- 0:00Speaker 1: Mark Simoni's back on seventeen.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Well, here's the greatest columnist in America, Michael Goodwin. You
- 0:09Speaker 2: can read his column every Sunday and every Wednesday in
- 0:13Speaker 2: the New York Post. And if you just go to
- 0:14Speaker 2: the New York Post website, all of his columns are
- 0:16Speaker 2: up there, and if you haven't read them all you should.
- 0:19Speaker 2: And he's with us right now. Michael Goodwin. How you
- 0:21Speaker 2: doing okay?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Mark? Thank you? Hey.
- 0:24Speaker 2: We all know the longtime editor of the New York
- 0:27Speaker 2: Post call Allen. Uh. So what I put on the
- 0:31Speaker 2: television Cale Allan is the uh his phone must have
- 0:36Speaker 2: been going crazy, don't you think.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, this guy's name is Cole and calls a
- 0:44Speaker 3: former a great, great friend of mine, a great guy.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I'm a terrific editor, a wonderful, wonder old person as well.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, great guy. But when he was watching TV SAT
- 0:54Speaker 2: I think must have said, oh my.
- 0:55Speaker 1: God, so my lone lost cousin.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Now you're looking back on this at this dinner.
- 1:04Speaker 2: It didn't seem it at the time, but it is
- 1:06Speaker 2: crazy to have the whole administration in one ballroom that's
- 1:10Speaker 2: got thousands of hotel guests unchecked in there isn't it.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you've got the president, the vice president, and the
- 1:17Speaker 3: speaker all within relatively short distance of each other. Now, look,
- 1:23Speaker 3: I think there's room for a lot of second guests
- 1:27Speaker 3: in here because of the good fortune that the security
- 1:34Speaker 3: ultimately worked. But it's almost a miracle that worked, and
- 1:39Speaker 3: it wouldn't take a miracle to get around it. I mean,
- 1:44Speaker 3: the ticketing issues, the location of the Magda tamers, and
- 1:48Speaker 3: as you say, it is a hotel, so the shooter
- 1:53Speaker 3: apparently was a guest at the hotel. I had a room,
- 1:57Speaker 3: So you can't really close down the hotel for a
- 2:01Speaker 3: week in advance or anything like that. So there's gonna
- 2:05Speaker 3: have to be a lot of rethinking how you do
- 2:08Speaker 3: the security. As I say, it worked, but it seems
- 2:12Speaker 3: to be more a matter of luck than actual planning
- 2:17Speaker 3: that native work.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Also, just one crazy guy with a gun. Imagine
- 2:22Speaker 2: if it had been ten guys, so, you know, or
- 2:24Speaker 2: something else like that, or the gas or some of
- 2:27Speaker 2: the kind of happened.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Well, that's right, or bombs that you could plant it
- 2:32Speaker 3: a dance, So you just have to wonder how much
- 2:35Speaker 3: security is there in the dance. For all we know,
- 2:39Speaker 3: there was a luncheon in that room that day, or
- 2:42Speaker 3: a dinner the night before. So again that's the problem
- 2:47Speaker 3: where you're talking about a private facility that the organization
- 2:52Speaker 3: is the sense that you're renting for the night.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Hey, Michael Goodwin, great column yesterday about the President Trump,
- 2:59Speaker 2: Benjamin net and Yahoo. Obviously they both want to achieve
- 3:03Speaker 2: success in I Ran. This has been the dream of
- 3:05Speaker 2: every present for decades to get rid of this terrorist,
- 3:08Speaker 2: horrible regime. Now that somebody's actually doing it, can are
- 3:13Speaker 2: you a little shocked at the backlash over this?
- 3:17Speaker 3: Well, if it were anybody but Trump, I would be shocked.
- 3:22Speaker 1: But because of.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Trump, I think we have to take it as a
- 3:26Speaker 3: business as usual propositions from the media. But what's interesting, too, Mark,
- 3:33Speaker 3: is that nothing Yahoo in the Israeli media. In the
- 3:37Speaker 3: American media, nothing Yahoo is evil. He taught he hoodwink
- 3:43Speaker 3: Trump into going to war and for its Israel's a war,
- 3:47Speaker 3: supposedly according to the New York Times and others are
- 3:50Speaker 3: on the lap. Whereas in Israel nothing Yahoo as seen
- 3:55Speaker 3: as wishy washy because it keeps deferring to Trump. I mean,
- 4:00Speaker 3: it's a weird set of circumstances. I mean, this is
- 4:04Speaker 3: the greatest alliance since NATO, right, which we don't know
- 4:10Speaker 3: anymore really exists.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But this is a great alliance.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Israel accepts its role as the junior partner. And so
- 4:21Speaker 3: I think these two countries alone have achieved the remarkable things.
- 4:26Speaker 3: And you know, Mark think also that America and Israel
- 4:31Speaker 3: are doing the fighting not only for our two countries,
- 4:35Speaker 3: but they're also doing the fighting for the Arab countries
- 4:39Speaker 3: and the Gulf. Right, they're not doing any fighting. They're
- 4:42Speaker 3: not sending their planes the drop bombs on Iran. Iran
- 4:46Speaker 3: is attacking them that I'm not aware of a single
- 4:50Speaker 3: Arab response to any of these attacks by Iran. So
- 4:55Speaker 3: Israel and the United States right now are the might
- 5:00Speaker 3: it's ally alliance of their own. They only ten countries,
- 5:07Speaker 3: there are just two of them. It's quite as spectacle.
- 5:10Speaker 3: And to see them both a views by their home media,
- 5:15Speaker 3: I think you're just foolish.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's like seeing the two greatest home run
- 5:19Speaker 2: hitters back to back. Obviously we have the greatest military,
- 5:22Speaker 2: but if you're going to war in Iran, nobody has
- 5:25Speaker 2: more incredible intelligence than Israel. Obviously, the targets we hit
- 5:30Speaker 2: new to hit that first day, we can thank them
- 5:32Speaker 2: for it. So it's right you should be applotting this alliance.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Absolutely, And I think there's a there's an arrow hungreality
- 5:43Speaker 3: about some of the criticism. I mean, I mentioned, you know,
- 5:47Speaker 3: Churchill and FDR having problems with Fallen in World War Two,
- 5:53Speaker 3: and you have to three work together long enough to
- 5:57Speaker 3: defeat hit nothing once smootally, but in fact it worked.
- 6:03Speaker 3: And I think this idea that there can be a
- 6:07Speaker 3: perfect alliance where there's no hiccups anywhere, that's naive. I mean,
- 6:13Speaker 3: two different people, two different countries, two different cultures in
- 6:17Speaker 3: many ways, two different militaries, and so I think you
- 6:22Speaker 3: have done remarkable work together. And it's childish to be
- 6:27Speaker 3: nick ticking so much.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good word. It's just childish, this whole
- 6:31Speaker 2: thing about Trump, It's just it's just childish. Now, the
- 6:35Speaker 2: only problem with Donald Trump. He does all these great things,
- 6:37Speaker 2: but it's kind of like Rudy Giuliani get rid of
- 6:40Speaker 2: all the crime. Once they're gone, you end up with
- 6:43Speaker 2: a Deblasio, you end up with a mom Dannie who
- 6:46Speaker 2: puts everything right back to what it was. Are we
- 6:47Speaker 2: going to have that problem with the presidency.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Well, we don't know, Dowie.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I mean, it's we have I think if if Trump
- 6:58Speaker 3: finishes this war successfully, and he suddenly intends to, then
- 7:04Speaker 3: I think and the American casualties are kept to a minimum,
- 7:10Speaker 3: if the inflation that is sparked by the energy dissipates quickly,
- 7:17Speaker 3: then I think the Republicans will be a good steed
- 7:20Speaker 3: for the next presidential election. We'll have to see what
- 7:24Speaker 3: happens in the midterms meanwhile, because that could the Democrats
- 7:30Speaker 3: take either or both houses of Congress. Of course they're
- 7:34Speaker 3: going to use that power to torture from and to
- 7:37Speaker 3: try to reverse some of his falls, which I think
- 7:41Speaker 3: would be give a stake. But that's where the Democrats,
- 7:44Speaker 3: that's where they lived is on the far left.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Michael Goodwin, let me just change subjects from it.
- 7:50Speaker 2: The race for governor. I know it's very, very tough
- 7:53Speaker 2: for Republican but Bruce Blakeman is different, he seems different.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I just feel he's got a great chance to win.
- 8:00Speaker 2: What do you think.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I think he has eight chance.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I think it is a reasonable chance, maybe the best chance.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I mean, look, Lee Jelden gave Hoko a tight race
- 8:14Speaker 3: five four years ago in part because he made some
- 8:18Speaker 3: big mistakes, and Zelden and never run a state wide
- 8:23Speaker 3: race when he was opportunistic, and and Hoche mistakes were big.
- 8:32Speaker 3: But look, I think he's going to have to win it.
- 8:36Speaker 3: He's gonna have to take it from her. I wish
- 8:40Speaker 3: he were a little more aggressive. I don't see him
- 8:44Speaker 3: out and about as much as I would like to.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I think, for example, Bar when Hoko, he'll pass the
- 8:54Speaker 3: Peter the teenage her tax and gloated about it. I
- 8:59Speaker 3: did not say see a single statement from Blatant for
- 9:02Speaker 3: twenty four hours. I think he's got to be opportunistic.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I think he's gonna be faster on the seat to
- 9:10Speaker 3: steal the momentum from her on days like that. Who
- 9:15Speaker 3: knows one of the mistakes you'll make, But I think
- 9:17Speaker 3: you have to be ready to pounce when.
- 9:20Speaker 1: She does, because you've.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Got to draw that distinction at every opportunity, particularly once
- 9:27Speaker 3: he's talking about increased taxes and.
- 9:29Speaker 1: All of that. That's where he has to win the race.
- 9:34Speaker 2: But he's been pretty good at almost every issue, pouncing
- 9:36Speaker 2: instantly on Instagram, Twitter, all that stuff, and he is
- 9:40Speaker 2: out there a lot. We don't see it because it's
- 9:42Speaker 2: a lot of it is upstate, but he has been
- 9:44Speaker 2: running around everywhere.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so I agree with it. I agree with you.
- 9:48Speaker 3: He's faster write view on taxes. So I think when
- 9:52Speaker 3: days are like tax you have to remind the voters.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You know, this is.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Why we need to get rid of her. And I
- 10:01Speaker 3: just I would like to hear more of that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I have to hear more of the faster more.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I'd like to see him talk that way. There's a
- 10:09Speaker 3: little for my taste. Honestly, it's a little reserves. It's
- 10:13Speaker 3: a little bit of a shoot and tie guy. What
- 10:16Speaker 3: I think he needs to put the Boston guns on
- 10:19Speaker 3: at more.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Well, we'll see. He's pretty good at that. Just it's
- 10:21Speaker 2: only it's only April.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But he'll pick up the p that's true. A long
- 10:27Speaker 1: way to go.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Michael Goodwin, great stuff. Everybody. Go to the
- 10:30Speaker 2: New York Post website. You can read Michael Goodwin's column.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's in the Post every Sunday and every Wednesday. Michael Goodwin,
- 10:37Speaker 2: thanks for being with us, My pleasure, Mark all take care. Hey,

- 11:00Speaker 2: Travis and then three o'clock the most listened to radio
- 11:03Speaker 2: show in America, Sean Hannity. Right after the shooting at
- 11:09Speaker 2: the White House, correspondsinger immediately, Sean Handy was on the

- 11:15Speaker 2: you the whole story because he was able to listen
