- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Folks, you guys know the drill.
- 0:01SPEAKER_01: Here's how it's gonna work tonight.
- 0:02SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna give you guys some takes, some hot takes, some things I believe in, things that I'm seeing in the college football world.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: You have two options.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: One, to punt.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Mike, that's a stupid take.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: No, I disagree.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: I don't like it.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: Punt it out of my life.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Or two, go for it.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: You agree, you are on board, you see where this is going, you see the vision, you believe, you believe, and you are riding with me on the train for the call, the go for it call.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: Are you guys ready?
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Ready?
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Rock and rock and roll.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: So, start with the first pun on go for it.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about Oklahoma.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma is not having a good year.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: So they are, I believe, two and two.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Their offense is terrible.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: They have an elite, elite, elite defense.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: But the Ben Arbuckle is the officer coordinator, John Mateer, the quarterback who came with him from Washington State, has simply not worked out.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Here is my argument for you guys.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma is going to be fine.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: All that's happened this time is Brent Venimals got the wrong OC.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Let's not forget, he hired the right one before.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: He hired Jeff Levy.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Jeff Levy is now working his magic with Camario Taylor in Starkville.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: He just left, so we had to replace him.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: He's a head coach.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: He's one for one on his OC hires.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: He just didn't work out this one time.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: In general, he's going to the OC right.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: And when that happens, he's going to have the defense.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Brent Venables is still an elite defensive coordinator of mine.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: It just didn't work out this time of the OC.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Here's my punter go for it to you.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Long term, Brent Venables will work out at Oklahoma University.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Punt or go for it.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: He was my coach's pick to get fired.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Um, so this is going against what I said the other day.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, if I were to bet on Venables, I don't know, man.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: He was recently extended to.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: That means somebody who knows something has invested millions in him.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So you know what?
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go for it.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I think you're right.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: I think he is gonna be just fine with Mateer, because Mateer still has some tools in the tool bag.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: He's got some tricks up his sleeve.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Uh Red River is gonna turn it all around.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Red River, the underdog, is my favorite pick of this game, whoever that underdog is.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And so it's Oklahoma.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: They're gonna restart their year and they're gonna be just fine.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: This is easy.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: It's fourth and inches midfield.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Venables is staying.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: He's gonna be fine.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: 24 months from now, we'll look back at this and be like, oh my gosh, they were.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad they brought in this person to be the OC.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Go for it.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: I'm Ben Johnson aggressive on this one.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: I just the their team with resources.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma's one of the better jobs in college football.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's frustrating.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, you've I mean if you're if you're an Oklahoma fan, I mean, I will I want to I'm I want to I want to offer my shoulder to cry a little bit here.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: You've got to be pulling your hair out, watching this defense play, which is loaded with NFL players every level, and just saying, oh my god, we can't get a first down.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Like it's gotta be maddening.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: But here's the thing that's going with Venables.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Venables brought that.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: He is an elite DC.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And if he can just figure out someone to bring somebody in the offense, I think it's gonna work out.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: So I'm glad we all kind of agree that while this year might be a wash, seven and five, six and six, whatever, long term, if you're an Oklahoma fan, I think you gotta be feeling pretty good.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: No Matir.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: All right, number two, let's talk about the ACC, the Atlantic Coast Conference.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Guys, what a mess.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: We had so many good things to say about Louisville at one point.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Pitt was looking real good.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Their starting quarterback just went down.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: UVA all of a sudden can't do anything.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Louisville is losing to at NC State.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: What a mess.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Gentlemen, Wake Forest is the second best team in the ACC.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And I don't really see what how much argument there really is out there.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: You could make the case for SMU just kind of by default.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: They're kind of the best team with talent.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Florida State and Clemson have fallen by the wayside for sure.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Wake Forest is an outstanding team.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: They are well coached.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: They have Gio Lopez, I believe, is their quarterback.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Jake Dickert is one is probably the best coach on the chopping block next year.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: I should say chopping block.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: He is one of the best coaches that's going to get promoted.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: He's the he's to be the first phone call, I think, for a lot of people, really for good reason.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Punt or go for it.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Wake Forest is the second best team in the ACC.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: No, I'm going to punt on this one.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Duke is the number two team right now in the ACC.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: They are undefeated.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: They've got a pretty easy schedule.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: I think they've got Miami coming up in a couple weeks.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Wake Forest is up there.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Wake Forest is knocking at the door.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: And I can see them jumping up to that two spot, but I don't think they're surpassing Duke at this point.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: I'm going to grab Tory Taylor, and we are going to punt one of the finest punters in Iowa history.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: The Aussie.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm going to punt as well.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Give me a neutral field game between your Wake Forest proposed second best team and Duke Blue Devils, SMU Mustangs, Virginia Tech Hokies, and I think they are not the second best team against those teams.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: I would say they're in that group.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: They're with SMU Duke.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I would say Louisville as well.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Louisville's record looks pretty poo-poo with the with the two losses, but if they were all to play again, Wake Forest would be in the wash, in the mix.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: So here on October 6th, they're riding their absolute highest of the year, if not the decade.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: And so they're going to come back down to earth.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: So I'll be honest with you, Duke was the other team I was really considering for this actually punter go for it.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: But if you look at their sketch, if you look at their wins, they're starting to fall apart.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Tulane is now two and two.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Illinois just lost to Purdue.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: You can't be too excited about being Stanford or for my sin, William and Mary, Bill and Mary, my alma mater, hark upon the gale, y'all.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: So I'm just, you know, if I I like the Duke argument.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: And I don't even hate it.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: I was gonna go for it, but I'm just I'm starting to see kinks in their armor in a way that I have not seen a wake.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: And I'm just impressed that I don't think that I don't think that Miami game was a fluke.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: I think Wake Forest put themselves in position to play a close game against them, which is right now the best anything anybody can say about the disparity between Miami and everybody else.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: So fair enough.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I respect both both of you as play callers are you can you can you keep your headsets for that one.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Good punts.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Good punts for both of you.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: All right, next one.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Number eight.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Hark on that gale, y'all.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Hark upon that gale, y'all.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Weird flex, but okay.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Really bizarre.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I really know.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: I still don't know what it means.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Graduated there six years ago, I couldn't tell you.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: I'll talk about BYU.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: BYU at number eight makes no sense.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: I want you to just do here's a little exercise.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: So if you're so if you're listening to this on a podcast or YouTube, I want you to do something for me and then pause.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: I'll give you a second.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Pull up the AP top 25 or the coach's poll top 25 on your screen.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Go ahead and pause.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: I'll give you a second to do that right now.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: All right, you've you can go ahead and unpause.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: We're back.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Look at that AP top 25 in the coaches poll.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Take out the teams, the other teams in the Big 12.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: How far down on that list do you have to go before you would find a team that you would take BYU over in a neutral site?
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Ole Miss, LSU, Oregon, Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, is it USC and Iowa?
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Like, where in the 20s are the high teens do you have to get down there before?
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Houston at 22.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: It's a Big 12 team.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: That's a Big 12 team.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: If you take out those Big 12s, if you take out those Big 12 squats, those Big 12 schools, you got to go way down that list before you pick a neutral site game where you would pick BYU.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: This is here.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: I wish I had some tinfoil.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: I need some tinfoil.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: If I had some tinfoil, I'd put it on right now.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: My conspiracy theory is they're doing this to give Notre Dame a top 10 win in two weeks when BYU goes there.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Obviously, that promotes Notre Dame's resume for their playoffs.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: They really have no other competition there on there other than Miami, of course, the game of November.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: What are we doing with BYU at number eight?
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Punter, go for it.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: BYU at number eight makes no sense.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Go for it.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: And and I can also offer a small peek behind the curtain.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: The reason they sit there is because they have that zero in the loss column.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And so our AP voters care about that so much.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And so the AP jolt the AP poll here is a bit of a joke in that way because they rank those zeros, they put Ohio State in the zeros because they're Ohio State.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: And then they, you know, get to the get to the one-loss teams and fill out the one-loss teams the rest of the way.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: There's Texas Tech, Utah, there's there's this big 12 group of teams, including what you're saying, BYU, who have that zero, but they don't belong above all these teams.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: You're exactly right.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: All the SEC teams you listed off.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, LSU.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Like that's crazy.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: BYU should be considered down in the 20 range, 20 to 25 range, along with my hokies, Boise State, and SMU.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: I don't know that I want to go that far.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: I I think I I think single digits they're a little off.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: I think that's they're a little inflated right now because of the tarot.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: I think they end up being 12 to 17.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: I think that's probably more appropriate, but it's definitely not eight.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: I guess in that aspect, I have to go for it.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: I I but nothing nothing I've seen out of them wows me yet.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: And it's a good spot on take that mic.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Michael, the conspiracy theory about the tinfoil hat about it was done on purpose by the AP voters, so Notre Dame gets a top ten win.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: That's where I'll pause.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: I don't I gotta punt on that.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I don't think I don't think you can convince a thousand voters across the country to give Notre Dame's resume.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I love I love that you thought about that, and it's fun to talk about.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: It's not anywhere close to reality, but no, yeah, I wouldn't I I wouldn't but put a lot of money on that.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: But I'm just I'm just saying it's weird, it's conspicuous, and they are, and obviously the game is the BYU, the BYU Notre Dame games, I think it's it's not this Saturday, it's next Saturday.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: So and the ABC has already slated as the 730 game.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if game day is gonna be there or not, but like they are already trying to sell the veggies out of it.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Does that mean that's why they got number eight of the ranking?
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Probably not, but I'm just saying it's awfully convenient to have a top 10 matchup in Provo.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Is that where Provo?
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Is that where BYU is?
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, Provo.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: It's awfully helpful to have a uh top 10 matchup on there.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: And I'll tell you what, I'm a little bit of a sicko myself.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: I BYU's hosting Iowa State on Friday night.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: I'm sprinkling a little bit of the money line.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: They're 10 and a half point dogs.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: I can get that at plus 350.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Don't sleep on the cyclones coming here and be the ultimate party poopers for next week's marquee game.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying, Iowa State's not that bad.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: We already talked about them with Iowa, Iowa State two weeks ago.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Iowa fans on this call know well that Iowa State's not that bad.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: Don't sleep on the cyclones.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: If you're feeling, if you're feeling like a real crazy person, give me a little Iowa State moneyline sprinkle later this week.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: I want to be clear that I love BYU and I still love them.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: They haven't done they haven't done, I'm with you, so I go for it.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: They haven't done number eight in the AP poll type of work yet.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: And so a team like this, I would take my poll and I would put them in the 20 range, like I said, until they did something, which I believe they can do.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: You know, they're gonna put up a great game against Notre Dame at home.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be fireworks, and that's all gonna be good.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Then you vault yourself up there, but they haven't quite got there yet.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: So go for it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: All right, let's move it on.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Number four.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Punch group number four.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Penn State University is going to be the poster child for The Grass Isn't Always Greener in 2026.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Obviously, the big the big news last year was the firing of James Franklin.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: He'd been there for 10 years, he won 10 games every year, could never win the big one, got dismissed halfway through the season.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Hokies hired him immediately.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Hokies seem like they're on the big upswing.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Penn State went down their list.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: They also be landed on Matt Campbell, which we think is a good hire, but it has not worked out so far.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: This is going to be the most quintessential example of oh my god, if you have a 10-game winner, don't hire him.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: And I'm thinking the example I'm thinking of right now is Nebraska and Bo Paulini.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Nebraska, Bo Pellini was a nine, eight, ten game winner every year.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: And then they just bombed.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: They hired a couple coaches and they could not get back there.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Matt Rule, we think, even though we've already picked him to lose Indiana soundly this week, we think Matt Rule is going to bring him back, but it's been pretty much bad news exclusively since Pellini left.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: The grass did not get greener in Lincoln for a long, long time.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: And I think you're going to see that again in Happy Valley, unfortunately.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: Punt or go for it.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Penn State is the 2026 poster child for the grass isn't always greener.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Punt or go for it.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: I think Matt Campbell's going to be fine.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: He had a lot of eyeballs on him leaving Iowa State for other programs in the years leading up to his final team that he left for Penn State.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: I think James Franklin really gutted the system.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: He took he took Grunk, he took Reynolds.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, every time I watch a Hokies game, they talk about all like all that he took away from it.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: I just think Matt needs a year or two just to get re-established, get his recruiting in, get his team set up for the next year.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: For that, I I'm not as down on Penn State holistically as some people are.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: I I think this will end up working out in their favor, but it's gonna be it's gonna be a little rough for the rest of the year.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: But 24 months from now, I think Penn State's gonna be very happy with Matt Campbell.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna punt.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So I'd go for it, Mike.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: I think you're right on.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: So the scenario is like this.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: You know, when you place a bet and you're like, oh, you know what, I like a like such and such team spot, I like LSU's spot here, so let's put a buck on them to win.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: And then after you place the bet, then you realize that this game is in a rainstorm and the starting quarterback is injured, and like all this stuff comes after you've made your play.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: I think you're exactly right.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: That is what's happening in Penn State because life is full of risk, and they took the risk of getting rid of Franklin, but they didn't realize what was going to happen was that 20 players were gonna leave as well.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And so they said, We've got a great defense.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: My gosh, we've got this, we've got this player and that play, and then we've got Luke Reynolds is our great tight end, and all we need to do is get a different coach.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: And is I don't think people realize in this day and age, this new NIL day, you fire a coach, you're firing half your squad or more that's gonna go with them, and whoever pulled the string at Penn State, I don't think saw it.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: And it's so unfortunate, but that's I think that's the JV mistake that was made there.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: They should not have fired Franklin and they're they're paying for it.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: So I I go for that take.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: You know, I would I mean Arkansas, we already talked about it in the last pile, you know, Ryan Silverfield, the coach, he also he's also on the might be the on the very short leash, unfortunately, for the first year coaches.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: But like you look at around at all the first year coaches, I think most folks, generally speaking, are still very optimistic because they should be.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: It's your first year, but Matt Campbell and Ryan Silverfield feel like the two first years that are like, uh oh, this is this is really not going.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, John Summerall, I think Alex Golish at Auburn.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're not that good, but I think people like what they like what they're seeing in Deshley.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Lane Kiffin obviously can do no wrong in Baton Rouge right now.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: He's king of the castle.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Bob Chesney at UCLA, Tasha Pai, it's Cal.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Will Stein's feeling good at Kentucky.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think a lot of folks at where we are, six weeks in the year one, are feeling really good.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: And I think right now these folks at Happy Valley are just bummed because they were like Nebraska in the 2000s and 90s.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: They just expected to win 10 wins every year.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: And I think Mark is right long term.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: I think they will get back there.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: But this it might be a valley for a while.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a minute.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Their schedule stinks this year, and they're still gonna go seven and five or six and six or whatever.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: When the schedule ramps back up, is Campbell gonna have them ready?
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Is he gonna have his guys in by then?
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Is he gonna have a good QB1 by then?
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Like this really might be the long term grass isn't always greener.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: Is it gonna be a right?
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Your specific Your specific take of you know, grass is grass is not greener.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: That's true this year, but I still think Matt Campbell is a great coach, but I don't think the the good folks that are pulling the strings at Penn State realized this is gonna be a three-year deal, not gonna be an instant refill, like everybody wants Signeti, the Stignetti story to play out at their place.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Not gonna be like that.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: They Matt Campbell is a good coach.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: I appreciate what he did uh with Iowa State the last couple years, but it it's gonna take a little time and they didn't bank on that.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: I think you're right, but it does, but it's what's but it's going to challenge the assumption that we believe that Penn State is a blue blood that can recruit itself, that does have all the resources, and we think that's true.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: I think that's true.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: We think that's true, but this will test that theory because if Penn State, because Penn State in their bones, what they ultimately thought was we'll get a new coach, he'll get the resources, he'll get the guys, he'll have the fans, he'll get the buy-in, and we'll get back to competing at the Ohio State, Michigan tangent level, and hopefully beating them sometimes.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: But we're it's I don't think it's a given.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: It's it's not a given, especially now.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: So Matt Campbell is gonna have to prove that.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Because you know, say what you will about Franklin.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: I'm it's too bad it didn't work out for him at Penn State, but he had them there at the you know, not the top floor, not the penthouse, but the house is a pretty good view.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: You know, I would say the 20th floor, the hotel, the great little view of the pool or the hotel, or the villagio, but you know, not the top.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: It is working out for me.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: I can tell you that later.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, hokey fans are happy.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: All right, Mark, anything else on uh and say the future?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right, last one.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Drop this up, hit it, take it strong.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: The gap between the top three and the big ten, and then number four, is the size of the Hoover Dam.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Which is why we are going to get three and only three, and a very specific three Big Ten teams in the playoffs.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: I'm obviously talking about Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Those are the three best teams in the Big Ten.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: It's un it's indisputable at this point.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Six weeks ago, we were talking about Michigan could threaten, USC could threaten, Penn State could threaten, Iowa, UCLA, maybe could make some noise, Nebraska.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: There's a lot, there's a whole second tier of squads.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: UW, we talked a lot about Washington, Demon Williams on a QB1, Jed Fish a good coach.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: There was a whole layer of teams that were just below those big three that we everyone just assumed that at least one of them, or maybe two, would poke through.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: And the Big Ten would be represented by four or five schools.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: They have all fallen apart, right?
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: At least as far as I'm seeing.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: I don't have any faith in any of them.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: This USC Penn State game this weekend's gonna be effectively a de facto removal of one of them for good.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Michigan's already lost twice, Penn State's already lost twice.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Badly.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Iowa's got a Iowa has a tough schedule.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: UCLA's playing in Oregon, they're gonna start getting some losses.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: They're I it's hard for me to see a place where somebody in the Big Ten can jump up and be considered amongst those three.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: So hunt or go for it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Big Ten is sending three schools to the big is sending three schools to the playoffs, and only three schools, and we know what they are, but there's no chance of the fourth.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Hunter, go for it.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: Call me Dan Campbell.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: I am going for this for sure.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Easy, easy call, fourth and three yards, doesn't matter.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Going for it.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: There are there are these teams in the Big Ten that are 2-0 in the Big Ten, along with Indiana, UCLA, Nebraska, Minnesota, Golden Gophers, Wisconsin, these teams are all undefeated.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: But you're exactly right, Mike.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: There are only three teams, and exactly three teams that will go to the playoff.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: There is not a fourth team that I just listed there, including USC or Iowa that have that loss, that could possibly get in the playoff above all these SEC teams.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: Alabama, Florida, Missouri, you know, like there.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: There are three, like you said, that have the ability to compete with those SEC teams, and then there's nobody.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: So I'm going for it.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: I want to give Marco flowers.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, Iowa is ranked.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: They are the fourth best team according to the polls, number 20.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: So they are there.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: I just think the gap between 20, Iowa, and let's say pick your whoever your three it is, Oregon, Indiana, Ohio State, I don't care which one.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: The gap between Iowa and the least of them, I think, is a mountain.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: What do you got, Mark?
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, it proved itself over the weekend when Ohio State came into Iowa and won a game convincingly.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: I I want to believe Northwestern could step up and win out.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: I want to believe Wisconsin would be better.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: I don't see Minnesota doing anything.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Nebraska looks fine on paper so far, but like when you watch them play and you can just tell when they take on when they take on one of the top three, the top tier team.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: Teams, they just can't compete.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm going to go for it begrudgingly because I would I wish another team would be able to step up.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: And I can't wait till we get like 24 teams in the playoffs and a northwestern type can squeeze their way in and maybe upset somebody.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: But for this year, let's go for it.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's really Oregon, Ohio State, and Indiana.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: Well, Indiana.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: It's crazy that they're such a good team.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: You would think five years ago you would not put money down that Indiana would be as good as they are right now.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: I love I love the fact that that's happened.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: And maybe Northwestern could be that team in two years.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Just for grins, give me your top three in the Big Ten in order.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: You're talking about odds to win the win the Natty?
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: Just you who do you think are the best?
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Who do you think are the best?
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Who do you think is the best team in the Big Ten, the second and the third best?
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: What would you where would you put those three?
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Number one, Ohio State.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Number two, Oregon.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: I think Oregon Oregon is a yeah.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: So I want to say Oregon's more talented.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: I think they are a good team.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: I think that's one of the downfalls of Oregon early, was their two new coordinators, and they just seemed so off against Boise State.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: The second game was they lost to Oklahoma State.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: That's what it was.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you can come back.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, yes, Oklahoma State looks good.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: Oklahoma State's like getting better, but like I don't know.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: They really got I got a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Oregon.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: I really hope that they take off and like they are back to dominance.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: But I will take them as to Indiana I drop down to number three.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: I think I'm gonna go Indiana two, Oregon third.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I think people are just forgetting about Indiana because one, they haven't really played anybody, and they haven't really had a chance to.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: But I really like Josh Hoover.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: I really, I really like Kirk Kirk Sinetti a lot.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: I think we're gonna find out a lot.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: This is gonna be a really great proven spot because Indiana is going to Nebraska, only seven and a half point favorites.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: They should blow them out.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: I was that's what the fact I think we all prognosticated, put that in the parlay this week that we feel like that's gonna happen.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: It should happen.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: And obviously, Oregon's hosting UCLA.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Those games are both losable.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Oregon, this this put or go for could be the worst take ever five days from now when UCLA wins and Nebraska wins.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: What are we gonna do then?
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know what we do.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: And let's say Penn State, who we just talked about, the grass is always greener for 25 minutes.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: What if Penn State wins this week, too?
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: So all of this could be tossed into could be really thumbs up.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: Cancel the pod.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, shut it down.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Could be tossed into a meat grinder this week.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I mean, I think Ohio State's number one.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: I think two or three.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: I I I two A, two B.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I could take either one.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I guess the more I think about it.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: Oregon just go ahead.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: I organ's needs.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: I want to see more of a completed product out of Oregon, though.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: I want to see them in finished products, especially on defense.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: All right, so that's the emotional that's the emotional hedge of the weekend.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: All right, three winners: Penn State, UCLA, and Nebraska, all to win at a million to one.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: What does that pay?
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a big one.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Three money lines.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: All right, good stuff, folks.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: That has been your punt or go for it for week six.
