- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hey everyone, welcome to the Almost Simois podcast, where we'll
- 0:09Speaker 2: be breaking down today the Golden Bachelor Episode two. Wowie zowie.
- 0:16Speaker 2: This episode was incredible. Anyone who watches this episode, in
- 0:22Speaker 2: my opinion, will be hooked and we'll be watching every
- 0:26Speaker 2: single week. Last week, I loved it, cute, but it
- 0:29Speaker 2: was night one for me, and now that we are
- 0:30Speaker 2: in this ugh I'm dying for more. Ben, I know
- 0:35Speaker 2: that you feel the exact same way.
- 0:37Speaker 1: You know. I'm interested Ashley. I do feel the same way.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I am interested in your reaction because I can tell
- 0:43Speaker 1: there's a difference in your energy. I know, I know
- 0:47Speaker 1: you know the I think. Last week I came in hot,
- 0:52Speaker 1: fired up, Oh man, it's on TV. Finally, it's super exciting,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and you didn't hate it, but you I liked it.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Was like, okay, I liked it. I honestly didn't feel
- 1:02Speaker 2: a ton different from a regular night one. I just
- 1:07Speaker 2: loved it. This week we started to like see the
- 1:12Speaker 2: big differences in the age.
- 1:16Speaker 1: What do you mean by stories?
- 1:17Speaker 2: The histories?
- 1:18Speaker 1: The history, so the stories, the past experiences talking about
- 1:25Speaker 1: the past and the things that have happened, that is,
- 1:29Speaker 1: those are the moments that really pulled something out of you.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And the way that Gary was so receptive to them.
- 1:36Speaker 2: This man's kindness and warmth and act of listening just
- 1:42Speaker 2: this is where he got to shine. The way that
- 1:44Speaker 2: he uses the women's names, like he's like, oh, Nancy,
- 1:49Speaker 2: and like just relates to it and it's the most
- 1:52Speaker 2: wonderful ways. This was great And it was so freaking
- 1:57Speaker 2: fast the forty minutes, which it is with the commercials,
- 2:01Speaker 2: you're just dying for more and like my mom has
- 2:04Speaker 2: always said, leave people wanting more.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I do think it's a little fast. I think
- 2:10Speaker 1: that's my biggest complaint right now is I would say
- 2:12Speaker 1: it feels like there can be no story development. It's
- 2:17Speaker 1: kind of flies through. We get bits and pieces of
- 2:20Speaker 1: a few women each episode, but we don't get an
- 2:24Speaker 1: overarching We don't get like a secondary story. We get
- 2:28Speaker 1: the main stories of each women, but we don't get
- 2:30Speaker 1: the behind the scenes stories really like maybe we do
- 2:33Speaker 1: on the other shows.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Well, we only had a one one on one and
- 2:36Speaker 2: a group date. We didn't have the third date.
- 2:38Speaker 1: That's a good point that was missing. I think this
- 2:41Speaker 1: show's only going to get better. My point is not that, hey,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I think it's a bit massive mistake. I get it.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I leave people wanting more, you know. I think it's
- 2:47Speaker 1: good with Paradise obviously coming along for the ride now
- 2:51Speaker 1: of the Golden Bachelor, it's it's good to keep it short.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I just think now the episodes are going to get
- 2:56Speaker 1: better because there's going to be less people, and as
- 2:59Speaker 1: there's less they can really start to expand on some
- 3:03Speaker 1: of these storylines that maybe we haven't gotten full pictures
- 3:06Speaker 1: of yet. I do want to highlight before we break
- 3:09Speaker 1: down one section of before you kind of break down
- 3:13Speaker 1: the episode, there is one moment that really stood out
- 3:16Speaker 1: to me with Gary this episode like really blew me
- 3:18Speaker 1: up away. His reaction to when I don't know the
- 3:22Speaker 1: woman's name, but she gave him a compliment and he
- 3:26Speaker 1: looked up this guy He goes, oh my gosh, that
- 3:30Speaker 1: is such a nice thing to say about me. That
- 3:34Speaker 1: means so much. And it was with this like almost
- 3:38Speaker 1: cartoonish genuineness, meaning it was like and it felt like
- 3:43Speaker 1: a very big overreaction to something that was said, but
- 3:47Speaker 1: there was a genuiness that makes me go, this is
- 3:50Speaker 1: just who he is. He is appreciative.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Oh did they find this man? He is such a
- 3:55Speaker 2: freaking treasure. Okay, So I'm thinking, like, how frustrated do
- 4:01Speaker 2: you think that the whole like ABC team is that
- 4:04Speaker 2: this show is an hour and Bachelor of Paradise is
- 4:06Speaker 2: two hours?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Well, I don't think they're I don't think they're. Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I'm sure they're, like, goodness, gracious. I think this was
- 4:13Speaker 1: such a risk and such a test for them that
- 4:16Speaker 1: they knew going in this was either going to be
- 4:17Speaker 1: a massive hit or a massive failure. And I think
- 4:21Speaker 1: they've they've kind of hedged their bets.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Could it have really been a massive failure?
- 4:26Speaker 1: I never thought so, but I know they.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Did because thinking about like what the ratings of like
- 4:31Speaker 2: Zach and Charity season, How could how could this be
- 4:35Speaker 2: a failure? It would have matched, It would have absolutely
- 4:37Speaker 2: matched those ratings.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I know they they I mean, I know they've had shows, right,
- 4:42Speaker 1: They've had many of shows that they've created, actually they
- 4:44Speaker 1: think are going to be huge excesses that never even
- 4:46Speaker 1: get off the ground. I think TV's hard, and I
- 4:49Speaker 1: think this show is so new and so different that
- 4:52Speaker 1: I do think there was that risk that maybe nobody
- 4:54Speaker 1: would tune in maybe people are just over networked network TV,
- 4:58Speaker 1: but as we've mentioned, the show is crushing all of
- 5:01Speaker 1: those things. I think it's changing the way people see
- 5:04Speaker 1: network television. I actually believe people will look back on
- 5:08Speaker 1: The Golden Bachelor and be like, we design content based
- 5:12Speaker 1: on that show because of the success of that show,
- 5:15Speaker 1: and we're going to get these great, heartwarming shows that
- 5:18Speaker 1: tell really incredible stories, that have elements of drama, that
- 5:22Speaker 1: have elements of emotion, elements of little suspense because of
- 5:26Speaker 1: The Golden Bachelor. I think it's that big a show.
- 5:28Speaker 2: It could change Hollywood because they always know actors and
- 5:31Speaker 2: actresses always complained that once they hit a certain age
- 5:34Speaker 2: they can't get roles anymore, and talk about maybe tapping
- 5:38Speaker 2: into some desire that people have to watch older romance movies,
- 5:42Speaker 2: romance movies with older you know leads. Sure, but let's
- 5:46Speaker 2: just tell you, guys, if you haven't listened to the
- 5:48Speaker 2: Headlines episode this week, we do dive deep into the
- 5:50Speaker 2: ratings of this series, and I think that the ratings
- 5:54Speaker 2: are going to go up even more because if you
- 5:57Speaker 2: had caught this this episode, and I know we don't
- 6:00Speaker 2: really like Channel Surf very much anymore, but if somebody
- 6:03Speaker 2: told you got to watch the Golden Bachelor, and you
- 6:05Speaker 2: end up watching episode two. I feel like you are
- 6:08Speaker 2: in for the whole ride.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not stopping Ashley before we get kicked off here,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and we do need to get kicked off and break
- 6:14Speaker 1: down episode. I do want to ask you a very inappropriate,
- 6:16Speaker 1: weird question.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you or my go to for all these questions
- 6:22Speaker 1: in my life that I can't ask my wife, or
- 6:24Speaker 1: that maybe I forgot to ask her before she left
- 6:26Speaker 1: her work.
- 6:26Speaker 2: And then I tell like how much plastic surgery did
- 6:28Speaker 2: the ladies have? No, that's not my question yet, because,
- 6:34Speaker 2: like I said last week's episode, there's some filler in
- 6:37Speaker 2: those chicks.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Go for girls, go for it. You know. My question
- 6:42Speaker 1: is this. Gary is obviously a handsome man. He's very sweet,
- 6:44Speaker 1: he's very kind. Do you think people your age are
- 6:48Speaker 1: watching this with any type of like attraction to Gary
- 6:52Speaker 1: or is it more of a kind of a fatherly
- 6:54Speaker 1: grandfatherly like love and admiration and just the sweetness of Gary?
- 6:59Speaker 1: Or is there or do you think the majority is like, goodness, gracious,
- 7:03Speaker 1: he could leave, you know, he could be around for
- 7:06Speaker 1: a while, Like I like this guy. I would actually
- 7:08Speaker 1: be on this show too, if they would allow, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 1: thirty year olds.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I have the perfect answer to this question. So I
- 7:15Speaker 2: was watching last night with my sister and my friend
- 7:18Speaker 2: was here and she was looking at the TV and
- 7:21Speaker 2: she just could not stop talking about how attracted she
- 7:24Speaker 2: was to him, and like how she literally said that,
- 7:27Speaker 2: like he's the bachelor that she would most want to
- 7:30Speaker 2: get in bed.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I don't even take that offensively, Like I get it.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I mean he's I get it again, I get it,
- 7:39Speaker 2: but like I mean not for me, Like there's quite
- 7:41Speaker 2: a number, Like you know, I was on the show
- 7:43Speaker 2: and very attracted to Chris Soles, and there's so many
- 7:46Speaker 2: of my very attractive friends that you know, like personally,
- 7:50Speaker 2: I like to date more within my age range when
- 7:53Speaker 2: I used to date and but but my sister's the
- 7:55Speaker 2: exact same way. She just thinks that he's so hot,
- 7:58Speaker 2: And I get it, I get it. But I'd also
- 8:02Speaker 2: personally would yeah, I like more matrix. But and then
- 8:07Speaker 2: just to like draw a full picture, we were at
- 8:10Speaker 2: dinner last night and these two ladies in their seventies
- 8:14Speaker 2: came up to us and they were like so sweet.
- 8:15Speaker 2: They're like, you girls are so pretty. And the woman
- 8:19Speaker 2: didn't even know I was on the Bachelor, And for
- 8:23Speaker 2: some reason, the golden Bacheler comes up and she goes, Oh, yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 2: that guy can like get it. The seventy year old
- 8:32Speaker 2: woman goes, oh, that golden Bacheler, he can get it.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Goodness, it's bringing out a side of people I've never
- 8:38Speaker 1: known or seen or heard people talk about. It is.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I mean, it's opening my eyes to a whole new world.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I just learned too much, so much. I wasn't going
- 8:48Speaker 1: to be surprised if you said that you thought your
- 8:51Speaker 1: friends were actually attracted to Gary. I think he would
- 8:56Speaker 1: find that unique and different and something he's never experienced.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I know my wife watches it and she has this
- 9:03Speaker 1: just like love for grandparents. Yeah she does because of
- 9:07Speaker 1: her grandparents, and she just like is is more in
- 9:11Speaker 1: the like sweet like oh he's like I just I
- 9:14Speaker 1: just want to protect him kind of like I just
- 9:15Speaker 1: love him and I just want him happy kind of thing.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 1: But my wife is also not you know, she isn't
- 9:23Speaker 1: as like Ford or expressive or you know, she doesn't
- 9:26Speaker 1: think and maybe the ways that every you know, everybody
- 9:29Speaker 1: else does. She's unique in her in the way that
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know, she doesn't hadn't really dated until we got married,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and so she has just a different kind of like, yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 1: perspective on life and thought when it comes to these things.
- 9:42Speaker 1: But I wasn't going to be surprised that, you know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: college campuses that are now watching The Golden Bachelor at
- 9:48Speaker 1: watch parties are watching this and the girls are going,
- 9:52Speaker 1: oh my gosh, Like I this is the first time
- 9:55Speaker 1: I felt like I've I watched this seventy year old
- 9:58Speaker 1: on TV and I'm like, yeah, he's pretty attractive.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Or really funny, exactly like I have an appreciation for it.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Am I dress like, he's very handsome, he's so sweet,
- 10:06Speaker 2: Like I would love to have him as part of
- 10:09Speaker 2: my family. Yeah, but just yeah, like I just am
- 10:13Speaker 2: that girl who's always just been like, oh, is he
- 10:15Speaker 2: within like ten years of my age? Okay then yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 2: but like even ten years seemed like a stretch to me.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I just like I am the personality that I feel
- 10:22Speaker 2: like we need to like generationally relate.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah, hot uncle Gary. That's who he could be in
- 10:28Speaker 1: my family is hot uncle Gary. Okay, we're gonna take
- 10:31Speaker 1: a break here, Ashley, before we start breaking down the
- 10:33Speaker 1: episode I do want to tease this. There is something
- 10:37Speaker 1: about Gary that gave Jessica and I the ick. What
- 10:43Speaker 1: really we're gonna talk about when we get back. You know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I think breaking down the Golden Bachelor Ashley is best
- 10:58Speaker 1: done in kind of highlight because there it's a short
- 11:01Speaker 1: episode right way.
- 11:03Speaker 2: It's just like flashes.
- 11:04Speaker 1: It's flashes and and some of the things here is
- 11:08Speaker 1: the girls are waking up in the mansion, which is
- 11:10Speaker 1: really fun for me to watch because the mansion is
- 11:13Speaker 1: is a lot. I don't know about your experience in
- 11:16Speaker 1: the mansion, but when I was on the Bachelor app
- 11:18Speaker 1: they did not make those rooms as nice and cute
- 11:21Speaker 1: and like, ok.
- 11:22Speaker 2: They did for these women.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I mean those rooms look pretty nice. When I was
- 11:26Speaker 1: very kind of look like a like a like a
- 11:29Speaker 1: bad dorm room. Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 2: I was like, what's up with the plush comforters and
- 11:35Speaker 2: like the cute matching stuff like where are looked like
- 11:39Speaker 2: more of like a like a campsite.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah, And they never got shown on TV. You know,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I've talked many times about, you know, the interesting part
- 11:48Speaker 1: about the mansion, and I do think that the viewers
- 11:51Speaker 1: were kind of shocked by the bunk bed situation. I
- 11:54Speaker 1: get it. I understand that, uh, you know, having bunk
- 11:57Speaker 1: beds for these women, it's crazy. But the mansion is
- 12:00Speaker 1: not that big upstairs. There is not many rooms. There's
- 12:03Speaker 1: very few bathrooms, and and I know my issue. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 1: there's only a few bathrooms. We've talked about it before. Yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 1: when you have a bunch of guys on a show,
- 12:13Speaker 1: weird things happen in those bathrooms, and those bathrooms become disgusting,
- 12:17Speaker 1: absolutely disgusting.
- 12:19Speaker 2: You guys are weird. I gotta say, you guys are weird.
- 12:22Speaker 1: We're very odd. We're very odd.
- 12:24Speaker 2: You know, Like, I don't know why it would get disgusting,
- 12:26Speaker 2: but knowing Jared, yeah, like you guys just like have
- 12:31Speaker 2: a thing. I don't know, let's not get into it.
- 12:34Speaker 1: We do have a thing, and things get weird.
- 12:37Speaker 2: It gets exactly like I'm like, I never would have
- 12:39Speaker 2: known that things get weird in the bathroom until like what.
- 12:43Speaker 1: You can ask Jared all about it.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Do I have to bring a blue light in the
- 12:46Speaker 2: bathroom or something?
- 12:48Speaker 1: One hundred percent you should. But these women walk in
- 12:51Speaker 1: you know, again, I talked about it last week and
- 12:54Speaker 1: I won't go far into it this week, but I
- 12:57Speaker 1: do think it's really fun, probably for all these women
- 13:00Speaker 1: to have sleepovers. I'm imagining because I don't know how
- 13:03Speaker 1: often they have like sleepovers now in their life. Maybe
- 13:08Speaker 1: every once in a while their friends get together and they're like, hey,
- 13:10Speaker 1: let's go on a girls trip. But they all seem
- 13:13Speaker 1: very excited to be in this mansion. There was no
- 13:16Speaker 1: complaining really like we see in other seasons where they
- 13:19Speaker 1: entered into the mansion, and you know it even if
- 13:21Speaker 1: it wasn't shown on television, like when the guys or
- 13:25Speaker 1: the girls walk up for the first time, like this
- 13:28Speaker 1: is where we're staying. Yeah, like there is a lot
- 13:31Speaker 1: of complaining. That's kind kind of like that.
- 13:33Speaker 2: But at the same time, it's like also so surreal
- 13:35Speaker 2: to see your name on the bunk that you're just like,
- 13:37Speaker 2: it's fine, I can't believe I'm here and that you
- 13:40Speaker 2: just got through a row ceremony and all that. But yeah,
- 13:42Speaker 2: you're definitely like believe me. I must have said out loud,
- 13:46Speaker 2: like the bathroom situation, like how am I supposed to
- 13:49Speaker 2: go in privacy? Like how am I supposed to even
- 13:52Speaker 2: shower in privacy? Because I've just been that girl. I've
- 13:54Speaker 2: always been that person. That's like, nobody sees my naked body.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Not because I'm not confident, it's just like, A'm very private.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Yeah you're not. When you get into that mansion, everything
- 14:02Speaker 1: is wide open, everything is to be seen, Everything is
- 14:05Speaker 1: shared every like, there's people in and out at all times.
- 14:09Speaker 1: It is a very weird experience. But we do see
- 14:12Speaker 1: the women enter into the mansion and then we see
- 14:14Speaker 1: Gary pull up. Gary is shining. I mean, this dude
- 14:20Speaker 1: is talk about him hitting his peak. I don't know
- 14:25Speaker 1: if we'll see another peak for Gary this season, but
- 14:28Speaker 1: him pulling up in that vintage convertible up up to
- 14:31Speaker 1: the mansion, to me, I was just like, yeah, this like,
- 14:35Speaker 1: you could not have picked anybody better. You can't. You couldn't.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I mean, he's he's so he's just so good at it.
- 14:41Speaker 1: He's so relaxed in a position that would.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Be so I was saying throughout the entire episode, how
- 14:47Speaker 3: is this dude who's plucked from obscurity so comfortable in
- 14:51Speaker 3: front of the cameras, so comfortably emotionally in front of
- 14:54Speaker 3: the cameras.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Just if there's an ease about him.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It's incredible, Actually, I asked the producer, serious yesterday I
- 15:02Speaker 1: had a phone call with some of them and I said, Hey,
- 15:03Speaker 1: did you give Gary more training than you would have
- 15:06Speaker 1: given me? Like, did you prep him in a different way,
- 15:08Speaker 1: or you know, have the procedures to getting the person
- 15:12Speaker 1: ready to be the lead changed? I mean we also
- 15:15Speaker 1: have to remember Gary wasn't a part of a previous season. Right,
- 15:18Speaker 1: he is the start, so he does not have the
- 15:20Speaker 1: camera experience, so.
- 15:22Speaker 2: We always have a trial run basically with the lead.
- 15:25Speaker 2: They were picked because they are comfortable with the camera,
- 15:28Speaker 2: because they're dynamic and like people are drawn to them
- 15:31Speaker 2: through the screen. They didn't even know.
- 15:33Speaker 1: They didn't give him any more training than they would
- 15:35Speaker 1: have given me. Like there was some conversations about Gary,
- 15:38Speaker 1: how do you feel about this? Are you ready? I
- 15:40Speaker 1: do think it comes down to life experience and wisdom
- 15:44Speaker 1: that helps him navigate this, because I don't think there's
- 15:48Speaker 1: any conversation that he's going to be in or any
- 15:51Speaker 1: moment that he's going to be I'm sure he's nervous,
- 15:54Speaker 1: but I don't think he's gonna be surprised, Like, I
- 15:58Speaker 1: don't think he I think he's prob'll been through all
- 16:00Speaker 1: of these before. Right, he sat down with people who
- 16:03Speaker 1: have experienced lost. He's walked into rooms where there's a
- 16:06Speaker 1: bunch of people with their eyes on him. As as
- 16:10Speaker 1: a business owner, I'm sure he's given talks and speeches
- 16:12Speaker 1: to his team, you know, as he stands up in front.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I just think he has the experience, which I think
- 16:19Speaker 1: he's uniquely good at it. I don't want to discredit
- 16:22Speaker 1: him as a person here, but I do think life
- 16:24Speaker 1: experience probably plays into this a little bit.
- 16:26Speaker 2: How do you think that the producers interacted with him
- 16:29Speaker 2: being him being an elder, because normally we're peers, if
- 16:32Speaker 2: not there a couple years older than us.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I've asked this question too to the people that would
- 16:38Speaker 1: be in the know. You know, with my season, there's
- 16:41Speaker 1: some leads that really want to be coached, you know,
- 16:44Speaker 1: they want to have a producer there. They want to
- 16:48Speaker 1: take the break and walk away from conversations and be like, hey,
- 16:51Speaker 1: how do you feel about what's going on? Is you know,
- 16:53Speaker 1: is there a question I should ask is or something
- 16:55Speaker 1: I should say? Or you know in past season, sometimes
- 16:57Speaker 1: the leader like, I would love for you to step
- 16:59Speaker 1: in during these dates and kind of help us along
- 17:03Speaker 1: because it's going to get awkward. When I started my season.
- 17:06Speaker 1: One of the conversations we had was I said, I
- 17:08Speaker 1: would like you to leave me alone, because if it
- 17:10Speaker 1: gets awkward, let it get awkward. I'm you know, that's
- 17:13Speaker 1: just part of it. If it's not awkward and kind
- 17:15Speaker 1: of in a rhythm, then let us let us sit
- 17:19Speaker 1: there in that in that rhythm, like I don't want
- 17:21Speaker 1: to be getting pulled. I don't want you to kind
- 17:22Speaker 1: of make this less real than it already feels. And
- 17:26Speaker 1: they said with Gary, he didn't really know what to
- 17:28Speaker 1: ask for, right, he didn't know that he was going
- 17:31Speaker 1: he would he wanted them to stay away. They said
- 17:34Speaker 1: they didn't have to be around, like they could have
- 17:35Speaker 1: never even been there like that. He just did this,
- 17:38Speaker 1: like he asked the right questions. He was engaged, he
- 17:41Speaker 1: was interested, and so no, I don't think they treated
- 17:43Speaker 1: him differently other than the fact that they just stepped back, Yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 1: which is which I think does bring you know, I
- 17:51Speaker 1: would give if I would give my my my the
- 17:53Speaker 1: season to the Bachelor. I was on one compliment because
- 17:57Speaker 1: I did it. I was in it, like there was
- 17:59Speaker 1: a a realness to it. There was a vulnerability and
- 18:02Speaker 1: a legitimacy to each conversation because they weren't coached, and
- 18:05Speaker 1: I think we're seeing that with Gary, where you're like,
- 18:08Speaker 1: he's not just trying to pull out everybody's really deep stories.
- 18:13Speaker 1: There's other conversations going on that matter to him, and
- 18:17Speaker 1: there's a genuineness to these conversations. And I think we
- 18:21Speaker 1: contangibly feel as we watched on the screen because it
- 18:24Speaker 1: isn't coached.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I completely agree. All right, Well let's get into
- 18:27Speaker 2: that first date with Teresa, who was one of the
- 18:31Speaker 2: two that he kissed on night one. She made him
- 18:33Speaker 2: comment she was like, you kiss me. I was like, girl,
- 18:36Speaker 2: you kiss him. But okay, our vision is history. Their
- 18:42Speaker 2: date was very cute at a diner, and I was
- 18:46Speaker 2: pointing out the fact that their date was actually probably
- 18:49Speaker 2: the length of a normal first date. They left at night,
- 18:53Speaker 2: they went to a diner, there was a dance afterward,
- 18:56Speaker 2: and they went home. It wasn't this whole all day process.
- 19:00Speaker 2: And I kind of liked that.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Sure, I think it was. And I think Gary relating
- 19:07Speaker 1: it back to kind of his I mean, the fact
- 19:09Speaker 1: that he's seventy years old and that he's you know,
- 19:11Speaker 1: said I now seventy two, that he used to take
- 19:14Speaker 1: people the diners I think was cute. I do think
- 19:18Speaker 1: we would be remiss if we did not talk about
- 19:22Speaker 1: the car ride there.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, which they were petrified. I was like, guys, were
- 19:27Speaker 2: they scared of the convertible factor or just driving in la.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Ashually, this is the brilliance of the show coming out right.
- 19:33Speaker 1: There's no producers in that car. There's no producers in
- 19:36Speaker 1: his ear. This is just the two of them probably
- 19:38Speaker 1: forgetting that they're even on camera because there's like a
- 19:41Speaker 1: little GoPro pro in the side. They've probably totally forgotten it.
- 19:45Speaker 1: And they're in their seventies, right in late sixties, and
- 19:49Speaker 1: so you know, I don't know if your parents are
- 19:51Speaker 1: this way yet, but my parents don't love to drive
- 19:55Speaker 1: at night, like they have night classes.
- 19:56Speaker 2: My gosh, my mom like won't drive at night.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Now.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, I land at this time, and she's like, well,
- 20:03Speaker 2: I can't see at night, so you know, I'll have
- 20:05Speaker 2: Lauren pick you up.
- 20:06Speaker 1: So this is such a real moment where we're like,
- 20:08Speaker 1: this is I was dying laughing, but also feeling for
- 20:12Speaker 1: the two of them because they are so nervous because
- 20:15Speaker 1: he's in a convertible and he keeps saying on in La,
- 20:18Speaker 1: you know, and the busy highway, you know, on the interstate,
- 20:22Speaker 1: driving through traffic. He goes, it's crazy, it's wild, Like
- 20:25Speaker 1: this is such a real inventure. This is an adventure
- 20:29Speaker 1: and it's so cute and you know that when she
- 20:34Speaker 1: put her hand on his shoulder, he was just calm.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I appreciate that. Oh sweet, this is stuff we didn't get.
- 20:43Speaker 2: The other s show like that would just be like
- 20:46Speaker 2: a yeah, you put my arm on your shoulder because you.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Think I'm hot. Yeah, picture this picture this. I am
- 20:52Speaker 1: the Bachelor. I go on my first date with somebody.
- 20:55Speaker 1: We're driving a convertible, which we did. We just happened
- 20:57Speaker 1: to have Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in the back seat,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and at the time it was Kayla Quinn. She puts
- 21:03Speaker 1: her hand on my shoulder, Like how weird would have
- 21:05Speaker 1: been if at the end of that I said, hey,
- 21:06Speaker 1: when you put your hand on my shoulder, it just
- 21:09Speaker 1: it just really hit Mentalodic really called me like I
- 21:12Speaker 1: could have I could have said that, but he can
- 21:15Speaker 1: because it's so real and it's so relatable and we
- 21:17Speaker 1: all know our parents and grandparents who feel the same
- 21:21Speaker 1: way and would say the same thing. And we would
- 21:23Speaker 1: go that's just sweet.
- 21:25Speaker 2: So sweet. So at of course the dinner, they discuss
- 21:30Speaker 2: the losing the loss of their spouses. She was married
- 21:35Speaker 2: to her high school sweetheart for thirty two years. His
- 21:38Speaker 2: kidneys weren't good, and she just talks about how she
- 21:44Speaker 2: like had like three days kind of knowing that it
- 21:47Speaker 2: was going to be the end, and she got a
- 21:49Speaker 2: call from him that she wasn't doing well at home,
- 21:53Speaker 2: and then she watched him take his last breath at home.
- 21:56Speaker 2: And he's been gone for eight years now, and just
- 22:01Speaker 2: the way that you know, they're able to relate on
- 22:03Speaker 2: stuff like this, it is quite beautiful and so sad.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Well, and we've seen this, right, This is not a
- 22:12Speaker 1: this is not a unique you know, situation for so
- 22:15Speaker 1: many of them at this point in their life. And
- 22:17Speaker 1: I think, you know, for for for me, and I
- 22:21Speaker 1: sit there with my wife and I now get to
- 22:23Speaker 1: watch this. As I mentioned, I'm very just excited I
- 22:25Speaker 1: get to watch it with Jess and that we're both
- 22:27Speaker 1: so into it. And when these stories get presented like
- 22:32Speaker 1: it does bring up a different conversation for us of hey, like,
- 22:36Speaker 1: this is a reality for so many and this is
- 22:39Speaker 1: really hard and you know, life is you know life
- 22:44Speaker 1: is short and we got to take advantage of these
- 22:45Speaker 1: times like this is what comes from the show for
- 22:47Speaker 1: me is those like wow, hun, like this could be
- 22:50Speaker 1: you one day sitting there and like how would you
- 22:55Speaker 1: want to handle that next season of life for yourself?
- 22:58Speaker 1: And like, yes, it's not fun to talk about, and
- 23:00Speaker 1: yes it's weird to talk about, but it is what
- 23:02Speaker 1: brings out. These conversations come out of watching this because
- 23:08Speaker 1: when you're when you're engaged in the show, you are
- 23:11Speaker 1: obviously talking about the show at every turn and every moment,
- 23:14Speaker 1: and you're saying, oh my gosh, how sweet is it today?
- 23:16Speaker 1: We're so nervous to drive there, and then she brings
- 23:18Speaker 1: this up and you go, honey, like we've never talked
- 23:21Speaker 1: about what I dream for you if this were happened to.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Tell you want to say, what's your answer?
- 23:28Speaker 1: You know, I think at that point in time, like
- 23:30Speaker 1: I'm gone. You know, I want her to continue on
- 23:33Speaker 1: with the with the memory of me, which would be amazing,
- 23:37Speaker 1: like if she had such admiration, But I also don't
- 23:41Speaker 1: want her to be alone, like I would never want
- 23:43Speaker 1: her to be alone, and she she doesn't want to
- 23:45Speaker 1: be alone, but she can't even think about it, right,
- 23:47Speaker 1: she can't even get there.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Seeing as you say this, I just think like, I
- 23:52Speaker 2: don't want to think about it at this point because
- 23:53Speaker 2: I don't know what I would be like at that age,
- 23:56Speaker 2: and I don't know what I would feel like at
- 23:57Speaker 2: that age.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But if it happened now, oh god, Yeah, this is
- 24:01Speaker 1: the stuff that comes out of this. And yes, that
- 24:04Speaker 1: feels heavy and dark, But then the show brings us
- 24:07Speaker 1: back to really great moments, which is obviously then the
- 24:10Speaker 1: people dancing in the diner and the two of them
- 24:13Speaker 1: having fun and holding their hands across the table and
- 24:16Speaker 1: hands across the table.
- 24:17Speaker 2: It's like cemented in my mind now as one of
- 24:21Speaker 2: the most I don't know, there is something about that like.
- 24:23Speaker 1: An iconic scene.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like a core memory of the Golden Bachelor now,
- 24:28Speaker 2: just the holding hands so tightly, like in like we're
- 24:31Speaker 2: in solidarity, and not in like a romantic sense, but
- 24:34Speaker 2: more of like the I'm there for you sense that
- 24:36Speaker 2: you don't see on the regular show. And also there
- 24:41Speaker 2: is that moment where there's two here, we got a
- 24:44Speaker 2: quote here. It says a gentle touch and a few words,
- 24:47Speaker 2: and they are back to hopefulness in their future.
- 24:51Speaker 1: In the future, yeah, gentle touch and a few words,
- 24:53Speaker 1: they're back to hopefulness in the future. Yeah, I mean.
- 24:56Speaker 1: And I think the the holding hands is symbolic in
- 25:00Speaker 1: a lot of ways actually, because neither of them want
- 25:03Speaker 1: to be where they're at right. Neither of them dreamed
- 25:06Speaker 1: of sitting across the table with somebody new. Nobody dreamed.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Neither of them really dreamed of being on this show.
- 25:12Speaker 1: This wasn't a plan, this wasn't a want for them,
- 25:17Speaker 1: But they find themselves in this moment. And so in
- 25:20Speaker 1: this moment, what are they gonna do. They're gonna make
- 25:22Speaker 1: the best of it, and they're gonna sit there and
- 25:24Speaker 1: be like I got you, Like I'm here no matter
- 25:26Speaker 1: what this plays out, like, no matter if we end
- 25:27Speaker 1: up together or not, Like, I just want you to
- 25:29Speaker 1: know you're not alone, which is what we talk about
- 25:32Speaker 1: on this podcast so often, right, is the desire to
- 25:35Speaker 1: help people feel less alone. And I think this moment,
- 25:39Speaker 1: that holding the hands is symbolic of the Golden Bachelor
- 25:41Speaker 1: in a lot of ways because it is showing you're
- 25:44Speaker 1: not alone, Like, I know this sucks. I know you
- 25:47Speaker 1: don't want to be here. I know this is you're
- 25:49Speaker 1: making the best of a really.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Terrible situation, the backup plan.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yeah, this is not this is not what you would
- 25:56Speaker 1: have dreamed of. But we're here, So what are we
- 25:58Speaker 1: gonna do with this? Hold each other's hands. We're gonna
- 26:01Speaker 1: have a lot of fun. We're gonna do this thing
- 26:04Speaker 1: as best we can, and then we're gonna see if
- 26:06Speaker 1: possibly maybe you and I can spend the rest of
- 26:09Speaker 1: our days together.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And then I'm gonna lean across the table and say,
- 26:14Speaker 2: I really like you. And it's so powerful, so good,
- 26:19Speaker 2: so horriful, and I wanted to I want to know this.
- 26:23Speaker 2: And I know this may sound really like naive and
- 26:25Speaker 2: like immature young of me, But when he says I
- 26:29Speaker 2: really like you, is he saying like, I really appreciate
- 26:33Speaker 2: you as a person and I love being in your company.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Or do you think he's like, you give me butterflies
- 26:37Speaker 2: and I'm gonna think about you in bed tonight. I'm
- 26:40Speaker 2: not gonna think about you in bed like sexually, but
- 26:42Speaker 2: like I'm gonna like daydream of you when I'm about
- 26:44Speaker 2: to go to sleep.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's mostly at this point.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I think he's just still in shock that he's even
- 26:50Speaker 1: sitting here and he's just like, I like everybody like
- 26:52Speaker 1: this is I've never had this much attention in my life.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I'm into you, and I'm into you, and I think
- 26:56Speaker 1: you're great, and I think you're great. And I would
- 26:59Speaker 1: like to assume, because I'm selfish, that Gary has a
- 27:04Speaker 1: similar thought process that I had, where it's like, you know,
- 27:07Speaker 1: no matter what, I just hope that all these women
- 27:09Speaker 1: here feel like they matter a little bit, a lot,
- 27:15Speaker 1: a bit. And then I'm really thankful they came all right.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Group date, we have a photo shoot with Franco, because
- 27:22Speaker 2: of course we do, and of course we have another
- 27:24Speaker 2: wedding dress date. And I am sitting here with my
- 27:29Speaker 2: friend Naz, who was a producer on the show, and
- 27:31Speaker 2: I go, oh my god, the wedding dress dirts girl.
- 27:34Speaker 2: And she's like, the reason they do it is because
- 27:36Speaker 2: it always pays off, because there's always some emotion in it.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And that's so now I'm like okay, and she's like,
- 27:44Speaker 2: here we are with Nancy. Nancy's getting emotional because the
- 27:48Speaker 2: last time she was in a wedding dress, of course,
- 27:49Speaker 2: was when she married her husband, who has now gone
- 27:52Speaker 2: for quite some time. And he just she he's just
- 27:56Speaker 2: the freaking cutest, the way that he came up to her,
- 27:59Speaker 2: just like, is it me? Is it the situation? I
- 28:02Speaker 2: was like, of course, it's not you, Gary. And then
- 28:06Speaker 2: when they shared the story about, you know, the wedding dress,
- 28:09Speaker 2: bringing back the memory of the best day of her life,
- 28:12Speaker 2: and then he was like, it hits you out of nowhere.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I had this moment where I was walking by a
- 28:18Speaker 2: batch of cinnamon cookies and it made me break down
- 28:21Speaker 2: because my wife used to make cinnamon balls, and their
- 28:24Speaker 2: bond over this was just perfect. Then he gives her
- 28:28Speaker 2: the group date rows, and I love the way a
- 28:30Speaker 2: women don't really get jealous over the group day rows.
- 28:33Speaker 2: They're just like, oh, good for her, you know, as
- 28:35Speaker 2: long as I'm here at the end of the day.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I think the one word was I love Nancy. She
- 28:41Speaker 1: deserves it. Yeah, so good. Yeah, I mean the photo shoot.
- 28:47Speaker 1: You know, you and I have talked about many seasons.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's not something that like fires us up, but I
- 28:52Speaker 1: do think you touched on the most important part is
- 28:53Speaker 1: that Nancy's emotions came out. I think once again we
- 28:57Speaker 1: saw Nancy or this situation and become very real. I
- 29:02Speaker 1: will say that I don't think Nancy is gonna be
- 29:03Speaker 1: around for a while, not because she gets sent home,
- 29:05Speaker 1: but I do think I could see it in her
- 29:08Speaker 1: eyes as a fan without knowing anything, that it just
- 29:10Speaker 1: gets overwhelming for her, that this becomes too much, and
- 29:14Speaker 1: you know, as much as she's ready for it, that
- 29:15Speaker 1: this whole thing, it felt like she was sitting there
- 29:18Speaker 1: being like, I don't know, like I wasn't ready or
- 29:20Speaker 1: I'm not ready, or maybe this isn't for me. Yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 1: but she does get the group day Rose. The final
- 29:27Speaker 1: scene of the episode is that Gary has a birthday
- 29:30Speaker 1: party thrown for him. Everybody's celebrating him. It's really fun
- 29:34Speaker 1: to see. I hope it was a lot of fun.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Sometimes those parties at the mansion are so awkward and weird,
- 29:40Speaker 1: but this doesn't feel that weird.
- 29:41Speaker 2: And uncomfortable cocktail party and it was, Yeah.
- 29:45Speaker 1: It was the cocktail party, so it replaced it. We
- 29:49Speaker 1: did have a massive character and person I really liked.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I didn't know if they were best for Gary, but
- 29:55Speaker 1: I really liked her Natasha.
- 29:57Speaker 2: She was hilarious, really sad. Episode. One of the greatest.
- 30:02Speaker 2: So yes, she gets eliminated at the row ceremony, but
- 30:06Speaker 2: one of the greatest moments of franchise history is at
- 30:09Speaker 2: the end when she's just like, why don't we have stools?
- 30:12Speaker 2: We need stools. We are sixties and seventies and we
- 30:17Speaker 2: can't stand in a row, And her passionate about it
- 30:20Speaker 2: was like every every girl who's ever been on the
- 30:22Speaker 2: show was like, yes, Natasha, not just you guys, you
- 30:27Speaker 2: especially should have stools, but maybe all of us should
- 30:29Speaker 2: have stools because those things last way too long to
- 30:31Speaker 2: be standing still in heels.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I love that she said it, and I think it
- 30:36Speaker 1: would have been a great ad for this show. I
- 30:40Speaker 1: think it'd been hilarious for all of them to be
- 30:41Speaker 1: sitting down like.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I think it'd be in the next row ceremony. Could
- 30:44Speaker 2: you imagine the next row ceremony they all have stools,
- 30:46Speaker 2: which the stools is gonna look classy. Get some velvet stools.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think it would be a great idea. I really
- 30:52Speaker 1: like Natasha. In fact, halfway through this episode, I told
- 30:55Speaker 1: Jess she is my favorite because I just love when
- 30:57Speaker 1: she comes on television. She's always having a good time,
- 31:00Speaker 1: she's always making good jokes. She's always there to like
- 31:04Speaker 1: to brighten up whatever is going on, and so I
- 31:07Speaker 1: am sad that she's gone, but the ones that are
- 31:09Speaker 1: left are April, Leslie Joe.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Let's just quick quick mention about Leslie because he does
- 31:17Speaker 2: corner her and say, how does it feel to present
- 31:20Speaker 2: yourself in such a sexy way?
- 31:22Speaker 1: Oh?
- 31:24Speaker 2: I know, I mean I was like, ohh, he's got
- 31:28Speaker 2: the He actually see he likes her, so he's got
- 31:30Speaker 2: the hots for her.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Yeah, he wants to make out. Leslie's on his mind. Joan, Edith, Ellen, Sandra, Susan, Christina, Faith, Nancy, April, Kathy,
- 31:43Speaker 1: and obviously Teresa are left going into next week. In
- 31:48Speaker 1: the next week's preview, we got a hot air balloon date.
- 31:51Speaker 1: We do see Kathy getting emotional. Women are starting to
- 31:54Speaker 1: get jealous, which I did not think we would see eventually.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Eventually I imagined it.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think that when emotions get high
- 32:02Speaker 1: and attraction runs deep, then obviously people start to get
- 32:07Speaker 1: more invested and jealousy comes out.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Well. Ben and I are done with recapping the episode,
- 32:12Speaker 2: but we still want more thoughts, and we want the
- 32:15Speaker 2: thoughts from somebody of the age group, ish of the cast,
- 32:21Speaker 2: and to this week we have one of our producers, Kendall.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Her grandmother has agreed to give us her thoughts. Big
- 32:28Speaker 2: fan of the whole franchise. She's an eighty seven year
- 32:31Speaker 2: old and we cannot wait to hear from her. Let's
- 32:35Speaker 2: get her on.
- 32:46Speaker 1: All right, Well, we have a very special guest today.
- 32:49Speaker 1: As we mentioned, we have one of our producers, grandmother's
- 32:54Speaker 1: on lovingly name. Can we call you Mamy?
- 32:57Speaker 4: Absolutely?
- 32:58Speaker 1: All right, Mamie, let's get star. You were just sharing
- 33:01Speaker 1: with Ashley and I that you keep a scoreboard every episode.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Every episode of the Bachelor, right, and now you've added
- 33:08Speaker 2: a scoreboard to your viewing of.
- 33:10Speaker 4: The Golden Bachelorret that's correct.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Okay, great? So what does the scoreboard mean?
- 33:16Speaker 4: It means who I think couldn't get cut? What little
- 33:20Speaker 4: notes about them? So?
- 33:22Speaker 2: Who was on your list initially on this episode?
- 33:26Speaker 4: Everybody?
- 33:27Speaker 2: Oh, everybody was on the chopping blox.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Everybody makes the list, Ashley, everybody needs a point and then.
- 33:33Speaker 2: You okay, okay, okay, okay. So what I mean I
- 33:38Speaker 2: guess is like, think throughout the episode, who were you like?
- 33:43Speaker 2: All right, she's probably a goner.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Oh well, you know with the Bachelor, they always keep
- 33:51Speaker 4: somebody that's a little rough around the edges.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, So.
- 33:57Speaker 4: I I'm not a fan of pathy. Okay, I think
- 34:02Speaker 4: she's a little rough, and I don't think that's first
- 34:04Speaker 4: of all, he's wonderful mm hmm. But I think she's
- 34:08Speaker 4: a little rough.
- 34:09Speaker 1: And Ellen, you don't like Alan, No, she's entitled to
- 34:14Speaker 1: her own opinions. Here, Ashley, what's the note that you
- 34:21Speaker 1: have for each of those women?
- 34:22Speaker 4: Kathy, I have a little rough around the edges, and
- 34:29Speaker 4: Allan comes on too strong, So Ashley, Susan is a
- 34:36Speaker 4: nice lady, but not for him.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I probably agree.
- 34:40Speaker 4: She's a little rough around the edges.
- 34:42Speaker 2: She's very Jersey.
- 34:44Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but she's kind. She fixes her hair and stuff,
- 34:48Speaker 4: but she's very kind.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Oh the way that she did Teresa's hair was so
- 34:53Speaker 2: sweet and then ruined the car.
- 34:59Speaker 4: That would be me funny. My favorite is Nancy.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Nancy I understand.
- 35:09Speaker 4: I understand the wedding dress thing. I understand that. I
- 35:15Speaker 4: think she's very sweet. I don't know how long she's
- 35:18Speaker 4: going to last, but I like her.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Are you still married?
- 35:22Speaker 4: No, I've been a uh for twenty four years.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Twenty four years. I'm so sorry. That's a long time.
- 35:30Speaker 4: It's a long time. But it's funny. When she did
- 35:32Speaker 4: the wedding dress because I was telling my daughter that
- 35:35Speaker 4: it did it for me with a heath candy bar.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Isn't that funny?
- 35:40Speaker 2: It's Gary said it was cinnamon.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it was his favorite. And I went to a
- 35:46Speaker 4: vending machine instead of bringing what I want, a heath
- 35:50Speaker 4: candy bar came out and I cried so much and hyperventilated,
- 35:55Speaker 4: and I was on a big, busy highway and I
- 35:58Speaker 4: didn't know if I could get home, but I made it.
- 36:01Speaker 2: That was your husband. That was a sign from him,
- 36:03Speaker 2: for sure.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Yeah, he leaves pennies for enough about me.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I like talking about you too.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Oh, he leaves pennies. Did you ever hear that?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I've heard about them leaving coins.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Yeah, sometimes you wonder he didn't leave a coin. So
- 36:21Speaker 4: I guess it's okay for me to do this.
- 36:26Speaker 1: You know, maybe this, uh, this is going into such
- 36:29Speaker 1: this this conversation here is going into such an interesting
- 36:33Speaker 1: part of this show. You know, I imagine or based
- 36:37Speaker 1: on what you're telling us earlier. You've been a fan
- 36:38Speaker 1: of the Bachelor franchise for a while. You've watched most
- 36:41Speaker 1: of the seasons. Have you been relating with the Golden
- 36:48Speaker 1: Bachelor in a way that maybe was unexpected or did
- 36:52Speaker 1: you believe that you were going to watch this show
- 36:54Speaker 1: and be like, No, these are moments that I can
- 36:56Speaker 1: I've definitely felt, and I can feel for them.
- 36:59Speaker 4: No, it's hard to say. I was anxious to see
- 37:03Speaker 4: what he was like, and I was very pleasantly surprised.
- 37:07Speaker 4: He's a good guy. I can see that. And the
- 37:10Speaker 4: women were very, very nice. So as I said, I
- 37:12Speaker 4: didn't knock anyone out the first my scorge sheep. But
- 37:20Speaker 4: I don't know if I would relate to them. I laughed,
- 37:22Speaker 4: because the bunk beds. That was the dumbest thing in
- 37:25Speaker 4: the world. Plus year old girls going to climb up
- 37:31Speaker 4: into a bunk bed when we get down off of
- 37:34Speaker 4: it in the middle of the night, at least once
- 37:35Speaker 4: or twice.
- 37:39Speaker 2: There's no way to fit everybody in the house otherwise though,
- 37:43Speaker 2: I know.
- 37:43Speaker 4: But now they've eliminated people, so hopefully that's true. But
- 37:53Speaker 4: the ladies all seem very nice. I hope they're all
- 37:56Speaker 4: right there for the right reason and not just because
- 37:59Speaker 4: they want to sell something.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say, I mean I think they are.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I think I would have a hard time picking out
- 38:07Speaker 1: anybody that feels like they're not there for the right reasons, Ashley,
- 38:14Speaker 1: I am curious you had mentioned when Mamie said that
- 38:17Speaker 1: she wasn't a fan of Ellen that you said you were.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Why are you a fan of Ellen? And do you
- 38:22Speaker 1: agree maybe she is a little too forward.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I think she's adored. I think she's adorable. I don't know.
- 38:28Speaker 2: She seems warm and she's player. She likes pickleball. Sure,
- 38:34Speaker 2: I do agree with you made me though on Kathy,
- 38:37Speaker 2: she's a little intense, she's extra.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Yeah. I like Faith.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yeah, something's happening with Faith. You see in the scenes
- 38:51Speaker 2: for the next episodes the teaser it says it looks
- 38:54Speaker 2: like Faith leaves on her own. Oh, I think she
- 38:58Speaker 2: can't handle the pressure.
- 38:59Speaker 1: I think of two, ash I think it's like one
- 39:01Speaker 1: of those moments where worries.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Me about Nancy.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Yeah. I feel like we have more people here that
- 39:10Speaker 2: probably are just like, Oh, I've lost before in a
- 39:12Speaker 2: big way, and I don't I don't need to put
- 39:14Speaker 2: myself in a losing situation again.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, the emotions feel like they're just going to get
- 39:19Speaker 1: higher and higher, you know, for this show. Like I
- 39:22Speaker 1: actually think that's probably a concern of the producer's part
- 39:26Speaker 1: when they put the show together. Is that by the
- 39:28Speaker 1: end of the season, like our emotions just going to
- 39:30Speaker 1: be like so on edge because everybody's so in it
- 39:34Speaker 1: and you already get to see it. Maybe I am,
- 39:36Speaker 1: you know, for all the listeners out there, because they
- 39:38Speaker 1: won't be able to watch this. What categories are you
- 39:42Speaker 1: scoring each contestant on on your scorecard? What it? I
- 39:46Speaker 1: know you have notes, and I know you have all
- 39:47Speaker 1: the names, but is it walk us through how you
- 39:51Speaker 1: do this scorecard in case somebody at home wants to
- 39:53Speaker 1: recreate it.
- 39:55Speaker 4: Created. I put down all their names, some of them
- 39:59Speaker 4: might forget, and then I have dad who they are
- 40:01Speaker 4: because I thought they got acts if they didn't, and
- 40:04Speaker 4: then I make comments about them like pretty girl with
- 40:07Speaker 4: long long hair, nice smile, or you know, so I'm
- 40:10Speaker 4: just cheat or something like that. That's my scorecard. Mostly
- 40:15Speaker 4: it's came on strong and did a good job of
- 40:18Speaker 4: selling herself. Do you know who that is?
- 40:20Speaker 2: Leslie? Leslie? No, no, selling herself, Teresa.
- 40:30Speaker 4: As soon as I sat down in that booth, she started,
- 40:36Speaker 4: mm hmmm, my friends. I don't think any of my
- 40:39Speaker 4: friends would ever act like that.
- 40:43Speaker 2: What do you mean by selling herself? What did she say?
- 40:46Speaker 4: She said that I love you so much. I think
- 40:49Speaker 4: you're wonderful. I think we'd be wonderful to get.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, she makes a strong push, like immediately, Yes,
- 40:56Speaker 1: my dear, Yes, yes I do.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I do think that that's some thing that a woman
- 41:01Speaker 2: in her sixties can get away with. By if a
- 41:04Speaker 2: girl in her twenties or thirties on The Bachelor said
- 41:07Speaker 2: that it would it would come off differently. Yeah, that's
- 41:10Speaker 2: what we'd be like, little girl, hold on, you know,
- 41:16Speaker 2: I love you.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I'm ready to move. I kind of hear that in Paradise.
- 41:20Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I was going to say that, Oh,
- 41:25Speaker 5: it's funny because most of my friends are very widows
- 41:29Speaker 5: because I live in a fifty five and over active community,
- 41:34Speaker 5: and they're absolutely not interested in finding another man at all.
- 41:40Speaker 4: But my mother in law, on the other case, when
- 41:44Speaker 4: her she was veryed three times four times anyway, cut
- 41:49Speaker 4: lost kind on her as soon as she put one
- 41:52Speaker 4: in the grave. She was out buying a new convertible.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Had to have a man. And there are women like that,
- 42:02Speaker 4: and I think these women are like that.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Okay, what do you think about Gary? You mentioned that
- 42:07Speaker 2: you really liked him earlier. I was saying yesterday during
- 42:09Speaker 2: the episode, Holy moly, there's no way we will be
- 42:13Speaker 2: able to find another man to be the second, or
- 42:17Speaker 2: the third, or the fourth Golden Bachelor that's going to
- 42:19Speaker 2: compare to him. You're always going to compare people now
- 42:23Speaker 2: to the wonderfulness that is Gary.
- 42:25Speaker 4: I think you're right. We had to say, and I said,
- 42:31Speaker 4: he could put his shoes under my bed anytime.
- 42:37Speaker 2: You've got yourself a permanent spot here on almost have
- 42:41Speaker 2: his podcast.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Recaptured McConaughey, but it might be him.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Now we go from Matthew McConaughey to Gary. You know,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I was, as we close up with you here, maybe
- 42:53Speaker 1: I was watching Ashley and I wanted to tell you this.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I was watching last night's episode, and you know, obviously
- 43:02Speaker 1: seven point seven million viewers, we're going to get into that.
- 43:05Speaker 1: We already have gotten into that. Maybe where so many
- 43:07Speaker 1: people are watching this show right now? And Gary is
- 43:12Speaker 1: you know seventy one. I don't know if he turned
- 43:14Speaker 1: seventy one on the show. He was seventy two.
- 43:16Speaker 4: He had a birthday celebration.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I think it might be of turning seventy two.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Yeah, they didn't seventy two. He I've you know, I've
- 43:22Speaker 1: been able to speak with him on the phone twice now,
- 43:25Speaker 1: and each time this was kind of before the season started,
- 43:28Speaker 1: and he was very naive to the the the exposure
- 43:33Speaker 1: and kind of the faming attention he was going to get.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And I was watching this in Asai. I don't think
- 43:37Speaker 1: this show's going anywhere. I think Gary is going to
- 43:39Speaker 1: be kind of the like standard now for every Golden
- 43:42Speaker 1: Bachelor season from here on out. This dude's life more
- 43:46Speaker 1: we know, yes, but this dude's life has drastically changed
- 43:50Speaker 1: at seventy two years old, Like he went from fishing
- 43:53Speaker 1: and playing golf in northern Indiana to being a legit celebrity.
- 43:58Speaker 1: I think I think he's going to come after this
- 44:00Speaker 1: and people are going to want to follow Gary's story
- 44:02Speaker 1: for ever.
- 44:04Speaker 4: I agree with you as I said, I think he's
- 44:06Speaker 4: a very special person. He really is.
- 44:10Speaker 2: They hit the gold mine finding him.
- 44:12Speaker 1: What would it feel like, maybe if you were seventy
- 44:15Speaker 1: two years old and you, you know, had lived the
- 44:19Speaker 1: life you lived up to that point, and then all
- 44:21Speaker 1: of a sudden you find yourself on the side of
- 44:23Speaker 1: billboards and the side of buildings and on talk shows
- 44:26Speaker 1: like just give us a perspective, what you think that
- 44:28Speaker 1: would feel like at seventy two?
- 44:31Speaker 4: It would be funny and it would be funny and
- 44:35Speaker 4: thrilling for about the first couple of weeks maybe, and
- 44:39Speaker 4: then it was this is too much. You know, that's
- 44:43Speaker 4: the end of that.
- 44:45Speaker 2: And my last question to you is how would you
- 44:48Speaker 2: feel if your grandchildren are watching you kiss on TV?
- 44:53Speaker 4: I think they lived gross. I don't even want to
- 44:56Speaker 4: see them.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Kiss even the best. Thank you so much, and your
- 45:04Speaker 2: granddaughter laughs in our in our group chat, here's.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Maybe you got a great family. They're all awesome.
- 45:11Speaker 4: So I ask you one final question when you said
- 45:14Speaker 4: how many people watch? Is it only elderly or is
- 45:18Speaker 4: it the young people are watching?
- 45:20Speaker 2: To thank everyone? That's what's special about this season is
- 45:23Speaker 2: like they have the full range of a demographic terricly.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think the metrics that usually get
- 45:32Speaker 1: measured by like eighteen to forty five, I think this
- 45:35Speaker 1: show is blowing, Like is making the metrics go into
- 45:38Speaker 1: chaos because it's like eighteen to you know, we don't
- 45:41Speaker 1: need ninety. Yeah, we don't know how to figure this one?
- 45:44Speaker 1: Ads doing it?
- 45:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I know everybody, it's fun. It's fun.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Sure is well, you're fun, You're great. Thanks for coming on.
- 45:53Speaker 1: We hope to have you again. Mami. I really appreciate
- 45:55Speaker 1: you taking time.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Okay, bye bye bye.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Was freaking what was that? You can keep the shoes? Now?
- 46:03Speaker 1: What's the saying I want to start using?
- 46:04Speaker 2: Put his shoes under my bed?
- 46:07Speaker 1: Oh? I love it.
- 46:08Speaker 2: I love you like Twains, whose boots? Who's been have
- 46:11Speaker 2: your boots been under?
- 46:12Speaker 1: I love his boots under my bed Ashley. Two weeks
- 46:17Speaker 1: in a row with two incredible guests breaking down the
- 46:21Speaker 1: Golden Bachelor. Obviously, their perspective is going to be unique different.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I love that maybe can come to us with like
- 46:32Speaker 1: the relatability saying, hey, I know what it's like to
- 46:35Speaker 1: have that random moment right whereas you smell cinnamon, you
- 46:38Speaker 1: put on a wedding dress, you have a heath bar,
- 46:40Speaker 1: whatever it is, and it really brings up emotions. I
- 46:42Speaker 1: also just love I was interested in what you know,
- 46:46Speaker 1: watching last night and asking Maymi today, like what would
- 46:49Speaker 1: it be like to be really famous right away at
- 46:52Speaker 1: seventy two? And I think she's right to be really
- 46:54Speaker 1: fun for a few weeks, but then I could see
- 46:56Speaker 1: it being like no, like I've got all the money
- 47:00Speaker 1: I want. I don't want anybody else breathing down my
- 47:02Speaker 1: neck thinking about my life. Like I'm good, Stop stop
- 47:06Speaker 1: asking me questions. But I have a feeling Gary's life
- 47:09Speaker 1: is forever going to be changed.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Yeah, probably, I mean hopefully. You know, he does live
- 47:13Speaker 2: in a space like he lives in you know, rural
- 47:16Speaker 2: ish Indiana that like he can always like escape whim
- 47:20Speaker 2: why if he wants. But he's gonna be called back
- 47:22Speaker 2: from the show like all the time now, you know,
- 47:24Speaker 2: like he's gonna be taking more LA trips than he's
- 47:27Speaker 2: ever imagined.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Poor guy. Well, hey, this has been another episode of
- 47:32Speaker 1: all the Almost Famous podcasts breaking down episode two of
- 47:35Speaker 1: The Golden Bachelor. As Ashley mentioned earlier, and as I agree,
- 47:39Speaker 1: this show is good. It's really good. We're loving it.
- 47:43Speaker 1: So hey, we'll be back next time again a full
- 47:47Speaker 1: slate of content coming your way. But until next time,
