Norfolk Best, known as “Fuzzy,” is back in court for a retrial after his 1993 death sentence for the brutal 1991 murders of elderly couple Gertrude and Leslie Baldwin was overturned. The original conviction relied on a thumbprint and DNA evidence — but years later, six boxes of withheld evidence from Whiteville City Hall revealed critical flaws, including no blood found at Best’s known locations and early doubts about the thumbprint’s validity.
