- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Ready for another episode. Lucas: Last time we talked about ear and neck. Today, we're going to learn how to talk about pain and sickness. Luna: Oh, that's useful. Like when you don't feel well. Lucas: Exactly. So the verb 'to be sick' or 'to hurt' is መታመም. Luna: መታመም. Lucas: Good. Now, if you say 'my head hurts', you say ራሴ ይታመማል. Luna: ራሴ ይታመማል. Lucas: Perfect. ራሴ means 'my head', and ይታመማል means 'hurts'. Luna: So it's like 'head hurts'. Lucas: Right. And if your stomach hurts, you say ሆዴ ይታመማል. Luna: ሆዴ ይታመማል. Lucas: Great. ሆዴ is 'my stomach'. Luna: And what about asking someone what hurts? Lucas: You can ask ምን ያመታል? That means 'what hurts?' Luna: ምን ያመታል? Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice a little scene. Luna, you're feeling sick. Luna: Okay. ሆዴ ይታመማል. Lucas: Oh no! That's no good. So I ask, ምን ያመታል? Luna: I just said it's my stomach! But let's pretend. Umm... ራሴ ይታመማል. Lucas: Ah, your head hurts. Let's try another body part from before: እግሬ ይታመማል. Luna: እግሬ ይታመማል. That's 'my foot hurts'. Lucas: You've got it. So now you can talk about pain. Let's run through all the phrases one more time. Luna: Sure. መታመም... ራሴ ይታመማል... ሆዴ ይታመማል... ምን ያመታል?... እግሬ ይታመማል. Lucas: Wonderful. You sound like a pro. Now, if you ever need to use these, you'll be ready. Luna: Hopefully not too often, but good to know. Lucas: That's all for today. Thanks for learning with Fexingo. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time! Luna: Bye bye!
