Cuban Immigrants Sue Over Everglades Abuse | Kansas City News
Two Cuban immigrants are suing the state, federal government, and a contractor over alleged abuse at the now-closed Everglades detention facility, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” where one man claims he was beaten and broke his wrist during a phone-shutoff incident on April 2nd, while another alleges a guard kneeled on his neck, causing head trauma and a black eye. Lawyers from Sanctuary of the South and ACLU are demanding evidence be preserved and seeking accountability for the physical and emotional harm inflicted, even as the facility shuttered under Governor Ron DeSantis’ order.
