- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hi everyone! Hey Lucas, I was out walking yesterday and got a little lost. Lucas: Oh no. Did you have to ask someone for help? Luna: I did, but I totally froze. I couldn't remember how to ask where something is in German. Lucas: Perfect timing then. Today, we are going to practice asking for and understanding directions. Luna: Yes, please. Let's start with the most basic thing. How do I ask where the train station is? Lucas: The train station is 'der Bahnhof'. So you say: 'Wo ist der Bahnhof?' Luna: Wo ist der Bahnhof? Lucas: Exactly. 'Wo ist...' means 'Where is...'. So you can ask for any place. Wo ist der Bahnhof? Luna: Wo ist der Bahnhof? That's clear. So if I want the supermarket, I say 'Wo ist der Supermarkt?' Lucas: Right. Wo ist der Supermarkt? And remember, 'der' for masculine nouns like Bahnhof and Supermarkt. Luna: Got it. Now, what if someone tells me to go straight? Lucas: Then they say 'Gehen Sie geradeaus.' That means 'Go straight ahead.' Luna: Gehen Sie geradeaus. Lucas: Good. 'Geradeaus' means straight ahead. Let's say it together. Gehen Sie geradeaus. Luna: Gehen Sie geradeaus. Okay, and left and right? Lucas: Left is 'links' and right is 'rechts'. So 'Gehen Sie links' means 'Go left'. 'Gehen Sie rechts' means 'Go right'. Luna: Links. Rechts. Gehen Sie links. Gehen Sie rechts. Lucas: Perfect. Now, imagine you are lost and you ask someone. They point and say 'Das ist hier.' That means 'It is here.' Luna: Das ist hier. So if they say that, I'm already there. Good to know. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice a short dialogue. I'll be a stranger. You ask me where the train station is. Luna: Okay. Wo ist der Bahnhof? Lucas: Gehen Sie geradeaus, dann links. Luna: So straight, then left. Gehen Sie geradeaus, dann links. Lucas: Yes. 'Dann' means 'then'. So you can combine directions. Luna: That's useful. Another one: Wo ist der Supermarkt? Lucas: Gehen Sie rechts, dann geradeaus. Luna: Right, then straight. Gehen Sie rechts, dann geradeaus. Lucas: You've got it. Now, let's go over the phrases one more time. Luna: Wo ist der Bahnhof? Lucas: Gehen Sie geradeaus. Luna: Links. Lucas: Rechts. Luna: Das ist hier. Lucas: You know, these phrases are so practical. And with Fexingo, you can practice them anytime. Luna: Totally. And I love that we don't have ads interrupting. It feels like a real conversation. Lucas: We deliberately keep the show ad-free. If you want to support that choice, you can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to keep this going for everyone. And it really helps. Lucas: Alright, back to directions. Let's imagine you are at a market and want to find the bakery. Luna: Okay. Wo ist die Bäckerei? Lucas: Gehen Sie links, dann rechts. Luna: Links, dann rechts. So I go left first, then right. Lucas: Exactly. And if the bakery is right there, they might say 'Das ist hier.' Luna: Das ist hier. Perfect. I think I can manage to find my way now. Lucas: Practice these phrases, and you'll be fine. Remember: Wo ist... Gehen Sie geradeaus, links, rechts, and Das ist hier. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I'll practice asking for directions everywhere I go. Lucas: That's the spirit. Keep practicing with Fexingo, and see you next time. Luna: Tschüss!
