- 0:12Speaker 2: Showbiz for one one dot com. Great stories there every
- 0:16Speaker 2: day Showbiz for one one dot com. Roger Friedman, how
- 0:20Speaker 2: you doing, I'm great, good morning.
- 0:23Speaker 3: How are you?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Mark?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Good?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Tell us about these Rolling Stones. They're in New York
- 0:27Speaker 2: all week now. Mick Jagger goes to the Ballet Spring Gala.
- 0:31Speaker 2: That's not the Mick Jagger we know and love.
- 0:33Speaker 1: What's God?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Apparently Mick Jagger and Jimmy Fallon put on a little
- 0:39Speaker 3: show last night at the Ballet Oh to raise money.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so they were.
- 0:46Speaker 3: They were there, And this was right after they had
- 0:49Speaker 3: been on the Jimmy Fallons Tonight Show night before last,
- 0:55Speaker 3: where Mick was announcing the new Rolling Stones album. It's
- 0:59Speaker 3: the sixties second year of the Rolling Stones, Mark sixty second,
- 1:03Speaker 3: both year. It's the sixty second year of the Rolling Stones.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Can you believe it?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Wow? Well, you know, in the Good Old they go
- 1:11Speaker 2: on the Ed Sullivan Show, sixty million people see him.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Now they go on the Jimmy Fallon Show, six hundred
- 1:16Speaker 2: thousand people see him. It's they're not the same anymore.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Well, whatever they did did work, because they have two
- 1:25Speaker 3: singles in the iTunes Top one top ten today, so
- 1:31Speaker 3: that's pretty good.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And I like their new song.
- 1:34Speaker 3: They've a couple of new singles out, and they'll have
- 1:36Speaker 3: a new album out July tenth, and will it be
- 1:40Speaker 3: their last album maybe or maybe not.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You never know.
- 1:45Speaker 3: They're not a touring group anymore because Keith Richards has
- 1:49Speaker 3: arthritis and they're not going to go from town to town,
- 1:53Speaker 3: but they're gonna still keep making records, and the records sound,
- 1:57Speaker 3: you know, they sound pretty good, better than most.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Of the stuff.
- 2:00Speaker 3: They're most better than most of the things we're hearing
- 2:02Speaker 3: from contemporary ares.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So they sound good, but they're mixing the levels different,
- 2:07Speaker 2: so the kind of covering up Jagger's voice a little, and.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Well everyone's covering up everyone's voiceless these days. But but
- 2:15Speaker 3: the main thing is I think it's pretty cool that
- 2:18Speaker 3: the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Star all have
- 2:22Speaker 3: albums out are coming out in the next month or so.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Ringo Star Ringo has a great album out called Long
- 2:30Speaker 3: Long Road, produced by t Bone Burnette. It's a lonthly
- 2:33Speaker 3: album by who Done TV Barnette. You know, yeah, he's
- 2:38Speaker 3: still alive. Barnett's a young guy. You're mixing up with
- 2:43Speaker 3: somebody else. Well, who's the other guy. I'm thinking of
- 2:45Speaker 3: tea some T Bone something.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Bone steak.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I don't know an old record years ago.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no t Bone Burnette is you know, I
- 2:55Speaker 3: don't know sixty probably I don't know how old he was.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Anyway, you know he's married to the to Cali Corey,
- 3:03Speaker 3: who wrote.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Lewie's Well that's his problem anyway.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Steve Bumbernet has done two albums now, a new one
- 3:11Speaker 3: with Ringo and one a couple of years ago called
- 3:13Speaker 3: look Up. They're really good albums. They're the best work
- 3:16Speaker 3: Ringo's done in about forty years so and Ringos I
- 3:21Speaker 3: think he's eighty five or eighty six. Paul McCarty's turning
- 3:25Speaker 3: eighty four, The Rolling Stones h's add up to one
- 3:28Speaker 3: thousand and and they're all putting out music and it's
- 3:33Speaker 3: all really good.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So I give have done a lot of credit.
- 3:35Speaker 3: You know, they keep going and this is their life
- 3:39Speaker 3: that they don't want to stop.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And they have plenty of fans.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I mean, if they're doing live shows, they they're drawing
- 3:46Speaker 3: like crazy.
- 3:48Speaker 2: But right here on the sixth floor of iHeart, on
- 3:51Speaker 2: this very floor, you have all the top music stations
- 3:53Speaker 2: in the world. You got Z one hundred, yes, Light FM,
- 3:58Speaker 2: you got Katie. Everything is up here. You can't get
- 4:02Speaker 2: They're not going to play a Rolling Stone single or
- 4:05Speaker 2: a Ringo Star single anymore.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Well I think you one or four point three?
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah once actually, yeah, they'll play it and then the
- 4:14Speaker 3: light stations will play it.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Definitely, I would. Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 3: In fact, there's a new today. There's a Ringo and
- 4:21Speaker 3: Paul have a single out together called Home to Us.
- 4:24Speaker 3: That's really dice, So I hope, I hope it gets played. Look,
- 4:28Speaker 3: everything can't be justin bieber Y. Yeah, you know, I'm moderated.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I'm the other day. There's a podcast coming out soon
- 4:36Speaker 3: and I'll let you know when it comes out. It's
- 4:38Speaker 3: the history of Atlantic Records and h I moderated a
- 4:42Speaker 3: panel the other night for a podcast.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Uh, and we.
- 4:46Speaker 3: We talked about the you know, the real music from
- 4:48Speaker 3: the real the real days of Aretha and Ray Charles
- 4:52Speaker 3: and that kind of thing, and uh and even Eric
- 4:55Speaker 3: clapped and you know, Layla and that kind of stuff.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Allman Brothers and things are not what they used to be.
- 5:02Speaker 2: So are you saying the Rolling Stones they'll never tour again,
- 5:05Speaker 2: They'll never be another Rolling Stones concert.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Well, I think there'll be concerts. I think there might be.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I think they might do.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Like you know, the new trend is like Harry Styles
- 5:15Speaker 3: is going to do thirty shows at Madison Square Garden
- 5:17Speaker 3: this fall. So the new trend is to go to
- 5:21Speaker 3: one place and make people come there.
- 5:23Speaker 1: But they don't.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Some of the artists don't want to get up and
- 5:26Speaker 3: go from town to town anymore, which is going to
- 5:29Speaker 3: be hard for the smaller cities that you know, dependent
- 5:33Speaker 3: on these shows. But here in New York, we're very lucky.
- 5:37Speaker 3: We have Madison Square Garden. Everybody wants to play there.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, they found recently because you're right,
- 5:43Speaker 2: they don't want to go through the airports, the you know,
- 5:46Speaker 2: the hotels for the tour.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It's rough.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So they found that if you play in New York,
- 5:51Speaker 2: your fans will actually fly here to see the concert.
- 5:53Speaker 2: It's happening more and more they fly in for a concert.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Of course, let them do it. Definitely, they'll definitely comes
- 5:59Speaker 2: to New York. I mean, if it were like you know, Sheboygan.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It was different. But you know who wouldn't come to
- 6:06Speaker 1: New York for anything?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, Hey, so I tell us about that. The Michael
- 6:10Speaker 2: Jackson movie Devilwar's product. You. How are they doing at
- 6:12Speaker 2: the box office.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Oh, they're booming. They're both booming. Michael Jackson just crossed
- 6:19Speaker 3: two hundred million dollars. They're really really doing well. I
- 6:26Speaker 3: don't think there'll be a sequel to the Michael Jackson movie.
- 6:29Speaker 3: A lot of people want it, but I don't think so.
- 6:31Speaker 3: As I said before, it would be called law and
- 6:33Speaker 3: Order Michael Jackson. But the pleasant movie is fun because
- 6:39Speaker 3: of the music and the dancing and the costumes, and
- 6:43Speaker 3: it's it's I call it fact free. But it doesn't
- 6:46Speaker 3: seem to matter to anybody. They just they just like
- 6:49Speaker 3: sitting down and hearing the music. And the result is
- 6:52Speaker 3: that Michael Jackson has I think twelve singles on the
- 6:55Speaker 3: iTunes Top one hundred and twelve albums on the album Heart.
- 7:00Speaker 3: So it's done a huge amount of business for the
- 7:03Speaker 3: for the estate.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And a Broadway. How's Broadway doing.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Broadway is doing fine. The Tony nominations came out this week.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Everyone's excited about them. There are two really good comedies
- 7:17Speaker 3: that I recommend to people. You've got to see a
- 7:19Speaker 3: play called The Ballistters at Manhattan Theater Club and another
- 7:24Speaker 3: one called Becky Shaw. They're both very, very funny plays
- 7:29Speaker 3: and worth the time.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So I looked at the list of the top the
- 7:35Speaker 2: musicals for the Best Musical the Tony Awards. Normally, they're
- 7:39Speaker 2: all big names you can hear about all the din't
- 7:41Speaker 2: even recognize most of the names on that list.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Now because the Tony Awards don't like to give nominations
- 7:47Speaker 3: to people from Broadway from Hollywood.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So all the people who all the people who are.
- 7:52Speaker 3: On Broadway from Hollywood have been mostly snubbed by the
- 7:55Speaker 3: Tony Awards this year.
- 7:56Speaker 1: This is like a typical This is traditional.
- 7:59Speaker 3: That Hollywood stars come to town think they're going to
- 8:02Speaker 3: get Tony nominations and they get nothing. They do get
- 8:06Speaker 3: big box office and people want to see them.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But the Tony.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Awards are a little snobby and they like to give
- 8:12Speaker 3: their awards just to their own people, you know what
- 8:15Speaker 3: I mean.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little annoying, but I understand. I can see.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I can see both points. Don't on that one both.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Yeah, totally. I mean they don't want It's like carpetbagging.
- 8:23Speaker 3: They don't want people coming into town and taking over.
- 8:26Speaker 3: So they're very provincial in that way, which is sort
- 8:29Speaker 3: of amusing.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But I think they.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Must tell Hollywood stars in advance before they come to Broadway.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You're not going to get a Tony Awards, so don't
- 8:37Speaker 1: worry about it.
