- 0:00SPEAKER_00: It's discouraging to wonder whether our work is futile or we're in the wrong workplace.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: And personal production professionals may spend years working 60 plus hours to build
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: a business and client list and reputation and financial security only
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: to see it threatened by war and government breakdown,
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: economic crisis or illness for that matter.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: The thought can be overwhelming.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Well, today...
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: We are in Proverbs 12, verses 3 and 25.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Welcome
- 0:34[music]
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking at bay.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: After more than 60 years in sales and leadership,
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: I've learned that biblical wisdom is the most valuable asset ever.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So, pour yourself a cup of your favorite brew, and let's explore today's proverb together.
- 1:16[music]
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Well, it's the 12th day of the month and we are in Proverbs 12.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I've chosen verses 3 and 25.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Let's start with verse 3.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: A man cannot be established through wickedness,
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: but the root of the righteous cannot be uprooted.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 12, verse 3.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And then jumping down to verse 25, anxiety in the heart of man weighs it down.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: But a good word makes it glad.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 12, 25.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Zig Ziglar called feeling overwhelmed or not looking at things with
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: a proper perspective, he called it stinking thinking.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: And in turbulent times,
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: it can make our efforts feel wasted and maybe feel that our work is meaningless.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: But changing our mindset when a major account leaves or the market declines isn't easy.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: And if we're transparent,
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: all the positive affirmations in the world, you know, won't ease the real stress.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: But the Apostle Paul in Romans 12 too urges us not to conform to the world's panic,
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: but to renew our minds.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Quote, do not conform to the pattern of this world.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: But be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: His good, pleasing, and perfect will.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: That's Romans 12, 2.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: You know, we should stay alert and work for the good of others.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And ignoring signs of trouble would be unwise.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: We aren't called...
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: To bury our heads in the sand.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Frankly,
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: optimism and wholehearted commitment to our work and adding significance
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: to others is essential.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: The Apostle Paul once again in Colossians 3,
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: 23-24 stated, Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Now here's a mindset shift that all of us gospel-centered customer success masters can make.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Outcomes may differ from what we hoped, but that doesn't erase the value of our work.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: No doubt, changing our thinking takes time and perseverance.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: However,
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: when our perspective is rooted in truth,
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: stinking thinking has less power over our daily work.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: One of the greatest gifts of a renewed mindset is the belief that everything has a purpose.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Now, we can grieve the loss of lives and businesses and good work that ends too soon
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: while remembering that none of it was in vain.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: A larger divine picture is always unfolding even when we can't see it yet.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: We're here for a purpose.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: We're here on assignment.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And each day,
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: It gives us the opportunity to fulfill and grow and add significance to others
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: through our assignment.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Frankly, I no longer see myself as a traditional business person who says they are a Christian.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I am now feeling in my new mindset,
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: in my new heart set, and my new belief is I'm a disciple of Jesus on assignment.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: This shift shapes how I show up every morning.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: How I commit myself to doing the podcast and writing books and hopefully speaking soon.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: It really is
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: total shift, not only in my mind, but in my heart.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: So think about that.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: A disciple of Jesus on assignment in the marketplace.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Today's customer success code.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: A customer success master is not uprooted by external chaos.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: We are anchored in purpose.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: We refuse to let market conditions define the value of our labor or the integrity
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: of our assignment.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Today's action points.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Action point number one is let's audit the mental roots.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Identify where stinking thinking or market anxiety has begun to weigh down your heart.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Write those fears down and explicitly bring them under the truth of Romans 12, 2.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Action point number two is reframe the outcome.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Take a recent loss or stalled account and ask,
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Even if the financial outcome wasn't what I had hoped,
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: how did my effort serve the client or refine my character in the process?
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: And action point number three is declare your assignment.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Before stepping into another call or meeting,
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: remind yourself, I am not here just to close a transaction.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: I'm on assignment.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: In the marketplace today.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Let's pray.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Heavenly Father,
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: when the storms of life and the volatility of
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: the marketplace make my work feel futile, please anchor my heart in your truth.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Forgive me for the times I've allowed stinking thinking and anxiety to weigh me down
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: or cause me to doubt the value of my daily labor.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Please renew my mind Minute by minute,
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: help me to remember that I'm not merely trying to survive the business world,
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: but that I am a disciple of Jesus.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: I'm your disciple,
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Lord Jesus,
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: on assignment in the marketplace to add significance to others with excellence,
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: transparency, and integrity.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Please give me the grace to stay rooted in you,
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: When outcomes don't go as planned,
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: knowing that no work done unto you is ever in vain.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name, amen.
