- 0:08Speaker 3: The world's a big pokies.
- 0:14Speaker 4: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 3: What do you think of Caleb Williams saying I don't
- 0:20Speaker 3: care who drafts me as long as they go first.
- 0:22Speaker 5: I think JJ McCarthy's jumping Daniel's If you listen to
- 0:26Speaker 5: what people.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Are saying, that's what's don't crazy. I know you don't
- 0:30Speaker 4: like to hear this, but Williams has never moved off
- 0:33Speaker 4: of one.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I said that last No Show and he arguing, I
- 0:37Speaker 3: don't want to get into.
- 0:38Speaker 6: I'm gonna I'm gonna telling the story.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Oh Fred I was ten and two, yes, sir, yesterir,
- 0:44Speaker 3: but then it's like you're going eighty five. No, I wasn't.
- 0:46Speaker 3: But the more he talked about it, like by Andy
- 0:48Speaker 3: spreading go outside the car, and that was my fear.
- 0:52Speaker 3: My wife likes the Notre Dame quarterback.
- 0:54Speaker 4: He looks like grizzly as everybody's.
- 0:57Speaker 6: Everybody's got a type. Paul that mine as soon as.
- 1:04Speaker 3: All right throwing.
- 1:06Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:08Speaker 7: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:11Speaker 7: dot Com.
- 1:14Speaker 3: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:18Speaker 3: at Jillette Stadium, and uh, once again another show and
- 1:24Speaker 3: it's all draft all the time, right.
- 1:26Speaker 6: No, it's all transition tag.
- 1:28Speaker 5: How mad can we get about the transition tag?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:32Speaker 6: I got a bone to pick with Paul about his shows.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Okay, So yes, Kyle Duggar got tagged with the transition
- 1:40Speaker 3: and so we'll talk about and so we'll talk about that.
- 1:43Speaker 6: It's not really about the transition tag that they were
- 1:44Speaker 6: whining about the transition tag. But I have another thing
- 1:46Speaker 6: I'll say.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Okay, and what that means to Kyle Duggar and the
- 1:50Speaker 3: team and otherwise the franchise tag deadline came and went.
- 1:58Speaker 3: No movement there in terms of French for the Patriots,
- 2:01Speaker 3: but there was a lot of movement in the league
- 2:04Speaker 3: yesterday right up north in Buffalo. Holy mackerel.
- 2:07Speaker 6: Somehow they managed to franchise just about every guy we
- 2:10Speaker 6: talked about on our free agency preview video that we
- 2:12Speaker 6: shot Tuesday. So Michael Ready's doing some editing up upstairs.
- 2:16Speaker 6: But now, interesting move for dugger I mean, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 6: I think it's a good sign, he's probably gonna stick around.
- 2:21Speaker 6: They said, he wants he wants.
- 2:22Speaker 3: To be the person to explain the transition tag.
- 2:25Speaker 6: Yeah, that's not that hard.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Who wants to explain it?
- 2:27Speaker 4: I'll do. It's then the top five average salaries of
- 2:30Speaker 4: the top five, it's the top ten, it's lower and
- 2:33Speaker 4: you are not entitled to any compensation if someone signs him.
- 2:37Speaker 4: You just have the writer first refusal.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Right yeah, right now. You know, people say, well, what's
- 2:42Speaker 3: what's the thing here? So for Dougger, if he goes
- 2:46Speaker 3: out and gets a bunch of offers and they all stink,
- 2:51Speaker 3: and even if the Patriots what they were offering stunk,
- 2:54Speaker 3: he can at least know that now I can get
- 2:56Speaker 3: the average of the top ten safeties in the league.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So there's something so I know, like the tags seem
- 3:03Speaker 3: to always favor the teams, but there is things built
- 3:07Speaker 3: into both the franchise and the transition tag that kind
- 3:10Speaker 3: of protects the player a little bit, you know.
- 3:12Speaker 6: Protects the team. It's going to allow him he can
- 3:14Speaker 6: go out, he can, you know, and he finds a
- 3:16Speaker 6: great deal and they're like thanks, like you know they're
- 3:18Speaker 6: going to play you like you know, something crazy then
- 3:21Speaker 6: we can let him walk. It gives them more time
- 3:23Speaker 6: to at least negotiate, and you know, if not and
- 3:26Speaker 6: it doesn't work out, then he plays when you're under
- 3:27Speaker 6: thirteen million, which doesn't seem like crazy.
- 3:29Speaker 4: The tags are tough on the players, I mean the
- 3:32Speaker 4: money aside. Like I mean, I understand if you're a
- 3:35Speaker 4: fan and you say, how can you say, yeah, how
- 3:37Speaker 4: could you say it's tough on the player? I get that.
- 3:39Speaker 4: I totally understand it. There's been a lot of guys
- 3:41Speaker 4: that have gained the system by getting tagged multiple times.
- 3:44Speaker 4: You know, Kirk Cousins is the poster child, so I
- 3:47Speaker 4: understand why fans push back on that. But it's harder
- 3:51Speaker 4: now for Kyle Dugar to sign somewhere like it used
- 3:54Speaker 4: to be. The Tampa Bay Box could offer him, you know,
- 3:57Speaker 4: a five year, one hundred and twenty million dollar contract
- 4:00Speaker 4: and if he said, yes, he's yours. Yea, Now you
- 4:03Speaker 4: have to go and waste that time potentially only to
- 4:06Speaker 4: have the Patriots match it.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Yeah. My question is did the Patriots already make him
- 4:10Speaker 3: an offer that he declined? Reportedly yes, So he can
- 4:14Speaker 3: go to any team and say here's what they're offering.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Me just do better.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Yeah, but they might not want to do that because
- 4:20Speaker 4: they can waste the time that it takes to talk
- 4:22Speaker 4: to him only to have the Patriots matching, right, and
- 4:25Speaker 4: he can't go. It's not like then Kyle dugger has
- 4:28Speaker 4: a choice, right.
- 4:28Speaker 3: The Patriots could up their offer once he comes back, right, Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I think that a lot of people would assume that, oh,
- 4:34Speaker 5: if one team just throws a bag at him, then
- 4:37Speaker 5: what difference does it make? But this actually I think
- 4:39Speaker 5: hurts Kyle Duggar more than the franchise tag would have
- 4:44Speaker 5: because I highly doubt, and maybe it will happen, but
- 4:48Speaker 5: I highly doubt that a team is going to grossly
- 4:50Speaker 5: overpay for his services to steal them away from the
- 4:53Speaker 5: Patriots on a contract that the Patriots wouldn't have offered
- 4:56Speaker 5: him anyways. So just the feeling is is that he's
- 5:00Speaker 5: probably going to either agree to the best deal with
- 5:04Speaker 5: from New England that he could possibly get, or just
- 5:07Speaker 5: play on the one year tag.
- 5:09Speaker 3: But remember nowadays, it doesn't always have to be the
- 5:11Speaker 3: total amount. It can be what they're guaranteeing. And you know,
- 5:15Speaker 3: maybe a team puts the poison pill in there in
- 5:18Speaker 3: terms of we're gonna guarantee eighty percent of this contract,
- 5:21Speaker 3: and the Patriots are just not willing to do that,
- 5:23Speaker 3: even if the money's the same, you know.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Right, But they could, they could, they could now they
- 5:27Speaker 4: have the option to do it, And I think I
- 5:29Speaker 4: agree with Evan and that teams are less likely to
- 5:31Speaker 4: do that because that's wasting time. I could be talking
- 5:34Speaker 4: to another safety, which, by the way, that seems to
- 5:38Speaker 4: be the position to jour in free agency. There's a
- 5:41Speaker 4: lot of running backs and safety suddenly available, so it
- 5:46Speaker 4: doesn't lock him up. But to me, it for three
- 5:50Speaker 4: million dollars, I think you you kind of run the
- 5:54Speaker 4: risk of him being disgruntled if you just franchised him,
- 5:57Speaker 4: then I think at least he gets paid at the
- 5:59Speaker 4: top of the market. It for one year. This is
- 6:02Speaker 4: kind of middling it. And I think I kind of
- 6:05Speaker 4: side with evidence.
- 6:06Speaker 6: Generally, just always a risk when you used the tags, right,
- 6:08Speaker 6: like that's just you're gonna yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 4: And I'm not saying that that should be you should
- 6:11Speaker 4: never use it because of that, but I think the
- 6:13Speaker 4: risk you have to take if you use it, use it,
- 6:15Speaker 4: like I think you'll try to save a couple of nickels,
- 6:17Speaker 4: And I.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Do think it. It puts you back into square one,
- 6:21Speaker 5: I think with him because they were negotiating with him
- 6:24Speaker 5: up until the tag deadline, where well, now that contract
- 6:27Speaker 5: that we were maybe close on, maybe weren't close on,
- 6:30Speaker 5: or throwing that out because we're going to go to
- 6:32Speaker 5: market and see what's out there on Monday. But I
- 6:35Speaker 5: also think that it's probably more reflective of what he's
- 6:40Speaker 5: worth thirteen point eight million dollars. I understand it's a
- 6:43Speaker 5: couple million bucks and sure, but he's probably like a
- 6:47Speaker 5: twelve and a half thirteen million dollar player on the
- 6:50Speaker 5: open market, and so they're not grossly overpaying him for
- 6:53Speaker 5: the year if they get him at thirteen point eight.
- 6:56Speaker 5: So I think that's a consideration.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Well that's certainly why they did it.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, okay, anyone care to comment on what's going
- 7:07Speaker 3: on with Buffalo? I don't know.
- 7:10Speaker 4: And why I thought the salary cap was really hard?
- 7:13Speaker 4: You know, I guess you could just cut the players,
- 7:15Speaker 4: cut everybody. Suddenly you go from forty over the cap
- 7:18Speaker 4: and you're not forty over the camp.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Yeah, you're right right.
- 7:23Speaker 4: In the NHL, you'd still be forty over the cap
- 7:26Speaker 4: and not have those players anymore because you know why
- 7:29Speaker 4: that's a real cap.
- 7:30Speaker 5: The NHL cap is brutal.
- 7:31Speaker 6: Don't you think those are his key players that they
- 7:33Speaker 6: kind of cut like, aren't you? Aren't you a little
- 7:35Speaker 6: bit like and Trey White? And I mean those are
- 7:38Speaker 6: you guys who have been kind of their fabric of
- 7:39Speaker 6: their team and now they just have to.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Little bit Mitch Morse. I think their offensive line is okay,
- 7:45Speaker 4: and I think having a good center, I think there's
- 7:48Speaker 4: some comfort in that Poyer thirty two years old, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 4: maybe had another year or so left. They replaced him
- 7:54Speaker 4: with Taylor Rap. Not as good a player. Rap is
- 7:57Speaker 4: not as good as Poyer, but I don't worry about
- 8:00Speaker 4: that too much with them. Otherwise you have to. I mean,
- 8:04Speaker 4: these are just decisions that get made every year. You know.
- 8:07Speaker 6: It's just a little jarring to see those names.
- 8:09Speaker 4: I think, to me, yeah, tevious White, as Fred says,
- 8:11Speaker 4: you know, you killed TODs White all the time. He's
- 8:14Speaker 4: heard all the time, right, Yeah, I'm sure he's now
- 8:17Speaker 4: going to turn into But.
- 8:18Speaker 3: If there are you know, supervision, medical ward.
- 8:24Speaker 6: It'll be fine.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I think for Buffalo, I would be interested in White, Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 4: but I would take like that you were talking about
- 8:33Speaker 4: but you were talking about Gilmour yesterday. I don't think
- 8:35Speaker 4: Tridevius White would demand that kind of money because of
- 8:39Speaker 4: the injuries.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Maybe, I don't know, I'm not I'm not so sure.
- 8:43Speaker 5: But he's been serious injury after serious with them, not
- 8:46Speaker 5: even yeah, like not just like oh he's dinged up
- 8:50Speaker 5: and Achilles.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Is uh if that's seem like, oh is he walking?
- 8:56Speaker 5: I do wonder with Buffalo how much their new stadium
- 9:00Speaker 5: is impacting their cash spending. Interesting because we were up
- 9:04Speaker 5: there and people were talking about that, about how much
- 9:06Speaker 5: money the ownership had sunk into the new stadium in Buffalo,
- 9:11Speaker 5: and they they spent I think three hundred million dollars
- 9:15Speaker 5: in cash last year on the team, and then all
- 9:17Speaker 5: of a sudden they just are are cut and payroll,
- 9:20Speaker 5: and so I wonder if they don't have the actual
- 9:23Speaker 5: cash to be fronting a roster like this anymore.
- 9:27Speaker 4: And that's what counts because and I mentioned, you know,
- 9:31Speaker 4: Taylor Rapp replaces Poyer. Well, they also replaced White with
- 9:35Speaker 4: Rasul Douglas, who they picked up last year and actually
- 9:37Speaker 4: played pretty well for them. So they had they had
- 9:41Speaker 4: the money, it was a matter of moving the players
- 9:44Speaker 4: around that they wanted to replace again, doesn't mean they're right.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I mean, I think that's what got the Patriots in
- 9:51Speaker 4: trouble in the last ten years is after doing it
- 9:54Speaker 4: perfectly for fifteen years or so, they started not replacing
- 9:58Speaker 4: the right guys. So Buffalo definitely runs that risk that. Oh,
- 10:02Speaker 4: you think Rap is the same as Poyer, He's not.
- 10:05Speaker 4: I don't think he is. By the way, I don't
- 10:07Speaker 4: think he's as good a player. We'll see if it
- 10:09Speaker 4: hurts them, do you know what I mean? But those
- 10:10Speaker 4: are the decisions you make.
- 10:11Speaker 3: It's I know, But in the case of the Bills,
- 10:15Speaker 3: it's it's those are hard decisions because their win. This
- 10:18Speaker 3: is their window.
- 10:19Speaker 4: This is just their window kind of passed like they're they.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Go as long as they have, Josh Allen.
- 10:24Speaker 4: But they got younger and better. Yeah, we'll see if
- 10:27Speaker 4: they're right. I don't think that. I don't think I
- 10:29Speaker 4: don't think they're right right.
- 10:31Speaker 5: I don't think they think they got younger and better.
- 10:32Speaker 5: I think they're resetting. I think they recognize that the
- 10:36Speaker 5: veteran guys that that were a are aging out of
- 10:39Speaker 5: their of their window. Here Josh Allen keeps the window open, Yes,
- 10:43Speaker 5: but the thing is is that they they're the supplemental
- 10:46Speaker 5: talent on the roster is aging, and it's not the
- 10:50Speaker 5: same talent as it once was. Like Jordan Poyer is
- 10:52Speaker 5: not the same player he was three years that's my point.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I mean, they're kind of doing what the Patriots didn't do.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Remember we had those of all arguments about play the
- 11:00Speaker 3: young guys, and you know they they stuck with the
- 11:03Speaker 3: young the older guys, and the Bills just say, no,
- 11:06Speaker 3: we're not gonna do that. We're gonna take the shot.
- 11:09Speaker 3: We're gonna go with the younger people. We're gonna reset
- 11:12Speaker 3: even though we think we're close.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and they definitely went all in last year. I
- 11:16Speaker 4: mean like they had a lot of cash their cash
- 11:18Speaker 4: outlay last year with top high and you can't do that.
- 11:23Speaker 3: So now we have to reset r I.
- 11:24Speaker 6: Did every work of von Miller too, so I thought
- 11:26Speaker 6: that was kind of interesting, and he hasn't really done anything.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I guess is that that one would have killed him
- 11:30Speaker 4: on Dead Cat. I didn't look at it because I
- 11:32Speaker 4: don't care about it. But my guess is there's a
- 11:33Speaker 4: reasonable because he did nothing.
- 11:35Speaker 6: No, he's not two years nothing, he's a nothing.
- 11:37Speaker 4: I mean, but you looked at like they made all
- 11:39Speaker 4: these moves and I know they're minor signing, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 4: like Mitch Trubisky is not like breaking your bank. Rusull
- 11:45Speaker 4: Douglas is not breaking your bank. That with David Edwards
- 11:48Speaker 4: they kind of cut and resigned or something like that.
- 11:50Speaker 4: They're all kind of minor on the market. But it's
- 11:53Speaker 4: just taling you. The cap doesn't matter, Weld. It's mad
- 11:56Speaker 4: stuff around to get what you want, and it's a
- 11:59Speaker 4: bit of a reset. I agree with it.
- 12:00Speaker 3: You have to consider the cap. You have to make
- 12:03Speaker 3: these decisions. It can be manipulated, you know, every day
- 12:07Speaker 3: and twice on Sunday, but you have to make those
- 12:09Speaker 3: decisions and.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Then you find out if they're right. And I do
- 12:12Speaker 4: think that's part of what the Patriots dealt with is
- 12:16Speaker 4: after kind of being right almost every time for a
- 12:20Speaker 4: long time because Brady made it well you said it,
- 12:25Speaker 4: not me, but they kind of started, you know, letting
- 12:28Speaker 4: a Joe Tuney go and not necessarily you know, being
- 12:32Speaker 4: better for it, and and things like that. You know,
- 12:35Speaker 4: Trey Flowers as a lesser example, you know, not a
- 12:39Speaker 4: you know, a cap altering move there, but you let
- 12:42Speaker 4: him go and you know, maybe you were okay without him,
- 12:46Speaker 4: maybe you weren't. But we'll see if Buffalo is really
- 12:49Speaker 4: hurting without Poet, because I do think those two safeties
- 12:52Speaker 4: I think were terrific, and I don't think they were perfect,
- 12:56Speaker 4: But I do wonder if just plugging in another who
- 13:01Speaker 4: kind of profiles similar in raps, he's not the same
- 13:05Speaker 4: player now and that almost never works out the same.
- 13:06Speaker 6: And those two guys were just like to me, the
- 13:08Speaker 6: kind of the continuity of their defense, you know, like
- 13:11Speaker 6: that was just those two guys were I mean, what
- 13:13Speaker 6: game was it that they lost. I mean, it was
- 13:15Speaker 6: well the win game that they lost, and then you
- 13:17Speaker 6: know they kind of came out they looked dejected, but
- 13:19Speaker 6: you know they kind of spoke for the team.
- 13:20Speaker 4: So it's you know, it's not responsible for them getting
- 13:23Speaker 4: past that.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Yeah, it's not just on the field, it's it's off
- 13:26Speaker 6: the field too. These are you know, like to your point, Fred,
- 13:28Speaker 6: these are leaders. These are guys that you have to
- 13:30Speaker 6: you know, It's it's tough in that regard.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Tyler in New York City says, sure, Buffalo owners put
- 13:34Speaker 3: three hundred million into the stadium, but I put over
- 13:37Speaker 3: fifty dollars myself. That's the per capital price of that
- 13:40Speaker 3: stadium to New Yorkers. I love the lack of public
- 13:43Speaker 3: money for Gillette.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I would say that, like Brandon Bean, I think is
- 13:48Speaker 5: recognizing that they need to turn over the roster. Like
- 13:51Speaker 5: I would actually not say that this is more and
- 13:53Speaker 5: I know they didn't have the three Super Bowls in
- 13:54Speaker 5: the first time, but this is more to me like
- 13:56Speaker 5: the two thousand and nine twenty ten Patriots where some
- 14:01Speaker 5: of these guys you know, are starting to age out
- 14:03Speaker 5: and some of these guys are retiring and now we
- 14:06Speaker 5: have to turn over the roster, and then you get
- 14:08Speaker 5: into like you know, the twenty ten's Pats like that.
- 14:11Speaker 5: I think that this is more Buffalo recognizing we went
- 14:13Speaker 5: for it with this core veteran group, we didn't win,
- 14:17Speaker 5: and now here comes Josh Allen's contract and now we
- 14:20Speaker 5: have to turn it over and start again.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Basically, it's more importantly for the Patriots is what are
- 14:27Speaker 3: you interested in any of these guys? And there's other
- 14:29Speaker 3: people around the league that have been released. I know, Evan,
- 14:31Speaker 3: you were saying, you know Q the.
- 14:34Speaker 5: I've done that twice.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yeah, Elliott Wolf on the phone, do.
- 14:37Speaker 6: We have that meme? We need to get there.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Yeah, so it's not obviously it's him with the Patriot.
- 14:42Speaker 5: I think it's the Browns. But whatever, I'll have to
- 14:44Speaker 5: do for now.
- 14:45Speaker 6: We should asked him when he was on then when
- 14:46Speaker 6: we talked to him, like can we just get a
- 14:47Speaker 6: picture of you, like looking at your phone, or like
- 14:49Speaker 6: can we you go by that hurts counter and just
- 14:50Speaker 6: stand over there, We'll take a quick picture.
- 14:52Speaker 3: But I would imagine, but you know, these guys here
- 14:55Speaker 3: are busy looking at the people that are you know,
- 14:58Speaker 3: becoming available and seeing do we on them because we've
- 15:00Speaker 3: got the money.
- 15:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm kind of curious in the next twenty four
- 15:03Speaker 6: hours when you or you know, I mean a lot
- 15:06Speaker 6: of those guys, I assume they're gonna let at least
- 15:08Speaker 6: test the market and see. But but I think this
- 15:10Speaker 6: is the week where you kind of get your own
- 15:12Speaker 6: house in order and get ready because what it's gonna
- 15:15Speaker 6: be Monday morning, all of a sudden, report report, report,
- 15:18Speaker 6: and it's all gonna it's all be coming fast and furious.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, So there's that.
- 15:23Speaker 6: And Dynasty tonight is which episodes are up to seven
- 15:28Speaker 6: and eight.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I think seven and eight are coming out tonight. And
- 15:32Speaker 3: then we'll have the recap tomorrow night hours. I couldn't remember. Yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 3: I'll be up watching.
- 15:36Speaker 6: It was out like last week. I watched it. I
- 15:38Speaker 6: was it was like eight o'clock. It was out Thursday night,
- 15:40Speaker 6: like eight o'clock last I just randomly checked and I'm like,
- 15:43Speaker 6: oh my.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Gosh, and there they were midnight.
- 15:44Speaker 6: They That's what I did to Paul. I was so excited.
- 15:47Speaker 6: I had nothing to do in the hotel room back
- 15:48Speaker 6: in Indie while all these guys are out partying, and I.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Just whoa, whoa, whoa whoaa. So Mike's getting the director's cut.
- 15:54Speaker 4: You guys right, I'm working.
- 15:56Speaker 6: I'm trying to you know, we studying the team.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Of course I was working too, working, working the sources,
- 16:02Speaker 5: work in the bomb.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Uh. Of course, use your own tap, of course. Drafted
- 16:11Speaker 3: still front and center for us. Our friend Chris Simms
- 16:17Speaker 3: this I don't know why he does this, but Ron
- 16:22Speaker 3: and Conway New Hampshire, right, same. My question is for
- 16:25Speaker 3: Evan and Deuce. I was listening to Chris Simms podcast
- 16:28Speaker 3: today and listened to his top five QB prospects. I
- 16:32Speaker 3: know that I remember Evans saying many times that he
- 16:34Speaker 3: thought Williams and Daniels were amazing quarterbacks, but that may
- 16:37Speaker 3: would be the best fitting a v P system. SIMS
- 16:40Speaker 3: rankings Worth follows. He had Williams at one, Daniels at two,
- 16:44Speaker 3: bow Knicks at three, Panix at four, McCarthy at five,
- 16:49Speaker 3: and May at six.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Also had Zach Wilson at number one in the two thousand.
- 16:55Speaker 3: He's also had like Brady, Yeah, you know he had
- 17:00Speaker 3: so he does this. I don't know why, but he
- 17:02Speaker 3: does it. What do you guys think?
- 17:03Speaker 5: I think that we need to stop listening to every
- 17:06Speaker 5: guy that had like a cup of coffee in the
- 17:08Speaker 5: NFL's opinion about quarterbacks, like all of them are our
- 17:13Speaker 5: quarterback whispers whose opinion we should be taken seriously. Even
- 17:17Speaker 5: though his rankings every year stick was.
- 17:18Speaker 6: That what you were directing a tour where you've posted
- 17:20Speaker 6: that pick of Drake may just kind of like drop
- 17:22Speaker 6: back drop, like boom boom boom, let it go and
- 17:24Speaker 6: put it right in the bucket.
- 17:25Speaker 5: It just the thing about it is is that and look,
- 17:28Speaker 5: we all do it to an extent, but it's a
- 17:30Speaker 5: long drawn out process with the draft, and at some
- 17:33Speaker 5: point everybody gets prospect fatigue, and this guy becomes the
- 17:37Speaker 5: hot guy, and that guy becomes the hot guy. And
- 17:39Speaker 5: right now Drake May is the lightning rod. Like he's
- 17:41Speaker 5: the one that's taking on water for whatever reason, uh
- 17:45Speaker 5: in his stock. And I guarantee you that it's all
- 17:49Speaker 5: media thodder, Like there's no team that is moving Drake
- 17:52Speaker 5: May from two to six on their draft board at
- 17:55Speaker 5: this point of the offseason. It's it's the media that's.
- 17:58Speaker 6: It just feels distant, Gen, it just feels like, look,
- 18:00Speaker 6: everybody's kind of got the same. You need to have
- 18:01Speaker 6: something to shake it up a little bit and get
- 18:03Speaker 6: everybody talking. And here we are talking about.
- 18:05Speaker 3: But it does it. It makes me look dumb.
- 18:07Speaker 6: I feel think he cares.
- 18:08Speaker 3: But Evan, speaking of Drake May, he will be up
- 18:12Speaker 3: close and personal. He's going to be going to Drake
- 18:14Speaker 3: May's pro day as well as Jayden Daniels.
- 18:18Speaker 5: I guess that's official now, Yeah, I mean I don't care.
- 18:22Speaker 6: No, it's cool. I mean, well, I mean, Evan's been
- 18:24Speaker 6: driving the train on that He's wanted to do it.
- 18:26Speaker 6: So we're like, yeah, let's let's send him to the
- 18:27Speaker 6: south and slow what's what is the speed limit down?
- 18:32Speaker 6: Then let's sell sure we get that right seventy.
- 18:35Speaker 5: I went to b c's pro day last year with
- 18:37Speaker 5: day Flowers, and everybody around me was like, oh, you
- 18:39Speaker 5: got to go to no offense to b C. Bill Brian, great,
- 18:42Speaker 5: great program, but you know you got to go to
- 18:45Speaker 5: an LSU and Alabama like one of these big time schools.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Their pro days are are totally different than this.
- 18:52Speaker 6: There's it's a whole production.
- 18:53Speaker 5: Yeah, there's you know, ten times before.
- 18:57Speaker 3: You get swag back.
- 18:58Speaker 6: I'm just thinking that friend, he's gonna like a shirt.
- 19:01Speaker 5: But you know, like I said yesterday when we were
- 19:03Speaker 5: talking about it, it's not just Jade and Daniels at LSU, right,
- 19:07Speaker 5: you have Molik neighbors, you have Brian Thomas Junior. You
- 19:10Speaker 5: know at U n C, Tess Walker will be catching
- 19:13Speaker 5: passes from Drake May. So there's a lot of guys
- 19:15Speaker 5: to see it all these pro days, which is the
- 19:17Speaker 5: cool part about going to like a big school like
- 19:19Speaker 5: l s U.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Are We gonna have to keep a leash on you though,
- 19:22Speaker 3: because you can't be like running out there and like
- 19:24Speaker 3: you know, running break.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Up at the you gotta stack them when it comes to.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Be like a Taylor Swift running down and start you're
- 19:35Speaker 3: not running it right.
- 19:38Speaker 5: When it comes to LSU's pro day, what I'm most
- 19:41Speaker 5: interested to see in is is probably one of the
- 19:43Speaker 5: biggest knocks not you know actually on film with Jaden Daniels,
- 19:47Speaker 5: is his arm strength.
- 19:48Speaker 4: You know it.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Can he really drive the ball. So maybe I'll get
- 19:51Speaker 5: like a radar gun and put it like right behind
- 19:54Speaker 5: him and get the m p h s on.
- 19:56Speaker 6: The you gotta see if he's put some weight onto
- 19:58Speaker 6: we're talking about you know, his big mac.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Yeah, not winging it.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Can you get a radar gun through TSA.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Maybe I'll buy it in in that room.
- 20:07Speaker 6: Yeah, Jack Chin to gift the picture. I didn't even
- 20:09Speaker 6: realize that was in my bag.
- 20:10Speaker 4: So yeah, there you go.
- 20:12Speaker 6: I go around, well because they do.
- 20:14Speaker 5: They do the radar gun at the combine now, but
- 20:17Speaker 5: everybody puts like all of it into it like it's
- 20:19Speaker 5: not a no one's using like an actual throwing motion.
- 20:22Speaker 5: They're throwing it like it's a you know, it's a
- 20:25Speaker 5: max out situation. So it's you know, JJ McCarthy threw
- 20:28Speaker 5: like sixty one miles an hour and everybody made a
- 20:30Speaker 5: big deal out of It's like, yeah, but if you
- 20:32Speaker 5: watch him throw, it's that's not how he throws. He
- 20:34Speaker 5: just absolutely unloaded one and it went sixty one miles
- 20:38Speaker 5: an hour. It's like, all right, well, I don't know
- 20:39Speaker 5: how much stock I actually put into that. I want
- 20:41Speaker 5: to see how they throw it. Actually the eighties, but
- 20:45Speaker 5: your picture, oh.
- 20:46Speaker 4: That was yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 5: I was gonna say, that's a base with a smaller,
- 20:49Speaker 5: that's a much that's a mushball. And Joe Milton got
- 20:52Speaker 5: up there and threw it sixty two miles an hour.
- 20:54Speaker 5: But if you actually watch the clip, he just threw
- 20:57Speaker 5: it like he threw it like you would throw it
- 20:58Speaker 5: in from the pocket, and he still threw at sixty
- 21:00Speaker 5: two and then walked off the finger.
- 21:02Speaker 6: He's kind of cool.
- 21:03Speaker 4: I think it would be fun.
- 21:04Speaker 6: Some team's gonna get some fun with him, like in
- 21:06Speaker 6: training camp, you know, like late round, mid round guy,
- 21:08Speaker 6: and bring him in, let him rifle some balls around.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Just to let everyone know, we can't take phone calls
- 21:13Speaker 3: today because we had a power outage in the building
- 21:16Speaker 3: yesterday lasted about two or three hours and it knocked
- 21:20Speaker 3: out our phone bank. So no phone calls. But you
- 21:23Speaker 3: can't email us at web radio at pages dot com.
- 21:26Speaker 6: I wish someone would email us in because I can't
- 21:28Speaker 6: find it. I've looked for it, but there's this like
- 21:30Speaker 6: stupid thing going around, like many in the Combine believe
- 21:34Speaker 6: that the forty nine ers would have had at least
- 21:35Speaker 6: two Super Bowls if Mac Jones was on the And
- 21:38Speaker 6: I'm like, what, like, did you watch mac Jones at all?
- 21:42Speaker 6: But the thing I like about it though, and I'm like,
- 21:44Speaker 6: that's great, give us a second round pick for him then,
- 21:46Speaker 6: you know, like, but I just I mean, it goes
- 21:48Speaker 6: back to what Evan was saying about silly season here,
- 21:50Speaker 6: where I'm like it clearly to me seems like Max
- 21:53Speaker 6: Agent's trying to, you know, drum off some interest, so
- 21:55Speaker 6: hopefully maybe it drums up.
- 21:57Speaker 4: A little drifts.
- 21:59Speaker 6: That's why I wish someone would would tell us where
- 22:01Speaker 6: it came from, because it was attributed to NFL Network.
- 22:03Speaker 6: I don't know exactly who said it, and it's it's
- 22:05Speaker 6: going around right now.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Speaking of NFL Network, Matt Jude Judan was on yesterday
- 22:10Speaker 3: and he's on today too. Yeah, and he's on today too,
- 22:12Speaker 3: but he was talking about Matt Jones and you know,
- 22:15Speaker 3: defended him, and you know he was.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Gonna, He's gonna when everything was perfect, he was pretty good.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:19Speaker 5: He also said that he wants the Patriots to trade down.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Oh is that what he said?
- 22:24Speaker 5: I said trade down? And he said all these quarterbacks,
- 22:26Speaker 5: everybody hypes them up and then they all stink, So
- 22:29Speaker 5: trade down and accumulated.
- 22:30Speaker 4: He said they all stink.
- 22:31Speaker 5: He didn't say stink, but yes.
- 22:34Speaker 6: What did he say, brock Bowers, I saw something like that.
- 22:36Speaker 5: I don't know, I don't know who if he put
- 22:38Speaker 5: a name to the claim, but he said he wants
- 22:40Speaker 5: the Patriots to trade down, accumulate assets, and go out
- 22:43Speaker 5: and get more offensive weapons.
- 22:44Speaker 3: You know, here's here's how crazy I am. My muscle memory.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I'm thinking to myself, I bet you Bill hates when
- 22:50Speaker 3: he says all this stuff. Yeah, they're not here anymore anymore.
- 22:56Speaker 4: As a Patriots fan, Like I take this part of
- 22:59Speaker 4: it away. I don't like him, So I can imagine
- 23:03Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised if if coaches don't like that.
- 23:05Speaker 6: Now, I think, I mean, I kind of with the
- 23:07Speaker 6: eye kind of on your team. The act is kind
- 23:10Speaker 6: of warnt thin with every off season him like, you know,
- 23:12Speaker 6: joking the recruiting guys.
- 23:14Speaker 4: If there's like one guy that you maybe have a
- 23:16Speaker 4: relationship with and it's you know, like the Lebron you know,
- 23:20Speaker 4: like someone who every team would obviously love to have.
- 23:23Speaker 4: And that's different. But when you openly solicit every single
- 23:26Speaker 4: guy who's available all the time, what is that sight
- 23:28Speaker 4: to your teammates?
- 23:29Speaker 6: It's like my cat, like every time someone gets released
- 23:31Speaker 6: and he does the Patriot and it's like, are you
- 23:34Speaker 6: just doing it now or are you serious?
- 23:36Speaker 4: Like what are we doing? Like do you think you
- 23:38Speaker 4: And maybe he would, I mean, if you ask Matthew,
- 23:40Speaker 4: maybe he would feel fine. But like if if Hunter
- 23:45Speaker 4: Henry said, oh, you know, hey, von Miller, why don't
- 23:50Speaker 4: you come here. We need a pass rusher, We need
- 23:53Speaker 4: someone who can actually get after the quarterback, you know, like,
- 23:55Speaker 4: would you feel okay with that? Yeah? Right now? You know,
- 23:58Speaker 4: And maybe Matthew would. Maybe he would take it as
- 24:00Speaker 4: a joke.
- 24:01Speaker 6: I don't know, But stuff with judn't because he is
- 24:03Speaker 6: he's pretty funny. You can't, you know, you never take
- 24:04Speaker 6: anything he says too seriously.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I'm just saying that if I was
- 24:09Speaker 4: a teammate, why is he always looking to replace me?
- 24:12Speaker 6: He's looking good though, this Jean Jack at the eighties Acid.
- 24:16Speaker 4: So where's mac Jones going?
- 24:17Speaker 6: I missed, like, oh there was just like you know,
- 24:19Speaker 6: reports from Indy where that if the forty nine ers
- 24:21Speaker 6: had had Mac Jones they'd have at least two Super Bowls.
- 24:24Speaker 6: And I wanted to like tweet like a picture of
- 24:25Speaker 6: Patrick Mahomes and be like yeah, right.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Okay, oh right, then if mac Jones was the Niners
- 24:32Speaker 4: quarterback and everything was the same, they'd have got knocked
- 24:35Speaker 4: out by Green Bay in the wildcard round.
- 24:37Speaker 6: And there it is.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Somebody speaking of the forty nine ers. Somebody had something
- 24:41Speaker 3: to say about Trey Lance either yesterday the day before
- 24:45Speaker 3: about how uh he thinks that he's gonna come back
- 24:49Speaker 3: and prove people wrong.
- 24:51Speaker 6: He quite the comeback. I mean, we talked about one
- 24:53Speaker 6: hundred times. He's just he hasn't played any football going
- 24:55Speaker 6: back to college like with COVID, and I mean, you know, I.
- 24:58Speaker 5: Mean, he hasn't played an actual football season since like
- 25:00Speaker 5: twenty nineteen, which is wild.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Five years ago.
- 25:04Speaker 6: So I don't know. I mean, I'm sure i'd love
- 25:06Speaker 6: to hear what he's doing, you know, because I mean,
- 25:08Speaker 6: hopefully he's fresh.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Would you rather have Trey Lance or Zach Wilson?
- 25:12Speaker 6: Trey Lance because of the unknown, Like I mean, then
- 25:14Speaker 6: that's not because I think he's.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Better, it's just but it's not a great I'm all
- 25:19Speaker 4: set on both.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Okay. Would you rather have Sam Darnold or Trey Lance?
- 25:24Speaker 6: Again, probably Trey Lance, just because I could talk myself
- 25:27Speaker 6: into it. I don't maybe he'll all of a sudden
- 25:29Speaker 6: now he's fully healthy.
- 25:31Speaker 4: There's nothing there, but I'd like to find out for sure.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Would you rather have Bailey Zappi or Trey Lance?
- 25:36Speaker 4: Of course? Definitely?
- 25:41Speaker 3: Okay?
- 25:42Speaker 2: Good?
- 25:42Speaker 3: Uh Chad Atlanta. I simply do not understand the hate
- 25:47Speaker 3: J McCarthy. I'm not saying he should be taking at
- 25:49Speaker 3: number one, but he wouldn't be someone I'd be afraid
- 25:53Speaker 3: to take in the top ten. If the Patriots could
- 25:55Speaker 3: trade back to eight with Atlanta while picking up some
- 25:58Speaker 3: extra picks, I take a shit on JJ. They could
- 26:01Speaker 3: also use the Atlanta picks to trade back up if
- 26:04Speaker 3: they wanted.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I would like to challenge people that our JJ McCarthy
- 26:08Speaker 5: supporters don't don't pull one throw like no, don't pull
- 26:12Speaker 5: the highlight reel off of YouTube and showed show like
- 26:16Speaker 5: break down in a well thought out manner of why
- 26:21Speaker 5: this guy is a top ten pick, right, like explain
- 26:24Speaker 5: to explain it to me.
- 26:25Speaker 3: And then the other thing that we heard is, well,
- 26:26Speaker 3: he's going to go to the combine, he's gonna throw
- 26:28Speaker 3: and he's going to show people that he's got a
- 26:30Speaker 3: better on these and he didn't.
- 26:31Speaker 4: But those people think that he did. They did. That's like,
- 26:34Speaker 4: that's the Yeah, I've never seen an element like this.
- 26:37Speaker 4: I don't think he threw well, but there's an element
- 26:39Speaker 4: that thinks he blew up the combine.
- 26:41Speaker 5: I have never seen anything like it, at least in
- 26:44Speaker 5: twenty one with Zach Wilson. He did impress at all
- 26:48Speaker 5: of these things, like his Pro day, he was really
- 26:51Speaker 5: really impressive throwing the football. JJ McCarthy's done nothing to
- 26:56Speaker 5: help his stock, and all of a sudden he's a
- 26:57Speaker 5: top ten pick. I've never seen anything like that.
- 27:00Speaker 4: If you can give the quarterback eleven seconds to throw
- 27:02Speaker 4: the was an impressive throw.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah, let's see Jeff and uh Brooklyn. What do you
- 27:10Speaker 3: guys think of a trade down, get some picks, take penix.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I mean, aside from injuries and maybe age, what's the
- 27:17Speaker 3: knock on him?
- 27:18Speaker 4: To me?
- 27:19Speaker 3: He, in theory doesn't have the upside of the other
- 27:21Speaker 3: top three guys. But his floor seems pretty high, and
- 27:24Speaker 3: I think he might actually be really solid solid, like good,
- 27:27Speaker 3: not solid, like we're settling.
- 27:30Speaker 5: Thoughts thirty four. If you want to take Penix, if
- 27:33Speaker 5: he if you're convinced that Penix is your guy for
- 27:36Speaker 5: whatever reason, he's going to be there at thirty four,
- 27:38Speaker 5: there's no reason to take him in the top ten.
- 27:41Speaker 6: Just trying to limit red flags this year.
- 27:42Speaker 4: I would just disagree about the floor. I think his
- 27:45Speaker 4: floor is significant.
- 27:46Speaker 6: It's literally on the ground because he's injured and he
- 27:47Speaker 6: can't get out.
- 27:48Speaker 4: And I'm not telling you I'm not interested in Pennis.
- 27:51Speaker 4: I like Panix, I said on Tuesday.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I think kind of like him too.
- 27:54Speaker 4: I think you can make an argument he's the best
- 27:55Speaker 4: passer out of all of these guys. But you're overlooking
- 27:59Speaker 4: something very significant. If you think his floor is high,
- 28:02Speaker 4: his floor is probably as low as any of them
- 28:04Speaker 4: because of the injuries.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I would also say that he can't hand He does
- 28:07Speaker 5: not handle pressure well, like pressure in the pocket. I'm
- 28:10Speaker 5: not talking about like outside pressure. So in terms of
- 28:13Speaker 5: actual film, to take the durability and the injury concerns
- 28:16Speaker 5: out of it, there are reasons you turn on you know,
- 28:19Speaker 5: the Oregon game, the Michigan game where he did face
- 28:21Speaker 5: some pressure and it's not pretty. So I don't think
- 28:24Speaker 5: that he's this, you know, flawless prospect even on film either.
- 28:29Speaker 5: But he should be there. I would think at thirty
- 28:31Speaker 5: four because of the injuries. I just don't see people
- 28:34Speaker 5: taking a risk in the first Do.
- 28:35Speaker 4: You remember when the Patriots took Dominique Easley in the
- 28:37Speaker 4: first round? Yeap, what was the risk?
- 28:40Speaker 3: His knees, right was what happened?
- 28:42Speaker 4: That's like, that's floor. The floor there is that he's
- 28:46Speaker 4: injury prone and he keeps getting hurt. Yeah, like that's
- 28:50Speaker 4: and then he was that's not insignificant.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I'll never remember the walk when he comes in on
- 28:53Speaker 3: that first day with the guys and everyone looked at
- 28:57Speaker 3: his knees and like you can't even.
- 28:59Speaker 4: Walk, friends, Fred goes he's limping. Now he's like whispering
- 29:02Speaker 4: to me he could get up. It wasn't like the
- 29:05Speaker 4: football player, you know, like Teddy Bruski had a limb.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Yeah, well he did like normalise yeah.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yeah, well teacher wise everything he's just arms and legs everywhere,
- 29:15Speaker 4: but his his his knees looked like they were about
- 29:18Speaker 4: to crack.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, yeah, I saw that. I saw that
- 29:21Speaker 6: when he came out. I mean, but I remember being intrigued,
- 29:23Speaker 6: just being like, you know, when you watched his really
- 29:25Speaker 6: good film from Florida, how quick he was off the ball,
- 29:28Speaker 6: and it was like, wow, this is you know. There
- 29:30Speaker 6: was so much conversation about with Brady, like the way
- 29:32Speaker 6: you gotta get Brady is up the pressure up the middle,
- 29:34Speaker 6: and it was like, this guy looks like he's a
- 29:35Speaker 6: pressure up the middle. Factory never worked out.
- 29:38Speaker 4: And I just want to go back to that JJ
- 29:40Speaker 4: McCarthy think, because I I don't hate JJ McCarthy and
- 29:43Speaker 4: I don't want to be characterized as I don't see
- 29:46Speaker 4: anything there. I think the other three are markedly better
- 29:49Speaker 4: than he is. But the thing that I that I
- 29:52Speaker 4: can't get past. And and this is something we talked
- 29:55Speaker 4: about on Tuesday also, but Lewis Riddick tweeted about this
- 29:59Speaker 4: sort of finger wagging people like me evidently who you know,
- 30:04Speaker 4: if you think that JJ McCarthy can't do this because
- 30:07Speaker 4: you haven't seen it, then you're not analyzing, you know.
- 30:09Speaker 4: I'm paraphrasing the tweet and I agree with him, But
- 30:13Speaker 4: that's why I'm kind of out on him. I've seen
- 30:15Speaker 4: the other guys do it. I haven't seen him do it. Right,
- 30:18Speaker 4: that doesn't mean I don't think he can. And I said,
- 30:21Speaker 4: I feel like there are a lot of comparisons to
- 30:24Speaker 4: mac Jones being made there. I think that athletically he
- 30:26Speaker 4: blows mac Jones away.
- 30:28Speaker 5: He's more physically talented guy, like I.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Think he has a lot more ability than mac Jones.
- 30:32Speaker 4: The similarity is they're both seemingly rising up in the
- 30:36Speaker 4: first round as we get from the season to the draft.
- 30:40Speaker 4: That's the similarity to me. And now I'm not telling
- 30:43Speaker 4: you I wouldn't take him, but I think the other
- 30:45Speaker 4: three guys have done more and shown that they can
- 30:48Speaker 4: do it. If you believe in McCarthy, you're believing in
- 30:51Speaker 4: something that he hasn't shown you yet. Yeah, and that
- 30:54Speaker 4: makes you right. If you're right, you're right.
- 30:56Speaker 6: I totally agree. And that's the kind of guys that, like,
- 30:58Speaker 6: I just don't feel like at this stage of where
- 30:59Speaker 6: you aren't rebuild, that you can afford to kind of
- 31:01Speaker 6: take those chances of like, well it's not really there,
- 31:04Speaker 6: but we think we can get them there. I just
- 31:06Speaker 6: prefer them this year. Whatever position it is to take
- 31:09Speaker 6: guys that you've seen it there, you know it can fit.
- 31:11Speaker 6: Is he going to turn out to be great pro
- 31:13Speaker 6: there's always you know, you're always tossing the dice and
- 31:15Speaker 6: you don't know for sure. But and it's weird because
- 31:18Speaker 6: like I don't want to say that I want guys
- 31:19Speaker 6: with high floors, like because I think they need talent,
- 31:22Speaker 6: you know, I think they need they need guys with
- 31:24Speaker 6: high floors and high ceilings. You know, that's what they need.
- 31:26Speaker 4: And that's where Evan talks about Panis a little bit. Yeah,
- 31:30Speaker 4: there's a low floor there, but the talent part of it.
- 31:33Speaker 4: He's a really good passer, but he's not really high
- 31:38Speaker 4: end at all. A lot of other stuff. Now, I
- 31:40Speaker 4: think that he does seem like he gets a lot
- 31:43Speaker 4: out of it because I think he is a really
- 31:45Speaker 4: good leader. He's really respect us. I think that, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 4: for two different programs, he was the centerpiece of their success.
- 31:53Speaker 4: So there's a lot to like about Panis. But Evan's right, like,
- 31:56Speaker 4: it's not high end quote unquote talent.
- 31:59Speaker 5: Yeah, Jim McCarthy. What frustrates me about j J. McCarthy
- 32:03Speaker 5: has nothing to do with him. It's just The propaganda
- 32:06Speaker 5: that has come out from NFL media about JJ McCarthy
- 32:09Speaker 5: in this draft process is I've never seen anything like
- 32:12Speaker 5: it in my time covering the draft. I've never seen
- 32:15Speaker 5: a pr campaign like this for a quarterback to prop
- 32:18Speaker 5: up a quarterback that he's this top ten talent when
- 32:21Speaker 5: it's just simply not there on film like that.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Good, then then Jim Harbaugh should take him and trade Herbert.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I said that before.
- 32:27Speaker 4: My brother said that to me. Yeah, Tuesday, he goes,
- 32:29Speaker 4: you know, it's just he's the best quarterback. Well, maybe
- 32:32Speaker 4: you know it's too bad at the clock, he goes,
- 32:34Speaker 4: it's too bad that he has Herbert, so you're not
- 32:35Speaker 4: going to know like you. I said, Well, if he
- 32:37Speaker 4: makes as good as he's saying he is, he should
- 32:40Speaker 4: be dealing Herbert for like multiple ones and taking this guy.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:44Speaker 6: Yeah, it was better than him, right.
- 32:46Speaker 5: I mean I was listening to Greg co Sell talk
- 32:47Speaker 5: about him this morning, and uh and Greg Cosell is
- 32:50Speaker 5: just ripping him for two straight minutes on this podcast
- 32:53Speaker 5: about all the things that he struggles with, and I'm like,
- 32:55Speaker 5: this is what's on the tape. Like you you can
- 32:57Speaker 5: talk about it as like this, you know, Pie in
- 33:00Speaker 5: the sky. This is what he could be, you know,
- 33:02Speaker 5: two years from now. But if you're the Patriots, are
- 33:05Speaker 5: you taking a guy that you have to wait two
- 33:07Speaker 5: years for him to be even maybe scratching the surface,
- 33:11Speaker 5: or are you need somebody right now? You can't wait that.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Long Chris and fort Worth, He says Evan, But this
- 33:17Speaker 3: could be for anyone. What's worse drafting McCarthy at three
- 33:20Speaker 3: or drafting cold strange in twenty twenty two.
- 33:23Speaker 5: Oh, I don't know, I don't know. I don't need
- 33:26Speaker 5: to relive the cold Strange pick.
- 33:29Speaker 4: My answer strange, Probably.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Strange just because he's a guard.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and at.
- 33:33Speaker 6: The point of where that that Patriots team was and
- 33:35Speaker 6: how much they needed to nail that pick and they
- 33:38Speaker 6: just totally flow.
- 33:39Speaker 4: The people that are high on McCarthy, they might be right.
- 33:43Speaker 4: Maybe he could do more than he was asked to
- 33:45Speaker 4: do at Michigan and he does it in the NFL
- 33:47Speaker 4: like that. To me, everybody else thought was a fifth
- 33:50Speaker 4: round pick, right.
- 33:51Speaker 6: This is like if they said, like, well, what you know,
- 33:53Speaker 6: ninety nine would take Tom Brady at three over all?
- 33:55Speaker 6: Like what, No, that's ridiculous.
- 33:56Speaker 4: But hey, J. J.
- 33:58Speaker 5: McCarthy genius, The biggest issue that I have with him
- 34:01Speaker 5: isn't even about the Michigan offense. He can't control the ball.
- 34:04Speaker 5: His accuracy is wild. And he also he's a one
- 34:08Speaker 5: speed thrower. He's all velocity. He has no touch on
- 34:11Speaker 5: the ball. He doesn't control it well. That type of
- 34:14Speaker 5: stuff is really difficult to just all of a sudden boom,
- 34:18Speaker 5: you get it. Like, you know, he throws a five
- 34:20Speaker 5: yard you know, crossing route the same way he's gonna
- 34:22Speaker 5: throw fifteen yard out. You can't do that. It's just
- 34:25Speaker 5: leaving yards on the field. And he does it constantly.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Jared and Vermont, I'm going to be a big time
- 34:30Speaker 3: homer in this instance. And just admit I'm probably going
- 34:32Speaker 3: to be happy with whatever they do with their first
- 34:34Speaker 3: round pick. May Daniel LT Harrison trade back. All of
- 34:37Speaker 3: those scenarios right, chiming in. All of those scenarios make
- 34:40Speaker 3: sense to me. No one knows what they're talking about, Okay,
- 34:44Speaker 3: well we got to talk.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Then those are two different things, like you can because
- 34:49Speaker 4: I'm kind of like the emailer here, believe it or not,
- 34:51Speaker 4: I would be happy, I think with any of the
- 34:53Speaker 4: three quarterbacks. I would be happy if they said, you
- 34:55Speaker 4: know what, I like two of them and the one.
- 34:57Speaker 4: The two that I liked were one two and I
- 35:00Speaker 4: how to go in a different direction, went with Marvin
- 35:02Speaker 4: Harrison or trade it. I could absolutely be wishy watching
- 35:06Speaker 4: and talk myself into all three of those scenarios. It
- 35:09Speaker 4: has nothing to do with nobody knows what they're talking about. Yes,
- 35:11Speaker 4: we don't know who they're gonna pick. Yeah, we get it,
- 35:14Speaker 4: Like I the shot at us that has to constantly
- 35:18Speaker 4: accompany these people, like it's just so tiring. Yeah, I
- 35:22Speaker 4: don't get that. But yeah, I don't know who they're
- 35:24Speaker 4: gonna pick. I'm not not in the meetings. Let's see
- 35:26Speaker 4: what that will get it.
- 35:26Speaker 6: They don't get those is that we don't care, like
- 35:28Speaker 6: it's fun and we like looking at these guys and
- 35:30Speaker 6: it's like, oh imagine you get this guy like that.
- 35:32Speaker 4: We won't do any shows, we won't do any analysis.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Like well, I just feel it pull me back the
- 35:36Speaker 4: day after Sun Draft. It's a fool's errand I don't
- 35:38Speaker 4: know what they're gonna do.
- 35:39Speaker 5: I feel like that Paul's hundred percent right, and your
- 35:41Speaker 5: boy Felger does it all the time where it's like
- 35:44Speaker 5: the mock drafters are terrible it's like, it's not about
- 35:46Speaker 5: the mock drafts, Like I could care less if my
- 35:48Speaker 5: mock draft is right or not. We all know that
- 35:50Speaker 5: we're just throwing darts against the board when it comes
- 35:52Speaker 5: to the mock drafts.
- 35:53Speaker 3: I'm obliged to tell you and remind you that if
- 35:56Speaker 3: you want to see Toyota's best offers, including those not
- 35:59Speaker 3: seen on TV, go to buy at toyota dot com.
- 36:02Speaker 3: It's Toyota's official website for deals from the official vehicle
- 36:05Speaker 3: of the New England Patriots, Toyota. Let's Go Draft JJ McCarthy.
- 36:09Speaker 6: No, let me let me ask since she's talked about Felger,
- 36:13Speaker 6: I got to bring this out. So this is like
- 36:14Speaker 6: one of his things, and I've heard it before, but
- 36:16Speaker 6: I just think he's absolutely ridiculous with Bill's boat thing
- 36:19Speaker 6: and naming it eight rings instead of six rings. And
- 36:22Speaker 6: then I'm thinking that I'm managing Paul, like walking driving
- 36:25Speaker 6: his boat with like six rings. I'm like, if it
- 36:28Speaker 6: was Paul or like a media member with but like
- 36:30Speaker 6: the guy has eight rings, like he wants to call
- 36:32Speaker 6: his boat when he wants, and he gets so worked
- 36:34Speaker 6: up about he takes credit for those two Super Bowls he.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Takes credit super Bowl like what he's got sick ring.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I mean it's not like, I mean there's a million
- 36:42Speaker 4: things to kill Felder about. That's not one nighte.
- 36:45Speaker 5: Every draft, every draft season, Felger attacks me in barth
- 36:49Speaker 5: like personally because he knows how much we get into
- 36:52Speaker 5: the draft. I like that he knows how much we
- 36:54Speaker 5: get into the draft, and he points and makes fun
- 36:57Speaker 5: at us because they do the Felger in Mas big
- 36:59Speaker 5: boy and his hit rate's just as good as our
- 37:02Speaker 5: hit raid and you know, YadA YadA YadA. So every
- 37:04Speaker 5: draft season I pull my hair out listening to them.
- 37:07Speaker 6: I actually, well, sorry, friend, I just to finish act
- 37:09Speaker 6: like they were funny. Yesterday though, they were talking about
- 37:11Speaker 6: are you somebody called in and they're like, well, it's
- 37:13Speaker 6: a new regime. Are you a little bit worried about
- 37:16Speaker 6: throwing darts? And they're like, to be honest, we kind
- 37:18Speaker 6: of are.
- 37:19Speaker 4: I did hear that? That was kind of funny. It's
- 37:22Speaker 4: funny like they think, like the mojo's thrown off because it's.
- 37:25Speaker 5: The best is is like, you know kind of that
- 37:26Speaker 5: we joke about. Deuce will come in in January and
- 37:29Speaker 5: tell me about some guy that Bart and I've been
- 37:31Speaker 5: talking for like six months. And it's funny because they
- 37:35Speaker 5: they'll like hit a dart on the board and they're
- 37:37Speaker 5: like Rome Dune and they have no idea who he is.
- 37:42Speaker 5: And when it's like a top ten pick is so.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Here's where I will kill this is like I said, like,
- 37:45Speaker 4: that's not one of the ones, you know, like.
- 37:47Speaker 6: Oh, it's a trivial, but I'll kill him.
- 37:50Speaker 4: They've gone on for two weeks telling you why Drake
- 37:53Speaker 4: May sucks and why Caleb Williams sucks when they openly
- 37:59Speaker 4: admit they do not watch any games. Yeah, so I
- 38:03Speaker 4: have to lik like I'm not like the emailer, Like
- 38:07Speaker 4: Chris Simms, he's a former quarterback. His father is, you know,
- 38:11Speaker 4: a Super Bowl champion. Yeah, I don't have to agree
- 38:14Speaker 4: with him. But I'll watch Kurt Warners breakdown of the Quarterbacks.
- 38:17Speaker 4: I'll watch General Lofsky's I'll I'll take it all in
- 38:21Speaker 4: and sort of try to sift through the information. Three
- 38:24Speaker 4: guys that openly admit they do not care and do
- 38:27Speaker 4: not watch anything, and they're telling me like, no, no,
- 38:31Speaker 4: that's ridiculous. Felger tell me it's ridiculous to start a
- 38:34Speaker 4: quarterback in day one and then somebody else zo in
- 38:38Speaker 4: the midday. Tell me it's ridiculous to take a guy
- 38:41Speaker 4: at three and not expect him to start on day one.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Like these guys openly admit they don't watch anything. Yeah,
- 38:48Speaker 4: who picks? Why am I? Why am I watching? Why
- 38:50Speaker 4: am I listening to that?
- 38:51Speaker 6: Who picks the names that they're throwing at? Like the
- 38:54Speaker 6: throwing the darts at? Like is it like barf picking
- 38:56Speaker 6: the names?
- 38:57Speaker 4: Or no? No, no no. In a magazine they roll markers
- 39:01Speaker 4: out and whatever the market hits. Yeah, okay, they do that.
- 39:03Speaker 4: But here's the thing that they don't tell you. They say,
- 39:05Speaker 4: Like they talk about the hit rate, they do three
- 39:09Speaker 4: for every position, So you're kind of up in your
- 39:14Speaker 4: rods that you're gonna get one.
- 39:15Speaker 3: And if you open the magazine to the top guys.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Like if you could pick like three, four or five
- 39:21Speaker 4: guys from every position every year, don't you think you'd
- 39:23Speaker 4: get one?
- 39:24Speaker 6: Well that's kind of what we do with the big board.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Polm.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Yeah, And yet I'm right, yet, and yet I was
- 39:30Speaker 4: trying to give you guys credit.
- 39:31Speaker 5: Just got one last year and zip before I would
- 39:33Speaker 5: just say with the former quarterbacks thing that you know,
- 39:36Speaker 5: all these guys now have an opinion on the current
- 39:38Speaker 5: quarterback class, and I what I noticed from them is
- 39:41Speaker 5: that they watch, they grade the twenty twenty three film
- 39:45Speaker 5: and they say, you know, this guy's the best right
- 39:48Speaker 5: now in college. But when it comes to the draft,
- 39:51Speaker 5: that that's not what You're not trying to draft the
- 39:53Speaker 5: best college quarterback. If you're trying to draft the draft
- 39:56Speaker 5: the best college quarterback, then Mac Jones would have gone
- 39:58Speaker 5: one to one in his draft, like he You know,
- 40:00Speaker 5: that's I think the difference that I see with their
- 40:02Speaker 5: rankings versus like draft media rankings, like a Dan Brugler
- 40:05Speaker 5: or Daniel Jeremiah projection. They're projecting how these guys are
- 40:09Speaker 5: gonna play in the league. Like I get that Drake
- 40:11Speaker 5: May has footwork issues and it might drive Dan Orlovsky
- 40:15Speaker 5: nuts that he has footwork issues, but somebody in the
- 40:18Speaker 5: league is saying, well, I'm gonna give him to avp.
- 40:21Speaker 5: Avp is gonna drill his footwork for six straight months
- 40:23Speaker 5: and we'll get it squared away.
- 40:25Speaker 4: You know.
- 40:25Speaker 5: Like that's the difference I think.
- 40:26Speaker 4: And I look at that funny too, and I'm with
- 40:29Speaker 4: you on this, and I think I saw you tweet
- 40:31Speaker 4: something about this f But like you have a guy
- 40:35Speaker 4: and Fred we were talking about this with Matt. If
- 40:37Speaker 4: you have a guy that has footwork issues but you
- 40:41Speaker 4: feel good about other stuff, like well, then you feel
- 40:44Speaker 4: good about the other stuff that you can't teach, right, Yeah,
- 40:46Speaker 4: Like I just come back and listen. Is he gonna
- 40:50Speaker 4: beat Josh Allen? He probably won't, right, Like, what are
- 40:53Speaker 4: the chances that two guys? But like Josh Allen played
- 40:56Speaker 4: pretty much right away. He played as a rookie, even
- 40:58Speaker 4: though he didn't start Week one eleven starts right, he
- 41:01Speaker 4: played as a rookie, and he was wild as hell.
- 41:04Speaker 4: Mike remember the game when he was throwing those passes
- 41:07Speaker 4: I always tell you about there was like it's like
- 41:11Speaker 4: three or four times you're like, this guy is all
- 41:13Speaker 4: over whoa did you see that one? Did you see
- 41:16Speaker 4: that one? It's like that whole thing about the scout
- 41:18Speaker 4: when you have the profile, when you're the six to
- 41:21Speaker 4: five guy who throws ninety five? Oh did you see that?
- 41:25Speaker 3: Ye? Did you see that?
- 41:26Speaker 4: They don't worry about that that he hit the bull
- 41:28Speaker 4: like nukle loosh, Right, you just sort of fixate on
- 41:31Speaker 4: the things that he does, right that to me is
- 41:33Speaker 4: Drake May. I can fix the mechanics dan Orlovski, I
- 41:37Speaker 4: can't fix the fact that these other guys don't have
- 41:40Speaker 4: the size, arm strength, mobility, toughness.
- 41:43Speaker 6: And that's that's that's why I want to go like,
- 41:45Speaker 6: let's just take a swing on him, and he has
- 41:47Speaker 6: some worts, But I don't need the mac tezes.
- 41:49Speaker 5: I think with Josh Allen because I did not like
- 41:52Speaker 5: Josh Allen coming out full disclosure.
- 41:54Speaker 4: Full disclosure. I absolutely loved him, Yeah, I.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Absolutely, But the one the one thing I learned from
- 41:59Speaker 5: the Josh Allen thing was that Josh Allen obviously had
- 42:03Speaker 5: all the physical tools, but his eyes were always in
- 42:06Speaker 5: the right places. The ball just didn't always go where
- 42:08Speaker 5: he wanted to go. And you can make it that
- 42:11Speaker 5: if you have a quarterback that can read the field,
- 42:14Speaker 5: that can see defenses, that can do all that, and
- 42:16Speaker 5: then has the physical tools, then you can fix things
- 42:19Speaker 5: on the margins. Can you can fine tune his release,
- 42:22Speaker 5: you can fix his footwork. What you can't do is
- 42:25Speaker 5: teach instincts and you can't teach physical tools. Like Zach
- 42:27Speaker 5: Wilson has all the physical tools in the world, he
- 42:30Speaker 5: doesn't know where to throw the football like you can't
- 42:32Speaker 5: fix that. It's really hard to train that.

- 44:06Speaker 7: As I think back over the past few seasons, I
- 44:09Speaker 7: wanted to thank my most trusted game day teammate, Toastitos.
- 44:15Speaker 7: As I recall the last minute grocery runs in late
- 44:18Speaker 7: night dishwashing, the salty defeats and spicy victories, I realize
- 44:24Speaker 7: it was all thanks to my teammate, Toastitos. It was
- 44:29Speaker 7: always you, Toastedos. Team up with Toastedos, the official chip
- 44:34Speaker 7: and Dip of the New England Patriots.
- 44:36Speaker 3: What's up, Everybody?
- 44:37Speaker 7: Patriots linebacker Matt Judon was on Good Morning Football. He
- 44:41Speaker 7: talked about his recovery from his bicep injury and impressions
- 44:44Speaker 7: of Drid Mayo as head coach.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Let's have a listen to what he had to say.
- 44:47Speaker 9: All right, start with your twenty twenty three season off
- 44:49Speaker 9: to a hot start. Your season was cut short though
- 44:52Speaker 9: with your bicep injury. Said, you haven't played since week before.
- 44:54Speaker 9: Your body feeling great. Now take us more into that.
- 44:56Speaker 9: How's the comeback going?
- 44:58Speaker 2: Well? Comeback going uh good?
- 45:00Speaker 10: You know, me and my trainer's Nick and Dan and Dallas,
- 45:04Speaker 10: we're just working hard to get back all the strength
- 45:07Speaker 10: and flexibility and we're there now. It's been a long
- 45:10Speaker 10: time and so uh so for that, I'm.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Doing really well. So let me ask you.
- 45:16Speaker 9: People say, like when an achilles happens, they like you
- 45:18Speaker 9: have that feeling roll up the back. What does a
- 45:21Speaker 9: bicep injury feel like?
- 45:23Speaker 2: When when I felt like like a rubber band hit me?
- 45:28Speaker 9: So you said, power in your arms, shoulder, just like
- 45:33Speaker 9: right where.
- 45:33Speaker 2: It happens attachment. So uh I was like, damn, it's
- 45:38Speaker 2: really hurting. For a minute, I was like I can't
- 45:42Speaker 2: really like mend it. You can't move, you can't pick
- 45:44Speaker 2: your arm up. Yeah I can't. I can't bend it.
- 45:46Speaker 10: And then uh, the worst the worst party is like
- 45:49Speaker 10: trying to get the pass in jersey off. Oh them, No, Yeah,
- 45:56Speaker 10: we still took it off. So I think if it's
- 45:59Speaker 10: like broke or dislocated, they do it. But that was like,
- 46:03Speaker 10: as your bodice have suck it up. So we took
- 46:05Speaker 10: it off and uh and then like uh, obviously I
- 46:10Speaker 10: had to shower, So I was like showering. Then couldn't
- 46:13Speaker 10: you with my right hand? I was all lefty And
- 46:17Speaker 10: then it was kind of hurting. But after that, uh,
- 46:20Speaker 10: you know, got the surgery.
- 46:22Speaker 2: And it started healing.
- 46:24Speaker 10: Really fast, and I was trying to come back. I
- 46:28Speaker 10: ain't get to come back this year, so uh, I
- 46:30Speaker 10: got a lot of story next year.
- 46:32Speaker 11: There you go, Patriots gotta do some healing, you know.
- 46:35Speaker 11: I mean you know that, but some with Belichick, though
- 46:38Speaker 11: you played for him for three years, what was it
- 46:40Speaker 11: like when you finally heard like coaches leaving.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Belichick was a great coach. Uh. I looked up to him.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Uh.
- 46:50Speaker 2: I think he was one of the best to ever
- 46:52Speaker 2: do it. Uh.
- 46:53Speaker 10: And at the clip that he did in the high
- 46:55Speaker 10: level IQ that he had, it.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Was it was amazing to learn from him.
- 47:00Speaker 10: But I think just with him leaving, I think it's
- 47:03Speaker 10: just new energy and new life in a building.
- 47:05Speaker 2: Uh.
- 47:06Speaker 10: You know, sometimes it's just time. And I think, uh,
- 47:09Speaker 10: it was just kind of.
- 47:09Speaker 2: One of those times.
- 47:10Speaker 10: And I think, uh, we went to hire Mayo and uh,
- 47:14Speaker 10: bringing bringing in somebody that's been actually there for those
- 47:18Speaker 10: years that kind of understand player perspective and coaching and
- 47:23Speaker 10: also how uh how coach Belichick actually ran the system.
- 47:30Speaker 10: I think of bringing somebody like that instead of somebody
- 47:33Speaker 10: that's outside that didn't.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Know at all, uh kind of helped us.
- 47:37Speaker 10: It kind of helped us because I think Mao seeing
- 47:41Speaker 10: it going one way and he kind of trying to
- 47:43Speaker 10: get it to go a different way. And so right
- 47:46Speaker 10: there we got a we got new life, we got
- 47:48Speaker 10: new you know, expectations, and right right now we just
- 47:52Speaker 10: we all getting healthy and all getting back.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:54Speaker 10: But I think when we start, we're all gonna try
- 47:57Speaker 10: to kind of run through a wall for Mao, because
- 48:00Speaker 10: he always had our back throughout everything that we go through.
- 48:04Speaker 10: We always kind of will go talk to him and
- 48:06Speaker 10: he will understand and he'd be like, all right, I talked,
- 48:08Speaker 10: I had his.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Kind of talk.
- 48:09Speaker 10: I had his kind of talk, and then he would
- 48:11Speaker 10: come to us. And also just talk to us.
- 48:15Speaker 12: It's interesting because the Patriots for twenty three years with
- 48:17Speaker 12: Belichick and Brady and now it's his different eraror and
- 48:21Speaker 12: it's Mayo and the vibe you're talking about how his
- 48:25Speaker 12: press conference was so different than any Bill Belichick press conference.
- 48:28Speaker 12: Mayo gets up there and he immediately is like, Okay,
- 48:31Speaker 12: ask me questions. He's smiling, he's laughing. Do you feel
- 48:35Speaker 12: I would say a light in this building right now? Like,
- 48:38Speaker 12: do you feel like it's a little lighter and it's
- 48:39Speaker 12: a little less heavy and disciplinary. I don't say disiplinary,
- 48:43Speaker 12: because I think Mayo is quite disciplined. I mean just
- 48:46Speaker 12: no days off, no days off, no windows.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Like does it feel little different?
- 48:51Speaker 3: Uh?
- 48:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah? But who that's who Mayo is. That's a man.
- 48:55Speaker 10: He'd let his personality shine. He'd let who he is
- 48:59Speaker 10: be a front. I think coach Belichick was like that too,
- 49:03Speaker 10: but he was he was like that behind closed doors
- 49:05Speaker 10: because he didn't want you to portray him in a
- 49:07Speaker 10: certain way. And Mayo is like, what, this is who I am.
- 49:11Speaker 10: This is who I've always been. I've been in the
- 49:13Speaker 10: media before, you know, I had highs and lows in
- 49:17Speaker 10: a game of football before y'all talked to me.
- 49:20Speaker 2: I've been in the media.
- 49:21Speaker 10: I had to do the personnel conference with that all
- 49:25Speaker 10: the coaches do. And that's how he always was. He said, Okay,
- 49:28Speaker 10: I'm gonna speak my mind. I'm gonna say what I
- 49:31Speaker 10: need to say, and then that's gonna be it. And
- 49:34Speaker 10: so that's that's who he is. He's gonna laugh, he's
- 49:36Speaker 10: gonna joke with you, but he's also going to discipline
- 49:39Speaker 10: you to it. I don't think, I don't think like
- 49:42Speaker 10: he's a soft guy.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Yeah, like he was. He was top ten for a reason.
- 49:47Speaker 10: Like he's not soft, and he he's also a leader
- 49:51Speaker 10: of men, but he just does it in a different way.
- 49:53Speaker 2: It's just like you said, it's just a new bod.
- 49:56Speaker 9: I mean, you have to consider, like those two guys
- 49:59Speaker 9: are allowed to be that way. Like Belichick came out
- 50:01Speaker 9: and emerged from a completely different coaching era where that
- 50:04Speaker 9: was kind of that was the norm. It was like
- 50:06Speaker 9: you show your smile when the door is closed, and
- 50:09Speaker 9: like it's only for a flash. Like Gerard in this
- 50:11Speaker 9: new age of like he's a younger, he was a
- 50:13Speaker 9: player and he was around these guys, like I think
- 50:15Speaker 9: he just equipped himself as a different type of head coach.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:19Speaker 10: I think like when coach Belichick started, media wasn't like
- 50:25Speaker 10: that big, right, Yeah, it wasn't that big, and media
- 50:29Speaker 10: wasn't always around, and a camera wasn't always in your
- 50:32Speaker 10: face and stuff, and you can kind of hide some
- 50:35Speaker 10: stuff and kind of sweep some stuff under the world.
- 50:38Speaker 2: And now it's not like that.
- 50:39Speaker 10: Now it's like, maybe you'll starting quarterback, might have a
- 50:43Speaker 10: camera crew with him at all time. And so I
- 50:46Speaker 10: think Mayo is just adapting to that. He's adapting that.
- 50:50Speaker 10: He's everything's going to be new for the first three
- 50:53Speaker 10: hundred and sixty five.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Everything is going to be new to.
- 50:56Speaker 10: Him because he's been in this position, but he's never
- 50:58Speaker 10: been in a head coaching answa.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Well, you said you.
- 51:01Speaker 11: Liked Belichick, like you know, people maybe like him, don't
- 51:03Speaker 11: like him. You're a Belichick guy. He likes playing for him.
- 51:06Speaker 11: What did you think when he leaves the Patriots and
- 51:08Speaker 11: then doesn't get another job and no one hires him.
- 51:11Speaker 10: I think he has done it a certain way for
- 51:15Speaker 10: so long. I think it's just hard to come to terms,
- 51:18Speaker 10: and I think people had to move faster. It's not
- 51:21Speaker 10: like you can play some franchise tag on a coach,
- 51:25Speaker 10: it's like, Okay, we got to get this done now,
- 51:28Speaker 10: because you got to start up valuating, you got to
- 51:30Speaker 10: put together your coaches.
- 51:32Speaker 2: You got to start doing this.
- 51:34Speaker 10: And if you can't get that done kind of fast
- 51:37Speaker 10: kind of coaching carousel, you kind of just move on
- 51:39Speaker 10: to the next year.
- 51:40Speaker 12: That's in case from someone to say to you, Hey,
- 51:42Speaker 12: we're thinking about hiring Bill Belichick as the head coach
- 51:44Speaker 12: next year. It's seventy three. Would Matthew ch Don say, hell, yeah,
- 51:47Speaker 12: go hire that guy?
- 51:48Speaker 2: Would I would? I would say hire that guy.
- 51:51Speaker 10: He's going to be great for the organization, He's going
- 51:54Speaker 10: to be great for the team. And then I I
- 51:58Speaker 10: will also have to tell him about like the downfalls,
- 52:01Speaker 10: Like you know, it might not be too many smiles
- 52:05Speaker 10: you get out to do. It might not be too
- 52:06Speaker 10: many lasting jokes you might have got to get out
- 52:09Speaker 10: on with the media and stuff and the press. Might
- 52:11Speaker 10: you know, you're gonna have to have some pushback on that.
- 52:14Speaker 10: Sou But I think as a higher as a head coach,
- 52:18Speaker 10: like you couldn't get it's hard to get.
- 52:21Speaker 13: Better when someone accidentally threw the school player costumes. Oh
- 52:27Speaker 13: no replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof
- 52:30Speaker 13: of delivery, everybody could focus on the perfect opening night
- 52:34Speaker 13: FedEx where now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 52:39Speaker 2: And now great moments in.
- 52:44Speaker 3: History.
- 52:44Speaker 5: Oh, Eric, honey, let me tell you it's possible to
- 52:48Speaker 5: be boyd.
- 52:48Speaker 6: We've been listening to you for all these years. Wow,
- 52:54Speaker 6: all right, both, this is it to decide it? Miss Megan,
- 52:58Speaker 6: Miss Meghan.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Who do you got? I assume you are? You on mute?
- 53:09Speaker 3: Oh? The suspense a tie lit?
- 53:14Speaker 4: It's fitting, isn't it?
- 53:17Speaker 6: Thank you for joining me.
- 53:23Speaker 4: But for those of you playing at home, we have.
- 53:25Speaker 7: The rules clearly say that I have to make up
- 53:27Speaker 7: the final uh tie vote, so and I have to
- 53:29Speaker 7: go with Fred on that one.
- 53:30Speaker 4: All right, you are an ass kisser. You already have
- 53:35Speaker 4: the job right.
- 53:36Speaker 6: Watch me shake my head at your impressions just now.
- 53:39Speaker 7: Ask been calling it fair.
- 53:41Speaker 6: Somebody give morell napkin or a clean she's gonna wipe
- 53:44Speaker 6: the stuff is falling.
- 53:49Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 53:54Speaker 3: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered, no phones but
- 53:58Speaker 3: web radio at patriots dot com in case you want
- 54:00Speaker 3: to email us. Yeah, that was what was that? The
- 54:04Speaker 3: accent off or the impression off.
- 54:06Speaker 6: So it wasn't really great for radio because Meghan didn't
- 54:08Speaker 6: say who she picked. She just held it up. I
- 54:10Speaker 6: don't know what she was doing. That's why she went
- 54:11Speaker 6: to TV.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but I won that fair and square.
- 54:16Speaker 6: So Megan like dropped off.
- 54:18Speaker 4: That's what happened.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Yeah, which was it?
- 54:20Speaker 6: It wasn't a zoom was it?
- 54:21Speaker 7: She was on zoom that day?
- 54:24Speaker 6: It was rough.
- 54:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't really remember that day.
- 54:27Speaker 3: You don't remember the impression off.
- 54:30Speaker 4: I do remember that. I don't remember like Megan dramatically
- 54:34Speaker 4: trying to make a pick or a voted great moments.
- 54:38Speaker 4: I remember Christian Chris with a T I A and
- 54:41Speaker 4: he chimed in with votes. One of the times we
- 54:44Speaker 4: did that. Ye, plus the one I really remember was
- 54:47Speaker 4: was you and Andy. That's the one that little girl
- 54:49Speaker 4: and Dusel doorf That's the one. I don't think you
- 54:51Speaker 4: can find anymore.
- 54:52Speaker 3: What context was that.
- 54:53Speaker 4: I think we scrubbed that one from the internet.
- 54:56Speaker 3: Oh, but that it was still me and Eric.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you probably. Oh, maybe I was wrong. Maybe
- 55:04Speaker 4: it's still available. It shouldn't.
- 55:06Speaker 6: That's all you're allowed to say.
- 55:08Speaker 3: It's all in fun, Paul, I know, Jake and which
- 55:11Speaker 3: the rest of the world agreed with Jake and Melbourne Australia.
- 55:15Speaker 3: If Pennix didn't have his injuries, where would he rank
- 55:17Speaker 3: in this class of quarterbacks if he didn't have the injuries,
- 55:22Speaker 3: if that wasn't an issue.
- 55:24Speaker 5: Q four This is where I have I'm still before, Yeah,
- 55:27Speaker 5: because I don't, like, I'm not a doctor. I'm not
- 55:29Speaker 5: going to sit here and like look at his x
- 55:31Speaker 5: rays and stuff like that.
- 55:32Speaker 3: So Cuby Funny might be fourth in the first round.
- 55:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I maybe, yeah, yeah maybe yeah maybe Like in
- 55:39Speaker 5: the team he.
- 55:40Speaker 4: Would definitively be ahead of McCarthy.
- 55:42Speaker 5: For me, yes, okay, yeah, way more consistent. Yeah, but
- 55:47Speaker 5: sounds right to me.
- 55:48Speaker 4: I don't know. I'm not good at that.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Q before.
- 55:51Speaker 6: That's ranking things.
- 55:52Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I'm not like the Jordan Travis thing the
- 55:56Speaker 4: other day. I told when you guys were still in Indie,
- 55:59Speaker 4: my initial doubt was I don't think he was that hot.
- 56:01Speaker 4: But I was like, maybe I was wrong, And then
- 56:03Speaker 4: I looked it up and I did see that he
- 56:05Speaker 4: was a Day three guy even before the injury staffs.
- 56:08Speaker 6: Scrap.
- 56:08Speaker 3: I'll tell you I forgot after the break. I have
- 56:11Speaker 3: another read. It's a quick one, easy to drink, easy
- 56:13Speaker 3: to enjoy, dipep but Light, the official beer sponsor of
- 56:17Speaker 3: the New England Patriots.
- 56:18Speaker 6: I've actually memorized that one.
- 56:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like, wait, let's hear it.
- 56:22Speaker 6: Easy to drink, easy to enjoy, bud Light, the official
- 56:25Speaker 6: beer sponsor of the New England Patriots.
- 56:27Speaker 4: There you go.
- 56:28Speaker 5: Okay, the job is your copy without So do we
- 56:31Speaker 5: not have to read it on Tuesday now because we
- 56:33Speaker 5: did to today?
- 56:34Speaker 4: Well, I just wanted to, you know, I was I
- 56:36Speaker 4: stepped on a little bit.
- 56:38Speaker 5: I'll be giving out free advertising.
- 56:41Speaker 3: Feel free to give out free bud Light. I'll take that.
- 56:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah, celts L from Wisconsin writes in uh, there
- 56:49Speaker 3: are some scenarios in which I won't be happy. One
- 56:53Speaker 3: they trade down. I think there's enough talent worthy to
- 56:56Speaker 3: take at three to keep the pick and take it.
- 56:59Speaker 3: Two they take a tackle. Can't wait to have another
- 57:02Speaker 3: four win team, but a solid tackle on the line.
- 57:06Speaker 3: In three, they take bo Nicks.
- 57:07Speaker 4: Need I explain this is at three?
- 57:10Speaker 5: Well, bo Nix isn't going.
- 57:12Speaker 3: I think he meant I think anywhere he says, you know, yeah.
- 57:16Speaker 5: Bo Nix is interesting because he's Daniel Jeremiah uses Alex
- 57:22Speaker 5: Smith as a comp for bow Knicks, where he's got
- 57:25Speaker 5: really good accuracy within twenty I mean, he's at the
- 57:27Speaker 5: completion record in college football. So it's not he's got accuracy,
- 57:32Speaker 5: he's just not aggressive, Like he doesn't attack down the
- 57:35Speaker 5: field aggressively like some of these other guys do. So
- 57:38Speaker 5: if you it's not the Patriots, it's that's not the
- 57:41Speaker 5: right team for bo Nicks. But if you're a team
- 57:43Speaker 5: that has a lot of the you know, the Niners
- 57:46Speaker 5: ish model, that has a lot of the the pieces,
- 57:48Speaker 5: and all he's got to do is distribute the ball
- 57:50Speaker 5: to them, then he's you could do worse.
- 57:51Speaker 6: In do you think the signs will be pointing towards
- 57:54Speaker 6: what they'll do with a trade down just based on
- 57:56Speaker 6: how they kind of address the quarterback position, because I
- 57:59Speaker 6: just it's it's hard to believe if they just have
- 58:00Speaker 6: like a seat warmer, they go and get like a
- 58:02Speaker 6: Jacoby Brissett kind of a guy that that they wouldn't
- 58:05Speaker 6: take a quarterback at three. You know, like if they
- 58:07Speaker 6: maybe make a little bit more an investment of the
- 58:08Speaker 6: quarterback position, that might point more towards trade down, But
- 58:11Speaker 6: it's hard to see them sign Jacoby Brissette and then
- 58:15Speaker 6: draft bon Nicks in the you know, in the second
- 58:17Speaker 6: if he were.
- 58:17Speaker 4: If he were too like if they signed a guy
- 58:20Speaker 4: for like three years, you know, if they signed Baker
- 58:22Speaker 4: Mayfield for three years and he'd be like.
- 58:24Speaker 6: Oh, they could probably trade down.
- 58:26Speaker 4: I'm kind of telling you that they're comfortable if he's
- 58:28Speaker 4: the guy for for a little.
- 58:30Speaker 6: While to trade down and get a Doomsday or you know,
- 58:32Speaker 6: somebody lower ten and you know, and then you're looking
- 58:35Speaker 6: at next year. We got an extra first round pick,
- 58:37Speaker 6: and it'd be tough to swallow, but I think I
- 58:39Speaker 6: could do it if if, if it was executed correctly,
- 58:41Speaker 6: and the.
- 58:42Speaker 5: Trade down, I'm starting to come around to it a
- 58:44Speaker 5: little bit. If you don't love the quarterbacks, don't you
- 58:47Speaker 5: hate yourself for it? It just six with the Giants
- 58:50Speaker 5: is interesting? Is if the Falcons right or at eight? Like,
- 58:55Speaker 5: that's also interesting. You know, if you trade down in
- 58:58Speaker 5: the packages that you see or usually like a Day
- 59:02Speaker 5: two pick this year and maybe a future first round pick,
- 59:06Speaker 5: and depending on how the rest of the league views
- 59:08Speaker 5: the quarterbacks, that could be even more than that. The
- 59:10Speaker 5: Patriots are are are they gonna drop? You know, Drake
- 59:14Speaker 5: may into this situation and be ready to go probably not.
- 59:17Speaker 5: You know, you look at these, you know, the guys
- 59:19Speaker 5: that they could get in the five to ten range.
- 59:21Speaker 5: You could walk away with Joe Alt, you could walk
- 59:23Speaker 5: away with Roma Dunze, You could walk away with a
- 59:25Speaker 5: real stud player at that spot still and have it
- 59:28Speaker 5: get still draft a blue chip guy and then have
- 59:30Speaker 5: all this amo to go out and do more afterwards.
- 59:33Speaker 5: It's not if you execute it properly going forward, then
- 59:37Speaker 5: it getting all those picks is very enticing, like It's
- 59:40Speaker 5: not a terrible way to go about it.
- 59:42Speaker 4: I feel similarly, and I think it puts it puts
- 59:44Speaker 4: a lot of stress on your scouts because I think
- 59:47Speaker 4: the question that would need to be asked is is
- 59:49Speaker 4: there a guy that will be in the twenty five
- 59:52Speaker 4: draft comparable to Daniels or May whichever one is the
- 59:57Speaker 4: third guy that's that's left standing. And if you think
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: the answer to that is yes, but I think you
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: need to strongly consider that because you can add more
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: pieces and get a comparable quarterback later, you know, depending
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: on how it goes. Now, there's no guarantees because you
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: might not get the third pick, you might not be
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: in position to get the one guy you like. But
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: if you have that that out of the ammunition, you
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: should be able to get where you want to go.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: That's the other thing is you have the am and
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: then you also have the amo to trade for veteran
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: players if you want to go that route too. You know,
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: if Brandon Nayik becomes available on the trade market, now
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: you have picks to go, and you can't trade. In
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: the Patriots current situation, it's hard to trade. You know,
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: Lagarious sneed Like, you're gonna trade thirty four for Lagarius Snead.
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: You're gonna trade a high pick for a receiver right now?
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: Probably not? But next year if you have two first
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: round picks and now you're you know, you have more
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: ammunition than me.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: But here's what okay, So let's just say that the
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: scouts say that there is a comparable guy to may
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: Or Daniels. Next year, you trade down. This year, you
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: have that ammunition to get there. So now you're using
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: that ammunition to get a guy that's comparable to a
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: guy you could have got this year.
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: Right, But then you have all the players that you
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: drafted this year.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Plus a lot of different guys that you wouldn't have gotten.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: You would it would be just May or just Daniels
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: or but the next someone may adjacent plus but Marvin Harris.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: The next year, you're going to give up whoever else
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: to get somewhere you.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Need to go. So you won't be able to pick
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: guys next year. You know, I don't know.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: That's but that's why you have the added picks to
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: get where you want to go.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: That's right, you will, but but you'll lose them for
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: next year you'll have to use.
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: But you'll have a better player in addition.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: To the quarter Now you said comparable, you know, so I.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: Just could get good.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: No, but you'll get the better players this year.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: Right, right, But the players that you wouldn't be able
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: to get, right.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: But next year you won't be able to get those players.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: But you'll be able to get a quarterback similar to
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: the one that you would have taken this year. And
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: that's all you would have gotten. So whatever it is
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: propos and I am not I'm not anti trading down,
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: which is never happens to me. You have a chance
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: to get like the number six pick in the draft
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: where you can get Roma Dunza. You can't get that
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: if you just take the quarterback at three, that's correct. Yeah, right,
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: And that's that's the thing that and you can get
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: the quarterback like the guy that you're gonna take at
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: three next year. In this scenario, it's again it's a
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: roll of the dice. It's a lot of pressure on
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: your scouting to put you better be right that there's
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: a guy that you know, it's not just Shedua Sanders.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: It's someone next year who's gonna be really good that
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: people maybe don't. I don't know about it.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: I I just feel like if you're looking ahead to
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: twenty five and you're you're going to be okay with
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: getting a guy who's comparable to this year, get the
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: guy this year and get him now, like, let's not
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: wait another year. And I understand you get all those
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: extra picks.
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: That's that's the flip side. Yeah, but that's the debate.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: Get the quarterback and and you know next year we
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: don't have to give up picks to get a quarterback.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Right, So here you feel you, Freddy.
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: So here's the mock draft that I did on my
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: own time because I'm, you know, a nerd, and uh.
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: This is like a supernal Yeah.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: Yea I'm gonna review it right now. So what I
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: did was is I traded three to Atlanta for eight,
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: forty three and a twenty twenty five first round pick.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: So with the picks, now I have eight, thirty four,
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: forty three, and sixty eight all this year, it's appealing.
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: And so at eight I took Joe Alt. At thirty four,
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: I took Xavier.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Worthy, right, because they're all going to be there.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: Well, that might be all right.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: At forty three, I took to Davian Sanders, the tight
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: end from Texas, because I love Texas guys, both Texas guys, right.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: And then in this mock draft, I at sixty eight,
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: I traded it for Justin Fields. Now, you could take
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: a player at sixty eight too, But the point is
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: is that if you want to just take Justin Fields
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: out of this, because this is just this one example,
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: you are now going to put a quarterback in twenty
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: twenty five into an offense and said, has Joel protecting
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: his Brian side, Xavier Worthy, Jatavian Sanders, and let's say
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: another offensive playmaker at sixty eight, whereas you're gonna take
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: Drake May and you're gonna have him throw to Kendrick
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: Bourne Pop Douglas like that. That's that's the that's the
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: argument for the trade does year.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: This year he's gonna have Pop Douglas. But next year, sure.
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: But this is a historic, historically good tackle and receiver class.
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: So I took all tackles and receivers in the in
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: the top one hour.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: It's not in a vacuum. But you're talking about individual
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: players that won't be available next year. Now, I'm kind
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: of with you, Fred, They kind of tell me this
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: every year about the receivers. Yeah, Like, I feel like
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: next year's cropper receivers might not be as good as
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: this I don't think that's fair. It might not be
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: as good as this one, but to be comparable.
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: Yeah, the last time that we talked about a receiver
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: class like this was the Jamar Chase here, So it
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: was way back then.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, yeah, just like, but it doesn't it
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: seem like in college more and more of these classes
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: have good receivers. Like you're getting really good receivers in
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: the second round consistently now.
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: But I would say that the Jamar Chase here also
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: was at the top, right, Yeah, Jamar Chase, DeVante Smith,
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: those guys at the top these but this class goes
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: through the top one hundred and twenty five picks, Like
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: you're gonna get guys on day two in this class
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: that last year would have gone on day one. You
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: know a guy like you know I mentioned I took
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: Xavier Worthy at thirty four. Xavier Worthy is the number
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: one receiver in the class last year. You know, So
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: that that's the difference in this class. The depth is
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: the difference. You know, there's guys on day two. You
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: know I'm going through them all now. You know, a
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: guy like Xavier Legette is a stud that's gonna be
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: potentially on the board for the Patriots in the third round. Like,
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: there's just there's a ton of them. There's probably gonna
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: be like twenty receivers taken in the top one hundred.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: Bronson in Salt Lake City. So say we take QB
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: in the first round. Seems like you guys set on
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: taking a tackle in the second round. I don't watch
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: a ton of college football, but I just I'm watching
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: the combine and a bunch of YouTube videos. If lad
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: Lagette or Walker are there, do you take any of them?
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: I know you aren't high on Keon and don't think
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Ad will be there at thirty four. I have no
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: idea what he's talking about. So do you take any
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: of those guys and go after a tackle in the
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: third and maybe Smith or another tackle in free agency?
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: My hopes are we also resigned Dugger and Mike and
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: then hopefully go get someone like Ridley and Bayered And
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: do you think we have enough money to go get
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: all those guys.
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: I'll just jump in and say it's I just think
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: that what Evan just laid out, the depth of the
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: wide receivers is better, and once you get past like thirty,
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: the tackles fall off a cliff and you're talking about
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: real developmental guys. So that's why it feels like tackle
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: in the crosshairs for that early second round pick.
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: Yeah, the tackle class. There are some guys that you
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: can get maybe at sixty eight or even in the
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: top of the fourth round that I would that are
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: are high floor. I hates using that term, but like
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: high floor players like a Roger Rosenngarten from Washington for example,
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: who's their right tackle? Like I think he's going to
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: be a solid NFL pro, But is he going to
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: be like a stud tackle at the next level probably
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: not whereas at thirty four. That's really where it stops.
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: Where this is a day one, plug and play, you know,
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: don't touch him for ten years type of guy. Once
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: you get past that, you're more talking about jags. You
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: guys that you get over here.
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: You talk tackle. You're talking both sides.
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: Right for the most part, like there are there are.
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: It does get a little bit more right tackle heavy
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: once you start to get into the thirties. Obviously, like
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: the left tackles are gonna go higher, but you know
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: they're they're they're both sides. I would say, you know,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: obviously Alton Vashan who are are left tackles, and you
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: know then there's a guy like jayc. Latham from Alabama
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: who's a prot typical right tackle. So it does go
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: on both sides.
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: Let's see, Alex says, does anyone else feel like Joe
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Milton gives off a Josh Allen type feel? I know
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Allen was a higher rank prospect than Milton is, but
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: they both have elite arm strength. Milton is bigger than
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: some of the tight ends in the league, running ability
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: with the similar frame, but just more athletic than Josh Allen,
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: why not take a second quarterback in this draft? And
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: if they do, would you want Milton or someone else?
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: I think it would be good for camp to have
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: some competition as well.
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: That's what I just said. I think Milton will be
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: fun for somebody in a camp. Sure, I mean I
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: take them here, depending on how it all plays out.
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: I don't know if they're down with the double dip.
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: But now, I always like those guys that you know,
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: have like a couple interesting traits that would be for
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: some fun in the summer, even if they're not going
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: to play during the season.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: I think Milton is interesting. He didn't play very well
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: no last year, no or really and that was college. Yeah,
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: but that was his big chance. Like you know, you know,
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: Hooker got hurt, you know, the year before he was done,
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: So was Joe Milton's show. That was a pretty good team.
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: You know, Tennessee had sort of been coming on a
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: little bit, and I don't know, I I kind of
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: understand what Mike is going and I sort of put
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: myself in the Bob's discout furniture studio and I was like,
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: I wouldn't mind watching this guy. Fourth quarter of a preseason.
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: Complete incomplete bomb.
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: I'm not a he can throw the ball a double
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: dip in the same draft though, like the whole RG
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: three Kirk Cousins thing, I think is so overblown. Ye
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: if the guy you pick, you know stuff as a
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: catastrophic knee injury. Yeah, it worked out great that you
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: had a guy that you picked and he turned out
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: to be pretty good in the fourth round. But otherwise
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: I think it kind of represents a wasted pick.
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: I would say Joe Milton is more Anthony Richardson than
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: he is Josh Allen. I think Josh Allen is it
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: a different stratosphere as a prospect coming out than Joe
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: Milton was. But I look at Joe Milton as like
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: a discount brand, store brand version of Anthony Richardson, say
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: measurable's arm strength, all that kind of It's.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: Funny you brought up Richardson to watch in NFL Network
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: and they have like these free agent showcase games and
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: they're doing one for Jacksonville right now with Calvin Ridley
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: but Richardson playing, and it's just like, I just don't
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: feel like you got a real sense of right.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: If I was the coat, if I was the Cults,
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: I would take Joe Milton in the third on day three,
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: because you have two guys. It's literally there. To me,
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: they're carbon copies of each other. Just Joe Milton's not
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: quite as polished as Anthony Richardson is, and Richardson gets
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: hurt again and you have the same exact quarterback backing
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: them up.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: Anakin from tatooin, right.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: I hate I hate.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: That his email is Darth skeptical, so I don't know
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: he doesn't want to give his real name. But anyway,
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: isn't it a bit disingenuous to say JJ sailed throws
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: in the combine when the wide receiver he was paired
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: with ran the wrong routes. In those instances, the wide
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: receiver never made it to the cones. You would see
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: what I mean, yea, for those out routes. Few quarterbacks
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: overthrew on the deep passes, but that's expected. I would
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: give JJ a chance.
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: I'm not saying I wouldn't, but I just I've never
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: seen a performance so grossly change based on what your
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: I see and what people are telling you what actually happened,
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: then this one.
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: I would say that I would give JJ McCarthy the
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: benefit of the doubt if he doesn't do the exact
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: same thing on film, like literally.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: Like if a guy doesn't get to the cone like
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: sailing it is, wouldn't have mattered, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: Like I saw the passes and they were like, you know,
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: six seven feet over his head.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: And I'm not gonna pretend to know that that who
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: you know, who was at fault or if they're you know,
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: But I just he looks to me like a guy
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: who puts an awful lot into every throw. And when
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: guys do that, you tend to overthrow the ball a
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: lot because you compensate, You overcompensate.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't mean I'm right. I'm no way expert.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: I'm just that's what I see if.
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: You see it all on his film of him throwing
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: the ball ten yards over guy's head, mostly to his left.
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: But like I if he tries to throw it out
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: like a ten yard out, it's good luck, like it
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: of where it's going, you know.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: That's the way.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: So when he throws guy overthrows guys at the combine,
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: it's like, am I gonna give him the benefit of
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: the doubt when he just I could watch him do
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: it fifty times the same exact way at Michigan.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: Tom in Somerville. Why are you also quick to dismiss
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Chris Simms rankings.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: I'm not. I just I want to stay for the record.
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: I don't dismiss quarterbacks. Know a lot more about this
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: stuff than I.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: Did you just look at the list or did you
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: listen to his explanations? I do not watch films, so
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: if excuse me, if I defer to people who do
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: watch film like Evan and Sims. Sims track record has
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: more hits than missus. No one is perfect in player evaluations.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: I challenge Evan to take a few minutes to look
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: at sims analysis of the quarterback in detail where he disagrees,
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: rather than just completely dismissing his opinions.
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: I don't completely dismiss his opinions. I just think he's wrong,
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: and I have an opinion like he has an opinion.
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: I mean, he can have an opinion. I just think
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: that when you, you know, looked at the twenty twenty
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: one quarterback class and you put Zach Wilson as the
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: best quarterback in that class over Trevor Lawrence, I gonna
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: be a little bit skeptical that every you know now
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: I'm supposed to believe you.
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: And it's just consistent with him. It's just that he
- 1:13:00Speaker 6: always has something like what Yeah, always that guy. He
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: always is, no matter what, even when it goes back.
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: To the guy that for years told you that Brady
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: wasn't that good, right, And that's so.
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: And in twenty one he also had uh Kellen Mond
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: rated higher than justin fields coming out of college.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: So it's just I get it.
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: Everybody has their own opinions, everybody is entitled to them.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: But I'm just you gotta have some sort of a
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: track record for me to start to trust you. I
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: think you had one good class.
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: And I don't dismiss him. I don't dismiss any I
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: try to use it all like I don't. I'm not
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: an I'm not a scout. I'm not a personnel guy.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: It's not what I do for a living. I try
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: to watch a little of these guys, and then I
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: try to listen to how they have talked about by
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: guys that did play and guys that do make these decisions.
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: Daniel Jeremiah is a guy who has been in personnel departments.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: I do listen to him a little bit.
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: Me too, I value his opinion that I think.
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: I think all of these things are part like of
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: you know, like Bill used to say, the mosaic when
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: you put it all together. I don't just say Chris
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: Sims is the guy, like, No, I don't. I don't
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: think he can do that. I just think it's interesting
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: to see how one guy thinks so differently than another guy.
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: Jeremiah is the best.
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: Yeah, well, real quick along those lines a little uh.
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: You know, we're doing this Patriots Draft Countdown podcast. Now
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: we've kind of taken those positional previews and put them
- 1:14:17Speaker 6: into that. And yeah, we lined up Daniel Jeremiah today
- 1:14:20Speaker 6: to talk to us, so that'll be those will be
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: coming starting next week on Wednesday, so we'll be pumping
- 1:14:25Speaker 6: those out. So yeah, looking forward to talk to him.
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: Brandon and Pennsylvania wants our opinion on the possibility of
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: let's say we draft a quarterback in the first round
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: and we keep Mac Jones and Mac Jones outperforms this
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: quarterback then also plays better. What happens then that's bad?
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: Do we play back or play the first.
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: Round quarter I think you got to get rid of
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: Mac if you're going to do the jurch I mean,
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: there's a couple of reasons you should get rid of them.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: But I will play along because I like to play.
- 1:14:50Speaker 6: I like to play.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: I think you'd play Mac. But I don't think there's
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: any chance that Mac Jones is a Patriot come training camp.
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't do that.
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: But if he plays better than the guy, I think
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: then you you wait till the guy's ready, Yeah, because
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: that means the other guy's playing really bad. Sorry, I've
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: seen Mac Jones.
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: Fit yeah, and and like to your point, Paul, like,
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: what's worse is it? I mean, just generally speaking, that
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: you go sign Jacoby Brissett and you pay him new
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: money to be that guy, or that Mac actually turns
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: it around and now you're already paying him on a
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: rookie deal. This isn't new money at.
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: I think he's talking about with a rookie No, I know.
- 1:15:24Speaker 6: But then like if he mean or like, you're not
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: going out and now we're drafting a guy and and
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: spending guy. You know, you're not spending on the free
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: agent anymore. You're using Mac as the bridge, but you
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: already have on the roster.
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: So in all fairness, just to Mac, you got to
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: get rid of them, Like, if you're Max's agent, like
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: you should.
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: Be out there saying that they would have seven Super
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: Bowls by now.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: I'd be very surprised if if they're not working with
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: that right now, Yeah, and trying to figure out what
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: makes sense now they might wait till free agency to
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: see if they actually can land us. Yeah, because you
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: could say Jacoby Brissett, Well Gardner Minshew somewhere else doesn't
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: mean you're gonna get them.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: I mean I.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: Feel for the kid, and I think the Patriots should
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: just do him a solid and whatever you want to
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: give me, I'll take. Don't hold out for fourth if
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: someone's giving you a seventh or whatever, just just move them.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: What fourth I'm saying, like first round, don't hold out
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: for that is what I'm saying.
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: Two ones. I wouldn't trade Jimmy Garoppolo for four number one.
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: The conversation though about should the quarterbacks start right away
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: if they draft a guy. I didn't realize like how
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: people have opinions on that.
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: It's a very polarizing opinions on it. He wrote a
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: book about it.
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: Yeah, very polarizing topic, which I surprises me. I just
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: for me, I just if he's ready, he's ready, Like,
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: I'm not going into it with the plan of we
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: are definitely sitting this guy for the whole year.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: Bill, I don't know how many did you have any
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: as an assistant?
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: I don't know what was his boat named four rings?
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: Andy Reid.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Astant coach, but he just named his boat.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: Who gets worked up about what someone.
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: Named their boat?
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: Like fulger?
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: Have you met.
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: Tayshawn and Connecticut says rumor that the Saints are going
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: to release Michael Thomas, would you pick him up?
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: No?
- 1:17:22Speaker 6: You know, like slamp boy, banged.
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: Up, banged up.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: I'm all side too, Okay, we gotta we gotta be
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: in a higher tax bracket than than Michael Thomas. Like
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: we've had enough Michael Thomas's roll through here.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: Christian, Michael Thomas, Michael Jenkins wasn't Christian?
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: In North Carolina says in defense for all the people
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: in North Carolina speaking about Drake May, I don't think
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: it has anything to do with us being fans, as
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: I specifically don't even root for uh North Carolina, but
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: I watch any and all college games and watch prospects
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: that are important to the Patriots. I'm just not in
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: love with his game. Everyone fantasizes about his being Josh Allen.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: There was only one Josh Allen. I believe the film
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: that Daniels Caleb in Pennix has shows they can be
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: starred as in the NFL and not just projections.
- 1:18:13Speaker 6: I hear that a little bit because I mean, Evan,
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: you know, laid out my draft process, which is pretty funny.
- 1:18:20Speaker 6: But you know, as I've watched, like you know, we've
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: kind of settled, like I feel like I've settled on
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: Drake May right now, and then I'm now, like, you know,
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: watching some more Drake May, and it's like you realize,
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: like he's not perfect, like he has some holes, like
- 1:18:30Speaker 6: they could he could be a miss like and you
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: just you get I think once you attach yourself to
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: a prospect, you just start to get those blinders and
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: you don't want to hear about the bad stuff, and
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: you don't want to hear about what might not work out,
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: and you know it's he certainly has those things, certainly.
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: But I do not think that Drake May is a
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: projection anymore so than anybody else. Drake May did these
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: things in college. Now, maybe you at the email or
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: didn't like him, and that's fine to each to each
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: his own. But JJ McCarthy had games, we didn't throw
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: the ball ten times. That's a projection. I've never seen
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: him put the offense on his back and have to
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: do everything for the tap. I've seen Drake May do that. Now,
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: maybe to you a point, he doesn't do it well enough.
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: But don't tell me that Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: did stuff that Drake made it. They've they've had to
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: be the centerpieces of their teams in some cases for
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: multiple years. JJ McCarthy didn't have to do that. That's
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: a projection.
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I just I always find it fascinating. And Caleb,
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: I feel like has rightfully so avoided this a little bit.
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: But if j if Drake May's twenty twenty two tape
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: was his most recent tape, then this would not even
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: be a conversation because.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: In twenty two that worries me. He was outstanding because
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: he had better talent around him and told a little
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: bit like he had Josh Downs, which was big, But
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: that worries me. I remember in twenty two as watching
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: Josh Downs, and obviously Texan Barth was like Josh Down's.
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: Good, Who the heck is this quarterback?
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: And that's when he tells me his autobiography of Drake
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: May and and.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: Up the shot.
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: I gets to go along with you from all angles.
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: But but my point is is that in twenty two,
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: you know, he was outstanding, just like Caleb been twenty
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: two to one Heisman, and then they both kind of
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: took a little bit of a step back this past
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: year and Jaden was out outstanding and won the Heisman.
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: So it just it depends on almost like what order
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: you watch things in. So I, you know, I've been
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: like enthralled a little bit with Drake May full disclosure
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: since the twenty twenty two season and being you know,
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: watching him, you know, tear up Clemson in twenty twenty
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: two and be like, who the heck is this guy?
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: My concern with Drake May is consistency and mechanics and
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: that kind of stuff. And he might be a bust,
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: but it's not about I've never seen him do it.
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: It's not a projection for me.
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: Yeah, And that's why I keep saying he's worth missing on.
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: He's worth missing at three on. There's just if you
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: miss on him at three, you get you that happens.
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: None of these guys are a fool proof. That's why
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: I get annoyed when well, just to you know, take
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: Joe Walt. That's the safe pick. Like if there was
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: such a thing, everybody would take the safe guys and
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: make sure they've got a good player with their first pick.
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: None of these guys is a sure thing.
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: Speaking of that, Mike says, Mike, continue to be the
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: uncle we all deserve. But I want to bring attention
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: to the fact that NFL teams always extend or resign
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: average or better offensive tackles. Every tackle that ever hits
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: free agency has a consensus injury that makes them available
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: or is at the age thirty or over. The Patriots'
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: best move is to trade down draft to tackle and
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: pray that they hit a tackle that can block. I
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: know not every draft pick works, but the Patriots don't
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: have a functional offensive tackle on the roster after that.
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: I don't care what the Pats pick, but they have
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: to take a chance on the one position. And he
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: says it's offensive tackle that no team will ever make available.
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: That's fair.
- 1:21:48Speaker 6: I like what he wrote, and I think the wide
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: receivers are getting like that too, right, Like the teams
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: are now, like these guys aren't hitting free agencies. We've
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: talked about numerous times, and you're always trying to draw
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: the diagram up of how to get one of these guys,
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: and it's it's the same thing with tackles. It's a
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: it's a good email.
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: No, That's why the trade down scenario I brought up
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: earlier is that's the scenario is Joe alt or Romadounza
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: or neighbors and tackles receiver, tackle receiver, tackle receiver in
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: the top one hundred and then you just got these
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: guys to then build for the next five years.
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: Or it's like Trent Brown who has issues, you know,
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: has has like some real questions with him, even though
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: he has talent.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: Size Jeff in Canada, he says it's a good day
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: to email with no phones. There was a report he's
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: got that in quote and we use that word lightly
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: last week that James Daniels was at the top of
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: Bill Belichick's draft board before he left the building. Do
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: you believe it? And if so, who do you think
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: put the that word out there?
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: Well, there's a very uh, there's a picture of Bill's
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: standing with Jaden Daniels at LSU's Pro day last year
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: and they spend a significant amount of time talking for
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: whatever it's worth. So I I honestly think that that's
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: where this is all stemming from, is that he took
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: a liking to him at the pro day last year.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: And so then you connect the dots.
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: Like, can I ask the stupid question, does Bill Belichick
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: have a draft board? Like like is this something that
- 1:23:13Speaker 6: like he would be thinking about ahead of time? Like
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: part of me feels like like he he already is.
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: I don't know about a board. But if Evans, like
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: at that pro day when he spent all that time
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: with Jayden Daniels, he has in his mind, this is
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: the best quarterback in the draft, right yeah? Yeah that
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: now he might he might be saying to himself, Yeah,
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: be a good third round pick, because that's what quarterbacks
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: mean to me.
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: That's that at the time, he was a third round.
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: Right, That's that's possible. Like this, Evan just stole it,
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: but that's how he thought. Like everybody else is going
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: to be all over the guys that you know right
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: that are going to go number one in the draft.
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: I'm going to beat the system and get this guy
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: in the third round because they don't matter. It's all
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: about me. But that's how Bill thought.
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: But then he elevates the first overall and.
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: Too much. It shines off no longer interested. I'm just
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: gonna be the second pick of the draft out.
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: Does he have a relationship with Brian Kelly because that
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: was something that I also like, They're like finally, I
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: mean he Brian Kelly's from around here, So so maybe
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: I wonder if Brian Kelly was like a stretch that
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: this this Jayden Daniels kid that we have here is
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: gonna be ridiculous.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Like he would say it with a Southern accent.
- 1:24:22Speaker 6: Maybe maybe he's gonna be ridiculus.
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: Maybe you should, maybe you should, you know, chat with
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: him a little bit and see, you know what happens.
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: Maybe Uh, Jeff has a second question. Do you think
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: that given the right situation, Mac Jones could have a
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: decent three to five years in the league ahead of him?
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: If yes, would that bother you that the Patriots couldn't
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: get that out of him.
- 1:24:43Speaker 6: I'm gonna say, no, bother you. If he had, I say,
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: it would bother me, and it would. It wouldn't just
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: bother me. That that that that they didn't see it,
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: but that I didn't see it because I don't.
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: I don't see it.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: Keyword there is decent.
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: Well, just I assume that he means like he could
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: be a someone started for the next three to five years,
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: A decent Would that bother you? No, it would bother me.
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: Really bother me.
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: I mean that you didn't get you didn't get the
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: most out of him. I don't think he's a starting
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: level quarterback. I don't.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think it's any doubt that we did
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: him dirty and that he's that would bother me. He's
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: not as good as we hope. But he's not as
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: bad as he looked.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: But like when you're saying decent, you're saying like middle tier. Yeah,
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: like the middle twelve Derek Carr. Yeah, that would bother me. Yeah,
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: he's as good as Derek Carr. Me too, But it
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: would bother me because great cop though, yeah great?
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: But I remember when we like Okay, so let's go
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: back to that draft. If you said, at number ten,
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: what was he, fifteen fifteen, you're gonna get Derek Carr,
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: would you have been okay? Oh?
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I would have been would have been. But I
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: like Derek Carr. I think a lot of people don't,
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: so we'll go to my shows. Now he sucks, Well,
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: it's just he blows mine.
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: Derek Carr was like a viable starting quarterback for like
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: a decade in the NFL.
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: But like he I think he's he's never been a
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: star and absolutely right, but he's better than decent.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: But yes, but no one ever said Derek Carr can
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: take it to a super Bowl. That's who I'm looking for.
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: Seventeen people were saying I wouldn't necessarily at fifteen, Like, yes,
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: with the third overall pick, you're looking for the guy
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: that can drive the engine to the super Bowl. But
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: at fifteen you're already in that next tier of prospect
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: most likely. I mean most teams have like eighteen first
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: round grade, so you're already into a you know, a
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: guy that's a little bit lower. But I'd be more
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: frustrated about it because of the Patriots wrongdoing. It's like
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: anything against it bothered me. You know, We've been saying
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: it all in this show. For from what I have.
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: Said about that, I don't need him to be decent
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: for me to prove to me that the Patriots had wrongdoing.
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: But the thing, that's what I'm saying. I think the
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: Patriots contributed to his demise, yes, but I don't think
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: he was anything. If it turns out that the Patriots
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: contributed to his demise and he was something that would
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: bother me, yes, And that's what the guy is saying.
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: He's going to be a serviceable NFL quarterback for three
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: to five years.
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: Like it bothers me that, you know, we didn't get
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: a chance to see.
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that would bug them.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: They screwed him. Yeah, now he could be he could
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: amount to nothing and so what. But still regardless, they
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: mishandled it. They mishandled.
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: But like you said, done dirty. And that's a common
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: refrain about mac and I totally agree with the Matt
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: Patricia of it all. But like there's certainly a line
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: like it's never easy for a quarterback, and like even
- 1:27:22Speaker 6: in the worst of circumstances, you see some kind of
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: nugget of perseverance, of ability to lead, of ability to
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: rally the guys around him, And that's what was devoid
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: Bill O'Brien.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: I personally think it will end up being one of
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: the best things that happened to him, because no one
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: will ever say that, poor guy, he just got overdrafted.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: He sucked.
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: I would say that poor guy, they saddled him with
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: the defensive coordinator.
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: But it's not even just the Matt Patricia of it all.
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: They didn't surround him with any talent.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: Well, yeah, it was terrible, but I went on a
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: rant a few weeks ago about he's got to go
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: regardless because not of how he played, but all the
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: leadership stuff and all that other stuff, you know, led
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: to his demise.
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: He was like Elliot Wolf would have.
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: I mean, do you but do you think that do
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: you think that Derek Carr would have looked as bad
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: in this offense last year as Mac Jones?
- 1:28:09Speaker 8: No?
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: No, But I think Derek Carr's a veteran quarterback that
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: has been around the block for a while. I think
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: that the Matt Patricia thing, we've beaten that enough. But like,
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: how many times did all of us sit here and say,
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: you gotta go get Mac a number one wide receiver.
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: You gotta go get Mac, you know, a stud on
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: the outside that he can throw Pat like, they never
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: surrounded him with any talent, Not to mention the offensive
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: line just decayed from the inside out as well. So
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: like you're talking about a guy that just really from
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: all angles, they just gave no chance like that. We
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: used to laugh at teams that used to do with
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: the way that Patriots did it.
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: I mean, I know this is an absurd hypothesis, but
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: let's say that Tom Brady was drafted at fifteen and
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: he came onto a similar team that Mac Jones, and
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: they treated him the same way. No talent. It three
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: coordinators and three years it's been better. There's no doubt
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: he because he's Tom Brady, but he would have been
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: so pissed that his emotions might have gotten he might
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: have like demanded a trade after two years. Yeah, like
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: you know, it was a bad situation.
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: It's a hard time.
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a hard confident, you know with Brady and
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: I just yeah, but you know, and even when you
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: do have those number ones, there are gonna be games
- 1:29:25Speaker 6: where that guy's hurt and you gotta find a way.
- 1:29:28Speaker 6: And it's just like, and I get what Evan's saying,
- 1:29:30Speaker 6: and you know, he's right. They should have given him
- 1:29:32Speaker 6: more surrounded him, but there were still some NFL players
- 1:29:34Speaker 6: around him, and there just was never.
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: Even that who was the NFL player.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: But like Hunter.
- 1:29:38Speaker 6: Henry's fine, Like I mean, they're fine, but he just
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: did nothing.
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: He did nothing just twenty one.
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: He didn't do nothing like he did twenty one. He
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: he had some people around him, right, The offensive line
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: wasn't a complete mess. He had he had Hunter Henry,
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: he had Jakobe and they made the playoffs like it
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: just they took the rule book of like how to
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: the script of how to develop a young quarterback and
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: they did all the total opposites. They they changed the
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: coordinators on him. They never got And I'm not talking
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: about like in the defensive mac. I'm saying when they
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: if they draft Drake May and they just do the
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: same thing again, they're gonna ruin another one. And that's
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: why Bill's not here anymore, is because they were worried
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: that he was just gonna do the same thing.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: I mean, I listen to players, you know, like we
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: think that players are just in their own little bubble
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: and they don't care about anything else but themselves. But
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: Matt Judon yesterday said, you know, the guys, if he's
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: here next year, he's gonna have four coordinators in four years,
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: Like he's a defensive guy. Who's even thinking about that stuff?
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:30:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I just I think Mac. I think Mac can
- 1:30:39Speaker 6: be a quality just a backup that you that you
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: kind of feel like. I think he could maybe win
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: a game for us, But I just don't think he's
- 1:30:45Speaker 6: the guy that you're gonna I agree.
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: I agree to, And I'm like the frustration with me
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: is more about like the personnel side of things. Like
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: they had they had him on a rookie contract, they
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: had assets to go out and say, you know, we're
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: gonna get these guys around him, and they just never did, and.
- 1:30:59Speaker 6: They explicit he said it too.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: And how this started is, you know, was the email.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: And I'm already bothered. I don't need him to be
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: a decent quarterback for what they did to bother me.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: It already bothers me.
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: It won't bother It won't bother me if he doesn't
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: do anything.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: I hope the best for him. I hope he becomes
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: a decent quarterback, you know, as a human being.
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, do you hope Zach Wilson does?
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: They do, don't.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: I don't really care as much about him because he
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: wasn't on this team but.
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: At least at least wil I don't know human being cares,
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: but I don't wish you like.
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: I hope he doesn't do well.
- 1:31:38Speaker 4: You know, I'm not saying. I'm not saying I hope
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: he does poor for my own benefits, and I don't care.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: There's a difference between wanting him. You said it would
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: it would bother me as a Pats fan if he
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: goes somewhere else and shows that it was our fault,
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: but there wasn't. Just I think both of these things
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: can be true. Everything Evan said is true. I think
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: he guy can't like if Tom Brady, which by the way,
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: inherited a very similar situation in all one, I don't
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: think this would have looked like that if Tom Brady
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: was the guy in the draft that you but in
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: your hypothetical difference though.
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: The difference though, and it's why I included it, that
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: are if he had been drafted in the first round
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: of fifteen, there'd been more expectations.
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: At him, and I would say, two friends to your point,
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: if Mac did, I would I would be upset that
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: the Patriots missed on him, couldn't There would be a
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: part of me that felt happy for Mac because they
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: know he's a good kid. You know, I like all
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: this back. Yeah, he's a pretty I think he's a pretty.
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: Good the way he acts. Think you're pretty sure that
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: he's a good kid.
- 1:32:34Speaker 6: I mean he's is he immature?
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: Is he? Yeah? A little bit?
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: He's baby. Yeah years, you're a good kid.
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: Twenty four years.
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: I just a bad kid.
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: I just wish that there was a world just from
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: like the Patriots side of things, right where they take
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: twenty one, McDaniel stays, they go into twenty twenty two
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: and whether it's Taekwon Thornton's actually good, or instead of
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: trading for Devonte Parker they actually traded for a real receiver,
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: or whatever the case may be, at least would have
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: given Mac a fair shake of Okay, maybe he does
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: just suck and it doesn't work out, or maybe it
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: does work out and we're not in this position.
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: I'll take it another place. If they decide, you know what,
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: two years we've seen enough of Taekwon Thornton and he
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: goes somewhere else and becomes like a seventy catch guy.
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: That'll bother me too. I don't think just like Mac Jones,
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: I don't think that will happen for Taekwon Thornton. I
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: think saying that was our fault, not his. He had
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: the ability, we didn't get it out of him. That
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: would bother me.
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: Poor kid, somebody's son Paul self destructed.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: Going all on your own here all along?
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: Are you wondering what to do without game day weekends
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: a little bit? Well, you can spruce up your home

- 1:33:55Speaker 3: or cozy coffee tables, be sure to shop Bob's discount
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: Furniture the official furnitu a store of the New England Patriots.
- 1:34:01Speaker 6: I could use a cozy coffee table cozy coffee table
- 1:34:05Speaker 6: out of coffee tables.
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: Because I'm a big fan of coffee tables.
- 1:34:08Speaker 4: I don't mind coffee tables, but yeah, I'm kind of
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: with friend on this. How does one become cozy?
- 1:34:12Speaker 6: Edges could have cushion. You could you also use it
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: as a footy school.
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: Okay, that's cozy, so when the kids run around they
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: don't bang their head and die.
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: What this may happen to me?
- 1:34:19Speaker 6: It's a coffee table book about coffee tables be Kramer's
- 1:34:22Speaker 6: second I got I got you, I got your reference
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: the sequel.
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: So the pilot was on the other day Freddy Oh,
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: Seinfel pilot doesn't like the stand up.
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: Well that first year of seinfeldt wasn't that great. No,
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: it's the stand up take it from somebody who knows.
- 1:34:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I will, I like Curb better. Is that like
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: some people think that's a hot take. Some people don't.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: Well, Curb could do things that Seinfeld couldn't because.
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: I just think it's a funnier show.
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: I think the interesting about Curb was like you saw
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: the influence of Larry David on Sign. Oh yeah, you
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: never really realized.
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: Have you seen that episode when when they like everybody's
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: telling him that he's George yeah, oh yeah, and and
- 1:34:58Speaker 5: he's just like, I'm not George, I'm not George, just like, no,
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: you're definitely Georgia.
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: Uh David and Bethlehem. I loved Evan's comment about Sims.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: You can have an opinion. Anyone can have an opinion.
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: His emphasis made opinions sound like a skin condition which
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: needed medical intervention before Sims could kiss anyone.
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: Speaking of which, I went to the dermatologists today. I'm
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: good everybody, so don't worry about me. I was very
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: I didn't know you had It's a mole and I
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: just got I got some moles.
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: You gotta get check.
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: You get your moles checked out. Thanks for sharing, But
- 1:35:26Speaker 6: I was I said to the lady. She was like,
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: you know, I have used the dermatolois. She was like,
- 1:35:31Speaker 6: you know, did you ever get like sunburn, like blistered
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: or anything like that? And I said, well, I was
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: a middle school fact kid who never took his t
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: shirt off. And now I see that as like a
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: strength because I always was covered up when I was little.
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: But I probably got burned a couple of times, like
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: in Mexico and college. You know you're drinking, you pass
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: out on the beach, you get Was that what she
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: was talking about, like, I don't know. I was just
- 1:35:50Speaker 6: giving her the whole I'm getting. I'm still I'm lying there,
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: button naked on the thing.
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: We're trying to make conversation, but maybe do you mind
- 1:35:57Speaker 6: if I checked the button, give a little bit, you
- 1:36:02Speaker 6: get the full check. That's a slap, but don't ignore
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: your dermatologists. Folks make sure you sign up there for.
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: I'm very glad we got that story in.
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: It all comes back to Seinfeld. Remember he was dating
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: the dermatologist and he called her, you know, you're just
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: a pimple pusher. And then somebody in the restaurant says,
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: she saved my life. That skin cancer. He's like skin cancer, Mike,
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: and Charlotte says, if Mac was done dirty, then why
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: did they win eight games with Patricia and only four
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: with Billy? Oh was basically the same team.
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: I think he was never basically the same team.
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: I think he was never very good and it just
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: didn't work out. Like a lot of high drafted quarterbacks.
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: I mean, it wasn't basically the same team. But if
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: that's what we want to say, we can say.
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: That definitely weren't the same opponents, which to me is
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: the more that too.
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: Yeah, uh Alec and Berlin dark. Mike giving Hot takes
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: on the Patriots not keeping their players, But that was
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: the old You have to check all of that out
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: the window, Mike. It's a new era in Foxborough. And
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: to that point, Duggar, as you know, is the subject
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: of a transition tag. Yes we do. Oh, we do
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: know that I'm not sure we're talking about it at
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: the beginning of the show.
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I feel like I initially coming into
- 1:37:17Speaker 6: off season was kind of like I don't I mean,
- 1:37:19Speaker 6: I was just kind of so depressed with the roster
- 1:37:21Speaker 6: that I just was in that phase of like just
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: let everybody go out. But you know, I just I
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: think the bigger point though, is just even though guys
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: have some wortz and they might not be perfect, they're
- 1:37:31Speaker 6: your guys and you've you've put time into them. And
- 1:37:33Speaker 6: and I think both those guys, especially off the field
- 1:37:36Speaker 6: as well, you know, have the traits you want to
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: keep around and you want to build around. So when
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: you have this much cap space and you're not making
- 1:37:42Speaker 6: tough decisions, you know, I think that's just it's almost
- 1:37:45Speaker 6: more to me about this message it sends to the team,
- 1:37:48Speaker 6: and that's why, you know, I think to the transition
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: tag earlier, it is a little bit like not ideal.
- 1:37:55Speaker 6: I mean, ideally you'd love to say, hey, we're gonna
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: roll Big Mike and Kyle Duggar out same day, same table.
- 1:38:01Speaker 6: They both signed contracts, and this is you know, this
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: is how things are gonna get done around here. But
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: you know we'll see. I mean, look, we're gonna learn
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: a lot in the.
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: Next four days, zaying in New Jersey, if Mac Jones
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: was actually good, then Bailey ZAPPI wouldn't have played in
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: the exact situation as Mac and performed as well or better.
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: I was off the Mac train when he continuously made
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: dirty plays to opposing teams.
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: That's fine. I just for the record, I am not
- 1:38:23Speaker 5: saying that Mac Jones is good. I am just saying
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: that they.
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: Hypothetical that the emailer brought into this whole discussion, like
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: think both things can be true.
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: Mac might not doesn't have it, and they butchered the
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: situation like that, that's all we're saying.
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: Well, I think they I still think they could have
- 1:38:40Speaker 6: pulled a little bit more out of Mac, you know,
- 1:38:41Speaker 6: like it's not I I don't know they could have
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: done one.
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: You mentioned the free agents though, and their own free agents.
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: Mike on winnho I think is a really is kind
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: of a tough one for me because scheme fit. I
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: think he's a guard, like I don't think. I don't
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: think he's a tackle, and the scheme fits great, and
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: he's gonna be a top of the market Guard. You're
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: gonna be paying him fifteen sixteen, seventeen million dollars a year,
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: and I just I mean, you don't have to tell
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: Paul that we don't have to pay guards seventeen million
- 1:39:14Speaker 5: dollars a year.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Oh, but I do recognize you guys have been talking
- 1:39:17Speaker 4: about this for a long time, both of you and
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: I do recognize that your situation on the offensive line.
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: I like to diminish the importance of the offensive line
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: doesn't mean you can have no proven commodities on the
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: offensive line. David Andrews, I think is back in the middle.
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: The rest to me, without a when you is really
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: hard to project and it's a question mark. So I
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: get it. You don't want to spend money on a WHENU,
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: but you might have to.
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: Yeah, you'd love it if if it was like Cold
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: Strange City Show and Antonio Maffi, you know, rises up
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: and you've got a good trio that you know you
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: can make it work. It doesn't have to be elite.
- 1:39:52Speaker 4: Can two out of those three be very you know?
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: So Mafi and Jake.
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: Andrews next to Andrew, Can you get.
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: Two out of those three to be good players?
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: I think I think City is a serviceable game. He
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: was definitely the best of those three lines, especially as
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: a run blocker, and we'll see how the pass blocking progresses.
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: But their best interior line next year to me is
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: is you know City David Andrews Big Mic, you know,
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: left to right, and i'd where that leaves cold strange,
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: I frankly don't care, but I just you're paying Big
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: Mic a lot of money that either way, and he's not.
- 1:40:24Speaker 5: I don't think you're paying him a lot of money
- 1:40:26Speaker 5: to play tackle. So that's just something you have to
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: talk about.
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: It's going to be interesting to see how they viewed
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: strange and like what what what that all is like
- 1:40:31Speaker 6: because I mean, as Paul said, I mean our opinion
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: of that pick and and he certainly. I mean, I
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: know we had a few good games last year and
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: maybe starting to show a little bit. But it's just
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: be interesting if they're just like nope and they just
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: cut them, you know, something like that, where it's like, wow,
- 1:40:44Speaker 6: it really was as bad as it.
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: Kind of seemed with him well, and plus you know,
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: now with the new regime, there's no like I don't
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: want to say loyalty, yeah right.
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: Exactly, Yeah, you know, they don't feel tied to him anymore.
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: I mean, there is still still bad the guys that
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: draft of them here, the coach, they didn't want.
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: Him, you know, I think, Mac, why do you know something?
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: I was going to make faces or do you know something?
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: I just can't. I just can't go there. I can't
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: put it all on. Like, I know, Bill had the
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: final say, and he's responsible for picking guys, but I
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: just can't say that everyone that's bad nobody else wanted them.
- 1:41:21Speaker 4: And I can't believe like Bill had final say, ultimately
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: he's responsible. And I asked me why the last ten
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: years drafted be like and I will say Bill Belichick
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: did not do it.
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: And I can't believe in this instance that people who
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: spent the whole year watching film of college players decided
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: to take a guard from Chattanooga, Tennessee in the first round.
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: I can't believe that that's a Bill pick.
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: Okay, then he should be cut.
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: Then he was Oh you mean col Strange.
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: Yeah, if everybody else hated him and he played the
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: way he did in the two years, I expect him
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: to be out of a job.
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: I'm saying, Bill, probably we need a guard. We need
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: a guard. We need a guard. You know. I like
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: this kid. He's you know, blah blah blah, smart kid.
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: God owned in mobile. But I saw something different, you know.
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: Ayah, listen, I can't tell you you're wrong. I don't
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: know what the true story is. You might be right,
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: you might be right.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: My favorite part about the Cold Strange pick now is
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: like the Bilbos have come out and decided that he's
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: actually good at football. Like Cold Strange is.
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: That he's just this happened after his rookie year. Oh,
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: he's a quality guard after Bill Belichick, who evidently is
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: the only one in the in the the six one
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: seven area code who had any belief in him. But
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: he might bench them three times in his rookie year.
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: And everybody told me in the off season that I
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: was wrong for saying that he had a bad.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: He might end up being here decent, but you didn't
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: have to take him in the first round.
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: Oh I, that's a different argument. I'm totally with you
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: on that.
- 1:42:48Speaker 6: It's like talking about but he.
- 1:42:51Speaker 4: Wasn't good first round, fifth round, He got benched three
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: times his rookie year.
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: The point is is that the guy that they drafted
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: in the fourth roundelast year in City, so has already
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: put better film out than the first round.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: Picked it like.
- 1:43:04Speaker 5: He's so he's already better, Like he's an already better player.
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: It's why it was a dereliction of duty to draft
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: him in the like again, third round, fourth round, okay,
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: but the.
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: First round, especially with where the on that like, I
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: mean it's I mean, not to go too far back,
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: but I mean those drafts were just so critical.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: I mean, it's just he had to hit on all
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: those for this to like keep the train rolling. Again,
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: he didn't, and that's.
- 1:43:29Speaker 5: What's the first two And the people that like talk
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: about Elliott Wolf as an executive and how he might draft.
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing is is with Bill that
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: he ran into problems is that he would just fall
- 1:43:40Speaker 5: in love with these guys for whatever reason, you know,
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: whether it was football related, the interview process, whatever, that
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: he didn't care that everybody else had him in the
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: third round because he really liked that guy. And with
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: with Wolf, what you hear is is like he's gonna
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: shop at Louis Vuitton, Like he's not going to go
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: and get the knockoff brand. He's gonna get the best athletes,
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: and like that's why I think they drafted Christian Gonzales
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: last year.
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: Yeah. To him, the value is in the talent, not
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: yeah anything else.
- 1:44:09Speaker 5: Right, Bill, It was so much about you know, what's
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: your role, what's your fit in my system? What kind
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: of guy are you? And like those things are all important,
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: but at the end of the day, if you don't
- 1:44:18Speaker 5: have the talent, then you're not gonna make it.
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: Otto is on the keep Mac Jones train. He says,
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: we need to keep them, draft Marvin Harrison. Then based
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: off what Judin said, try and get Josh Jacobs and
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: Calvin Ridley or Judy or Sutton, or if we can
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: trade for Ayuk and then take a quarterback second round,
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: either Pennix or bow Knicks. And if Mac can't do it,
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: then we have Nix or Pennix. And he has a
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: scenario the QBS Mac. The running backs are Josh Jacob
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: and Stevenson. The wide receivers of Marvin Harrison and Junior
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: Ridley and Douglas. The tight end is Kasiki. He said,
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: that's way better than what Mac headley. What else Douglas
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: and Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: You need a quarterback that that you'd have the makings
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: of an offense. You need a quarterback, that's all.
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and he thinks it could be Mac but he
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: wouldn't be good. That's his opinion.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: Those guys are too good for his talent. I'm dead
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: serious that he wouldn't be able to maximize Harrison and Ridley.
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: Do you think that that the Patriots are going to
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: make a splat? No, I don't want to call a spot.
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: Do you think they're going to sign a name free
- 1:45:23Speaker 6: agent running back next week like one of these guys
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: Tony Pollard, Eckler Singletary.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: I think it was like Zeke was technically that right,
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: So I think it's possible.
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: Though, Yeah, I would say to Mike's question, that would
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: not apply. Like the last one standing when we're desperate
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: in training camp doesn't apply to it. Dalvin Cook has
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: just got a big name too, same thing. But you're
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: saying I did holler Jacobs, Barkley, Yeah, like yeah, Eckler, Yeah,
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: I mean the usually guys, all those guys are free agents.
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: Well, I mean usually we're all on the same page
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: as just draft him, let him.
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: You know, Normally I would say absolutely no chance, but
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: this is a new regime, so I don't know. I
- 1:46:05Speaker 4: don't know.
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: That could be mini Patriots news. Alex Austin officially on
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: the exclusive rights free attack.
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: It's the guy that I was credited with saying wasn't
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: an NFL player, and it took me ten minutes to
- 1:46:19Speaker 4: realize after you said that was Alex Austin. Alex Austen.
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: I don't know enough about Alex Austin to say he's
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: good or not.
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: And I would say encouraging down the stretch because I'm
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: the one I had to pick correct right encouraging film
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: down the streach. But a nice pick on Josh Allen
- 1:46:35Speaker 5: late in the first half of the Buffalo game. Very nice.
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: Darren is still trap. Darren is Saint Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada.
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: For Evan, You and Alex recommended the Patriots keep it
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: simple Okham's razor, although Oukham never used these words exactly.
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: Many agree with that's Alex thing. I have no idea
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: what that.
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: Meansities must not be necessity. Perhaps an intangible carries as
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: much weight as raw talent. I've always felt that the
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: winning Patriot teams were overachievers, often playing above their talent
- 1:47:03Speaker 3: due to what I refer to as the human factor.
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: The human factor is intangible and can't be parsed out.
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: Tapping into this potential has been done in the past
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: by those who inspire Slater, Jules Gronk, Brady, et cetera,
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: who in the draft has given you that same feeling. Wow,
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: that's a long way to grant us House the opposite
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: of Okham's razor. Anyway, go ahead.
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: I would just say that I once was of the
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: same belief that those Patriots teams were what he just
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: said in hindsight, I think that was Patriots teams were
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: loaded with talent, you know, like I.
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: Think because you could see the difference, right, But I mean,
- 1:47:37Speaker 4: I think you're also grossly underestimating Tom Brady. You're right.
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: I'm just saying, you know, a guy, you know, to
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: say that the twenty ten's Patriots were like the little
- 1:47:46Speaker 5: engine that could, I think is not a fair characterization.
- 1:47:49Speaker 5: But in terms of the guys that do that in
- 1:47:51Speaker 5: this draft, I don't know. I I think a guy
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: like Penix honestly is sort of like that to me,
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: where you know, just the intangible as the leadership, the
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: ability to bounce back from the injuries like that guy
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: could have easily just fallen by the way part. Yeah,
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: those injuries, and I think that that's the most encouraging
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: thing about him.
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: Yeah. I just think that when you put Brady in
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: that like scrappy overachiever thing, just because he was the
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: one hundred and ninety ninth pick of the draft doesn't
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: mean that he's not the greatest player he's ever played. Right,
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: like this, we were wrong, like he had a lot
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: more ability than anybody. It gave him credit for.
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: Anthony writes in he says, both things are true. Mac
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: is not good and the team did everything they could
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: to ruin him.
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: My question is I could kiss that guy in the lips.
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: Do you think the team thought Mac was better and
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: could win with what was given, or that they were
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: just too out of touch with developing a young quarterback
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: in today's league and bungled it be both.
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: I think that they were too out of touch with
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: building a roster around the young quarterback. I don't necessarily
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: think that they did it is such something that they
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: did so wrong with Mac specifically. I just think that,
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: you know, you looked at all these success stories for
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: these quarterbacks, and all these teams were doing it a
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: certain way when that quarterback was cheap and the Patriots
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: just didn't do any of those things.
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: Like here's where I will put it on Bill Freddy Is.
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: I just think that that's his philosophy. It was, I
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: don't need the quarterback. I just I'm gonna put the
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: defense together. I'm gonna quarterback and close. You know, I
- 1:49:30Speaker 4: can I can win with any I can plug anybody
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: in there and as long as I get a semblance.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: And I think if you hooked him up to a
- 1:49:36Speaker 4: lot of detector right now, he would say that team
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: last year would have been fine with just any quarterback play.
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: They they got less than any quarterback play, right Mac
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: was a disaster. Yeah, And I think that he would say,
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: you know, he did say that during the season seven, three, seven, six,
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: and in ten, ten to seven, like those are three
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: wins with any semblance of quarterback play.
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: I won't go into details, but after watching the full Dynasty,
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: that point of view carries a little bit more water
- 1:50:06Speaker 6: for me.
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: I really think that that's something that does come out
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: And I don't want to give that away that Mike
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: just alluded to, because it was something in the tenth episode.
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: I think so that hasn't come out yet, but I
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: think that that mentality is pretty accurate. I'm not not
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: this this thing as an absolute like he doesn't think
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: that you could take Johnny Foxborough.
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: But you need to turn over, you know, and they
- 1:50:31Speaker 6: got to find a way to be clutched.
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: But he thinks, just don't screw it up. I'll do
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: the rest right. And I think there's a lot of
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: validity to that thought for him.
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: Anthony also says, I can't wait till June. Let's get
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: past the draft so we can discuss best desserts. So
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: with the slot tides best sports movie, couldn't agree more cool? Disagree?
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: I'm so done with We're not even close.
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: I'm excited because my favorite bakery was about to close
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: in LA but it reopened and I'm going to go
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: out there in a couple months and I'm going to
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: get myself some Oreo Tiramasu, which is.
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: My time already care about that.
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: I love this Areo. Oh that Oreo teer Massu is
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: just it's the best. Wow, it's my favorite. I'm not
- 1:51:09Speaker 6: having on my birth really impressed my birthday.
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you very much, Brandon, says Evan have
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: you ever thought about going back and looking at TV
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: twelve's film from Michigan and scouting him solely from what
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: from that and the other players. It'd be interested in
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: the things you could see visibly improved.
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I've thought about it, but get most of the
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: stuff that I've found is like, you know, the quality
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: just there's no all twenty two is I don't even
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: know if he's actually film.
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: That's really really difficult to do. Oh yeah, like how
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: do you separate the it's Tom can't I'm really gonna
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: be the guy that's gonna write to say this right,
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: obviously there's nothing he can't do except for run.
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: Well yeah, and the and the whole you know, playing
- 1:51:51Speaker 6: well under pressure thing that you can't.
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: Make plays platform. It's really disluging. Nowadays, Paul really.
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: Is Ashley in London. This is more for Paul and Fred.
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: Did you ever bump into Bill in the building. I
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: guess more than the off season where he'd engage in
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: a conversation with you. That wasn't the most awkward situation imaginable?
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: Yes, Paul, Yeah, a long time ago.
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: Well, you gotta, you gotta you got a friendly hello Paul.
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: This year didn't you.
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: I did.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: I got a couple this year, this past year. But
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: I will also say not necessarily like random bumping into conversations,
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: because those are almost none. Like random bumping into it's
- 1:52:31Speaker 4: a high as you walk by, that's it, you know.
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: But like TV production meetings for the preseason games, he
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: is sort of engaged a little bit more than he
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: would at a press conference, like with me and individually
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: I'm talking about There was one he was sort of
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: demonstrating a cornerback technique, you know, the whole cliche of
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: why are the quarterbacks they never look back? You know what?
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: The short answer that is because they're taught not to.
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: But he was sort of explaining the technique, you know,
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: trail technique, you know, staying in phase, hand placement. I mean,
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: my god, your eyes were bug bulging out this guy
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: by the end. This Like I try to tell you,
- 1:53:11Speaker 4: I have no interest in this. It's not like I
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: don't know anything about, right, I just have no interest
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: in it.
- 1:53:15Speaker 6: If everyone, we have to start the meeting.
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: Guy anyway, I was I was the receiver and said demonstration,
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: and he was the dB putting his hands like you know,
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: it's like so Paul goes through the deep ball and
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: Paul has his hands up and when that's that's a
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: tell when you see, you know, he goes there are
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: other things that they look. They're looking at facial expressions,
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: they're looking like this. I'm telling you. He went on
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: for ten minutes about all these little intricacies, and you
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: can just imagine how much you know, expands and how
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: much more expansive that is for every position, for every situation,
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: for every detail. Yeah, but there was times that it
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: was much more engaging my answers than others.
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: I would say that there's very few people that have
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: developed defensive backs better than Bill Belichick.
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: Especially undrafted ones. He is, they were drafted high.
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: There's a lot of things that you know as a
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: head coach, but like in terms of him in that respect,
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: I don't know if there's anybody that has a better
- 1:54:18Speaker 5: track record with dbs than Bill Belichick.
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: I mean just every single one he touches. You know
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: about the amounts undrafted cornerbacks, you know, from Randall Gay
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: to j. C. Jackson to Jonathan Jones, Malcolm Butler, like
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: Miles Bryant, that there's a lot of undrafted guys that
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: turned into more than serviceable players in some regards, really
- 1:54:41Speaker 4: good players, but there's just as many second round picks
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: that busted. Juan Williams, Cyrus Jones, Wheatley, he.
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: Would tell you it's all about being coachable.
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: Duke Dawson.
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: Yeah, no, they just their system is actually probably right Fred,
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: It's actually simple, I believe it or not in terms
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: of what they do technique wise and coverage wise, which
- 1:55:05Speaker 5: a lot of guys say. You know, they simplify it
- 1:55:07Speaker 5: so well that you're just, you know, all you gotta
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: do is think about like one or two things instead
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: of just thinking about everything.
- 1:55:14Speaker 6: Seems like the hard part is pre snap and getting
- 1:55:17Speaker 6: everybody on the same page and in the right spot,
- 1:55:19Speaker 6: and then once you know where you are and what
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: your responsibility, that you can do your job.
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: They do really good job of playing off of help.
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: So like corners, when they're on the outside, you know,
- 1:55:29Speaker 5: they'll know that they have a robber and they have
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: a post safety, so like there's certain routes that they
- 1:55:34Speaker 5: can just eliminate from their Oh, I don't even need
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: to worry about the post because Devin mccorty is going
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: to be on the post. Like those types of things
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: help a lot.
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: Let's see. Mussad writes in after the mccordy and Slater
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: of retirements in back to back off seasons, who do
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: you view as the team's leaders going forward?
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: That's great question.
- 1:55:52Speaker 6: I mean David Andrews, of course, teacher Wise Bentley, those
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: are I mean, those are the three. But there's no
- 1:55:58Speaker 6: question that it's gonna be a new team. You guys
- 1:56:00Speaker 6: have to emerge and there's gonna be starting spots.
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: Judan could be if he sticks around.
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: Yeah, who Jabrill Peppers Rill, my guy?
- 1:56:08Speaker 5: Oh, your guy?
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: I would put into that mix. But yes, it's it's
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: it's Bentley, It's Andrews. Those are the two that really
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: stick out to me.
- 1:56:15Speaker 3: And Claire writes in Hello everyone, Hello, we're in. I
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: know Paul may roll his eyes at this. Sorry not sorry,
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: but the absence of tight end is real. Do you
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: guys have an opinion of any particular tight end draft
- 1:56:28Speaker 3: d and also whereabouts would you be happy that they
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: drafted a tight end?
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: The Texas portion of the show begins, Uh, I figure
- 1:56:37Speaker 4: that was.
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: I was lining you up forge Davian Sanders. Yeah, he's
- 1:56:40Speaker 5: on my down list for the combine, though only ran
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: a four six nine. Not not what I was hoping for.
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: I really, what if they traded down and took brock Baty.
- 1:56:50Speaker 6: Oh geez, I kind of mean I gotta look a
- 1:56:53Speaker 6: little more into that. Did Jared Wiley kid from TCU.
- 1:56:55Speaker 6: He's the big, big dude, you know, And that's like,
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: those are the guys Benson It. We talked a lot
- 1:57:00Speaker 6: about love Ben Senate, but you know, it's just you
- 1:57:02Speaker 6: gotta look at like the day three guys with some
- 1:57:04Speaker 6: traits and uh.
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: Theo Johnson from Penn State killed the combines athletic freak,
- 1:57:09Speaker 5: didn't really tap into it at Penn State. Ben sent It,
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: I think is like a football player, like he's not
- 1:57:15Speaker 5: as good as Sam Laporta, but he kind of has
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: some Sam Laporti e type traits. And uh, I kind
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: of like some of the free agent titands too. I
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: know a lot of people don't love this class free agents,
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: but you know, I'd take no offense.
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: I would.
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: I would take Gerald Everett.
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: Font noa font on this that would be great.
- 1:57:31Speaker 4: Just so you know, like tackle, they do not have
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: any tight ends. So I am not rolling my eyes.
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: They don't have any tight ends.
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: It's also not it's also not a particularly good tight
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: end draft class.
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: All right, So that's gonna be it for this edition
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: and for the third show final time. If you want
