• 0:52
  Speaker 4: on Let's Talk.
• 0:54
Speaker 2: Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
• 0:55
Speaker 1: Missus Carley with Let's Talk, and I have in the
• 0:58
Speaker 1: building today. I got my co host Hollis Lewis and
• 1:01
Speaker 1: the Queen, Miss Lisodi.
• 1:03
  Speaker 3: Hello.
• 1:04
Speaker 1: So it's been an interesting it's been an interesting kind
• 1:09
Speaker 1: of a week. I guess even in in into the
• 1:12
  Speaker 1: whole sports.
• 1:15
Speaker 3: I thought you were going to say, because I wasn't
• 1:17
  Speaker 3: here last week.
• 1:18
Speaker 2: No no, we did. We didn't miss you. Now, yes
• 1:22
  Speaker 2: we did.
• 1:24
Speaker 3: Go ahead, go ahead, but.
• 1:27
Speaker 1: Our hometown colleges, our major colleges. I'm going to make
• 1:35
Speaker 1: the case, Hollis that where where where are we heading?
• 1:42
  Speaker 5: Do you?
• 1:44
Speaker 1: Where do you think our future is going to be
• 1:46
Speaker 1: with one or both of them, whichever one if you
• 1:49
Speaker 1: want to come from about Marshall, I think Marshall.
• 1:53
Speaker 2: I think they're going to get it together.
• 1:55
Speaker 1: They played they went to uh Louisiana yet l U
• 2:02
Speaker 1: l L and they played them tough. It was a
• 2:05
Speaker 1: double overtime game that kind of you know, things just
• 2:07
Speaker 1: fell apart. I think they just ran out of gas.
• 2:09
Speaker 1: It was actually a phenomenal game. So I think they're
• 2:12
Speaker 1: gonna be alright once they really get into the rhythm
• 2:15
Speaker 1: and get into a conference play, yeah, which they already
• 2:18
Speaker 1: are in. But I really think they'll be all right again.
• 2:21
Speaker 1: They probably won't win the conference this year, but I
• 2:23
Speaker 1: think they'll end up having a winning record at least
• 2:25
  Speaker 1: in conference.
• 2:26
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 2:27
Speaker 1: WVU, on the other hand, it's just and I tell
• 2:31
Speaker 1: people this all the time, regardless of who they're playing,
• 2:34
Speaker 1: that Big twelve is just number one is just uneventful.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: It's just not something that you get up for. It's
• 2:44
Speaker 1: one of them things where I think more than strategy,
• 2:48
Speaker 1: more than even players sometimes I think, you know, Rich Roder,
• 2:52
Speaker 1: whoever is the coaster, their job is to manage the emotions.
• 2:56
Speaker 1: How do we get up to play? Who do we play?
• 3:01
  Speaker 2: Utah?
• 3:01
  Speaker 3: Utah? Utah? Yeah?
• 3:03
  Speaker 2: Wow? Great?
• 3:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean no, but that's not a slight to Utah.
• 3:08
Speaker 1: But they just don't have a history. It's Virginia Tech. Yeah,
• 3:12
Speaker 1: and then next week you gotta go to you got
• 3:14
Speaker 1: to go to b YU. So it's just like these
• 3:17
Speaker 1: teams just aren't. It's connectivity as far as historical reference.
• 3:22
Speaker 1: And and you know what, and Hollis, I'm glad you
• 3:25
Speaker 1: said that because and I'll just jump to let's so
• 3:30
Speaker 1: let's just say, going back to my days in Minnesota.
• 3:33
Speaker 1: The thing that you knew you were going to play
• 3:36
Speaker 1: the Packers. You know what I'm saying, Like you knew,
• 3:39
  Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
• 3:40
Speaker 2: I'm just saying, you knew.
• 3:44
Speaker 1: You're gonna you're gonna play the Packers, You're gonna play
• 3:47
  Speaker 1: the Bears.
• 3:48
Speaker 2: You knew who you were gonna play.
• 3:50
Speaker 1: And you and when you got on the field, whether
• 3:53
Speaker 1: it be home or away, there was excitement of that
• 3:58
Speaker 1: being a rivalry when you don't have that connection. To
• 4:02
Speaker 1: be honest, I don't really know. It's just difficult. We
• 4:06
Speaker 1: seen WVU this year when they had that emotion when
• 4:09
Speaker 1: they're playing Pitt. We've seen what can happen when that
• 4:12
Speaker 1: emotions matches that talent and that acumen that they have
• 4:15
Speaker 1: on the field. But outside of that, these games are
• 4:18
Speaker 1: just emotionalless. The fans aren't necessarily I mean, as a
• 4:22
Speaker 1: WU fan, of course you're excited to see WVU play,
• 4:26
Speaker 1: but far as you're not excited to see BYU, you're
• 4:28
Speaker 1: not excited to see Utah, you're not excited to see
• 4:31
  Speaker 1: Ohio University.
• 4:32
Speaker 2: It changes your hotel game.
• 4:36
Speaker 3: I'm with you definitely on that part. It's way easier
• 4:39
Speaker 3: to get up for a rival like Pitt than it
• 4:41
Speaker 3: is the you know, when Utah rolls into town. But
• 4:44
Speaker 3: in all fairness to the team, earlier in the week,
• 4:47
Speaker 3: and I was telling you this Hollis before we came
• 4:49
Speaker 3: on that rich Rod had said in a press conference
• 4:52
Speaker 3: he had like eight offensive players questionable and he knew
• 4:55
Speaker 3: his starting quarterback Nico Marcio was out. He has a
• 4:59
Speaker 3: foot issue. He's in Colorado getting an evaluation, and who
• 5:03
Speaker 3: knows when he'll be back. So basically, you have already
• 5:06
Speaker 3: these guys that are questionable were already inexperienced, true, and
• 5:09
Speaker 3: you're replacing inexperienced guys with more inexperienced and it's just
• 5:16
  Speaker 3: a you know, it's a terrible kind of a thing
• 5:20
Speaker 3: they're going through up there right now. With or without
• 5:22
Speaker 3: the rivalry. I don't even know if that would have
• 5:24
Speaker 3: been pitt even. I don't know if they had enough
• 5:27
Speaker 3: players on that field that were experienced enough to lead
• 5:30
Speaker 3: them to a victory like they did that week.
• 5:32
Speaker 1: Okay, so let me ask the two of you all.
• 5:36
Speaker 1: Do you think that the fan base somebody may not
• 5:40
Speaker 1: have known that until you said it, right and reason?
• 5:45
Speaker 2: All right? Will the fan base be patient enough? Is that?
• 5:51
Speaker 1: Is that enough for an excuse to say, okay, we'll
• 5:54
Speaker 1: give you two or three more games to get some
• 5:58
Speaker 1: guys back. Are the WANs that patient?
• 6:01
Speaker 2: I mean, you gotta be patient?
• 6:03
  Speaker 1: I mean, come on, I mean, I know you're player,
• 6:05
  Speaker 1: I know you're in the fandom. I get it, you're
• 6:08
Speaker 1: a fan of the team. You want to see your
• 6:10
Speaker 1: team do well. But I mean, when you got eighty
• 6:12
Speaker 1: plus players a whole new coaching staff. And like I said,
• 6:14
Speaker 1: you're playing in the Big twelve, you never know what's
• 6:16
Speaker 1: what you gotta give rich Rodd two three years. You
• 6:21
  Speaker 1: have to be I don't I don't think you cannot
• 6:23
Speaker 1: not be patient. You have to be patient.
• 6:25
Speaker 3: I think I totally agree with that statement as well.
• 6:27
Speaker 3: But I think I think the issue with rich Rod
• 6:29
Speaker 3: he was already a controversial hire the way he left
• 6:33
Speaker 3: West Virginia years ago to go to Michigan. Those diehard
• 6:36
Speaker 3: fans still have a bad, bad taste in they're a
• 6:38
Speaker 3: bad you know, thought in their mind and taste in
• 6:40
Speaker 3: their mouth about the way he left, you know. And
• 6:43
Speaker 3: and there was already this divide in you know, the fans,
• 6:46
Speaker 3: the people that wanted him back and the people that didn't.
• 6:49
Speaker 3: It wasn't lukewarm. You either really wanted him back or
• 6:52
Speaker 3: you didn't want him back at all. And so right now,
• 6:55
  Speaker 3: I mean fair or not? I mean I don't think
• 6:57
Speaker 3: it's fair. But you know there's already talk about you know,
• 7:00
Speaker 3: if he's not in the hot seat, he sure is
• 7:02
Speaker 3: walking toward it. You know what.
• 7:03
Speaker 2: But I guess to that.
• 7:04
Speaker 1: Point, which is fair from the fans, And well, I'll
• 7:07
Speaker 1: say to the fans.
• 7:08
Speaker 2: Who else was gonna take this job?
• 7:10
Speaker 1: Amen, like like in also right, the person outside of
• 7:14
Speaker 1: rich Rod, outside of maybe a WVU alump that was
• 7:18
Speaker 1: gonna take this job, was gonna for the sole purpose
• 7:21
Speaker 1: to take the job, build it up, win the conference,
• 7:24
Speaker 1: and go get paid at another spot. Rich Rod is
• 7:26
Speaker 1: the only I ain't gonna say, legit higher, but he's
• 7:29
Speaker 1: the only name quote unquote higher. I'm not yeah, it's
• 7:32
Speaker 1: gonna take this job. And probably he ain't going. This
• 7:35
Speaker 1: is rich Rod's probably last stop, right, He's committed to
• 7:38
Speaker 1: building this up. So I say from that, you have
• 7:41
Speaker 1: to give him some time. And I and that's a
• 7:43
  Speaker 1: great that's a great point.
• 7:46
  Speaker 2: And I'll add.
• 7:47
Speaker 1: To it to the fact that I'm not sure anybody
• 7:52
Speaker 1: was really overly interested in taking that job because they
• 7:55
  Speaker 1: knew it.
• 7:56
Speaker 2: May take a while.
• 7:58
Speaker 1: If you give rich Rod the time and if you're patient, okay,
• 8:05
  Speaker 1: I think there's a turnaround.
• 8:06
  Speaker 2: But here's here's here's what bothers me, or here's my
• 8:10
  Speaker 2: question or concern.
• 8:13
  Speaker 3: Every time.
• 8:14
Speaker 1: Let's say, Hollisher, you know I bring you in from anywhere.
• 8:18
Speaker 1: You know obviously you're gonna have been playing somewhere. I'm
• 8:21
  Speaker 1: bringing you in.
• 8:22
Speaker 2: You come in, I start you, and you place. You
• 8:26
Speaker 2: just play? Well, how am I keeping? You see? Because
• 8:32
Speaker 2: the problem with rebuilding.
• 8:34
  Speaker 3: It's, you.
• 8:39
Speaker 2: Know, you still have to keep.
• 8:43
Speaker 1: The players who are shining, and the players that are
• 8:45
Speaker 1: shining aren't. Are they loyal enough to wu to say
• 8:50
Speaker 1: I don't care, I'm gonna stay here all the way
• 8:53
  Speaker 1: through my tenure.
• 8:54
Speaker 2: Probably, I mean probably not.
• 8:55
Speaker 1: But again, I think that's another problem that's perpetuated because
• 8:59
Speaker 1: I mean not only just you know the state of
• 9:01
  Speaker 1: college athletics, but I think that's a problem because we're
• 9:04
  Speaker 1: not in the A c C. I really think until
• 9:07
  Speaker 1: we get into a c C, this is w VU
• 9:11
Speaker 1: football and people don't have to get used. There's gonna
• 9:12
Speaker 1: be some good years, it's gonna be some bad years.
• 9:14
Speaker 1: It's gonna just be I think across the board is
• 9:17
Speaker 1: gonna be mediocre. We have to get into the ACC
• 9:19
Speaker 1: because to your point, if I'm a player, and if
• 9:22
Speaker 1: I'm you know, doing my thing, and if i'm you know,
• 9:25
Speaker 1: all conference, all American and all that stuff, why would
• 9:28
  Speaker 1: I play. I'm gonna go to the A c C.
• 9:31
Speaker 1: I want to go to the to the SEC. You know,
• 9:34
Speaker 1: this is not an attractive conference. From the standpoint the
• 9:38
Speaker 1: wv U, we have to get to the ACC. And
• 9:40
Speaker 1: until we get into the ACC, I think we're gonna
• 9:42
  Speaker 1: just have.
• 9:42
Speaker 3: These potential Do you think that's a reality? Do you
• 9:44
Speaker 3: think that there's a chance at any time? I mean,
• 9:46
Speaker 3: didn't they try that in the past The dissolved and
• 9:50
  Speaker 3: they couldn't.
• 9:50
Speaker 1: Get any But I think, you know, I think it could.
• 9:53
Speaker 1: Let me just say this, I don't know far as
• 9:56
Speaker 1: like you know, prognice. I can't even say that word
• 9:59
Speaker 1: truck trying to figure out the future. But what I
• 10:01
Speaker 1: will say is that our athletic director and our president
• 10:04
Speaker 1: and our coaches, they have to be vibal for They
• 10:06
Speaker 1: got to be thinking about it.
• 10:07
Speaker 2: How do we do this?
• 10:08
Speaker 1: Somebody's got to be strategically planning for the next couple
• 10:11
Speaker 1: of years and say, how do we get into the ACC?
• 10:13
Speaker 1: Because I think that's going to just again just the
• 10:17
Speaker 1: energy around w It's going to get like it was
• 10:19
Speaker 1: big in the Big East. You know Big East years
• 10:22
Speaker 1: were awesome. Yea, every every every week in conference place. Maryland,
• 10:27
Speaker 1: it's pitt it's v Tech, it's North Carolina. You had Miami,
• 10:30
Speaker 1: you had those teams that you just knew in those
• 10:32
Speaker 1: games that you had to watch.
• 10:34
Speaker 2: Are you saying? Okay? And I and I think what
• 10:36
Speaker 2: you're saying is some of the teams that were playing.
• 10:39
  Speaker 1: Or I shouldn't say we because I'm not a w view,
• 10:41
Speaker 1: but the West Virginia's playing, we don't know about who
• 10:47
Speaker 1: they are, not necessarily who they are, but they're not
• 10:52
Speaker 1: They're not anybody that we really want to beat or
• 10:55
  Speaker 1: want that.
• 10:56
  Speaker 2: We think.
• 10:57
Speaker 3: It's travel too, don't you. I mean they yeah, get
• 11:01
Speaker 3: from point b is ridiculous.
• 11:02
Speaker 1: I mean, like you said, every week weekend we just
• 11:05
Speaker 1: play Utah got beat really bad. Now you gotta fly
• 11:09
Speaker 1: all the way to Utah. Yeah, but now you gotta
• 11:13
Speaker 1: fly all the way to b yu. And the thing
• 11:15
Speaker 1: about it is if you're in Morgantown, that means you're
• 11:19
Speaker 1: driving forty five minutes an hour to Pittsburgh to get
• 11:22
Speaker 1: on the get on the plane. So it's travel on
• 11:24
Speaker 1: type of travel, you know, going halfway across the country.
• 11:27
Speaker 1: These ain't like road games where you're just going to
• 11:28
Speaker 1: take you can take the bus and and different, and
• 11:32
Speaker 1: you don't you're not supposed to quote lose to Utah,
• 11:35
  Speaker 1: not because Utah. No, I'm not saying I don't. I
• 11:41
Speaker 1: don't mean because they're not that, but because in my
• 11:45
Speaker 1: head the way I see this, I'm thinking if I'm
• 11:47
  Speaker 1: a WVU fan, and I don't necessarily really I'm not
• 11:50
Speaker 1: paying attention to Utah who they play, but all of
• 11:53
Speaker 1: a sudden, we got them on our.
• 11:54
Speaker 2: Schedule right when you're in conference.
• 11:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, but I'm saying, so now we're playing them, I
• 11:59
Speaker 1: don't think we're supposed to lose to them.
• 12:02
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. You know what I'm saying.
• 12:03
Speaker 1: I don't know if my thoughts of a WVU football
• 12:08
Speaker 1: fans they I think that they have always had a
• 12:14
Speaker 1: higher expectation, whether or not the team could meet it
• 12:17
Speaker 1: or not, they've always had a higher expectation.
• 12:21
Speaker 2: And the whole Penn State.
• 12:23
Speaker 1: Games all those kind of things, they believed back in
• 12:26
Speaker 1: the day that they should win those games. And no,
• 12:29
Speaker 1: and again me just being me, not paying any attention
• 12:33
Speaker 1: to Utah, thinking that they would lose to Utah, I
• 12:37
Speaker 1: would say, no, they wouldn't do that.
• 12:38
Speaker 2: They wouldn't lose to them. That should be a game
• 12:41
Speaker 2: that they should win.
• 12:43
Speaker 3: But all I know is we're they are zeroing to
• 12:46
Speaker 3: in Big Twelve play, and these two games they have
• 12:49
Speaker 3: not even been in They have not for a second
• 12:52
Speaker 3: been part of the game. And that's the scary part
• 12:54
Speaker 3: because even though the Big twelve is not a big
• 12:57
Speaker 3: a good fit for WVU in my opinion like yours,
• 13:00
  Speaker 3: but it's a tough, tough conference. I mean, it's there's
• 13:04
Speaker 3: no Kekewalks in it, and I just don't know. Unless
• 13:07
Speaker 3: this team gets healthier as the year goes on, it's
• 13:11
Speaker 3: gonna be tough for them to win some games.
• 13:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, And just looking at that, I mean because we
• 13:15
Speaker 1: talk a lot, you know, in IL, we talk a
• 13:18
Speaker 1: lot about transfer portals, but just looking at college football overall,
• 13:22
Speaker 1: outside of WVU, there's been a lot of great parody,
• 13:25
Speaker 1: just you know, looking at the scores, looking at who's winning,
• 13:28
Speaker 1: looking who's losing. So I think that, you know, if
• 13:33
Speaker 1: we can survive this year without getting too banged up,
• 13:36
Speaker 1: keep some of that core pieces and then get some
• 13:38
Speaker 1: other transfers coming in, I think WU has a shot
• 13:41
Speaker 1: to turn it around.
• 13:42
Speaker 2: But it's not gonna be this year. Are you are?
• 13:44
Speaker 1: You can you keep the best player, let's say the
• 13:48
Speaker 1: top eight. I think you'll keep some I mean, like
• 13:52
Speaker 1: I said, you'll keep some guys. Some guys are gonna go,
• 13:55
Speaker 1: some guys are gonna stay, but you have to Again,
• 13:59
Speaker 1: it's one of them situations where you have to recruit
• 14:02
Speaker 1: them guys. You got to be almost recruiting them now.
• 14:04
Speaker 1: And these are guys within your locker room. You got
• 14:06
Speaker 1: to be recruiting them, guys, your core pieces to figure
• 14:08
Speaker 1: out who that core is, like you said, Lisa said,
• 14:11
Speaker 1: throughout this, you know this, next, you know, five or
• 14:13
Speaker 1: six ball games, and then you got to be looking
• 14:15
Speaker 1: out to who possibly can get in the next couple
• 14:18
  Speaker 1: of months.
• 14:19
Speaker 3: And I found this interesting and maybe Matt can help
• 14:23
Speaker 3: me out with this one and our producer. But there
• 14:26
Speaker 3: was a press conference earlier. This maybe was this week
• 14:28
Speaker 3: or last week. Might have been last week or the
• 14:31
Speaker 3: week before. It's what I meant, not this week. It's Monday,
• 14:33
Speaker 3: but anyway, it was about his recruiting tactics. He wants
• 14:38
Speaker 3: to focus on high school players. Somewhere I read that,
• 14:43
Speaker 3: and that he wants to develop those players so that
• 14:47
Speaker 3: they become, you know, a part of WU lore, like
• 14:51
Speaker 3: that would be their first and last stop. I'm not
• 14:54
Speaker 3: sure if that's a good strategy in his mind, he
• 14:56
Speaker 3: feels like, you know, it's the way that not total
• 15:00
Speaker 3: high school kids, but he wants to focus on them.
• 15:03
  Speaker 1: I actually think that's not a bad idea. Again, it's
• 15:05
Speaker 1: one of them situations in which does he will he
• 15:09
Speaker 1: have the time to do that. I really don't think
• 15:12
Speaker 1: it's a bad idea because if you can get you
• 15:14
Speaker 1: twenty thirty high school guys that are legit dudes, three four,
• 15:18
Speaker 1: five star guys, and you can develop them over two, three,
• 15:22
Speaker 1: maybe four year period, that sets us up in the
• 15:25
Speaker 1: future to be pretty good.
• 15:26
Speaker 2: So I think, and again, and you also have to
• 15:29
Speaker 2: look at it from.
• 15:29
Speaker 1: The financial standpoint, because to your point, we're not Georgia,
• 15:32
Speaker 1: We're not Alabama. We're not going to have the resources
• 15:35
Speaker 1: to cut five and you know, six and seven figure
• 15:39
Speaker 1: deals just throughout our roster. So high school because from
• 15:42
Speaker 1: a financial standpoint, maybe the way to go and.
• 15:45
Speaker 3: That philosophy ahead the court that you're talking about.
• 15:48
Speaker 6: What he was saying there was because they had such
• 15:50
Speaker 6: a late start on recruitment.
• 15:52
Speaker 3: Okay, they didn't get a chance to really get a
• 15:53
Speaker 3: lot of high school so he wants to start focusing.
• 15:56
Speaker 6: He said, next year we'll be when they'll have more
• 15:58
Speaker 6: high school players in hopefully.
• 16:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, but now will they thank you.
• 16:04
Speaker 1: Will he be able to entice them to come to
• 16:08
  Speaker 1: WU if they don't, let's say they don't have a
• 16:11
  Speaker 1: great season.
• 16:12
Speaker 2: Can he entice them?
• 16:13
Speaker 1: Is he's gonna have to entice them with the N
• 16:15
Speaker 1: I L Or can he entice them with the school
• 16:18
  Speaker 1: and the.
• 16:19
Speaker 3: Maybe with ties like maybe focused on players that their
• 16:22
Speaker 3: their families have ties to the school. That might be
• 16:24
Speaker 3: you know, a route that might work for him.
• 16:27
  Speaker 2: See.
• 16:27
Speaker 3: Money definitely always works. It just depends on how much
• 16:30
Speaker 3: he has of it.
• 16:31
Speaker 1: See, and that's what See, that's what that's what scares
• 16:33
Speaker 1: me about Marshall and WVU in the whole recruiting process
• 16:38
Speaker 1: and or the getting other players that are that are
• 16:42
Speaker 1: playing now. So you're not getting high schools because high
• 16:46
Speaker 1: school recruiting is a challenge now because you don't have
• 16:49
Speaker 1: time to wait on that guy to develop.
• 16:54
Speaker 3: But if you but that tells me he's committed, Like
• 16:57
Speaker 3: he's not going anywhere. If he's thinking about reading high
• 17:00
Speaker 3: school kids like you know, he's not like trying to
• 17:02
Speaker 3: get portal kids and JUCO kids. He wants to develop,
• 17:06
Speaker 3: And that tells me, you know, he's like you said, Hollis,
• 17:09
Speaker 3: he's there for the long haul. He's not going to
• 17:11
Speaker 3: I think he's for the long haul. But if the
• 17:13
Speaker 3: fans will keep him for the fan base.
• 17:16
  Speaker 2: Keep them.
• 17:17
  Speaker 1: Man, they don't got a choice. I just don't see
• 17:20
Speaker 1: that you have a choice. I mean, you not to
• 17:22
Speaker 1: say they aren't good coaches out there, and I'm sure
• 17:25
Speaker 1: there are people come in and make some things happen.
• 17:28
Speaker 1: But for the long haul, if you're looking for a
• 17:30
Speaker 1: guy to be here the next to five ten years,
• 17:32
Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know who else would. He wants
• 17:35
Speaker 1: to retire here. He wants to be hugging, he wants
• 17:37
Speaker 1: to be kneeling, he wants to This is the final stop.
• 17:40
  Speaker 2: This is it.
• 17:40
Speaker 1: So he's in a position where he's back against the wall.
• 17:43
Speaker 1: He has to make this work. This is the legacy.
• 17:45
Speaker 3: And do you think that's why Marshall wanted Tony Gibson
• 17:48
Speaker 3: is because of those I think. I mean, that's the
• 17:51
Speaker 3: only thing that we have is you know, as far
• 17:53
Speaker 3: as we don't have the money to pay coaches like
• 17:55
Speaker 3: other schools, you want somebody that has that might loyalty.
• 17:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, who might be stuck on the loyalty and the
• 18:03
Speaker 1: desire to change, to to change the image of the
• 18:06
Speaker 1: team to what they want it to be over money
• 18:11
Speaker 1: because they don't necessarily quote need the money.
• 18:13
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 18:14
Speaker 1: Now, they may want it, but they don't necessarily quote
• 18:17
Speaker 1: need it. That's not their goal. Their goal is to
• 18:19
Speaker 1: define a school that they love. These are legacy dudes. Yeah,
• 18:24
Speaker 1: both of these legacy guy. They want to turn this around.
• 18:28
Speaker 1: They want to win championships. They want to have the
• 18:30
Speaker 1: lore of those universities. And I think, you know, West
• 18:33
Speaker 1: Virginia schools, that's that's what we have. And we got
• 18:36
Speaker 1: to make that work because, like I said, we're not
• 18:38
Speaker 1: gonna be able to pay you what other coaches are
• 18:39
Speaker 1: getting paid. And I would say, I would say to
• 18:42
Speaker 1: the fan base, you have to understand that. You know,
• 18:50
Speaker 1: for sure, you because the reality of this is you
• 18:54
Speaker 1: have West Virginia coaches coaching West Virginia team and.
• 18:58
Speaker 2: Trying to make them the best that they can be.
• 19:02
Speaker 1: Every kid on that team wants they want that kid
• 19:07
Speaker 1: to be successful some form of fashion, academically, athletically, both
• 19:12
Speaker 1: however they can make them successful.
• 19:14
Speaker 3: Sure, well, they're both two and three. Both teams are
• 19:17
Speaker 3: two and three, So I don't know how that bodes.
• 19:19
  Speaker 3: I mean it is, I mean, I know it's both
• 19:21
Speaker 3: their first years in the in the positions that they're
• 19:23
Speaker 3: you know, each respectively in. But like you said, most
• 19:26
Speaker 3: fan base, the fan base doesn't understand the logistics of
• 19:30
Speaker 3: what we're talking about. The layman, the layman, you know,
• 19:33
Speaker 3: just a normal day, front of the day fan.
• 19:36
Speaker 2: I think the diehard fan doesn't get it.
• 19:41
Speaker 3: I need to get it.
• 19:42
Speaker 2: You would like to think.
• 19:43
Speaker 1: That the diehard would would get it because they understand
• 19:47
Speaker 1: the whole structure and this whole because this was a
• 19:50
Speaker 1: big turnover. I mean, you know what I'm saying, This
• 19:53
Speaker 1: was a huge turnover for both of these coaches and
• 19:56
Speaker 1: for both of these teams.
• 19:57
Speaker 3: They're starting over every basically everywhere.
• 20:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
• 20:01
Speaker 1: I think the WV you die fair, I think they
• 20:04
Speaker 1: have to get it, man, because we can say the
• 20:06
Speaker 1: opposite for Marshall, because Marshall's had recent success, right they
• 20:09
Speaker 1: won the conference, They've they've kind of always been in
• 20:12
Speaker 1: the groove under the former head coaches, huffing his previous coach,
• 20:17
Speaker 1: so I think they could probably to that point. And
• 20:20
Speaker 1: you have been a little bit impatient because of that.
• 20:22
Speaker 1: But I mean, you may not, like Rich Rodin, may
• 20:25
Speaker 1: be emotional because you don't like kind of previously what.
• 20:28
Speaker 2: Happened, but you ain't got no choice. This is what
• 20:31
  Speaker 2: it is.
• 20:34
  Speaker 3: I'll be shocked. I don't think. I mean, what do
• 20:36
Speaker 3: you guys think. I don't think they're going bowling this year?
• 20:39
Speaker 2: I mean they hand Bowl games. Yeah, so you don't
• 20:42
Speaker 2: think they won six games.
• 20:43
  Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know, and.
• 20:46
Speaker 2: I know that you can get I mean.
• 20:48
Speaker 3: I'm telling you, I really feel like if you know
• 20:52
Speaker 3: some of these players are out indefinitely and you've got
• 20:55
Speaker 3: these guys that are even more, like I said, inexperience, I.
• 20:58
Speaker 1: Don't even wasn't even a thought to even ask that question.
• 21:04
  Speaker 2: I don't, I don't.
• 21:05
  Speaker 1: I just I just don't see that, Like I just
• 21:08
Speaker 1: from from from my view of where and both teams
• 21:14
Speaker 1: where both teams are like, I don't see, I don't see.
• 21:19
  Speaker 2: I don't I'm not thinking bowl games.
• 21:21
Speaker 1: I think I'm thinking, can can you get a winning streak?
• 21:25
Speaker 3: Like can you well, I mean that's what I mean.
• 21:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I mean before before bowl, before bowls.
• 21:34
Speaker 3: You have to win six games to be Bowl eligible, right,
• 21:37
Speaker 3: and you can have a losing season, yes, some of
• 21:40
  Speaker 3: the games.
• 21:41
Speaker 1: It's just the bowl games just don't have the luster.
• 21:43
Speaker 1: So it's like, even if you like the thing is like,
• 21:46
Speaker 1: do you even accept it? I mean maybe you accept
• 21:48
Speaker 1: it because you get the extra practice you get like
• 21:50
Speaker 1: basically depend on where your bowl games, you might get
• 21:52
Speaker 1: like a three four weeks extra practice. Think do you
• 21:55
Speaker 1: even accept it? But are the fans going to go?
• 21:58
  Speaker 2: Though?
• 21:59
Speaker 3: Depends on the ball, depends on the bu if it's drivable.
• 22:02
  Speaker 3: I'm I'm not.
• 22:03
Speaker 1: Sure because my memory is horrible, but I think that
• 22:06
Speaker 1: we were talking about bowl games once before, and we
• 22:09
Speaker 1: were talking about it being like a negative kind of
• 22:12
Speaker 1: a negative thing because of these.
• 22:14
Speaker 3: Teams in the past. Whenever the bowl game was the
• 22:17
Speaker 3: big you know, that was.
• 22:18
Speaker 1: That was we got bowl games where people success.
• 22:23
Speaker 2: Or maybe even under that's not really that really a
• 22:27
  Speaker 2: bowl game.
• 22:29
Speaker 1: I don't see that as a bowl game, no matter
• 22:31
Speaker 1: what name you put on it, no matter what how
• 22:35
  Speaker 1: you how.
• 22:37
Speaker 3: You Okay, Okay, So I understand, Okay, I went, I
• 22:41
Speaker 3: went down to this dark path, and you guys are
• 22:43
Speaker 3: making me pay for it. But honestly, I know it's
• 22:47
Speaker 3: going to take time. But do you ever ever, I
• 22:49
  Speaker 3: don't care who's at Marshall, who's at w w v U.
• 22:52
Speaker 3: Do you ever see these two teams ever getting a
• 22:55
Speaker 3: shot at the National Football the Collegiate Championship in the
• 22:59
Speaker 3: play off? Do you ever see them with with the
• 23:02
Speaker 3: way the system is designed within ile, with a transfer portal,
• 23:07
Speaker 3: with money, no revenue sharing.
• 23:11
  Speaker 2: I definitely see w v U. I can see them.
• 23:14
Speaker 2: I can see them.
• 23:15
Speaker 1: Because in the playoffs, I could see w Marshall be
• 23:21
Speaker 1: a lot difficult just because they're you know, they're not
• 23:24
Speaker 1: a non powerful right, But I can definitely see w
• 23:28
Speaker 1: v U. Like I said, man, you get ten players
• 23:31
Speaker 1: that can that can go that turns this around. I
• 23:35
Speaker 1: mean far as this year is concerned, it's just w
• 23:38
  Speaker 1: v has to go to to b y U. They
• 23:42
  Speaker 1: have to go to U c F. That's a winnable game.
• 23:46
Speaker 1: They home at TCU, that's gonna be tough. They have
• 23:49
Speaker 1: to go to Houston, that's gonna be tough. Colorado's coming in.
• 23:53
Speaker 1: Colorado's not great, that's a winnable game. Then you have
• 23:56
Speaker 1: to go to Arizona. That's tough. And then Texas Tech
• 24:01
Speaker 1: come to U Texas. Texas the top fifteen team, So
• 24:05
Speaker 1: it's gonna be travel.
• 24:11
Speaker 2: I mean, we're talking about four more games. I don't know.
• 24:17
  Speaker 2: I don't see. I don't see.
• 24:22
Speaker 1: Is it okay to go to a bowl game, a
• 24:24
Speaker 1: lower tier bowl game, win it or lose it? Does
• 24:28
Speaker 1: does does it matter? I mean, I mean you celebrate that,
• 24:34
  Speaker 1: celebrate okay.
• 24:35
  Speaker 3: But the thing.
• 24:37
Speaker 1: Because I don't But the thing is that as a coach,
• 24:40
  Speaker 1: and here's a here's a here's the other issue with
• 24:42
Speaker 1: that because number one, the thinking previously was that if
• 24:47
Speaker 1: we go to the bowl game, even though we may
• 24:49
Speaker 1: not be in a national championship picture, then we're gonna
• 24:51
Speaker 1: get those extra practices in, so you get two to
• 24:54
Speaker 1: maybe four weeks extra practice. Now here's the caveat with
• 24:58
Speaker 1: that now, because now players aren't they're inter the transfer
• 25:02
Speaker 1: port they're not playing in that bowl down. So if
• 25:05
Speaker 1: you know that you're going to some some lower level
• 25:07
Speaker 1: bowl game, a lot I ain't gonna say most, but
• 25:09
Speaker 1: a lot of players sort of the the trend is
• 25:12
Speaker 1: to say, hey man, I'm not playing that bowl game.
• 25:14
Speaker 1: I'm gonna enter the transfer porter portal or enter the
• 25:17
Speaker 1: league and I'm just not gonna feel full with it.
• 25:19
Speaker 1: So to your point, depending on the number of players
• 25:23
Speaker 1: that choose the leap, it may not be worth it.
• 25:25
Speaker 1: So that's also another consideration that you have to consider.
• 25:29
Speaker 1: And my thing is now, I say, get rid of
• 25:32
  Speaker 1: the boat games.
• 25:34
Speaker 2: If it's not playoffs or conference champions I would be good.
• 25:38
Speaker 2: Get rid of the bow games.
• 25:39
Speaker 1: I never would have said that or thought that, probably
• 25:42
Speaker 1: because I'm thinking that that's impossible that it would happen.
• 25:44
Speaker 2: But it does make sense.
• 25:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, because you're the players aren't playing because they're entering
• 25:49
Speaker 1: the transfer portal. So it's like I'm not gonna get
• 25:51
Speaker 1: risk getting hurt for a game that doesn't matter. I mean,
• 25:54
Speaker 1: you got some some kids, like some third and second
• 25:56
Speaker 1: string players that went to the playoffs last year. Their
• 25:59
Speaker 1: teams into the playoffs and they chose to sit out
• 26:02
Speaker 1: because they entered the transfer portal. So I'm saying get
• 26:05
Speaker 1: rid of the Bowl games.
• 26:05
Speaker 3: They do not think they would do that though, I
• 26:07
  Speaker 3: mean the money.
• 26:08
Speaker 1: Money, but it don't matter that because but I'm looking at.
• 26:11
Speaker 3: It's a sad ending to an era sad.
• 26:14
  Speaker 1: But if I'm but if I'm a company, I'm looking
• 26:16
  Speaker 1: at the r O. I dang, I'm dishing out all
• 26:19
Speaker 1: this cash for this game. What am I getting back there?
• 26:22
Speaker 3: The TV? Like a lot of people still watch Bowl games.
• 26:25
Speaker 3: We watch I mean December, when when you know, bold
• 26:27
Speaker 3: season starts. We watched bowl games all all of the
• 26:30
  Speaker 3: whole month.
• 26:30
  Speaker 2: I could say I didn't as much as I used
• 26:32
Speaker 2: to because most of it.
• 26:37
Speaker 3: Seems like Marshall would never get to do any I mean,
• 26:39
Speaker 3: they're not going to go these these smaller schools. They
• 26:42
Speaker 3: don't get to go to the National champion the playoffs,
• 26:44
Speaker 3: so why not have bowl games for them to enjoy it?
• 26:46
Speaker 2: Well? And I understand last year was.
• 26:48
Speaker 3: An anomaly with with the health leaving and taking the team.
• 26:51
Speaker 2: I think that's going to be normal.
• 26:55
Speaker 3: I meant because they won the conference championship. Otherwise that
• 26:59
Speaker 3: they would have if he hadn't a left right after
• 27:01
Speaker 3: that with the whole team and they hadn't won the
• 27:03
Speaker 3: conference championship and they just gone to a lesser bowl,
• 27:06
Speaker 3: Marshall fans would have been excited.
• 27:08
Speaker 6: What about I don't know, what about if in the
• 27:11
Speaker 6: age of n I L you go play the bowl
• 27:13
Speaker 6: game and the players win a pot of money, the players,
• 27:19
Speaker 6: if you team, you get money.
• 27:21
Speaker 2: Why not? Thing? Though?
• 27:23
Speaker 1: Here's the thing with that, though that makes sense, and
• 27:25
Speaker 1: that's probably a good idea, but you but you still
• 27:27
Speaker 1: got the transfer a portal problem because now I have
• 27:30
Speaker 1: to I have to go in December in order to
• 27:33
Speaker 1: see where I'm going so I can get signed up
• 27:34
Speaker 1: for my classes in Jauer.
• 27:36
Speaker 2: And the other thing is to Tommy think.
• 27:40
Speaker 1: To that is too, is the school is getting that
• 27:44
  Speaker 1: money right.
• 27:45
Speaker 3: You know, they're not gonna get that.
• 27:46
Speaker 1: They're gonna they're not gonna want to give that.
• 27:50
Speaker 3: But I like that. You like that idea.
• 27:52
Speaker 1: I would like that idea too, you know, and because
• 27:55
Speaker 1: at that point, really, honestly, even if even if you
• 28:01
Speaker 1: weren't getting your I on money, you're receiving money through
• 28:05
Speaker 1: winning a bowl game or even participating.
• 28:08
Speaker 2: I mean, I like the idea.
• 28:09
Speaker 1: I just think you still have a timing issue because
• 28:11
Speaker 1: the problem is that again, if I'm trying to transfer
• 28:14
Speaker 1: to another school, I have to start that process in
• 28:17
Speaker 1: December so I can be enrolled by January. It may
• 28:20
Speaker 1: take a month for me to find an home. And
• 28:21
Speaker 1: so I think they need to push that process back
• 28:24
Speaker 1: and they need to let these kids roll in February.
• 28:27
Speaker 1: You'll be alrighty not going to class for a couple weeks,
• 28:29
  Speaker 1: You've be fine.
• 28:32
Speaker 3: Yeah. See, I understand technology.
• 28:35
Speaker 2: I agree with that.
• 28:36
Speaker 1: But see, I'm thinking and I'm trying to think this
• 28:39
Speaker 1: through as a as a player who's thinking I'm gonna leave. Okay,
• 28:43
  Speaker 1: so after our last game, whether it's a it's a
• 28:46
Speaker 1: bowl game, whatever it's going to be, I'm I'm ready.
• 28:49
Speaker 1: I'm ready to jump into portal. I'm ready to try
• 28:51
Speaker 1: to commit to another place. I'm not playing anyway, right,
• 28:57
Speaker 1: I'm not gonna play in any any game after our
• 29:01
Speaker 1: last season game. If we're not quote already Bowl eligible
• 29:06
Speaker 1: or in a major bowl place or championship, I'm out.
• 29:13
  Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't.
• 29:14
Speaker 1: I guess my thing is like, if you're a starter
• 29:17
Speaker 1: and you've been starting, you've been playing the whole season,
• 29:19
Speaker 1: you got some tape, you had a pretty good year,
• 29:21
Speaker 1: and you decide, you know, I want to go to
• 29:23
Speaker 1: the next school. I just don't know what playing in
• 29:25
Speaker 1: the bowl does for you anymore. Just yeah, it just
• 29:28
Speaker 1: doesn't if you're not going to the playoffs. Yeah, I mean,
• 29:32
Speaker 1: again to your point least, I did watch some of
• 29:34
Speaker 1: the bowls and it was fun to watch like those
• 29:36
Speaker 1: third string guys to get a shot. But at the
• 29:39
Speaker 1: same time, that's not like the highest quality of football.
• 29:42
Speaker 1: And with the playoffs, what is it twelve teams? Now, Yes,
• 29:45
Speaker 1: that's all the matter, Like I'm trying to see that,
• 29:48
Speaker 1: I ain't trying to see nothing else. So I would
• 29:50
Speaker 1: actually say, if you're going to do a top twenty five,
• 29:53
Speaker 1: if we got a top twenty five, do a twenty
• 29:57
  Speaker 1: five team playoff.
• 29:58
Speaker 2: That's what we got. They ate everything else.
• 30:01
Speaker 1: And same thing for non power forward non power forwards
• 30:05
Speaker 1: have their own playoffs. I like that, you know what
• 30:07
Speaker 1: I'm saying, And they should. Now they can play up
• 30:09
Speaker 1: if they if they make it. So those teams can
• 30:11
Speaker 1: play up. You know, if you're if you're a TOASA,
• 30:14
  Speaker 1: if you're a Marshall, if you're a Boise State, you
• 30:16
Speaker 1: can play up into the Power five playoff. But you
• 30:18
Speaker 1: can also if you don't make it, you play the
• 30:19
Speaker 1: Power four non Power four playoffs. So I say, you
• 30:23
Speaker 1: have two sets of playoffs, just like you have Division two, three, whatever,
• 30:26
Speaker 1: and just play it that way. So that way we
• 30:27
Speaker 1: just eliminate and you can like first round toast he
• 30:30
  Speaker 1: does whatever bowl.
• 30:32
Speaker 2: You know, the playoff games to the playoff games.
• 30:36
Speaker 3: Yeah, so I just do it like that. It's just
• 30:39
  Speaker 3: a big, big mess, that's what I say. It's a
• 30:42
Speaker 3: big mess. And why about money games? Do we have
• 30:46
Speaker 3: time to talk about that. While we're talking about money
• 30:48
Speaker 3: and games, we'll just put it together.
• 30:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, let's take a quick break, okay, and then
• 30:52
Speaker 1: we'll come right back.

• 32:22
  Speaker 4: the conversation.
• 32:23
Speaker 2: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we're back.
• 32:25
Speaker 1: And the queen over there has got some information or
• 32:30
  Speaker 1: Christen for us.
• 32:31
Speaker 3: Now, well, well, we've talked a little bit on the
• 32:35
Speaker 3: show before about money games, and so I was kind
• 32:38
Speaker 3: of curious to see it's the time of year where
• 32:41
Speaker 3: they start to release, you know, how much money some
• 32:44
Speaker 3: of these smaller teams were paid to go and play,
• 32:47
Speaker 3: you know, as a sacrificial Lamb to the larger schools,
• 32:51
Speaker 3: and so basically I looked up what money game means
• 32:55
Speaker 3: because I know some people out there were like, what's
• 32:56
Speaker 3: a money game? Well, games where a smaller program is
• 32:59
Speaker 3: pays a significicking amount of money to play a larger
• 33:02
Speaker 3: established program. That's basically what it means, because you know,
• 33:05
Speaker 3: some people may not realize that, but basically some of
• 33:07
Speaker 3: the bigger games and what they were paid this this
• 33:10
Speaker 3: one's this was really like eye opening to me. Grambling
• 33:14
Speaker 3: State went to Ohio State lost seventy to nothing, but
• 33:17
Speaker 3: were paid one million dollars for one game. Charlotte visited Georgia,
• 33:23
Speaker 3: and so did Marshall. Okay, Charlotte was paid one point
• 33:26
Speaker 3: nine million for their game. Marshall was paid one point
• 33:29
Speaker 3: seven that's the kind of money George's plan with. Okay,
• 33:32
Speaker 3: and then of course Central Michigan was paid one point
• 33:34
Speaker 3: five to go visit ann Arborn. You know, be Michigan.
• 33:38
Speaker 3: It's a little toy for a while. But what are
• 33:41
Speaker 3: your thoughts on this? I mean, basically, the money that
• 33:44
Speaker 3: some of these schools got, that's almost their whole budget.
• 33:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to make the case that it's it's
• 33:51
Speaker 1: well above their budget possibly, and it's been it's truly
• 33:57
Speaker 1: beneficial for them. But now I think they're gonna run
• 34:03
Speaker 1: short out of that because of inn I L.
• 34:07
Speaker 2: George is not running short.
• 34:08
  Speaker 1: No, no, well.
• 34:12
  Speaker 3: Afford that.
• 34:14
Speaker 2: Not for the football program.
• 34:16
Speaker 1: Well see, I'm thinking in my thoughts, and I might
• 34:19
Speaker 1: and I might be wrong, but like my question, my
• 34:22
Speaker 1: question then is you're gonna pay Let's say you're gonna
• 34:27
Speaker 1: pay Marshall a million dollars is to come and play, right,
• 34:35
Speaker 1: and then you're gonna pay then you're in I L budget. Well,
• 34:40
Speaker 1: it's it's different now because I think those are different
• 34:45
Speaker 1: parts of money. I agree, I agree, But how much?
• 34:50
Speaker 1: How I mean how much resources? Do you think some
• 34:54
Speaker 1: of these places limitless? Absolutely less? They have all the
• 34:58
Speaker 1: money in like a small country. Alabama football has Georgia.
• 35:05
Speaker 1: They're never running out of them. At Tennessee, Alabama and USC,
• 35:08
Speaker 1: they're not running out of money. Here's the thing that
• 35:11
Speaker 1: what I think people don't realize, even like to that
• 35:14
Speaker 1: point where Marshall plays Georgia for one and they get
• 35:17
Speaker 1: paid one point seven, what we have to analyze is
• 35:20
Speaker 1: the cost of going to Georgia because you still got
• 35:22
Speaker 1: to put those guys in the hotel. You still got
• 35:24
Speaker 1: to put those guys on a plane. You still got
• 35:25
Speaker 1: to feed those guys. You got to bring those guys back.
• 35:27
Speaker 1: In addition to the human capital, which is some guys
• 35:30
  Speaker 1: can go.
• 35:30
Speaker 3: How different than the season teams though, I mean they
• 35:32
Speaker 3: could drive to Georgia.
• 35:33
Speaker 1: Couldn't They know they're not driving the probably Georgia. All
• 35:36
Speaker 1: that stuff comes out of that cost, So that one
• 35:39
Speaker 1: point seven may actually turn into seven hundred grand or
• 35:41
Speaker 1: five hundred grand once you delete the costs. Deon Sanders
• 35:44
Speaker 1: talked about this why money games aren't always what they see.
• 35:47
Speaker 1: So what I would say is that if I'm a
• 35:49
Speaker 1: program like Marshall or Ohio University or whoever, if I'm
• 35:54
Speaker 1: looking for a money game, I'm looking for something right
• 35:56
Speaker 1: close proximity. So I'm trying to play Ohio State so
• 36:00
  Speaker 1: I can drive. That's about a two hour drive. I
• 36:07
Speaker 1: hit it, hit, come back. So all that one point seven,
• 36:09
Speaker 1: whatever they're gonna pay me, I can keep as much
• 36:11
Speaker 1: as possible. I ain't trying to get on a plane
• 36:13
Speaker 1: and drive, go halfway across the country, have that expense
• 36:16
Speaker 1: and then come back when I got my revenue is this,
• 36:19
Speaker 1: but my profit is that. So I think I'm all
• 36:21
Speaker 1: for money games. I think it's a revenue sharing model.
• 36:24
Speaker 1: I think they ought to do a bunch of money
• 36:25
Speaker 1: games to help some of these the lower programs. But
• 36:29
Speaker 1: I would also I would my suggestion, would we keep
• 36:32
Speaker 1: those games in close proximity so you can keep that money.
• 36:35
Speaker 2: Coach Prewitt, when when I.
• 36:37
Speaker 3: Was scheduling, sometimes does.
• 36:40
  Speaker 2: The problem.
• 36:40
Speaker 1: I was at State. When I was at State and
• 36:43
Speaker 1: Coach Prewitt was at Marshall and we played Marshall. That
• 36:50
Speaker 1: was that was a quote money game. And I mean,
• 36:53
Speaker 1: obviously we didn't get you know, we did we didn't
• 36:56
Speaker 1: get anything like that, but the the amount that we got,
• 37:00
Speaker 1: and I don't actually remember the total amount, but it
• 37:04
Speaker 1: was enough for us to cover all the hotel expenses
• 37:11
Speaker 1: that we might have for the season the season, so
• 37:14
Speaker 1: it was it was enough for us to.
• 37:17
Speaker 2: Now any money that we raised, any money that we.
• 37:22
Speaker 1: Had budget budget wise, we didn't have to touch and
• 37:28
Speaker 1: we had to and if without that, without that game,
• 37:33
Speaker 1: we may not have been able to actually finish out
• 37:37
Speaker 1: the whole season with with all the funding with you know,
• 37:40
Speaker 1: because we were playing paying fees for the some of
• 37:42
Speaker 1: the students who were full rides. We had to pay
• 37:45
Speaker 1: that dollar. That was dollars coming out of our budget.
• 37:48
Speaker 1: And it didn't cost you anything to go to the game, right,
• 37:52
Speaker 1: it was all pretty much that game was all profit.
• 37:55
Speaker 1: But if you think like Marshall for example, so they
• 37:58
Speaker 1: go to Georgia to open them season, they get the
• 38:00
Speaker 1: one point seven and then just this past week they
• 38:02
Speaker 1: got to go all the way to Louisiana and come
• 38:04
Speaker 1: all the way back. So it's not like you're going
• 38:06
Speaker 1: down there Saturday morning and coming back Saturday night. Probably
• 38:08
Speaker 1: down there Thursday, and all that racks up. Yeah, I
• 38:11
Speaker 1: mean you're talking about those two games that travel alone.
• 38:14
Speaker 1: Not to say it's one point seven, but it's significant.
• 38:17
Speaker 1: And you got to you got you got eighty ninety
• 38:20
  Speaker 1: one hundred kids.
• 38:21
Speaker 3: The band take you take a lot, Yeah, you take
• 38:24
  Speaker 3: the whole.
• 38:24
  Speaker 1: I don't think they take the band. I'm not a
• 38:27
Speaker 1: school like Martina. They're not taking a band everywhere. You know,
• 38:30
Speaker 1: you got a hotel, cheerleaders maybe hotels, you got meals,
• 38:35
Speaker 1: yeah significant, you know, and and and you probably will
• 38:39
Speaker 1: get a practice. You'll you'll probably have to pay for
• 38:41
Speaker 1: a place to get a walk through practice.
• 38:45
  Speaker 2: I mean that's see that's what I'm saying.
• 38:47
Speaker 1: I'm saying like, if you're going to take those games,
• 38:49
Speaker 1: depending on where the game is, I would try to
• 38:52
Speaker 1: negotiate not only just that one point seven, but I
• 38:55
Speaker 1: want like travel expenses, Like.
• 38:57
Speaker 3: Maybe help me out with that.
• 38:58
  Speaker 2: Maybe maybe.
• 39:01
Speaker 1: I've never heard anybody getting detailed about it.
• 39:06
Speaker 2: Dion when he was at Jackson State, he got detailed
• 39:08
  Speaker 2: about it.
• 39:08
Speaker 1: He was like, man, we ain't really making that much
• 39:10
Speaker 1: off these money games because we got to pay for everything.
• 39:13
Speaker 1: So to me, is it I think it's well worth it.
• 39:16
Speaker 1: It just depends on the proximity to where that money
• 39:19
  Speaker 1: game is.
• 39:19
  Speaker 2: See.
• 39:19
Speaker 1: And I think I think that a lot of the
• 39:22
Speaker 1: average fan does not think about the expenses that.
• 39:28
Speaker 2: Come with with a sport, and.
• 39:32
Speaker 1: Specifically football, you know, because you you got trainers, you've
• 39:36
  Speaker 1: got equipment people.
• 39:38
Speaker 2: You know, you got to bring all this extra stuff.
• 39:41
Speaker 3: And and just I mean this is just a reality
• 39:44
Speaker 3: that these are needed, I mean necessary. Evil You've got
• 39:47
Speaker 3: to go and you've got to go get beat and
• 39:49
Speaker 3: you you walk off with your check and say thanks
• 39:51
Speaker 3: a lot, you know.
• 39:52
Speaker 1: And the and the and to add insult to injury,
• 39:56
Speaker 1: the football teams going down there taking that whooping, and
• 39:58
Speaker 1: that whatever the profit is from that check that they
• 40:02
Speaker 1: just received is dispersed among the Olympic sports.
• 40:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, great, thanks guys. So they get.
• 40:08
  Speaker 3: A little general.
• 40:11
Speaker 2: So you don't even keep one hundred percent.
• 40:13
Speaker 1: So that's what like what coach Prown was saying was like,
• 40:16
Speaker 1: this ain't this ain't everything that you think it is.
• 40:18
Speaker 1: Just taking this big. I just think it looks big.
• 40:22
Speaker 1: It looks bigger than what you start.
• 40:24
Speaker 3: They had to do it without that money. I don't
• 40:27
Speaker 3: know how they would.
• 40:27
Speaker 1: I mean, you have to, but I just my thing is,
• 40:29
Speaker 1: if you're going to do it, I would say close proximity.
• 40:33
  Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think in hold. I'm curious
• 40:36
Speaker 1: with what you think that this. I don't think there's
• 40:38
Speaker 1: a a college football program maybe with the exception of
• 40:45
Speaker 1: UC maybe that wouldn't play a money game in the
• 40:51
Speaker 1: state somewhat all of them. I mean, I mean w
• 40:55
Speaker 1: v O obviously they are the money game for some
• 40:57
Speaker 1: for some some Robert, but they didn't play Robert earlier
• 41:00
Speaker 1: in Ohio, so that you had to pay.
• 41:04
Speaker 2: They paid out. So but to your point, you got
• 41:06
Speaker 2: to like you got to just and that's an.
• 41:08
Speaker 3: Argument why you know, Marshall and WU don't play that.
• 41:11
Speaker 3: They play teams like you know, Robert Morris, and they
• 41:13
Speaker 3: play teams like Ohio University. Marshall could be a you know,
• 41:16
Speaker 3: that would be beneficial.
• 41:18
Speaker 2: Money in the state. They should play exactly.
• 41:20
  Speaker 3: That's what I'm thinking.
• 41:22
Speaker 2: I would be all for them playing.
• 41:24
  Speaker 3: I don't like it, but I mean I think it's
• 41:26
Speaker 3: it's it's a valuable game for both schools and the fans.
• 41:29
Speaker 1: I think that every person who's a football fan is
• 41:35
Speaker 1: trying to get to that game.
• 41:36
Speaker 2: I don't care who. I don't care who your team is.
• 41:39
Speaker 1: It's going to sell out in the state and you're
• 41:43
Speaker 1: going to make tons of money.
• 41:45
  Speaker 2: And I don't even care.
• 41:47
Speaker 1: We have to play that game in in Morgantown every
• 41:50
Speaker 1: year because the stadium is going to Georgia.
• 41:53
Speaker 3: Why not go to w I mean, yeah, I'm with you.
• 41:56
Speaker 3: Some of those fans that you know in Huntington are like, oh,
• 41:58
Speaker 3: we want you know, to for one, three, four, No
• 42:01
Speaker 3: until until you beat them. You have nothing to to,
• 42:05
Speaker 3: you know, try to negotiate with you. Just go to
• 42:07
Speaker 3: Morgantown and if you win maybe maybe.
• 42:10
  Speaker 1: Then yeah, yeah you can't. I don't I don't really
• 42:13
Speaker 1: think that you can, you know you can. You can
• 42:16
Speaker 1: ask them to come to Huntington. I don't see why
• 42:19
  Speaker 1: they would come.
• 42:20
Speaker 2: Now, you just played before, but it was you just
• 42:23
Speaker 2: played at Morgantown. Yes.
• 42:24
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a simple stake and it's and it's a
• 42:27
  Speaker 1: better ven.
• 42:29
Speaker 2: That should be the opener every season.
• 42:31
  Speaker 3: Exactly.
• 42:31
Speaker 6: I was at one of the last times when WVU
• 42:34
Speaker 6: came down and played at Marshall, and it was like
• 42:37
Speaker 6: forty three thousand people in the zone, which is technically
• 42:40
Speaker 6: only seats like thirty.
• 42:43
Speaker 3: It was crazy aisles, It was.
• 42:45
  Speaker 2: Standing room only.
• 42:46
Speaker 6: It was a lot of people.
• 42:47
Speaker 3: It was almost like when WU went to Ohio University.
• 42:50
Speaker 3: I mean it was basically that it was.
• 42:51
Speaker 1: It was that crowd, played a game, put other stuff,
• 42:55
Speaker 1: but everybody, every every sports fan is looking for that game. Yeah,
• 43:01
Speaker 1: I mean it's the same thing like WVU in Marshall.
• 43:04
Speaker 1: They used to come to the Civic Center and Charleston
• 43:06
  Speaker 1: and play.
• 43:06
Speaker 2: Play the game. Yeah, play y'all overthink it every time.
• 43:12
Speaker 2: Just play the game.
• 43:13
Speaker 1: They have a soccer robery, now baseball robery. Play the game.
• 43:19
Speaker 2: What is the what is what is the do any
• 43:21
Speaker 2: of you all know? Like, what is the reasoning? That
• 43:24
Speaker 2: it's not being played now.
• 43:26
Speaker 1: Well, has there been a conversation about football the thought
• 43:30
Speaker 1: that what I've always heard number one is it didn't
• 43:33
Speaker 1: make sense for WVU, and it was a situation in
• 43:36
Speaker 1: which why would you have an empty stadium with two
• 43:39
Speaker 1: D one schools in the state with only two D
• 43:41
Speaker 1: one schools where you can have two full stadiums that
• 43:44
Speaker 1: they played a different teams. So to me, it was
• 43:48
Speaker 1: always from like the WVU side, they just have more
• 43:50
Speaker 1: to lose playing the game than marsh That's what I heard.
• 43:53
Speaker 3: And I think the Marshall fans on the other side
• 43:55
Speaker 3: of the coin, they wanted the deals where they come
• 43:58
Speaker 3: to Huntington at least like once out of every three years,
• 44:02
  Speaker 3: or I can I.
• 44:03
Speaker 2: Can see that. I can see that, But I.
• 44:06
Speaker 3: Never won a game against WU. I will till you win.
• 44:09
Speaker 3: You have nothing to negotiate with. End of story. Go
• 44:12
Speaker 3: to Morgantown, get your check.
• 44:14
  Speaker 2: I get it.
• 44:16
Speaker 1: I'm one hundred percent agree with you, But I'm just
• 44:18
Speaker 1: saying I could I could see why Marshall would say, okay,
• 44:23
Speaker 1: every two years, every five years, you know, I mean,
• 44:26
Speaker 1: I could see that just as a negotiation. But I
• 44:29
Speaker 1: also think man like we're like, like we just said, man,
• 44:32
Speaker 1: we're in a day and age where rivalies are gone.
• 44:34
Speaker 1: When you are, when you're WVU and you're playing like
• 44:38
  Speaker 1: the Utah the b y u s, why nobody really
• 44:41
Speaker 1: cares about those? Yeah nobody. I mean saying we want you.
• 44:46
Speaker 1: We want WVU to win, no doubt. And then they
• 44:48
Speaker 1: may even have some good exciting teams, but there's nothing
• 44:51
Speaker 1: really for it and for the fans other than the
• 44:53
Speaker 1: ceing WV you win. I think this is just the
• 44:54
Speaker 1: opportunity because there's nothing better. You get back, put back
• 44:57
Speaker 1: on the schedule full time, you get Marshall on schedu
• 45:00
  Speaker 1: were full time.
• 45:00
Speaker 2: Even take like a Virginia Tech, get them three games,
• 45:03
  Speaker 2: so let's go.
• 45:04
Speaker 1: There's nothing There is nothing better than a rival game
• 45:07
  Speaker 1: and nothing better.
• 45:08
Speaker 3: And the Big Twelve, you know, when they joined the
• 45:10
Speaker 3: Big Twelve, it's been kind of diluted since then because
• 45:13
Speaker 3: Texas left. Who else left the Big Twelve?
• 45:16
Speaker 2: I know somebody else like Texas A and M.
• 45:18
Speaker 3: Texas A and M. You know, those were those were
• 45:21
Speaker 3: kind of exciting games because Texas is always good. Texas
• 45:24
Speaker 3: A and M's fun too, But it's not like it was.
• 45:28
Speaker 2: Well, speaking of ribvalies.
• 45:30
Speaker 1: We I think we have a budding ribbery in the
• 45:32
Speaker 1: NFL Packers versus Cowboys. Uh, you know what Michael Parson's
• 45:36
Speaker 1: going and there was a tie. So, like we talked
• 45:40
Speaker 1: about it, how do we feel about the current NFL
• 45:44
Speaker 1: system when it comes to overtime and different things of
• 45:46
  Speaker 1: that nature.
• 45:48
Speaker 3: Somebody needs to win here.
• 45:51
  Speaker 2: That's that's that's how I look at it.
• 45:53
Speaker 1: I don't want I want to be able to walk
• 45:56
Speaker 1: out of the stadium and know that I won or
• 46:00
Speaker 1: long and currently how would it how the rules? You
• 46:02
Speaker 1: correct me if I'm wrong, you get basically two overtimes
• 46:06
Speaker 1: and if nobody comes ahead, and those two overtimes and
• 46:08
Speaker 1: stem over. Yeah, correct, it's the time, so one over
• 46:10
Speaker 1: time and there's no sudden death. Back in the day,
• 46:16
Speaker 1: it used to be whoever winning coin toss first and
• 46:19
Speaker 1: whoever score first. Basically one except for a field goal.
• 46:22
Speaker 1: So if you get if you kick the field goal,
• 46:24
Speaker 1: then the other team would get an opportunity to match
• 46:26
Speaker 1: it or or get the touchdown. So I think I
• 46:29
Speaker 1: would like to say to it, Well, I'll.
• 46:32
Speaker 2: Let you say. You you said, what would be your rule?
• 46:34
  Speaker 2: Change to that?
• 46:35
Speaker 1: My rule would be I just want to go out
• 46:39
Speaker 1: or you play the game. I'm okay with if you score,
• 46:44
Speaker 1: but I don't want a field goal. If you can
• 46:47
Speaker 1: score a touchdown, if you can drive, you can take
• 46:49
Speaker 1: a drive eighty yard drive, score a touchdown, boom.
• 46:53
  Speaker 2: See.
• 46:53
Speaker 1: I say, you keep the two overtimes. Nobody wins in overtime,
• 46:57
Speaker 1: the two overtimes. Then you go to sudden death after that. Yeah,
• 47:00
  Speaker 1: that's what that's what you're saying.
• 47:02
Speaker 2: Are you just saying, just the regular game, just like
• 47:05
  Speaker 2: it's a regular quarter.
• 47:07
Speaker 1: You get to two ten minute quarters. So after the
• 47:09
Speaker 1: game is done tied up, you get one quarter. You
• 47:15
Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, two ten minute quarters. If we
• 47:18
Speaker 1: still don't have we're still tied at that point, then
• 47:20
Speaker 1: you go to a sudden that you do the foreign
• 47:21
Speaker 1: cause I would say even get rid of the kickoff.
• 47:23
Speaker 1: Forget the kickoff. Just started your twenty like, you know
• 47:26
Speaker 1: what I'm saying, So get rid of.
• 47:27
Speaker 3: The kick that much time.
• 47:28
  Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you're stopping.
• 47:29
Speaker 1: You're not starting at there, you're starting at so you
• 47:32
Speaker 1: gotta drive eighty eighty you know what I'm saying.
• 47:34
Speaker 2: So I would say just do that. That's and then
• 47:36
Speaker 2: if you went from there, you won.
• 47:38
Speaker 1: You know what I mean, I'm good with anything that
• 47:42
Speaker 1: can get you away from the tie, because you just
• 47:46
Speaker 1: you done played all day and you're gonna walk a
• 47:50
Speaker 1: stadium and say, oh, well we tied, and where does
• 47:53
Speaker 1: that fit at the end of the year.
• 47:56
Speaker 3: Well, at the end of the year that well, on
• 47:59
Speaker 3: tie games. You know how they have a point system
• 48:01
Speaker 3: when it comes to the playoffs. Tie games count as
• 48:03
Speaker 3: a half win and a half loss. Wow, it's whatever. Yeah,
• 48:09
  Speaker 3: that's what I make. A point in a half a
• 48:12
Speaker 3: point could make a difference. I mean, that's just.
• 48:19
Speaker 1: What's the argument against it? Though, because the argument against
• 48:23
Speaker 1: number one, as far as sudden death of having too
• 48:25
Speaker 1: much footballs obviously guys can get hurt. But the argument
• 48:28
Speaker 1: too is that even if I have to drive eighty
• 48:30
Speaker 1: and a sudden death really with kickers now you may
• 48:33
Speaker 1: only have to drive forty.
• 48:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I'm saying, kickers can.
• 48:37
Speaker 1: Boot it once you get it's it's like, but but
• 48:41
Speaker 1: again to your point, that's that's part of the game.
• 48:43
Speaker 1: I mean, you you play defense, you got to stop them.
• 48:45
Speaker 1: So I say, I still want the sudden death.
• 48:48
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think that's a good sense.
• 48:49
Speaker 6: Why not just do it like basketball. You give them
• 48:52
Speaker 6: the ten minutes and just let them play, and whoever's
• 48:55
Speaker 6: got more points at the end of ten minutes is
• 48:56
  Speaker 6: the winner.
• 48:57
Speaker 2: But that's the point that if you what if you
• 48:59
Speaker 2: don't what if you say tied up.
• 49:00
Speaker 3: They were tied last night.
• 49:03
Speaker 6: Period, you played the whole ten minutes and then do
• 49:05
Speaker 6: a sudden death or something like that.
• 49:07
Speaker 2: So you're saying one tenn I like it. But that's
• 49:10
  Speaker 2: not bad.
• 49:10
Speaker 6: Neither, yeah, because now it's like you're giving each team
• 49:13
Speaker 6: a possession and all that stuff.
• 49:15
Speaker 1: Just play the ten, flip the coin whoever gets it,
• 49:19
Speaker 1: and you play your ten.
• 49:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, and you see what happened.
• 49:23
Speaker 6: I mean, one team might score in the first minute,
• 49:25
Speaker 6: and then the other team's got nine minutes, they may
• 49:27
Speaker 6: take up all nine. Maybe they'll go score in a
• 49:29
Speaker 6: couple of minutes and it goes back and just play
• 49:31
Speaker 6: the whole ten play.
• 49:32
Speaker 2: Quarter like another quarter. Yeah.
• 49:34
Speaker 1: Now, so currently they don't play it like another It's
• 49:38
Speaker 1: like you get okay, I see what you're saying. So
• 49:40
  Speaker 1: it's just it's just a whole. It's just a quarter.
• 49:42
Speaker 1: So you're just saying play.
• 49:43
Speaker 3: Just play an extra quarter. Basically, Yeah, it happens to
• 49:49
Speaker 3: play the ten. Yeah, let the coins fallow where they may.
• 49:52
  Speaker 7: Well.
• 49:52
Speaker 3: Last night was horrible and I'm so glad I went
• 49:54
Speaker 3: to bed. I'm so glad at my house. My husband's
• 49:58
Speaker 3: a Cowboys fan. Oh man, I'm a poker fan, and
• 50:01
Speaker 3: it's not the most comfortable even to be at the Nelson.
• 50:05
Speaker 1: But it's crazy how that's turned into like a little
• 50:07
Speaker 1: rivalry now, just just based off of one trade, you know.
• 50:12
Speaker 2: So I actually I loved it. Man.
• 50:14
Speaker 1: The NFL has been super good. It's been super good.
• 50:17
Speaker 1: The chiefs beat of the Ravens. Ravens have been very disappointed.
• 50:20
Speaker 1: The Ravens are many going apart.
• 50:23
  Speaker 2: I don't that.
• 50:24
Speaker 1: And it's crazy because when you have like such elite offense,
• 50:28
Speaker 1: no they need, they need Lawrence Taylor, they need back there.
• 50:31
Speaker 1: That defense is the worst. That defense can't stop a nosebleed.
• 50:36
Speaker 1: I mean, it's it is bad. And and they were
• 50:38
Speaker 1: been known for their defense. And when you have such
• 50:40
Speaker 1: elite offensive talent and your defense can't do nothing, it's
• 50:43
Speaker 1: just it's to moralized. Trust me, I have been I
• 50:47
Speaker 1: have fortunately been on some really really good defensive teams
• 50:51
Speaker 1: that had a ton of great players on it, and.
• 50:55
Speaker 2: We we struggled with the offense.
• 50:57
Speaker 1: Yeah, you're out there, you're laying hard, you feel good,
• 51:01
Speaker 1: you high five in each other. You go to the bench.
• 51:04
Speaker 1: Two minutes later, you're back on the field. They throw
• 51:07
Speaker 1: an interception, fumble the ball, or go three plays and
• 51:10
Speaker 1: out and you're back on the field. You're like, Okay,
• 51:14
Speaker 1: let's come on, guys, let's just go. You can only
• 51:16
Speaker 1: do that for so long, right, you know, I remember
• 51:19
Speaker 1: being a state and we had most of the time
• 51:20
Speaker 1: we had better defense than offense. But I can remember
• 51:23
Speaker 1: a seayre offense was clearly better. And you go out there,
• 51:27
Speaker 1: you score twenty eight thirty points, what said you should weak.
• 51:31
Speaker 2: Points as you win by and just they just give
• 51:33
Speaker 2: it up and then you do stage.
• 51:35
Speaker 3: I'm going to bring something up because we have a
• 51:39
Speaker 3: man of honor us tonight, don't we? We do we
• 51:42
Speaker 3: have mister Lewis didn't want to say anything, but he
• 51:47
Speaker 3: was the recipient of the Young Professional Achievement Award.
• 51:51
Speaker 1: I'm question young, is that that part is a little concerning?
• 51:57
Speaker 3: I agree is, But yeah, so that's a pretty prestigious award.
• 52:02
Speaker 3: Tell us a little bit about it.
• 52:04
Speaker 1: It's I mean, you know, uh, to be recognized by
• 52:07
Speaker 1: your alma mater and that journey going to State.
• 52:13
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
• 52:13
Speaker 1: I was a local kid, so going to State and
• 52:15
Speaker 1: just like I told you, just being part of that
• 52:19
Speaker 1: village and having an opportunity to like just having the
• 52:22
Speaker 1: world sort of open up to you via the collegiate
• 52:26
Speaker 1: experience was a great thing and it really contributed to
• 52:29
Speaker 1: everything that I'm doing now. And you know, I think
• 52:33
Speaker 1: it's worth noting that. You know, that's to me, that's
• 52:36
Speaker 1: sort of the true value of college. When we talk
• 52:39
Speaker 1: about that collegiate experience. We can all academics are one thing,
• 52:43
Speaker 1: and I think as far as providing access online schools
• 52:46
Speaker 1: and different things, you can, the academics are there. But
• 52:49
Speaker 1: the true value in a collegiate experience is having that,
• 52:53
Speaker 1: you know, that education that you can't get into a classroom, right, right,
• 52:57
Speaker 1: that that education that you get. You know, there's you know,
• 53:00
Speaker 1: having mentors like Coach Lee or a variety of other people,
• 53:03
Speaker 1: and you know, like I said, just meeting people from
• 53:05
Speaker 1: around the country and and just being exposed. Right. But
• 53:10
  Speaker 1: there's you know, and I can, I mean, I can
• 53:13
Speaker 1: thank you for the for the words that you spoke
• 53:16
Speaker 1: about me at the event, and I'm gonna but I'm
• 53:20
Speaker 1: gonna address that in a different way. When you're a
• 53:25
Speaker 1: coach and you realize that there is there is somebody
• 53:31
Speaker 1: that when you touch, when you come in touch with
• 53:33
Speaker 1: them like you, you realize that there's something better for
• 53:39
Speaker 1: them than what the ball is gonna bring mm hmm.
• 53:43
Speaker 1: And that was that was clear with Hollis from the
• 53:48
Speaker 1: time that I met him. He got out on the field,
• 53:52
Speaker 1: it's good quarterback, but everything about him spoke to.
• 53:58
Speaker 2: Me success right, and he was he was. He was so.
• 54:08
Speaker 1: Different than most players from a from a mannerisms, personality
• 54:14
Speaker 1: kind of way that you could see. I could I
• 54:16
Speaker 1: felt like football was something that I think he enjoyed,
• 54:20
Speaker 1: but it wasn't. He wasn't ate up with it most
• 54:24
Speaker 1: guys like, yeah, there was something else, something bigger, emotional.
• 54:33
Speaker 2: He was He was just simply he was. He was different.
• 54:38
Speaker 1: He played football because he played football in high school
• 54:42
Speaker 1: and he was good enough to earn a scholarship.
• 54:44
Speaker 2: He was good enough to play.
• 54:47
Speaker 1: But what he but all of his focus was was
• 54:51
Speaker 1: on a greatness that did not have the ball involved
• 54:54
Speaker 1: with it, and you could see it. And then to
• 54:58
Speaker 1: be able to be front center and witness him receiving
• 55:02
Speaker 1: that award was was an honor for me. And I
• 55:07
Speaker 1: could even make the case that I wasn't shocked, you know,
• 55:12
Speaker 1: I wasn't shocked. I feel like if there if that
• 55:15
Speaker 1: award has been out there for a while, I'm trying
• 55:17
Speaker 1: to figure out like why.
• 55:18
  Speaker 2: He hadn't gotten.
• 55:21
  Speaker 6: You know.
• 55:22
Speaker 1: So just just to say this, and and and for
• 55:26
Speaker 1: the people who are listening, and for the people who
• 55:28
Speaker 1: may not know Hollis personally, what you when you when
• 55:33
Speaker 1: you find a young man.
• 55:35
Speaker 2: That has a goal.
• 55:39
Speaker 1: And has a mindset of wanting to be something different,
• 55:44
Speaker 1: something better and do better for other people, that is
• 55:48
Speaker 1: who he is to me.
• 55:50
Speaker 2: That's who he is, and that's who he's always been.
• 55:53
Speaker 1: Detective Now now next Monday, Yeah, he'll be fired by
• 56:01
Speaker 1: next Monday. So all right, well, ladies and gentlemen, we're
• 56:05
