Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: G105, it is the Erica Show. Good nights always is
- 0:02Speaker 1: a great time. And we've got James Murray. Murr, that's
- 0:05Speaker 1: going to be there October 30th. Two shows. First show
- 0:08Speaker 1: sold out. And then again on Halloween night, 4 and
- 0:11Speaker 1: 6 p.m. Perfect to grab dinner. Go ahead and do
- 0:13Speaker 1: the trick-or-treating party afterwards. What's going on, Murr?
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hi, what's going on? Hi, Raleigh.
- 0:18Speaker 1: You are so busy, like so many books. You got movies.
- 0:21Speaker 1: You got, you know, obviously season 13 on Hiatus while
- 0:24Speaker 1: you're doing the comedy tour, but you got a lot
- 0:26Speaker 1: going on constantly, it feels like.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You know, the day job keeps me busy. We've been
- 0:33Speaker 2: filming Jokers now for 16 years. I'm just getting older
- 0:36Speaker 2: and bolder on TV.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I I feel like you haven't aged a bit. Like, honestly,
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm like, this dude never ages.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Well, thank you. That's because I looked old at the
- 0:45Speaker 2: beginning of the show.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Okay, so do you guys compete? Because you're both doing
- 0:49Speaker 1: your solo tours right now. Do you compete on who
- 0:51Speaker 1: has the most sold-out shows? I mean, you're always joking
- 0:54Speaker 1: with each other. How does that work?
- 0:55Speaker 2: My live stand-up show is very different from the other
- 0:58Speaker 2: guys because, like, the first half of my show is
- 1:01Speaker 2: stand-up comedy. I tell some of the most embarrassing stories
- 1:04Speaker 2: of my life, you know. But the second half of
- 1:06Speaker 2: the show is All improv. I make it up as
- 1:08Speaker 2: I go. I play two games with the audience. One
- 1:10Speaker 2: is I borrow three audience members' cell phones, and I
- 1:14Speaker 2: start texting people from their phone on their behalf. And
- 1:17Speaker 2: we deal with the consequences live on stage. And then
- 1:20Speaker 2: the last thing I do is I play impractical jokers live,
- 1:23Speaker 2: meaning I put an earpiece in someone's ear, send them
- 1:26Speaker 2: out into the streets of Raleigh. We watch on screen,
- 1:29Speaker 2: and live on the spot, I tell them what to
- 1:30Speaker 2: say and do. It's like watching a TV show happen
- 1:33Speaker 2: live in front of your face and uncensored. So it's
- 1:35Speaker 2: literally different every single night, which is wild, and it's
- 1:39Speaker 2: so much fun.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Obviously, the audience makes or breaks, you know, how that
- 1:42Speaker 1: second half turns out. If they're lame going out on
- 1:45Speaker 1: the streets of Raleigh, then you're like, okay, get back
- 1:47Speaker 1: in here. But for the most part, are they pretty good?
- 1:49Speaker 2: I'm a pretty seasoned and practical joker at this point.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I feel like I know how far to push and
- 1:54Speaker 2: how far I can go. So it always lands, always.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Is there anything that has shocked you at a show
- 1:59Speaker 1: where you're like, I did not expect it to turn
- 2:01Speaker 1: out that way?
- 2:02Speaker 2: I will tell you, the last time I was in
- 2:05Speaker 2: Raleigh about two years ago, we had the cops called
- 2:07Speaker 2: on us because of Joker's life.
- 2:10Speaker 1: What? I didn't know that.
- 2:11Speaker 2: And I tell the story on tour in every show
- 2:14Speaker 2: I do, and I pull up a picture. They're lovely gentlemen,
- 2:16Speaker 2: the two cops that came up to us. The cops
- 2:18Speaker 2: had no idea that I was in the kid's ear,
- 2:21Speaker 2: and my cousin who was filming it from 10 feet
- 2:24Speaker 2: away was beaming the signal to the comedy club, and
- 2:26Speaker 2: the cops were huge Joker's fans. And it was so fun.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm going to tell a story on Siege this Friday
- 2:32Speaker 2: and Saturday. It happened right there in Raleigh two years ago.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yes, the comedy part is amazing, but the interactive part
- 2:37Speaker 1: of the show, that makes you want to be there,
- 2:40Speaker 1: be a part of the audience, because that is just
- 2:42Speaker 1: something that you can't recreate everywhere else. I mean, it's magical.
- 2:45Speaker 1: It's really cool.
- 2:46Speaker 2: It's like, you know, people always say, oh, I can do,
- 2:48Speaker 2: I can be on Unprofitable Jokers. Well, let's see. Let's
- 2:50Speaker 2: see you try. Like, it is so much fun for
- 2:53Speaker 2: me creatively because, like, every town is different and And
- 2:56Speaker 2: you have no idea how people are going to react when,
- 2:58Speaker 2: you know, in the public. And it's just always so
- 3:01Speaker 2: wildly fun.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Now, has there ever been a joke over the years
- 3:04Speaker 1: where you're like, I'm quitting this? This sucks. I'm not
- 3:07Speaker 1: doing this anymore.
- 3:08Speaker 2: You're going to see it in January. So the new
- 3:11Speaker 2: episodes start back in January for the rest of season 13.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And then we're going to move on to season 14
- 3:17Speaker 2: after that and so on and so forth. But I
- 3:20Speaker 2: will tell you the premiere episode in January is, You're
- 3:23Speaker 2: not going to believe what I'm going to say. They
- 3:25Speaker 2: dressed me as a human mop. My whole body was
- 3:28Speaker 2: a mop, and I stepped foot off the top of
- 3:31Speaker 2: the Empire State Building from the 104th floor, and I
- 3:34Speaker 2: rappelled down the side of the skyscraper 25 stories, and
- 3:38Speaker 2: I swung from side to side using my own body
- 3:41Speaker 2: to clean the glass. No. I am not scared.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Of— Like, even when you go up there for the tour,
- 3:49Speaker 1: it's just like, okay, it's a little bit breezy up here.
- 3:51Speaker 1: To hang off the side, no thank you. No. Uh-huh.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It was nuts. It was by far the craziest thing
- 3:57Speaker 2: I've ever done in my life.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Now, you're married to Melissa, which she came to one
- 4:00Speaker 1: of your book signings, right? And that's how y'all met
- 4:02Speaker 1: each other?
- 4:02Speaker 2: It is, yeah. We met when my first book came
- 4:05Speaker 2: out nine years ago at this point. She came, and
- 4:08Speaker 2: that's how we met and hit it off. And we
- 4:10Speaker 2: are now happily married for six years. And literally a
- 4:13Speaker 2: half hour ago, we adopted a fourth dog. We just
- 4:15Speaker 2: got Pickles Murray. Oh, that's cool.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Wait, you got Penny, you got now.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Penny, Pepper, Squish, and literally one half hour ago, we
- 4:23Speaker 2: signed the paperwork, and I'm staring at a brand new, tiny,
- 4:27Speaker 2: two-pound dog. named Pickles, and he's just checking the house out,
- 4:32Speaker 2: getting along well with the other dogs, so that's good.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I feel like we just broke the news, y'all. Savannah
- 4:37Speaker 1: Chrisley made an announcement. Now you've made your growing family
- 4:40Speaker 1: announcement on G105. I love it. Obviously, you joke around
- 4:44Speaker 1: all the time, which I think is good for your soul,
- 4:46Speaker 1: but is there anything in the marriage where it's like, no,
- 4:49Speaker 1: we're not joking on that one?
- 4:50Speaker 2: I will say, like, we've pushed things to the limit. Like,
- 4:53Speaker 2: Empire State Building was right there, but Melissa was at
- 4:55Speaker 2: the edge of the skyscraper. Gabe was very calm that day.
- 4:59Speaker 2: because she knew I was extremely nervous, and gave me
- 5:01Speaker 2: a kiss right a second before I stepped off the top,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and she's there at the top when I came back
- 5:06Speaker 2: up safely. So, you know, we do push it, but
- 5:10Speaker 2: I think we know how far to go, you know?
- 5:12Speaker 1: That is incredible. I think this is a cool story, too,
- 5:15Speaker 1: about how your parents financed, instead of getting you, like,
- 5:17Speaker 1: the four tours or whatever, they financed your first film,
- 5:20Speaker 1: because you've been doing this for a very long time.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I should have taken the damn Ford Taurus. That
- 5:24Speaker 2: first movie I made 25 years ago was terrible.
- 5:28Speaker 1: What else do we need to expect? Obviously very interactive.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Maybe you'll be one of the three that's selected to
- 5:33Speaker 1: get the earpiece, which I think is super cool. Anything
- 5:35Speaker 1: else we need to know before the show this weekend?
- 5:38Speaker 2: The show's an absolute blast. The last time we were
- 5:39Speaker 2: in Raleigh, like two years ago, they were killer crowds.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I've been there many, many times over the years. It's
- 5:44Speaker 2: a great town. We're going to have an absolute blast.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Celebrate Halloween with me. I think the first show is
- 5:48Speaker 2: Friday sold out. The second one and the other two
- 5:51Speaker 2: still have some tickets left, but they're almost sold out too.
- 5:54Speaker 2: So go to merlive.com to get tickets or go to
- 5:58Speaker 2: Goodnight's website.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Goodnight'scomedy.com. And, of course, you've got tons of books, horror movies,
- 6:03Speaker 1: got it all. So where can people.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Follow your journey? Oh, yeah, my horror movie Don't Move
- 6:08Speaker 2: just came out on all the streaming platforms. Amazon Prime,
- 6:11Speaker 2: Apple TV, Google Play, Fandango, YouTube, and you can get
- 6:15Speaker 2: it by looking up Don't Move. In the movie is T-Pain,
- 6:17Speaker 2: Rob Riggle, the rapper Russ, I'm in it, Q's in it.
- 6:21Speaker 2: The movie's very scary. It's the perfect week to watch
- 6:23Speaker 2: a horror movie. I love it. But it's like a
- 6:24Speaker 2: good date night horror movie with a lot of comedy
- 6:27Speaker 2: to it. You're going to love it. It's called Don't Move.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Very cool. And I love that everything's on streaming platforms now,
- 6:32Speaker 1: so you don't have to leave your house. You can
- 6:33Speaker 1: watch the best movies right there.
- 6:35Speaker 2: In your living room. You can pee whenever you want.
- 6:37Speaker 2: That's right.
- 6:38Speaker 1: One last question. How often do people ask you if
- 6:40Speaker 1: you're related to Bill Murray? Because somebody asked me that.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They were like, oh, is he cousins? I was like,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I don't think so. I don't believe they're related.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I'll tell you a funny story. I was appearing at
- 6:48Speaker 2: some event like two months ago and the guy introduced
- 6:50Speaker 2: me as Bill Murray. And I got up to the mic.
- 6:53Speaker 2: The audience laughed. The guy didn't realize the mistake. And
- 6:55Speaker 2: I got up to the mic. I was like, I
- 6:56Speaker 2: wish I was Bill Murray.
- 6:58Speaker 1: That is hilarious. Well, but you're not related though, right?
- 7:01Speaker 2: Not as far as I know. But I think the
- 7:03Speaker 2: Murrays all probably trace back to the same people. Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Go check them out. Good Nights Comedy. Multiple shows this weekend.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It's a great venue. Grab dinner. Celebrate Halloween. Make it fun.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But thanks for being on with us today.
- 7:15Speaker 2: You got it. See you this weekend.
