- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic, off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Fiorazo.
- 0:19Hello, brothers and sisters and Christ, friends, family.
- 0:23I hope you're ready to be encouraged today and maybe challenged and maybe inspired and
- 0:29informed.
- 0:30Got my brother, Claude Stoffer, Calvary Chapel of Hope, he pastors in Amityville, New
- 0:35York.
- 0:36And there's the website there, Calvarychappelofhope.org.
- 0:41And in the second half of today's podcast, we'll talk about a brand new book.
- 0:46Actually, it's new this year that he wrote The Spirit Acts.
- 0:50It's an inductive study of the book of Acts.
- 0:52Talk about the early church, the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 0:56And we'll touch on that.
- 0:58It's a big, as you can see, I mean, I don't know if you can see, there we go, I got, I'll
- 1:01turn it sideways.
- 1:02There we go.
- 1:04Look at that.
- 1:05He says it's over 800 pages, I believe him.
- 1:08So Claude, brother, good to see you.
- 1:10Thanks for your time today.
- 1:11It's good to be here, David.
- 1:13All right.
- 1:14Always wonderful to be here.
- 1:15Yeah.
- 1:16Always good to catch up with you.
- 1:17And let's catch up on your mission's trip.
- 1:18You were in Uganda before we jump into the topics today.
- 1:21Tell us about the trips and takeaways and bullet points for you.
- 1:26In mid to the late July, I went on a mission's trip to Calvary Chapel, Ashunga, which is
- 1:33in Uganda.
- 1:35The Uganda Kids Project, you can look it up online.
- 1:38It's an awesome project, a good friend of mine by the name of Bill James.
- 1:42He's a retired police officer about 12 years ago.
- 1:46He was called by the Lord to go to Uganda.
- 1:48He went there.
- 1:49He purchased a portion of property.
- 1:51And all he had was some K-Mart tents and a hole in the ground for a bathroom.
- 1:57And if you go on his website, it's really truly incredible what the Lord has done.
- 2:03The Lord has a complete, he's got 500 kids in a primary school and another 50 to 70 kids
- 2:09in a high school.
- 2:10He's got a medical clinic, a full school and everything.
- 2:13I mean, it's really, it's amazing what the Lord has done.
- 2:17And we had an incredible time, we ministered to all the young people there.
- 2:23We had a pastor's conference that we did there.
- 2:26Then we visited a couple of school, secular schools where we shared the gospel and so well
- 2:31received.
- 2:33And we also went on a safari at the end of the trip, which was kind of eye opening.
- 2:39I mean, honestly, the scariest animal on earth is a baboon.
- 2:46It was like, it was, that's a scary, it's like a little man with huge teeth.
- 2:51It's like, it was scary.
- 2:52But we had a, but it was a wonderful time.
- 2:55It was a really, really, really wonderful time.
- 2:58But what was that website again?
- 3:01You mentioned?
- 3:03Well, it's the Uganda Kids Project.
- 3:05Okay.
- 3:06If you just, if you just Google, let it do a internet search and Bill James and his wife,
- 3:13Danielle is, they have a, you know, he's, he's, he has, his own children, he's adopted
- 3:19children.
- 3:20Yes, Uganda Kids Project.
- 3:21There it is.
- 3:22I mean, you know, David, I'm very particular about any ministry that I would associate
- 3:27myself with or that I would support.
- 3:30And this is one of those ministries where, you know, without reservation, you can support
- 3:35what's going on there.
- 3:36He's such a, such a servant of the Lord.
- 3:39It's really amazing what the Lord has done there.
- 3:41So praise God.
- 3:42And so you're back.
- 3:43You've, you're probably, you've got your perspective refreshed and your face encouraged
- 3:50and, you know, after being on a trip like that, it's, it can really impact it.
- 3:54It's about a, it's about a 30 hour one-way trip.
- 3:58Wow.
- 3:59So it's about, it's about, I would say about 20, 24 hours on the plane to one with one
- 4:06stop.
- 4:07And then another six to eight hours on the road by bus.
- 4:10Oh my.
- 4:11This is a long trip.
- 4:12But once you get there and you're around all those beautiful children, it's just a wonderful,
- 4:17it's just a wonderful time.
- 4:18That's not, I can't wait to go back.
- 4:20Oh, praise God.
- 4:22Lord Bling, that'll happen.
- 4:23Well, before we get into what we want to talk about the Jeremiah 18 hope article you
- 4:30wrote earlier, I think within the last month or so.
- 4:34And it's at shepherdofhope.org, friends.
- 4:37You can check that website shepherdofhope.org.
- 4:41Before we do that, there's another post you put up and it says eternal security.
- 4:49John 1028 says, and I give them eternal life and they shall never perish.
- 4:57Neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand.
- 5:02Before we go on, Claude, just encourage our friends, family, and Christ here, because
- 5:08we're going through some really incredible, unprecedented times of trial, of upheaval,
- 5:15even in the worldwide, but in America, uncertainty and angst and division and all this nonsense
- 5:24that can kind of throw you off and maybe shake your faith a little bit.
- 5:27That's why I love to come back to the basics, eternal security, just why did you decide
- 5:33to write this one now and just tell us briefly about it?
- 5:36Well, part of the reason why I wrote it was that I am presently teaching through the book
- 5:41of Romans and just happened to be in chapter 8 and this past Sunday, I taught on verses
- 5:4626 to 30.
- 5:49And what's so important to when you go to a portion of scripture like that, there are portions
- 5:54of Romans that are very hotly debated theologically, but I think if we can never lose track of the
- 6:02practical application, and the book of Romans was written, it's really a perfect parallel
- 6:09to the times we're in now, the historical context of the book of Romans is that the church
- 6:15in Rome was under a tremendous persecution and so when we see, especially the last portion
- 6:25of the book of Romans 8, what we see is, you know, Romans 8 is about life and the spirit.
- 6:33And it verse 26 says that the spirit helps our weakness and so when we read this and we
- 6:40look at, we look at verse 29, as it says, you know, God has predestined us to be conformed
- 6:46to the likeness of his son and in the next and in verses 29 and 30, he talks about, you
- 6:51know, those he justified, he also glorified, well, you know, that if you look at that in terms
- 6:56of the persecution and the life threatening circumstances of the church in Rome, it's
- 7:02very encouraging because, you know, when you're persecuted or when someone, you know,
- 7:07maybe, maybe tries to gaslight you or to, or to just persecute your oppress you in some
- 7:13way, you might sometimes initially think, what did I do to bring this on? Am I, did I
- 7:20do something that God is allowing this to happen to me? You know, am I, have I done something
- 7:25wrong? And so when, when Paul speaks about this assurance, right, this eternal security,
- 7:34he's saying, no, you haven't done something wrong. When you're weak or when you're doubting
- 7:38or when you're going through difficulties, the Holy Spirit will be there to help you
- 7:41to pray, according to the will of the Lord, and you can be certain that the one whom God
- 7:47calls, he's just, he justifies you, he's justified, you've answered his call, you're justified
- 7:52and you will be glorified. So it's, it's, you know, there's a, our future destiny is
- 7:58certain, it's secure. And so, you know, for the times we're living in now, when there
- 8:04is so much, so much uncertainty and so much, you know, Christians are being more, more
- 8:11marginalized, they're being isolated, they're going to be targeted. And ultimately, I believe
- 8:18that there's persecution. If the Lord should carry, there's persecution, outright persecution
- 8:24in our, in our future. And if you remember back just a few years ago, with the whole COVID crisis,
- 8:31you know, whether or not it was a pandemic or a pandemic, that's up to debate. But if you
- 8:37noticed, they kept, they kept, they kept, you know, stores with where you can buy alcohol
- 8:48open, right? And they kept rolling, other stuff, but churches, they closed. That's, that's
- 8:55discriminatory, you know, that's a very subtle, might be soft persecution, but it is persecution.
- 9:01And, you know, fortunately, you had some pastors that, you know, took a stand and, and
- 9:07now, you know, there's still some pastors that are still battling in the courts over penalties,
- 9:12financial penalties, you know, so I think that when you look at Romans chapter eight in these
- 9:18verses, there's great encouragement because we're not in it alone. The Holy Spirit is there to
- 9:25help us in our times of weakness. And we can be certain and secure, eternally secure that, you
- 9:32know, like it says, like Paul says to the Philippians, right, that I am confident that he who began a
- 9:37good work in you will carry it on to completion in Christ Jesus. Amen. So pray to the Lord for that,
- 9:44you know? Amen. Thank you, Lord, for the assurance that we can have eternal life and what a great
- 9:50hope we have. I want to read Jeremiah 18 as we transition to the Jeremiah hope. And you say
- 9:58America for America, this is interesting. But right after it's the Jeremiah 18, you know, it talks
- 10:04about the potter, the potter in the clay. And God's saying, I'm sovereign cannot deal with you
- 10:10the way the potter deals with clay. And verse seven says at one moment, I might speak concerning a
- 10:19nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot, to pull down or to destroy. If that nation which I have
- 10:26spoken turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it.
- 10:36So let's dive into this cloud. This is that's a very interesting scripture when it talks about God,
- 10:43you know, can he has the power to uproot, pull down, destroy. But if the nation repents,
- 10:49if it turns from its evil, it says, I will relent. Just just share about, you know, this this topic,
- 10:56this subject. Well, well, sometimes people will quote second Chronicles 714 out of context and
- 11:06apply it right, apply it to the United States. And really, that is a verse that's, you know, was
- 11:11given to Solomon at the time of the dedication of the temple. And it really is, it really does point
- 11:19to or is relevant to specifically Israel. And so, you know, there is a principle there that I believe
- 11:25applies. But, but, you know, if we're going to be more exact in Jeremiah 18 verses 5 through 10
- 11:34in the verses that you read there, that is more applicable. And that should give us great hope
- 11:39because the Lord is very broad there. He says, any nation that I've that I've pronounced judgment
- 11:46upon, if they repent, if they turn to me and cry out to me, that, you know, I will hear them. So,
- 11:53you know, you know, see, the problem with the United States, some people like I've spoken, you know,
- 11:59I'm other people that I consult with about certain books and certain things I've written in books.
- 12:05And when I mentioned to them the possibility of revival or of, you know, like that, they a lot of
- 12:11times what will happen is that they've already given up hope. The United States is always already
- 12:17a done deal. You know, it's, it's over with. There's no chance of redemption. But then I look at a
- 12:22verse like in Jeremiah chapter 18 here. And, and I think to myself, you know, when this revival
- 12:29occur, if you look in, for instance, um, Vanessa, when you look at the southern kingdom of Judah,
- 12:35Vanessa was the most devilish, demonic king in, in all of the reign of Judah. And, uh, it was
- 12:43followed by someone by Ammon, Ammon, his son, who was not much better. And, um, and, uh, it was a
- 12:50terrible time. But then right on the heels of that, you have a great revival that comes through
- 12:55Messiah when they discovered the word of the Lord. And, um, you know, that, that's my hope for our
- 13:02country. I mean, the trouble with our country now is we're in kind of like a, there's kind of a
- 13:07spirit of Isaiah 50 verse, Isaiah 5 verse 20 where it says we're calling evil good and get evil.
- 13:15There's so much deception. We're so deceived in our country that, you know, our, this generation
- 13:23is being indoctrinated. Um, I, I'll tell you, I just, we're so confused. We don't even know
- 13:30what gender we are. And, um, it's just a terrible, terrible time to live in. Do we have it in us
- 13:38to repent? Well, we don't have it in us. Well, the Holy Spirit will help us. And, um, that's what I'm
- 13:45hoping for. I'm still holding out hope. It might be just a thread, you know, a hair's breath of hope.
- 13:51But, um, with the Lord, there's always hope for, you know, nothing is impossible with God,
- 13:57whether or not, whether or not there's an, and there are a ladder days revival, whether or not,
- 14:02there's a revival in our future. We don't, we don't, we know, we can't say one way or another,
- 14:08but we certainly can hope. Yeah, it's possible. I was just thinking that very same thing. Nothing
- 14:14is impossible with God. However, you look around and you look at the, the trajectory and you look
- 14:19at trends. Yeah. And how our decline has, and the, just the massive propaganda and delusion.
- 14:26There's a spirit of confusion and delusion out there. But I want to talk more about this friend.
- 14:30Again, it's over at shepherdofhope.org, the Jeremiah 18 hope for a miracle. Right back with
- 14:38Claude Stoffer on World View Matters. Today's show is brought to you by Harbinger's Daily.
- 14:44World news biblically understood. Stay informed at Harbinger's Daily dot com.
- 14:58If you know any ministry organization interested in sponsoring World View Matters,
- 15:04send us an email and our producer will get right back to you. World View Matters at fpeusa.org,
- 15:11our website worldviewmatters.tv. So Claude, obviously there's always hope. If we're still here,
- 15:18the church has not been removed in the scene. The Holy Spirit is still active. And as we said,
- 15:24I think before we had a little technical glitch before we started, greater is he who is in us
- 15:29than he who's in the world. And we have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love,
- 15:35and a sound mind and on and on and on. We're going to talk about the spirit acts, your book on the
- 15:40study on the book of acts in a minute. But share a little bit more about why you think
- 15:47we still can hang on to this hope, even though things don't look promising at all.
- 15:52Well, you know, if you look at the heritage of our country,
- 15:57if you go back in history and you look into early part of the 18th century, like in the early 1700s,
- 16:04where there was a great awakening in the colonies, you look at that and you look at the societal
- 16:11condition, it was of course smaller in number, but in terms of the intensity of the sin,
- 16:20it was very similar. You had jails, were overflowing, bars were act to more than capacity,
- 16:30relationships, families were breaking down, was unsafe for women to walk on the street.
- 16:36You know, there was, there was all kinds of violence. It was a horrible thing. And then what
- 16:40happened, there was, there was this incredible move of the Holy Spirit across the land and the
- 16:47colonies. You know, I'm so blessed to live and I live on Long Island, but I live in close proximity
- 16:54to that, you know, to that area, you know, to New York and to upstate New York and Pennsylvania,
- 16:59New Jersey, New England. These are an area where the Lord moved and I just think to myself that great
- 17:06heritage in some 85 verse six, it says, will you not revive us again that your people may rejoice in
- 17:17you, you know, that's another verse we can cling to because it tells us a few things. First,
- 17:22we have to turn to the Lord for revival. Second, we need to be revived again, we're human beings,
- 17:30we're like leaky vessels, we leak and we and we stray and we get, we wander from the Lord,
- 17:38but still when we come to the Lord, Lord, will you not revive us again that your that your people
- 17:43can rejoice in you, you know, I think the Lord has a greater desire for us to be revived than we do
- 17:50at that part of the problem. And it's got to start with the church, God's people, it's got to
- 17:56start with the church. Lots of Peter said, right? Judgment begins in the house of God. Yeah,
- 18:02and the Lord knows that the church, my brother, there's so there's fewer and fewer churches that
- 18:10that are not just not teaching the Bible, but you know, the church is described by Paul in
- 18:151 Timothy chapter 3 verse 15 as the ground and pillar of truth. If there's the church is the place
- 18:21that's supposed to be proclaiming the truth, the church is the place where when we look at these
- 18:26world events is the place where you're supposed to make sense of it based on the word. Unfortunately,
- 18:33much of the church, the woke, the woke version of the quote church, I don't know that they
- 18:39even a church anymore, you know, they're looking to the world and looking at worldly trends to see,
- 18:45to try to be relevant with the world. That's not church. The church needs to take the lead,
- 18:51we need to be proclaimers of the truth. Yeah, you've got to put those churches in air quotes,
- 18:56church, because it's just not a true biblical church. The seekers sensitive churches trying to
- 19:01be like the world to attract the world and water down the gospel, water down the word of God.
- 19:06I want to go back to something really quick, Claude, before we talk about your book briefly.
- 19:10Second Chronicle 714, we want to clarify when you said, I believe we take that out of context,
- 19:16I think you and I both agree on that and we make it about America. It's not about America,
- 19:20it was specific to Israel. However, you said principles, the principles of humbling ourselves
- 19:28and praying to God, seeking His face and turning from our wicked ways. That's something we can
- 19:36all do. That's something that church can do. Christians, individuals can do and then he says,
- 19:41I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. Your comment, final comment on that
- 19:45before we move on. Well, if you take second Chronicle 714 and then you take the passage in Jeremiah
- 19:52chapter 18 verses 5 through 10 and you hold them next to each other, there are a lot of similarities
- 19:59there. It involves repentance and turning to the Lord humbly. While second Chronicle 714 is
- 20:09particularly relevant for Israel, there is a principle there that we see carried over and broadly
- 20:16offered to all nations in Jeremiah chapter 18 verses 5 through 10. While it's not correct to refer to
- 20:26second Chronicle 714 in regards to America, there is still a principle there. Some people get a
- 20:34little bit bent out of shape by that and say, you can't refer to that at all. I would agree with
- 20:42them that it's aimed at Israel, but I would disagree with them in a sense that I believe there's
- 20:48a principle there that we seek affirmed in Jeremiah 18. So I want to talk about one more thing,
- 20:54sorry, before we get to your vote because there's a great quote in your article by Martha Gellhorn
- 21:00and people often say with pride, I'm not interested in politics, right? That means they don't
- 21:04vote or whatever. They may as well say, I'm not interested in my standard of living, my health,
- 21:10my job, my rights, my freedoms, my future, or any future. If we mean to keep any control over
- 21:16our world and lives, we must be interested in politics and quote. Now let's clarify, we don't
- 21:24need to be overwhelmed by politics or what's going on, but be engaged as Christians. So there's
- 21:30so much more friends. Go to shepherdofhope.org and look at the Jeremiah 18 hope for America. So
- 21:36let's let's bring up the big book. There it is, the Jeremiah 18 hope. So you wrote this earlier
- 21:42this year, the book of Acts, phenomenal book. And I verse three has me right there when Luke
- 21:51the great doctor and journalist says many convincing proofs in Acts 1 verse 3. Go ahead and share.
- 22:01I know you're going to nutshell it here. We're down to five minutes, but the power of the Holy
- 22:05Spirit and why it's so important to study this book, the book of Acts. Well,
- 22:12the reason this, the book of Acts is one of my favorite books of scripture because
- 22:16it does have these many convincing proofs in it, but these many convincing proofs when we look
- 22:21at the book of Acts, they're laid out for us patterns or aspects of our walk with the Lord that
- 22:27are relevant to our day and will be relevant as long as the Lord carries. And it's so important for
- 22:33as a church, but also individually as Christians to make sure that first of all that we've been
- 22:40born again, given spiritual life by the indwelling Holy Spirit. But secondly, that we have been
- 22:46empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve him. And I believe, you know, the baptism with the Holy
- 22:51Spirit when the Holy Spirit comes upon a person like he did at Pentecost, he gifts those people
- 22:59with certain spiritual gifts. I connect spiritual gifting with the baptism with the Holy Spirit.
- 23:06He gives us these spiritual gifts to serve in the church. You know, David, we know each other,
- 23:13we're getting to know each other much better, but what before I was a Christian speaking in front
- 23:18of people was, is at this zero point on my list of things that I'd like to do. I tell you,
- 23:25I would I would play sick with my mother. So I didn't have to go to school and do oral reports,
- 23:31things like that. But you know, when when I accepted Christ as my savior, I gave him myself
- 23:38completely and I said, Lord, whatever you want to do. And when he empowered me, he gave me this
- 23:42spiritual gift of a pastor teacher and then gave me opportunities to use it and serve in the church
- 23:48with it. And that is just one of the, you know, that confirms to me the reality of the Lord because
- 23:54he so drastically changed me. You know, if anyone is in Christ, they're a new creation. All the old
- 23:59things passed away. Everything has become new and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, he enables
- 24:05you and equips you to serve in the body of Christ in a way that is way beyond your own personal
- 24:13human resources. And so that's the message of the book of Acts. He takes fishermen, he takes
- 24:20tax collectors, he takes these, you know, people that the world would never look to do such a work.
- 24:27And then he just impacts the entire world. And it's still being impacted by the move of the Holy
- 24:32Spirit. And just the Apostle Paul's conversion and how God prepped that man with his background,
- 24:39where he was born, where he lived, his studies and as a Pharisee and then his conversion and his
- 24:46ability to travel throughout the, all the area they're going on in the missionary journeys and
- 24:52Luke and others, you know, documenting everything. It's, it is phenomenal. But I just happened to
- 24:57open up to this page in your book. It's about halfway through. And I, I opened it up to,
- 25:02have it all memorized. Oh, you don't, I opened it up to, um, second Peter one, 19 through 21,
- 25:09because the book of Acts is the, the Acts of the Holy Spirit. And Peter, Peter says, we have the
- 25:15prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place
- 25:21until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts knowing this first, the no prophecy
- 25:27of scripture is any, of any private interpretation. Prophecy never came by the will of man, but by
- 25:35holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. Another translation says as they were
- 25:41carried along by the Holy Spirit and isn't that this study on Acts? Isn't that what the book of
- 25:48Acts is about? The Holy Spirit carrying the telling Paul where to go, where not to go, warning
- 25:53and then empowering. Go ahead, your final thoughts here. Well, my final thoughts are there's a place
- 25:59in the book of Acts where it talks about the the wind blowing in the sails of the ship that
- 26:07Paul was on to move it, right? And the wording that's used there is the same thing. It helps us
- 26:13to understand what the, what the fail noostis or the, the inspiration of God is with his scripture
