- 0:00Speaker 1: How did the practice go?
- 0:04Speaker 2: Uh, generally, you know, pretty good, Like first days of practice. Uh,
- 0:11Speaker 2: sometimes they're uh chaotic.
- 0:14Speaker 3: You know.
- 0:14Speaker 2: One thing I've learned over the years is try to
- 0:17Speaker 2: make the first day as instructional as possible and make.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Things go.
- 0:28Speaker 2: In a way that it r they're they recognize some
- 0:30Speaker 2: of the things that we've been working on and and
- 0:33Speaker 2: at the same time, you know, the the the effort
- 0:37Speaker 2: and the energy and all the things that you look for.
- 0:41Speaker 2: M So I think some somewhere between.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Uh, it was great. You know we have.
- 0:50Speaker 2: You know, seven seniors and five of them in the
- 0:53Speaker 2: start lineup and only one freshman.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Kelly Prus's team.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I would have loved that team that was That practice
- 0:59Speaker 2: was in October, it was like March. But today, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 2: there's a lot of learning going on, a lot of
- 1:06Speaker 2: a lot of new stuff for these guys, some of them.
- 1:10Speaker 4: So all in all, I thought it was good.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I thought it was good of your deeper teams.
- 1:16Speaker 3: You have a lot of a lot of options out there.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I think so. I think we have an
- 1:21Speaker 4: opportunity to.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Play a different way then we've been kind of.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Forced to play the last couple of years. I think
- 1:31Speaker 4: we can.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Put a few more different combinations out there than we
- 1:36Speaker 2: have in the past few years. We're a little bit
- 1:43Speaker 2: longer than we have been, so people can play different positions,
- 1:54Speaker 2: you know, a little easier. People can get a breather
- 1:58Speaker 2: during games a little more so.
- 2:00Speaker 4: So, So we're trying to develop our our depth as well.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We're trying to make sure that it's quality depth, not
- 2:07Speaker 2: just body bodies extra bodies.
- 2:10Speaker 5: No, for Sarah, how was how was the ramp up
- 2:13Speaker 5: to the year two different than the year one experience?
- 2:16Speaker 5: She obviously did some great things and played herself into
- 2:20Speaker 5: a higher profile.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Yeah, believe it's just it's.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Quiet personality but such a loud game.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, when you come in as a freshman
- 2:31Speaker 2: and you're trying to just uh fit in and you're
- 2:36Speaker 2: naturally quiet. As you said, things take a little bit
- 2:40Speaker 2: of time for it to show itself. But the way
- 2:43Speaker 2: she just blended in so easily last year and the
- 2:47Speaker 2: way things you know, evolved at the end, and how
- 2:53Speaker 2: comfortable she looked. You know, they say that the biggest
- 2:59Speaker 2: jump you make in colleges between freshmen and sophomore year.
- 3:04Speaker 2: So I think having that kind of success I think
- 3:06Speaker 2: motivated Sarah to do even more. She's in better shape
- 3:11Speaker 2: than she was because she knows more. She is more
- 3:14Speaker 2: confident because she's already done it, you know, even more
- 3:18Speaker 2: assertive than she was, even more of a you know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: someone who self assured. You know, whatever words you want
- 3:28Speaker 2: to use, it's all evident, you know. So compared to
- 3:32Speaker 2: last last year's first week of practice, it's you know,
- 3:36Speaker 2: completely completely different, completely different.
- 3:40Speaker 1: How has the transition been for Sarah Williams for Hayley?
- 3:48Speaker 4: Okay?
- 3:49Speaker 2: I mean that there's I don't know which is worse. Right,
- 3:52Speaker 2: you were in high school and you don't know anything
- 3:53Speaker 2: about anything, so everything's new. Or you already played one
- 3:58Speaker 2: year in Katie's case, three years in Sarah's case, and
- 4:03Speaker 2: you already kind of have in your mind this is
- 4:05Speaker 2: how I play. Now you've got to put that aside
- 4:07Speaker 2: and move on to a different thing.
- 4:10Speaker 4: So I think in that.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Respect, they're picking things up pretty pretty quickly. We I
- 4:21Speaker 2: think Sarah knows what she wants, you know, she knows
- 4:26Speaker 2: where she wants the ball, and we're trying to put
- 4:30Speaker 2: her in those in those places, and she's confident in
- 4:35Speaker 2: some other places where she's not used to having the ball.
- 4:39Speaker 2: That's going to take a little bit of time. But
- 4:42Speaker 2: I think the thing she's good at, she's really good
- 4:46Speaker 2: at Kayley same thing.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I mean.
- 4:48Speaker 2: She likes to play fast, and which is good because
- 4:50Speaker 2: that's how we want to play. And and I think
- 4:54Speaker 2: she likes to play aggressive.
- 4:58Speaker 4: So they're both going to get a chance to do that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Do you think go to see Blong patary of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: open practice, but it's a little bit of he theirs.
- 5:05Speaker 1: How is she adjusting to to school and to just
- 5:08Speaker 1: the practices?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Now?
- 5:09Speaker 1: How would you comproject other European players.
- 5:11Speaker 4: In the past.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of similarities in all the
- 5:17Speaker 2: European players. You know, they they have pretty good fundamentals.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Their footwork is usually pretty good, their work ethic is
- 5:26Speaker 2: usually pretty good. They're used to playing against much older
- 5:30Speaker 2: players you know over there. School usually is absolutely nothing
- 5:36Speaker 2: to worry about with them. The language issue is generally
- 5:44Speaker 2: not that not that bad.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Some is better than others.
- 5:50Speaker 2: She's been away from home for so long, you know,
- 5:52Speaker 2: home being Ecuador, but then her other home is Italy,
- 5:56Speaker 2: so she's used to being on her own, used to try,
- 6:00Speaker 2: used to you know, go in to practice every day.
- 6:05Speaker 2: She was in school, used to doing school work. You know,
- 6:09Speaker 2: I think she she has a great schedule academically. She
- 6:14Speaker 2: has Spanish one O one and one O two, Italian
- 6:17Speaker 2: one O three and one O four. So I think
- 6:19Speaker 2: she's getting straight a's right now. So we're gonna we're
- 6:23Speaker 2: gonna see if we can't have her major in Italian
- 6:26Speaker 2: and minor in Spanish.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Should be d's less before you know it.
- 6:29Speaker 1: How is he on the court too?
- 6:31Speaker 4: On the court, she's.
- 6:35Speaker 2: She's fun to watch because she's unpredictable. You know, she
- 6:43Speaker 2: has a lot of skills and can do a lot
- 6:44Speaker 2: of things, and sometimes she tries to do them all
- 6:47Speaker 2: at the same time.
- 6:49Speaker 4: But she's she's fun to watch. She does.
- 6:53Speaker 2: She does some things every day that you really know
- 6:57Speaker 2: only somebody that's played against really experienced place knows that.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Is there more emphasis I think nationwide with the recruiting
- 7:04Speaker 3: kids overseas.
- 7:09Speaker 2: There has been recently, and I think there's gonna be
- 7:12Speaker 2: even more going forward. I think there's a lot of
- 7:16Speaker 2: really good players over there that had a choice between
- 7:20Speaker 2: going to America and going to school, and.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Their other choice will.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Stay home join some club team, and now that financially,
- 7:31Speaker 2: you know, it can work for them a little bit better.
- 7:34Speaker 2: You're going to see more and more than come over.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I don't think they come with the same expectations that
- 7:46Speaker 2: you might have kids over here. So I think they're
- 7:53Speaker 2: during great demand right now by coaches around the country.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Let's put it that way.
- 7:57Speaker 6: How's King and how is this different? I mean she
- 8:00Speaker 6: started two years ago, yeah, and you know, we'll see
- 8:03Speaker 6: if she starts this year. But how is it different
- 8:06Speaker 6: in the fact that two years ago she had Nika
- 8:09Speaker 6: and Paige next tour this year and still some still
- 8:13Speaker 6: veteran but not.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, now it's gonna be a a a big, big,
- 8:18Speaker 2: big adjustment for for KK. I think the the the
- 8:24Speaker 2: last two years, she's had a specific role, whether it
- 8:29Speaker 2: was when she was in the start lineup or whether
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know last year, uh, you know, coming off the bench.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I think her role was exactly the same both years,
- 8:41Speaker 2: and this year it's gonna be a little more, a
- 8:45Speaker 2: little more challenging for her because she's gonna have to.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Do a little bit more of the other.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Stuff than just come in and be disruptive. And that's
- 8:54Speaker 2: gonna take a little bit of time, you know. N
- 8:59Speaker 2: I think not having paid that impacts every kid on
- 9:02Speaker 2: our team, not.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Just Kkan you can see it out there.
- 9:08Speaker 2: But yeah, it's one more step in the learning process
- 9:12Speaker 2: for for KK, you know, and I think she's excited
- 9:16Speaker 2: about it. I think she's anxious too to be counted
- 9:22Speaker 2: on to do a little bit more.
- 9:23Speaker 6: You're being a champion change her.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I mean, I hope. So sometimes you can't tell, but
- 9:34Speaker 2: I think the the general feeling.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Is that a lot of these kids are.
- 9:42Speaker 2: A little more sure that they can as opposed to
- 9:46Speaker 2: I hope, I hope I can. I you know, I
- 9:49Speaker 2: want to be able to see if I can.
- 9:53Speaker 4: So she's a little more confident.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Probably she's you know, I don't know what what she's
- 10:06Speaker 2: like inside cause I can't get there, but I think
- 10:09Speaker 2: she's she's given the appearance that she's she's a more
- 10:14Speaker 2: confident player, more confident person.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Want to play fast. KK next to her, that must
- 10:19Speaker 4: be a dreamer. K wants to play fast as well. Yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think between uh, KK, Kayleecalise Plice is probably
- 10:36Speaker 2: the fastest of all of them in some ways. Uh
- 10:39Speaker 2: and Blanca, you know, there are a lot of you know,
- 10:45Speaker 2: Ash only goes a little bit, but when you throw
- 10:47Speaker 2: her out there too, there's a lot of there's a
- 10:52Speaker 2: lot of players that and then Sarah, you know strong
- 10:56Speaker 2: because of Sarah Squared versus Sarah Williams. Yeah, we have
- 11:06Speaker 2: the potential to play quickly, quickly, quicker, quickly, you.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Know, taking the taking the course, defending national champs. Do
- 11:13Speaker 5: you notice a little extra buzz from some of the players,
- 11:16Speaker 5: whether it's easy or some of the other Sarah, are
- 11:19Speaker 5: you feel.
- 11:19Speaker 2: That I I maybe maybe I I I think I
- 11:25Speaker 2: think there's a little bit of that. I think we
- 11:28Speaker 2: haven't you know, uh, we haven't talked about it much,
- 11:34Speaker 2: but I'm sure in the next week or so there'll
- 11:39Speaker 2: be things that will come up where you'll be able
- 11:41Speaker 2: to see what the reaction is to some of the
- 11:43Speaker 2: stresses that we put them under, you know. As as
- 11:47Speaker 2: of right now, they uh, they they they they they
- 11:56Speaker 2: they seem different. I I can't put my finger on it,
- 11:59Speaker 2: but I guess we'll know more in a couple of weeks.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Moment yet or when you expect it, when you realize
- 12:07Speaker 4: the page is it? Is it out there? You've had it?
- 12:10Speaker 4: What was that like? When do you expect to have Yeah?
- 12:15Speaker 2: I mean anytime you haven't anytime you haven't had to
- 12:21Speaker 2: make uh a big jump from you know, one player
- 12:29Speaker 2: dominating your team and you expect it, you know, year two,
- 12:34Speaker 2: year three, year four, and then all of a sudden
- 12:36Speaker 2: it's it's gone. It's a big adjustment. I think for
- 12:41Speaker 2: for me, I think for the team, there were you know,
- 12:46Speaker 2: more than a couple events today on the court that
- 12:49Speaker 2: happened where you go. I think we're gonna see more
- 12:52Speaker 2: of that because last year that would have been something
- 12:57Speaker 2: different And now you know, you have to you have
- 13:02Speaker 2: to wait for somebody to fill that void. And no
- 13:05Speaker 2: one's going to be able to fill it completely.
- 13:08Speaker 4: But it'll start.
- 13:09Speaker 2: To'll it'll start to show itself. But it's like when
- 13:15Speaker 2: Stewey laughed. It's like when Diana laughed. It's like when
- 13:18Speaker 2: Maya laughed, you know, or you know, be Tina or
- 13:22Speaker 2: you know. Anytime you have someone that's so dominant at.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Their position takes something you're getting used to. For sure.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, I don't think she's I don't I don't
- 13:39Speaker 2: think she's doing well. I think I think people should
- 13:42Speaker 2: check on her a little bit. I think she was
- 13:45Speaker 2: on vacation or something. And you know, she texts me
- 13:49Speaker 2: that I can show it to you. She says, I
- 13:51Speaker 2: miss you.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Wow.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I'm not sure it was meant for me, but I'm
- 13:59Speaker 2: going with it.
- 13:59Speaker 4: It was matter for me. Accident.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It was a butt text yah and uh, and it
- 14:05Speaker 2: kind of made me like roll my eyes and go
- 14:07Speaker 2: in we kind of miss you, We kind of miss
- 14:10Speaker 2: you more.
- 14:10Speaker 6: Speaking of the w Cheryl Ree went offciating to Deny
- 14:16Speaker 6: Becky Hammond.
- 14:18Speaker 4: I thought was real good.
- 14:19Speaker 6: They're saying she has NBA player and they said they
- 14:21Speaker 6: be fight sere.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yep, you know with the physicality.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Yeah, a lot of the officials carry are college I
- 14:29Speaker 6: don't think the three involved in the Minnesota.
- 14:32Speaker 4: I didn't recognize any of the names.
- 14:34Speaker 6: But a lot of them are. And You've always been
- 14:37Speaker 6: somewhat concerned about the physicality, even though you've had one
- 14:40Speaker 6: of the most physical teams over the years. Seeing what's
- 14:44Speaker 6: going on there, what was your feeling about it, and
- 14:49Speaker 6: are you concerned that, you know, is the college game
- 14:52Speaker 6: going to become something like with the pro game, which
- 14:55Speaker 6: seems to be, you know, at least outwardly out of control.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Yeah. I've been pretty consistent in my in my.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Observations of both college basketball and you know, where where
- 15:15Speaker 2: the positives are and where the negatives are. And I've
- 15:19Speaker 2: had a lot of NBA people, a lot of NBA people,
- 15:22Speaker 2: and a lot of former w NBA players tell me
- 15:26Speaker 2: that that what goes on on the w NBA game
- 15:31Speaker 2: is way more physical than what happens in an NBA game. Now,
- 15:35Speaker 2: you know, you go to an NBA games in the playoffs,
- 15:37Speaker 2: Well it's maybe a different story. But you know, I
- 15:42Speaker 2: think on a daily basis, I think the w NBA.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Game is.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Not conducive to to like great basketball. Okay, I mean
- 15:55Speaker 2: you can spend it any way you want. Well, there's
- 15:57Speaker 2: more viewers, there's more that that's great. That doesn't mean
- 16:00Speaker 2: it's a better game just because more people are watching. Supposedly,
- 16:04Speaker 2: you watched last year's final game between the Liberty and
- 16:10Speaker 2: the Links. It was a horrendous game. But any way
- 16:13Speaker 2: you want to spend it, it was a horrendous game,
- 16:16Speaker 2: two of the two best teams in the league. And
- 16:19Speaker 2: what score was twenty to twenty at halftime? Or some
- 16:22Speaker 2: crazy people can't get open, people can't cut. The ball
- 16:26Speaker 2: handler's getting you know, whacked every time they move. Listen,
- 16:33Speaker 2: you always expect your best player or the other you know,
- 16:36Speaker 2: you always expect your best player to have a rough time.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I've been through that, and I've complained about it a lot.
- 16:42Speaker 2: I just think that the way the game. And I
- 16:46Speaker 2: don't blame the officials. Everybody says, you know, these officials
- 16:49Speaker 2: are bad. Those officials are good. If we had those officials,
- 16:52Speaker 2: it'd be a better game. I don't think it's the
- 16:54Speaker 2: people actually officiating the games. I think it's what's in
- 17:00Speaker 2: the rule book or what's accepted as this is the
- 17:02Speaker 2: style of play that we want. Cause if they didn't
- 17:05Speaker 2: want that style of play, they wouldn't have it. So
- 17:08Speaker 2: you can't just say it was the official's fault.
- 17:10Speaker 6: For example, did you think the play in the FISA
- 17:14Speaker 6: was a foul? And did did you see the tweet
- 17:16Speaker 6: from NBA referees Twitter saying it wasn't the bowl because
- 17:20Speaker 6: the steel was clean and the contact.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I I didn't see all the comments, and actually I
- 17:27Speaker 2: I you know, I didn't see the foul. I I
- 17:31Speaker 2: I saw the the replay I didn't see and even that,
- 17:35Speaker 2: and that the steel was clean like in the actual
- 17:39Speaker 2: s S clip that I saw. The actual getting the
- 17:42Speaker 2: ball was to me, was clean. What happened did Does
- 17:49Speaker 2: that is that a continuation of the play? Is it
- 17:54Speaker 2: incidental contact.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't think.
- 17:59Speaker 2: As a as as a coach. I can't read her mind.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I don't think their coach reacted the way she reacted
- 18:11Speaker 2: on that call. I think that reaction was on an
- 18:16Speaker 2: entire game of that in which a lot of it
- 18:19Speaker 2: was not incidental. It's intentional. I don't mean intentional towards
- 18:24Speaker 2: you know, any particular player, but it's an intentional grab
- 18:28Speaker 2: and hold and all the things that you that you
- 18:32Speaker 2: can get away with in the w N B A.
- 18:34Speaker 2: And I think that probably just added up, add it up,
- 18:38Speaker 2: at it up, at it up, and then you lose
- 18:39Speaker 2: your mind and do things that you normally wouldn't do.
- 18:43Speaker 4: You know. Is that that the officials fault? I don't know.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I just think that's what's allowed. It's like theo that
- 18:56Speaker 2: happened in the Ryder Cup that's not allowed at AUGUSTA correct.
- 19:02Speaker 2: So whatever happens is because it's allowed to happen. If
- 19:06Speaker 2: it wasn't if it wasn't acceptable, it wouldn't be allowed
- 19:09Speaker 2: to happen.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Okay, So.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I think the the rules are the rules, and I
- 19:18Speaker 2: think the officials are probably officiating the game according to
- 19:22Speaker 2: the rules that they've been handed down, so if they
- 19:27Speaker 2: want to change it, they'll change it. Is the NBA
- 19:30Speaker 2: game the same as it was during the Michael Jordan,
- 19:33Speaker 2: Isaiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, Kurt Rambis years. No, the game's different.
- 19:38Speaker 2: It's officiated different. Correct, everybody knows that it's officiated different.
- 19:43Speaker 2: It's the strike's own the same as it was when
- 19:46Speaker 2: you know Mike Schmid played or Babe Ruth played. You
- 19:49Speaker 2: know the game's officiated different. Why it's a different time,
- 19:53Speaker 2: different game. So if you want the game to be different,
- 19:55Speaker 2: do you have to legislate it to be different. I
- 20:00Speaker 2: think this is the way they want the game. That's
- 20:04Speaker 2: all that I can assume. Me personally, I don't think
- 20:07Speaker 2: people want to watch that.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I can't watch it.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But and it's a shame because there's a lot of really,
- 20:13Speaker 2: really really good players.
- 20:15Speaker 4: That are not being able. That was always my thing.
- 20:17Speaker 2: There's a lot of really really good players that you
- 20:20Speaker 2: can't see just how talented they are because they're not
- 20:23Speaker 2: allowed to be.
- 20:25Speaker 4: They're not allowed to be. You know, it's.
- 20:32Speaker 2: You can hit a you can hit a basketball player
- 20:35Speaker 2: more times than you can hit a wide receiver. In
- 20:38Speaker 2: the NFL, after the first five yards. You can't touch
- 20:41Speaker 2: a wide receiver correct well after the guy takes an
- 20:45Speaker 2: inbound pass, they could still be out of you.
- 20:49Speaker 4: And there's no call.
- 20:51Speaker 2: So in some weird the tire mind, it's more physical
- 20:57Speaker 2: on the WNBA, it's in the NFL. I mean, I
- 21:04Speaker 2: don't believe it, but I can say it cause we
- 21:07Speaker 2: live in a world where you can say, dumb.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Are your Uh injured players come along?
- 21:13Speaker 3: You mentioned Ash, but uh Morgan and Jenna wasn't out
- 21:16Speaker 3: there blocked.
- 21:17Speaker 4: And jad Jen. Jenna did a part of practice. I
- 21:23Speaker 4: don't know what percentage, but she.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Was involved in a a pers maybe a third of
- 21:29Speaker 2: all the practice.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Morgan, I don't know.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I have no idea yet when that's gonna be resolved.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Uh. Ash went through.
- 21:39Speaker 2: About three quarters of practice, so little by little you're
- 21:45Speaker 2: getting closer and closer to having Ash full time. Jenna
- 21:51Speaker 2: keep her hamping that up a little bit.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Morgan.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Uh, And don't know, don't know what her timetable is
- 21:59Speaker 2: right now?
- 22:00Speaker 3: Do you like to open division one of scrimmages or
- 22:03Speaker 3: would you rather kind of hide your growing pains earlier
- 22:08Speaker 3: in the season til you started playing the the rank teams.
- 22:14Speaker 4: I I like the exhibition games. Uh, I L I like.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I like what we're what we're gonna do. I think
- 22:21Speaker 4: it's great. I think we should do more of it.
- 22:25Speaker 2: You know, we should do more of it, and I'm
- 22:26Speaker 2: sure down the road we will, we will. I mean,
- 22:30Speaker 2: we played Boston College when Asy and Caroline were freshmen.
- 22:34Speaker 4: M we played them over here and works.
- 22:38Speaker 2: But that's before we had to pay them. Now when
- 22:41Speaker 2: we play them again, we're gonna play in front of
- 22:44Speaker 2: nine thousand people and a double header with the men,
- 22:50Speaker 2: cause we're gonna pay 'em.
- 22:53Speaker 4: So world has changed.
- 22:55Speaker 2: So instead of you know, secret scrimmages and I shibition
- 23:00Speaker 2: games against you know people nobody really wants to watch,
- 23:04Speaker 2: I think you're gonna see more of this and I
- 23:06Speaker 2: like it, you know, against a really good team.
- 23:09Speaker 4: You know.
- 23:10Speaker 2: We had a great scrimmage last year with Columbia, another
- 23:17Speaker 2: year with Syracuse. I think one year was your mass.
- 23:21Speaker 4: So I like it.
- 23:22Speaker 6: I like it.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Create for your fans, have the say all of it.
- 23:25Speaker 3: See the man and the women playing.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean there's the doubleheader.
- 23:30Speaker 2: We play that big time, you know, a little big
- 23:33Speaker 2: gap a couple hours, you know. I think the Mohigans
- 23:39Speaker 2: were I think generous enough to give our fans time
- 23:42Speaker 2: to go contribute some money to to their accountant and
- 23:48Speaker 2: grab some dinner and then stay and watch the Mexican
- 23:51Speaker 2: It should be a lot of fun and looking forward
- 23:53Speaker 2: to it. I don't remember the last time our ment
- 23:55Speaker 2: I played BC. It's been a while, right, Wow, So
- 24:01Speaker 2: it's pretty cool.
- 24:02Speaker 4: I like it.
- 24:04Speaker 5: You know, when you were talking about Sarah, you mentioned
- 24:07Speaker 5: there's always that potential for a big job year one, two,
- 24:09Speaker 5: year or two. Yeah, a lot of players that for
- 24:11Speaker 5: her all goes according to plan. What do you think
- 24:15Speaker 5: that looks like for her this year? You know, what
- 24:19Speaker 5: what's next in her development as an elite player?
- 24:23Speaker 2: For Sarah Schrank, Yes, I I I think it's just
- 24:27Speaker 2: continued to be what you've been, you know, continue to
- 24:30Speaker 2: do what you did, keep building on what you did
- 24:33Speaker 2: last year, you know, I I we probably we probably
- 24:40Speaker 2: saw most of what Sarah has to offer last year
- 24:44Speaker 2: in the in the NC tournament. You know, she may
- 24:48Speaker 2: have had the best rookie NC tournament of anybody ever,
- 24:52Speaker 2: given the impact that she had and some of the numbers.
- 24:54Speaker 4: She put up.
- 24:56Speaker 2: So you could say, well, it's hard to build on that, but.
- 25:00Speaker 4: I think her impact is is.
- 25:05Speaker 2: It's it's going to be significant, but maybe because people
- 25:11Speaker 2: have seen some of it already, it may not be
- 25:13Speaker 2: as big a deal. But I think the the impact,
- 25:19Speaker 2: I think is going to be pretty significant, you know,
- 25:24Speaker 2: even more so than last year. And defensively, I think
- 25:28Speaker 2: she's got a whole other, whole other level, you know,
- 25:33Speaker 2: and you'll see that, you know, like last year, you know,
- 25:36Speaker 2: or the last couple of years. You know, we use
- 25:37Speaker 2: page as are you know everywhere guard big guys, guard guards,
- 25:43Speaker 2: you know, and I think this year, you know, Sarah
- 25:47Speaker 2: could be that that person should be guarding the point guard,
- 25:50Speaker 2: should be guarding the center, and should be you know,
- 25:52Speaker 2: everywhere on the floor and and scoring a lot a
- 25:58Speaker 2: lot of the same ways that she did last year,
- 26:01Speaker 2: and maybe even more more more other ways.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Because she's been a fun kid for you to get
- 26:06Speaker 5: to know and work with.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Yeah this year, yess year. Yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Anna has been working a lot with Sarah on on
- 26:16Speaker 2: some things. And one of the things they worked on,
- 26:20Speaker 2: she was forced to come in and talk to me
- 26:24Speaker 2: and we had a great back and forth and ask
- 26:27Speaker 2: each other questions, and you know, I was pretending to
- 26:30Speaker 2: be one of you guys. I was interviewing her and
- 26:32Speaker 2: then I was pretending to be her and the kind
- 26:34Speaker 2: of answers that she gave.
- 26:36Speaker 4: So we had a lot of fun with that.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I said, I'll be you, you be one of the reporters,
- 26:40Speaker 2: and you know, and uh, it was fun. It was
- 26:44Speaker 2: one of the most fun conversations that we've had in
- 26:47Speaker 2: a while.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I know Yana was in here today as a class
- 26:50Speaker 1: but just what's like seeing here back in the court of.
- 26:52Speaker 4: For two years ca.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, she hasn't lost any of
- 26:59Speaker 2: her athletic ability, that's for sure.
- 27:02Speaker 4: You know, her energy.
- 27:05Speaker 2: It's just, you know, when you think about it, it's
- 27:09Speaker 2: a long time since I've seen her on the court.
- 27:12Speaker 2: You know, her freshman year seems like forever ago. But yeah, no,
- 27:17Speaker 2: she's still the same Yana, Still the same defender, the
- 27:20Speaker 2: same rebounder. I think she's gotten a little more confident
- 27:24Speaker 2: around the basket. But you know, whenever you have something
- 27:30Speaker 2: and a style that no one else on our team can,
- 27:33Speaker 2: can you know, duplicate, That's that's a pretty good place
- 27:36Speaker 2: to be in. See how quickly she gets her her
- 27:40Speaker 2: game back. You know, all this workouts and stuff is great,
- 27:44Speaker 2: but games are completely different.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Which jumper are you hoping to see out of the
- 27:48Speaker 1: Ash this year?
- 27:52Speaker 2: You know, I think, like Carl said, you know, last
- 27:55Speaker 2: year was there. Last year should have been their freshman year,
- 27:58Speaker 2: you know, where you kind of play a different role.
- 28:02Speaker 2: And so now she's already had a you know, two
- 28:07Speaker 2: years under her belt, and we've been talking a lot
- 28:10Speaker 2: in our office about how vocal she's been, how you know,
- 28:16Speaker 2: I would say, there's never a day that Ash comes
- 28:25Speaker 2: the practice and doesn't give you the best that she
- 28:29Speaker 2: has in every area, every area, she's always locked in,
- 28:32Speaker 2: she's always prepared. She's become much more vocal. I would
- 28:41Speaker 2: expect her to aviove into a team leader, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 2: on some way.
- 28:45Speaker 4: But whether it's.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Verbally, whether it's loud, whether it's subtle, whether it's obvious
- 28:52Speaker 2: and everybody sees it, or whether it's under the radar.
- 28:55Speaker 2: But I do think she's going to be one of
- 28:58Speaker 2: those one of those team leaders.
- 29:00Speaker 3: And you've talked about needing leaders to emerge.
- 29:02Speaker 1: In the absence of page.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Has anyone stood out in that respect besides Ash?
- 29:08Speaker 4: Carol?
- 29:08Speaker 2: You know Carol's cause she spent a lot of time
- 29:11Speaker 2: talking to him last year, you know, and gotten to
- 29:13Speaker 2: know them a little, a little bit, Sarah Strong. You know,
- 29:20Speaker 2: the the people that I think sometimes look to be
- 29:24Speaker 2: the quietest have an impact. And and no one has evolved,
- 29:34Speaker 2: as you know, that's our team leader, and maybe nobody
- 29:39Speaker 2: wants to be. Maybe it's just like let it. Let's
- 29:41Speaker 2: just see how it evolves, and let's see how it
- 29:44Speaker 2: happens organically.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I don't know right now. It's a work in progress.
- 29:53Speaker 1: As they say, do you think last week that Carol
- 29:55Speaker 1: is still kind of day to day m how are
- 29:57Speaker 1: you balancing her worklow?
- 29:58Speaker 4: Just as you guys get going, we just let her go.
- 30:00Speaker 2: She's in practice as long as she wants to be.
- 30:03Speaker 2: And then when she's not, she's not. And as I
- 30:07Speaker 2: said last week, I'm approaching it like I'm counting her
- 30:11Speaker 2: to be available how much I don't know what days,
- 30:15Speaker 2: I don't know. I just know she's going to be
- 30:17Speaker 2: available and she'll be she'll determine that when she can go.
- 30:27Speaker 2: So and it's it's it's a hamstring thing, and those things,
- 30:33Speaker 2: you know, they just are They take time. They take time,
- 30:38Speaker 2: and it's not like you can rush it. It's just
- 30:45Speaker 2: it is what it is and bugs the heck out
- 30:48Speaker 2: of her because she wants to be on the court
- 30:50Speaker 2: every minute of every day. So in some ways it's
- 30:54Speaker 2: actually been, in my mind, kind of pretty good to
- 30:58Speaker 2: slow her down a little bit because she's twenty four
- 31:01Speaker 2: to seven go, you know, but she'll be ready.
- 31:05Speaker 4: She'll be ready.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Is Jana's also related?
- 31:10Speaker 3: Uh?
- 31:10Speaker 2: Yeah, she had a catf issue a while back. I
- 31:15Speaker 2: Mean it wasn't anything that you could say, well, she's
- 31:20Speaker 2: going to be out a long time, but a lot
- 31:22Speaker 2: of these nagging things, you know, if you don't if
- 31:26Speaker 2: you don't take care of them, now, they become chronic
- 31:29Speaker 2: and then you got to deal with them every year,
- 31:31Speaker 2: I mean the whole year. So we're trying to be proactive.
- 31:35Speaker 4: And all that. Well, there you have it. Have fun,
