Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, Lucius Borich, drummer and songwriter for the band COG.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We've got a tour coming up, a bit more of
- 0:10Speaker 1: an a regional kind of tour and we're we're we've
- 0:15Speaker 1: dubbed the part two of the Vinyl Tour, so it's
- 0:18Speaker 1: a continuation of the first half that we did in
- 0:21Speaker 1: the beginning of the year.
- 0:23Speaker 2: So yes, here I am.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Codd start the second leg of the Vinyl Tour on
- 0:29Speaker 3: October to fourth in Victoria before hitting Bar and Bay
- 0:32Speaker 3: w A for a few shows and ending up with
- 0:34Speaker 3: the Crowbar in Sydney as part of the Birthday week
- 0:36Speaker 3: on November twenty ninth. Mate, Like, there's been a bit
- 0:39Speaker 3: of time between the first run and this run, so
- 0:41Speaker 3: you to get back out of the road.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 0:45Speaker 1: There was quite a bit of a who ha with
- 0:48Speaker 1: the dms from people saying well, wh aren't you coming
- 0:51Speaker 1: to w A or why aren't you coming here? And
- 0:53Speaker 1: so it definitely made sense to when we had the
- 0:56Speaker 1: right timing between the three of us and the crew
- 0:59Speaker 1: and every thing to kind of forge the next part
- 1:02Speaker 1: of it really, So yeah, it worked out pretty well.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and you've already played some shows in Soubusraa Queensland,
- 1:08Speaker 3: New South Wales and act back in March.
- 1:11Speaker 4: So how they go down me and how were they received?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Really good? It was.
- 1:15Speaker 1: It was a really great you know between between the
- 1:21Speaker 1: three of us. You know, obviously it was based more
- 1:23Speaker 1: around sharing space and the new normal and it really
- 1:26Speaker 1: felt and I guess obviously with the with the people
- 1:28Speaker 1: who came to the shows as well, it felt very
- 1:32Speaker 1: you know, almost like we were re releasing that music
- 1:35Speaker 1: to some degree, which we were because we were doing
- 1:37Speaker 1: it on vinyl, yes, in that capacity, but it's just
- 1:40Speaker 1: had an error about it that time. I think everyone
- 1:43Speaker 1: was excited about, you know, romantically reminiscing about when you know,
- 1:48Speaker 1: those albums came out and we got together and and
- 1:51Speaker 1: you know created a good little vibe in the room
- 1:54Speaker 1: together you know, playing and all the rest of it
- 1:56Speaker 1: was and it was very similar. We had that air
- 1:58Speaker 1: to it, which was which was really good. And we
- 2:00Speaker 1: don't play too much so as much as we'd probably like.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But yeah, everyone seemed you know, very very happily, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: stoked about what happened, and so well we was.
- 2:12Speaker 2: It was really good fun.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I think these next show is going to be morell
- 2:16Speaker 3: the same. Are you're going to change things up a
- 2:17Speaker 3: little bit.
- 2:19Speaker 1: No, basic, We're still going to base it around the
- 2:22Speaker 1: two albums, you know, Sharing Space and New Normal and
- 2:26Speaker 1: probably keep a similar a similar set which we thought
- 2:29Speaker 1: random pretty good.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And you know, we didn't really.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Get to play enough of it on the first on
- 2:34Speaker 1: the first run, you know, I think we did eight
- 2:36Speaker 1: or ten dates, so you just wanted to keep kind
- 2:39Speaker 1: of playing, you know, again and try to try to
- 2:42Speaker 1: do the show again and again. So this gives us
- 2:44Speaker 1: the opportunity to kind of play the same show again
- 2:46Speaker 1: and obviously go to different places.
- 2:50Speaker 3: And so suppose that there's still one or two people
- 2:52Speaker 3: out there who haven't seen TOG Live before, mate, like
- 2:55Speaker 3: run us through a typical COG live show.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Look, it's pretty there's nothing too fancy about it, you know,
- 3:05Speaker 1: we don't. I've never never been one for it to
- 3:08Speaker 1: be fancy. Bells and whistles and jumps and you know,
- 3:12Speaker 1: come on, let's marsh you know, and all that type
- 3:14Speaker 1: of stuff. It's it's really about the music, and you know,
- 3:17Speaker 1: everything else kind of.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Adds to it. Yes, the light show adds to it.
- 3:20Speaker 1: We get a bit of that going on, and you know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: sometimes we have a backdrop and bits and pieces, and
- 3:27Speaker 1: but you know, I think really where we are no
- 3:29Speaker 1: thrills kind of band, taking it back to just you know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: the music.
- 3:32Speaker 2: We don't.
- 3:32Speaker 1: We pretty much wear the same clothes we've always worn
- 3:35Speaker 1: since you know, back in the day. You know, we
- 3:38Speaker 1: don't really we want it to be about the music.
- 3:40Speaker 1: We want the experience to be about the music, even
- 3:43Speaker 1: to some degree removing us, you know, like, yeah, we
- 3:46Speaker 1: add value and we play that. We play the music
- 3:48Speaker 1: and we're there and you can we have that into relationship.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But you know, sonically and vibrationally and tone, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: with the tones of the sounds and everything like that,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and you know what we're doing dynamically, hopefull, it's the
- 4:00Speaker 1: music that is the show and is more of the
- 4:04Speaker 1: star than say, you know, three of us on stage
- 4:07Speaker 1: or the light show or even the venue for that case.
- 4:10Speaker 1: You know, it's really about the music. So that's what
- 4:16Speaker 1: I've always liked about certain bands. You know, yeah, they
- 4:19Speaker 1: had the nice stuff there to I guess, you know,
- 4:24Speaker 1: had a little bit more spice or you know, or
- 4:27Speaker 1: color here and there. But musically, if it's not really
- 4:31Speaker 1: translating and that songs aren't that good. And you know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: when I'm at a show anyway, it doesn't matter how
- 4:38Speaker 1: many bells and whistles and things like that that they have,
- 4:41Speaker 1: it just doesn't move me, you know what I mean.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So we really just try to keep it as much
- 4:46Speaker 1: as possible just about the music and obviously play as
- 4:49Speaker 1: passionate as we can.
- 4:52Speaker 3: You've been doing this for a long time now, bro,
- 4:54Speaker 3: So does during life still appear to you as much
- 4:57Speaker 3: as it used to?
- 4:58Speaker 4: And what sorts of things do you do to keep
- 4:59Speaker 4: it interesting these days? Well?
- 5:06Speaker 1: I still Yeah, I think just traveling in, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 1: regardless of whether you're playing music or not, as fun
- 5:11Speaker 1: to do, you know, like just exploring. So I think
- 5:15Speaker 1: that's exciting. You know, music is a bit of a
- 5:18Speaker 1: vehicle for us to do that. So that never gets
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know, kind of old or stale.
- 5:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:23Speaker 1: There's always seems to be new venues popping up too.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Every now and again, there's new Like from the last
- 5:28Speaker 1: tour we played a bunch of new venues that we'd
- 5:31Speaker 1: never played before and that was that was really cool,
- 5:33Speaker 1: you know, so new environments and you know, and you
- 5:37Speaker 1: see how cities change and environments change as you as
- 5:40Speaker 1: you move around and as you tour over time, you know,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I guess we get to tour in a way that's
- 5:48Speaker 1: not too bunched up. So it's not like you're doing
- 5:51Speaker 1: four show and then you know, all of a sudden,
- 5:54Speaker 1: you've got a couple of days off and then you're
- 5:55Speaker 1: back into five shows or whatever. Because we've got other
- 5:58Speaker 1: jobs and everything as well and businesses, we try to
- 6:02Speaker 1: keep it to like, you know, one or two shows
- 6:03Speaker 1: a week just so we can really maximize those shows
- 6:07Speaker 1: with you know, us being a match bit as possible
- 6:11Speaker 1: and and not kind of wearing ourselves out, so to speak,
- 6:15Speaker 1: so that you know, the people get the best the
- 6:17Speaker 1: best bang for their buck so to speak, if you
- 6:19Speaker 1: if you will, and you know, we like to have
- 6:23Speaker 1: that time as as as a band as you know,
- 6:27Speaker 1: as a group and you know, our crew and everything
- 6:29Speaker 1: to get together. It's like a good excuse to get
- 6:32Speaker 1: together and be together again and have some fun and
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, kind of hang out and have a few.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Laughs and play some music.
- 6:38Speaker 1: So yeah, it doesn't it doesn't get tiring for me,
- 6:43Speaker 1: or it doesn't get boring or anything like that. Yes,
- 6:45Speaker 1: it would be nice to go to a few more
- 6:47Speaker 1: places maybe overseas, but that's obviously a financial thing that
- 6:52Speaker 1: we just can't achieve, you know, So we just keep
- 6:56Speaker 1: it local as best as we.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Can, and yeah, you know, drive it home as beat
- 7:00Speaker 2: as we can.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Now, as you mentioned before, the vinyl Toura, as a
- 7:04Speaker 3: name suggests, is celebrating the release on vinyl for the
- 7:07Speaker 3: first time ever of sharing space and a new normal.
- 7:09Speaker 3: So did the fans react to the vinyl as well
- 7:12Speaker 3: as you thought they would?
- 7:14Speaker 1: A lot of great feedback, yeah, and a couple not
- 7:18Speaker 1: too good feedback. So it was definitely more in the
- 7:23Speaker 1: percentage of positive than negative. But the negative was more
- 7:26Speaker 1: just some of the Unfortunately, when you when you try
- 7:29Speaker 1: to you know, produce these types of organic physical products,
- 7:34Speaker 1: there can be times where some things, you know, just
- 7:38Speaker 1: don't meet the mark. You might get a bump or
- 7:40Speaker 1: you know, a song does it kind of your skips
- 7:43Speaker 1: a track or or something like that, you know, because
- 7:46Speaker 1: you're pressing and you're cunning vinyl, which is which is
- 7:48Speaker 1: pretty standard, which has gone out you know obviously over
- 7:52Speaker 1: the ages with vinyl, there's you can have some problems,
- 7:55Speaker 1: you know, so you know, we tried our best to
- 7:58Speaker 1: amend those and make sure the people obviously, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: because they've they've obviously paid up front. They finally got
- 8:05Speaker 1: there because we had a real quite a hard time
- 8:08Speaker 1: actually trying to trying to get the vinyl was first
- 8:11Speaker 1: of supposed to be done.
- 8:12Speaker 2: In the Czech Republic.
- 8:13Speaker 1: First that pin got pulled, so then everything had to
- 8:16Speaker 1: be reverted back to Melbourne, and we still wanted to
- 8:18Speaker 1: make sure that the quality was going to be there
- 8:20Speaker 1: and all the rest of it. So we had to
- 8:21Speaker 1: do testing and it just took a lot longer than
- 8:23Speaker 1: we thought. But we still had some anomalies that were
- 8:27Speaker 1: a little bit you know, funky here and there, and
- 8:31Speaker 1: but overall everyone was really really stoked, and you know,
- 8:36Speaker 1: but that's part of that process, you know, just just
- 8:38Speaker 1: trying to physically get that product to a point where
- 8:41Speaker 1: it's one hundred percent. You know, not all of them
- 8:42Speaker 1: are going to kind of kind of breach the mark.
- 8:46Speaker 1: But yes, the majority did pretty much ninety percent, you know, did,
- 8:50Speaker 1: so that's good.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Is there any left of people still want to get
- 8:52Speaker 4: their hands on or the sell out?
- 8:56Speaker 2: Look, I only think there's a few left.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Yeah, there's not there's not many, so, you know, don't
- 9:00Speaker 1: know if we'll ever press in you again, so we're
- 9:04Speaker 1: not in this format anyway. If we go to press
- 9:06Speaker 1: some more, it might be more in a different you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: because this time we really you know, it was one
- 9:11Speaker 1: hundred and eighty grams. It was you know, the artworkers
- 9:16Speaker 1: on the albums, you know, we made sure there was kind.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Of color and variety, which was cool.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But we might just go back to maybe a typical
- 9:25Speaker 1: black and and that type of thing next time.
- 9:30Speaker 2: But there's only yeah, I don't think there's.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Many left, you know, at the at the at this point,
- 9:35Speaker 1: so yeah, you definitely want to kind of jump in.
- 9:38Speaker 1: We'll be selling them on the on the run of
- 9:40Speaker 1: the shows, on the on the vinyl tour, so you
- 9:42Speaker 1: know if you're there and you want to pick one
- 9:44Speaker 1: up at the show, that they'll be there for sure.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Speaking of that too, a bro like, I know Sydney
- 9:48Speaker 3: sold out, but there's still a few tickets left for
- 9:50Speaker 3: the other shows. So where do people go to get themselves?
- 9:54Speaker 4: Check it?
- 9:56Speaker 1: Definitely go onto cog dot com dot au so our
- 9:59Speaker 1: webs all right, and like sign up to the newsletter.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That's super important. Put your email in there because we
- 10:06Speaker 1: communicate through.
- 10:07Speaker 2: There as well.
- 10:08Speaker 1: But we've got all the links on the site, the homepage.
- 10:11Speaker 1: As soon as you hit the homepage, you'll see a
- 10:14Speaker 1: link to oz ticks. You know, you can go to
- 10:17Speaker 1: our Instagram. We've got a link tree in there. We've
- 10:20Speaker 1: got links. We're always throwing the links in so it's
- 10:22Speaker 1: not not too hard to find. But yeah, OZ kicks
- 10:25Speaker 1: And then you put cog in and that would that
- 10:27Speaker 1: should bring up the vinyl tour.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Now, I'm not going to ask you if you've got
- 10:32Speaker 3: any new material coming out, because I always get the
- 10:34Speaker 3: same stand answer from you. But what I ask is
- 10:37Speaker 3: will you be playing in these songs at these shows?
- 10:39Speaker 2: No?
- 10:41Speaker 4: Pretty well too. I'm gad I didn't ask.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Before we even started a new thing up where we
- 10:49Speaker 3: go through your old photos and we pick a couple
- 10:52Speaker 3: out and we ask you to sort of give us
- 10:54Speaker 3: a bit of an explanation about them.
- 10:55Speaker 4: So, okay, I found this one from your kid, what like.
- 10:59Speaker 1: A yeah, like I was saying, ratting a bread tin? Yeah, okay,
- 11:03Speaker 1: so that so you want an explanation for that on,
- 11:07Speaker 1: let me just get my put my goggles on real quick. Yes,
- 11:12Speaker 1: like a rat in a bread tin.
- 11:14Speaker 2: So that was done.
- 11:16Speaker 1: By my drum tech Roger and he surprised me. So
- 11:21Speaker 1: I walked out and you know, maybe it might have
- 11:24Speaker 1: been I don't know why he chose that phrase, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: we I think it was going around in the you know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: the cog camp like a ratt in a bread tin
- 11:34Speaker 1: for some reason.
- 11:34Speaker 2: We were saying that credit quite a.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Bit, and he put it on my drums and I
- 11:38Speaker 1: walked out there to play the show, and that was
- 11:41Speaker 1: that was on there.
- 11:42Speaker 2: But he got the idea.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Because in the film clip run, when we did the
- 11:46Speaker 1: film clip run and a response to the three imbeciles
- 11:51Speaker 1: that were kind of politically putting together the campaign during
- 11:57Speaker 1: nine to eleven, I wrote Bush, Howard and Blair fuck
- 12:02Speaker 1: off on my drums back in the day, so he
- 12:05Speaker 1: kind of copied it, but it wasn't It's not as
- 12:07Speaker 1: good as the one I originally did. That was, for sure,
- 12:10Speaker 1: but still right intention good intention there from from Roger,
- 12:14Speaker 1: but more.
- 12:15Speaker 4: For you, mate.
- 12:15Speaker 3: But I know you're strapped at crime, so I won't
- 12:17Speaker 3: worry about showing you this time, but on the next
- 12:19Speaker 3: one I'll get you around.
- 12:20Speaker 4: On the next next run round.
- 12:22Speaker 2: All right, sure, thanks for your time, Lucia.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Is always a pleasure speak with you, my friends. But
- 12:26Speaker 3: Tore does kick off, Chris, I was actually gonna when
- 12:30Speaker 3: I was doing the research, I was going to say,
- 12:31Speaker 3: why the fuck day Queens Flann Show, And then I
- 12:33Speaker 3: realized that you've already been here, so I'll like to
- 12:35Speaker 3: catch you next.
- 12:36Speaker 2: That's that's, that's right.
- 12:37Speaker 1: You know, you never know there might be a sneaky
- 12:39Speaker 1: one that might pop in here and there, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 1: so we're always kind of waiting for something to pop up,
- 12:45Speaker 1: if it's if it makes if it makes sense, so
- 12:47Speaker 1: you never know.
- 12:48Speaker 4: If you brother, and you take care, we'll catch up
- 12:50Speaker 4: with you surely.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Thanks mate, good to see you. Take care
