Latest / Mom Street USA / 45. What NOT to do on a Disney Family Trip - Top mistakes families make
Transcript
- 0:04Welcome everybody to Mom St. USA.
- 0:06My name is Jackie AKA wishes Mama.
- 0:08And this evening as always, I am joined by my wonderful Co host
- 0:12Kate AKA the Disney Cicerone and our topic for this episode is
- 0:18kind of a hot topic depending on your opinion.
- 0:22But we are talking what not to do on a Disney family trip.
- 0:27Basically going over top mistakes that you can make when
- 0:31you are visiting the parks with your family.
- 0:33And I think Kate and I both have some personal experiences to
- 0:36share tonight on this topic. Sadly, that is true.
- 0:42I mean that's. But you feel forward, right?
- 0:44You learn. But we these are things that we
- 0:46want to make sure you guys. No, going into it so you don't
- 0:50make the same mistakes we did or that are.
- 0:52Some of our listeners said that it gave us some input.
- 0:55We want to make sure that you are in the know of some
- 0:58potential mistakes that you could make that you can then
- 1:01avoid making. Absolutely.
- 1:04And we do want to give a disclaimer before we jump into
- 1:08all of this content that we are speaking this evening on
- 1:12mistakes that you could make. We are not speaking about rule
- 1:16breaking or law breaking or any of those types of things, so
- 1:22take that off the table for this evening.
- 1:25Obviously, don't do those things.
- 1:27Yes, do not do those things. Do not break the rules at
- 1:30Disney. Do not break the law, especially
- 1:32at Disney. But just a general, you know,
- 1:35make smart choices. But so we're talking tonight
- 1:38about mistakes that people make that could affect the amount
- 1:43that they do on their trip, could affect the the happiness
- 1:46of their traveling party on their on their trip, all of
- 1:50those types of things. So that's the focus for this
- 1:52evening. Yeah, so I I agree.
- 1:56Like I think it's a it's a given.
- 1:57Like don't dispel the rules, friends just just do that.
- 2:02But we want to make sure that you guys are have all the
- 2:05knowledge you need to have the best this indication you can for
- 2:08yourself, your family, whoever you're taking with you.
- 2:11And so the these this was, I actually surprised by how many
- 2:14things we came up with. And there's still people that
- 2:16are adding more like we see our good Frank and Doctor Jackson
- 2:19saying mistakes people make as ACM.
- 2:22He says they go in the wrong line for an attraction.
- 2:24Like there's this, this list, so on for a while.
- 2:26So I think that Jackie and I are going to try to be very succinct
- 2:30with some of these things only because we've talked about some
- 2:33of them before on previous episodes.
- 2:34So we're not going to go in depth in detail on every single
- 2:37point more. We just want to give you a
- 2:39general. Look out for this and then if
- 2:42you have questions about it, feel free to ask us and send us
- 2:45an e-mail and contact us on social media.
- 2:47If you need more information about any of these things, we'd
- 2:50be happy to help you. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:53Well, I think I'm going to jump in since we've got such an
- 2:56extensive list to share with you guys for this episode.
- 2:59One of the first things that came to my mind when I was
- 3:03thinking about things not to do is not making your resort
- 3:08reservation early enough in advance.
- 3:11So this is one that we have touched on in several other
- 3:13episodes. But you want to make sure that
- 3:15you get that resort booked, whether you're staying on
- 3:18property, off property, good neighbor hotel, decide all of
- 3:22that and get it booked. Especially if you're traveling
- 3:25during school breaks, holidays, all those types of things, you
- 3:29want to get that booked as soon as you know what dates are
- 3:31going. Yeah, and I think.
- 3:34If you really want to stay at a specific resort, usually like 11
- 3:38months out is a good benchmark. I know that's when you can start
- 3:42renting. Renting DVC properties as well
- 3:45is at 11 months out, so just think you know it's almost a
- 3:48year out is what you really want to be thinking.
- 3:50That doesn't mean that there won't be some things, especially
- 3:52certain times a year that are available sooner.
- 3:55Just plan ahead, is our best advice?
- 3:58Absolutely. Which will.
- 3:59Shock. No one that.
- 4:00That is our first plan. Shocker.
- 4:07Yeah. And our good friend Aaron is
- 4:09adding utilize a travel agent to help with it.
- 4:11Totally free and helpful that if that's something that you really
- 4:14want to do, you're like just take it out of my hands, I don't
- 4:17want to deal with it. Travel agents are wonderful for
- 4:19that and they are usually free. So that is a very good tip as
- 4:23well. So this one is make park
- 4:27reservations if needed, which is something that if you've not
- 4:30been to Disney in a while, probably wouldn't be on your
- 4:33radar because the this is the actual reservation to get into
- 4:36the park. That means you have your you
- 4:38have your tickets and you have your resort reservation.
- 4:40This is you need a physical reservation to get into parks.
- 4:44Now this is like getting a little bit more complicated as
- 4:47of the first of the year, and there's a whole bunch of like if
- 4:49you have this specific package or ticket or what just.
- 4:53Make sure that you know if you need a reservation that you've
- 4:57made it. I guess it's the best way to
- 4:59stick. We could put that, yes, because
- 5:01starting I think January maybe, I think it is that if you have a
- 5:07package ticket or a dated ticket, you don't need a
- 5:09reservation, but annual pass holder still need reservations.
- 5:13So yes, they have it laid out really nicely in a chart on the
- 5:16Disney World website. And this is Disney World.
- 5:19We're talking Disneyland, I think is different.
- 5:23Yes. So you have to take a look, buy
- 5:26a ticket to Disneyland. You automatically have to make a
- 5:28reservation at the same time. So it's you will still need that
- 5:32reservation, but it's not as like critical to think about as
- 5:36it does at Disney World because they're sometimes unlinked to
- 5:39each other, Yes. So just make sure that you look
- 5:42on the Disney World website because like I said, they've got
- 5:44a really nice chart that breaks down if you've got this kind of
- 5:48ticket, yes or no kind of deal. So look that up.
- 5:51Or if you're using a travel agent, they probably already
- 5:53know whether or not you need one and we'll help you take care of
- 5:56that. But just make sure you have that
- 5:58checked off your To Do List. We do have a comment from
- 6:02conductor Jackson, which is a good point, he said.
- 6:04Always have the confirmation e-mail handy, just in case you
- 6:06run into an issue with the entrance.
- 6:08That's also true. We always say screenshot,
- 6:10everything, everything, every confirmation, every ticket.
- 6:15Just screenshot it. Because for some reason
- 6:17sometimes these things get disappear from the app and they
- 6:21they go away and you're like, so you know, screenshot
- 6:23confirmation, screenshot things. You can go back and delete them
- 6:26later and take them off your phone.
- 6:27Just have a copy of it somewhere saved on your phone so that you
- 6:31have proof of everything when you go places.
- 6:34Yes, absolutely. And I think you've mentioned
- 6:36before that Disneyland tends to sell out of their reservations
- 6:42more quickly than Disney World. That may change going forward
- 6:47with some of the new things after the first of the year, But
- 6:49just again, make your resort reservation, make your park
- 6:54reservation if you need one. Just do it all as soon as you
- 6:57know your dates. Again, Disneyland.
- 6:59There's been many, many days when I've walked walking into
- 7:02the park and they have the little sandwich board sign out
- 7:04that says like reservations are full for today.
- 7:06And I'm like, oh that that sign gives me so much anxiety even.
- 7:09And I do have one, so right, yeah.
- 7:12And our friend Kathy B does make a good point.
- 7:14She said she has had everything delete when the app was doing an
- 7:17update. So it's always important to have
- 7:20those screenshots. I I mean when I help people
- 7:22book, even I screenshot everything and send them all the
- 7:25screenshots too, because it's like better safe than sorry have
- 7:29it done so you know that it you have that confirmation.
- 7:32Yeah, it's also great with Lightning lane reservations as
- 7:35well. So all the things that you book,
- 7:37do a screenshot just for safety and that segues perfectly into
- 7:42the next option that we have or the next item on our list of
- 7:46what not to do is not making reservations for dining or any
- 7:52extras that you may want to do on your trip.
- 7:55So making sure that you know what date your dining is for you
- 7:58to be able to book that 60 days out of your check in date.
- 8:02If you're going to be booking something like trying to get
- 8:05Bippity Boppity Boutique or trying to get AVIP Tour or
- 8:09trying to get any of those extra packages, they have a bunch of
- 8:12stuff at Animal Kingdom. All of the above.
- 8:15Make sure you know when you're eligible to book and make sure
- 8:17you hop on and book it right away.
- 8:20And also booking more table services potentially than your
- 8:25family would do. So that way you've got options
- 8:27and you can always go back in and cancel and modify later, but
- 8:30just having those available for you so that you don't miss out
- 8:34on that opportunity. With with the caveat of don't
- 8:38book a million of them and hold them so other people can have
- 8:41them. Like go to one the only things
- 8:43that you would potentially go to, but maybe if you're tired,
- 8:46cancel them. So let's be kind and courteous
- 8:48to everybody. Very true.
- 8:49Very, very true. Absolutely.
- 8:53I think Kate put you put a message you can't talk.
- 8:56You put a note on here about not limiting your freedom and
- 9:00spontaneity while you're there at the parks.
- 9:02Too, Yeah. Can I explain that a little bit?
- 9:04I want to say I I think that I like what you said, but I'm
- 9:08saying like the opposite, like be careful you don't overbook
- 9:11your your reservations that you don't over schedule.
- 9:14So I think our good friend Kirk from Walrus Carp, who is a theme
- 9:17park expert as well, he said. You know, doing 2 table services
- 9:22in one day is an awful lot because it takes a lot of time
- 9:25away from the parks and some of those sit down meals can take
- 9:28upwards 2 hours plus depending on where you go.
- 9:31So you know if you like that you want a slower pace and you want
- 9:34to sit down, that's great and that's your vacation and do
- 9:37that. But just if you don't go to
- 9:39Disney often and you're like oh I'll just book these for like
- 9:41lunch and dinner and it's going to take a lot of time out of
- 9:44your trip. It does limit your freedom, your
- 9:46choices when you go and do be spontaneous and.
- 9:50It takes, it just takes a huge chunk of the day away that you
- 9:53might be anxious to get back out there and get stuff done.
- 9:55So yeah, And either way, whether you want to do the slower pace
- 10:00or want to have more freedom, just make sure you book it.
- 10:03That's really the important thing is either way, no matter
- 10:06which way your party is going to lean, just make sure you book it
- 10:10as soon as you're eligible. So that way you don't miss out
- 10:13on those really hard to get reservations, because even then
- 10:16you still might miss out on those really hard to get
- 10:19reservations. And we've talked about using
- 10:21dining alerts and all those types of things to help you get
- 10:23those. But either way, just make sure
- 10:25you're booking them when you're eligible to book them.
- 10:28Yes, absolutely. Speaking of booking things,
- 10:31moving on to at number four of our mistakes that families make,
- 10:37I think one of them is booking your flight schedule into Disney
- 10:41based on the cost alone and not on your actual schedule.
- 10:45Now I understand. Believe me, I understand how
- 10:48like money is tight and it gets tighter every day, and I
- 10:51understand the wanting to save a few dollars.
- 10:54But I'm going to tell you if it's like $20 difference flying
- 10:59in at a time that is better and easier for your family.
- 11:02You know, maybe don't do the red eye or do the red eye if that
- 11:05makes more sense than flying in late at night and being
- 11:07exhausted for the next day. Like whatever works for your
- 11:10particular family and your family's schedules.
- 11:13I have done the cheap flight thing where you have 3 layovers
- 11:17and then you get there at 1:00 AM and then the next day is so
- 11:21awful it just is bad. So don't you know.
- 11:26Do that to yourself. Recognize that when you fly can
- 11:30really affect the beginning of your vacation and sometimes you
- 11:32have to play catch up for a day or two with your sleep if that
- 11:35was really tough traveling there.
- 11:37So be careful when you book your flights.
- 11:40Yeah, absolutely. I think that's super important.
- 11:42And it it varies depending on who you're traveling with.
- 11:45If you know if you're going by yourself or just you and your
- 11:48spouse, you know, maybe you can handle landing at 11:00 PM but
- 11:52if you're traveling with a 2 year old, maybe that won't fly
- 11:56for them literally. So.
- 11:59So just keep that in mind. Absolutely.
- 12:02But the next one is one that I feel like you have heard us talk
- 12:04about probably 100 times on various different episodes.
- 12:07But one of the biggest mistakes that we see families making is
- 12:12not doing your ride priority list for the parks.
- 12:16We've talked about this. We've talked about how important
- 12:19it is to make that list. Without that, you're going to be
- 12:22just wandering or just standing in the middle of the walkways,
- 12:28trying to figure out where to go next.
- 12:30Having a plan, having an itinerary, knowing what your top
- 12:34three or four rides are is so important because then there's
- 12:38no question about it. You can just go from one to the
- 12:41next, to the next to the next, especially during those early
- 12:44morning hours. They're so important.
- 12:47Yeah. I asked my husband what he
- 12:49thought were the biggest mistakes we've ever made at
- 12:51Disney, and like one of his biggest ones was.
- 12:53The asking What do you want to do?
- 12:56I don't know. What do you want to do?
- 12:57And like everybody, like, huddled around the map or the
- 12:59app or whatever, trying to figure out what to do next is
- 13:02like such a huge waste of time. I mean, that's really what you
- 13:06want to do on your vacation. Nope.
- 13:07You know, no shade. But that's not something that my
- 13:10husband enjoys. It's not something that I enjoy
- 13:12because everybody has different opinions.
- 13:14Then it becomes this huge, like, debate.
- 13:17It's just like, we'll just go in with a plan, with everybody's
- 13:19favorites and just execute the plan.
- 13:22It's just easier in general. And I feel like even with that
- 13:25plan, it's still inevitably going to happen that at some
- 13:28point throughout the day you're going to go, what do you want to
- 13:31do? I don't know.
- 13:32What do you want to do? I don't know.
- 13:33Or you're going to go, do you want to do this?
- 13:35Do you want to do this? Do you want to, like, you know,
- 13:36throwing out some options? But even still, having that
- 13:39priority list to at least start your day off is going to put you
- 13:43in a good position to have just a much more stress free visit to
- 13:48the parks. Yeah, you do not want to start
- 13:51your day. With what do you want to do when
- 13:53it's like the time is ticking and there's only so many minutes
- 13:56of like low lying time. So don't do that.
- 14:00I will mention just real quickly, we talked about flights
- 14:04and and being careful about your schedule, but someone also
- 14:07mentioned Chris also mentioned where you fly in is also
- 14:10important. I actually don't know this one,
- 14:13like I'd fly into MCO all the time for Dizzy.
- 14:15She said SFB, which I don't even know what that airport code is
- 14:18because I've never heard. OK.
- 14:20So there's also that one. Yeah, there's also the Sanford
- 14:22area Airport, which is, I mean it's it's probably a solid 45 to
- 14:27an hour from property. But a lot of the smaller
- 14:31airports from like this side of the country will fly into
- 14:36Sanford. So like I live close ish to the
- 14:39Dayton airport in Ohio. It's a very small airport.
- 14:42It flies directly into Sanford Gotcha with like Allegiant and
- 14:46some of those cheaper flight options will go there.
- 14:49So just be aware it's not fun to make that drive you're going to
- 14:54pay. Probably what you saved in an
- 14:56Uber if you're not, go. If you're going to Sanford
- 15:00instead of MCO, Just I Unless you've got a really good reason,
- 15:03I highly suggest you do not fly into Sanford.
- 15:07Yeah, and the same thing goes for Disneyland.
- 15:09I always recommend people fly into John Wayne, Orange County,
- 15:14SNA and not LAX. I highly discourage LAX.
- 15:18It's on the other side of LA from Disneyland and if you hit
- 15:23rush hour traffic, it's hours that you're on the road.
- 15:26So just try not to. If you think you're saving
- 15:29money, you're not going to. It's going to be awful.
- 15:31And it's expensive too, for Lyft or Uber to get across the city.
- 15:34So take that into account. Yes, absolutely perfect.
- 15:39OK, are we ready to? I think we're on you.
- 15:42I think we're on the next one. Yeah, OK, so another mistake I
- 15:46think a lot of people make is not making time for photos,
- 15:50family photos. I think a lot of families do
- 15:53this, you know, like you see the massive lines at Disneyland to
- 15:55take pictures with like the Mickey pumpkin during Halloween
- 15:58time and things like that in the tree.
- 16:01But. I think we can often forget to
- 16:03do that because we're so like set on getting places that we
- 16:06forget. Maybe we take one morning
- 16:08picture, we don't take any others, the whole trim or
- 16:10whatever. And we also don't take advantage
- 16:13of those photo pass photographers if you've bought
- 16:15the photo package or in Disneyland if you've bought
- 16:17Genie Plus, photos are included with those photo pass
- 16:20photographers with your Genie Plus purchase.
- 16:22So not taking advantage of that is really sad because you know,
- 16:27it allows everybody to get in the photo even.
- 16:29Moms who maybe don't get in the photo, maybe dads who don't get
- 16:32in the photo because they're busy behind the camera really
- 16:35helps everybody get in the picture.
- 16:37Yeah, that is something that we have found.
- 16:39We've had to like now that we go with our kids, you know, when it
- 16:43was just my husband and I, we would do selfies, We would do
- 16:45quick, You know, it was not a big deal.
- 16:46But like we typically get photo passed with our kids now that we
- 16:49go and it's like, no, we have to stop, got to take a picture.
- 16:52You know, like, oh, like there's a, you know, and it's one of
- 16:54those things where it's like when we see the photo pass
- 16:57photographer, it's like Okay. Nope, we're stopping go take a
- 16:59picture. Even if it's like Okay, My son
- 17:02doesn't want to take a picture on this one and just my daughter
- 17:04is agreeing to okay. Cool.
- 17:05She gets solo shots on this one. Yeah, some great photos that
- 17:10way. So it's definitely, definitely
- 17:12worth it. Yeah and I agree Aaron is saying
- 17:15I try to do a lot of candid spur the moment pics with my phone.
- 17:18So a lot of non post photos sometimes I end up being your
- 17:21favorite. So keep that in mind as well to
- 17:23focus on those as well. Not just everybody standing
- 17:26around staring at the camera, as much as we love those as well.
- 17:28So yeah, a little, a little bit of both.
- 17:31I think a little bit of a good mix.
- 17:32So yes, I agree. OK, Next on our list of mistakes
- 17:37that families make at Disney is forgetting to check the weather
- 17:41for your trip, but checking it also several times before you
- 17:45pack. And while you're there, so right
- 17:48also that, but so important. Like I will check it like you
- 17:52know, as soon as I can because you get so excited that you want
- 17:55to see what the weather's going to be like when you're there.
- 17:57You know, as soon as my weather app will go.
- 17:59Far enough in advance. Hi Jackie, No, my weather app
- 18:06only goes like 3 weeks in advance.
- 18:08So like as soon as those dates pop up on my weather app, I'm
- 18:11scrolling to see what it's going to be like.
- 18:13But then I always have to check it several times.
- 18:17The one of the last trips that we took as a family, we went in
- 18:20October. About 10 days before we went,
- 18:23there was a tropical storm that went through and it totally
- 18:27wonked out the weather and the week before we were there was
- 18:32super chilly. It was like in the low 60s for
- 18:35the highs. And then the week that we went,
- 18:38it swung it up the other way and it was like 8590° the entire
- 18:42week we were there. And that literally changed like
- 18:45within the like two or three days before we went because it
- 18:48was that weird tropical storm situation.
- 18:53So checking it up until the day. Before you leave the day that
- 18:58you leave to make sure if you need to grab an extra sweater,
- 19:01you have the ability to do that. Yeah, and I also would throw in
- 19:06always be prepared for rain, especially in Florida.
- 19:09Also though they've had some a really rainy year last year in
- 19:12California as well, so keep that in mind.
- 19:14But there's all almost always those afternoon thundershowers
- 19:17in Florida. Some days are just straight on
- 19:19rain most of the day. Just be prepared with your
- 19:22poncho, your umbrella, whatever it is that you is your preferred
- 19:25method. I prefer Pontos just because
- 19:28they're easy to slip into our bags and always have there just
- 19:31in case. But I do.
- 19:32I've been getting on the Umbrella Club recently, so I
- 19:35don't know, maybe I'm switching. I think it always, for me, it
- 19:38always depends on, yeah, like am I traveling with my kids and do
- 19:41I have a stroller? Like, you know, there's there's
- 19:43various different situations where I prefer an umbrella
- 19:46versus a poncho. So just depends, but either way,
- 19:49have something with you. Yeah.
- 19:51And and also layers are kind of your best friend.
- 19:54A lot of the time, especially I will say in California they have
- 19:58what is like a marine fog that comes in from the the ocean in
- 20:02the morning that burns off by the afternoon.
- 20:04So when you leave in the morning, it might be a little
- 20:06chilly and overcast and you just think that's how it's going to
- 20:08be all day. By the afternoon it's, you know,
- 20:1180s, nineties and you're really, really hot.
- 20:13So just you know, layers is is your best friend there.
- 20:16OK. So the next one is what I think
- 20:19is really interesting. Jackie, you added this one and I
- 20:21hadn't really thought about that before, a mistake we wouldn't
- 20:24make at Disney is eating at chain restaurants that you can
- 20:27find near home. Do you want to elaborate a
- 20:29little bit about that? Yeah, I just feel like there are
- 20:33some choices of restaurants nearby Disney or on, you know,
- 20:37Disney Springs, places like that that people can find near them
- 20:41at home. So I just feel like.
- 20:45When you're when you're at Disney, try to branch out, pick
- 20:48something that maybe you cannot find near home or isn't a chain
- 20:52restaurant or isn't you know, a fast food restaurant that when
- 20:58you could pick something for the same price point that maybe
- 21:00would be something different when you go to Disney.
- 21:03So I get that sometimes budget is a concern and maybe those are
- 21:08the best. Budget friendly options that you
- 21:11might need at that moment, but trying to find something a
- 21:14little bit different, I think can be fun.
- 21:17Yeah, especially at Disney. There's so many options at
- 21:20Disney World that I don't think you'd need to eat at a chain
- 21:23restaurant. Unless you're just just really
- 21:25need your fix of something, I guess.
- 21:27But I know, I agree. I think that's that's a great
- 21:30tip. This one I feel like I I even
- 21:35forget to do sometimes on my trips.
- 21:39And that is forgetting to check for things like special events
- 21:44in refurbs happening at the parks during your trip.
- 21:47So things like cheer events or run Disney weeks or holiday
- 21:52parties, we've that's what that one's pretty obvious.
- 21:53I feel like we have mentioned that a lot, but ride refurbs
- 21:58like I know the sky liner is getting ready to be refurbed in
- 22:01January, so they're going to not announce that soon enough.
- 22:03Just saying, not that I'm bitter or anything.
- 22:07Not not bitter at all. So things like that.
- 22:10You just want to make sure that you are searching online.
- 22:15There are a bunch of places that will post the refurb schedule if
- 22:19you can't find it on the Disney website.
- 22:20It's not always easy to find on the Disney website.
- 22:23They don't like have a nice little list like we would like
- 22:26them to. So finding somewhere that has
- 22:30compiled that often Chip and Co will have it, you know, posted
- 22:34on in in an article on their website.
- 22:37The cheer events and some of the dance events are harder to find.
- 22:40You just kind of have to search around and know what time of
- 22:43year they typically come. Same with the run.
- 22:45Run Disney is pretty easy to find on their website, but just
- 22:48searching around, seeing if there's anything you need to
- 22:51know about before you go. Dapper Day is one that I know a
- 22:54lot of people don't think about too.
- 22:56We just had that conversation because it's coming up in about
- 22:59a month. They're doing Dapper Day, so
- 23:01just things like that that you may need to take note of.
- 23:04Yeah, and it will make a little plug for touring plans as well
- 23:07that we're not sponsored by them or anything.
- 23:09But I do love that on their crowd calendar they do list a
- 23:12lot of events that are happening that weekend or if it's a
- 23:15holiday weekend or like things that they anticipate the crowds
- 23:18being hired for. They have a lot of that compiled
- 23:20there. So I find that super helpful
- 23:23when I'm planning. But yeah, I mean, don't stop.
- 23:27Don't stop it from don't stop going just because these things
- 23:31are happening necessarily. Like, don't make it, but just be
- 23:34aware that it might, you know, run Disney sometimes effects
- 23:37traffic flow or, you know, like there might be certain a lot of
- 23:40people just that one or two days around that event that are in
- 23:43the parks. And yeah, and then, yeah, people
- 23:48are commenting about the sky liner.
- 23:49Like, Oh my gosh, the sky liner's going down almost every
- 23:52single year in January, about the third week of January to
- 23:56almost the end of January. A portion of it or the whole
- 24:00thing is down for refurbishment like clockwork.
- 24:02It happens every year and I'm always surprised by it.
- 24:08Even though you know it happens, you're here preaching to us.
- 24:11It happens every year and it's like, yeah, they didn't announce
- 24:14that early enough. Wait a minute, right.
- 24:16We're taught, we're being honest about the mistakes we've made.
- 24:19I'm one of these people. So I will say though, sometimes,
- 24:23sometimes those resorts are a little bit cheaper during that
- 24:26refurb week because people don't want to stay there and they have
- 24:29to fill them anyway. So just keeping that, keeping
- 24:32that out there, shall we do bot hour next week, honestly.
- 24:38I was like, sorry just briefly, things like that, like Kate
- 24:41said, shouldn't stop you from going just you may need to just
- 24:44plan accordingly and just realize that if you're at a sky
- 24:47liner resort and you don't have the sky liner as an option,
- 24:49you're going to have to wait for a bus.
- 24:51So is everyone else. So just keep it in mind.
- 24:56The buses. Oh, the buses?
- 24:58Where's? Elliot's Lift gift card when you
- 25:01need it on this, on this trip, right?
- 25:05Love my husband that he gives that for me anyway.
- 25:09All right, let's move on to one that I think that is a big
- 25:12mistake that a lot of people make.
- 25:14And we say it over and over again because we're just like,
- 25:16we're just going to keep saying it out there until everybody
- 25:19hears it. That people wear brand new shoes
- 25:23to Disney without breaking them in or think they have broken
- 25:26them in, but they're not broken in for, you know, the 10 to 14
- 25:29miles of walking you do during the day.
- 25:31So don't wear brand new shoes to Disney.
- 25:34Wear comfortable shoes to Disney.
- 25:36Don't wear things just because they're cute, unless you just
- 25:39want to wear them for photos and put them in a locker and change
- 25:41your shoes. Or if you're not going for very
- 25:44long, you're just going to pop in for an hour, By all means,
- 25:47wear the cute shoes, but just sue your feet and back and
- 25:51everything else a favor your knees a favor.
- 25:54Wear good quality. Shoes, yes.
- 25:57And take. Make sure that you have broken
- 25:59them in, too. I know some of you and some of
- 26:02you may be like, well, I know this brand of shoe.
- 26:04I don't. You know, they're good to go.
- 26:05OK, that's fine. You've clearly done your
- 26:08research with that. But don't buy a pair of shoes
- 26:11and take them brand new in box to Disney.
- 26:13Please. Just don't do it.
- 26:14I'll break them in at Disney. No.
- 26:18Yeah, and along the thing, your feet will immediately be sad and
- 26:21you have your entire week ahead of you.
- 26:23Yeah, and along those lines, another mistake that I have made
- 26:27in the past is not bringing 2 pairs of shoes to alternate.
- 26:30Like when your feet get tired of one pair.
- 26:33Or maybe something's rubbing a lot on your heel or the side of
- 26:35your foot. If you have a different pair of
- 26:37shoes to wear the next day, then you can kind of stave off a lot
- 26:40of those blisters or like sore spots on your foot because
- 26:43you're it. It'll rub in a different place
- 26:45and then you can switch back. So having having the two pairs
- 26:49to like alternate really does help an awful lot to keeping
- 26:52your feet happy. Or if they get wet and they
- 26:55haven't dried, because I've had that happen where they've gotten
- 26:59wet and I left them out to dry overnight and they were not dry
- 27:03in the morning. Yeah, that's happened.
- 27:05With my kids shoes because they want to splash in all the
- 27:08puddles and everything at Disney when it rains.
- 27:10And then we, you know, we've just like slowly just switching
- 27:13everybody to Crocs because it's just easier.
- 27:16A Kirk is over here saying, oh, right, yeah, wet shoes wear
- 27:19Crocs. And Stevie made a good point.
- 27:22She said that she changes them during her midday break too.
- 27:25So that's another option that you have for sure, But I've made
- 27:29that mistake with my kids too, not thinking about.
- 27:32Especially recently because they're at the age where they
- 27:35want to walk more than be in the stroller, but we still have the
- 27:39stroller because they're not completely ready to be done with
- 27:42it. So I don't always think about
- 27:45their walking shoes because I don't always anticipate how much
- 27:48they're going to walk. I have learned my lesson with
- 27:51that. But make sure that you are also
- 27:54thinking about your kids having two to three pairs of shoes with
- 27:57them as well. I know that's a good one.
- 28:01And Aaron saying resort hair dryer for wet shoes is a good
- 28:04option. I I have tried that.
- 28:07We try that in Paris because we had wet shoes and my OK, we're
- 28:12we're talking about mistakes. Make sure when you go to the
- 28:16airport for your month long vacation that your child is not
- 28:21wearing snow boots from. Last season in the car I was
- 28:28oops, I'm like what? Because I was anticipating her
- 28:30wearing her like tennis shoes to the airport and then her spare
- 28:33shoes were in her. I was like so she only ended up
- 28:36having one pair of shoes because she wore her snow boots into the
- 28:39car. We were not paying attention or
- 28:41I was like I got to the airport. I was like, what are you
- 28:43wearing? What are you wearing?
- 28:45I was like, it's OK, we have another pair of shoes.
- 28:49It's OK. It's OK.
- 28:51We're going to be fine. Good times.
- 28:54Motherhood. So anyway, shall we move on to
- 28:57other many ways? Yes, Yes, we shall.
- 29:04OK. So we've talked a little bit
- 29:06about kind of what to do before. So let's do a couple maybe that
- 29:11have to do with things during your trip.
- 29:15As far as that goes, one of the big ones that I feel like people
- 29:19maybe overlook or don't look enough into.
- 29:22Is they make the mistake of skipping the free virtual cues
- 29:27that Disney has to offer. It doesn't make sense to me
- 29:32unless you know that you're not going to ride it.
- 29:34Obviously that's a different story.
- 29:36But if you're someone that wants to ride Cosmic Rewind or wants
- 29:41to ride Tron at Disney World, why are we skipping?
- 29:48I think some people forget this. They forget or they don't know.
- 29:54I think that's usually why. But I agree, don't skip your
- 29:58free virtual queues. Get It's like a free lightning
- 30:01lane. Ish.
- 30:03Not really, because sometimes you have to wait a little bit
- 30:04longer, but right, it's sometimes it's sometimes it's
- 30:08the only way you can ride on those brand new attractions that
- 30:11come out right now. It's Cosmic and Tron and
- 30:13whatnot, but it'll be other rides probably in the future
- 30:18when they release new rides. So just check and see what
- 30:21virtual cues are available whenever you are going.
- 30:24And yeah, World of Color for Disneyland.
- 30:26I feel like so many people miss that.
- 30:29It happens every day at noon you can be in if you have a park
- 30:32hopper, you don't have to be in DCA.
- 30:34You do have to be past a gate to get into it.
- 30:37But you can be in Disneyland or you can be in DCA at noon.
- 30:40Get your World of Color ones. It'll just get you into a
- 30:42section where you have a decent view.
- 30:44So. But it's free, so do it.
- 30:48But I think the issue is that people, people are like, oh, I'm
- 30:51not going to use Genie Plus. So I don't need to wake up at
- 30:557:00 AM, no wake up and just literally set an alarm for 6:58.
- 31:02Wake up, get your virtual queue, go back to bed, go back to
- 31:06sleep. Yeah, unless you get that early
- 31:07boarding group that's always the worst.
- 31:09You're like you want to go back to sleep and it's like 4 in
- 31:11Group 10 and you're like, no, never mind.
- 31:16You're ready. And to make sure that you're in
- 31:19the park for the 1:00 PM, Like if you don't want to do 7:00 AM,
- 31:23plan for 1:00 PM if you know you're going to be there.
- 31:27Yeah, now that's good. Just just do it.
- 31:30Kitchener tool cues, even if you might not use it, just just go
- 31:33get it. I mean, obviously you have to be
- 31:35planning to go to that park to use it.
- 31:37But like, right, If you're like, I probably will do this or I
- 31:40might do this, just have the option to do it.
- 31:43Go get your virtual queues. Yeah.
- 31:46All righty, enough of the virtual queue soapbox.
- 31:51Another mistake that people make is they they don't check the My
- 31:57Disney Experience or Disneyland app out before their trip to see
- 32:01all the features that it has now, with a caveat that there's
- 32:05a lot of features on there that you probably won't need to
- 32:07access during your trip or there maybe you're just for fun, but
- 32:12there's a whole lot of things on there that are actually very,
- 32:15very helpful. There's news items, there's, you
- 32:17know, opening dates for the sorry opening times for the
- 32:21parks. There's lots of things that
- 32:22you're going to need to know and get comfortable with before you
- 32:25go so that you're aware of where everything is and you're not
- 32:28spending all that time in the park staring at your phone
- 32:30trying to figure out what to do. So.
- 32:34Or relying on someone else in your party hoping that maybe
- 32:36they know, you know there's so much, especially on those apps
- 32:40that you, that you can use in the parks to make it so much
- 32:44easier. We're going to talk a little bit
- 32:45about some of them later, but just even wait times.
- 32:49And so you're not walking around looking for the signs that they
- 32:53have because they're very limited in their locations where
- 32:55they have the signs with the wait times.
- 32:57Just have the app pull it out of your pocket.
- 33:01It's so much easier than having to walk across the park and
- 33:04figure out what the wait times are by looking at the signs.
- 33:07Yeah. And I would say, you know, I
- 33:09know there's a lot of people that are angry that they have to
- 33:11use so much technology on their trips so that they don't like
- 33:14looking at their phones and stuff.
- 33:15And I I get that. You know, I know that that's
- 33:17frustrating when you just want to try to disconnect from the
- 33:19world. I totally get that.
- 33:21But I will say there's a lot of things on there that are
- 33:23helpful, just like bathroom locations, locations of like
- 33:27fuel rod, charging stations, first aid, baby care, like
- 33:31they'll give you lots of options, showtimes for virtually
- 33:33everything. It's it really is a lot.
- 33:37Also food and all the menus. So like we like to look when
- 33:40we're standing in line, we'll pull up the menu from where
- 33:42we're going to eat and we'll decide what we want to eat and
- 33:44we'll, while we're doing our mobile order like it just is, is
- 33:46so much more helpful to be proficient in the language of
- 33:50those apps because it makes your trip a little easier and then
- 33:54you become an addict like us that are at home.
- 33:56But check the wait times, which is weird, but that's what we do
- 34:02fine. Speaking of kind of doing your
- 34:05research in advance, I think you also need to do you want to talk
- 34:08about this one? Yes, please Make sure you do at
- 34:13least some research on Genie Plus if you're planning on using
- 34:17it now, if you're going in to and you're like, Nope, we're not
- 34:19using it, I don't. I'm just going to wait, standby
- 34:22because we only have a short list of things we want to do.
- 34:24OK, that's totally fine. But if you're planning on using
- 34:27Genie Plus, please just do just just 20 minutes of research.
- 34:33Just read a couple blogs, listen to our podcast on Genie Plus.
- 34:37We did an entire episode on Genie Plus just to familiarize
- 34:41yourself. Even just like what Kate was
- 34:42mentioning, with the language around the whole system, knowing
- 34:46what a lightning lane is, knowing what an individual
- 34:48lightning lane is, your tipboard, wait times, All of
- 34:52that. Just being aware of the language
- 34:55itself. And just having at least a basic
- 34:57knowledge of how it works is super helpful to your trip.
- 35:01This is a mistake we see people making all the time with their
- 35:04trips. I see people at Disney making
- 35:07mistakes that they they walk up and they're like, I don't know
- 35:09what this line is for. What is this?
- 35:11How do I do this? And like they're asking the cast
- 35:13member at the like entrance of the Lightning lane and I'm like,
- 35:16oh Oh no, like. I feel had family message me.
- 35:22I have literally had family message me.
- 35:24Hey, we're in Magic Kingdom today.
- 35:26How do I work? Genie Plus Oh no.
- 35:30And I'm like, oh, and it's like 10:00 AM And I'm like like,
- 35:36well, OK. Well yes and I think that
- 35:41instance I was like can you just give me your login?
- 35:43I will just, I will make it work without explaining it.
- 35:48It's we will say that it is. It's a lot it's a lot of
- 35:51information. There's a lot of nuance to it.
- 35:53There's a lot of strategy to it. It's not a simple thing to do.
- 35:58I wish it was. I think we all wish it was, but
- 36:01it's not. And that's OK like because we
- 36:03can learn. It's your chance to get to
- 36:05educate yourself about GE Plus, Oh no, Aaron said.
- 36:11He booked his daughter a lightning light for a completely
- 36:13different time than the rest of us, which I guess is another
- 36:15mistake that you can make within Genie Plus, as if you don't
- 36:17assign all of your party together when you book it, you
- 36:21could end up. I could talk for two hours on
- 36:25mistakes that people make just on Genie.
- 36:27Plus, we should make that another episode, I think,
- 36:30because. Maybe I should maybe maybe I
- 36:33should add that to our list because I feel like I have a lot
- 36:36of experience. With mistakes that people make
- 36:39on Genie Plus. So I think you're right.
- 36:41We may need to add that to a future date for an episode.
- 36:46Yeah. And I would say that if you do
- 36:49make a mistake like that, where you book somebody, where you
- 36:53forget to book somebody with your party, go visit guest
- 36:56Relations and and tell them what happened, they know that this
- 36:59stuff happens. Obviously, don't abuse that, But
- 37:02if it's an honest mistake that you made, usually they can make
- 37:06it right, depending on what it is.
- 37:07But just go visit. Guest services or if you're
- 37:10having issues in the park linking family members together
- 37:13or any of that, just that's what they're there for, just go ask
- 37:19for help. Don't try to figure it out on
- 37:21your own. It's too much.
- 37:22If you're. If you don't know what you're
- 37:23doing, it's too much. Yeah.
- 37:26And so yeah, at this point in the podcast, I do want to say
- 37:30there's a lot. There's a lot.
- 37:32This is a lot of things we're not.
- 37:33We're only partially way through this list.
- 37:35We're going to keep moving through it, but I will say that
- 37:38these because we see either we have made these mistakes or
- 37:41we've seen other people make these mistakes often.
- 37:44So that's why we really want to do this episode because we don't
- 37:48want this for you guys. We're like go in knowing have
- 37:52the knowledge and the power to do it, to do it well.
- 37:56So on that note, shall we move on to our next one here?
- 38:01Yes, we talked about Genie Plus. Let's talk about how make sure
- 38:04that you plan enough park days, because that's a mistake people
- 38:08make is they think they will get more done in a day than they
- 38:12will and they don't plan enough days to see everything they want
- 38:16to see now with the caveat that you're probably not going to get
- 38:20to everything and that's OK, So, so don't put that pressure on
- 38:24yourself that that's a mistake. I think we also make, especially
- 38:27those of us out there, maybe type a planner type things and
- 38:30we're like, oh, I didn't check everything off my list.
- 38:32I didn't get to everything that we'd hoped for.
- 38:34You know, take a deep breath and recognize that that's OK, that
- 38:38you're not going to see everything.
- 38:39And unless you're spending, you know, solid 2 weeks at Walt
- 38:43Disney World or solid like week and 1/2 at Disneyland, you're
- 38:46probably not going to get to everything.
- 38:48You're going to get to what you want to see.
- 38:51And that's the goal. So Nick, do you want to add a
- 38:54little bit to that, Jackie? Yeah.
- 38:56And I think just also again, we talked about making those
- 38:59priority lists, if you look at your list for.
- 39:02Magic Kingdom is the prime example.
- 39:04If you look at your list or Magic Kingdom and you've got
- 39:06like 10 Must Do rides on there, you may want to consider a park
- 39:12hopper or adding, adding another day.
- 39:14At Magic Kingdom we talked about visiting during the holiday
- 39:17season, making sure you have enough days planned if you're
- 39:20visiting when it's going to be super busy when you're going.
- 39:23Just taking everything into consideration, making sure you
- 39:26have enough time to get everything done that is on your
- 39:29Must Do list and then you can go from there.
- 39:32So Speaking of making those lists and those priorities
- 39:37making, we often see people making the mistake of not doing
- 39:42the Big E ticket or your top priority rides at the beginning
- 39:46of your day or subsequently at the end of your day.
- 39:49If you've got a couple E tickets that you know you want to get
- 39:51done and you're not necessarily going to be using Genie Plus or
- 39:54you've got other plans that you know depending on your day.
- 39:57But I think it's so important to think about.
- 39:59Those big rides with those super long lines?
- 40:03Book ending your day with those and doing it at the very
- 40:06beginning, doing it at the very end, planning on getting in line
- 40:09right at park close, whatever works for your group, but having
- 40:13a plan for those and not trying to do them at 1:00 PM.
- 40:18Now that's super smart. I don't have anything to add to
- 40:21that, just BS. So one mistake that I've seen a
- 40:26lot of parents make only because they don't know that it exists
- 40:28is not using rider switch or baby swap, depending on what you
- 40:32want to call it. But this is a service, a free
- 40:35service that Disney provides. That is the ability for you to
- 40:39send an adult's. If you have a child or somebody
- 40:42who can't ride a big attraction, send one adult through the line
- 40:48and then when they come out the other person can go.
- 40:52I think it's up to three people with them.
- 40:54And then go through the line without like they go basically
- 40:59in the lighting lane. So they get to skip a lot of the
- 41:01wait so you don't have to wait twice.
- 41:03If you have say a baby or a small child that can't go on a
- 41:07roller coaster. So they Disney only makes you
- 41:10wait one time and you can bring other people with you so you
- 41:13don't have to ride alone just because you were the one that
- 41:15stayed out with the kiddo, right, Which I think is a
- 41:18wonderful service. So we've talked about this
- 41:20before and we won't go into huge detail about it, but I will say
- 41:23to use this service, go bring your child with you or the
- 41:27person with you and say, hey, can we use rider switch?
- 41:31And then ask the cast member who's at the beginning of the
- 41:33attraction and they'll tell you where to go, what to do, what to
- 41:36hand you to, to do it. They'll they'll figure that out
- 41:39for you. So.
- 41:41And Stevie does bring up a good point.
- 41:42You depending on the attraction will depend on whether or not
- 41:47that is an available service that they have.
- 41:50So something with a height requirement definitely has the
- 41:53ability to do rider swap. She asked about something like
- 41:56Peter Pan I have seen where if rides are dark and you've got a
- 42:01kiddo that's afraid of the dark, they will honor that for you.
- 42:04So just talk to the cast member at the at the entrance and
- 42:07they'll be able to let you know what they can do.
- 42:10And they set that up for you right before you even get in
- 42:13line. So don't get in line first.
- 42:15Talk to the cast member first. That way they can set you up
- 42:17with that depending on your your particular situation.
- 42:21Yeah, and usually they will. Usually they need to kind of see
- 42:24the child that is with you or the person that's with you, the
- 42:27reason why you have to do the switch, you know, So have them
- 42:30have them with you when you do that.
- 42:32But it is generally the E ticket, the big rides, the
- 42:35roller coasters, the ones that like have a height restriction.
- 42:39I agree. So let's talk a little bit about
- 42:40food. Our next couple ones are all
- 42:42about food planning so. A mistake that we see families
- 42:47often making is they're not planning out at least a little
- 42:51bit of their food options. They're leaving it till the last
- 42:54minute and they're just hangry, walking around trying to figure
- 42:58out what in the world we're going to eat, where are we,
- 43:01what's near us? What's going to work for us?
- 43:04That could also apply to bringing food or snacks in with
- 43:07you, so if you are hangry you can help that in the moment.
- 43:12But then we also talk about using mobile order as well.
- 43:15That all kind of gets wrapped into one because I feel like
- 43:17it's all super important to have an idea of a couple places that
- 43:21you might like to eat depending on where you are at the park and
- 43:24being able to navigate that mobile order on your My Disney
- 43:28Experience app or your Disneyland app to be able to
- 43:31expedite that process for your group.
- 43:34Yeah. And I will say, you know, not
- 43:35just snacks for the kids. You might have adults in your
- 43:38party, you know, with experience, get hangry and who
- 43:43may need said snack. So you know, have one in your
- 43:46bag just in case. Yep.
- 43:49Absolutely. And also kind of in in relation
- 43:55to that eating breakfast before you go into the parks or
- 43:58planning late morning brunch, you know we've talked about
- 44:01eating during non peak hours, things like that, so you don't
- 44:05miss those morning hours that we've talked about how?
- 44:09Crucial those are to be able to get your done and also planning
- 44:16where you want to eat like I mentioned, to make sure that
- 44:19it's close to where you are. So having two or three different
- 44:23options to make sure that you're not hangry going across the park
- 44:27grumpy because you're taking all those extra steps to get across
- 44:30the park to where you want to eat.
- 44:31Just avoid it all by having plan ABC.
- 44:36Yeah, like we could. I'd be happy eating at this
- 44:38place. This place or this place.
- 44:40Which one's closest to us right now.
- 44:42You know that that helps an awful lot.
- 44:45It's just the worst when you're all hungry.
- 44:47But you have to hike all the way across the park to get to your
- 44:50food. Like that's a long walk.
- 44:53Just say yes. Yes, and we.
- 44:55It's funny cuz like my husband and I literally just did this.
- 44:58We were trying to think about food options for.
- 45:01When we're in Magic Kingdom and we're like, well, we know that
- 45:04we've got this option, this option and this option.
- 45:07So wherever we are, that's going to be where we choose because
- 45:10it's, you know, just trying to figure out like, OK, I don't
- 45:13know where we're going to be in the park and when we're going to
- 45:16be hungry. So we'll just make a couple
- 45:18plans that's so smart on the the same idea of food Here we have a
- 45:25a mistake people make is this was actually from my husband, so
- 45:28kudos to him for remembering this one.
- 45:30Ordering full meals for everyone, including kids.
- 45:33I feel like every time we go on a Disney trip, the very first
- 45:36meal we sit down to, because we're so used to doing it
- 45:38everywhere else, we order a meal for everybody.
- 45:40Every kid gets a meal. Every adult gets a meal.
- 45:43And we quickly remember at Disney, oh right, our kids can't
- 45:47finish all of this food, especially if they're it's hot
- 45:50outside. Like they tend to just eat less
- 45:52general and sometimes we don't feel like eating as much either.
- 45:55So we've now learned that sometimes Elliot and I will
- 45:58split a meal and then get a dessert to share or an appetizer
- 46:02to share. And often our girls can share a
- 46:05kids meal between them. And then my son gets a a full
- 46:07meal as well. Like you know your kids at how
- 46:09much they can eat, but sometimes they might eat even less
- 46:12sometimes at Disney because they're hot or tired or
- 46:15whatever. So I would, you can always maybe
- 46:18get more food, especially at a quick service, unless it's one
- 46:22that you had to book way out and then, you know, just plan ahead.
- 46:25But I would say, you know, get a smaller amount of food than a
- 46:30meal for everybody and then see how much you eat.
- 46:32And if you're still hungry, you could maybe go get a dessert or
- 46:35a little snack or something, just to fill in the gaps,
- 46:37because then you're not wasting money on things that nobody's
- 46:40eating. And the majority of the parks,
- 46:42you're going to be able to fairly easily find something
- 46:45else to eat if 20 minutes after dinner your kiddo is complaining
- 46:49about being hungry. You're probably going to be able
- 46:52to find them something fairly quickly at the majority of the
- 46:55parks, so this is where popcorn comes in.
- 46:57Clutch right? Yes, Mickey bars and popcorn.
- 47:01You're at Disney. Absolutely, yeah.
- 47:03Or pretzels if you're me, because I will eat a Mickey
- 47:06Pretzels any day. Do you eat a lot of cheese?
- 47:10I can't remember Sometimes D-Day OK sometimes.
- 47:13Depends on my move. Or hate to cut a thing for the
- 47:15plastic cheese? Yeah, I don't mind it.
- 47:17My husband always judges me when I'm like, no, I don't want
- 47:19cheese. And he's like what?
- 47:21Like vanilla that. No, yeah, he yeah, he's just,
- 47:32I'm not a sauce person in general and like in that, in
- 47:36that regards, when you eat a pretzel, I feel like the cheese
- 47:39is kind of the sauce that goes with it.
- 47:41It's not crucial to the the snack in my personal opinion.
- 47:45Interesting. So I'm not.
- 47:47I just like, I don't. I'm not a sauce person.
- 47:49I know. I just.
- 47:50I'm also very, very picky so that also you know that I, you
- 47:55know it's strict. Anyway, enough about my eating
- 47:59habits. Let's go back to let's go back
- 48:03to the next mistake that we see families making when they are
- 48:08visiting. Disney is not planning or
- 48:12anticipating a break when your party needs one.
- 48:16So this could apply to little kids that need a nap break in
- 48:20the afternoon. This could apply to bigger kids
- 48:23that just need some time to chill out and not be walking or
- 48:28waiting or standing. This could apply to the adults
- 48:31in your party that cannot go all day in the parks.
- 48:34And that's totally fine. It is what it is.
- 48:36But pushing your family to do one more ride when everyone is
- 48:40just done is just not worth it. Save it till you come back.
- 48:46Take your nap first. You will be much better off
- 48:51doing that one last ride when you come back, you know, And I
- 48:55feel like this does apply also to shows and stuff.
- 49:00If your kids are really exhausted and then you want us
- 49:03like, Oh well, we got to go see Fantasmic.
- 49:05We got to go see something, You know, I feel like I this is a
- 49:09mistake I made as a mom, as I. My son was tired and we were at
- 49:12Disneyland, where you have to stand for Fantasmic.
- 49:15They make you stand up. He could not stand up.
- 49:18He was exhausted. And so he hates Fantasmic.
- 49:21He hates it. He doesn't ever want to see it
- 49:23again because his memory is of like cast members, like yelling
- 49:26at everybody to stand up when he was tired.
- 49:29And you know, and I'm like, well, that's a, that's that's a
- 49:31bummer, you know, like that that he has that memory.
- 49:34Not that they were yelling directly at him, you know, but
- 49:36it's just like everybody, like you have to get up.
- 49:38You have to get up. And he's like, I don't want to
- 49:40get up. I'm tired.
- 49:41I don't want to be here. And I felt awful afterwards.
- 49:44I'm like, I should have just like let him go and maybe be do
- 49:48something else, you know, with with one of us could have gone
- 49:50with him and done something else or sat down or just gone back
- 49:52early so you don't push your kids when they're exhausted
- 49:56because their memories of that are not going to be magical.
- 49:58I'll just say that maybe it might be something else.
- 50:03Yeah, I mean, my daughter slept through Harmonious in the
- 50:08stroller. So yeah, it it happens.
- 50:12And she was fine up until, like the show started.
- 50:17And then I looked over and she was asleep.
- 50:19And I was like, yeah, that's what happened to almost all my
- 50:23kids when they were little. For those shows.
- 50:25They're just tired by the end of the day, and they're done.
- 50:27And if they can sleep in the stroller, then let them sleep.
- 50:30You know, don't wake them up. Just just let them.
- 50:31Right. That's Nope.
- 50:32That's OK That'll also say, advocate for yourself, not just
- 50:35your kids, too. Well, if you're really tired and
- 50:38you've reached the end of what you're capable of and you need a
- 50:41nap or a break or to call it a day, just don't say like, oh,
- 50:47but I didn't get to this and this and this and this.
- 50:49Just say look at all the wonderful things I did today.
- 50:52And now I'm going to go rest and enjoy rest.
- 50:55And I think it's giving ourselves permission to not do
- 50:58it all and to just go rest. I've I walked out of Disneyland
- 51:02like right as the shows were starting, all the fireworks
- 51:05shows were starting, and I was like, I'm tired.
- 51:07I'm not. I don't.
- 51:08I I I feel like I should stay and watch this show, but I want
- 51:11to leave because I'm exhausted and it's OK to do that.
- 51:15Nobody's saying you have to stay.
- 51:18And I've got several people over here advocating for adult nap
- 51:23time at Disney when you go. And I agree.
- 51:27Even when my husband and I used to go before we had kids, we
- 51:30always took an afternoon break from like 2:00 to 4:00 or five
- 51:35because it was like, we're tired and we want to stay up and stay
- 51:39till the end. Because we knew that we wanted
- 51:40to see fireworks or the park was open until midnight or whatever
- 51:44it was. And it's like I'm going to need
- 51:45a nap. If we.
- 51:47If we're going to do that, there's no shame in the nap.
- 51:49Naps are great. No naps.
- 51:51You get like Gold Star. If you go take a break and take
- 51:53a nap for me, I'll give you a Gold Star.
- 51:59Yeah. And Aaron's saying I'm bad at
- 52:00pushing myself and others if we don't have a predetermined break
- 52:03time. Right.
- 52:03So having that pre planned, like we're going to take a break at
- 52:082:00 PM, one PM, 3:00 PM, whatever it is for you.
- 52:11They say this is the time we're headed back to the hotel.
- 52:14Like, I'm always guilty of pushing it back.
- 52:16I'm like, oh, but we'll do 330 is that?
- 52:17No, just go for your break and then you can come back to say
- 52:21it. Anyway, enough about break time.
- 52:24Shall we move on to our next one?
- 52:27Yes. I think we should.
- 52:29So this is a mistake so many people make because they just
- 52:34underestimate how long it takes to get places.
- 52:37So a mistake they make is not giving yourself enough time to
- 52:41get to your Disney destination via Disney transportation or
- 52:46even driving, but especially Disney transportation.
- 52:50I say I give it the 90 minute rule and people think that some
- 52:53some people have told me like that's a little extreme.
- 52:55I was like like one hour. Usually you can get almost
- 52:58anywhere in an hour, usually, but sometimes there's
- 53:01extenuating circumstances where you have to wait for two or
- 53:04three buses or something breaks down or something happens and
- 53:09you end up having to go with Plan B and you just give
- 53:12yourself 90 minutes to get to wherever you need to go on
- 53:14Disney property. This is Disney World,
- 53:16specifically Disneyland, obviously not Disney Disneyland.
- 53:20I'm like 5 minutes to walk there.
- 53:22I'm good. But Disney World give yourself a
- 53:26lot of time because it takes way more time than you think it does
- 53:29to get anywhere, especially if it's crowded at any given time.
- 53:34Yeah. And we were totally guilty of
- 53:35this. My son's first trip because it
- 53:37was our first trip with kids. And thinking about that
- 53:39afternoon nap, you know, we'd always taken a break, but it was
- 53:41never on a schedule. It didn't really matter.
- 53:44And it was one of those things where we got to, like, a little
- 53:47bit before his nap time. And it was like, OK, let's go
- 53:49back. But it was like, we got to the
- 53:51room an hour after his nap time should have started.
- 53:54And it was just like, Oh yeah, he's falling apart.
- 53:56OK, tomorrow we're going to do this differently.
- 53:59Yeah. It's really easy to be like,
- 54:01especially. Push everything back for the
- 54:04rest of the night. It's like, well, you know, it is
- 54:06what it is. Yeah.
- 54:08And you adopt and stuff. But I mean, it's right.
- 54:10If you have a dining reservation, you have to get to
- 54:13like leave time to get to that. If you have a specific show you
- 54:16need to see at a specific time, leave extra time for that
- 54:20because you're going to get there and it's going to be
- 54:21really crowded. You know, just it takes way more
- 54:24time than you think. It needs to get anywhere and
- 54:26just put that in your brain and then just plan accordingly.
- 54:30And then you won't be also frustrated when it does take a
- 54:32long time to get somewhere. You'll maybe be early, which
- 54:35will be great. Hooray, you'll be pleasantly
- 54:38surprised when you arrive on time or early, yes?
- 54:42OK, so moving on to, gosh, we are on #21 already and I'll take
- 54:48this one Kate, so you don't have to with your recent experience.
- 54:53Still traumatized? Hopping back to before your
- 54:57trip? Just.
- 55:00Don't forget to make your final payment on your Disney vacation.
- 55:04No matter what you're going to do, whether you're doing a
- 55:09Disneyland, Disney World, Disneyland Paris, just don't
- 55:13forget, hypothetically, cake that final payment because
- 55:21Disney will cancel your reservation.
- 55:26Yeah, the last. One of us knows that from
- 55:28experience and don't depend on Disney to e-mail you and remind
- 55:34you about your payments, because it might go to your spam folder
- 55:38and you might not see it and you might be very sad.
- 55:44Yeah, and you might pay a very, very expensive last minute
- 55:46reservation. All hypothetical, of course.
- 55:51Oh, very hypothetical. And I will just mention that if
- 55:56you have a. Package booked.
- 56:00It is for Disney World and land I think both 30 days out.
- 56:08I think so that you have to pay your your total amount due.
- 56:12If you have a room only reservation that is due at check
- 56:18in and that one is a little more lenient 'cause they just charge
- 56:22it to whatever card you have on file pay.
- 56:25Make your payment right on your calendar.
- 56:26Set a reminder. Don't don't forget anyway.
- 56:32Anyway, moving on, I will say a mistake that I have made
- 56:39personally is staying at a deluxe resort at Disney
- 56:43specifically, but not scheduling enough downtime to really enjoy
- 56:48that resort. So we've stayed at, we've stayed
- 56:51at Riviera, we've stayed at the Grand Floridian, we've stayed at
- 56:55Animal Kingdom Lodge. Oh gosh, what the Polynesian
- 56:59like. We've stayed a lot of these
- 57:00wonderful resorts, usually because we rent DVC points and
- 57:02that makes them half price because I can't afford full
- 57:05price for any of those. But but we've made the mistake
- 57:09of not having any time to really enjoy it.
- 57:12The pool, the atmosphere, the events.
- 57:14A lot of these resorts have events that happen throughout
- 57:18the day. They have special things that
- 57:19you can go to just enjoying the atmosphere.
- 57:22The food like Animal Kingdom Lodge is some of the best food
- 57:25on property, but if all of your plans are out of the parks, you
- 57:29miss out on really enjoying that resort.
- 57:31So plan You know if you have a day in the middle of your trip
- 57:35that you can plan to just be a resort day and just relax and
- 57:38enjoy it. That's my recommendation for
- 57:40that. Yeah.
- 57:42And honestly, that's the reason why we typically stay at the
- 57:46value resorts because we, we just prefer to not do that.
- 57:51If I'm being we, we prefer to, we prefer to be in the parks.
- 57:56So I I don't need to stay at a deluxe resort because I'm not
- 58:02going to take advantage of all the amenities and activities and
- 58:06things that they have. So keeping all of that in mind,
- 58:09yes. Also making just smart decisions
- 58:11about where you want to stay. Yeah.
- 58:15And I will say that if you just need like a really clean and
- 58:19updated and nice like just a place to shower and like sleep
- 58:23like. So some of those value resorts
- 58:25now that they've been renovated are actually decent options,
- 58:27especially Pop Century because it's right there on the
- 58:30Skylighter line. The theming at the resort makes
- 58:35my I I can't. But the rooms themselves are
- 58:39great. So I want to say that that's a
- 58:45really great option for you to if you want to save money, but
- 58:47you still want to have a really nice room to stay in and you're
- 58:51not going to be there that much. I wouldn't necessarily recommend
- 58:54a deluxe resort if you were not planning to be in it at all,
- 58:56because it that you know, even Animal Kingdom Lodge is such a
- 58:59cool experience, but you got to be in your in your resort to
- 59:03enjoy it. So but yeah, I will say what?
- 59:06Waking up to giraffe giraffes outside your window is one of
- 59:08the coolest things we've ever done as a family.
- 59:10I mean you have that's pretty, that's pretty neat.
- 59:14That's great. It's pretty great.
- 59:17Yeah. All right.
- 59:19Moving on our next item. On our list of mistakes that we
- 59:24see families make at Disney is not having a general plan for
- 59:28the day and then expecting to get a lot done.
- 59:30So we touched on this a little bit earlier about having your
- 59:34priority list and you know not being stuck in the what do you
- 59:37want to do, what do you want to do?
- 59:38I don't know type of thing, but expecting to get a lot done when
- 59:43you don't have that can lead to some frustrated people in your
- 59:49travel party and. Being spontaneous is fine, but
- 59:55you need to be realistic about the spontaneity of your trip if
- 59:59that's what you're choosing to do, because it could mean a lot
- 1:00:03more waiting, it could mean a lot less of your list that you
- 1:00:06are going to accomplish. So just knowing how you want to
- 1:00:11to work all of that going into it is such a big help.
- 1:00:16Yeah, no, I agree. And it's AI, you know, I hear.
- 1:00:21I overhear a lot of things, not because I'm trying to be, but
- 1:00:24when I travel solo, I hear a lot of things that are around me,
- 1:00:27OK? Like I'm, I don't have anything
- 1:00:29else to listen to. I'm listening to the Disney
- 1:00:30music and stuff, But like, I'm hearing people talk around me
- 1:00:33because you just do. And I'm hearing.
- 1:00:35I hear so many people that are, like, yelling at members of
- 1:00:38their family, families and like every line is 60 minutes and Oh
- 1:00:41my gosh, like they're like, they're so mad that everything
- 1:00:44is such a long wait. And I'm like, that's a family.
- 1:00:47It didn't probably have a plan that doesn't know how to use
- 1:00:50Genie Plus. And I hear it so often and it
- 1:00:53breaks my heart because I'm like, if you have a plan and you
- 1:00:56or you know how to use Genie Plus or a combination of those
- 1:00:59two, you won't run into that situation where you're waiting
- 1:01:0260 minutes for every ride. You just won't.
- 1:01:05But that's what happens when you don't know what you're doing.
- 1:01:08And then you go into the situation and then you're angry
- 1:01:10about it. And it just makes for a really
- 1:01:12sad trip experience. I was like, that could have been
- 1:01:14easily avoided. Just a little bit of planning,
- 1:01:17just a little middle school about planning.
- 1:01:20So just. Just a tiny little bit.
- 1:01:22Well, and you made a good point in our notes here, being about
- 1:01:25being cautious about over planning to you.
- 1:01:27You have to find that happy medium between planning enough
- 1:01:30and not over planning and that can be tricky to do.
- 1:01:33But I think that's why we've talked about that priority list.
- 1:01:37It's so important to get the top priority from everyone.
- 1:01:40And the way that my family does it is so like we have like 3
- 1:01:43tiers of our list kind of that we make.
- 1:01:45Because I feel like, again, it's it's managing those expectations
- 1:01:48so that people know what is going to happen in your day.
- 1:01:54Yeah. And I think that it's for those
- 1:01:56of us who love to plan and who have, you know, a year to plan
- 1:01:59our Disney vacation, sometimes we want to schedule everything
- 1:02:02almost down to the minute of like here's where we'll do
- 1:02:05everything, you know. And it can feel very frustrating
- 1:02:07when you get off of your schedule or you're not like what
- 1:02:11you haven't accomplished as much as you would hope to.
- 1:02:13And it's like, you know, just remember, it's supposed to be a
- 1:02:16vacation. I know that Disney's a lot of
- 1:02:18planning and it's a lot to put together and you really feel
- 1:02:20accomplished when you have that plan in place.
- 1:02:22But it's OK to take those extra moments for, you know,
- 1:02:27spontaneous re rides of rides that people just really loved
- 1:02:30and want to go on again. Or some unexpected, unexpected
- 1:02:34magic with some character sightings or cow the kid that
- 1:02:36comes by. Take a deep breath and be like
- 1:02:38this is what Disney is all about.
- 1:02:39It's not about the moments that you plan, but the moments to
- 1:02:42just kind of happen that are magical.
- 1:02:45So keep that in mind as you go that planning is important, but
- 1:02:49it's not everything doesn't make or break your vacation
- 1:02:53necessarily. Yeah.
- 1:02:55Yeah, yes. And I think that perfectly
- 1:02:57segues into the next point. If you want to take that one for
- 1:03:01us, Kate, because I think you've done a lovely job.
- 1:03:03You love explaining all of this. Yeah.
- 1:03:06And we kind of touched on it earlier too, where try not to do
- 1:03:10everything And, you know, and I I think my, our friend Kirk from
- 1:03:14Walrus Carp, I was with him and his lovely wife in Disneyland,
- 1:03:18you know, and I'm the inner park nerd in me.
- 1:03:21The Disney historian in me was just like, no, but you didn't
- 1:03:24see this and you didn't see this and you didn't see this.
- 1:03:26And he's like, he's like got something for next time.
- 1:03:28I was like, gosh, that's such a healthy perspective.
- 1:03:31It's like we have to think about it that way more often, you
- 1:03:35know? Of course I just want him to see
- 1:03:36everything because he's my friend.
- 1:03:37And I was like, you should see all these amazing things.
- 1:03:39But truthfully, try not to do everything.
- 1:03:43There's going to be things that you don't get to, and that's OK.
- 1:03:45I'll give you a reason to come back.
- 1:03:47Or maybe it's just you just weren't meant to get to those
- 1:03:49things, and that's OK too. Just focus on what you did do
- 1:03:52that you loved as a family, and that's enough.
- 1:03:56I think our next one kind of goes hand in hand with that a
- 1:03:58little bit because I feel like when you've got that list and
- 1:04:01you want to be someone who was a box checker like Kate and I both
- 1:04:04are families that don't we're we're working on it.
- 1:04:12But families that don't take advantage of those early morning
- 1:04:15hours we see that happen a lot. And this is something that if
- 1:04:19you have listened to Mom St., you have heard us talk about
- 1:04:21probably 50 times. But.
- 1:04:25Lower crowds in the morning make it so much easier to accomplish
- 1:04:30the things that are on your list.
- 1:04:33And Kate made a good point too in our notes here that the
- 1:04:35weather is typically better in the early morning if you're
- 1:04:39expecting it to be, you know, 95 in the Florida heat.
- 1:04:43If you can get some rides in before 10:00 AM, you're going to
- 1:04:46have the best weather before it gets to be blazing hot.
- 1:04:50So having the ability to run through quite a few rides before
- 1:04:54the parks get really, really crazy is so crucial.
- 1:04:58And so many families miss out on that.
- 1:05:01Yeah. And it's it's hard.
- 1:05:02It's hard to get everybody up super early in the morning.
- 1:05:05Like my Disney mornings. I'm up at like five, 5:30 in the
- 1:05:08morning. I'm not a morning person, but I
- 1:05:11get my get myself out of bed and I get myself ready.
- 1:05:14And then you get all your kids ready.
- 1:05:15You know, like, I usually wake up my kids after I'm almost all
- 1:05:18the way ready, so I can just help them get ready.
- 1:05:21But so we. Yeah, so we can get out the
- 1:05:23door. And also, you can focus on
- 1:05:25getting yourself ready, because it's impossible when everybody's
- 1:05:27like, where's my socks? And you're all in the room all
- 1:05:31together because, like you're used to, you know, in your
- 1:05:33house, everyone has their own space.
- 1:05:35You don't always have that when you stay at a Disney resort.
- 1:05:37So no, it's always like, I'm glad that Disney, a lot of their
- 1:05:40rooms, even the values and moderates have like, at least
- 1:05:43sliding doors or curtains that will block off the bathroom.
- 1:05:46So you can try to, like, be in that vanity space getting ready.
- 1:05:49I think that's really helpful. But I will say one of my This is
- 1:05:54a big pet peeve of mine, and it's OK.
- 1:05:56I want to say it's OK if you are one of these people that this is
- 1:05:59what you do at Disney, then great, That's good for you and
- 1:06:04that's what you want to do at Disney.
- 1:06:05Do it. And don't take this as a
- 1:06:06criticism, please, but one of my biggest pet peeves is people
- 1:06:11that wake up early to go to like the Magic Hours, the extra
- 1:06:15resort Magic Time in the morning.
- 1:06:18And then they don't go on the rides that are open and instead
- 1:06:22they stand in line at Starbucks. And I'm like, what are you doing
- 1:06:27with your life? Like, why did you wake up early?
- 1:06:30And I get it. I get it.
- 1:06:32I get it. I used to work in coffee.
- 1:06:34I worked at Seattle's Best in Seattle and Starbucks.
- 1:06:37I understand the coffee fix. I understand.
- 1:06:39I get it. However, that time is so
- 1:06:43critical you can get so many rides done that you would have
- 1:06:46to wait hours for later in the day.
- 1:06:49It is not the time to stand in line now when the crowds come in
- 1:06:52at like 1010 thirty they all start coming in the and if all
- 1:06:56the wait times go up then go get your coffee because then people
- 1:06:59are not waiting in line as much. There you can have a really
- 1:07:02wonderful mid morning coffee, relax, sit down at a table and
- 1:07:06know you're not missing out on a thing because the lines have
- 1:07:08gotten really long. So yes, don't rope drop coffee
- 1:07:12off my soapbox now. Something that we have done in
- 1:07:20your Starbucks mug. Just realized how ironic that
- 1:07:24is. I'm drinking out of a Starbucks
- 1:07:26mug. As I just said, don't I love
- 1:07:27that? Something that we have done at
- 1:07:30Magic Kingdom that was helpful is we were rope dropping 7
- 1:07:35dwarves and while we were in line once we knew kind of when
- 1:07:40we were going to get off the ride we mobile ordered they have
- 1:07:43a cold brew at Friar's Nook. So we mobile ordered it while we
- 1:07:46were in line and then swung by picked it up and walked right to
- 1:07:51our next thing so it we didn't have to wait in line.
- 1:07:54If you don't need an option that Starbucks offer.
- 1:07:57Now I understand there are allergies and preferences and
- 1:08:00things like that that maybe Starbucks has that nowhere else
- 1:08:02in the park has. However, if you are someone that
- 1:08:05can get coffee at an alternate location, keep that in mind that
- 1:08:09there are. Lots of other alternative
- 1:08:12locations where you can get coffee.
- 1:08:13You don't have to go to Main Street, Starbucks.
- 1:08:16Yeah. And I, you know, and I don't
- 1:08:18necessarily advocate for coffee in your room, but I'll say like
- 1:08:21if you just need coffee, like have some coffee in your room
- 1:08:23and then get some mid morning if you want like a nicer one, I
- 1:08:26would do that. And yes, there are a lot of
- 1:08:29other options of places to get coffee as well.
- 1:08:30So that's that's a great point. We usually do Starbucks when
- 1:08:34we're coming back in from our afternoon break for our evening.
- 1:08:38And we'll hit it then, and we'll just do like a Joffrey's or
- 1:08:41coffee from the room or whatever in the morning.
- 1:08:43So there's lots, there's lots of options.
- 1:08:46Just don't rope drop Starbucks or you'll make Kate's eye
- 1:08:49twitch. That's what you want to do with
- 1:08:54your go ahead anyway. This is something that we've
- 1:09:00talked about and this is something that we actually have
- 1:09:02a lovely guide that can help you with not paying.
- 1:09:07For water in the parks, there are tons of places in every park
- 1:09:14that you can get free water or bringing your own water bottle.
- 1:09:19You can refill it with lots of lots and lots of different
- 1:09:22options. If you need a map, we have those
- 1:09:24available on our Instagram page in one of our highlight reels
- 1:09:28saved for you all to be able to screenshot and have to access
- 1:09:32those park maps with the water locations on them paying for
- 1:09:36water. Just just don't do it.
- 1:09:38You really don't need to. But also along with that, don't
- 1:09:41forget to drink the water that you have in the parks.
- 1:09:45That is also very crucial to survival in your Disney trip.
- 1:09:52You need more water than you think you do.
- 1:09:55Drink more than you ever would at any other place.
- 1:09:58That's that's how I do Disney. I drink way more water at Disney
- 1:10:01than anywhere else. Yeah, me too.
- 1:10:04That's that's the wise way to think of it.
- 1:10:06And yeah, so a lot of people are like, oh, but I don't want like
- 1:10:10fountain water and stuff. Well, we, we put on those guides
- 1:10:13specifically places where you can go and get like fountain,
- 1:10:16you know, not water fountain, but like the fountain drinks
- 1:10:19like sodas and stuff. They have the water tab on there
- 1:10:21where it's really ice cold and wonderful and filtered, which is
- 1:10:25important for both LA and Florida.
- 1:10:27It's better tasting. So we do have those options on
- 1:10:30there so that you can refill your water bottle in a place
- 1:10:33that gives you water you actually want to drink.
- 1:10:35And I will say yes, that this was, this was something when I
- 1:10:39traveled with somebody in the parks one and they just insisted
- 1:10:44on buying bottled water every single time.
- 1:10:46And I was like keeping like a mental tab of like how much that
- 1:10:48cost. And I was like it was like
- 1:10:51almost $100 by the end of the day.
- 1:10:53And I was like on water, water bottles.
- 1:10:55And I was like crazy. But and you know, it clearly
- 1:10:59wasn't a big deal to them. So if your financial situation,
- 1:11:01you just want to get a cold bottle of water, you know you do
- 1:11:04you. But I probably wouldn't spend my
- 1:11:07money on that when I could spend it on a lot of other things.
- 1:11:10So just say. And I do know of people that
- 1:11:13maybe would purchase one at the beginning of their day and then
- 1:11:17refill that water bottle. I get it.
- 1:11:19Like if you forget yours at home and you want to have 1:00 to be
- 1:11:22able to carry around with you, then buy one at the beginning of
- 1:11:24the day. But don't continue to buy it
- 1:11:26after that. You can just refill that bottle
- 1:11:29that you bought at 8:00 AM and you'll be perfectly OK.
- 1:11:32I promise. Yes.
- 1:11:35Next up, mistakes that families make at Disney.
- 1:11:38One is going open to close multiple days without rest.
- 1:11:43This is a mistake that I have made.
- 1:11:45I have since learned to balance myself a little bit better.
- 1:11:49And I will say, we've mentioned this before, but day three is
- 1:11:52always the hardest day of your trip.
- 1:11:54I don't know what it is about day three.
- 1:11:55Day day one, you have all the excitement, energy, adrenaline,
- 1:11:58You're ready to go. You're excited.
- 1:12:00Day 2, you start to get a little bit tired, but you're still,
- 1:12:03like, excited to be there. Day three, it's like everybody's
- 1:12:06just like, done. Everybody is crabbier.
- 1:12:10Everybody's tired. Everything hurts, you know, like
- 1:12:13you're just like you're exhausted.
- 1:12:14So know that day three is coming.
- 1:12:17Either plan a rest day or a sleep in morning or something.
- 1:12:21That makes it more restful for you, knowing that that day is
- 1:12:24going to be harder because you're really, really, really
- 1:12:27exhausted because your body's probably, unless you're like a
- 1:12:31marathoner, you're probably not used to doing 10 to 14 miles a
- 1:12:34day. Or at least everybody in your
- 1:12:36party isn't, you know, I don't know.
- 1:12:39And out in the sun and with the crowds and with the many food
- 1:12:42you're not used to eating. It's just the hard on your body.
- 1:12:45Even if I sometimes I just take a break when I'm in the parks
- 1:12:48and I'll just like find a place to kind of rest and and sit down
- 1:12:52for a long time in the AC and, you know, just an hour of
- 1:12:55sitting down feels like an hour in my resort if I don't feel
- 1:12:58like going all the way back to my resort.
- 1:13:00But yes, just be careful. Be conscious of what your body's
- 1:13:04telling you, because that's still important even if you're
- 1:13:07on vacation. Yes, that's all.
- 1:13:10Yes, And even if you are an adult visiting the parks without
- 1:13:13kids and you don't think you need to take a nap, you still
- 1:13:16may need a break. Something that is very important
- 1:13:21and actually ties into the conversation we were having
- 1:13:24about hair before we started recording our podcast, Kirk
- 1:13:27said. Wasn't relevant.
- 1:13:29Excuse me, but here we are. We want to caution families to
- 1:13:37not forget hair ties, hair clips, hair brushes, things that
- 1:13:43you need in the parks especially because.
- 1:13:48You may want to wear your hair down, and the weather may be
- 1:13:51nice to wear your hair down. But then you go to get on cosmic
- 1:13:53rewind and your hair will end up covering your entire face.
- 1:13:57So true. So even if you have them with
- 1:14:03you, take them into the park with you.
- 1:14:06Make sure you have at least one Throw it on, Throw it on your
- 1:14:10wrist. I always have one on my wrist.
- 1:14:11Throw it in your park bag. Whatever you need to do.
- 1:14:14Have one with you at all times. Yeah, I mean the both in
- 1:14:19Disneyland and Disney World, humidity has happened to my
- 1:14:22hair, where suddenly it's like Monica Geller when she's like,
- 1:14:25her hair is like out to here. You know, I'm funny, but it gets
- 1:14:27that Friends reference. But that happens to me sometimes
- 1:14:30and I'm like, wow, like I have to put my hair up.
- 1:14:32Sometimes I use like a hair, not just a hair tie, but a hair like
- 1:14:37a what are they called like a hair stick like that?
- 1:14:39I'll just weave through like a bun.
- 1:14:41I don't recommend going on like E ticket rides with that because
- 1:14:44it could loosen up, but it's easier on your hair than a hair
- 1:14:46tie. So if you wanted to protect your
- 1:14:48hair a little bit, yeah, I'm sorry I opened.
- 1:14:51I opened a sad can of worms with mentioning friends.
- 1:14:53So I'm sorry. Sorry for all of that.
- 1:14:57We are all very sad about that news that happened this week.
- 1:15:00But yes, don't forget your hair. And sometimes I put extra, like
- 1:15:04Bobby pins in my bag so that if, especially if I have done put my
- 1:15:10hair up in it, something and something's just looking funky.
- 1:15:14Halfway through the day, I'll put my pins in and I do take a
- 1:15:17tiny little mini hair brush. If I leave my hair down, I take
- 1:15:19a little tiny mini hair brush with me into the parks.
- 1:15:22But yeah, I've made the mistake of not doing that.
- 1:15:24Then I had to put my hair up because it looked awful midday.
- 1:15:27So yeah. Yeah, well, I my, I mean, both
- 1:15:30of us have such long hair that I will, even if I pull my hair
- 1:15:34back. After I get off those fast E
- 1:15:36ticket rides, I have to pull my hair brush out to brush it
- 1:15:40through because my hair will get so tangled that by the end of
- 1:15:42the day it will be painful. So I have to take a hair brush
- 1:15:46in with me even if I don't have my hair completely down.
- 1:15:49But just having having the ability to braid your hair
- 1:15:52quickly or throw it in a ponytail or get it out of your
- 1:15:55way off your face, off your neck, all of those options, you
- 1:15:59want to make sure you have the ability to do that.
- 1:16:02So another and the mistake that I've seen, I have, I have done
- 1:16:06this myself honestly and I've seen other people do it, but
- 1:16:09taking more than you need to carry.
- 1:16:10I'm a notorious Oprah Packer. But this is mostly if you don't
- 1:16:14have a stroller. I feel like if you have a
- 1:16:16stroller, take the things, take everything that you think you'll
- 1:16:19need. Just do it.
- 1:16:19It's not going to hurt anything like.
- 1:16:21You know, take the I will, I will say the caveat of that that
- 1:16:25though is realize that if you're taking a bus.
- 1:16:29You have to be able to hold the items and fold the stroller to
- 1:16:33be able to get get in and on the bus with the child too.
- 1:16:39So you've got to make sure that like one person can hold all
- 1:16:43your stuff and the kid while the other person holds the stroller
- 1:16:46to get on the bus. So yeah, you have to make sure
- 1:16:48that you can physically carry everything you put in the
- 1:16:50stroller, but maybe not long distance for it could have a
- 1:16:54stroller, so right. But I this was another one that
- 1:16:57came from my husband because he was like, don't take like
- 1:17:00everything. And I think it's because he
- 1:17:01watches me do it. I was like thanks, working like
- 1:17:05you know. Holding everything when no one
- 1:17:07else wants to hold it, He just he wears his cargo shorts and
- 1:17:11puts his water bottle as cargo shirts and like, more power to
- 1:17:14you, buddy. Like I have to have a backpack
- 1:17:16or something. But but yeah, no, you know,
- 1:17:20think about what you absolutely need.
- 1:17:21Think about what maybe you can get in the park if you need it.
- 1:17:25You know that small? I wouldn't.
- 1:17:27I would say you still should probably pack some sunscreen, a
- 1:17:29small one at least, and things like that.
- 1:17:31Just because those are really expensive.
- 1:17:35Yeah, to get. But yeah, don't.
- 1:17:37Don't take more than you need to carry.
- 1:17:39Because sometimes, especially if it's hot out and you have a
- 1:17:41massive backpack full of stuff, you're just going to your back
- 1:17:44is going to be just wet all day. Which is so close but true,
- 1:17:47yeah. It is so true.
- 1:17:49Been there, done that, not fun. And Speaking of strollers or non
- 1:17:53strollers, another mistake that we have seen families make is
- 1:17:57leaving valuables in your stroller.
- 1:18:01You may be at the happiest place on earth or the most magical
- 1:18:04place on earth, but people will still help themselves to your
- 1:18:09valuables if they are not on your body, on your person and
- 1:18:13safely away from where people can grab them.
- 1:18:16So. My favorite hack that I always
- 1:18:18do that I've talked about before is I put our non valuables in a
- 1:18:21bag that does stay in the stroller and then all of our
- 1:18:24valuables stay on me and my bag. So that way it doesn't get left
- 1:18:27behind and there's no no risk of it being misplaced or taken.
- 1:18:34Yeah, that's such a smart tip. I think it's very easy to get
- 1:18:39lulled into that sense of like, oh, this is like, this is a
- 1:18:42magical place and everybody paid to get in here.
- 1:18:44And so it's a safe place. And I'm like, yes, Disney does
- 1:18:47do many, many things to make you very safe.
- 1:18:50And they have eyes everywhere, everywhere.
- 1:18:52So that's great. And I'm really happy that they
- 1:18:55have that. However, they can't do, they
- 1:18:59can't protect everything all the time.
- 1:19:01So just like, think, imagine if you were walking down the
- 1:19:03streets of New York or Paris, Would you leave your stroller
- 1:19:07parked on the side with like all your valuable stuff?
- 1:19:10You wouldn't. So just keep that in mind.
- 1:19:12It's just the population is there and it could get stolen.
- 1:19:15And Aaron also says so the squirrels, they'll eat things
- 1:19:18out of here. That is also true.
- 1:19:21That is also very, very true. Do not leave food in your
- 1:19:25stroller because it will be. It will be gone.
- 1:19:28The squirrels will take it and it's really sad.
- 1:19:32Like, I've even heard people being pickpocketed at Disney.
- 1:19:35It doesn't happen that often, but I have heard of it
- 1:19:38happening. So you know, just a general
- 1:19:41awareness that you are in a place with other people and not
- 1:19:45all people make great decisions. There's going to be a certain
- 1:19:48percentage of the population that's there that might do
- 1:19:51something like that. So just be aware of your
- 1:19:54surroundings and your possessions at all times.
- 1:19:58Yes, agreed. Next up is one that I'm, I'm
- 1:20:01definitely guilty of. This is for getting some
- 1:20:04protection. Which I'm actually really very
- 1:20:07careful about this usually, but sometimes you just brain forgets
- 1:20:10to put on sunscreen or bring a hat or wear sunglasses.
- 1:20:13I will tell you, especially in Florida, also in Southern
- 1:20:17California, you need something for your eyes for sure, because
- 1:20:20it's really bright there. And your kids too, you know, at
- 1:20:24least a hat to protect them, sunglasses if you can.
- 1:20:28And a sunscreen, Sunscreen, friends, just sunscreen.
- 1:20:31Seek shade. Wear long layers if you can to
- 1:20:34cover up your and like I I have a history of skin cancer in my
- 1:20:37family, so this is like really near and dear to my heart that
- 1:20:40everybody takes care of themselves this way.
- 1:20:44I know you're on vacation, but that sun is really intense and
- 1:20:47you're going to look like a lobster and maybe put yourself
- 1:20:50at risk. So wear him sunscreen.
- 1:20:54And I mean, I have even been guilty of, oh, we'll be in
- 1:20:57queues most of the day. They're all covered.
- 1:21:00But there are still lots of minutes out of the day that you
- 1:21:03are walking in between that you are exposed to that sun.
- 1:21:07So regardless, you make sure that you are making a smart
- 1:21:11choice for your skin. And Maria says reapply sunscreen
- 1:21:15as well. So yes, bring some sunscreen in
- 1:21:17the parks for you. Even get a tiny little stick or
- 1:21:20something if you need it if you don't want to carry a big bulky
- 1:21:23tube. But do reapply, especially when
- 1:21:26you're sweating a lot, it's easy for it just to slide off you, so
- 1:21:30you're you're going to need more sunscreen than you think you do,
- 1:21:33just like everything else. And if you swim same, same goes
- 1:21:36for that make sure you reapply yes.
- 1:21:39OK, next on our list of mistakes that we see families making on
- 1:21:43their Disney trips is not budgeting enough for things like
- 1:21:48food souvenirs? All those types of things.
- 1:21:53Do a little research, figure out how much you might need for
- 1:21:58those things to avoid that sticker shock of getting into
- 1:22:02the emporium and seeing that the stuffed animal that your kid
- 1:22:05wants is $30 when you expected it to be 20.
- 1:22:10Yeah, you got you got to look around and see what you're
- 1:22:13anticipating. Do a a general check on prices
- 1:22:17so that you know what to budget. Yeah.
- 1:22:19And I think like Shop Disney's really great for that too as a
- 1:22:22resource in general, baseline prices for things.
- 1:22:25I will say sometimes you can get things on Shop Disney cheaper
- 1:22:29than in the parks because you can get discount codes for
- 1:22:31stuff. So just, you know, keep that in
- 1:22:33mind. That's a possibility.
- 1:22:36And this was something that I actually asked my husband.
- 1:22:38This was on his list of things. And he's like the sticker shock
- 1:22:42of being like, Oh my gosh, this sweater costs $120.00.
- 1:22:46Like, yeah, it's it's a lot. Like if you're not used to it
- 1:22:50and you walk into Disney and you're like, everything is so
- 1:22:53expensive, if you're at least aware of that before you go in,
- 1:22:57then you're like, OK, OK, I knew this was coming, so I'm, I'm
- 1:23:00good. I got this, you know?
- 1:23:02So helping your kids be aware of that too.
- 1:23:05I know that can be hard for little kids to kind of grasp and
- 1:23:08understand, you know, what $10 looks like versus $20 versus
- 1:23:13$50.00, but kind of helping them?
- 1:23:17Understand that, you know our budget says this, these are the
- 1:23:21types of things that you can get for that budget.
- 1:23:24Not I'll just go pick something out and then I'm coming back
- 1:23:27with something that is $100 toy and you going, no, that's too
- 1:23:29expensive put it back. So helping your kids through
- 1:23:32that process too, because I know that especially mine, I mean
- 1:23:34mine are little, they're only five and seven.
- 1:23:36They barely understand what the value of a dollar is.
- 1:23:41So. You know, giving them some
- 1:23:43choices or explaining to them like OK, or helping You know, my
- 1:23:46oldest is to the point where like, OK, let's look at these
- 1:23:48prices and see how much they are.
- 1:23:51Let's look at the numbers. Let's figure out if you have
- 1:23:53enough, you know, use it as a teaching moment if you are able
- 1:23:56to with your kiddos, but also making sure they understand your
- 1:24:01budget too. Yeah, and we have mentioned this
- 1:24:04before, but you know, the possibility that maybe you buy
- 1:24:07some things at a local store or something before you go, that's
- 1:24:11Disney themed. They have a lot of merchandise
- 1:24:13out there that's Disney themed, that it's a lot less expensive
- 1:24:15than the parks and maybe stashing it away in your
- 1:24:18suitcase. And I know that Kirk from
- 1:24:21Walter's Carpi, he uses like Tinkerbell gifts for good
- 1:24:23behavior and they give extra toys and things on their gifts.
- 1:24:26But just maybe buying a souvenir, you know, you may
- 1:24:31maybe get them one there. But you also have a couple of
- 1:24:33small things tucked away. We've also talked about glow
- 1:24:35sticks and stuff that you can get at the dollar store before
- 1:24:38you go. Just keeping in mind that, like,
- 1:24:41there's other options for your budget if you can.
- 1:24:44You can't afford a lot of the souvenirs or things that are
- 1:24:46there. There's some other options to
- 1:24:48still make that magic for your kids and yourself without, you
- 1:24:53know, breaking the bank because it's very, very sad right now.
- 1:24:57There's so many families that write comments and whatnot on my
- 1:25:00content that are just saying I can't afford.
- 1:25:02Disney will probably never be able to afford to go.
- 1:25:04And that just breaks my heart. And I get it.
- 1:25:07It's really expensive. It is.
- 1:25:10And I'm not going to beat around the Bush about that.
- 1:25:12But I think there are things you can do to try to make it less
- 1:25:16expensive for your family so that you can still have that
- 1:25:18experience and not have it break the bank.
- 1:25:20That makes sense. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:25:24I have to do this one because this one's kind of mine.
- 1:25:27So this one is things mistakes I've made at Disney that I would
- 1:25:32never do again. My one of my biggest ones is
- 1:25:34going on Mission Space Orange. And if those of you who are not
- 1:25:38familiar with this attraction, I thought it was like a roller
- 1:25:41coaster, something like, I this was a long time ago before I
- 1:25:44knew a lot more about Disney. And I was like, oh, you know,
- 1:25:47like let's go. Like, I liked all your roller
- 1:25:49coasters all the time. And they're great.
- 1:25:50And like, they're like this. They like, hand me a physical
- 1:25:52card that was like, this is really intense.
- 1:25:54Like, you know, you have to that knock, all these problems to go
- 1:25:56out. I was like, I'll be fine.
- 1:25:57You know, they always have those mornings.
- 1:25:59No, I didn't know what I was getting into.
- 1:26:02Mission space is not like any other E Ticket attraction.
- 1:26:05It literally puts you in this tiny little space that is very
- 1:26:08claustrophobic, where The thing is like right here and see it
- 1:26:12spins you, that's it's technology to make you feel like
- 1:26:14you're weightless. Is this is like a centrifugal
- 1:26:17force? Is that what it is?
- 1:26:18And it like, spins you so that you feel weightless.
- 1:26:20And that spinning sensation messes with a lot of people in
- 1:26:24their like inner ear and whatnot, including myself.
- 1:26:27Like my husband and I, he doesn't even get motion sick.
- 1:26:30We felt so awful we had to lay down like the rest of the day,
- 1:26:33and it really took out a day of our vacation.
- 1:26:36So they do have a side of that attraction, this mission Space
- 1:26:40Green that doesn't have the spinning part of it.
- 1:26:42That might still be a little claustrophobic, but at least
- 1:26:44doesn't have a. Spinning part, it is
- 1:26:47claustrophobic. I don't go on it anymore.
- 1:26:49I've been on it two or three times and I was finally like,
- 1:26:53you know, I don't think I need to do that again.
- 1:26:58Like, like I think I'm, I'm past the time of my life when I'm
- 1:27:01going to talk myself into doing things that I don't want to do.
- 1:27:04I just just not. I mean, and it's one of those
- 1:27:07things like, but. Yeah, and someday, like, if my
- 1:27:11kids are like, mom, will you come on it with us?
- 1:27:14OK, well, we got to go on green because my mom can't handle the
- 1:27:17orange side. No, I just like my son loves
- 1:27:21space. And so he wanted to go on it.
- 1:27:23And I was like, I I can't. I love you.
- 1:27:26I can't. So he did go with, like, I think
- 1:27:28his grandmother. But I was like, yeah, Nope, I
- 1:27:31can't even do green. I'm traumatized.
- 1:27:33Like I won't ever. I do want to go and go through
- 1:27:37the queue at some point just to like see it again.
- 1:27:40It's been so long. But I'm no, not the ride.
- 1:27:43So be careful with mission stakes.
- 1:27:45That's that's the thing. Don't make that mistake.
- 1:27:47Don't take yourself out for a whole day if you're.
- 1:27:49Doing a trip and and there are a couple other rides that that can
- 1:27:53be said for. So just again, do your research
- 1:27:56if you're someone that is prone to claustrophobia or.
- 1:28:01You know, motion sickness obviously is one that a lot of
- 1:28:04people are aware of. There are various different
- 1:28:06rides that are better or worse for those, depending on your
- 1:28:10situation. And I again will always stress
- 1:28:13that there are point of view videos available on YouTube.
- 1:28:16If you're like, I'm not really sure, just go watch it and then
- 1:28:20maybe decide from there and I will say like the equivalent to
- 1:28:24that in not the exact same ride but the same kind of feeling is
- 1:28:28the Pixar PAL around and Disney's California Adventure on
- 1:28:32the other coast. The swinging ones in particular
- 1:28:36are terrifying this and motion sickness inducing, and they are
- 1:28:41not for the faint of heart. And so if somebody's trying to
- 1:28:43convince you to go on them, just see what you're getting into.
- 1:28:48They do have motion sickness bags in that one too, for a
- 1:28:50reason and they are, they're really scary.
- 1:28:53So I wouldn't, I wouldn't personally put one of my kids in
- 1:28:57there without them really wanting to do it because it's
- 1:29:01terrifying and there's no word you're not buckled in, you're
- 1:29:03just holding on. So.
- 1:29:05Right, right. That's that's a lot to handle if
- 1:29:08you don't know what you're getting into.
- 1:29:10Yeah, Yeah. So are we finally at our last,
- 1:29:14our last thing on our list? Now we said before that this
- 1:29:18list could have been four times longer.
- 1:29:21So keep in mind this is not a comprehensive list.
- 1:29:24But the last item on our What Not to do at Disney actually
- 1:29:29comes from our friend Kirk at Walrus Carp, and he sees
- 1:29:33families that ignore the resorts.
- 1:29:38And I agree with that because I have been there, I am currently
- 1:29:42there. I have ignored the resorts on
- 1:29:45the majority of my trips because like I mentioned earlier, we're
- 1:29:48just such park people. We just want to be in the parks
- 1:29:52all the time. So it's it's hard but finding
- 1:29:55the balance and being able to do that and that's part of the
- 1:29:58reason why we are taking our our trip that we're getting ready
- 1:30:01for here in a couple weeks is. We wanted some time in the
- 1:30:04resorts because we never get to do them, so we purposely planned
- 1:30:08like 3 full days on this next trip to be able to do the
- 1:30:13resorts. So don't ignore everything that
- 1:30:17the resorts have to offer. Yeah.
- 1:30:19And I think, you know, especially seasonal times, you
- 1:30:22think the Grand Californian or, sorry, the Grand Floridian and
- 1:30:25the Grand Californian, they've got gingerbread house displays
- 1:30:28and, you know, Easter eggs at Easter time.
- 1:30:30And I've talked about going to Animal Kingdom because you can
- 1:30:34see the animals without staying there.
- 1:30:36You can go out and physically see all these really exotic
- 1:30:39animals, kind of like going on Kilimanjaro Safaris, but you
- 1:30:42just get to stand there and watch them for a while, which is
- 1:30:45wonderful. And they have really great food
- 1:30:47there as well. So yes, resort hopping is an
- 1:30:51absolute must. Not just the Monorail Lion or
- 1:30:54whatever or the Sky Liner lines, but, you know, if you can get to
- 1:30:58some of those resorts and you can use to see transportation,
- 1:31:01you just can't use Disney transportation from your resort
- 1:31:03to another resort. So you're going to have to go to
- 1:31:06like a hub. You know, if I'm staying on like
- 1:31:09the Sky Liner Lion, I like to go to Hollywood Studios because the
- 1:31:13buses are right next to the Sky Liner station.
- 1:31:15And so you can easily walk to a bus and then and hop.
- 1:31:18So there's a lot of ways to do that.
- 1:31:20You're just going to have to go to a park then to get to a
- 1:31:22resort, which is a little bit a longer journey if you don't have
- 1:31:26a car, but it's worth it. Yes, it's fun.
- 1:31:29Well, I think that's the end of our list.
- 1:31:31I think for now, I'm sure there's other mistakes that will
- 1:31:33pop up and you know, feel free to not that this will do, but in
- 1:31:38general like that you guys think of and feel free to chat with us
- 1:31:42on social media and whatnot and you know, communicate with us.
- 1:31:46We also have our Pocket fan while we're Scarf Discord that
- 1:31:49we're a part of there as well. And we have a thread for Mom St.
- 1:31:52USA that we love to have conversations there about park
- 1:31:55planning anytime. So that's a great place to bring
- 1:31:58those up so other people know what not to do at Disney.
- 1:32:03Yes, we always love hearing from you.
- 1:32:04You guys are so helpful and you're part of what makes Mom
- 1:32:07Street so helpful to others. So we love it when you guys
- 1:32:10chime in and give us all of your input because you guys have
- 1:32:14different experiences and Kate and I have.
- 1:32:16So it's fun to hear what you guys have experienced or seen or
- 1:32:20done. On your trips to the parks.
- 1:32:23OK, so let's do our Ask the Mom. So for anyone who is new, we try
- 1:32:29our best to end every one of our podcast episodes with our Ask
- 1:32:33the Mom segment where we take a question or multiple questions
- 1:32:37from our Mom St. community on various Disney topics and we
- 1:32:41will answer them for you guys to help you with your future trips.
- 1:32:45So our question for Ask the moms this evening?
- 1:32:50That is one that I feel like we get asked constantly is how many
- 1:32:57days should I plan for my trip to Disney, whether it won't be
- 1:33:03Walt Disney World or Disneyland. We get this question probably
- 1:33:07weekly. Whether it's in our live, on our
- 1:33:10social media, we see it asked in so many places.
- 1:33:13So Kate, what is your input on how many days you should have at
- 1:33:19the parks? OK, so Disneyland in California.
- 1:33:25I would recommend minimum three days, which is 2 in Disneyland
- 1:33:30and one in California Adventure because in Disneyland there's 29
- 1:33:35attractions. It will take you a while to get
- 1:33:38through most of those if you want to try to see most of the
- 1:33:40things. And then there's significantly
- 1:33:42less in California Adventure. But it's still a really
- 1:33:46wonderful park you want a full day at, especially with World of
- 1:33:48Color at the end. So 3 days minimum I would say If
- 1:33:52you want to try to do more and you also don't want to be
- 1:33:55running around trying to just like a a really unmanageable
- 1:33:59pace, I would recommend five days for a really nice relaxed
- 1:34:04ish family vacation where you can take your time and enjoy and
- 1:34:07see all the things. So five days is what I recommend
- 1:34:09usually for Disneyland for that pace and Disney World.
- 1:34:16I usually recommend a solid week there with a rest day in the
- 1:34:20middle. That's usually where I head for
- 1:34:22that. More if you want to make it
- 1:34:24really relaxed and have more rest time, minimum four days.
- 1:34:28If you wanted us visit each park, you got to do 1 park per
- 1:34:30day. But you'll only see the
- 1:34:32highlights. You probably won't get to see a
- 1:34:34lot of it. So what about you Jackie?
- 1:34:36What do you recommend? Yeah.
- 1:34:38I agree with what you said. I mean, obviously I will defer
- 1:34:41to you for all things Disneyland because I have not experienced
- 1:34:44that yet. But with Disney World, I I
- 1:34:47totally agree. I think if you're doing 1 park
- 1:34:49per day, obviously it makes sense to do four days.
- 1:34:54If you're doing and if you're doing 1 park per day and you
- 1:34:58really want to hit the majority of each park, I would suggest 5
- 1:35:04park days because I would suggest two days in Magic
- 1:35:07Kingdom. If you're not doing a hopper
- 1:35:09option, you're doing just one park per day.
- 1:35:11I would suggest 5 park days, and maybe one of those days you take
- 1:35:15an extended break or you do something different.
- 1:35:17You go to a resort you know you don't.
- 1:35:19Maybe don't spend the whole day there, but I really think Magic
- 1:35:22Kingdom needs a day and a half to two days to hit the majority
- 1:35:26of what that park has to offer. If you're doing a park hopper,
- 1:35:29you could probably get away with four days in the parks.
- 1:35:33Because you would have some ability to hop back to parks if
- 1:35:36you didn't finish everything, depending on your lists and
- 1:35:39where you want to go and all of that.
- 1:35:41But I would say 4-4 days minimum, but I would say
- 1:35:46something closer to to probably 5:00 to 6:00 to really, really
- 1:35:50be able to get through everything at the parks.
- 1:35:52Yeah, I agree. Like six to seven nights stay in
- 1:35:57Walt Disney World and and five days total.
- 1:36:01And I usually do like what we do is like 5 day park tickets and
- 1:36:05we do kind of like we do travel days on the other side.
- 1:36:09So it makes it seven days total. But they're traveling in and out
- 1:36:12and those half days we do something like Disney Springs or
- 1:36:14resorts or like something that's not park or swimming at the
- 1:36:18hotel and just enjoy. And then we do those five days
- 1:36:22and the day in the middle we do, we sleep in and do like 1/2
- 1:36:25resort day and maybe do an evening in the parks or
- 1:36:27something like that. So I agree.
- 1:36:31Yeah. And we've done stuff like that
- 1:36:32before. We typically will do an entire
- 1:36:34day off just because for us it's a lot cheaper if you don't have
- 1:36:38to pay for that park ticket, if you're not going to use the
- 1:36:41whole day. That's just kind of the way that
- 1:36:43we approach it. We really want to make the most
- 1:36:46of our money that we're putting towards those park tickets.
- 1:36:48So we want to make sure we're using them open to close.
- 1:36:52Obviously, those of you that maybe go multiple times a year
- 1:36:55or have annual passes, things like that, it gets a little bit
- 1:36:57different with kind of how you fluctuate those park days with
- 1:37:00that. But we really try to make sure
- 1:37:03that we do like an open and close.
- 1:37:05So yeah, we typically will do 2 parks a full day of rest,
- 1:37:08whether it be swimming in Disney Springs or resorts or whatever,
- 1:37:11and then our last two parks to end the trip.
- 1:37:14So that's typically what we end up doing.
- 1:37:17And I see Chris over here is making a comment that they did 1
- 1:37:201/2 days at Epcot and still never got to walk World
- 1:37:23Showcase. And Epcot is a big park.
- 1:37:25It's like physically large park. And so you could get tired
- 1:37:29really easily and then not get to that World Showcase or vice
- 1:37:32versa, not get to Future World, which is the front part of the
- 1:37:35park. So you know what, That's again,
- 1:37:38where Park hoppers are are great, especially if you have a
- 1:37:41limited time in the park, but you want to try to go back and
- 1:37:44hit things you didn't get to. If you're tight on budget, just
- 1:37:49do one part per day for Disney World.
- 1:37:50It'll be fine and you'll make it, But if you have a limited
- 1:37:54time and you want to get to multiple things, I think Park
- 1:37:56Hopper is your way to go to try to go back and see a couple
- 1:38:00things you might have missed. And also World Showcase and
- 1:38:02Epcot, just great to go for food, you know, it's like a
- 1:38:05great pop in for a meal in World Showcase.
- 1:38:08Yeah. That's one of our areas that I
- 1:38:10feel like we always have to very strategically plan.
- 1:38:13Especially when it comes to food like we have to know exactly
- 1:38:16what we want to eat because we will just wander and get lost in
- 1:38:20all of the food options around World Showcase.
- 1:38:23And it's like, oh, that looks good, No focus.
- 1:38:26Pay attention, you have a list. Use your list to guide you.
- 1:38:30Oh yeah, we always go in. If there's a festival, we go in
- 1:38:33with a list and be like, these are the things that we would
- 1:38:36enjoy eating, you know? And then, like, it keeps us on
- 1:38:39task. Not necessarily like, we have to
- 1:38:42get all of those things, but these are the things we're going
- 1:38:44to aim for and we usually get to most of them.
- 1:38:46Which is fun, right? Well, this is a really fun
- 1:38:49episode. Shall we wrap it up?
- 1:38:52Yes, briefly. I do just want to mention what's
- 1:38:54coming up next before we end officially.
- 1:38:58So next week, let me find where we are.
- 1:39:03We aren't even know, so I'm glad you next.
- 1:39:05Week. I oh, I pulled up the dock
- 1:39:07because I didn't remember what we were doing.
- 1:39:10I had to look and see. Next we're going to talk about
- 1:39:13Jollywood because that will be after Kate goes to the first
- 1:39:17party for Jollywood nights at Hollywood Studios.
- 1:39:20So that is coming up very quickly.
- 1:39:23Kate's trip is coming up very quickly.
- 1:39:26So many exciting things coming up very quickly.
- 1:39:28So make sure you follow us on all of the places so you don't
- 1:39:32miss any of it. Yeah, it'll be fun.
- 1:39:36But for tonight, it's time. Time to say goodnight and to go
- 1:39:40to bed for me. All righty.
