- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome it.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Change Makers to the Deck Show with Tim Flower and
- 0:05Speaker 2: Tom mcgra let's get into it.
- 0:09Speaker 3: The change Makers, Welcome to the Deck Show. Show within
- 0:12Speaker 3: a show. It is of course Reality Bites, and I
- 0:16Speaker 3: think we have almost in fact, we do have a
- 0:19Speaker 3: full Reality Bites team for you or for the full
- 0:23Speaker 3: panel in the house. So that's Diana Megan Oriana Sean
- 0:27Speaker 3: and of course Tim. And it's for a for a
- 0:29Speaker 3: special and sad occasion, which is as listeners to the
- 0:32Speaker 3: show last week, we'll already know Tim Flower leaving us.
- 0:36Speaker 3: He's only got he's only got one episode left everybody,
- 0:42Speaker 3: and so we all wanted to come together. We had
- 0:44Speaker 3: a couple of things on the docket to day to discuss.
- 0:46Speaker 3: But first and foremost is, obviously it's one of the
- 0:49Speaker 3: things about having two podcasts in one, as our listeners
- 0:53Speaker 3: are so lucky to receive, is you've gotta You've got,
- 0:55Speaker 3: You've gotta have you got to take leave of of
- 0:58Speaker 3: of treasured men, is of a team twice and that's
- 1:01Speaker 3: what we've got to do episode however briefly or all
- 1:04Speaker 3: along or lengthily team as you professor today, we've gotta,
- 1:09Speaker 3: we gotta, we've got to take leave of you with
- 1:10Speaker 3: the whole, the whole reality by its team here, of
- 1:13Speaker 3: which you are such a such a critical and and
- 1:16Speaker 3: valued member.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Yeah, and I said it just a minute ago time
- 1:20Speaker 4: when we were before we started recording. I'm comfortable with
- 1:23Speaker 4: the spotlight, but that allows me to talk about other
- 1:26Speaker 4: people and other things. I'm not comfortable with the spotlight
- 1:28Speaker 4: on me. So I appreciate it all. But I will,
- 1:32Speaker 4: I will, I will live through it in a little
- 1:34Speaker 4: bit of pain. Yeah, yeah, it is. It is bad.
- 1:38Speaker 3: The thing about having a say goodbye a couple of times,
- 1:41Speaker 3: it's a bit depressing that.
- 1:44Speaker 5: So I'll just I'll start by saying, you know this,
- 1:47Speaker 5: and I said in in our other show this, uh,
- 1:51Speaker 5: this part of my role being able to work with
- 1:53Speaker 5: each of you, the best professionals in each of your
- 1:57Speaker 5: roles that that I could ever have imagined being able
- 1:59Speaker 5: to work with.
- 2:01Speaker 4: It's been such a huge part of my career here.
- 2:05Speaker 4: It's given a platform to talk about things. I enjoy
- 2:08Speaker 4: working with each and every one of you. And I'm
- 2:09Speaker 4: going to miss it hugely.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yes, we we will miss you a lot. And like
- 2:14Speaker 1: it's it's been a good ride since since they won.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But even like the arguments and the counter arguments and everything.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So we'll miss having you around, not just what these months,
- 2:26Speaker 1: but all of it. However, super super happy for you.
- 2:33Speaker 6: It's gonna definitely be a noted absence on the podcast.
- 2:36Speaker 6: I think the lack of Tim Flowers voice. Sorry Tom,
- 2:39Speaker 6: not that you don't feel.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I know, I know, right, It's okay.
- 2:50Speaker 4: But that's the great thing about this group is we
- 2:52Speaker 4: all have a not only a unique sounding voice, but
- 2:54Speaker 4: we all have a unique opinion in our voice. So
- 2:58Speaker 4: that's the cool thing about having and Tom is your
- 3:00Speaker 4: brain child of bringing us all together to share.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Different Now, Tim, you really can't have the attention on
- 3:05Speaker 6: you Kenya. You're like immediately just used. Look, let's talk
- 3:07Speaker 6: about Toda, let's talking about everybody else.
- 3:10Speaker 4: That's funny, No.
- 3:11Speaker 6: But Tim. Also, on a personal note, I've been at
- 3:13Speaker 6: Next Think now for four years, and I if I
- 3:15Speaker 6: think about like when I joined Next Thing, right, I'd
- 3:18Speaker 6: never worked in the IT space before.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I didn't know anything about it.
- 3:21Speaker 6: I was the nightmare that had to be told you
- 3:23Speaker 6: have to turn your computer off and on again, Like
- 3:25Speaker 6: I just someone had to teach me that a restart
- 3:27Speaker 6: was the thing you had to do. You are one
- 3:30Speaker 6: of the people at Next Think that helped me get
- 3:34Speaker 6: acclimated and adjusted quickly. If I think back, I mean
- 3:37Speaker 6: you are one of the people that I learned the
- 3:38Speaker 6: most from, both in you know, listening to the podcast
- 3:42Speaker 6: and everything that you said on there when I first
- 3:44Speaker 6: joined the company, but also just meeting you and talking
- 3:46Speaker 6: to you, and you have such an approachable way about
- 3:49Speaker 6: discussing complex issues and you never made me feel like
- 3:52Speaker 6: I was an idiot if I didn't know a term.
- 3:55Speaker 6: So yeah, thank you, and you're definitely definitely gonna miss
- 3:59Speaker 6: you around at Next Thing.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I appreciate that, Megan, you did the same for me.
- 4:03Speaker 4: I was a fish out of water and still many
- 4:05Speaker 4: ways I am in marketing and everybody, including you, are
- 4:08Speaker 4: always welcoming and helped me kind of get acclimated there.
- 4:11Speaker 4: So it's a two way street. Appreciate it well.
- 4:15Speaker 7: Holp y'all lean and echo everything as well.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Tim.
- 4:17Speaker 7: I know we already spoke.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I'm not going to be uh in Lisbon.
- 4:20Speaker 7: Next week to say goodbye, but again, such a joy
- 4:25Speaker 7: and easy to work with. I think as what we
- 4:27Speaker 7: all asked for at a colleague, So you'll.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Be waiting short as for short off for Eve.
- 4:32Speaker 7: He's ease, ease of use and listening to me, Yes,
- 4:36Speaker 7: you simployee exactly, Thanks Sean.
- 4:40Speaker 8: Yeah, definitely echoing what everybody else has said. And it's
- 4:43Speaker 8: going to be so different without you. I feel like
- 4:46Speaker 8: you've been our steady anchor in a lot of ways. Yeah.
- 4:52Speaker 8: And also you have this amazing eagle eye view that
- 4:57Speaker 8: has completely changed my perspective on how I think about
- 5:01Speaker 8: industry and business and it's really given me so much
- 5:05Speaker 8: understanding of like how people in leadership need to think
- 5:12Speaker 8: about the problems that we talk about on here all
- 5:15Speaker 8: the time, and it's been really helpful for me to
- 5:19Speaker 8: grow my own perspective. I feel like I've learned so much.
- 5:23Speaker 8: You know, obviously that's that's the point of the podcast,
- 5:26Speaker 8: right Our listeners are burning to you. But I feel
- 5:29Speaker 8: so lucky that I get to have the you know,
- 5:31Speaker 8: the uncensored, unedited version where we get all of your
- 5:35Speaker 8: thought process and your commentary. It feels like, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 8: we get that little bit of extra tim flower that
- 5:45Speaker 8: is really precious. So thank you so much for everything
- 5:48Speaker 8: that you've shared here and in general and working with us.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I appreciate that. Arian. I'm going to go get my
- 5:56Speaker 4: box's issues now, but also a very nice thing.
- 5:58Speaker 3: These are the out of fear for everybody. I'll save
- 6:01Speaker 3: my version of it because we Listener, so you know,
- 6:04Speaker 3: we got Tim has one last show with us. That's
- 6:06Speaker 3: a deck show, deck show, if you will, and that's
- 6:09Speaker 3: going to be next week. So this is the Reality
- 6:11Speaker 3: bites goodbye. And I'm sure, I'm sure Listener is a
- 6:14Speaker 3: more than patient to take proper leave of such a stalwart,
- 6:19Speaker 3: such a vital member of the team. And we've got
- 6:22Speaker 3: such big shoes to fill here as in the main show,
- 6:25Speaker 3: and we'll reveal our plans to try and keep pace
- 6:28Speaker 3: once we've said goodbye to Tim properly, which will be
- 6:32Speaker 3: as already teased in Lisbon in person next week at
- 6:36Speaker 3: the Next Thing kickoff, where we'll also be in a
- 6:38Speaker 3: position to spill some of the secrets, to spill some
- 6:41Speaker 3: of the upcoming big revelations in decks coming coming coming
- 6:47Speaker 3: from Next Thing and into the industry this year. And
- 6:50Speaker 3: one of them, I mean, we just had I thought,
- 6:52Speaker 3: looked before a couple of other things to touch upon today,
- 6:57Speaker 3: and I thought, this is a great opportunity to get
- 6:59Speaker 3: your last Reality by its hot take, which is on
- 7:04Speaker 3: the Spark release, right, I'm calling it the dawn of
- 7:08Speaker 3: a gentic it T. That's what I'm into, that's what
- 7:12Speaker 3: I'm running with that. But maybe for listeners who who
- 7:16Speaker 3: haven't haven't seen the news, who haven't heard of Spark,
- 7:19Speaker 3: maybe give us a the overview that you do so
- 7:22Speaker 3: well and your own reflections on it. It's kind of
- 7:24Speaker 3: pivotal point of view because it is. It is a
- 7:26Speaker 3: monumental release from Next think it does point to the
- 7:29Speaker 3: future of decks. I think very firmly and clearly.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Yeah, when I hear agentic AI, I think of some
- 7:39Speaker 4: kind of automation that's running in the back end doing
- 7:42Speaker 4: things for a subprocess or something that's taking action in
- 7:48Speaker 4: the back end. This is the front end of that. Right.
- 7:53Speaker 4: When I first started talking with our folks about the
- 7:56Speaker 4: concept of Spark, the first thing that came to mind
- 8:00Speaker 4: was and this little age me. But I'm sure it's
- 8:03Speaker 4: up on YouTube. Go find this Saturday Night Live skit
- 8:06Speaker 4: of the IT guy, and it's just the the young
- 8:10Speaker 4: kid arrogant. He's angry, he's you know, the employee isn't
- 8:15Speaker 4: doing what they're supposed to do. He yells at him
- 8:16Speaker 4: to move and he sits in their chair, he types
- 8:18Speaker 4: on the keyboard and fast and he fixed.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Shout out to our listeners. Shut out.
- 8:24Speaker 4: And hopefully some of the listeners will. But that was
- 8:28Speaker 4: the you know, this takes all of the wealth of
- 8:32Speaker 4: IT knowledge and it brings contextual information right to the
- 8:37Speaker 4: employee and and gives them that ability they've been they've
- 8:42Speaker 4: been kind of at the mercy of it for a decade.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Something breaks and they're not technical for the most part,
- 8:47Speaker 4: and this helps bridge that gap. When I first early on,
- 8:52Speaker 4: when we were developing the deck score and customers are saying,
- 8:55Speaker 4: you know, what would be really cool is to have
- 8:57Speaker 4: a widget on my desktop that told me my score,
- 9:00Speaker 4: my individual score for my machine. And while it was interesting,
- 9:05Speaker 4: the question always is, and then what's the employee going
- 9:08Speaker 4: to do with their score? It doesn't there's no thing.
- 9:11Speaker 4: This was the time where you still had to troubleshoot
- 9:13Speaker 4: and actually go take action and fix things. Now it's
- 9:17Speaker 4: the other way around. Now it's the score that doesn't
- 9:19Speaker 4: really matter the employee because they've got an IT partner
- 9:21Speaker 4: built in was far get Just ask it, why did
- 9:24Speaker 4: my PC just reboot? And it will go find the
- 9:27Speaker 4: answer and fix it. For you. So I think it's
- 9:28Speaker 4: a really cool next evolution of where things are going.
- 9:32Speaker 8: I'm really excited to see how it's evolved because I
- 9:35Speaker 8: started working at the product team right when you sort
- 9:38Speaker 8: of just had the concept, and we're trying to figure out, Okay,
- 9:41Speaker 8: what should it actually look like, what should it feel like?
- 9:43Speaker 8: How it worked? And one of the things we talked about,
- 9:47Speaker 8: or you know, what makes a good AI interaction? You know,
- 9:53Speaker 8: how do we create a good experience? How do you
- 9:55Speaker 8: make sure that it's you know, the that feeling of
- 10:01Speaker 8: seamless ease rather than that feeling of constantly having to
- 10:08Speaker 8: rethink how you're even approaching and talking to a machine. Right,
- 10:11Speaker 8: it should feel really natural. And that's something that we're
- 10:14Speaker 8: even still working on. So it's really fun to see
- 10:16Speaker 8: the way we're taking all of the inputs because we
- 10:21Speaker 8: use Spark, right. I use Spark when I had slow
- 10:23Speaker 8: Internet a few weeks ago, and it helped me troubleshoot that.
- 10:28Speaker 8: And so we're taking those experiences and needing it to
- 10:31Speaker 8: learn and iterate. And that's one of the really neat
- 10:33Speaker 8: things about an AI tool is that you're constantly evolving it.
- 10:37Speaker 8: You're constantly making it better.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I was about to say that it's an evolution. It
- 10:44Speaker 1: seems to me that this is the normal way of
- 10:46Speaker 1: evolving in how we are co working with everything that
- 10:50Speaker 1: we interact with. So it becomes very dynamic in your
- 10:54Speaker 1: day to day how you're not lost anymore, where you
- 10:57Speaker 1: don't have to go where do I open the self
- 10:59Speaker 1: service portal or how do I reach out to fix
- 11:02Speaker 1: and check or and actually instead of just going into
- 11:05Speaker 1: sorch and searching of my issue, instead of waiting in
- 11:08Speaker 1: Q to be supported or being supported based on data
- 11:12Speaker 1: that is actionable right away and that is really irrelevant,
- 11:15Speaker 1: customized for you. This is where I see the power
- 11:19Speaker 1: of sports coming in place in the day to day
- 11:21Speaker 1: interactions and actually understanding Moore not just fix my problem
- 11:25Speaker 1: without me knowing what is that or how I can
- 11:27Speaker 1: avoid it.
- 11:29Speaker 9: To maybe add on the perspective of one of the
- 11:32Speaker 9: employees who's not a technical person, who's going to be
- 11:34Speaker 9: using Spark for me as a admittedly not super technical
- 11:40Speaker 9: person in my day to day role at next ink
- 11:44Speaker 9: right like, I'm head of content, so I basically make
- 11:46Speaker 9: content and work with a team that makes content. I
- 11:48Speaker 9: spend most of my day on Zoom calls or the
- 11:52Speaker 9: most technical software I use is either a project management
- 11:55Speaker 9: tool or Microsoft Word right, Like, I'm not like a
- 11:57Speaker 9: super advanced super user. I am all so one of
- 12:00Speaker 9: those people who if my if something goes wrong with
- 12:03Speaker 9: my device, I'm going to try to work around it
- 12:05Speaker 9: unless I'm in the office and I can see Chris
- 12:08Speaker 9: on our IT team and I can walk over to
- 12:10Speaker 9: her and say, Hey, Chris, what's going on.
- 12:12Speaker 6: If I can't do that, I'm I'm unlikely to submit
- 12:16Speaker 6: a take it unless it's like really preventing me from
- 12:19Speaker 6: getting my job done for me, for AI and an
- 12:23Speaker 6: AI agent. For me to want to use it, it
- 12:26Speaker 6: has to work. If it doesn't work, if I perceive
- 12:29Speaker 6: it to just add more annoyance to my day, I'm
- 12:32Speaker 6: definitely not going to use it. So they put Spark
- 12:35Speaker 6: on our devices here. We were sort of you know,
- 12:37Speaker 6: beta testing, helping them develop the product. And we came
- 12:41Speaker 6: back into the office in Boston after I summer off
- 12:44Speaker 6: while we were moving offices, and I tried to First off,
- 12:48Speaker 6: I tried to connect to the printer. I couldn't connect.
- 12:50Speaker 6: It wasn't working. My documents weren't going to the printer.
- 12:53Speaker 6: I was like oh shoot, Tim. I tried to figure
- 12:55Speaker 6: it out myself. I couldn't really figure it out. And
- 12:57Speaker 6: I was like, oh my god, I can't figure out
- 12:58Speaker 6: I can't connect with the printer. And Chris from I
- 13:00Speaker 6: t she wasn't in the office, so I couldn't go
- 13:02Speaker 6: over to Chris and be like, Chris, I can't use
- 13:04Speaker 6: the printer help.
- 13:05Speaker 3: And Sparks, what do you think I have a miracle work.
- 13:08Speaker 9: On the contrary.
- 13:13Speaker 10: On the contrary, I go to Spark and I'm like, yeah,
- 13:16Speaker 10: on the contrary. I go to Spark and I'm like,
- 13:18Speaker 10: I can't connect to the printer. Help, and it very
- 13:21Speaker 10: quickly was like, let me review your advice. Do do
- 13:24Speaker 10: And it comes back and it's like, hey, it looks
- 13:26Speaker 10: like your z scaler needs to be updated or whatever
- 13:28Speaker 10: you have to be.
- 13:29Speaker 6: And then it informed me well, right, yeah, I was
- 13:32Speaker 6: dealing good on updating some stuff. But uh, it informed
- 13:35Speaker 6: me really not what this is. What I liked about
- 13:37Speaker 6: the interaction was it was like, to connect to the
- 13:39Speaker 6: office printer across next think you have to be connected
- 13:42Speaker 6: to z scaler VPN. If you're not, you're not gonna
- 13:45Speaker 6: be connected to the printer. Why don't you try that
- 13:47Speaker 6: and I tried and lo and behold it works. And
- 13:50Speaker 6: then you know, Spark said, hey, did that work? And
- 13:52Speaker 6: I said, yes, it did, and then it kind of
- 13:54Speaker 6: just like whoop went away. So it was so simple,
- 13:57Speaker 6: and because it worked, I will say I am more
- 14:00Speaker 6: inclined to use it in future. If it hadn't probably
- 14:03Speaker 6: passed my first personal test of it, I might have
- 14:05Speaker 6: been like, Nah, this AI agent is useless. But instead
- 14:09Speaker 6: it actually helped me. And I think what that also
- 14:11Speaker 6: illustrates something we talk about is that's a ticket for
- 14:14Speaker 6: it that's probably just annoying because it's just employee education, right.
- 14:18Speaker 6: It's just obviously you have to be connected to the
- 14:20Speaker 6: VPN to use the hardware, so it's eliminating those tickets
- 14:24Speaker 6: that for them are almost like a burden, a waste
- 14:28Speaker 6: of time because it's you know, an uneducated, untechnical employee
- 14:32Speaker 6: just being kind of like lost in the ecosystem. So
- 14:34Speaker 6: I think it illustrates the simple power of a tool.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Like this.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Clip it clip it lated German the printer she got
- 14:45Speaker 3: attached to the printer in the office. It's incredible, it's
- 14:49Speaker 3: it's a it's a truly miraculous Thank you, Mick and
- 14:52Speaker 3: I'm going to remember that myself and I have. I
- 14:54Speaker 3: can't remember why I used it, but I've used it myself.
- 14:56Speaker 3: It did the dawn thing I wanted it to do.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I think I've not I mean, hopefully listeners can hear it.
- 15:02Speaker 3: In the panelist's response, I don't think there's been an
- 15:05Speaker 3: excitement about a new, brand new product for the entire
- 15:10Speaker 3: six years I've been here. And people are really buzzing
- 15:13Speaker 3: about Spark. I know, a sort of the customers who
- 15:17Speaker 3: have already had it had to go on it already
- 15:19Speaker 3: a buzzing about it. And there's a lot of interest
- 15:22Speaker 3: about this product, very good reason. And we are going
- 15:25Speaker 3: to be going into it in more detail, and we're
- 15:27Speaker 3: going to be talking to the people who who developed
- 15:29Speaker 3: it and if you will, invented it in the coming week.
- 15:33Speaker 3: So keep your keep your ear out for for those
- 15:36Speaker 3: episodes two. And thanks for everybody's contribution. A reminder that
- 15:40Speaker 3: we we you know, we have a really wonderful panel
- 15:44Speaker 3: here and you know hopefully we'll soldier on even without
- 15:48Speaker 3: the anchor of the panel and Tim Flower.
- 15:53Speaker 4: One hit want to hear from one.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Last person today, and that's that's stun to talk a
- 15:58Speaker 3: bit about your upcoming project show. So you have a
- 16:02Speaker 3: trends that you have a new ebook and a webinar
- 16:05Speaker 3: coming out very soon with some customers. It's a really
- 16:09Speaker 3: interesting topic, it's some really interesting insights. Why why don't
- 16:11Speaker 3: you set that up for people and tell them where
- 16:14Speaker 3: they can learn more?
- 16:15Speaker 7: Sure, yeah, when we plug this. So in the next
- 16:17Speaker 7: couple of weeks, you're going to see two projects come out,
- 16:21Speaker 7: both related to the twenty twenty six Trends and Predictions Report.
- 16:24Speaker 7: The first one is an ebook that's encapsulating that information
- 16:28Speaker 7: where we've gone out into the field and spoken to
- 16:31Speaker 7: some customers and some IT leaders to get their thoughts
- 16:34Speaker 7: on what's around the corner and we're well into twenty
- 16:36Speaker 7: twenty six now. And then we also have, in conjunction
- 16:39Speaker 7: with the report, a webinar where we've spoken to two
- 16:42Speaker 7: of our customers that's hosted by our own John Karn's
- 16:46Speaker 7: chief customer officer here at next Think, and I think
- 16:50Speaker 7: that's going to be a really interesting conversation. We have
- 16:52Speaker 7: that slated in the next couple of weeks to go
- 16:54Speaker 7: out the webinar, and without getting too far ahead of it,
- 16:58Speaker 7: you know, we're touching upon how topics that are obviously
- 17:01Speaker 7: relevant AI agentic AI more so like people management and
- 17:06Speaker 7: how to deal with some of this stuff off of
