- 0:01Speaker 1: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:04Speaker 1: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:08Speaker 1: and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor pumping out
- 0:14Speaker 1: one million kilowatts of power.
- 0:47Speaker 2: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm Marlena. And, you know, as we alluded to last week,
- 0:58Speaker 2: everybody else has skipped town on us. I think they're
- 1:00Speaker 2: all running from the cops or something like that. So...
- 1:03Speaker 2: For the first time, we've actually delved into the listenership
- 1:06Speaker 2: to bring on a new co-host for us. Today, we've
- 1:10Speaker 2: brought in Greg. What's up? I'm Greg. I like to party. Oh, no.
- 1:16Speaker 2: That's a callback from, like, months ago.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Well, you know.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Does anybody else get that callback?
- 1:23Speaker 4: Isn't that what Eddie said?
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Eddie might get it. So other than that, yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 2: everybody's like, so what do we care? Anyway, so yeah,
- 1:32Speaker 2: I guess it's been an interesting run. For you, because
- 1:36Speaker 2: I've known you for a long time, hadn't seen you
- 1:39Speaker 2: in a long... Until this week, hadn't actually come in
- 1:42Speaker 2: physical contact with you in, what, eight, ten years? Yeah, probably.
- 1:47Speaker 2: It's been a long.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I run into you at a show or something
- 1:50Speaker 3: like that every.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Now and then, or... That was like a long... Even
- 1:53Speaker 2: that last one was a long time ago, so... Yeah, absolutely, so...
- 1:56Speaker 2: But oddly enough, and I don't even know, how did
- 1:58Speaker 2: you find out that the show started? Because you were
- 2:00Speaker 2: there from like day one, but... Uh... I can't remember.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I think you had my email and said that you
- 2:06Speaker 3: had something new, a new project coming up, and I
- 2:08Speaker 3: want to listen to it.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And so I'm a loser and have no life. I
- 2:12Speaker 2: may as well listen. That's what we're looking for. That's
- 2:14Speaker 2: our staple around here.
- 2:16Speaker 3: The rest of the listeners, you're not losers.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Just me. Yeah, you guys are all cool.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Anyway, so, but yeah, I think that probably is why
- 2:26Speaker 2: I sent it. Knowing the movie geek that you are,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you know, we did do time in the trenches of
- 2:32Speaker 2: movie video store. Video store. Yeah. I have a degree
- 2:35Speaker 2: in video store. Yeah, sadly so.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I may not be the heightened geek that some
- 2:40Speaker 3: others are, but I still delve down into it sometimes.
- 2:44Speaker 2: See, I don't claim to be anything extra. There's a
- 2:46Speaker 2: lot of people out there, most of which who have podcasts,
- 2:50Speaker 2: Seem to think they're an authority on everything. I don't
- 2:52Speaker 2: claim to be. We just do a show. So I
- 2:55Speaker 2: think if you know that going in, it makes it
- 2:56Speaker 2: a little easier than people who think they know everything.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I don't claim to know a damn thing. No. All right.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Anything else to add? Do you want to have some
- 3:05Speaker 2: sort of grand entry or do you need a theme
- 3:07Speaker 2: song or something?
- 3:08Speaker 3: I would love a theme song, but I don't think
- 3:10Speaker 3: I warrant one yet.
- 3:12Speaker 2: So I would say.
- 3:13Speaker 1: All right.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I guess we can roll into this week's geek activities.
- 3:17Speaker 2: All right. As for mine, the last one I'll save
- 3:21Speaker 2: because we cross over there on Friday. But before that,
- 3:25Speaker 2: beginning of the week, I actually watched Extract, which is
- 3:29Speaker 2: the last Mike Judge movie. Oh, I wanted to see that.
- 3:33Speaker 2: It's pretty entertaining, I have to say. It's kind of
- 3:36Speaker 2: a low-key movie. It never really goes crazy. It's just
- 3:40Speaker 2: sort of a nice little story of slightly complicated everyday lives.
- 3:44Speaker 2: But it never really gets.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I don't know. I didn't know what to expect going in.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I think from the synopsis, I expected a lot bigger,
- 3:52Speaker 2: crazier story, and it's a pretty normal, everyday kind of story.
- 3:56Speaker 2: It is very blue-collar, everyday people, and it sort of
- 3:59Speaker 2: follows them around. With all of Mike's projects, the strength
- 4:05Speaker 2: really kind of lies in his characters, and in this
- 4:08Speaker 2: one specifically, in his side characters, and that's always sort
- 4:12Speaker 2: of been his case. He's had a few really good
- 4:14Speaker 2: leads here and there, but In the little amount of
- 4:16Speaker 2: work that he's done, yeah, it's always the side characters
- 4:19Speaker 2: that are the most interesting and the most quirky and weird.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Sure.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And that's, yeah, you've got to like that in his stuff. Yeah, Idiocracy,
- 4:28Speaker 2: the main character, was about as boring as you can get.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Yep.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Everybody else was just off the wall crazy.
- 4:33Speaker 2: So, yeah. I'm still considering that. I think we might
- 4:36Speaker 2: need to throw that one in.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Still never seen it. I always hear from people that
- 4:40Speaker 4: the idea of the movie is so amazing and the
- 4:42Speaker 4: movie itself is kind.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Of like, eh.
- 4:44Speaker 3: The first half of the movie is pretty funny. The
- 4:47Speaker 3: rest of it kind of falls apart by the end.
- 4:49Speaker 3: But it's a good.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Idea, I think. I still think it's kind of worth... Well,
- 4:55Speaker 2: even this one. It's worth watching. It's not amazing. It's
- 4:57Speaker 2: not going to blow your mind. But, you know, it's
- 5:00Speaker 2: a fun movie. And you kind of end up liking
- 5:02Speaker 2: all the characters. Even like the ones... Like a lot
- 5:04Speaker 2: of people do things that are not likable. Like their
- 5:07Speaker 2: actions are sort of things that you wouldn't get behind.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But yet in the end, you sort of still like everybody.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Like even the people you shouldn't like. You're just like, ah,
- 5:16Speaker 2: that guy. I like that guy. He's okay. So... Yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 2: you've got to give it to Mike Judge for making
- 5:22Speaker 2: likable characters, even in the worst of situations.
- 5:26Speaker 3: We've had the hard copy of it on DVD ready
- 5:29Speaker 3: to watch from Netflix for six months now, which proves
- 5:33Speaker 3: that Netflix really doesn't care if you.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Ever return it. But we stream nonstop from them. Yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I guess that's the rule.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Obviously, I've never gotten around to watching it or I
- 5:43Speaker 3: would have sent it back. My wife and I keep saying, no,
- 5:46Speaker 3: let's keep it one more day.
- 5:47Speaker 2: We'll watch it. Never end up watching it. One more
- 5:49Speaker 2: day lasts forever. Yeah. So right now I own it,
- 5:52Speaker 2: I suppose. I guess. Maybe you can buy it for
- 5:55Speaker 2: like an extra buck or something. You know what? Just
- 5:57Speaker 2: don't even think about it. I think Redbox is like
- 5:59Speaker 2: that now.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah, they do. Now they have this little thing at
- 6:03Speaker 4: the bottom that says, buy this movie for $ 5.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Buy this randomly used by everyone in town, scratched up
- 6:09Speaker 2: piece of crap. We don't. With no case. Have fun. Enjoy.
- 6:13Speaker 2: You didn't get the movie you wanted anyway. Yeah, they
- 6:15Speaker 2: were out of the good movies. You got this piece
- 6:17Speaker 2: of crap straight to DVD nonsense. So other than that, yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 2: I did have an outing yesterday to Gaddyland. And that's
- 6:27Speaker 2: extremely geeky, obviously, especially in my own situation because, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 2: it's not like that's the first time I've gone to Gettyland.
- 6:34Speaker 2: In our circles for a while there, it was pretty standard.
- 6:37Speaker 2: You wouldn't go a month or two without us making
- 6:39Speaker 2: a trip to Gettyland or some sort of lame fun
- 6:41Speaker 2: park wherein I got tickets to trade for prizes. That
- 6:44Speaker 2: was really all I wanted was crappy prizes.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I still go sometimes. and there's usually not a small
- 6:49Speaker 4: child present.
- 6:51Speaker 2: See that that's the thing it's rare that there ever
- 6:53Speaker 2: was up until recently now i have my niece and
- 6:56Speaker 2: nephew so yesterday was the party for my nephew so
- 6:59Speaker 2: i did have a group full of you know five-year-olds
- 7:02Speaker 2: running around which which leads to what i think is
- 7:04Speaker 2: the really funny part which is as i'm sitting there
- 7:06Speaker 2: my cousin and i started talking about it and decided
- 7:08Speaker 2: that um there really needs to be a balloon sword
- 7:12Speaker 2: fight show on reality television. They're just... Because they gave
- 7:16Speaker 2: a whole group of five-year-olds... They made balloon swords out
- 7:19Speaker 2: of the balloons and then handed them to them. That's
- 7:22Speaker 2: all they did.
- 7:23Speaker 4: There probably is one in Japan.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they're like, you want to open presents? Whatever!
- 7:27Speaker 2: They're just busy beating cake. Who cares? All they wanted
- 7:30Speaker 2: to do was beat the hell out of each other
- 7:31Speaker 2: with balloon swords. And yeah, sadly, there probably is one
- 7:34Speaker 2: in Japan. Most parents, I think, would get behind that.
- 7:37Speaker 2: You know, kids beating... each other's kids up it's a
- 7:40Speaker 2: great idea well then but it really was like the
- 7:43Speaker 2: more we watched it it was it was kind of
- 7:44Speaker 2: like it it suckered you in like you just like
- 7:47Speaker 2: you'd think you'd get bored of it but after a
- 7:48Speaker 2: while i was like no no this is really entertaining
- 7:50Speaker 2: yeah i was like there's there is the comedy there's
- 7:53Speaker 2: you know intrigue there's you know it really is like
- 7:56Speaker 2: a reality show they're forming alliances and you know they're
- 7:59Speaker 2: voting you out of the room they kick your ass
- 8:01Speaker 2: out there and you know that Except for the one
- 8:03Speaker 2: girl who got a flower. She got screwed. Oh, that's bad.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I think she didn't want a sword because that's what
- 8:08Speaker 2: the dorky boys had. But she did make her a flower.
- 8:10Speaker 2: The girl making the balloons was pretty talented. She made
- 8:12Speaker 2: a flower, which looked really close to what a balloon
- 8:15Speaker 2: sword looks like. But it had an extra balloon on
- 8:18Speaker 2: it and made it a flower. She could have called
- 8:21Speaker 2: it a mace or something. Yeah, I think she still
- 8:24Speaker 2: should have started hitting people in the face with it.
- 8:26Speaker 2: But whatever, little girls. The rest of them just pounded
- 8:30Speaker 2: on each other. so yeah. And then to wrap up
- 8:34Speaker 2: that part, I did at the end of this, probably
- 8:38Speaker 2: the most adult thing I've ever done in my life.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I played, you know, I hung around there, played skeeball
- 8:43Speaker 2: or whatever, stupid games and did really badly at all
- 8:45Speaker 2: of them and got a handful of tickets and then
- 8:48Speaker 2: use them all to buy my niece a present. I'm disappointing.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I'm still, yeah, I know. I was standing there in line,
- 8:56Speaker 2: kind of in shock. Like, I think I'm going to
- 8:58Speaker 2: get her. So what, The hell? What is this? Ow!
- 9:02Speaker 2: Adulthood sucks! Yeah, I didn't buy myself toys with my tickets.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I don't understand. It doesn't make sense to me. You
- 9:09Speaker 2: didn't want a super high bounce ball or a finger
- 9:13Speaker 2: trap or something? I did, but you know, my affection
- 9:17Speaker 2: for my niece, I overwhelmed it. It kind of sucks, really.
- 9:20Speaker 2: What the hell is that about? Where's my toys, damn it?
- 9:24Speaker 2: so yeah that's right gave my.
- 9:26Speaker 4: She grows up you're gonna be like you owe me
- 9:28Speaker 4: a gaddyland toy give me your.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Tickets give me that yeah then i'll just shove her
- 9:32Speaker 2: down and take them but by then she'll just kick my.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Ass she'll be really old by then so she'll even
- 9:38Speaker 4: even push your walker.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Even now she's a she's a feisty little kid she
- 9:41Speaker 2: just punched people in the face she don't care she's hardcore.
- 9:45Speaker 3: She might have to feed you a tapioca pudding at
- 9:47Speaker 3: the Old folks home one day, so don't worry about that.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I don't think anybody's taking care of me. I'll just
- 9:54Speaker 2: be one they push out in the yard in a wheelchair.
- 9:56Speaker 2: He likes to look at the sun. Just leave him
- 10:00Speaker 2: out there.
- 10:01Speaker 4: That's amazing. It amazes me. The small, simple things kids do.
- 10:08Speaker 4: You can entertain an adult for hours and hours and hours.
- 10:11Speaker 2: If it's your kid or one you know very well. Otherwise,
- 10:13Speaker 2: you're just annoyed at that little brat. Whatever they're doing,
- 10:16Speaker 2: they can be doing the exact same thing, but you're
- 10:18Speaker 2: just like, oh, that kid needs to go away.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Yeah, like yesterday, my best friend's baby, who's only five
- 10:24Speaker 4: months old, we like to teach her dances, and she's
- 10:28Speaker 4: pretty good at them, but we've been working on this
- 10:30Speaker 4: for quite a while. She gets really close to your
- 10:33Speaker 4: face and bites your face, but she has no teeth.
- 10:37Speaker 4: But we yell, zombie baby! And she puts her mouth
- 10:42Speaker 4: on your forehead and kind of just slobbers on your forehead.
- 10:46Speaker 4: But it's really funny.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Zombie in training.
- 10:48Speaker 4: I have pictures.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Nice.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Pretty funny. That went on for about 45 minutes at least.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see that.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I don't know what point it is, but eventually that
- 10:58Speaker 3: slobber drool just becomes gross and you don't want your
- 11:00Speaker 3: kid to do that.
- 11:01Speaker 2: But there's that, you know, I don't know where that
- 11:04Speaker 2: point is. Yeah, because I've seen parents do things involving
- 11:07Speaker 2: slobber that creep me out. But it was their kid
- 11:09Speaker 2: and they didn't blink an eye. And I'm just like, okay,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I guess that comes with the having a kid part.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Like picking a pacifier off the dirty floor and licking
- 11:18Speaker 4: it to clean it.
- 11:19Speaker 2: That's kind of the one I was thinking of.
- 11:21Speaker 4: It kind of doesn't really make it any cleaner.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched a mother do that. She was like, oh,
- 11:25Speaker 2: here you go.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Haven't they seen those protestus commercials or whatever?
- 11:30Speaker 2: Good stuff. Yikes. That was about all I did other than, um,
- 11:34Speaker 2: Friday night, which we sort of crossover Craig and I,
- 11:37Speaker 2: cause that was the, our first little interaction before this
- 11:40Speaker 2: weekend kicked in. What's sad is before, um, middle of
- 11:43Speaker 2: this week, I had no idea I was going to
- 11:45Speaker 2: see you at all, let alone that you would be
- 11:46Speaker 2: sitting here twice in a week. I know. Yeah. I, uh, yeah, I,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I didn't even know for sure. I threw it out
- 11:52Speaker 2: there like, uh, the beginning of the week and, uh,
- 11:54Speaker 2: Before the show was over last week, Roger bailed on us.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I was like, oh, remember when I said we might
- 12:00Speaker 2: want you to come by? Guess what? I'm close, but
- 12:05Speaker 2: I sometimes show up late. Let it slide this time. Okay. So, yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 2: Friday night we ended up going to see Predators. So,
- 12:14Speaker 2: before we even get into the movie, would you like
- 12:16Speaker 2: to run through the trailers? Because we had the best
- 12:20Speaker 2: allotment of trailers I think I've ever seen possibly ever.
- 12:24Speaker 2: There was not a downtime in the entire run. We
- 12:27Speaker 2: had four trailers. They were worth the price of admission.
- 12:30Speaker 2: They were. We had the long new trailer, or new.
- 12:34Speaker 3: To me, I suppose, because I don't try to watch
- 12:35Speaker 3: too many of those online, but the machete trailer. trailer
- 12:39Speaker 3: we knew we've kind of figured that was an upcoming.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Being related to rodriguez yeah but um yeah i i
- 12:47Speaker 2: think what did we decide can you fit that much
- 12:50Speaker 2: awesome in a movie no there's so much awesome just
- 12:53Speaker 2: in the trailer it already needs to be a trilogy
- 12:55Speaker 2: right right absolutely.
- 12:57Speaker 3: And then and then directly after that is another that's
- 13:00Speaker 3: crammed full of awesomeness and explosions as explosions the expendables
- 13:05Speaker 3: yep um a bunch of old dudes running around Pumping iron.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I think it's your laundry list of, hey, you doing anything?
- 13:14Speaker 2: No. No. Let's go. Most of them, that's true. I mean,
- 13:18Speaker 2: with the exception of Jason Statham, where any of the
- 13:21Speaker 2: other ones are working, I don't think you need much
- 13:23Speaker 2: money to get Dolph Lundgren in your movie now. He's like,
- 13:26Speaker 2: can I eat off the catering table? Okay. I like
- 13:30Speaker 2: to eat, and I don't get a chance much.
- 13:33Speaker 4: No. No.
- 13:34Speaker 2: So yeah the rest of them you know even Jet
- 13:36Speaker 2: Li's kind of semi-retired now so I mean he's he
- 13:39Speaker 2: was working quite a bit for a while right even
- 13:42Speaker 2: he's sort of put himself out the pasture I suppose
- 13:45Speaker 2: yeah it's no surprise on most of them but um yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I remember thinking with both of them that you know
- 13:50Speaker 3: we watched a I don't know three minute four minute
- 13:52Speaker 3: trailer and I was thinking there's no way they can
- 13:55Speaker 3: fit all of these scenes into one movie yep you
- 13:58Speaker 3: know there's 14 explosions in a three second span how
- 14:02Speaker 3: does that happen so Only in the movies. It's going
- 14:05Speaker 3: to be chock full.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And we also were sitting there thinking, going, oh, after
- 14:09Speaker 2: those two. I mean, it can't get more awesome than that.
- 14:12Speaker 2: They stepped it up. They literally stepped it up. The
- 14:16Speaker 2: Step Up 3D trailer. Wow. I am still in shock.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I don't even know what to do with that. I
- 14:26Speaker 2: just sat there awestruck by the ridiculousness. And yet, I
- 14:31Speaker 2: want to go see it.
- 14:32Speaker 3: There's smoke coming off their hands coming out at you
- 14:35Speaker 3: in the screen. It's going to be fantastic.
- 14:37Speaker 2: There's droplets of water flying around, and there's your feet
- 14:41Speaker 2: spinning and coming at your face. And I'm just like.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Did you have 3D glasses on at the time?
- 14:46Speaker 2: No, and it was still, like, you're still watching it going, oh,
- 14:48Speaker 2: that's blatantly 3D. Like, all of these are, like, things
- 14:51Speaker 2: coming at the screen. So you're like, this is going
- 14:53Speaker 2: to be so 3D. It's going to be amazing.
- 14:56Speaker 4: I've never seen a 3D movie.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Oh.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Aside from when I was really young and there was this... It's.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Very hit and miss.
- 15:02Speaker 4: At Disney World.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Captain EO?
- 15:04Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Captain EO is awesome. There's the Muppets, the Muppets 3D experience.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I haven't been in a long time. Captain EO was, like,
- 15:12Speaker 2: cutting edge when I was there.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And I think they've got the Bugs Life 3D, so
- 15:17Speaker 3: they go out with 3D at Disney.
- 15:20Speaker 2: It's hit and miss, though. Some of them are awesome,
- 15:21Speaker 2: some of them are kind of, why am I wearing
- 15:23Speaker 2: these stupid glasses? They give me a headache, so I
- 15:26Speaker 2: don't like to go. I've only seen one I've been
- 15:28Speaker 2: really impressed with, and the rest have been kind of...
- 15:31Speaker 2: And which one was that? Well, no, the one I
- 15:33Speaker 2: really liked was the My Bloody Valentine. I think they
- 15:36Speaker 2: did a really good thing. I did... I did what
- 15:39Speaker 2: I saw of.
- 15:39Speaker 4: That was kind of the start of the 3D craze.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the first one. And they put all
- 15:43Speaker 2: the work in that one. And then I saw Coraline.
- 15:46Speaker 2: That was actually pretty impressive, too. But that's just a
- 15:48Speaker 2: good movie anyway.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I saw that one without 3D.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good. But what they'd done with that was
- 15:53Speaker 2: pretty high-tech, too. But yeah, the Final Destination one was
- 15:57Speaker 2: pretty lame, really. Not just the movie. But yeah, the
- 16:01Speaker 2: 3D was kind of a letdown, too. I don't know
- 16:03Speaker 2: if we watched much else. I saw the....
- 16:07Speaker 3: Took my kid to see the How to Train Your Dragon. Yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 3: I've heard that's good. That didn't need it, but it
- 16:14Speaker 3: was really good with it. I've heard the flying scenes
- 16:17Speaker 3: are pretty good. Yeah, but you really don't need the
- 16:19Speaker 3: flying scenes either. So, I don't know.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It's just an excuse to pay $ 3 more. Obviously. So, yeah.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Step Up 3D looks amazing. horrible, stupid, and yet somehow
- 16:33Speaker 2: I want to give them like $ 14 to go see
- 16:35Speaker 2: this thing. Oh my god, it looks terrible. But the
- 16:39Speaker 2: last one may have upped it even more because there's
- 16:43Speaker 2: lots of death and blood involved. They followed it up
- 16:46Speaker 2: with Piranha 3D. Wow. I didn't realize... I mean, I
- 16:51Speaker 2: knew this was going to be ridiculous. I don't think
- 16:54Speaker 2: I realized the sci-fi-ness of this movie because... Oh my god,
- 16:59Speaker 2: it's so big screen version of a sci-fi movie. Yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 2: the sci-fi channel missed out on getting this, I guess.
- 17:05Speaker 2: I don't know. They made a pass on the script
- 17:07Speaker 2: and then somehow it got greenlit to go to the
- 17:09Speaker 2: theaters because... They'll have the sequel year in and year out. Oh, yeah.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Straight to side by.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Unless they make a ton of money off of the
- 17:17Speaker 3: box office.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I don't know if they would own this place.
- 17:20Speaker 3: But the thing that bothered me, I couldn't believe Elizabeth
- 17:22Speaker 3: Shue was going to be in it.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I'd heard that early on, and that was kind of
- 17:26Speaker 2: the selling point. The only other thing I'd heard in
- 17:28Speaker 2: the beginning was that she was in it. I'm like, well,
- 17:30Speaker 2: now I'm kind of on board. 3D and Elizabeth Shue?
- 17:33Speaker 2: Come on now. But then, yeah, this is the first
- 17:37Speaker 2: I've seen any footage of the piranha in question. Wow.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Holy shit, these are bad. Like, I mean, it's going
- 17:45Speaker 2: to theaters. It's going to have a pretty decent budget
- 17:47Speaker 2: with all these actors they're pulling in. So I thought
- 17:49Speaker 2: they were going to have a decent amount of CGI.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I mean, I didn't figure they were going to do
- 17:54Speaker 2: much practical effects. But, no, this is all CGI, and
- 17:57Speaker 2: it's sci-fi channel level of CGI. Right. Oh, my God.
- 18:01Speaker 2: I did not expect that.
- 18:03Speaker 3: The one moment where there's a wall of piranha underwater,
- 18:08Speaker 3: it looks like Finding Nemo. It's that bad.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I mean, not that Finding Nemo is bad, but Finding
- 18:15Speaker 2: Nemo is not supposed to be real. It's not supposed
- 18:17Speaker 2: to be actual things you can touch. Yeah, it's a cartoon.
- 18:21Speaker 2: There's a difference. Right. So, yeah. Do we even need
- 18:26Speaker 2: to go into the movie now? That's spent all of
- 18:29Speaker 2: it right there. Yeah, we have a whole show of
- 18:31Speaker 2: our previews. But really, those four? Can you top those
- 18:35Speaker 2: four in a row?
- 18:36Speaker 3: No, just Adrian Brody being the alpha male. That's the
- 18:39Speaker 3: only thing that can top it.
- 18:41Speaker 2: And confusing but semi-worked?
- 18:44Speaker 7: Right.
- 18:45Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I still.
- 18:47Speaker 2: It was pretty fun. I think we both sort of
- 18:49Speaker 2: decided it was what we expected to some extent, but
- 18:53Speaker 2: maybe a little better. I think I went in with
- 18:55Speaker 2: not high hopes, so the fact that it was pretty
- 18:58Speaker 2: fun and entertaining is sort of a plus from where
- 19:01Speaker 2: I expected.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it was pretty fun. It wasn't Alien vs. Predator. No, thankfully.
- 19:09Speaker 3: That made me very happy because that stuff's kind of.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Horrible. Horrible. There you go.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Horrible.
- 19:14Speaker 3: So I think the one thing that bothered me about
- 19:16Speaker 3: the whole movie and thinking about it after the fact
- 19:20Speaker 3: is that it seemed to.
- 19:23Speaker 2: They had.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Not that you've seen it.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 19:28Speaker 3: But they had representatives from every ethnic group in the film.
- 19:34Speaker 3: And it's like, oh, well, this is the Mexican guy. And, oh,
- 19:37Speaker 3: this is the Asian guy.
- 19:38Speaker 2: It's a movie. They have to do that, don't they?
- 19:40Speaker 3: I don't even think they went out of their way
- 19:42Speaker 3: to name them. It's just like, oh, there's the Mexican guy.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Because you never would get confused at who they were
- 19:47Speaker 3: talking about.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Well, it's a Rodriguez-related movie. Guess who the Mexican guy is. Surprise!
- 19:53Speaker 4: Is it Danny Trejo?
- 19:54Speaker 2: Yes. The second person you see in the film.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Danny Trejo.
- 19:58Speaker 2: So, yeah. I mean, most of them... I mean, that
- 20:00Speaker 2: one you saw coming. But, yes, they did work in...
- 20:02Speaker 2: We're going to have to have a girl. Hmm... Let's see.
- 20:06Speaker 2: So they have to work in one girl, one black guy.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Of all the fighters in the world, there's only one
- 20:12Speaker 2: good black guy that's kicking ass out there? That seems off.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I mean, there's all kinds of crazy depth. What was
- 20:19Speaker 2: he part of, the depth team? I don't even recall.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I don't watch those military tech shows to find out
- 20:29Speaker 3: who all the people in the world can kill me.
- 20:30Speaker 3: What's the one where they battle each other, they simulate death?
- 20:34Speaker 3: What military group could kick the other one's ass?
- 20:36Speaker 2: I don't know. It's on one of the channels. Is
- 20:39Speaker 2: this UFC?
- 20:40Speaker 3: No, they actually put into a computer simulator the different
- 20:44Speaker 3: weapons that each one uses in their training and they
- 20:47Speaker 3: see who would win.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I think I've I know what you're talking about, but
- 20:50Speaker 4: I can't think of the name of it.
- 20:51Speaker 2: It was the Death Squads. He was one of the
- 20:53Speaker 2: crazy Death Squads in Africa. So it's like, yeah, we've
- 20:55Speaker 2: just got one guy? So yeah, they didn't even double up.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I guess the closest thing is the extra white guys,
- 21:03Speaker 2: but even then it's like, you're a Russian. We have
- 21:06Speaker 2: to have a Russian because we have this American guy.
- 21:08Speaker 2: So we have to have a Russian because he's a
- 21:10Speaker 2: bad guy. Yeah, I don't know. It's ridiculous. It was
- 21:14Speaker 2: still definitely, if you liked Predator... this is a definite C.
- 21:20Speaker 2: If you really like Predator, you have to see it.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Everything else went sort of downhill and steadily downhill as
- 21:24Speaker 2: the rest of the Predator-related movies came out. So yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 2: this is kind of bringing the bar back up a
- 21:29Speaker 2: little bit, I have to say. And I like the setup.
- 21:32Speaker 2: That first... initially going in like the characters not having
- 21:36Speaker 2: a clue what the hell's going on and that first
- 21:37Speaker 2: half of them figuring out where they are and what's
- 21:40Speaker 2: going on and it kind of plateaus at that point
- 21:43Speaker 2: there's like that mid 15 minutes or so where it
- 21:45Speaker 2: really is sort of i guess they're busy then explaining
- 21:48Speaker 2: things a little more but it's sort of leveled out
- 21:50Speaker 2: and it's it takes a little too long there but
- 21:52Speaker 2: by the end it wraps up with lots of action
- 21:54Speaker 2: again so.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Yeah they have to spend time doing the crazy guy
- 21:58Speaker 3: exposition moments yeah and uh i don't know if you
- 22:01Speaker 3: want me to get into the crazy guy at all
- 22:02Speaker 3: but then after that it's just non-stop action and almost
- 22:06Speaker 3: step it up a notch fast paced and you're you
- 22:08Speaker 3: know yeah they want to have just a roller coaster
- 22:11Speaker 3: eat your popcorn moment so that's that's that's all it is.
- 22:13Speaker 2: And it's yeah it delivers on all of that so
- 22:16Speaker 2: twists lots of fun yeah so yeah i like that
- 22:20Speaker 2: so Guess we can continue on to the rest of
- 22:22Speaker 2: your week now, Dave. Oh, my geek week. I'm so honored.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I guess you have to be a geek to have one. Oh, wow.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I listen to the show. No, that could be one.
- 22:32Speaker 2: That's pretty geeky right there.
- 22:33Speaker 3: I already informed Brian about this earlier in the week,
- 22:37Speaker 3: but I did get to watch on the This Channel,
- 22:39Speaker 3: which if you have.
- 22:40Speaker 2: This or can....
- 22:43Speaker 3: Get access to it, and you listen to the show,
- 22:46Speaker 3: you probably should watch this.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Where is this? Because you keep bringing it up online,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and I'm just like, where do I find this?
- 22:53Speaker 4: It's on regular non-cable TV.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Yeah, open air broadcast television. And whoever's programming it, it's just.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Like weird i mean they're like literally you watch this
- 23:04Speaker 2: they're well they're they're probably a dork with a podcast
- 23:07Speaker 2: somewhere because everything you tell me is on i'm like
- 23:09Speaker 2: wow really like the only other place i hear about
- 23:11Speaker 2: people talking about these movies is on other dorky podcasts
- 23:15Speaker 2: right that level of geeky movies.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Sleep away camp three three three not even one three
- 23:20Speaker 3: and of course it had to have colon teenage wasteland
- 23:23Speaker 3: like who even made that movie i don't know but
- 23:26Speaker 3: i watched uh i watched the apple last last week
- 23:29Speaker 3: and uh You know, I couldn't believe this was made
- 23:35Speaker 3: in 1980. But it is a musical, and I tried
- 23:38Speaker 3: to explain what it was like. And the only thing
- 23:41Speaker 3: I can come up with is if you take Southland Tales,
- 23:45Speaker 3: filmed in 1980, but it's all surrounding an American Idol competition,
- 23:51Speaker 3: that's pretty much what it is. And it's, you know,
- 23:54Speaker 3: the winners of the competition and how they spiral down
- 23:58Speaker 3: in this dystopian, music-filled... corporation-driven society.
- 24:04Speaker 2: And it's a musical. I so want to watch this.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Just for the sheer ridiculousness of it. And the only
- 24:11Speaker 2: reason I had recently heard about it is it stars
- 24:13Speaker 2: Captain Mary Stewart, who I was just... She started talking
- 24:16Speaker 2: about it. I was like, even as she was describing
- 24:17Speaker 2: it to me, I'm like, holy shit, I need to
- 24:19Speaker 2: find this movie. And then, like, little did I know,
- 24:21Speaker 2: you brought it up randomly this week. I'm like, okay,
- 24:23Speaker 2: now we need to watch this.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah, she actually did a pretty decent job for what
- 24:28Speaker 3: it was. And I think the film... doesn't take itself
- 24:33Speaker 3: super seriously at the same time. So it, you can
- 24:35Speaker 3: just say, okay, I thought at the beginning, I thought, Oh,
- 24:39Speaker 3: what are they trying to make?
- 24:40Speaker 1: You know?
- 24:41Speaker 3: And, and after about five or 10 minutes, I was,
- 24:43Speaker 3: I knew that this was a horrible movie. And as
- 24:46Speaker 3: I got into it, I was like, you know, you know,
- 24:48Speaker 3: this kind of works.
- 24:50Speaker 2: It makes it okay.
- 24:51Speaker 3: It's so bad that it works. So yeah, if you can,
- 24:54Speaker 3: if you can get your hands on a copy, I'd watch.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I'd watch that. We need to find it.
- 24:58Speaker 3: And the, I guess the ultimate thing that Brian informed
- 25:03Speaker 3: me was geeky was that I watched the third season
- 25:06Speaker 3: of The Guild on Netflix.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's great.
- 25:10Speaker 3: To get to three seasons of a show that's a
- 25:13Speaker 3: streamed television show about people whose lives are run by
- 25:19Speaker 3: World of Warcraft is pretty bad. But it's extremely well written.
- 25:24Speaker 3: You get your good fixes, you know, of characters. And
- 25:27Speaker 3: I think I most identify with the woman who is
- 25:29Speaker 3: the stay-at-home mom that locks her kids behind the kiddie
- 25:33Speaker 3: gate in the kitchen and tells them to feed themselves
- 25:36Speaker 3: while she plays World of Warcraft.
- 25:38Speaker 2: That all sounds fine to me. If you haven't watched
- 25:41Speaker 2: The Guild, it's definitely worth it. And the episodes are.
- 25:45Speaker 3: three minutes long, so a full season will take you
- 25:47Speaker 3: two hours.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Nice. No, it's definitely worth watching. It seems fun. I've
- 25:52Speaker 2: seen very little of it, but what I've seen, I
- 25:54Speaker 2: actually really liked. Yeah, it's quite amusing. Is that it
- 26:00Speaker 2: for you? I think that's it.
- 26:01Speaker 6: All right.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Roll on into yours.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Well, let's see. I watched something Predator-related, partially. I didn't
- 26:09Speaker 4: watch the whole thing. I didn't need to. I didn't
- 26:11Speaker 4: want to.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Okay. It was some.
- 26:14Speaker 4: type of alien versus predator movie on the sci-fi channel
- 26:18Speaker 4: oh which well it was a newer movie and it
- 26:22Speaker 4: i'm trying to think it looked like it was made
- 26:24Speaker 4: by sci-fi channel yeah.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I'm trying to decide if it was the last one
- 26:27Speaker 2: because the last one is was it what is the
- 26:29Speaker 2: last one requiem or yeah yeah that's it it's i
- 26:33Speaker 2: haven't even watched it was pretty bad it's yeah the
- 26:36Speaker 2: first one's iffy at best but yeah that second one
- 26:40Speaker 2: looks like a nightmare.
- 26:41Speaker 3: It's We still have all these costumes.
- 26:43Speaker 2: We may as well film another. We can make $ 20, 000.
- 26:46Speaker 3: That's about it.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I didn't even see anyone in the movie that I recognized.
- 26:51Speaker 4: But like I said, I didn't watch it for very long.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I didn't feel like I needed to at all.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I wouldn't have either. I like that they were just
- 26:58Speaker 2: cashing in on the fact that the new one came out.
- 27:00Speaker 2: What have we got laying around that we can play?
- 27:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we still got rights to that. Throw it
- 27:04Speaker 2: on whatever horrible channel we're on.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Yeah, it was sci-fi, I'm pretty sure.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yep, doesn't surprise me. Yep, that was.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Erase that from my memory, but when you guys were
- 27:12Speaker 4: talking about Predators, it came back up.
- 27:16Speaker 2: The Predator's a fun guy. You know, he just needs
- 27:18Speaker 2: a better mood.
- 27:20Speaker 4: He reminds me of, like, Rolf from Muppet Babies or something.
- 27:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Okay. That might be geekier than anything we've said. I guess, yeah.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I never hurt anybody, though. Ralph. Rolf. Rolf. Rolf rarely
- 27:36Speaker 2: ripped people's spines out.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Triumphantly held it over his head. You know.
- 27:40Speaker 3: And his mouth is just straight and horizontal. It's not
- 27:43Speaker 3: that freaky.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Which works better with the hand motion. Go ahead. Do
- 27:48Speaker 2: it at home.
- 27:48Speaker 4: I think it's just his floppy ears and the Predator's
- 27:51Speaker 4: dreadlock things.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know.
- 27:54Speaker 4: I don't know why I've always thought that since I
- 27:56Speaker 4: was a child.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Messed up childhood.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Were you scared of dogs?
- 28:04Speaker 4: No, I'm not scared of predators.
- 28:06Speaker 2: That's the problem. You like to grab predators and scratch
- 28:10Speaker 2: them behind the ears. Oh, you're a good predator. Muppets
- 28:13Speaker 2: are so cute. Predators are so cute. Good boy. Good predator.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Way to kill that dog.
- 28:19Speaker 4: But the saddest thing, I was at a friend's house
- 28:21Speaker 4: and her boyfriend yells, oh shit, predator's on. And I
- 28:24Speaker 4: got really excited because I was thinking to catch a predator.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Ha ha ha.
- 28:28Speaker 4: And then I was like, oh, it's this.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Well, that ties into what we were thinking as we
- 28:35Speaker 2: walked into the theater the other night.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought that if Chris Hansen just had just
- 28:40Speaker 3: come on, he could take care of the Predator right away.
- 28:43Speaker 4: I think that's a new spin that they need to
- 28:46Speaker 4: go on with the new Predator movie. Chris Hansen comes
- 28:51Speaker 4: in and he's like, what are you doing?
- 28:53Speaker 2: I was just going to talk to her.
- 28:56Speaker 8: I didn't.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I mean, I know her mom, and we were just
- 29:01Speaker 2: going to hang out and wait until the mom got home. Yeah.
- 29:04Speaker 4: And my favorites on that show, a little off track,
- 29:06Speaker 4: is when guys, they're like, I just wanted to come
- 29:09Speaker 4: over here and lecture her about how wrong it is
- 29:12Speaker 4: to meet older men off the internet.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Oh.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Okay.
- 29:16Speaker 2: That works. And you bought some alcohol, too.
- 29:19Speaker 4: A 40-pack of condoms.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Half the time, they don't bring those.
- 29:24Speaker 5: Interesting.
- 29:25Speaker 2: They're just going to kill her afterwards. What do they care? Right.
- 29:28Speaker 3: This could get bad really fast.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Are you okay?
- 29:37Speaker 9: They're sharpening up their blade going, that Chris Hansen motherfucker
- 29:44Speaker 9: better not be there. I'm bringing my good knives tonight.
- 29:48Speaker 2: If I see him when I walk in the door,
- 29:50Speaker 2: I'm just going to stab him in the face. Actually,
- 29:55Speaker 2: my favorites, though, are the ones that are like, hey,
- 29:57Speaker 2: I know you. Like, you know, you should be warned
- 30:01Speaker 2: by now. Yeah, you really should know better at that point. Oh,
- 30:05Speaker 2: I love that show.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I couldn't talk. I had a drink in
- 30:10Speaker 4: my mouth for almost five minutes because when he said,
- 30:14Speaker 4: I'm just going to kill her afterwards. And then we
- 30:17Speaker 4: all laughed and it was hilarious. And then I was like, hmm,
- 30:20Speaker 4: there must be something horribly wrong with us.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Well, I mean. You know, one less thing to worry
- 30:26Speaker 2: about if you're just going to kill her afterwards. She
- 30:29Speaker 2: won't go tell Chris Hansen.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Goodness. Oh, let's see. And last night, I had a sleepover.
- 30:40Speaker 6: You are 12 years old.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Yes.
- 30:43Speaker 4: We couldn't remember that game.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Luckily, I lured you here from me via the internet.
- 30:48Speaker 2: How old are you? Come over and watch a movie
- 30:51Speaker 2: with me. Is this on camera? He'll be here later.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 30:56Speaker 4: It was our original plan to find that game that...
- 30:59Speaker 4: I can't remember it, but it was like... There's these
- 31:02Speaker 4: pictures of these cute boys, like cute 12-year-old boys. And,
- 31:06Speaker 4: you know... You draw cards and one of them is like.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Mystery date. I was going to say, there's not a
- 31:11Speaker 2: door involved, is there? Yes, it was. The door was awesome.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Yeah, we couldn't think of the name of it.
- 31:16Speaker 2: My cousin had that when I was a kid and
- 31:18Speaker 2: I loved the door part. I was just always let
- 31:19Speaker 2: down that there was a dorky guy on it. I
- 31:22Speaker 2: was like, what the hell is this date? Where's the
- 31:24Speaker 2: hot babes at? Come on. Yeah, the dud was always
- 31:27Speaker 2: the coolest looking guy. I was like, well, I'll at
- 31:29Speaker 2: least hang out with this guy, but we're not going
- 31:32Speaker 2: past first page.
- 31:34Speaker 3: I played my aunts, and it was like the 1960s version.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what she had.
- 31:38Speaker 3: The guy that was the bowling guy. I'm like, who
- 31:40Speaker 3: the hell goes bowling? That's not a good date.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Like, they were all fucking Sochi's and shit. Like, I
- 31:46Speaker 2: don't like these guys. These guys suck. Yeah. And the guy,
- 31:49Speaker 2: hang out. He's the dud. Oh, well. He's got glasses.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Let's go hang out. Let's go play video games, dude.
- 31:55Speaker 2: You've never heard of them before, but you'll like them,
- 31:57Speaker 2: believe me.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Yeah we couldn't think of what that game was and
- 32:02Speaker 4: it's not like it's probably still in existence today but
- 32:05Speaker 4: would have made our sleepover a lot better so instead
- 32:07Speaker 4: we went to red box and it took us a
- 32:10Speaker 4: long time to pick out a movie usually everything.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Was gone yeah because they all suck yeah so.
- 32:16Speaker 4: It was like 12 30 and we're standing in this
- 32:18Speaker 4: very dangerous part of town at a red box if
- 32:21Speaker 4: we're like And we're trying to figure out a movie,
- 32:24Speaker 4: and we just kept adding movies to our list. And
- 32:28Speaker 4: the first one was Australia. And then I was just like,
- 32:31Speaker 4: I don't really want to watch this. I don't know
- 32:33Speaker 4: why we put it on.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Nobody really wanted to watch Australia.
- 32:35Speaker 4: We ended up with Youth and Revolt and Boondock Saints 2,
- 32:39Speaker 4: which we didn't watch Boondock Saints 2. But I'd already
- 32:42Speaker 4: seen Youth and Revolt, but I liked it. I thought
- 32:44Speaker 4: it was funny. I know it's kind of ridiculous and
- 32:48Speaker 4: would probably annoy most people, but the way they talked
- 32:51Speaker 4: I thought was funny. The way they would, like, banter
- 32:55Speaker 4: back and forth and, like, overly, like, dramatic kind of prose.
- 33:00Speaker 4: I don't know how to describe it, but it was
- 33:03Speaker 4: like watching an episode of Gilmore Girls, pretty much.
- 33:05Speaker 2: We'll see that, yeah.
- 33:07Speaker 3: The teenagers are more eloquent than any.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Adult can ever be. More well-spoken than, you know, most professors.
- 33:17Speaker 4: Like, instead of someone saying, I'm thirsty, they would say
- 33:19Speaker 4: something like, I could use a cold beverage right about
- 33:22Speaker 4: now or something, you know, they just like make things
- 33:26Speaker 4: way too complicated, but it's funny. My favorite, I think
- 33:29Speaker 4: the reason I like that movie so much is, well, it's,
- 33:33Speaker 4: Steve Buscemi's in it.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Well, that's always a plus. I didn't know that. Always.
- 33:38Speaker 4: Gene Smart is in it.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Wow.
- 33:40Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Gene Smart. You're reaching back. I haven't heard that name
- 33:43Speaker 2: in a while.
- 33:43Speaker 4: Don't do that.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I love her.
- 33:45Speaker 6: 92.
- 33:45Speaker 4: She has a list of pickles on the Oblongs.
- 33:49Speaker 2: I still watch that. That's true. The Oblongs is awesome.
- 33:51Speaker 4: I still watch all four episodes of that when it
- 33:53Speaker 4: comes on adults.
- 33:53Speaker 2: That they loop on constantly. Yeah.
- 33:55Speaker 4: That was a good show. God.
- 33:57Speaker 1: But, uh.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a really funny movie. I don't know where
- 34:01Speaker 4: I was going with that.
- 34:02Speaker 2: There is a phrase for that type of dialogue. It's
- 34:04Speaker 2: called Diablo Cody. And now everybody hates that style of dialogue.
- 34:09Speaker 2: So it might be the end of it right there.
- 34:11Speaker 2: She had nothing to do with that. But at this point,
- 34:14Speaker 2: it's all been sort of.
- 34:15Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true. I didn't think about that. It is
- 34:17Speaker 4: very similar to Juno. I mean, I don't... It was different.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Ellen Page did it a little bit differently.
- 34:25Speaker 2: And she sort of sells things a little better than
- 34:28Speaker 2: some of these other half-assed actresses.
- 34:30Speaker 4: And Juno, she was witty and funny, and I know
- 34:34Speaker 4: people like that, so I didn't find it too hard
- 34:36Speaker 4: to believe. And these kids are less animated, and it's
- 34:41Speaker 4: not so much funny as just this ridiculous way that
- 34:44Speaker 4: they talk.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Sometimes that stuff's real. Everybody wanted to call out that
- 34:49Speaker 2: whole run of when everything got like that, especially Juno.
- 34:53Speaker 2: But I'm like, some of that attitude is kind of real.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I really do know kids that are that attitude. They
- 34:59Speaker 2: may not be quite that well spoken about it, but
- 35:01Speaker 2: they've got the attitude. They do speak in weird, you know,
- 35:05Speaker 2: ways that only their friends pick up on. So, I mean,
- 35:09Speaker 2: a lot of it, I think, is a little more
- 35:10Speaker 2: realistic than people want to realize. They're just all like,
- 35:13Speaker 2: you know, old people now and they don't, they really
- 35:15Speaker 2: are out of the loop.
- 35:16Speaker 4: Damn kids.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Damn kids don't talk like that.
- 35:19Speaker 4: Yeah. But that was the point of the movie. They're
- 35:22Speaker 4: he was a very specific type of kid. He was
- 35:25Speaker 4: weird and didn't fit in and was obsessed with Frank
- 35:28Speaker 4: Sinatra and just like kind of a loser. And then
- 35:31Speaker 4: she was pretty, but also strange in her own right.
- 35:35Speaker 4: Obsessed with like French music and movies and stuff like that.
- 35:41Speaker 4: So they were not your average like.
- 35:44Speaker 2: No, that's not your usual teenager.
- 35:46Speaker 3: They would have gotten shunned and beaten up.
- 35:49Speaker 2: They would have had the door closed in their favorite song.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Where's the bowling guy?
- 35:54Speaker 4: I think the only reason I wanted to re-watch that
- 35:56Speaker 4: movie because there's this part where she was talking about
- 36:00Speaker 4: her boyfriend, Trent, and how he writes futuristic percussive poetry.
- 36:05Speaker 4: And he's like, ah, I'm not familiar with futuristic percussive poetry.
- 36:08Speaker 4: And she's like, I'll recite one of Trent's if you
- 36:10Speaker 4: like me to. And then it's just like, Ting pong.
- 36:14Speaker 4: This isn't a direct quote because there's no way I
- 36:15Speaker 4: can remember this, but it's like ting pong tin whistle skillet.
- 36:21Speaker 4: It's hilarious.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Okay. I didn't know I was writing those. Sometimes I
- 36:27Speaker 2: write that stuff.
- 36:28Speaker 4: You have to watch it.
- 36:29Speaker 2: It's funny. I didn't know I was a poet.
- 36:31Speaker 4: So many people either hate the movie because they love
- 36:34Speaker 4: the book or vice versa, but I've never read the book.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Stop reading. That's what I keep telling people. Just today.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Wait for the movie. I was emailing somebody and went
- 36:43Speaker 2: into that exact thing. I'm so tired of people bitching
- 36:46Speaker 2: about book versus movie bullshit. They're different. Get over it. Right.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Everybody does that. And when I got here, we watched
- 36:59Speaker 4: quite a bit of Criminal Minds.
- 37:00Speaker 2: I wonder why you didn't have time to watch Criminal Minds.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I don't know. I wasn't even going to call you out.
- 37:07Speaker 2: So yeah, I don't know. Do you want to go
- 37:08Speaker 2: into your favorite parts of Criminal Minds?
- 37:12Speaker 4: Matthew Gray Goobler?
- 37:13Speaker 2: There you go. Which I never will remember his name,
- 37:15Speaker 2: but if you just tell me the dorky guy.
- 37:17Speaker 4: You can call him Spencer Reed.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, that dorky guy with the long hair.
- 37:20Speaker 4: I either refer to him by his real name or
- 37:22Speaker 4: I go, oh, my God, I'm Spencer Reed. I get
- 37:25Speaker 4: all mystified on him.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Oh, there you go.
- 37:28Speaker 4: Sorry, Misty. She's not going to listen to this.
- 37:30Speaker 2: No, she won't listen. Yeah, she won't listen. She could
- 37:32Speaker 2: give a rap. She's not on it. Why would she
- 37:36Speaker 2: listen to it?
- 37:37Speaker 3: I don't even know her, and I can tell you that.
- 37:40Speaker 2: But, no, actually, I just watch it and just go, oh,
- 37:43Speaker 2: I wonder what Chandler thinks about this girl pulling a
- 37:45Speaker 2: gun on everybody. I can't get past the fact that
- 37:47Speaker 2: that girl should be Chandler's girlfriend right now.
- 37:49Speaker 4: I can't get past the fact that that guy should
- 37:52Speaker 4: be Greg on Darma and Greg.
- 37:54Speaker 2: I guess I do that, too. I was like, does
- 37:56Speaker 2: Darma know you're doing this? Right. She thinks you just
- 37:59Speaker 2: go to your work in your little office.
- 38:00Speaker 4: As a lawyer.
- 38:00Speaker 2: She doesn't know you've got, you know, like a big
- 38:02Speaker 2: FBI bulletproof vest on darting around corners and shit. Yeah.
- 38:06Speaker 3: I think that's the reason why I couldn't even start
- 38:08Speaker 3: to watch Showgirls. I was like, Jesse, what would Slater think?
- 38:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:14Speaker 3: It just ruined it for me before even the movie
- 38:16Speaker 3: even started. Not that there was anything to ruin it for.
- 38:18Speaker 2: I was going to say, if you're thinking that it's
- 38:20Speaker 2: going to be ruined at that point, you haven't seen Showgirls. Right.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Wow.
- 38:26Speaker 4: I haven't.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Oh, don't. Don't make me bust it out again because
- 38:31Speaker 2: that was an epic episode, let me tell you. We're
- 38:34Speaker 2: all still excited about that. Did you all watch Showgirls? Oh, yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 2: It was early on. That was one of the big kickoffs,
- 38:41Speaker 2: so it's pretty exciting. Yikes.
- 38:46Speaker 4: We just said yikes at the same time.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Since we're talking about showgirls, I think I have something
- 38:50Speaker 3: to admit.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Uh-oh. I know. No, not the.
- 38:56Speaker 2: I never told you I want to be a dancer
- 38:57Speaker 2: in Vegas. Brian went on.
- 38:58Speaker 3: A bit of a rant on that episode. Now here's
- 39:00Speaker 3: the show geek listening to, talking about the show. Went
- 39:05Speaker 3: on a little bit of a rant about how that
- 39:07Speaker 3: was the only movie he'd ever walked out on.
- 39:09Speaker 2: See? I was part of that troupe that walked out
- 39:13Speaker 2: of the movie. So I'll have to.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Take my lashings for that. But I will have to
- 39:16Speaker 3: interject in this moment that there were women involved that
- 39:20Speaker 3: wanted to leave. Not because they were offended by the film. Wait,
- 39:23Speaker 3: I went there with women? there was i don't know women.
- 39:27Speaker 6: Maybe just one woman but she was like no she
- 39:30Speaker 6: wasn't there but i remember saying you know what i'm
- 39:33Speaker 6: getting out of here and i think she needed a
- 39:36Speaker 6: ride i think we all needed to ride.
- 39:37Speaker 2: That's why yeah i i that was the reason.
- 39:40Speaker 3: I was just like fine you guys suck so yeah
- 39:43Speaker 3: no i'm not that i'm i.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Don't if i remember i don't think you prompted i
- 39:48Speaker 2: think i do remember who started the fuck this let's
- 39:50Speaker 2: go right i won't call them out and they're not
- 39:52Speaker 2: listening anyway but still i yeah i but i.
- 39:56Speaker 3: I was part of that and i apologize so.
- 39:59Speaker 2: That as well you should yeah but again knowing you
- 40:01Speaker 2: know the glutton for punishment that you are otherwise you
- 40:04Speaker 2: probably would have sat there and watched the rest of
- 40:06Speaker 2: it yeah not.
- 40:07Speaker 3: In any perverted way just i wanted to see that
- 40:09Speaker 3: was my thing you know i was like versace again.
- 40:12Speaker 2: I was like i want to see where you're going
- 40:14Speaker 2: with this nonsense i'm like how do you wrap up
- 40:16Speaker 2: this ridiculous and they didn't go anywhere and they didn't
- 40:19Speaker 2: really but you know so yeah it was a long
- 40:23Speaker 2: time it's.
- 40:23Speaker 4: So weird to me that people still even care about
- 40:26Speaker 4: that movie I.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Think it was so bad that you have to care. No, it's...
- 40:29Speaker 2: I mean, really. I think you sort of appreciate the
- 40:32Speaker 2: epic level of bad that I do. You will have
- 40:35Speaker 2: to watch this. I'll watch it again. I don't care.
- 40:37Speaker 4: I have to watch Spice World, I mean.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Spice World's a good movie. It's well above and beyond Showgirl.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Showgirl is just legitimately bad. Is it like R.
- 40:47Speaker 4: Kelly's Trapped in the Closet Bad?
- 40:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's more closer to that level of ridiculous bad.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Where Spice World's actually more clever than people will ever
- 40:55Speaker 2: admit to. because they think you know because it was
- 40:58Speaker 2: so flash in the pan they don't want to admit
- 40:59Speaker 2: to liking it truthfully it's pretty well written and it's
- 41:02Speaker 2: kind of clever in the way it makes fun of
- 41:04Speaker 2: themselves but nobody will admit to liking it other than
- 41:08Speaker 2: people on this show because most of us are actually
- 41:11Speaker 2: on board with it but.
- 41:13Speaker 4: Oh lord i think that was pretty much.
- 41:15Speaker 2: It for me Should we wrap up? Are we still
- 41:17Speaker 2: talking about your geek talk?
- 41:19Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 41:19Speaker 2: I think we are. We've tangented 14 times. Sorry about that.
- 41:24Speaker 2: That's kind of normal if you haven't noticed. No, I
- 41:26Speaker 2: didn't notice.
- 41:26Speaker 3: But I didn't want to be part of that, but,
- 41:29Speaker 3: you know, we wanted to keep.
- 41:29Speaker 4: It nice and clean.
- 41:31Speaker 2: It happens. You know, that's how we operate, man. All right,
- 41:35Speaker 2: then we will take a break and be back with
- 41:37Speaker 2: the buzz of the week. Fantastic. Ach, hello there.
- 41:58Speaker 5: Here's a demonstration of my new invention, the goodies machine.
- 42:03Speaker 5: Special for patrons of this drive-in, the machine turns out
- 42:06Speaker 5: delicious hot doggies one after the other. Gives popcorn of
- 42:13Speaker 5: the most tasty kind. Plain and buttered.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Candy, too.
- 42:17Speaker 5: Crunchy and dandy. Steaming hot coffee. And ice cream, too.
- 42:22Speaker 5: These goodies are at a snack bar just waiting for you.
- 42:26Speaker 2: He's here. My mystery date.
- 42:30Speaker 8: Mystery date.

- 42:54Speaker 2: be ready for swimming? Or a dance?

- 43:16Speaker 2: So girls, open.

- 44:06Speaker 2: Fright Night Film Fest is my favorite film festival. Hands down.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Attention shoppers! I trust you've got credit cards to pay
- 44:17Speaker 2: for all that stuff. Hi, this is Captain Mary Stewart,
- 44:21Speaker 2: and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 44:52Speaker 7: All right, we are back with What's the Buzz?
- 44:58Speaker 2: Groovy.
- 45:07Speaker 4: The people that normally make noises or do something are gone.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Well, later we'll have to film it.
- 45:13Speaker 3: I'll just have to watch Jesus Christ Superstar on my own.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Good. You should. It's nice.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Good.
- 45:18Speaker 6: It rocks.
- 45:21Speaker 2: All right, so as movie fans continue to recover from
- 45:24Speaker 2: the possibility that MGM's financial situation may prevent us from
- 45:28Speaker 2: ever seeing the two awesome Hobbit movies the way that
- 45:31Speaker 2: it's going, there's a whole other issue that comes up
- 45:35Speaker 2: this week with the other hugely popular franchise. Maybe the
- 45:38Speaker 2: only other one they have. I don't even know at
- 45:40Speaker 2: this point. But, yeah, we've discussed it before. James Bond.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Just a few months ago, they were still in prep
- 45:47Speaker 2: to have the third Daniel Craig, James Bond movie. They
- 45:50Speaker 2: had it lined up, directed by Sam Mendes, script by
- 45:53Speaker 2: Peter Morgan, so they were bringing in all these big,
- 45:55Speaker 2: super high-caliber names. Well now, not only is the project
- 45:59Speaker 2: on hold, but James Bond 23 may be totally scrapped
- 46:03Speaker 2: altogether at this point. Now, at some point, they'll probably
- 46:07Speaker 2: find a way to revive it, and, you know, somebody
- 46:09Speaker 2: will pick it up and they'll put it out. But,
- 46:11Speaker 2: I mean, if you... There's a very small window of
- 46:14Speaker 2: time on these bonds. So, I mean, everybody sort of liked,
- 46:18Speaker 2: at least the first time out, everybody liked Daniel Craig.
- 46:21Speaker 2: So if they put this off for much longer, he's
- 46:23Speaker 2: not going to be James Bond anymore. They're perpetually trying
- 46:27Speaker 2: to throw in, you know, younger, younger, got to keep him,
- 46:30Speaker 2: you know, because Roger Moore got so old towards the
- 46:32Speaker 2: end that ever since then, they're like, by the time
- 46:33Speaker 2: you hit, you know, 40-ish, time to go, we're throwing
- 46:37Speaker 2: you out of there. So... If they push it back
- 46:39Speaker 2: a little more, they're going to have to start... They
- 46:41Speaker 2: mention on here that by the time they get around
- 46:43Speaker 2: to it, they'll be considering Robert Pattinson for the role. Oh, great.
- 46:47Speaker 2: How many people just shuddered a little bit?
- 46:49Speaker 4: I did.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Anyway, so, yeah. I mean, what the hell? I don't
- 46:52Speaker 2: understand what's going on with the whole MGM situation. I mean,
- 46:57Speaker 2: when you've got huge... That's what makes no sense. Huge properties.
- 47:00Speaker 2: I mean, The Hobbit and James Bond. Has anything made
- 47:04Speaker 2: more money than these things in the last, you know,
- 47:06Speaker 2: hundred years? I mean, shit.
- 47:08Speaker 3: I think they could throw anything out, and people would
- 47:10Speaker 3: say it was great. I have to admit, I'd never
- 47:13Speaker 3: really watched a James Bond film that I really even
- 47:16Speaker 3: cared about.
- 47:17Speaker 2: They're all there to be entertaining. I mean, there's a
- 47:22Speaker 2: few along the way that are better than the others.
- 47:24Speaker 2: There's definitely some early on, and even, I guess, a
- 47:28Speaker 2: few of the later ones.
- 47:29Speaker 4: I watched Quantum of Solace. That's the only one I've
- 47:32Speaker 4: ever seen.
- 47:32Speaker 2: See, I still haven't even made it all the way
- 47:34Speaker 2: through that.
- 47:34Speaker 4: I was.
- 47:35Speaker 2: It's just... it's more complicated than it needs to be. Again,
- 47:39Speaker 2: that's what I think they need to do is tighten
- 47:40Speaker 2: up because that script, like midway in, I was just like,
- 47:43Speaker 2: I don't care. Like, I'm not sure what he's doing,
- 47:45Speaker 2: but I don't really care either. So I'm like, they really,
- 47:48Speaker 2: I mean, the old scripts were pretty dumb and, you know,
- 47:51Speaker 2: but it kind of works for that type of movie.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I mean, you watch some of the Roger Morwens and
- 47:55Speaker 2: you're just like, really, this is the plot of this movie. Right. Okay.
- 47:58Speaker 2: This is fun. Blow some more shit up. So, Yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 2: I think they got to the point where, especially after
- 48:04Speaker 2: the first, you know, the Casino Royale was pretty decent
- 48:07Speaker 2: and everybody liked it and they got on board with,
- 48:09Speaker 2: you know, this new Bond. So they wanted to get like, oh,
- 48:12Speaker 2: let's write this big complicated plot. And I just don't care.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Like they got so convoluted and brought in all these
- 48:19Speaker 2: crazy little looping around. I mean, every 10 minutes he
- 48:23Speaker 2: was on a different continent. It was like they constantly
- 48:25Speaker 2: had him globetrotting even more. I mean, they've always done that,
- 48:28Speaker 2: but this one was just like out of control. I
- 48:30Speaker 2: was like, I don't even know why you're going there.
- 48:32Speaker 2: I don't care. And then I gave up and quit watching.
- 48:35Speaker 2: So I'll finish it eventually, but that isn't even the issue.
- 48:39Speaker 2: What I wanted to address is what the hell's going
- 48:42Speaker 2: on with MGM and why is it that somebody who's
- 48:45Speaker 2: sitting on properties this big, what I don't understand is
- 48:47Speaker 2: why is it somebody hasn't just come in and taken
- 48:50Speaker 2: them at this point, just taken over? Because almost everything
- 48:54Speaker 2: in the world at this point is owned by about
- 48:55Speaker 2: seven companies. So why hasn't Time Warner stepped in and
- 48:58Speaker 2: been like, you know what, MGM, we're just going to
- 49:01Speaker 2: go and take over completely or Sony or somebody that's
- 49:05Speaker 2: just sitting on a truckload of money anyway, one of
- 49:07Speaker 2: the few people remaining that still have money that just
- 49:10Speaker 2: come in buy it just for these properties almost to realize, hey,
- 49:14Speaker 2: this is where we're going to make our money from.
- 49:17Speaker 3: I'd like to think being an optimist that they're somebody
- 49:20Speaker 3: that's sitting back in an office going, hell no, I'm
- 49:23Speaker 3: not going to let you touch this and we're not
- 49:24Speaker 3: going to put out crap.
- 49:25Speaker 2: And we're going to maybe– and I can be wrong
- 49:26Speaker 2: about that.
- 49:29Speaker 3: The 007 films, because like I said, I've not really
- 49:32Speaker 3: watched them. To me, I would care enough about The
- 49:35Speaker 3: Hobbit that I would at least hope it would be
- 49:37Speaker 3: good to put out. So maybe there's some executive at
- 49:39Speaker 3: a desk saying, you.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Know what, no.
- 49:41Speaker 3: We're going to hold on to this and we may
- 49:43Speaker 3: fail and we may not put it out for 10 years,
- 49:45Speaker 3: but it's going to be good if we do it.
- 49:47Speaker 3: So that would be the optimist, but I'm sure it's not.
- 49:49Speaker 3: I'm sure it's money and petty money.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Stuff that's that's what made no sense is they like
- 49:54Speaker 2: with both of these they had the like dream team
- 49:57Speaker 2: set up it's like you had the best director possible
- 50:00Speaker 2: to do the hobbit and you bring in an oscar
- 50:02Speaker 2: winning director to do this next james bond movie so
- 50:04Speaker 2: it's like this is it i mean you're not going
- 50:07Speaker 2: to get a better high-end version of either of these
- 50:10Speaker 2: and yet they let those just go to hell so
- 50:12Speaker 2: it's like Now if they do it, it'll be just, oh, well,
- 50:15Speaker 2: let's make a buck. But again, the way Hollywood operates,
- 50:18Speaker 2: I'm surprised somebody hasn't come in. Now this is one
- 50:21Speaker 2: that they said just happened recently, which is sort of
- 50:24Speaker 2: along those lines, but it's just them buying it off.
- 50:27Speaker 2: I'm surprised. I'm thinking I can't believe somebody hasn't just
- 50:29Speaker 2: come in and bought MGM at this point. Some huge
- 50:32Speaker 2: corporation just to salvage it and make what money they
- 50:35Speaker 2: can off of it. But no, this one they said
- 50:37Speaker 2: that they're considering selling off the rights to The Hobbit
- 50:41Speaker 2: to New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers for the extra
- 50:43Speaker 2: cash just to help the studio recover as a whole.
- 50:47Speaker 2: But I like that the story here says, in Monopoly terms,
- 50:49Speaker 2: that's sort of like auctioning off Boardwalk to build houses
- 50:51Speaker 2: on Baltic. I was like, that's pretty clever, huh? Nice. So, yeah,
- 50:57Speaker 2: I don't understand.
- 50:58Speaker 3: I think that's the key to it.
- 50:59Speaker 2: We don't understand. Yeah, nothing they do makes sense to me.
- 51:03Speaker 2: They're greenlighting, you know, Marmaduke, but they can't get money
- 51:06Speaker 2: to put The Hobbit together? You know, there's just something
- 51:09Speaker 2: wrong there.
- 51:10Speaker 4: Have you seen that awful, awful movie that's coming out?
- 51:13Speaker 4: It's like, called Cats and Dogs, The Revenge of.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Kitty, Galore. And they'll make a ton of money on it. Yes,
- 51:19Speaker 2: they will.
- 51:19Speaker 3: That's right. Nickelodeon and Disney will put it on. Well,
- 51:23Speaker 3: maybe not Disney, but Nickelodeon will put it on. Yeah,
- 51:24Speaker 3: Nickelodeon will put it on. But did you see the
- 51:27Speaker 3: first one? It's weird that they're doing a sequel to
- 51:29Speaker 3: a movie from like 10 years.
- 51:30Speaker 4: Ago yeah the cats and dogs movie yeah.
- 51:32Speaker 2: That one wasn't terrible like i remember again being at
- 51:35Speaker 2: the store as we were we ran that because it
- 51:38Speaker 2: was pg and we could run it all day long
- 51:39Speaker 2: so i inadvertently ended up seeing that repeatedly and the
- 51:43Speaker 2: thing is i was like for what it is it's
- 51:45Speaker 2: way more entertaining than most things aimed at kids and
- 51:48Speaker 2: it had a lot of jokes that were sort of
- 51:50Speaker 2: you know worked in for the adults so it wasn't
- 51:52Speaker 2: meant to be a full-on dumb kids movie at the
- 51:55Speaker 2: time And it also was before the level of CGI
- 51:59Speaker 2: animals that is now rampant in every movie in the world.
- 52:03Speaker 2: So it's like, it's funny looking at that old one.
- 52:05Speaker 2: That old one looks like a fucking treat to watch
- 52:08Speaker 2: compared to the, just the trailer. Like I can't even
- 52:10Speaker 2: make it through the trailer on this new one because
- 52:13Speaker 2: it just reeks of Alvin and the chipmunks and Marmaduke
- 52:15Speaker 2: and Garfield and like every bad CGI animal movie. And
- 52:19Speaker 2: it's like, that's why they're making it. And it's no,
- 52:21Speaker 2: you know, no surprise that they're cranking this thing out now. But,
- 52:25Speaker 2: It's sad that just in that small span of time,
- 52:28Speaker 2: it's taken such a left turn on these movies that
- 52:30Speaker 2: are just horribly bad. And people keep taking their kids.
- 52:34Speaker 4: Yes.
- 52:35Speaker 3: Because it'll shut their kid up for an hour and
- 52:36Speaker 3: a half, and they might be able to doze off.
- 52:41Speaker 2: That's what it is. I mean, you're always safe with
- 52:43Speaker 2: family movies because there's always a market for it, and
- 52:46Speaker 2: you're guaranteed to not just sell one ticket, but two
- 52:49Speaker 2: or three or four. You get multiple tickets out of
- 52:52Speaker 2: everybody that sets foot in there.
- 52:54Speaker 4: I think when I have kids, I'm not going to
- 52:55Speaker 4: let them watch kids' movies. I'm going to sit them
- 52:57Speaker 4: down and force them to watch, like, Fellini films only.
- 53:00Speaker 3: These poor, messed-up kids. My daughter loves, you know, The
- 53:04Speaker 3: Last Unicorn and The Iron Giant. So, you know, kids
- 53:08Speaker 3: are smart enough. They figure out what good movies are.
- 53:11Speaker 3: They see, you know, their daycare takes them once a
- 53:14Speaker 3: week to second-run... free movies, I think, just so they
- 53:18Speaker 3: don't have to watch them. And, you know, she comes
- 53:21Speaker 3: home and, I mean, of course, every movie's good, but
- 53:23Speaker 3: she doesn't want to re-watch the bad ones.
- 53:25Speaker 2: So I think they, you.
- 53:27Speaker 3: Know, well, my nephew, I was just talking with him
- 53:31Speaker 3: before I came here, and he was talking about characters
- 53:34Speaker 3: from Barrel Hill's Chihuahua.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 2: And I started, I was making fun of him, of course,
- 53:39Speaker 2: because it's Beverly Hills Chihuahua. And he goes, what?
- 53:41Speaker 3: It's a good movie. And he actually had a defense
- 53:44Speaker 3: of how, why it was good. And, you know, this
- 53:47Speaker 3: is the kid that thought Flubber was a great movie.
- 53:49Speaker 3: So he's evolved at least at 15 now to know that,
- 53:52Speaker 3: you know, there are some redeeming qualities in this movie,
- 53:55Speaker 3: even though it's a crappy movie.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Dog movie. I mean, I almost appreciate that because if
- 54:01Speaker 2: anybody appreciates finding the good things in a terrible movie,
- 54:04Speaker 2: it's me. So yeah, it's good to know that, you know,
- 54:08Speaker 2: somebody out there, hopefully kids growing up are smart enough
- 54:11Speaker 2: to see what's bad. And even if they have to
- 54:12Speaker 2: keep watching this because parents keep taking them there or
- 54:15Speaker 2: their daycare, right. Yeah. They start to weed through and
- 54:17Speaker 2: find out what's good and what's bad. And, and, I
- 54:20Speaker 2: think it's kind of cool that he had a defense too,
- 54:22Speaker 2: that people aren't just going to go like, no, it
- 54:23Speaker 2: was good. We'll back it up with something. Then if
- 54:26Speaker 2: you really think it is, then give me the rundown.
- 54:28Speaker 2: And that's, it's kind of good that any kid out
- 54:30Speaker 2: there is, is willing to take that upon themselves, even
- 54:33Speaker 2: if it is Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Just most high school kids aren't going to admit that
- 54:37Speaker 3: they would watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
- 54:39Speaker 2: So I was kind of, that's kind of cool in
- 54:41Speaker 2: a dorky way. I give him points for that. So,
- 54:45Speaker 2: but the new Steve Carell movie, The one where he's
- 54:49Speaker 2: the evil.
- 54:50Speaker 1: No.
- 54:51Speaker 2: Oh, the anime. Despicable Me. Yeah.
- 54:53Speaker 3: That one looks like it might be worthwhile. Anything that
- 54:56Speaker 3: the evil character brings in adopted children, it looks like.
- 55:02Speaker 2: It might be. It might have its good moments. I'm
- 55:03Speaker 2: not sure. I can't tell. There's so many of those
- 55:05Speaker 2: they're putting out now that you start to lose track.
- 55:08Speaker 2: And then you start to see. It really is the
- 55:10Speaker 2: ones that look awesome right off the bat. You're like, oh,
- 55:13Speaker 2: this is a good one. And you're like, oh, Pixar.
- 55:15Speaker 2: And then there's so many other ones. You're just like.
- 55:18Speaker 2: I think I'm going to hold off on that one.
- 55:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 55:20Speaker 4: Sometimes movies like that will surprise you. I guess I
- 55:23Speaker 4: like anything that's monster or horror related.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Which they're doing a.
- 55:27Speaker 8: Lot of those.
- 55:27Speaker 2: I like Igor.
- 55:28Speaker 4: It was awesome.
- 55:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:29Speaker 2: See, it looked more interesting than most of those. And.
- 55:32Speaker 4: I don't know, just any movie like that about, like,
- 55:35Speaker 4: a monster or something gross. Like, I'm all for it.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Anything about, like, anything scary. You know, like I said
- 55:44Speaker 4: at one of our previous episodes, like, I was raised
- 55:46Speaker 4: on the Beetlejuice cartoon, the Addams Family cartoon, and Ah,
- 55:49Speaker 4: Real Monsters. That shaped who I am as a person, so.
- 55:52Speaker 3: That's my children's new favorite cartoon is the Ah, Real Monsters.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. Four and six, and they just think
- 56:01Speaker 2: that Ickes is the coolest thing ever. Nice. Yeah, they've
- 56:04Speaker 2: been watching that the last few weeks. So we'll get
- 56:08Speaker 2: away from these terrible movies. Okay, I'm sorry. This one
- 56:11Speaker 2: is actually something I'm actually looking forward to on every level.
- 56:15Speaker 2: The property itself, the cast, and the director. So they
- 56:19Speaker 2: have signed up. Okay, well, I still need to address,
- 56:23Speaker 2: dude needs to realize his name's Ralph. I don't care.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Ralph Fiennes needs to realize what country he's in. I
- 56:31Speaker 2: was also thinking I may just start calling him the Wraith.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Wraith Fiennes. That'd be cool. Wraith. So, yeah, the Wraith Fiennes.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Colin Firth, Gary Oldman, Michael Fassbender have all signed on
- 56:44Speaker 2: to star in this adaptation of John LaCarre's Tinker Tailor
- 56:47Speaker 2: Soldier Spy. All of that. You know, his novels are
- 56:50Speaker 2: kind of awesome. Everybody involved is sort of a high-caliber actor. Mm-hmm.
- 56:55Speaker 2: And they're also the it will be the English language
- 56:58Speaker 2: debut of director Tomas Alfredson, whose vampire drama Let the
- 57:02Speaker 2: Right One In, which we were just discussing a week
- 57:04Speaker 2: or so, is an awesome movie. So watching him become
- 57:08Speaker 2: a bigger director is really cool and he deserves it.
- 57:11Speaker 2: And I want to see him, you know, crossover and
- 57:14Speaker 2: be able to make. These big movies that hopefully is
- 57:16Speaker 2: stuff he wants to make and not just things that
- 57:18Speaker 2: will be thrown at him because he's a popular name
- 57:21Speaker 2: at this point.
- 57:21Speaker 4: I kind of would prefer if he would stick with
- 57:25Speaker 4: making his movies.
- 57:26Speaker 2: Yeah. it's probably in everyone's best interest because they would
- 57:31Speaker 2: be less messed with I.
- 57:32Speaker 4: Think once any director starts making Americanized movies it kind
- 57:37Speaker 4: of ruins it not always but.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Not always I mean you've got del Toro is one
- 57:42Speaker 2: of those that I mean went for a long time
- 57:44Speaker 2: made Spanish language Did a couple of them, and then
- 57:47Speaker 2: went back and did, I mean, he still, yeah, kind
- 57:50Speaker 2: of crosses back and forth. And even now, I mean,
- 57:53Speaker 2: I still haven't seen that last one, but I mean,
- 57:54Speaker 2: he's still putting out pretty, even for it being one
- 57:57Speaker 2: of his lesser movies, it's still pretty impressive. So, I mean,
- 58:00Speaker 2: there are a few that can do that, but yeah,
- 58:02Speaker 2: there's a lot of them that once they've come to America,
- 58:04Speaker 2: they've just ruined their career, so. Right. I don't know.
- 58:08Speaker 2: I think based on what I've seen in that, you know,
- 58:10Speaker 2: let the right one in, he's talented enough that I
- 58:13Speaker 2: hope he also has sense enough to steer clear of
- 58:15Speaker 2: that kind of garbage and just, you know, already this
- 58:18Speaker 2: seems like a pretty good high caliber project. So it's like, I,
- 58:21Speaker 2: I kind of want to see it. It's, you know,
- 58:23Speaker 2: a retired intelligence expert is brought back to help, you know,
- 58:27Speaker 2: find a spy. So, I mean, it's kind of a
- 58:29Speaker 2: cool spy story that, you know, if done right, those
- 58:32Speaker 2: are awesome. So, it's like it is one I would
- 58:34Speaker 2: like to see them do a good job, and everybody
- 58:37Speaker 2: involved sounds cool. So, as much as we usually throw
- 58:39Speaker 2: out stories that are us bitching, this was one that
- 58:41Speaker 2: was actually a good story I wanted to put out there.
- 58:43Speaker 2: That does sound good.
- 58:44Speaker 4: Why is the world so obsessed with spies again?
- 58:48Speaker 2: Because they're real again?
- 58:49Speaker 4: I guess.
- 58:50Speaker 2: All of a sudden?
- 58:51Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 58:52Speaker 2: That's probably what pushed this right over.
- 58:53Speaker 4: Those two Russian spies that were recently arrested.
- 58:56Speaker 2: I'm sure this was still in the floundering stage until
- 58:59Speaker 2: that happened. They were like, oh, quick, green light.
- 59:01Speaker 4: Get this out as soon as possible. Every other movie
- 59:05Speaker 4: that's coming out is spy related. Even children's movies, you
- 59:08Speaker 4: know like that cat dog thing.
- 59:09Speaker 3: Oh spy spy that was.
- 59:11Speaker 2: By next door what was the jackie chan oh this
- 59:16Speaker 2: baby sitting spy whatever the.
- 59:18Speaker 4: Hell that was that was bad i think the spy.
- 59:20Speaker 3: I think that came from probably the Vin Diesel movie.
- 59:24Speaker 2: Yeah, the pacifier. It does look exactly like it. It's
- 59:28Speaker 2: the Jackie Chan version of that movie. Oh, yeah. So
- 59:32Speaker 2: that Tinker Tailor at Soldier Spy will start filming in
- 59:35Speaker 2: London in October.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Anything with that unusual of a name, unless it's Percy Jackson,
- 59:40Speaker 3: it's probably going to be pretty good.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Percy Jackson.
- 59:44Speaker 4: God, I kind of want to watch that movie, but
- 59:46Speaker 4: I just can't get past Percy Jackson. It should be
- 59:49Speaker 4: like an old Motown thing or something.
- 59:51Speaker 2: I don't know. I think I have his 45s.
- 59:54Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Percy Jackson. Ow, come on.
- 59:58Speaker 1: All right.
- 59:58Speaker 2: You know what? You love it. It's time for the
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: remakes of the week. Aren't you excited? You get to
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: be here in the middle of the remakes of the
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: week or reimaginings or repurposing. There's there's one that veers
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: off a little, but who cares? It's ridiculous, too. So
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: since they continually remake the same stories over and over again,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: it's a little surprising to discover that there has never
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: actually been a live action English language movie version of
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: Hans Christian Andersen's A Little Mermaid. So as well-known as
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: a fairy tale that is, it's kind of weird that
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: they've never done it. Obviously, the 89 Disney version is
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: huge and became an immediate classic almost.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: And then Ponyo recently.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Yeah, Ponyo. And I guess they reference Splash here. I
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: was going to say, what about Splash? The closest live-action
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: version that we've got.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: What about that movie that has, I don't know, those
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: girls from the... Disney Channel or Nickelodeon Channel.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Aquamarine.
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: Yes, Aquamarine. What about Aquamarine?
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: Who was in that movie?
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: That one girl from all those shows. I think Emma
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Roberts is in it, though. Yeah. Who soon will be
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: a big name.
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: It's just a dorky game. Her show. If they keep
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: telling you enough sooner or later, you'll have to be like, oh, well,
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: I guess she is a star.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: Her show on Nickelodeon was cute.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: So, yeah, the director behind this new Little Mermaid is
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Joe Wright, whose first three films were 2005's Pride and Prejudice,
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: the Oscar-winning Atonement, and last year's The Soloist.
- 1:01:27Speaker 8: Wow.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: So this is.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: Pretty high caliber.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: Yeah, they're going, like, high end on this. So I'm like, well... Good,
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: that's the way to go. Yeah, it's like, I don't
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: know what to think of this idea, but if somebody
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: was going to do it and do not a bad
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: version of it, I could see this, you know, being
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: the guy to give it to. Yeah.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: Is it going to have Amy Adams in it?
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: If it does, it won't work. Now, with that director... Maybe...
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: What's her name? Saoirse Ronan? I think she's... He's actually
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: working on a new one that's like a... Which, oddly enough,
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: a teenage assassination thriller called Hannah that has her... She's
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: the lovely bones girl. So I'm thinking, yeah, that's probably...
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: She might be still right about the right age.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: I hated her in that movie. I hated that movie.
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: That movie was terrible.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: I hated her.
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: That movie angrified me. I just wanted it to be over.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: And I hate when people are like, oh my god,
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: I love that movie, The Lovely Bones.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: I'm like, fuck you.
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: Fuck that movie.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: You're stupid.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: No offense, people.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Well, as long as you're being open-minded about it. That's right.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: All that matters.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: So yeah, little live action, little mermaid. I don't know
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: what to think, but I think.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: If people expect it to be little mermaid, it's gets
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: going to fail. So if it's going to be a
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: very good plot driven, truly Hans Christian Anderson adaptation, which
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: if you've done pride and prejudice, then you can handle it.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: But I, yeah, I think, I think people can handle
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: it if they, as long as they don't think, Where's
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: Ariel and where's Flounder or whatever.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Prince Eric or whoever the hell it was in that one.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: What was the lobster's name?
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Sebastian. Sebastian, yeah.
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: I'll be sad if there's no Sebastian. There better be Sebastian.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm not even going to say it. All right.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: So Mad Max is back again and again and again.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: We discussed the... reboot that they've been trying to do
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: for a while back. But yeah, Australian director George Miller
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: has been trying to get that one off the ground
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: for quite a while. So it's taken so long that
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: I guess at this point he's decided when it finally
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: starts filming, he's going to make two movies. In addition
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: to Mad Max Fury Road, which is the one he's
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: been working on forever now, he's decided he's also going
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: to make Mad Max Furiosa. There's no word what Furiosa
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: might be about, but I guess basically if you've got,
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: you know, people on set, we got all the blowing
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: up cars still on fire over there. Let's, you know,
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: let's keep filming. Film it from another angle and make
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: another movie. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, again, this
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: is one of those that. I don't know that it's
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: such a horrible idea because it's been so long that
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: only the hardcore Mad Max fans really care about those
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: old movies anymore. I think there really is a whole
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: new generation of number one kids and number two, just
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: people who probably didn't care that much about it. Like
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: weren't into that kind of movie back then that if
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: you make it a shiny enough version, you could sucker
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: them into theaters to go see this thing.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Plus there's that whole end of the world 2012 thing
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: going on anyway that everybody's, that's just everybody ever you
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: know the what was the denzel washington movie and oh
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: the book of eli book of eli yeah all that's
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: just it's it's.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Perfect timing for it i think i mean it's always
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: a fun area to make a movie anyway i always
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: i always like those movies but yeah it's funny that
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: they've sort of come back around to being kind of
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: popular and mainstream so again it's the right timing they
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: could make it work um they've got tom hardy who
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: was the handsome bob from rock and rolla and the
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: title character in bronson so he's he's become kind of
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: like yeah he's moving up in the genre rank so
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: i mean i guess this is the crowning achievement if
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: you get to be mad max you've got three movies
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: probably yeah he's the new mad max and uh they've
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: got charlize theron signed on to do something to be
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: herself in a movie so she hasn't done anything Yeah,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: I think at this point she better cash in, not
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: vice versa. But she's a recognizable name. So, I mean, again,
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: with all this thrown at it, I think, and it
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: almost gives me a little hope that it is still
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: George Miller. It isn't them just handing it to, you know,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: who's our terrible director we want to go with here.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: I mean, can we just go with the one we
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: always go by at Michael Bay's?
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: Like, don't hand it to Michael Bay's? No, I wouldn't
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: even think. He's too big for that. I was thinking
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: more of... That would be a lot of cool explosions.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: I mean, you know, there's some times where, you know,
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Michael Bay directing a.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: I mean, stuff would be exploding everywhere.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: It would. But no, it would be bad. It would
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: be bad. It would have Ben Affleck in it. It
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: would be awesome. Yeah. So, yeah, if they give it
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: to just Brett Ratner or somebody else that's just one
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: of their go-to, here, make a reboot, make a bad,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: you know, property that already exists kind of movie, it
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: would worry me more than it is George Miller. His
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: original idea, he's coming back and has been toying with
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: these ideas for years now. So, I mean, I would
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: hope in that way he would take a little time
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: and do something useful with it. It could also backfire,
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: and he's been building up so long that it's just
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: going to be an explosion of mess. It's just going
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: to be, ah, jam everything into these movies because I've
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: been working on it my entire life. So, I mean,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: it could backfire. But I still think I've got a
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: little more hope that he's involved and should be directing
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: the way it looks. Yeah. I think that's kind of cool.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: As long as we don't get a Mel Gibson cameo,
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: I'll be happy.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: No, I'm sure. If he plays his cards right, he's
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: gunning for it. They were in talks. I still haven't
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: heard of them confirming that Mel was going to do it,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: but I'm sure he's going to be there. He'll be
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: the old fat guy on the throne when they get
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: to the end of the movie and the new king
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: of the broken down city is old fat Mel Gibson.
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: There's a movie that it's trying to be like every
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: movie ever made, including Mad Max and then like some...
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: Like Lord of the Rings kind of movie and like
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: vampire movie and then the Warriors. It's called Doomsday.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: Wow. Not the Warriors thrown in?
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Well, just some of the people look like.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Like the other Doomsday? Like the one that came out
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: like that?
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: I think it has like the Kate Beckinsale ripoff girl.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: Like if they can't get Kate Beckinsale, they get this girl. Like,
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: Rona Mitra or Rona Mitra or something like that.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: But, I mean, is this the one that came out, like,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: two years ago or something? Okay, yeah.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that one was, like, I remember.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: It was actually a really good movie.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's, um, the director's the guy that did The Descent. So,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: I mean, it actually, yeah.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: But it's, like, every movie ever made.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: It's sort of, like, a bad idea, but they gave
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: it to a talented person, so it ends up being
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: kind of cool. I still haven't watched it, but just
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: the trailer was, like, yes, this is very Mad Max.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: This is very, like, dead-end drive-in. Yeah, that's.
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: Yeah that's what it is like just the people's uh
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: costumes and stuff like that it reminds me of like
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: the warriors are dead and driving which is such an
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: awesome movie.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: Games in baseball uniform yeah.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Roller skates no they're just nothing will save your ass
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: in the future like roller skates yeah exactly oh lord
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: so yeah i don't know that that's another one i
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: it could potentially be kind of cool could go down
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: the wrong road but we'll have to see how it
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: goes All right. And, uh, to round it out here, the, uh,
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: the relatively so-so box office results on the TV remakes
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: like McGruber, like McGruber and A-Team don't really appear to
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: be intimidating the producers in Hollywood because, um, they're, they're
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: still mining all the 80s sitcoms that they can or,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: or any bad hour drama action show that they can
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: because they've, decided that DreamWorks and producer Walter Parks are
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: currently working on a movie version of the 80s action
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: drama The Fall Guy. Oh, wow. I have to say,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: I kind of like the fall guy. I'm not going
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: to lie. I mean, you got a Hollywood stuntman moonlighting
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: as a bounty hunter. What's bad about that? And you
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: got Lee Majors in the middle of it. And at
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: the time, Heather Thomas was quite on top of my list.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: I was never one for Cheesecake Girls, but for some reason,
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: like that one worked okay when I was 12 or
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: however old I was when that show was on. All
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: of a sudden it was like, hey, those posters they're
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: selling at Spencer's look pretty cool.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Are there any stuntmen in Hollywood anymore?
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: That was going to be my question, though. I mean,
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: we've already had a couple of, you know, I'm thinking,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: you know, a stuntman movie could be cool. But I
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: was like, we had Hooper and we had the stuntman.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: These are all the 70s and 80s versions of it. So, like,
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: now in the post-CGI, you know, green screen effect world...
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: I mean, how much does that change the life of
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: a stuntman, period? Right. But on top of that, also,
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: how much does the technological computer nerdery change the cool, old,
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: rough character that we envision as this stuntperson? It's like,
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: does that change it now that he's hooked up on
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: wires in front of a green screen, just kind of
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: bouncing back and forth? I mean, he's not actually... I mean,
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: there are still plenty of projects that they are throwing
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: themselves off a building and dodging fireballs. There's a lot
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: of them out there still working like that, but... It's
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: a very different world than it was in, you know, 70s,
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: early 80s. They were still making all this stuff. So
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: I don't know. Is it possible to do a version
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: of this now and still have it be, you know,
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: that cool, you know, rough character that we all want
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: it to be? Or is it just going to come
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: off kind of lame? Yeah.
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: As long as they don't go down the Get Smart path,
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: I'll probably be happy.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: See, that's what they do with all those shows. They
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: turn around and try to make it a comedy that
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: realizes it's a comedy. I mean, most of them were
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: funny back in the day, and they had no clue
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: why they were so funny. But now that they're doing it,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: and it's so obvious and so aware of itself as
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: to the funny aspect of it all, it's not funny anymore.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Tell a joke.
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: Wait for the laughter. Face the audience.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: Cheese at the camera. That's what I was going to say.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: The entire cast winking at the audience just drives me nuts.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: It's just not cool. Now, what I was thinking was,
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: I mean, it could be a good idea for a movie.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: But what almost pains me to say this is it
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: occurred to me what would almost be more interesting. And
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: I hate thinking this because I hate this lame, beaten-into-the-ground format.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: but I don't know that this exists. Uh, why isn't
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: there a reality show about stunt people?
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Because to me, it's like people who fucking repo cars.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. I was like, but if somebody
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: has an interesting life, it's like, if you could follow
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: around one or like a group of stunt people and like,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: you know, actually like from movie to movie. So it's
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: going to be a different scenario. It's going to be different,
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: you know, backdrops and other characters and you can have
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: celebrity guest stars. I'm like, who hasn't made this show
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: what idiots out there making you know small people buying
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: shoes what was the what show was that they had
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: a little person but they were watching her buy shoes
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: and i'm.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: Like is that a little couple but no they have
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: one about little people like rescuing pitbulls that i would
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: totally watch i'm like i mean it's.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Cool that you can go buy shoes but why do we.
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: Have to watch yeah they have these stupid fucking spin-offs
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: of these Apparently there's all these like housewives shows. It's
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: just these like gross old cougars who have no lives
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: just being like, catty conniving bitches in their huge houses
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: while their husbands work and they just like sit around
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: and like yeah.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: While their husbands sleep with.
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: Younger yeah they just sit around and get plastic surgery
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: and lay by the pool and tan but then they
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: get fucking spinoffs.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: It's like get a bad mouth at but that's so
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: soap opera yes it will work just fine yeah.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: Then those women get spinoffs i think there's this one
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: show i was watching bravo because i like top chef
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: i watch it all.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: The time You're my new friend. That's my favorite show.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: I mean, some of the reality shows in Bravo are
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: really good. Like, I like the work of art.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: It's kind of stupid, but I just don't like reality.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: The format. I'm just, I'm done with it. I rarely
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: liked it at all. But I mean, if there was
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: something that seemed kind of like a, someone's life, who's
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: actually interesting enough to follow them around, you know, you're
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: watching them get almost blown up or jump off a
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: car or something like that. So, I mean, that seemed
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: like a good idea.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: Things like top chef and things. It's like a game
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: show competition thing. That's why I like those.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: But, I'm done with those two.
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: There's this one on Bravo called Bethany Getting Married. I
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: guess she was just some, I don't know who she is,
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: but I think she was probably just some dumb housewife
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: from one of those shows or something, maybe. I don't know.
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: I mean, I might be wrong, but it's just like,
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: this is the dumbest fucking thing ever. Like, you have
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: a really ugly face. Why do we want to follow
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: you around and watch you try on maternity dresses, like,
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: for a whole hour every day? We don't. I don't know.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Oh God. I don't know. I just, I don't like
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: so many ideas of all these reality shows, but that
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: one occurred to me as like, if there was ever
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: going to be one, why not this one? And why
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: are they throwing money at all these stupid ideas? And
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: to my knowledge, if anybody knows of one out there, Hey,
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: let me know. But I, yeah, I've never seen anything
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: similar to this and it seems kind of cool. So Yeah. Instead,
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: we'll probably get a horrible, cheesing at the camera, Fall
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: Guy movie with Steve Carell. Or The Rock, I don't know.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Probably The Rock. More than likely. Vin Diesel would be perfect. Oh, God, no.
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: I don't like Vin Diesel.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: I'd rather watch The Rock. So, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: That's a horrible idea for... I don't know. Again, I
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: like the old show. If they could do it right,
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: I'd be okay with it. But I'm afraid they're not
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: going to go the stuntman drama version of it. They're
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: going to go the cheesy Brady Bunch movie version. So, yeah.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: That's what I'm afraid of. Starsky and Hutch. Dukes of Hazzard. Fuck.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: They ruined another small part of my childhood.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Yeah. What's wrong with people? Quit screwing up these perfectly
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: good retarded shows and making them more retarded.
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: Right. why isn't there an alf show or alf.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: Movie yet don't don't invite it jesus.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: It's gonna happen i mean it is it's gonna be
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: a girl cgi like garfield movie but why hasn't it
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: happened it is it's probably in production right now i had.
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: A theory that that that uh alf was just like
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: garfield alf is basically garfield but an alien so i
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: think they meant to make.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: A puppet yeah instead of being a cat.
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: That's how they were to make a puppet and really
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: did a bad job like let's just make it an alien.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: This wood is gonna be a cat.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: But i don't know what i can't remember because it's
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: been so long but was he like an operated puppet
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: or was there like a really small person inside.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: No it was a hand yeah It was behind the couch.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: The whole, I mean, they had better ones that you
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: could see him sitting on the couch or something, but
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: I mean, you could see his feet, but most of
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: the time it was a hand doing everything. Yep. Which
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: I appreciate that. Especially now. I long for those days.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: It's the sad part that I'm like, man, why can't
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: more shows be like Alf? That's sad.
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: Didn't think I'd hear myself say that ever.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: The aquaponics were pretty good. The neighbors, they worked. That
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: was about the best characters on the show.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: I just like that he was from Melmac. Oh, Lord. So,
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: I guess that will wrap up the first half here.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: All right. As we wrap up part one, we will
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: invite you to come back and join us for the
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: second entry in our Greedo-esque triple feature. Come back and
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: join us for The Cremators.
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: Sounds awesome.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: Sounds awesome. So does Blood Mania, but we learned the
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: hard way.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: Not so awesome.
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: Come back and join us. Well, I'm not the kind.
- 1:16:54Speaker 10: To kiss and tell But I've been seen with Farrah
- 1:16:58Speaker 10: I've never been with anything less than a nine So
- 1:17:02Speaker 10: fine I've been on fire with Sally Field Gone fast
- 1:17:06Speaker 10: with a girl named Bo But somehow they just don't
- 1:17:10Speaker 10: end up as mine It's a death defying life I
- 1:17:16Speaker 10: lead I take my chances I die for living.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: In the movies and TV But the hardest thing.
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: I ever do is watch my leading lady kiss some
- 1:17:30Speaker 8: other guy while I'm bandaging my knee. I might fall
- 1:17:35Speaker 8: from a tall building. I might roll a brand new car.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Cause I'm the unknown.
- 1:17:42Speaker 8: Stuntman that made Redford such a star.
- 1:17:52Speaker 10: I've never spent much time in school, but I taught
- 1:17:56Speaker 10: ladies plenty.
- 1:17:58Speaker 8: It's true, I hire my body out to pay. Hey, hey,
- 1:18:03Speaker 8: I've gotten burned over Cheryl Teague's blown up old rock
- 1:18:07Speaker 8: and welch.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: But when I wind up in the hay, it's only hay, hay, hay.
- 1:18:13Speaker 8: I might jump an open drawbridge or Tarzan from a vine.
- 1:18:19Speaker 8: Cause I'm the unknown stuntman that makes Eastwood look so fine.
- 1:18:31Speaker 8: They'll never make me president, but I got the best girls, ladies.
- 1:18:36Speaker 8: Some days I've got them as far as the eye
- 1:18:39Speaker 8: can see. A morning dive with Jackie Smith, I crash
- 1:18:45Speaker 8: in the night with Cheryl. But in the end, they
- 1:18:48Speaker 8: never stay with me.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Me.
- 1:18:52Speaker 8: I might fall from a tall building so Bert Reynolds
- 1:18:56Speaker 8: don't get hurt. I might leave a mighty canyon so
- 1:19:00Speaker 8: he can't quit and flirt. While that smooth talker's kissing
- 1:19:05Speaker 8: my girl, I'm just kissing dirt. Yes, I'm the loneliest
- 1:19:09Speaker 8: stuntman that made a lover out of dirt.
