Latest / Elon Musk Podcast / SpaceX Preparing for Starship Launch
Transcript
- 0:00We're going to be talking about Starbase.
- 0:01We're going to be talking a little bit about Falcon Heavy
- 0:03and the upcoming mission on the 26th, and we're also going to be
- 0:07talking about SpaceX and whatever comes to our mind.
- 0:11So first, there's nothing happening at Starbase.
- 0:14No. And no testing happening.
- 0:17Nothing happening at Starbase. There's a bunch of stuff
- 0:19happening at Starbase, but there's no testing, larger
- 0:22testing and like cryogenic testing or things that could
- 0:24close down the roadways for the foreseeable future.
- 0:27Closures were canceled for the 24th and the 25th of this week,
- 0:30so we're going to be moving on hopefully to maybe later this
- 0:35week, I'm 100% sure about that. But they already did some
- 0:39testing on Booster and they've already done a bunch of testing
- 0:41on the ship. So it seems like the next step
- 0:45would be to maybe, I don't even know what the next step would be
- 0:48because they have the whole deluge system they have, the OLM
- 0:50is revamped. There's so many things that
- 0:53could happen and we don't know the procedure for that anymore.
- 0:58And last week we've seen testing on Chip 25, we've seen testing
- 1:02on Boosters 9 and 10. The Orbit launch mount also got
- 1:06tested fully. So we've seen the Dellage
- 1:09system. We've served like the new plane
- 1:11at the bottom. We've seen the quick
- 1:13disconnects, both of them working, the obviously the
- 1:16chopsticks are working because they lifted up Booster 9 to put
- 1:19it on the launch mount. So it seems like it's a fully
- 1:23functional. Stage 0, it looks like it, but
- 1:28yeah, it seems like they're in a spot where they could what they
- 1:33know more now than they did before the first launch.
- 1:37It seems like they've got the processes figured out.
- 1:40They have, They've streamlined a lot of the processes because
- 1:42they need to be able to crank these things out.
- 1:45They want to launch two or three a day at some point.
- 1:48It would be nice to see that they'll be insane.
- 1:51I wouldn't know what to think at that point.
- 1:54Yeah, it's pretty impressive to watch how the last three months,
- 1:59I guess it's been or so since the first one, since the first
- 2:03orbital attempt and all the changes.
- 2:06And they're coming out of this way stronger than they went into
- 2:09it, and it should be really interesting to see.
- 2:11And as is typical with SpaceX, once they do something.
- 2:15Once they know they've got it and they move on to the next
- 2:19thing. So they've already launched this
- 2:20once. It didn't make it to orbit, had
- 2:23some issues. But they were designed once so
- 2:26they know what they're doing and now they're just moving on to
- 2:28what the next stage, whatever that is, fixing the launch
- 2:30mountain and all those things tread looking into the hot fire
- 2:33situation, which I'm not exactly sure how that's going to stand
- 2:38out in the end, but we'll see. Yeah, the separate, the stage
- 2:41separation is going to be the most exciting part.
- 2:44The launch, I think they're going to be Okay.
- 2:47I don't know. We're not 100% sure if they're
- 2:48going to be okay with that one, but the stage separation is
- 2:52going to be wild. But it's going to.
- 2:55If the engineers and everybody at SpaceX thinks that's the way
- 2:59to go, it seems like a really proper way to separate this
- 3:02thing because it is freaking massive.
- 3:04Yeah. Do you know, do you know if
- 3:06Booster 9 and Ship 25 are set up for that?
- 3:09I don't believe they are. I don't believe they're set up
- 3:11for separation. Elon said something about it in
- 3:16a tweet, but I'm not exactly sure what he said about it or
- 3:19what booster or ship will be the first the for a separation like
- 3:23that. It might be they might have
- 3:25already set it up, but I like I've seen all the pictures and
- 3:27the videos and things of the booster I'm sure, but I'm.
- 3:31Pretty sure it's still in development stage, yeah.
- 3:35These two vehicles are designed for it.
- 3:38Yeah. It seems like a new thing where
- 3:40they're like, ooh, that didn't work.
- 3:42Well, they'll probably want to test that at Massey's or
- 3:44something, but want to test the fire on the Dome to make sure
- 3:47that it's not going to melt through or whatever.
- 3:49Yeah, I'm trying to get it. I guess top to you.
- 3:52Yeah, I don't believe that's. I don't think these are set up
- 3:55for it, for sure. Yeah, I don't think so either.
- 3:57Like, you and I were talking before the broadcast started
- 3:59about the massiveness of this rocket and how, like, how big.
- 4:04And I always say it like every time I get online, I'm like,
- 4:06this thing's freaking huge. Yeah, but this shows.
- 4:09Think about how big your car is and how big you are, and then
- 4:14look at the scale of this compared to a vehicle, like just
- 4:16a regular car. It's absolutely massive.
- 4:19So absolutely, so crazy. It's it still blows my mind.
- 4:23Like I like I've seen in person, so I know how big it is.
- 4:27But just even seeing pictures of it, I'm like okay.
- 4:30This reminds me of how big massive it is to think about
- 4:34launching A skyscraper. They're basically launching A
- 4:36skyscraper to orbit and how do they do that 33 Raptor engines
- 4:44and that works like. That's a lot of fuel.
- 4:48That's a lot of awful lot of fuel, awful lot of thrust, and
- 4:52they made it off the pad last time.
- 4:54So the deluge system was tested. We know that.
- 4:57We know the deluge system was tested.
- 4:58Are they going to do you think they're going to do a static
- 5:00fire with the deluge system to test this deluge and the static
- 5:05fire at the same time? Absolutely.
- 5:07Yes, absolutely. Yeah.
- 5:08I was just thinking about that well before we went on as well.
- 5:11Yeah, I think that every static. Fire from a booster.
- 5:13From now on, we'll have the deluge running.
- 5:16Yeah, I think so too. I think it's ongoing testing as
- 5:18well as protection of the launch map.
- 5:21Yeah, and as long as obviously the village system works and it
- 5:25doesn't completely need to rip it apart, I get to the country
- 5:28class, the skip real, real quick.
- 5:30Back to how big this thing is. Rocket Future.
- 5:33Andrew C at the Rocket Future on Twitter, you can see a person.
- 5:40This is the this is like 1/4 of the way up this thing.
- 5:43Yeah, and what a beautiful shot. A great shot, yeah.
- 5:48And I don't even understand how these people have the nerve to
- 5:53get into this lift, for one, because I'm afraid of heights.
- 6:14I'm not sure exactly what ship he's working on.
- 5:57But two, and then they have to do, like, one of the world's
- 6:00most complicated engineering feats.
- 6:02So they have the pressure of, Oh yeah, I'm 150 feet off the
- 6:05ground or whatever. Also, I have to do these things
- 6:07that are crucial to get this thing off the ground and not
- 6:11blow up. So yeah, obviously that's the
- 6:14rocket. My gas in this Booster 10.
- 6:18I don't know why they would be. Have anybody up on one of the
- 6:21retired boosters, if you will. Yeah, my guess is that's Booster
- 6:2510, but I haven't confirmed that.
- 6:27We just saw that picture just before we go on.
- 6:29Yeah, shout out to anybody that that goes up in these things.
- 6:33And shout out to Andrew. See from the Rocket Future for
- 6:36taking beautiful shots repeatedly at Starbase.
- 6:40So at the Rocket future on Twitter, you'll follow him.
- 6:44Awesome dude. And also awesome shots.
- 6:47Booster 9, like we said was lifted up onto the launch mount.
- 6:51What a beautiful shot too. Like how cool is this?
- 6:53Yeah gorgeous. They got the shot from below and
- 6:56also all the stars above in the sky.
- 6:58It's such a cool shot and the lighting on the launch mount it
- 7:03makes it look just illuminated and amazing and chopstick as you
- 7:07said before they work which is great.
- 7:10Apparently they seem to be working fine as can you notice
- 7:13the there's some cladding at the bottom of the launch tower too.
- 7:17See that There's some? It looks like there's some
- 7:18reinforcements at the. For sure, yeah.
- 7:21At the tower, it looks like. Yeah, they figured.
- 7:23All the plan actually was to clad the entire tower in
- 7:26something. Whether it was going to be as
- 7:29protective as this is, I don't know, but to this certainly
- 7:32seems to be productive. I love this shot because it
- 7:34looks like there's camo drawn all over the Starship.
- 7:37Because of the shadows, I didn't even notice.
- 7:39That new Starship saying it looks like it looks really
- 7:42futuristic? Yeah, that's really cool.
- 7:44Yeah, I didn't even notice that. Wow.
- 7:47Yeah. And then there's another one
- 7:49they have from a little bit different angle.
- 7:52But yeah, it's still the Texas night sky, which is absolutely
- 7:54beautiful. That's one thing that I can say
- 7:57about my time down there is that you could see all the stars,
- 8:02everything, because it was 25 miles away from Brownsville and
- 8:07everything else. You could look up and you could
- 8:09see everything. I would spend some nights down
- 8:12there just to get away from the the lights of the city and I
- 8:16would just go to the beach late at night, just hang out, look at
- 8:19the rocket and just just stare up at the stars.
- 8:21I would just lay on. I didn't really lay on the sand
- 8:23because it's you get sand everywhere.
- 8:25And of course it's just like Anakin knows it's everywhere.
- 8:30It gets everywhere and it's coarse, it's coarse.
- 8:35So I lay on my car like late at night, look up at the sky and
- 8:38just like, look over. Oh yeah, there's a big rocket
- 8:40there too. But it's a beautiful place,
- 8:42Yeah. And it's a great place to launch
- 8:44a rocket, too. Yeah, what a great shot, though.
- 8:46We're getting into the beauty of all of this as well because
- 8:50we're like, it's such a cool thing that Starship is going to
- 8:55be capable of in the future, bringing huge loads to space.
- 8:59And it's going to be, it's going to be wild what happens.
- 9:02And I'm not sure whether it's actually going to happen.
- 9:05I don't know if it's actually going to happen, but once
- 9:07they've got this thing down pat and they're launching.
- 9:10Right, left and center. I hope that they put some
- 9:13attention to the aesthetics of it all.
- 9:16Certainly it's beautiful ship, all stainless steel and pretty,
- 9:20but it would be nice if we started seeing that science
- 9:24fiction future at some point right at once.
- 9:27They've got they're launching 100 of these a month or whatever
- 9:30they do want to do, they start to look into it and go.
- 9:33OK, how can we make this not only functional, but look really
- 9:37awesome as well? Because.
- 9:39That's one thing that society's lost, I think, in the last 30
- 9:43years or so is that aesthetics of things.
- 9:46But we're so concerned about making things as cheap as
- 9:48possible that we've we've made it as as industrial as possible
- 9:53as well. It'll be nice to get back to
- 9:55those circles, aesthetic values, up the 50s where you've got the
- 9:59streamlining or shapes and whatnot.
- 10:01It'd be cool to see that come back.
- 10:03I didn't even think about that future.
- 10:05So do you think they would, Do you think they would paint the
- 10:07whole rocket or do you think they would just slap a logo on
- 10:09it? What do you how are you feeling
- 10:11about this? I don't.
- 10:12Know what I'm thinking. I don't know what it is, but
- 10:15maybe the maybe the cladding over some of the plumbing on the
- 10:18booster gets a little bit of a a treatment where it's a little
- 10:22bit smoother or a little more aerodynamics, OK, as opposed to
- 10:26the sort of square bulky look that we've got now.
- 10:29I don't know. I don't know.
- 10:31I'm not responsible for that. If they want me to be
- 10:34responsible for it, I'm available.
- 10:38The moment I hadn't put too much thought into it.
- 10:41Yeah, no, that sounds awesome. But I'm just going back to to,
- 10:45we were discussing them putting the, the cladding up the tower,
- 10:48right? Yeah, it's in all the drawings,
- 10:50but they never did it. Little things like that are even
- 10:53one step closer. Plus, we're talking about
- 10:55Starbase. He wants to build a city there,
- 10:58right? Yeah, that's to support all the
- 11:00the launches in construction. Whatnot's going on down there in
- 11:03development? It'd be nice to see Starbase.
- 11:06Become a little bit more aesthetic than factory.
- 11:11Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:12I think how be you amazing. Make it a tourist destination
- 11:16right now it is. But it's like you got to really
- 11:18be end of this stuff to go down there.
- 11:19You got to sacrifice a little bit to get down there.
- 11:22Yeah, I think it's something Kennedy Space Center.
- 11:24It's a it's like Disney little bit.
- 11:27People go there just to go see rockets and stuff that are
- 11:29interested in Space Flight and engineering and maybe just like
- 11:34the unknown people are like hey this is a giant rocket or hey,
- 11:36this is what Saturn does or whatever.
- 11:38There's engineering and science all over the place down there.
- 11:41So the I think this would be a really cool thing.
- 11:44Have tours of it when they're not actually launching or when
- 11:46they're not, whether or not testing, have a guided tour of
- 11:49the facility or something like that.
- 11:51I don't know if ITAR would allow that, but you could have a
- 11:53guided tour along the road and show people hey, this is this,
- 11:58Bay does this, we're building this here, blah blah blah.
- 12:01It would also be really cool if they they can even do that on
- 12:03their socials instead of having people down there in person.
- 12:07It would be really neat if Elon did a tour of everything like he
- 12:10did with Tim at the Everyday Astronaut, but he does it like
- 12:14for a produced video for SpaceX, which would be really cool and
- 12:19to show hey, this is what we do here now, but we want to do this
- 12:22here too. That'd be really interesting to
- 12:24see too. Absolutely have a manager or
- 12:26something. It doesn't have to be Elon, but
- 12:28Elon would get the most. Of it has to be Elon.
- 12:30Yeah, one of his clones. Yeah.
- 12:34Yeah. Maybe Gwen could do it.
- 12:36That would be cool. Yeah.
- 12:38Yeah. They're not doing anything
- 12:39right. Yeah, Gwen's not doing anything.
- 12:40She's not. Don't mind coming out and do a
- 12:42tour for regular folk. Yeah, she's not building the
- 12:45future over there. Not at all.
- 12:47Yeah. So the Yeah, so the future
- 12:49starbase looks pretty bright in the next few.
- 12:53I don't know. So they're so we were talking
- 12:56about the processes before and how they've streamlined
- 12:58everything, but do you think they've streamlined it to to a
- 13:03better place where they could launch this in August?
- 13:06I reached out to a few people on face or not on Facebook, but on
- 13:10on YouTube and on Twitter and a little bit on Discord.
- 13:13And here's here's one person, old gamer noob on YouTube said
- 13:20the way the ship was tested with an engine static fire right off
- 13:25the bat, and with the booster now having already been fully
- 13:28filled with cryogenic liquids adventure, they'll unify some
- 13:31tests and make quick work of things.
- 13:33The FAA will be the main hold up this time, I think.
- 13:38So I have to agree that I think the FAA is going to be the last
- 13:44step. Of course I'm going to do Going
- 13:46to show that there it is right there, old gamer noob.
- 13:51Yeah, I I I believe I'm on record several places back when
- 13:57the back when the first launch happened and we saw the damage.
- 14:00I said the weekend of August 19th for a for a launch and I
- 14:06still stand on that. I think we're still go on that.
- 14:09On a go on that if the FAA gave them permission today, I think
- 14:12they could probably attend the launch in a week.
- 14:16I think that they're at that stage, they need to static fire.
- 14:20They've already static fires 25 and they were happy they didn't
- 14:23replace any Raptors and whatnot. Yep, they need to static fire 9.
- 14:27Booster 9 and I think that they could be ready to go right after
- 14:31that as long as everything was just was operating as it was.
- 14:35I think the hold up again will be as you say the FAAI think
- 14:37there was a lot of damage to the the compound as but as well as
- 14:42the a lot of concrete spread over the area around the launch
- 14:46site. So I think that there's some
- 14:47concern there that they'll want to address and get answered and
- 14:51then they're likely doing that already from the day at launch,
- 14:54I'm sure they've been talking to.
- 14:56Yeah, and giving reports on everything they're doing to
- 14:59repair things and whatnot and prevent it from happening again.
- 15:02The future. So I don't think it's going to
- 15:04be as. Long a wait for the FA.
- 15:07To to secure this, but it's just a matter of time.
- 15:10But yeah, I think that's a little less than a month we'll
- 15:13be launching this thing. Wow.
- 15:15Yeah. Stay by it.
- 15:16I stand by it. I think you're pretty right.
- 15:18I'm going to venture to say it's going to be a little bit later
- 15:22maybe. Septemberish, maybe.
- 15:25But Elon, even Elon was like, yeah, middle of August can be
- 15:28ready by the middle of August. And like you said they were
- 15:31talking to, they've been talking to the FA probably an hour, like
- 15:34within hours of the last launch. Within probably minutes.
- 15:38Within the last launch. Like the FAA was probably on the
- 15:40horn. Hey, what just happened, buddy?
- 15:42That just blew everything out there and they had these steps
- 15:46in place before they launched the first one and like they had
- 15:49lots of rockets. Over the years.
- 15:51Lots of rockets over the years that have blown up on the
- 15:53launchpad. Yep.
- 15:54Causing all kinds of damage. Yep.
- 15:57It's just this is just another one.
- 15:59Yeah, and this didn't blow up in launchpad, it blew up the
- 16:01launchpad. Same sort of deal, same kind of
- 16:06damage probably. I would imagine the only
- 16:09difference being that the tanks for all the cryogenic fluid and
- 16:12stuff were a little bit closer at the launch site than they
- 16:15were the Cape, I believe. But so that's probably the big
- 16:20difference here. I think that the.
- 16:23It's just a matter of time to get past these things.
- 16:26But it's happened before. And you know what?
- 16:29They expected it to blow up in the sky, then they expected to
- 16:31get off the launchpad, and the FAA knew that.
- 16:34So it's just a matter of satisfying them and I think that
- 16:37that won't be hard at all. Yeah, I agree with you.
- 16:40I think. I think they like they're
- 16:43showing them all the data that they get as they get it.
- 16:46They're showing them how were they're mitigating the problems
- 16:49that were on the pad and I think they'll just go, it'll break as
- 16:53much as they can, they'll breeze through this and then they'll be
- 16:56ready to launch. Now if the water deliard system
- 16:58and the static fire, static fires work perfectly the first
- 17:02time, they might do like A7 static fire like A7 engine and
- 17:07then a 14 or whatever and then go to 21 and be like can't
- 17:10static fire everything. So now we're going to launch it,
- 17:13then they'll stack it up and do a fill test probably on both the
- 17:17rocket or the ship and the booster maybe like and then
- 17:23launch it up one more time just to make sure all the systems
- 17:25work and then. Yeah.
- 17:27Did they do a static fire with the ship, with ship 24 on top of
- 17:30eight? I don't think so, no.
- 17:32I don't think they did. Yeah, they were just.
- 17:34They don't do. I'm surprised they don't do
- 17:35that, to be honest. I am.
- 17:38But I'm also, I totally understand why they don't,
- 17:41because if they do a static fire again one, it's almost like
- 17:46they're wasting time. I think because they've already
- 17:48done it. They've already tested those
- 17:50engines, and I've already tested all the systems.
- 17:52The only system that they wouldn't be able to test without
- 17:55the ship on top was like, is the ship going to fall off the
- 17:58booster? Yeah.
- 18:00And but that was part of the problem, right?
- 18:01Is that it didn't release, yeah. So is there anything to be seen
- 18:06observed from a static fire and how those lock pins work while
- 18:11at some place I would like to see that and?
- 18:14They did it. They've already launched this
- 18:16once. We talked about this earlier.
- 18:18SpaceX is very happy doing things once, having it work and
- 18:21moving on and saying that's the way we're going to do it every
- 18:23time. Yep.
- 18:24They only they've only really landed one ship successfully.
- 18:29Oh yeah, you're right, they moved on.
- 18:31They immediately move on to say we've done it, we're good.
- 18:33We did it. Move on.
- 18:34Yeah, yeah. And then you're going to need to
- 18:36prove that again. In my mind, but not in their
- 18:38minds. Apparently they've already
- 18:40launched the ship once in their minds.
- 18:42Is everything cool? Let's just go for it.
- 18:45Do they put 25 on top of nine and then statifier and then
- 18:52launch? I don't think.
- 18:56I don't think they need to. Yes, but as opposed to, I'm
- 19:00sorry, as opposed to Statifier 9 on its own.
- 19:04Ooh, OK do they just? Jump to the launch, basically
- 19:09okay. So this is.
- 19:10I think this could be an issue because if they static fire with
- 19:13the ship on top of the booster, could the ship get rattled?
- 19:19Move out of place? They might have to readjust it.
- 19:22That's better point. Which is better than when it's
- 19:25in the air, yeah. I think that's the whole point
- 19:27of static firing with the ship on top is to see that that would
- 19:30make sense. Yeah, that would make 100%
- 19:32sense. Will SpaceX do that?
- 19:34Probably not, because they're just like work last time.
- 19:38We didn't do it last time and it seemed to work.
- 19:39I don't know I can. I'm leaning more towards them
- 19:43not static firing 9 before the ship's on top center, firing it
- 19:47once and then launching. Oh like a 20 something odd.
- 19:51Engine static fire maybe? Yeah, something like that with
- 19:54the ship on top and this. Hey, it didn't fall out saying
- 19:56Let. Go, guys, Everything looks cool.
- 19:58Let's launch tomorrow. Yep.
- 20:01That makes more. Sense, which is the standard
- 20:03process for Falcon launch as well, right?
- 20:05Yeah. Yeah, they put it on the thing,
- 20:07they static fire and then the next day or two they launch.
- 20:10Yeah, so the ship would be something like the like a
- 20:14fairing or something on a regular on a Falcon rocket.
- 20:17Just like the same thing, just a huge fairing.
- 20:20It's a second stage, right? Yeah, second stage, gigantic
- 20:23second stage. So that would make sense that
- 20:25they do that. That's where they want to get
- 20:27to. I think that's where you have to
- 20:29get to eventually. It's the skips, what like a week
- 20:33and a half of testing because they do a static fire, then they
- 20:37like have to close down the roads.
- 20:38You have to get the data from that static fire, wait about 3
- 20:41days or so, refuel it. That makes way more sense.
- 20:46Way more sense Will they do it for this one.
- 20:49Yeah, but to say if not this one, then the next one, I bet
- 20:53they try and do it. Yeah, yeah, I I would love them.
- 20:57I didn't even think about that until you just said that.
- 20:59So my mind's going crazy, but it seems like they're just Wis.
- 21:03Just like straight through all these tests.
- 21:05This happened real quick. They already had the booster
- 21:07there. The ship.
- 21:08Yeah, Everything is being tested at Massey's beforehand.
- 21:11Everything's getting ready to roll.
- 21:13I don't. Remember when it was that?
- 21:15Yeah, I don't remember when it was that my fear went away that
- 21:17the ship was going to implode when they're doing a cryo test,
- 21:21probably 6-7, maybe not seven, but maybe ship eight.
- 21:26That is when I started to think, OK, this thing's going to
- 21:28actually not going to implode and it's going to work and.
- 21:31I still it boggles my mind that we're talking about four
- 21:34millimeters of or five millimeters of stainless steel
- 21:37holding all this cryogenic fluid in place.
- 21:40Yet at least I feel confident that it's not going to implode
- 21:44that of course Speaking of implosions, the test ship set of
- 21:4827 that you can see the Dome top Dome of that imploded after the
- 21:52last testing. That is interesting.
- 21:55Obviously we're testing that to failure.
- 21:57They wanted. They wanted that to happen.
- 22:00Yeah, I think an implosion is better than an explosion in that
- 22:03case. Yep.
- 22:03I think they're probably quite happy with the results of that.
- 22:06Yep to this. Whatever they were testing,
- 22:08yeah. Whatever they were testing.
- 22:10New steel or new systems or whatever happened to be, Yeah, I
- 22:15think they're yeah. And if they move past that,
- 22:17they'll have Ship 28, Ship 29. I don't even know how many ships
- 22:20are down there. Now I have I've lost count of
- 22:22which ships are down there and what boosters are of like
- 22:26readily available because I'm focusing on the ship that's
- 22:29going to launch and the other stuff that's happening.
- 22:32It's super important. But also like it's off there
- 22:37somewhere and I think that's where everybody else is at too,
- 22:39is that this is an amazing feat that will happen.
- 22:43Like you said, Ship 10, Ship 10 head or not ship 10, but
- 22:47booster, they're doing the booster, all sorts of boosters
- 22:50and ships and testing everything.
- 22:53It's like, how can I keep track of everything?
- 22:55Yeah. And I'll just, I'll leave that
- 22:57space I have. An Excel spreadsheet.
- 22:59To be honest with you, they're probably yeah, yeah, they're
- 23:01fine, They're fine. Yeah, I know that they're
- 23:04building Ship 30 right now. Believe they're setting that and
- 23:08it looks pretty slick, like it's starting to really look like
- 23:13they know what they're doing as far as the tiles go and all of
- 23:16that. It just happens now.
- 23:18And it's got a, it's got the. That would be insane even.
- 23:21I think it. We need to keep thinking that
- 23:24they're moving forward, right? We need to keep thinking that
- 23:26they're thinking, what's the next step?
- 23:28This next ship's going to make it orbit.
- 23:30So next one after that why don't we throw some startlings up?
- 23:34May as well that that makes they have to move forward with the
- 23:37starlink program as fast as possible.
- 23:39They need to make money and getting eczema.
- 23:42What is it like 10 I think at the at this time for the regular
- 23:46like? Falcon Money Nine, Yeah, yeah,
- 23:49something like that for a Falcon launch.
- 23:50Like they're like throwing away money at this point when they
- 23:53can get like 20 or 30 in a Starship.
- 23:57So does one Starship launch, even if it's an expendable
- 24:00Starship, which is probably going to happen for the next 10
- 24:04starships, then at least get some star links up there and
- 24:07make the money back from the Starship launch?
- 24:09Yep. So yeah, make that money back,
- 24:12fund Starship and just keep going with it.
- 24:15And that's how they're going to fund the Starship program going
- 24:17forward is I think with the Star Link launches and they also
- 24:21have, they have some customers like at Bay like just ready to
- 24:25launch on this thing, it's once it's ready to go.
- 24:29Once it's proven, yeah, Once it's proven and they know that
- 24:31they can get satellites into orbit, they know they can get
- 24:34heavy. They need a heavy lift rocket to
- 24:35get some stuff up there. I wonder.
- 24:37If we see, I wonder if we start to see satellite companies
- 24:40building flat satellites that could be just has dispensed if
- 24:44you will as opposed to the traditional box shape.
- 24:48Satellite. Whether they start to compress
- 24:49them and make them fit out that door, that's a good idea.
- 24:53But maybe they can assemble themselves once they're launched
- 24:56or something like that. Yeah, like a the solar panels
- 24:59rolled out and whatnot, like how the James Webb telescope
- 25:02unfurled it. And yeah.
- 25:04Exactly like that. It would certainly make
- 25:07everything less complicated. And you could put 15 Starlink
- 25:11and three regular satellites and this, that and the other just
- 25:15stack them. In order in the Starship and
- 25:18keep launching about as you need to.
- 25:22That'd be incredible. I'm trying to find at this
- 25:24point. Remember they had a PES, They
- 25:26had a Starship where the front opened like I was trying to find
- 25:30that graphic but I can't find. It that was what's in my head,
- 25:32I'm thinking. I wonder if that even makes
- 25:34sense anymore. I don't Unless you're.
- 25:37Perhaps collecting an old satellite to fix it or just to
- 25:40get rid of space check or something like that.
- 25:42I wonder if that even makes sense anymore, whether the pest
- 25:45dispenser is the way the future for that sort of thing, because
- 25:48how big of a satellite you really need to launch these days
- 25:51with micro everything, right? Yeah, this thing is still going
- 25:55to be what's probably 6 meters wide, I would imagine.
- 25:58At the very least, Yeah. And who?
- 26:01And that's probably. I don't know how tall the pest
- 26:04Spencer is, but probably a meter at least, if not more.
- 26:10Yeah, so 6 meters by 1 meter and then unfurls to whatever size
- 26:13you need. I don't know that you need a set
- 26:15weight larger than that these days.
- 26:17Yeah, everything's smaller. Now you can.
- 26:19We have the world's knowledge. So much in these box satellites
- 26:23they're sending up and the yeah, the cube sats and everything.
- 26:25Yeah, that's what I meant to say.
- 26:28Same thing. They're a box.
- 26:32Yeah, so Speaking of satellites, this whole start Starship thing
- 26:38is predicated by the Falcon Heavy launch, so there's a
- 26:44readiness review happen for a target of Wednesday, July 26th
- 26:48for Falcon Heavy's launch of the Hughes Connects Jupiter 3E Star
- 26:5314 said. Like why do they make these
- 26:55names? You got enough names?
- 26:57Come on, man. This kid somebody.
- 27:01Short of it, it's a communication satellite.
- 27:03Yeah, yeah, it's a communication satellite.
- 27:06It's going to be the heaviest geostationary satellite ever
- 27:10launched at just over 9 metric tons.
- 27:12Wow size. It is probably not.
- 27:15No, I don't think they. I don't think they gave us.
- 27:17Any sort of size, it fits inside the basically 4 meter wide, I
- 27:23guess Probably 5 meter wide faring right?
- 27:25Yeah, yeah. So it it's quite large.
- 27:28I'm sure it's nine metric tons. The thing is like 9 tons for a
- 27:33satellite. What is in there?
- 27:35That's and this is supposed to be.
- 27:36Graded all new technology, micro technology version of this,
- 27:42these types of satellites. This is the obviously the
- 27:45state-of-the-art communication satellite.
- 27:48Interesting that it's still that big.
- 27:50Yeah, not 9 tons. It's so how.
- 27:53What? A couple tons for a car?
- 27:56Yeah, yeah, yeah. Five cars based, yeah.
- 28:00Or maybe maybe five cars. That's how much it weighs.
- 28:04Like what's in this thing? We don't know.
- 28:06Like how much technology can you pack into this thing?
- 28:09There's a KA band. It's a KA Band Satellite
- 28:12Multispot BMKA Band satellite based on the highly reliable SSL
- 28:171300 space proven platform which provides the flexibility to
- 28:21support a Broadway. In your head to you, dude.
- 28:24I'm just. I know IT and technology
- 28:26advances and I I just know some stuff.
- 28:28It features an entirely new architecture architecture based
- 28:32on broad range of technology advances, including the mini
- 28:35miniaturization of electronics. OK, miniaturization. 9 tons.
- 28:42Does that make sense? They're still made of gold.
- 28:44Yeah, that features entirely new.
- 28:47Architecture best we did look this up.
- 28:49Yeah, the KA band is microwave band.
- 28:52Microwave range. That's how it's setting.
- 28:54Beaming things back and forth to Earth?
- 28:56Yep. So that's coming up on the 26th.
- 28:59That's going to be a pretty wild launch and they say
- 29:02approximately 8 minutes after launch Falcon Heavy side
- 29:05boosters will return to Earth and land on landing zones one
- 29:10and two. So we're going to take a look at
- 29:11how that. Works.
- 29:13That's my favorite kind of landing for these.
- 29:15Yeah, side by side. So cool, man.
- 29:17Amazing. Keep in mind these things are
- 29:19seven story buildings, yeah, and they just gently place them back
- 29:24onto Earth. And it's so cool.
- 29:26I love how the legs open for last second.
- 29:29Everything's just so well timed. There's no, they don't cover
- 29:33anything. They just come down at a very
- 29:35consistent rate and settle down to Earth so beautifully.
- 29:39Yeah. I mean target I So I think about
- 29:42these landings and then I think about Blue Origins landings and
- 29:47I'm always afraid when Blue Origin lands its booster because
- 29:50it bounces like these go like these do a little tiny shuffle
- 29:54and kind of little tiny sway but Blue Origins kind of like point,
- 29:57point point. And you're like and the clever
- 30:00like, They're not quite sure. Are we actually going to do
- 30:02this? And then instead of gradually,
- 30:06slowly, like lowering your booster back, OK, we get to the
- 30:10last what, 7 feet or something? Those are.
- 30:13I don't know the actual size, but they're probably 1/4 the
- 30:15height of this. It's just completely different.
- 30:19Yeah. It's so cool, man.
- 30:21Like we we are literally living in the future.
- 30:24This is insane. This is something.
- 30:27Happening. Yeah, this is pretty normal.
- 30:29We expect these. Boosters of lands?
- 30:30No problem. Tomorrow.
- 30:32Yeah, something goes wrong. We'll be like.
- 30:34Whoa, yeah, you know, we'll have questions for months.
- 30:39But yeah, And as you can see how big they are, you can see the
- 30:43architecture around it. These pipes are quite large.
- 30:47There's little buildings, there's there's fuel tanks,
- 30:50there's some ground systems here.
- 30:52All these things are quite large.
- 30:53But like you said, it's like a seven story building.
- 30:56Huge. It's gigantic.
- 30:57Massive, yeah. And they just hover down.
- 31:00Maybe you can see the top of the boosters.
- 31:02They have the. I forgot what they're called.
- 31:04The the engines at the top that put the puff engines.
- 31:09What are they called? I can't remember what they're
- 31:10called, but why can't I think of that?
- 31:12The puff engines, So the little puff puffs at the top there that
- 31:17guide them in, I believe. It's called the.
- 31:19Yeah, yeah, you can see them guiding them in and they go real
- 31:26fast too. Like it's ridiculous how fast
- 31:28these systems go as you're landing A7 story building.
- 31:32So yeah, absolutely insane. Absolutely crazy that this is
- 31:35actually happening again because Falcon heavies gigantic still
- 31:41but nine metric tons for a satellite that yeah makes sense.
- 31:46I don't know it's it's yeah it's made of lead Thor's hammers in
- 31:50there. I.
- 31:53Wonder how many more Heavy launches we have.
- 31:57Falcon Heavy launches? Yeah, Falcon Heavy launches.
- 32:00I wonder how many more there are left.
- 32:01Because yeah, I think Starship takes it over.
- 32:04It's cheaper, I think, launch Starship than it is Falcon
- 32:07Heavy. I think so too.
- 32:08I think the usable I think three years.
- 32:13I mean I don't think they'll I don't think they'll retire it.
- 32:15I think it'll be there for specific use cases, but I don't
- 32:19think. I don't think we're going to see
- 32:21as many. I think 1 Starship is moon ready
- 32:26in the next few years. I think like the low earth orbit
- 32:29stuff is going to be no big deal.
- 32:31So three years, you're thinking 6 launches, something like that,
- 32:36yeah, maybe, yeah, 5-6 launches and then that's it.
- 32:41Like, I think unless, like I was saying like there's certain use
- 32:44cases for it, but I don't see why Starship wouldn't be able to
- 32:48do those use cases as well. Starship.
- 32:50Would do everything this thing can do And tent that is more,
- 32:53yeah. And is it?
- 32:55Maybe if there's something that's not big enough to go into
- 32:58a Starship, Something that's like just only needs a fairing
- 33:02for a Falcon Heavy. Or a Falcon.
- 33:04That's why I say you just pack it in, put it in the best
- 33:08dispenser and shoot it out as needed and send some more
- 33:10stylics up. SpaceX revolutionized rockets,
- 33:14so why wouldn't they revolutionize the delivery
- 33:17system as well? And if they're like, hey, if you
- 33:19want to launch out of Starship, you have to build your
- 33:21architecture for our device. It's like your phone.
- 33:25Like, yeah, you're if you're going to build an app for a
- 33:27phone, you have to build it according to Apple's procedures.
- 33:30So if you're going to build a satellite for our rocket, you
- 33:34have to build according to our procedures.
- 33:36Yeah. Or you can use the Falcon Heavy.
- 33:38But it's going to cost you three times as much.
- 33:40Yeah. Planned obsolescence.
- 33:42Good job, SpaceX. Good job.
- 33:45They did it. Oh man, they did it.
- 33:47They're a tech company. They did it.
- 33:50Steve Jobs would be proud. I can't wait for Starship to
- 33:54have some DLC. Oh yeah, $0.99 DLC is all.
- 34:00Right. Your satellite's up there Now.
- 34:02In order to launch it, we're going to need. $11 million,
- 34:06Yeah, we're going to be the million dollar subscription plan
- 34:08per month or you can buy the one year subscription plan for 11
- 34:16months. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 34:19So I think that's it for today. I think we covered everything we
- 34:22want to cover. So what we got out of this is
- 34:25that maybe they'll stack a ship on top of the booster and static
- 34:29fire it. That's my take away from this is
- 34:32that might be a really interesting and exciting thing.
- 34:35And we're thinking a month or two for a launch.
- 34:38Yep. Yep.
- 34:40That'll be absolutely insane. I can't wait.
- 34:42I think it's going to be really cool.
- 34:44And I can't wait for the just. It's going to be the most
- 34:48impressive thing if it actually works.
- 34:51Yeah, very cool, man. Yeah, Same here.
- 34:53All right, I guess that's it. Bye, everybody.
- 34:55I don't have a goodbye screen because we're doing.
- 34:57A different platform, Yeah. Thanks, Neil.
- 35:00Thank you for continuing to bring all this awesome info to
- 35:03all your fans. Yeah, thanks to all the fans.
- 35:05And thank you for helping out. And yeah, thanks to everybody
- 35:09for spending your time here with me today.
- 35:12Take care of yourselves and each other.
- 35:14Bye. Bye.
