Latest / The Mark Driscoll Show / Pastor Mark's Thoughts On The Third Assassination Attempt On President Donald Trump
Transcript
- 0:01Well, just got home, preach tonight, went out to dinner with
- 0:04some dear people, didn't look at my phone, jumped in the truck to
- 0:08head home and realize 1/3 assassination attempt on a
- 0:14President Donald Trump. And just a few pastoral
- 0:18observations #1 the world has changed.
- 0:25The world is no longer a place where there is civil discourse,
- 0:30disagreement, and dialogue. When you demonize a human being
- 0:35and sort of neglect and overlook the fact that he's got a family,
- 0:41he's got people who do love and care about him, but you turn
- 0:43them into sort of the personification or the
- 0:46embodiment of evil. We even had some on the right
- 0:50who professed to be Christians, sort of eluding that maybe he's
- 0:52the Antichrist this week. When, when you get that kind of
- 0:56vilification and demonization of a human being, it's no longer
- 1:00just that you need to disagree with them.
- 1:02It becomes moral to force them or, or make them stop what
- 1:08they're doing. And if they won't stop what
- 1:09they're doing, then the only way to stop them is to end them.
- 1:13And so this is the the outcome of an absolute hatred toward a
- 1:19human being who happens to be the president of the United
- 1:21States of America. And yeah, it just, it is
- 1:25incumbent upon us to disagree in agreeable ways and also to
- 1:30differentiate, to distinguish between ideas and people.
- 1:34And certain ideas can be evil and reprehensible, but we still
- 1:40need to pray for and hold out some measure of humanity for
- 1:45people. And when their humanity is
- 1:47stripped of them, then they're just caricatures to be, I guess,
- 1:50assassinated. And this is the third
- 1:52assassination attempt on the president of the United States
- 1:54of America. Whether you're on the political
- 1:56left or right, this should be profoundly troubling because at
- 2:00the end of the day, whether they're a Democrat or
- 2:02Republican, they're an American. And if they're an American,
- 2:05they're representing our nation, our interests, and we want them
- 2:09to be respected and we want their life to be extended.
- 2:13In addition, what we are seeing is an increased need to
- 2:22reconsider public events. We have seen now the martyrdom
- 2:27murder of Charlie Kirk. I can't imagine what Erica Kirk
- 2:31was dealing with tonight. I believe she was present at
- 2:33this, at this dinner with the press and so had to be very
- 2:38jarring and triggering for her. First lady Melania is their
- 2:41third attempt on her husband's life.
- 2:44And then you've got Carolyn, Carolyn Levitt, the press
- 2:48secretary, She's she's pregnant. She's about ready to give birth
- 2:50to another baby. You know, you forget that
- 2:53sometimes even if you don't like somebody, it's a wife, it's a
- 2:57mom, it's a widow, it's a pregnant lady.
- 3:00Like they're, they're human beings that are involved.
- 3:03And, and so we, we've walked into a world where life is not
- 3:08considered sacred. And, and this is not shocking
- 3:11when the number one leading cause of death in the United
- 3:13States of America is the murder of the unborn.
- 3:16We're officially a culture that no longer honors the dignity,
- 3:19value, sanctity of human life. And this is what happens.
- 3:23In addition, I would encourage everyone who holds houses,
- 3:29public events. You're a pastor, You're an event
- 3:32promoter. Heaven forbid you're a political
- 3:35person. Open events are terrifying
- 3:38because we live in a day when violence is just rising.
- 3:42And it's one thing to have sort of strong words and
- 3:45disagreement. It's another thing to take up
- 3:47arms and to try to murder someone.
- 3:50And so for those of us who are pastors and leaders, it's
- 3:53incumbent to ask how is security and are we ready for evil to
- 3:58come? And, and if it comes to a press
- 4:01event where, you know, the the, the leader of the free world
- 4:06and, and those who cover him, when evil comes and murder comes
- 4:11and terrorism comes to those events, you know that there is
- 4:14not a respect for any event. We've even seen it as well where
- 4:17sacred spaces like churches historically have just been
- 4:20overtaken by protesters and, and, and that can also elicit
- 4:24violence. And so there's a big difference
- 4:27between being safe and feeling safe.
- 4:30And, and we're, we're, we're increasingly in a world where
- 4:36people don't feel safe. They don't feel safe when they
- 4:39gather together. It's causing some people to
- 4:41isolate, to go out less and to just be a little fearful and
- 4:45careful, especially if there's any controversy around the
- 4:49leader or the event. I praise God that President
- 4:54Trump is safe for all the reasons that I would praise God
- 4:58that anyone was safe. I don't want anybody murdered.
- 5:00I don't want anybody martyred. I don't want anybody
- 5:02assassinated. I don't want I don't want people
- 5:04getting put to death by lone gunman and terrorists because of
- 5:08disagreement. And, and for those of you who
- 5:13maybe don't understand why there is an appreciation for President
- 5:17Donald Trump, This is why because he's he's fearless,
- 5:19courageous fighter. And I mean, we saw after, you
- 5:24know, bullet just grazed his ear.
- 5:27You know, he gets up, fight, fight, fight.
- 5:28He's he's a man who he is courageous.
- 5:32He is fearless. And it inspires courage and
- 5:34confidence in people. And the record behind the scenes
- 5:39in this event is that he wanted to come back out and he wanted
- 5:42to speak and he wanted to give his message and he wanted, you
- 5:46know, the event to go on. And they said, no, it's too
- 5:48volatile and people don't feel safe and, and it's too
- 5:51dangerous. But yeah, this is where you've
- 5:55got to respect a man that has this much courage to go into
- 6:00opposition and to have a third attempt on his life and also to,
- 6:07to even after his life is threatened, his first instinct
- 6:10is, no, I need to get up and I need to move forward and I need
- 6:13to do my job. This is why those of us who
- 6:16voted for him and remain appreciative of him really
- 6:20respect him. And imagine being a human being
- 6:26that they just keep trying to kill you and they keep getting
- 6:28pretty Dang close. The opposition does.
- 6:31And you still get up every day and you go to a job that you
- 6:34don't get paid for and you're trying your best to do the job.
- 6:37And when they try to end your life, it doesn't dissuade you
- 6:40from doing the job. There's just a, a really
- 6:42remarkable intensity and focus and courage and fearlessness
- 6:48that the man demonstrates that you've got to respect, you've
- 6:51got to appreciate, you've got a value.
- 6:53And so and, and thank God that no one was killed.
- 6:57And you know, one of the officers is wearing a
- 6:58bulletproof vest. But let me say this as well.
- 7:02When you want to defund the police, when you want to
- 7:04discredit law enforcement, when you want to have a reduction in
- 7:10police presence in major U.S. cities.
- 7:12And and you and you and you don't believe in the fallenness
- 7:15of humanity or the danger in the days in which we live.
- 7:19You're creating an environment where evil and evil doers and
- 7:23even those who are terrorists and murderers, they get more
- 7:25emboldened. They feel like they have a just
- 7:28cause on their hands to take somebody's life.
- 7:30And there's less respect for the rule of law and the civil
- 7:32authorities that are enforcing the law.
- 7:35And so, yeah, it just it's very concerning because we saw it
- 7:41through the election season, we saw assassination attempts.
- 7:44We saw the the murder of Charlie Kirk and his his his trial is
- 7:50supposed to be publicly beginning soon if it continues
- 7:53on pace. And now we see an event that has
- 7:57been for decades, a place where the president gets together with
- 8:01the press and they kind of go at it a little bit and you can't
- 8:06even have a dinner because of a terrorist act and an attempted
- 8:10assassination. And so this is the day in which
- 8:12we live. It's highly concerning.
- 8:14And it just goes to show that evil never stops itself.
- 8:19And so we need good guys to get in harm's way and to make evil
- 8:24stops. So thank you to everybody, first
- 8:25responders, law enforcement, security personnel and military.
- 8:29We love you, we praise God for you.
- 8:31We thank God for you. And for those who would oppose
- 8:34law, law enforcement and lawful enforcement of laws, this is the
- 8:40culture that you're breeding, one of anarchy and rebellion and
- 8:43murder and self righteousness. And I'm sure in the coming days
- 8:46we'll know a lot more about this person and won't speculate on
- 8:49his identity or his motivation. But at this point, yet again,
- 8:54people just don't feel as safe. Because after all, if they could
- 8:59get that close to the president, what's to keep evil from getting
- 9:03close to us? That's the concern.
- 9:05So be safe, take security measures and protocols for your
- 9:08family and your church family. And the Bible says to pray for
- 9:12those who are in political office.
- 9:14And let's keep praying for all those who are serving, starting
- 9:17with the commander in chief.
