- 0:10alikum say. So now my pleasure to be here
- 0:18with you likewise likewise, it's been a while since I last saw
- 0:21you. It's been a while.
- 0:22I just, you know, room one. Yes, it's amazing to see you and
- 0:25be beside you on second likewise for likewise.
- 0:28We have been I think we've had the pleasure.
- 0:30Just doing some work here in that, this is the first time, I
- 0:32think we're going to have the opportunity to sit and discuss
- 0:36things every week together. Amazing and I look forward to
- 0:39this podcast a future podcast, but before we woven into any of
- 0:43our topics that we're going to talk about, I have a question
- 0:45for you. It's my life.
- 0:47What's after Maghrib all about? Do you know what this is?
- 0:51The question, which a lot of people have been asking after
- 0:54Margaret was bit of a strange name, isn't it?
- 0:56To be honest. The concept of aftermarket up is
- 0:59if you think about About Shyamalan, or you think about it
- 1:02just generally in in, in your day-to-day life?
- 1:04Mmm, when is the best time? You can sit down and have a
- 1:08lovely. Fruitful conversation with your
- 1:10colleagues or peers or friends. It's usually after market we
- 1:14have a chai, you sit down a nice cup of tea with your family
- 1:17around the table or your friends, and you have the
- 1:20opportunity to talk about issues where you share you learn, you
- 1:23grow and do, you know generally developed us, that's the goal
- 1:26and inshallah. That's what we're trying.
- 1:28Hopefully to emulate this. Whole inshallah and I really
- 1:31hope everyone that's watching. Will, you know, take shall I say
- 1:37not take, but be a part of this conversation because it's more
- 1:39of a conversation and inshallah, we can add add value to what
- 1:42people are discussing at home, what people are seeing in the
- 1:45community. So this is what the show is all
- 1:47about. Am I right?
- 1:48Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:50I think beyond that is what we have to mention that we're going
- 1:52to be talking about so many different things on this
- 1:54podcast. We're going to be talking about
- 1:56issues that affect us as people as communities things that
- 1:59affect our mental. Mental health, spiritual
- 2:01physical health, and also outside of that issues, that are
- 2:03generally going on in the world that may or may not even have an
- 2:07Islamic relevance but things that will affect us in our
- 2:10day-to-day interactions as Muslims.
- 2:12And we have to say, and we have to put it out there.
- 2:15By no means, are we qualified or experts in any particular field?
- 2:18I think the concept of this is the fact that we are General
- 2:21day-to-day community members. Handle always had the
- 2:24opportunity to be involved in different things and hopefully
- 2:27be able to voice our opinion and and maybe The opinion and shot
- 2:31love of guests and viewers and listeners.
- 2:34I sent a scent and is a point that you mentioned that we are
- 2:36no experts. Yeah.
- 2:38Because just to do a bit more into that we're not experts
- 2:41because we're not Scholars, we're not really, you know,
- 2:45students of Hauser so we don't really have that.
- 2:50Sort of shall I say capacity where we can share it Islamic
- 2:56laws or Islamic ruling cetera, but it's more about speaking in
- 2:59terms. Of conversation, you know, from
- 3:02the heart where we can talk from the heart.
- 3:03You know, we you can imagine, we are speaking to our friends, our
- 3:06home where we can discuss things.
- 3:08Sometimes the pulpit doesn't discuss, not because the pulpit
- 3:11shying away from it. There's just no appropriate.
- 3:13It's not being a podcast. I think it's an amazing
- 3:16opportunity for us to voice our opinions and in sha Allah speak
- 3:19about what the community with thankful.
- 3:21Of course, that'll be a TV for having us everything.
- 3:23Everything and anything we ever say, on this channel on this
- 3:25podcast is nothing representative of the channel or
- 3:29any of its employees. And Course, you know, mentioned
- 3:32again we're very grateful to the channel but today say it we have
- 3:37a topic, which I think has been brewing for a few weeks in the,
- 3:41in the general. Not even just this year, our
- 3:43community, not even just the Muslim Community, but in wider
- 3:47Society, over the last few weeks and that is of course off the
- 3:51back of the release of of the film, The Lady Of Heaven, which
- 3:54we know is has been received and many different ways, which I'm
- 3:58sure will get into and released to different areas of the world.
- 4:03Generally say this is a film which as I'm sure you know, has
- 4:07been released by group with the intention of sharing the life of
- 4:11set of automated. I had a salami Lala and bringing
- 4:14that message in a production based format to look to the
- 4:17wider world. What do you think about the idea
- 4:20of that? Because as a concept how do you
- 4:23feel about that you know just just before I speak deep into
- 4:28you know the film itself. But you mentioned towards the
- 4:32end of your question to me right now.
- 4:33The idea why I think Abaya about the idea is I love the fact that
- 4:39she asked can come out today and produce films about the Elevate
- 4:42and him Salam. You know, generally speaking
- 4:45just typing away from the film slightly, a Tickler.
- 4:49This particular film you want to be about this film in particular
- 4:51you know I'm saying? It was stepping away from that
- 4:53film and particular correct. The facts that we can make films
- 4:57movies, be at the commentary'. Whatever is the fact is In a
- 5:00worldwide Cinemas and is showing, you know, the history
- 5:03of the debates on him Salam, you know.
- 5:05It doesn't have to be about Lady Fatima Zahra.
- 5:07It can be about, Imam, Ali and his Salam.
- 5:09It can be about his amazing. Sounds hasn't Hussein.
- 5:12I am Salam, even about rasulallah salallahu.
- 5:14Anyone is set up. So the fact that we can give our
- 5:18yeah history, our proud history of who she are is something
- 5:24amazing to have in UK Cinemas Global Cinemas.
- 5:27This is the thing we are. We are on a Channel right now.
- 5:30And we all people who love Muslim media will talk about
- 5:33Muslim media later on. But that's something we strive
- 5:36for, we strive for presenting our God, and our beliefs, in an
- 5:40appropriate manner to the both, the Muslim Community in the
- 5:44west, and also the wider public. Because that's something we need
- 5:47to do. There's a responsibility.
- 5:48There's an amount of upon us. I believe to share information
- 5:52in the right manner time and place two people to benefit
- 5:56from, of course, this particular film has had backlash.
- 6:00Because without saying and generally speaking not just
- 6:03from, from the Shia Community. Yeah, but from the Sunni
- 6:06community and obviously as well various kind of degrees of kind
- 6:12of reception from General Public.
- 6:15I don't know how I feel about it.
- 6:16I'd be very honest. I haven't seen the film.
- 6:18Yeah. So I'm not qualified to say what
- 6:20I think about specific scenes in the film or lines or whatever it
- 6:24might be in there but The Narrative of the film in
- 6:27general. Yeah is for some people has been
- 6:29a Flammable controversial, and of course, has been received in
- 6:35different ways. It surely has see, I was one of
- 6:39the few ice a few from the Shia Community because not everyone
- 6:43went out to see this film, I watched it on the release date
- 6:47itself so that was I think the 3rd of June.
- 6:50Yeah. And I went to the cinema like
- 6:53any other person and bought the tickets online you have to buy
- 6:56online. Went to the cinema sat down.
- 6:59You know, the the audience was mixed.
- 7:02You take the Divine snacks, I there was a pound Lounge
- 7:05downstairs. I was like, if I'm going to pay
- 7:08Seven quid to buy you a drink or something, great for half a
- 7:11Coke. Then I went downstairs Pompeii,
- 7:13the pound. So, so, I sat down and, you
- 7:18know, when I, when I went to see the movie, I did not watch it
- 7:20because, you know, there are looking to portray certain
- 7:23characters or, you know, it's they're going to show the
- 7:27incident of the door, honey. I knew the door incidents going
- 7:30to be there. You know, was very clear when
- 7:32the, when the movie was being made and in post production and
- 7:36pre-production there. Is like some talk about what we
- 7:39were expected to see. And you know, we all saw the
- 7:41trailer, you know, I saw him early in the battlefield this.
- 7:44Wow. I need to see this movie.
- 7:46For me, was more about Imam Ali in the battlefield, you know,
- 7:48seeing seeing his dhul fiqar, all of that.
- 7:50This is something I'm proud of. So that was one of the main
- 7:53reasons I went to see this film. Also won inside, you know,
- 7:56screening the plate, the trailers.
- 7:58And then all of a sudden, I saw the lady of Heaven is like, oh,
- 8:02okay. The movie is actually starting
- 8:03now. So the movie started and I'm not
- 8:06going to go into So of what the movie showed itself, best?
- 8:09You know it was something I was happy with seeing you know,
- 8:14history being played on Cinema screens now who wrote the script
- 8:19or for example, you know how they decided, you know, what
- 8:24seems to put in, what acting to do, that's got nothing to do my
- 8:27opinion. You know, we got Scholars for
- 8:29that best meet. The main thing for me is that I
- 8:31went to watch a movie about partners that are external and I
- 8:34saw why I wanted to see so I saw him Molly in the battlefield.
- 8:38I thought you had you had a list of things that you want.
- 8:40Yeah, because I saw the trailer, you know, I saw the trailer
- 8:42before hand. Now, I was expecting something.
- 8:44So I was very proud to see Ali. I'm the pilot on the battlefield
- 8:48for me home, you know, that, that, that book everything I
- 8:52hear on the minbar alive. So, from that perspective, I'm
- 8:56talking about From perspective of watching a movie watching a
- 8:58film. I'm not talking about history
- 9:00here, specifically auction. Yeah and for me, the standard of
- 9:03production was went to, you know, solve a different level
- 9:06Which we have never seen when it comes to Productions by the Shia
- 9:10Community. Okay, so from a production level
- 9:12production, I'm a city since the release of the movie, which has
- 9:15been a couple of weeks. Now, there has been a mixed
- 9:17response of mentioned, a lot of coverage by mainstream Western
- 9:22media protests by different communities.
- 9:26From other Sunnah wal jamaa from across the UK particularly here.
- 9:30And obviously also, it's had an effect on people who are
- 9:34involved working with the government from a, from an
- 9:36Islamic perspective. Effective.
- 9:37Community leaders. Faith leaders generally.
- 9:40Hmm. If again, like I said, I haven't
- 9:42seen the film but my opinion on this is we have spent decades
- 9:49and decades within this Society developing and Building Bridges
- 9:53between the Shia community and the Sunni Community.
- 9:56There is no point taking one step forward to then take two
- 9:59steps back. Yeah.
- 10:00Do you see what I mean? So we have to ask ourselves and
- 10:03we have to be critical with each other to determine Weather
- 10:07showing certain things and displaying and presenting
- 10:10certain things in a certain man is a right place and time to do
- 10:14it. Now I am all for the concept of
- 10:17sharing Islamic history in a high-quality production but it
- 10:23has to be on the basis which doesn't cause the or even give
- 10:26the risk in my opinion of division and friction with the
- 10:29community, many of us have worked from a number of years,
- 10:32as I mentioned, to develop community relations in the
- 10:35mosques in universities in the The workplace I was in The
- 10:38Barbers this morning. I don't know how you told me
- 10:40earlier. My barber was talking to me.
- 10:46He actually mentioned the film. Mmm, just by chance.
- 10:49He doesn't know Michelle Muslim. Hmm.
- 10:52And I didn't know if he's a Sunni Muslim or Shiite Muslim
- 10:54and you know unfortunately there was a hesitation from him and
- 10:58from myself to kind of read each other and got to a point where
- 11:03then we realize we're on the same page.
- 11:05You said I love you. You're my Muslim.
- 11:06Other, if I saw someone Street insult you as a Muslim, I will
- 11:10defend you. I won't stand in my arms for
- 11:12beautiful and that's what we have to do.
- 11:15So this particular production or even any production, you
- 11:18mentioned the role of our manager and our Scholars.
- 11:20That's something we should discuss.
- 11:22But yeah, like I think as on a Grassroots and on an
- 11:27Institutional level we have to take into account that we do
- 11:30live in a pluralistic Multicultural Society where
- 11:33everyone delete believes and and has an opinion on different
- 11:36things. Things, people like people who
- 11:38others don't like and vice versa.
- 11:40So, I mean, that's just a fact of life, unfortunately, and I
- 11:45agree. I don't disagree with any point.
- 11:47You just mentioned him by the way.
- 11:48Yeah. And the fact I went to see this
- 11:50movie by the way. Does not mean I am for the
- 11:52movie. It's not an endorsement.
- 11:54The fact that I went in the service, neither neither do.
- 11:56I disagree with the movie. So, I have no opinion here.
- 11:58For me, it's important what the scholars say, what the mirages
- 12:01say, what everyone's because their opinion is what actually
- 12:05counts. Yeah.
- 12:06Who am I? I'm a nobody for me, I went
- 12:08there to see as a movie. Okay.
- 12:09Yeah. Just want to make that clear
- 12:11because I have, I have to make that clear because some people
- 12:15could get the wrong impression that, of course, you know,
- 12:17because what happened after the movie, we saw, no, there's
- 12:20nothing wrong as, absolutely nothing wrong with me.
- 12:23Going to a cinema watching any movie.
- 12:25Okay? For me, you know, I actually saw
- 12:27it. I saw some positive to it.
- 12:29Let me tell you what the positive ones I didn't have to
- 12:31hear music. I didn't need to see
- 12:33inappropriate scenes for me. That was fantastic.
- 12:35The fact I didn't These things is important to us, you know,
- 12:40being as Muslims. So in terms of those sort of,
- 12:44you know, the small small things we take for granted because
- 12:46Cinema that was there. Okay?
- 12:50The content I'm not going to get involved, but after the movie
- 12:54will happen as well as the discussion.
- 12:57Yeah. Okay.
- 12:57Because my opinion. So you don't have to have seen
- 13:01the film? No.
- 13:02I haven't seen it. Yeah.
- 13:03But my judgment is not on the film itself.
- 13:07My judgment is based on the reaction from community members
- 13:10both within and outside of the show Community.
- 13:12Yeah, so what I mean by that is, if I see someone in pure Agony
- 13:18about, the way that something has been done or the manner in
- 13:21which something is being shown. Surely, there's an issue there
- 13:24whether that's the right or the wrong thing to show as a
- 13:27different matter, mmm. But the fact of the matter is
- 13:29that you have a Muslim brother who has an issue with something
- 13:33and is blaming an entire, she our community and saying that
- 13:36you guys are at fault of this. And then obviously unfortunately
- 13:39and some cases is leading to claims of tech fear and all
- 13:42sorts of stuff which I think is entirely inappropriate from
- 13:45either side and it's causing issues of what's currently there
- 13:50is, unfortunately, I agree with you.
- 13:51I agree with you. There's nothing wrong with
- 13:52seeing and I don't think we need to kind of delve into that.
- 13:55We've mentioned that there is unfortunately, what do you
- 13:57think? Sorry, I was.
- 13:59So, what do you think about where we stand?
- 14:02Okay, because prior to all of this.
- 14:04Yeah, we know over the years, the Slim Community.
- 14:07UK of three million people. We've had to deal with a lot of
- 14:09issues here. Hmm, some issues have United us
- 14:12and some of them, fortunately divided us.
- 14:14But how did you feel like the mood was before?
- 14:18And kind of like how it is now and this is where do you stand
- 14:22on this? That's a good question.
- 14:24Where do I stand in terms of unity is what you mean.
- 14:27Yeah. Okay.
- 14:28That this is as a good point that you raised argument that
- 14:31because you know, Unity is it's a big thing.
- 14:37Sometimes someone might say, okay, you are united with other
- 14:40schools of sects, that means you are giving up on what you
- 14:43believe in. No, no, no way.
- 14:46You know, I believe in something called coexistence.
- 14:51Okay. The fact that we can live,
- 14:54besides anyone be it? Christian Jewish, Sunni Sophie,
- 14:59whoever they are, she over the she has a United but you know
- 15:03Unity is a broad term that. I'm not really an expert when it
- 15:06comes to this. When it comes to coexistence,
- 15:08I'm all for it. The fact that you can have
- 15:10different different views than me.
- 15:13No problem. I live peacefully peacefully,
- 15:16have no Harmony have no beef, you know, aliens, a polyp, what
- 15:19did you tell us? Live amongst people a person 0,
- 15:23your brother and Faith, or your equal and Humanity.
- 15:25That means coexisting is so I don't want to say.
- 15:29For example, I am not for Unity best.
- 15:33We need to be careful what we're pushing for.
- 15:35Because if we want to Unite on everything.
- 15:37We have nothing to stand for, I think you sort of lose.
- 15:41Now when I'm talking about uniting on something, you know,
- 15:43we just mentioned the film a bit earlier on.
- 15:45I'm not talking about sunni-shia issues.
- 15:48I'm talking about our actual beliefs, our data, if it means,
- 15:52we have to drop or compromise, something I'm not down for it.
- 15:56Let's see if we can unite. The fact that we are Muslim, we
- 15:59share the same God, the same profit, the same holy book.
- 16:02And we spoke about this briefly before the conversation, the
- 16:05conversation we're having here. I'm a father that's what unity
- 16:08means to me by a few. But if Unity goes into for
- 16:11example where you have to drop your beliefs to please, others
- 16:14know, because you've got nothing to stand.
- 16:15Yeah, I mean that's the thing appeasing.
- 16:18Mmm, someone is in my again, in my opinion is not something we
- 16:23should be doing that defensive mentality.
- 16:27Shouldn't be there, you should be, should be able to believe
- 16:30what you believe in someone should be like, you know, should
- 16:32be able to accept that. And, and like I said, we We live
- 16:37in a Multicultural Society. And there are people out there
- 16:39who disagree with us and will disagree with them.
- 16:41And I may disagree with you on things and vice versa.
- 16:44And, you know, generally speaking, we should be able to
- 16:46at the bare minimum coexist, cohabitate with people and, and
- 16:49that is like a primary function of this Society.
- 16:53We live in, is we live in a society where we're meant to be
- 16:56peaceful and not have beef with each other?
- 16:58Have a fluffy. Hey.
- 17:00So like now we're having a their protests.
- 17:02Yeah she and all sorts but all in all there's the Work to be
- 17:07done. I think about whether that's not
- 17:09just and I think there's a huge role I have to stress this on
- 17:13the institutions, within our community to, please extend the
- 17:17hand of friendship and and kind of peace with, with, with our
- 17:22brothers sisters, because of course, there's a responsibility
- 17:24on us, we have to, unfortunately, we have to answer
- 17:27things and whether we do or don't agree, we can accept and
- 17:30we know that there are people who are offended and we have to
- 17:34address it. But, you know, even on a
- 17:35Grassroots level on a A day-to-day level we have
- 17:37responsibilities by the receipt, by the way, you mentioned the
- 17:39word offended. I don't blame them because, you
- 17:43know, we have people who, you know, they always use the
- 17:46argument of Wallace history. Yes, history.
- 17:49But as the way of the rating history, okay?
- 17:51And then, there is offending people, was people grow up, you
- 17:56know, and they they Revere certain individuals and they,
- 18:02you know, spent the whole lives Herring them, as being the gray,
- 18:06the Of course, you know, x y z and then you hear someone else
- 18:10coming out and saying, well, no, not the greatest, and they using
- 18:14profanity. And they using, you know, they
- 18:18trying to prove a point by, you know, saying, oh it's in your
- 18:21books, this doesn't work, there's just causes disunity.
- 18:25And that's, that's, that's I think what's important is that
- 18:28when I say I'm down for Unity, yeah, I'm talking about, you
- 18:33know, you can discuss these topics without dividing for me.
- 18:37I sent a lot of anti says hold on to the Rope of Allah and do
- 18:40not be divided. Hmm.
- 18:41The Holy Quran and we know that that is a token we need to live
- 18:46our lives by but by the same time at support and that we can
- 18:49share our opinion, of course, share our belief, share our
- 18:53creator and and you know, be comfortable and saying, for
- 18:55example, person exit this to a Bob Dylan karbala, yeah, there
- 18:59is no problem with that at all. No, there shouldn't be.
- 19:01But some people say, you know, let's not talk about it, if
- 19:04you're collecting history. Yeah, stunning.
- 19:06Email. And you're assessing things that
- 19:09have happened in the past. There should be no hesitation in
- 19:12the sense saved moving on within the Shell community.
- 19:18There is a question to ask him. This is the, this is a question
- 19:22because bro, honestly, we are not homogeneous, I have to say
- 19:26this on the, on the, on the surface level, everyone is very
- 19:30different to each other. We've grown up as you know,
- 19:32different households, different Community, speaking different
- 19:34languages and different areas around the world.
- 19:36Yes, And now on top of that there are very very, very many
- 19:40brackets and Pockets within our community who offer and kind of
- 19:44performed different beliefs. Hmm.
- 19:45And now obviously the community the hsia community of 300
- 19:49thousand give or take in the UK. Yes our pre-painted with one
- 19:53stroke of the same brush. Correct to say you guys are this
- 19:56or that and you believe this or that and you are to credit or to
- 19:59blame for a for this film or for other work.
- 20:04You know, as a valid point that you just said and where everyone
- 20:08thinks we are all the same and they brought brushes in the same
- 20:11brush, you know, we all think the same.
- 20:13We all have the same opinions have the same 50 rulings Etc
- 20:18button. In reality, I think we are as
- 20:21this United as we are with other sects in the religion of Islam.
- 20:25So it's I don't think I don't know it's not something to be
- 20:29proud of because if you are actually proud of this, This
- 20:34Unity something is absolutely wrong because, you know, the
- 20:37elevator always up for bringing people together.
- 20:40They're always down for, you know, making sure their phase of
- 20:43the community were all you know, in harmony.
- 20:46So when we see today that the she has are actually not United
- 20:51with one each other, it hurts. We could be more united and even
- 20:55minute and the scary thing is, you know, I think this goes to
- 20:59how we are in our communities. I can speak for myself.
- 21:05This, this might annoy certain people hearing it from me.
- 21:09But the community I grew up in had a lot of disunity.
- 21:14You know, we had Mirage issues. We had going to different Center
- 21:17issues, we had. Okay, this this person doesn't
- 21:21do a specific, you know, shower room and pressing issues.
- 21:25All of this was nonsense to me was nonsense.
- 21:30The thing is you couldn't disagree, We're Young, you know,
- 21:33so you To these centers and you hear the center speaks about the
- 21:36center. This guy talks about the
- 21:37scholar. That's caller brings down the
- 21:39other scholar and it was just like kindergarten.
- 21:43Yeah, it's me. What's going on?
- 21:44Of course, yeah, it's chaos. So it's not a position to be
- 21:49proud of as a shearing seeing this disunity and seeing if
- 21:53anything we have to like there has to be a serious conversation
- 21:56about. Yeah because we are having the
- 21:58Loblolly mean now we are an age. Things have changed.
- 22:01Yeah, things change. Yes.
- 22:04Fifteen years and I do think that's something maybe for
- 22:06another day. But the establishment and now
- 22:09the fluency of the English language has meant that you can
- 22:13have yourself and your family, which comes from a rocky
- 22:16background and me and myself. And my family comes from a cold,
- 22:18your background, where to youth growing up in the same city and
- 22:21different communities. Our mother tongues are
- 22:23different. Yeah, but now we're both at an
- 22:25age will handle our laws. Giving us do fear and strength,
- 22:28but if we wanted to and if we add, you know, the inspiration
- 22:31to we can make these changes in the community.
- 22:34So you know, we have to as youth take that on board and we have
- 22:38to, you know, Handler. Now as parents we have to then
- 22:40start to pass that information on down to our children that
- 22:44Unity amongst the shot as wide as upon us.
- 22:47You know in my opinion it's and it's not just unities
- 22:50integration. I'm a big Advocate integration
- 22:53with within the shocking media because when it Mom and Maddie
- 22:56has a lot of I just should have comes Rock.
- 22:57Do we think that he's going to visit one Center?
- 22:59No way. And stick to one cultural kind
- 23:02of know. No.
- 23:04I mean it doesn't work like that bro.
- 23:05He's gonna be in. Charlotte leading Jamar and you
- 23:08have people of 10 different skin colors and 10 different
- 23:10languages playing behind in Conway for that. 100% honestly
- 23:14color is an interesting thing because we sent I went to and
- 23:23subhanallah I'll never forget, this was in Hamburg in Germany,
- 23:26the Imam, Ali Center, it was appraised Jim are there.
- 23:29I went there for like a crash course trip and I remember the
- 23:32drummer that we prayed there. We had brothers from different
- 23:36sects praying in one Center side by side and the khutbah was in
- 23:41seven languages. Turkish English Arabic German
- 23:44first anything you can imagine I suspect.
- 23:46I was amazing. Yeah maybe it's a bit long but I
- 23:50mean the ultimate goal in sha Allah is not just integration
- 23:53and unity but also just generally then ultimate trust
- 23:56because we hear about the Hadith about you should fill
- 23:59trustworthy to the point where your other mumineen can put
- 24:02their hand in your pocket and you would have no issue.
- 24:04Just what I mean, that's the ultimate goal.
- 24:07And but where we are now and we don't understand like where
- 24:10moaning because I'm de la, a lot of great initiatives are going
- 24:13on and has been done. But from where we are now to
- 24:15where we aim to get to, there's work to be done, surely there is
- 24:19and, you know, I'm the law, you know what, I said my point
- 24:22earlier I said, as I grew up, you know, growing up and now
- 24:26we've grown up some that I said, I turned 30 of days that makes
- 24:30me and I don't know. You know, the changes, I can see
- 24:37it happen and the fact that I can go to any sense, I want to
- 24:42the fact that I can, you know, I'm going to speak being a
- 24:48reciter. You know, you feel this disunity
- 24:52more, really? Yeah, but as I'll get to that in
- 24:55a second, but when you are part of the audience, you know, let's
- 24:58say you're going to attend the program and event celebration be
- 25:02a martyr than one of the it. You feel United, but as soon as
- 25:08that measure less or that event is over, you know, you've been
- 25:11called to the caller Barraza. Just things will come out again.
- 25:15People start talking, you know, he said this.
- 25:18Why is he here? You know, why is there a picture
- 25:21of that scroll? Understand sire, all of these
- 25:24things just reignites something that went a long time ago.
- 25:27You know, back back and I think the 90s I grew up in, I was born
- 25:31in 92, so growing up in the TS. That's what people used to talk
- 25:35about, you know, much yet this or, you know, this got the
- 25:39center doesn't do enough, doesn't do not want too hard.
- 25:41Yeah, just some nonsense things. Okay, and of course, so these
- 25:45things have gone and handling now it's more about the views
- 25:49you hold. So note that this unit is more
- 25:52about the views, whether you stand where you stand, you know,
- 25:54we touched on earlier on about where you stand with unity with
- 25:57she has insomnia, for example. So this is how you are judged
- 26:01these days or for example. Where do you stand in?
- 26:04How open can you be about your history?
- 26:06So this is what the disunity in the Shiite is today.
- 26:08I think just kind of summarizing that because this is such an
- 26:12important topic and shallow we get to Stage well, loss pain,
- 26:16Tyler gives us that guidance and not just the guidance from God
- 26:19but also the hard work from us, your ourselves and and are like
- 26:24you know all of us and within the community that we can get to
- 26:27stage where we're so United, the I can go to any Community Center
- 26:31within the shark community and thought home.
- 26:34Oh, yeah, and you can do the same and anyone can do anything.
- 26:36You don't handle of, that's, that's like what we've seen in
- 26:39some centers which I think are like a complete role models for
- 26:41us. And a lot of other centers are
- 26:43getting there as well. So maybe we'll take a few years
- 26:46but you know all in all this is why I like for example with a
- 26:50debate TV or just generally with the stomach.
- 26:52Can I just pause this? Just before you, you get into
- 26:55Elevate? Evie.
- 26:56Yeah. Sorry to stop you.
- 26:58Then of course, that's I did want to mention something about
- 27:00as a reciter. Yeah.
- 27:01Someone who recites Sometimes you don't get invited to places
- 27:08because of your father. So in terms of the elders in the
- 27:12community, that's what the disunity is.
- 27:15So what the elders, the younger generation, it doesn't exist.
- 27:19The fact I'm here next to you today.
- 27:21We have no disunity. The fact that I can go to one of
- 27:25our, she mentions on my friends names but the majority of my
- 27:27friends now are people who I had conflicting views with growing
- 27:32up and now we have no conflicts because Is that we realize
- 27:37brought the end of the day, we have the same amount, we have
- 27:40the same profit, we shed tears, over the same is different and
- 27:45your stance, on some issues, a difference, not the end of the
- 27:47week. Yeah, so my point is like it's
- 27:49improved the shy Unity has improved.
- 27:52This just I think is small with the elders and I think that
- 27:55comes down can't blame them to be and I don't blame them.
- 27:57They grew up like this, it was growing up and it was it was
- 28:00drilled into a lot of people and a lot, but like we did the
- 28:03community at certain stage in the past.
- 28:05Wasn't as a globalized. You didn't have social media.
- 28:07You don't have articles to read. You didn't have YouTube, like
- 28:10you do now and it brings me back again to Islamic immediate.
- 28:12Yes, the, the concept of globalization is new tech and
- 28:17Islam for the first time in 1400 years have crossed paths.
- 28:21She saw what I mean, so, that whole phenomena is something
- 28:25which is so new to us as people were learning about this.
- 28:29So the fact that you know, 14 plus hundred years ago so late
- 28:33years later, we then have the First English-speaking Shiite,
- 28:36Muslim channel will basically, they see be the same saying
- 28:39something, right? And of course, as a big TV is a
- 28:41channel which is non partisan, non kind of Affiliated to any
- 28:46particular module is publicly-funded is publicly
- 28:49owned. These kind of things are
- 28:51incredible assets. That the channel owns and not
- 28:53just out of a TV but generally Islamic media, as a whole has a
- 28:57responsibility to play. And when we talk about this
- 28:59conversation, the voices that are being heard on these
- 29:02channels have a huge responsibility.
- 29:05And that includes you. And I on this particular
- 29:07podcast. Mmm.
- 29:08You know, we should be planting the seeds of change sometime in
- 29:12sha Allah and we should be in trying our best inspire people.
- 29:16And like we said at the beginning, we're not experts
- 29:18were not qualified anything particular but one thing I hope
- 29:21and Shala we have is ambition and we have that drive that fire
- 29:26in our heart that we want to see a change in the world.
- 29:29We live in both in and outside of the Muslim Community because
- 29:32there are issues in both areas and there is an Inshallah we can
- 29:37get to that stage. There is a very is very
- 29:39beautiful that you mentioned a little bit sleepy because I used
- 29:43to work at. So I have this personal
- 29:44connection here. Yeah.
- 29:45And so, by the way today it's amazing to be, you know, they
- 29:49say you leave this you work at, you know, me and you on the
- 29:53show, yes, 2022. I joined in 2016.
- 30:01I think the week you left all those around that time and then
- 30:05I officially left in 2018. So I own Is Not only was here
- 30:09from full-time for a couple of years.
- 30:11Yeah, but I've yeah once you once you leave you you're still
- 30:15not coming back to elevate. EV you know why?
- 30:18I want to mention that I used to work here, that's because there
- 30:21was Unity when I worked here before I leave a TV.
- 30:24I think it was 20, 2012. I think it's when I joined.
- 30:32Yeah, yeah, I just before I volunteer the news.
- 30:35In the studios. And then I officially joined a
- 30:38little bit. Joined the team at him a TV.
- 30:40And when I joined, I was like, oh my God, there's like this guy
- 30:44follows this guy, you know, this guy is not even a rocky.
- 30:49Yeah. So it was for me, this was so
- 30:51new. I was in one she environment but
- 30:55I had it was like the United Nations for she has.
- 30:58So I had every rep everyone follows a different object.
- 31:02Everyone has their own different opinions, but we were United and
- 31:04now gone. And that goal was to make, you
- 31:06know, this platform a platform, if I remember very clearly, why
- 31:09not stuffy place where Imam mehdi inshallah, we'll come and
- 31:13broadcast and Charlotte? Yeah.
- 31:14So, for me, it was important seeing that, and I think that
- 31:17helped me as a person. Yeah, because, you know,
- 31:20touching on Unity again, I wouldn't say I was this United
- 31:24best. I didn't really get along with
- 31:25other people outside my own Community.
- 31:28Yes, the share our community as a white person.
- 31:30Every Community there's a subcommittee subcommittee.
- 31:33So, when I came out of a TV and I saw different I was like, wow,
- 31:36you know, we all believe in the same thing, you know, walking
- 31:39towards us, and he's gonna sound so City, but we pray the same.
- 31:42Yeah, we think the same and that was new for you.
- 31:44The exposure is not that I didn't know, is that I didn't
- 31:50want to believe we are the same because growing up going back to
- 31:54what I said earlier. We were fed the sole thing where
- 31:58this person that follows this sir, Marcia things like that, or
- 32:03don't like that. But when I came to elevate TV,
- 32:05it was Important. And I think that was part of the
- 32:07global. She, our Unity, when it comes to
- 32:10the English world, the Western World.
- 32:11So, if you look at Unity today, yeah, you can see it clearly in
- 32:15the English world. So, you can now even recite
- 32:18anything in English or give a lecture in English.
- 32:20Or even poetry readings Weber is, you will be in any Community
- 32:24whether you're able to work with what are they follow a different
- 32:26marja or whether they come from the hoja community, the Parsi
- 32:29Community? They have included.
- 32:30English language has I think helped I'm the luckiest guy.
- 32:34I know, I completely agree. It's been a very, very, very
- 32:41good discussion hamdulillah. That was the first part.
- 32:43Would you think I had you feel about that?
- 32:46It was a bit weird because normally, I recite, and I don't
- 32:48know what happened. It's a bit of a change and, and
- 32:52I didn't know actually, I hold this much of use myself.
- 32:55So, the fact I'm talking with you today, you know, II, think
- 32:59people got some value, hopefully in and this conversation and in
- 33:03sha Allah. These, this is something If I
- 33:06said something, they, you know, they disagreed with an end of
- 33:08the day. This is my opinion, and my
- 33:10opinion is my own but inshallah, you know, Shalom is not offended
- 33:14anyone and forgive us if no, of course not.
- 33:16No intention, of course, hundred percent and we've got a lot
- 33:19coming up in the coming weeks. I know he's speaking about
- 33:22everything and anything. I'm excited for the next.
