- 0:11Well, good afternoon. Do you have your Bibles with
- 0:14you? This afternoon meet me in the
- 0:16book is second. Timothy please in chapter 3,
- 0:252nd, Timothy chapter 3. And if you're there just bow
- 0:37your head with me as we pray, Lord.
- 0:39Again we thank you for bringing us into this new year.
- 0:44Lord, we begin this new year together on the Lord's day
- 0:48because we dedicate this year to you.
- 0:51You are our life. There is no other purpose.
- 0:54There is no other ambition that can compare to our desire to
- 0:58glorify you on the Earth. Lord, we ask that in this
- 1:02moment, as we hunger for righteousness, that you would
- 1:05fill us and how you would speak through the written word for it
- 1:09is your voice Lord with all sincerity in desperation.
- 1:13We pray that this message would be free from confusion that it
- 1:17would build up that it would Adorn us with godliness that it
- 1:21would help us worship the Christ.
- 1:25We asked, oh, Lord, that this message would not be delivered
- 1:27in mere words. The Lord in the power of the
- 1:30Holy Spirit. Lord, we know that we cannot
- 1:34purchase that power. We cannot fabricate it.
- 1:37We can't replicate. It has to come from heaven and
- 1:41we know Lord that you purchased the gift of the holy spirit for
- 1:43us through the blood. And so we just ask, oh, God,
- 1:47because we do not depend on the flesh.
- 1:48Today, we are eager to receive your touch.
- 1:52We are desperate to receive your conviction and your comfort.
- 1:57Lord. You are well aware, who in this
- 2:00place is not born of the spirit. You know, who needs to be born
- 2:04again? Would you would you show them
- 2:07that they need it? That they need your salvation
- 2:11Lord, you are fully aware, who in this place is hiding pain
- 2:15with a smile. You know, who in this place may
- 2:20be singing with words, but their hearts are dry.
- 2:25Lord do a Reviving work in this place.
- 2:28We ask you in Jesus name that you would be exalted, we ask you
- 2:33o. God that you would be the theme
- 2:35of our conversation as a result of this morning.
- 2:38Lord, have your way reign in our hearts and be be blessed by what
- 2:45you hear and Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- 2:51Second Timothy 3 beginning in verse 1.
- 2:54But understand this, that in the last days, there will come times
- 2:59of difficulty for people. Will be lovers of self.
- 3:03Lovers of money proud, arrogant, abusive disobedient to their
- 3:07parents ungrateful, Unholy heartless, unappeasable
- 3:11slanderous without self-control brutal.
- 3:13Not loving good treacherous. Reckless swollen with conceit
- 3:17lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God having the
- 3:21appearance of godliness. But denying its power of Avoid
- 3:24such people. You and I over the past few
- 3:29meetings paused in this series. In the book of 2nd Timothy to
- 3:32rightfully commemorate, the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 3:37We took some time to worship God, in light of the events
- 3:41surrounding his first Advent, when Christ entered into this
- 3:44world and it deserves for us to pause and to reflect on.
- 3:48And so we stopped and we turned our attention to that truth.
- 3:52But now we give our Focus back not to the events that led to
- 3:57the first coming. But to the events that will lead
- 4:00to his second coming. To his return, to the return of
- 4:05the reigning Christ, Jesus. And I'm sure, maybe you have
- 4:09thought that we've spent quite some time on these things and
- 4:15you're probably wondering, you said that we were going to touch
- 4:17on these things and we're still here.
- 4:18You've repeated the same text a few times.
- 4:20So why is it that we are taking so much time to dissect this
- 4:25list of carnal characteristics. That will pervade in society as
- 4:30it is now, Many reasons, may I provide one among many.
- 4:36Here's one that as you and I understand.
- 4:40The contrast between us and the world made encourage us, not not
- 4:46discouraged, as but encouraged us to shine.
- 4:49All the brighter in light of the gloominess that will Cloud this
- 4:55generation and future Generations.
- 4:57In other words as you and I hear these things, it should motivate
- 5:00us to be the exact opposite by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 5:04May, I remind you today of your identity and Christ you are the
- 5:08salt of the earth. You and I are a light, a city on
- 5:13a hill. and you and I are seeing these things not so that we can
- 5:18get some kind of Prophetic Insight, it's pretty
- 5:23straightforward but that as you and I continue to live in this
- 5:27world, we would look at things like this say Lord, if this is
- 5:30true, if the world to become more passionate about Sin, if
- 5:33they're going to go from bad to worse than make me, holy or more
- 5:36effective, give me the grace to be able to stand out at the wind
- 5:41people to your kingdom. You and I from time to time are
- 5:46also going to hear how Christ Jesus when he comes to this
- 5:49world, that's going to be riddled with.
- 5:50Such things is going to clean up house, and he's going to rule
- 5:55and Reign and righteousness will cover this Earth as well as his
- 6:00glory as the sea does. And so we come here and we read
- 6:05these things. Again, hoping that you'll be
- 6:07energized, hoping that you will you will sense and excitement.
- 6:13That God, perhaps may use me in a world covered with this filth.
- 6:20Does anything stand out to you from this list?
- 6:21I'm sure if we had a conversation about it, you'd
- 6:23say, isn't it amazing? That Paul said, this is an
- 6:25amazing that people will increase in that and we have now
- 6:28arrived to a certain portion that I believe is worthy to stop
- 6:31on and to consider, I don't want you to be afraid.
- 6:35We're not going to stop on every single point but there are some
- 6:37things that just meditate on and we're going to meditate on where
- 6:41we left off. Paul says concerning the last
- 6:44days that one of the things that will go from bad to worse is
- 6:47that children? We'll be more disobedient.
- 6:53To their parents. I find that fascinating.
- 6:58You know why I find it fascinating?
- 7:00Because when you look at all these other evils there, there
- 7:04is no trouble to see how they have broader application.
- 7:07There are many ways, somebody can be a lover of self, there
- 7:10are many ways, somebody can be proud.
- 7:12There are many ways, somebody can be a lover of money, but
- 7:15this sin is specific. It's very narrow.
- 7:21It's highlighted, children will be disobedient to their parents.
- 7:30And I believe, one reason why it is mentioned is because God is
- 7:35trying to hint to us. That this is a great crime in
- 7:40his sight. God is trying to show us his
- 7:44heart that this is a significant disturbance to him and that
- 7:49might challenge you that might disturb you because I'm sure you
- 7:53can think of much more atrocious evils that do more damage than a
- 7:58certain behavioral pattern that is common among children.
- 8:00Anyway, is this really a big deal to God?
- 8:05Is this really worthy of mentioning, is this a flag for
- 8:09us to consider when we meditate on the final days before the
- 8:13return of Christ? It is. if you understand the
- 8:18mind of God, if you understand the value that he places on the
- 8:24home, if you understand his design for the family, if you
- 8:30understand his purpose in children, And US, bearing
- 8:37children, you see? When Paul mentions that there
- 8:42will be a greater Disobedience to parents, he's talking much
- 8:47more than just about an unfortunate attitude.
- 8:52That makes the job of parents a little bit more difficult.
- 8:55No. He's speaking about the decay in
- 9:00the most foundational institution that God has
- 9:04ordained in order for a civilization to thrive.
- 9:09We are not speaking about just a bad temper or a terrible twos.
- 9:15No, we're talking about here that there will be a troubling
- 9:18resistance to the ordained Authority that God has placed in
- 9:23the home on a level. That it will corrupt the
- 9:27culture. How?
- 9:31very simple, because if you have people more specifically
- 9:36children, Who will not will not abide by the authority of a
- 9:42father and a mother then what makes you think that they're
- 9:45going to accept any other system of authority in the Spheres of
- 9:50society? That's the problem.
- 9:54The problem is this, that if there is Disobedience at the
- 9:56foundational level, what will it look like on the secondary ones?
- 10:02If there is corruption and chaos and Havoc within the home?
- 10:06What is going to happen in the schools?
- 10:08What's going to happen at work? What's going to happen on the
- 10:09streets? we must see that Paul is
- 10:14speaking about here that be generation of the family when he
- 10:17says That there will be Disobedience to parents and this
- 10:22is particularly angering to God, why?
- 10:26Because of Malachi 215 we learned that one of the purposes
- 10:29in which God brings a man and a woman together is that they
- 10:32would produce what Offspring no Godly offspring.
- 10:38Death from generation to generation.
- 10:41God, what have those who reflect the image of his son as a
- 10:44witness to the world? And when you come to this text,
- 10:47we realize that this assaults this attacks, the very DNA of
- 10:55the purpose of God. And having children and raising
- 10:59our Offspring. But I want to tell you that as
- 11:02Paul prophesized this, he's not saying that this is just going
- 11:05to happen out of nowhere. He's not just saying that this
- 11:08is just gonna spring up and all you're gonna have is now as a
- 11:11band of disobedient. Kids running around.
- 11:14No, no. There are things that will lead
- 11:17to this. This is the fruit of something
- 11:19else. This is the result.
- 11:20This is the consequence. I believe I've many things for
- 11:23the sake of time today, we're not going to consider all the
- 11:25things. But may I present to you, at
- 11:26least Couple of options of why it is that in the days to come.
- 11:31We're going to see greater Rebels.
- 11:35We're going to see greater greater Rebels, and some of them
- 11:38won't be able to drive yet. One of the things that I believe
- 11:44will contribute to this, This dysfunction number one is that
- 11:50there will be a growing neglect of Parental discipleship, there
- 11:55will be a growing neglect of Parental discipleship.
- 11:59Although I don't have kids. I don't have to do something
- 12:05else before I get there. I don't have children.
- 12:08I hope that my lack of experience will not bring
- 12:11hindrance to your hearing. I praise God today that my my
- 12:16job as a as a servant in the capacity of a minister is not to
- 12:20tell you about my experience though.
- 12:23It may help and I'm sure there's a level of authority that comes
- 12:25from experience. I'm not against that but my job
- 12:28today is used to tell you what God Said.
- 12:32My task today is just to tell you what God says about the
- 12:34matter and I trust that it is clear enough and it is
- 12:37straightforward enough to provide instruction.
- 12:40Though, the vessel may not be in the season of the subject.
- 12:45With that being said, would you turn in the Old Testament with
- 12:48me to the book of First Kings? and chapter 1 beginning in verse
- 12:525, First Kings chapter 1, beginning in verse 5, There will
- 13:03be a growing neglect of Parental discipleship.
- 13:07And here is an example for us to consider First Kings 15.
- 13:12We read now adonijah, The son of hagatha.
- 13:16Exalted himself saying I will be king.
- 13:22And he prepared for himself chariots and Horsemen and fifty
- 13:26men to run before him adonijah. Keep that name in mind, we read
- 13:32of this man early in the book of First Kings, right after the
- 13:35first few verses in, which we learn about the failing body.
- 13:41And the old age of King David himself.
- 13:43Yes, that man after God's heart, and we are told now early in
- 13:48this book about one of his sons named adonijah and he is one of
- 13:52our many sons in fact, he's not just one among many sons, he is
- 13:56one among many sons among many wives, More specifically.
- 14:00He is the fourth son to his fourth wife.
- 14:04I don't know what got into David said.
- 14:05But if you read in a portion of scripture that with every wife,
- 14:08he had a child, and what's interesting is that this man
- 14:14after God's heart, Really failed in his understanding of God's
- 14:19will for marriage. God's Will and design for the
- 14:24home. And what we read here in this
- 14:28verse is that one of his sons adonijah is ready to secure the
- 14:33throne knowing full. Well that that Throne belongs to
- 14:38his brother Solomon, the successor and we read here that
- 14:42he exalted himself that he was puffed up with pride unashamedly
- 14:48and he begins to create a problem with in not just the
- 14:52home, but in the Kingdom of Israel itself, Now, I believe
- 14:56there's a lesson here just based on that understanding, David's
- 14:58background and the behavior of many of his children.
- 15:02You see, here's the principal when you and I fail to trust in
- 15:06God's design and its blueprint for relationships, especially
- 15:11marriage, which includes the roles of marriage.
- 15:15And we failed to understand the design and the blueprint for the
- 15:19home, including children, what you and I will do is inherit
- 15:24pain, confusion frustration, when we place our own ideas of
- 15:31how we should Express and experience relationships, and we
- 15:35don't trust God's wisdom about the standard of who a wife
- 15:38should be or a husband. Then you inherit to a certain
- 15:43degree, what David will inherit and that is much, much pain that
- 15:48could have been avoided. If you would just believe God to
- 15:50begin with, if you just trusted God, throughout the process
- 15:54throughout the journey. And so, the fruit of what we're
- 15:57about to discover in part comes from, David's failure to
- 16:02understand how a family should even start.
- 16:06But is that really the main reason?
- 16:09Some would say yes and if you ever had wondered why it is that
- 16:13God allows polygamy in the Bible realize that God never
- 16:16permitted. It and realize that, with every
- 16:19example of polygamy in the Bible, you never see a
- 16:23successful home. Just because God is silent about
- 16:28the issue. Does it mean that he is for it?
- 16:31Just go to his will and you will see his mind on the matter.
- 16:36But that's not the main reason polygamy is not the issue.
- 16:38It contributed to it, it fueled it but it's what we read in the
- 16:42next verse that shows us what happened for adonijah to be this
- 16:47way verse 6. His father had never at any
- 16:53time. Displeased him say Or asking why
- 16:58have you done thus? And so he was also a very
- 17:02handsome man, just like Dad and he was born next after Absalom.
- 17:06Do you see it? Do you see it?
- 17:11Why was adonijah willfully? Fighting against God's will for
- 17:16the throne. Why was this man?
- 17:19So puffed up, why was this man Gathering other men to come
- 17:22against his own dad? It's not because of adonijah
- 17:28though, he did have a will but in great part the holy spirit
- 17:32is, showing us that he was deficient in his character
- 17:35because of the lack of investment from his father.
- 17:40The holy spirit is showing us this the holy spirit.
- 17:42It's so clear. Why mention this right after
- 17:45telling us about the Revolt that he's about to start?
- 17:50There is a deficiency there, a deficiency.
- 17:53So, great, that we are told that David never even questioned at
- 17:59and I just Behavior. You might wonder why it is, was
- 18:03David absent from his life was was David so busy with the
- 18:07kingdom. I mean, I can tell you that if
- 18:09you have several wives and each of them have a few children,
- 18:12you're not going to be as present.
- 18:15Or always David here in a trap throughout, his fatherhood the
- 18:22Trap of, In The Name of Love, to smother your children with all
- 18:27these gifts and a reservation to correct.
- 18:30And to disciple them, lest you think that they will Rebel as a
- 18:35result. So I better not step on their
- 18:37toes and just, and just from time to time, maybe say a little
- 18:40bit of a top but nothing significant enough to open their
- 18:45eyes. Their sin David may have
- 18:49provided in many ways for his children and for adonijah, but
- 18:53he failed to give to him the very thing that would shape his
- 18:58character, especially in the developmental years of his life.
- 19:03Where was the discipleship? Proverbs 22:15 tells us Folly
- 19:10Folly is bound up in the heart of a child but the rod of
- 19:15discipline drives it far from him.
- 19:19Folly is bound up in the heart of a child.
- 19:21That's very insightful, isn't it?
- 19:24This may disappoint you, but our children don't enter into this
- 19:28world. With the Book of Proverbs wired
- 19:30in their system. Our children don't come with a
- 19:33heart filled with discretion and knowledge and only manifests as
- 19:37they develop their communication skills.
- 19:39Know that bundle of joy, that bundle of cuteness, the roles on
- 19:44their arms and their legs, the cute smile, all of that is
- 19:50covering up a heart, ready to Rebel.
- 19:55Not your child, of course, right. because of Adam, Because
- 20:01that is the nature that we all inherited and look at the wisdom
- 20:05of God, hears, the wisdom of God that as this gift is given to a
- 20:11family. God designed foolishness to be
- 20:16chiseled from them. Through the means of loving
- 20:20discipline from a father and a mother who has been entrusted
- 20:22with them. God designed it that way.
- 20:26You see there's an attack on the home for greater things than
- 20:29just attacking the home, this generational consequences and as
- 20:35though God is saying, I'm going to provide you a gift that will
- 20:38reflect my image and has the potential to be a vessel of
- 20:41righteousness. But because of Adam, they will
- 20:45come to you with a disposition to disobey me to disobey you,
- 20:49and this will be others and left to themselves.
- 20:54They will like Adonai just seek to be their own rulers.
- 20:59They were like adonijah say, I want to be king.
- 21:04I want to be Queen. But it is your duty to direct
- 21:09them. It is your duty to guide them in
- 21:11a way that would lead them ultimately, to my son, who can,
- 21:16who can be the only one who ultimately changes them.
- 21:21David didn't do this at all. The role of a parent is a great
- 21:26responsibility and just watching parents.
- 21:30Just traveling with their kids alone, I can feel the way that
- 21:33can. I could see that I can see the
- 21:36difficulty but one of the responsibilities that is so
- 21:39great is to guide them to progressively, be delivered from
- 21:43Adams nature, although we cannot save them.
- 21:47There is a restraining power that God has given us through
- 21:50the principles of his word. And our ultimate hope is that
- 21:52they would meet Christ. Maybe change from the inside
- 21:57out. David was a Man Who Loved god
- 22:02with his heart. The Bible tells us that, but I'm
- 22:04going to say something that might shock you.
- 22:05Although he loved god with his heart, he indirectly hated his
- 22:08son. Not directly hated his son.
- 22:14indirectly hated his son because in the same Book of Proverbs we
- 22:17read in Chapter 13 Verse 24, whoever spares his Rod hates his
- 22:24son, Whoever spares the rod hates his son but he who loves
- 22:30him is diligent to discipline him.
- 22:36What does this mean? It means this that he refuses to
- 22:40lovingly teach and worn and exhort and even at the
- 22:44appropriate age provides some kind of discipline by the rod
- 22:51according to God the person who neglects this.
- 22:55Hates their child. No matter how much you say, you
- 22:59love them, no matter how much you buy stuff for them, no
- 23:01matter how much you feel about them.
- 23:03If this is absent according to God, it is hatred and his sight,
- 23:07he say, how can that be? Well let me ask you this if a
- 23:10child was riddled with disease. Was infected with a disease and
- 23:16the Cure the remedy has been placed in the hands of the
- 23:19parent, but they refuse to give it to their child.
- 23:21Would you not think that they hate their child?
- 23:26And yet there is the sin of the Soul.
- 23:29There's a sickness of the soul and the medicine has been
- 23:33provided through the means of parents, who understand the word
- 23:37of God and to apply the wisdom of the spirit and who operate
- 23:40with the fruit of the spirit. In order to see a greater
- 23:43Deliverance. ' for them to be people who would represent the
- 23:50Prince of Peace. I'm not here today to provide
- 23:55you lessons on how to best discipline your children.
- 23:57That's Another time and there are people more qualified to
- 24:02give that advice in the I believe.
- 24:04But what I am saying is this David missed?
- 24:07It completely, he completely missed it and the Bible is true
- 24:13and showing us the reality of his failure.
- 24:15I love the Bible because it does not hide the failures of men and
- 24:19women. And what David failed to show
- 24:23his son that I ja God does not fail to show his children.
- 24:28Because my Bible and your Bible says in Hebrews 12 verse 6 for
- 24:33the Lord disciplines, the one he loves.
- 24:39How do you know? Jesus, love you?
- 24:40Well for God. So loved the world that He Sent
- 24:42His only begotten son. Wonderful.
- 24:44Have you reached the point in your Christian Life where you
- 24:46say? I know God loves me because he
- 24:47disciplines me. Many Christians limit God's love
- 24:52to what he provides for them to the blessings.
- 24:54The new car, the great health. That's that's one expression.
- 24:57But can I ask you this? Do you believe God loves you
- 25:00through his discipline? Because the Bible says he loves
- 25:05those whom he disciplines. You know what that means about
- 25:09God. Unlike David he is not willing
- 25:12to allow you to remain a state in a state of apathy in
- 25:16disobedience. He will not, he loves you too
- 25:21much as a father to allow you to remain in a condition that will
- 25:26destroy you others. And ultimately, Taint his glory,
- 25:30he loves you too much. And so what will he do?
- 25:35He will disturb you lovingly, he will send piercing conviction.
- 25:40He will even have to wound you in order to sanctify you and he
- 25:45will allow you all trust me, he will allow you to stay in remain
- 25:49in the season of hardship so that it can have a cleansing
- 25:52work on your soul. Where am I getting this from?
- 25:54This is my own idea, this is not the only place where it tells us
- 25:57on more than one occasion. It tells Listen, our Bibles that
- 26:00he chastises, Those whom he loves, and he told it to a whole
- 26:04church at one point, a whole church that was plagued with
- 26:08lukewarmness, and they were happy in that condition.
- 26:12They thought were Rich were prosperous, we have Prestige, we
- 26:18have pedigree that there were dead inside and God from Heaven,
- 26:22as a heavenly father says, I cannot in my love.
- 26:25Allow you to stay that way. So he sends a word of rebuke and
- 26:28he says, are you You ready for me to spit you out of my mouth?
- 26:33And then he clarifies by saying Those whom I rebuke Those whom I
- 26:41discipline. Are those whom I love read in
- 26:46Revelation 3:19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline.
- 26:55And so he was ready to shake them.
- 26:57He was ready to do something spectacular.
- 27:01That might have hurt that might have been painful, but what does
- 27:04Hebrews tell us, just listen to it.
- 27:06And don't don't turn there. You don't have to, in Hebrews 12
- 27:0810. Speaking about Earthly fathers
- 27:11for they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to
- 27:15them. But he being God disciplines us
- 27:19for our good. That we may share his holiness.
- 27:24That we may share his holiness. It's always for our good.
- 27:31David failed to show that to his son and had an eye job because
- 27:36of that was not just trouble for David and his other Sons.
- 27:42He brought trouble to Israel. And surely this will contribute
- 27:48to the increased chaos in our culture, as David's, negligence
- 27:54will be common in those days. I think it's appropriate to stop
- 28:00here for a moment to speak about how what Paul says this
- 28:03Disobedience among children will flourish and manifest.
- 28:07Here's one of the ways among men, eight, We're seeing it
- 28:11already. Are we not do we not perceive it
- 28:14that the cultural continual assault on motherhood. and the
- 28:20growing trend of a lack of examples from Godly men, Who
- 28:26will lay down their lives for their wives and their children.
- 28:30A couple of those things together and we have a recipe
- 28:34for disaster. And you come to this book and
- 28:40you see how countercultural it is on every issue including the
- 28:46estimation and the value of the home.
- 28:48Can I show you one place in the book of Titus, Titus?
- 28:522:4 we read when God instructs, not the pastor, not the Sunday
- 28:56School teachers, when he's speaking to the mothers, he
- 28:59speaking, to the older woman of the church and he says there in
- 29:04Titus, 2:4 concerning the older woman and how they should relate
- 29:07with the younger. Married woman.
- 29:09And what do we read in Titus? 2:4 and so train.
- 29:15Train, the young woman to love their husbands and children.
- 29:22Train them. To be self-controlled pure
- 29:26working at home. And if I read this, if I posted
- 29:30this on social media, if I read this on my secular job, they
- 29:33would whip me out of the place. Working at home, kind.
- 29:40And submissive to their own husband's.
- 29:42That the word of God may not be reviled.
- 29:46Older women in the church, listen to this Arc command not
- 29:50suggested Paul, Paul's not giving suggestions for the local
- 29:53church commanding that older woman within the church be
- 29:56intentional. And actually speaking to those
- 29:59younger woman who have been married, who are freshly married
- 30:04and what had a love, their husband and their children.
- 30:06I read this and I thought to myself, is this really
- 30:10emphasizing the local church. Among many other things.
- 30:13How much is this really emphasized?
- 30:17Do older, women really seek out younger woman?
- 30:21And to provide the wisdom from their own experience and the
- 30:23word of God do younger woman in their humility and hunger seek
- 30:27out the wisdom of older women to know how they can be more
- 30:32prepared and more Adorn for this wonderful role.
- 30:35As a mother as a wife, It goes to show that God cherishes he
- 30:41sees the incomparable value of the health of the home because I
- 30:47want to tell you today that a holy church is built by holy
- 30:50homes. it's not individualistic here when I just coming here and
- 30:56just no, no, this is it integrates in life in the living
- 31:00room in the kitchen, And God intends for the church, to be a
- 31:06help to the home. And it's a circular thing, where
- 31:11then the home comes in and blesses, the church, So he says,
- 31:15among other things, older woman, train train the younger ones to
- 31:20love their husbands and their children.
- 31:22And you know what, the message of the world is it, it's the
- 31:25opposite. Because what the world is
- 31:28saying, don't get married at all.
- 31:32And trained to love your children.
- 31:33No, no. Children are burden and there's
- 31:36such a burden that you have the right to kill them in the womb
- 31:42if they're inconvenient. And if you are married.
- 31:47Well. Okay, let's figure this out.
- 31:48Since you did get married, if you are married trained to love
- 31:53them with, loyalty, know if you feel like your heart fell out of
- 31:58love. I follow your heart even if it
- 32:01leads you away from your spouse. And this is why as we are
- 32:09understanding, second Timothy 3, when I just dumping data on us
- 32:12this afternoon, we're trying to understand as this is going to
- 32:15become a growing Trend in the homes.
- 32:17And the narratives of the world, we must as a church, strengthen
- 32:21our understanding disciple and trained so that we would have
- 32:25healthy. Holy homes, stand in contrast to
- 32:29this wicked world. Growing negligence of Parental
- 32:35discipleship. Oh, we can talk about it for the
- 32:37next few Sundays. Just the mention is enough, I
- 32:41believe But there will be a growing secondly influence from
- 32:46corrupt surroundings, not just a growing negligence of Parental
- 32:51discipleship, but a growing influence from corrupt
- 32:53surroundings. I want us to look at another son
- 32:56of David and if you turn to 2nd Samuel 13 will see another
- 33:01insight to what Paul prophesied about children in the last days.
- 33:06we looked at adonijah, but now we're going to look at amnion
- 33:12I'm ninh. Emmalin's issue is not the same
- 33:15as adonijah has issue. Adonijah had a craving for the
- 33:21throne. And then had a lust for a woman.
- 33:28And this lust was not, was not normal, because he was, he was
- 33:34wanting his half-sister Tamar. And this desire was so intense.
- 33:41It was eating up to such a degree that he actually became
- 33:44physically ill. Physically ill and wanting this
- 33:49woman that he knew he could not have.
- 33:52And in the same way you and I heard the main cause to add an
- 33:56eye, just dangerous and rebellious Behavior, you and I
- 34:00are now going to see the key factor that pushed, and then
- 34:05over the edge. What was the Tipping Point for
- 34:08this man? To make this temptation become a
- 34:11reality. Because unfortunately, when you
- 34:14read this chapter, you will see that am ninh and then responded
- 34:19to this desire in ended up raping his half-sister.
- 34:24What was the reason? It's in verse 3. but amnion had
- 34:31a friend. N had a friend whose name was
- 34:38jonadab the son of shamya, David's, brother.
- 34:42And jonadab was a very crafty man.
- 34:49But Hamlin, had a friend, you see?
- 34:54There was a man in an ins life. that was not a faithful friend,
- 35:00you could almost say that this was a man and surroundings And
- 35:04then did not have a friend that can look him in the eyes because
- 35:08she discovered. Why was that a man's head was
- 35:11low and his shoulders Shrugged jonadab ask him, what's going on
- 35:15with you man? Every time I see you you looked
- 35:17sad, you look depressed, you barely eat your food and and
- 35:22then expresses his longings his fantasies with Tamar and jonadab
- 35:27failed to be a faithful friend because a true friend would have
- 35:30looked him in the eyes and says, what are you thinking, man?
- 35:34Have you lost your mind? You're going to give in to this
- 35:39do you realize what's going to happen to you?
- 35:40You realize, what's going to happen to her?
- 35:41Do you realize what's going to happen to the glory of God?
- 35:46He failed to rebuke him. He failed to warn him.
- 35:48He failed to admonish him and he didn't just fail to do that.
- 35:52He actually did the opposite, he encouraged him.
- 35:57See you have two types of friends in life.
- 35:59You have friends who will help you fight your Temptation and
- 36:02you have friends who will help you feel your temptation?
- 36:07And I've seen many Christians who can't grow because like em
- 36:10and they have a friend. They have a friend and they're
- 36:14not just talking about people in the Gen Z category.
- 36:16I'm talking about people who are baby boomers They can't.
- 36:21They haven't grown in Christ in 20 years all because they had a
- 36:24friend. And this man had a friend and he
- 36:32fueled his temptation, he gave him a strategy, he gave him a
- 36:35plan to know how to satisfy this list.
- 36:39You know, what's incredible here?
- 36:40I look at Jonah table and I see a glimpse into the world of the
- 36:43last days, because as we learned, a few weeks ago, the
- 36:46spirit informs us that in the final hour, in those moments
- 36:50leading up to Christ's return people.
- 36:52It will be a cultural norm. People will be lovers of self.
- 36:58And we heard it. They will love pleasure more
- 37:00than they will love God. Even if that pleasure offends
- 37:05God, even if it's trips people from their rights, people be
- 37:09love of pleasure, more than God. Unlike Jonah dad, the
- 37:14suggestions of the culture, will only get louder and louder and
- 37:19louder and what should be rightly recognized as perverted
- 37:23will actually be deemed as normal.
- 37:27That's what jonadab did. She see and then realize that he
- 37:31couldn't go for this because it was abnormal and it was through
- 37:34the Whispers of Jonah that I don't know.
- 37:37This is fine. You can actually satisfy this
- 37:41lies is that not what the culture is Whispering to our
- 37:43children? If you feel it, do it, if you
- 37:47think it, you are it. If you want it, you can have it.
- 37:54Such a truth may cause parents this afternoon to leave this
- 37:58place more discouraged and encourage more filled with
- 38:00anxiety, than with hope. And I'm not here to give this
- 38:04message to cause that. No, I'm here to give you a
- 38:07message of Hope because, although, although, this will be
- 38:12more and more prevalent, we serve a God who is powerful, and
- 38:18he is so powerful and so faithful that he is supplied,
- 38:21the church he is supplied, his Spirit, he is supplied, the word
- 38:25of God to ensure that our children would be so strong.
- 38:30That no cultural tide can overpower them.
- 38:33We have to believe that. It's a Perfect Cue for a song is
- 38:37enough. I know I think we should keep
- 38:42it. I don't know anything.
- 38:43God sounds more emotional, doesn't it?
- 38:49Live sermon gem. We don't have to edit it later.
- 38:54You and I have to understand something.
- 38:57God has given us so much. To prepare our children.
- 39:02I want to give you hope today and you might think well yeah
- 39:04well well I'm then was the son of a man who was known as a
- 39:09person after God's Own Heart. Any made this horrific decision?
- 39:15And I'm here to tell you that, I completely understand.
- 39:17I'm realistic in that people have grown up with Godly
- 39:20Parents, can make foolish decisions.
- 39:23But I'm also here to tell you that when you have a God-fearing
- 39:26father, a God-fearing mother and makes it much more difficult for
- 39:31their children to dishonor Christ.
- 39:35There is a restraining power. In every almost every
- 39:40institution. In fact, in every institution
- 39:43that God has ordained in the home with the government.
- 39:47With the church. And that is why our culture is
- 39:50attacking every single one of those institutions.
- 39:54Because it loosens the restraining power that God has
- 39:59built through these institutions.
- 40:03May, I remind you again, if you are not convinced What kind of a
- 40:09father David was? How do you think David responded
- 40:12when he heard about and then sin against against Tamar?
- 40:17You don't have to guess go down to verse 21 of chapter 13.
- 40:23When King David heard of all these things.
- 40:26He was very angry rightfully so but that's all that we heard,
- 40:32that's all that we see. He doesn't go to protect Tamar,
- 40:39he doesn't go to provide healing and provide Comfort.
- 40:43It he doesn't do anything of the sort and he never.
- 40:47He never Warns or disciplines or chastises end?
- 40:53makes you wonder if he was hesitant to do that because he
- 40:56was reminded of his own sin with Bathsheba Makes you wonder that.
- 41:03He felt this conviction. How can I go and tell my son?
- 41:10What he did was wrong when I gave in to my own list.
- 41:17I want to tell you today that although there will be a
- 41:21corrupting culture that will try to reach the ears of our
- 41:24children as it as it did for am ninh.
- 41:29You have no reason to be afraid. I want to show you a negative
- 41:32response as we close a negative response to a person who cared
- 41:38for a child and the positive response to what you.
- 41:42And I should do, when there is a threat directed to our own
- 41:46children. We're still in Samuel.
- 41:49Go to 2nd Samuel, chapter 4 and verse 4.
- 41:55I want you to see here, how fear the fear of a, of a person who
- 42:01has been given the responsibility to take care of a
- 42:04child can be more harmful than beneficial.
- 42:07I want you to see what can happen when panic and anxiety
- 42:11overtakes the heart of a good-hearted person who wants to
- 42:15really see their child Thrive and grow and be protected.
- 42:20Jonathan the son of Saul had a son who was crippled in his
- 42:26feet. He was five years old.
- 42:29When the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel and
- 42:34his nurse, the nurse who's been given the responsibility to take
- 42:37care of him, took him up and fled and as she fled in her
- 42:41haste, he fell down and became lame.
- 42:45And his name was the fetish. Here's this tender little boy.
- 42:52He was the son of Jonathan, the grandson of Saul and we learned
- 42:57that that Saul and Jonathan died in battle and the News reaches
- 43:01the kingdom and all-out panic breaks out.
- 43:06And this nurse was unnamed begins to fear for mephibosheth
- 43:11because she realizes that they're coming after the Royal
- 43:14Line. Surely, he must be next.
- 43:18And so in her genuine care and a genuine love, she Scoops up.
- 43:22Mephibosheth and she flees, but we're told she flees in haste
- 43:26and we're not told the details. But at one point as she runs
- 43:30runs for, not just for her life, but for his life, she drops him.
- 43:34And those tender little legs. That vulnerable neck.
- 43:39That spine was affected. I don't know if she fell over
- 43:41something. I don't know if it was a
- 43:42balcony. I don't know if she crushed him
- 43:44when she fell with him. I don't know what it was but it
- 43:47was enough damage to make him paralyzed for the rest of his
- 43:50life. And what's good news about my
- 43:55fetish f? Is that we later see that David
- 43:58brings him in and allows him to sit at the table, the Royal
- 44:01table and to Feast with him because he promised he promised
- 44:04Jonathan that I will take care of your descendants.
- 44:06I will not do them harm and it's a picture of the Gospel.
- 44:10It's a picture of the Gospel that you and I because of our
- 44:13first parents are crippled or crippled, but he who is the son
- 44:19of David brings us to his table. Although you and I have been
- 44:23fractured by Adam's sin, you and I are invited to Feast with
- 44:27Christ. What we see here is quite
- 44:31amazing, though, because there's a practical implication that
- 44:34this woman, this woman who is almost like a mother figure to
- 44:38the feather shot was overcome by fear to such a point that she
- 44:43acted in haste and she lost Mobility.
- 44:45She lost focus and it caused more harm.
- 44:52Than it did blessing. I think, I think a lot of
- 44:56parents can fall into that trap. Think a lot of parents out of
- 45:00great anxiety. Begin to operate more in the
- 45:03flesh than in the spirit and they Implement certain
- 45:07principles and disciplines that ultimately hurt their children
- 45:11more than actually help them flourish and grow.
- 45:16And so, although you and I look into the Horizon of our world
- 45:19and we hear about threats that will probably come to our
- 45:23children that are, in fact, not even, it's not even.
- 45:25Solid more are targeted towards our children, may, we not erupt
- 45:30which such fear to the point where we hurt more than we help.
- 45:36Because here is the example to follow and it's not an example
- 45:39that I'm pulling out as an example.
- 45:40It's an example that God gives it's incredible.
- 45:43That when you go to that Hall of faith and Hebrews 11 we think of
- 45:47men like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob Samuel.
- 45:52Moses. But tucked in all of that.
- 45:57Are Moses parents. God, highlighted the faith.
- 46:04Of a mother and a father that we just Brush by in the book of
- 46:09Exodus. And I want you to leave with
- 46:11this truth, as we look out and we see that it's only getting
- 46:15lumiar and darker to not in haste, not in flesh, respond to
- 46:21our children, Without faith in God, would you turn there in
- 46:26Hebrews 11 23 as we close together?
- 46:38I want to tell you today, that there is no reason to fear the
- 46:41dangers in our world, to the point, where we lose our faith
- 46:46in God's Sovereign will, and Sovereign wisdom.
- 46:50Here's the faith of Moses parents.
- 46:53By faith, Moses. When he was born, was hidden for
- 46:58three months by his parents because they saw that the child
- 47:03was beautiful and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
- 47:12Put yourself in their sandals for a moment.
- 47:16Imagine a law that passes in America.
- 47:20That every Christian male that is born must be killed.
- 47:27And there are surveillance and there are people knocking at
- 47:30your door. And there are people wanting to
- 47:34see if you have a baby boy in your house.
- 47:40That was the edict. I don't think many young couples
- 47:44would be encouraged to have babies.
- 47:47I have a feeling that many people would delay on obeying,
- 47:51be fruitful and multiply but this couple, they weren't
- 47:58afraid. They weren't afraid you think.
- 48:01I don't know if I agree with that because that seems unwise.
- 48:04If that's the case I'm going to hold off and having a child, I'm
- 48:07going to wait until this passes by, they were not afraid because
- 48:12God said something and they trusted it be fruitful and
- 48:14multiply we're going to be fruitful and multiply now being
- 48:18Fearless is not the same as being foolish because what do
- 48:21you read there that they still hit him for three months?
- 48:25They still protected him, they didn't expose him to Danger, see
- 48:29it's not Faith to say well God's in control so let's just throw
- 48:33our kids into the lions den. Know There's wisdom that he
- 48:37should be applied still, but there's also a faith that God is
- 48:40in control, even over Kings and their edicts even over the media
- 48:45and the, the songs and all those things.
- 48:47And the growing corruption in the land, god is Sovereign even
- 48:51over that because he has an intent with your family and just
- 48:56like Moses. I don't know if when they saw
- 48:58that he was beautiful. They saw that.
- 49:00There was a destiny that he was to fulfill many people debate.
- 49:03What they meant by this? What?
- 49:05It that they saw, was it? Because he was a beautiful baby
- 49:08like all. He's beautiful.
- 49:09So we better keep him. I doubt that is what it is.
- 49:12But perhaps it is that they saw that there was a special calling
- 49:15on Moses. And they wanted to protect him.
- 49:20And this faith in God was so great for their child.
- 49:25That these slaves, these immigrants in a different land.
- 49:30Could stand up to the king because they knew that their God
- 49:33was on their side and they knew that their child has been
- 49:36dedicated to the true and living God.
- 49:40They were not afraid because they were not afraid.
- 49:46You read later on in the same, the same text that when Moses
- 49:50grew up, actually. Let's turn there.
- 49:53Look what happened to Moses as a result of the faith of his
- 49:57parents. Verse 27.
- 50:01By faith. He left, Egypt.
- 50:04Not being afraid. Not being afraid of the anger of
- 50:10the king. Where did he learn that from Mom
- 50:12and Dad? His faith.
- 50:18His fearlessness. Was something that he received
- 50:22from to Fearless parents. And he can trust in God because
- 50:26Mom and Dad trusted in God. and I want to tell you today, That
- 50:33like, these parents over their child or your child.
- 50:35May not be a Moses. The child may not be a preacher.
- 50:41Believe that God's design God's intent for your children is that
- 50:45they would be used by him. It be used by him.
- 50:49Today, as we start this New Year, we're going to dedicate a
- 50:54portion of our time to pray for our families to pray for our
- 50:57children. And if your child is Wayward
- 51:01tonight, this afternoon, if your child is not what you thought,
- 51:04he or she would be though, you have prayed invested so much.
- 51:09I can't stop but think of Samson that guy caused a lot of
- 51:13Heartache to his mom and dad and they were Godly. you know, what
- 51:17happened to Samson, his whole life was a train wreck, but at
- 51:22the final moments, he turned to God.
- 51:27Without Eyes without hair humbled and stripped of dignity.
- 51:34He was included in the Hall of faith.
- 51:38I want you to leave here. Encouraged today?
- 51:40Yes, it's going to get worse out there with with families and
- 51:43children, but that means you and I have a chance to disciple a
- 51:48generation that will shine all the brighter for the glory of
- 51:51God. God is with you.
- 51:53He hears you, he sees you and he loves your children more than
- 51:57you love them. You keep praying for them, you
- 52:01keep loving them. You keep having fun with them.
- 52:04Don't be afraid to sit with them and to talk to them about Sin.
- 52:06The world is teaching them about Sin.
- 52:10If we're not going to disciple them, if we're not going to have
- 52:12those honest conversations, the world, gladly will.
- 52:16And let's not just believe I'm ending it here.
- 52:18Let's not just believe that our children will be protected.
- 52:21That's one benefit, that's one side of the coin.
- 52:23Let's believe that they will go back and Pierce.
- 52:25The Darkness as they are filled with the holy spirit of God.
- 52:30Believe God for your children as Moses believed God.
- 52:39As his parents believe, God for him.
- 52:42No. Need to fear this new year.
- 52:44God is with us. Let's pray.
- 52:55Let's pray. Shall we pray?
- 52:57I can I have somebody on the keys.
- 52:58Please. Just to kind of drowned out.
- 53:01Any thoughts or distractions? Thank you Laurie.
- 53:03Here's what we're going to do. If you're with your wife, if
- 53:07you're with your husband, pray for your children in this
- 53:09moment. If you are siblings, if you feel
- 53:13like you want, if your parents are here, go and pray with your
- 53:15parents. Let's be intentional about this.
- 53:18Okay. We're not going to hear
- 53:19something like this and then just wave it off.
- 53:21Let's be intentional about this. If this is the, if this is the
- 53:24prophetic word for the generations leading to Christ,
- 53:27let's dedicate our hearts. All the more to Christ.
- 53:29Let's pray for our family. So you have the right now at
- 53:32this moment to get up and move closer to your parents, to your
- 53:35spouse wherever, Baby and let's just spend time to pray for
- 53:38them. Okay.
- 53:39Shake It Off. I know it's not the routine
- 53:41service but it's okay. Let's let the spirit of God lead
- 53:43us. So just In This Moment now, pray
- 53:46with your spouse, pray for the Salvation of your daughter, pray
- 53:50for the Salvation of your son. Pray that God would use them.
- 53:54Pray that God would protect them.
