- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talk sed B.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Let's talk about the Warriors, because the Warriors are staying
- 0:18Speaker 2: on Sky. Sky has secured the NRL for another seven years,
- 0:22Speaker 2: from twenty twenty eight to twenty thirty four. The mega
- 0:24Speaker 2: deal is rumored to be worth sixty one million New
- 0:26Speaker 2: Zealand dollars a year. Sophie Maloney is obviously the boss
- 0:29Speaker 2: of Sky.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Hi, Sophie, you are to Heather, How are you doing?
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm good? Thank you. Did I just interrupt a phone
- 0:33Speaker 2: call with Cam George? You did?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Cam was just calling to say he's very stoked about
- 0:39Speaker 3: the deal, as am. I really really thrilled. You know,
- 0:42Speaker 3: seven years up to twenty thirty four, because this doesn't
- 0:44Speaker 3: start until twenty twenty eight, is absolutely huge for us.
- 0:48Speaker 3: So yeah, really excited.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Are the rumors true? Is it sixty one million dollars?
- 0:53Speaker 3: Oh no, I'm not going into value, but we will
- 0:57Speaker 3: be talking to our shareholders and due course about approval
- 0:59Speaker 3: because you know, a seven year deal and when you've
- 1:01Speaker 3: got a market cap like we do, you just got
- 1:03Speaker 3: to go and have a conversation with them. What I
- 1:05Speaker 3: can say heither is, as always, we've been super disciplined
- 1:09Speaker 3: and our approach was very clear on the margin that
- 1:11Speaker 3: we can drive and we're just absolutely thrilled to security
- 1:14Speaker 3: is right.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Okay. So the rumor that's going around is that you
- 1:17Speaker 2: paid we'll do it an Aussie dollars, that you paid
- 1:19Speaker 2: thirty five million dollars OSSIE for the deal that you're
- 1:21Speaker 2: in right now, and that you've now just paid fifty
- 1:23Speaker 2: million dollars Aussie for the deal that you're going to take,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and that the reason it's been pushed up is because
- 1:28Speaker 2: TV and Z bit against you. Even if you don't
- 1:30Speaker 2: want to talk to us about the specifics, talk to
- 1:32Speaker 2: me about the principle. Is this a problem for you guys,
- 1:35Speaker 2: that TV and Z is now in there and forcing
- 1:37Speaker 2: up what you have to pay?
- 1:40Speaker 3: No, we look, I think TV and ZED doing a
- 1:43Speaker 3: great job. The feat of tournament is congratulations to Jody
- 1:46Speaker 3: and her teams. It's an amazing tournament. We approach these
- 1:52Speaker 3: bids by looking at our business and what value we
- 1:54Speaker 3: can drive. What I can say is that the three
- 1:56Speaker 3: that we're offering with three and three now is absolutely vital,
- 2:00Speaker 3: and so we're looking at what we can drive from
- 2:02Speaker 3: our subscription business and then with our advertising partners, and
- 2:05Speaker 3: we are super comfortable that what we had put forward,
- 2:09Speaker 3: which isn't those levels, is absolutely where we need to
- 2:12Speaker 3: be and having a seven year deal up to twenty
- 2:15Speaker 3: thirty four we think is great value for customers and
- 2:19Speaker 3: our shareholders.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Okay, so how does the free to wear part work?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Where do you put the where do you put the
- 2:24Speaker 2: games there?
- 2:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so we'll be looking to go on on three
- 2:28Speaker 3: and three now this is from twenty twenty eight, so
- 2:32Speaker 3: most likely one game a week lied to delay to
- 2:34Speaker 3: the Premiership, the women's competition, state of origin. It's going
- 2:39Speaker 3: to be a super compelling three to wear pack and
- 2:41Speaker 3: that was a really really important part of the discussions
- 2:44Speaker 3: with the Australian Rugby League Commission Andrew Abdoi, the chief executive.
- 2:49Speaker 3: We've got a lot of time for but I think
- 2:51Speaker 3: that was a bit of a game changer, to be honest,
- 2:53Speaker 3: in terms of us securing all rights.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Are we getting a second team?
- 2:58Speaker 3: Good question. Hither there's definitely one for the Commission that
- 3:01Speaker 3: wasn't distermissive of our value. We've valued it up based
- 3:04Speaker 3: on what we've got and we do love our Warriors,
- 3:06Speaker 3: so in a way he needs just kicked off. I
- 3:09Speaker 3: went to Hamilton to watch their first game, which was great.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Hey, is this Friday the last episode of Dutton Ranch?
- 3:16Speaker 2: Is it?
- 3:17Speaker 3: Heather? It is? But don't panic because the Agency is
- 3:23Speaker 3: an excellent spy thriller and.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I know you can't do this to me. I want
- 3:28Speaker 2: to know about Beth and RiPP. Are you are you
- 3:30Speaker 2: watching this?
- 3:32Speaker 3: What's this?
- 3:33Speaker 2: The dutt't Rune?
- 3:35Speaker 3: Oh of course I am, but I'm a little bit
- 3:37Speaker 3: behind because they've been a little bit the line with
- 3:40Speaker 3: my paint. However, I know you've criticized me before before
- 3:44Speaker 3: my some of my local shows. You this time bust up.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I highly highly recommend it. If you don't like it,
- 3:52Speaker 3: I'll buy you something A bottle of wine.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But no, no, I want a bottle of whiskey.
- 3:57Speaker 3: You know that that's it. I do know that. But yes,
- 4:01Speaker 3: looks Superstokes very excited and don't worry. There's a lot
- 4:04Speaker 3: more great content on me on for you, Heather.
- 4:06Speaker 2: We got you looking forward to it, Sophia, look after yourself.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Thanks mate, Sophie Maloney, Sky TV CEO.
