- 0:00We got a cozy little crowd here at bear Smokehouse Barbecue. We got Dan
- 0:03here, got Colin Stewart, Hecker, got Mark Zaroli. I mean,
- 0:05you talk when the sons of Nutmeg their tailgates amazing. And not only do
- 0:09they do football, which they do really, really well, they are even
- 0:13hockey junkies, and they get the ten out for hockey. Yet it's wild.
- 0:16I know they got to stay away from my car, though they get
- 0:18a little close to my car. Do you have the dents or the scratches
- 0:23to prove it? I might? Oh, okay, all right, Husky's
- 0:26will play BC this weekend. We'll have the game Friday. That'll be our
- 0:30last game of the first semester, six forty five on the radio. Adam
- 0:33will join me from Kelly Rink. We'll get into BC a little bit later
- 0:37on. Owen Simpson got himself a point and he's been logging obviously a lot
- 0:42of time in the defense with the defensive corps. I know Jack Pascucci played
- 0:46a couple of games too. But what if you liked about Owen's progress so
- 0:48far here in this early part of the season. Yeah, I think he's
- 0:50done a nice job. He keeps a game pretty simple. He skates well.
- 0:54He's a big kid. You know, he's six' four and rangey
- 0:57and defense pretty well. And you know, both he and Jack when they
- 1:02you know, they get in they just have to keep the game simple.
- 1:03Make outlet passes, breakout passes, tape the tape, good gaps and you
- 1:11know, basically it's an old saying with defenseman. If you don't notice them
- 1:15a whole lot, they're playing pretty well. So that's kind of what you're
- 1:19hoping for. Sometimes at six' four, is there anything in technique that
- 1:25he has to be especially mindful of versus someone who's a little bit more compact
- 1:30at five eleven. Ah, you know, maybe right now, just because
- 1:34he's still a little thin and he hasn't filled out, But when he fills
- 1:37out, not really. I think it's much more of an advantage to be
- 1:41six' four with a long stick and being able to take away passing lanes.
- 1:47It's definitely an advantage as a defenseman. Yeah, guys, Dano Charo
- 1:49turned out pretty okay. He was six' nine. Yeah, so that
- 1:53works. Yeah. Almost stumbled though at the Stanley Cup when he woreed it.
- 1:57When he got awarded it and you remember that although that was a great
- 1:59moment, actually went to that parade. It's the only parade I've ever actually
- 2:01been to that I wasn't in. Okay, yeah, I was there too,
- 2:06You weren't, yeah, twenty eleven. Yeah, yeah, I had
- 2:08a h Terry Rarely T shirt. Oh my mom was a big Terrios.
- 2:14Yeah, I know, you did. I know. With Andrews hot streak,
- 2:20he's been playing obviously a lot with Thomasinio pickinging, choosing when to join
- 2:24the rush versus when not to. Is that that that seems like to be
- 2:28one of andrew strainths. Yeah, and I think that's pretty instinctive. That's,
- 2:32you know, the great defenseman that joined the rush. You don't really
- 2:37teach him that. It's really just instinct on when to go. It's a
- 2:42hard thing to say, Okay, when the puck's here, you get to
- 2:44join. You know. It's you can encourage your ded to always join the
- 2:46rush, but some guys just do it better than others. And as I
- 2:50said, one of the best I've seen do it throughout my career was Simsbury,
- 2:55Connecticut boy Tommy Cross, who I had a PC. He just retired
- 3:00actually from Springfield. He had a long career, played a little bit for
- 3:06the Bruins and played in the American League, but he was he was one
- 3:09of the best at No. One went to join the Rush. You didn't
- 3:13coach Brian Leach, did you be seen? No? No, I did
- 3:15not, But I know Brian pretty well, I would think so. Yeah,
- 3:19he turned out, okay, turned out all right. First ballot Hall
- 3:21of Fame is okay. I guess that's all right. Yeah. One of
- 3:23the other freshmen, as you talked about Owen since then, Jake Rishard had
- 3:29an incredible start to his career. A couple of goals, a couple of
- 3:30assists in his first two weekends. And now things are quieting down from from
- 3:35that front. What is he still doing well? As he gets deeper and
- 3:39deeper into his fresh He's still getting great chances. It's just not going in
- 3:44for him right now, and it will. He had two on the doorstep
- 3:46the other day, and he gets one or two every game. He's done
- 3:52a really nice job. He also has some skill set and deceptiveness to his
- 3:58game. He makes people think think he's going right, he goes left and
- 4:01he can make it look like he's passing the puck and he's not. It's
- 4:05one of another skill set that it's really hard to teach. But he gets
- 4:09defenseman to bite and gives false information a lot of times, which buys him
- 4:15more time offensively to make a play. I watched the Zoom call last week.
- 4:18Was it either talked about the Grade eight chances at him with calv last
- 4:21week? Yes? Expected goals per game? Yeah, and you mentioned that
- 4:26the Vermont game, that Friday night game, you gave up more, gave
- 4:29up more Greade eight chances than you had in the first what eight games of
- 4:33the season. We gave up sixteen that game and we had not given up
- 4:36more than eight in any game until that point. Right, So how about
- 4:40this past weekend? Cut it a great out? Uh? I know that
- 4:45Friday night it was like twenty nine to twelve five on five. So you
- 4:49know when when play was five on five, we outshot him twenty nine to
- 4:53twelve. I'd have to I actually don't know off the top of my head.
- 4:59I know, and it's bad. Let's just say that's when I look
- 5:02into it. They test. Yeah, the number that Bob was mentioning.
- 5:08We're talked about expected goals per game. I mentioned it in a zoom call
- 5:13last week and you were on top of it. It seems like it's a
- 5:15number that the coaches you you're aware of how many goals obviously you score any
- 5:20game, but also that number that we're talking about expected goals per game calculates,
- 5:27Okay, all things being even, the team should have scored this in
- 5:30a game. Is that a fair assessment? Yes, and no. I
- 5:34think what I just think over the course of time, it probably going to
- 5:40even out. Like and it's a very subjective stat because who's deciding what could
- 5:46be a goal and what couldn't be a goal. But I think they look
- 5:48at a lot of chances that you have where goalie makes a great save or
- 5:53you know, in a lot of situations. You know, those those chances
- 5:59create eight goals, you know, And as long as we're continuing to create
- 6:03those chances, it's usually going to even out. At some point, you're
- 6:08gonna get a couple of goals that go in that shouldn't go in, and
- 6:12we just haven't had many of those this year. All Right, we will
- 6:15take a break so you can go visit with your son a little bit.
- 6:16Well, you'll preview b seat later with Mike but when we come back our
- 6:19two player interviews. First up the captain, Hudson Schandor, and listen to
- 6:25his first answer because if you're a Yukon Hockey fan against y'all Friday's game,
- 6:29he took a penalty in the third period and you'll hear his response on that
- 6:31and you talk about class people. He's one of those guys on the Yukon
- 6:34Hockey Coaches Show from Learfield. Stay with us.
