- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo! How's your day been? Luna: Hey Lucas! It's been good. You know, I was just thinking about our last episode on easy and difficult. I'm finding it easy to remember those ones. Lucas: That's great to hear! Today we've got another adjective pair that's super useful: bright and dark. Luna: Oh, like describing a room or the weather? I can already think of situations where that would help. Lucas: Exactly! So the word for bright is terang. Say it with me: terang. Luna: Terang. Terang. That sounds nice. Lucas: And the opposite, dark, is gelap. Try it: gelap. Luna: Gelap. Gelap. Okay, I've got it. Lucas: Now let's put them in sentences. For example, 'This room is bright' — Bilik ini terang. Luna: Bilik ini terang. So bilik is room, and ini is this. That makes sense. Lucas: Right! Now try: 'Tonight is dark' — Malam ini gelap. Luna: Malam ini gelap. Malam is night. So literally 'night this dark'. Lucas: You've got it. And one more: 'That lamp is bright' — Lampu itu terang. Luna: Lampu itu terang. Lampu is lamp, itu is that. Perfect. Lucas: Let's do a quick practice. I'll say the English, you say the Malay. 'Bright'. Luna: Terang. Lucas: 'Dark'. Luna: Gelap. Lucas: 'This room is bright'. Luna: Bilik ini terang. Lucas: 'Tonight is dark'. Luna: Malam ini gelap. Lucas: Excellent! You're nailing it. Luna: I have to say, this is really useful. I was out last night and the street was so dark — I could have said 'Jalan ini gelap'. Lucas: Exactly! And if you turned on a flashlight, you'd say 'Lampu ini terang'. Luna: Right! So, Lucas, I've been thinking — these lessons are really helping me. And I love that they're ad-free. Lucas: Yeah, that's something we're proud of. Lucas: Then you turn on the light. Now it's bright. Luna: Oh! Now bilik ini terang. Lucas: Perfect. See how natural that is? Let's do another one. You're outside at noon. The sun is bright. Luna: Matahari itu terang. Wait, matahari is sun, right? Lucas: Yes! You're doing great. And at midnight? Luna: Malam ini gelap. Lucas: There you go. So let's review our phrases one more time. Terang. Luna: Terang. Lucas: Gelap. Luna: Gelap. Lucas: Bilik ini terang. Luna: Bilik ini terang. Lucas: Malam ini gelap. Luna: Malam ini gelap. Lucas: Lampu itu terang. Luna: Lampu itu terang. Lucas: Fantastic. You've got it down. Luna: Thanks Lucas! I feel so much more confident now. Can't wait to use these in real life. Lucas: And that's a wrap for today's episode. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Malay with Fexingo.
