- 0:01Speaker 1: College football fans, Welcome back to the College Ball Show.
- 0:05Speaker 1: He's Marshall, I'm Chris, and we're here to talk the last.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Game of the season.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We will, you know, recap what happened in the semifinals,
- 0:17Speaker 1: talk about some other items, but really, man, we are
- 0:20Speaker 1: going to preview and predict the championship game coming up
- 0:24Speaker 1: this Monday, Ohio State in Notre Dame. Talk about brain
- 0:30Speaker 1: brand names there. It's a good matchup obviously. Ohio State
- 0:37Speaker 1: on the surface, talent wise, seem to have a large advantage.
- 0:41Speaker 1: They're not a thirteen point favorite though it's been hanging
- 0:47Speaker 1: right around eight, eight and a half. I haven't I
- 0:50Speaker 1: don't think I ever saw a climb to ten or
- 0:53Speaker 1: even drop to six and a half or seven or
- 0:54Speaker 1: anything like that. So we're gonna preview and predict it.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Like I said, it's been a really interesting run. Each round,
- 1:02Speaker 1: they've gotten a lot better. We were just talking about
- 1:04Speaker 1: before we hit record. Oh that's three semifinals in a
- 1:10Speaker 1: row now as far as three separate years that we've had,
- 1:14Speaker 1: you know, some really interesting semifinals. Whereas usually one game
- 1:18Speaker 1: for sure would be a blowout or not that great
- 1:21Speaker 1: of a game, not a close game and then one
- 1:26Speaker 1: maybe you get lucky, maybe it'd be a great Oklahoma Georgia,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you know, a bunch of overtimes or something.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But a lot of times it wasn't like that.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So we have been kind of spoiled, and hopefully the
- 1:36Speaker 1: semifinals kind of go like that. Moving forward, anyway, we're
- 1:41Speaker 1: gonna preview and predict it. If this is your first

- 2:50Speaker 1: bring in my co host Marshall. Marshall, how you doing
- 2:53Speaker 1: in you know, college football? At times now we're in
- 2:58Speaker 1: more marathon mode rather than a sprint, because you know,
- 3:02Speaker 1: from late August until conference championship weekend, it feels like, man,
- 3:07Speaker 1: that's like, you know, it's like three months, but it
- 3:10Speaker 1: sure doesn't feel like it feels like a sprint. But
- 3:12Speaker 1: then we always had that three or four week break
- 3:15Speaker 1: with before we had to wait for the big, big games,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and now it's just constantly going. And you know, I
- 3:21Speaker 1: think there's enough time in between to have the players rest,
- 3:26Speaker 1: get their stuff together, game plan, but it's here, man,
- 3:30Speaker 1: we got ourselves a big matchup coming off some really
- 3:33Speaker 1: interesting semi final games.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah. I actually had the that self realization and I'm
- 3:41Speaker 3: lucky today a girl who's really into sports. So I
- 3:44Speaker 3: was literally talking about, like we're soon about having our
- 3:47Speaker 3: weekends of no football and I love college I love NFL,
- 3:50Speaker 3: but we're we're down. We're gonna be down to fourteen
- 3:52Speaker 3: is the NFL. After this weekend, We're gonna we're gonna
- 3:54Speaker 3: be down to two. I mean, the weekends are gonna
- 3:57Speaker 3: be like and I'm not gonna play about March madness,
- 3:59Speaker 3: but it's like, damn, really do get spoiled where and
- 4:02Speaker 3: especially been spoiled a lot lately with the college ball
- 4:04Speaker 3: playoff of like, dude, you had Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday money,
- 4:08Speaker 3: you had that almost like a couple of dude that
- 4:12Speaker 3: is the best. So but it can't last forever. So
- 4:16Speaker 3: but hey, at the first playoff system, I know that
- 4:19Speaker 3: the seeding thing was kind of weird, but besides that,
- 4:22Speaker 3: it's it's been a pretty i would say, a pretty
- 4:24Speaker 3: good successful year. And again for people who are haters
- 4:28Speaker 3: of it, because there's gonna be haters nowadays no matter
- 4:30Speaker 3: what think of how much this year had been crazy,
- 4:33Speaker 3: if we only would have had four teams, you would
- 4:35Speaker 3: have had a legit amount of teams who realistically, there's
- 4:39Speaker 3: a good chance for now, Chris, if you only did
- 4:40Speaker 3: a four team playoff, that possibly Notre dameer Ohio State
- 4:45Speaker 3: don't make the tournament. I'm not saying that they would
- 4:47Speaker 3: have been left out, but you could have had so
- 4:49Speaker 3: many different arguments for who is going to be in
- 4:52Speaker 3: Ohio State probably would have made it more likely, but
- 4:55Speaker 3: it's not a guarantee. And Notre Dame, it'd be that
- 4:58Speaker 3: weirdest fout of Well, they have a good record, but
- 5:01Speaker 3: damn their one loss was super super.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Bad and so have they beaten and stuff like that.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so in a way, we've these teams should be grateful,
- 5:09Speaker 3: and I'm not saying that this is like a fraud
- 5:12Speaker 3: of a championship, but like, we got what we wanted.
- 5:15Speaker 3: We got it good, we got good semifinals. We got
- 5:17Speaker 3: some good news stories with Arizona State and Boise State,
- 5:20Speaker 3: Like we got some guys in Scottaboy and genty, which
- 5:23Speaker 3: is good for the sport. Like there's all these positives
- 5:26Speaker 3: and like I said last show when I started, there's
- 5:29Speaker 3: a great chance Chris and next year of the twelve
- 5:33Speaker 3: teams made the playoffs this year, I bet half are
- 5:34Speaker 3: gonna be new. I bet six of the teams next
- 5:37Speaker 3: year are gonna be new teams, which is even better
- 5:39Speaker 3: for the sport. So on all I think it's great.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I'm a little bit happy because I did win a
- 5:45Speaker 3: bet on Ohio State in that game, so the Gambley
- 5:47Speaker 3: that gods are on my favorite these semi finals. But yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 3: I like what the college sport has done, and the
- 5:52Speaker 3: playoffs only gotta get better. They might sharpen out a
- 5:55Speaker 3: couple of things, and people want change with the CD,
- 5:57Speaker 3: but overall, I think it's been a very successful year
- 6:00Speaker 3: and we're much better off this year due to how
- 6:02Speaker 3: we could have been from the past.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right though, real quick, because you know, although
- 6:11Speaker 1: if you look at the like take away the seatings,
- 6:13Speaker 1: just look at the rankings, right, sure, obviously you had
- 6:15Speaker 1: Oregon one, Georgia two, touches three, Penn State four, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: you're right, would they have been like would they have
- 6:25Speaker 1: like In the past, the loser, the loser of the
- 6:29Speaker 1: conference game was not given so was not always given
- 6:35Speaker 1: some sort of well, hey.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Man, you know it, we won't punish them type thing.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Now it's different now because the conference finals are different
- 6:45Speaker 1: because it wasn't always the best two teams in the
- 6:48Speaker 1: conference finals. Now that they have ritted divisions, that does help,
- 6:53Speaker 1: and so I could see showing more respect for that,
- 6:55Speaker 1: but to your point, Notre Dame one loss, I don't
- 6:59Speaker 1: think they would.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Have got it, but you never know.
- 7:01Speaker 1: You never know because that was two losses then of
- 7:04Speaker 1: both Texas and Notre Dame, or in Penn State. But
- 7:08Speaker 1: you could also say Ohio State like you said, because
- 7:11Speaker 1: after all, they beat Penn State in Penn State, you know,
- 7:15Speaker 1: so you could say they should.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Have been fourth.
- 7:17Speaker 1: So that's a good point, and you know a lot
- 7:21Speaker 1: of people are kind of I look at that as like, dude,
- 7:25Speaker 1: the fifth and sixth rated takes seedings out of it. Okay,
- 7:28Speaker 1: the fifth and six rated teams ranked how they ranked
- 7:32Speaker 1: him in the last one.
- 7:33Speaker 2: If you go to.
- 7:34Speaker 1: ESPN or wherever you look at the poll, they're fifth
- 7:37Speaker 1: and sixth. Those teams you know, should be in obviously
- 7:43Speaker 1: because they beat those teams. You know, they beat Oregon,
- 7:47Speaker 1: Ohio State. Did you know Georgia got beat by Notre Dame.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Of course, Penn State got beat by Notre Dame and
- 7:54Speaker 1: Ohio State, so they more than deserve to be there.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And what's crazy is I think it's nine in a
- 8:03Speaker 1: row or eight in a row now against ranked teams
- 8:06Speaker 1: just in general for Notre Dame.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And then Ohio State, Marshall.
- 8:12Speaker 1: When people say, oh, they wouldn't even made it and
- 8:14Speaker 1: all that, and this isn't both these teams don't deserve
- 8:17Speaker 1: it in a sense, it's like that makes no sense
- 8:20Speaker 1: because literally, Ohio State this year had to face five
- 8:28Speaker 1: top five opponents.
- 8:30Speaker 2: When has that happened, Marshall?
- 8:34Speaker 1: And you know what, they're gonna face another the top
- 8:37Speaker 1: five opponent in Notre Dame because they're the fifth.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Rank right now. So six top five opponents in one year. Shit.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I remember making a big deal about LSU having to
- 8:48Speaker 1: face like seven ranked teams and then have to play
- 8:51Speaker 1: Bama again. Right, I always looked it down, like, Dad,
- 8:55Speaker 1: that was a tough schedule, man, But I.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Mean, this shit's crazy.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So the whole thing of not you know, it's gonna
- 9:02Speaker 1: be a fake championship and it won't count, that's just
- 9:05Speaker 1: all stupidity.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And yeah, it's just it.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Some sort of fandom emotion is in there. But yeah, dude,
- 9:14Speaker 1: that's that's crazy. To go four and one against the
- 9:17Speaker 1: top five and maybe five and one if they get
- 9:19Speaker 1: it done, man, that.
- 9:21Speaker 2: That's a hell of a run.
- 9:22Speaker 1: And it's not even saying, oh, they're the most talented
- 9:25Speaker 1: team in five years or you know, people were down
- 9:28Speaker 1: in Michigan last year because they thought they couldn't handle
- 9:32Speaker 1: you know, a team from twenty seventeen or twenty twenty Bama.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's like, dude, those teams don't really exist as much now,
- 9:39Speaker 1: so nobody's gonna be.
- 9:41Speaker 2: That deep, you know. Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Anyway, Yeah, we've had a lot, we've had a lot
- 9:47Speaker 1: to talk about, man, and it has been fun, like
- 9:50Speaker 1: I said, and just kind of you know, getting into
- 9:53Speaker 1: these games. The Notre Dame Penn State game, you know,
- 9:59Speaker 1: Penn's Day came out running very very well, really really well,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and you know they had a drive that was fifteen plays,
- 10:11Speaker 1: ninety yards over seven minutes to make it ten to zero.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Now there was a bad pass. Slash probably could have
- 10:20Speaker 1: caught it and that could have made it fourteen to zero.
- 10:26Speaker 1: The catch could have been made. I don't know if
- 10:28Speaker 1: he could have. You know, in callge, you touch your knee,
- 10:30Speaker 1: it's over. You can't get up unless you know, like
- 10:34Speaker 1: not like the pros, right, And so I think having
- 10:37Speaker 1: to catch it in stretch because it was such a
- 10:40Speaker 1: bad pass that I think that the kids should have
- 10:44Speaker 1: caught it. But I don't know if he would have
- 10:46Speaker 1: scored as my point, but then again you would have
- 10:48Speaker 1: been ready at the goal line.
- 10:49Speaker 2: They probably would have went for it. But either way, when.
- 10:52Speaker 1: You look at how the twenty seven to twenty four,
- 10:54Speaker 1: a difference of three points and seven points right then
- 10:58Speaker 1: and there made a different perence. But then you have
- 11:01Speaker 1: you know, Notre Dame just going crazy late second early third,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and they go on a seventeen to oh run. Penn
- 11:10Speaker 1: State responds with the fourteen oh run. I mean it
- 11:14Speaker 1: was back and forth and forth. I did not like
- 11:17Speaker 1: that what you were saying before we hit record. I
- 11:19Speaker 1: did not see seventeen to fourteen in the fourth quarter
- 11:25Speaker 1: that that's probably what I would have thought for.
- 11:26Speaker 2: A final score.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I was happy that the game started slow because
- 11:32Speaker 3: I took the first half under that was pretty stress free. Obviously,
- 11:38Speaker 3: that bad pass the goal line definitely helped my increased
- 11:42Speaker 3: chances when that bet, which I did h So the
- 11:46Speaker 3: game kind of played out how I expected. Both teams
- 11:49Speaker 3: had I would say, better defenses than offenses, and obviously
- 11:52Speaker 3: normally in high end games you have the first cour
- 11:56Speaker 3: is got to be slow, which it was. I don't
- 11:59Speaker 3: think they people expected the seven minute drive, but to
- 12:02Speaker 3: give credit to credit to Penn State. Hey, you pulled
- 12:05Speaker 3: that off. Like Notre Dames had a really solid defense
- 12:08Speaker 3: all year, and if you can keep them off the
- 12:11Speaker 3: field and you can run the bomb for eight minutes,
- 12:13Speaker 3: that's incredible. Like a that makes their defense tired. So
- 12:17Speaker 3: if they do get a three out offense, now you're
- 12:19Speaker 3: back in the field, that defense is still probably dog tired.
- 12:22Speaker 3: So that was a really nice, just well thought out
- 12:25Speaker 3: drive and you made simple play after simple play. No
- 12:27Speaker 3: home run plays, but it took care of business in
- 12:31Speaker 3: the first half. I mean, aside from that one short pass,
- 12:33Speaker 3: Allard played pretty well Notre Dame though, I mean pretty
- 12:39Speaker 3: much the whole playoffs, Chris, they've not really looked flashy
- 12:43Speaker 3: on offense. It literally has been, Hey, they're the running
- 12:47Speaker 3: backs are gonna make some plays. They will like built
- 12:49Speaker 3: put them nine ten yards, nine ten yards. Okay, maybe
- 12:52Speaker 3: maybe hit a pass here and there, but then okay,
- 12:56Speaker 3: third and one, we're doing the Riley Leonard play where
- 13:00Speaker 3: he just runs. He it's almost kind of got a
- 13:02Speaker 3: Cam Newton effect that I just said, because like, obviously
- 13:06Speaker 3: he's not as physical and strong as Cam was, but
- 13:08Speaker 3: like there's not a lot of quarterbacks that I've recalled
- 13:12Speaker 3: in college to where if the team needs a big
- 13:14Speaker 3: play for the past, however, maybe playoff games Loder Dame
- 13:18Speaker 3: has had, it's just been okay, dude, third and two
- 13:20Speaker 3: thirty three or third one. Riley run the ball like
- 13:23Speaker 3: that is their go to play, which hopefully is gonna
- 13:27Speaker 3: work for Ohio State if you're a Notre Dame fan,
- 13:29Speaker 3: because if not, good luck, like in the game before
- 13:33Speaker 3: Penn State and the one now, like that's kind of
- 13:36Speaker 3: their mo which I think does show you The issue
- 13:39Speaker 3: we talked about a lot this year, Chris, was their
- 13:42Speaker 3: wide receivers have never really just gotten off the map.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Like last year with Hartman from Wake Forest, the wide
- 13:51Speaker 3: receiver numbers weren't that good. This year, the wide receiving
- 13:55Speaker 3: yards passing wasn't that good. So I will tip my
- 13:59Speaker 3: hat that, hey, you don't throw the ball that well,
- 14:01Speaker 3: especially nowadays football, and you're still in the championship. Hats
- 14:04Speaker 3: off few, But it just kind of I guess it's
- 14:08Speaker 3: just kind of a rarity to see, Chris, that you
- 14:12Speaker 3: have a team that played for a championship, which is
- 14:14Speaker 3: well deserve for who they've beat to get there, but
- 14:18Speaker 3: they really don't do it in the air at all,
- 14:20Speaker 3: like the Ryley Leonards show. Is he's doing He's doing
- 14:26Speaker 3: his part, because nowadays it's like, dude, you need receivers,
- 14:29Speaker 3: and they really I'm not saying that the receivers are bad,
- 14:32Speaker 3: but if you look at Notaday's highlights, they really don't
- 14:35Speaker 3: throw the ball that much that well, but they keep
- 14:39Speaker 3: winning these games that are the well found two teams,
- 14:41Speaker 3: so you can't rip them too much. But I think
- 14:43Speaker 3: it's just nowadays just kind of it's a different scheme
- 14:45Speaker 3: that I'm used to. Is that a fair way to
- 14:47Speaker 3: say anything.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean if you.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Look at the early parts of Bama's domination under Sabing,
- 14:54Speaker 1: he definitely had like game managers or guys that could
- 14:57Speaker 1: run a little bit, but they ran, ran, ran, play
- 15:00Speaker 1: action all that he'd give.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Him forty forty carries a game with like some of
- 15:03Speaker 3: his horses. You're right, you're right.
- 15:05Speaker 1: But if you look at like t Bow, you know, now,
- 15:08Speaker 1: obviously they had a way more wide receiver.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Talent and just all talent in general. But that type
- 15:13Speaker 2: of vibe.
- 15:15Speaker 1: We've seen that a little bit, but you're right, we
- 15:17Speaker 1: haven't seen it in recent years because usually it's a
- 15:21Speaker 1: pass and run. And the crazy part is, though we
- 15:24Speaker 1: came in saying, you know, Aler probably has a better
- 15:28Speaker 1: arm as far as strength, but he can be very inconsistent.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Whereas Riley was the better runner. I even put it
- 15:35Speaker 1: right here, the better runner, Scrambler just kind of the
- 15:37Speaker 1: better playmaker. And sometimes in college that's the key thing
- 15:42Speaker 1: is having that playmaker. And and what's crazy is, although
- 15:47Speaker 1: you're right as far as getting there, they didn't do
- 15:50Speaker 1: a whole lot of that. When they have like ninety
- 15:52Speaker 1: yards against Georgia through the air something like that, but.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it was pretty low number.
- 15:57Speaker 1: But in this one, though, Marshall, they only had one
- 15:59Speaker 1: hundred and seven teen rushing yards and they had two
- 16:02Speaker 1: sixty seven through the air, so they did actually make
- 16:07Speaker 1: just enough. Leonard had two picks. One of them was
- 16:10Speaker 1: really pretty bad, but you know, they asked them to
- 16:13Speaker 1: throw the ball twenty three times eighteen to thirty five
- 16:16Speaker 1: is really bad. Some of that, as we know, a sacks,
- 16:18Speaker 1: but that that great great house Jayden, Greathhouse seven catches,
- 16:23Speaker 1: Buco five Evans, their tight end Williams, like that was
- 16:28Speaker 1: impressive to me. So they did something that they haven't
- 16:32Speaker 1: been doing. And on the flip side three of eleven
- 16:36Speaker 1: on third down compared to eleven of seventeen by Notre
- 16:41Speaker 1: Dame on third downs a lot of third downs, but
- 16:43Speaker 1: eleven of seventeen is a great percentage really and only
- 16:46Speaker 1: a buck thirty five through the air. So I did
- 16:51Speaker 1: think that they should have maybe at times kept running
- 16:54Speaker 1: a little bit more and really lean into it, kind
- 16:57Speaker 1: of like last or their game before against Bay. But
- 17:02Speaker 1: I thought I thought it kind of came down to
- 17:06Speaker 1: Riley making enough plays with that wide receiver, their defense
- 17:10Speaker 1: stepping up as well at times, but they were getting
- 17:12Speaker 1: ran on a lot man and they made some adjustments.
- 17:16Speaker 1: So credit to Notre Dame, no doubt, But it came
- 17:19Speaker 1: down to that dumb pick where I think you should
- 17:23Speaker 1: still be going for a field goal because of the time.
- 17:27Speaker 1: But but you also but that's on true Aller to
- 17:31Speaker 1: throw that ball. They didn't need it, could have lived
- 17:33Speaker 1: to you know, see another down, just throw it away.
- 17:37Speaker 1: So it was his fault. So if the whole game
- 17:39Speaker 1: kind of anyway, even though Riley had two picks too,
- 17:43Speaker 1: it kind of came down to that pick at the end,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and then instead of getting seven points, you got three
- 17:49Speaker 1: in a in a game in a play that was
- 17:51Speaker 1: schemed open for an easy touchdown. I think those were
- 17:55Speaker 1: the key parts. But yeah, Riley completing passes down the feet.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Just enough, you know, that was key well.
- 18:06Speaker 3: And one of the passes he completed, which the turf
- 18:08Speaker 3: gods were on Notre Dame side. Yeah, when two dudes,
- 18:12Speaker 3: when two dudes break their ankles, like hey, now, in fairness,
- 18:16Speaker 3: fell down, but the safety an Yeah, and the guy
- 18:21Speaker 3: kind of had one of those like hesitation moves, but
- 18:23Speaker 3: it was a good move off the land scrimmage. But
- 18:25Speaker 3: that dB definitely fell. So but again, when you're playing
- 18:29Speaker 3: fernatty like you can't fall like, I know, that's a
- 18:34Speaker 3: good call.
- 18:35Speaker 1: That's a third thing because that was a touchdown too,
- 18:37Speaker 1: So yeah, get I'm glad you brought that up.
- 18:41Speaker 3: And I and I did see off one article off Twitter,
- 18:44Speaker 3: and I'm not sure on hundred percent true, but my
- 18:46Speaker 3: buddy told me that after the game, Allard said that
- 18:48Speaker 3: for that interception at the end, he was trying to
- 18:50Speaker 3: throw the dirt. Obviously he wasn't trying to throw a pick.
- 18:54Speaker 3: But if you were trying to do it, if you're
- 18:57Speaker 3: trying to throw the dirt, why would you ever go
- 18:58Speaker 3: like across your bi cross to build the field like
- 19:00Speaker 3: there are better options as ways to spike the ball
- 19:03Speaker 3: per se, you know, or if you're facing the Minnesota Vikings,
- 19:06Speaker 3: just turn your head down, throw it into alignment's feet
- 19:09Speaker 3: or yards because intentional groundings go on to curve verst
- 19:11Speaker 3: that team. But that's a different end for flick your wrist,
- 19:14Speaker 3: You're good to go. Yeah, flick your wrist and the
- 19:15Speaker 3: ball the ball drop right now, be like.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Son, this is what you're gonna do every time. Yep, yeah,
- 19:23Speaker 2: but uh you know, yeah, you're right that.
- 19:29Speaker 3: That was a big play that the receiver stayed on
- 19:32Speaker 3: his feet and then the pick. I will say the
- 19:34Speaker 3: DV made a hell to catch like that. Yes, that
- 19:36Speaker 3: was a bad pass, but that yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 1: To finish the play. You are right, that's a good point.
- 19:40Speaker 1: It was a bad throw, but good good call and and.
- 19:45Speaker 3: And in all reality, hey, the kicker made the field goal,
- 19:49Speaker 3: like I've we even seeing. I know, I'm big gold
- 19:53Speaker 3: back and forth the NFL at college, but that if
- 19:55Speaker 3: you watch the Tampa Bay Redskins game, Dude, that pro
- 19:58Speaker 3: kicker had to make a thirty six yarder. He shaked
- 20:01Speaker 3: the hell at that ball to hit the goalposts and
- 20:02Speaker 3: duiked in. So like, dude, kickers are NFL or college
- 20:07Speaker 3: unless you're like Vinitary. You know, dude, it is hard
- 20:10Speaker 3: to make kicks in football when the pressures on you.
- 20:13Speaker 3: We've seen it year after year after year. I don't
- 20:15Speaker 3: that like the NFL can't start off hot this year.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Even college kickers now have longer legs. But when the
- 20:21Speaker 3: pressures on you can you make a kick? An Odre
- 20:24Speaker 3: Dame was one of the worst kicking teams in football
- 20:26Speaker 3: this year, So you dude still got to make the
- 20:29Speaker 3: kick and it kind of start off a little bit
- 20:30Speaker 3: to the right to it and it kind of drew in.
- 20:32Speaker 3: So hats off to the kicker. But hey, uh if
- 20:37Speaker 3: if you're if your Penn State, I would I would
- 20:41Speaker 3: say this year was viewed as success. You finally made
- 20:43Speaker 3: the playoffs. Due to the playoff squad, you don't have
- 20:45Speaker 3: to worry. But well, god, we got freaking Michigan House State.
- 20:48Speaker 3: You your resume got you there. He made the final four. Obviously,
- 20:52Speaker 3: the Franklin Bacheers like maybe in for that club or.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Like, dude, you are battles too. He technically you weren't
- 21:00Speaker 1: favor in any of them. But they're really close games too.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You're right there.
- 21:03Speaker 2: You belonged on the field, no doubt you did.
- 21:06Speaker 3: And obviously he lost their top five team again part
- 21:09Speaker 3: but the record stuff, but also Franklin's not expected, nor
- 21:13Speaker 3: is he coach expected to beat every top five team
- 21:15Speaker 3: they played like that's you know, so I would say
- 21:18Speaker 3: Penn State had a pretty damn good season. They'll probably
- 21:22Speaker 3: the way they've been playing, the probably gonna be the
- 21:23Speaker 3: playoff again next year, Like you could assume that's a
- 21:26Speaker 3: logistical chance for them as Notre Dame again. After you
- 21:30Speaker 3: had your hiccup, you had to know that, hey dude,
- 21:33Speaker 3: we can't afford another one, and you have a lost
- 21:35Speaker 3: since I think they won thirteen in the row now
- 21:37Speaker 3: since then, I believe twelve. So hey, they had their
- 21:40Speaker 3: screw up, they figured it out, and they've been on
- 21:42Speaker 3: track since. So hat top thame. If you I wonder
- 21:45Speaker 3: what the to kind of wrap this up, I wonder
- 21:48Speaker 3: what the championship odds were. Philder daim to like win
- 21:52Speaker 3: a win the title. After that week they lost in
- 21:54Speaker 3: Northern Illinois. That probably that probably was a pretty good
- 21:57Speaker 3: Obviously the odds probably came back down as he went
- 21:59Speaker 3: on but if you'd bet Notre Dame to win the
- 22:01Speaker 3: national after that in order Illinois lost, probably got some
- 22:05Speaker 3: pretty sweet odds up there.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Maybe they took it off. They're like, it's just just
- 22:09Speaker 2: too high. He couldn't even risk it. Yeah, so you're
- 22:12Speaker 2: right though that I wonder what that was.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I'll try to find that for next show if I can.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Because I remember, you know, we had Georgia and Ohio State,
- 22:22Speaker 1: and then we had a variety of teams in there.
- 22:25Speaker 1: One of them was Penn State, one of them was
- 22:27Speaker 1: Notre Dame, and we were thinking what the quarterback scenario
- 22:31Speaker 1: gonna look like? Can they will their way to victories
- 22:34Speaker 1: with the quarterback? And like you said, it's funny because
- 22:37Speaker 1: a more established guy prior, you know, coming from Lake
- 22:44Speaker 1: Forest doing his thing and swinging the ball around, it
- 22:47Speaker 1: didn't work. It wasn't a good fit. And then Riley,
- 22:49Speaker 1: who you know, showed moments with Duke no doubt and
- 22:52Speaker 1: showed he was a hell of a college player before
- 22:55Speaker 1: he got hurt, came here and it's like a perfect fit.
- 22:58Speaker 1: So yeah, that is a It is crazy though, and
- 23:01Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, there has been plenty of
- 23:04Speaker 1: teams that have peaked, you know, I mean late than
- 23:08Speaker 1: these two teams have. I remember, you know, Miami losing
- 23:12Speaker 1: their first game to Washington in two thousand and they
- 23:17Speaker 1: won every game after that. They beat Florida State. This
- 23:20Speaker 1: is the BCS first BCS era where in the first
- 23:23Speaker 1: year they didn't have the head to head so Florida State.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Miami beat Florida State, but they but they still put
- 23:30Speaker 1: him into the game against Sooners that one to two.
- 23:34Speaker 1: If Washington or Miami had a case obviously Washington had
- 23:37Speaker 1: case two because they beat Miami.
- 23:39Speaker 3: You know.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Anyway, my point is at the end of that year,
- 23:42Speaker 1: it was like, oh shit, dude, Miami's back and then
- 23:45Speaker 1: they went on just a tear, won a championship, probably
- 23:48Speaker 1: should have won another championship. We won't get into that
- 23:51Speaker 1: speaking of Ohio State, but it does happen. You see
- 23:56Speaker 1: that happen. You see them speaking Ohio State. Actually remember
- 23:58Speaker 1: they lost the Virginia Attack, who I don't think was
- 24:01Speaker 1: ranked at the time. They go all the way through
- 24:05Speaker 1: their schedule, beat the shit out of Wisconsin like fifty
- 24:08Speaker 1: nine to zero or fifty nine to three or something,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and then end up beating BAM in Oregon and win
- 24:13Speaker 1: the championship when you know, so who knows, man, I'm
- 24:18Speaker 1: really you know, before we fought against the twelve team
- 24:22Speaker 1: just because of when they decided it, the NLI and
- 24:26Speaker 1: the transport hadn't kicked in all the way, hence the
- 24:31Speaker 1: five conference champions That decision was made when there was
- 24:35Speaker 1: five power conferences. So yeah, man, it's just crazy that
- 24:40Speaker 1: it really shows you the depth we've been talking about
- 24:43Speaker 1: for the last couple of years. But for the fifth
- 24:45Speaker 1: and sixth rated team to be in the championship, it sure,
- 24:49Speaker 1: you know, says a lot. And let's get to the
- 24:51Speaker 1: Ohio State Texas game. Will Howard came out freaking sharp
- 24:56Speaker 1: and they were like, oh, you're just gonna bracket and
- 24:59Speaker 1: double and and really try to take Jeremiah.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Out of it. No problem.
- 25:03Speaker 1: We got Tate, we got you know why whyde receiver
- 25:06Speaker 1: the tight end. Scott's starting to do his thing. So
- 25:10Speaker 1: he came out sharp. I thought Ohio State probably could
- 25:14Speaker 1: have been up ten zip fourteen zip if it wasn't
- 25:17Speaker 1: for that Henderson penalty, so that you know, that was
- 25:21Speaker 1: a little bit of issue there.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Texas kind of struck back, got back into it. Howard
- 25:27Speaker 2: like forces.
- 25:27Speaker 1: A uh well, actually that I think, Yeah, he forced
- 25:32Speaker 1: the I later though, but he kind of you know,
- 25:35Speaker 1: they they got back into it right at the end
- 25:37Speaker 1: of the half. It was a grinded I mean, to
- 25:39Speaker 1: have nine combined, like I think it was nine straight
- 25:44Speaker 1: punts after that seven zero is like, holy shit, dude,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I really didn't expect this. And to have a nice
- 25:52Speaker 1: drive right it near the end it was seven to seven,
- 25:56Speaker 1: You're like, okay, dude, you know that was key. They
- 25:59Speaker 1: really need to get in this game. In one place
- 26:02Speaker 1: seventy five yards, you have a corner that's blitzing with
- 26:06Speaker 1: that kind of you know, with that kind of time
- 26:08Speaker 1: on the clock's a little funky, and next thing you know,
- 26:12Speaker 1: it's fourteen to seven. But you know, they came out
- 26:16Speaker 1: and that's where Howard I think, right around midfield forced
- 26:20Speaker 1: an I int and that's when they they're like, you
- 26:22Speaker 1: know what, we're trying to now force it to Jeremiah
- 26:25Speaker 1: because all that sharpness started going out of the window
- 26:28Speaker 1: because he was forcing a couple of balls. You're like, dude,
- 26:31Speaker 1: that's pretty close. That could have been a pick. And
- 26:34Speaker 1: that happened a couple of times that it ended up happening.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Now they didn't do anything with it, but they were
- 26:39Speaker 1: able to, you know, tighten up defensively, and all of
- 26:42Speaker 1: a sudden, twelve play sixty seven yards. It's all tied up,
- 26:47Speaker 1: fourteen fourteen, and you know, they exchanged punts. It looked like, man,
- 26:53Speaker 1: we might be going to overtime. Almost you had Ohio
- 26:57Speaker 1: State with a thirteen play drive eighty eight yard.
- 27:00Speaker 2: It's almost eight minutes.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I was like, wow, do they have that fourth And
- 27:05Speaker 1: to Howard run where the turf monster got to him.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I did like how Texas was finding a way to
- 27:13Speaker 1: run in pass they were throwing to Blue and Weisner
- 27:19Speaker 1: out of the backfield. They weren't able to run overall,
- 27:22Speaker 1: but there was that moment where they did break off
- 27:24Speaker 1: a couple of nice chunk runs and then you're like,
- 27:29Speaker 1: all right, twenty one to fourteen, and then it happens.
- 27:33Speaker 1: And we talked about red zone a lot this year
- 27:37Speaker 1: heading into this game, but you know, the whole year
- 27:40Speaker 1: red zone, I mean red zone. Ohio State defense is
- 27:43Speaker 1: one thing, right, but Texas has been struggling in.
- 27:47Speaker 2: The red zone.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And sure enough, although a drive that would have tied it,
- 27:53Speaker 1: you know, it went completely the opposite way. And next thing,
- 27:56Speaker 1: you know, it's a scoop and score and it's pretty
- 27:59Speaker 1: much a wrap.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, just opinions of just how literally
- 28:06Speaker 3: talking to co workers that following day just to kind
- 28:08Speaker 3: of start with that red zone defense, you know, and
- 28:12Speaker 3: obviously it's not as simple as hey, just you're on
- 28:15Speaker 3: the one yard line, run up the middle four times. Well,
- 28:18Speaker 3: if football is that simple, like everyone, you know, like
- 28:21Speaker 3: maybe the d lines really effing good. But one of
- 28:24Speaker 3: my co workers saying, dude, why do you why do
- 28:26Speaker 3: you do a sweep? Like why do you pitch them
- 28:28Speaker 3: all back four to five yards? Or that's like my
- 28:30Speaker 3: best friend Line says, why do NFL teams do shotgun
- 28:33Speaker 3: on fourth and one? Or college teams? Like you know,
- 28:35Speaker 3: sometimes logistically like I get that any like that, I agree, Yeah,
- 28:41Speaker 3: So it just does make you shake your head, like
- 28:45Speaker 3: you know, sometimes just try a quarterback sneak for three
- 28:48Speaker 3: plays and try and have back dive like when you
- 28:50Speaker 3: when when they when Texas tried to do that pitch
- 28:55Speaker 3: when you pitch them all of them running back, he's
- 28:57Speaker 3: out of the six yard line and he's tried. Okay,
- 28:59Speaker 3: you might get the it's like corrible if he doesn't.
- 29:02Speaker 3: So you go from first to goal on the one
- 29:04Speaker 3: or two, and now you got second down, you do
- 29:07Speaker 3: the pitch. Now you're third and goal from the seven. Well, damn,
- 29:10Speaker 3: we're just on the one, you know, So why do
- 29:13Speaker 3: you call that pitch and mate? Yes, obviously Ohio State
- 29:17Speaker 3: has good detackles, okay, but if you try to go
- 29:19Speaker 3: up the middle or try to go off tackle, you're
- 29:21Speaker 3: still at worst they probably tacking on the two or
- 29:24Speaker 3: three on the seven. Now, the running back dive is
- 29:29Speaker 3: pretty much off the off the play sheet, right, you know,
- 29:32Speaker 3: could a team do a seven yard run for sure,
- 29:35Speaker 3: but as a coordinator're probably gonna call that. So the
- 29:38Speaker 3: play card was a bit strange, you know, it didn't
- 29:41Speaker 3: quite make sense. And obviously to have the scoop and
- 29:45Speaker 3: score like do that, that's just the hell of a
- 29:48Speaker 3: play like that. That dude and people beloving on him
- 29:51Speaker 3: the whole playoffs. He's kind of been their verbal leader.
- 29:54Speaker 3: He was the guy who's pissed off when Michigan tried
- 29:56Speaker 3: plants in the flag like that. Sawyer like he he
- 29:59Speaker 3: must be their guy. He's a lie, He's the middle linebacker.
- 30:01Speaker 3: He's the hard soul of the defense. Due made it
- 30:04Speaker 3: f and play, So props to him, but obviously you know,
- 30:07Speaker 3: Stark probably regrets the the pitch of the suite, but hell.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Especially you know, I'm not I thought yours should be
- 30:14Speaker 1: the starter, but this whole year, but Manning, you know,
- 30:19Speaker 1: try try two runs with Manning potentially, you know.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, do something, but you know, logistically, keep it
- 30:25Speaker 3: to where you're going downhill and that sideways.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You know, I will say the defense that they were
- 30:31Speaker 1: playing in the in the coordinator even said it after
- 30:35Speaker 1: a game or actually this week when they talked about
- 30:38Speaker 1: let's go over the whole four downs. You know, sure,
- 30:41Speaker 1: excuse me. He said that on first down we stuffed.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Him right, didn't get anywhere.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Really, second down they had the same defense and it
- 30:52Speaker 1: did lead then susceptible to that type of play, but
- 30:57Speaker 1: they had especially downs.
- 30:59Speaker 2: But another dude in there.
- 31:00Speaker 1: They both read it really quick, and maybe that's I
- 31:04Speaker 1: also hear people maybe once you see someone getting positioned,
- 31:07Speaker 1: maybe just call a time out. Sure you know that
- 31:10Speaker 1: that's fair. If it works, people say, oh, that's genius.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You could also say you weren't gonna get anywhere. But
- 31:17Speaker 1: I understand, like, let's say a second down, you lose.
- 31:20Speaker 2: A yard or two.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Well then you just passed the last two downs. No
- 31:23Speaker 1: big deal, yeah, because now you're at the three or
- 31:25Speaker 1: four or five whatever. But I know what you're saying
- 31:28Speaker 1: about that it really has to work because you're sitting
- 31:32Speaker 1: there pitching it like that. And you know, I mean,
- 31:37Speaker 1: Down's made a freaking crazy play though, too. I mean
- 31:40Speaker 1: you just got Yeah, he's everywhere, man, he's their safety, linebacker.
- 31:44Speaker 1: You can be in coverage. He's just all over the place.
- 31:46Speaker 1: But yeah, and right when I saw Sawyer coming around
- 31:50Speaker 1: the edge, it's like it's overdude, but like, yeah, for
- 31:53Speaker 1: it to bounce up right in his hands and him
- 31:56Speaker 1: he even said that he thought he's gonna die on
- 31:58Speaker 1: the run. You know, He's like that can't trip, Like Howard,
- 32:02Speaker 1: I'm not gonna trip.
- 32:03Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, and yeah, it was funny to watch that.
- 32:07Speaker 1: But play all of the way to end the game
- 32:10Speaker 1: and cover and all that, and that that was crazy, man,
- 32:12Speaker 1: That was that was pretty climanthic. Obviously, everybody wants to
- 32:15Speaker 1: see an overtime game, of course besides Oh State fans.
- 32:18Speaker 2: But if you get that, that's pretty cool too.
- 32:22Speaker 1: But they have had red zone issues, so maybe that's
- 32:26Speaker 1: part of it. You know, they don't run the ball
- 32:28Speaker 1: that well, you know, and we all know that goal line.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Ohio State is nasty in the last two years has
- 32:36Speaker 1: been nasty. So remember the Penn State game, like they've
- 32:39Speaker 1: had it. Yeah, the Illinois Illinois game ship Michigan. They
- 32:44Speaker 1: made a ton of plays in that Michigan game, you know,
- 32:48Speaker 1: because it could have been worse.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Actually, their offense just didn't deliver.
- 32:52Speaker 1: So yeah, you're right, he kind of wanted to do
- 32:55Speaker 1: it again, but go ahead, what's that.
- 32:57Speaker 3: You're right, and you're right, this safety didn't make it
- 32:59Speaker 3: hold play that pitch, So maybe if you did that
- 33:01Speaker 3: pitch again in another game, they score, you know, So
- 33:03Speaker 3: that props out to the guy you said. Uh, but
- 33:07Speaker 3: just for kind of like not a but kind of
- 33:08Speaker 3: like a minus or a check of the wrong call.
- 33:13Speaker 3: I do and maybe I'm not giving Texas stuff defensive credit,
- 33:17Speaker 3: but these are two teams I don't really consider as
- 33:19Speaker 3: like fan base and vine. And also I'm pretty neutral
- 33:21Speaker 3: on hatred here, but I do think that Ohio State
- 33:25Speaker 3: got pretty conservative, Like this isn't an offense that will
- 33:30Speaker 3: like move up down the field against two really f
- 33:33Speaker 3: and good teams in Tennessee and Oregon, But for like
- 33:37Speaker 3: that second and third quarter, it was like one yard
- 33:40Speaker 3: wide receiver, screen wide receiver, screen like tunnel, like dive pass,
- 33:45Speaker 3: quick street, quick screen, quick stream, like everything was just
- 33:48Speaker 3: really like one of two are players and it's like, dude,
- 33:51Speaker 3: this is an offense that in cold weather embarrass Tennessee
- 33:55Speaker 3: move the ball relentlessly against Oregon like it almost to
- 33:59Speaker 3: me felt like and I'm not a fan of either,
- 34:01Speaker 3: but it was like, was Brian Kelly have like Michigan flashbacks?
- 34:05Speaker 3: Like the offense really did kind of sputter, And obviously
- 34:08Speaker 3: I was betting Ohio State, so I'm happy they covered,
- 34:10Speaker 3: and I'm happy about Slayer's play, but so obviously you
- 34:13Speaker 3: watch the game with maybe more focused but I really
- 34:16Speaker 3: felt that just you saw an offense like just kind
- 34:19Speaker 3: of like sput her out a bit, which really had
- 34:21Speaker 3: n't for the past seven quarters. Now to your point,
- 34:23Speaker 3: that personal foul headbut really did kind of change the
- 34:27Speaker 3: momentum of the game. Because I'm with you, I think
- 34:29Speaker 3: if he doesn't have the headbutt, they're they'd probably get
- 34:32Speaker 3: up fourteen to zero and maybe they do run him
- 34:33Speaker 3: out the gym, but with a couple of dumb penalties
- 34:36Speaker 3: in Ohio State. Maybe being a little charis, I just
- 34:39Speaker 3: really thought he got conservative. So I was just kind
- 34:42Speaker 3: of surprised by that. Obviously, if you're Notre Dame, you're
- 34:45Speaker 3: gonna want that. You don't want to get a shootout
- 34:47Speaker 3: with Ohio State, you want that more in term of play.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Call it again, I maybe I'm not an ex's an
- 34:54Speaker 3: old guy. Maybe I do deserve to give Texas a
- 34:57Speaker 3: lot of credit. Maybe the way their secondary coverage we're
- 35:00Speaker 3: playing to take away the deep balls. They were also,
- 35:04Speaker 3: like he said, not just that one penalty, but there
- 35:07Speaker 3: was like three, two or three holding penalties. One of
- 35:10Speaker 3: the holding penalties came on of play that was gonna
- 35:13Speaker 3: lose just a couple of yards, and it was kind
- 35:15Speaker 3: of a worthless hold, meaning you could have just lived
- 35:19Speaker 3: another down. You didn't need to add ten yards, you know,
- 35:22Speaker 3: to a second and third down. So I think a
- 35:25Speaker 3: lot of that had to do with them being third
- 35:27Speaker 3: and long. So I wouldn't.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Necessarily say conservative. Because the Michigan game, they kept trying
- 35:32Speaker 1: to run up the gut. That was what was stupid
- 35:36Speaker 1: about the game plan. I thought they should have kept
- 35:38Speaker 1: running more because those safeties were playing back so I
- 35:43Speaker 1: don't think that the game plan really because they were
- 35:46Speaker 1: giving them left and right. I mean they were, they
- 35:49Speaker 1: just shut some of it down because to start that game,
- 35:52Speaker 1: Howard was sharp, dude, I mean he was fitting these
- 35:55Speaker 1: balls in. So maybe it's somewhere in between, but I
- 35:59Speaker 1: wasn't said that. I think that they were overly conservative there.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I think Texas did a good job too, maybe just
- 36:05Speaker 1: I guess that's somewhere in between.
- 36:06Speaker 3: That that's very because he had he had like three
- 36:09Speaker 3: passes and the triple coverage start of the game, and
- 36:11Speaker 3: I was like, holy shit, like dude, he's locked in.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Then he got a little silly with it, you know,
- 36:15Speaker 1: because there's a couple where you're like, okay, dude.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Hold on, man, what are you doing? You know, and
- 36:20Speaker 2: then he tried to force the Jeremiah Smith.
- 36:23Speaker 3: True and I guess kind of my last key main point,
- 36:26Speaker 3: big play and we're kind of going to reverse. That's fine, Uh,
- 36:30Speaker 3: but was for me was obviously was before halftime, like dude,
- 36:34Speaker 3: you finally had a good drive, like your offense had
- 36:36Speaker 3: been struggling, like viewers had just they finally pieced it together. Okay,
- 36:42Speaker 3: and then you know, much like Arizona State fans prior
- 36:45Speaker 3: to regret, you know, send the full out blitz on
- 36:48Speaker 3: fourth and two Texas. Texas has to regret that. Like
- 36:55Speaker 3: there but yeah, and and as the I think has
- 36:58Speaker 3: herb Street said, a couple of the other podcast set
- 37:00Speaker 3: out a lot of people said it like, dude, when
- 37:03Speaker 3: that guy caught the ball, so you had a cord plus,
- 37:06Speaker 3: but we also they were in a deep prevent Dude,
- 37:08Speaker 3: you gave that guy. I'm sorry, I'm right back, but
- 37:12Speaker 3: you gave him a full head of.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Four to three something.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Yes, So ye had Henderson going full board like fifty
- 37:20Speaker 3: yards for a guy was near him, and he had
- 37:22Speaker 3: two or three linemen who were like in a brigade. Like, dude,
- 37:26Speaker 3: that was a play call where you're like you're oho
- 37:28Speaker 3: to State, You're like, or if you're Texas, you're like,
- 37:30Speaker 3: ah shit, we have that up. Because I remember watching
- 37:33Speaker 3: it live, I was like in my head like when
- 37:35Speaker 3: I'm like, where's the defense, Like I know that I
- 37:38Speaker 3: know you screen pass everly break it, but like where's
- 37:41Speaker 3: the safety or where where's the other DV is like, dude,
- 37:44Speaker 3: once you once you saw him get past that first
- 37:47Speaker 3: crew is like, oh shit, he's gone. And then as
- 37:50Speaker 3: the football fans kind of hits you of like what
- 37:53Speaker 3: did they call? Like because you've seen you've seen teams
- 37:56Speaker 3: do those screenplays, but it's like, okay, well, you know
- 37:58Speaker 3: they got guys back or someone's got back to their chilling.
- 38:02Speaker 3: There there was no chilling. I I watched the replay.
- 38:05Speaker 3: There was one player on Texas trying to leap frog
- 38:09Speaker 3: over his teammate, like you saw that dude jump over
- 38:11Speaker 3: short Pats hit his buddy's held out with his legs
- 38:13Speaker 3: like that was And.
- 38:15Speaker 2: There was a lot of on Jeremiah too. Smith.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Yeah, so that was as well as moments for obviously
- 38:21Speaker 3: could they they easily still could have won the game
- 38:24Speaker 3: if they do a quarterback seat with Maddy and on
- 38:26Speaker 3: that first and goal they go to te who knows
- 38:28Speaker 3: what happens, But that was the.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Remember they'd also have the ball of like two minutes
- 38:33Speaker 2: to play.
- 38:34Speaker 3: True.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's crazy that they were able to
- 38:39Speaker 1: win a game with Jeremiah Smith only getting one catch
- 38:42Speaker 1: from three.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Yes again, I I yeah, as much as I think
- 38:50Speaker 3: kind of you know, in my opinion, I think Ohio
- 38:52Speaker 3: States play calling got a little less aggressive than I
- 38:54Speaker 3: would have expected. You gotta give Ohouse Texas credit for
- 38:58Speaker 3: a shutting down a guy who literally had been going
- 39:01Speaker 3: off so far, and Bettery Verrowe said, hey, you shut
- 39:04Speaker 3: down our stud receiver. Okay, cool, we can still beat you.
- 39:08Speaker 3: So there was just a handful of big plays. Obviously
- 39:11Speaker 3: the scoop and score was the biggest, you know, the one.
- 39:16Speaker 3: I guess my last point for Texas will be you
- 39:18Speaker 3: did hear people kind of go back and forth about
- 39:20Speaker 3: Manny all year, But to Sark's credit, I will like
- 39:23Speaker 3: to say, if he was like the better quarterback, like
- 39:28Speaker 3: I felt that, Sark would have probably would have played
- 39:30Speaker 3: him like there was nothing. There was nothing since and said, dude,
- 39:32Speaker 3: hearers is our guy for the rest of you, no
- 39:34Speaker 3: matter what. Like I just I think good, Yeah, I
- 39:40Speaker 3: think Man's gonna have potential. But I it Stark, you know,
- 39:43Speaker 3: I'm I think the guy's a good coach. I don't
- 39:47Speaker 3: rip him often, but people are like, do I just
- 39:49Speaker 3: play well? The coach sees those guys every day, and
- 39:53Speaker 3: I do feel that if if he had surpassed Manny,
- 39:56Speaker 3: he probably been starting in the game or would have
- 39:58Speaker 3: started later in the year. So viewers did have the
- 40:01Speaker 3: best game but again, I think if Maddy was heads
- 40:03Speaker 3: and shoulders above better and he would have played. So
- 40:06Speaker 3: clearly he's probably he has potential. He's got a last
- 40:09Speaker 3: name for sure, But I don't think that you know,
- 40:12Speaker 3: he is, Yeah, I just I guess I've heard a
- 40:16Speaker 3: coupleple say, well, you should have played Mandy. Well, dude,
- 40:18Speaker 3: I don't think so, because they probably those guys are smart,
- 40:21Speaker 3: they want to win, you know day, So I don't
- 40:23Speaker 3: I mean seeing him.
- 40:24Speaker 1: People forget he played Mississippi State and then you know,
- 40:28Speaker 1: not anybody in the SEC. Yeah, the games he played,
- 40:32Speaker 1: you know so, and he had a game where you're like, oh,
- 40:35Speaker 1: you know, I don't know.
- 40:36Speaker 2: I think that's ridiculous to be honest. Yet now putting
- 40:39Speaker 2: him in in that game.
- 40:41Speaker 1: For especially packages, yeah that's cool sure, But other than that,
- 40:46Speaker 1: I don't know. And then also just sum it up,
- 40:48Speaker 1: we do have to get into this prediction though, But
- 40:51Speaker 1: Penn State, right, they have. I think Drew Allard made
- 40:56Speaker 1: a great decision to come back, right. I don't think
- 40:59Speaker 1: he's ready for who knows what they'll ever be ready
- 41:01Speaker 1: for it. But the thing about him is he's a
- 41:04Speaker 1: combined guy. You know, his pro day is gonna look
- 41:07Speaker 1: good Marshall, and you know he's gonna get drafted in
- 41:10Speaker 1: the first round one likely when he comes out just
- 41:14Speaker 1: because of the size and the somebody will think they
- 41:17Speaker 1: can fix them or whatever, you know, or develop them.
- 41:20Speaker 1: But I'm glad he's coming back. I think that's a
- 41:23Speaker 1: key thing in both of their backs that both went
- 41:26Speaker 1: over one thousand this year, are coming back. Carter is
- 41:31Speaker 1: not coming back because he's like a top ten pick,
- 41:34Speaker 1: but sure at thirty three. I can't remember his name
- 41:37Speaker 1: right now, but he's coming back. They're key linebacker and
- 41:40Speaker 1: safety's coming back. So they are bringing back a lot
- 41:45Speaker 1: of talent next year. So obviously wide receiver they're gonna
- 41:48Speaker 1: have to get one. You know, they do good at
- 41:51Speaker 1: tight ends. Obviously they're gonna lose their tight end, but
- 41:53Speaker 1: they need wide receivers as well, because they threw five
- 41:57Speaker 1: times to the wide receivers no catches in this.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Game, so that's a problem. But I really like that.
- 42:04Speaker 1: And I'm not trying to compare him to Ohio State
- 42:07Speaker 1: in Michigan, but that's exactly what if you think about
- 42:10Speaker 1: Michigan made a step right, They made a step in
- 42:14Speaker 1: the right direction, then they made another step and got
- 42:17Speaker 1: to the semifinals where they should have beat TCU. Then
- 42:21Speaker 1: they went and won the championship, but they brought back
- 42:23Speaker 1: a lot of people from that team to go and
- 42:27Speaker 1: then Ohio State this year. A lot of people talk
- 42:30Speaker 1: about whatever their number is a high number for their roster,
- 42:34Speaker 1: but they act like they went out with the shopping
- 42:36Speaker 1: cart and got everybody on that money. A lot of
- 42:39Speaker 1: it was keeping guys. It wasn't just oh, we're gonna
- 42:43Speaker 1: pick this guy that guy like to have eight new
- 42:45Speaker 1: starters or ten new starters. A lot of that was
- 42:48Speaker 1: homegrown and they spent that money to keep them too.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Howard was very much a question mark if they made.
- 42:56Speaker 1: The right move. I don't think people remember that. Imagine
- 43:01Speaker 1: this team with cam Ward. Imagine Ohio State with cam Ward.
- 43:07Speaker 1: That would be ridiculous and they wouldn't have lost the
- 43:10Speaker 1: Michigan but anyway, so so look for Penn State too.
- 43:16Speaker 1: It's a big year next year. Let's just put it
- 43:18Speaker 1: that way for them. And there is gonna be pressure
- 43:20Speaker 1: with that because they have a lot of guys coming back,
- 43:23Speaker 1: and that's kind of what this money in this there's
- 43:26Speaker 1: negative shirt, but there's a lot of positives and for
- 43:30Speaker 1: you to be able to keep your team coming back
- 43:32Speaker 1: and guys that could go early.
- 43:34Speaker 2: But there it's all about the team. That's pretty fucking
- 43:37Speaker 2: big deal. And that's a positive.
- 43:40Speaker 1: You know, in there a lot of people only want
- 43:44Speaker 1: to talk about the negatives. But let's get into it though. Okay,
- 43:50Speaker 1: Notre Dame has been on a tear since you could
- 43:53Speaker 1: question who they've played besides like Georgia and Penn State,
- 43:58Speaker 1: but even you know, Georgia, just not the Georgia we
- 44:01Speaker 1: know when Penn State is still trying to get over
- 44:03Speaker 1: the hump. But they keep winning and they keep doing
- 44:06Speaker 1: it old school, and they got a great defense, they
- 44:10Speaker 1: got a playmaking you know, quarterback they love looked pretty
- 44:16Speaker 1: good compared to House, you know, with the brace and
- 44:18Speaker 1: all that, you know, compared to how he looked. He man,
- 44:21Speaker 1: he definitely wasn't one hundred percent, but he looked pretty good.
- 44:23Speaker 1: And now he's gonna get another nine days or ten
- 44:25Speaker 1: days the rest, so hopefully he comes back looking good.
- 44:28Speaker 2: But I mean, there's a couple of things.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I'll start on the Notre Dame side, and I'll let you,
- 44:35Speaker 1: you know, chime in and whatnot and do your thing.
- 44:38Speaker 2: But Notre Dame Marshall plays a lot of one on
- 44:42Speaker 2: one in the secondary. Will they hold up against I
- 44:50Speaker 2: mean one on one the whole pretty much a good
- 44:53Speaker 2: chunk of the time. Will they hold up? I don't know.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Oregon played a lot and they got a diced Now
- 45:03Speaker 1: will they bracket and double Jeremiah Smith? Sometime I've heard
- 45:08Speaker 1: some people say, well, if they do kind of a
- 45:10Speaker 1: combination of both, that could trouble Howard a little bit,
- 45:14Speaker 1: because well, shit, which is it. Are they you know,
- 45:17Speaker 1: bracketing or are they not? Or so maybe they can
- 45:19Speaker 1: play that. But if they have the safety's deep to
- 45:24Speaker 1: tread like Texas did, they got to run the ball
- 45:29Speaker 1: and they have you know, Ohio State has or sorry,
- 45:33Speaker 1: Penn State has two great backs, but Ohio State they're
- 45:37Speaker 1: they're up a notch from that too.
- 45:39Speaker 2: They're backs.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Now, you could say that Penn State was built more
- 45:44Speaker 1: to run even more because they averaged two hundred yards
- 45:47Speaker 1: rather than like a buck sixty something from Ohio State.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And maybe their line is built to run block better.
- 45:54Speaker 1: We know there's been you know, multiple injuries actually on
- 45:58Speaker 1: both offensive lines in this game. But the Ohio State
- 46:03Speaker 1: in that three weeks tightened up and they were able.
- 46:06Speaker 1: They didn't look as bad as they had previously. So
- 46:09Speaker 1: but so can they keep running because like I said,
- 46:12Speaker 1: if it's one on one and there's deep safeties, if
- 46:15Speaker 1: there's deep safeties, you gotta run more. Because when you
- 46:18Speaker 1: put up over two hundred yards rushing like Penn State,
- 46:21Speaker 1: did you know, I think that's gonna be interesting. Obviously,
- 46:26Speaker 1: Notre Dame has to get pressure on Howard. If you're
- 46:30Speaker 1: gonna play even forty one on one, you better you
- 46:36Speaker 1: better get pressure. And so, you know, Notre Dame on offense,
- 46:43Speaker 1: you know, one lineman is out.
- 46:45Speaker 2: One lineman.
- 46:46Speaker 1: It sounds like we'll play will will he be healthy
- 46:48Speaker 1: all the way?
- 46:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Offensively, they need to run as well, just enough maybe
- 46:56Speaker 1: they can go keep going back to that that tight
- 46:59Speaker 1: end a little bit. There was some weaknesses that Texas
- 47:04Speaker 1: showed out of throwing the ball to the running backs.
- 47:07Speaker 2: They have They can do that, that's for damn sure.
- 47:12Speaker 1: But I think both backs, you know, I wrote it
- 47:16Speaker 1: down about one hundred to one hundred and thirty ish.
- 47:19Speaker 1: If they can do that, Ridley Leonard into two backs,
- 47:23Speaker 1: if they can get anywhere from one hundred to one
- 47:25Speaker 1: hundred and thirty yards rushing.
- 47:26Speaker 2: I think that's needed. Obviously, Leonard can't turn the ball over.
- 47:30Speaker 1: I do think he's gonna have to do something like
- 47:34Speaker 1: at least one hundred and fifty or two hundred yards
- 47:36Speaker 1: passing too. He's gonna have to make some key passes.
- 47:40Speaker 1: But that first question that I was talking about a
- 47:43Speaker 1: lot of people to talk about. Marshall and I have
- 47:47Speaker 1: some more stuff that will break down on the Ohio
- 47:49Speaker 1: state side, of course.
- 47:50Speaker 2: But.
- 47:53Speaker 1: I mean, would you I know you've played it pretty
- 47:55Speaker 1: much the whole year. If you're not a dame right
- 47:58Speaker 1: to a t, but you've played USC and Louisville are
- 48:02Speaker 1: probably the best passing offense wide receivers you faced. They're
- 48:07Speaker 1: not on this level. So do you do you do
- 48:10Speaker 1: you keep doing what what brought you know, what got
- 48:13Speaker 1: you here? Or do you adjust? Because uh, one on
- 48:17Speaker 1: one all day, I just don't know it.
- 48:19Speaker 2: That's a good idea.
- 48:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that dude, I think you're playing with fire. I
- 48:27Speaker 3: think you have some wide receivers that if you want
- 48:30Speaker 3: to try to just go a man the man, which
- 48:32Speaker 3: you get I know you can't. You can't change your DNA,
- 48:36Speaker 3: but you're you're uh, well a couple of deep passes,
- 48:41Speaker 3: you know, and again to Texas's credit, they did play
- 48:45Speaker 3: some pretty good defense, and Will Howard made some passes
- 48:47Speaker 3: where he threw in triple coverage. If he tries to
- 48:49Speaker 3: give maybe those things get picked off. So I do
- 48:53Speaker 3: think maybe if you are and I'm sure they will
- 48:56Speaker 3: if you are Notre Dame because I don't care fews
- 49:00Speaker 3: of schools here, maybe you do watch that Texas film
- 49:02Speaker 3: and say, okay, well, what did they do the limits
- 49:04Speaker 3: passing game? What can we do with copy that? Obviously
- 49:06Speaker 3: all the teams are built differently and coaches coach differently.
- 49:08Speaker 3: But in theory, yeah, but if you're gonna guard number four,
- 49:14Speaker 3: man the man, hey, dude, Will Howards are gonna take
- 49:17Speaker 3: some shots and someone's gonna drop. And it's not just
- 49:21Speaker 3: number four either, So I think you know what I mean,
- 49:25Speaker 3: go with what got you to the dance, Chris? But yeah, uh,
- 49:28Speaker 3: And to your point, and I've watched enough football learn this,
- 49:31Speaker 3: even from like the Manding cast, because they remember way
- 49:33Speaker 3: have football game. They were talking about this like, well,
- 49:35Speaker 3: if you see the safety is too high up or
- 49:37Speaker 3: too far back, run the ball, run the ball, run
- 49:39Speaker 3: the ball. And they literally talked about that for a
- 49:41Speaker 3: whole drive, and you know, obviously they made it sound
- 49:44Speaker 3: like they made it more logical. It was like like
- 49:46Speaker 3: football guru termas it was like, dude, when I was quarterback,
- 49:49Speaker 3: if I saw safeties that far back, I'd run the
- 49:51Speaker 3: ball until they change their minds exactly. And so maybe
- 49:55Speaker 3: you do have five yard grun, five yard grun, six
- 49:57Speaker 3: yard run, five yard grun five year maybe they say
- 49:59Speaker 3: you just so, maybe your drive is going to take longer.
- 50:03Speaker 2: But later too, you know, yeah.
- 50:09Speaker 3: And eventually that defensive coordinator is gonna be like, dude,
- 50:12Speaker 3: I can't have five yeard run, five yeard run, five
- 50:15Speaker 3: year growd. My defense lines get tired. So then you
- 50:17Speaker 3: do cheat safety's up and once he cheat saves up
- 50:19Speaker 3: booming over the top. So obviously I do think you're
- 50:24Speaker 3: kind of in a tight spot there. To give Notre
- 50:27Speaker 3: Dame credit, I think their defense is the strongest suit
- 50:30Speaker 3: of their team. That defense is pretty often good. They've
- 50:33Speaker 3: proven it throughout the whole year. I think they have
- 50:36Speaker 3: a coach that the players buy into in love. I
- 50:39Speaker 3: know that first year there he had a couple of
- 50:41Speaker 3: rough losses with Marshall, and you know it's like, well,
- 50:43Speaker 3: do your takeover right now?
- 50:46Speaker 1: If we go back, there's a lot of tweets that
- 50:48Speaker 1: got you know, deleted if we go back to week two. Yeah,
- 50:53Speaker 1: so all these coaches have really gotten a lot of
- 50:55Speaker 1: criticism ever since they take it over.
- 50:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Yes, Uh, but I think Freeman's proven that he's pretty
- 51:04Speaker 3: damn good. Yeah, hey he's got, he's got already has
- 51:09Speaker 3: like six six wins versus like top five teams in
- 51:11Speaker 3: this first couple of years there. So he's proven he's
- 51:14Speaker 3: a big game coach. But yeah, how do you slid
- 51:16Speaker 3: down that offense? I do think that Texas did it well,
- 51:20Speaker 3: but if I was a betting man, I would like
- 51:21Speaker 3: to bet on the Ohio State team total over again
- 51:24Speaker 3: because my gut tells me that, hey, you're giving a
- 51:27Speaker 3: team totally bad prepared again, I think they're gonna find
- 51:29Speaker 3: ways to score like that, I promise you. Tennessee tried,
- 51:34Speaker 3: and Oregon tried. Texas did really well, but I would
- 51:37Speaker 3: still venture to think that Ohio State is gonna be
- 51:40Speaker 3: scoring a little more frequently again, even if Notre Dame
- 51:43Speaker 3: plays a solid game. So uh yeah, if you're gonna play, man,
- 51:46Speaker 3: just be prepared. And if you again. Ohio State has
- 51:50Speaker 3: two legit good running backs. So hey, if Henderson and
- 51:53Speaker 3: Johnkins are gonna run the ball down your throat, cool,
- 51:56Speaker 3: Ohio State will take one that way with the national title,
- 51:58Speaker 3: that's fine, and then a Notre Dame standpoint. Man, I
- 52:05Speaker 3: you just gotta find ways to get it out. Uh.
- 52:10Speaker 3: I know that Penn State's secondary is probably pretty similar
- 52:15Speaker 3: to Ohio States, you know. I uh but I just say, yeah, yeah,
- 52:23Speaker 3: you know, but they're they're they're good.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 52:26Speaker 3: I do think it's gonna be kN Riley Leonard have
- 52:28Speaker 3: those third third and one third and two down runs
- 52:31Speaker 3: like he's done that for the past two games. It's like, dude,
- 52:34Speaker 3: I need we need a big play. Okay, what's the
- 52:36Speaker 3: big play? Shotgun Letter and he'll find a first down?
- 52:40Speaker 3: Like so, who's gonna be trying to stop that? Probably
- 52:43Speaker 3: that guy named Swire? Like that would be kind of
- 52:45Speaker 3: a fun matchup. See how Simmer and letterd feed off
- 52:47Speaker 3: each other, because I'm sure Sward is gonna have to
- 52:50Speaker 3: spy Letter a couple of times or something like that.
- 52:52Speaker 3: So can Riley Letard make those plays with his knees?
- 52:55Speaker 3: He's done the whole playoff. He's good at it. He
- 52:57Speaker 3: really is. Obviously how State knows that if I know
- 53:01Speaker 3: what they do?
- 53:01Speaker 2: Uh?
- 53:02Speaker 3: But if if the Ridley Leonard clutch plays don't go down,
- 53:07Speaker 3: what's your backup?
- 53:08Speaker 2: Like?
- 53:09Speaker 3: What if Ohio State loads the box? Like? What you know?
- 53:11Speaker 3: If love isn't completely healthy? I just I just think
- 53:14Speaker 3: that Ohio State defense has gonna be pretty damn good.
- 53:17Speaker 3: So if you can't run the ball in short yardages,
- 53:22Speaker 3: can they throw and win a game?
- 53:23Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Could they? Sure? But Notre Dame's mo really has been
- 53:28Speaker 3: running the ball with great running backs. They have your
- 53:30Speaker 3: quarterback run the ball. What if the run game isn't there?
- 53:33Speaker 3: Does Notre Dame have a four or five wide play?
- 53:36Speaker 3: I don't. If they do, I want to see it. Chrish,
- 53:40Speaker 3: you not say they can't. They're there, They're the national title.
- 53:42Speaker 3: I'm not gonna rip a team that's made the national title.
- 53:44Speaker 3: But I think if you're Ohio State seven, have their
- 53:47Speaker 3: defensive plans. Dude, make make Riley Leonard throw the ball
- 53:50Speaker 3: thirty times in the game and see how he does.
- 53:53Speaker 3: If they if they can make Leonard throw the ball
- 53:54Speaker 3: thirty times, I bet they get a pretty nice win
- 53:57Speaker 3: because that's just not their mo. So I'll say this
- 54:01Speaker 3: and I if it's a lower scoring game, I would
- 54:06Speaker 3: favor Notre Dame just because they've kind of been there
- 54:10Speaker 3: them all year. Maybe the Jitters gig go look going
- 54:13Speaker 3: forho State. But if if Ohio State gets any like
- 54:16Speaker 3: the high twenties, maybe the old thirties, I think it's
- 54:18Speaker 3: a wrap. So I know it's kind of maybe a
- 54:20Speaker 3: coup of answer, but I think I think if you
- 54:22Speaker 3: keep if this is a game like seventeen to twenty
- 54:25Speaker 3: or twenty one to twenty three, I think Notre Dame
- 54:27Speaker 3: has a great shot that I think they've gone up
- 54:29Speaker 3: with enough teams that they haven't chiance. But if Ohio
- 54:32Speaker 3: State can get up like fourteen early, you know, like
- 54:35Speaker 3: they did against Texas or Tennessee, sorry Tennis, you're Oregon,
- 54:39Speaker 3: then dude, And this would be my last point probably
- 54:43Speaker 3: Like I think that just kind of hit me with
- 54:44Speaker 3: a flashlight crib whatever, the light bulb. Like Notre Dames,
- 54:48Speaker 3: not Mets, come from behind. This is a team Chrys
- 54:51Speaker 3: loves to run the ball, play solid defense, all the possessions,
- 54:56Speaker 3: have a classic twelve twelve twelve possession play. Ry Letard
- 55:00Speaker 3: has a couple of rods, DACD ducks, Like, what is
- 55:03Speaker 3: Notre Dame's plan gonna be if you get blitzed like
- 55:06Speaker 3: they've dugged the other teams. Okay, so now Notre Davis
- 55:09Speaker 3: down seventeen to three at the first quarter, are you
- 55:12Speaker 3: still doing the traditional Riley Letard log gut out drives
- 55:16Speaker 3: or does that sensory go off and your by Chris
- 55:18Speaker 3: of guys, we got to pick up our temple. I
- 55:22Speaker 3: think if they have to pick up the temple, Chris,
- 55:24Speaker 3: I think Notre Dame's.
- 55:25Speaker 2: In big trouble. You got everything in there or you
- 55:32Speaker 2: want Yeah.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I remember them flashing the stat that
- 55:40Speaker 1: this that was the first when when Notre Dame or
- 55:42Speaker 1: when Penn State got up on them, it was the
- 55:44Speaker 1: first time they had trailed since that Northern Illinois game.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Wow wi yeah, yeah, that's not remarkable.
- 55:52Speaker 1: It is, but it's also not that great if you
- 55:56Speaker 1: look at who they beat during that whole season, you
- 55:59Speaker 1: know what I mean saying like, it's remarkable in the
- 56:02Speaker 1: sense of, damn, you guys really controlled the games.
- 56:06Speaker 2: But you want you also want to be put in those.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Scenarios, so then you go through it, you know, what
- 56:12Speaker 1: I mean, it's kind of a it's kind of both
- 56:15Speaker 1: ways that I can look at it and respect it
- 56:18Speaker 1: and tells you how much game, but it also tells
- 56:20Speaker 1: you how reliant they are on game control, ball control,
- 56:26Speaker 1: that's right, you know what I mean. So I can
- 56:28Speaker 1: look at it and respect it because I do, but
- 56:31Speaker 1: I can also see like, and they weren't playing.
- 56:34Speaker 2: In the Big ten or SEC either, you know what
- 56:36Speaker 2: I mean.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I mean, the naval academies were great this year, but
- 56:41Speaker 1: let's be honest, you know what I mean, Like those
- 56:43Speaker 1: aren't Those are good ass wins and they took care
- 56:46Speaker 1: of business. But you know, it's just not the same
- 56:50Speaker 1: as beating the top ten team obviously, you know. True,
- 56:55Speaker 1: So I don't know that that kind of actually makes
- 56:58Speaker 1: it go huh.
- 56:59Speaker 2: You know. And to your point, they're not made to
- 57:05Speaker 2: you know, come back like that.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Ohio State O line. Can they hold up to the
- 57:12Speaker 1: rush I mentioned though they've had some issues. Like I said,
- 57:16Speaker 1: they look better now, but yeah, I think they got
- 57:20Speaker 1: to run the ball, play action, take shots down the field,
- 57:23Speaker 1: but don't force don't force it. If you're Howard, right,
- 57:28Speaker 1: give what the Notre Dame's gonna give you something? If
- 57:31Speaker 1: they're gonna play one on one, so just or maybe
- 57:34Speaker 1: they don't, maybe they do bracket. Just just just take
- 57:37Speaker 1: what the defense gets you. Like you said, if it's
- 57:39Speaker 1: a ten or twelve yard drive, okay, or play drive cool.
- 57:43Speaker 1: I mean that's what they're trying to do to you.
- 57:45Speaker 1: They're trying to keep your offense off the field.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 57:49Speaker 1: That said, though, Howard be aggressive, but just smart and
- 57:53Speaker 1: then I still think he can run more. But they
- 57:56Speaker 1: pointed it out and I saw it too, right when
- 57:58Speaker 1: they put it out on the cover three, Howard missed
- 58:02Speaker 1: the RPO he kept and Judkins had a lot of.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Green which would touchdown.
- 58:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you know.
- 58:11Speaker 1: So when I look at that drive where it got
- 58:13Speaker 1: stalled out, when I look at that dumb penalty that
- 58:16Speaker 1: stalled all the drive, When I look at that, you.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Know that's ten thirteen, fourteen more points, you know. I
- 58:26Speaker 2: So those are the things where I think they have been.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Holding off abusing either of the running backs and Howard
- 58:34Speaker 1: when it comes to running. But now if you got
- 58:37Speaker 1: runs to it, because he actually ran a lot more
- 58:41Speaker 1: at a state and he could do it, I mean
- 58:42Speaker 1: it's not all that sure. That turf monster thing that
- 58:45Speaker 1: caught him, but.
- 58:46Speaker 2: He can actually do it, dude. So and he's a
- 58:48Speaker 2: big dude, so that'll be kind of interesting.
- 58:52Speaker 1: And yeah, you know, will they have a spy on
- 58:55Speaker 1: Riley because they have active between Caleb Downs, who will
- 59:00Speaker 1: all of a sudden beyond the line of scribbage and
- 59:02Speaker 1: behind the line of scribbage in an eyeblink.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Can you you know, do you have a spy on Riley?
- 59:10Speaker 3: And then.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Can they take advantage of that guy's spine, you know,
- 59:16Speaker 1: and say, all right, they're keeping in one spot, Well,
- 59:18Speaker 1: we gotta we gotta, we gotta run something to buy him,
- 59:20Speaker 1: whether it's the tight ends that have looked good or
- 59:22Speaker 1: the running backs. So yeah, it's really about just containing Riley.
- 59:26Speaker 1: You're not gonna stop him, but you just gotta contain
- 59:29Speaker 1: them so he doesn't make those those big, big plays.
- 59:32Speaker 2: But Notre Dame. Like I said, nine in a row
- 59:36Speaker 2: when they face ranked opponents is crazy.
- 59:39Speaker 1: And then I'm not trying to give Ohio State the championship, right,
- 59:43Speaker 1: but anybody that wants to discount either of these teams
- 59:47Speaker 1: in here, because they were fifth and sixth ranked. So
- 59:51Speaker 1: if you just go top four, dude, they will have
- 59:55Speaker 1: beaten one, two, three, four, five, six teams in the
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: top eight, and they're one of the teams in the
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: top eight. So the only team they wouldn't have beat
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: is Georgia, and you know who their opponent on.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Monday night beat them.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: So imagine what we ever said, the number one team,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: the number three team, the number fourteen, the number five,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: the number seven, in number eight. As the rankings stand
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: right now, Indiana is gonna drop down. So let's say
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: they dropped down to twelve or thirteen. They've beaten seven
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: out of the top thirteen and really and they only
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: lost to the number one team going into this.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Whole thing by one point on the road, Like this
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: is ridiculous. If you're gonna take away anything.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: To do with either of these these teams, if you're gonna,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: you know, break Notre Dames balls for losing the Northern Illinois,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I don't know what to tell.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: You, man.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: You know, they beat an SEC team, the highest ranked
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: the SEC team, and then they just beat a Penn State,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Penn State Big ten team. And I know a lot
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: of the South just look at Notre Dame as a
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: you know, as a Big ten team basically, and ultimately,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: who knows, they might but Honestly, you get money for
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: each round and you don't have to split it with
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: a conference. They get it all so if they win it,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: they get twenty million all there. And that's why I
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: don't think the coach should leave either. They're in a
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: great spot right now. So yeah, I mean, anybody shitting
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: on this, I don't know to tell you, but anyway,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: long story short, I do think Ohio State's gonna win.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I'm still back and forth though Marshall on the spread
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: because I may juice it up a little bit for
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Notre Dame. Eight and a half is what it's been
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: lingering around. I don't know, man, I do think Notre
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Dame could keep it tight. And obviously in a tight game,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: they got an easier or you know, a less difficult
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: chance to win it. Right, Obviously it's close, but like
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: if it's a close game going into the fourth quarter,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: anything could happen in you know, we've seen thirteen fourteen
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: point favorites lose when they could have just got in.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: I'm talking to you, Bama, you know what I mean.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: They'd be in the playoffs if they so so in
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: eight and a half. Maybe in normal years, this would
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: be way less in some years. If Ohio States so
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: much better than them, why aren't they like a thirteen
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: and a half. We've seen ten point twelve point thirteen
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: points in Championships game before. So I don't know, man,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I got I'm picking Ohio State to win, but.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I just don't know if they're
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: gonna blow them out. To be honest with you, I
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: think it's gonna be a tight game. Man. Maybe that's
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: just a fan to be open. It's gonna be tight.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: I would take the opposite approach for the gambling part.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I would probably try to get Ohio State minus seven
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: minus six and a half, probably decrease my pound's quite
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: a bit, but I would take Ohio State to win
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: by a touchdown or a little less than touchdown, just
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: because I think they find a way.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Yeah, six and a half would be ideal.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you probably get like minus one fifty, but hey,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: I would still take that juice and lose.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Ten and a half or eleven. Yeah, for yeah, that's fair.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: Just because again, if a couple of plays in Texas's
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: game go differently, or if there's not that headbutt and
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: it's fourteen to zero, quick like, okay, you know so
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: could again Notre Dame's defense has earned the credit they
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: deserve this year, they could easily make this a slow,
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: grind out game. But also if Ohio State has two
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: big plays Judkins whoever Henderson Smith, if they go if
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: they go yard right away, oh shit again, I think
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: if Notre Dame gets down there, like some teams are
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: meant to come back because they love to run the
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: gallay Notre Dame. If you get down fourteen zero, it's
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: it's hard. It's hard.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Can to literally score seven points in the next possession?
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: Yeah, because you just have to? Yeah, because they just
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: it's you're not gonna see Notre Dame is not going
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: through for a why no huddle, just throwing the ball
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: up down the field. That's not their most so hell
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: maybe you know, it's become such a tradition now in
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: NFL or a college n NFL too, if you win
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: the coin toss, you want to defer. If I'm Notre
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: Dame out the coin toss, I'm taking the ball like
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: I don't want Ohio State to get the ball early
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: and get them five. Yeah, doude, good luck and I
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: go that that really is untraditional, But nowadays I dude,
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: if I'm Notre Dame, I want the ball, like, hey,
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: who who yeah, second half whatever? Who cares about the
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: second half? You're down twenty. So I'll take Ohio State
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: minus six and a half minus seven. I think they cover.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: I think they win. But I just hope it's a
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: good game. From my standpoint, I would take Ohio State,
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: but I have no allegiance towards either of these teams.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: I hope we get a beautiful championship to wrap up
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: what's been a really fun playoff. Uh yeah, And I
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: think I just hope it's a good game because that
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: I remember a couple of years ago that Georgia TCU.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: Damn that.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: You hear that going in, It's like, oh, it's gonna
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: get ugly.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and it did. That's fault man, true, true, true,
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: you're right, you're right. Well on that note, Hey, speaking
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: of what if you're if you're an SEC fan, that
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: is sad about how football I did. Dude in basketball, y'all, y'all.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: On your face. Yeah, Big twelve watching this year? Watch
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Big twelve?
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Saturday alone the last couple of Saturdays, but nuts,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: but this is another Saturday coming up where you're like,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: holy ship, dude.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: There's a match, so I get. I guess all the
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: SEC football diehards is the other going to come basketball
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: fans year, So that's fine, that's fine, but we'll be
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: here for it because we got our college basketball podcast
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: coming when football is done. So but we have a
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: great national title game to hopefully watch and a breakdown.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: We'll be back next week. The boys are out. Have
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: a good one. Peace,
