- Keenan: Okay, so welcome back to Rue and Real with Keenan. I'm Keenan, and we are on day six of our nine days to believe. today's quote, you know, sorry, before I get to that, let's recap a little bit. The last several days we've talked about curiosity, belief, failure, obedience, and redefining what success looks like. Today ⁓ We're going to talk about something that everybody wants. Freedom. Ted Lasso says this the truth will set you free. Before adding that the truth, truth often makes us uncomfortable first. And isn't that exactly how life works? The conversation you've been avoiding, the addiction you've been hiding, the grief you've been suppressing, the anxiety you've been pretending doesn't Exist. The truth is uncomfortable. But it's also where healing begins. So can I be honest with y'all? There have been times in my life where really I really looked like I had it together. I was working, I was involved in church, I was serving, I was leading, I was studying, I was helping people, I was a hero. But on the inside, I was so exhausted. I kept telling myself, just push a little bit harder. I do this, ⁓ I get this job, once I pass the exam, once I graduate, once I finish this class, once I get license, once I pay this, once I pay that. The truth, there was always ⁓ once. ⁓ Eventually, I had to admit something. I couldn't outwork my need for rest, and I couldn't outperform my need for God's grace. The truth wasn't comfortable, but it was freeing. As counselors, we know something that surprises, that often surprises people. You cannot heal what you refuse to acknowledge. One of the greatest barriers to healing is avoidance. Avoiding difficult emotions actually provide temporary relief. But over time, days, months, years, ⁓ decades, avoidance increases anxiety. It strengthens fear, ⁓ reinforces shame. And this is why exposure therapy works. Healing begins when we slowly and safely face what we've been avoiding. The same principle applies emotionally and spiritually. So in the book of in John, chapter eight, verse thirty-one through thirty-two, Jesus says this: if you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set. You're free. Notice something important here. Jesus isn't talking about information, he's talking about transformation. The truth isn't just something we learn, it's something we follow. Later in John's gospel, Jesus says this: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Freedom comes from walking. With him, not from pretending everything is okay. So, one of the hardest truths we have to accept is this: we all have blind spots. do, you do, everyone listening does, every therapist, doctor, pastor, they all have blind spots. Every parent does too. Parents, teachers, if you are a human adult, you have a blind spot. And growth begins when we're humble enough to ask ourselves this am I missing? If we look at Psalms 139, it contains one of the bravest prayers in scripture. Search me, O Lord, ⁓ God, and know my heart. See if there's any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. That prayer right there that David did requires courage because sometimes God Answers it. So one of the most powerful moments in counseling happens when someone finally says, I've never told anyone this before. Sometimes those words are followed by tears. In fact, almost always they're followed by relief. Secrets thrive in the darkness. Healing begins when the truth is brought into light. This is why shame says hide. And then grace says come. So here's your challenge. Today I want you to spend ten quiet minutes with God. No distractions, no phones, no agenda. Simply. Pray, Lord, what truth have I been avoiding? Then listen, see what God says. Write down whatever comes to your mind. Don't defend yourself. Don't explain it away. bring it before God. And remember, conviction leads us towards Christ. Condemnation drives us away from Him. Know the difference. Tomorrow we're going to talk about one my favorite Ted Lasso lessons. If you're comfortable, you're probably doing it wrong. We'll explore why God often grow grows us in places we never choose for ourselves. Until then, don't fear the truth because God, who knows everything about you, you completely. And that's the safest place ⁓ the world to be. I'm Keenan. This has been Read Rooted and Real with Keenan, and I'll see y'all tomorrow.
