- 0:09What's going on, everybody? All right, It is Wednesday,
- 0:13Wednesday's Q&A day. Sorry about the Monday thing.
- 0:16You guys know, I normally do my typical Monday to all of you or
- 0:21ask you a question and then I share the responses, but I was
- 0:24gone all weekend. I got home late Saturday night,
- 0:28was in Los Angeles, but I hope that you enjoyed that episode.
- 0:33I had such a great weekend. Despite the loss for Lucy's
- 0:36team. I got to surround myself with
- 0:39some really good hobby friends, my buddy Dave and his wife Barb
- 0:44Fantastic people. They don't come any better than
- 0:48those two and I got to spend a couple of days with Mr. Mike
- 0:53Petty and we had so much fun. That guy is fun on steroids.
- 0:59If you had, if you could inject fun, first of all, I would do it
- 1:05and secondly, it would be Mike Petty.
- 1:08It would be Mike Petty. Mike Petty is fun injected
- 1:11directly into my bones. So that was a great time.
- 1:16I hope you enjoyed that video Monday.
- 1:18If you haven't seen Monday's video, you've got to go back and
- 1:20check that out. Such a fun one.
- 1:23All right, this week we have Q&A.
- 1:25We have 5 great questions. We have so much going on.
- 1:29Later in the week, I'm going to share my pickups from November.
- 1:34I've been waiting because I had a card at PSA Authentication and
- 1:38you know what that means? That means that if you buy a
- 1:42card that gets authenticated, it's a fairly big card.
- 1:45So I got one fairly big card. Couple other smaller things last
- 1:48month. Couple of them I've already
- 1:50teased on the channel a little bit.
- 1:52So later in the week, look forward to that.
- 1:55It might even be tomorrow, I don't know, Either Thursday,
- 1:58Friday or Saturday, One of those two.
- 1:59I've got 2 videos coming up still this week.
- 2:02Going to be a couple of videos I think you'll like a lot, but
- 2:06remember if you have a question for an upcoming episode down
- 2:09below in the comments just type out your question.
- 2:11Always looking for new questions.
- 2:13I've got 5 great ones this week and here's the first one.
- 2:19Given the recent news about Snipe, do you feel it's still OK
- 2:23to do business with Probstein? Should collectors still consign
- 2:28with him? What about bidding on items he
- 2:31has consigned on eBay? I always enjoy hearing your
- 2:35opinions on these kind of hobby news topics.
- 2:40Man I love direct questions. This is a very direct question.
- 2:47First off, let me just say this on Saturday, well, let me even
- 2:52back up from that. On Friday, I was in the airport,
- 2:55literally sitting in the airport and I recorded my weekly podcast
- 3:01episode with my buddy Mike Junk Wax Hero for our podcast and
- 3:07there was some noise and things going on around us.
- 3:10But this topic came up in that episode.
- 3:14I was not expecting this to come up and to be honest with you,
- 3:18Well, I'll get to that in a second.
- 3:20Anyway, I shared some of my initial thoughts on this exact
- 3:24topic. Now, remember the podcast always
- 3:28drops on Saturday mornings and Thursday morning.
- 3:31So tomorrow the video episode of that will post.
- 3:36So you can kind of hear a little bit more of my thoughts and Mike
- 3:39and I kind of talk about this and is that OK?
- 3:41Is it not OK? What's right, what's wrong?
- 3:44Is there a morality to it? I definitely shared some
- 3:47thoughts and, and I was, I was, you know, I had a lot going on.
- 3:52I was my, my flight was about to board and, and I had a lot of
- 3:55distractions. No excuses.
- 3:57But when I got done with that episode, I said, I think I'm
- 4:02going to get cancelled over this one.
- 4:04And the, and it wasn't really like there was something that I
- 4:07said where I'm like, I'm going to get cancelled because I said
- 4:10anything overly egregious, but there were a couple of things
- 4:15that I said in the discussion that I, I kind of had a little
- 4:19bit of a stomach ache about. So I want to talk about my
- 4:22response here. And then I want to talk about
- 4:25what I said, which again, will air on YouTube tomorrow.
- 4:29And some things that I kind of felt like was that that's not
- 4:32really the right wording anyway. So what do I think I'm One of
- 4:39the things I described in that episode was I am kind of
- 4:43forgiving to a fault. And in a lot of ways, I think
- 4:46I'm a bit naive. I can be hard on people at
- 4:51times. I can be hard on society at
- 4:53times. But one of the things that being
- 4:56a teacher that has been a teacher, this is I'm in my 23rd
- 5:01year as a high school teacher that I've gotten to at this
- 5:05point is I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt.
- 5:11I tend to say, until you prove to me that you're bad, I'm going
- 5:17to assume that you're good. Which is also interesting
- 5:20because in a lot of cases, I I tend to be a glass is half empty
- 5:25type of person. And one of the things I was
- 5:28describing when I answered this to Mike when we were having this
- 5:31discussion is I, I kind of want to know for sure that somebody
- 5:38is guilty of something before I want to lock them.
- 5:42U And at this point and the allegations against Rick
- 5:48Probstein, as far as I know, are allegations.
- 5:51Now, I will also admit that I am not, I have not, I don't watch a
- 5:57ton of hobby news videos. And then after a lot of the
- 6:01drama that has happened over the last month with shill bidding
- 6:04with the doctor Beckett discussions and the P Ryan
- 6:07discussions, I kind of was like at my limit with negativity.
- 6:12So for the last couple of weeks, I have paid less attention to
- 6:16that stuff as normal. So it's very possible that there
- 6:20are facts out there that I don't know are facts and I'm thinking
- 6:25that they are allegations. But I also believe that, you
- 6:31know, we should assume that somebody is innocent until
- 6:36they're proven guilty. That said, if there are facts
- 6:40about the Probstein situation that are actual facts, then then
- 6:45absolutely that would adjust it. So I am a little bit out of the
- 6:52loop on this one as I was on Friday when I talked about it.
- 6:57That said, I would say and one of the things I said in that
- 7:02topic and in that conversation when I talked about this was
- 7:06when there is a fairly serious allegation.
- 7:09I think this first step is kind of distance yourself from the
- 7:12situation. So if you know, you find out
- 7:17that your next door neighbor is has been accused of Grand Theft,
- 7:23probably not a good night to go over and invite him over for a
- 7:27beer. It's probably a night that you
- 7:29just say, I'm not going to invite him over for a beer for a
- 7:32little while until I figure out what the heck's going on.
- 7:34So step one, I think is you, you do you kind of distance yourself
- 7:39from a situation. The allegations against
- 7:43Probstein, as far as I know, are that number 1.
- 7:48He, you know, he, he started his own auction site.
- 7:51It crashed. Apparently there was some access
- 7:56to a lot of personal financial information.
- 8:01I I think that's a fact. That's bad.
- 8:05That's not good that that has happened which appears to have
- 8:10happened. I haven't seen any for sure 100%
- 8:14facts that there is data out there.
- 8:16I know there was some talk about on on Christmas Day, there was
- 8:20going to be some data was going to be released or something by
- 8:24somebody who had the data. Again, I don't know a ton about
- 8:27it. And then I, I also think though,
- 8:31that, you know, you distance yourself and then once you know
- 8:35that something is, is, has happened, then then at that
- 8:39point you, you sever ties it depending on what obviously what
- 8:43it is. If my understanding is part of
- 8:47the data and part of the investigation that hackers or
- 8:51computer people have been able to determine is that there were
- 8:55allegedly some accounts that were set up that we're doing
- 8:58tons and tons of bids. And those tons and tons of bids
- 9:03were shell bidding. I, I believe in theory, I, I,
- 9:07again, I don't know for sure if this happened, but in theory
- 9:10there were some fake accounts that were shell bidding items up
- 9:13and those accounts had ties to Probstein himself.
- 9:19Now, again, I don't know if that's a fact.
- 9:24If that's a fact, then I will never do business with Probstein
- 9:30again. If that's a fact, I don't know
- 9:32that to be a fact. I, my, I am currently under the
- 9:35impression that that is an allegation.
- 9:41If it's an allegation, then I think you distance yourself from
- 9:44someone. Now, when I talked about this
- 9:48topic, one of the things that in retrospect I look back on that I
- 9:51said I I kind of jokingly said at the end of the discussion,
- 9:56again, you'll see it tomorrow. You can listen to it right now
- 9:59on the Sports Card Clubhouse Podcast Network, the Surface
- 10:03issues episode that posted on Saturday.
- 10:06At the end of it, I kind of jokingly said, well, I mean, if
- 10:09it's a really rare card or a card that doesn't come up very
- 10:12often, then maybe I would bid. That probably wasn't the most
- 10:18appropriate joke given the allegations.
- 10:22So I do, I do apologize for that joke.
- 10:28But that said, would I right now?
- 10:31Would I right now? Because in the in the episode we
- 10:36end up talking about Bill Cosby and whether we'd associate with
- 10:39Bill Cosby and Roger Clemens. Things got a little bit out of
- 10:43hand. It was a it was an entertaining
- 10:46conversation, though. Again, check it out tomorrow
- 10:48sports car clubhouse YouTube channel and you'll see me
- 10:51sitting in the airport. I think right now I probably I
- 10:58probably wouldn't bid on a Probstein item on eBay.
- 11:03Does that mean that it's wrong to do it?
- 11:09I think because there we're talking about allegations.
- 11:12I don't think it's I don't think it's wrong.
- 11:14I think it's very much a Gray area.
- 11:16And if, if, if these weren't allegations and these are known
- 11:22to be facts, then I wouldn't do it.
- 11:26I I wouldn't like I just said I wouldn't go along with the
- 11:30Probstein business. But if there, if there
- 11:36allegations, again, I try to tend to distance myself.
- 11:40So is it wrong to bid on an eBay item right now?
- 11:45I can't tell other people what to do, but given what I know,
- 11:50which is fairly limited to be honest, I I likely wouldn't bid
- 11:56on a probe seat item. Does that mean if you decide to
- 12:00bid on a probe seat item that you did something wrong?
- 12:04I wouldn't go necessarily that far either.
- 12:08I think that there is a huge in this country, we have a
- 12:12fundamental belief whether you're a prosecuting attorney,
- 12:17whether you're a defense attorney, whether you're a
- 12:20citizen, whether you're on trial, whether you are in a
- 12:24jury, whether you are just somebody reading the newspaper
- 12:27about what's going on. I think that we all agree that a
- 12:33person is innocent until proven guilty.
- 12:36And once they are proven guilty, then we can make our full
- 12:41decisions on how we want to interact with that person or
- 12:45with that business. How we decide to do it before
- 12:49they're proven to be guilty is kind of up to each individual.
- 12:54I'm not going to tell somebody else what they should or
- 12:58shouldn't do. I think I lean towards not
- 13:02bidding on Probes Teen items. I certainly at this point,
- 13:05personally, I wouldn't be submitting things to Probes Teen
- 13:10for consignment. I wouldn't do that.
- 13:13I likely I, I don't see myself bidding because I see that as
- 13:17I'm separate, I'm kind of removing myself.
- 13:20But I don't think it's wrong at this point.
- 13:22If it comes out that Probstein has a whole shield bidding thing
- 13:26and these allegations are are now not just charges, but
- 13:30they're, you know, proven in the court of law that at that point,
- 13:34then I would say it's it. It's not.
- 13:38We shouldn't be doing business with people who are doing
- 13:41illegal activities. But, and again, some of you are
- 13:46throwing Rotten Tomatoes at the screen right now going it is
- 13:49proven. OK, If it's proven, which I
- 13:51don't know that to be the case, then I definitely wouldn't be
- 13:56doing anything with Probstein. My joke about, well, if it's a
- 14:01rare item probably didn't come across good.
- 14:04And afterwards, I I texted a bunch of my friends.
- 14:07I said, I think I'm going to get cancelled from this episode.
- 14:10And, and a lot of the part that was the pit in my stomach was I
- 14:13was saying, Oh yeah, you know, if I if it was a rare item, I'd
- 14:17still bid on it that that in retrospect wasn't wasn't cool.
- 14:23So my apologies. That said, I think everyone has
- 14:27to decide for themselves how to interact with a person with a
- 14:31business when there are allegations around them.
- 14:35But then once they're facts, I think that's a big change in, in
- 14:41how we should all interact with somebody, especially in a
- 14:46business sense. So I don't know if that's a good
- 14:49answer. I don't know if that's a bad
- 14:50answer. That's just kind of where I am.
- 14:52That's kind of who I am. But again, I'm going to be the
- 14:54first person to say I tend to kind of probably because of my,
- 15:01my profession, I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt
- 15:05when it comes to doing an allegation of a situation versus
- 15:12an actual fact of what has happened.
- 15:15So that's where I'm at. Could I, am I right?
- 15:20I don't know, am I wrong? I don't know.
- 15:22Should you guys ever listen to me?
- 15:23I don't know. I just kind of tell you what I
- 15:26think and then I just move along.
- 15:28So I hope that that's helpful. Do what your heart tells you.
- 15:32What What is your gut say? That's ultimately what you
- 15:35should do, but at this point I don't see myself doing business
- 15:41with Probstein moving forward. Question.
- 15:46I have a stack of cards I've been wanting to send to SGC.
- 15:50Not APSA fan, but with all the changes Collectors Inc has made
- 15:55to SGC, longer wait times, tougher grades, etcetera, I'm
- 16:00not sure if I should still send to them.
- 16:02I've heard their customer service is not good anymore
- 16:05either. Last month they graded less than
- 16:08half the cards of the previous month.
- 16:11What is your opinion? This is a question that we could
- 16:17get every week and every week. I think your opinion, my
- 16:21opinion, my answer, your answer would probably change on this.
- 16:25Every time you have a decision on whether or not you want to
- 16:30grade cards, and I think that's the first place you have to
- 16:32start, is well, look in the mirror.
- 16:33Why am I grading these cards? Am I grading these cards to
- 16:37protect them? Am I grading them to
- 16:38authenticate them? Am I sending them in because I
- 16:42want them actually graded and and decided what the quality of
- 16:47the card is? Am I doing it to because I think
- 16:50it's going to add value? What is the reason?
- 16:54It sounds to me like what you are describing in this situation
- 16:58is you want to send cards in to a grading company to get graded
- 17:05and it sounds to me like you don't like PSA so you're trying
- 17:09to figure out if it's still a good idea to send them to SGCI.
- 17:14Can't answer that for each individual person.
- 17:16Whenever I get just like with the last question, whatever I
- 17:19try to do is I try to give my personal opinion on what I would
- 17:24do when my daughter says, hey dad, you know, do you think I
- 17:28should get a job? I'm like, well, you know, when I
- 17:30was your age, I had a job. So if I was you, I guess I would
- 17:34get a job because that's what I did.
- 17:36So what would I do if I were any situation where I, I was
- 17:41probably going to send them to STC.
- 17:43But recently the turn around times has gone down.
- 17:47The grades have been a little bit harsh or inconsistent.
- 17:51Now I don't want to send to PSAI would say, well, what are my
- 17:56options now me personally, I sent cards to SGC to get graded
- 18:03about two months ago, month and a half ago, two months ago.
- 18:07So I I was faced with this exact situation and I said I'm sending
- 18:12them in to SGCI would do that again if I had some cards right
- 18:18now that I wanted to send in for grading.
- 18:22And, and it sounds like my situation is similar to your
- 18:25situation. What would I do?
- 18:28I would continue to send them to SGC.
- 18:31And I know that some people are talking about, oh, the grading
- 18:33numbers from SGC keep going down.
- 18:37Well, if the restaurant that you like in town, right, you hear
- 18:43that they're thinking about closing up shop because they're
- 18:46not getting much business anymore.
- 18:47You're, you heard that they're on brink, on the brink of
- 18:51bankruptcy. Oh my gosh, they might go
- 18:53bankrupt. They're struggling.
- 18:55They might have to close the doors and lay off their staff,
- 18:58which, well, I'm not going to eat there then.
- 19:02No, that's when you should eat there.
- 19:05You want to give business to businesses that you like when
- 19:10the business needs your business the most.
- 19:14And in my opinion, we need to show the parent company that
- 19:20owns SGC that right now there is still a demand for SGC, There is
- 19:29still a demand for that brand. Because if we all say, well, I'm
- 19:33not going to send them in because, you know, they might be
- 19:35going out of business soon, that's going to put them out of
- 19:39business. That's going to make the
- 19:42decision for us. So I just sent stuff to SGCA
- 19:49couple months ago. So sounds like we're similar in
- 19:53our opinions on things and the reasons for grading on things.
- 19:58So I would do what I did which is submit cards to SGC for
- 20:03grading. Do you think sports card
- 20:07collecting is a dying hobby? I only asked this because of the
- 20:11money being made in Pokémon compared to all demographics of
- 20:16sports card collecting, the number of collectors who
- 20:19seemingly overwhelm and saturate the card shows are Pokémon
- 20:23collectors. Oh, and supposedly for PSA
- 20:27Pokémon card submissions are their bread and butter for
- 20:31grading. Do you believe this is true?
- 20:34Sports card collecting is a dying breed or is Pokémon just
- 20:39on a current tear in the ethos? Can't wait for your opinion.
- 20:43I'm trying to stay positive but give it to me straight man.
- 20:49I hear you. I hear you.
- 20:51And I know a lot of people are talking about sports cards are a
- 20:55dying hobby. And you know, once twice a month
- 20:59we see my buddy Dustin over sports cart dad or Neo or one of
- 21:05these guys do a video on how the hobby is dying or how the hobby
- 21:08is booming. And we don't know what to think.
- 21:12I want to just let's look at it this way.
- 21:16Let's say you're a member of a Country Club.
- 21:19OK, so let's all, you know, play the magical music of thought.
- 21:23And we're thinking and, and, and we we go, all right, we're a
- 21:28member of a Country Club. And let's just say that all of a
- 21:32sudden you notice that the tennis courts are packed.
- 21:37They are packed. There's a line around the
- 21:40corner. The parking lot at the Country
- 21:42Club is soon suddenly very full. And there are people hanging out
- 21:47over by the tennis courts all the time.
- 21:49There's barbecues going. There's tents up and people are
- 21:53hanging out waiting in line to play tennis.
- 21:59Would you think that the golf course was dead?
- 22:04Does that mean because the tennis courts are crowded, does
- 22:08that mean that the golf course is dying, that the golfers are
- 22:14dying? Well, the tee sheets are the
- 22:17same. There's the same number of tee
- 22:19times on Saturday and Sunday that there's always been.
- 22:22In fact, you can make the argument that there are more tee
- 22:26times right now on the golf course.
- 22:30But just because the tennis courts are packed and the the
- 22:34parking lot is packed for all the people wanting to play
- 22:38tennis, that doesn't mean golf is dying.
- 22:42They are similar, but they're different.
- 22:46They're not the same and the the amount of people that are
- 22:51interested in tennis is different than the amount of
- 22:57people who are interested in golf.
- 23:01What am I talking about? I don't know.
- 23:05What I'm talking about is I see Pokémon as tennis and I see
- 23:09sports cards as golf. And I think there's been a huge
- 23:13rise in TCG and game cards and non sport cards over the last
- 23:22two 3-4 years. It's surging.
- 23:27That doesn't mean sports cards are dying.
- 23:29I would say that when you are, I mean, I was at the national last
- 23:36year and the the line was like a half a mile long.
- 23:42That doesn't look like that doesn't look like a hobby that's
- 23:45dying. I mean, when I was at the
- 23:48National two years ago and I was at the National last year, the
- 23:53attendance seemed way higher. It seemed way more packed in
- 23:592025 than in 2024. The the number of YouTube
- 24:05channels has exploded. The number of people that seem
- 24:10to be in the hobby is up. Yes, Pokémon is up.
- 24:15Yes, there are Pokémon dealers at shows, There are Pokémon
- 24:20collectors at shows. But I don't think that means
- 24:23it's sports cards are going away.
- 24:26You know, just because there's a sudden rush on Nathan's hot dogs
- 24:33at the at the the meat section of the grocery store doesn't
- 24:38mean people don't like hamburgers anymore, which just
- 24:42means they're really into hot dogs right now.
- 24:45I think that Pokémon is surging and I think that Pokémon is
- 24:53worldwide, and I think that Pokémon is from young kids to
- 25:00old people. And I think right now it's doing
- 25:04really well, but I don't have any opinions on sports cards
- 25:12doing worse than they did a year ago or the year before.
- 25:18Just my take. Q&A question, do you think that
- 25:22SGC and PSA should stay away from grading gaming cards like
- 25:28Pokémon and Magic the Gathering? I feel as a sports card
- 25:32collector that it takes away from the turn around times to
- 25:35get your cards graded. I think it would help out the
- 25:40turn around times a lot. Just my thought on the situation
- 25:44of grading sports cards. Have you ever been to McDonald's
- 25:49and been in the drive through? And Greg, are are you talking
- 25:55about the McDonald's drive through right now?
- 25:58I am, hear me out. Have you ever been in the
- 26:01McDonald's drive through and it's the the purse, the car in
- 26:05front of you, you're waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting
- 26:09and waiting. You're like, what in the heck is
- 26:11taking so long? And then finally you see the
- 26:16window open and then hand out 1234 Mcflurries.
- 26:26You ever had that happen? I've had that happen.
- 26:29And you go, oh, that's what took so long.
- 26:32There's one Mcflurry machine. They wanted 4 Mcflurries and
- 26:37each one takes a few minutes to make it.
- 26:41So it took forever. Dang it, that person in front of
- 26:46me, they took forever because they ordered Mcflurries.
- 26:52They should get rid of Mcflurries.
- 26:54No, I don't think they should get rid of Mcflurries just
- 26:56because they took a while to prepare it.
- 27:01I think that businesses should do what's best for the business.
- 27:07Now. Does me, Does for me.
- 27:10Is it a little bit annoying that there are times that my turn
- 27:14around time has taken longer because of all of the Pokémon
- 27:18collectors getting their cards graded?
- 27:20Of course that's annoying. Of course it's annoying, just
- 27:24like it's annoying when I have to wait at the window extra long
- 27:27because the person in front of me just ordered 4 Mcflurries.
- 27:30That's annoying. But that doesn't mean that
- 27:33McDonald's should get rid of the Mcflurry.
- 27:35My goodness, Mcflurries are fantastic.
- 27:38They should not get rid of them just because they take a while.
- 27:43But there are times that it's a little bit of an annoyance for
- 27:46us in our situation because we need to get going.
- 27:49We're in a hurry. I think of it that way.
- 27:55PSA gets to do what's best for PSA, and if grading game cards
- 28:01and Pokémon and Magic the Gathering cards is what's good
- 28:05for PSA, they get to do that. But if I then say because you do
- 28:13that it takes too long, the turn around time is too long, that
- 28:19it's no longer worth it to me, then I get to decide to go
- 28:23somewhere else. If I am tired of going to
- 28:26McDonald's and waiting for the Mcflurries to be made and handed
- 28:32out, I can go to Wendy's next time.
- 28:37I can go to Burger King next time.
- 28:40I can go to In and Out next time.
- 28:43But I chose to go to McDonald's and the deal with McDonald's is
- 28:48sometimes there's that Mcflurry order in front of you and when
- 28:52you go to PSA, it's taking longer right now, but we get to
- 28:56decide whether or not it's worth it.
- 28:59So that's part of the equation that you get to make on whether
- 29:04or not you want to go to PSAI. Totally understand if you feel
- 29:09that the turn around time is so long, it's not worth it anymore.
- 29:13I feel that way. I have a lot of cards that I
- 29:16would have gotten slabbed at PSA because I have some cards that
- 29:21are autographs that I would like to get authenticated and
- 29:23slabbed. But I'm like, I don't want my
- 29:25cards to be gone for three or four or five months.
- 29:28I don't want to deal with it. So I don't order it.
- 29:31Just like I wanted to make that late night French fry run and I
- 29:37said no, it's not worth it because the last four times I
- 29:40got stuck behind the Mcflurry order.
- 29:43So I understand the frustration, I share the frustration, but we
- 29:50get to decide how we want to handle it.
- 29:53I don't blame PSA for grading the Pokémon cards because
- 29:57they're making a killing off of it, but it is annoying for me
- 30:01and I get to decide whether or not it's worth it or not.
- 30:06This one says I love question and answer day.
- 30:09Thanks for your opinions, Greg. Here's a new question for next
- 30:13week. I know Beckett magazine used to
- 30:15have a generic graded card price guide, not sure if they still
- 30:19do. Do you think it would be a good
- 30:22idea to put together a graded card price guide based on what
- 30:25the slab the card is in? In other words, what is the same
- 30:30card worth in a BGS versus BBGPSASGC TAG, CGC, or SGC slab?
- 30:38Sometimes it's hard to navigate what a card is worth based on
- 30:42the slab. It is also hard to know how much
- 30:46a cart is worth based on the newer or older slab from that
- 30:50company. It would be nice to have a guide
- 30:52for these scenarios. Your thoughts?
- 30:57So I'm the wrong guy to ask? I'm the wrong guy to ask?
- 31:02I am. I am a person who strongly.
- 31:07I even kind of enjoy the process of figuring out what I think a
- 31:11cart is worth. There are so many
- 31:14characteristics to cards. Especially.
- 31:18It's one of the things I like about vintage cards.
- 31:20Sometimes they're centered, sometimes they're not.
- 31:22Sometimes they have rounded cord, honest corners, Mr. Petty.
- 31:25Sometimes they have wax on the back.
- 31:28Sometimes they have a wrinkle. Sometimes they have print
- 31:30defects. Sometimes they have surface
- 31:32issues. Surface issues.
- 31:34See what I did there tomorrow. Surface issues, drops on the
- 31:37Sports Card Clubhouse channel, there are a lot of issues that
- 31:41could come up with a card and especially a vintage card.
- 31:46Part of the charm, part of what I love.
- 31:48And no two cards are the same. And so for me, A7 in APSA versus
- 31:55ABVG versus an SGC versus ACGC versus ATAG, whatever it is, it
- 32:03doesn't really have. That's not how I comp.
- 32:09That's not how I comp cards. I love card ladder promo code
- 32:14midlife, $20 off your first year, truly midlife promo code
- 32:20or a month free. I love researching it.
- 32:23And when I go to card ladder, what I'll do is I'll type in the
- 32:26card, I'll type in the company that it is slabbed by and I type
- 32:32in the grade. That's a starting point.
- 32:36That's just a starting point. So then what I do is I go, OK,
- 32:39it's APSA 7, the one I'm looking at the case.
- 32:41Let's see what PSA sevens go for.
- 32:43Let's look at them. Let's look at the centering of
- 32:46them. Let's look at the corners on
- 32:47them. Let's look at the the picture.
- 32:49And really is this one better than that one?
- 32:52OK, well, this one seems to be a really strong seven that I'm
- 32:56looking at and they're all weak sevens over here.
- 32:59Let's look at what some of the eights go for that.
- 33:02What is a weaker 8? What is a really strong six?
- 33:05And all of that goes into this equation of this mess, this Gray
- 33:09haired mess right here, this melon of madness.
- 33:13And then I go, I kind of think it's worth this.
- 33:17It's just a data point so I can I can look up SGC sevens.
- 33:25I go to card ladder, type in SGC 7 of that card and it'll just
- 33:30pull up SGC sevens, and then APSA 7 will pull up just PSA
- 33:33sevens, BBG, and just BVGTAGCGC. And I can pull them up just like
- 33:40exactly like you're describing, but it doesn't give me a value
- 33:44and quite frankly I don't want it to give me a value.
- 33:48I don't believe that the value of the card is directly tied to
- 33:55the grade. I believe that the value of the
- 33:58card is a factor of many different factors, and one of
- 34:05those is the grade. But it is much more complicated
- 34:10than to just look at the grade and the holder to determine what
- 34:16the value of the card is, at least to me.
- 34:19Now, am I the only person like that?
- 34:21I don't think so. And if I am, I'm OK with that.
- 34:25But whether or not the SG CS are here and the PS As are here and
- 34:30the prices are like this, I might look at all of that.
- 34:33And in fact, last week I did a video talking about how do PSA
- 34:38values in certain grades compared to SGC right now and
- 34:42how has that changed over the last three years.
- 34:45And surprisingly, SG CS holding very strong even given all of
- 34:50the SGC issues right now. So with that said, I totally
- 34:56appreciate what you're saying and I see how many people do
- 35:00care about the slab and do care about the grade and that could
- 35:03have some helpful, you know, characteristics to it.
- 35:08But I'm probably the wrong guy to ask.
- 35:11And if I want to see what BB GS sell for in A7, I can, I can put
- 35:18that into my search engine in Card Ladder and I can look for
- 35:22just that holder in that grade of that card.
- 35:27And then I can quickly just go up, change it from BBG to SGC
- 35:32and rerun the search and, and see those ones.
- 35:35So in a way, I feel like you kind of can do that by looking
- 35:39at the sales data from Card Ladder.
- 35:42Very, very easy to use interface.
- 35:45That's my take, again, if you haven't heard it yet, promo code
