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: and how just discombobulated they look at don offense. They
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: looked like an NFL offense on Thursday night. At minimum,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: even if you believe, okay, he's eventually going to be
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: the guy. You have to admit he's got a ways
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: to go. Yeah, he's not there yet. But can I
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: say something? Yeah? Can I say something? What y'all just saying?
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Y'all want him to be the guy, but y'all need
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: to understand he's not to great? Okay, No, I don't
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: know what Tom Breeve was in a second? Can he
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: be Kirk Cousins? Yeah? Right, Kirk Cousins did it against
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: the better defense? You got me on that one. I
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: can't even say that. Yeah, Like like I always I
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: always said that, Like I'm hoping his ceiling. Mac Jones
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: is like Phil Simms. Well, I would take a Phil Simms.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: William give me a DM offline. I'll teach you how
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: to argue better. Like you can't don't give up. You
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: can't just give up. Yeah, just because someone makes a
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: relevant point, you can't you just like Tocktail and high,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: can I get on that email toup of all right,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: thank you? I mean not the data like sort of
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: criticize all that. He doesn't. I mean it was what execution, right,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: I mean, this is the show that you could make
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: the plays down. I will say, you know, the red
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: zone has been a humongous problem. Obviously, they're among the
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: worst in football. I do think the O for three
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: this game, it's a special kind of Owen three. Yeah, No,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: because I don't. I don't what's the worst red zone?
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: They're supposed to be the worst. The first trips are
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: to the red zone, inexcusable. That's all on the on
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: the players, the coaches. Everything. A reverse to Kendrick Point
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: that loses seven yards, terrible. The second one there were
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: mental mistakes made along the way. They ran out of time,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: they had to kick a field goal. And the third one,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: I think they get screwed out of a touchdown. I
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: think they unless puts the ball, but the touch down,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: and it's to me, the touchdown in itself should not
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: have been that hard. I get it they scored. It's
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: but it is hard to score touchdowns in the red zone.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: And I think they scored a touchdown in the red zone. Yeah.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: And I'm not trying to be an apologist, like and
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I always do this, like just so you know where
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I'm coming from. One hundred weeks ago, in Week four
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: in Green Bay, with about two minutes left in the
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: tie game, I thought Aaron Rodgers threw a bomb to
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs in the end zone. He caught it, dove
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: in the end zone, and when he hit the ground,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: the ball came loose. In my league, that's a touchdown.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: It ain't a touchdown in their league. So I'm not
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: trying to tell you like I think the Patriots got robbed.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: That's not where I'm coming from. I think the rules
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: are flawed. Like they say, when the ball hits the ground,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: if it moves a little bit, this it's incomplete. I
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: thought the interesting thing that the Belichick said this morning
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: when he was at someone asked him about the red
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: zone for the hundredth time and he said, you know,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: a couple of times on Thursday night, we were able
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: to skipp the red scoard from outside. I was going
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: to ask a follow up to that, Yeah, is it?
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: You know when he gets to that, do you does
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: that factor when you're struggling so much? Does that factor
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: into your play calling and you're thinking yourself, let's take
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: a shot. So that's what a lot of teams do,
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: right because the red zone. You know, this Buffalo team,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: for examples, had all sorts of problems in the red
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: zone this year against Detroit, I don't know if he
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: was right in the red zone or if it was
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: the twenty or the nineteen right like, I don't know
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: exactly where it is. But they threw a touchdown to
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Isaiah McKenzie that was like a shot play from the
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: high red zone or the fringe red zone, and the
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: Hunter Henry touchdown was from thirty seven yards out. I
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: think that there's a lot to be said about that. Yeah,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: I was gonna have to follow up, and then something
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: like the topic kind of change. Then it kind of
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: lost in what was the game might have been against
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Detroit where mondre Stevenson. It was like third and ten
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: maybe and he scored for maybe thirty yards out. Oh,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: I was a draw against Cleveland. Yeah, he had from
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: like thirty one yards something like that. But that's not
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: necessarily a play designed to score a touchdown US like
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: to Evan's point, you taking a shot into the end
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: zone from the thirty five. They had two thirty plus
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: yard touchdowns in this game, yeah, which is very rare
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: for anybody, but for the Patriots especially. I don't know
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: if you guys caught any of Kansas City you talk
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: about red zone struggles. I mean, it was painful watching
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: one of the best offenses in football try to score
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: against the team that's completely beat up and defeated in
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: the rams. I want I want a lot more twenty
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: three yard touchdowns, Like can we get like touchdowns on
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: that fringe red zone higher red zone area? Because that's
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: what bothered me so much about the Kendrick Bourne reverse
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: was like, you're actually in like the high red zone
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: the fourteen or fifteen yard line, Like, let him take
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: a shot at the end zone. Right, But this is
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: where I get a little defensive of the coaches. I
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: didn't like the call. I'm with Evans. Why everything Evan
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: just said, I agree with the moving down, Like butter,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: why they weren't they took over that they took over
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: in the red zone? Why getting on this is early?
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: I'm talking about early in the Kendrick Bourne reverse. Was
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: the second play after they go first and ten, they
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: run the ball for three yards right, second and seven,
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: they run a reverse to Kendrick Bourne and it loses
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: seven yards at second and seven from the red zone.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: Like that's a shot play. No, but that was the
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: second possession, right, yeah, the first possession they moved down
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: Like but no, but if this is a different because
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: why are you getting cute? Okay, so I'm gonna be
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: defensive of the coach being Sandra Bullet calling up from
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: from the press box. Stop, but why are you getting cute?
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Like like, you move the ball easily on the first
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: possession you set up? Why why are you getting cute?
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I don't I didn't get it. So, okay, I'm gonna
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: be defensive again, right the coaches. Yeah, when they're doing
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: these little tricky reverses to Taekwon Thornton and Cleveland and
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: he's going in on touch with a touchdown, no one's saying,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: why is he getting cute? Well that but that was
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: a jet suite, I agree, But it's the same kind
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: of concept. It's not a double reverse. Though I hate
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: the call. I hated the Taekwon Thornton call. The only
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: reason why, in my opinion, that worked just because the
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: other team. I just thought it was just too early.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: You're moving, you're doing well on offense, you had done
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: well on off just you're set up north south right,
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: just north south, just play like. I don't like the
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: idea in the red zone of going backwards and yeah,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: it's sure they work sometimes, you know, back to the Chiefs.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Kansas seeing does stuff like that all the time. I
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: hate it, like all the dressing that they do, like
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: they have nine thousand different motions and stuff, and then
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: it almost never works. Like even even Tyree Hill when
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: he was like running around the end would be like
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: a three yard run. He dance out of bounds and
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: it would take you know, it would be impressive as
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: hell watching him run. And you know when he goes sideways,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: it's it's kind of like Kyler Murray. He runs in
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: his hipsco sideways, Like I pull a groin just watching them.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Like day is a day where I wish we had
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: the camera zone. Everyone could have seen the pall in
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: his chair just yeah, I wouldn't have done that makes
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: some shots baby yet the ball in the end zone,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: yeah they I was thinking to think the chaotic shovel pass.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: It was like a Kansas City thing where there's like
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: where is the but the Steelers are in a shallow
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: pass to Derek Watt there full back last night and
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: it was disgustingly, what do we do? I heard that
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: game was not overly esthetically pleasing watch I needed, but
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: like four points from so I watched the whole game,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: by the way, Oh I got him how much? How much? Though?
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Did Tomlin want to be Saturday in that game because
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: he was vocal about and not liking that higher. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: there was no way it didn't cover himself and glory
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: then he know, I know he needed that game to
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: be the guy who just came off the street. It's like,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: and I stand with him, not because that's my family member,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: but it's also just like, you're not even giving a
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: chance to have a diverse higher, especially with everything that's
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: gone on with obviously Floras and other things around the league.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: It's like you just go and pluck somebody and put
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: him in a job who really doesn't have any experience.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: It's just it's just, oh no, Like, if you're a coach,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: I could see you being Yeah, you know, I had
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: to pay my dues. And Bradley says, I've destroyed about
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: five franchises. Damn it. I never a chance to destroy
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: a six ye someone in the Bay Area. He says, Look,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: the Vikings were the better team on offense. They have
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: the probably the best wide receiver in the league, good
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: tight end, solid running back. I can be okay with
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: a better team beating the Patriots. What I can't be
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: okay with is the stupid penalties on the Patriots. The
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: roughing the punter penalty was brutal at a critical time.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: If the memory serves me right, the score was tied
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: at the time and the Vikings ended up with a touchdown.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Another one was a third and long that end up
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: being third and short after an off side. I know
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: there were more dumb penalties that I can't recall off
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: the top of my head, but what happened to the
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: situational football and playing clean? I think that's what I'm
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: coming down too. Though. With this season, there's a there's
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: a lot of games to be played, and I think,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: you know, the games that were most interested are going
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: to happen coming up. But what I'm worried about is
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: this season going to be lost because of two big things,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: which is just overall sloppy penalty play and turnovers like
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: you know, I mean unprecedented amount of turnovers early on.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: They've had two games without him. But I just think
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: this is a Patriot team the way they set out.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: When we talk about what Bill's philosophy is, it's it's
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: now we're gonna you know, put together a balanced team
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: that maybe doesn't have any superstars, but we're not going
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: to beat ourselves, and whenever we go against a team
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: that will beat themselves, we're gonna allow them to do so.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: And I think what I've learned over the last few
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: years is that's worth a lot in this league. But
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: when they don't do that, that's why I worry that
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: they're gonna fall below the line in terms of the playoffs.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: That's what it's going to be. The totality over the
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: last few months of just the untimely, stupid mistakes and
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: the terrible turnovers. The good teams don't care about that
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: kind of stuff. I'm just I'm not. They've cared about
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: that for twenty years, so I'm not telling you that
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: there's no place for it. But Buffalo, their quarterback leads
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: the league. And interceptions, okay, like they turn over the
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: ball at a time like these other teams they have
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: better they have is it mental toughness, I don't know,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: but they're able to overcome these mistakes. Well do you
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: want to those team? Isn't something that's really jarring because
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: I agree with your premise about interceptions, And this goes
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: back to that Tom Jackson thing when he was like,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: he was talking about Brett five one hundred years ago,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: and he said, one thing I've always admired about Brett Farves.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: He's not afraid to throw an interception. And everybody made
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: fun of him because of how stupid that sounds on
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: the surface. But what he's saying is because he's willing
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: to try to make plays, and he makes a lot
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: more plays than he doesn't. But he's not going to
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: get spooked by the mistake when he makes it right.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: And that's what Buffalo is basically doing right now. But
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: do you know that Buffalo has only turned it over
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: one more time than the Patriots. I believe that I
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: like that to me is jarring because one offense is
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: completely pedal to the metal all the time, risking it
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: and pushing it, and another one is really playing the
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: odds and playing it safe. To ask a mediocre team,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: a well balanced medio to play perfect football, that's a
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: lot of stress, it's hard to do. It's it's I'd
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: much rather be a team that does one thing great,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: like whether it's played defense or offense, and then, as
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: we've said, you can overcome those mistakes. You don't have
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: to be perfect because you can always count on that
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: one thing that you do better than the other team.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: I just think the clean stuff, like the no penalties
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: and stuff like that. That beats the Jets, that beats
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: the Colts, it doesn't beat Minnesota, it doesn't beat Buffalo
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: because you you have to be able to be better
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: than that. You can't just be the team that doesn't
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: beat yourself. And it's hard in this league to not
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: make mistakes. You know you're gonna make mistakes. And that
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: right there is like the heart of it for me.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I mean that that is like the whole complaint about
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: how it's been set up right now. And Buffalo believes
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: in their talent. They have explosive pieces on offense, and
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: they feel like if we make a mistake, we got
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: an ad R touchdown in US maybe, you know, like
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: they have that confidence. It's just I think you hear
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: people say it all the time when you watch a
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Patriots game and then you go when you watch that night,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: you watch Kansas City against you know, the Rams last
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: year or whatever, and people say all the time, it
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: feels like I'm watching a different sport. Yeah, you know,
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: and that that's been Jarring. I think this year at
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: times like when you watch like the Jets game or
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: the Colts game, and then you know, you maybe you
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: watch a night game and you're like, wow, like this
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: is at such a higher pace. Yeah, like it's it's
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: not a fo you know, Like I'm watching like the
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: green Bay Philadelphia game, which I didn't think was very
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: well played. You know, I watched a good chunk of
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: the first half of that game, and I thought both
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: both teams were really sloppy. I thought, you know, it
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: took green Bay like four possessions before they said, huh,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts probably gonna run the ball, and then they
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: finally did something about it. But so I'm not trying
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: to tell you that's great football, because I don't think
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: it was. But it just like the tempo and the
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: pace of the game, and third and long isn't like okay,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: get the punter ready, he's got a No, it wasn't
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: a four. Even the pat Packers made some plays on
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: third downs, and again, their offense has been terrible all year.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: I just feel like sometimes you watch some of these
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: other games, you're like, oh, yeah, that's right. It's like
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: it's hard for the defense to get off the field right.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: First off, Hunter Henry caught it in the NFL has
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: no clue. We can talk about mac Jones until we're
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: blue in the face. However, all that aside, our weapons
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: are not good enough, he says in all caps, no
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: matter who our quarterback is. We just saw what a
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: first class weapon is in justin Jefferson. Our weapons aren't
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: even business class. We're stuck in, Coach, bring any quarterback
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: in here, and it's not going to look great until
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: that changes. Thornton. Thornton, he's closer than to kill Harry
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: than a good player right now. In fact, I'm ready
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: to call it a bus pick because he's shown us
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: nothing to date future star wide receivers. You see it
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: almost immediately, I see nothing. Finally, the call play to
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: try to block the punt that lost us the game.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: So Bill, are the special teams coach? Why there was
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: no reason for that? It was tie game and we
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: were playing well to that point. Yeah. I asked Keimer
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: mcgron about the call to block the punt. I thought
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: his answer was suspect, to say the least. He said, suspect.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: We're not out there just to get the ball back.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: And I was like, that should be your number one priority,
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Like all of the players that you make on special
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: teams is secondary to getting the ball back, right, whether
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: you return one to the house or you block upon
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: tier there, Like the first most important thing to your
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: unit should be getting the football back to the offense
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: after That's what I think. It's like whoa Evans after
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: that put away the night after that point, If you
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: want to make plays as he put it, or make
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: an impact on special teams, fine, but it can't come
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: at the cost of the game not getting the ball back. Now,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: I thought that, you know, and if indeed that's what
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: they did, like that was a dial and it certainly
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: looked for all you know, it was very similar in design.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: Is so I thought that was really poorly timed into
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: to your point, Fred, you talked about that red zone
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: possession with it Kendrick Bourne reverse, like they had been
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: moving the ball to that point offensively. What have you
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: seen that tells you we need we need to do
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: something to jump start at the offense. The offense was
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: playing well at that time, right, they had like one
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: bad possession where they went three and out to start
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, Like, why did you panic and say
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: we need a block punt to score. Yeah. I thought
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: that was a bad, bad time against an opponent. Yeah
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: that you know it take advantage reminiscent of like those
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: old Celtics games where the Celtics started getting momentum and
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Larry would get the ball and he would just stop
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: on a on a fast break and shoot a three pointer.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: And you're like, why not why stop and take that
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: three pointer? Not move the ball? But it was Larry
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: and he knew if I hit this three pointer, I
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: never thought that I put them away. And I think
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: maybe the mentality was, you know, okay, let's let's just
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: automatically change the momentum of this game with one play.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: And you know, I don't like, I know everybody was
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: up in arms with the call to block the punt.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: I was like, you know, okay, just obviously is the problem,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: but I just think it was a good time to
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: try to block try three. Okay. This reminds me of
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: the question that Bill was asked today about being too
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: a aggressive sometimes and like how there's a fine line
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: with like being too aggressive versus being cautious, and it's
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: like finding that balance between both of them. I think
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: that play is a good example of It's like you
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: do want to be aggressive on some plays, but in
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: other in other ways, they can't come back to bite
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: you in a situation that if you're a hair too
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: close to the case, still just still run into his legs.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: Listen that the mistake is on Pierre Strong, like that's
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: why it ended up. No, it's on camic Chord. No.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: See well, I mean it's Bill because camic Chord doesn't
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: decide when we're going after a punch and when we're not.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Bill told him, let's dial it up here. But regardless,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: I agree with you. It's a coaching mistake. And I already,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: like I already explained that I don't think it was
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: a good time for it. But like you just returned
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: to punch in the previous game to win a game.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: Why why why not try to set up a return
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: ye instead of taking one of your vice guys and
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: send them in. See if we could trick him again
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: like we did week. See the way Strong ran into
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: him like he had his legs stretched out. It's like
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: it wasn't like he even off his feet diving. He
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: just like ran into his leg and hit it with
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: his helmet. Down and distance leg fourth and three, like,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: you have to know that if you're going to aggressively
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: come after the punt, that there's a chance that you're
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: going to get the running into the punter. Penalties another
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: underrated play in the game. They had had a false
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: start penalty that's set up like a third in like
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: sixteen or something like that, or fourteen. I think it
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: might have been third and fourteen, and they let up
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: a pass to TJ. Hockinson for eleven yards that almost
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: got the first down. It was like he kind of
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: scored it through a little bit and they able to
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: rally to the ball and they stopped him. Without that,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: the running into the kicker is declined and they probably
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: just take the punt right. So but because it's fourth
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: and three, you could take the running into the kicker
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: and get the first down right when they caught it
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: against the Colts fourth and nine, right, and the fourth
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: and nine, even if you run into the kicker, it's
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: still not a first down, right when you call it
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: on fourth and three and you know that there's a
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: risk that you met you're coming after aggressively after the punt,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: and in a five yard even the five yard variety
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: of running into the punter gets you a first down.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: It's just not the time for that's fair enough. I
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: don't know, And again I thought there was no indication
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: that your offense needed that help. Yeah, and I would
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: much rather, like Paul said, set up a return for
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Marcus Jones and see if he can return it, because
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: he already returned the kickoff oh to the forty nine
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: yard line earlier in the game the week before. He
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: won you the game and buy himself. So set up
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: the return, try to return the ball back and let
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: the offense go back out there. I thought it was
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: That's why I didn't hate. A lot of people were
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: critical of Marcus Jones returning the punt at the end
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: of the game, like he just let it go in
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: the end zone and get it at the twenty. I
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: was like, no, the guys, I think the guy's special.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: I think he thinks he's special, and I think he's thinking,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: if I have a chance to get the ball in
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: my hands, I like my chances to make a play.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: What if he pops one for thirty five forty yards
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Like I didn't know. I had no problem with him,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: and it didn't work. They covered it great. They tackled
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: him out like the eleven yard line, and that, for
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: all intensive purposes, was game, set match. But if he
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: lets it bounce into the end zone, you're taking more
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: time off the clock too. Yeah, my market Stone's just
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: becoming quickly one of those guys you want the ball
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: in his Absolutely any opportunity. I have to see him
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: running the open field with the ball, I'm going to
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: take it. If I'm Bill Belichick. That's as good an
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: offense as you have. No, let's strong try to ball. Also, friends,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: back to the you were running the way he said,
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: if you put any other like quarterback out there, they
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: still wouldn't be productive with the weapons that we have.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: It's like that's that feels like a stretch. I disagree
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: with that stretch because it's like, Okay, say if you
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: put Justin Jefferson in place of I don't know, Jacoby,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: we'll just say Jacoby put him out there with Mac Jones,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: and that automatically is going to make the offense ten
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: times better. It's like Mac Jones still has to make
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: the decision. It's like the offensive line still has to
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: give him pass protection to be able to get the
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: ball to just well conversely, So it's like, give me
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: any of the top ten quarterbacks and put him with
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: our weapons, and I think the offense is better. Yeah,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: just like, Okay, I know Travis Kelsey's really good obviously,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: you know, understated thinking. Okay, but you're telling me the
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: Kansas City receivers are discernibly better than the Patriots, like
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Juju Smith shoots Valdis scandling Icole hard. But now they
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: have an elite quarterback. That's what I'm saying. So don't
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: tell me that you can you can put any quarterback
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: in the Patriots that No, not any I said any
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: of the no, no, no, He's said you could put
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: any quarterback in with the Patriots weapons and they would no.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: I know you do, yeah, and they wouldn't be any better.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: And I'm just like, there's plenty of guys that do
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: more with with less than the Patriots. Happen checked my homes.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: With our receivers, they're gonna be better. Now. I do
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: subscribe to the cliche and admit it's a cliche like
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: of you know, look what happened to Josh Allen when
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: they gave him digs. Look what happened? You know, when
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: you get you know, look what happened to Jalen Hurts
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: when you gave a j Brown, Right. I am definitely
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: a proponent of that, and get a guy a big
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: dog so it makes it easier Joe Barrow, which Joe
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Barrow was tremendous before we got Jamar Chase. Now he's
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: at a different level when when Chase is in the game. Yeah,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: and from a big pictures standpoint, I agree with the email.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: I've always said this about the Patriots offense and Mac
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Jones play calling, supporting casts super important. But in that
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: particular game, he threw for four hundred yards. Like, you
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: can't tell me that they didn't have enough guys open
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: to make plays in that particular game. From a big
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: picture standpoint, absolutely, like they don't have that alpha. They
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: do not have a true number one receiver that is
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson or a Jamar Chase or whoever. But against
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: Minnesota they had plenty. Do you have more emails? Yeah? Okay,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: Paul and the colony Fredick changes on the offense, if
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: if changes on the offensive coach of staff are coming
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: next year? What do you think of Frank Reich as
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: the coordinator? Are you aware of any good or bad
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: blood between he and Bill Belichick. Nope, I'm not aware
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: of any good or bad blood with them. You say, Nope,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: you don't want Frank in the same family. He's a
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: West Coast coach. And I don't mean like he lives
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: in California. I mean he's a West Coast offense I
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: think in Annapolis is not West Coast. Yeah, No, he's
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: a he's he's a Peterson Andy Reid disciple. You know,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: he learned in that in that language, completely different, different.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: That would be a true third system third coach in
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: three years per mac right, And he's not Frank, but
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: I do too, and he's not, but he's he's coming
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: in here to run his own thing, right. But nobody's
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: got anything other than Bill O'Brien, right, Like, that's the
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: only thing that anybody has right now as a guy
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: who was in the system, who's in the finally that
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: could come back, you know, I mean, are there any
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: off shoots or guys maybe young quarterback coaches that are
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: maybe in it. Yeah, Cliff Cliff, Sean Waldron's too handsome,
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: he's not He's not going anywhere. Shane. Is that a
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: great year? Yeah, he's probably gonna get a head coach.
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: I actually, well, I wonder if Bill O'Brien is going
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: to get one of the jobs. Yeah, if if that's
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: my question, If he's he seems like he's asserting himself,
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I want to get back in the NFL. There were
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: going to be a number of jobs open, right, head
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: coach jobs? You mean yeah, I mean, I mean, I
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: don't know how many off the top of my head,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: but Carolina obviously, um Denver has a good chance of
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: being open. I mean, would New Orleans. I mean I
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: think Newaoleans would be in play. You know, we'll see
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: what they Houston, Indie, Yeah, I forgot about Indie. I mean,
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: I think they go through all the current NFL hot
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: offensive coordinators. Those guys get the priority before you get
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: to like the Bill O'Brien kind of retread. And I
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: wonder if he needs a year back in the NFL.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: And I wonder if, like the whole Sean McVay thing
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: with the Rams, yeah, like he was. I mean I
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: believe that he was close to not coming back. It's weird,
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: and he might just look at it and say, like, no,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: I'm done, Like the dick in the head, the Dick.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Did you see that hard? Yeah, hurt the Dick Vermial thing,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the way you just kind of get burnt out, you know.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: And I'm not telling this is not like see for McVay.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: S No, I think McVay is a really good coach.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: I just wonder if he's done. I know, I'm looking
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: at like Dick vermil And, like he's like eighty years
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: old with like the like Sean mcfay's like thirty five
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: years old. No, the first time when they went to
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, he burnt out very quickly and he
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: was right. Yeah, he took probably ten years off. Good
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: movie by the way, Invincible. Oh yeah. That's the problem though,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: when you have a defensive coach, right when Bill's your coach,
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: is that they got lucky that Josh McDaniels stuck around
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: the second time as long as he did. Now you're
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: in this world where if you're not promoting from within,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: and you're not you don't have some farm system of
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: coaches on the offensive side of the ball that you're
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: because all these that's why Nick Kayley was the guy
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: a lot of us thought made sense because that would
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: be the next McDaniels. Yeah, I mean all these hot
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: offensive coordinators out there right now are all going to
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: get head coaching jobs. They're not going to make lateral
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: moves to come be the offensive coordinator to the Patriots.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: They're going to move on to be head coaches. So
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: look around the league. I mean, not a lot of
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: defensive guys are getting jobs over offensive guys right now.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: And this is why I wonder if it changes though,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: with you know, some of the scoring being down, and
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: you know, I wonder if that if it's going to
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: evolve at all. I just think that there's only so
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: many guys, even not even from like a design standpoint,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: just from also a play calling standpoint, how many guys
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: are actually good at it? Right? And then if you
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: don't have one of those thirty two guys it's actually
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: good at it, then you're in trouble. So all these
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: all these good play callers are getting head coaching jobs.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: Alex and Raleigh writes in I think the Vikings was
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: another showing that offense can't win games with just number
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: two wide receivers. I don't really care if Mac isn't
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: the guy, or is the guy we really need is
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: a stud whiteout like Marvin Harrison junior. Watching Justin Jefferson
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: get open and make catches made me think we should
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: see if we can reach a new level with Mac
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: leading the offense and having a playmaker. Do you think
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: there is any chance Bill learns his lesson from the
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: last few years and moves up to get a stud
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: wide receiver or does he settle for alignment. Well, Marvin
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Harrison Junior is not till next year's draft. He's twenty
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: twenty four, first of all, and he's going to be
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: a top five pick. So I'm gonna be controversial on
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: you right now. I don't love them, although I will
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: say the Ohio state receivers have generally panned out. Yeah,
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: state wide receivers, you know McLaurin Lave, They've they've panned out.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: That's what I was doing in my head was kind
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: of comparing the Patriots roster to the teams that are
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: in the mix right now. And you look at I mean,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Wilson for the Jets is kind of their guy, Jamar Chase,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: Keenan Allen. I mean, now, all these teams that are
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: in playoff contention right now kind of have that guy,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: except the Patriots preacher to the choir on that one
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: that Yeah, I am fully supportive of getting that, getting
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: that big big dog for you know, the receivers to
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: all settle back. I think what you have is fine,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: but there's no one and I know that Bill doesn't
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: believe in that, but I think it's important. And I
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: loved Garrett Wilson, and I mean it's it's and he
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: doesn't even like he's not Megatron, like you don't look
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: at him and think like this guy. But I think
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: just the explosive playmaking ability is what it comes down to.
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: What I do. I love it, and he's got on
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: the jets. I know that makes it doubly impressive to
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: be good on the jets. I was wrong about though
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: I wasn't too high on a Loba. He's obviously turned up.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: I actually liked A love it more than than Garrett
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: Wilson um because at the top of the route, a
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: lot of it was a little bit more technical than
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: Wilson was. But I might be end up being wrong
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: the other Ohio state guy, and I'll mess up the
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: name because I always do. Um This Smith uh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: what is it Jackson Smith something. Yeah. He's been hurt
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: for most of the year, but I think he'll be
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: He might. He might this year, but it was hurt,
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: so we'll see if he comes back not I see.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: To me, I know it's counterintuitive. The injury would make
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: me go if it was me, like, I'm not going
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: to spend another year where I'm nursing injuries in college.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: If I'm gonna be a nursing injuries, I'm gonna get
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: paid for it. I don't love the receiver class this
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: year from what I've seen and heard of it so far.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: Um I liked last year is a little bit better
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I have. I haven't obviously done any deep dives into it.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: I don't know who's eligible, but the two kids for
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: Tennessee can play Hyatt and I don't the other one's
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: better than him. One of them is eligible, and I
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: don't know which one. Okay, there's another one better than him. Yeah,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: there's some. Here's the Here's the bottom line, though, is
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: what the emailer said, Like, we'll bill not be stubborn,
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Like I don't look at it that way. But you
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: can take a wide receiver and I hope that you
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: get you know, the number one guy when you pick him,
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: But like, do you not take a tackle. I know.
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: So the big one, Jalen Hyatt is eligible. Um, the
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: big one is the guy from TCU, Quentin Johnston. What's
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: the other Tennessee receiver's name who's been hurt, Cedric Tillman him, Yeah,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: he's also eligible. Um. Jackson Smith and Jinba is eligible.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: Jordan Addison from USC he is eligible. Seeing him much,
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: he's pretty good. Um. And then oh, that's a kid
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: from Pitt that transferred from Pitt when Caleb Williams and
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley went to I remember has a one two.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: And then Josh down from North Carolina's barth Sky. He's
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: the one he keeps telling me about that him, but
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: he said more of a projected like high second round pick.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: It's just so you know, the level of information that
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: I have right now is all I'm going to bring
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: to the draft podcasts. Um, it's just off of what
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: I see on already established. I'm glad somebody's been watching it.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: Johnson writes in from Porter's Lake, Nova, Scotia. It's a
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: random question, he said. I'm not sure if you saw
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: the Washington Commanders player Brian Robinson wear a big hat.
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: I did a company that Robinson and his friend of together,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: but I didn't know it was I didn't know it
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: was his company, Paula fred over time as Patriots media,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: are there any memories of players wearing weird clothing they
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: invested in? Or is this a new thing with the
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: age of locker room social media? Do you remember Calvin
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: Ridley with the Onesies? Steve Ridley, Stephen Ridley, not Calvin Ridley. Yeah,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: Stephen Ridley remember the ones I do remember the Onesies.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: Was that something that he I don't know if he
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: invested in him, but he was wearing Onesies for a while. Yeah,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: I don't. I don't really. I mean there's some interesting attire,
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: let's put it back, usually like your own brand, like Edelman.
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: I can't think of Yeah, I can't think of anything
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: like seeing I mean the Foundations stuff. We could we
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: could pump up the h oh. Jonathan Jones is going
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: there at the podium. We got the guys coming off
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: from practice here, um trying to think, yeah, we got
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: to cause it might cause my cleat so Tetrick Wise
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: always got his wise up stuff on, among other things.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: But you know that that whole draft thing. To me,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: I would rather have a wide receiver than a tackle
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: in the first round. You guys know me, But that
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: doesn't mean like your problems are solved. Terry is Terry
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: mclaurina free isn't. No, he just signed a deal. They
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: sign him mad and that's why they need to my
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: nigger to need to address the offensive line. Yeah, and
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: with tackles, especially left tackles, but with tackles in general,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: you really need to get those early, first or second round. Yeah,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: you can't. Like you could plug a guy in and
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: play guard in the sixth round like Michael will when
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: you but it's hard to do that at tackle, especially
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: a long term guys. I mean, look get Solder, look
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: at Matt Light. I mean that's where you got those guys.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: Even Sea Bass was a right tackle you got in
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: the second right, second round for Light, second round for Volmar,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: first round for Solder. You know, And I would even
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: I would even count Mankins like, even though they ended
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: up moving him to guard, he was a tackle they
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: took in the first round. I think that's where you
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: you know, if you want really good ones that you
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: can rely on, that's what you have to do, Michael
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: and Idaho says, can someone explain why the running into
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: the kicker was a penalty. He ran into the kicking leg,
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: which from my understanding, is not a penalty. That's why
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: it was only five yards and not fifteen. If you
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: do the plant leg, it's fifteen. So there you go.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: There you go. It's not as much a penalty, right,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: that's the two five and fifteen on running into the
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: kicker or roughing the kicker, that's the distinction. But he
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: definitely hit the leg. I mean, you can't argue oh yeah,
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: I know everybody tried to argue it on Twitter Thursday night. Yeah,
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: he didn't touch the leg. Yeah, it was like, I mean,
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: the guy sold it well, but which is exactly what
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: you're supposed to do. Yeah, Like you don't just like
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: let someone bump into your leg and then just like
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: shrug it off like a tough guy. I know. You
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: make sure the referee side. You play soccer, right, shoddy
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: in Houston speaking of soccer, and it's it's a penalty
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: because the kickers vulnerable. Yeah, with with with a foot
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: in the air, you know, four feet high in the air,
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: you get hit anyway and that can potentially impact you. Right, Well,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: do you see it on kicks on on on place kicks,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: two on field goals, and extra points, like you can't
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: just let the guy run into the foot. Shoddy wants
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: to know if the Thursday game is a must win
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: game for the playoffs. I think so. I don't. No, No,
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: I mean, you gotta win these home games, don't you.
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: I think they need to win four games to make
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: the playoffs. But I don't think that. I wouldn't say
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: that they have to beat the Bills to do it,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: but if it would certainly help your home games, you
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: gotta win, like you said, four games, unless you think
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: you're gonna sweep the two road games. Well, I think
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: if you're gonna make the playoffs, that's an assess. Yeah,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: you have to win both of those games. Yeah, those
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: are the two easiest games on the schedule. They are.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: I think. I think, like you have to beat the
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: two teams with losing records if you're gonna make the playoffs.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: I mean, I think in theory, yes it is, but
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: I think mathematically no, it's not, and I would be
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: I don't want to get back into the path again
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: this year. You know what about like the mentality? Yeah,
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: and that's why. What do you think they have to
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: do to make the playoffs. Yeah, I think they gotta
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: probably win four games. I think they need to go
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: ten and seven. Yeah, So I don't really care which
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: four they win, right. I don't think that this is
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: a more winnable game than than the two after it,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: even though this one's home and the next two are
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: on the road. Yeah, I mean this one might be
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: might be more winnable than the one in Buffalo, But
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: I don't think it's more winnable than Cincinnati, but it might.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: I don't think it's more winnable than Miami. Yeah, you don't.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: You don't know how it's going to turn out. What
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: I mean, what's Buffalo going to be playing for him
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: that last week? Too? But I mean I hear what
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: Paul saying. I think though, like it kind of is
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: like I just you kind of need to make a
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: do you need to make a move? I think it's
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: a huge game for the Pageots. I think it's a
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: huge game for Buffalo. Yeah, and I think Buffalo was
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: on fumes. I think you're getting them at an opportune time.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: I think that they have a chance where they might
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: look at it and say, we had three games in
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: twelve days, all in the road, and we already won
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: two of them. We'll take it. You know, Jonathan wants
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: to know how Brian Hoyer is doing. Haven't heard anything
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: about Brian Hoyer in weeks. He's not even on the sideline,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: is he. I haven't seen him in weeks now, which
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: tells me that that's a significant concussion. I know a
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: lot of people thought he had the hellenic flu. Let's
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: go to the phones, builds an oaklaw. What's up Bill? Hey, gentlemen, good,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: thanks for tecking the call. I need to have a
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: little bit of a count's therapy time. If y'all don't mind,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: and I do, it makes sense in my head. I
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: just want to work shop, but a little bit with
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: you guys. The two things that I always think when
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: I think of a Patriot one is we always take
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: away the number one weapon of the team we're playing.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: And two, we always like to draft or get free
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: agents that have a lot of IQ or EQ. What
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: I saw Thursday night did not tell me that we
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: have either of those things in place. The penalties you
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: all have segued already into the roughing the kicker, those
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: two face masks. I've never seen a Patriots team get
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: two face masks in one game. I know the Sans
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: are iffy, but they hacked with the face mask. Yeah,
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: and with that many cameras and in front of the
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: opposed bitch, you're not going to get away with that.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: I I need to face them big time improvement and
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: do they bring in whether it's drafting or free agency,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: because this is such an unpatriate like philosophy that I
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: see translating onto the field and wanted to get your
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: thoughts on them. I mean, I hear what you're saying.
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: I just I've seen three years of this, like it
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: hasn't It's not like it's been that different. Like this
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: is what they've been. They've they've been beaten by number
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: one receivers and you know, like that whole thing where
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: they're going to shut just like why are we still
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: thinking that? I mean, they you know, they still have
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: a long way to go. It's just the clutch play
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: for me is the question. And I just I continue
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: to wonder mentally where this team is at because it
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: seems like when they get a little bit of adversity,
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: even after they had some success, they kind of cave
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: in within themselves. And you know, I just I don't
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: know what fixes that. And I think that that's part
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: of the problem with all this red zone stuff is
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: just you know, this team doesn't seem like they're all
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: talking about I hate I hate to like harp on, well,
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: when Brady was here, But when Brady was here, he
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: raised the level of everyone, not just like on the
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: playing field, but in practice accountability, like like like just
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: the intensity at practice. You know, um, he raised that level.
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: He did the exact same thing to Tampa Bay immediately
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: when he got there. They needed a culture change. But
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: that and and I think there's something to be said
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: about that. It's not just all built. It's it's not
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: all Bill but it's but it's also talent. And it's
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: back to what we talked about at the beginning of
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: the show. The mistakes. Yeah, there's probably more mistakes, but
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: I don't think it's as like Tampa Bay was one
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: of the most high highly penalized team in the league
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: where they they won the Super Bowl either out of
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: the next year, one of the two. I mean, and
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: Brady did. Everything Fred said is absolutely true. Brady instilled
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: the culture for the Bucks. But the difference is he
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: can make a play. It's going to allow you to
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: overcome the mistakes that you make. Yeah, right now, they're
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: not talented enough to make a lot of mistakes and
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: still find a way to win the game top to bottom. No,
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: I'm not sure. That's not a mac Jones question. That's
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: not a mac Jones problem. That's a that's a Patriots
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: problem right now all across the board. And you know
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: the penalties that they've had. This is when you're when
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: you're when you're just an average team. Because I won't
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: call them a bad team because they're average, they're a
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: mediocre team. When when that, when you're like that, it's
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: something different all the time. Yeah, you know, this game,
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: it was five penalties that gave the Vikings first downs, right,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: just really killer penalties. In another game it was because
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: you turned the ball over four times. But they've gone
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: three they've gone three games really without turn They have
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: one turnover in the last three games. The more they've
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: they've cleaned that up. But not another problem. The more
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: talented you are, the less perfect you need to be
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: correct and every time that you do these things. One
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: of the most impressive marks that Brady had when he
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: was the Patriots quarterback was like a winning record with
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: minus three in turnover ratio or something like that. You know,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: it was ridiculous, like, now, can you imagine to be
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: minus three in turnover ratio and even being competitive or
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: the other stat that he, you know, bucked the trend
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: was with a winning record when throwing from time and
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: he won because he did it because he wanted to, right,
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: you know, because that was the game other team. Now
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: we're seeing when teams throw a lot, especially the Patriots,
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: usually because he's scrambling back into a game. Isn't there
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: another stat where he has like a winning record when
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: he has a losing score going into either the second
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: half or the fourth quarter. And I'm not sure, but
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: I mean, he's that that kind of stuff. It's just ridiculous.
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: But yeah, it's it's always get what you're saying, but
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: it's you know when when when you're a mediocre team,
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: you know, it's you have to play perfect and just help.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: Being mediocre puts more pressure on you, and it's even harder,
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: right you know when that's gonna say, when it feels
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: like you realize you're mediocre and you realize like, oh god,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: the game's hanging by the balance right now, because we're
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: down by seven, and if we let them get that
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: next touchdown, it's probably lights out for us, right, And
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: that's just they play something. You know, we've been there,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: the three of us have been there at every practice,
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: you know, every training camp, and there's no change in philosophy. No,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: they're not, you know, focusing on different things and overlook
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: the details that they still as detail week in the
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: red zone as they ever have been. And it's just
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: like when the players aren't as good as they used to.
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: Thanks Bill, uh, Greg's in California? What's up, Greg? You
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: know Mike do So? Yeah? Hey guys. So with regards
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: to the Thursday game last week, I know that's on
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: third and one. We threw three separate times. We ended
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: up converting one of them, but ramondre Stevenson was averaging
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: like five yards of Kerry and I think he only
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: got the ball seven or eight times. So do you
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: have any reason for while we were growing it so
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: much more than running because they were throwing it with
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: such success? Yeah, it would be my guest. The game
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: plan was to throw the ball against the terrible pass defense,
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: and it worked. I mean I think three hundred and
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: eighty two yards passing. I just think that they didn't
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: execute when they when the game was on the line
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: backup center, that kind of tackle too, A little bit
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: of that too, I would say, that would be my guess.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: I mean I don't. I mean Bill hasn't said that, Greg.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: That's just my feeling was they went into that game
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: and they said this is a secondary we can exploit,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: and I think largely they were right. Yeah, Yeah, I
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: didn't like he and Elle had a complete drought in
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. I think two of the third and
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: one we didn't convert or in the fourth quarter, or
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: it might have just been one. But either way, Yeah,
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: well listen, there might be something too at the end
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: of the game, you know, just feeling that sense of urgency, Oh,
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: we need to throw, we need to throw, yeah, and
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: not Yeah, there was a there was one third and
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: one in the fourth quarter that they threw one, okay,
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: and that was when they missed. When he missed Henry,
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: I thought, I thought and that it was that the
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: plant that was the penalty that was a clear that
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: was another one that was a clear face mask on
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: mac Oh. I thought, yeah, Henry had the penalty on him.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: He was Oh, I didn't see a penalty there. But
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: there was one of those throws on third down that
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: they had Mac Mac completely came up and he was, yeah,
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: I don't even remember, but there was one. Then they
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: showed the replay in Daniel Hunter Crill. He had his
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: face that was clear as day. I didn't think the
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: bumping like I you know me, I you gotta like
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: hit a guy before a ball gets there for me
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: to say that's pass interference, Like, I don't mind if
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: this bumping in Jocelyn and all that stuff. Robbins racing,
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: Robbins racing. I like it. Um, did you guys see? Um?
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: There was a play in the Seahawks Raiders game early
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: in the game Derek Carr threw a pick and the
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: Seahawks were returning it, and a guy from the Seahawks
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: came off the sideline and got in the play and
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: blocked flag of any kind of any kind of like nope,
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: discipline or anything. Nope. It seemed to me like he
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: was excited, wanted to go in the field and celebrate.
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: He was still going, right, they really want they're talking
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: about it on Rome right now. It's gonna go. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: I saw people was making the rounds on Twitter last night.
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: I saw that's like Tomlin sticking his leg out. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: but at least they called that, didn't they call a
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: penalty on that with Tomlin? I think they did. Yeah,
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: I thought they called out sportsman like conduct on that. Yeah,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: but too many then on the ice for me, Yeah,
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: there was no no penalty, And I'm not sure I
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: ever saw that. No, right, didn't he? I seem like
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: he just was so excited he went to celebrate. They go, oh,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: the place still going. I'm just I'm just gonna start
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: blogging like he just jumped right. Well, there is that
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: old story I forget. It was like the thirties or
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: forties for the college game. Yeah, the guy came off
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: the sideline and made the tackle and they get him
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: a touchdown. Yeah, like the referee saw right right. Like
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: this one didn't happen a Patriots game to a family Parker. Yeah,
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: somebody came out of the stands something like that. Oh.
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: I think that may have been at Nickerson Field. Someone
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: got involved in a play. Yeah, yeah, some fan and
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: they didn't cut. I could see Andy Hart doing something
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: like that. That was the thing I thought we were
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: going to with the with Brian Robinson's hat. Yeah, you
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: know that's whatever me too. Everybody hit me for Andy Hart, everybody,
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: and good job, my, my, my, my Twitter peeps for
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: pointing that out to me. You know that you have
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: to get the large version of that hat, right. Yeah?
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: What was his hat size? Did you ever get that?
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: You ever see what he is? Like? All I know
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: is that velcro works really hard on those VISs Now
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: it was um seventy three quarters it was big, yeah,
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: I think it was like a ten. Yeah. Like he had,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: you know, the visor. Oh yeah, I'm saying, had this
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: orange visor that he'd always wear, and like it was
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: in the last strip of velcro. It was barely hanging on.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: It's the worst thing is big headed people, because you
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: just you don't know when the hats are gonna fit right.
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: And sometimes you just get a hat and you're like
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: it's too small. It's never fitting my big hat ever.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: You know, it's a problem. It's a problem with small
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: heads too, you know, like the small narrow head that
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: I don't forget about. Hats don't usually fit me very
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: well either. Um. It was here that the she was
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: awarded the Dallas Texans another down since the Boston fans
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: became so excited they came on the field. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: so they did recognize it. They had they had they
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: gave him another play, the Boston fans, the fans, do
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: you think everybody just tucked like that? Back on the
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: radio comes on the field to help out the Patriots.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: Davidson goes back to pass throws in the end zone.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: The fan almost block said it's ruled incomplete and the
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: Patriots winning twenty eight to twenty one. Man, so they
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: didn't redo it? Wow, play stands um. Robin wants to
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: know what are the chances Jimmy g is our quarterback
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: next year? Yeah? I don't think so. Yeah. What is
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: the uh the probability you have to have like less
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: than one percent? Yeah, something like that. I don't want
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: to say zero, but the board. All right, I'm gonna
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: call it a show. We've got another one coming up
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: tomorrow on Wednesday. Uh yeah, the day before a game,
