- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. We will get to the madness of college
- 0:24Speaker 1: football playoff, which is not like March madness, because when
- 0:27Speaker 1: we say that, it's charming. When we talk about college
- 0:30Speaker 1: football madness, because them motherfuckers is crazy. But anyway, Chiefs
- 0:36Speaker 1: played the Texans Sunday night. The Chiefs lost to the
- 0:39Speaker 1: Texans Sunday night. The Chiefs are now 20 and, excuse me,
- 0:44Speaker 1: the game was 20 to 10. The Chiefs are now
- 0:46Speaker 1: six and seven right there with the Baltimore Ravens. Put
- 0:50Speaker 1: a pin in that thought. The Chiefs are somehow in
- 0:54Speaker 1: 10th place in the conference. And the reason that they
- 0:57Speaker 1: are in 10th place in the conference, which I didn't
- 0:59Speaker 1: understand because they were there with the Ravens, who what
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'm looking at said ninth place, but I'm like, but wait,
- 1:06Speaker 1: The Chiefs beat the Ravens in week one. And no,
- 1:09Speaker 1: that's because the Ravens and the Chiefs also have the
- 1:12Speaker 1: same record as the Miami Dolphins. That's right. That's where
- 1:19Speaker 1: they down there at right now, right? They down there
- 1:22Speaker 1: with the Dolphins, who I will be perfectly honest with
- 1:25Speaker 1: you guys. I completely forgot about. Like, I didn't think
- 1:31Speaker 1: that they got contracted.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Like, I didn't think that they weren't in the league anymore.
- 1:38Speaker 1: But you know, sometimes you just don't think about somebody
- 1:40Speaker 1: for a long time. People are like, oh damn, I
- 1:41Speaker 1: forgot that person even existed.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Especially when Tyreek Hill got hurt.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Then they disappeared from the Zeitgeist.
- 1:48Speaker 1: We didn't stop talking about them. Like, once we realized
- 1:51Speaker 1: they weren't going to fire... Might be Daniel. Might be Daniel.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. I don't know if two
- 1:56Speaker 1: are hurt or not. Like, I mean, at any given day,
- 1:58Speaker 1: it could be different. I'm assuming that he's out there playing. And,
- 2:01Speaker 1: of course, part of why I don't know anything about
- 2:04Speaker 1: them is I haven't noticed that they won four games
- 2:06Speaker 1: in a row. You know why I haven't noticed that
- 2:09Speaker 1: they won four games in a row? Yeah. One of
- 2:11Speaker 1: them was against the Bills. The rest... was against Cheeks, Ass,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and Boo Boo. Yes, there we go. The Commandos, the Saints,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and the Jets. That is who they were out there against.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But yeah, that's the company that the Chiefs keep right now.
- 2:31Speaker 1: They're just not good. And they are not good in
- 2:36Speaker 1: a way that happens from time to time. In football,
- 2:41Speaker 1: I don't... I don't think it so much happens as
- 2:43Speaker 1: much in baseball, though I guess it happens in stretches
- 2:46Speaker 1: in baseball, and it's just not the way that basketball works.
- 2:51Speaker 1: But the Chiefs are bad, but the players aren't. You
- 2:57Speaker 1: understand what I'm saying? Like, if you were to point
- 3:00Speaker 1: at the roster or point at, like, stats and stuff
- 3:02Speaker 1: like that, generally speaking, we don't really have an answer.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So why is it that they're bad? Like, what is
- 3:09Speaker 1: your explanation for why it is that they're bad? And
- 3:12Speaker 1: the answer is, they are. Coming into this week, Ryan,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you know where the Chiefs were at DVOA?
- 3:18Speaker 2: I'm going to guess 12th.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Sixth. Sixth. But you know who's fourth? America's team to
- 3:26Speaker 1: Detroit Lions.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's football.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Right, right. DVOA normally doesn't work like that. You normally
- 3:32Speaker 1: don't really get bogeys going in there in the way
- 3:35Speaker 1: that you got this year. But that's the thing with
- 3:37Speaker 1: the Chiefs right now is that the Chiefs are... They
- 3:39Speaker 1: are bogey-ish. Patrick Mahomes had three interceptions yesterday that felt
- 3:44Speaker 1: like the worst Patrick Mahomes game that we've ever seen.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, the nerds were saying if you go
- 3:50Speaker 2: by the EPA stats or whatever, it was probably his
- 3:53Speaker 2: worst game as a starter.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Look, and we saw this team. We looked at the
- 3:57Speaker 1: guys they had at receiver, like the things they had
- 3:58Speaker 1: built up. Now, of course, they are in five-dot territory. Ryan,
- 4:02Speaker 1: you haven't been doing this with me for a very
- 4:03Speaker 1: long time. They do not have an offensive line. They
- 4:05Speaker 1: have five dots. And I got to be honest with you.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Some of those dots ain't even like symmetrical dots. They
- 4:11Speaker 1: just blots.
- 4:12Speaker 2: They're replacement dots.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not even the original dots. They just wiggle
- 4:17Speaker 2: over them.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if they are X's or O's,
- 4:21Speaker 1: but if they O's, they got holes in them. Like,
- 4:25Speaker 1: they are not, I mean, and it's not, these guys
- 4:28Speaker 1: are as good as they're supposed to be. They're not
- 4:31Speaker 1: all intended to be out there together at the same time. Like,
- 4:34Speaker 1: it's supposed to just be one of y'all. They just,
- 4:36Speaker 1: I mean, they're just, they out there with the second,
- 4:39Speaker 1: third unit type of dudes. And then you see another
- 4:41Speaker 1: one get hurt in the course of the game. And look,
- 4:43Speaker 1: maybe that's the depth of the explanation, right? Like maybe
- 4:46Speaker 1: we're being a little too hard on the Chiefs in
- 4:49Speaker 1: some total when it comes to this. But Ryan made
- 4:51Speaker 1: a great point right before the show about this. Man,
- 4:53Speaker 1: this really makes you look at the Patriots run of
- 4:56Speaker 1: the early 21st century and just be like, damn, y'all
- 4:59Speaker 1: really did it because this never happened, right? Like the
- 5:04Speaker 1: 80s and 90s 49ers had a very similar situation where
- 5:10Speaker 1: this never happened. But again, that is before the cap
- 5:14Speaker 1: and then after the advent and there was going to
- 5:16Speaker 1: be some trickle down in this, right? Patriots were just
- 5:20Speaker 1: coming out there, and as you put it, Ryan, retooling
- 5:23Speaker 1: around Tom Brady. There were different kinds of teams, and
- 5:27Speaker 1: the Chiefs, I think, had a certain element of how
- 5:30Speaker 1: it is that they retooled around Mahomes, and the league
- 5:32Speaker 1: kind of caught up paradigmatically, right? It's too high safety
- 5:35Speaker 1: time all around, so you're never going to get like
- 5:37Speaker 1: the 5,000-yard Chiefs passing again, and then they figured out
- 5:40Speaker 1: the nickel and dime game. They did all this, but this...
- 5:44Speaker 1: It never looked like this with the Patriots at this point.
- 5:46Speaker 1: There was that one year where me and everybody else
- 5:50Speaker 1: did a lot of work, said they were finished in
- 5:53Speaker 1: week four or five, and then they won the Super Bowl.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That did happen.
- 5:58Speaker 2: They had bad months. They would have bad Septembers, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: we would do the what's wrong with the Patriots thing.
- 6:04Speaker 2: But they were never– six and seven going into, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 2: week 15. Right.
- 6:09Speaker 1: But the, but the other part is they would always
- 6:11Speaker 1: be doing it with a bunch of low spades.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Right. Like Tom Brady, obviously a joker. I'd say Gronk,
- 6:19Speaker 1: qualified as joker you'd have like a chandler jones throwing
- 6:22Speaker 1: in there but then when he started asking for money
- 6:25Speaker 1: they would get him out of here right patriots love
- 6:27Speaker 1: to trade a 10 for five deuces right like they
- 6:30Speaker 1: are they are all about that one um but they
- 6:33Speaker 1: were out there by and large with low spades or
- 6:36Speaker 1: even i would say that like gronk well gronk was
- 6:39Speaker 1: a bit of a spade but that one dude that
- 6:42Speaker 1: was killing people was a very good player but like
- 6:47Speaker 1: not quite a joker he's almost kind of like like
- 6:49Speaker 1: a king of another suit. Like, you could trump it maybe,
- 6:53Speaker 1: but like, you know, the whole lot was going to
- 6:55Speaker 1: have to break right in order for you to do that.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It never was this, right? They are sitting, like I said,
- 7:03Speaker 1: they sitting down there with the Dolphins, bro. Anybody think
- 7:06Speaker 1: they could show up and get a game against the
- 7:08Speaker 1: Chiefs at this point? Now, look, the Texans are one
- 7:10Speaker 1: of those teams that all year long has been better
- 7:13Speaker 1: than their record, okay?
- 7:15Speaker 2: And a terrible matchup for the Chiefs in this specific
- 7:17Speaker 2: spot with how good their defensive line is and how
- 7:20Speaker 2: bad the Chiefs' offensive line is.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yeah, you've got dots. They've got Will Anderson and Daniil Hunter. Like,
- 7:27Speaker 1: that's what they got. And them boys was coming, dog.
- 7:31Speaker 1: They were on the way. They were there. So now what?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Let me tell you something about the AFC. This is
- 7:38Speaker 1: very interesting to look at, okay? Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson,
- 7:44Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. We would all agree, I think, that those
- 7:48Speaker 1: are three of the four best quarterbacks in the league.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Although Matthew Stafford is really messing up the math. Anyway,
- 7:58Speaker 1: those three guys will not be in the postseason. It
- 8:02Speaker 1: seems pretty clear that At this point, I guess it's
- 8:05Speaker 1: not too late for Baltimore to catch the Steelers. But Ryan,
- 8:09Speaker 1: we're talking about teams that look like cheeks. Specifically, Lamar
- 8:12Speaker 1: Jackson does not look like a good quarterback right now.
- 8:15Speaker 2: No, I mean, he has struggled with the Steelers historically. Like,
- 8:19Speaker 2: that's been kind of like the Lamar Jackson big game
- 8:22Speaker 2: narrative has always been around that. But he looked bad yesterday.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 8:26Speaker 1: He looked bad yesterday. He's looked bad this year. They
- 8:29Speaker 1: look bad. When are you going to fire the coach?
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a loser leaves town match between Tomlin
- 8:35Speaker 2: and Harbaugh yesterday.
- 8:36Speaker 1: That's exactly what it was. You got to get it done.
- 8:42Speaker 1: That's what that one was looking like, except we're not
- 8:44Speaker 1: having the same conversation about Harbaugh. And I find it. again,
- 8:48Speaker 1: a little bit interesting.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It's what happens when you play at 1 o'clock instead
- 8:51Speaker 2: of 425.
- 8:52Speaker 1: You know what? Great point. But I tell you who
- 8:54Speaker 1: else is playing in that game at 1 o'clock? Mike Tomlin.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And it would not have been treated like a 1
- 8:59Speaker 1: o'clock game if they had lost this. But yeah, AFC playoffs.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Get ready for Bo Nix, Drake May... Trevor Lawrence, who
- 9:07Speaker 1: looked great. I was looking up during that game, and
- 9:11Speaker 1: I was like, wow, that guy looks like he will
- 9:14Speaker 1: be the number one recruit in America.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that guy looks like the number one recruit, the
- 9:18Speaker 2: number one pick in the draft.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Yeah, he looks like the reputed Trevor Lawrence that I
- 9:22Speaker 1: honestly had not seen. The ghost of Aaron Rodgers.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Justin Herbert with a broken hand.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yes, Josh Allen, who, by the way, looked like Josh
- 9:32Speaker 1: Allen in the snow. but has not played well this year.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I think that we would all admit. So that's the
- 9:37Speaker 1: fourth of those four and his team is going to
- 9:40Speaker 1: be there. It looks like, but it isn't, but it
- 9:43Speaker 1: ain't in spite of him. I want to be clear,
- 9:44Speaker 1: but it's not so much because of him. And yes,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you say broken hand, Justin Herbert and CJ Stroud, who
- 9:49Speaker 1: got his egg scrambled, something vicious, right? This is a,
- 9:54Speaker 1: this is weird. I skipped over the Indianapolis Colts who,
- 10:00Speaker 1: man you want to talk about terrible luck terrible luck
- 10:05Speaker 1: so they traded two first round picks to get Sauce
- 10:07Speaker 1: Gardner a big part of that is because they had
- 10:09Speaker 1: found their quarterback or at least they believe they found
- 10:11Speaker 1: their quarterback I thought they got a little bit hasty
- 10:14Speaker 1: on leaning in on the idea that they had found
- 10:15Speaker 1: their quarterback. Anyway, Suss Gardner's out there, and we thought
- 10:20Speaker 1: he tore his Achilles last week. He did not.
- 10:23Speaker 2: And now he has a calf strain. Now you can't
- 10:24Speaker 2: play him because you have to treat him like he
- 10:25Speaker 2: tore his Achilles.
- 10:27Speaker 1: That is exactly it. You know what that is? It's
- 10:29Speaker 1: a pre-torn Achilles.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Basically, yeah.
- 10:31Speaker 1: That is what a calf strain is. But he did
- 10:32Speaker 1: not tear his Achilles, which had to be very relieving
- 10:35Speaker 1: to all parties involved since you traded two first-round picks
- 10:38Speaker 1: for him. But it's cool. You could do that because
- 10:40Speaker 1: you already had a quarterback, except the quarterback is Daniel Jones,
- 10:43Speaker 1: who had a bad left leg and then tore the
- 10:46Speaker 1: Achilles on his right leg on Sunday. And I would
- 10:53Speaker 1: presume that means that he can't play next week. I mean, yes,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I would presume that he cannot play next week. I
- 11:00Speaker 1: meant to say that he cannot play next season. My fault.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Though I got to tell you, Ryan, if Daniel Jones
- 11:06Speaker 1: came out there with a tour of the Achilles next
- 11:08Speaker 1: week and threw for 400 yards, oh my God, make
- 11:11Speaker 1: the movie now. Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And that movie would be not like an inspirational sports movie.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It would be science fiction.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Bionic man.
- 11:21Speaker 5: Yes, yes.
- 11:22Speaker 1: That's what it would have to be. But how do
- 11:25Speaker 1: you feel if you're them, top to bottom? Like, mortgaging
- 11:29Speaker 1: your future, two fresh-out pictures of Sauce Gardner was kind
- 11:32Speaker 1: of wild.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Right. That was like the AFC is wide open. We're
- 11:37Speaker 2: going for it. And then, you know, you get this
- 11:39Speaker 2: great corner. He's hurt within three weeks. And then now
- 11:42Speaker 2: you're starting Riley Leonard because you're a backup quarterback. You
- 11:45Speaker 2: spent a top five pick on has a broken face. Yes.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Now, also, I want to make this point about Sauce
- 11:53Speaker 1: Gardner and he is good.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I don't think any of us have any question about
- 11:59Speaker 1: the fact. That he is good. Do you know how
- 12:01Speaker 1: many interceptions he has in his career?
- 12:03Speaker 2: I'm going to say nine.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Three. Three.
- 12:10Speaker 2: That feels impossible.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Three.
- 12:12Speaker 1: He made first team all pro in two seasons where
- 12:15Speaker 1: he had two interceptions between them and one interception with none.
- 12:21Speaker 1: That's not to say he isn't good.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Of course.
- 12:24Speaker 1: But I am asking the question, if you're trading two
- 12:26Speaker 1: first round picks for a corner, Don't you kind of
- 12:28Speaker 1: want them to turn things or turn it around the
- 12:30Speaker 1: other way?
- 12:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Like that was the thing about Deion Sanders. Deion Sanders,
- 12:34Speaker 1: nobody was throwing over there. And when they did, it
- 12:36Speaker 1: was coming back. Richard Sherman always made the point that
- 12:40Speaker 1: a great DB doesn't just make they shut it down.
- 12:43Speaker 1: You also sometimes got to lull them into giving you
- 12:45Speaker 1: some picks.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Like forcing turnovers is part of the job.
- 12:48Speaker 2: But anyway, you have to be so smart. You tricked
- 12:50Speaker 2: them into throwing a pick.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Correct. So they made that move and now they're stuck
- 12:54Speaker 1: like Chuck. And yes, their first round quarterback from two
- 12:58Speaker 1: seasons ago, Anthony Richardson has a broken face, right? He
- 13:03Speaker 1: has a broken orbital bone. It is really bad. Like
- 13:06Speaker 1: people have thought that it's like, oh man, they're, they're
- 13:08Speaker 1: not telling the truth about Angie Richardson. They're hiding him. No,
- 13:10Speaker 1: they're like, yo, you can't really put this cat on camera, man.
- 13:13Speaker 1: His face is all broke up. And guess what? If
- 13:18Speaker 1: you're the Colts, you have no other option but hope
- 13:24Speaker 1: that 2026 is the year that Anthony Richardson puts it
- 13:30Speaker 1: all together. That's what you got. I don't know what
- 13:36Speaker 1: else to tell you, man. Daniel Jones coming off of
- 13:39Speaker 1: a torn Achilles, I think, is cooked. You have to
- 13:43Speaker 1: treat Daniel Jones in a lot of ways like he...
- 13:48Speaker 1: treat him like you would if he was DeAndre Jones,
- 13:50Speaker 1: which is to say, um, you know, without his athleticism,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I don't really know if he's going to be able
- 13:55Speaker 1: to get it done out here. You know what I mean?
- 13:57Speaker 1: If he's just got to stand back there in the
- 13:59Speaker 1: pocket and, uh, use his noodle. I'm not sure that's
- 14:02Speaker 1: going to be enough. You got to treat him like
- 14:04Speaker 1: DeAndre Jones. Like, Hey man, you know, he really makes
- 14:06Speaker 1: it happen because he can move once he can't move.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Oh boy.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I think the league's going to figure them out. Yep.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You got to use all those terms when you talk
- 14:14Speaker 1: about that cat, that's what it's going to be. Um,
- 14:17Speaker 1: And Ryan, all those things happen in the week, and
- 14:19Speaker 1: we still have tonight where the Eagles have the opportunity
- 14:22Speaker 1: to be more hilarious. We haven't even gotten to them.
- 14:25Speaker 1: By the way, the Rams, I know they were playing
- 14:27Speaker 1: against the Arizona Cardinals, but the Rams looked like a machine.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yeah, when they look good and Puka Deku is making
- 14:34Speaker 2: those catches, they look unstoppable.
- 14:36Speaker 1: They do. Also, for the NFC yesterday, or Sunday, I
- 14:40Speaker 1: thought it was interesting. I don't know how much of
- 14:44Speaker 1: Packers Bears you saw.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Decent amount.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Number one, that Jordan Love is an entertaining watch.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:50Speaker 2: He's so fun.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I'm glad he's not my quarterback. That would give me
- 14:55Speaker 1: a heart attack.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Correct.
- 14:56Speaker 1: However, I kind of wish he was my quarterback. Because
- 14:59Speaker 1: here's the thing. They're going to win a Super Bowl
- 15:01Speaker 1: with him. That was what really dawned on me in
- 15:03Speaker 1: watching that game. I don't know how many of them
- 15:05Speaker 1: they're going to win. They may only really be able
- 15:07Speaker 1: to pull it off once, but they're going to win
- 15:09Speaker 1: a Super Bowl with him because he is going to
- 15:11Speaker 1: have a month in the postseason once of absolute high-level
- 15:14Speaker 1: daredevil play where all the variance breaks on his side,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and it's fourth and three, and he's throwing it 30
- 15:20Speaker 1: yards down the field, and it never misses. All of
- 15:23Speaker 1: those things are going to happen. one time. I don't
- 15:26Speaker 1: know how you predict when that one time is going
- 15:29Speaker 1: to be, but it's going to happen one time. I
- 15:32Speaker 1: also thought that they had the bears. Caleb Williams had
- 15:35Speaker 1: a game where I think he was better than the numbers.
- 15:39Speaker 1: And that was, you know, I'm not there yet with him.
- 15:42Speaker 1: You guys know this, right? And I was watching the
- 15:43Speaker 1: game with Parkins and you know, Parkins has to believe
- 15:46Speaker 1: in Caleb Williams. Cause why wouldn't you do so? Otherwise
- 15:48Speaker 1: you just inflict your own misery upon yourself. It was
- 15:50Speaker 1: a little tough.
- 15:51Speaker 2: We'll chat about that tomorrow.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yes, that's right. That's right. I left before it was
- 15:57Speaker 1: time to watch Nick's team lose. Markins handles things a
- 16:01Speaker 1: little bit more smoothly. So I was there watching his
- 16:06Speaker 1: team lose. But Caleb Williams, I didn't feel like he
- 16:09Speaker 1: was getting the requisite help that he needed in the
- 16:12Speaker 1: course of that game.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Going back to the Packers, it would be very hilarious
- 16:16Speaker 2: for them to win one sooner rather than later. and
- 16:20Speaker 2: then get into the playoffs and choke repeatedly, like each
- 16:24Speaker 2: quarterback they've had the last two years.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And by the last few, you mean the last 30.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I was about to say, this is exactly what happened
- 16:32Speaker 1: with Brett Favre.
- 16:33Speaker 2: And exactly what happened with Rodgers.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So what is so interesting to me is that of
- 16:38Speaker 1: their three quarterbacks, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers are completely
- 16:42Speaker 1: different archetypes, right? Brett Favre is out here on some YOLO.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Though I contend, those four years of Brett Favre, I
- 16:49Speaker 1: want to call it like 94 to 97.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Where he won three MVPs? Yes.
- 16:54Speaker 1: They're quite possibly the best four years of football that
- 16:57Speaker 1: any quarterback has had. Because you go back and look
- 16:59Speaker 1: at it, and this is in that era of football
- 17:01Speaker 1: where Brett Favre was throwing for like 39 touchdowns and
- 17:04Speaker 1: 11 interceptions.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Brett Favre, right? Like, that's what he was on. And
- 17:10Speaker 1: then you get to Aaron Rodgers, whose problem is he's
- 17:12Speaker 1: just a little bit too cautious. And then they got
- 17:16Speaker 1: Jordan Love.
- 17:17Speaker 2: And they ended up having the exact same career.
- 17:19Speaker 1: They did. That is crazy. And now they got Jordan Love,
- 17:22Speaker 1: who was like, y'all got that old thing back.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yeah. Right?
- 17:25Speaker 1: Right? It's a rollercoaster ride, but he is their guy. Also,
- 17:29Speaker 1: shout out to you, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. How embarrassing is
- 17:32Speaker 1: that that you lost to the Saints?
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah. They've fallen apart.
- 17:36Speaker 1: At your own house.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah. They've fallen apart.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And I guess, to be fair... let us not forget
- 17:42Speaker 1: that their quarterback kind of has one arm right now.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Now granted the arm he has is the one he
- 17:48Speaker 1: throws with.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But like, I feel like as a quarterback, your other
- 17:52Speaker 1: arm is kind of like walking. You don't think about
- 17:54Speaker 1: how much you use your big toe, but it is
- 17:57Speaker 1: like part of what every part of it.
- 17:58Speaker 2: It's like, it's like when you're a quarterback and you
- 18:00Speaker 2: tear the ACL on the plant leg and it's worse
- 18:02Speaker 2: than your lead leg.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Like you, you, you don't think of it that, you know,
- 18:06Speaker 2: that other leg is more important, but it turns out.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 1: But this means that in all likelihood, the Carolina Panthers
- 18:11Speaker 1: are going to be in the playoffs. You want to
- 18:13Speaker 1: play that quarterback game in the NFC that has played
- 18:16Speaker 1: in the AFC? Like if this were the NBA, they
- 18:19Speaker 1: would be terrified of what the ratings are going to be.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah, they'd be putting a lot of games exclusively on
- 18:23Speaker 2: the NFL network.
- 18:24Speaker 1: But I will say, though, that's really funny. The NFC
- 18:29Speaker 1: quarterbacks are all interesting. There's Stafford, who's the MVP. After
- 18:34Speaker 1: he threw those two picks last week, I was like, oh,
- 18:36Speaker 1: time for that Matthew Stafford regression.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Not this year.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Not this year. Matthew Stafford is set up if he
- 18:41Speaker 1: wants to, where they can win that Super Bowl. He
- 18:43Speaker 1: can ride out like John Elway.
- 18:46Speaker 2: First ballot Hall of Famer.
- 18:47Speaker 1: And trick these people into putting him into the Hall
- 18:49Speaker 1: of Fame.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Hey, man, you win an MVP in two Super Bowls,
- 18:52Speaker 2: you're in.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and then if you go, yeah, you're right. Like
- 18:55Speaker 1: I said, Carson Palmer is like if I'd only stuck
- 18:57Speaker 1: around a little bit longer, right? Could have been me.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Jordan Love, who's up and down. Jalen Hurts.
- 19:05Speaker 2: We'll see you tonight.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I would love, by the way, I would love to
- 19:08Speaker 1: get Chris Ibsault here. Did you see when he was
- 19:10Speaker 1: on with Kevin Clark and just went with, it is
- 19:12Speaker 1: not the coach's fault at all in Philadelphia. It is
- 19:15Speaker 1: entirely on the quarterback.
- 19:17Speaker 2: He, he is very good. He really likes getting on
- 19:20Speaker 2: one of those islands.
- 19:22Speaker 1: He's willing.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Cause like everyone, every other person we talked about this
- 19:26Speaker 2: a while ago, I think it was last week about
- 19:27Speaker 2: how every other film person is like, it's the scheme.
- 19:31Speaker 2: It's the scheme.
- 19:31Speaker 1: It's the scheme.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:32Speaker 2: But now he's like, no, it's the quarterback.
- 19:35Speaker 1: He's willing. He's willing. And I have to tell you,
- 19:38Speaker 1: and you guys who ever rooted for the University of
- 19:40Speaker 1: Texas will understand, you'll never be able to ever would
- 19:43Speaker 1: have convinced the 2001 version of me that i would
- 19:46Speaker 1: like the chris sims this much in 2025 right i'm
- 19:49Speaker 1: not saying he's right about all these things but i
- 19:52Speaker 1: could write a book on like my voyage in sports
- 19:55Speaker 1: fandom and logic everything i.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Learned about football i learned through experiencing chris sims yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Well realizing like hey man you've got a really passionate
- 20:04Speaker 1: opinion about this person you'd ever met before. You might
- 20:09Speaker 1: want to dial that back a little.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Are you guys the same age?
- 20:13Speaker 1: Effectively.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Effectively. Chris Sims, I'm probably like a couple of months
- 20:18Speaker 1: older than him.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Got it. Okay.
- 20:20Speaker 1: He's a high school class in 99.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Got it.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Okay. Ask me how closely I followed recruiting back in
- 20:27Speaker 1: those days.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Where I could do that. But anyway, what are Baker Mayfield?
- 20:33Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, if you believe that shit. Brock Purdy, Mac Jones,
- 20:39Speaker 1: does it really matter which? Caleb Williams. We might get
- 20:44Speaker 1: some more of that Jerry Goff. The little homie Bryce Young.
- 20:48Speaker 1: And then, outside of Dak Prescott, quite possibly the best
- 20:52Speaker 1: quarterback in the NFC this season, Dakota Prescott. And somehow
- 20:57Speaker 1: still eligible for the playoffs, J.J.
- 20:59Speaker 4: McCarthy.
- 21:01Speaker 1: This is unbelievable. Weird quarterbackness, ladies and gentlemen. Weird. I
- 21:12Speaker 1: don't know if it's too early to say that I
- 21:14Speaker 1: was right. I don't even know how many of you
- 21:16Speaker 1: fully agree with me that I was right, because I
- 21:17Speaker 1: don't think you agree with me, because you keep trying
- 21:19Speaker 1: to take a problem and make it better by doing
- 21:23Speaker 1: more of the problem. But I stood alone for decades, Ryan.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Decades explaining to people that the college football playoff was
- 21:37Speaker 1: never going to be a good idea. My argument for
- 21:43Speaker 1: why it was never going to be a good idea
- 21:45Speaker 1: largely hinged on the fact that there was never going
- 21:50Speaker 1: to be a good way to come up with a
- 21:52Speaker 1: national champion in college football because the point of this
- 21:56Speaker 1: was never to name a a national championship, okay? The
- 22:03Speaker 1: reason that college sports generally, but really college football more
- 22:07Speaker 1: than anything else exists is one reason and one reason only. Vibes.
- 22:15Speaker 1: That's it. It's fun. It's a good time. Makes people
- 22:19Speaker 1: feel good. But most importantly, this game began when everything
- 22:28Speaker 1: was regionals.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Right?
- 22:31Speaker 1: Everything was really about what was going on in your
- 22:35Speaker 1: own backyard. And I have always contended that this game
- 22:40Speaker 1: is at its best and at its most enjoyable when
- 22:43Speaker 1: it is its most regional. Now, is it logical to
- 22:48Speaker 1: have a system where you determine a champion by having
- 22:53Speaker 1: a bunch of people around the corner around the country vote?
- 23:01Speaker 1: It's not illogical, actually. And the reason I say it's
- 23:05Speaker 1: not illogical is that it is no less logical than
- 23:10Speaker 1: having a room full of people sit around and vote
- 23:14Speaker 1: about who gets into your little tournament that you put
- 23:18Speaker 1: together at the end of the year. It's a different
- 23:21Speaker 1: way to do it, but it doesn't make a lot
- 23:24Speaker 1: more sense. What it is, however, is perhaps just a
- 23:28Speaker 1: little easier for people to wrap their minds around because
- 23:31Speaker 1: the logic of a tournament and head to head, it
- 23:36Speaker 1: does not tell you who a quote unquote true champion is,
- 23:39Speaker 1: nor is it especially scientific, but it is easy to understand, right? Hey,
- 23:45Speaker 1: we beat them. Now we go play another round. Now
- 23:47Speaker 1: we beat them. We go to another round.
- 23:49Speaker 6: Okay.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Like everybody gets that, but this isn't like when you
- 23:53Speaker 1: have one of these tournaments in professional sports. And a
- 23:56Speaker 1: big part of the reason why it's different when it
- 23:58Speaker 1: runs a professional sports is The leagues are small enough
- 24:02Speaker 1: and partition into divisions and conferences in such a way
- 24:07Speaker 1: that all the teams play a reasonably similar set of games.
- 24:14Speaker 1: And since they play a reasonably similar set of games,
- 24:17Speaker 1: their records are close enough to being comparable that I
- 24:22Speaker 1: can say you are 11 and two, you are 10
- 24:24Speaker 1: and one. You should be ahead of that other person
- 24:26Speaker 1: because you are 11 and two in that team is
- 24:29Speaker 1: 10 and one. Right. And then if you wind up
- 24:32Speaker 1: in a situation where they have the same record and
- 24:34Speaker 1: they played head to head, you can determine the winner
- 24:36Speaker 1: and you can use that as a tiebreaker because tiebreakers
- 24:39Speaker 1: are always going to be to a degree, some bit
- 24:40Speaker 1: arbitrary anyway. But you can just go ahead and do that.
- 24:43Speaker 1: But the key to all of that was we were
- 24:46Speaker 1: working with manageable sets of information that make it very
- 24:54Speaker 1: easy to make decisions. There was always a bit of
- 24:58Speaker 1: an understanding in college sports that. that you were not
- 25:01Speaker 1: going to be working, at least in a national context,
- 25:05Speaker 1: with manageable sets of information. You weren't, okay? So as
- 25:11Speaker 1: a result, we had things like voters and polls because
- 25:17Speaker 1: that was what you needed to make sense of what
- 25:20Speaker 1: was going on. You trusted a group of people that
- 25:22Speaker 1: you perceived to have a certain measure of expertise and
- 25:25Speaker 1: then let them vote and come up with stuff. Now again,
- 25:28Speaker 1: They wasn't always going to be out here getting it
- 25:30Speaker 1: right and everything else. But all it took was somebody
- 25:36Speaker 1: didn't like a little something that somebody did, right? And
- 25:41Speaker 1: once somebody didn't like that little something that somebody did,
- 25:45Speaker 1: now we argue about it. And now it's, why don't
- 25:48Speaker 1: we have a playoff? Everybody else has a playoff. Why
- 25:50Speaker 1: don't we have a playoff? They got a playoff in
- 25:53Speaker 1: Division I AA and it works. Why don't we have
- 25:56Speaker 1: a playoff? And I would always ask the question, man,
- 25:59Speaker 1: how the fuck you know what they do in 1AA
- 26:01Speaker 1: work or not? You ain't watching. You understand what I'm saying? Like,
- 26:08Speaker 1: everybody got so caught up on this idea that it
- 26:10Speaker 1: was necessary that this was the only legitimate way to
- 26:14Speaker 1: come up with something, right? And now you got it.
- 26:20Speaker 1: You got the playoff that you always asked for. And
- 26:24Speaker 1: I know that it apparently TV ratings have been good, right?
- 26:28Speaker 1: People watch all the games, so forth and so on.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I hear you there. I'm just asking you. What has
- 26:37Speaker 1: this made better? I want you to think about something
- 26:42Speaker 1: right fast, because I don't know how many people I've
- 26:44Speaker 1: seen talk about this. I've talked about this in this context.
- 26:48Speaker 1: And Ryan, you read these things a little bit more
- 26:50Speaker 1: than I do, right? So you feel free to let
- 26:52Speaker 1: me know if I'm wrong about this. And I think
- 26:54Speaker 1: I told you, man, just by you a little bit,
- 26:56Speaker 1: but even still, I contend that in a different era,
- 27:01Speaker 1: even though that game was number one versus number two,
- 27:05Speaker 1: I contend Indiana, who, by the way, looks like Indiana
- 27:13Speaker 1: when they are playing against Ohio State. They beat Ohio
- 27:18Speaker 1: State for the Big Ten championship. As recently as, I'll
- 27:24Speaker 1: call it 15 years ago, maybe even 10 years ago,
- 27:27Speaker 1: but let's call it 15. I think that may have
- 27:30Speaker 1: gone down as one of the biggest upsets in the
- 27:31Speaker 1: history of college football.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It's up there.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Like, I don't care about what the betting line was.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I'm talking about, in effect, how many of you really
- 27:40Speaker 1: thought that Indiana had an actual factual chance against Ohio State?
- 27:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:47Speaker 1: In the end, like I remember what a big deal
- 27:48Speaker 1: it was when Northwestern went to the Rose Bowl in 1995. OK,
- 27:52Speaker 1: it was giant. All right.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Similar. Like the thing when I think of big upsets
- 27:56Speaker 2: in college football, the first thing that jumps to mind
- 27:58Speaker 2: is is Boise State and Oklahoma in that Fiesta Bowl.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Like that, like those types of like. calibers of programs
- 28:05Speaker 2: going against each other and like looking the same on
- 28:07Speaker 2: the field and ultimately getting the win in the end.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Yeah. But Indiana to me is the same caliber of
- 28:11Speaker 1: college football program as Boise state.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Correct.
- 28:13Speaker 2: That's my point.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Now things are different now. And they'll talk about, Ooh,
- 28:17Speaker 1: it's NIL. This is a bunch of dudes from James Madison.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Like I don't think that NIL is the secret to
- 28:21Speaker 1: what Indiana is doing.
- 28:22Speaker 2: This is not what Texas tech is doing.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Right. Right. Like I think it may have something to
- 28:26Speaker 1: do perhaps with just the money, the big 10 brings
- 28:28Speaker 1: in and it allows Indiana to then be more competitive
- 28:30Speaker 1: relative to their peers or whatever, but, But no, Cignetti brought,
- 28:33Speaker 1: he brought, you remember when D.I. was like, I'm bringing
- 28:37Speaker 1: my luggage, and it's Louie? Look, Cignetti was like, I'm
- 28:41Speaker 1: bringing my luggage, and boy, is it ever sturdy. Look
- 28:44Speaker 1: at the stitching on this. It's put together so well, right?
- 28:48Speaker 1: But it's like, but they did this. And I don't
- 28:51Speaker 1: think that we are celebrating the fact that Indiana is
- 28:53Speaker 1: the number one team in the country going into the
- 28:55Speaker 1: postseason in the way that we would.
- 28:57Speaker 2: And there's no real argument for anyone else.
- 29:00Speaker 3: No.
- 29:00Speaker 4: No.
- 29:01Speaker 1: There's none. And look, they've only really played against two
- 29:04Speaker 1: good teams this year. But those two good teams are
- 29:06Speaker 1: the number three and the number five team in the country.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And they went into one of their houses and beat
- 29:11Speaker 1: them definitively. And not only did they beat Ohio State
- 29:15Speaker 1: in this championship game at a neutral site, it was
- 29:17Speaker 1: 13 to 10. Like, Ryan, you tell me if I'm crazy,
- 29:19Speaker 1: but normally you would expect in a circumstance like this
- 29:21Speaker 1: and you may use Boise State as the example. Trick plays.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, trick plays, high variance, special teams, touchdowns. But no,
- 29:30Speaker 2: they got into a needy, gritty Big Ten war with
- 29:33Speaker 2: Ohio State and beat them.
- 29:34Speaker 1: And beat them, okay? That doesn't feel like it matters
- 29:39Speaker 1: that much anymore. Like, I remember when they changed the Indiana,
- 29:42Speaker 1: speaking of Indiana, they changed the Indiana high school basketball tournament.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And I was talking to Pat Forty about this when
- 29:47Speaker 1: it happened. This is when I was first getting to
- 29:48Speaker 1: know him. And what they did was they changed it,
- 29:51Speaker 1: the Indiana State high school tournament, if you've seen Hoosiers,
- 29:58Speaker 1: it used to just be one state champion. For all
- 30:01Speaker 1: the high schools in Indiana. And then they broke it
- 30:03Speaker 1: down like it is in most states. And they have,
- 30:06Speaker 1: you know, I don't know how they call it, but 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A,
- 30:09Speaker 1: you know, up and down the line or whatever. And
- 30:11Speaker 1: 40 told me at the time, because I was like, oh,
- 30:13Speaker 1: more kids get to be champions. He's like, no, man,
- 30:15Speaker 1: they're messing with perfection. And what happens is in the
- 30:18Speaker 1: absence of all these different champions by gradiation, everybody was
- 30:22Speaker 1: playing for something different. Everybody had different stakes. And so
- 30:26Speaker 1: for the little schools, if you win one game, it
- 30:28Speaker 1: was like winning state. If you did this, that and
- 30:30Speaker 1: everything else, but allowed everybody else to come up with
- 30:32Speaker 1: what was important to them. And I think in large part,
- 30:35Speaker 1: that's what college football had always been. is we've got
- 30:38Speaker 1: these different levels. Going to the Gator Bowl means something
- 30:40Speaker 1: for different schools. Kansas went to the Orange Bowl one time.
- 30:43Speaker 1: You know what I mean? That was a big enough thing. Like,
- 30:45Speaker 1: the ability to get to all these different places, this
- 30:48Speaker 1: was what it was. This was cool. But we just
- 30:51Speaker 1: needed a national champion when the only winner from a
- 30:54Speaker 1: true national champion are nationalizing the consumption of college sports.
- 30:58Speaker 1: The only winners are television networks. ESPN in particular. Hold
- 31:03Speaker 1: that thought, okay? So, yeah. I think the Indiana example
- 31:08Speaker 1: to me points out how we kind of messed up
- 31:11Speaker 1: something just because it didn't make sense, even though it
- 31:13Speaker 1: was a lot of fun. We were better off in
- 31:17Speaker 1: that regard. So now we've got this playoff and it's
- 31:20Speaker 1: going to be a 12 team playoff and it gets
- 31:23Speaker 1: you to a committee that.
- 31:26Speaker 2: All right.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Talked about this many times as I've talked about the
- 31:30Speaker 1: playoff and everything else. And I'll say it again because
- 31:33Speaker 1: I think it's important for everybody to understand. All right.
- 31:37Speaker 1: The college football playoff is a package of television shows.
- 31:43Speaker 1: That's what it is. It is a package of television
- 31:45Speaker 1: shows presented to you by ESPN and its partners in
- 31:51Speaker 1: college football. That's what it is. They have weeks and
- 31:55Speaker 1: weeks and weeks of college football ranking shows because those
- 32:00Speaker 1: are television shows and they take those television shows and
- 32:02Speaker 1: then they go sell advertising against those television shows. And
- 32:07Speaker 1: every week, they put out their ratings. And then the
- 32:11Speaker 1: next day, you could turn on ESPN and you could
- 32:13Speaker 1: watch their television shows, as I do. And there will
- 32:17Speaker 1: be people arguing about the rankings. So it is a
- 32:21Speaker 1: television show that then begets more television. Because we will
- 32:27Speaker 1: now talk about this on all of the other television shows.
- 32:31Speaker 1: But the purpose of those rankings, and this is very
- 32:34Speaker 1: important as it goes along, is not really to keep
- 32:39Speaker 1: you posted on the progress of the teams or to
- 32:43Speaker 1: give you any real insight or understanding into what, who
- 32:48Speaker 1: is actually going to be in the college football playoff
- 32:51Speaker 1: at the end. No, sir. The purpose of those shows
- 32:55Speaker 1: are to be shows and to be television shows. The
- 32:59Speaker 1: logic that they used at any point during the process
- 33:03Speaker 1: has no tie to the What will happen in the end?
- 33:09Speaker 1: It has none whatsoever. Now, I want to say this
- 33:14Speaker 1: to that committee. You have a borderline impossible job that
- 33:17Speaker 1: you are being expected to do. It is very, very difficult.
- 33:21Speaker 1: We know this and we understand this. OK. However. And look,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you could have gone either way on this decision. You
- 33:32Speaker 1: can't explain to me how it is that Notre Dame
- 33:34Speaker 1: and Miami, it was Notre Dame ahead of Miami. And
- 33:37Speaker 1: then neither one of them played a game. And then
- 33:41Speaker 1: it was Miami over Notre Dame.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Unless you're doing a WWE style work.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I don't, by the way, they weren't doing this for
- 33:50Speaker 1: cynical reasons because the cynical move is always to put
- 33:54Speaker 1: Notre Dame in.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Right.
- 33:56Speaker 1: So I don't, The argument that people have made is
- 33:59Speaker 1: that if there was somebody between Notre Dame and Miami,
- 34:02Speaker 1: like it was BYU.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:04Speaker 1: And so if BYU was in between them, then okay.
- 34:08Speaker 1: But then once you put them right next to each other,
- 34:10Speaker 1: then that meant you had to put, that doesn't make
- 34:12Speaker 1: any sense. Like if you took geometry in high school,
- 34:15Speaker 1: you couldn't write that proof.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Like you can't like it doesn't work. There's no logic
- 34:21Speaker 1: under which this makes sense. Now, the Miami fan argument
- 34:25Speaker 1: was we beat them head to head. You beat them
- 34:28Speaker 1: by three points at home in the first game of
- 34:32Speaker 1: the season. That's a wash, right? Now, if you just
- 34:36Speaker 1: think that this is wrestling or boxing and you want
- 34:39Speaker 1: a king of the hill contest, this is where we
- 34:41Speaker 1: get into head-to-head. It's easy to understand. But if you
- 34:44Speaker 1: think about it past the top level, it gets to be.
- 34:47Speaker 2: A little ugh, right?
- 34:50Speaker 1: I don't know. Like, put it like this. We always
- 34:52Speaker 1: say that a three-point spread in favor of the home
- 34:53Speaker 1: team is a pick-em.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:58Speaker 1: You see what I mean?
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Like, this was a pick-em.
- 35:01Speaker 3: But.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I'm not going to, I'd say I ain't going to
- 35:03Speaker 1: spend my time arguing about who's number 12. It just
- 35:05Speaker 1: doesn't like really make any sense. But where they mess
- 35:08Speaker 1: themselves up to me and why this job for the
- 35:10Speaker 1: committee is so difficult. And I'm not the first person
- 35:12Speaker 1: to bring this up, obviously. It's the conferences are just
- 35:16Speaker 1: so big that there is no ability to compare records
- 35:20Speaker 1: from team to team, right? Everybody plays all these different people.
- 35:24Speaker 1: They just, they just, this is how you wind up
- 35:26Speaker 1: with Duke being the ACC champion because Duke wins a
- 35:29Speaker 1: tiebreaker where, They're a five loss team. They're tied with Miami.
- 35:35Speaker 1: They're tied with Georgia Tech. But somehow, you know, whatever
- 35:39Speaker 1: the tiebreaker came down to, it went there because remember
- 35:42Speaker 1: when people were like, well, what's the point of having divisions?
- 35:44Speaker 1: The point of having divisions is so you have a
- 35:47Speaker 1: common set of information that then allows you to decide
- 35:50Speaker 1: these two teams in your championship. You won this bracket.
- 35:53Speaker 1: You won. OK, cool. We then go from there. Otherwise,
- 35:56Speaker 1: this is what you end up with or you end
- 35:59Speaker 1: up with Ohio State and Indiana, neither of whom really
- 36:01Speaker 1: had to play anybody all year long, although Ohio State
- 36:04Speaker 1: had the Texas game and the Oregon at least they
- 36:06Speaker 1: scheduled it. But it's all haywire. None of it makes
- 36:09Speaker 1: any sense logically in trying to put it together. And
- 36:15Speaker 1: what are we going to get out of this as
- 36:16Speaker 1: a result? If it's anything like last year, you're going
- 36:19Speaker 1: to get first round playoff games that are terrible to
- 36:22Speaker 1: watch because the home teams are going to kick the
- 36:24Speaker 1: teeth in of the teams that they play against. Oregon
- 36:28Speaker 1: at home against James Madison. They are going to stomp
- 36:33Speaker 1: them boys out. Ole Miss, and by the way, what
- 36:37Speaker 1: a press conference, Pete Golding. Ole Miss and Tulane. Ryan,
- 36:43Speaker 1: I feel pretty confident. Ole Miss is probably going to
- 36:45Speaker 1: stomp them out.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Yes.
- 36:48Speaker 1: What is it, Miami? Texas A & M. I think
- 36:51Speaker 1: Texas A & M is going to blow their doors off.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Like, I just don't think they're, hoo, hoo, hoo, boy.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're ready for Marcel Reed. No.
- 36:59Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, and.
- 37:00Speaker 1: You want to talk about a coaching advantage.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Elko versus Mario Cristobal.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Especially in game once the rosters are set.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:08Speaker 1: That's kind of like Bobby Knight looking at Dale Brown
- 37:10Speaker 1: and being like, we're good. We'll be fine. Don't you
- 37:14Speaker 1: worry about that. And then what's the other one? Oh, Oklahoma, Alabama.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Well, that's good for that's good for business.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Would you like me to read the text from my
- 37:23Speaker 1: Alabama fan?
- 37:24Speaker 2: Sure would.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Friend. And just so you know, he's black. Win or
- 37:31Speaker 1: go home game for the boar. Can't lose the minimum
- 37:35Speaker 1: three times in 15 months.
- 37:37Speaker 2: That's it.
- 37:37Speaker 1: And that game's in Norman. I guess that one has
- 37:42Speaker 1: the chance to be a good one.
- 37:43Speaker 2: For sure.
- 37:43Speaker 1: That's it. But otherwise, these aren't going to be competitive games, man. Like,
- 37:47Speaker 1: that's what you got out of this. That's what you
- 37:50Speaker 1: got out of this. You had more fun when it
- 37:53Speaker 1: was a wide range of bowls. You had more fun
- 37:56Speaker 1: when they figured out one versus two setups, and then
- 37:58Speaker 1: everybody figured something else out to play for. But like this, oh,
- 38:02Speaker 1: everybody's got the chance to play. Ole Miss has a
- 38:04Speaker 1: chance to play for a title. No, they don't. They
- 38:07Speaker 1: ain't playing for no fucking title. James Madison ain't playing
- 38:09Speaker 1: for no title. Tulane ain't playing for no title. Miami
- 38:14Speaker 1: ain't playing for no title. Let me tell you who's
- 38:16Speaker 1: playing for a title. By the way, Ryan, is Indiana
- 38:21Speaker 1: playing for a title?
- 38:22Speaker 2: I guess so.
- 38:24Speaker 1: I think so.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I guess so.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I think so. But Georgia.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Playing for a title.
- 38:28Speaker 1: They're playing for a title.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Ohio State. Playing for a title.
- 38:31Speaker 1: They're playing for a title.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Oregon.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Texas Tech, maybe. Yeah, Oregon. Although, you know what? If
- 38:35Speaker 1: Oregon's playing for a title, then Indiana's playing for it.
- 38:37Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 38:37Speaker 1: But either way it goes. That's what we got. Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 1: We got four teams playing for a title. And if
- 38:42Speaker 1: you liked having a playoff, you know what we just
- 38:44Speaker 1: had very recently? A four-team playoff. that might have satisfied
- 38:50Speaker 1: exactly what you were looking for. Instead, you got all
- 38:54Speaker 1: of this.
- 38:55Speaker 2: All right, Bo, a couple other stories from the weekend.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Shador Sanders had probably his best game as a pro
- 39:09Speaker 2: for over 350 yards, four total touchdowns. However, not in
- 39:13Speaker 2: for the two-point conversion to tie. And people are mad. Bo,
- 39:18Speaker 2: what was your reaction to this?
- 39:19Speaker 1: Buddy, I feel like everything in that game, whoever be
- 39:23Speaker 1: writing that Shador script, they got a little something for
- 39:27Speaker 1: everybody now, don't they?
- 39:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I feel like I watched a decent bit of that.
- 39:32Speaker 1: He made, because he's going to hold on to the ball,
- 39:38Speaker 1: he's going to make some big plays, right?
- 39:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:42Speaker 2: If you don't pressure him immediately, he's going to get
- 39:45Speaker 2: like that. Throw the the 60 yard TD to Judy. Yes.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Very good throw. Yes. And yeah, he's going and he's
- 39:51Speaker 2: going to. And yeah, if you do not pressure him,
- 39:53Speaker 2: he's going to make big throws.
- 39:54Speaker 1: He's going to make some things happen. But he also
- 39:57Speaker 1: like he had the 60 yard. Now, the 60 yard
- 40:01Speaker 1: was the Judy was the 50 yard pass to Jenkins.
- 40:03Speaker 1: But that was a screen.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Right.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Like it doesn't. He was much better in the second
- 40:07Speaker 1: half in terms of like getting the ball down the
- 40:09Speaker 1: field and all of that stuff. Um, he's going to
- 40:11Speaker 1: be their starter for the rest of the year. They're
- 40:13Speaker 1: going to take a quarterback in the first round. Like
- 40:16Speaker 1: all of those things happen, but he did just enough
- 40:18Speaker 1: to serve whatever agenda anybody has in that one. Like
- 40:22Speaker 1: the picky through was awful. Um, it was very clear
- 40:26Speaker 1: that the Titans decided he's going to have to be
- 40:28Speaker 1: the one to beat us. He, I mean, I think
- 40:31Speaker 1: Ken Ward's out there for Dolo, like go play a
- 40:33Speaker 1: game and name that Titan. Like, go read who he's
- 40:38Speaker 1: throwing the ball over there to. You ain't heard of
- 40:40Speaker 1: none of them. I've heard of everybody that the Browns got.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I ain't ever heard of none of these guys that
- 40:44Speaker 1: the Titans are throwing to. But Shador outplayed him, right? Like,
- 40:48Speaker 1: he played against number one pick. He outplayed him. They
- 40:51Speaker 1: were in it at the end. And then Stefanski, like,
- 40:54Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, the way the two-point conversions work
- 40:56Speaker 1: for teams, they have a two-point play they practice all week.
- 40:59Speaker 1: And when it comes down to it, that's the one
- 41:00Speaker 1: that they're going to run. And, buddy, Stefanski, that couldn't
- 41:03Speaker 1: have been the two-point play that you practiced. Like, they
- 41:06Speaker 1: marched that all the way down the field, and you
- 41:08Speaker 1: took them off the field again. And then y'all ran
- 41:12Speaker 1: the play wrong.
- 41:13Speaker 2: That is– I'm not saying Stefanski was sabotaging Shadurah Sanders. However,
- 41:21Speaker 2: if you want– If that was your thought, I don't–
- 41:26Speaker 2: I don't have the camera.
- 41:28Speaker 1: But the problem is, if he had put him out
- 41:31Speaker 1: there and they didn't like the play that he called
- 41:33Speaker 1: for Shador Sanders, that would also be evidence of sabotage. Like,
- 41:38Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. This game is like every game
- 41:40Speaker 1: with him seems to be a little bit of whatever
- 41:43Speaker 1: you need or want it to be, right? The part
- 41:47Speaker 1: that Stefanski is going to have the hardest part explaining
- 41:50Speaker 1: to anybody at this point is, how dylan gabriel got
- 41:55Speaker 1: to play this many games and look the people who
- 41:58Speaker 1: are like dismissive of the idea that dylan gabriel never
- 42:01Speaker 1: should have started over shador sanders no i think that's
- 42:03Speaker 1: ridiculous shador sanders was second team all-american last year first
- 42:06Speaker 1: team all-american was dylan gabriel like i don't know why
- 42:08Speaker 1: we act like these are two guys of wildly different
- 42:12Speaker 1: calibers like dylan gabriel won everywhere that he went in
- 42:15Speaker 1: college and look he went a lot of places a
- 42:16Speaker 1: lot of places yeah right but at the same time,
- 42:20Speaker 1: like what was buddy's name? Uh, during the elections, I've
- 42:23Speaker 1: seen enough. Like, I don't know. I've not seen enough
- 42:25Speaker 1: to say Shador is a starter or anything else, but
- 42:28Speaker 1: I've seen enough to say that he's better than Dylan Gabriel.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:31Speaker 1: And I don't know how Stefanski answers for that.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Yeah. We went from the Philly special to the Shador scandal.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Oh God. What are, what is this? This, but you
- 42:40Speaker 1: know what? At least it's at a place where, yeah,
- 42:42Speaker 1: we could do this every week, but we only have
- 42:43Speaker 1: to do it in this place.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Right. Exactly. Um, all right. So, uh, Magic and the
- 42:49Speaker 2: Knicks played yesterday. A little bit of a kerfuffle between O.G.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Onobi and Desmond Bain. You were in attendance for this.
- 42:59Speaker 2: You said you had a funny story.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Okay, so I was right there. A friend of mine,
- 43:04Speaker 1: my man Corey, shout out to him, had tickets to
- 43:07Speaker 1: the game, invited me to come. I came to the game, right?
- 43:11Speaker 1: Our seats were literally directly behind the Orlando Magic bench, right?
- 43:19Speaker 1: Here's the problem with that. My seats were directly behind.
- 43:23Speaker 1: A lot of tall people. Like, a lot of really
- 43:27Speaker 1: tall people. Like, you'd be wanting to be like, hey, yo. Like,
- 43:30Speaker 1: I had one so often. This one dude, man. He's like,
- 43:32Speaker 1: down in front. Just kept standing up the whole game.
- 43:35Speaker 1: But it was Jonathan Isaac.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I was about to say, is he still on the Magic?
- 43:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Like, I can't tell him to sit down.
- 43:42Speaker 1: But anyway, it was right there in front of me.
- 43:45Speaker 1: And I don't know what Desmond Bain was thinking. It
- 43:48Speaker 1: was such a preposterous thing. He cocked. He cocked back.
- 43:53Speaker 1: There was a whole fast break. Like, it wasn't like
- 43:55Speaker 1: he was about to fall out of bounds. And OG
- 43:58Speaker 1: got up just kind of like, I don't understand what just.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Yeah, he wasn't even angry. He seemed confused.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Yeah, like, it would have been different if he had heard, like,
- 44:08Speaker 1: Desmond Bain hit the ground after because he had jumped
- 44:11Speaker 1: up in the air or something.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 1: No, he was just like, yo, what are you doing?
- 44:14Speaker 1: And Desmond Bain, it was wild to watch it wash
- 44:18Speaker 1: over the magic bench who didn't all necessarily see it
- 44:21Speaker 1: when it happened. Then as they watch it on the replay,
- 44:24Speaker 1: it'd be like, yeah, that was kind of messed up. Yeah,
- 44:28Speaker 1: he shouldn't have done that. One cat was on the bench.
- 44:30Speaker 1: He was like, it's legal, though. It's legal, though. Jokic
- 44:33Speaker 1: do it. He's still throwing. It's hard.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Well, kind of, you know, the... the amount of intensity
- 44:40Speaker 2: is kind of the problem. It's the difference between a
- 44:42Speaker 2: pat and a slap, you know?
- 44:43Speaker 1: There's nothing quite like when you're riding for your mans
- 44:46Speaker 1: and then you find out your mans is a hundred
- 44:48Speaker 1: percent wrong. And now you've got to figure out.
- 44:51Speaker 2: What you're going to do.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I just, it was, it was a really strange decision
- 44:57Speaker 1: by Desmond Bay. That's the, that's the best that I
- 44:59Speaker 1: got for you. I also was right there when Franz
- 45:01Speaker 1: got hurt and I'm lucky I didn't see that cause
- 45:03Speaker 1: that sounded like it was bad. Yeah. All right.
- 45:06Speaker 2: And finally, uh, The Diddy documentary on Netflix came out
- 45:10Speaker 2: this past week. Executive produced by 50 Cent. You have
- 45:15Speaker 2: mentioned it a couple times last week. Finally watched it.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I finally watched it. What was your biggest takeaway from
- 45:21Speaker 2: the Diddy documentary?
- 45:21Speaker 1: First of all, it's excellent.
- 45:23Speaker 2: It's really good.
- 45:25Speaker 1: It's a legitimately excellent piece of work. If you have
- 45:27Speaker 1: not seen it, you should see it. We're trying to
- 45:29Speaker 1: get an interview with the director. I don't know if
- 45:31Speaker 1: that's going to work out, but.
- 45:31Speaker 2: I'm just telling you. We're doing something ditty this week,
- 45:34Speaker 2: so everyone should watch it. Yes, yes.
- 45:36Speaker 1: It is excellent. Joel from Missouri City, we're talking to you.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Watch it, because you might be a guest. What is
- 45:46Speaker 1: so interesting in watching that is how abhorrent he has
- 45:50Speaker 1: always been. And we just didn't know it, but it's
- 45:54Speaker 1: not like you look at the old clips of him
- 45:55Speaker 1: and you're like, wow, he wasn't like anything like he
- 45:57Speaker 1: was later. No, he was the exact same person the
- 46:00Speaker 1: whole way. Just wow. Terrible. Lots of questions about different
- 46:08Speaker 1: things and different people involved. Some of those questions are
- 46:11Speaker 1: only questions that I ask when nobody else is around.
- 46:14Speaker 1: You know what I mean? But I will just tell
- 46:19Speaker 1: you guys this part. And this is what I thought
- 46:22Speaker 1: was the most diabolical thing. When Puff was all up
- 46:27Speaker 1: in the videos, dancing, I didn't know he was charging
- 46:33Speaker 1: people for it. Like, when he was all up in there,
- 46:38Speaker 1: he was stealing they shine and making them give him
- 46:42Speaker 1: money for it.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Just a, like, a clear from the get-go, I am
- 46:51Speaker 2: going to... places I'm stepping on every person I can
- 46:54Speaker 2: get to along the way.
- 46:56Speaker 6: Yes.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I can't imagine. And I don't have any other real
- 46:59Speaker 1: example of this, right? Because like, take a guy like
- 47:01Speaker 1: Master P for example, where to me, Master P was
- 47:03Speaker 1: not a rapper, but when we heard about Master P,
- 47:06Speaker 1: he was a rapper. You know what I mean? Like
- 47:08Speaker 1: he always led the business with his own rapping and
- 47:11Speaker 1: then like built a label around it, but he always
- 47:14Speaker 1: presented his rapper. Um, and it was a better rapper
- 47:17Speaker 1: than Puffy for whatever it's worth. I cannot, imagine being
- 47:24Speaker 1: puffy and being like, I'm going to start a record
- 47:26Speaker 1: company and then I'm going to start rapping because that's
- 47:29Speaker 1: where the shine is at. Because he's terrible. Ryan, you
- 47:34Speaker 1: said you had to learn the hard way.
- 47:36Speaker 2: I just always assumed that like, okay, at least he
- 47:39Speaker 2: was kind of good. He had songs on the radio.
- 47:42Speaker 5: No.
- 47:43Speaker 1: No. Awful rapper. Awful rapper. But you got to watch it.
- 47:45Speaker 1: I'm trying not to tell you too much about it,
- 47:47Speaker 1: but the Biggie Tupac episode, it'll make you mad. Whichever
- 47:52Speaker 1: side of the Biggie Tupac you were on, it'll make
- 47:55Speaker 1: you mad. By the way, fun thing about Biggie Tupac
- 47:57Speaker 1: is the years have gone on. Nobody ever acts like
- 48:00Speaker 1: they were on just one side of that. When you were.
- 48:03Speaker 1: I was there. I was here for this period of life.
- 48:07Speaker 1: You were, right? And whichever side you were on, the
- 48:11Speaker 1: bad guy is Diddy. Diddy is the bad guy behind everything.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Y'all need to be glad. Diddy need to be glad
- 48:18Speaker 1: that Shine is down there being a conservative politician in
- 48:21Speaker 1: his ancestral homeland. Because I would have loved to heard
- 48:26Speaker 1: the interviews with him. Like, it's so bad, they didn't
- 48:29Speaker 1: even have to talk about blowing up Kid Cudi's car.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Remember that? That happened. At least they said it happened.
- 48:36Speaker 1: I don't know. But anyway, no, you need to go
- 48:38Speaker 1: check that out, man. It's a serious piece of work.
- 48:40Speaker 1: I don't watch it twice, and I might watch it again.
- 48:48Speaker 2: All right, Bo, voicemail lines open. A lot of good ones.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Here's our first.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Hey, what's good, Bo? This is Jay from Kentucky. Man,
- 48:57Speaker 3: real quick, I was just thinking about how, you know,
- 48:59Speaker 3: it's great seeing teams like Indiana and Vanderbilt, you know,
- 49:04Speaker 3: finally having, you know, solid football programs after, you know,
- 49:09Speaker 3: what seems like forever. And it got me thinking, man,
- 49:12Speaker 3: I'd be pissed if I was a school like Kentucky or, UNC,
- 49:17Speaker 3: especially after this year. so I guess my question is
- 49:21Speaker 3: what do you think which school do you think is
- 49:23Speaker 3: the most pissed that they football program is cheeks right
- 49:28Speaker 3: now especially with NIL and everything love the show man
- 49:32Speaker 3: and keep doing what you're doing.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I mean look there's a I mean, Ryan, it probably
- 49:40Speaker 1: has to be you guys, right?
- 49:41Speaker 2: LSU. Well, well, this was six weeks ago before.
- 49:44Speaker 1: We got to do that.
- 49:46Speaker 2: People are much happier now.
- 49:48Speaker 1: So I think though, I need to like, I don't
- 49:51Speaker 1: know in, in the, in line with what my man
- 49:53Speaker 1: was talking about. Like I feel like there's two levels
- 49:54Speaker 1: of teams, right? Like there's the LSU type teams. They're
- 49:56Speaker 1: just not good right now. And then there are the
- 50:00Speaker 1: teams that are like systemically bad or systemic underachievers. And
- 50:04Speaker 1: I think those are the ones that get most upset
- 50:06Speaker 1: by seeing the Indiana and Vanderbilt. And I'm not sure
- 50:11Speaker 1: anybody is more upset about being mediocre at football right
- 50:14Speaker 1: now for the reasons that we just described than North Carolina.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Oh, interesting. I had a different top three.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Who were you thinking?
- 50:21Speaker 2: Number three, Florida State.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Number two, USC.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:27Speaker 2: And number one, Nebraska.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Okay. Nebraska's interesting because I don't know what their reasonable
- 50:33Speaker 1: expectations are. You know what I mean? Like, it'll never
- 50:37Speaker 1: be what it was.
- 50:39Speaker 2: I think their expectation is maybe not what it was,
- 50:44Speaker 2: but they watch, they're watching Texas tech BYU in the
- 50:47Speaker 2: big 12.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Well, my thing is they're like, why can't we be
- 50:50Speaker 1: as good as Wisconsin?
- 50:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 50:52Speaker 1: But as of right now, Wisconsin also stinks. Right. But
- 50:54Speaker 1: with North Carolina. So I think that those schools you describe,
- 50:59Speaker 1: I guess, generally speaking.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I all did tier one types.
- 51:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 1: But I guess what I'm saying is this, I think
- 51:04Speaker 1: they are all very upset about being mediocre.
- 51:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:08Speaker 1: But not because they look at Vanderbilt and are like, yo,
- 51:13Speaker 1: what about us?
- 51:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I think North Carolina, they look at Vanderbilt.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:19Speaker 1: They look at Indiana, especially a basketball school. Right. They
- 51:23Speaker 1: look at them and they're like, OK, now we have
- 51:25Speaker 1: no excuse. Florida State looks at that, and they're just
- 51:28Speaker 1: even more offended. But North Carolina is like, so what's
- 51:30Speaker 1: wrong with us, huh? At least Florida State, they got
- 51:33Speaker 1: a proof of concept. They have reason to believe that
- 51:36Speaker 1: it can be something. North Carolina's like, oh, so we
- 51:38Speaker 1: went and hired the greatest football coach in the history
- 51:40Speaker 1: of Earth.
- 51:42Speaker 2: And we still stink.
- 51:43Speaker 1: And we still 80 out here embarrassing us.
- 51:47Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Hey, Bomani, this is Ron in Tennessee. I'm a long-time listener, long-lived,
- 51:54Speaker 4: the Morning Jones. Hey, man, I got a question for you.
- 51:58Speaker 4: I'm a diehard Lakers fan, by the way, so take
- 52:01Speaker 4: that as an aside. But why do we keep saying
- 52:05Speaker 4: that Ty Lue is such a great coach? It's never
- 52:08Speaker 4: his fault. The last five years.
- 52:11Speaker 6: The Clippers, with all the talent that's gone back and
- 52:14Speaker 6: forth in all the different categories, manufacturing of these dream
- 52:19Speaker 6: rosters and everything else, I think they have won 50
- 52:21Speaker 6: wins in the last five years.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Maybe this is a loss.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 52:26Speaker 6: Maybe to the Western Conference Finals in 2021.
- 52:30Speaker 2: They've not won shit.
- 52:32Speaker 6: Ty Lue is always a great coach, especially given the
- 52:35Speaker 6: fact that how he just unceremoniously told Chris Paul, as
- 52:41Speaker 6: you put it, to call us Tyrone. And they're 5-16
- 52:44Speaker 6: this year. Why does he always get a pass? Why
- 52:48Speaker 6: do we always say he's such a great coach and
- 52:49Speaker 6: he ain't did shit?
- 52:51Speaker 1: Go Lakers.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Appreciate you, Balani.
- 52:55Speaker 1: One of my favorite things about Lakers fans in the last,
- 52:59Speaker 1: we'll call it 15 years, right? Remember that year when
- 53:04Speaker 1: they had Dwight Howard and they had to scrape to
- 53:06Speaker 1: make it to the playoffs? I used to send out
- 53:08Speaker 1: a hashtag called, this is who you are now. because
- 53:12Speaker 1: they used to get on teams who were just happy
- 53:14Speaker 1: to go to the playoffs, and then they was on
- 53:16Speaker 1: Twitter all happy about going to the playoffs. And I
- 53:18Speaker 1: was like, this is who you are now. Lakers fans
- 53:21Speaker 1: have become different people than they used to be because
- 53:25Speaker 1: circumstances have changed. Circumstances change men. Men don't change circumstances.
- 53:30Speaker 1: I forget what book I read that in, but it's
- 53:33Speaker 1: a great book.
- 53:34Speaker 2: That's a great line. Right, right.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Anyway, so the Lakers have been changed, and They will
- 53:40Speaker 1: never believe the Clippers are their rival. But they are
- 53:44Speaker 1: much more concerned with explaining why the Clippers are not
- 53:47Speaker 1: their rival.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Than they used to be.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Than they ever were before, right? And so this is
- 53:51Speaker 1: one of my favorite subsets is Lakers fans talking down
- 53:56Speaker 1: on the Clippers. And I guess I would say the
- 54:00Speaker 1: Clippers have definitely been a better team the last 10 years.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Except the Lakers do have that championship.
- 54:03Speaker 2: They do.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Right? They do have that. But to add, it is
- 54:08Speaker 1: a fair question for you to ask. I do think
- 54:10Speaker 1: that Lou is a good coach. I don't know how
- 54:14Speaker 1: much of this is his fault, but don't you worry, buddy.
- 54:17Speaker 1: He'll be getting some blame. I'm shocked they haven't fired
- 54:21Speaker 1: him yet. Five of 16 gets you fired.
- 54:25Speaker 2: I think they have other things going on.
- 54:27Speaker 1: They do.
- 54:28Speaker 2: I think one thing that helps Ty Lou is he's
- 54:31Speaker 2: never been the biggest culprit. You could always blame... kawaii
- 54:36Speaker 2: you can always blame so like when whenever you're not
- 54:39Speaker 2: the worst issue you sometimes you manage to skate.
- 54:43Speaker 1: By yeah i think that is probably the best way
- 54:47Speaker 1: for us to put this but i do think it
- 54:49Speaker 1: is fair to say that there is a measure of
- 54:53Speaker 1: there there's some skating going on there's some skating.
- 54:57Speaker 6: All right here's our last one what's up omani uh
- 55:00Speaker 6: just heard the podcast yeah.
- 55:03Speaker 5: And somebody was talking about the first time they took
- 55:04Speaker 5: a walk with their cousin. I remember the first time
- 55:07Speaker 5: I took a walk with my cousins, because it was
- 55:10Speaker 5: a group of us, we was in Yosemite National Park.
- 55:13Speaker 5: And I didn't know what we was going for either.
- 55:15Speaker 5: I thought we was just walking because we was at
- 55:17Speaker 5: a campsite. And we walking and we walking. And then they,
- 55:21Speaker 5: you know, then they pull out like.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Oh, okay, this is what we're doing?
- 55:24Speaker 5: Oh, I didn't know we was doing this. And on
- 55:27Speaker 5: the way, we got lost on the way back to
- 55:30Speaker 5: the campsite. And good thing we got lost because if
- 55:36Speaker 5: we made it back exactly where we were supposed to,
- 55:39Speaker 5: we would have ran into a bear. And we came
- 55:43Speaker 5: back about 90 seconds later, and my family is running
- 55:48Speaker 5: around screaming for their life. And we're like, what happened?
- 55:51Speaker 5: What happened? Oh, y'all didn't see that bear? Nope, sure
- 55:56Speaker 5: didn't because we got lost on the walk with my cousin,
- 56:01Speaker 5: Cordae from the Bay.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Right. First of all, that is an amazing story. I
- 56:13Speaker 1: don't know what y'all would have took another walk if
- 56:16Speaker 1: y'all would have got some left. Right.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 1: If y'all had encountered the bear.
- 56:20Speaker 5: But.
- 56:22Speaker 1: I'll feel bad about asking this question, not even in
- 56:25Speaker 1: front of Ryan. He said he, Corday from the Bay,
- 56:29Speaker 1: said they was at Yosemite. And I'm like, brother, was
- 56:32Speaker 1: you adopted?
- 56:34Speaker 2: I saw that look on your face.
- 56:36Speaker 1: It was on your face too. You just get to
- 56:40Speaker 1: listen to these for the first time in private. I
- 56:42Speaker 1: was like, huh, you guys are okay. Okay. You know,
- 56:46Speaker 1: West coast, y'all look different. I don't even know. Okay.
- 56:49Speaker 1: I got you. I got you.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Groups can mix.
- 56:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 56:53Speaker 1: This is, there's a, that's a, that's a serious, serious story.
- 56:56Speaker 1: I just want to, I want to know what it's
- 56:59Speaker 1: like when y'all got back to the bay and explain
- 57:01Speaker 1: to the other black people that y'all ran up on
- 57:03Speaker 1: a bear and After y'all had took a walk in Yosemite,
- 57:06Speaker 1: I told y'all not to go out there. Hey, man,
- 57:09Speaker 1: I told y'all not to go out there, man. You know, like, oh,
- 57:13Speaker 1: my God. That was that.
- 57:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 57:16Speaker 1: That was absolutely amazing. Thank you, Cordae from the Bay.
- 57:20Speaker 1: You you you really made my day better with that story.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Wow.
