- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, here we go off and running in a
- 0:01Speaker 1: busy day across the Emerald City a Pack Sports Sunday
- 0:05Speaker 1: as well as far as this one here for today's
- 0:07Speaker 1: second game of the series, coming up on a matinee Sunday,
- 0:10Speaker 1: we welcome you inside Climate Pledge Arena here for the
- 0:13Speaker 1: Seattle Kraken taking on the New Jersey Devils. A lot
- 0:17Speaker 1: to cover here again, Mike Benton with you back by
- 0:19Speaker 1: the Corps light landing in section twenty for an extended
- 0:22Speaker 1: version here of our pregame coverage. John Forsland joining us
- 0:26Speaker 1: via the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. He's coming up in just
- 0:29Speaker 1: a bit. We'll talk about Matty Beniers his three hundredth
- 0:32Speaker 1: career NHL game incoming, plus also your look into a
- 0:36Speaker 1: jam Pack Sports Sunday and Al Kaniski also going to
- 0:39Speaker 1: be along with us here in just a bit for
- 0:41Speaker 1: the booth here to break more of this down with
- 0:43Speaker 1: the Kraken trying to get past a pretty disappointing loss
- 0:46Speaker 1: from two nights ago against the Anaheim Ducks. But yet
- 0:49Speaker 1: they've had a day here to recover, process and get
- 0:51Speaker 1: back at it, and ready here for a rare and
- 0:54Speaker 1: special noom PM start time here to accommodate this busy
- 0:58Speaker 1: sports Sunday. So I want to hear from you right
- 1:00Speaker 1: now on the on the Tacoma Dodge text line at
- 1:03Speaker 1: four nine four five to one, give me one cracking
- 1:05Speaker 1: player you want a big game from here for today,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and your prediction for a course, what's going on down
- 1:11Speaker 1: the road from us about roughly three miles away, beginning
- 1:15Speaker 1: at about h.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Three point thirty.
- 1:16Speaker 1: They call that the Seahawks against the Rams the biggest
- 1:19Speaker 1: game as far as the NFL in these parts here
- 1:21Speaker 1: in about roughly eleven years. So again, give me one
- 1:24Speaker 1: cracking player that you want a big game from here
- 1:26Speaker 1: for today, and plus also your prediction for Seahawks Rams.
- 1:30Speaker 2: At four nine four five to one.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Again text us four nine four five to one on
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Tacoma Dodge text line Tacoma Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ramm
- 1:39Speaker 1: of the corner of thirty eighth and South Tacoma away
- 1:42Speaker 1: the intersection of Savings again text us at four nine
- 1:45Speaker 1: four five one. Before we get to John, here a
- 1:48Speaker 1: few opening thoughts from this one the crack and falling
- 1:50Speaker 1: forward too to the Anaheim Ducks and what happened back
- 1:52Speaker 1: in period one is exactly what they're looking at as
- 1:55Speaker 1: far as the U turn for period one here for today,
- 1:58Speaker 1: another slow start put the Cracking down by two. A
- 2:01Speaker 1: short handed goal once again in the mix and Jared
- 2:04Speaker 1: McCann coming back in for a second period goal help
- 2:07Speaker 1: matters out, but the Ducks answering two ZHO five later
- 2:10Speaker 1: on a Chris Kreider power play goal after Riker Evans
- 2:13Speaker 1: was offered a layup game just put the Kraken again
- 2:16Speaker 1: into chase mode for virtually the entire night.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Jayden Schwartz adding.
- 2:20Speaker 1: A third period goal that helped the Cracking out shot
- 2:23Speaker 1: Anaheim eleven to seven. Third period, had their chances that helped,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but got no closer before an empty ned goal.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So part of the frustration here the.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Cracking were outshot twelve three back in period one, they
- 2:35Speaker 1: had just eleven shots in the first forty minutes of play.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Plus Also, you take a look at it from the
- 2:40Speaker 1: grand scheme of things, a loss like that in a
- 2:42Speaker 1: big four point swing game, you don't want to make those,
- 2:45Speaker 1: especially a habit here with still the Kraken hanging around
- 2:48Speaker 1: right now in a picture that is still, for all
- 2:51Speaker 1: intents and purposes, very inviting. As far as the playoff picture.
- 2:56Speaker 1: They come in here for this game at twenty two
- 2:58Speaker 1: nineteen and nine, still two points back of the cut
- 3:01Speaker 1: line that seld right now by San Jose and plus
- 3:04Speaker 1: the crack and also tied or other bigger pardon behind
- 3:06Speaker 1: the Kings team that goes here to the shootout a lot,
- 3:09Speaker 1: so that certainly matters here in the standings. They don't
- 3:12Speaker 1: have any more four point swing games here until this
- 3:14Speaker 1: next weekend Vegas, Anaheim, La three in a row as
- 3:18Speaker 1: well before the Olympic breaks. So you look at here
- 3:20Speaker 1: as far as the matters money puck if you want
- 3:23Speaker 1: to buy into that. For one example, they still give
- 3:25Speaker 1: the crack an a thirty three percent chance to make
- 3:28Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup playoffs, not great odds, but it could
- 3:31Speaker 1: be a lot worse tay for instance here Winnipeg, Chicago
- 3:35Speaker 1: and Toronto. And then you take a look strength to
- 3:37Speaker 1: schedule here the crack and have the twenty first rank schedule,
- 3:40Speaker 1: So the lower you are, the easier it gets. And
- 3:42Speaker 1: not looking too bad still right now, but we're getting
- 3:45Speaker 1: here to this point where essentially rubber meets the road
- 3:48Speaker 1: here for this team, where they want to correct a
- 3:50Speaker 1: lot of habits which have snuck into their game to
- 3:53Speaker 1: open the first period play. Essentially, this will challenge veterans,
- 3:57Speaker 1: it will challenge alertness, and ultimately it will challenge preparations.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So I'm really curious how this team comes out fired
- 4:04Speaker 1: up for that and also for Maddy Benier's playing some
- 4:07Speaker 1: great hockey who will play in a three hundredth career
- 4:10Speaker 1: NHL game here for Todate and even the young kids
- 4:13Speaker 1: as well, the kind of game that we could see
- 4:15Speaker 1: from Berkeley Catton. He's young, but he's also getting a
- 4:17Speaker 1: lot of ice time and playing more and more up
- 4:19Speaker 1: now with Chandler Stevenson, which shows trust and whip that
- 4:23Speaker 1: you had to earn your trust under an NHL head coach,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and it certainly says a lot to have Lane Lambert
- 4:28Speaker 1: put him in positions to make certainly a big impact.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So a lot more to talk about, but right now,
- 4:35Speaker 1: before he gets here to the TV call, Let's get
- 4:37Speaker 1: to him right now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline right now,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and guess who joins the party once again, our friend
- 4:43Speaker 1: John Foreslyn TV play by play voice on the Kraken
- 4:47Speaker 1: Hockey Network, Amazon Prime, NHL T and T as well. Johnny, Hello,
- 4:52Speaker 1: Happy Sunday. Good morning to you, I should say before
- 4:55Speaker 1: the opening face off, out of the state of matters
- 4:58Speaker 1: here from two nights ago. I mean, and we've seen
- 5:01Speaker 1: this team when reaching full potential so far, Johnny and mentally,
- 5:06Speaker 1: they were far from it against Anaheim. What did you
- 5:10Speaker 1: take away from the four to two loss and the
- 5:13Speaker 1: reaction after.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Well, I was as disappointed, I think as anybody. I
- 5:18Speaker 3: verbalized that on the air Friday night. You know, after
- 5:22Speaker 3: the first period, I couldn't believe my eyes. I couldn't
- 5:25Speaker 3: believe that this was, you know, a team that was
- 5:29Speaker 3: working on better starts and working on establishing their game
- 5:32Speaker 3: and dictating the terms of the game and all these
- 5:35Speaker 3: things they keep talking about, and when it comes to
- 5:38Speaker 3: the point of execution, they can't get it done. So
- 5:42Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm waiting today to see exactly what
- 5:45Speaker 3: it is to show me situation. They've done enough talking
- 5:48Speaker 3: about this, They've done enough, you know, meeting, they've they've
- 5:51Speaker 3: they've they've practiced, they they've taken days off, they've tried everything.
- 5:57Speaker 3: The coaches have tried every possible mechanism to get this straight.
- 6:02Speaker 3: The bottom line is, these players, to a man, have
- 6:06Speaker 3: to look themselves in the mirror and say, am I
- 6:10Speaker 3: absolutely doing everything possible to win a hockey game? Am
- 6:15Speaker 3: I doing everything possible to leave it all out there
- 6:18Speaker 3: and then worry about my rest the next day. In
- 6:21Speaker 3: this situation, if you're playing at high noon, if you
- 6:24Speaker 3: don't empty the tank completely and give everything you have
- 6:28Speaker 3: like it's the seventh game of a playoff series, because
- 6:30Speaker 3: basically that's the kind of desperate effort in my opinion,
- 6:33Speaker 3: they need today. If they don't do that with the
- 6:37Speaker 3: opportunity to play Tuesday night, you know, what are what
- 6:40Speaker 3: are they talking about? So I really believe, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 3: the players should recognize this. I hate to say, I'll
- 6:49Speaker 3: believe it when I see it, but I feel like
- 6:51Speaker 3: we're all we've all been led down this path. So
- 6:54Speaker 3: from the leaders of the team, you know, I think
- 6:57Speaker 3: that the key here, Michael, is that for the last
- 7:00Speaker 3: few weeks, the prime headline, the prime narrative that everybody
- 7:05Speaker 3: in this market has talked about, is the fourth line.
- 7:08Speaker 3: And that's good because whoever's comprise the fourth line has
- 7:14Speaker 3: earned the praise they played that well. But when you're
- 7:17Speaker 3: talking daily about a team's fourth line and you're not
- 7:20Speaker 3: talking about the other guys who are supposed to be
- 7:23Speaker 3: your leaders and your best players on a consistent basis,
- 7:28Speaker 3: there's your problem. So today against the Devils, that's what
- 7:32Speaker 3: has to happen. And starting with the captain of the
- 7:36Speaker 3: team and going right on through the ranks, that's kind
- 7:39Speaker 3: of effort for me that they need to put on
- 7:42Speaker 3: for the fans today and kind of open up this
- 7:45Speaker 3: what could be a spectacular day here in Seattle. Open
- 7:48Speaker 3: it up with that kind of a win against a
- 7:50Speaker 3: team that's kind of found themselves again on this road trip.
- 7:53Speaker 3: New Jersey's playing well. So we'll see what goes down
- 7:56Speaker 3: from the very beginning of the game, you know, and
- 7:59Speaker 3: we'll see. And that means, you know, you need the
- 8:02Speaker 3: first goal, sure you do, but you also just need
- 8:04Speaker 3: to play with some zip. You need to win battles
- 8:07Speaker 3: in the corners for loose pucks. You need to hit
- 8:10Speaker 3: the other team more than once. You need to know,
- 8:13Speaker 3: you know, let them know they're in for a game.
- 8:16Speaker 3: You know, be the team that is that proverbial start
- 8:19Speaker 3: on time. You know that that that's up to them,
- 8:22Speaker 3: and we'll see where it goes.
- 8:24Speaker 1: And I think to your point as well, there's plenty
- 8:27Speaker 1: of chances here to empty said tank. Because this is
- 8:30Speaker 1: not as if you're demanding them to get up and
- 8:33Speaker 1: down like you know today's at Minton Oilers or the
- 8:36Speaker 1: pace of your average McKinnon shift. This all goes right
- 8:40Speaker 1: back down to the structure in which they play correct.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yes, because the structure of how they play, and that
- 8:46Speaker 3: should be the foundational piece of everything they do. And
- 8:50Speaker 3: so you know, if you're gonna if you're gonna take penalties,
- 8:54Speaker 3: that means your structure is not good. If you're going
- 8:56Speaker 3: to allow teams to you know, free wheel and gain
- 9:01Speaker 3: speed through the middle of the ice. When this team
- 9:04Speaker 3: was on point, those things were not happening. You look
- 9:07Speaker 3: at the first goal that Anaheim scored on Friday night.
- 9:11Speaker 3: You know, yes, Veniers gets a scoring chance right off
- 9:14Speaker 3: the hop. It's a great triangular play boom, great save
- 9:17Speaker 3: by dos Stall and then all of a sudden, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 3: here's a stretch Pats and you're asleep, and you're a
- 9:24Speaker 3: sleep through the middle of the ice. And yeah, the
- 9:27Speaker 3: kid can really skap goa. Cha's got tremendous speed and
- 9:30Speaker 3: he's a goal scorer. He's got twenty three goals. Now, okay,
- 9:33Speaker 3: but you're you know, two minutes into the game. When
- 9:36Speaker 3: you're allowing a scoring chance like that, that means you're
- 9:40Speaker 3: not ready to play. And even if Lubauer made the save,
- 9:43Speaker 3: you're not ready to play.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I know, speculation over the Shane Wright situation and talks
- 9:48Speaker 1: you know, Johnny Woods have reached his stall and Lane
- 9:52Speaker 1: Lambert's podium Friday really aren't so much here in your department.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But I think, just back here to the player. What
- 9:58Speaker 2: are you making out of his game right now? In
- 10:01Speaker 2: his usage?
- 10:02Speaker 3: Well listening, you know, laying after practice yesterday. I mean,
- 10:05Speaker 3: you know, it was some interesting insight as to where
- 10:09Speaker 3: the player is and what the coaching staff is trying
- 10:12Speaker 3: to help him with in terms of, you know, continuing
- 10:15Speaker 3: a development curve at the NHL level. Now you would think,
- 10:19Speaker 3: you know, at twenty two he's still young, Yes, but
- 10:22Speaker 3: he's not that young, and he's had a couple of
- 10:24Speaker 3: years to get his feet wet in the National Hockey League.
- 10:27Speaker 3: And we all felt and I think you and I
- 10:28Speaker 3: talked about it in the summer, We talked about it
- 10:32Speaker 3: in training camp and at the season kicked off, and
- 10:35Speaker 3: it was in my opinion that the wild card this
- 10:37Speaker 3: year would be Shane Wright. That for him to take
- 10:40Speaker 3: a big step, to him to build on a nineteen
- 10:42Speaker 3: goal season last year and become a consistent point producer
- 10:46Speaker 3: was vital. I mean, based on the slot that he
- 10:49Speaker 3: needs to fill, his draft position, his age, where the
- 10:53Speaker 3: team's going to go in the future. You know, at
- 10:55Speaker 3: rest on the shoulders of been years and right, and
- 10:58Speaker 3: then you get to Catin and O'Brien, you know, if
- 11:00Speaker 3: you're looking at the centers position. So you know, shame
- 11:04Speaker 3: season for me has been indifferent. Yeah, there have been
- 11:08Speaker 3: some nice moments, and there have been other moments where
- 11:11Speaker 3: you know, I don't think the trust has been there.
- 11:14Speaker 3: You look at his face off acumen, it's not very good,
- 11:17Speaker 3: and I think that hurts him. You know, they've tried
- 11:20Speaker 3: him on the wing a little bit for a few games,
- 11:22Speaker 3: but you know, he is a centerm and there's no
- 11:24Speaker 3: question about that. But for him to you know, gain
- 11:27Speaker 3: trust and get starts in each zone that are meaningful,
- 11:32Speaker 3: defensive zone starts, offensive zone starts. You know, you've got
- 11:35Speaker 3: to win the puck, you got to win the face
- 11:36Speaker 3: off and and the Kraken as a group are not
- 11:38Speaker 3: very good in the faceoff circle. So he just adds
- 11:41Speaker 3: to it. So that's that's step number one. Now, Layne
- 11:43Speaker 3: Lambert did talk about him improving defensively, you know, after
- 11:48Speaker 3: practice on Saturday, and they're working on a few things
- 11:51Speaker 3: to improve him that way. And that's all well and good,
- 11:53Speaker 3: and yet he does have to fit a team metric.
- 11:56Speaker 3: He does have to become a player that fits the mold.
- 11:59Speaker 3: So they all alike, I get it. That's the beauty
- 12:02Speaker 3: of what Lambert's trying to accomplish here. And he's right
- 12:05Speaker 3: about all of that. But with Shane, you know, at
- 12:08Speaker 3: some point he's going to have to get confidence from
- 12:12Speaker 3: being a reliable player so that his skillet shows up more. Now,
- 12:16Speaker 3: he did make a beautiful pass to Jane Schwartz, you know,
- 12:19Speaker 3: on Friday night. That's a good thing. But as a centerman,
- 12:23Speaker 3: you know, to me, just lacks the confidence to control
- 12:26Speaker 3: the game. The puck is on and office stick. He's
- 12:29Speaker 3: got to be able to handle it more. He's got
- 12:32Speaker 3: to be able to hit holes with passes, you know,
- 12:35Speaker 3: make his wingers better. It can't be the other way around.
- 12:38Speaker 3: So those are the things that he's going through right now.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Only he knows if any of this talk, which he
- 12:44Speaker 3: kind of brushed off on Friday night after the game.
- 12:48Speaker 3: That's a tough spot to be in. Your team didn't
- 12:49Speaker 3: play well, they're puting in front of the media, you're
- 12:51Speaker 3: talking about trade rumors. You're twenty two years of age.
- 12:54Speaker 3: That was disappointing for me to see and have him
- 12:58Speaker 3: go through that. It did, and he dealt with it,
- 13:01Speaker 3: and you know, I don't know if that's bugging him
- 13:03Speaker 3: or not, but there's one way out of it. I mean,
- 13:06Speaker 3: you just need to be a little bit better consistently
- 13:09Speaker 3: and then you know, maybe your your confidence will show
- 13:14Speaker 3: when you're on the power play. You know, right now
- 13:16Speaker 3: appears he's on the second unit, so we'll see, you know,
- 13:19Speaker 3: if you know how much power play time he would get.
- 13:22Speaker 3: But those are things are going to help him become
- 13:24Speaker 3: more of a score and get to his shot and
- 13:27Speaker 3: utilize you know, all those things. But losing pucks, losing battles,
- 13:33Speaker 3: turnovers in tough situations, you know, just inside the blue
- 13:37Speaker 3: line and things like that, those things, for me, have
- 13:40Speaker 3: been at the forefront of his game way too much
- 13:43Speaker 3: this year and the other stuff, and I think that's
- 13:45Speaker 3: the challenge and that's the type of situation the coaches
- 13:49Speaker 3: are trying to deal with.
- 13:50Speaker 1: John Forsland joining us right now, and Johnny you mentioned
- 13:53Speaker 1: Matty Beniers here another big piece of this, and at
- 13:55Speaker 1: the pace he's playing right now, he is creeping closer
- 13:58Speaker 1: and closer to matching his career high. He's set back
- 14:02Speaker 1: in his Calder Trophy rookie campaign. Ian Jared McCann talked
- 14:06Speaker 1: about a new dimension for him that he's reaching in
- 14:08Speaker 1: his game, as Maddie is also approaching three hundred career
- 14:12Speaker 1: NHL games here for today, I mean, where have you
- 14:14Speaker 1: seen his game move since I think from a bigger
- 14:19Speaker 1: picture scale of this year one of his career and
- 14:22Speaker 1: from the smaller scope of it day one of the season.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Well, you know, I think he's got a great year.
- 14:28Speaker 3: I really do. I think he's you know, it's unfortunate
- 14:32Speaker 3: that it's kind of hiding behind a curtain here because
- 14:34Speaker 3: the way the team has played recently, you know, and
- 14:37Speaker 3: he's just a byproduct of that. And he's made his mistakes, sure,
- 14:42Speaker 3: but so so many other players when they're not going well.
- 14:46Speaker 3: When they are going well, he's at the head of
- 14:49Speaker 3: the ship. You know. His compete level is really high
- 14:53Speaker 3: right now for me, and I think that's that's something
- 14:56Speaker 3: that has grown. I think it was there, but I
- 14:59Speaker 3: think it's it's the ability to bring it all over
- 15:02Speaker 3: and over and over again. You know, he's maturing physically,
- 15:05Speaker 3: so he's getting stronger, so he has more of that
- 15:09Speaker 3: and you know, kind of a slight guy, so for
- 15:12Speaker 3: that's some of the things we saw on his first
- 15:14Speaker 3: go around was his leg strength. You know, with that improved,
- 15:17Speaker 3: it has a little bit. He's worked on a lot
- 15:20Speaker 3: of things. It's my understanding that he's worked with the
- 15:24Speaker 3: skills coaches at different aspects of his game that have
- 15:29Speaker 3: helped him improve his skill set. So I think he's committed.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I think he's shown a lot of leadership this year.
- 15:37Speaker 3: It's a really good step. You know, is he is
- 15:40Speaker 3: he the you know, the Austin Matthews type player. No,
- 15:44Speaker 3: but but he is a He is a really solid
- 15:48Speaker 3: number two center on a great team. You can win
- 15:52Speaker 3: with him. He's only going to get better as he
- 15:55Speaker 3: moves along because he's smart and he's recognizing the situations
- 15:59Speaker 3: he's and he's always up against good players. You know,
- 16:03Speaker 3: Stevenson gets a lot of strong matchups in terms of
- 16:06Speaker 3: the eight plus player on the other side, but Veniers
- 16:08Speaker 3: will get the next one or sometimes it's best on best,
- 16:12Speaker 3: and he's got to handle that too, and he has
- 16:14Speaker 3: improved that way for me too. I think that's something
- 16:18Speaker 3: that he's been able to handle, you know, each and
- 16:20Speaker 3: every game, not just a game a week, but two
- 16:23Speaker 3: games a week, you know, when they have four. You know,
- 16:26Speaker 3: this has been basically pretty consistent in terms of him
- 16:29Speaker 3: needing the challenge regardless of the opponent.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I couldn't help, but even notice in the game
- 16:35Speaker 1: against Pittsburgh. I know that you were away on other
- 16:37Speaker 1: duties as well, but just the times he was out
- 16:40Speaker 1: there on the ice the same time with one of
- 16:42Speaker 1: the greatest players of all time in Sydney Crosby, who
- 16:45Speaker 1: we call fourth line grinder. I mean, Veniers was saying
- 16:47Speaker 1: him pace for pace, push for push as well. I
- 16:51Speaker 1: mean that's something that I don't think that was that
- 16:53Speaker 1: much noticeable. I believe about say too, maybe even three
- 16:56Speaker 1: years ago, but certainly a step you're in the right direction.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Forcelynn joins us here.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I mean, I think he knows where guys like Jacob
- 17:04Speaker 1: mllanson and Berkeley Catton are.
- 17:06Speaker 2: He once was a rookie here.
- 17:07Speaker 1: They are now trying to find their place, and I
- 17:10Speaker 1: couldn't help but notice them after practice one day ago,
- 17:13Speaker 1: which was I think built more for efficiency than length.
- 17:17Speaker 1: I mean, twenty five minutes in boom all done, line rushes,
- 17:20Speaker 1: special teams, drills, and not much room for much else.
- 17:23Speaker 1: But I think there's a certain type of energy I
- 17:24Speaker 1: saw out of Caton and Malanson Carrie at the end
- 17:28Speaker 1: of it, they've they've kind of hit an emotional reset
- 17:31Speaker 1: pretty quick. I think after Friday night, where are you
- 17:34Speaker 1: at with Catton's game right now?
- 17:37Speaker 2: And Mlanson as well, now that he's back.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Up, Well, we'll take Berkeley first. I mean, I think
- 17:45Speaker 3: his offensive instincts are really impressive. He has ability to
- 17:51Speaker 3: create plays, He has the ability to see situations use
- 17:56Speaker 3: his skills to make them better. It's a great pocket passer.
- 18:01Speaker 3: He's got an acceleration that can get him to the
- 18:04Speaker 3: net quickly, excellent hands, looks like he has a decent shot,
- 18:09Speaker 3: and that's only going to get better. Is he gets
- 18:11Speaker 3: stronger and matures more physically. And what's happened in the
- 18:17Speaker 3: last month maybe is I see a player that still
- 18:22Speaker 3: makes mistakes because he's a rookie. There's still going to
- 18:25Speaker 3: be he gets caught the wrong side of the puck,
- 18:28Speaker 3: takes a penalty, he gets caught in the wrong side
- 18:31Speaker 3: of the puck, he's not strong enough, takes a penalty.
- 18:34Speaker 3: He gets up against a bigger guy in a puck
- 18:36Speaker 3: battle that he needs to win, you know, just inside
- 18:38Speaker 3: the defensive blue line. He loses the battle and it
- 18:40Speaker 3: doesn't go well, and the other team wives in the
- 18:43Speaker 3: cracking deeper in the zone and get into an offensive sequence.
- 18:46Speaker 3: That happens. He's guilty of turning the puck over, but
- 18:49Speaker 3: so are some of the veteran guys. So you know,
- 18:52Speaker 3: those are things that happen every game. But the great plays, now,
- 18:58Speaker 3: the great plays that he makes, then each and every game,
- 19:01Speaker 3: there's at least one, if not to a three every
- 19:05Speaker 3: game that you're like, wow, So that's starting to outweigh
- 19:10Speaker 3: the negative stuff, which means he's developing and eventually he's
- 19:15Speaker 3: going to clean that stuff up, the negatives, and he's
- 19:19Speaker 3: going to continue to grow into his skill set.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Hey, before we go, I know that a lot of
- 19:24Speaker 1: us are looking forward to a happy Sunday across the
- 19:26Speaker 1: board in Seattle. I means, so Johnny for the football side,
- 19:28Speaker 1: once we're all done, Seahawks Rams, give me a.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Quick prediction.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Sixty three to nothing, Seattle.
- 19:37Speaker 1: So you are all in favor of a quick and
- 19:40Speaker 1: painless victory.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, let's go to the super Bowl. Let's get
- 19:45Speaker 3: this thing over with and let's write a great story.
- 19:49Speaker 3: The city deserves it, this team deserves it. The new
- 19:53Speaker 3: coach deserves it. Even though he's had a couple of
- 19:55Speaker 3: runs here. I you know, I know that. But he's
- 19:57Speaker 3: a young guy. You know. It's it's a great story.
- 20:01Speaker 3: So yeah, so I'm not I'm not going to vow
- 20:04Speaker 3: you with a lot of football, know how, because most
- 20:07Speaker 3: Sundays I'm watching hockey and I love football. But I
- 20:11Speaker 3: think sixty three nothing would be a great final score.
- 20:14Speaker 2: People wax a lot of about your record too. Yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 2: I think it would.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I think it would definitely would blow the Super Bowl
- 20:22Speaker 1: out of the water. From last second when they beat
- 20:24Speaker 1: den Verbin people wax a lot of poetic about just
- 20:27Speaker 1: how much fourth quarter games for the Seahawks or torture.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Who knows what's going to go down to that, But
- 20:32Speaker 1: I think a lotful.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Well remember I'm the guy. I'm the guy in uh
- 20:35Speaker 3: in Philadelphia three years ago or I don't know what
- 20:38Speaker 3: it was, it was with Eddie and JT and Super
- 20:41Speaker 3: Bowl Sunday afternoon with the Eagles and the Chiefs, right yeah,
- 20:44Speaker 3: and we're in Philadelphia and they did their predictions and
- 20:48Speaker 3: it came to me last and I said three two
- 20:50Speaker 3: Kansas City and Eddie still is angry. That was my prediction.
- 20:54Speaker 3: And it was a ridiculous prediction because I said three
- 20:57Speaker 3: to two.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Field goal and safety it is probable actually.
- 21:02Speaker 3: So anyway, so I'm gonna go with I'm going with
- 21:06Speaker 3: sixty three nothing. That's my prediction.
- 21:09Speaker 1: If you can, if you can be a prognosticator, you're
- 21:11Speaker 1: making a lot of people happier.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Johnny, thank you, have a great call. Appreciate you man.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Okay, thank you, Michael, take care.
- 21:18Speaker 1: He's always a beauty joining us here, John Forestland Beacon
- 21:21Speaker 1: Plumbing hotline. He's got to get back here to the
- 21:22Speaker 1: TV setting. It ready here for the pregame set of
- 21:25Speaker 1: things as well. But hey, who's all for its sixty
- 21:27Speaker 1: three nothing as a prediction. You drop some line right
- 21:30Speaker 1: now here our way four nine four five one to
- 21:33Speaker 1: coma Doagh text line and give me the player you're
- 21:35Speaker 1: looking to see make the biggest impact here for the
- 21:37Speaker 1: cracking today. Plus also, hey, while we're at it, a
- 21:40Speaker 1: Seahawks Rams prediction, How.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Do you feel about? Sixty three? Nothing big? Thanks again
- 21:44Speaker 2: to john Forestland.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Al Kiniski's next right here in ninety three to three KJRFM.
- 21:49Speaker 4: If you've got to come in about tonight's cracking game,
- 21:52Speaker 4: make sure we hear about it. Just text us at
- 21:55Speaker 4: four nine, four five one. Now back to Tucking Kraking
- 21:58Speaker 4: with Mike Benton on Sports Radio ninety three point three
- 22:02Speaker 4: kjr FM.
- 22:04Speaker 1: All right, busy Sunday, let's get after it here the
- 22:06Speaker 1: Crank and the Devils again, opening up in about forty
- 22:09Speaker 1: three minutes or so, not too far away from US
- 22:11Speaker 1: Huskies men's basketball. Also, they're taking on Oregon PWHL Torrent
- 22:16Speaker 1: also in action today for the PWHL Takeover Tour as well.
- 22:21Speaker 1: They're facing Vancouver in Denver end ass but certainly not
- 22:26Speaker 1: least in the three o'clock hour, three miles south here
- 22:29Speaker 1: from US Rams Seahawks as well. I know who this
- 22:33Speaker 1: guy is going forward joining us back upstairs right now,
- 22:35Speaker 1: that's al Kiniski. How do you feel about Johnny's prediction?
- 22:39Speaker 2: Sixty three? Nothing quick and painless?
- 22:41Speaker 5: Right see Hawks, That's how I feel.
- 22:45Speaker 6: Look for big today.
- 22:47Speaker 1: If there's anyone listening outside of the concourse, I think
- 22:50Speaker 1: our conversation is being piped out there.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I'll take it away again.
- 22:55Speaker 1: See Hawks, I heard you, I heard you all cracking
- 23:00Speaker 1: Devil's coming up here for the second matchup bat before
- 23:03Speaker 1: we get in the matters.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I want to dude check.
- 23:04Speaker 1: In here with the Tacoma Dodgs text line again for
- 23:07Speaker 1: the four to two five, saying I want a big
- 23:09Speaker 1: game from Matty Banier's plus also Hawks win twenty seven
- 23:12Speaker 1: to twenty three.
- 23:13Speaker 2: We get one response.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Here from Claude saying, hey, Jacob Alanson said the tone early,
- 23:17Speaker 1: rev up his line the whole team as well.
- 23:20Speaker 6: Uh.
- 23:21Speaker 2: We get one here as.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Well from Sundance Kid uh in this reaction Shane Wright
- 23:26Speaker 1: needs a good game. They're going rams on this one
- 23:29Speaker 1: by seven. Whoa bold bold here? AlOH, not not Dalkoniski,
- 23:35Speaker 1: but a separate out chiming in, I want a big
- 23:37Speaker 1: game here from Matty Beanier's Seahawks twenty one rams three
- 23:41Speaker 1: as well. All right, al, what do you want to
- 23:42Speaker 1: see it for Period one coming up?
- 23:44Speaker 7: Oh?
- 23:44Speaker 5: I got to see a great start here today, Mikey,
- 23:46Speaker 5: I want to see some INTENSI some physicality, specifically from
- 23:49Speaker 5: that fourth line, and specific specifically from Jacob.
- 23:52Speaker 6: Malanson, the lobster mobster.
- 23:54Speaker 5: I want him going out and looking for hits all
- 23:57Speaker 5: over that first period.
- 23:58Speaker 2: He had ten hits against Anaheim.
- 24:02Speaker 6: Ten hits.
- 24:02Speaker 2: That's incredible.
- 24:03Speaker 6: Ten hits too.
- 24:04Speaker 2: What he's doing, what he is doing.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Right now, it's almost as I mean literally, it's like
- 24:08Speaker 1: he's sitting everything that moves here at this point.
- 24:10Speaker 5: No, that's just it, and I like that in his game.
- 24:13Speaker 5: I like that for that line when that line plays
- 24:15Speaker 5: that way, because it carries over into the rest of
- 24:18Speaker 5: the play.
- 24:19Speaker 6: And if that line starts here tonight, look out.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Natty Beniers.
- 24:23Speaker 1: He will play in his three hundredth career NHL game.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And my goodness, how much of a player he has
- 24:29Speaker 1: turned into. I asked Johnny this question his growth here
- 24:32Speaker 1: from year two. It has taken leaps and bounds as well,
- 24:35Speaker 1: But I would even say from day one of the season, now,
- 24:38Speaker 1: what have you noticed?
- 24:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, he's leading this team in points with
- 24:41Speaker 5: thirty three right now, doing exactly what he should be doing.
- 24:44Speaker 5: He's top fifteen percent in zone exit exits out of
- 24:47Speaker 5: his own D zone in this league.
- 24:49Speaker 6: Which is to.
- 24:49Speaker 5: Say his game has expanded two hundred feet this year
- 24:52Speaker 5: and he's still getting it done at the other end
- 24:54Speaker 5: as well. He's becoming the excited player you look forward
- 24:57Speaker 5: to seeing each and every game.
- 24:59Speaker 1: What do you like about him, Jared mccannon, Jordan Eberley together.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's that's your best group out there.
- 25:05Speaker 5: You know, you get your captain on that line, you
- 25:07Speaker 5: got your best shooter and Jared mccannon obviously, you've got
- 25:09Speaker 5: the youth in Matty Benier's. I think those three when
- 25:12Speaker 5: they're clicking, nobody in this league can stop them.
- 25:14Speaker 1: All right, give us a give it here to us
- 25:16Speaker 1: in about twenty seconds here in New Jersey out of
- 25:19Speaker 1: the gate. Is this more of a pace game keeping
- 25:20Speaker 1: up with them or more of a mental game here
- 25:22Speaker 1: for period one?
- 25:23Speaker 6: Now, I think it's more of a mental game.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Cracking need to put the skates on, come out in
- 25:27Speaker 5: this ice, forget what time of the day it is,
- 25:29Speaker 5: and just play it like it's a seven o'clock start.
- 25:32Speaker 1: All right, looking forward to it here, we're gonna dive
- 25:34Speaker 1: into more of the conversation now, Thanks so much, Cracking
- 25:36Speaker 1: Devils getting closer. We're gonna come right back with you,

- 26:58Speaker 8: town trying to get to the super Bowl.
- 27:01Speaker 9: I mean, I don't think we've.
- 27:02Speaker 8: Experienced a day like this in Seattle sports in quite sometimes.
- 27:05Speaker 10: No.
- 27:06Speaker 5: I mean from the weather alone, driving across the five
- 27:08Speaker 5: to twenty bridge today, it was like a John Depner
- 27:10Speaker 5: painting looking towards Seattle, the buildings, the mountains of sky,
- 27:14Speaker 5: just setting the tone for this huge day in Seattle.
- 27:16Speaker 6: You can feel the city rumbling.
- 27:18Speaker 8: And speaking of setting the tone, the crackt are trying
- 27:20Speaker 8: to get back in the win column here to They
- 27:22Speaker 8: had a four to two loss on Friday against the
- 27:24Speaker 8: Anaheim DUTs Seattle. Now eight of their last nine they've
- 27:28Speaker 8: allowed the game's first goal, and since of their last
- 27:30Speaker 8: seven they faced a two to nothing over two to
- 27:32Speaker 8: one deficit. Lay Lambert calling it the worst forty minutes,
- 27:36Speaker 8: worst first forty minutes.
- 27:38Speaker 9: Of hockey he's seen all season.
- 27:39Speaker 8: Wrong in the back and just simply put, did not
- 27:42Speaker 8: have it on Friday.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple of things, you know, going giving up
- 27:45Speaker 5: that first goal of the game, being down after the
- 27:47Speaker 5: first period.
- 27:47Speaker 6: In the case of the Anaheim game, two to nothing.
- 27:49Speaker 5: After the first giving up the fourth shorthanded goal. In
- 27:52Speaker 5: the last five games, things are just not going well
- 27:55Speaker 5: in the first twenty to forty minutes for the Crack
- 27:57Speaker 5: and they've got to turn that around here today.
- 28:00Speaker 8: It's been a tale of two halfs for Seattle, if
- 28:03Speaker 8: you will. The first half of January, Kracking began them
- 28:07Speaker 8: on five to one in one. Now they're just one
- 28:09Speaker 8: four and one in their last six games. In your opinion,
- 28:12Speaker 8: where have you seen the biggest dropoffs for Seattle in
- 28:16Speaker 8: their last six compared to their first seven.
- 28:19Speaker 5: Well, I think the big part of it is just
- 28:20Speaker 5: what I said, the starts to this game. The Cracking
- 28:22Speaker 5: have given up the first goals of the game way
- 28:24Speaker 5: too many times over their last ten. That does not
- 28:27Speaker 5: set you off in the right foot. They've done well
- 28:29Speaker 5: to battle back in many of these games and give
- 28:31Speaker 5: themselves a chance to win. Some of that's goaltending, some
- 28:34Speaker 5: of that's defensive structure. But when you're always trying to
- 28:36Speaker 5: dig your way out of a hole after that first period.
- 28:39Speaker 6: It presents too many challenges across the red line.
- 28:42Speaker 8: The New Jersey Devils, they have won five of their.
- 28:45Speaker 9: Last six games.
- 28:46Speaker 8: Their penalty kill has been perfect and for straight going
- 28:49Speaker 8: nine for nine. They picked up a three to two
- 28:51Speaker 8: overtime win at home against Seattle a couple of weeks ago.
- 28:54Speaker 8: And for the krack and they're going to have to
- 28:56Speaker 8: stay out or find a way to get past a
- 28:59Speaker 8: tough defense but also a really good PK here tonight.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Yeah, a little preview special teams will absolutely be key today.
- 29:05Speaker 6: Ninety point nine percent.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Is that the Devil's penalty kill over the last five games.
- 29:10Speaker 5: Cracket's penalty kill's been getting better at eighty one point
- 29:12Speaker 5: twenty five. So both these teams doing their job when
- 29:15Speaker 5: they're down a man.
- 29:16Speaker 8: Six game boy, our world, look try again, six game

- 32:44Speaker 2: Mike Benton with you again.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Back to the course Light, landing in section twenty with
- 32:47Speaker 1: a Kraken coming and trying to climb back into the
- 32:49Speaker 1: playoff picture. There are two points out of the cut
- 32:52Speaker 1: line at twenty two nineteen and nine point total at
- 32:55Speaker 1: fifty three, entering game four of a six game homestand
- 32:59Speaker 1: in the face a New Jersey team right now hanging
- 33:02Speaker 1: on for dear life six points out of the playoffs.
- 33:05Speaker 6: In the East, they are.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Twenty seven, twenty two and two fifty six points, but
- 33:10Speaker 1: also ending a four game road trip as well, where
- 33:13Speaker 1: they have had some pretty good fortune heading into this one.
- 33:17Speaker 1: More on that shortly, but it's also a big part
- 33:19Speaker 1: of a big sports day here where the Kraken the
- 33:22Speaker 1: Devils playing the same time just up the road here
- 33:25Speaker 1: from us, the Husky's taken on Oregon and men's hoops. Also,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you got the torrent PWHL side takeover tour in Denver
- 33:32Speaker 1: and last but is certainly.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Not least as well.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Later on this afternoon, the biggest football game around these
- 33:37Speaker 1: parts of the NFL siding about roughly eleven years for
- 33:40Speaker 1: the NFC title game between the Seahawks and Rams, and
- 33:43Speaker 1: needless to say a lot of folks wearing split kracking
- 33:46Speaker 1: and Seahawks gear around the place here For today it's
- 33:50Speaker 1: a new one with a cracking trying to wash out
- 33:52Speaker 1: the taste of last game where they fell down to
- 33:54Speaker 1: nothing to Anaheim in period one and then trying to
- 33:57Speaker 1: fight their way back again.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Had a big idea right here for a big goal.
- 34:02Speaker 8: Period three, Shane Wright hopes it back to Evans inside
- 34:06Speaker 8: of stracking territory.
- 34:07Speaker 9: He goes far side for Lindrin Copo Cox on the right.
- 34:10Speaker 8: In front start lude Costo staf came out a long
- 34:22Speaker 8: way to play.
- 34:23Speaker 9: It had Jammes Schwartz.
- 34:26Speaker 8: It was tapped the puck hole to.
- 34:28Speaker 6: The open page back get down a goal.
- 34:30Speaker 8: Three two were eighteen oh six.
- 34:33Speaker 16: To play in the third.
- 34:34Speaker 6: It was Copacroco that got the flu line. James Schwartz
- 34:38Speaker 6: been hard to the back post.
- 34:39Speaker 5: Cocko's feats the puck a process to write right fives shorts.
- 34:45Speaker 9: On that back door.
- 34:46Speaker 6: It's a tipping three two at him and.
- 34:49Speaker 1: When he had to hit the reset button, you go
- 34:50Speaker 1: to the front of the net right and that's how
- 34:52Speaker 1: it gets it done. Where Shane Wright found Jayden Schwartz
- 34:55Speaker 1: just one fifty four into period three, Also in a
- 34:58Speaker 1: period where the cracking out shot the eleven seven but
- 35:01Speaker 1: one enough here to overcome a slugger start where lane.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Lambert called it the worst forty minutes of this season
- 35:06Speaker 1: to begin a game. End quotes as the crack And
- 35:09Speaker 1: fell for two to the Ducks and again falling down
- 35:12Speaker 1: to nothing. Giving up a shorthanded goal in period one
- 35:15Speaker 1: certainly made a major impact in a four point swing
- 35:18Speaker 1: game where the Kraken also gave up a shorthanded goal
- 35:21Speaker 1: for the fourth time in the last five games.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Getting reset into.
- 35:25Speaker 1: The weekend, Jared McCann after practice Saturday talk more about
- 35:28Speaker 1: how the Kraken can get a better start.
- 35:31Speaker 16: It's user sholder now that like when you get up
- 35:32Speaker 16: in with the leads, you just kind of, you know,
- 35:35Speaker 16: just play simple and shut it down. So you know,
- 35:37Speaker 16: when when I say chasing it like we're we're you know,
- 35:41Speaker 16: we're trying to make plays, We're trying to make que
- 35:43Speaker 16: passes from the ice and sometimes just got shipped behind them.
- 35:46Speaker 16: And at least for the first you know, ten minutes,
- 35:48Speaker 16: five minutes the game, we're gonna just keep it simple
- 35:50Speaker 16: and play the way that makes it successful.
- 35:53Speaker 1: So after an overtime losh to New Jersey earlier this
- 35:56Speaker 1: month on the road, the crack And have a chance
- 35:58Speaker 1: here to even this season series up get a split
- 36:00Speaker 1: and finally change a run that has been well a
- 36:04Speaker 1: Devil lot.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Of the time.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Needless to say, a win today would also end a
- 36:08Speaker 1: six game winless rout against New Jersey. Last winning this
- 36:11Speaker 1: series here for the crack had happened in this building
- 36:13Speaker 1: three years ago January nineteenth to twenty twenty three. Today
- 36:17Speaker 1: also opening a run of three in a row against
- 36:20Speaker 1: Eastern Conference teams Devil's Capitol, Toronto after that, with a
- 36:23Speaker 1: crack in our six eight and seven against the East
- 36:26Speaker 1: this year, and defensively, the Kraken could use a big
- 36:29Speaker 1: game here for today. Previous six games one four and
- 36:32Speaker 1: one record, they have allowed three point four goals a
- 36:35Speaker 1: game start, contrast to their previous run where they began
- 36:38Speaker 1: January five to one and one, allowing just two point
- 36:42Speaker 1: four goals per game as well. Cracking story lines. First up,
- 36:46Speaker 1: begin with the same thing we have talked about over
- 36:48Speaker 1: and over and over again, the first period and can
- 36:51Speaker 1: the Kraken end the rash of games trailing earlier or
- 36:54Speaker 1: giving up the first goal in the game the ultimate
- 36:57Speaker 1: goal here in that respect to turn around a big
- 36:59Speaker 1: trend since January eighth with the crack and half just
- 37:02Speaker 1: two wins in nine games in that span, eight times
- 37:05Speaker 1: if allowed the first goal of the game. Five times
- 37:08Speaker 1: they have trailed two to nothing in the first period.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Second story line the Crack and power play and since
- 37:14Speaker 1: the beginning of December third best unit in the NHL
- 37:17Speaker 1: at twenty nine percent. They have power play goals in
- 37:20Speaker 1: four of the last six games, and they are facing
- 37:22Speaker 1: a New Jersey squad twenty second for the penalty kill
- 37:25Speaker 1: on the road. But the Deviles have an allowed a
- 37:27Speaker 1: power play goal in five games, nine of their last nine,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and the last team to get to them, you guessed it,
- 37:34Speaker 1: the Kraken on that road game. Jared mccannon got a
- 37:37Speaker 1: second period goal there in New Jersey eleven games a go.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Third story line, Maddy Banier is hitting a milestone. His
- 37:44Speaker 1: three hundredth career NHL game is coming up, and he's
- 37:48Speaker 1: playing some pretty fine hockey right now. He's taken over
- 37:50Speaker 1: the Crack and scoring lead with thirty three points. He's
- 37:53Speaker 1: got nine points last ten games. Has also put sim
- 37:55Speaker 1: right now I'm pasted h fifty four points, which will
- 37:59Speaker 1: mark him only three points shy of fifty seven. He
- 38:02Speaker 1: hit back in his Calder Trophy campaign back in twenty
- 38:05Speaker 1: twenty two of twenty three, so he's playing great hockey.
- 38:09Speaker 2: His teammates trying to find their game.
- 38:10Speaker 1: As well, and Jared mccannon's back on Vaniers his line said,
- 38:14Speaker 1: Manny's played this season for flex effort in very important areas.
- 38:19Speaker 16: I think he's been consistent on here. You know, obviously
- 38:21Speaker 16: there's you know, one or two games where it's you know,
- 38:23Speaker 16: things aren't gonna go your way right, and you know
- 38:26Speaker 16: we've had but overall, I think he's been a very
- 38:29Speaker 16: consistent player for us. And you know, points are points.
- 38:32Speaker 16: You know you're gonna have times where it's they're gonna
- 38:35Speaker 16: go in for you and sometimes when they're not right.
- 38:36Speaker 16: You know, it's kind of a streaky game when it
- 38:38Speaker 16: comes to that. But you know he's been he's been great,
- 38:40Speaker 16: especially defensive.
- 38:41Speaker 1: One thing about today, it's pretty important to watch maybe
- 38:44Speaker 1: how the Kraken respond early, and Jared mccannon said their
- 38:48Speaker 1: leadership knows the direction for us.
- 38:50Speaker 16: I think it's more action. You know, it's not we
- 38:51Speaker 16: don't really have kind of the vocal type in here,
- 38:55Speaker 16: but you know, we're just trying to to go out
- 38:58Speaker 16: there compete every single night, and you know we've we've
- 39:01Speaker 16: had times where we do do that for consistent sixty
- 39:04Speaker 16: minutes and then we've obviously off. Last night we didn't
- 39:07Speaker 16: have it, so you know you got to bring the
- 39:08Speaker 16: consistency back Cracking.
- 39:11Speaker 1: We'll have Joey to cord in Net looking to snap
- 39:13Speaker 1: a three game losing skid. In two games against New

- 42:05Speaker 1: Your pregame show was served up by frostbrewed Cores Light,
- 42:08Speaker 1: Choose Chill, Mike Benton again with you back by the
- 42:10Speaker 1: Corps Light landing in section twenty and time now for
- 42:13Speaker 1: a look at New Jersey sixth place in the Metro
- 42:16Speaker 1: Division and hanging in there for dear life in this
- 42:18Speaker 1: playoff mix. And they've gone through a bit of an
- 42:20Speaker 1: injury bug. Luke Hughes to long term IR, banged up
- 42:23Speaker 1: his shoulder on their road trip Monday in Calgary, their
- 42:27Speaker 1: leader in time on ice and he has one to
- 42:29Speaker 1: four on IR for a team that has been struggling
- 42:32Speaker 1: to score goals consistently with also some finishing issues, but
- 42:36Speaker 1: they found their way last time out beat the Canucks
- 42:38Speaker 1: five four, Cody Glass three point game as well for
- 42:41Speaker 1: the former Portland winter Hawk and the Devils and now
- 42:44Speaker 1: all of a sudden won five of their last six
- 42:46Speaker 1: games after beginning January one and four allowing five point
- 42:51Speaker 1: three goals per game. Conversely, last six they have allowed
- 42:55Speaker 1: just two point three per game. So they're finding their
- 42:58Speaker 1: way right now, three to zero on this four game
- 43:00Speaker 1: road trip. And one thing about New Jersey, they can
- 43:03Speaker 1: be a rush team and a transition team, and they
- 43:05Speaker 1: tend to make this game a race here to the
- 43:08Speaker 1: end of the second period. They are eighteen and zero
- 43:10Speaker 1: when they lead after two periods, and they have plenty
- 43:13Speaker 1: of top ben talent with the likes of Nicoheesher, Jack
- 43:16Speaker 1: Hughes and Jashper Bratt, who are their top three scorers
- 43:18Speaker 1: as well. Hughes has also gone through an injury bug
- 43:21Speaker 1: Jack Hughes as well, but he's right now at a
- 43:23Speaker 1: near point per game total with thirty two points in
- 43:26Speaker 1: thirty three games. Double story lines first up again with
- 43:30Speaker 1: Dougie Hamilton. He's on a heater on their back end
- 43:32Speaker 1: seven game points streak, all coming on assists, and of
- 43:36Speaker 1: course of the situation very much in the balance reportedly
- 43:39Speaker 1: here in trade talks, but with Luke ces out, the
- 43:41Speaker 1: Kracking could be seeing a lot of him. He is
- 43:44Speaker 1: their active time on ice leader right now at twenty
- 43:46Speaker 1: one thirty two per game. Secondly, Nicohesher on a run
- 43:52Speaker 1: leading to score right now thirty nine points and fifty
- 43:54Speaker 1: one games. In the last time out against the Kraken,
- 43:56Speaker 1: he was tough to handle as he scored two goals,
- 43:58Speaker 1: including at win all the time had to head in
- 44:01Speaker 1: this series as well, he's got eight points in nine games,
- 44:04Speaker 1: so the Kraken who could be seeing a lot of him,
- 44:06Speaker 1: trying to find a way to keep him at bay
- 44:09Speaker 1: for this one. As far as the Devils are can
- 44:11Speaker 1: certainly been feeling pretty good about themselves here on the road,
- 44:14Speaker 1: and Jasper Brad said they try to keep their game
- 44:17Speaker 1: simple in the recent going.
- 44:21Speaker 19: Our expectations going into the game has been just being
- 44:24Speaker 19: ready to play a zero zero game or winning in
- 44:27Speaker 19: a one outing game. Uh, just kind of like place
- 44:30Speaker 19: martin the neutral zone against I mean a lot of fast,
- 44:34Speaker 19: skilled teams and not not feeding their offense to to
- 44:37Speaker 19: get into a just a back and forth game and
- 44:40Speaker 19: be able to control the game a little bit like that.
- 44:42Speaker 19: So I think, I mean our zone structure coming into
- 44:46Speaker 19: Diesel has been good and uh, and then just to
- 44:49Speaker 19: flow over four lines. I think that's been kind of
- 44:51Speaker 19: what's been driving our team to depth in our team
- 44:53Speaker 19: that everyone is contributing, and it's been it's been good
- 44:57Speaker 19: and it's been fun playing that way.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Devils will go with Jacob Marstrom in net. He'll be
- 45:02Speaker 1: out there for the sixth time in the last seven games.
- 45:04Speaker 1: He comes off four goals allowed on twenty five shots
- 45:07Speaker 1: and all win over the Canucks back on Friday.
- 45:10Speaker 2: After this ever written.

- 47:42Speaker 9: The Super Bowl super Bowl sixty coming up this year.
- 47:45Speaker 9: The La Rams standing in their way.
- 47:47Speaker 8: In the way of the Kraken are the Devils Cracking
- 47:49Speaker 8: sit two points back of that final wildcard spot in

- 47:55Speaker 6: So these points.
- 47:55Speaker 8: Coming up here in the next couple of weeks ago
- 47:57Speaker 8: going to be massive for Seattle. What are they need

- 48:03Speaker 6: Well, let's start with intensity here today.
- 48:05Speaker 5: This is brunch hockey, not brunch vibes from the opening
- 48:08Speaker 5: face off the Krack and need to come out like
- 48:10Speaker 5: the coffee.
- 48:10Speaker 6: Machine's broken and everyone's already annoyed.
- 48:13Speaker 5: Finish checks win races and make the Devils realize Seattle
- 48:16Speaker 5: didn't wake up early to ease into anything.
- 48:19Speaker 9: Set the tone early, loud, fast.
- 48:21Speaker 5: And slightly unhinged. Secondly, win the first period. The first
- 48:26Speaker 5: twenty minutes tell the whole story in Matt Day games,
- 48:28Speaker 5: either you're skating downhill or chasing it all.
- 48:31Speaker 6: Afternoon, get the puck deep, get.
- 48:33Speaker 5: Shots on net and force the Devils to defend instead
- 48:36Speaker 5: of dance. Score first and make the Jersey question who
- 48:39Speaker 5: had the ox scoord in the locker room momentum before
- 48:42Speaker 5: noon is a beautiful thing. Third win the special team's
- 48:46Speaker 5: battle power. Plays need to look dangerous, not like five
- 48:49Speaker 5: guys searching for a Wi Fi signal. Move it quick,
- 48:52Speaker 5: shoot with purpose, and for the love of all things hockey.
- 48:55Speaker 5: No short headed goals against on the kilope, aggressive, disrupt
- 48:59Speaker 5: lanes and make life miserable.
- 49:01Speaker 6: Special Teams can flip this game faster than than a hot.
- 49:04Speaker 5: Stack of pancakes if the Crack can bring intensity early
- 49:08Speaker 5: on the first period and don't hand out Special teams freebies.
- 49:11Speaker 6: Don't be in control by the time the coffee kicks in.
- 49:13Speaker 5: Start fast, play heavy, and forced New Jersey to chase
- 49:16Speaker 5: instead of Cruise, Matt Dayhawkey rewards the team that shows.
- 49:19Speaker 6: Up ready, not the ones still rubbing sleep under their eyes.
- 49:23Speaker 5: Do those three things, and brunch taste a whole lot
- 49:25Speaker 5: better with two points on the side, only a little unhitched.
- 49:29Speaker 9: Slight lightly, just a slightly unhitched.
- 49:32Speaker 8: The shorthanded goals you talked about that in your games,
- 49:35Speaker 8: you have to avoid those here tonight you need to
- 49:38Speaker 8: avoid a two to nothing or a two to one start.
- 49:40Speaker 8: Lane Lambert was not happy with that effort on Friday
- 49:42Speaker 8: night against the Anaheim Ducks. But I think for Seattle
- 49:46Speaker 8: maybe this could be an opportunity. The quick turnaround, the
- 49:49Speaker 8: short rest, you don't have time to sit.
- 49:52Speaker 6: And stew and think. I thought Lane's.
- 49:54Speaker 8: Comment this morning was we've not been playing that well
- 49:57Speaker 8: at seven o'clock, so maybe noon today will sw things up.
- 50:00Speaker 9: So they could use that to their advantage here as well.
- 50:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, Seattle give up the first goal of
- 50:05Speaker 5: the game for the eighth of the last nine games.
- 50:07Speaker 5: But I'll tell you giving up four shorthanded goals in
- 50:09Speaker 5: your last five that's worse. I would rather leave the
- 50:12Speaker 5: first period down one nothing from maybe a power play
- 50:15Speaker 5: goal or even a well earned goal than a shorthanded goal.
- 50:19Speaker 5: So if you're going to give one up, make sure
- 50:20Speaker 5: it's even stranked their power play.
- 50:22Speaker 8: No changes in the lineup today for the Seattle cracket
- 50:25Speaker 8: up front or on defense.
- 50:26Speaker 9: Joey decord, We'll get the start in net.
- 50:28Speaker 8: If you're not happy with the performance, what's the reasoning, man,
- 50:32Speaker 8: I'm not questioning.
- 50:33Speaker 9: Oh no, no, but why go back with the same
- 50:36Speaker 9: lineup again?
- 50:37Speaker 6: Might the second nine roup? Yeah?
- 50:38Speaker 5: I mean, I think you want to make sure that
- 50:40Speaker 5: the locker room knows that that how things went last
- 50:43Speaker 5: game is not acceptable. So there has to be some
- 50:45Speaker 5: accountability message delivered there. You delivered it a little stronger
- 50:49Speaker 5: when you make changes to the lineup, whether it's a
- 50:51Speaker 5: line combination.
- 50:52Speaker 6: Or guys coming in or out of the lineup. I
- 50:54Speaker 6: think the message was delivered verbally.
- 50:56Speaker 5: I'll tell you if it doesn't happen here today, I
- 50:58Speaker 5: think you see a lot of changes going to the
- 50:59Speaker 5: next game. So part of the part of it is
- 51:02Speaker 5: that A part of it is we've heard Lane Lambert
- 51:04Speaker 5: talk about trying to get some of these lines to gel,
- 51:07Speaker 5: trying to get chemistry between guys, and I think that
- 51:10Speaker 5: you got to leave guys together for a little bit
- 51:12Speaker 5: to see if that happens before jumpling all up again.
- 51:15Speaker 8: You know, there's one part of our lineup that we'd
- 51:17Speaker 8: never have to worry about.
- 51:18Speaker 6: Change always, Gel always Jel.

- 53:50Speaker 1: Laine Lambert standing by right now. Whatever it fits you, Thanks, Mike.
- 53:53Speaker 22: Lane did not mention any words following the loss of
- 53:56Speaker 22: Anaim Docks. Just take us through your disappointment in your
- 54:00Speaker 22: frustration with that four two loss.
- 54:02Speaker 23: Yeah, I didn't think we were very good in the
- 54:04Speaker 23: first forty minutes. I thought we played better in the
- 54:06Speaker 23: last forty although, you know, like I've talked about in
- 54:09Speaker 23: the last couple of weeks, the trend in the league
- 54:10Speaker 23: is when you get a lead, you tend to sit
- 54:13Speaker 23: back and protect it. I thought we did that a
- 54:15Speaker 23: little bit against the Islanders as well, which made it
- 54:18Speaker 23: difficult for them. You know, in the third period an
- 54:22Speaker 23: I'm sat back a little bit allowed us to get
- 54:23Speaker 23: a little bit of momentum going. But the first two
- 54:27Speaker 23: periods we weren't very good games over it's a past history.
- 54:30Speaker 6: We've got to be better today.
- 54:32Speaker 22: You've talked a little bit in the past about chasing
- 54:35Speaker 22: leads and chasing teams. Thus, six times in the last
- 54:37Speaker 22: seven you have faced either a two nothing or a
- 54:40Speaker 22: two to one deficit. How can you get off to
- 54:42Speaker 22: a better start here tonight and limit those opportunities from Jersey?
- 54:46Speaker 23: Just focus on getting pucks in behind their name, making
- 54:50Speaker 23: their defense turn. We turned the puck over too many
- 54:52Speaker 23: times in the first five minutes against Anna, I'm and
- 54:56Speaker 23: when you do that, they transition back and you end
- 54:58Speaker 23: up spending time in your own zone. Not a recipe for.
- 55:01Speaker 22: Success when you're trying to get off to better starts.
- 55:05Speaker 22: As we've talked a lot about, is it a mentality
- 55:08Speaker 22: off the face off? Is it a you know, not
- 55:10Speaker 22: being ready for that opening push from other teams?
- 55:13Speaker 9: What can you point to as maybe a reason why.
- 55:16Speaker 22: Seattle has not been able to get off to the
- 55:18Speaker 22: type of starts recently that you would like.
- 55:21Speaker 23: Well, you know, you can couple it with a few
- 55:23Speaker 23: different things. Four times, are you know we've let the
- 55:25Speaker 23: first shot it, and so that doesn't help. You know,
- 55:29Speaker 23: we need to get some saves right off a hop
- 55:33Speaker 23: and you know, build some momentum from there.
- 55:36Speaker 8: You know.
- 55:37Speaker 23: But at the end of the day, you know, we
- 55:39Speaker 23: have enough guys in this team and enough better guys
- 55:41Speaker 23: in this team that they know that the starts haven't
- 55:45Speaker 23: been good enough and won't.
