- Jaba: Hello everybody and welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator Jheremy: Thank you. Jaba: Podcast. This is Will Jarvis, also known as Jabba Cards, joined by Jeremy Brown of Perfect Game Baseball, also known as JGB underscore cards underscore. we got a quick one today just doing our AFL wrap up. we didn't record one yesterday 'cause there was only one game. Nathan Flewelling played well. That's all you need to know about Tuesday's singular game. Jheremy: Okay. Okay. Jaba: Or Wednesday's singular game rather. so yeah, we're gonna get into last night's three games. We're back to full slate. Before we get started, this is brought to you by Prospect Pulse. That is on the app store is prospect pulse, also prospectpulse v1.com. And now use code SCOUT for one free month when you sign up. Free cancellation, you don't have to pay anything. Check it out and let us know what you think. So I'm gonna get right into it here. We had the Javelinas and the Desert Dogs for now one and four. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: They're in basically a total free fall. So maybe we shouldn't have crowned them the champions based off their Bowman crew. Jheremy: I like it. Jaba: no particularly meaningful pitchers in here. Jackson Lacomb pitched two innings, no hits, two walks, one K. Really it on the pitching side. Peoria the Javelinas had a big power outbreak, especially if you're an Orioles fan. Brandon Butterworth hit his first one. He's OPSing over a thousand. Again, small sample, but a good small sample. Ike Irish hit a Homer to raise his OPS to a one thousand on the nose with a three for six day. And before I forget, Butterworth's Homer was a grand slam. Jheremy: Yep. Jaba: Vance Honeycut also hit a three run home run, or I'm sorry, a solo home run. he did have four RBIs though. Or sorry, four walks, so I'm having a stroke. Vance Jheremy: Jesus Christ. Jaba: Honeycutt now OPSing 1740. Jheremy: See Jaba: I think this was only like his third game. That's impressive there. No Bowman yet, but you know, good name to know. Former first rounder finally seemingly putting it all together. Over to the Jheremy: Yep. Jaba: Desert Dogs. only scored two runs again. Pretty surprising given the names they have. Eduardo Cantero, for three with a walk and a K. Wyatt Sanford singled in a one for four effort. Caleb Bonomer two for four with a double. He's doing Caleb Bonimer things, hitting three eighty-nine with a nine seventy-seven OPS. Johnny Severino, O for three. Chase Harlan finally getting out of his early funk. he was one for two in this one with a two RBI double. Or I'm sorry, a home run. Not my best right now. I'm scrambling. So Harlan had a terrible Jheremy: First time podcasting. Jaba: start, but he's hitting 231, but has a 927 OPS. Easton Carmichael continues to struggle. O for four with a pair of K's OPSing 444. Carter Johnson still hitless. O for four now OPSing 143. And Isaiah Drake just kinda chugging along one for four day with a single. So now I'll kick it over to Jeremy for the next game. Jheremy: So I got Segueros and Scorpions. It was a four to one game, nine total hits, but there was a lot to kind of glean from this one. A lot of like those cheaper names that we were kind of in on continuing to figure it out, picking it up. Zion Rose, he's going to be one of your chases in 26 draft 1 0 for 4 with a pair of punches. That's not what we're looking at. Welbin Francisco. He had a 0 for 3 day, but it's important to look. He's still hitting 538 with a 1548 OPS like. Just a ridiculous start to the year where even an 0-4-3 game with a walk doesn't move the needle at all on his numbers. Ada Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: Miller picked up a single, had a pair of walks, which is good to see. Paxton Kling doesn't have any bowmen, picked up another knock though, another RBI hitting 400, 1247. He was a good right-handed stick out of high school, went to LSU, ended up at, I believe Penn State is where he got drafted out of later than we would have thought. So if he is in Bowman draft, he could be one of those like sleepy name types that you buy a couple of and kind of store Dante, Norian, 0 for 3. Bruin, Ag, Bayani, Gomez, a pair of punch outs and a hit on the pitching side of everything in total. Aiden Major did take the loss. He was in 24 draft, I believe, with Cleveland color only guy, much like Mason McConaughey, who did throw well. Rangers kid color only. We know Rangers sell well, even their arms. So if you have a couple, might want to just color only. No Jaba: Was he color only or n yeah. No no auto, yeah, okay. Jheremy: autos. Yeah. Yeah, sorry. Like no autos, just color only. Offensively, Mr. Flewelling, another knock hitting 412 on the year 883 OPS. he's filling up the stat sheet, not necessarily doing it with double striples home runs, but he is hitting the ball very hard, which we like to see. He's still only 19 years old, one for four day. Braylon Payne and Neymar Ochoa. Those two went back to back triples. They both hit the ball very hard. Payne stole a bag. Ochoa had another double. Feels like we're talking about Ochoa a little bit more. He's only hitting 286, but he's OPSing at 974. So when he is putting the ball in play, it's going for extra base hits, which we like to see with that profile at 6'4", 210. What is he, 20 years old still? So a Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: lot there to like. Patanti had an 0 for a day. 0 for 4, two punches, he's struggling right now hitting 0.71, which he is like, he is a kind of a boomer bus with you're to get a lot of power or you might get the strikeout. But if he can put it all together, you still as a 23 draft guy, that's somebody that still has a longer leash. He was a younger draft. He's somebody that had a really good year. He turned the corner this year in Pro Ball in the regular season. So somebody to keep an eye on his teammate, Matthew Wood. One for three day, 23 Bowman guy again, hitting 500 with an 1125 OPS. Nick Monastery had a, himself a hit, hitting 286. Astro's guy had a 26 Bowman. Does have ink, very cheap. And more or less, I guess that's about it. John Peck doesn't have Bowman, got off to a hot start, for three, three punches. Brandon Summerhill, another high round first round draft pick, had a one, an 0 for three day. So nothing note, note, noteworthy, but also a couple guys where it's like, We've kind of beat the drum, think, on Neymar or Choa already a little bit for, and people are going to think we have a war chest of them. think combined you and I, we have one base auto that I just bought and that's it. So this isn't like Jaba: Yeah, I don't I I'm not Jheremy: us trying to pump him just like guys go find them if you have them. And I bought mine $5 shipped all in. So they're out there. Flueling, Braylon pain, all things we like. Those guys are some of the guys we in our draft. I think all three of them were selected. All three of them are continuing to do well. So we like that. Jaba: Yep. Yep. Over to Jheremy: Sorry, got long-winded there. Jaba: No, no, I I like it. over to the Solar Sox and the Rafters. Only seven runs in this game, but four homers and three of them were our Bowman guys. Dax Kilby. I mean he he was easy pick. I'm not gonna take a lot of credit for that one. That was kind of an obvious one. stayed hot. Only one for four, but that one hit was a solo home run to lead off the home half of the first inning. OPS at one thousand and four. Demetrio Cresantes, another guy who's been scalding hot. O for three with a walk. He did steal another base. OPS still at nine sixty eight. Jared Thomas continues to struggle. O for four with a hat trick of Km. Yeah, so Mercedes hit a bomb two for four day, got the OPS up to eight ninety-one. And then as far as Bowman guys go, the last one in that lineup was Yausser Soler, who's struggling 0 for 3. He's hitting 273, Jheremy: you Jaba: but it's pretty empty calories with an OPS of 606. Obviously, it's in the early going, and these OPSs can move very quickly, but just Jheremy: Yep. Jaba: kind of giving you a general framework of how these guys have been hitting through five-ish games. over to the Sol. Jheremy: Thanks. Jaba: Cade Snell 0 for 3 with a pair of walks. Arjun Damala, he's been hot. He ended the year hot. He started the AFL hot. Bad day yesterday, though. 0 for 5, 3Ks. Jake Monroe, however, our guy was kind of picking up the load for the Angels prospects. He hit a homer. He walked. And he is now OPSing 1136. Those are things we like. I've been banging the drum there for a while, know, dating. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: back to June, I think. I get kind of the turnoffs. He's a little bit older, you know, he's a corner infielder, and you know, people don't really like the Angels. But I will say with Cronke buying Jheremy: See you then. Jaba: the Angels and, you know, what is it, John Mosalek, who's the president now. I mean You'd know better than I, but he he ran some pretty good Cardinals teams for a long time. Jheremy: the Jaba: at least from my perspective, he seems to be at the very least a you know, professional who has an idea of what he's doing, which is new for the Angels. So between that and Cronkey, you know, again I'll defer to Jeremy on Mosalic, but it seems like they actually have like intelligent baseball people in there, for once and they're gonna now they're gonna have money. Jheremy: And they're seeing like changes already. Like they made a pitching coach change midway through the year and their staff went from like one of the worst to one of the best. Ryan Johnson became like a Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: stud on the mound. Like, that trickles all the way down. They have talent in the pipeline. Obviously. mean, Slowinski was killing it last year. You got Taylor and Haley who did well in A-ball and those are just the first two that jumped to mind. Chase Shores is another, like they have talent. So exactly. Yep. Jaba: Tyler Remner. I mean they they were turning guy I mean, Jose Soriano isn't, you know, a new MLB pitcher and he had shown flashes. But I mean this year he was insane. Obviously he got traded. Where'd he go? Toronto. But Jheremy: Toronto for Arjun, yeah. But like they were able to turn him into like a very, very usable asset where you go and get a top 50 prospect for him at the deadline. Jaba: Yeah, I mean he they turned him into an all star after I mean, I I feel like he'd been around for two, three, four years and again, shown flashes, but Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: he had never been, you know, an all-star caliber guy, at least for more than a couple starts. but yeah. Just to kinda wrap this up, not not a whole lot else going on. Jake Monroe played well. Nazan Zanatello. He had had a couple of big games to start. He's cooled down O for four with a pair of K's. Jake Cook, I know that you're interested in him a little bit, at least as a player, not necessarily from a Bowman perspective. O for two, but he stole his fourth Jheremy: Thank Jaba: base already. He's hitting four twenty nine. I remember you saying that he's like an excellent athlete. Jheremy: Yeah, he's like an 80 grade runner, like who's a two way in college. And now he's obviously focusing solely on hitting a little older, but he's got enough flashes and enough things to make himself interesting. Like go swipe 20 bags on the AFL, break whatever the record is and get a couple of tweets and maybe moves in need a little bit because he is so cheap right now. Jaba: Yeah, I think it's a name worth knowing. I also have an orange of his and a blue at PSA in an overdue bulk order I sent in May coming back. So if you want an orange, Jheremy: It's awesome. Jaba: hopefully not a four, let me know. That is a bit of a shameless pump. But yeah, that that pretty much wraps up the AFL. gonna try to keep these rather short. I do think it's good that we talked about the angels a little bit because it's interesting. But yeah, we're gonna we're gonna wrap here and move on to our next episode. So thank you. you guys for listening as always and let's go matsko desert dogs Jheremy: and go saguaros.
