- 0:02Each individual has a unique way of relating to and developing
- 0:06his spiritual aspiration. Those who are more
- 0:10intellectually, inclined may find that they naturally
- 0:13inclined towards what is known as The Yoga of knowledge.
- 0:17Those were of a nature more inclined, to devotion and
- 0:19emotional expression, may take up the yoga of love and
- 0:24devotion, those who have an active vital nature, will
- 0:27probably find that the yoga of works.
- 0:30Is the best path. Some believe that these choices
- 0:34are fixed for an individual by their nature for an entire
- 0:38lifetime yet. A close examination.
- 0:41Makes it clear that these paths are not necessarily entirely
- 0:45mutually exclusive nor are they static in the life of an
- 0:50individual. There may indeed be a leading
- 0:54power of the nature that predominates but that does not
- 0:57exclude the action of the other powers.
- 1:01Indeed the further one progresses, the more the
- 1:05elements of the other paths may become active further as the
- 1:10nature develops and old obstacles in the nature are
- 1:13removed or ameliorated. One may find an opening to
- 1:17another path as the Spiritual Development occurs.
- 1:22The example of milarepa the great Tibetan Yogi is obvious.
- 1:28He went to his Guru Martha with great devotion, but was put to
- 1:32work building and then unbuilding and building again,
- 1:36various structures through heavy labor.
- 1:40He was not permitted to take part in any teachings or
- 1:43meditation practices. At a certain point in time,
- 1:47however, his devotion wavered and he began to doubt his
- 1:51spiritual Destiny. It was just at that phase, that
- 1:56marpa intervened and gave him the deeper teachings and set him
- 2:00on the path of meditation, which he, Then followed throughout the
- 2:05rest of his life. As evidenced in his
- 2:08compositions, the hundred thousand songs of milarepa.
- 2:12He had a strong devotional nature that And through and
- 2:16uplifted and carried him, through all his tribulations, he
- 2:21experienced the fruits of all three paths intertwining and
- 2:25acting forcefully one or the other at various stages in his
- 2:30development. Dr. Dalal writes quote numerous
- 2:37are the paths that have been discovered for achieving inner
- 2:40growth and realizing the truth. The various psychological paths
- 2:44may be classified into three broad types.
- 2:46Corresponding to the three basic psychological aspects of the
- 2:51human make up The Path of Knowledge, corresponding to the
- 2:55cognitive or thinking aspect. The path of devotion related to
- 3:00the affective or emotional. Channel Side of human nature and
- 3:05the path of works are action based on man's cognitive aspect,
- 3:09which has to do with striving and willing.
- 3:13Almost all paths contain elements of each of the three
- 3:16broad types. Just mentioned the one
- 3:19particular type element knowledge devotion or Works made
- 3:24for domini. The secret is drawn to One path
- 3:27or another, depending on what predominates in one
- 3:30psychological makeup. Regarding the best path to
- 3:34follow. The rule is contained in the
- 3:36celebrated words of the Gita. Better is to adharma.
- 3:40The law of One's Own being, even though itself faulty, then an
- 3:45alien law well-wrought out death.
- 3:49In one's own law of being is better.
- 3:52Perilous, it is to follow a law, foreign to one's own nature.
