- 3:12In local news, Boston's winter of 2023 to 2024 has seen a dramatic snowfall deficit,
- 3:20with less than 10 inches recorded, well below the average of 33 inches.
- 3:26This ranks as the sixth least snowy winter on record for the city, with the last comparable
- 3:31season in 1972 to 1973.
- 3:36A high-pressure ridge over the East Coast has deflected cold air and storms, contributing
- 3:41to unusually warm temperatures and minimal snow.
- 3:46El Nino and climate change also play roles, with the former altering storm paths and the
- 3:51latter expected to decrease winter snowfall over time.
- 3:56Despite the snow-scare city, March could still bring significant snow events, as historical
- 4:01data shows it's capable of surprising snowfalls.
- 4:06The storm of the century in 1993 and the March 14th blizzard of 2017 are examples of March's
- 4:13potential for notable snow accumulation.
- 4:17The current season emphasizes the intricate relationship between weather patterns and
- 4:22climate change, even as hopes linger for a snowy March.
- 4:32Now on to sports.
- 4:35Number 3 Yukon wins its first outright Big East regular season title in 25 years.
- 4:42The Huskies, defending men's national champions, hadn't won the Big East in 18 years.
- 4:48Benonavan Klingon led with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 91-61 victory over Seton Hall.
- 4:56The win marked Yukon's undefeated home record this season 16-0.
- 5:03Coach Dan Hurley highlighted the challenge of maintaining excellence in a tough league.
- 5:09Freshman Stephen Castle scored 21 points, tying his career high.
- 5:15Yukon outperformed Seton Hall in several areas, including a 56% shooting accuracy.
- 5:22The Huskies' defense, especially after Klingon's return from injury, was pivotal.
- 5:28Seton Hall remains fourth in the Big East, still hoping for an NCAA tournament berth.
- 5:37Last night in the NBA, the Celtics absolutely destroyed the Warriors, 140-88.
- 5:42Ouch, break out the body bags.
- 5:47The Seas set a league record with their third 50-point win this season.
- 5:52This victory extended their winning streak to 11 games, with Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum
- 5:58leading the scoring.
- 6:00Achieving a franchise record 44-point lead by halftime, the Celtics demonstrated their
- 6:05dominance early in the game.
- 6:08Their recent performances have resulted in an average winning margin of over 22 points
- 6:13for the last 11 games, a record for a win streak of at least 10 games.
- 6:20Despite the loss, Steph Curry acknowledged the Celtics' superior play, highlighting
- 6:25their confidence and strong team identity.
- 6:28Tonight, the Bruins are on the road to take on the Maple Leafs.
- 6:35And top news, our brains are wired to ignore familiar stimuli, a process known as habituation.
- 6:43This neurological process helps us adapt quickly to our environment, focusing on new or changing
- 6:49elements.
- 6:50However, habituation can make us overlook both positive changes and societal issues,
- 6:56like racism or environmental pollution.
- 7:01Halle Sherwood explains that dishabituation can enhance happiness, creativity, and initiate
- 7:07social change.
- 7:10For instance, repeated exposure to misinformation can dull our response, making us more likely
- 7:16to accept falsehoods.
- 7:17Sherwood's research shows that repeated lying diminishes the amygdala's response over time,
- 7:24reducing the emotional impact of dishonesty.
- 7:28Inter-dissocial media and constant images of crises can also desensitize us, making
- 7:34extreme discourse seem normal.
- 7:37People habituate to pollution levels, with studies showing that those in smoggy areas
- 7:41are less likely to perceive air quality issues.
- 7:46Overcoming habituation involves introducing variability into our lives, like learning
- 7:51new skills or taking breaks from familiar environments.
- 7:56Break breaks or diversifying experiences can renew our appreciation for ongoing pleasures
- 8:02and improve overall enjoyment.
- 8:05To combat habituation to global issues like climate change, reliance on data over personal
- 8:11perception is crucial.
- 8:14Addressing societal biases requires making disparities visible and promoting accountability
- 8:20to encourage change.
- 8:23This of our tendency to habituate can inspire us to seek new experiences and challenge societal
- 8:30norms.
- 8:32In business news, Bitcoin's next halving event is set for April 19th, marking a significant
- 8:39moment in its supply mechanism.
- 8:42This halving is unique due to a mix of factors affecting both supply and demand for Bitcoin.
- 8:49The Bitcoin blockchain's design includes having the mining reward approximately every
- 8:54four years.
- 8:56This process continues until the maximum supply of 21 million Bitcoins is reached.
- 9:02Historically, Bitcoin's price tends to appreciate following these halving events.
- 9:09The upcoming event coincides with increased institutional interest and the approval of
- 9:14Bitcoin exchange trade funds.
- 9:16Bitcoin's recent rally brought its value close to the all-time high set in November
- 9:212021.
- 9:24This year's performance deviates from the norm, with significant gains leading up to
- 9:28the halving.
- 9:30Bitcoin's blockchain security is at an all-time high, potentially mitigating concerns post-halving.
- 9:37However, Bitcoin's price remains susceptible to macroeconomic uncertainties and potential
- 9:44corrections.
- 9:45In crypto movement, Bitcoin is currently over $63,000 after another pop, Ethereum is over
- 9:52$3,400, and Solana is $129.
- 10:00Moving on to a more local vibe.

- 10:45And now, back to the show.
- 10:50Let's talk science.
- 10:52Three new moons have been discovered in the outer solar system, enhancing our cosmic neighborhood.
- 10:58One moon orbits Uranus, and the other two circle Neptune, making these ice giants a
- 11:03bit more crowded.
- 11:05The largest of these newly found moons measures just 15 miles across, showcasing the scale
- 11:11of space.
- 11:13These discoveries were made possible by advanced imaging techniques and years of observation.
- 11:20Uranus and Neptune's moon counts now stand at 28 and 16, respectively after these new
- 11:27findings.
- 11:28The smallest of these moons, orbiting Uranus, is only 5 miles in diameter and takes 680
- 11:35days to complete an orbit.
- 11:37Neptune's new moons vary in brightness and size, with orbits ranging from 9 to 27 years.
- 11:46Astronomers used layered exposures to reveal these moons against the backdrop of stars
- 11:50and galaxies.
- 11:52These moons have likely been gravitating around their planets since the early days of the
- 11:57solar system.
- 11:59While this might complete the list of moons, down to sizes of 5 to 8 miles for Uranus and
- 12:04Neptune, the search continues for even smaller satellites.
- 12:11And in entertainment news, Dune, Part 2, led the U.S. Box Office to its best weekend of
- 12:18the year with $81.5 million in sales.
- 12:24This success pushed the domestic box office past the $100 million mark for the first time
- 12:29since January.
- 12:312024's overall box office sales, previously lagging behind 2023 by 20%, have now improved.
- 12:41The sequel's timing proved advantageous, filling a void for movie theaters seeking
- 12:46a box office boost.
- 12:48IMAX reported record sales from Dune, Part 2, highlighting the film's broad appeal.
- 12:55The movie, based on Frank Herbert's novel, explores themes of war, betrayal, and survival
- 13:01on a desert planet.
- 13:04Despite challenges, including a previous controversial simultaneous release strategy, the sequel has
- 13:10performed well.
- 13:12The decision to delay its release due to the actor's strike allowed for effective promotion,
- 13:17enhancing its success.
- 13:19Overall, the weekend saw a total gross of $112 million across all movies, setting a
- 13:26high for the year.
- 13:29Well alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day.
- 13:33And today, in honor of Bitcoin going bonkers again, here's a quote about it from Nobel
- 13:38Peace Prize nominee, Liam Lowe.
- 13:42Every informed person needs to know about Bitcoin because it might be one of the world's
- 13:47most important developments.
- 13:49And it just might be.
- 13:54And that's a wrap for this morning.
- 13:56Remember to stay tuned tomorrow for more news and updates.
- 13:59Have an amazing day my good friends.
