- 0:00Welcome back to the All Figured Out Podcast.
- 0:03My name is Andre Gabbar and I am the host of the show that has
- 0:07just hit it's 100th episode. I, I can't even believe it.
- 0:17I can't believe that three years ago, in my first trimester of
- 0:22pregnancy with my son, my second baby, I got up the courage to do
- 0:29this. And that not only was I not one
- 0:32of those podcasts that launches in a big splashy way, I'm not
- 0:38naming names Megan Merkel, but that I launched slow, steady,
- 0:47and I freaking continued with it.
- 0:50I, I'm really proud and I don't say that very often, but I'm
- 0:55really proud of that. I'm really proud of this show.
- 0:57But more than anything, I am so proud of the listeners, you all
- 1:04for what you have been up to. The messages that I get, I mean,
- 1:09it's kind of an anonymous platform, going to be honest to
- 1:11see the numbers come in and know people listen but have no idea
- 1:15who's out there. But every so often I get a
- 1:17beautiful message from a listener talking about something
- 1:21that they've implemented and something that's just changed
- 1:25the game, even in a small way or in some cases a really big way
- 1:30for them. And that fuels this fire.
- 1:33I think you can probably tell by this point if you've been
- 1:36listening for a bit or if you're new here.
- 1:39I do tend to wear my heart on my sleeve and I freaking love this
- 1:43podcast and I love all of you. And I want to say such a
- 1:47heartfelt thank you for listening.
- 1:49If you were listening to this episode, I have a feeling you've
- 1:52you've listened to a few. And if that is the case, I just
- 1:55want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
- 1:57This has been an incredible experience, a huge learning
- 2:02curve and man, what a what a chapter of like self discovery
- 2:08learning a new craft, a craft that feels really good, but is
- 2:13is new. It's a new platform and like I
- 2:17always say, we are just getting started.
- 2:19So thank you again. Now, it has definitely taken me
- 2:26a while to sit down to record this particular episode.
- 2:32I sat down before this to reflect on what it has taken to
- 2:38produce these last 100 episodes and first I reflected on why it
- 2:45feels so hard to prepare for this.
- 2:46Like I was getting kind of meta. It was like, why does 100 feel
- 2:50like such a big deal? And I've come to realize that it
- 2:54is so much easier for me to turn the mic around and interview
- 2:59someone. I get to sink into someone's
- 3:01story like a really good movie to fuel my never ending
- 3:05curiosity for learning about people and their stories and
- 3:10what got them where they are and how they're making things work
- 3:14in this wild, fun, exhausting, soul fulfilling era of being a
- 3:20parent. And I get to dive into their
- 3:22expertise in areas that I know either little or nothing about.
- 3:28But my own stuff, my own story, I I find boring.
- 3:34When someone asks me about my weekend, I'm going to be honest,
- 3:38I think, well, that's not really that fun.
- 3:41I've, I've already lived it and I took some photos and now I'm
- 3:44thinking about what's next. And I'm thinking about learning
- 3:48something I don't know. And you know what I want to
- 3:52learn more about. And I'm just like, I'm future,
- 3:55future focused. I live in the present.
- 3:57And then I'm like, OK, that was fun.
- 3:58What's next? But yeah, to look back and
- 4:02reflect, it's hard to talk about my own journey versus someone
- 4:06else's journey. Again, that's boring to me.
- 4:10But like I would tell my clients, it is so important to
- 4:14honor the past and it's even more important to pause to
- 4:18reflect and freaking celebrate because 100 episodes is a big
- 4:25deal. And it's a really big deal to
- 4:27me. Because to me, it proves to
- 4:31myself that I can be consistent, that I can follow my boundless
- 4:36Dr. energy and passion for lifelong learning.
- 4:40And in so many ways I can be inconsistent.
- 4:43If I'm being honest. As a woman, I have a cycle that
- 4:46fluctuates a ton. As a mother, I can be super
- 4:50wired 1 moment dropping in real like so hot in the living room
- 4:55and a dance party and then the second bedtime is done I can
- 4:58turn into such a couch potato to the point where I have to tell
- 5:02my husband like I am no longer available for communication.
- 5:07And it's not about being constantly on one note, 1 even
- 5:11tone or one vibe. Like I'm not striving to be just
- 5:15the same all the time. But for me, it's about being
- 5:18consistent with my purpose and my integrity.
- 5:20And that's also something I talk to a lot of clients about.
- 5:24I have always chastised myself for being inconsistent.
- 5:29I'm getting real real here. OK, so I personally love to
- 5:34start, but I don't love the completion.
- 5:38I love the process of making new friends, but I'm not necessarily
- 5:42the friend who will message you every single day to ask what you
- 5:45want for lunch. But when we catch up a few times
- 5:48a year, you're going to get all of me.
- 5:51And when I worked in the corporate world, the
- 5:55expectations of showing up to work and get the job done was
- 5:59enough pressure to keep me consistent.
- 6:01It was like this forced consistency and I'm also a
- 6:05people pleaser, so I would do a good job so that I wouldn't
- 6:08disappoint you. And now as an entrepreneur for
- 6:12over three years, which is crazy, being full time in my
- 6:15business for over three years, I was really nervous about how I
- 6:20would maintain consistency. I'm going to be honest, that was
- 6:23my biggest fear. I built a business with coaching
- 6:26clients who need me to be consistent with them, to be a
- 6:31steady Eddie and a journey that can be really naturally leaving
- 6:36them feeling uneasy. Whether that's job searching
- 6:38after a layoff or navigating the process of heading on to a
- 6:42parental leave. Like those are those are things
- 6:44that my clients need me to be consistent with.
- 6:47And I've done a great job of that.
- 6:50I've had moments where I've had to really like reregulate
- 6:52myself, but the my why and my purpose around supporting
- 6:57parents really fuels that. And then there is this podcast.
- 7:02This is something that, like I said, I birthed when I was in my
- 7:06first trimester of pregnancy with my second child.
- 7:09I had a year and a half year old baby when I launched the
- 7:13podcast. A husband, a new business, the
- 7:16baby that was in my belly, and I had such a wild desire to
- 7:19support parents in an even bigger way.
- 7:23I have the privilege of getting to know some of the world's best
- 7:29experts in the personal and professional development space,
- 7:32many of whom are parents themselves who know how to apply
- 7:36their expertise to this population of high performing
- 7:40but yet really gentle parents. And I think that was, that was
- 7:45the thing for me where I was like, wow, I have access to
- 7:49incredible experts just based on my network and the people that
- 7:53I've been meeting and collaborating with.
- 7:54And then I have access to these like insane high performing
- 7:59parents as well. And it just felt like I, yeah,
- 8:04I've, I've like, I've got to bring all this together and
- 8:07amplify it in a bigger way. And to be honest, like I've
- 8:11always said, I have such an appetite for learning that
- 8:15there's a lot of things that I wanted to learn about.
- 8:17So selfishly, I wanted to just figure things out alongside you.
- 8:21And that's how the podcast was born.
- 8:24And there is still so much that I haven't fully figured out.
- 8:28And I honestly never hope to arrive.
- 8:30I don't want to figure everything out in the world
- 8:32because I feel like that's just so boring.
- 8:34But the one thing that I have figured out after 35 years of
- 8:38life is that the only thing we all need to be quote UN quote
- 8:43consistent with is being true to yourself.
- 8:46I know that sounds cheesy, but like I'm talking your values,
- 8:49I'm talking your dreams, I'm talking your passions, your
- 8:52boundaries, your vision for a beautiful life with your family,
- 8:56whatever shape that takes for you and your family, that is
- 9:01yours and yours alone. And your messy pursuit of that
- 9:05is the only measure of consistency that I think you
- 9:11really need to think about. Like when you're talking about
- 9:16consistency, who cares how many times you go to the gym if you
- 9:20go to the gym on the exact same day, if you eat the right thing
- 9:23and you eat your vegetables consistently every single day?
- 9:25Like that stuff, that's habits and that's fine and that gets
- 9:30you. But really, like, the only thing
- 9:32that really matters that I have found out in my short 35 years
- 9:36of life is that if you were being true to you, you're being
- 9:39true to what you actually care about.
- 9:43You are working towards building and reiterating and creating a
- 9:49life that you love and that you're obsessed with.
- 9:52Like that's, that's it. That's the stuff.
- 9:56That's the stuff. And that is what I have been
- 9:58learning from our guests along the way.
- 10:01So if you are new here, scroll on back.
- 10:04I swear I'm not one of those podcasters that's like, oh,
- 10:07don't go to the first few episodes.
- 10:08Go to the first few episodes. They're amazing.
- 10:10There's some incredible experts that I have on.
- 10:13There's a couple solo episodes. You can hear my story, hear my
- 10:17husband's story. Like there's some, there's some
- 10:19gold, and I hope it supports you in pursuing your passions and
- 10:27building the life that you're absolutely obsessed with.
- 10:31So I today am celebrating this manifestation of consistently
- 10:39doing something that I love with my whole heart.
- 10:43Over the past 100 episodes and nearly three years of recording,
- 10:49this show has reached 40 countries, had nearly 10,000
- 10:54downloads in total. Featured conversations with
- 10:57parents, entrepreneurs, doctors, coaches, authors, and everyday
- 11:02people who were brave enough to share their stories.
- 11:04We have covered everything from career pivots, resumes, and
- 11:09leadership development to parenting, mental health, sleep,
- 11:12money, and relationships. But the thing that I am most
- 11:16proud to brag about is the fact that, like I said earlier, I
- 11:21continue to get messages from listeners who have had a spark
- 11:24of inspiration that has changed the game for them.
- 11:28From inspiring really big career pivots to people realizing the
- 11:33value in a Sunday calendar ritual, which my husband and I
- 11:37do every week, this podcast has grown from a tiny idea I had
- 11:42while being pregnant and exhausted.
- 11:45And it has grown into this library that I love of stories,
- 11:49strategies, and encouragement that I really hope you and all
- 11:53your parent friends will come back to again and again and
- 11:56again. I have listened to episodes and
- 12:00you better believe we are just getting started.
- 12:03So from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for
- 12:06listening. And whether you have let me know
- 12:09you're a listener or not, I don't even care because it's not
- 12:12about me. Never has been.
- 12:15It is all about you. So know that I am cheering you
- 12:19on. I am cheering me on for 100
- 12:22episodes. And to wrap this love letter to
- 12:26you, I want to bring you an impromptu interview that I did
- 12:29with my 4 year old daughter a few weeks ago when the house was
- 12:32quiet and I just so happened to have my podcasting gear all set
- 12:37up. And so my guest today is Addie
- 12:40Barr. She is an accomplished scooter.
- 12:43She is an artist whose medium of choice is glitter tape and
- 12:47printer paper. She hails from North Vancouver,
- 12:50BC, where she lives with her parents and her little brother
- 12:52with whom she calls Bro Bro or hey, whenever he's taking
- 12:57something of hers that she does not want him to take.
- 13:00So without further ado, I bring you Addie Bar Welcome back to
- 13:06the All Figured Out podcast. I'm your host, Andrea Barr, and
- 13:09I'm joined by my daughter. Addie.
- 13:14Buddy, welcome to the All Figured Out podcast.
- 13:16It is great to have you here. Hmm.
- 13:20Now, Adeline, how old are you at the time of this recording?
- 13:25I'm four years old. Well, and what is your favorite
- 13:29thing to do as a four year old? Hmm, play with my brother.
- 13:35What's your brother's name? Brody.
- 13:37What do you guys like to play? Do you like to play games and
- 13:44they like to play? Games nice.
- 13:46Sometimes burning knocks on my tower and I don't like that.
- 13:51What do you do when he knocks over your tower?
- 13:53How do you get through that? That sounds really hard.
- 13:55To say stop but and then I don't play anymore.
- 14:01OHP dear, is that hard? Yeah.
- 14:04Yeah. Now Addie, we have been talking
- 14:06a lot about kindness recently and this very special superpower
- 14:11that you have called. Kindness.
- 14:14Superpower. Can you tell me a little bit
- 14:17about how you use it? I use it as I try to get my
- 14:22friends together cause they wanna be separate but I have to
- 14:25get them together cause they don't want them together.
- 14:30OHP and how do you do that? I try to like get one and they
- 14:35get 2. OHP and and What does kindness
- 14:39mean to you? What does kindness mean?
- 14:41It means like you, you help one another.
- 14:45That sounds so beautiful. What is it like to be kind?
- 14:50It's become like you try to get one person to to to talk to them
- 14:56and talk to another person to get them back together.
- 15:00Nice, that sounds really special.
- 15:03How do you use kindness with your little brother?
- 15:05And I try to use kindness, but every time I try to use
- 15:10kindness, birdies walks away sometimes.
- 15:17How does he show you kindness? And he doesn't.
- 15:21He doesn't share toys with me. That's not kind.
- 15:27How about when you hurt yourself?
- 15:29What does he usually say to you? Are you OK?
- 15:33Are you OK? Are you?
- 15:34OK, Yeah. Now, recently you had a little a
- 15:40little fall on your bicycle. Do you wanna tell us a little
- 15:43bit about what happened? Yeah, I was bike riding and then
- 15:46I fell face 1st and then I saw my hand and I got this.
- 15:52Hey, a little gap. OHS and how did you get through
- 15:57that? I had to go to the dentist and
- 16:00they had to pull their teeth out and then they they had froze my
- 16:05mouth full little bit. And did you say something funny
- 16:08when you were in the dentist chair?
- 16:09Yeah, let's get out of here. Oh my goodness, you are such a
- 16:16brave and resilient little girl. I love you.
- 16:21I love you too. That wasn't a question.
- 16:25I just wanted to say I love you. Is there anything else that you
- 16:28want to share on the podcast? Play.
- 16:32Hmm. Let What's something that you
- 16:36wanna tell all the kids of the world?
- 16:38Is there anything that you want to tell them?
- 16:41I really I have two best friends but now I have 3 it's I love
- 16:48Sofia Mia. All ears.
- 16:55Oh, we're showing your undies. Well, thank you so much for
- 16:59joining me on the podcast. I asked this to all my guests.
- 17:03Addie, what is something that you're still trying to figure
- 17:06out? I don't know what they say.
- 17:10Is there anything that you've been working on practicing
- 17:12recently? Ohhh I'm trying to make a
- 17:15artwork. Any particular artwork?
- 17:20Nature And now I'm trying to make ocean, but I'm not making
- 17:23an ocean this year. OK, well we wish you luck on the
- 17:28ocean artwork and I hope you'll come back on again to tell us
- 17:32updates on your artwork and kindness.
- 17:37Bye bye. Bye bye.
