Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on sport and state.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Glad you're with us, Hutton and Withrow. Good morning to you.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Presented by Hard Rock Bet. Jonathan Hutton here. Chad Withrow
- 0:07Speaker 1: will join us tonight for Dixieland Delight Friday night in Knoxville.
- 0:11Speaker 1: The show brings us to Gatlinburg and together with Next
- 0:16Speaker 1: Round Live.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Guys, we've got LT. The great Wes Taylor. Good to
- 0:20Speaker 2: see you. Good to see you too, my friend. How
- 0:22Speaker 2: are you, buddy? Good to be around some legends. I
- 0:25Speaker 2: don't know about that. It just means we're old. That's right.
- 0:29Speaker 2: If Dunaway were here, I would have said that.
- 0:31Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 0:32Speaker 4: He's more sensitive about that than I am. But you
- 0:34Speaker 4: could have called him a legend and he would have
- 0:35Speaker 4: loved it.
- 0:35Speaker 2: You guys left him behind? Uh, he actually does play
- 0:38Speaker 2: by play for a local high school, which you've done. Yeah.
- 0:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah. So they're playing tonight.
- 0:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 0:43Speaker 2: So he's got kind of an obligation there. We let
- 0:45Speaker 2: him off the hook.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:46Speaker 2: So he's like the team owner. He's the, uh, that's right.
- 0:50Speaker 4: He'll, he'll anchor it in studio the way, the way
- 0:52Speaker 4: he plays in case there's any trouble.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Because we are old. I will say this is the
- 0:56Speaker 2: first show I have ever done in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I'm
- 0:59Speaker 2: with you, Lance. I'm with you. This is mine too.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's also my first show where I've had LT on
- 1:06Speaker 1: air without sunglasses on.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Oh, how about that?
- 1:08Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:09Speaker 7: So the last time I think I was on was
- 1:12Speaker 7: with you and Jill Savage.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Chad missed that one too, unfortunately. Yeah, he did.
- 1:17Speaker 7: And I almost missed it because it was a late
- 1:19Speaker 7: night dentistry before. But I'll never forget, you guys got
- 1:22Speaker 7: it up early. It was like a 7 a.m. Yeah,
- 1:24Speaker 7: out kicked the tailgate. Yeah, and I remember a golf
- 1:26Speaker 7: cart brought me up there. I was staying at the
- 1:28Speaker 7: Hotel Indigo, and I was absolutely still trashed.
- 1:32Speaker 2: So I apologize for that. I had to wear sunglasses.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Different today.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Yeah, me and Dunaway. Were you at the one we
- 1:37Speaker 4: did at Sky Bar? It was before that Auburn game. Yeah,
- 1:40Speaker 4: me and Dunaway went out and did that one. That
- 1:41Speaker 4: was early. Yeah, that was great.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 1: These guys are awesome because originally we were just going
- 1:47Speaker 1: to have them on individually for a second because they're
- 1:49Speaker 1: coming up. They've got their show here at Tennessee Moonshine Company.
- 1:52Speaker 1: We're going to get to them in a moment. They
- 1:54Speaker 1: were like, hey, what if we just do the show?
- 1:55Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, why not?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 1:57Speaker 2: We've never done this. We're going to be here either way, right?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 2: We love talking college football. That's right.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Well, we're going to talk ball. This is the great
- 2:04Speaker 1: spot about this because you talk ball. You've got the bar.
- 2:07Speaker 1: You've got the shine. We had some samples last night.
- 2:10Speaker 7: Man, I was telling Brianna on the way, I was like,
- 2:12Speaker 7: you know, there's so many different flavors because last night
- 2:16Speaker 7: our host here, Richard Holland, at the Tennessee Shine Company,
- 2:20Speaker 7: he brought out some old-fashioned flavored moonshine.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:24Speaker 7: And then he asked you, like, what do you want?
- 2:25Speaker 7: And you were like– I can't even remember. You were like,
- 2:27Speaker 7: I want a blackberry. I've got a reason for that.
- 2:31Speaker 7: They can find almost any flavor you want. Maybe a
- 2:35Speaker 7: drop of blood of a young Native American. If we
- 2:37Speaker 7: could add that in there.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's the taste of my youth. Okay.
- 2:40Speaker 7: It's not even an exaggeration. Like the old push-up, the
- 2:44Speaker 7: orange sherbet pop. They've got one of those. PJ, who
- 2:47Speaker 7: is kind of helping us out here, one of the
- 2:49Speaker 7: general managers here.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Shout out PJ, who had it early for us.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Yeah, boy.
- 2:52Speaker 7: He said, do you like Bloody Marys? And I was like,
- 2:54Speaker 7: on occasion, he's like, our Bloody Mary Shine is one
- 2:57Speaker 7: of the best. He was like, it tastes like an
- 2:59Speaker 7: incredible bowl of chili.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I don't know what that means. I like chili. I do, too.
- 3:03Speaker 1: It's going to be chilly weather starting later today. So
- 3:05Speaker 1: we'll get some.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Of that going. But anyway, we're going to be drinking
- 3:08Speaker 2: Shine all day.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But remember, you guys are a background radio. Ten years ago,
- 3:13Speaker 1: we were ten years away from being ten years away.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I got you.
- 3:17Speaker 1: The thought of being in a bar... You know, and
- 3:20Speaker 1: actually having samples on air was just unheard of.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Think about this. You guys may have done that. No,
- 3:24Speaker 2: I can't make this up. Lance has a story.
- 3:26Speaker 7: Yeah, when I first got on the air, so this was,
- 3:29Speaker 7: and this is going to date me, this is 2000, 2001.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah. So we're talking quarter of a century ago. We
- 3:36Speaker 2: had a guy, I'll just say his first name, Derek.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 2: He was our on-site tech. His name was James. Surly
- 3:43Speaker 2: old man. He was a surly old man. So we
- 3:45Speaker 2: would do a show from this bar every Friday night.
- 3:49Speaker 7: And I got called into the general manager's office on
- 3:52Speaker 7: a Tuesday morning, and he was like, you were drinking
- 3:55Speaker 7: on the show on Friday night. And I was like, well,
- 3:58Speaker 7: what are you talking about? He's like, Derek told me
- 4:00Speaker 7: that you've been drinking live on the air. Now, obviously,
- 4:03Speaker 7: it's not a visual medium. So we're sitting there like
- 4:06Speaker 7: the only way that somebody would know it. It's not
- 4:08Speaker 7: like I was slurring and getting out of whack. And
- 4:11Speaker 7: so I get reprimanded. Don't do it again. You can't
- 4:13Speaker 7: do it as FCC violation, blah, blah, blah. So I
- 4:16Speaker 7: go to the tech, Derek, and I'm like, dude, what's up?
- 4:19Speaker 7: And he's like, it's in the employee handbook.
- 4:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:21Speaker 2: There's no drinking.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I read the employee handbook on my downtime. Anyway.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Back to your point. I mean. It's amazing.
- 4:29Speaker 7: Now we can get away with basically anything on digital media.
- 4:32Speaker 7: I guess if I wanted to smoke a joint on
- 4:33Speaker 7: sport and state, I could do it. There's, there's a
- 4:35Speaker 7: cannabis shop right now.
- 4:36Speaker 1: His last name is McAfee. I mean, I, and I
- 4:39Speaker 1: don't know what doesn't go really on digital. We also
- 4:42Speaker 1: had a coworker. He was like, um, the legendary classic
- 4:45Speaker 1: rock DJ in Birmingham. And we were working in radio
- 4:48Speaker 1: and great guy. And he actually did a PSA with
- 4:51Speaker 1: the state of Alabama, like the state troopers, where he
- 4:53Speaker 1: drank during his show to show how quickly you get drunk.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a truck driving awareness. And, buddy, he
- 5:00Speaker 4: got smashed by the end of the show. That was entertaining.
- 5:03Speaker 7: Every day was his Christmas party. But I'll tell you,
- 5:05Speaker 7: I started doing a show with him. I did it
- 5:07Speaker 7: for one year.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I think it was 2005. Him and I did a
- 5:09Speaker 2: two-hour midday show. With this guy? Yeah, with this guy.
- 5:14Speaker 2: They moved him over to the sports side. You know
- 5:16Speaker 2: how they do it. Oh, my gosh. Physically. No, I
- 5:20Speaker 2: will tell you. This guy was like I was here,
- 5:22Speaker 2: he was here. He's next level. And I'll never forget,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I had a birthday party the night before. It was
- 5:28Speaker 2: a Thursday.
- 5:29Speaker 7: It was going into the Final Four weekend. And we
- 5:31Speaker 7: get to this place that was called Sneaky Pete's Cafe.
- 5:34Speaker 7: It was right there in Lakeview.
- 5:35Speaker 2: That's right. And right when we get there, Herb Winches,
- 5:37Speaker 2: who is literally a legend.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Yeah, he's the radio legend and sports talk radio legend
- 5:40Speaker 4: in Birmingham.
- 5:41Speaker 7: He was doing the afternoon show, and he came up.
- 5:43Speaker 7: It was his account. And he said, hey, we're going
- 5:45Speaker 7: to promote dollar beers. And he was like, do you
- 5:47Speaker 7: guys want one? And we had been out all night.
- 5:49Speaker 7: And I was like, yes.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And I was like, good idea.
- 5:51Speaker 7: It's 10 a.m. They bring out the dollar beers. We
- 5:53Speaker 7: start drinking. Thank God we had a girl named Kelly Hunter,
- 5:55Speaker 7: who's awesome. She's done some things on her platform before.
- 5:58Speaker 7: She happened to be our guest sit-in. She had to
- 6:02Speaker 7: drive the show the final hour because him and I
- 6:03Speaker 7: couldn't speak.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I swear to God. And we get called into Ryan
- 6:07Speaker 2: Haney's office. Oh, yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 7: And he said, I just need honesty here. He said,
- 6:11Speaker 7: were you guys drinking on Friday? I've gotten a million complaints.
- 6:14Speaker 7: And we both looked at each other. We're like, absolutely not.
- 6:17Speaker 7: I thought you said you were going to do the
- 6:18Speaker 7: sling blade. Pretty much. You guys been drinking? Pretty much.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah. That was our man. Dwight Yoakam. Yeah. So what
- 6:27Speaker 2: did you say? I want to ask you what he said.
- 6:30Speaker 2: How did you get away with it?
- 6:31Speaker 7: Well, because back in, like, everything has got a digital
- 6:34Speaker 7: footprint now. Like, in terrestrial radio, you didn't get anybody
- 6:37Speaker 7: who was rolling on that. There was no tape on that.
- 6:39Speaker 7: Nobody calls about this.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's like the day Clay said the word penis like
- 6:43Speaker 1: 158 times over the course of his show.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It was the Brett Favre picture. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Was
- 6:48Speaker 2: this on radio? It was on radio.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Like a grandfather called in. He was like, I've got
- 6:51Speaker 1: my grandson in the car. And that was the– And
- 6:54Speaker 1: Clay was like, what do you refer to it as
- 6:56Speaker 1: with your grandson? He's going to have a biology class
- 6:59Speaker 1: at some point.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Yeah, and by the way, Digital, when we got on this,
- 7:01Speaker 7: I think you guys were a little afraid that I
- 7:03Speaker 7: was going to go nuts.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Because my mouth is awful.
- 7:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 7: And I have had such a filter. I think I've
- 7:08Speaker 7: only dropped the F-bomb like 10 times in the five
- 7:11Speaker 7: years that we've done it. But the other greats, I
- 7:14Speaker 7: have never held back. And look, I got a lot
- 7:17Speaker 7: of respect for him because of what he's created. I've
- 7:19Speaker 7: never watched the Pat McAfee show, but one of our
- 7:22Speaker 7: sales guys had it on in the office. Oh my God,
- 7:25Speaker 7: he dropped the F-bomb like seven times on ESPN within
- 7:29Speaker 7: like three minutes. And I was like, Everybody's worried about, like,
- 7:32Speaker 7: maybe this guy's doing it on ESPN.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Chad and I recently discussed this. Even college game day.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:38Speaker 2: You've got Saban. Yeah. He talks like a football coach.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I think both of them intentionally dropped something randomly just
- 7:47Speaker 1: for the sake that they can.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Do it moving forward. So the best part was. Because
- 7:51Speaker 2: they could get away with it. The other guys can't
- 7:52Speaker 2: get away with it.
- 7:53Speaker 4: When we first launched our digital platform back in 2021,
- 7:55Speaker 4: we were kind of feeling it out. Like Lance said,
- 7:58Speaker 4: we didn't know. you know, how the audience would react
- 8:00Speaker 4: to stuff like that. I know where you're going on this.
- 8:02Speaker 4: So nobody had ever dropped an F-bomb. I mean, just
- 8:05Speaker 4: very little profanity or anything out of the way. There
- 8:07Speaker 4: was a delay where you could catch it. In radio, yes,
- 8:10Speaker 4: but we're on digital, no. Yeah, when you made the movie,
- 8:12Speaker 4: you don't have that. That's right, we don't have that.
- 8:13Speaker 4: So we were kind of tiptoeing, and we didn't know what.
- 8:15Speaker 4: So Charles Barkley is a good friend of ours, and
- 8:17Speaker 4: he's in Birmingham a lot. So Barkley came in studio
- 8:19Speaker 4: with us shortly after we started. And Lance will back
- 8:22Speaker 4: me up. In the first 30 seconds, he'd used like
- 8:24Speaker 4: six F-bombs.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 4: And not one complaint. And I'm like, okay, well, I
- 8:29Speaker 4: guess that's where the line is.
- 8:30Speaker 2: There's just certain people who can get away with it.
- 8:31Speaker 2: That's it. That was it. I mean, Charles is like,
- 8:34Speaker 2: nobody's going to complain about Charles.
- 8:35Speaker 3: What did you expect?
- 8:35Speaker 7: Yeah, I brought this up with Lane Kiffin. Like, Lane
- 8:37Speaker 7: Kiffin's that coach. If he's, you know, playing, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 7: You know, if he's in a hot tub with seven
- 8:43Speaker 7: co-eds and there's a picture.
- 8:44Speaker 2: If it's Lane Kiffin or Joey Freshwater, it doesn't matter.
- 8:46Speaker 7: It doesn't matter. Everybody's like, oh, it's Lane Kiffin. Can
- 8:49Speaker 7: you imagine if, let's just throw out, Kirk Cignetti was in.
- 8:52Speaker 2: A hot tub with a couple of co-eds?
- 8:54Speaker 3: That'd be weird.
- 8:55Speaker 7: That would be a massive story. But, you know, we,
- 8:57Speaker 7: and Brown used to work with Kenny Stabler, one of
- 8:59Speaker 7: the Alabama greats. Hall of Famer, you know, Raiders quarterback.
- 9:03Speaker 7: And just, I'm telling you, AFL. fun guy from from
- 9:07Speaker 7: probably from birth to grave but he got a DUI
- 9:10Speaker 7: and you know DUIs now are almost like a death
- 9:12Speaker 7: sentence for a lot of people in our industry yeah
- 9:15Speaker 7: I mean people are like ah it's the snake yeah
- 9:17Speaker 7: so let me tell you they just came in wearing
- 9:19Speaker 7: sunglasses that morning we got that for a quick so
- 9:22Speaker 7: I was on a radio show with Kenny Stabler the
- 9:24Speaker 7: late Kenny Stabler when he got this DUI and the
- 9:27Speaker 7: story is there's a place uh for those that have
- 9:29Speaker 7: been down on the Alabama Gulf there's a place called
- 9:31Speaker 7: Ono Island which is it's adjacent to the gulf but
- 9:35Speaker 7: it's there's a little body of water and it's this
- 9:36Speaker 7: private island where you know the nicer houses are yeah
- 9:39Speaker 7: very exclusive yeah very exclusive and it's gated entry and
- 9:42Speaker 7: all that so snake lives on ono island so he's
- 9:45Speaker 7: coming back from the floribama or wherever he is and
- 9:48Speaker 7: these orange peach cops are out patrolling and you know
- 9:51Speaker 7: somebody flies by they pull him over and it's snake
- 9:53Speaker 7: and then he realized it's kenny stabler right he's a
- 9:56Speaker 7: state of alabama legend so they're just going to drive
- 9:58Speaker 7: him home so you know they know he's been drinking
- 10:00Speaker 7: so they drive him home like snake man don't do
- 10:02Speaker 7: this to us guys i'm so sorry man i appreciate
- 10:05Speaker 7: you i mean that's a pretty good snake i'm so
- 10:07Speaker 7: sorry man i had.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Done that in a while because he's been going for
- 10:09Speaker 2: a while and you know what's great with that voice
- 10:12Speaker 2: he's a massive guy like he oh yeah.
- 10:14Speaker 4: He was a big dude so i'm so sorry i
- 10:16Speaker 4: appreciate everything you guys do i won't do that again
- 10:19Speaker 4: They said literally 20 minutes later, they're back where they were.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Vroom! There goes Snake's car. There goes Snake's car again.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It's like Ric Flair. Ric Flair showed up. Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 7: Well, I mean, and like Ric Flair, Snake was just
- 10:30Speaker 7: chasing ass. Like, as much as I can drink, and
- 10:32Speaker 7: I'm just targeting on one thing.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah. We got plenty of time for stories. You want
- 10:36Speaker 2: a story about Flair? No, heck yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So I recently met him. He very obviously beat the run-in.
- 10:44Speaker 1: This is also random, but Charlotte Flair, real name Ashley. Yeah,
- 10:47Speaker 1: we've had Charlotte in the studio before.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Nice girl. Sneaky hot, too, by the way. Yeah, I agree.
- 10:53Speaker 1: She came in for the opening, the premiere of Craig's Nashville,
- 10:58Speaker 1: like Craig's LA.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Okay. And I guess she's an investor or something.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And our producer, you remember Shona?
- 11:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 2: From Outkick the Tailgate.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 2: She's now running some things. In Miami, right? Yeah, well,
- 11:09Speaker 2: Miami and L.A.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, wherever they are. So she's coming in because she's
- 11:13Speaker 1: helping that with Charlotte. And she's like, hey, we're going
- 11:16Speaker 1: to be across from you. Do you mind being a
- 11:19Speaker 1: plus one with Charlotte that night?
- 11:21Speaker 2: I'm like, okay.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So I literally just walked across the street that night
- 11:24Speaker 1: as a plus one for the premiere. And it was
- 11:27Speaker 1: a blast. Ashley was cool.
- 11:29Speaker 2: You put two and a half, Nelson? I would have
- 11:31Speaker 2: asked for that. That was the goal, right? So the
- 11:34Speaker 2: night before, she has Monday Night Raw.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Okay?
- 11:37Speaker 2: It's a Tuesday.
- 11:38Speaker 1: And when she walks up, I join them in line.
- 11:42Speaker 1: We're in line to get in. And would you guys agree?
- 11:45Speaker 1: It's nothing like what she appears on TV. Like it's
- 11:48Speaker 1: just very, yeah, it's a, and I think she'll like,
- 11:51Speaker 1: it's a softer version of character.
- 11:53Speaker 4: It was a little soft spoken in our interview. That
- 11:55Speaker 4: surprised me a little bit.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 7: He was sitting there. I remember she was on her phone.
- 11:58Speaker 7: She had a thing, a Starbucks, you know, very well
- 12:00Speaker 7: manicured nails. I mean, she was, it was just like
- 12:02Speaker 7: a normal tennis chick. You would see that. It was Ashley,
- 12:06Speaker 7: not Charlotte. It's how I would describe it.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 1: So a great night. Now I was asking like, is,
- 12:12Speaker 1: is Rick the same way? She's like, Absolutely not. This
- 12:14Speaker 1: is not nothing like, so a few months later. And
- 12:17Speaker 1: I find that hard to believe, but no, I mean like,
- 12:19Speaker 1: as far as like a, like he never heard at all.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Right. Okay. I got you. I believe that I will
- 12:25Speaker 2: confirm this.
- 12:26Speaker 1: So I'm not even from the drinking part, but like the, um,
- 12:29Speaker 1: so the, we get to the Superbowl this past year
- 12:33Speaker 1: and I had, you know, I was, I saw Ric Flair,
- 12:36Speaker 1: Chad and I were just sitting at a bar and I,
- 12:39Speaker 1: at the hotel, we'd look over and I said, that's
- 12:40Speaker 1: Ric Flair. Cause he's got like two, two guys with him. And, uh,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I said, I'm going to go, I'm going to go
- 12:45Speaker 1: tell him about the, the premiere with, uh, with, uh, Charlotte.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And so he's getting ready, getting ready to walk out
- 12:51Speaker 1: the door. And I, as he goes out the door
- 12:53Speaker 1: to the sidewalk, I was like, uh, Mr. Flare, Rick, Rick,
- 12:56Speaker 1: he turns around. I was like, what, how was that?
- 12:57Speaker 1: And he's, you know, he's, he's older.
- 12:59Speaker 2: He's, he's ready to go. It's night or so.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And I kept saying, Hey, I went to dinner and
- 13:06Speaker 1: a premiere at Craig's in Nashville with your.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Daughter, Ashley. He's like, where? And I was like, hey, Craig's. No,
- 13:12Speaker 2: but where was she? Where is she? I said, it
- 13:14Speaker 2: was in Nashville. Oh, who? And I said, Charlotte, Ashley.
- 13:19Speaker 2: And he goes, where? I said, Craig's.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And he takes off and just starts, like, straight off
- 13:23Speaker 1: the street. I guess he thought that I meant, like,
- 13:26Speaker 1: she was down the street.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Oh, no. And walks out in front of this trolley.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And you got him killed. No, like, they took off
- 13:33Speaker 1: after him. The women that were with him. And tried
- 13:35Speaker 1: to catch him and pull him back. And I went
- 13:38Speaker 1: back and told Chad, I'm like, Yeah, he just took off.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I guess he thought that Charlotte was down the street.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I mean, they literally pulled him off the tracks. That
- 13:46Speaker 1: is wild. I mean, it's not surprising. I mean, the
- 13:49Speaker 1: thing would be, like, to be able to keep his
- 13:51Speaker 1: energy up. I thought he was going to throw a
- 13:52Speaker 1: shoe at me and call me, you know, McMahon.
- 13:55Speaker 7: Yeah, that seems like once you're in character. We were
- 13:59Speaker 7: talking about this last night.
- 13:59Speaker 2: He's the same dude.
- 14:00Speaker 7: So we met our guy, PJ, and I don't know
- 14:03Speaker 7: if we should tell this or not, but he met
- 14:05Speaker 7: Larry the Cable Guy at some kind of function, a
- 14:06Speaker 7: charity function.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 7: And Larry the Cable Guy, because we've always laughed about this,
- 14:11Speaker 7: because we're like, would it be worth the money if
- 14:13Speaker 7: you had to stay in character and be that dumb hick?
- 14:16Speaker 2: That absurd character. Nonstop. So we find out that he
- 14:20Speaker 2: doesn't even have a Southern accent. Well, I.
- 14:25Speaker 1: That's hard for me to believe, just knowing that he's–
- 14:27Speaker 1: he's like the guy who played Elvis and he never
- 14:29Speaker 1: lost the voice.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 4: That's got to be him. But he is from Nebraska.
- 14:33Speaker 4: He is, but he did stand up before he had
- 14:35Speaker 4: this character. So you can go back and see some
- 14:36Speaker 4: of his stand up and it's like, hey, that dog
- 14:38Speaker 4: like this.
- 14:39Speaker 2: But Nebraska is not southern southern. No, that's what I'm saying.
- 14:43Speaker 7: But there is that Midwestern accent, and like he is–
- 14:46Speaker 7: But the Midwestern accent– I mean, he's.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas southern.
- 14:50Speaker 5: Yes.
- 14:50Speaker 2: He's deep south.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But I thought the Midwestern accent is what they wanted
- 14:54Speaker 1: broadcasters to try to.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Because it's very neutral. Yeah. No one ever says, you
- 14:59Speaker 2: sound like you're from the Midwest. No one says that.
- 15:02Speaker 7: It's more of like, you know, we're going through broadcasting school.
- 15:05Speaker 7: I don't think it matters what you talk like now.
- 15:07Speaker 7: This damn fly.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I know.
- 15:10Speaker 7: But the enunciation, it's like, make sure like nobody knows
- 15:14Speaker 7: where you're from.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Right, which is Midwest. Which is more Midwest than anything else.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yeah, because you could tell. It's like going to Italy
- 15:22Speaker 1: and walking into a restaurant. They know you're American.
- 15:24Speaker 2: That's right.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Right away.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You have to translate.
- 15:27Speaker 7: I don't have, to me, a really strong over-the-top Southern accent.
- 15:32Speaker 7: A lot of people would disagree, but if I go
- 15:33Speaker 7: to California or New York, it jumps.
- 15:37Speaker 1: This is very random, but I'm going to give a
- 15:38Speaker 1: shout-out to Jacob Lutz because it makes me bring this up.
- 15:41Speaker 2: We don't do this enough.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Since we started with Sporting State, I don't know if
- 15:46Speaker 1: you guys agree, the staff, your staff is tremendous.
- 15:49Speaker 3: They are.
- 15:49Speaker 2: They're the best in business. Our staff that we have
- 15:52Speaker 2: started with from the launch is top-notch. I agree. It's
- 15:55Speaker 2: the best group, top to bottom, as far as just
- 15:59Speaker 2: getting it done.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Yeah, everybody's so helpful. I know our guys back in Birmingham.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Anything they ask for, they got it right away. Brooks
- 16:07Speaker 4: and Scott and Tyler, our production crew, they are– I
- 16:11Speaker 4: worry about this.
- 16:11Speaker 7: Though, because we're so– JT and Mark would get rid
- 16:15Speaker 7: of this fly for us if they were here. It's
- 16:17Speaker 7: the perfect staff, and I just worry because we've only got–
- 16:21Speaker 7: it's a minimal staff. It's almost like a skeleton staff.
- 16:24Speaker 7: You're talking about us in Birmingham? Yeah, I'm talking about–
- 16:26Speaker 7: And if somebody gets hit by a truck, I'm like, damn,
- 16:28Speaker 7: how do we replace this person?
- 16:29Speaker 2: When we have somebody wake up sick, we're like, nobody
- 16:32Speaker 2: else can be sick. Yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 7: Like it's, it's just, it's tremendous. It has been a
- 16:38Speaker 7: joy to work with. You know, we've worked from afar.
- 16:40Speaker 7: We've obviously hung out a few times and stuff, but
- 16:44Speaker 7: he was a big time.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Fine.
- 16:45Speaker 7: I don't know how you guys found him, but a
- 16:47Speaker 7: good job out of clay. You Chad, whoever did it.
- 16:49Speaker 7: He has an NDA.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Hey, come here. Speaking of Chad, he's going to be
- 16:54Speaker 1: with us tonight for Dixieland delights. And shout out to
- 16:59Speaker 1: Clay's book, Disneyland delight Friday night. We're going to be
- 17:02Speaker 1: at wagon wheel in Knoxville. That will start at 8.15
- 17:05Speaker 1: Eastern time. There you see it on the screen there.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Dixieland Delight Friday night live show at Wagon Wheel. If
- 17:11Speaker 1: you saw them with Kelly and Ariel, it was a blast.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And we're looking forward to being back there all the
- 17:16Speaker 1: way from home. This is how old I go back
- 17:18Speaker 1: or how long I go back with Clay. I was
- 17:20Speaker 1: in Dixieland Delight.
- 17:22Speaker 3: In the book.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I was in balls randomly. Oh, were you?
- 17:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Sorry, Clay was with me that day when Trump
- 17:29Speaker 1: was nearly shot and killed.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Yeah, Clay does a really good job of like, I mean,
- 17:35Speaker 7: obviously he's a very good guy putting it on paper,
- 17:40Speaker 7: putting this story on paper. But he always, he includes,
- 17:44Speaker 7: my buddy Chief, this reference won't do anything for you,
- 17:46Speaker 7: but we went to.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I love Chief. He's a good dude. The Mount Cody block. Yeah, Alabama, Tennessee. Yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 2: Rocky block.
- 17:55Speaker 7: And so there was a big group and I got
- 17:57Speaker 7: us all tickets before Clay had any money. And Chris Vernon,
- 18:00Speaker 7: you know Chris Vernon, right?
- 18:01Speaker 2: Vinnie Verno.
- 18:02Speaker 7: Yeah, we took a bus over, and there was like
- 18:04Speaker 7: 10 of us. And I got us all, like, literally,
- 18:06Speaker 7: I got us like a 10-pack on the 50-yard line.
- 18:09Speaker 7: But my buddy Chief had this, like, monstrosity of bourbon,
- 18:14Speaker 7: and I don't know what was in it. And he
- 18:16Speaker 7: was just– and, like, Clay was even taking.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Sips of it. But it made the point. Which is unusual. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I mean, the details that he remembers.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:24Speaker 2: The specifics. And he does like to throw those shout-outs,
- 18:26Speaker 2: which is really cool. Yeah, it's awesome. It's awesome.
- 18:28Speaker 1: We will shout out Withrow when we come back because
- 18:31Speaker 1: we've got his top ten games of the college football weekend.
- 18:33Speaker 1: They'll kind of go back and forth, see where they
- 18:36Speaker 1: would rank these games in terms of just impact, meaning,
- 18:40Speaker 1: because this date has been circled on the college football
- 18:43Speaker 1: schedule since Since the preseason, this schedule came out and
- 18:46Speaker 1: was released. It's packed with games. Where did Chad rank them?
- 18:50Speaker 1: We've got details to get you ready for the weekend.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Coming up on Hutton and Withrow, presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Hutton and Withrow, presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And right now, $ 5.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You get up to $ 500 back.
- 19:03Speaker 2: It's a great, great offer.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Up to $ 500 back in no-sweat bets. Sign up today.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Go to hardrock.bet.com. That's hardrock.bet.com. And speaking of Hard Rock,
- 19:15Speaker 1: it's Florida's only legal sports book. And that's where Chad
- 19:18Speaker 1: Withrow has been.
- 19:20Speaker 2: He's coming back. He's driving back today, actually.
- 19:23Speaker 1: And Hard Rock is also legal and live in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan,
- 19:29Speaker 1: New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Sign up. Get all the details. Hardrock.bet.clay. That's Hardrock.bet.clay. First
- 19:38Speaker 2: thing we did, we hit the state line. That's right.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I got it downloaded. Hard Rock bet. And you know what?
- 19:42Speaker 2: It is exactly at the state line.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:45Speaker 2: That's crazy, isn't it? Nuts. Our technology. I know.
- 19:48Speaker 7: That's why you know your monitor. Your surveillance is 24 seven.
- 19:53Speaker 7: You hit the state line. It's like, welcome to Tennessee.
- 19:55Speaker 3: That's right.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But your, your car says it coming back from Oxford.
- 20:00Speaker 2: You could do it. You couldn't do it there.
- 20:02Speaker 1: So we're, we're like, man, as soon as we hit
- 20:04Speaker 1: the state line with roads, like, what are you doing?
- 20:05Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm just seeing how, how long it takes
- 20:07Speaker 1: before it knows where I am.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:09Speaker 2: And it was literally just past the sun. Wow. And
- 20:12Speaker 2: I'm thinking, man, it is literally tracking me everywhere.
- 20:16Speaker 3: You know?
- 20:16Speaker 2: I mean, it is. Not the app, just the phone.
- 20:18Speaker 2: The satellite itself.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Or it was actually probably LT who wants to share
- 20:23Speaker 1: locations all the time.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Do you remember the, I don't even know if the
- 20:26Speaker 2: movie is good. I can't even remember. It was Gene Hackman,
- 20:28Speaker 2: Will Smith, Enemy of the State. Yeah. They were all
- 20:31Speaker 2: getting surveyed. And that was like. And that was probably 1999, 2000.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Long time ago. And you're like, man, this is never
- 20:39Speaker 2: going to happen. We're never going to be there.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Here we are.
- 20:42Speaker 2: We were probably there then. That's true.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Just didn't know it.
- 20:45Speaker 1: So each and every week, Withrow will go through his
- 20:49Speaker 1: top 10 games. And it's just an intrigue, an impact,
- 20:54Speaker 1: just the massive matchups. And some weeks, there are the
- 20:59Speaker 1: weeks where he's struggling. He's like, man, Hutton, I've I
- 21:01Speaker 1: initially sat down, and I've got seven. And now I'm
- 21:04Speaker 1: looking around, trying to find. You've got to throw in
- 21:06Speaker 1: North Dakota State, UNLV. Something like that, yeah.
- 21:10Speaker 2: It's more and more.
- 21:12Speaker 1: There's no problem. He's trying to struggle to find out
- 21:14Speaker 1: what's a cut. So you guys will just see the
- 21:20Speaker 1: list as we go. And you guys know the actual
- 21:24Speaker 1: week here. This is the week, the marquee week initially.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Some of the games, like we were going to have
- 21:29Speaker 1: Michigan and Penn State this week.
- 21:31Speaker 2: We do, but... Yeah, we do. We still have it.
- 21:33Speaker 3: It's not what it was.
- 21:34Speaker 7: That was not a top 10 matchup. You know, Georgia
- 21:37Speaker 7: and Auburn is a great, the Deep South's oldest rivalry.
- 21:40Speaker 7: That's not one of the top 10 matchups.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Right. Which I get. It's interesting, yet not sad, because
- 21:47Speaker 2: we still have those games.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Right. But now we have even more marquee games to watch.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Let's go to... We'll start with number 10. This is
- 21:54Speaker 1: Chad Withrow's top 10 games of the college football weekend.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Number 10, Withrow's got... Oklahoma hosting Kentucky. And the Wildcats,
- 22:03Speaker 1: the story of the SEC so far with the team
- 22:07Speaker 1: that is really the Oklahoma of last year.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Well, they're winning at razor-thin margins. And that's what I
- 22:12Speaker 4: think scares you in this game if you're a Kentucky
- 22:14Speaker 4: fan here is you've had to go to overtime two
- 22:17Speaker 4: straight weeks to get these emotional wins. And you just
- 22:21Speaker 4: can't keep winning games like that. That catches up with you.
- 22:23Speaker 4: That's playing in traffic right there. And you're eventually going
- 22:27Speaker 4: to get hit. Now, Lance, on the other side of that,
- 22:29Speaker 4: Oklahoma's coming off a super emotional win over Texas. So
- 22:32Speaker 4: I think that factors in as well.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Boy, you think about Oklahoma got 17 points off of
- 22:36Speaker 2: special teams in defense. You know, this is an offense.
- 22:39Speaker 2: This is crazy. You got to go back to week
- 22:41Speaker 2: two of last season, the last time they went 400
- 22:44Speaker 2: yards as an offense on a power four opponent.
- 22:47Speaker 7: I mean, the offense is just putrid right now. With
- 22:49Speaker 7: all that said, I think it's a better spot for Oklahoma.
- 22:52Speaker 7: Like Kenny Minch, he's been one of the surprises of
- 22:54Speaker 7: the SEC. I just don't know if this Kentucky offense
- 22:58Speaker 7: can produce against that Oklahoma defense. And Oklahoma still has
- 23:01Speaker 7: an elite defense.
- 23:02Speaker 2: We finally saw Mateer be Mateer. What do you mean
- 23:06Speaker 2: by that, good or bad? Good. I mean, he stepped
- 23:08Speaker 2: up and made some throws.
- 23:09Speaker 4: I mean, he saved his best two throws of the
- 23:12Speaker 4: day probably after the interception.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I'm just talking to Steve.
- 23:15Speaker 4: No, but wants to set up the field as his
- 23:17Speaker 4: best two throws of the day probably.
- 23:19Speaker 7: You know, we've got, I would say, four to five
- 23:21Speaker 7: elite quarterbacks in this league, especially when Camario's healthy. But, Mateer,
- 23:26Speaker 7: when you just look at quarterback efficiency, it's higher than,
- 23:29Speaker 7: I mean, obviously you've got the Marcel Reeds and the
- 23:31Speaker 7: Byron Browns and pick your Tennessee quarterback on the back end.
- 23:35Speaker 2: But he's got better numbers than Orange Manning.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Aside from numbers, when I say Stockton, I mean in
- 23:41Speaker 1: the moment the dude made the play. And that's what
- 23:45Speaker 1: I would know him for when he comes in, especially
- 23:48Speaker 1: with his coach. I just have not seen that.
- 23:50Speaker 2: That's right. This matters now.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 2: There's a little confidence there. And the only thing he
- 23:54Speaker 2: doesn't need to do is turn the football over. You
- 23:56Speaker 2: go back to Red River in 25, he turned it
- 23:59Speaker 2: over three times. And, you know, when he turns it over,
- 24:01Speaker 2: they've got no shot. But, you know, I don't think
- 24:04Speaker 2: they're going to be able to run the football again.
- 24:05Speaker 2: This is one of the biggest surprises to me. Brown
- 24:07Speaker 2: was complete anti-Oklahoma.
- 24:09Speaker 3: I was.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Coming into the year, I thought they were going to
- 24:11Speaker 2: be the third best team in the SEC. I really did.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Building on 11 wins last year with that defense.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 24:17Speaker 7: And Mateer slash Arbuckle, it couldn't be worse.
- 24:20Speaker 2: It only had to be better. And statistically, it's worse.
- 24:23Speaker 2: At least you didn't think A & M was going
- 24:24Speaker 2: to be great. I really did not like Elko, but
- 24:27Speaker 2: that's been a weird situation. I just back football coaches.
- 24:30Speaker 2: This one, I missed it. I missed A & M.
- 24:32Speaker 7: Actually, it's not a bad play. You know, I mean,
- 24:36Speaker 7: typically Kyle Whittingham is really good. Elko's really good. It's
- 24:39Speaker 7: just been a weird year.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Number nine. Weird year. Carolina, Belichick. Best piece of backseat football.
- 24:46Speaker 7: Well, you know, they're coming off their first top 25
- 24:49Speaker 7: win in the Belichick era. Not that it's been long
- 24:51Speaker 7: and deep. It's been a year plus right now.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It feels like 10 years.
- 24:53Speaker 7: You know, the big question for me is Nate Shepard
- 24:55Speaker 7: going to play? Nate Shepard is one of those running
- 24:57Speaker 7: backs nobody talks about. Manny Diaz, I'm not a huge fan,
- 25:00Speaker 7: but he's done a really good job at Duke. Obviously,
- 25:03Speaker 7: you're reigning ACC champion. Everybody in the world is on
- 25:08Speaker 7: North Carolina in this game.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Duke will win this game. I was about to say,
- 25:10Speaker 2: what does that normally tell you?
- 25:11Speaker 5: Yep.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Let me tell you about Manny Diaz real quick. He
- 25:13Speaker 1: was the former defensive coordinator at MTSU where I went
- 25:15Speaker 1: to college. Dude had no business.
- 25:17Speaker 2: What year was that? I went to college 2002. I
- 25:20Speaker 2: remember this. 2006. And he was there with Brent Stockstall. Sorry,
- 25:26Speaker 2: Rick Stockstall. Not Brent. Brent was probably a kindergartner. Rick
- 25:30Speaker 2: Stockstall was– he had hair.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And Manny was there as the defensive coordinator and was
- 25:37Speaker 1: awesome to me. He had no business being cool about like, hey–
- 25:41Speaker 1: I've heard he's a good dude. He's a great dude.
- 25:42Speaker 1: His dad is the former mayor of Miami.
- 25:44Speaker 2: That's right.
- 25:45Speaker 3: I knew that.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Again, he's coming in. You wouldn't have known that. It's
- 25:47Speaker 1: like Arthur Smith, former OC with the Titans. His dad
- 25:50Speaker 1: is Fred Smith.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. You would have no idea. It's a
- 25:53Speaker 2: little different than a politician. If Fred Smith was my
- 25:55Speaker 2: old man, I probably would flex that a little bit.
- 25:57Speaker 2: But he didn't.
- 25:58Speaker 1: That's right. He never cashed in on that. Neither did Manny,
- 26:01Speaker 1: is what I'm saying. You wouldn't have known that had
- 26:03Speaker 1: that not been the storyline. Go with Duke is what
- 26:06Speaker 1: LT's saying. Number eight. I... We'll see what you guys think.
- 26:11Speaker 1: It's Miami and Florida State.
- 26:13Speaker 4: You know, I had gotten a little more hope in
- 26:15Speaker 4: Florida State, and there had started to be the discussion of, hey,
- 26:17Speaker 4: maybe Mike Norvell turns this around and saves it. Boy,
- 26:21Speaker 4: last week, man, they were right back to old Florida State.
- 26:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, up 14-0, and then Louisville goes 397
- 26:28Speaker 7: on the ground. I mean, it was like one of
- 26:30Speaker 7: these military matchups you get. Yeah, I mean, Keen Holtz,
- 26:35Speaker 7: Isaac Brown. I think Isaac Brown went for like 200.
- 26:39Speaker 7: Florida State has lost 10 consecutive road games in the ACC.
- 26:42Speaker 7: If you go back to 2023, the first game after
- 26:45Speaker 7: Jordan Travis goes down, they play Louisville in that ACC championship.
- 26:49Speaker 7: They win it in a defensive struggle. But since that moment,
- 26:53Speaker 7: Mike Norvell is 10-20. That's hard to believe.
- 26:57Speaker 2: That is hard to believe. That is a terrible record.
- 27:00Speaker 1: A terrible contract. We could get that coming up with
- 27:02Speaker 1: the dilemma they're in.
- 27:03Speaker 7: But you look at Darian Mintzer right now completing 84%
- 27:05Speaker 7: of his passes. He's yet to throw a pick. This
- 27:07Speaker 7: Miami offense is clicking. Malachi Toney's a guy we hadn't
- 27:09Speaker 7: talked about in weeks.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Because they play so far off the stage, basically.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:14Speaker 7: And I don't even know. I think he'll have a
- 27:16Speaker 7: massive impact. But Mark Fletcher, I mean, they will run
- 27:19Speaker 7: the ball at will. There's a reason they're a 21
- 27:21Speaker 7: and a half point favorite over the Simpsons. I was
- 27:23Speaker 7: going to say, Miami is feeling what Alabama has felt
- 27:26Speaker 7: in the past where If you go to the game,
- 27:28Speaker 7: the fans are going to church.
- 27:29Speaker 1: They're coming in. The doors are open. They're expected to
- 27:31Speaker 1: be there and stay the entire time. They're listening to
- 27:34Speaker 1: the message. They're watching the pastor go to work on
- 27:37Speaker 1: the pulpit, which is the head coach. And you cheer
- 27:41Speaker 1: on your team. You're expecting to win. You're going to
- 27:42Speaker 1: leave happy, and you're going to tithe. You're going to
- 27:44Speaker 1: save a ton of money. That's Miami. They're going in
- 27:47Speaker 1: for the beatdown against one of the rivals. It's like
- 27:49Speaker 1: Alabama playing Ole Miss 2020.
- 27:51Speaker 2: When was that?
- 27:51Speaker 1: 2022, 2021. where Lane Kiffin came in and was– this
- 27:57Speaker 1: was more recent.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin came in and they were 4-0-5. Oh, yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 1: that was– They were up 21-0 at half.
- 28:01Speaker 3: 2022.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Kiffin– It was 2021 because it was
- 28:06Speaker 2: our first year.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Yeah, Kiffin did– he went for four first downs– or
- 28:10Speaker 4: four fourth downs on that first possession.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Get your popcorn ready.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 2: The fans weren't nervous. Everybody came in and just kind of–
- 28:15Speaker 2: They knew what was going to happen. It wasn't loud
- 28:16Speaker 2: at all. They were there at church.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Number seven, Texas hosting Florida. Florida had the upset early on.
- 28:23Speaker 1: against Ole Miss, and then they've lost two straight. Texas
- 28:26Speaker 1: comes in. Arch Manning's not playing well. They're coming off
- 28:29Speaker 1: the loss. Guys, what happens here? Does Florida get back
- 28:31Speaker 1: on track with a run game?
- 28:32Speaker 7: Well, you know, I mean, it was about Florida's offense,
- 28:34Speaker 7: and everybody was talking about Buster Faulkner, and this guy
- 28:36Speaker 7: has got to go on and book him for winning
- 28:38Speaker 7: the Royals award as the best assistant coach in all
- 28:41Speaker 7: of college football, and this offense fell apart. I kind
- 28:43Speaker 7: of understood it against Missouri. It seemed like one of
- 28:45Speaker 7: those ripe moments, but for South Carolina to come in
- 28:48Speaker 7: and absolutely gash them, destroy them in the swamp, There's
- 28:51Speaker 7: a major concern right now, not only for Florida's defense,
- 28:54Speaker 7: but now the offense.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Jaden Ball, what, 72 yards last two games?
- 28:57Speaker 4: 72 yards the last two games, and he's had 72-yard
- 29:00Speaker 4: quarters this year. So that's crazy to think about. But
- 29:03Speaker 4: their offense had been bailing that defense out. And now
- 29:05Speaker 4: that the offense has gotten throttled back, that defense is
- 29:08Speaker 4: just as bad as it has been.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Well, if you just stop the run game, not stop,
- 29:11Speaker 2: just control it, you're winning, right, against Florida?
- 29:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Is that the thought?
- 29:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's what the last two weeks has happened
- 29:17Speaker 4: to me.
- 29:17Speaker 2: And Texas could do that. Absolutely. Well, I think Texas
- 29:20Speaker 2: can get healthy on offense. When you look at this
- 29:21Speaker 2: three-game stretch coming up, this Texas offense has been an enigma, really,
- 29:25Speaker 2: when you think about all of the skill they've got.
- 29:27Speaker 2: When you bring in Relique Brown and Hollywood Smothers and
- 29:29Speaker 2: Cam Coleman, to compliment Ryan Wingo and then the way
- 29:32Speaker 2: Arch was playing in November last year with one of
- 29:35Speaker 2: the best play callers in all of football and Sark,
- 29:37Speaker 2: it just hasn't been there, but this, this is a
- 29:40Speaker 2: get well moment for them. And then on the other side,
- 29:43Speaker 2: Bob's going to have a problem with this Texas defense. Yeah.
- 29:46Speaker 1: And real quick on, on arch. I don't think he's
- 29:48Speaker 1: been bad, bad. He's just average, and there's a greatness
- 29:51Speaker 1: level with the last name. I think he's just a quarterback.
- 29:54Speaker 2: He is. He's been a quarterback.
- 29:56Speaker 7: Yeah, that's fair, but what is surprising to me is
- 30:00Speaker 7: he was just a quarterback this time last year, and
- 30:02Speaker 7: then he turned that corner, and he started playing really,
- 30:04Speaker 7: really well, and I just thought that that would obviously carry.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Over with the confidence, his skill set, and it's just...
- 30:10Speaker 1: There's been no corner this year. There's been one quarter,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and that was the fourth quarter against the Ohio State.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Great quarter. LSU hosting Mississippi State. This is not under
- 30:19Speaker 2: the lights. This is key here. This is early.
- 30:22Speaker 4: I think I read this, Hutton, the first back-to-back 11 a.m. kicks,
- 30:26Speaker 4: not separated by a bye week or anything, in the
- 30:29Speaker 4: history of LSU football, if I read that correctly. So
- 30:33Speaker 4: I think I read that correctly, which is insane to
- 30:35Speaker 4: think about.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Yes, it is.
- 30:36Speaker 7: And not that this LSU team, you know, we saw
- 30:39Speaker 7: them week one against Clemson. Everybody's like, damn, like this
- 30:42Speaker 7: team could win a national championship year one under Lane Kiffin.
- 30:45Speaker 7: Now we see really how bad that Clemson offense is
- 30:48Speaker 7: and really just Clemson.
- 30:49Speaker 2: As a whole.
- 30:50Speaker 7: But LSU, you know, Sam Leavitt leading the SEC with
- 30:54Speaker 7: eight picks right now.
- 30:55Speaker 2: He has not been good. He is not earning his, what,
- 30:58Speaker 2: $ 6 million maybe?
- 30:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 7: On the other side, you know, Fluff Bothwell probably won't play.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Kamario Taylor will not play. I know they haven't announced
- 31:08Speaker 7: that yet. I'm very confident saying that it's going to
- 31:10Speaker 7: be the backup quarterback. There's a reason this number has
- 31:12Speaker 7: gone all the way to 16 and a half. I
- 31:15Speaker 7: truly believe if Kamario Taylor was 100% healthy, this number
- 31:18Speaker 7: would be like eight or nine.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Man, think about the hype and the build of an
- 31:22Speaker 1: SEC season and where we've been with both of these
- 31:25Speaker 1: teams and where we are now on the vibe of both.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:28Speaker 1: And how we feel literally just four weeks later on LSU.
- 31:31Speaker 1: It just two weeks after we saw Mississippi State go
- 31:33Speaker 1: up and have some upsets, win some games and win
- 31:37Speaker 1: games that were neutral against like South Carolina on the road.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Come back and they have the build for Missouri.
- 31:43Speaker 5: Right.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Like there's there was a I blame this staircase. I
- 31:46Speaker 2: blame this on on on the inconsistency of LSU. If
- 31:50Speaker 2: LSU just would have gotten by Kentucky and Camario Taylor
- 31:53Speaker 2: was healthy, this would be a lot higher on.
- 31:55Speaker 1: This list, I believe. Oklahoma State, Houston. And I want
- 32:00Speaker 1: to get Houston is very good.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Very good. Oklahoma State surprises me. Yeah.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Well, these next two we're about to talk about are
- 32:08Speaker 4: probably the two best quarterback matchups of the weekend. This
- 32:11Speaker 4: one is especially a mess.
- 32:12Speaker 2: To make her.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Who a lot of people now have as the best
- 32:15Speaker 4: quarterback prospect in the upcoming draft, and then Connor Wegman's
- 32:18Speaker 4: played well for Houston.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and maybe the best. Maybe the best quarterback played
- 32:21Speaker 1: just what we've seen.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it is. I mean, Connor Wegman right now.
- 32:25Speaker 7: Is the top power four as far as total touchdowns,
- 32:28Speaker 7: 21 touchdowns for Wegman. Willie Fritz is one of these coaches.
- 32:32Speaker 7: We did a list the other day where, what was it, Brown?
- 32:35Speaker 7: It was coaches, they couldn't. vote on their own staff.
- 32:39Speaker 7: If you had one coach to win one game.
- 32:41Speaker 2: That's right. Okay. And there was only like, it was
- 32:43Speaker 2: from the athletic Bruce Feldman did it.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:45Speaker 2: There was only five.
- 32:45Speaker 7: Coaches that got votes and you know, the obvious Cignetti
- 32:48Speaker 7: and Kirby smart, but Willie Fritz was one of the
- 32:50Speaker 7: coaches on that list. And, and I think obviously he's
- 32:53Speaker 7: done a great job going from Tulane to what he's
- 32:56Speaker 7: doing right now in Houston, what he did last year
- 32:58Speaker 7: to this year, but Wegman has been absolutely outstanding.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Then Mester maker. That's why to me, it's so surprising that,
- 33:05Speaker 2: that Mateer has struggled to this level. Yes, exactly.
- 33:07Speaker 7: I know a lot of people are going to be like, well,
- 33:09Speaker 7: North Texas to the Big 12.
- 33:10Speaker 2: It's the Pavia idea. Then Wazoo to the SEC. But
- 33:14Speaker 2: Mestemaker has been fantastic.
- 33:16Speaker 1: To me, this is a great example of if both
- 33:18Speaker 1: of these teams were in the SEC, where would they
- 33:20Speaker 1: be ranked today? You know, just at their 18th and 20th.
- 33:23Speaker 1: And a lot of it is preseason polls and how
- 33:26Speaker 1: you work your way up. strength of schedule, different things
- 33:28Speaker 1: of the perception, and also the voters not seeing games.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Watch these teams if you haven't. It's tough to find them,
- 33:34Speaker 1: but watch these teams if you haven't. We're inside the
- 33:36Speaker 1: top five of Chad Withrow's college football games of the weekend.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Missouri Ole Miss. Missouri, they finally earned my respect. I
- 33:45Speaker 1: have been down on the Tigers, and I mean, I've
- 33:48Speaker 1: been against them all year. They've been taking my money.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Well, they finally beat a ranked opponent, and that's something
- 33:53Speaker 4: Eli Drinkwitz, as much success as he's had there, has
- 33:55Speaker 4: not been able to consistently beat those ranked opponents. Lance,
- 33:58Speaker 4: this feels like a little bit of a grudge match
- 33:59Speaker 4: here with Austin Simmons playing his old team in Ole
- 34:02Speaker 4: Miss against the quarterback that replaced him in Trinidad Jambliss.
- 34:04Speaker 7: Well, you know, I think Jamal Roberts made the statement
- 34:07Speaker 7: leading the SEC right now in rushing two weeks ago
- 34:09Speaker 7: against Florida. And, you know, I thought there was going
- 34:11Speaker 7: to be a hiccup last week.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Against a bad A & M team, but they went
- 34:15Speaker 2: out with exactly what they needed to do. Took care
- 34:18Speaker 2: of business. Now Austin Simmons is viewed as a top 15,
- 34:22Speaker 2: you know, in next May's draft, one of the top
- 34:24Speaker 2: three or four quarterbacks. He's playing at an extremely high level,
- 34:27Speaker 2: and then you throw in Caden Lee, a weapon on
- 34:29Speaker 2: the perimeter there. Ole Miss' defense got right against Vanderbilt,
- 34:33Speaker 2: but I think everybody's defense is going to get right
- 34:34Speaker 2: against Vanderbilt. I think Pete Golding's defense has got some leaks.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I like Ole Miss to win this game, but this, again,
- 34:41Speaker 2: Brown mentioned the fact the Austin Simmons grudge match.
- 34:43Speaker 7: You didn't want me. Now I'm at Missouri. I'm playing
- 34:46Speaker 7: as well as any quarterback nationally. This is an incredible
- 34:49Speaker 7: quarterback matchup. I do think Ole Miss wins the game,
- 34:52Speaker 7: but I am concerned with their defense.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Mississippi State ran into a buzzsaw of Alabama. This is
- 34:56Speaker 1: Missouri's Bama week.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see that.
- 34:59Speaker 1: It's like a prove-it, step-up level type game for me.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I mean, this would be– I don't know how you
- 35:05Speaker 1: guys feel. Would this be Eli Drinkwood's biggest win, as
- 35:08Speaker 1: Missouri said?
- 35:09Speaker 2: Because it's on the road, yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 3: On the road.
- 35:11Speaker 2: On the road and where it's going to propel them,
- 35:14Speaker 2: just based on the matchups this week. Oh, they're a
- 35:15Speaker 2: top 10 team with a win here. Absolutely. And then
- 35:18Speaker 2: we start to see Drink become Drink. Right, right, right.
- 35:20Speaker 1: With the talk. Top three, here we go. Withrow has
- 35:24Speaker 1: got Alabama, Tennessee at number three. Speaking of just where
- 35:28Speaker 1: you can jump up and really go further than where
- 35:32Speaker 1: we thought they'd be, if Tennessee gets this game, Right now,
- 35:35Speaker 1: they're ranked 14th.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Where do they go?
- 35:36Speaker 4: Oh, they'll be, I think, close, if not in the
- 35:40Speaker 4: top 10. And you'll have to start discussing them as
- 35:42Speaker 4: a college football playoff team.
- 35:43Speaker 7: Yeah, I think the perception of, like, everything changes. Because
- 35:46Speaker 7: right now, I don't know how you guys feel. I
- 35:48Speaker 7: kind of don't know how you feel because we do
- 35:50Speaker 7: the show together every day. Like, the two best teams
- 35:52Speaker 7: we saw at Saturday night in the SEC, maybe even
- 35:55Speaker 7: the two best teams in the nation with Georgia and Alabama.
- 35:57Speaker 7: If Alabama was to go into Neyland and lose their
- 35:59Speaker 7: third straight there after them owning this series with such–
- 36:04Speaker 7: Bad quarterback play. Let's just go on and call it.
- 36:06Speaker 7: I like Josh Eipel. It is baffling to me that
- 36:08Speaker 7: he can't get quarterback right. I know these guys are young.
- 36:10Speaker 7: That's not an excuse anymore in college football. McIntyre's first
- 36:14Speaker 7: start turned it over three times. I don't see a
- 36:16Speaker 7: path to victory, but the number's only seven and a half.
- 36:18Speaker 7: The public is hammering Alabama here. Alabama's coming off a
- 36:22Speaker 7: tough physical loss. Man, I think Tennessee gets under the number.
- 36:26Speaker 7: I don't know how they do it. This is almost
- 36:28Speaker 7: like my Oklahoma last week against Texas. But this would
- 36:31Speaker 7: be a massive upset, in my opinion. It's weird because
- 36:34Speaker 7: you see that number 14 next to him there.
- 36:36Speaker 2: I know, I know.
- 36:37Speaker 7: And so it shouldn't be a big deal. You got
- 36:38Speaker 7: a good defense. You got Deshaun Bishop. I mean, this
- 36:41Speaker 7: shouldn't be a big deal, but it will be a
- 36:42Speaker 7: massive deal.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Can't Tennessee just play very good in the don't turn
- 36:48Speaker 1: it over, in special teams?
- 36:51Speaker 2: And Keelan's only had one bad half really against Kentucky. Yeah,
- 36:55Speaker 2: that was it.
- 36:55Speaker 7: And if he has another one of those and he's
- 36:58Speaker 7: a young player and he's electric, but if he was
- 37:00Speaker 7: to turn it over two or three times and Bishop
- 37:02Speaker 7: goes 150, which we saw Georgia gash that Alabama defense
- 37:05Speaker 7: last week.
- 37:05Speaker 2: You guys have seen this image.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Pruitt, last time that Tennessee lost. I don't know why
- 37:10Speaker 2: he was wearing it like that. Look at that.
- 37:12Speaker 3: I know.
- 37:12Speaker 2: It's just so strange. I mean, it's like he's. We
- 37:15Speaker 2: did some crazy things in COVID. That was among the craziest.
- 37:17Speaker 2: It's Jeremy Pruitt now. He's at Jacksonville State.
- 37:20Speaker 5: Okay.
- 37:20Speaker 2: In my school. So the show calls is gone.
- 37:22Speaker 4: Yeah, Jack State had to get a waiver from the
- 37:24Speaker 4: NCAA to hire him.
- 37:25Speaker 2: They said, we don't care. We're just going to hire
- 37:26Speaker 2: a coach. That's right. I mean, come on. We're Jack State, man.
- 37:28Speaker 2: We're renegades. What are they going to do to us?
- 37:30Speaker 2: I mean, that is such a well-respected. Like, if you
- 37:32Speaker 2: talk to Nick Saban about X's and O's, like, everybody
- 37:35Speaker 2: respects Jeremy.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Pruitt at the highest level. Yeah, I've talked to players.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Look at him on screen. Does Saban, does he respect that?
- 37:41Speaker 4: But I've talked to players that played in Kirby Smart's defense,
- 37:44Speaker 4: and they will tell you the best defense ever at
- 37:46Speaker 4: Alabama was Jeremy Pruitt's defense.
- 37:48Speaker 2: And they played for Kirby.
- 37:49Speaker 5: Yep.
- 37:49Speaker 1: And consider the buyout money and all that stuff. He'd
- 37:51Speaker 1: just been, you know, on the straight and narrow, so
- 37:54Speaker 1: to speak. He would have been fired. You know, he's
- 37:57Speaker 1: at Jacksonville State now.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 37:58Speaker 3: How about that?
- 38:00Speaker 1: Number two, Notre Dame, BYU. Here we go with the–
- 38:06Speaker 1: think about the schedules here. Here's the Irish.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Yep.
- 38:09Speaker 1: And this will be the game that everyone's circling and
- 38:12Speaker 1: watching across the country because, you know, the Irish. And
- 38:15Speaker 1: if BYU gets this, now people see BYU for the
- 38:18Speaker 1: first time. And I mean that like the majority of
- 38:21Speaker 1: the voters respect them because of where they start and
- 38:24Speaker 1: BYU now gets the, gets the top five ranking.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Well, you think about Kalani Sataki 28 and four in
- 38:30Speaker 2: his last 32.
- 38:31Speaker 7: Games, he's done an incredible job. My fear for BYU.
- 38:34Speaker 7: I think the atmosphere is going to be incredible. I've
- 38:36Speaker 7: heard people talking about this will be the biggest game
- 38:38Speaker 7: that they have played since the Lavelle Edwards era. This
- 38:43Speaker 7: is the first top 10 matchup ever in Provo. Um,
- 38:47Speaker 7: Notre Dame has found the ability to run the football, though.
- 38:49Speaker 7: Like 600, over 600 yards their last two games on
- 38:52Speaker 7: the ground. And the problem for BYU is no L.J.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Martin.
- 38:56Speaker 7: And now everything is on Bear Bachmeier against that Notre
- 38:58Speaker 7: Dame defense. I think too much hype here. I like
- 39:01Speaker 7: Notre Dame. Hard rock bet. Lay the 10 and a half.
- 39:05Speaker 7: This is a really, really good solid play.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I just, I can't figure out who this game's
- 39:11Speaker 4: bigger for because for Notre Dame, they've really only got
- 39:14Speaker 4: two games.
- 39:14Speaker 2: This one in Miami.
- 39:15Speaker 5: Yep.
- 39:16Speaker 4: But BYU, where they win here, and then if they're
- 39:18Speaker 4: undefeated and get upset in the Big 12 championship game,
- 39:21Speaker 4: they've got to shut it in at.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Large with this win. And Notre Dame still has Miami.
- 39:24Speaker 2: That's right. Yeah.
- 39:25Speaker 4: So, you know, in a sense, it's probably bigger for BYU,
- 39:29Speaker 4: but I can also see an argument saying, hey, if
- 39:31Speaker 4: Notre Dame loses this one, they've really got no margin
- 39:33Speaker 4: for error with Miami because if they're a two-loss team,
- 39:35Speaker 4: they've got nothing to hang their hat on.
- 39:37Speaker 7: I do think that Notre Dame will get the benefit
- 39:39Speaker 7: of the doubt of getting jobbed last year, if you
- 39:41Speaker 7: call it a job. You know, going 10-2, not getting in,
- 39:45Speaker 7: they've got the incredible brand.
- 39:46Speaker 2: They call it one.
- 39:47Speaker 7: So I still think they could go 10-2 with no
- 39:49Speaker 7: quality wins and get in this year based on the
- 39:51Speaker 7: fact that We're going to have two or three Big
- 39:54Speaker 7: Ten SEC teams with three losses. Committees are going to
- 39:57Speaker 7: be trying to decide on that. Notre Dame might get
- 40:00Speaker 7: the benefit of the doubt just based on the fact
- 40:02Speaker 7: that they didn't get in last year.
- 40:04Speaker 2: But this is a massive, massive game.
- 40:07Speaker 7: And now that we've got this ridiculous 24-team playoff coming up,
- 40:11Speaker 7: Notre Dame going into this season, you could have gone
- 40:13Speaker 7: on and booked their ticket.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Without them having to play a game.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Bear spelled B-A-R-E, by the way.
- 40:19Speaker 2: And he likes to be Bear.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Ohio State, Indiana, number one for Chad Withrow, the top
- 40:24Speaker 1: 10 games of the college football weekend.
- 40:28Speaker 2: My lock of the week is the under in this game. Oh, interesting.
- 40:32Speaker 1: With the two defenses, I'm backing that. What this game
- 40:35Speaker 1: will be like for Indiana compared to the Indiana that
- 40:38Speaker 1: I saw last year. Ohio State, though, man, the receiver alone,
- 40:45Speaker 1: is going to win the game. Yeah, but Indiana's got
- 40:47Speaker 1: two good receivers. They've probably, if you do power ranking
- 40:50Speaker 1: of the receivers, you've got Jeremiah Smith and then Beckers
- 40:53Speaker 1: and Marsh, whichever order you put them in before you
- 40:55Speaker 1: get to an Ohio State receiver. So that at least
- 40:57Speaker 1: kind of balances it a little bit.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I guess.
- 40:59Speaker 7: Yeah, Jacoby Jackson out for Ohio State. They're missing one
- 41:02Speaker 7: or two offensive linemen. So everything will be on Bo
- 41:05Speaker 7: Jackson running the football. You're right, Jeremiah Smith, like you
- 41:08Speaker 7: can't scheme for him.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Nope, nobody has. Maybe the best college receiver we've ever seen,
- 41:13Speaker 2: but that's kind of like the only go-to right now.
- 41:15Speaker 2: It's like him and Randy Moss is what he was making.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I know, exactly.
- 41:18Speaker 7: And you look at the other side, and everybody's talking about, like,
- 41:21Speaker 7: Indian is not as good, and they're not because they
- 41:23Speaker 7: don't have Fernando Mendoza. Josh Hoover has been really good,
- 41:27Speaker 7: completing 68% of his passes, 15 touchdowns, no picks. They've
- 41:32Speaker 7: won 22 straight, biggest game in the history of, of
- 41:35Speaker 7: that stadium, Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. Nobody's giving Indiana a chance.
- 41:40Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how. I don't play 11
- 41:42Speaker 2: o'clock games.
- 41:43Speaker 7: These early games I stay away from because I've been
- 41:45Speaker 7: completely jinxed.
- 41:47Speaker 2: But I love Indiana in this spot. You do? I do.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Do you like the under? Probably. I mean, the last
- 41:52Speaker 2: time we saw.
- 41:52Speaker 7: Them play 15-10, you know, before last weekend in Lincoln,
- 41:58Speaker 7: that was the first time Indiana had trailed since the
- 42:01Speaker 7: Big Ten championship game.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Like, this team just wins. They go out. They do
- 42:04Speaker 2: their business.
- 42:05Speaker 7: Um, and I watch Indiana's defensive front against this Ohio
- 42:08Speaker 7: state offensive line.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I think that could be the difference. Just missing the
- 42:11Speaker 1: top 10, Nebraska, Oregon for Chad. Yeah. So would you
- 42:15Speaker 1: guys have them in the top 10? Um, you know,
- 42:17Speaker 1: it starts at 10 o'clock Eastern.
- 42:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Which is, it's a, it's a late night game. You know, Oregon,
- 42:22Speaker 4: obviously without Dante Moore, you'll catch up.
- 42:26Speaker 2: I'd love that.
- 42:27Speaker 7: Yeah, Dante Moore, it's so weird that, like, it was
- 42:30Speaker 7: a violent hit, obviously, he took in the Coliseum. And
- 42:32Speaker 7: then Raiola comes in and plays his ass off.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Incredible. And then Raiola was awful last week. Seven turnovers
- 42:39Speaker 2: they had. Seven.
- 42:40Speaker 7: Yeah, and you just wonder what he's going to do
- 42:41Speaker 7: against his former team. And I think that is one
- 42:44Speaker 7: of the great storylines here. And now people watching Nebraska
- 42:47Speaker 7: look like the old black shirts, the first three quarters
- 42:49Speaker 7: against Indiana. So, you know, I think we've got a
- 42:51Speaker 7: battle here. So I would have put this in my
- 42:53Speaker 7: top ten. I like chats.
- 42:55Speaker 2: And I love the fact that we've got a, I
- 42:59Speaker 2: think it's 11 o'clock Eastern, isn't it? That's right. We're
- 43:02Speaker 2: in the Eastern time zone. It's even late for us.
- 43:04Speaker 5: It is.
- 43:04Speaker 2: It was 10 o'clock Central. That's right. You're right. I
- 43:07Speaker 2: like it even more. That's right. Timmy, by the way,
- 43:10Speaker 2: Timmy beat Tim Brando on the call. Oh, wow. Even
- 43:12Speaker 2: back there. What the hell is he staying up that late?
- 43:15Speaker 2: I know.
- 43:15Speaker 1: That's his bet. He was pissed off for greatness. He
- 43:17Speaker 1: was on the show earlier this week. He was pissed
- 43:18Speaker 1: off for greatness about that kickoff.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Good.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, that's Withrow's Top Ten Games of the College
- 43:22Speaker 1: Football Weekend. Coming up, the last time, the last weekend
- 43:27Speaker 1: that the guys got together was me, Chad, and Clay.
- 43:30Speaker 1: 2022 in Knoxville for Tennessee and Alabama. I say the
- 43:35Speaker 1: last time we came to a game together like this.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Those house parties.
- 43:39Speaker 1: This ends up in the back of the bed of
- 43:41Speaker 1: a pickup truck with Clay tearing up. You'll see the
- 43:44Speaker 1: video of it next here on Hutton Withrow. Andy Withrow,
- 43:49Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock. Bet, Chad's top ten, a perfect ten.
- 43:53Speaker 1: This has been a perfect ten venue here.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 43:56Speaker 2: For sure, with Tennessee Shine Company. Fantastic. And they're open
- 44:02Speaker 2: early for us as we broadcast live in Gatlinburg.
- 44:04Speaker 7: I mean, the activity– I know you've got to get
- 44:06Speaker 7: to a read. But the activity already on this strip
- 44:09Speaker 7: here in Gatlinburg. And, you know, one quick observation. I've seen–
- 44:13Speaker 7: The most ink I've ever seen as far as tattoos
- 44:16Speaker 7: on people in Germany.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Germany, everybody's got tattoos. What a great point. Gatlinburg. Is
- 44:22Speaker 2: it number two? I think they've got Germany B. Oh, no,
- 44:24Speaker 2: they're number one. New power ranking.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Power ranking is a perfect 10 for perfect 10. Morgan's
- 44:29Speaker 1: the name says it all. Apply in 10 minutes. Close
- 44:31Speaker 1: in 10 days. The whole idea here at Morgan's is simple, fast,
- 44:34Speaker 1: and fair. 10 minutes start to finish right from your phone.
- 44:36Speaker 1: No stack of paperwork. No sitting across the desk from
- 44:39Speaker 1: a banker who's talking down to you. like LT talks
- 44:42Speaker 1: down to Brown. Checking your options, it's not going to
- 44:45Speaker 1: dig your credit score. And you can talk to a human. Yes,
- 44:47Speaker 1: you can actually talk to a real, alive, breathing person.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Call and you get a real loan officer, not a
- 44:53Speaker 1: phone tree here. And we do it just for fun.
- 44:56Speaker 1: We call just to talk to humans nowadays instead of
- 44:58Speaker 1: talking to the AI version.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Of Jacob Lutz.
- 45:01Speaker 1: If you're buying new construction, ask about the builder program, perfect10mortgage. com, 855-789-1010.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Love the phone numbers with Clay.
- 45:07Speaker 5: 855-789-1010.
- 45:10Speaker 1: That's perfect10mortgage. com. It was my second favorite weekend ever in
- 45:17Speaker 1: college sports. My first was Alabama being upset by A &
- 45:21Speaker 1: M in College Station, my only time to College Station.
- 45:24Speaker 1: My second favorite was 2022 with Chad Withrow, Alan Bean,
- 45:30Speaker 1: and Clay Travis. I've got the photo of it, I believe.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And our group went into it. They were so nervous
- 45:36Speaker 1: about it because they haven't seen Tennessee win in this moment.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Over Bama. I don't think Clay's balls had dropped the
- 45:42Speaker 2: last time you saw Tennessee win.
- 45:44Speaker 1: You're about to see why you're about to tell the story,
- 45:45Speaker 1: but you're right. And I went in there, I'm like, guys,
- 45:49Speaker 1: Tennessee's got this. Ends up being an incredible game. Best
- 45:52Speaker 1: game I've seen from a quarterback on a losing perspective.
- 45:55Speaker 4: It was the best quarterback performance in Alabama football history in.
- 45:58Speaker 2: A single game. It was insane, man. What a classic.
- 46:00Speaker 7: And you think, like, maybe the best weapon right now
- 46:03Speaker 7: in football in Jameer Gibbs drops the pass over the middle. Like,
- 46:07Speaker 7: he catches that 99 out of 100 times.
- 46:09Speaker 1: It ends up with the field storming and the goal post.
- 46:13Speaker 1: I mean, just a massive crowd. It's what you want
- 46:15Speaker 1: whenever you're a kid watching college game day. And we're watching.
- 46:19Speaker 1: They were contemplating going down and doing this because Clay's like,
- 46:23Speaker 1: what do I do? Because he's so happy. He's taking photos.
- 46:27Speaker 1: We stay up and we just watch the mayhem. But
- 46:29Speaker 1: the goalpost, it looks like a beehive or an anthill.
- 46:34Speaker 1: You know, they're protecting the queen. They're marching this, you know,
- 46:38Speaker 1: to the.
- 46:39Speaker 7: See, this is why people think we're crazy. You know,
- 46:43Speaker 7: my girlfriend's brother had a wedding two weeks ago. And,
- 46:45Speaker 7: you know, fall weddings are off limits.
- 46:47Speaker 2: You can't do that.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Right.
- 46:49Speaker 2: And, you know, they're from California. And she's like.
- 46:53Speaker 7: You guys, like, for anybody to scream at a TV
- 46:56Speaker 7: over a football game is insane.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Don't move down here. We have grown men that cry,
- 47:00Speaker 2: and I get it. And it's uniquely American, you know,
- 47:02Speaker 2: college football. That's right. It's incredible. Like, you know, you've
- 47:05Speaker 2: got your priorities, you know, God, family, football. I mean,
- 47:09Speaker 2: it's all right there. Some put it in that order.
- 47:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:12Speaker 2: I mean, again, Bama, Bama, church, right?
- 47:15Speaker 1: Hey, but it ends up, we end up in the
- 47:17Speaker 1: bed of a pickup truck because we're about to go
- 47:19Speaker 1: back to our Airbnb. And Ubers, you just can't get
- 47:23Speaker 1: to them, right? You can't find a car. Well, we're
- 47:26Speaker 1: walking out. Clay and Chad were like, let's go out
- 47:29Speaker 1: this back area where we maybe have a catch one
- 47:32Speaker 1: coming through on accident. And we get to an area
- 47:35Speaker 1: where it's blocked off and they won't let us walk
- 47:37Speaker 1: through an empty lot to get through and go where
- 47:40Speaker 1: we're supposed to be. It's literally here. They want us
- 47:42Speaker 1: to walk all the way back around the stadium. Well,
- 47:44Speaker 1: there's a pickup truck that pulls down for no reason.
- 47:47Speaker 1: And Clay's like, how much to just get the– we'll
- 47:50Speaker 1: just leave with you. How much to take us back home? And,
- 47:54Speaker 1: you know, the guy becomes our Uber driver. We end
- 47:56Speaker 1: up at the bed of a pickup truck going back
- 47:58Speaker 1: to our Airbnb, and I pull out the phone and.
- 48:01Speaker 2: I ask Clay, hey, you just beat Alabama. What are
- 48:06Speaker 2: you thinking about? And here it is. Clay, you were
- 48:10Speaker 2: tearing up at the end. I cried.
- 48:12Speaker 6: I mean, that's how much it meant to me. I–
- 48:15Speaker 6: It's embarrassing to be 43 years old and cry at
- 48:17Speaker 6: the result of a football game, but I'll.
- 48:18Speaker 5: Tell you this.
- 48:20Speaker 6: When Tennessee in 1990 lost to Alabama, I was thinking
- 48:23Speaker 6: about this when I was watching. I was with my
- 48:25Speaker 6: grandpa who played for General Nealon in the 1930s.
- 48:28Speaker 2: He's going to cry again.
- 48:30Speaker 5: Cry.
- 48:31Speaker 6: Cry.
- 48:31Speaker 3: I was watching the game with him.
- 48:32Speaker 6: Cry. I was watching the game with him. Tennessee was
- 48:35Speaker 6: supposed to beat Alabama. They didn't ever beat Alabama when
- 48:36Speaker 6: I was a kid. And 1990, Tennessee was trying to
- 48:42Speaker 6: field goal.
- 48:43Speaker 2: It got blocked.
- 48:44Speaker 6: Alabama recovered and made a field goal to win 9-6.
- 48:49Speaker 2: And I cried after that game.
- 48:51Speaker 6: And I was at my grandpa's house in Chattanooga, Tennessee,
- 48:56Speaker 6: Red Bank to be specific. And he was so disappointed
- 49:00Speaker 6: in me that I cried about a team, about Tennessee losing.
- 49:04Speaker 6: And he said, you know, you don't cry about losing
- 49:06Speaker 6: football games.
- 49:07Speaker 2: But I'm probably going to cry here.
- 49:10Speaker 6: When Tennessee, when that kick was not good, And then
- 49:13Speaker 6: Tennessee made the kick to win.
- 49:16Speaker 2: I thought back to being 11 years old.
- 49:20Speaker 6: And I felt like it was almost like cosmic and
- 49:24Speaker 6: karmic justice that Tennessee made that kick after Alabama missed it.
- 49:27Speaker 6: It took me back to being 11 years old in
- 49:30Speaker 6: my grandpa's house in Red Bank, Tennessee, who played for
- 49:34Speaker 6: General Neal in the 1930s.
- 49:37Speaker 2: What a fucking win. Sorry. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Cigars are next.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Yes, definitely. So he's with his grandfather. He's just like,
- 49:48Speaker 1: I can't believe it. He cries at the end. That
- 49:51Speaker 1: is the fabric of college football.
- 49:54Speaker 7: Did Clay's grandfather come up with the acronym D-PAP?
- 49:58Speaker 2: No, I think it was S-PAP. My God, Clay. Alabama
- 50:05Speaker 2: fans killed him for that video. It's so funny. But
- 50:08Speaker 2: that was, I mean, I ended up not going in
- 50:11Speaker 2: the stadium. We had tickets. And I remember we were downtown.
- 50:14Speaker 2: We were staying at an Airbnb in Knoxville. And we
- 50:16Speaker 2: ended up coming to y'all's house that Friday and Saturday night. Oh,
- 50:19Speaker 2: that's right. It was a lot of fun.
- 50:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 2: And I did the same thing.
- 50:22Speaker 7: I paid, like, this college student, here's $ 100.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Will you take us to this house? Yeah, yeah. Well,
- 50:28Speaker 2: that was the random guy on the couch then. Oh, okay.
- 50:29Speaker 2: It was.
- 50:30Speaker 5: It was.
- 50:31Speaker 7: The atmosphere was so good, I didn't want to go
- 50:34Speaker 7: in the stadium, if that makes any sense. Because being
- 50:37Speaker 7: at these bars with all of these Tennessee students, it
- 50:40Speaker 7: was just incredible. It's one of the best college football
- 50:43Speaker 7: games I've ever just watched.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 50:45Speaker 1: See, I don't have that feeling. I went to a very,
- 50:49Speaker 1: not a small school, but a program with MTSU, the
- 50:53Speaker 1: Blue Raiders. They don't give you that. I don't have that.
- 50:57Speaker 1: So I don't have the SEC vibes and just the
- 50:59Speaker 1: diehard moments. I grew up watching the Vols. I was
- 51:03Speaker 1: a fan, but now it's just like I root for
- 51:05Speaker 1: the storyline more than I root for the score, just
- 51:07Speaker 1: based on what we do. So I'm jealous of that,
- 51:10Speaker 1: but at the same time, it allows me to just
- 51:12Speaker 1: kind of observe. That was awesome. Everybody that is a fan,
- 51:19Speaker 1: you're a diehard. That is college football.
- 51:21Speaker 7: I wonder how many Southerners have cried tears over it,
- 51:24Speaker 7: because this is pathetic too, but I'm a big And
- 51:27Speaker 7: people love this brand when I bring up the Rams
- 51:29Speaker 7: on our show.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Right.
- 51:30Speaker 7: I'm like, it's my third child. Like I am just
- 51:33Speaker 7: the biggest Rams fan you could ever imagine. And there's
- 51:36Speaker 7: only been a couple of times where I've teared up,
- 51:38Speaker 7: but I literally have when they beat Tom Brady in
- 51:41Speaker 7: the divisional game, when it was just the back and
- 51:43Speaker 7: forth and Cooper cup catches it. And Matt Gay kicks
- 51:46Speaker 7: the walk off and they end up going to the
- 51:47Speaker 7: NFC championship. That was such an emotional rollercoaster for me. Like, Again, we're,
- 51:53Speaker 7: I mean, it's pathetic, but our priorities, like football, if
- 51:57Speaker 7: you have a team, I mean, people get divorced over
- 52:01Speaker 7: their teams. You know, we used to make a running joke,
- 52:02Speaker 7: like people would hand their wives, like if Nick Saban
- 52:05Speaker 7: had sex.
- 52:06Speaker 2: With your wife, you'd be like, we'll offer her up.
- 52:09Speaker 2: I mean, this is the.
- 52:10Speaker 7: Kind of stuff that SEC fans do.
- 52:14Speaker 1: No wonder so many people are cuckolds. Yeah, this is
- 52:17Speaker 1: college football way. Hey, coming up, the opposite of that.
- 52:20Speaker 1: There used to be Titans fans. There used to be.
- 52:23Speaker 1: There's no accountability now with those who are running the team,
- 52:27Speaker 1: Burke Nihill and others, and ownership. This guy speaks for ownership.
- 52:31Speaker 1: I want to compare that to the SEC and the
- 52:33Speaker 1: accountability that we see at certain programs versus others. In
- 52:38Speaker 1: college football, you're paid to fail. If you fail, you're
- 52:40Speaker 1: getting the buyout. In the NFL, if the owner wants
- 52:44Speaker 1: to speak, they will. They don't have to. It's their team.
- 52:46Speaker 1: But if somebody does want to speak on behalf of ownership,
- 52:48Speaker 1: they're paid to do that. They're not doing that. And
- 52:51Speaker 1: you're getting a $ 2. 1 billion dome. I want to see
- 52:54Speaker 1: who lines up with what the Titans are the example
- 52:57Speaker 1: of versus the teams that just own it, the coaches
- 53:00Speaker 1: who just own it. That's straight ahead here on Hutton & Withrow.
- 53:04Speaker 2: It's Hutton & Withrow. We are presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 53:08Speaker 2: And maybe you need to be represented. Maybe not.
- 53:11Speaker 1: But remember, if you do, you're going to Clay Travis Law. Accidents,
- 53:14Speaker 1: they don't wait for great timing. One bad moment, a wreck,
- 53:17Speaker 1: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly, you're
- 53:20Speaker 1: fighting an insurance company who does this every single day.
- 53:23Speaker 1: And that's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a
- 53:25Speaker 1: veteran law grab. He built a firm around the idea
- 53:27Speaker 1: of people deserving someone willing to pay attention and ask
- 53:30Speaker 1: the hard questions and push back when things don't add up.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Experienced trial attorneys who bring the fight to corporations and
- 53:36Speaker 1: insurers based in Nashville, trusted across the country, car and
- 53:40Speaker 1: truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, premise liability, product liability.

- 53:49Speaker 2: 877-222-4444. I can say that fast, slow. You will remember it. 877-222-4444.
- 53:55Speaker 1: That's claytravislaw.com. Guys, accountability in the SEC. Be thinking about
- 54:04Speaker 1: this because where you think certain programs are, coaches, just overall,
- 54:09Speaker 1: like athletic directors, those running the show. Because in Nashville,
- 54:15Speaker 1: it is a just– Chetro?
- 54:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. There you go. It's bad. It's bad.
- 54:24Speaker 7: Can I ask you this before you get to your point?
- 54:26Speaker 7: I would love your perspective. Well, you know, I was
- 54:29Speaker 7: a big Cam Ward fan. I thought Cam Ward was
- 54:31Speaker 7: much better than Carson back last year, although they played
- 54:34Speaker 7: for a national championship. I just don't... I continue to
- 54:38Speaker 7: hear people say they've got to reset a quarterback, and
- 54:40Speaker 7: I'm like, this thing has been so mismanaged. Like, what
- 54:44Speaker 7: does Cam Ward have around him? I can't tell whether
- 54:47Speaker 7: or not he's going to be good or bad, because
- 54:49Speaker 7: it's such a mess right now. Like, where are you
- 54:53Speaker 7: on them resetting at quarterback? I mean, I would blow
- 54:55Speaker 7: it all up. I would blow it up. If I'm
- 54:58Speaker 7: Amy Adams-Struck, she has 66% of the team. She's the
- 55:01Speaker 7: controlling owner. I would try to find a Tom Brady
- 55:05Speaker 7: for 11%. She should still be the controlling owner. Get Saban,
- 55:09Speaker 7: get Peyton, something, and have a football person running the organization.
- 55:13Speaker 7: Right now, you've got a lawyer running the organization. It
- 55:16Speaker 7: is Titans entertainment. It is not Titans football because of
- 55:18Speaker 7: the dome. Everything under the roof.
- 55:20Speaker 1: It's about the first event in the stadium in February,
- 55:23Speaker 1: not about the kickoff next week.
- 55:25Speaker 2: They suck. They are as bad as they've ever been.
- 55:27Speaker 1: They were trying to say going into week one, this.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Is our floor.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Well, unfortunately, the floor has a parking garage underneath it.
- 55:34Speaker 1: And it is pathetic, man. It is really, really bad.
- 55:38Speaker 1: They are the worst, just the four biggest pro sports
- 55:41Speaker 1: teams they right now are being represented to a point
- 55:45Speaker 1: where they are at the lowest of the low.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Well, what's crazy, I'm a lifelong Dolphins fan, and we
- 55:52Speaker 4: admittedly are in a rebuild. I mean, like, we got
- 55:54Speaker 4: rid of everybody. We're trying to work off Tua's contract.
- 55:57Speaker 4: We're paying him to throw interceptions for the Falcons instead
- 56:00Speaker 4: of throwing interceptions for us.
- 56:01Speaker 2: The key word is admittedly. Admittedly, yeah.
- 56:04Speaker 4: Going into the season, everybody knew the Dolphins were going
- 56:06Speaker 4: to suck. Everybody knew that, right? They got rid of Waddell.
- 56:08Speaker 4: They got rid of Tua, Bradley Chubb. I mean, everybody.
- 56:12Speaker 4: And we're better than the Titans. I mean, that's just
- 56:14Speaker 4: that's crazy to me. Like we do an NFL power
- 56:17Speaker 4: rating every week. And I was the first one to
- 56:19Speaker 4: move the Titans in front. And now Jim and Lance
- 56:21Speaker 4: both have or excuse me, move the Dolphins in front
- 56:23Speaker 4: of the Titans. I mean, it's the Titans are the
- 56:26Speaker 4: worst team in the NFL. They are the worst team
- 56:27Speaker 4: in the NFL.
- 56:28Speaker 7: And Brown was asking, you know, Richard, our buddy Richard
- 56:31Speaker 7: that's here because he's a Nashville like. You go to
- 56:34Speaker 7: Titans game. He's like, no, man, you can get you
- 56:36Speaker 7: get tickets. Literally, you can pick them up on the
- 56:39Speaker 7: ground right now.
- 56:39Speaker 2: To trade a bag of peanuts.
- 56:41Speaker 7: And he said, I will go in the new stadiums built.
- 56:44Speaker 7: And that's kind of the sad mentality of people that
- 56:47Speaker 7: are in Nashville.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Like, I'm going to wait for this venue. It shouldn't
- 56:49Speaker 2: be about the venue. The venue is great. Again, being
- 56:51Speaker 2: a Rams fan so far is like the most incredible
- 56:53Speaker 2: thing I've ever been to.
- 56:55Speaker 7: But it shouldn't be about that. You should be able
- 56:57Speaker 7: to go to an absolute shithole to watch your favorite team.
- 57:00Speaker 7: But there is zero buzz when it comes to this
- 57:02Speaker 7: Titans organization.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Again, they're struggling to sell out their PSLs to the fans.
- 57:09Speaker 1: They've lost the connection to the fans. That's hard to do.
- 57:12Speaker 1: They can get it back. They're great. They're sold out
- 57:15Speaker 1: on the PSLs and the suites and the big money
- 57:17Speaker 1: tickets and the corporate guys.
- 57:18Speaker 2: Right. The Hollywood entertainers. That's the low-hanging fruit, though, really.
- 57:23Speaker 2: They've got that.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Now, the fabric, they just don't talk to them. And
- 57:30Speaker 1: speaking and holding a presser, doing an interview, it's not
- 57:33Speaker 1: going to change the team, but it'll change the perception
- 57:35Speaker 1: and the direction. I thought of this, like, Elko and
- 57:38Speaker 1: how he's at the podium. And it's not a fireable offense,
- 57:43Speaker 1: the whole cesspool thing, but it's the fan base you're
- 57:46Speaker 1: talking about, right? Meanwhile, Shane Beamer and how he's handled
- 57:49Speaker 1: that at South Carolina. He's just said that he's owned it.
- 57:53Speaker 1: And you see the team come back and he stays
- 57:55Speaker 1: and that they, they go down and get a big
- 57:56Speaker 1: win at Florida.
- 57:57Speaker 2: I did not expect the way that game. Not at all.
- 58:00Speaker 1: I think that that doesn't get enough credit in how
- 58:03Speaker 1: that has played out, even though they get to go
- 58:06Speaker 1: to the, no, they're not going to go to the
- 58:08Speaker 1: playoff SEC championship. No, but the fact that they did
- 58:11Speaker 1: that in this day and age is really, is not remarkable,
- 58:15Speaker 1: but it should be commended. Oh, if you took us
- 58:18Speaker 1: back a week, I mean, it was one of the
- 58:19Speaker 1: things we talked about when we were previewing all the
- 58:21Speaker 1: Saturday games last week.
- 58:23Speaker 7: And, you know, my thought was, will they at least
- 58:25Speaker 7: show up? Another, you know, just heartbreaking loss. You're up
- 58:29Speaker 7: 17 against Kentucky. They walk it off with a two-point conversion. Like,
- 58:33Speaker 7: are they even competitive in this game? To me, that
- 58:36Speaker 7: has been the most shocking outcome of any SEC game
- 58:39Speaker 7: we've seen this year.
- 58:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:40Speaker 7: I mean, you know, at the end of the day,
- 58:43Speaker 7: it doesn't really matter that outcome, South Carolina, Florida. But
- 58:46Speaker 7: for those guys to show up, for Lenore Sellers to
- 58:48Speaker 7: play his best game of the year.
- 58:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 58:50Speaker 7: I mean, it shows you they do have a commitment
- 58:52Speaker 7: to Shane Beamer. And I don't think he was going
- 58:54Speaker 7: to get fired anyway when you started to see the numbers.
- 58:56Speaker 7: I mean, that is the difference in the NFL and college. Like,
- 58:59Speaker 7: sometimes these cash-strapped programs in Brown, what was the number?
- 59:02Speaker 7: South Carolina's in.
- 59:03Speaker 2: Debt right now. Oh, it's a ton of money.
- 59:05Speaker 3: They can't fire him.
- 59:06Speaker 4: They've got the bond. that 10-year bond that's coming to you.
- 59:11Speaker 4: So that's going to prevent them probably from firing Beamer.
- 59:14Speaker 1: So it's now the dilemma across football especially. Can you
- 59:18Speaker 1: afford to fire them or can you afford to keep them?
- 59:21Speaker 2: That's right, yeah. can you go the future of your program?
- 59:23Speaker 2: Can it, or can you afford to keep the company?
- 59:25Speaker 4: See, but now in the world we live in Hutton
- 59:28Speaker 4: is you can make an argument, which some people were
- 59:30Speaker 4: starting to make this argument with Norvell.
- 59:32Speaker 2: All right, let's keep him in.
- 59:34Speaker 4: Instead of throwing a bunch of money into a buyout,
- 59:36Speaker 4: let's throw that into resources. Let's put that into NIL.
- 59:40Speaker 4: Right now, here's where you run into the problem. If
- 59:42Speaker 4: you're a big power booster, say for South Carolina or
- 59:45Speaker 4: Florida state, what's the easier sell for me? Hey man, um,
- 59:48Speaker 4: can you cut me a $ 10 million check so we
- 59:50Speaker 4: can get more players? Or, hey, can you cut me
- 59:51Speaker 4: a $ 10 million check so I can get rid of
- 59:53Speaker 4: this coach? They're always going to want to get rid
- 59:55Speaker 4: of the coach.
- 59:56Speaker 2: It's emotional because they want to get rid of the
- 59:58Speaker 2: coach because they've already paid for the players. That's right.
- 59:59Speaker 2: They've paid for the players. And there are some examples.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: You don't have the patience because of the money these
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: guys are making right now. But Tony Elliott last year
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: in year five plays for the ACC championship.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: If they would have.
- 1:00:12Speaker 7: Won that game where they had a late lead, they
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: would have been in the college football playoff. Last couple
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: of weeks hadn't been good for Tony Elliott. But Luke
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: Fickle's another one of these guys coming into this year.
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: There was no chance he was going to survive. They're
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: four in one going out to the Rose Bowl. They're
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: a two and a half point underdog. They're going to
- 1:00:27Speaker 7: win this game. I'm going to go on to tell you,
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: hard rock bet, jump on it, play Badgers money line.
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: They will win this game and they're going to go
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: to five and one and then they're going to ultimately
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: be ranked. So there is going to be a contingent
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: out there. Hey, look, you got to give them a
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: little bit of time. Got to give them a little
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: bit of time. And for all of these, you know,
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: to each their own. But, you know, there are certain
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: situations like Mike Norvell. He ain't pulling out of this.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Look, sometimes it can be a quick trigger.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: And you're out of time because you're out of time.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: It was the right decision to get rid of the
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: coach after a year and a half because you just know.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: I'm okay with that, too.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: But in terms of the Titans, going back to the
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: original point, like they're out of time.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: It's time to speak.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: And even the person who's in charge of speaking for ownership,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: the team president, doesn't want to speak publicly.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: It's it's really really bad and it's.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: A poor example and i wanted to point out a
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: positive one you know which was was beamer a one
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: minute break just so we could get uh get ready
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: for hard rock bet we've got that coming up but
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: a brief segment when we come back of tennessee bama

- 1:02:17Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. So you used to walk through these woods, right?
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Do you think he ever got the saltwater taffy across
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: the street? I bet he got some shot. I'm sure
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: he did.
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: His favorite flavor of pancake. How many different flavors of
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: pancakes can you get?
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: All of them.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Oh, gosh. Flavor of anything of anything. You know what
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: I noticed?
- 1:02:35Speaker 7: So the first time I had ever gone to Gatlinburg,
- 1:02:37Speaker 7: I took my kids in 2021. And the one thing
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: I noticed, you can't find a vegetable in this town.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Dude, your observations are spot on.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: They really are.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: And they're wild, too. They're wild. I've been with this
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: guy forever. The observations are wild. I can't believe traffic's
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: like this. Lance, it's 9.17 in the morning. They're not
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: going to work. I don't know where they're going. Imagine
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: David Crockett. We call him David. David, very formal.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: At some point in a man's life, you have to
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: drop the line. Yeah, very formal. Was David always on horseback?
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I think, I guess so, yeah.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: I mean, there really wasn't any other transportation.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I don't think he was carried like Aladdin, you know.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: He could have been a horse and buggy, though, right?
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: I guess a horse would be included, though. Probably getting
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: a horse and buggy up these mountains.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Good luck on that.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Some poor bastard had to walk across this mountain. We're
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: going to do a road right here.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: I think about it all the time. When I'm just....
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: Not a lot, but, like, if you're driving to whatever
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: your location and you look and see how dense the
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: woods are.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: I know.
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: Like, can you imagine being the first guy? Like, I
- 1:03:43Speaker 7: would have gave up. Like, I'm going to get my
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: ass back on the ship and going back to Europe.
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and you have no idea what's in front of you.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: You know, that's why Denver's a city, right? Because they
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: got to the Rocky Mountains and they were like, this
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: will do right here.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: This will do. We're going to live here, everybody. We
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: ain't going over that.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: We're talking Daniel Boone on the way here with Lutz,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: and he was like, yeah, he's bluegrass standing like, Well,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: he just decided to stop randomly.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: He knew when to stop. Well, you have to, right?
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: That's right. You're going to give out. Yeah, but what
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: if it's better ahead? You know, I'm just saying. You
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: never know. It wasn't. You never know. On the other
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: side of the Rockies, pretty good land. What's better for Alabama?
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Is this the right matchup ahead of what was Georgia?
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Well, you know, going back before the year, you know,
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: we talked a lot about, obviously, Alabama, and we talked
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: to a lot of Alabama fans.
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: It was this four-game gauntlet that was coming up for Alabama.
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: And it began with Georgia. Nobody really realized how good
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: Mississippi State was going to be. So that looks a
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: little different. But Tennessee looked like that was going to
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: be a menacing game and one of the more difficult games.
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: And now I know they got the 14 next to them.
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: They've only got the one loss, a three-point loss to Texas.
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: It just doesn't look like the mountain that they were
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: going to have to climb before. And I think a
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: lot of it is just the quarterback position right now.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: So let's give our picks for Tennessee and Alabama. Knoxville,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: the setting– mid-afternoon on the national broadcast, the moment, third
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Saturday in October.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Where are we going with this, bro?
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: I think it's going to be like Alabama 28-17. I
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: think Tennessee can hang in there with them, but I
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: think this Crimson Tide offense is just too good. Now,
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: Georgia found ways to slow it down, but I know
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: Tennessee's defense is good. That's an elite Georgia defense there.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: I think Keelan Russell has played well on the road
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: for the most part. He struggled a little bit early
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: against Kentucky. I think Alabama 28-17.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: I am going to say low scoring. Low, okay, take
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: the under?
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: Yeah, high pull is going to obviously try to dictate
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: tempo in this game. Alabama only three points against that
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: Georgia defense at home after scoring 45 points in their
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: first five games. I think Tennessee's defense with this atmosphere,
- 1:05:47Speaker 7: atmosphere is real. Neyland is real. When Tennessee's good, it's
- 1:05:51Speaker 7: the loudest I've ever heard. I think Deshaun Bishop running
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: the football, 2013 Alabama. I think Alabama escapes, but really,
- 1:05:58Speaker 7: really tight. George McIntyre, can he stay on time? Alabama's
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: going to set up to stop the run. Can he
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: stay on.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Time and get into a rhythm? Of course, the turnovers
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: and different things, but I think he needs a big
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: run as well. Just move the change and cash in
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: in the red zone. If he does that, this game
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: is close, very close. I think Bama, based on quarterback
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: play and just overall team, I think matchup-wise, talent for talent,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: Tennessee's got a great ability here. They don't have the
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: checkmark at quarterback. I think that gets it done. I
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: think it's 28-17, the final score.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Alabama? Alabama. Okay, we got the same score. That's probably
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: bad news for that score. I'm going to take it
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: right now. A quarterback matchup is a mismatch.
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: And McIntyre, good news is he got his first start
- 1:06:46Speaker 7: under his belt, but turned it over three times against Arkansas.
- 1:06:49Speaker 7: completely different Cain Womack defense he will see. But I've
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: just got that feeling that Tennessee will keep this game close.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: I think it's close, yes, because of the conservative nature
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: the high ball has to play with.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: It has to. And that ultimately is what you don't
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: have to do with Bama. That's what I loved about 2022,
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: going into that game, you knew it was going to
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: be a track meet. And it was.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Wide open, the full playbook. We've got some props coming up.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: And we've got plenty to discuss with Hard Rock Bet
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: and Well, NFL. We're going to cash in straight ahead.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Buddy Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet. That's a great
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: offer right now. You go to hardrock.bet.com to download the app,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: the sportsbook app, hardrock.bet.com. That will get you in for
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: the $ 5 up to $ 500 in.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: No sweat bets. You can do it going into the weekend.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Prop it like it's hot.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Prop it like it's hot on this Friday. Get ready
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: for the NFL weekend and more. Guys, I've got plenty across.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: I always go with a Derrick Henry anytime touchdown. I
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: say that.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: We don't have to show that.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: That's perpetual. Yeah, it's perpetual. The odds of him scoring
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: two in a game are like plus 200.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: That's nuts just to get two touchdowns in the NFL.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: But I'm going that in the NFL this week with
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor as well. He's going to have at least
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: two touchdowns rushing. Give me Cam Ward under 202 yards passing.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: That's perpetual.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. It is under 202 yards passing. He hasn't
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: had a 300-yard game yet in his career. He had
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: 34 of them in college. And I'm taking Derrick Henry
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: under the total of rushing yards for him. I'm going
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: under total rushing yards. Again, he's still going to score
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: a touchdown. Where are you going?
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: I'm going to go to the Eagles at Carolina. Unfortunately,
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts battling a blood clot in his leg. That's
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: a little bit scary. Hopefully everything turns out OK, but
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: he's not going to play Sunday and they are already.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Down a ton on that team.
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: I'm going to take them under 14 and a half
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: team total under 14 and a half for the Eagles.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: It seems obvious they're going to struggle offensively, even though
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: Carolina's defense isn't amazing.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Well, I think they're on their fourth back running back.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Saquon's out. Smith is out. Yeah, Will Shipley. Will Shipley.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: It was his third. That was his third, right? Or
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: was he the backup?
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: It was third, yeah. Tank was the backup. Tank Bixby, yeah.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Saw him. They're a mess. That's a great one. Under
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: 14 and a half. Okay. Okay, very random on mine
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: because nobody's going to want to watch. Can we make
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: this a lock for you? The Saints and the Giants. Yeah,
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: I'll lock this.
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: Quietly, Isaiah Likely has become a big-time target for the
- 1:09:33Speaker 7: New York Giants.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: He leads the team with 33 receptions.
- 1:09:36Speaker 7: If you look at primary tight ends against this Saints defense,
- 1:09:39Speaker 7: they have averaged 60 yards receiving per game. I'm getting
- 1:09:43Speaker 7: Isaiah Likely the primary receiver right now, even over Malik Neighbors.
- 1:09:47Speaker 7: I know it's Jameis Winston. The quarterback situation scares me
- 1:09:50Speaker 7: a little bit. Although he is a veteran, he's gotten
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: a little bit better each and every week.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: But I like the over 50 receiving yards for Isaiah Likely.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I'm taking the lock. I'm playing that. My lock of
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: the week, by the way, a hard rock lock, Give
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: me the under in the total for, I've got that
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: at 41.5.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: I got it before it went to 40.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I've got Indiana, Ohio State under 41.5. Withrow is going
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Tulane in his lock. Did they win last night?
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: No, this tonight. I'm sorry, tonight. He's got plus 6.5.
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: Against Memphis. Not the money line, plus 6.5. Lance gave
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: that a groan, by the way. He is 14-1 on
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: Friday night picks.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Hey, look. Don't groan. No, I'm not saying. He is 14-1.
- 1:10:36Speaker 7: I groaned at Tulane overall right now, where this program
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: is from.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Oh, I got you. To Will Hall. They're 2-3 right now.
- 1:10:42Speaker 7: They should never be catching points at home, at least
- 1:10:46Speaker 7: from Willie Fritz to John Summerall. Now you're catching six
- 1:10:48Speaker 7: and a half against Charles Huff in year one.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: Yeah, again, you go with Withrow on this, just based
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: on the heat streak. He dominated Friday night.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: The heat streak's getting it done. He nearly said just
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: money line.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: On the game. I mean, I like Tulane tonight, too.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: I would take the 6.5.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: They've been rough this year, but I do like them tonight.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Whenever I leave town, I always think it's a Friday.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: That's why I thought yesterday was Friday.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: I'm glad it's Friday and not Saturday. Let's slow the
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: weekend down.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Tonight's going to feel like the weekend because we're going
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: to be live for Dixieland Delight Friday night. Dixieland Delight
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Friday night kicks off at 8.15 live on sportandstate.com from
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: Wagon Wheel in Knoxville. You can join us live broadcast
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: on Tonight, getting ready for Tennessee and Alabama tomorrow at Neyland.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: And shout out to Tennessee Shine.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, they've been great hosts.
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: Tennessee Shine Company right here on the main drag in Gatlinburg.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: On the Strip. I don't know what they call it,
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: the Strip, the main drag, the Gatlinburg Parkway. It is
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: a long Strip. It is a long Strip.
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: They might as well call it the Strip. We're going
- 1:11:51Speaker 7: to be here another four and a half hours, so
- 1:11:52Speaker 7: come see us. We're doing tastings all day. So I really,
- 1:11:56Speaker 7: I don't know how many flavors. I'll figure this out,
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: but I'm looking at peanut butter, caramel, coffee. Bourbon, peach, espresso. S'mores.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Cinnamon, caramel. Yeah. We've got a lot. So come try
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: whatever you want. We're going to be down here hanging out.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: They can make it taste like literally anything. Anything they want.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: If you want an old-fashioned, they can make it exactly
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: the way you want it to taste. Well, you know,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: the old-school drink till you're blind used to come from
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: the moonshine because if you drank bad shine, you could
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: literally go blind. And I remember in high school, we
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: would have people that would bring shine around. The taste, like,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: it literally was... chemical next level the worst taste ever
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: but if you wanted to get somewhere you've never been
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: drink some old school shine you think it was that
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: or they just needed lacing and they didn't.
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: Know it and maybe maybe a little little little bit
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: of both maybe hey again.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Looking forward to tonight and uh looking forward to our
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: coming up with jason swain's going to continue the conversation
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: about tennessee and alabama uh i'm glad we have him
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: on because um He is pissed off for greatness about
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: this game. He doesn't get nervous as a fan, as
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: a former player, as a broadcaster now alongside Mike Keith,
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: the voice of the Vols.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: He's in the booth as the analyst. He is pissed off.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Alabama native. Means a lot. Huntsville. Like Joey Kent. It's
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: still random.
- 1:13:11Speaker 7: I can't get my head around Mike Keith because I
- 1:13:12Speaker 7: heard him in the corner the other day against Texas.
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: I was going running errands in between, and I was like, damn,
- 1:13:18Speaker 7: it's just so weird because I heard about the Titans forever.
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Jason Swain joins us next right here on Hutton & Withrow.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: It is Hutton and Withrow from sportandstate.com presented by Hard Rock.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: Bet the Swain event joins us. Jason Swain, a part
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: of the Vol Network coverage, which begins at 1 o'clock
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: coming up on Saturday, Tennessee and Alabama, 3.30 Eastern kickoff.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: You can catch Swain each day with Josh and Swain
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: on WNML, the Sports Animal, from 12 to 3 at
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Swain event on social. Swain, what's up, man?
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: What's up, Wes?
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Pretty big game. Bama or Florida for you? What you mean?
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: When you played, who did you hate worse?
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: Oh, it's Alabama. All day long. Yeah, man.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: I mean, I didn't really have a strong hate for Florida.
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: But Alabama, I'm originally from Huntsville, Alabama.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: I had an interesting recruitment by those guys and You
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: know what?
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: So did Joey Kitt.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: Every year, man, I circle that thing on the calendar. So, man,
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: this one means everything to me. It's not a normal game.
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: I don't know why coaches keep saying that, but it's
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: not a normal game. They smoke cigars in this one
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: for a reason, right?
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: I mean, as a player, I would want an abnormal game.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: I would want this to be what it is, right?
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I know that's to keep your powder dry during the week.
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: I get it.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: But, I mean, it's not like the players don't know.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: And the fans certainly let them know. That's what makes
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: college football great. It's uniquely United States of America, the
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: college football game. And it's because of this passion.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: I mean, this game means so much to so many people. And,
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: you know, you get old school Tennessee fans. You know,
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: they tell you who they dislike the most is Alabama.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: You get some of the younger Tennessee fans, they'll tell
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: you they probably dislike Florida the most. But, This game
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: has so much rich history. Two legendary coaches involved. Coach
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: General Nealon and Paul Bear Bryant. Think about Coach Fulmer
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: and his Hall of Fame career and what he was
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: able to do. Alabama, so many great players in their history. Tennessee,
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: so many great players in our history. You've got two
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: teams that already have one loss and they're trying to
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: avoid their second loss of the season. They're trying to
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: stay in the hunt to get to the playoffs. So,
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: I mean, there's a lot riding on this game for sure.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: And you know this, but the five straight matchups now
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: with the two teams both being in the top 15,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: and that's due to Tennessee climbing the ranks once NIL opened.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: They were able to dive right in. Alabama didn't necessarily
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: do that because they had Saban. And Tennessee rose in
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: the ranks. I mean, that's credit to leadership at Tennessee
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: having the foresight to do it. but it also shows
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: where Tennessee was versus where they are. How much have
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: they closed the gap to the top? Alabama was there.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Georgia is there. I don't know if there's a dominant
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: team like we've seen in the past, but Tennessee's just
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: about there. But they've had their success at home recently
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: with Heupel against Alabama. I think the record's 1-1 against DeBoer.
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think if you ask Tennessee fans,
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: they're happy with what Hypo has been able to do
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: since he's been here. But they want more. And I
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: want more. Hypo wants more. We all want more. When
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: you look at the amount of support that our head
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: coaches get here at the University of Tennessee, they are
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: equipped with the tools to go out and win a championship.
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: So that's the goal. That's something that we're not shying
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: away from. It's not like it's something that we have
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: done a lot of since 1998. But that's why we're
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: trying to get back there. And so, yeah, the gap
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: has closed. Alabama's a really good football team. I think
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: they're a top five football team. I thought Texas was
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: a top five football team. I didn't think Texas was
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: the number one team when we played them, but I
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: thought they were a top five team with probably the
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: most talent, you know, in the country. I think Alabama
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: is a top five football team without having a top
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: talent in the country. So that tells you, you know,
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: the job that Caleb DeBoer has done, those players have done. And, man,
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: Tennessee has a hell of an opportunity, man. I mean,
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: we're talking about a defense that was one of the
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: worst in the league last year. And right now they're
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: one of the best, you know, in the country, led
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: by one of the best players in the country in
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: Xavier Gilliam. And so, man, it's a heck of an opportunity.
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: Tennessee had an opportunity to beat Texas at home. A team, again,
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: that was filled with a ton of talent. And I
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: think Tennessee let one get away. Here's an opportunity against
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: Alabama again. to kind of prove that you kind of
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: learned your lesson, you learned from your mistakes, and you
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: can fix those and go out there and try to
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: get a win against a top-five caliber football team.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: When you watch Bama now with DeBoer, is there any
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: area you point to like, okay, that's different than the
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Saban era? Have they transitioned to something at a position
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: in a way that they go about things? Have you
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: noticed anything different that, not necessarily an advantage for the Vols,
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: But it's just kind of a mix-up that has the
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: signature of DeBoer instead of Nick Saban.
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: Well, I mean, it's certainly adapted.
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: Right?
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: We're talking about Nick Saban.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Sure, oh yeah.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: You know, arguably the best of all time. I think
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: the biggest difference between last year's team with Alabama this
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: year's team is what Nick Saban's team's had.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: And that was the toughness. That greediness.
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: I mean, they're running the football better. They're stopping the run.
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: The mental toughness stuff is a little bit better. They
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: had some errors in that Georgia game, but I think
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: this is the Boers' best team because of that toughness
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: element that they bring to the table. That's something that
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: you always saw in Alabama's team. When Tennessee was able
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: to beat Alabama when Nick Saban was there in 22,
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: Tennessee brought that toughness.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: To the game.
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: That's why Tennessee was able to win you know, late
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: in that one in 2022.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: That's one of the best college football games I've watched,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: you know, like in person.
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, it's definitely one of the best, for sure.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: One of the best performances as a quarterback in a
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: loss by Young. Like, it was fantastic, man. And you
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: know what? You brought up the mental toughness. I think
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: the discipline area is where maybe Bama is not a
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: full step back, but they're certainly not going to have
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: that penalty, I don't think, if Nick Saban's the head coach.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: They're certainly going to get the flag if Nick Saban's
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: the head coach at home, too. That's where it's different
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: is that they didn't get the flag in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: That stood out to me.
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: What's also crazy, though, that 22 game, Alabama had over 120, 30,
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: 40 yards in penalties. I mean, it was an uncharacteristic
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: Nick Saban football team.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: They did it Vanderbilt that year, too.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot.
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: A lot of holes on special teams, which always puts
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: you behind the sticks and, you know, terrible field position.
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: I mean, it was rough. So that's what it's going
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: to come down to, I think, on Saturday.
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: Too, with Alabama is, you know, who can avoid those
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: first and 15s, who can avoid penalties on kickoff return
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: that starts drives inside your own 10-yard line. It's going
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: to be a lot of that, man. I know Tennessee's
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: offense hasn't been great this year, but I anticipate Tennessee's
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: game plan is to try to bring Alabama to the
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: mud a little bit and make this thing low-scoring as possible.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Is that their path? Is that the conservative football, run
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: the football, make things low-scoring, you said, but it was
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: conservative against Arkansas as well. Is that what they're going
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: to have to do right now, do the quarterback spot?
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: Well, I've told myself that we were overlooking Auburn and
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: Arkansas for Alabama because the last two performances offensively, have
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: not been up to the standard that I know Josh
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: Heupel has set out being a guy that, offense coordinator minded,
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: former quarterback. I know he wants to score a lot
- 1:21:43Speaker 5: of points, but you know, you got to compliment your defense. Well,
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: you got to put them in really good situations. And
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: I think the end of the Arkansas game, Tennessee found some,
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: some explosive plays and this team can run the football.
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: They don't have to go score 50 points. They don't
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: have to, They'll go fast with the tempo. But they
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: do have to be able to throw the ball when
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: it's time to throw the ball. And that's something that
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: they didn't do against Texas, but you're going to have
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: to do against Alabama. It's going to be third and six.
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: It's going to be third and seven, and maybe even
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: third and nine. You've got to be able to push
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: the ball beyond the sticks, and you've got to have
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: some explosive plays. Tennessee was able to do that a
- 1:22:22Speaker 5: couple times against Arkansas. I understand the opponent.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Clearly.
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: But those are the plays that I think Tennessee will
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: have to make against Alabama.
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: If they expect to win.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's not like they can't have a turnover,
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: but they can't lose the turnover battle, right? And they
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: need to capitalize if the defense gets the ball back
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: to them, capitalize without a field goal, but punch it
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: in the end zone. That's how they win this game, right?
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you've got to win the turnover.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you've got to win it. I mean,
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: I think there's so much respect given to that Alabama offense.
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: I know they're probably going to be without their most
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: explosive receiver on the outside, Ryan Coleman-Williams, but Keelan Russell
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: is special, and I think he's going to have to
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: give your offense extra possessions. Maybe it comes with special
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: teams where you can be able to make a big play.
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: We saw that in the Texas game with Clay Moss.
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: Got a lot of confidence in Jim Knowles. We saw
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: him give Arch Manning some trouble, and Arch Manning is
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: a guy who's played multiple years in college football, and
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: Keelan Russell, this is his first year playing as a starter.
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: So he's going to make plays. He's a fantastic player.
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: He's a great player.
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: But I like what Jim Knowles is doing defensively, and
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: I like the fact that we have the most disruptive
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: player in college football up front.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: Yeah, man. And Xavier Gilliam. And Alabama has some.
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: Questions there with their offensive line. So we can't turn
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: the football over. We can't have pre-snap penalties. We can't
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: have penalties that push our draws back because we just
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: haven't been great offensively.
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: We haven't been explosive. That's more on Alabama's side.
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: But if we just take the game plan we had
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: against Texas, clean up some things, Bring those guys to
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: the mud a little bit. Let your crowd work for you.
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: Let your defense work for you. Special teams, you come
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: out and play well. This thing could be interesting in
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: the fourth quarter.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: Yeah, no doubt, man.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Defensively, there are a lot of talk in the offseason
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: about how long it takes to get this defensive system
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: in place and up and running. The Penn State transfers
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: have been huge in this. How crucial have they been?
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: How have they played?
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: Yeah, they've been amazing. I mean, I'm talking about Knocking
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: the ball out of the park and going three for three.
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: I mean, Amari Campbell at linebacker, Xavier Gilliam there, you know,
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: defensive front. And then Dajon Lane is a playmaker machine.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: And crazy to think that he was, you know, behind
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: Edris Farouk at one point. I mean, my goodness, Edris
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: Farouk was probably playing like Ed Reed during fall camp
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: to be, you know, behind Farouk. So, yeah. Yeah, man,
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: those guys have played great. And kudos to Jim Knowles.
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: I think he identified himself. I've done some self-scouting. It
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: does take a little bit longer for my guys to
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: have a strong understanding of the system and start fast
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: and play fast.
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: Without thinking too much. And he made some tweaks.
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: I think him bringing several guys with him from Penn
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: State was important, too. Some of those guys mentioned the
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: fact that their first time working with Jim Knowles at
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: Penn State, they were learning like the players were learning.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: So it's really hard to teach when you're learning too.
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: Now those guys have been able to teach our players
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: rather than learn with the players.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: I think that's made a big difference.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: You mentioned trying not to look ahead over Auburn or Arkansas,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: but I do want to look ahead. Tennessee gets this game, Swag.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: What does this set up for the finish of the season?
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: And what do they have in front of them? Where
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: do you think they are in the top 10? And
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: what does that mean for this program?
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: Man, it's hard to even think beyond that.
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: The week that you're currently in, in this conference because.
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: I know, yeah.
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: Everybody can be had.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: You're right.
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: Man, you get your butt beat, man. I mean, look
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: around the league so far this year. It's a week-to-week leave.
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: Excuse me, it's a week-to-week season.
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: Yeah. I think for Tennessee. So, yeah, you win against Alabama.
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: That's great. We smoked cigars.
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: But as soon as that thing burns out, you got
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: to turn around and you got to play South Carolina,
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: a team that went on the road and smacked Florida.
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: And then you got to play a Kentucky team. that
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: has a head coach that has everyone believing, and they
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: got one of the best offensive lines in the country, too. So,
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: I mean, you're good for a week, but you can
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: beat Alabama and then lose next week or lose this
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: week and win next week. It's just crazy how this
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: league has been this year.
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: Oh, but it would be.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Great to hand Alabama a second loss, right?
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: I mean, you can do that. I'm all for that.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: Yeah, LSU's got theirs. Now if you catch a second,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: you've still got the win. To me, you've got the
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: resume if you're right there with Bama for the college
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: football playoff. That would be massive in terms of the storyline. Hey,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: what's your favorite play call so far from Mike Keith
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: standing next to him in the booth? I was with
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: him for a while with Titans Radio. I've got several,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: but I'm curious early on what stands out to you.
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: Well, every time... Every time there's a sack, I get excited.
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: I mean, come on, man. That's everybody's favorite, right? When
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: he yells sack.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: I don't think people realize how animated he gets when
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: he does that.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: I mean, he gets it. There is a different person
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: coming out of him whenever he does that.
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: It's great.
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: Yeah, that's my favorite. Hopefully, I have a new one
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: this week. Hopefully, we're able to make some big plays
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: on offense and he gives us gives us a new one. But, man,
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: right now it's sack because, man, it's a game-changing play.
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: It can change the trajectory of the game. And, man,
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: it's just cool as hell hearing him yell it.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: It's awesome, man. It's awesome. Ask him why he does
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: the sack that way.
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: He's got a good story.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: I won't ruin it.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: I will.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Even if he's got time on air. That's a great story.
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll ask him.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: Swain, are you into the jerseys, the uniforms being the solids?
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I hate it. I didn't like the throwback to Nealon.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: I think if you're going to honor Nealon, put the
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: power T on the side of the helmet. I think
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: the uniforms will look better as Tennessee. Personal opinion. I
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: like the old school throwbacks. Bama's not going to do that.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: You're going to have certain programs that are not going
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: to change things up. I wouldn't do it either.
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: The gray ones I have no problem with. Listen, it
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: ain't for me.
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: I know. It ain't about me. But Alabama wearing their
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: home uniforms on our field.
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: I love that.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: That's a great point.
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: Well, that's what I thought she was talking about. Well,
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: I am.
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: I am.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: They're trying to sell this color battle or whatever.
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: I think it's going to look cool, but I get
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: what you're saying. Yeah, I'm not for that. I don't
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: like Alabama. I don't like anything about them. So I
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: don't want to see crimson. The less of it, the better.
- 1:29:13Speaker 5: So I know their white uniforms, they have like a
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: little bit in their numbers. I don't even want to
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: see that. So I don't want to see any crimson,
- 1:29:24Speaker 5: let alone the home uniform be worn here. It's out
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: of our stadium. So I know, again, it's not for me.
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: It's not to please me. But I don't like Crimson.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: I don't like Alabama. I don't want to see it.
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: So I know Alabama fans probably feel the same way
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: about our Orange when we play down there next year.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: And that's good. That's good. I like it that they
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: don't like us because I don't like them. And that's
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: the way it's supposed to be in this rivalry. No doubt, man.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: And final thing, who's a player that you've mentored, you're
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: close with on the roster? I'm sure there's a receiver
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: that you're tight with. Who stands out to you and why? Well,
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: my guy, Mike Matthews. That's my guy right there.
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: And I'm so proud of him because we're talking about
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: a guy who was a basketball player in high school,
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: played football because he was really, really good at it.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: Some schools recruited him to play safety. Some play receiver,
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: to play receiver.
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: But he fell in love with, Tennessee because of that
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: 2022 offense.
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: He's gotten here.
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: As a freshman, you go through those low times where
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: you think you should be playing. Maybe you should, but
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: you're not. You get really frustrated. Last year was his
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: first year being a starter in 2025. Played a little
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: bit in 24 as a freshman. Then he had some drops.
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: Had some big plays, but also had some drops. This offseason,
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: he put the work in. Changed his body. His mentality
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: just went to a different level. And right now he's
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: been Tennessee's most explosive player. And Tennessee's offensive staff has
- 1:31:00Speaker 5: found a way to get him the ball because he's
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: so explosive. He's so dynamic. He runs angry. Plays with
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: unbelievable effort. He blocks his ass off. I'm a big
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: fan of Mike Matthews. And, man, Scott's the limit for him.
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: He's just getting started. So that's my guy right there, man.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: That's great. I'll just– How does Hypo handle the quarterback
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: situation when both are ready to play? How delicate of
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: a spot is that when it comes to young players? And,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: you know, the hot hand's the hot hand, but you
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: also want to put the starter back in. Again, I
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: don't know the mentality there based on how things went down.
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: The media loves stuff like this, right?
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: The quarterback battle.
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: I do.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: But to me, I didn't hear about the injury even
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: at the halftime break.
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: So I'm thinking, like, okay, I guess they took him
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: out and they won the game because of that decision.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: But he was hurt. Turns out he was hurt. So
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: I'm thinking, like, is there in the back of your mind, oh,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: if I play a certain way, it's a quick trigger,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: here comes George. I mean, it's a back-and-forth deal that,
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: I don't know, Heupel's pretty good at managing the quarterbacks.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: We've seen that in the past with Hooker and everybody else. But, like,
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: how does he approach this one? Because they've gone out
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: of their way to make sure that Faison is well
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: portrayed as injured now, but he wasn't on the injury report.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, Milton and Hooker, it made it easy
- 1:32:38Speaker 5: because those guys were best friends, right?
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: Great point, yeah.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: They were best friends. They were roommates, I would say,
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: at some point. They were boys. They still are. And
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: this is different.
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: I'm not saying that Faison and George are not cool
- 1:32:53Speaker 5: or friends or whatever. But those guys were tight. It
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: all works itself out when you're doing your job and
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: playing well. The moment you don't play well, then it
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: gets a little murky. And for Josh Heupel, you went
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: with Faison because Faison rightfully– was the better quarterback in
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: fall camp.
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: And during spring, he won the job.
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: And when the competition got a little harder, you know,
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: there was some signs that, Oh, you know, we got,
- 1:33:22Speaker 5: we got, we got to make sure that, you know,
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: we put them in position to be successful.
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: Everybody else is doing their job.
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: And Texas game came around and, uh, you know, it
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: just wasn't seeing the field as you would like him to,
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: to see it. And then he got hurt and kudos
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: to him for getting back out there, being a warrior,
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: you know, playing, giving his all for Tennessee. Um, And
- 1:33:43Speaker 5: so the Auburn game came around, and it was time
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: for George to get his chance. Number one, he was healthy.
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: Number two, when he came in in the Auburn game,
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: he did a good job. And so I thought he.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: Earned that right.
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: And then the Arkansas game came along, and I thought
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: he played well enough to continue to get that right
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: to go out there and start. So he wasn't perfect.
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: There's things he could have done better. There's some things
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: that people around him could have done better. Faison has
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: to practice, though, consistently. What you can't expect is for
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: a young player to not practice each and every day
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: and take mental reps and then expect him to go
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: out there on Saturdays and play well. That doesn't happen.
- 1:34:30Speaker 5: Older players can do that. Experienced players can do that,
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: not young players. And so until Faison is practicing consistently
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: and he's looking good and he's making all the reads
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: and he's improving, then I don't really think this is
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: much of a question, in my opinion. I think George
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: is your guy until George is not. And, again, this
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: is a week-by-week league. Things can change. He can get hurt.
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: He can play poorly. But right now, I think he's
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: playing well enough to be the starter.
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: Can you use.
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: Both consistently, or does that just not get you in rhythm?
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: I wouldn't.
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: I wouldn't want that. As a receiver, I wouldn't want that.
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: As a coach, I wouldn't want that. This is not
- 1:35:08Speaker 5: Chris Leak and Tim Tebow. I mean, these are two
- 1:35:11Speaker 5: guys who are both young who both throw well from
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: the pocket when they just pull the trigger. I know Faison,
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: his running element is more elite than George's, but I
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: personally would not do that. Plus, again, Faison is hurt
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: or battling the shoulder that he did hurt against Texas.
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: So I just wouldn't put him in that situation to
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: only run the ball and further hurt that shoulder. So
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: I would roll with George. again, to George proves that
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: he can go with someone else.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: How do you go into the Bama game now as
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: compared to as a player? You're going in as a broadcaster,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: but you're all about the big orange. You're VFL. Do
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: you have the same feeling, the same nervousness, or a
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: good nervousness?
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: I'm still pissed off the same way. I love that.
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: Pissed off for greatness. Yeah, I'm still pissed off and
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: fired up about the matchup. The only difference is I
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: can't do anything about it. I haven't been able to
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: do anything about it for the last 20 years. One year,
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: I got a chance to talk to the receivers in
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: 2014 and voice how I felt about this matchup. They
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: went out and I thought they represented me well in
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: how physical they played.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: We didn't win the game. It wasn't close.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: You should have talked to the entire team.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: I got the receivers.
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, again, man, I'm not going to shy
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: away from what this game means and how I feel
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: about this game.
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: It is what it is. And I know there's some
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: people in Alabama that feel the same way.
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: And that's okay. That's the way it's supposed to be. But, yeah,
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: like I'm fired up, man. I get emotional about this
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: one this week for sure.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: Hey, man, I genuinely mean this. The Vault Network sounds great.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: I told Mike that and Larry. I love the total coverage.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: you guys go on early and you stay late. It's
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: a long day. And in the middle of the broadcast,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: it's about the big orange. It's, it's, it's fantastic. And, uh,
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: and it's, uh, from state line to state line, man, uh, you've,
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: you've got it covered and you're doing a great job.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: I thought, I thought, uh, the, the video that, that
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: they did when they surprised you live on air with
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: Josh was, was, was really cool. And, uh, you see
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: what it means to you, but you also see what
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: it means to Mike, you know, like that's, there's a
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: fabric there. That's great. And, It's what's going to make
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: the games even better. As you said, the next best call.
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: Yep, yep, yep.
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: It's awesome to be able to work with guys that
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: share the same passion for this program, for our school,
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: and then just the art, the art of trying to
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: be the best you possibly can be for the fans
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: because you're serving them. And we are such an important
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: part of their game day experience. And I can go
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: on and on about young kids watching, not being able
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: to watch TV.
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: But only listening to the radio because of John Ward.
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: And, you know, they use him to paint the picture.
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: And I understand our responsibility in doing that. So, man,
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: the preparation that goes into it, man, the passion that
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: we have. I mean, I'm just impressed. to be a
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: part of it. I learn something new every day just
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: working on the mic. I sit there and watch him work.
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: And that's a pleasure. But I appreciate you, man.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: Yeah, dude.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: Hey, keep up the great work. Thank you for the
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: time as well today. And I'm looking forward to the game.
