Lucas: Oh, that happens. What were you trying to say? Luna: Well, I knew how to say 'banana' and 'orange' from our earlier episode, but I didn't know how to ask the price or say how many I wanted. Lucas: Perfect. That's exactly what we'll cover today: buying fruit at the market. So let's start with the most important question: 'How much is it?' Lucas: In Amharic, you say 'ስንት ነው?' — say it with me: ስንት ነው? Luna: ስንት ነው? Lucas: Good! ስንት ነው? means 'how much is it?' You can point at something and ask this. Luna: So if I see a pile of oranges, I can say 'ስንት ነው?' and the vendor will tell me the price. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's say you want to buy two bananas. You already know 'ሙዝ' is banana. How do you say 'I want'? Luna: እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Right. And 'two' is 'ሁለት'. So: 'ሁለት ሙዝ እፈልጋለሁ' — 'I want two bananas.' Try it. Luna: ሁለት ሙዝ እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Excellent. Notice the order: number, fruit, then 'እፈልጋለሁ'. So 'ሁለት ሙዝ እፈልጋለሁ'. Luna: ሁለት ሙዝ እፈልጋለሁ. That's easy. And if I want three? Lucas: You learned 'ሶስት' in our numbers episode. So 'ሶስት ብርቱካን እፈልጋለሁ' — I want three oranges. Luna: ሶስት ብርቱካን እፈልጋለሁ. Lucas: Perfect. Now, don't forget the magic word: 'እባክህ' — please. You can add it at the end. Luna: Oh, like 'ሁለት ሙዝ እፈልጋለሁ, እባክህ'? Lucas: Exactly. Always polite. And after you get your fruit, you say 'አመሰግናለሁ' — thank you. Luna: አመሰግናለሁ. I remember that from the basics. Lucas: Great. So let's put it all together in a little scene. You're at the market, you see bananas. Lucas: You ask: 'ስንት ነው?' The vendor says it's five birr. Then you say: 'ሁለት ሙዝ እፈልጋለሁ, እባክህ.'
