- 0:00And the other thing is to venture into the lion's den and
- 0:03take the fight to them. Rather than being reactive,
- 0:06rather than being defensive, go on the attack.
- 0:09We have truth on our side. And almost every accusation that
- 0:13they throw at us is a projection, is a confession.
- 0:17Classic example, apartheid. Israel is an apartheid state.
- 0:21You hear it time and time again. But if you go to Israel and look
- 0:26with your own eyes, what you'll see are Muslims, Christians,
- 0:30Jews, Jews by all people. Hello everyone.
- 0:38Today we're joined by Joseph Cohen.
- 0:40Joseph Cohen is a leader of the Israel Advocacy Movement and we
- 0:43discussed the online warfare Israel Jews on the global
- 0:46setting. Second thing we discussed is the
- 0:49Palestinian Israel conflict. Is there genocide, is there
- 0:52brutality? What about settler violence,
- 0:54etcetera. And then lastly, we discussed
- 0:56anti-Semitism today and the best ways to combat it.
- 0:59And where is anti-Semitism going in the future?
- 1:01We hope you learn and enjoy. I certainly did.
- 1:03And if you want to see another episode in which we discussed
- 1:06more the on the ground personal conversations with a Jew, with
- 1:10other Jews and Palestinians, you can refer to our episode with
- 1:13Cory Gill Schuster, which was also very informative and a lot
- 1:16of fun. Enjoy.
- 1:17Hello, Joseph Cohen. Thank you so much for joining us
- 1:19on the show today. It's an honor.
- 1:22So before I want to go into is Israel committing A genocide,
- 1:25which I think there is an interesting conversation to be
- 1:28had there 'cause it's not so simple to me.
- 1:30I want to discuss the war on 2 fronts is what I call it.
- 1:35And in my humble opinion you are a a warrior amongst men.
- 1:40There's a there's a concept in Judaism called a Mahamas
- 1:44Mitzvah, which is an obligatory war, in which case all men go
- 1:48out to war to serve the country. And I don't think it's a stretch
- 1:52at all to say that the war against Hamas and Iran is
- 1:56absolutely on the chemist mitzvah.
- 1:57These are people that want to walk to wipe out every Jew, man,
- 2:01woman, child, crippled, doesn't matter off the face of the
- 2:04earth. But there's another war that
- 2:06perhaps the sages of blessed memory didn't have to deal with
- 2:09at the time, which is a war of propaganda.
- 2:11So that's the online social war. And there is a serious issue
- 2:17there. There is not enough people
- 2:19fighting that war. I don't even think we as Jews in
- 2:21general have cut up to how how badly we're being decimated on
- 2:27that battlefield. But yet, Joseph Cohen, you and
- 2:31very few others are are the the school, the few that are
- 2:35fighting that fight. So when did you start fighting
- 2:38that fight? And what did you know that it
- 2:40was a really necessary thing to do?
- 2:42So I have an unusual background. I come from a communist
- 2:46household and I was raised in a hippie commune and I was raised
- 2:50with very progressive values, very tall.
- 2:55I believed in total equality of everything.
- 3:00And I moved to London to become more religious.
- 3:05I grew up in a small village in the north of England with not
- 3:08many Jews in the village, and I came into contact with Jews and
- 3:14Muslims that didn't seem to like each other.
- 3:17And in my arrogance and naivety, I thought, I can solve this.
- 3:22I can bridge the gap between Jews and Muslims.
- 3:26And I got into interfaith of sorts by promoting the
- 3:29commonalities between Islam and Judaism in the hope that if only
- 3:35we knew how similar we were, we'd stop killing each other.
- 3:40And that put me into deep contact with the the Muslim
- 3:45community. And I realized there was a
- 3:47serious problem of anti-Semitism.
- 3:49So I launched what is now a very large charity in the UK, which I
- 3:52have nothing to do with, called the Campaign Against
- 3:54anti-Semitism. Because anti-Semitism back in
- 3:592014 seemed like it was bearing down on us.
- 4:04And it was just this disaster that the Jewish community was
- 4:11sleepwalking into. And then the the Gaza war hit
- 4:14and it just spiraled. And everywhere we looked we saw
- 4:18Hamas. Hamas, Jews to the gas.
- 4:20Hitler was right in just every single anti-Semitic trope you
- 4:22could imagine. And so I launched.
- 4:25So the Gaza war came to an end and all of that anti-Semitism
- 4:31disappeared. But what persisted was I don't
- 4:34hate Jews, I just hate Zionism. I don't hate Judas are Zionists,
- 4:39I don't hate Judaism, I just hate Zionism.
- 4:41I don't hate Jews, I just hate Israelis.
- 4:44And I realized that anti anti Zionism was the acceptable face
- 4:49of anti-Semitism. And So what started with a
- 4:52journey of interfaith moved me into campaigning against
- 4:55anti-Semitism and ultimately led me to the real elephant in the
- 4:58room which was anti Zionism. And you only need to look at the
- 5:03world today to realise how bad and how mainstream this form of
- 5:10anti-Semitism is. And it's now snowballed into
- 5:14every single traditional form of anti-Semitism.
- 5:19You've got left wing people denying the Holocaust, you've
- 5:22got Muslims focusing on the Talmud or mistranslations and
- 5:28fake quotes, verses that are taken out of context.
- 5:33And so my journey, which started as one of can't we all just get
- 5:37along? Has turned into now what is a
- 5:40lifetime's work of trying my hardest to make the world a
- 5:44safer place for my children. When you came to that
- 5:47realization where you lit on fire, meaning you know, this is
- 5:50this is what I'm going to do. This is my mission.
- 5:52It, it was a gradual process, but yes, yes, the, the more I
- 5:58realized how easy it is for anybody to access millions of
- 6:03people and shape the minds of people who our ancestors
- 6:09couldn't. We're in a both an age of
- 6:13blessings and curses at the moment in the sense that our
- 6:17ancestors, when the tyrants came for them, there was nothing that
- 6:23we could do other than beg a gracious, merciful king for
- 6:27protection. If one nation slaughtered us,
- 6:30we'd flee to another and to there was we did have we didn't
- 6:34have arms. We didn't have means of
- 6:38influencing people. And today we have everything
- 6:43with the world is at our fingertips.
- 6:45I've on the average video I post then publish reaches 1,000,000
- 6:50people and I'm a nobody and anybody can do that.
- 6:54I don't have training in this. I have probably less training
- 6:57than most of the people that are watching your podcast, but just
- 7:01by doing something, I'm able to reach millions when things get
- 7:05completely out of hand. For the first time in 2000
- 7:08years, we have a military that can protect us.
- 7:11So in October the 7th, when tyrants rise up to slaughter us,
- 7:15we don't have to go begging to the United Nations for help,
- 7:19because they wouldn't. We don't have to beg America for
- 7:22help. We have the means to defend
- 7:24ourselves for the first time in 2000 years.
- 7:27This is an incredible era, the age of blessings.
- 7:32But unfortunately the flip side of that is our enemies also have
- 7:36access to those same tools and we're a small people and we've
- 7:41always punched above our weight. The Nobel Prizes prophets.
- 7:46You don't get any chapter of humanities, human history.
- 7:49Since the time of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to today, we have
- 7:54disproportionately contributed to humanity.
- 7:59But as proud as I am of my people's achievement and as
- 8:06capable as I think we are, we are a fraction of the world's
- 8:11population and they have 1,000,000, if not billions of
- 8:15people that dislike us. And this is all biblical, it's
- 8:18all in this, all in the Torah, it's all in the Tanakh.
- 8:20It's there, but it tells us this is this is what is going to
- 8:23happen. But it's still a very scary
- 8:27prospect when facing the numbers.
- 8:29For instance, I deal with the Muslim community more than any
- 8:34other community, trying to influence and change minds.
- 8:37The Muslims make up about 20% of the world's population, and they
- 8:41are overwhelmingly opposed to Israel, if not the Jewish
- 8:45people. And that's a scary prospect.
- 8:49That is a huge number of people whose hearts and minds we have
- 8:53to change if if we are to win, say, the information war which
- 8:58you touched on. So yeah, we are in an incredible
- 9:02age, but there are some serious challenges ahead.
- 9:06Well. What I find interesting, at
- 9:08least from a rabbinical standpoint, is that there's a
- 9:10Midrash that talks about in the future that there are reasons
- 9:17for certain parts of the Hamish of the Bible so that we can
- 9:20prove to the many nations that Israel is ours and we do the
- 9:24things that we do. But that's an information war.
- 9:27The way that you've come about this, your angle is a
- 9:30confrontation war. I, I, I admit I'm not not really
- 9:33present in us a lot of social media.
- 9:36Perhaps I, I should be, but it's, and I'm a lot more
- 9:38comfortable with my Talmud. So I haven't seen many of your
- 9:40videos, but but the way that you go about it is your
- 9:43confrontational and that's a very different way to go.
- 9:46Personally, I actually think that that's kind of genius.
- 9:49But in in your opinion, why do you do that versus just
- 9:53disseminating information in a more, shall we say, peaceful,
- 9:56non confrontational manner? And do you think that it's
- 9:58effective? So algorithms have a mind of
- 10:04their own. And to win the information war,
- 10:10you have to persuade the algorithm that your content,
- 10:13your message is worth, is worthy of reaching large numbers of
- 10:17people. And there's a number of key
- 10:20things the algorithm is looking for, is looking for how long are
- 10:24people watching? What kind of people are
- 10:26watching? Are they engaging with the
- 10:28content? How do they feel after watching
- 10:29the content? And unfortunately positive
- 10:34videos perform far worse than negative videos.
- 10:39And conflict is far more engaging than constructive
- 10:49dialogue. And I leverage the how the
- 10:54algorithm works to achieve 2 key thing.
- 10:58First is the wake Jewser to the threat which we face.
- 11:02Many Jews live in middle class bubbles.
- 11:05They work in the city, they have nice friends from all
- 11:11backgrounds, Muslims, Hindus and white Christian.
- 11:17They're not exposed to the majority or the the more common
- 11:23opinions, which are more pervasive and wider society.
- 11:26So one of the things I like to do is shine a huge spotlight on
- 11:29real sentiment rather than the the bubbles that many of us
- 11:33exist in. And so a big part of it is
- 11:37shining a spotlight on the anti-Semitism to to wake Jews up
- 11:42to the threat. And the other thing is to
- 11:45venture into the lion's den and take the fight to them.
- 11:48Rather than being reactive, rather than being defensive, go
- 11:52on the attack. We have truth on our side and
- 11:56almost every accusation that they throw at us is a
- 11:59projection, is a confession. Classic example, apartheid.
- 12:05Israel is an apartheid state. You hear it time and time again.
- 12:10But if you go to Israel and look with your own eyes, what you'll
- 12:15see are Muslims, Christians, Jews, Druze, behind all people
- 12:20coexisting with complete equality under the law.
- 12:24If you venture 30 minutes to Ramallah from Jerusalem, you
- 12:28won't find one Jew. Why?
- 12:30Article 6 of their national charter bans Jews from
- 12:32citizenship unless they were there before the Zionist
- 12:35conquest, which many put to 1917.
- 12:39So they have a law that bans us if an Arab dares to sell a house
- 12:45to a Jew in the Palestinian Authority they face or death.
- 12:50We're looking at a literal apartheid.
- 12:53In contrast, in Israel, Arabs have complete equality.
- 12:56They're in the government, they're in the military.
- 12:58Every time a Jew falls sick in Israel, seriously sick, and is
- 13:03rushed to hospital, it's highly likely that they will be putting
- 13:08their lives in the hand of an Arab doctor.
- 13:12Arabs make up 50% of the doctors and nurses in Israel, over 50%.
- 13:17Israel is a beacon of coexistence, but you wouldn't
- 13:21know it if you just consume journeys from the media.
- 13:25And so I for I in my experience, every accus, almost every
- 13:35accusation they lobby at us is actually a a confession of
- 13:40something that they themselves are guilty of genocide.
- 13:44You slaughtered 6 millions of my people, yet the European Union,
- 13:48the United Nations, they're throwing genocide at a nation
- 13:51which I'm sure we're going to get into, where the births
- 13:55exceeded the deaths, where the enemy population was provided
- 14:00with billions of kilograms of aid, where almost a million
- 14:04Gazans were vaccinated against polio in the middle of a
- 14:08conflict. And yet we're accused of
- 14:11genocide. Meanwhile, Holocaust denial,
- 14:15genuine genocide denial is exploding online.
- 14:20So yeah, we have a difficult job ahead.
- 14:22And and confrontation, you're saying is the way to do it
- 14:25because number one, it wakes juice up.
- 14:27I didn't think about that angle, but that's quite valuable.
- 14:29I would agree with you there. And two, positive information or
- 14:32reactive information is just not heard because it's not popular.
- 14:35OK, I very much understand that now in terms of fighting that
- 14:39social war. So there's really three types of
- 14:42content. There's there's long form
- 14:43content, mid term, mid form content, short form content,
- 14:47long form content. Do people really watch that
- 14:50anymore? I mean, we're in an age where
- 14:52where I feel like that's getting less and less popular and I feel
- 14:55long form is the only place you're going to be able to
- 14:57really change someone's open, open mind.
- 15:00Mid form is kind of niche to her.
- 15:01I feel it's it's doesn't really fall to either category because
- 15:04it's really not popular at all and it doesn't have enough
- 15:06content to really drawn you in. So then you could say, OK, I'll
- 15:09switch to short form. But who are we convincing on
- 15:11short form content from a 22nd or one minute TikTok or YouTube
- 15:15short? Someone that's watching you is
- 15:16just going to try to play into their own narrative.
- 15:18So you're either lying or it's a Jew that already loves you,
- 15:21right? And then they're just going to
- 15:22be like, OK, great. So he agrees with everything
- 15:23that I'm saying. So how are we making a?
- 15:25How are you making a difference in any of these avenues?
- 15:28So one of the the fortunate things with big data, the
- 15:31analytics behind the videos, is you can see where people are
- 15:36viewing from. You can use AI, which I do, to
- 15:40analyze the comments to understand who's consuming the
- 15:43content and whether a message is resonating.
- 15:45I come from the business world and almost every video I put out
- 15:49has a target audience in mind. It has a problem that we're
- 15:54trying to solve that we're addressing within within that
- 15:57target audience. And if you're right, the longer
- 16:04form is less viewed than it used to be.
- 16:07It's still tremendously powerful tool, which is viewed by
- 16:09billions of people, but short form certainly exceeds.
- 16:14As an example, I rarely break into six figures on a long form
- 16:20video. I'm usually in five figure views
- 16:24with short form. Every video is around 1,000,000
- 16:28views across all my platforms and some of them reached
- 16:3310,000,012 million. And you may be disheartened and
- 16:40think that, well, if that's what people are watching, we're never
- 16:44going to win the information law.
- 16:47But if that's the battleground, then it doesn't matter.
- 16:51That's the medium we we use because they're convincing
- 16:55people to hate us with that same short form content.
- 17:00I can assure you, having spoke to thousands and thousands and
- 17:03thousands of people with the content I create, and that's not
- 17:07an exaggeration. I spend 5 hours a day speaking
- 17:10to to anti semites, ordinary people, to everybody.
- 17:14And if the overwhelming majority of people I speak to have
- 17:18incredibly strong convictions and surf not even surface level
- 17:23knowledge. I spoke to a very, very sweet
- 17:28person a few days ago. They described themselves as gay
- 17:32and they had the humility. They were like, I don't know.
- 17:34All I know is free Palestine. I was like, well, you said it,
- 17:37what does it mean? I don't know.
- 17:39It's just as a saying that's popular.
- 17:41My brother says it's, I say it too.
- 17:43They at least have the humility to admit that they had no idea
- 17:48what these mantras that they're chanting mean, but millions and
- 17:53millions of people repeat them ad nauseam.
- 17:56And so you're right, it's much harder to to convince someone
- 18:03with short form than long form. But it's something that our
- 18:07enemies do incredibly well. And so if that's the arena,
- 18:13that's where we have to to enter and that's where we have to to
- 18:16fight the lies. But it's so easy for them.
- 18:18All they have to say is like, IDF shoots baby in the head and
- 18:21then you know, and, and, and people just buy that and believe
- 18:24it. You're fighting that narrative
- 18:25with a short that's going to be very, very difficult.
- 18:28But you're saying there's no alternative, so you fight there
- 18:30anyway. There is no alternative and it
- 18:33is easier to to spread disinformation than it is the
- 18:37spread to to counter that. That's one of the reasons why I
- 18:40prefer to go on the attack rather than on the the
- 18:43defensive. If you're on the defensive,
- 18:46you're constantly in the losing position.
- 18:49If you're on the attack, you're putting your opponent on the
- 18:52back foot. And I think for decades we've
- 18:54just done defensive advocacy has borough, and I think we have to
- 19:00be far more aggressive, far more confrontational and bring the
- 19:04fight to them. And by them I mean the enemies
- 19:07of the Jewish people, not ordinary people.
- 19:11Have you had any responses from any of your work that you know?
- 19:15I really thought one way, but your content really encouraged
- 19:18me to look more into the conflict or more into Judaism,
- 19:22and I've changed my mind. Does that happen?
- 19:23Many, many people. One of the more recent famous
- 19:26examples would be there's a former white supremacist.
- 19:30He was one of the biggest supremacists on the Internet, a
- 19:33man called Lucas Cage. I'd made videos about him.
- 19:37We'd engaged and I used to fight the fight like everybody else
- 19:41fought and I made a video. I made a few videos about them
- 19:49not doxing him, but really just going down the conventional.
- 19:53Here's a bad guy, look how bad he is.
- 19:55Everybody pay attention to this bad guy.
- 19:58He's a fascist. He's running political parties.
- 20:00We need to cancel him. We terrible strategy and I
- 20:05switched my strategies and I don't think I had anything to do
- 20:08with his D radicalization. He's the radicalized himself.
- 20:12I'm sorry to interrupt you. What?
- 20:13Why was it a bad strategy? Pardon.
- 20:16I I'm sorry to interrupt you, but why was it a bad strategy?
- 20:18You said it was a bad strategy. Why?
- 20:20It's not effective. It's a losing strategy.
- 20:22It's so that you're constantly on defense.
- 20:24You cancellation will affect us as much as that affects anyone
- 20:28else. I, I show you my TikTok as an
- 20:30example, which has terrible, terrible umm stunt.
- 20:35Here we go. You what you're going to say is
- 20:37community standard, community standard violation.
- 20:39Community standard violation, community standard violation
- 20:42communities and the count warning who's in charge of
- 20:46community standards, community guidelines, usually people that
- 20:50don't like Israel. So cancellation is a double
- 20:53edged sword and it will be used against us as a tiny minority in
- 21:01a world where our enemies are growing more and more bold and
- 21:07more and more in number. So I, I think cancellation is it
- 21:10hasn't been effective. It hasn't been good at if
- 21:13anything, I believe the cancellation strategy has
- 21:17created more anti-Semitism than it's actually resolved.
- 21:23It doesn't divide the class. And so there's a conversation I
- 21:26had a couple of months ago with a hardcore neo Nazi and this guy
- 21:33has swastika behind him. And we get into this 2 hour
- 21:37conversation and it gets dark and I start really listening to
- 21:40him, but also pushing him and asking if you were there because
- 21:45he, he really idolized the Third Reich.
- 21:48If you were there, would you, you personally, not somebody
- 21:51else, would you be the one that was willing to take the life of
- 21:55a Jewish child, a Jewish mother? And when push came to shove, he
- 21:59was yes. So this was a dark conversation,
- 22:02but Lucas Gage, the ex white supremacist, has not since
- 22:07commented on lots of podcasts where he's directed people to
- 22:11this video and said, this is how you deal with anti semites.
- 22:15This is how you deal with anti-Semitism.
- 22:17You listen to their concerns and you reason with them and you,
- 22:21you, you, you respect where they come from.
- 22:24Because I think this is one of the, the, the things we get
- 22:27wrong, we'll just dismiss. There are people on the far
- 22:32right in the Muslim world who have legitimate concerns.
- 22:37They have legitimate concerns about their country.
- 22:39They have legitimate concerns about what's going on in in
- 22:42Israel, the conflict ever. And if we just dismiss
- 22:47everything and just dismiss them, it just radicalizes more
- 22:51and more people. And I think the best way to de
- 22:54radicalize an actual deal with real anti-Semitism is to listen
- 22:58and de radicalize. Now you when it when I'm
- 23:01speaking to one person, it may look like I'm just talking to
- 23:04this one neo Nazi. I'm not that video went viral
- 23:08amongst Nazis. I had so many comments on from
- 23:10the far right underneath. And I'm talking white
- 23:12supremacist. I'm not talking somebody who
- 23:14listens to Ben Shapiro, actual far right neo Nazi shaved heads
- 23:21who's saying this is an incredible conversation and
- 23:23tremendous. And the flip side of that is I
- 23:27don't deal with the Nazis as much.
- 23:28I deal much more with the Muslims and in the UK I've
- 23:32debated several times when I when I lived in Britain, a guy
- 23:36called Abdul Hakim. Now he was in a documentary
- 23:39called The Jihadis Next Door with the London Bridge terror
- 23:43cell. This guy was a Talmud, a student
- 23:47of Anjem children who's radicalised more terrorists in
- 23:50the UK than any other hate preacher.
- 23:53This guy was serious. He'd been jailed for extremism.
- 23:56He was behind the Sharia patrols in London and I noticed on a
- 24:01video between me and Muhammad Hijab, a street preacher YouTube
- 24:05from the UK, that Abdul Hakim had left the comment.
- 24:08I never thought I'd say this, but Joseph has more love and
- 24:13hate for the sake of Allah, for the sake of Hashem.
- 24:16Akadeshwar who than the Muslims? He loves his people and so he
- 24:20should. How should we?
- 24:22Why should we expect anything else from him?
- 24:24So what had happened? Was this jihadi, this mujahid
- 24:27heard, watched me proudly standing on the tradition of our
- 24:34ancestors, stand proudly standing with the state of
- 24:38Israel, standing with the Jewish people and unapologetically
- 24:42defending them. And he respected that, and I
- 24:47did. He respected it because I also
- 24:49respected his tradition. I know Islam, I know his
- 24:52traditions. I won't agree with it, otherwise
- 24:53I'd become Muslim. But I've taken time to, to study
- 24:57to, to some extent, the, the Quran, Hadith, the Sunda, the
- 25:03Sierra. And so I, I, I think the, the,
- 25:09the, the winning strategy first and foremost is to go on the
- 25:12attack, but to, to, to abandon all the things that have failed
- 25:17as in the information age cancellation culture is out.
- 25:21The West is rebelling against it and we'll we need to adjust and
- 25:32kind of catch up to the times because we're still fighting
- 25:35with the strategies that were developed 50 years ago and the
- 25:40world's a very different place. Well, it sounds like what you do
- 25:43is you manifest the true Greek dialogues, like you're having an
- 25:46actual conversation with someone on the other side without any
- 25:49any automatic dogmatic preconceptions.
- 25:52If you say something, I'm going to respond.
- 25:54And what you're hoping for is that if you say something, the
- 25:56other person is going to respond to after processing it.
- 25:58So I do think that that's like the key of open conversation.
- 26:01So I definitely hear that. I think it's amazing that you
- 26:03spoke to a neo Nazi and then got neo Nazis to respond to saying
- 26:06that that was an enlightening conversation.
- 26:08That's definitely a change on the online war on the online
- 26:13front from those that are fighting the battles.
- 26:16Are you winning? Are we winning or are we losing?
- 26:19We're losing. How badly?
- 26:22Very badly at the moment. But, and it's a huge but, the
- 26:27information war is always going to be less important than the
- 26:34material war, the real war. And on that front we're doing
- 26:38incredible. Israel has never been stronger
- 26:41and what we're experiencing at the moment is a trend.
- 26:46It's a tsunami of hate that's bearing down on the Jewish
- 26:49people and in previous generations this would have left
- 26:53the Jewish people in a precarious and dangerous
- 26:55position. But today with Israel, I'm at
- 26:59least filled with hope because we have the means to defend
- 27:02ourselves. If anti-Semitism gets out of
- 27:04control in the UK, we have Israel to return to.
- 27:08And so I think this trend, like all trends will fade the the
- 27:16Candace Owens, the Nick Fuentes, the done Bazarians, the the
- 27:21anti-Semitism that just seems to be everywhere is already getting
- 27:26boring for people. They're going to move on
- 27:28subject. Absolutely.
- 27:29I mean, you already saw Nick Fuentes jokingly talking about I
- 27:34think he was had lame to fill in because why?
- 27:37He's sick of the Muslims and the left hijacking his country and
- 27:42making it all about Palestine. Nick Fuentes was leading the
- 27:47charge. He may brought these people
- 27:49along with him and he's as an example, is somebody who already
- 27:55is beginning to tire and realize and recognize that maybe the
- 27:59Jewish people and this tiny minority in America aren't the
- 28:03the threat that they first are they he first perceived it to
- 28:07be. Now I still believe in if one
- 28:08this is an and you see, I don't get me wrong, but this is a
- 28:11trend and trends come and go. It used to be the the what was
- 28:15it the ice bucket challenge, and at the moment it's the
- 28:18anti-Semitism challenge. But I do believe this trend will
- 28:22pass. If you look at previous,
- 28:26previous conflicts, what happens is anti-Semitism soars out of
- 28:30control and then it drops back down and it's kind of there's a
- 28:35ratchet effect. So it drops down, but it never
- 28:38quite drops down to where it was and it's a bit higher.
- 28:42And so this will, when this region, I'm saying I'm talking
- 28:47from just South of Jerusalem, when this region calms down,
- 28:51when Gaza resolves itself, whatever happens there, the
- 28:54world will forget. The world will move on.
- 28:58There'll be another war. There'll be pandemic, there'll
- 29:01be another news story and the algorithms will stop feeding as
- 29:08many people Jewish content because less people will find it
- 29:12engaging. And we'll see the, the current
- 29:14wave that we're riding of anti-Semitism, we'll we'll see
- 29:19it gradually come down. And this is Jewish history.
- 29:21It's just waves of anti-Semitism.
- 29:23Spikes comes back down, spikes comes back down.
- 29:27And we are. I believe we're riding a wave at
- 29:29the moment, and who knows when it's going to come back down.
- 29:32But it will. And as people lose interest, the
- 29:35algorithms will stop feeding people content.
- 29:38It's got so bad because the algorithms reward content about
- 29:43Jews. Look at Piers Morgan.
- 29:46All his best performance shows, with the exception of speaking
- 29:48to Ronaldo, are about Israel and Jews.
- 29:51Right. And he recognizes, by the way,
- 29:54Piers Morgan's an interesting character because he refused to
- 29:56have Tommy Robinson on his platform because of Tommy
- 29:59Robinson's views of Islam. And yet he's platformed every
- 30:04single major anti Semite that you can think of.
- 30:08Nick Fuentes was there. They're all there and they've
- 30:10many. Some of them have been back
- 30:11multiple times. Why?
- 30:14Because Jews equals views and anti-Semitism, anti Zionism is
- 30:20an acceptable form of prejudice in the West today, whereas anti
- 30:24Muslim prejudice is not acceptable was not acceptable.
- 30:28Yeah, but the the problem with your theory for me, so tell me
- 30:32where my error is, is that historically when there's hate
- 30:35against Jews model that was done.
- 30:38I mean, there was it was Muslim and antiquity as well, but
- 30:40Christians against Jews and a lot of that was generated by
- 30:43religious fervor. OK.
- 30:44Now, as we live in the world that's far more godless, you
- 30:48know, we have killed God, his blood is on our hands.
- 30:50So quote Nietzsche. So we have a lot less religious
- 30:52Christians. And that may be an explanation
- 30:54why there's less anti-Semitism coming from the Christian world.
- 30:57But from the Muslim world, I think we're seeing more of a
- 30:59radicalization, more of a move to the right.
- 31:02So even if more of the classic W becomes quiet because we'll be
- 31:06another war, another pandemic to focus on the rhetoric in the
- 31:09East, we'll still be pushing for the destruction of the Jewish
- 31:13people and spreading hate as much as possible.
- 31:14And as the world population increases in its number in
- 31:17regards to Muslims, are we really seeing such a change in
- 31:21that trend? Is that tsunami not going to
- 31:23still be bearing down on us and every generation not get worse?
- 31:27Yes or no, it could go either way.
- 31:30So what I would say is Muslims are in a they're in a squeeze at
- 31:34the moment. They're in a tight spot because
- 31:37theologically, Israel isn't supposed to exist.
- 31:40We're supposed to be one of the Dimma, one of the Al al Kitab,
- 31:44one of the People of the Book that's under Islam.
- 31:48And yet here's Israel. Not only are the Jews not under
- 31:52Islam, but they're humiliating every Muslim army.
- 31:56In 1948 a bunch of Holocaust survivors and refugees from the
- 32:00Muslim world with 1 rifle between every three soldiers
- 32:04humiliated the most powerful Muslim armies on the planet, One
- 32:08of them Al Jaish Al Arabiya. The the Arab Legion was headed
- 32:12by British officers like John back at Globe armed by the the
- 32:17Egyptians. The British armed by armed,
- 32:19sorry the Egyptians, the Jordanians armed by the British,
- 32:23the best weapons in the Middle East.
- 32:25The Jews were under an arms embargo with 1 rifle for every
- 32:28three soldiers. And some of those soldiers were
- 32:30women. And they humiliated, humiliated
- 32:345 Muslim armies. Under who?
- 32:38Who attacked Israel Under the banners was Haji Menel Hosseini.
- 32:41Oh my Muslim brothers, I declare A jihad.
- 32:45Slaughter the Jews, slaughter them all.
- 32:48And they didn't. They failed.
- 32:50And so theologically, the Muslim world is in a pickle.
- 32:53And this is where the Quran comes to our rescue.
- 32:56You see the Quran, like the Torah, what the Quran basically
- 33:01it says it affirms the Torah. It copies many of its concepts
- 33:06from our book. And in the Quran it says, you
- 33:11call me al Tulu, al Erdel muqadisa.
- 33:13I let the Kataba Allah alakum, which means in English, Oh my
- 33:17people, this is Moses Moshe Moussa salallahu alaihi wasalam
- 33:23peace and blessings be upon him speaking to the children of
- 33:27Israel and he says, O my people, enter the Holy Land that Allah
- 33:32has written decreed to you. And so it's within the Quran.
- 33:40I believe the answer to the Islamic Zionist dilemma, which
- 33:46is the Jews aren't supposed to be independent.
- 33:51They're supposed to be protected by the Muslims under Islam.
- 33:55And yet here they are. Not only are they not under the
- 34:00Muslims, but they keep humiliating the Muslims when the
- 34:02Muslims attack. And I think that's the key to
- 34:05unlocking the Muslim world. And so when you look at the
- 34:08Abraham Accords and you speak to Muslims from places like the
- 34:12Emirates, this is the the key for them to not have to
- 34:19compromise on their religious belief, not to have to abandon
- 34:23the Dean, their faith. And I think in doing that, Islam
- 34:31and the Jewish people can coexist in this region.
- 34:35And it's based on our, we don't have to take them out of their
- 34:39religion. We don't have to much harder to
- 34:41take someone out of their religion than it is to show them
- 34:43a verse that supports us being in the land.
- 34:46And so I, I see this exchange between the Jewish people and
- 34:52the Muslim world, as has been the key to do overcoming the
- 34:58challenge which you, you rightfully presented, which says
- 35:01around 2 billion Muslims in the world that don't really like
- 35:05the, the state of Israel existing.
- 35:08And they do so largely out of religious conviction and
- 35:11solidarity with their people. And so I think we lean into
- 35:15their religion to to solve that challenge.
- 35:18Yeah, but here's the thing, Joseph, are you what we call a
- 35:21religious Zion? Do you believe in that in the
- 35:22Israeli army and that Jews should be conscripted into the
- 35:25Israeli army? I I believe that all Jews that
- 35:28I'd go further. Anyone who is a citizen of
- 35:31Israel, be they Jewish, be they religious, be they secular, be
- 35:35they Arab, be they Muslim, be they Christian, be they Druze,
- 35:39should, if benefiting from the protection of the Israeli
- 35:43military, be serving in that military.
- 35:47I have friends who've lost children in this conflict and
- 35:51it's disgusting to me, and I'm probably going to offend many of
- 35:54your audience, that my friends, children, that my children, as
- 35:58they grow older will go off to fight.
- 36:01And there are others that are exempt.
- 36:02I think learning is an incredible thing and I think the
- 36:06army needs to make adjustments, serious adjustments, to
- 36:10accommodate the religious needs of all of the citizens.
- 36:14But I believe everybody should be doing national service.
- 36:17So yes, I am a religious Zionist and I do believe that everyone
- 36:20should serve. So let me make a ridiculous
- 36:22claim. OK, There are Jews out there.
- 36:24And by the way, for our listeners, if Jews were perfect,
- 36:26then Michelle would be here already, OK?
- 36:28We're just really awesome. We're not perfect yet, OK?
- 36:31But there are Jews out there, Joseph, that would say that you
- 36:33are worse than a Nazi, which, by the way, I think is the most,
- 36:36I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that.
- 36:39But, and, and I'm talking religious Jews, we'll go out in
- 36:42the streets and hold signs up that the modern Israeli
- 36:46government is worse than the Nazis, OK?
- 36:48The government that is feeding them, that is clothing them,
- 36:52that is protecting their places of worship, that is maintaining
- 36:55their security, that is ensuring that even the religious
- 36:57institutions gets funding so they can pay their rabbinical
- 37:01scholars are worse than Nazis before.
- 37:04Maybe we'll get into that conversation, maybe we won't,
- 37:06but the But such a mistake is extremely dogmatic, meaning
- 37:11you'd have to not understand the Torah in order to make such a
- 37:14mistake. You Just because you label
- 37:16yourself as a religious Jew doesn't mean that you understand
- 37:20that what the Torah asks view. So my concern is, is that in the
- 37:23Muslim or what you're saying is very enlightened what you're
- 37:26saying about people really understanding the Quran and
- 37:29looking at the verses and internalizing it, right?
- 37:31So then maybe they'll elevate themselves religiously
- 37:33understand that just like that the Prophet Muhammad said Jews
- 37:37do have a place in the land of Israel and they're supposed to
- 37:40be there. That's wonderful before the
- 37:42dogmatic, right? How are you going to ever, you
- 37:45know, touch those people? And my fear is that those
- 37:47numbers are the ones that are going to be increasing
- 37:49exponentially, not the other ones.
- 37:51So I would look to our own camp for the answer to that.
- 37:55I completely agree. There are Jews who do an
- 38:00injustice to those that perished in the shower by comparing a
- 38:05Jewish government to the Nazis. They're a fringe of a fringe of
- 38:11a fringe. And I hope we can get to the
- 38:14same place with the Muslim world.
- 38:16You're you're never going to win everybody over.
- 38:18There's 2 billion Muslims, but if you the better example for me
- 38:22is not the Jewish community today, it's not the Muslim
- 38:25community, but the Christians. Not every Christian loves the
- 38:29Jewish people and not every Christian loves the state of
- 38:31Israel. But today, there is no greater
- 38:34friend to the Jewish people than devout Christians who support
- 38:39the state of Israel. They lobby Congress for us.
- 38:43They donate. They come to Israel.
- 38:46I meet them. They're one of the few people
- 38:48that will venture into Judea, the Jewish heartland.
- 38:51There's actually some Cowboys, the Israel guys, check them out,
- 38:54some Cowboys living near Habra in the in the Chevron.
- 38:59And they bring thousands of Christians here.
- 39:03They love the land so much. They love the Jewish people so
- 39:05much. They're here not to proselytize,
- 39:07not to try and take us out of our faith, but just because they
- 39:10believe if you stand with Israel, you'll be blessed, and
- 39:14if you stand against Israel, you'll be cursed.
- 39:16They have genuine love for the Jewish people.
- 39:19If you were to tell my ancestors, your ancestors, I
- 39:22don't know where your family's from, mine were Polish Jews.
- 39:26And if you'd have told them 500 years ago that in 500 years
- 39:30there are going to be Christians that love the Jewish people, we
- 39:34have no greater friend. They would look at you like you
- 39:36were insane, like you're Meshugana.
- 39:38Is that how is this possible? They're ripping our flesh from
- 39:42our bodies. They're burning, burning us at
- 39:45stakes. And in 500 years time, you mean
- 39:47to tell me they'll be Christians that love Israel?
- 39:49Why did this happen? Why do Christians love Israel
- 39:53today? They stopped relying on their
- 39:56clergy and started reading the old, the Only Testament for
- 40:01themselves. And they realized that, well,
- 40:06actually it was fascinating. It was around the 16th century
- 40:09in Britain. A stream of Christianity
- 40:12developed the idea that for their belief for Jesus to come
- 40:15back and reign for 1000 years, the Jews needed to return to
- 40:18Israel. And so they petitioned Cromwell
- 40:21to allow the Jews back into the country so that they could sell
- 40:24from Britain to the Holy Land to steal it from the had to take it
- 40:27from the Turks. And this was the reason that
- 40:31Jews admitted back into the UK. That same stream of Christianity
- 40:35with people like John Locke and the likes then went over to
- 40:38America and Christian Zionism was ceded from the very
- 40:42inception of America. But it all came because
- 40:46Christians started reading the the Bible in their own language
- 40:52and recognizing prophecies which they thought would materialize.
- 40:55I think the same will be true for Islam.
- 40:58The information has unlocked, Sorry, the Internet has unlocked
- 41:02or the age of information has unlocked an entire world for
- 41:05Muslims. Islam is being flipped on its
- 41:08head. It's been challenged from many
- 41:09different places, the Islamic dilemma, Israel, etcetera.
- 41:13And it will evolve. And I'd like to say I always
- 41:16hope that as it evolves, it will come to recognize that Israel
- 41:21isn't in contradiction with the Quran, which is the belief of
- 41:25many today, which is why they believe it's a religious
- 41:27obligation to wage jihad against us.
- 41:31I really hope you're a pessimist because that's such an
- 41:33optimistic thing to say and I want to trust you.
- 41:41But if we're moving to a more educated age, then you'd be
- 41:45correct. And I, I really hope you are.
- 41:47I really hope you are. I can speak from my own
- 41:49statistics. That's the only thing I can say.
- 41:51I have more and more people, more like I can't give you an
- 41:54actual percentage, but I'm inundated with comments under
- 41:58almost every video with people saying including short form,
- 42:02that I'm changing their mind. My video videos reach hundreds
- 42:07of millions of people now. I kind of, I started counting at
- 42:09the beginning and I lost count. If I can convince 1% of the
- 42:14Muslims that watch that, that's a huge number of people who will
- 42:18then go and campaign for the people.
- 42:19We're just planting seeds. We're planting seeds and hoping
- 42:23that in time, with time, they will grow and the fruits will
- 42:28benefit all people. The fruits will will benefit all
- 42:30people. So before we get into the really
- 42:33juicy stuff, one more thing on this.
- 42:35So what, what can we do as a Jewish people to improve what's
- 42:39going on in the online sphere from from me looking at it on
- 42:43the outside, I mean, you're the king of it.
- 42:45But I just feel that there's we don't have enough yet in doing
- 42:48it. We don't have enough Jews on the
- 42:49ground that care about how we look.
- 42:51And by the way, we should, there's a Talmudic obligation
- 42:56that if a Jew thinks that another Jew has sinned, that
- 42:58they have a rabbinic obligation to inform them.
- 43:01Actually, I did not send. This is what you saw, right?
- 43:03And I, I think that even if it wouldn't be to the letter of the
- 43:06law, tell mutically that we have to do that with our Gentile
- 43:08brethren. It's certainly within the spirit
- 43:10of the law. Like if people think all of
- 43:12these horrible things about us and almost none of them are
- 43:15true, we have an obligation to to fix that.
- 43:18So what, what are we doing wrong?
- 43:19What can we do to help? What's What's the key to all of
- 43:21this? So you're doing what every two
- 43:26needs to do. It doesn't matter how learned
- 43:28you are, how accomplished you are.
- 43:31We are at best 16 million people, I think probably less
- 43:36palatically at least. And we're facing billions of
- 43:43people that don't like us. So we can't afford to be
- 43:49complacent. We can't afford to rely on other
- 43:51people to fight the fight. We have to.
- 43:54We have to be the change that we want to see.
- 43:57And This is why I started making the content that I was making.
- 44:04And I very quickly realized it was very easy to access a large
- 44:10audience. The only thing you have to do is
- 44:14do something, be active. Don't wait for other people to
- 44:18to fight this fight because we can't afford.
- 44:21If you care about the Jewish people, it's not enough to give
- 44:25them a Jewish education. I believe we have to be present
- 44:28in the world. We have to be fighting for our
- 44:30people. As you, as you started.
- 44:32There's a, there is an information war.
- 44:35This is an information war we're in and we are losing the
- 44:39narrative. And there's a duty on every Jew,
- 44:42I believe, to do something. It doesn't matter how big.
- 44:46In the same way, I believe there's a duty on every Jew to
- 44:48do something Jewish. I'm not into curious.
- 44:51I'm not into make it my caravan people making them religious.
- 44:54But we come from an incredible tradition.
- 44:58And if the only mitzvah you do is to like Shabbat candles on a
- 45:01Friday night, that's better than doing nothing.
- 45:04That you're, you're, you're attaching yourself to an
- 45:07incredible, incredible people, incredible tradition, and you're
- 45:12doing something. If you do nothing, your
- 45:15Jewishness will leave you. They're your children, your
- 45:18grandchildren. They, they will cease to be
- 45:20Jewish. And I think this is the key.
- 45:23The key is to do something. You're doing something.
- 45:26I'm doing something. There are thousands and
- 45:28thousands, hundreds of thousands of Jews, if not millions of Jews
- 45:31that are doing something. But we all have to be, we all
- 45:35have to be contributing. There's just simply not enough
- 45:38of us to rely on others. And you're talking about
- 45:41content, so it. Can be content, it can be.
- 45:46Let's say you have a very successful organization, you're
- 45:50in real estate, it can be financial, it can be content, it
- 45:55can the. You just have to be do.
- 45:58Every person is blessed with different skills and different
- 46:01strengths. Some people are great speakers.
- 46:03Other people have tremendous knowledge of the people have
- 46:06great well, whatever you can contribute, wherever you are
- 46:10strongest, whatever you can offer the most.
- 46:12I believe there's an obligation to be doing something for the
- 46:14Jewish people because the we're in too precarious a situation to
- 46:19simply rely on others to do that.
- 46:22OK, so as people who are familiar with my show, no, I try
- 46:28to maintain par of kite, a certain neutral stance when
- 46:33going into a controversial topic.
- 46:37So we're going to start and we'll see where this goes.
- 46:39There are 10s of thousands of children and women that are dead
- 46:43in Gaza. And can you honestly say that
- 46:45there's no genocide going on there?
- 46:48So first, I would say that's tragic.
- 46:50Genuinely. War is horrible and the
- 46:53situation in Gaza is dire. I'm not one of these hardcore
- 46:57Zionists. This turned Gaza into a car
- 47:00park. I don't care.
- 47:01They attack. No, this.
- 47:03I've got friends in Gaza. I mean, I speak with
- 47:05Palestinians, Arabs every single day.
- 47:08And many of them and their videos on my channel you can
- 47:11watch want peace in this region. As much as I want peace, I want
- 47:16their children to prosper, to thrive.
- 47:18They want my children to prosper, to thrive.
- 47:21But Gaza is a war. And in every war, tragically,
- 47:27tragically innocent people died. If it was only soldiers that
- 47:31died, if it was only bad guys that died, war wouldn't be a
- 47:33problem. Let them fight.
- 47:36But it's not. It's innocent people.
- 47:39It's people that have as much of A right to life as you are
- 47:43right, that tragically lose. And so Israel has moved
- 47:50mountains to minimize civilian casualties.
- 47:56I can't think of another military, another army in Modern
- 48:01Warfare that has done more to preserve civilian lives.
- 48:04And I'll bring that to life by just stepping back and looking
- 48:07at the numbers. Gaza had around 2 million people
- 48:12living there on October the 6th. It's a tiny area, one of the
- 48:18most densely populated places in this region.
- 48:22And Israel was attacked and then we were forced into Gaza to
- 48:28fight because our people were stolen and buried under the city
- 48:33and a fortified network of tunnels that dwarfed in London
- 48:36Underground. This is stuff but in fact, by
- 48:39now most people will be familiar with.
- 48:42So we had to fight and engage in a kind of urban landscape that
- 48:51most armies wouldn't be able to deal with.
- 48:54And so we develop incredible tactics to minimize civilian
- 48:58casualties. So we evacuate entire city's
- 49:02entire neighborhood, somewhere like Rafa, a million civilians
- 49:07are evacuated or moved out to pace places like Omulwasti and
- 49:12Gaza City, which are safer than Rafa, which is a ride will come
- 49:16a war zone. But in doing so, we lose the
- 49:22surprise element that any military wants.
- 49:25The worst thing you want to do in a battle, and I'm no military
- 49:28expert, but I have common sense, is tell your enemy that, guys,
- 49:33we're coming, you've got two days to clear out and we're
- 49:36coming. Why?
- 49:36Because they're going to lay ambushes, they're going to flee.
- 49:38This, it's not a great military strategy, yet we did it.
- 49:41Why? Because we wanted to minimize
- 49:43the civilians on their side. The other thing which is
- 49:48massively missed by many people is what constitutes an innocent
- 49:53party in a conflict. Now many, many innocent people
- 49:56have died in Gaza. It's a war.
- 49:59It happens in every war and its tragedy.
- 50:03But many of those that are counted as innocent bystanders
- 50:07are not. In Islam.
- 50:10There's a one of the Sahaba, one of the companions comes to
- 50:14Muhammad at the odd. I think it's the battle and
- 50:20battle of teeth. He comes to Muhammad and he
- 50:22says, can I fight? I want to be a mujahid.
- 50:26I want to join them, a jihadi. I want to join the Mujahideen.
- 50:29Muhammad looks at him and says, you're a boy, you're 14 years
- 50:33old. No, you can't go away.
- 50:36The next year is the battle of. He comes back to Muhammad and
- 50:40said, can I? Can I fight?
- 50:42Muhammad looks at him. You're 15 years old.
- 50:44Yes. You're old enough now to be a
- 50:46jihadi, Beth Salem. It's not related to cars, but
- 50:51related to Judea and Samaria. Beth Salem recently put out a
- 50:53report that said 54 miners had been killed in Judea and
- 50:57Samaria. So I did some serious analysis.
- 51:01I went through all manner of information to identify each of
- 51:06these individuals in the circumstances of their deaths.
- 51:10And what I found was 20% of them were members of terrorist
- 51:15organizations, 80% of them were engaged in violence.
- 51:18And so why is this relevant? You have someone like Benny
- 51:23Matter or Benny or the 17 years old big beards, and on their
- 51:29Shahada poster, the martyrdom poster, they're holding
- 51:33Kalashnikovs. They're called an emperor.
- 51:35They're all holding heavy, heavy weaponry, 17 years old in Gaza.
- 51:41The world would report that as a minor.
- 51:43Hamas, the youngest person on this report, which I reported
- 51:47was just due down some area, The youngest person that Hamas
- 51:51claimed was one of its Mucha Hadean was 15 years old.
- 51:54And it's heartbreaking because you look at it's a kid.
- 51:56He has a baby face. Yeah.
- 51:58Hamas are claiming him as one of their militants.
- 52:02And so unfortunately, Hamas do recruit child soldiers.
- 52:06Islamic Jihad do recruit child soldiers.
- 52:08And when I'm using the term child soldiers, I'm talking 15
- 52:11years, people as young as 12 recorded as being militants for
- 52:16Hamas. Now that's a tragic situation
- 52:19for any soldier to find themselves in the amount of
- 52:24processing someone that's going to have to do it.
- 52:26You're faced with a 15 year old pointing a a heavy weapon at
- 52:30you, you have no choice. And so the the West reports a 17
- 52:37year old militant as a child. And so when you remove that, 50%
- 52:44of the people that were killed in Gaza were men, male, sorry,
- 52:51of fighting age. So age 15 to 60.
- 52:55That's in a place where the overwhelming majority of the
- 52:59population are under 18. And so the the numbers alone
- 53:06clearly, clearly lean into the fact that Israel is taking
- 53:09incredibleness. Not only that, no.
- 53:12But you can't. But you can't deny that there
- 53:14are women and children that are dead.
- 53:16Absolutely. That that we killed.
- 53:17We killed them. Yes, yeah.
- 53:19And that's why war is horrible. Yeah, now so that, So then.
- 53:22So then let me spin it like this.
- 53:23So imagine you were the last you on the world for a moment and
- 53:26you were given a choice. OK, You can either keep the
- 53:30Shabbat, you can keep Shabbos, OK?
- 53:33And you cannot worship idolatry, OK, and die as a Jew, right?
- 53:38Or you know, you, you can convert and you can leave
- 53:42Judaism behind and become an idol worshipper.
- 53:44Would you? What would?
- 53:45What choice would you make? So in that scenario I would die
- 53:52as a Jew because it affects other than myself.
- 53:55OK, so meaning you have more, you feel a moral obligation to
- 53:59to say that my life is not worth as much as these principles.
- 54:01These principles are worth more than my life, right?
- 54:04If we're killing innocent people, shouldn't that matter on
- 54:07a principal level, more than perhaps even our existence?
- 54:11No, no, absolutely. So it does matter.
- 54:13And if Israel were not taking those precautions, if Israel
- 54:17were doing what our enemies accused us of, I wouldn't be
- 54:20doing, I wouldn't be making the videos I'm making.
- 54:23I would be making videos that were critical of my nation and
- 54:26trying to bring my nation back to what I would believe to be
- 54:29the moral Jewish trajectory or path that we should be treading.
- 54:35I believe that because we are operate on this high moral
- 54:40level, hundreds of Israelis have died.
- 54:46Other nations would carpet bomb Gaza.
- 54:49They wouldn't have troops on the ground.
- 54:51Why? Why?
- 54:52Why risk one Jewish life if you can just drop a bomb and take
- 54:57out all of Rafa instead? I know friends who've lost
- 55:03children, who've buried children to try and preserve Arab lives
- 55:07in Gaza. So it is absolutely
- 55:10heartbreaking, genuinely heartbreaking.
- 55:13The innocent children, women and men.
- 55:15I don't know why we always just say women and children, you
- 55:17know, like an innocent man. We're we're both men.
- 55:20There's. No such thing as innocent men.
- 55:22Now I'm just. Yeah, I believe that.
- 55:30But Joseph, they're still dying. Meaning even with all of these
- 55:32things, look, even with all these precautions, which are
- 55:34wild because I don't think anyone else in the universe does
- 55:36what we do. OK, I'll say my opinion in a
- 55:39moment. But even with all the
- 55:41precautions that we're taking people, innocent people are
- 55:44dying. And is that, is that like the
- 55:47Shabba scenario that I gave you before?
- 55:49I mean, should we be killing innocence?
- 55:51No, it's to keep ourselves in the Shabba scenario.
- 55:53It affected only me. So I have no children.
- 55:55I have no people. It's am I going to be an
- 55:57idolater or am I going to dial Kadosh Hashan?
- 55:59That's basically or not even al Qaeda just dialed you.
- 56:03That's not what we're discussing here.
- 56:05If Hamas are able to retain a foothold in Gaza, the conflict
- 56:11will continue. More innocent people will be
- 56:14killed. Maybe that's my.
- 56:16Objective isn't. Well, maybe, maybe every, maybe
- 56:19every single innocent, maybe every single innocent Jew should
- 56:21die because. Because God forbid we kill one
- 56:24innocent people, 11 innocent person.
- 56:26Why do we need to be like the enemy?
- 56:28To some degree, I'm not just so I'm not so OK, you you can
- 56:32sacrifice the, the, the jet. Like remove Jews from this
- 56:36scenario. We're not talking Jews.
- 56:37We're not we're talking people. World War 2, Hitler, there was a
- 56:46huge war which brought about the destruction of the Nazis.
- 56:49Millions of people were killed to bring about the their demise.
- 56:54By destroying the Nazis, you ensured that millions would
- 56:57live. It's the same here.
- 57:01The purpose of the Gaza war is not revenge.
- 57:04It's not retribution. It's not a rampage.
- 57:08It's not a genocide. The purpose of the Gaza war is
- 57:11preventing Hamas or a group like Hamas from committing atrocities
- 57:16of this scale. Again.
- 57:17We've been locked into almost 100 people over 100 years of
- 57:21conflict in this region, and unfortunately, dialogue isn't
- 57:26going to work when dealing with a group like Hamas.
- 57:29The only way of dealing with Hamas is to to completely
- 57:33neutralize their capacity to attack.
- 57:35Nazism still exists. The idea is still around.
- 57:39You can meet one or two of them on my channel.
- 57:41But they've been pushed to the fringes of society and as a
- 57:45result, millions have thrived. And I believe it's the same with
- 57:49Gaza. Tragically innocent people,
- 57:53Jews, Muslims, Christians, less Christians in this conflict
- 57:57where the Jews and Muslims have died tragically.
- 58:02But if we were just simply to walk away from October the 7th,
- 58:09walk away. So with October the 7th, there
- 58:11was a moral obligation to return the hostages.
- 58:13But today, if we were to just walk away and leave Hamas in
- 58:16power, history would repeat itself.
- 58:18And each time it repeats itself, the death tolls increase, the
- 58:22conflict gets bloodier. So my position is at least is
- 58:26you neutralize Hamas, Islamic Jihad, those that can create
- 58:31further rounds of violence, and you lay the front that the the
- 58:34framework for coexistence in the region.
- 58:37I think that's a very pragmatic and sensible approach, but I'm
- 58:40interested in it. Yeah.
- 58:41OK, so my, my, my approach is as follows.
- 58:44You know, I'm a person of the book.
- 58:45So it's very clear in the Torah that killing a gentile innocent
- 58:50life is, is forbidden on a biblical level.
- 58:54So it's, it's not that Gentile wives don't matter.
- 58:56I got a biblical level. It is the same violation as
- 59:00killing a Jew. That being said, you look
- 59:03clearly from the laws that we got from Moses and from the
- 59:06sages that come after him. There's something called war.
- 59:09King David went to war. Many, many, many Jews have gone
- 59:12to war before, and innocence always die in war.
- 59:15It's very unfortunate, but that's the reality of the
- 59:17situation. So I don't think there's a,
- 59:20well, there is a genocide, not genocide in Gaza.
- 59:22I'll explain. There's not a genocide in Gaza.
- 59:24Why? Because there's no intent to
- 59:26kill innocent people. OK, maybe you'll find one or two
- 59:30IDF soldiers that just like you find one or two in every single
- 59:32population. The IDF and the Israeli and
- 59:35Jewish people do not want to murder innocent people.
- 59:37We don't. We don't because it is against
- 59:40what we, if you're calling us Jews, Jews don't believe in
- 59:42that. It's in the book that we can't
- 59:44do it. So it's antithetical, right?
- 59:46If we're a Jew, then we don't want to kill innocent people.
- 59:48So we have no intent to do that. If if we're going to have Hamas
- 59:52hide behind innocent people and because of that, innocent people
- 59:54are going to die because we're going to take out the
- 59:56terrorists. That doesn't mean that we're
- 59:58committing a genocide. In fact, that put the onus on
- 1:00:00Hamas that they're causing that to happen where we're expected
- 1:00:02to do nothing. So someone had a really big
- 1:00:04problem with one of the videos I made and she made a comment.
- 1:00:07She was like, really? So, Rabbi Dorfman, what you're
- 1:00:09saying is that if there was a Jew.
- 1:00:12And a half, there's a Jew that's being threatened by Hamas and he
- 1:00:15was hiding with eight different innocent families that you would
- 1:00:18bomb that house. I said, yes, So what if, if it's
- 1:00:22my life, if you're holding my wife hostage or my son hostage
- 1:00:25or my daughter hostage, the fact that you put innocent lives in
- 1:00:28front of yours isn't going to stop me from saving my family
- 1:00:30and saving my brethren and saving my life.
- 1:00:32So I don't think there's a genocide.
- 1:00:33However, I have to give it to the left and the others.
- 1:00:36They are right about 1 genocide that is happening in Gaza and we
- 1:00:39really do need to talk about it's not really being spoken
- 1:00:41about. See, genocide is the destruction
- 1:00:43of a part of a population and Israel is committing A
- 1:00:46tremendous genocide against the terrorist rapist that exists in
- 1:00:52in Gaza and were very effective. And for that genocide, I do not
- 1:00:55apologize. I applauded the Jewish people
- 1:00:57for doing it and I hope that the genocide goes global and every
- 1:01:00single rapist, molester, terrorist that wants to destroy
- 1:01:05and murder innocent people, they should be wiped off the face of
- 1:01:08the earth. So I, I guess I'm pro genocide
- 1:01:10in a, in a way, Joseph. So it's not my place to correct
- 1:01:12the amount of your learning, but I don't say that that's not a
- 1:01:15genocide. Genocide is the intent to
- 1:01:18destroy people in part a whole, as defined in a.
- 1:01:21Part apart, that's that's a part of a people, meaning Hamas.
- 1:01:24Hamas is part of a people, right?
- 1:01:26They are Palestinian. People, government.
- 1:01:28And the other thing I would say is I actually think Israel
- 1:01:30doesn't do as you described. Israel follows something called
- 1:01:35proportionality, and so depending on.
- 1:01:39They don't and I don't agree with that.
- 1:01:41I know. No, please do say it.
- 1:01:42But I but I'm I'm more extreme. I'll let you say it.
- 1:01:44So I shouldn't have interrupted you.
- 1:01:45Please go ahead. So I know it's good of speaking
- 1:01:48to a jihadi Jew. It's no from my but I think
- 1:01:55proportionality is important. If you have, for instance, a low
- 1:01:58ranking Hamas militant who doesn't pose a serious threat in
- 1:02:03that moment and he's in a home with his family, he hasn't got
- 1:02:07his weapon. I don't think there's grounds to
- 1:02:10to to kill him if you're going to take out twenty of his family
- 1:02:14even even his family. Why?
- 1:02:16You may kill your father one day.
- 1:02:17How do you know that? But he has at that point, he
- 1:02:20hasn't has all to do with potential.
- 1:02:22And yeah, everyone in Gaza has the potential to do that.
- 1:02:26But I believe we're, we're as a military, we operate on an
- 1:02:29incredibly high moral level. And I think that's because it's
- 1:02:32a Jewish military, even if it's been crafted the, the, the rules
- 1:02:37of engagement, the code has been crafted by secular Jews,
- 1:02:40religious Jews. It's they have inherited A moral
- 1:02:44framework from their ancestors. And it's why we develop
- 1:02:47incredible initiatives like a knock on the roof.
- 1:02:50What's a knock on the roof? Israel fire dropped a non lethal
- 1:02:54explosive above the roof to warn that there's something going to
- 1:02:59happen. You can watch videos of Israel
- 1:03:00aborting missions, even aborting the knock on the roof because
- 1:03:05they're civilians on the rooftop.
- 1:03:07However, if you hear Sinwa was in that same building, I'm
- 1:03:11pretty sure it wouldn't be aborted.
- 1:03:12Why? Because Yasinwa has the
- 1:03:15potential to murder millions, hundreds of thousands, 10s of
- 1:03:20thousands, hundreds of Jews. He has that potential as the
- 1:03:24leader of Hamas. Same with Nasrallah, same with
- 1:03:27Harmony. So in those instances, family
- 1:03:29members will be killed, but it's the individual themselves that's
- 1:03:33put their families at risk by choosing to go the path that
- 1:03:40they they've taken. So I, I differ from me.
- 1:03:43I actually I'm more aligned with the IDF in that every strike,
- 1:03:50every military decision should be weighed up against the target
- 1:03:53and the impact to the wider civilian population.
- 1:03:57Because where do you end? You end with his neighbors.
- 1:03:59Do you end with the, the neighborhood, the city?
- 1:04:02Like each way you have to make a decision at some point, when are
- 1:04:06you going to stop killing? And I think ultimately we have
- 1:04:11Israel doesn't release it's rules of engagement for obvious
- 1:04:14reasons, but it does have a very strict code.
- 1:04:18And if you're a sniper, you can have to get call in and get
- 1:04:22permission for shock the drone operator.
- 1:04:24You're going to operate on a very high moral paradigm, and
- 1:04:28I'm grateful that it does. And that moral paradigm comes at
- 1:04:32the expense of Jewish lives, tragically.
- 1:04:34That's right. That's right.
- 1:04:35Absolutely. Look, I'm, I'm happy that we do
- 1:04:37agree that the death of any innocent life is a tragedy.
- 1:04:41It's absolutely, it doesn't matter if you're a Jewish,
- 1:04:43Muslim, Christian. So it doesn't matter what you
- 1:04:44are. And I'm happy that we agree on
- 1:04:46that. But yeah, I guess we, we just,
- 1:04:48we just disagree in terms of the, the degree of, of what
- 1:04:51lengths we have to take to save a possible, a possible Jewish
- 1:04:55life. I I respect your opinion.
- 1:04:59OK, what, what is the strongest argument do you think, against
- 1:05:03Israel? You're fighting for Israel.
- 1:05:04What's the strongest argument against it?
- 1:05:06And the reason why this is so important, especially for our
- 1:05:08listeners, is I encourage you to look at a Talmud.
- 1:05:12It is really, really long. And if you think it's all about
- 1:05:14a bunch of rabbis agreeing to things, then you're sorely
- 1:05:16mistaken, right? Our criticisms is the places
- 1:05:19where we can improve as a nation.
- 1:05:21So, Joseph, what are we doing wrong?
- 1:05:22How can we improve as a nation? I mean, there are many, many
- 1:05:26areas we're doing unfortunately, we're not we're not perfect.
- 1:05:33We make many mistakes internally to do with my how are we crisis,
- 1:05:38how we are as a society to military campaigns to
- 1:05:44geographically. So as an example, Judean Samaria
- 1:05:47is a disaster. You have half a million Jews,
- 1:05:53150,000 Muslims living or Arabs living in Area C, and it's
- 1:06:01spiraling, a lot of control here.
- 1:06:03We signal to the world that we believe in A2 state solution and
- 1:06:09we build billions of dollars of infrastructure, roads,
- 1:06:13communities, which is in complete contradiction.
- 1:06:15I speak to Arabs on the ground every day and they tell me that
- 1:06:19they want Israel to come and give them citizenship.
- 1:06:21Like, like forget Palestinianism, A Palestinian
- 1:06:25state. They just want to exist.
- 1:06:27So that would be an example in Gaza, there was going on three
- 1:06:31years and we're still not in Gaza City.
- 1:06:33We should, we should be from the, the, the border to the sea
- 1:06:38from and we're not because of international pressure there.
- 1:06:42There are so many areas that it's on a societal level, the
- 1:06:46secular and the religious huge, like fighting.
- 1:06:50Well, for a second, for a second for for the in the Palestinian
- 1:06:53conflict, before we get to the the religious, not religious,
- 1:06:56which is important. What's the biggest argument in
- 1:06:57the Palestinian conflict? I didn't.
- 1:06:59I didn't completely understand what.
- 1:07:00You're saying about? You mean the biggest argument
- 1:07:02against Israel? Yes.
- 1:07:07I don't know if I'd say there's the.
- 1:07:10It's hard to say what the biggest is.
- 1:07:13I think one of the. Good one, surely?
- 1:07:14One of the biggest, one of the biggest challenges that we face
- 1:07:19is democracy, what it is to be a Jewish state under democracy,
- 1:07:25which one would give. And so people constantly talk
- 1:07:29about demographic majorities. That's an issue because how do
- 1:07:33you ensure a Jewish majority? And Ireland, which has a large,
- 1:07:37I have a population. So I think that's one of the
- 1:07:40strongest challenges that I'm aware of that people make.
- 1:07:43Is it at some point one of them may have to give you either a
- 1:07:46democracy or you're Jewish unless you find some way of
- 1:07:51controlling population quotas, which doesn't seem to us.
- 1:07:55I think that's a strong challenge that they make.
- 1:07:57I mean, we are a Jewish democracy at the moment, but in
- 1:08:0150 years time they say Jude and Samaria is completely annexed.
- 1:08:05I think that would that could pose a serious demographic
- 1:08:09threat. I think Jude and Samaria is also
- 1:08:13a very strong challenge. We signal to the world that we
- 1:08:17are we preview pre pre October the 7th.
- 1:08:22Let's say we signal to the world that we believed in A2 state
- 1:08:25solution. Every Prime Minister of Israel
- 1:08:27gave lip service to it. And yet we built up huge
- 1:08:31infrastructure, huge communities and my Muslim neighbors that I
- 1:08:35speak to every day when I'm in Judaism, maybe they they've very
- 1:08:40aware of the reality that these communities aren't going
- 1:08:43anywhere. Anyone who goes to beta or
- 1:08:46modinally knows that these communities are not going
- 1:08:49anywhere. Anyone that drives the biblical
- 1:08:51Hwy. Route 60 knows that this isn't
- 1:08:54going anywhere. And so I think if Israel was
- 1:08:59just honest and said that we've abandoned the two state
- 1:09:01solution, let's find another way to coexist in the land, I think
- 1:09:05that would be very beneficial for all parties.
- 1:09:10Do you think that that we're that the reports are true that
- 1:09:13there are Palestinians that are being mistreated and there is
- 1:09:15brutality that's going on? Yeah, it's, it's a fringe of a
- 1:09:21fringe. It's a fringe of a fringe.
- 1:09:23But yes, absolutely. There were Israeli Jews that
- 1:09:26have done horrible things to Palestinian Arabs, to Muslim
- 1:09:30Arabs. Just say if you go to any nation
- 1:09:32in the world, you will find members of its citizens that
- 1:09:35have done erectus things. A few years ago there was a 16
- 1:09:39year old Palestinian boy who was burned to death.
- 1:09:43Burned to death because he was say he was from East Jerusalem.
- 1:09:47So I don't know if I'd use the term Palestinian, but a
- 1:09:49Jerusalemite Arab was murdered by Jewish extremists.
- 1:09:56Like, yes, we have extremists. Yes, we're not.
- 1:09:58I mean, we're not perfect people.
- 1:10:00As you said. If we were, Mashek would be
- 1:10:01here. And so yes, there are Jews that
- 1:10:03have mistreated Arabs, but it gets blown out of all
- 1:10:07proportion. As an example, you hear about
- 1:10:10settler violence. That's the most one That seems
- 1:10:13to be the shift of where the battles move in as Gaza days
- 1:10:16down is around quietens as the Houthis just get back to eat in
- 1:10:20the Hut. The the the the the the conflict
- 1:10:27is shifting to Judea and Samaria.
- 1:10:29When you hear Settle of island, settle of island, settle of
- 1:10:31islands. The UN put out a report 8000
- 1:10:34Instances of settle of violence between 2016 and 2023 I.
- 1:10:41Just I just want to. Write 2016 and 2023 around 8000,
- 1:10:47just north of 8000. I'm going to cite some of those
- 1:10:51examples. 16 percent 16% of settle of violence reported by
- 1:10:57the United Nations as recorded by Regevium and all a very good
- 1:11:01organization who meticulously recalled what happens in Judea
- 1:11:05and Samaria I'm. Sorry, do they do they do they
- 1:11:08still do that? Yeah, there's a Regevium is a
- 1:11:11great organization if you want to understand what's going on in
- 1:11:15Judea and Samaria from to contradict the, the the the
- 1:11:20mainstream Western narrative. That's not so important.
- 1:11:23That sounds so critical. Yeah.
- 1:11:25And and yet the EU just sanctioned them for doing that.
- 1:11:30So it's yeah, it's so they're doing very, very important work.
- 1:11:35And so they found 8000 examples, 16% of them, 16% were Jews
- 1:11:41visiting Kaha by it. Now, I don't know what your
- 1:11:45position on Jews on the Temple Mount is, but ignoring
- 1:11:49halachically whether you're for or against them, ignoring that
- 1:11:53that is in no shape settler violence.
- 1:11:55They're also included in that 16% Palestinians or Jerusalem
- 1:11:59Arabs on of Muslims on the Temple Mount attacking the
- 1:12:04security services. So again, that's not settler
- 1:12:07violence by any stretch. Another 19% of them.
- 1:12:10I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I don't even understand that one.
- 1:12:12Meaning if a if a Jerusalemite Arab attacks a Jewish police
- 1:12:16officer, that's settler violence.
- 1:12:18Yes, according to the United Nations.
- 1:12:22Further, 19% of them were people trespassing.
- 1:12:27So you're a Jew, You go on a hike in Judea, you visit the
- 1:12:32ancients. I One of the things I love doing
- 1:12:33with my kids is bringing to NAFTA life.
- 1:12:37Yeah, for sure. I lived in the UK and Judaism
- 1:12:40was distant. It was for a child very
- 1:12:44difficult to connect to here. You Start learning what you're
- 1:12:47sure. You Start learning about the
- 1:12:48conquest. You can visit the cities.
- 1:12:50You go for a hike. Not only can you go and visit
- 1:12:52the sites, but you can dig around in the ground and find
- 1:12:55artifacts. Like near my house is a second
- 1:12:58temple period ruin. You can find little tiles of
- 1:13:01mosaics on the floor still to this day.
- 1:13:04But it just brings to night to life.
- 1:13:06If you are like me and you enjoy doing this, if you happen to
- 1:13:09wander into area BR, area A, up even Area C, the United Nations
- 1:13:14can record that a settle of violence.
- 1:13:17You haven't harmed anything. You haven't tore up an olive
- 1:13:20tree. You haven't thrown a stone at
- 1:13:21somebody. You've simply walked in the
- 1:13:24footsteps of your ancestors. You're being violent.
- 1:13:28According to the United Nations, that's 20%.
- 1:13:30Another 20% was trespassing with damage to buildings or trees, or
- 1:13:39so you you accidentally stop an olive branch on a tree.
- 1:13:43Congratulations, you've participated in settler
- 1:13:46violence. And So what I'm doing with all
- 1:13:48of this is highlighting the mockery of these.
- 1:13:51Now, are there Jews, we don't even know if they're settlers a
- 1:13:54lot of the time, But are there Jews, Israeli Jews in Judea and
- 1:13:58Samaria that have done bad things?
- 1:14:00Yes, absolutely. Vigilante violence that one of
- 1:14:04the things I'm dead against, for instance, is price tagging.
- 1:14:06I think price tagging is a bad idea.
- 1:14:09Price tagging is the idea that if a terrorist murders a Jew and
- 1:14:14that terrorist comes from a particular village that has a
- 1:14:16bad reputation, then the village is going to pay a price.
- 1:14:21And so I think that's a terrible strategy because not everyone in
- 1:14:25that village is going to be guilty, deal with the person,
- 1:14:27the actual perpetrator. So there are there are examples
- 1:14:31of Israelis doing bad things in Judea and Samaria, but when you
- 1:14:35actually get into the numbers, they're so insignificant.
- 1:14:38Why is it front page news that a Jew has raised a flag in an
- 1:14:44abandoned building in Area C just east of Bethlehem?
- 1:14:49Why is that headline news when there's literally Christian
- 1:14:51villagers burned to the ground with children, beheaded and torn
- 1:14:55away and stolen, taken as slaves?
- 1:14:57That doesn't make the news. But a Jew raising a flag in a
- 1:14:59village, an abandoned building east of Jerusalem?
- 1:15:02That's the front page of the BBC.
- 1:15:05Nothing explains it other than the biblical narrative.
- 1:15:07There is a disproportionate focus on the Jewish people.
- 1:15:11And so, yes, to answer your question, there are Jews that do
- 1:15:14bad things in Jews and Samaria, but there they're a tiny, tiny,
- 1:15:18tiny percentage of our people. Thank God.
- 1:15:20I will say, will say that I really like what you just did,
- 1:15:23and I think that we should encourage our own to do the
- 1:15:25same. When there is settler violence.
- 1:15:27If there is, I don't know. When there isn't, there isn't.
- 1:15:29I don't know how to sift through news, but because there's so
- 1:15:32much disinformation, we should condemn it.
- 1:15:34We should absolutely condemn it because it is wrong.
- 1:15:37It's absolutely wrong. OK, so you know you invoked Ace
- 1:15:43of Sonas Yaakov right? The biblical narrative that we
- 1:15:46are going to be hated. Why are we?
- 1:15:48Why are we hated? You get you have contact with
- 1:15:50the say 5 hours on a daily basis.
- 1:15:52OK, So what? What is the why?
- 1:15:54Why do people hate us so much? So I should be asking you the
- 1:15:59question. You're more qualified than than
- 1:16:00I am certainly for that to give an answer.
- 1:16:02I want to hear your answer first.
- 1:16:04For my lived experience, it is the greatest reminder of who we
- 1:16:13are, what our mission is. So the Jewish reaction to
- 1:16:20genocide, the Jewish reaction to hate genuinely like the
- 1:16:23Holocaust is, is not to return kind with kind, but is to be a
- 1:16:29true or look, I'm a true light unto the nations.
- 1:16:32And when I was living in October the 7th, I was still living in
- 1:16:41Hosler. As I was living, I was still
- 1:16:43living outside of Israel. I was living in the UK, in
- 1:16:46London. And I witnessed family members,
- 1:16:50I witnessed hundreds of people that I knew that were completely
- 1:16:55secular suddenly starting to connect, suddenly starting to
- 1:16:58realize what it meant to be Jewish.
- 1:17:01So I think there are many reasons for anti-Semitism, but I
- 1:17:06think it all ties into the ultimate redemption, the the
- 1:17:10Meshif and the the Jewish return, the return of the Exiles
- 1:17:14to the land. There is no greater reminder of
- 1:17:20the significance of what it is to be Jewish than to have that
- 1:17:24ripped away from you. To, to, to experience the
- 1:17:27suffering that our people experienced on October the 7th.
- 1:17:30To experience the Holocaust. In the wake of the Holocaust, it
- 1:17:33gave birth to a religious movement that has now seen more
- 1:17:37Jews in education than ever before in our history.
- 1:17:42And they happen to be in Israel. The majority of them.
- 1:17:45We have more people learning Torah in Israel than the land of
- 1:17:48Israel in the way before Holocaust.
- 1:17:50Yeah. And I think there's a direct now
- 1:17:54I'm not for a second going to try and explain why the
- 1:17:58Holocaust happened is beyond any of our pay checks is.
- 1:18:04But what I would say in the wake of the Holocaust, we saw the
- 1:18:07return of the Jews to the land. We saw more Jews learning Torah
- 1:18:11than ever before. I think more than any generation
- 1:18:16before us, we could say that we are experiencing the prongs of
- 1:18:22the messianic, the birth prongs of the messianic era.
- 1:18:25It's from the nations that are involved to the the places that
- 1:18:31it's happening to, prophecies literally manifesting before our
- 1:18:35eyes, the desert blooming, the return of the Exiles.
- 1:18:40It says the Jews will know the Torah please God soon.
- 1:18:44But we have more Jews learning Torah than ever before.
- 1:18:47You could imagine very easily a world where you have it.
- 1:18:50For me a temple and how about it?
- 1:18:52So for me, anti-Semitism is is part of the divine plan.
- 1:19:01But I wouldn't possibly try to speculate as to what that word,
- 1:19:09what its function is, in the same way that I believe
- 1:19:11Christianity and Islam are part of the divine plan.
- 1:19:14Christianity and Islam have put the names of our great great
- 1:19:19grandfather Jacob on the tongues of billions of people with some
- 1:19:25little nomadic desert tribe from the Middle East.
- 1:19:28Yet everybody in the world knows who we are and so anti-Semitism
- 1:19:33has a function. I, I would hate to try and
- 1:19:38explain it away because it is beyond comprehension, but I
- 1:19:42think you can observe what happens after the Jews suffer
- 1:19:48the kind of traumas that we have suffered in our history.
- 1:19:51And the the the the most obvious ones been October 7th and the
- 1:19:55Holocaust to our generation and see the impact that's having on
- 1:19:59the Jewish people and on the world in general.
- 1:20:02I think in terms of a 'cause there's something very unique
- 1:20:05about the Jewish people and how they go about their identity.
- 1:20:09Number one, Jews are incredibly stubborn.
- 1:20:11OK, but that's not exactly yet you see, Christians and Muslims,
- 1:20:15they don't claim to be the chosen nation per SE.
- 1:20:19They claim to have the chosen way, right?
- 1:20:22Jews, we're very, very proud nation.
- 1:20:26We're proud of the fact that we are not.
- 1:20:27We don't. We didn't just choose the chosen
- 1:20:28way. We are the chosen people.
- 1:20:30God chose us. And there's a high bar for, for
- 1:20:33being accepted into our nation. It's incredibly difficult versus
- 1:20:36other religions. Growing up in Yeshiva and
- 1:20:39Talmudic academies, you know, my rabaeum, my rabbinical masters
- 1:20:43would always say, well, there's a midrash that says that the
- 1:20:47gentiles are going to be jealous of Jews.
- 1:20:50And I didn't completely understand that, but I think
- 1:20:53that this may be a part of it. You know, I think that we, we
- 1:20:56are proud of it. And I'm not necessarily sure
- 1:20:58that that's, that's a bad thing. We're honest.
- 1:21:00And, and I think that does absolutely cause a, you know, a
- 1:21:06jealousy. You not to come out and, and for
- 1:21:08people to really, to really have a problem with that.
- 1:21:11But I think that we lead by example, as you said, right?
- 1:21:14We lead by example. We show the truth, we show the
- 1:21:17right way, and eventually it's our acting as the paragon, which
- 1:21:21as you said is an Orla Guyam, that that brings a lot of
- 1:21:24amazing, amazing truths, truths to the world.
- 1:21:29OK, so we're nearing the end. There's only a couple questions
- 1:21:32that I have left for you, but what would you say is the most
- 1:21:35common misconception that Muslims have about Jews other
- 1:21:42than perhaps the one that you've very you know, you told us that
- 1:21:44in the Quran itself that says that Jews are allowed and
- 1:21:47supposed to be living in the Holy Land and vice versa.
- 1:21:50What do we as Jews not understand about Muslims?
- 1:21:58So I think one of the the biggest misconceptions about the
- 1:22:05Jewish people is actually what you touched on.
- 1:22:08It's to do with in that in the Quran, it says Fidel Tokum al I
- 1:22:12mean that we were preferred favored above other nations.
- 1:22:17And they read into that and arrogance.
- 1:22:22And it's a message which is kind of repeated throughout the Quran
- 1:22:26that were the killers of prophets that we were rebellious
- 1:22:29people. And they therefore think that
- 1:22:34this applies to all Jews for all time is a general if you were to
- 1:22:40go through the the various commentators who've written
- 1:22:44tafsir on the Quran who've written commentaries on the
- 1:22:47Quran, This tends to be the the pervasive theme that were this
- 1:22:51rebellious people that Allah the God abandoned because we
- 1:22:57abandoned God. And what they don't realize is
- 1:23:02that that's the same criticisms I found in the Torah I found in
- 1:23:08the Tanakh. These are criticisms that our
- 1:23:10own book makes of our answers. Not that all Jews for all time
- 1:23:14are, but in various generations there rose up bad kings.
- 1:23:18The the people weren't following the law as they should.
- 1:23:21And that's why prophets were sent.
- 1:23:22They were sent with a message to bring us back to the the law of
- 1:23:26Moses. And so I think one of the
- 1:23:28misconceptions that Muslims have is that that means that we were
- 1:23:35abandoned, that the the covenant was cancelled and that we are
- 1:23:40this accursed people as a consequence.
- 1:23:42We're not accursed people. And they're learning that to
- 1:23:46their detriment today because they keep rising up to to
- 1:23:50slaughterers and not they, but many Muslim armies keep doing
- 1:23:54this and losing. And so I think they
- 1:23:57misunderstand how Jews see ourselves, what it means to be
- 1:24:01of the, the seed of Jacob rather than Abraham, and what it means
- 1:24:09what the Quran is actually translate.
- 1:24:11Because the Quran is just a copy and paste of the Torah.
- 1:24:14And most of the critics, it kind of gets a few things wrong.
- 1:24:17But by and large, it tries to just repeat the, the biblical
- 1:24:21narrative. So much so it says that if
- 1:24:22Muhammad's having doubts he about the, the prophecies he's
- 1:24:26receiving, he should speak to the, the Jews for, for clarity,
- 1:24:30because we understand the prophecies, which is
- 1:24:33interesting. And so, and I think that's
- 1:24:36probably the biggest thing they get wrong is believing that we
- 1:24:39are accursed and abandoned people.
- 1:24:41Obviously, I don't believe that. I'm a religious Jew and I think
- 1:24:44we live in an age of incredible, but I thought incredible
- 1:24:49blessings. And so, yeah, I think that's the
- 1:24:52biggest misconception they have. What do we have wrong about
- 1:24:56them? I think one of the things that
- 1:25:10we we miss it depends who we is because I think different Jewish
- 1:25:19committee religious Jews will have a very different experience
- 1:25:22of the Muslim world to say progressive Jew living in
- 1:25:24America. And so first I think it you have
- 1:25:28to determine who the we is with that question because they will
- 1:25:33have very difficult a progressive Jew in America
- 1:25:36believes the the Islamic value system is completely compatible
- 1:25:44with the West. It clearly is not.
- 1:25:47They're, they're a big, I mean, one of the I make many videos
- 1:25:51with gays for Gaza. It's.
- 1:25:55Funny. No, and it's fascinating because
- 1:25:57they literally, they will tell you that the people in Gaza,
- 1:26:01Hamas, Islamic Jihad, they're just grateful that they've got
- 1:26:05allies in the West. And if they came into contact
- 1:26:07with them, they'd be made-up, tolerant, maybe they'd even
- 1:26:09incorporate the, the trans flag into the green Hamas flag.
- 1:26:15They spoke to us. So they have they, they get that
- 1:26:19wrong. I think as religious Jews, I, I
- 1:26:26actually don't think religious Jews get that much wrong about
- 1:26:30Muslims because I think most religious Jews don't know the
- 1:26:32first thing about Muslims. So it's.
- 1:26:35More like we can't get anything right.
- 1:26:37Yeah, it's just there's an incredible ignorance as to who
- 1:26:42Muslims are, what they believe. I, I, I think, I think one of
- 1:26:47the biggest things we get wrong is if you, if you do, if let's
- 1:26:51say, I'm not going to say all Jews, but there's a section of
- 1:26:53Jews that believe that Islam is completely incompatible or
- 1:26:57Muslims are incompletely incompatible with Jews that are
- 1:27:01terrorists. Is even or not even if they're
- 1:27:03all, if it's just 15% of the Muslims are the extremists,
- 1:27:08that's 150 million people. And I think that's the
- 1:27:15overwhelming majority of Muslims are actually quite ignorant to
- 1:27:19their faith, not quite incredibly in the same way that
- 1:27:22most Jews are. Do you speak to the average Jew?
- 1:27:25And I don't mean this to speak I'll of any Jew, but if you
- 1:27:27speak to the average Jew in America, they don't know the
- 1:27:31first thing about Judaism. You go to Tel Aviv, you'll find
- 1:27:35the exact. So the only thing, the only
- 1:27:37advantage with a Tel Aviv Jew of an American Jew is an American
- 1:27:40Jew thinks in American, A Tel Aviv Jew thinks in Hebrew.
- 1:27:43So at least he's thinking Jewish, but they can be just as
- 1:27:47ignorant to to the tradition. The same is true for most
- 1:27:50Muslims. I was I had a fascinating
- 1:27:52conversation the other day. I went to a Palestinian and Arab
- 1:27:55village in Judea and called Tabor and they had a distillery,
- 1:28:01a brewery there. And I was speaking to the the
- 1:28:04woman who, who was running the distillery.
- 1:28:07And I said, so who's who's your, your main customers?
- 1:28:11And she looked at me and said that them locals.
- 1:28:14I said, but aren't they all Muslim?
- 1:28:16It's just like, yeah, you've got to be a pretty lap savvy That's
- 1:28:21you've got basically eating, eating a bacon sandwich and then
- 1:28:24drinking a bottle of beer is the bacon sandwich is a bit worse,
- 1:28:27but the the bottle of beer is not far behind it.
- 1:28:30And so I think most Muslims are actually quite lapsed and quite
- 1:28:33ignorant to their religion as a general rule.
- 1:28:37I've had a good chunk of contact with, with Muslims here than
- 1:28:42just me growing up, but but more than that, as I come from a
- 1:28:44hybridized parenthood. So my, my mother's parents are
- 1:28:48from Morocco, Casablanca and Fez.
- 1:28:50So lots, lots of contact and lots of stories.
- 1:28:53And I think that, I mean, there's one thing that I think
- 1:28:54that the Western general gets wrong about Muslims and I'm
- 1:28:58actually very an envious in a way that I think that they have
- 1:29:01that, that we don't have enough of.
- 1:29:03It's, it's their faith, it's their adherence to faith.
- 1:29:05I think that's something that we absolutely could learn from our
- 1:29:08Muslim brother. And, and what I mean by that is
- 1:29:11that their their allegiance to what they believe in, even if at
- 1:29:15times they believe the wrong thing, even according to their
- 1:29:17own faith, their allegiance to what they believe is true is
- 1:29:21really laudable. To take this to an extreme, I
- 1:29:24did this once on the show. I got a lot of kickback.
- 1:29:26I'll do it again because I still think it's true.
- 1:29:30I hate Hamas, but there's one thing about them that I think
- 1:29:32it's positive that they're willing to live in tunnels and
- 1:29:36eat nothing and starve for what they believe in.
- 1:29:39What if we did the same thing? What if we were just so, so
- 1:29:43insanely focused on spreading God's word on, on doing the
- 1:29:47right thing that we'd be willing to to lose every single comfort
- 1:29:51that we had in the world? I think that that's a really
- 1:29:53beautiful thing. And so sometimes we feel, I
- 1:29:55think again, the Western general, let's sit at the table,
- 1:29:57let's make a negotiation. We forget that the person on the
- 1:30:00other side of the table, it's not negotiation for some of
- 1:30:02that, for some of the things that they believe in.
- 1:30:04You can't. There's no amount of money that
- 1:30:06you're going to give them that's going to be able to make them
- 1:30:07deviate from that which they believe.
- 1:30:09So there has to be a respect for that in the West, but I think
- 1:30:13there's it's not always understood.
- 1:30:15So I would just say to correct you on one thing is we, we did,
- 1:30:19we did live in, we did sacrifice and live in tunnels.
- 1:30:22We just did it 2000 years ago during the back of revolt.
- 1:30:25It was just 2000 years ahead of them.
- 1:30:27That's all. We were in tunnels.
- 1:30:30I say corrected. I accept that.
- 1:30:32I accept that correction. I, I, I do agree with you.
- 1:30:34I actually don't think it's even contradictory with what I was
- 1:30:37saying to. I was saying that most Muslims
- 1:30:39are lapsed. I've done it a couple of times.
- 1:30:41I've asked Muslims, would you sacrifice your life for Masjid
- 1:30:46Alexa, the Alexa mosque, the holy mosque in Sola?
- 1:30:51Inshallah I get the honor and Sola, I get the the, the jihad
- 1:30:56for for Alexa. And then I pull up an image and
- 1:31:00say, can you point to it? And I have a few different
- 1:31:02masjids and every single time they get it.
- 1:31:05Wrong. They get.
- 1:31:05It wrong willing to die for it, but they can't even recognize
- 1:31:08the Masjid. And so I think that represents
- 1:31:11like that that there is a certain Iman in in Arabic faith
- 1:31:15that the the Muslims have that is envious or we should be
- 1:31:21envious as the wrong word. We should.
- 1:31:23We should aspire to, to, to be. Aspiration.
- 1:31:27As as yeah, yeah, it should be. We should aspire to be as
- 1:31:30faithful to to to the Torah, to Kaddish.
- 1:31:34Bar who? You've been doing this for more
- 1:31:37than 10 years. Are you different?
- 1:31:38Is Joseph now different than the Joseph and you know, 2014 have?
- 1:31:42Changed so I was left wing socialist anti Zionist when I
- 1:31:48first started I think and see that one.
- 1:31:52Coming. Yeah, I'm not not hardcore, but
- 1:31:55was very, very sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, was more
- 1:31:59familiar with Chomsky and the Lakes or the arguments they
- 1:32:02would use. And so, yeah, I, I've been on
- 1:32:07quite a journey. So 10 years ago wasn't secular,
- 1:32:12but a few years before that completely secular as well.
- 1:32:15So yeah. Or maybe not ten years ago,
- 1:32:17let's say 15 years ago. 10 years is too soon.
- 1:32:20So what this this fight has made you more sensitive to your
- 1:32:23faith, more nuanced? It's more than anything has made
- 1:32:29me realize the the value of my faith.
- 1:32:33What's the point of so you touched on it before you said
- 1:32:37the Well, we said that the Jewish people have accomplished
- 1:32:40a great deal. They've accomplished a great
- 1:32:44deal because of the faith. It's the faith is the Torah
- 1:32:47that's shaped who we are and preserved who we are.
- 1:32:52And I think that's the if you remove if you remove that, there
- 1:32:57is no value to being Jewish. It's just an ethnicity.
- 1:33:01It's just your your DNA, your genetics.
- 1:33:05And I actually the legacy of Yaakov of you know, isn't the
- 1:33:09blood isn't that we descend from a great man.
- 1:33:12It's the tradition that this people has preserved and the
- 1:33:18impact that's had on on humanity.
- 1:33:20And there's many people that have impacted humanity in a
- 1:33:22positive way. But I happen to belong to the
- 1:33:25Jewish people. So that's what I'm touching on.
- 1:33:28And so, yeah, I think without without that, with that, there
- 1:33:34isn't any purpose to being Jewish.
- 1:33:36It's the religious aspect that shaped the culture, that's
- 1:33:42preserved the people and that's shape the culture, which has
- 1:33:48shaped humanity. So yeah, there's tremendous
- 1:33:50value in being religious. And I didn't recognize that
- 1:33:53growing up because I was released with raised with the
- 1:33:56tradition that religion is the opiate of the masses.
- 1:34:00And I sincerely believe that. And it was Rambam and ironically
- 1:34:04A Reformed rabbi who woke me up to to be more purpose to to life
- 1:34:10than just a secular existence. I think you're one of the few
- 1:34:13people that can claim that are a former rabbi having
- 1:34:15conversations with neo Nazis and Muslims who wanted to kill you
- 1:34:18made you more religious. To you.
- 1:34:22It's quite a crime of fame. It's quite a crime of fame.
- 1:34:25Jews living outside of a Verticeville, living outside of
- 1:34:29the land of Israel. You know, it looks so bleak.
- 1:34:32Is there? Is there really hope?
- 1:34:33Perhaps there is because as you said, that trend might be
- 1:34:36changing in a bit. But what do you see going
- 1:34:38forward in the West and the East?
- 1:34:40Is there is there hope for Jews outside or is this the time to
- 1:34:43come back in? I mean, what I would encourage
- 1:34:45you is to get ahead of the curve and just if you can, if it's
- 1:34:48within your means, return home. It's the best thing that my
- 1:34:53family's done. It's it sounds a really weird
- 1:34:59thing to say given the content that I make.
- 1:35:03But I barely pay attention to politics, politics outside of
- 1:35:07Israel today. And that's because it seems like
- 1:35:14you're investing energy into something that's ultimately
- 1:35:18futile. The Jews are going to return
- 1:35:20home. anti-Semitism. It was going to spike is maybe
- 1:35:24we'll get better for a while, but it will rise up again.
- 1:35:27And if it's not you, it's your children.
- 1:35:30But ultimately, we're all going to leave.
- 1:35:33It'll go nation by nation. I believe maybe France is the
- 1:35:36first may be followed by the UK, but it will become unbearable.
- 1:35:41I, I the best example actually is the the Muslim world.
- 1:35:44There used to be a million Jews in the Muslim world, 850,000 in
- 1:35:47the Arab world. Now I don't know.
- 1:35:51I don't know American synagogue, so I'm not going to try.
- 1:35:53But let's say there's probably more don't know.
- 1:35:56Probably there is certainly more Jews in a random Lakewood
- 1:35:59synagogue than the entire Arab world combined.
- 1:36:04And the only thing that's propping up the numbers in the
- 1:36:07Arab world really is Morocco. They've got like 2 to 3000 Jews
- 1:36:10still left there. And Emirates has a few growing
- 1:36:14community. But by and large, the Jews have
- 1:36:17fled the Muslim world. Why?
- 1:36:19Because anti Zionism became mainstream.
- 1:36:22Anti Zionism, when it becomes a mainstream political platform,
- 1:36:28the fate of the Jews is not good.
- 1:36:32It's not good that the Jews will flee and that's going to happen
- 1:36:35in Western nations. I believe in the UK you had
- 1:36:39politicians elected on a purely, purely anti Zionist platform.
- 1:36:45I think there's nine MPs. When you've got politicians in
- 1:36:49the West elected because they're anti Zionist, the fate, the
- 1:36:53future is not looking good for Jews.
- 1:36:55So I think just get ahead of the curve while you can still afford
- 1:36:59a property in Israel. Yeah, You know, if you've got a
- 1:37:03big house in America, trade it in for small apartments in
- 1:37:06Jerusalem. Well, I mean, I would, I would
- 1:37:09recommend for your listeners and my listeners, there's a
- 1:37:12wonderful book that I read once that talks about the importance
- 1:37:16of, of the land of Israel, you know, to Jews.
- 1:37:20You know, if you're comfortable, I would, you know, if you can
- 1:37:22promote it to your own audience as well.
- 1:37:24But it's the Old Testament, the only Testament.
- 1:37:27God doesn't stop talking about it, neither does Moses.
- 1:37:29I would encourage people to read it.
- 1:37:31I mean, it's all about three things.
- 1:37:32It's all about Torah, the Temple, and the Land of Israel.
- 1:37:36So you can't really remove one of those pillars and expect that
- 1:37:39chair to stand. It's not going to happen.
- 1:37:41No, it's, it's a great book. I I also endorse it.
- 1:37:43I read it every week. It's fantastic.
- 1:37:48You touched on the last topic that I wanted to ask you about.
- 1:37:51Is it possible to be anti Zionist and not anti Jewish?
- 1:37:57Or because we both know that that anti Zionist are not anti
- 1:38:00Jewish not anti-Semitic Is is this excuse that the West is
- 1:38:04using to just hate Jews right you?
- 1:38:06I think you mentioned even before.
- 1:38:07Is it possible to have someone that's just anti Israel not anti
- 1:38:10Jewish today? So yes, but not anti Zionist.
- 1:38:13So you could be anti the state of Israel, you could be anti all
- 1:38:16states if you're an anarchist and you want to see the
- 1:38:18abolition of all nation states. And I'm not going to call you an
- 1:38:21anti. So you say, Mike, as you want to
- 1:38:24treat Israel the same way you treat every other nation.
- 1:38:27But if you single out Israel and only Israel because they've been
- 1:38:34anti Zionist, just so everyone knows where as you believe that
- 1:38:36the Jews should not have a state in this land.
- 1:38:40If you've seen it, then I, I think it's impossible.
- 1:38:42That is by definition and designers because you're saying
- 1:38:45all these are the people, including the Palestinians are
- 1:38:48worthy of a state, but the Jews now.
- 1:38:51So I don't think you can be, you could be anti government
- 1:38:53policies, but if you're looking to exclusively call for the
- 1:38:57abolition of the world's only Jewish state, I, I, I think that
- 1:39:01is synonymous with anti-Semitism.
- 1:39:05So much so I years ago made a video with anarchists for
- 1:39:11Palestine. Like make that sense.
- 1:39:13I think it means the abolition of states.
- 1:39:16You're so undesigned as that you want to see the Palestinian
- 1:39:19state built in place of the Jewish 1.
- 1:39:21So yeah, I I think anti Zionism is just a synonym for
- 1:39:26anti-Semitism. It's just the acceptable face.
- 1:39:28You can't say. And is it, it's even more now.
- 1:39:31I mean, they just talk about the Talmud all day and all night.
- 1:39:36And there was what the is it? What is some verse firm son
- 1:39:42Hedren got to do with your opposition to the Netanyahu
- 1:39:46government? There's there's no connection
- 1:39:48there. And so depending on the business
- 1:39:52and Hedren, maybe there is a connection, but with the ones
- 1:39:54that they're quoting, there isn't.
- 1:39:57And so, yeah, I. I I think anti Zionism is just a
- 1:40:04synonym for anti-Semitism. It's the acceptable face.
- 1:40:08Yeah, I'd agree with you. And by the way, I on the, on the
- 1:40:10Talmudic point, I, I feel bad for gentiles because if you're a
- 1:40:13Jew quoting any passage from the Talmud, it's so difficult
- 1:40:17because it's it's the whole thing is in riddles.
- 1:40:19So even as Jews have to sit for hours and really, you know,
- 1:40:22philosophize, if we're really good to true, you know, meaning
- 1:40:25of anything. Anyway, Joseph, what would you
- 1:40:27like to leave our listeners with?
- 1:40:29What message would you like people to know?
- 1:40:33The writings on the wall come home.
- 1:40:36Beautiful Joseph, I am so thankful for you being with us
- 1:40:39here today and sharing your wisdom.
- 1:40:41Everyone Israel, Advocacy, advocacy, what's I think there's
- 1:40:44one more work. Movement, Movement.
- 1:40:46Joseph Cohen, you're. Fine everyone.
- 1:40:49Everyone should look Joseph up. Joseph and I are both asking
- 1:40:52every single person. Don't let the propaganda and
- 1:40:54just stay out there with no voice.
- 1:40:57OK, let's fight, let's show the truth.
- 1:40:59Let's all come together. Let's really try to show more
- 1:41:02God in this world. And together we'll bring them
- 1:41:04aside and have Amina quickly in our days.
- 1:41:07Amen. Thank you very much, Joseph.
- 1:41:09Be well.
