- 0:00Final segment with coach Orriama here on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show, And
- 0:04I thought we might spend this time to delve into the future a little bit
- 0:07as to the two young ladies that are coming in next season. Morgan Shelley
- 0:11and Ali Zaibel both named the Nasmith's All Americans today. Morgan on the first
- 0:16team, Ali and Aunible mentioned both McDonald's All Americans. Haven't asked you much
- 0:20about these two young ladies are there. What are their capabilities and what are
- 0:24your hopes for them when they come in here to the stores next fall.
- 0:28Well, first of all, it's it's you know, quite a quite a
- 0:33feat, you know, for Morgan, she's on the number one rated team
- 0:37in the country, high school team and they're playing for the state championship in
- 0:42California. And she kinda doesn't I should say she she defines that player that
- 0:59doesn't have a position, you know, and and plays the game of basketball.
- 1:03She just plays basketball and it doesn't matter. She's a little bit like
- 1:07Page in that regard. You know, you don't know whether she's a point
- 1:11guard, a two guard, a small forward, six to two rebounder.
- 1:17You don't know. You know, you just watch her play and she impacts
- 1:19the game in so many different ways, and so it's like recruiting a couple
- 1:26of players. When you recruit somebody like Morgan, you know, because you
- 1:30can slaughter in so many different spots. And and Ali is the typical kid
- 1:40who doesn't think they will ever miss a shot in their whole life and is
- 1:52a sneaky, phenomenally good one on one player with the ball in her hands
- 2:00that she can figure out how to get a layup or an open three about
- 2:02as good as anybody that I've seen. It's fun to watch when she's playing
- 2:14because you look at her and you go, no, she can't do that,
- 2:19And after the game you go, well, she just did, you
- 2:22know. And so it's really really fun to watch. And I think the
- 2:25two of them are are going to fit in great, and they're going to
- 2:29bring a lot of versatility and a lot of shooting to a team that I
- 2:36think next year could be pretty special. G know, I know, conference
- 2:39tournament time. I think right after it is when when the portal opens,
- 2:42do you have like a wish list or a list of what things that you
- 2:46may or may not need out of the portal, not knowing yet what a
- 2:50Leah and Niker are going to do. Yeah, I think we do.
- 2:55I mean, regardless of you know, any decisions anybody makes, and I
- 3:01don't anticipate either of them, you know, being here next year. You
- 3:08know, I think Aliyah probably going to go in the top five or six
- 3:13in the draft, you know, certainly not lower than seventh, and Nika
- 3:19is going to get drafted, and so they both I think are looking forward
- 3:23to to the future. The portal, though, is an interesting thing because
- 3:37you never know who's going to be in it. You think, hey,
- 3:43you know, really great, really great to get another six or three kid.
- 3:46You know, that would be really really really good given circumstances that have
- 3:51happened the last couple of years. You know, it's like you can never
- 3:53have you never have too many. But that would probably be the one area
- 4:00where I think we could possibly, you know, go into the portal and
- 4:05and and do that. You know, so maybe you end up with nobody
- 4:14out of the portal, or maybe you end up with someone to fill the
- 4:18Aliah Nika shoes, and you know, somewhere in between, who knows.
- 4:25You know, We're not one of those schools that's on the phone every day
- 4:28talking to people say hey, do you want you want to transfer? You
- 4:31know, so we're like in the dark a little bit about who's in,
- 4:36who's you know, who might be in and so. But once the season
- 4:43ends, and once everybody's season is over, once the conference tournaments are over,
- 4:46and then it starts to starts to pick up steam pretty quickly. Right,
- 4:49what's a schedule look like next year for non conference? I mean,
- 4:53I know some series come to an end. I would think Notre Dame in
- 4:56South Carolina still on the schedule. As he drinks out of his water bottle.
- 5:02Yeah, yeah, we're at South Carolina at Notre Dame, the Barkley
- 5:09Center. The four teams that are in US Louisville, Iowa, Tennessee,
- 5:15and Tennessee. Sounds like Louisville, though from what Jeff Toney in December,
- 5:18it's probably going to be Louisville for us. We know that we're at those
- 5:24three places. We're at North Carolina. We're playing them in Greensboro next year
- 5:30at the Coliseum, I believe so nice well, because we play them at
- 5:33Mohigan. Right so, right now, from what I understand, that's what
- 5:42I can remember, you know, Neil Askin, who's does ninety nine point
- 5:47nine percent of the work on that is in here every week, you know,
- 5:53trying to update. You know, we think we have this team lined
- 5:56up now, you know, all of a sudden they don't want to the
- 5:59other team's really interested though, So keep your eyes peeled on. Gino.
- 6:06Is always a pleasure. Thanks for doing this this year. Thanks to Sarah
- 6:10for setting this up. But it's always fun. I know you prefer the
- 6:13live stuff, but appreciate your time and best of luck this weekend. Yeah,
- 6:16no, it's been great. You know, our fans have been great,
- 6:18Our student athletes have you know, been great. The student body has
- 6:23been great. I mean the home games have been just absolutely phenomenal. And
- 6:30you know, hopefully we have two more here and try to you know,
- 6:35end this thing the right way. Indeed, Geno Ramma with us on the
- 6:39U kind of Women's Basketball Coaches Show. We'll have more of it after this
- 6:42on Learfield to stay with us,
