Transcript
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, Emily Abadi here you are listening to five
- 0:24Speaker 1: Minute Friday from Hurdle. I heard a really good analogy
- 0:29Speaker 1: yesterday and I want to share it with all of you.
- 0:33Speaker 1: The analogy is there is, let's say, a dingy old
- 0:40Speaker 1: car that you keep in your parking spot, and you
- 0:45Speaker 1: keep the car there because it's not really doing anything
- 0:50Speaker 1: bad to you, but you just don't feel motivated to
- 0:55Speaker 1: move it. It's just it is how it is. Meanwhile,
- 1:01Speaker 1: as this dingy old car is sitting in the parking spot,
- 1:06Speaker 1: your dream car, let's call it a range rover, shall we.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Your range rover is circling right around your parking lot
- 1:18Speaker 1: and it cannot stop. It cannot park because there's nowhere
- 1:23Speaker 1: for it to go. So you know what happens when
- 1:27Speaker 1: you take the initiative and you move the dingy car
- 1:32Speaker 1: out from the parking spot that you've just been letting
- 1:37Speaker 1: sit there, been letting you've just allowed to sit there
- 1:40Speaker 1: for so long. Well, suddenly your dream car now has
- 1:45Speaker 1: a place to go. I was told this story in
- 1:50Speaker 1: the context of dating, to be clear, but I know
- 1:56Speaker 1: and believe that this metaphor can be so applicable to
- 2:00Speaker 1: so many things in life. And I want to bring
- 2:04Speaker 1: it around to habit formation, because oftentimes there are practices
- 2:10Speaker 1: things that we are doing in our life that don't
- 2:12Speaker 1: really serve us, but we do them. We execute that way.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We just go about things with that habit in place,
- 2:23Speaker 1: because we don't want to exercise the energy to implement
- 2:27Speaker 1: something new that could be better for us. I will
- 2:31Speaker 1: give you an example. Let's say right now, you have
- 2:35Speaker 1: a morning routine that you like to sit on the
- 2:39Speaker 1: couch and watch the news for an hour, and this
- 2:41Speaker 1: is something that you have done for years. Morning TV
- 2:45Speaker 1: is a comfort zone for you. As much as I
- 2:49Speaker 1: can appreciate that, what if you were willing to remove
- 2:55Speaker 1: yourself from this comfortable environment for a week or two
- 2:59Speaker 1: and try something different, and then you open yourself to
- 3:03Speaker 1: the positivity that can come with mixing up your routine.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Maybe you're now taking a walk and listening to a
- 3:11Speaker 1: morning podcast instead of sitting on the couch and watching television. Man,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I mean bring this to working out in general. Think
- 3:20Speaker 1: about that saying nothing changes, If nothing changes, I know
- 3:23Speaker 1: so many women that are interested in developing muscle or
- 3:28Speaker 1: losing weight, which I feel like even just saying that
- 3:31Speaker 1: someone could be interested in losing weight like gets people
- 3:33Speaker 1: on the defense. But I digress. You're interested in doing
- 3:38Speaker 1: one of these things and you don't understand why it's
- 3:41Speaker 1: not happening, and it's not happening because nothing's changing. You're
- 3:45Speaker 1: not changing your approach to get different results. If you
- 3:48Speaker 1: want different results, you can't do the same thing that
- 3:50Speaker 1: you've always been doing and not getting the results that
- 3:54Speaker 1: you're after. You have that old car parked in the
- 3:59Speaker 1: parking spot when there are other beautiful solutions just waiting
- 4:04Speaker 1: to come into your orbit. You get what I'm saying here.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I think you get what I'm saying here. And although yes,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I will certainly take the range rover when it comes
- 4:13Speaker 1: to dating, I feel as though there are, without a doubt,
- 4:18Speaker 1: aspects of my habits, my routine where I am just
- 4:22Speaker 1: doing things because I'm a little intimidated to open myself
- 4:27Speaker 1: up to something new. I'm allowing something to sit that
- 4:31Speaker 1: isn't serving me. And I know that you can relate,
- 4:35Speaker 1: So ask yourself, what do you keeping in the parking
- 4:38Speaker 1: spot that you need to release that needs to go
- 4:40Speaker 1: to the toepound. I know that you're following me on
- 4:43Speaker 1: this journey, so we're okay here what are you keeping
- 4:47Speaker 1: in the parking spot? And now a listener question. Hi Emily,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm a longtime fan and Instagram follower. Thank you so
- 4:57Speaker 1: much for all that you do and your constant inspiration.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I am newly getting started out with affiliate links and
- 5:04Speaker 1: I have no idea where to begin. I don't have
- 5:08Speaker 1: a large following, but I feel like if I can
- 5:10Speaker 1: monetize this in some way, it could be super helpful
- 5:14Speaker 1: for me. Any insight would be so greatly appreciated. Thank
- 5:18Speaker 1: you so much for all that you do and acting
- 5:20Speaker 1: like a friend to so many of us cec CC
- 5:25Speaker 1: affiliate links. This is a good topic and it's something
- 5:29Speaker 1: that I don't think that everyone understands how it works.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So an affiliate link is a link that gains commission
- 5:36Speaker 1: for someone who posts it, and you can gain that
- 5:40Speaker 1: commission when you sign up for a website or a
- 5:44Speaker 1: service that helps both create these links and then has
- 5:47Speaker 1: partnerships with brands that encourage creators to then make links
- 5:54Speaker 1: with their platform drive traffic to the brand. The creator
- 5:57Speaker 1: gets paid, the brand gets paid, everyone wins. That's me
- 6:01Speaker 1: putting it in Layman's terms. Now you can work with
- 6:06Speaker 1: a brand one on one to set up an affiliate model,
- 6:09Speaker 1: or you can use third party sites that have deals
- 6:12Speaker 1: with brands. Like I said, to make this all a
- 6:15Speaker 1: lot easier, I use a few different affiliate sites. My
- 6:20Speaker 1: most popular one, I would say, is like to Know It.
- 6:22Speaker 1: That's that abbreviation LTK that you might see on the socials.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I like like to Know It because you have a
- 6:29Speaker 1: landing page. Another site or service that offers a similar
- 6:33Speaker 1: experience is called shop my. And then a very popular
- 6:36Speaker 1: editorial affiliate company is called skim Links. And I just
- 6:41Speaker 1: want to say that anyone can start with affiliate linking
- 6:45Speaker 1: and you can earn up to I mean some programs
- 6:48Speaker 1: pay upward of twenty percent commission for a sale, so
- 6:52Speaker 1: you're basically just acting as a sales agent for a brand.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Now it goes without saying, it's super important and that
- 7:00Speaker 1: you trust the people that you're getting recommendations from. Clearly,
- 7:04Speaker 1: in some arenas that is way more important than others.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It's one thing to get a recommendation for a pair
- 7:11Speaker 1: of genes. It's another thing to get a recommendation for
- 7:15Speaker 1: a piece of gym equipment or a supplement something that
- 7:18Speaker 1: you could be putting in your body. You want to
- 7:20Speaker 1: make sure that you are looking to qualified experts for
- 7:24Speaker 1: your recommendations, and they should be disclosing whether or not
- 7:27Speaker 1: they are using affiliate links. Anyway, I hope that this helps.
- 7:31Speaker 1: If you have more affiliate questions or I'm just on
- 7:34Speaker 1: the hunt for your listener questions in general, email me
- 7:38Speaker 1: over at Hello at hurdle dot us. You can also
- 7:41Speaker 1: slide into the DMS over on social It's at Hurdle
- 7:43Speaker 1: Podcast and I am over at Emily a Body another
