- 2:05To Man Talk 133 with Shaul and Daryl.
- 2:09What's happening everybody? What's going on, brother?
- 2:12Hey what's going on bro? How you feeling?
- 2:14Man do it man, you know, we thank everybody for joining
- 2:17again man, welcome back to the show welcome back to the show.
- 2:21So you know, bro, May is a mental health awareness month
- 2:26and I don't think we, I know a lot of people didn't talked
- 2:29about it and you know, 'cause it's, it's the month, the month
- 2:35we're about to be talking about it.
- 2:36So guess what? Tag we it?
- 2:38You know what? I'm saying, yeah, 'cause like I
- 2:40say, you know, you got Mother's Day and graduations and Proms
- 2:44and all of that. So they kind of kind of gloss
- 2:46over, you know what I mean? Yeah, that's a little bit man.
- 2:48And so, you know, I, you know, I did some research on it, man.
- 2:53And you know, I, I, I guess my question is mental health
- 2:57illness, illness, what causes it?
- 3:01You know what I'm saying? You got so many different forms
- 3:04of, of mental, mental health, you know, things like, you know,
- 3:12so I was like, you know, you know how you see people like
- 3:16back where you from and they used to be standing on the side
- 3:19of the road talking to themselves, doing all that kind
- 3:22of crazy stuff. And we, you know, people pass it
- 3:24all this man, they just, they drunk dog, they own them, you
- 3:28know, they say they own them crazy pills.
- 3:30Yeah, yeah. And.
- 3:31With that and and back in the day, that was a, that was them
- 3:36fighting words. Somebody.
- 3:38You know, somebody say you owe them crazy pills.
- 3:42And that's what the problem is now man.
- 3:44Like the reason why some people don't get help because you know,
- 3:48they, they're, they're afraid somebody going to say, you know,
- 3:51you owe them crazy pills. Yeah, what that was saying, that
- 3:54was a fight for real on it. You know what I'm saying?
- 3:57You know, it will, you know, give you a mental blow to the
- 4:00gut. But somebody to say that, but I
- 4:03mean, it is what it is, you know, if you if you like that in
- 4:06that situation, you need to you know, you need to do need to
- 4:08take them pills though and you know, get yourself some help and
- 4:11heal and heal, you know what I mean?
- 4:13Get yourself some healing man. For real.
- 4:15That's a. Fact.
- 4:16But I do understand though, like you know what I'm saying?
- 4:18Like like you said, oh crazy pills.
- 4:21Like don't nobody want to be attached to that?
- 4:23Do that at all? You know what?
- 4:26I'm saying. Yeah, I feel you.
- 4:28It ain't funny, but that back in the day, legitly those were
- 4:32fighting words. If you told somebody that was on
- 4:35crazy pills, you fight on on site and there ain't no question
- 4:39about it that. So as I was as I was doing my
- 4:42research doc, I found out, you know, it was a lot of different
- 4:45the common most common types. The first one is clinical
- 4:50depression. The persistent feeling of
- 4:53sadness or loss of interest that characterizes major depression
- 4:58can lead to a range of behavior or physical symptoms.
- 5:01This may include changes in sleep, appetite, energy, energy
- 5:06level, concentration, daily behavior, or self esteem.
- 5:11Now this one is mostly can be associated depression also can
- 5:16be associated with thoughts of suicide.
- 5:20I I. I kind of think, man, this may
- 5:24be the most common 1 I don't know.
- 5:26Let me let me put that little disclaimer in there.
- 5:28We are not mental health counselors, right?
- 5:33So the information we're given is for educational purposes
- 5:38only. I would suggest you can read.
- 5:42Don't go and say man talk 133 with Charlie and Darryl told me
- 5:47this, right? Go see it for real license
- 5:52first. Don't say we did say nothing.
- 5:55I'm this is for and I want to be clear doc, it's for educational
- 5:59purposes only. OK, so, but I I kind of think
- 6:04this is like one of the major ones.
- 6:08That you hear. About a lot the clinical
- 6:10depression. OK.
- 6:13Yeah, the one I just read. Man am I got a delay or
- 6:16something? Oh, you good?
- 6:17You good on. This one, yes, the the clinical
- 6:20depression, what I just read, because you think about it, most
- 6:23people when they when they have depression starts, they they
- 6:28change in sleep. They either sleep a lot, losing
- 6:33lose the appetite. You know, they concentration
- 6:36they can't really focus on. You know what the ask at hand.
- 6:41You know, they just kind of they just out there in this face, you
- 6:45know what I'm saying? Self esteem low.
- 6:47Don't get haircuts no more. Don't get to help, don't watch.
- 6:50The hell None of that. Yeah.
- 6:53You know what I'm saying? You said that clinical where you
- 6:55know, and then too, man, I guess you know, I don't know if you
- 6:57had that one up there, but I look at too is, you know, like
- 7:01sometime for me, depression or either like the mental health
- 7:06aspect of it, you know, can be like environmental.
- 7:10It's like where they they're. Down.
- 7:12Say again, like where they can't.
- 7:16Yeah, I think your sound went out one time.
- 7:17But you're good though, OK. Break that down for me.
- 7:21I mean, you know, like the environment that like an
- 7:23environmental situation is like, you know, like the neighborhood
- 7:27you grew up in or the household you may have grown up in.
- 7:30You might have seen some stuff in the household.
- 7:33Like some people may have abusive parents or they may see
- 7:37their mom and their dad abusive to each other.
- 7:42Yeah, you know, and that can kind of take an effect or either
- 7:44like like like another another good one too, is where
- 7:49environmentalists like when like when a divorce happens, you
- 7:54know, the kids can't cope because they used to seeing that
- 7:58the two parents in the household and when their dad is out come
- 8:02more likely their mom's going to have the the child anyway, the
- 8:06OR children. And so they used to seeing their
- 8:08dad every day in the household, you know, and their dad ain't no
- 8:11longer in there, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:13They'll take effect on them too. And then they'll let, they'll
- 8:15lash out at the mom or they'll lash out with any at anybody,
- 8:18you know, or you know, sometime today, they may think it's
- 8:21today's fault, but really, it ain't today's fault.
- 8:25Yeah, that's true. That true that.
- 8:27Yeah, man, that those are good points too.
- 8:29And the next one is anxiety disorder symptoms that include
- 8:34stressed, stressed, that's out of proportion to impact to the
- 8:41impact of the inability to set aside wary and restlessness.
- 8:46You just can't folk just can't get rid of the restlessness.
- 8:49They just the wary that's there all the time.
- 8:52You just every morning they wake up, it's there, right?
- 8:57Don't go nowhere. And you know, some people like
- 9:00that, you know what they think it is, man, it's lack of, you
- 9:03know, I just say, hey, man, I think I'm doing too much, I'm
- 9:06working too hard. You know, I think that what it
- 9:08is. No, no, no you.
- 9:11You might need to get that checked out.
- 9:13Yeah, for women, that's where, that's where it stems to back to
- 9:17when you said like like guys and women.
- 9:21Women, yeah. Don't like to go to the, they
- 9:23don't like to go to the doctors, but I can't say they're women
- 9:26than women. They they do have a better track
- 9:28record than we do as far as doctor visits.
- 9:30Oh for sure, yeah, they definitely get in there and get
- 9:32it checked. Yeah, and a woman and a woman.
- 9:34One thing about a woman that they ain't going to be afraid.
- 9:37A lot of them, they're going to be afraid to be like, hey, doc,
- 9:40I mean, I got something going on mentally, you know, tell other
- 9:44women or other people, whatever, you know, to talk about or
- 9:47whatever. But we'll keep it in this guy so
- 9:48that like you said, we, you know, like, oh, I'm just tired
- 9:53or, you know, I need to slow down with that restless.
- 9:58They definitely would do that and but y'all need to get this
- 10:00stuff checked out because you know, I'm just going down the
- 10:02list of the most common ones and they were going to get get into
- 10:05some other stuff as the show progressed.
- 10:07Bipolar disorder. Manic episodes may include
- 10:11symptoms such as high energy, a reduced need for sleep, loss of
- 10:16touch with reality. Depressive episodes may include
- 10:20symptoms such as low energy, low motivation, loss of interest in
- 10:25daily activities, mood episodes that last days to months at a
- 10:31time and all may also be associated with suicidal
- 10:36thoughts. Like that's got to be like one
- 10:41of the worst ones. I would I would say that all
- 10:45ain't none of them good. But this one here bro, you, you,
- 10:48you don't you lose touch with reality bro.
- 10:51Like you can fly off a building or something.
- 10:54Yeah, man, and you know, like, you know, we we know, like I
- 10:58said, we as in like when I used to work with guys, I work with
- 11:02like we've encounter Co workers that were like that, you know,
- 11:06like one minute, especially like on the female side, like, you
- 11:09know, we we was Co Ed. So you had to work with, you
- 11:11know, men and women, right, It was just straight guys or
- 11:14straight female, right. And some days, man, you might
- 11:17have some women come to work and some guys they'll come to work
- 11:21man. And you know, when they come in
- 11:23in the morning, they just is fine.
- 11:25You know, just like, you know, hey, how y'all doing this or
- 11:27whatever. About 15 minutes later they'll
- 11:29beat them flipped out like, you know, you know, on top of their
- 11:32voice. Why you you don't don't be over
- 11:33here talking no, this that or whatever.
- 11:35You know this. I'm like, we everybody be
- 11:37looking like why are they hauling across this thing?
- 11:40Somebody else, like somebody, is harming them.
- 11:44And they don't even know it. Yeah.
- 11:45And then they'll go back to Ground Zero and probably about
- 11:49another 30 minutes or so and. Then it's like, that's crazy,
- 11:52right? And it's like that like normal,
- 11:54like then they sitting in the lunch room or lunch area with
- 11:57people. We just seen them have episodes,
- 12:01but they sitting down at lunch even with everybody, just like
- 12:04ain't nothing happened earlier. Right.
- 12:06That's that's and you know, that's wild, man.
- 12:09Yeah, like you said, that's that's one of the all of them
- 12:11bad. But that's really the weird the
- 12:13wildest one to me too. Yeah, man, like it, like it,
- 12:17it's crazy because like you think about it, man, like and
- 12:20they think it's just how they are and that's how I am.
- 12:25Yep, you know what I'm saying? Just that's just me.
- 12:28I've been like this all my life and you've been, you've been sub
- 12:33dealing with bipolarism all your life, probably because you just
- 12:37your parents didn't want to take you because they they already
- 12:40knew that the crazy pill thing was out and they ain't going to.
- 12:45Yeah, they. Didn't want nobody to know their
- 12:47child's on the crazy pills. Yeah, man, like you said, you
- 12:51know, that's crazy 'cause you know, like you said, you know,
- 12:53they don't want their child to be connected with that, with the
- 12:58crazy people, you know what I'm saying?
- 12:59So and another thing and another thing real quick too, man, is
- 13:02like when you dealing with people like that, like on the
- 13:05job, you know what I'm saying? Like we had, I've had
- 13:08experiences with that. And when you come to work, every
- 13:13time you come to work and you got to be around them, you got
- 13:15to, you got to kind of check the temperature with them.
- 13:18Yeah. Walk on themselves around them.
- 13:20Yeah, if they, if they are, you know, like, oh hey, how y'all
- 13:23doing today? This it's it's going to be a
- 13:25good day for a while. Right.
- 13:27But if they coming in in the morning, I know some people that
- 13:30are watching this video, they probably like, man, I work with
- 13:33someone, someone so so right now and they like that.
- 13:35It's like that. And so when you go in in the
- 13:37morning and it's like my man or or my man or home girl ain't
- 13:42saying nothing. And you know, you just beat
- 13:44y'all or everybody been chopping it up with them like the last
- 13:46few days, like on the regular, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:48And you walk in the next day and they ain't saying nothing.
- 13:51They just like to look like they want to be alone.
- 13:55They, they, they, they just let's let them.
- 13:57That's called, that's what I call checking the temperature.
- 13:59When you see them like that, just go on and stay away from
- 14:02them until until they come around.
- 14:05Yeah. And then then once they come
- 14:07around, you can. Yeah, then you can have a a
- 14:10regular conversation. If not, yeah.
- 14:15And that's what I'm saying, man. Like, you know, it's you.
- 14:18I, I, I wouldn't say that is more prevalent in the black
- 14:23neighborhood. I just know that we we black, so
- 14:27we grew up around it. We can speak on it.
- 14:30So we can speak on it. So I don't know what the
- 14:32statistics is in the, you know, the other races and stuff like
- 14:38that. And I didn't think to look up
- 14:40the statistics because I ain't think we're going to go this way
- 14:42with it. But we get ready to come up
- 14:44against a break. So when we get back we're going
- 14:47to finish up talking about we're going to go into like dementia,
- 14:51schizophrenic and then some other stuff.
- 14:53So we'll jump back into that right after the break, y'all.
- 18:24Military broadcast radio The station that's giving veterans a
- 18:28voice. Find us.
- 18:30On the web at MB radio dot. Opinions expressed in this
- 18:34program are those of the speakers and do not necessarily
- 18:39reflect the views or positions of any entities they represent.
- 18:45Welcome back to Man Talk 133 with Shawl and Daryl Thinker
- 18:49about it for joining the show. So we know we talking about
- 18:54mental illness and what causes it.
- 18:57So we left off with we were talking about bipolar.
- 19:01So the next one up is dementia. Now this got to be a tough one
- 19:05too, bro. I all of them, like we said, all
- 19:08of them bad, but this one got to be tough.
- 19:10It's simply include forgetfulness, limited social
- 19:14skills and thinking abilities so impaired it interferes with
- 19:19daily function. So just imagine a person driving
- 19:24and getting lost and don't know how to get back home.
- 19:29Then they may not know how to call nobody and then the memory
- 19:32come back. Yeah, I think that's what
- 19:35happened to a lot of older elderly.
- 19:36At least I know elderly, like when you see them on the news
- 19:39when they had what they called it the Amber Alerts, not the
- 19:42Amber Silver Alert. Yeah, Amber Alerts when they get
- 19:46the kids looking for the kids. But their Silver Alert is, well,
- 19:51no, here in North Carolina, I can't know what.
- 19:53I don't know. It's probably the same across
- 19:55the board. I don't know what it is with
- 19:56other states like Cali and all that where Cali family is
- 19:59watching, but Silver Alert. Over here, but like when they're
- 20:04looking for the elderly people like, you know, you've seen
- 20:06plenty of times when they may be looking for like a grandmother
- 20:10or something like that. And she was on the way from her
- 20:12home to to the kids home or something like that.
- 20:15And she never made it. You know what I'm saying?
- 20:18So that like you said, it's it is.
- 20:20That's wild, man. That, yeah, that's, that's a,
- 20:23that's a, that's a tough one. That and schizophrenia.
- 20:26Schizophrenia is characterized by thoughts or experiences that
- 20:29seem out of touch with reality, disorganized speech or behavior
- 20:35and decreased participation in daily and decreased
- 20:39participation in daily activities, difficulty with
- 20:43concentrating and memory may also they may not be present,
- 20:49you know, they may use a memory and all that stuff like that.
- 20:52You talking about this one and what's the other one?
- 20:55We talked about that, that out of touch bipolar.
- 20:58Bipolar. They they.
- 20:59Yeah. Well, I guess don't they say
- 21:01them together? Bipolar, schizophrenia, bipolar.
- 21:04Yeah, I think they along somewhere along they're the
- 21:07same. They might, they look the
- 21:09difference that I may see, you know that I may, you know, see
- 21:13on that is, I think, like you said, that schizo, you don't you
- 21:18don't really you you don't remember what you did like you
- 21:21just may fly out to go crazy or whatever.
- 21:23You know what I'm saying? I don't remember.
- 21:25But even though bipolar people may not remember, you know, like
- 21:28they just blanked on somebody too, you know what I'm saying?
- 21:30But I guess I think I guess it's a different with their schizo.
- 21:33It just seemed like, you know, you more likely to harm
- 21:36yourself. Yeah, man.
- 21:38And you know and others you know.
- 21:40Yeah, Ferran Dozier. Hey, tap in, you know, let us
- 21:45know. I know, you know, your show, you
- 21:47talk, talk about a lot, you know?
- 21:49So tap in, man, and let us know 'cause we, you know, we got
- 21:52questions. I'm reading and trying to
- 21:53educate, but also, you know, got questions, you know what I'm
- 21:57saying? Like.
- 21:58Right. So we can, yeah.
- 22:00So we can educate. You know, like we tap in with
- 22:03him on his show, with their show in Cali.
- 22:05We can tap, you know, we can spread the love over here on the
- 22:07East Coast. Yeah, for sure, you know.
- 22:10What I'm saying, you know, with that, with that mental health
- 22:13card, like I said, that mental health, you know, need to be
- 22:15spread abroad. You know what I'm saying?
- 22:17Because like I said, I know he he has some pretty good stuff on
- 22:19that mental health. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 22:21So yeah, you tap us in man in the in the comments and just let
- 22:24us know what's, you know, give us some, you know, some feedback
- 22:28and stuff like that. OOCD often sentenced on themes
- 22:34such as fear of germs or the need to arrange objects in a
- 22:39specific manner. Symptoms usually be getting
- 22:42gradually and varied through our life.
- 22:44It ain't funny, but yeah, they want everything funny, man.
- 22:51Yeah, it ain't funny. But you know what though?
- 22:54But I know what. You're saying like.
- 22:56It's a fine line because you think about it though, like it's
- 22:59some people, man, they just like order.
- 23:01Like, you know, the military people, they like it's they've
- 23:04been doing it for like 30 years. So they like they stuff, hung a.
- 23:09Certain way and they they real, you know, they clearly, you
- 23:12know, they got a lot of cleanliness with them so they
- 23:14clean, you know, so like they may want this on the on the on
- 23:18the coffee table or whatever and you better not move it.
- 23:21I don't want you to touch. That got the remote line of a
- 23:26certain way they're coming and you to mess with him until
- 23:29somebody been to pay. You heard me.
- 23:31Hey man, you off the chain for real?
- 23:33You know, you got the remote remote controls lined up like,
- 23:37don't you? Don't you take it?
- 23:40Yeah, it ain't funny, It ain't funny, but I'm just saying some
- 23:43people like. You don't you don't.
- 23:45You move my Netflix remote. They got into a line up down
- 23:51from long. That's yeah, that's Wildman.
- 23:54And they do better not touch it. Or if you do, how to go and get
- 24:00it, that post traumatic stress disorder.
- 24:04Some may include nightmares or unwanted memories of trauma or
- 24:09of situations that bring back memories of trauma that are
- 24:13heightened. You know, like, for example,
- 24:15like it's, I know I've heard some people say and you, you
- 24:17making the test of this. I've heard some people that have
- 24:20been in war, they heard they heard loud noises boom, you
- 24:25know, to send them into you know, or send them into
- 24:28something, you know, like, you know, back into like that trauma
- 24:33and you know, they like, you know, some of them can some
- 24:36women they've been raped. They smell a certain Cologne.
- 24:39The guy that accused it, that had it on, that's.
- 24:42Trigger man, you know what I'm saying?
- 24:45That's that's that's wildlife. That's deep that you brought it
- 24:47up because I know you know, some stuff that triggers, you know,
- 24:51like you said, with the topics that we're talking about, but
- 24:54not, you know, I've never really, you know, I thought
- 24:56about, you know, let do you never.
- 24:58I think I guess people kind of gloss over that.
- 25:00Like you never really hear people talking about like that,
- 25:04you know, like you might, you may wear a certain type of
- 25:07Cologne and it may trigger a female or whatever that you
- 25:12make. You know that that may brings
- 25:14back nightmares. You know what I'm saying?
- 25:15Yeah, it may make them think of their ex-husband, how they want
- 25:18to cut his throat. Right, that's right, and that's
- 25:21real 'cause like I said, you would never know.
- 25:24You would never. Know they're going through like
- 25:27you just got that specific type of Cologne on and it's just like
- 25:31Trigger. And she just mean to you all day
- 25:35you just you, you the you the target for the day bro you just
- 25:41exactly you go to DMV and it's already you know aligned and you
- 25:48go in and you got that Cologne. You know you stopping that
- 25:50Cologne keep going. And it hit her in the nose and
- 25:53it remind her of her ex-husband. She said I'm going to make him
- 25:56pay today automatic. She's smiling.
- 25:59She smells that Cologne and she's.
- 26:02Exactly like you said DMV they already they already mean in
- 26:06there anyway so. Yeah, for real.
- 26:08Yeah, so, but yeah, but this is. But that is interesting though.
- 26:12No, for real, it is, it is man, how that stuff could really, you
- 26:17know, like the gunpowder can take people back to a certain
- 26:20place. If they were in war, they got
- 26:22shot or somebody they loved and got shot and they smell
- 26:26gunpowder can take them, you know, to that place, dog, where
- 26:29they, you know, that trauma, that place fireworks.
- 26:33Yeah. For real.
- 26:34For real man. Fireworks usually get me
- 26:36sometime. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 26:38Yeah, I'm like, hold up. What's that?
- 26:40Yeah, hold. On y'all now I got shot at.
- 26:43A lot of people ain't know that. Right.
- 26:46You're right, you know, So, yeah.
- 26:48So fireworks like, say stuff like that can count them, you
- 26:51know? Yeah.
- 26:53Trigger you Hold on, bro, everybody get out dragging
- 26:56everybody to the ground wait, bro, this 4th of July cut get
- 27:00off me bro. What you doing exactly You're
- 27:04right. Yeah, for real, man.
- 27:06So but yeah, what causes the next one I want to know what
- 27:13causes a chemical imbalance in the brain.
- 27:16Wow, you know, you know, it's it's one of the things, man,
- 27:24that we you know how it is how we use you.
- 27:27You know you you know how you get on and then everybody love
- 27:32you. They want to call you, they want
- 27:35to talk to you. You start recording dog.
- 27:38Hey I love y'all but I love you baby but I'm in the middle of.
- 27:46Recording right? Exactly.
- 27:48But yeah, So what causes a chemical imbalance in the brain?
- 27:53Chemical imbalances in the brain are particularly involving
- 27:57neurotransmitters can stem from a variety of factors, including
- 28:02genetics, environmental influences.
- 28:05You talked about that earlier about the, the air, you know,
- 28:08environment, trauma, stress, sepsis, abuse, and even
- 28:14lifestyle choices like diet and sleep.
- 28:17While the exact, while the exact or mechanisms and causes are
- 28:24complex and not really fully understood, these factors can
- 28:28disrupt the delicate balance of brain chemicals, potentially
- 28:33leading to various mental conditions.
- 28:37And you, you, you probably remember this, how like you have
- 28:42one family member is like this and the whole family like that.
- 28:49Yeah. So so that's one of the things
- 28:52genetics some individuals may inherit disproportion to
- 28:58chemical imbalances influencing their what he whereas he has
- 29:04tied me up success successful susceptibility susceptibility to
- 29:11mental health conditions like depression or anxiety.
- 29:14Like, you know, some, some kids, they get it, you know, they,
- 29:18they get it from, from their parents or they either their
- 29:22grandparents passed down. But you know what the crazy part
- 29:25is, if you're ready to come up against this break real quick.
- 29:28But you know, the crazy part about it is the whole family
- 29:31think it's normal. Everybody in the family, they've
- 29:36been dealing with it so long that they think it's normal.
- 29:40They think it's normal for him to sit there and then gnaw on
- 29:42his nail. When my daddy did it, my Mama do
- 29:46it yeah and it and it's just like no bro, it's it's really
- 29:50some little underlying things that's going on dog, and we're
- 29:53going to jump back into when we come back, we're going to jump
- 29:56onto into the environmental side like you was talking about Y'all
- 29:59right at the break. All right.
- 33:43Military broadcast radio The station that's giving veterans a
- 33:48voice. Find us.
- 33:49On the web at MB Radio. Opinions expressed in this
- 33:54program are those of the speakers and do not necessarily
- 33:59reflect the views or positions of any entities they represent.
- 34:04Welcome back to Man Talk 133 with Sean and Daryl.
- 34:08Well, I said that quick dinner. Yeah, man, I the way you said
- 34:11it, I thought the storm was on the way.
- 34:15For real. Well, I would say we we got
- 34:18Tornado watches and everything going.
- 34:19On Yeah man, but. You not but you not play that
- 34:23song by Mitch Russell because it was it was relating to post
- 34:30traumatic. If you listen at the words he
- 34:32was saying, yeah, you know, he was at he was talking about the
- 34:36fireworks. You, you just talking about
- 34:38that. You talking about the, the
- 34:40gunpowder, all that. That's that's something he he
- 34:44dealt with and still dealing with based on the song that he
- 34:48you know that he wrote, you know what I'm saying?
- 34:50And so, yeah, I, so let's the, the one he was talking about,
- 34:54man, was environmental and social factors, traumatic
- 34:58events, chronic stress and exposure to harmful stuff,
- 35:01substances can significantly impact brain chemistry and
- 35:07neurotransmitter levels. You won't really talk about
- 35:10this, but you were talking about being in the, in certain
- 35:13environments. You know how, you know, you grow
- 35:17up in the hood, You know, they got, they got a certain level of
- 35:20PTSD. They go out the house, they got
- 35:22to make sure. Yeah.
- 35:24Hey bro, I got to make sure everything ain't right.
- 35:27Yeah, man, and like you and like you just said too, before we
- 35:30went to break another add another layer to that.
- 35:34Like you were saying too, you know, they're tied right in with
- 35:37environmental like you were saying, like certain families
- 35:42that keep having kids their their kids are suffering from
- 35:47mental illness in the evening, they're having kids and they
- 35:51keep having kids and they keep having kids and so on.
- 35:55And it's almost like, I don't want to say it like this, but
- 35:58you know how they say it in the hood, like, hey, this whole
- 36:01that, that whole family crazy. You know what I'm?
- 36:05Saying, you know, yeah, so they need to be on them.
- 36:09Right. And you know, like I say, you
- 36:10know, that's that that's like like you said that ties in with
- 36:12environmental. You know what I'm saying?
- 36:14Like, like you saying they, they, they don't know how to I
- 36:18guess, know how to get the proper help, you know what I'm
- 36:20saying? They see, like you said, they
- 36:22see before we went to break, you said, you know, like you said,
- 36:24they see that homeboy, you know, is biting his fingernails off or
- 36:29whatever his daddy did it or whatever, or whatever the
- 36:32problems may be. And they just pass it down from
- 36:35generation to generation, you know what I'm saying?
- 36:37So. For real man.
- 36:39And then, you know, like when they do that and they pass it
- 36:42down from generation to generation manager, all they do
- 36:44is continue to cause the trauma. You.
- 36:47Know severe trauma, you know, severe emotional trauma can
- 36:52disrupt brain chemistry, particularly in limbic in the
- 36:56limbic system leading to long term changes in mood and
- 37:00behavior. You know then it goes stress
- 37:04chronic stress can alter neurotransmitter levels
- 37:08contributing to anxiety, depression, and mental health
- 37:12issues. I'm going to stop right there
- 37:13for a minute because that stress.
- 37:16Peace Dog. Like some people don't even know
- 37:20they dealing with stress. Yeah, silent killer.
- 37:23Yeah, they they don't even know that they dealing with stress
- 37:27and they go day in and day out, day in and day out, day in and
- 37:31I'm good, I'm good and I'm good now I'm good now for real.
- 37:34I'm good. Then they'll work for you know
- 37:36it. Then back in the days they have
- 37:38a saying, you know, people go post them.
- 37:41Right, right. And then they go I guess they
- 37:45came from people shooting up both offices or whatever, but
- 37:48they go post it and then go to because they suppressing the
- 37:52stress instead of getting help for it.
- 37:55And just so they know the next one, alcohol don't help.
- 37:58Substance abuse and drugs don't help it, does it?
- 38:02Actually, alcohol abuse of alcohol and drugs can mimic
- 38:07neurotransmitter activity or disrupt their normal function
- 38:11and lead into chemical imbalances and potentially
- 38:15addiction. Like you said, they it it just I
- 38:19guess the the alcohol. You know how alcohol make people
- 38:25feel right? They go and do stress and make
- 38:28them feel good until. We're all yeah, too.
- 38:31We're all. And another thing to tap back in
- 38:33on what you said too, about the, about their stress, they don't,
- 38:37they don't know they got stress. A lot of people, a lot of people
- 38:40don't realize, but when they really stress like that and they
- 38:43don't, they may not feel it. They may get other ailments
- 38:49because of the stress. And they're wondering like, man,
- 38:51how did I get this, this chronic back pain, whatever it may be or
- 38:56something, you know, because you know, I've known some people
- 38:59that like, you know, develop like, like plantar fascias in
- 39:04their feet, stuff like that. They wonder how, how did they
- 39:07get that? Or like the like TMJ, Like I, I
- 39:12know, I just know the acronym. I can't remember what it is, but
- 39:15it's a big long word. But it's like it.
- 39:17It affects like your joints and your jaws.
- 39:19That's crazy, right? Yeah.
- 39:21And I've known people that have that like, you know, like they,
- 39:23they wonder why did they get that development like that?
- 39:27And they have stress and they're clenching their they're
- 39:30clenching their jaws when they sleep.
- 39:32I know, you tell me they grind their teeth.
- 39:34Grind the teeth. Yeah, the dental, dental people
- 39:36tell you that too. So, yeah, yeah, people like that
- 39:39have, you know, and that that goes back to what you were
- 39:41saying about, you know, what you were saying earlier.
- 39:45Yeah, man, it's, it's kind of crazy, man.
- 39:46And then I think, you know, everybody probably can have
- 39:50these hormonal imbalances, fluctuations or imbalances and
- 39:53hormones can impact the brain chemistry and mental health, you
- 39:58know, IEED, you know what I'm saying?
- 40:04It imbalances off and it can be affecting my man's mental
- 40:08health. Like, you know, he, you know, he
- 40:10used to that now it's out of here.
- 40:14So now you got to he got to figure out a way to 1st wrap his
- 40:19man around his mind around because his manhood gone.
- 40:22Right, I'm saying for a little while you make him feel less
- 40:25than a man when you I guess you can't perform is you know, it's
- 40:28kind of you're like, Dang, bro. That's why you got to go.
- 40:31Like I said, talk to the doctors, man.
- 40:33Don't be afraid of if that's what's happening with them, you
- 40:35know what I'm saying? Like for the ones that might be,
- 40:38the ones that might be reaching out, you know, behind the scenes
- 40:40or whatever, you know what I'm saying?
- 40:42Like, hey, just go tap in with your doctors, man.
- 40:44You know, 'cause like I say, you know, if you, if you of age up
- 40:49up in age or whatever and you may experience that, you got to
- 40:52figure you ain't going, you ain't 20, you ain't going to be
- 40:552018, 1920 years old no more. You ain't.
- 40:58You ain't like that no more. Get for real.
- 41:01You know what I'm saying that that's what it is.
- 41:02You know, everybody go through that grandparent, our granddad,
- 41:05our dad, everybody, everybody gone through that.
- 41:09So it's just part of that human life cycle.
- 41:12Yeah, man, it is undefeated. I don't get who you are.
- 41:16Undefeated, you're right. Undefeated, you're going to face
- 41:19it. If you don't face it, you might
- 41:21be gone away from here before do you get to that age?
- 41:24But if you get to that age. I want, I want, I want to stay
- 41:27here. I want to stay here and see it.
- 41:29I don't want to go early. Yeah, for real doc, I was trying
- 41:32to take. It I want to stay here and face
- 41:34it, I want to go to, I want to go ahead and go to the doctor or
- 41:38whatever, you know what I'm saying?
- 41:39Like, you know, I don't want to go early, you know what I'm
- 41:42saying? Like some people, they want to
- 41:43go early. I want to stay here late.
- 41:45I'm good. We straight.
- 41:46They see the same the same thing too, like what you talking about
- 41:49with the Ed and the men, the same thing tapping in, you know,
- 41:53like with the women with the what is it that Yep, same thing
- 41:59with them. See they they may not can adapt
- 42:01to that wheel. Like they may get it because I'm
- 42:03thinking, I thought, I think I've heard some people say women
- 42:06are getting it now in their 40s when they used to be on 5050 or
- 42:1060, your old thing or whatever. So like when they're getting it
- 42:14in their 40s, they may not be able to adapt to it.
- 42:16Stress dog stress is the is the is the main key out of it.
- 42:20The main key. You know, you're talking about
- 42:23you 40 and when there's normally 5060 and you're 40, you getting
- 42:29it in the balls. You know, it could be stress, it
- 42:31could be genetics, it could be a lot of different things that
- 42:35people, you know, dealing with. That's why we keep preaching to
- 42:39all of y'all men and women, hey, go to the doctor.
- 42:43You got insurance, It's free. Like I'm look this one thing.
- 42:46This is a little bit off off. I know I got a feeling, I know
- 42:50what you get ready to say, but go ahead.
- 42:53That y'all got this free insurance but go to the dentist.
- 42:56Dog you get 2 cleaners a year. Dog, it's 60 every six months
- 43:02you can get your choppers. Clean, I knew you was going to
- 43:05come with that insurance. They won't use it like bro, like
- 43:10had the job off topic for a little bit on that, but I'm just
- 43:13saying over you got it use it like even with the mental health
- 43:17it should they got 800 numbers on the insurance.
- 43:20If you having issues, you can call them and they can talk to
- 43:24you anonymous. You ain't got to tell them
- 43:28nothing. You know what I'm saying, but
- 43:30you know it's Hey bro, I'm we did try to help the folk out
- 43:34dogging then you know, you know what prevents what prevents
- 43:40chemical imbalances in the brain.
- 43:42I'm going to try to get to some of this before we go to the
- 43:44break. Maintaining the healthy brain
- 43:47requires a balance of neurotransmitters and hormones.
- 43:51While it is not always possible to prevent chemical imbalances,
- 43:56adopting lifestyle habits and seeking professional help, as
- 44:00we've been saying, and help significantly reduce the risk of
- 44:06risk in managing existing imbalances.
- 44:10Factors to help prevent and minute manage chemical
- 44:14imbalance. Sleep get you some sleep if you
- 44:17if you ain't got the money to pay for it, you staying up all
- 44:20night ain't going to help it. I'm sorry, just get you some
- 44:24sleep. The problem will be there the
- 44:26next morning that it ain't going nowhere.
- 44:30Nutrition that a a balanced rich a balanced diet enriched
- 44:36nutrients provides building blocks for neurotransmitters and
- 44:43overall brain function. So bro, get look, sleep, eat
- 44:49right, exercise dog exercise right manage stress is
- 44:54techniques like a mindful mindfulness meditation and
- 44:58spending time in nature can help reduce stress which can disrupt
- 45:02neurotransmitted y'all. Hey, we're going to jump back
- 45:05and see this right out there. That break, y'all?

- 46:25Come back to man talk 133 with Shaw and Darrell Hey I got I got
- 46:32I'm going to be honest I got some stuff that they going to be
- 46:35surprised about that when I I got to go through this you know
- 46:40I'm I'm I'm I'm going to surprise them with the dog
- 46:45medication. We thought about going to the
- 46:47doc and get you some medication. Help regulate neurotransmitters
- 46:50by levels by affecting their reabsorption or breakdown.
- 46:56Psychotherapy. Psychotherapy, yeah, therapy can
- 47:00help address underlying psychological factors that may
- 47:06contribute to chemical imbalances and providing and
- 47:10coping mechanisms and managing symptoms.
- 47:13I think, I think man, it was on one of the shows here on MBR,
- 47:18somebody had had someone on their show and they were talking
- 47:21about dogs, if I remember. Correctly.
- 47:23He was talking about dog or something.
- 47:26Yeah, like you know the dogs like even even with even 1 show
- 47:29I I want to say they take the dogs to prison, into prisons and
- 47:35help. People cope, help.
- 47:37People cope with it with stress and stuff like that.
- 47:40And I think it was, it was a young lady up here that that did
- 47:45it. She was talking about I had to
- 47:47look it up. But dogs and animals, you know,
- 47:50help people, you know, with stress.
- 47:51You know what I'm saying? Light therapy, exposure to
- 47:55sunlight can help reduce serotonin and melatonin, which
- 48:01are important for mood and sleep.
- 48:04I mean, help regulate, not reduce, help regulate serotonin
- 48:08and melatonin, which can help, you know, mood and sleep.
- 48:13So dog this is y'all got a seek professor to help.
- 48:17I got so much stuff here dog schizophrenia.
- 48:20We already talked about that it's.
- 48:22I did so much research that that I can go probably 2 shows but.
- 48:29Right, my head. Like I say, I gave you my head
- 48:32to. Do a part. 2 The next one yeah,
- 48:35part. Two, Yeah.
- 48:36And you know, we talked about schizophrenia and you know, the
- 48:39risk factors, the cause of schizophrenia is not known,
- 48:45which is crazy, right? These factors can make
- 48:48schizophrenia. These factors seem to make
- 48:52schizophrenia more likely. Family history of it, Life
- 48:56experiences such as living in poverty, stress or danger.
- 49:01Some pregnancy and birth issue issues such as not getting
- 49:06enough nutrition before and after birth, low birth rate, or
- 49:10exposure to toxins or viruses before birth that may affect
- 49:15brain development. Mind taking taking mind
- 49:21altering. Also psychoactive or
- 49:24psychotropic drugs as a teen or young adult can cause it.
- 49:30Because you think about it, if if you look at the symptoms of
- 49:32that, it make them if if you take a drug like that, it just
- 49:36make them feel like yo bro I feel like I can fly or to just
- 49:42jump off this house. I'm like, I don't think it was a
- 49:45good idea though. No if if.
- 49:48You ain't got somebody around you that know if you're dealing
- 49:52with that man, hey, they'd be like, well, go ahead, go ahead
- 49:56and jump there. I don't believe you got them
- 49:59moves. That's what you don't, you know.
- 50:02And I mean, I knew you got something.
- 50:04Oh, no, I was going to go ahead and you go ahead and I was going
- 50:07to tap in with that. With that, what was the
- 50:10Alzheimer's? Was it Alzheimer's you had all
- 50:14times like now after schizophrenic Frenia?
- 50:17You know, we had talked about dementia earlier.
- 50:20Yeah, dementia, Yeah, we had talked about that earlier.
- 50:22I was going to say something about that.
- 50:23Before, you know, after, before the show end.
- 50:25Oh, now you can go ahead. Yeah, because I'm going to go
- 50:27into some more stuff about schizophrenia.
- 50:31Oh no. But what I was going to say real
- 50:33quick, you know, for the people that dealing may be dealing with
- 50:35somebody with schizophrenic, I'm not schizophrenia.
- 50:39Well, I'm like you now though, the people that's dealing with
- 50:42dementia because we have, we have had a class on that before.
- 50:46And when you talking for the people that's dealing with
- 50:48people with this dementia, just, you know, just got to be patient
- 50:52with them because sometimes you can be talking to them and they
- 50:56may hear what you're saying, but they may forget it on the snap
- 51:00of a finger or what you saying. And you know, in a sound like,
- 51:04you know, like you, you keep repeating yourself to them and
- 51:07they don't understand what you're talking about.
- 51:09That's the early symptoms, you know, when they and they could
- 51:12frustrate a person that don't know what may be going on.
- 51:16So especially in elderly people. Yeah, for real.
- 51:19For real what I'm saying. So I just want to put that in
- 51:21there real quick, you know, just in case, you know, we need to
- 51:23show. Yeah, be patient with them, dog.
- 51:26Yeah. Complications of schizophrenia
- 51:30left under untreated schizophrenia and lead to severe
- 51:34problems that can affect every area of life.
- 51:38Suicide, Suicide attempts, thoughts of suicide, anxiety
- 51:42disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder, also known
- 51:48as OCOCOCD, which we talked about earlier.
- 51:53Depression, Misuse of alcohol, drugs and nicotine, not being
- 51:58able to work or attend school. Money problems and homelessness,
- 52:02Social isolation, Health and medical problems.
- 52:07Being victimized because people don't know what's going on with
- 52:10them so they'll they'll take off on them because they think they
- 52:13trying to be funny. Was they really not?
- 52:15They just need help. Right.
- 52:17And that's it's a friendly man, that whole word like you, the
- 52:22name, all the other stuff that's that's pretty much connecting to
- 52:26schizophrenia. But when you say schizophrenia,
- 52:29you automatically think about a person that's going to kill like
- 52:34a serial killer that's just going to kill everybody.
- 52:37Oh, he's schizophrenic, you know, you know, he going to go
- 52:39off and kill and stab up everybody or whatever.
- 52:42They were right there. Making itself is like a scary
- 52:45word, even though it's still pretty much like the other ones
- 52:49that we were talking about. Yeah, man, it is a it's then
- 52:53that's the next one. Aggressive or violent behavior,
- 52:57though people with schizophrenia are more likely to be assaulted
- 53:00rather than assaulting others. But they will exalt some of them
- 53:05will jump into that that mindset, right.
- 53:09Well, hey bro, I'm going to take off on because they feel like
- 53:12they can whoop anybody. They feel like they can whoop
- 53:15Mike Tyson, anybody. They jump on anybody because
- 53:17they just, the imbalances make them feel like, hey, you know,
- 53:21I'm invincible. You know you don't want to mess
- 53:24with me because you know, and they could be like a #2 pencil,
- 53:29but you don't want to mess with me.
- 53:30We say bluffing and taking this shirt off and.
- 53:33All this stuff. You know, you know, like I said,
- 53:36man, you run into a lot of people like that, man out, you
- 53:39know, out and about, you know what I'm saying, That they're
- 53:41actually that's actually dealing with stuff like that.
- 53:44You know. You know, they may be homeless
- 53:46or they may live in a shelter or whatever.
- 53:49You know, like, you know, a lot of those people, I know some of
- 53:52them fake faking like those people to be holding up those
- 53:55signs and stuff like that at the corners, like, you know, I work
- 54:00food and all that. But some of those, some of those
- 54:02guys are really like that, you know too.
- 54:04So that's why a lot of people really don't bother with them
- 54:06because they don't know how to decipher.
- 54:08They don't know whether you know this person, you know, like
- 54:11that, this schizophrenia if you're crazy.
- 54:13But that's why a lot of people, a lot of time when you see these
- 54:16people holding these signs, you can kind of look at them.
- 54:18They look the part. That's why a lot of people just
- 54:20they look, they ride right past them.
- 54:22You know it ain't that they don't want to help them, but
- 54:25bro, if I'm did somebody stop and try and talk.
- 54:27You help you help you. Like you said, you might take
- 54:30off on me. Yeah, I'm trying to help you
- 54:32out. Yeah, and then I'm going to have
- 54:34to take off on you, you know? I had to defend myself.
- 54:36I don't mean no harm. I'm going to have to do it.
- 54:38And and you know, prevention. There's no sure way to prevent
- 54:42schizophrenia, but staying with your treatment plan can help
- 54:46stop symptoms from returning or getting worse.
- 54:50Researchers, I hope that leading is like more treatment down the
- 54:56road, more research and help, you know, help you find some
- 55:00type of diagnosis for. But then what I wanted to get
- 55:03you the people dog because you know, they think that that
- 55:10mental health is just a less thing and it and it just it just
- 55:14started now but it ain't it ain't just starting now, dog it
- 55:19it started it's in the Bible. Give them some examples in the
- 55:22Bible, dog. I got to give it to him.
- 55:24Yeah. You know.
- 55:25Yeah. The story of the man that got
- 55:29gatherings. Do you think he suffered with
- 55:33mental illness? I'm going to read what he what
- 55:36he suffered with and you tell me that you think it could be
- 55:39schizophrenia or whatever. The story refers to a demon
- 55:42possessed man in the region of gatherings healed by Jesus.
- 55:48This event was encountered in three different instances like
- 55:52Matthew 828 and 34, Mark five one through 20 and Luke 826
- 55:58through 39. Jesus was travelling.
- 56:00He encountered this man living in the tombs.
- 56:03He was told me about demons. The man.
- 56:07The man was he was possessed. He was he was he.
- 56:11He didn't have no clothes on. He, he the chains couldn't even
- 56:15hold him with snapping the chains and all kind of stuff.
- 56:19So I personally think I agree with you.
- 56:23That's one that you already know what you're going to say.
- 56:26I agree with you on that. Yeah.
- 56:28All right. So.
- 56:29So if that wasn't enough for y'all, want me to give y'all
- 56:31more? I'm glad y'all asked.
- 56:33You know what I'm saying? The Bible portrays several
- 56:39instances where individuals may be described as may be
- 56:44considered mental health struggles.
- 56:46You know what I'm saying Psalm, King David and all.
- 56:49So I'm going to give some examples to y'all before we get
- 56:51out of here. Here's a more detailed some more
- 56:55detailed examples. David King David The psalms
- 57:02particularly lament psalms like 6 Psalms 6 and 13 revealed
- 57:08David's deep emotions and struggles with depression and
- 57:12anxiety. Y'all gonna have to go read them
- 57:14because I can't. I will be up here all night
- 57:17trying to read all this stuff right Elijah?
- 57:21After his victory over prophets of ball, a bell ball, Elijah
- 57:27experienced. Elijah experienced a deep sense
- 57:31of despair, feeling alone and afraid, which led him to request
- 57:37death or even sleep. And I'm going to read this one
- 57:39because I want y'all to know this is a real 1.
- 57:44First Kings 9 verse 3 and I think 4.
- 57:48I think it may be 4/2. Elijah was afraid and ran for
- 57:52his life. When he came to Beersheba in
- 57:57Judea, he left his servants there while he himself went on a
- 58:02day's journey into the wilderness.
- 58:04He came to a broom Bush and sat down under it and prayed that he
- 58:08might die. And he said, I've had enough,
- 58:13Lord. He said, take my life.
- 58:16I'm no better than my ancestors. So he wanted to kill himself,
- 58:20dog. I mean, I kill himself.
- 58:22He want, he wanted him to take his life.
- 58:26Let's go to Job, dog Job stories of immense suffering where his
- 58:33losses, he loses everything and questions God's fairness, which
- 58:37leads to profound mental distress.
- 58:39He lost everything. We was talking about how you
- 58:42were talking about environmental you can lose.
- 58:44He lost everything. He was at the top.
- 58:47At the. Food chain, He lost everything.
- 58:51You think that won't affect somebody's?
- 58:53Mental all day long. Daniel Chapter 4 Nebuchadnezzar
- 58:59experiences loss of sanity due to his arrogance and pride,
- 59:03which is a manifestation of his mental instability.
- 59:07We know the story of him. You know, he, he wanted to be
- 59:10the guy. He wanted to build the gold.
- 59:13They wanted everybody to bow down to him.
- 59:15And because of that, he had to pay.
- 59:20I mean, you ain't. You want to be God so good,
- 59:23guys. OK, I got you.
- 59:24No problem, right, Hannah? I'm.
- 59:28I'm just getting it to him now, Hannah.
- 59:29Wait on you can finish it off because I know we might be
- 59:32pushing for time. Yeah, we definitely going to
- 59:34finish them off and leave them with.
- 59:35Some scriptures Hannah Hannah Baroness and her long deep
- 59:39longing for a child are depicted in first Samuel 1 one through 20
- 59:45where her experience of grief and despair Jonah Jonah's anger
- 59:50and desire to to destroy Nivea destroyed destroyed along with
- 59:56his significant dependent despondency at the God spared
- 1:00:02the city and demonstrate his emotional vitality.
- 1:00:07You know I bro we we out of time, but I'm going to read this
- 1:00:10one then we're going to be gone. Paul, A Reference to Paul's A
- 1:00:16Thorn in the Flesh in Corinth, Second Corinthians. 12 seven
- 1:00:21through 9, which he asked God to remove, is also interpreted as a
- 1:00:25physical or mental condition. A thorn in the flesh is a common
- 1:00:32item that describes A persistent or noise or difficulty, often a
- 1:00:38personal thing that continues that causes continuous pain or
- 1:00:43trouble. You all can go read it when he
- 1:00:46talked about, you know, about to be a thorn in the side and all
- 1:00:49that stuff like that. But it's so much more we could
- 1:00:52get to. But we are all the way out of
- 1:00:54time. Thank y'all for joining this
- 1:00:56show tonight. Thanks for joining the Man talk
- 1:00:581 to 33 with Shawl and Daryl and to next time y'all stay blessed.
