- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:13Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Brent Randall, Seth, Max, Tresa, Corey Mett,
- 0:21Speaker 2: and Christine. This is a ten round quiz show with
- 0:24Speaker 2: questions from Meat Eater's four verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:28Speaker 2: conservation and cooking. And there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:31Speaker 2: will donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of
- 0:34Speaker 2: the winners choosing and for the start of the week.
- 0:37Speaker 2: This week we're revisiting Randall's crossword puzzle scores from a
- 0:43Speaker 2: few episodes ago. Randall got exactly three hundred and eighty
- 0:47Speaker 2: points on each of the first four med Eater crossword puzzles. Well,
- 0:51Speaker 2: this week was different, Randal. Do you want to tell
- 0:53Speaker 2: folks what happened?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Yeah, there is an accusation of some improprieties and so
- 1:01Speaker 3: I volunteered or was volunteered to film myself.
- 1:06Speaker 4: So let's get away to put it.
- 1:08Speaker 3: So Matt was kind enough to step in and film me.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And were you more were you more nervous going in?
- 1:15Speaker 3: I wasn't nervous. I wasn't nervous. I don't really know
- 1:17Speaker 3: how to explain it other than to say that I
- 1:23Speaker 3: it ruined my day.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Okay, he was not happy.
- 1:26Speaker 3: It ruined my day. Rand's kind of having a rough
- 1:28Speaker 3: patch lately, some devastating losses in trivia, including you know,
- 1:34Speaker 3: my five point performance a few weeks ago. So trying
- 1:37Speaker 3: to write the ship here and yesterday really didn't help.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:39Speaker 2: On crossword puzzle number five, Randall got a score of
- 1:44Speaker 2: three hundred and forty six with a time of four
- 1:46Speaker 2: minutes twenty one seconds. That's nearly two full minutes longer
- 1:50Speaker 2: than his previous average. So this week might be your
- 1:53Speaker 2: best chance to beat mister three eighty. Head over to
- 1:56Speaker 2: the meadeater dot com slash games to play our crosswords
- 2:00Speaker 2: for free spencer.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Can you see everyone score?
- 2:03Speaker 2: I can see. I think I can, but it's usually
- 2:06Speaker 2: just a sign to like a random user name or
- 2:09Speaker 2: email address, so I kind of I kind of have
- 2:11Speaker 2: an idea about what.
- 2:12Speaker 5: But you can see the scores?
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yes, I can see the scores.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Are they ever more than three eighty?
- 2:17Speaker 4: Very rarely?
- 2:17Speaker 2: I think of like tens of thousands of scores that
- 2:21Speaker 2: I had looked at. Will be fair to Randall? Here
- 2:22Speaker 2: for a minute. He was always at the top. I
- 2:24Speaker 2: think he's put up like four of the top ten
- 2:27Speaker 2: scores of all time. Yeah, and to be clear, three
- 2:32Speaker 2: forty six. People would be thrilled with a three forty six.
- 2:34Speaker 2: But he's no longer mister three eighty.
- 2:37Speaker 5: It can never come back.
- 2:38Speaker 6: I feel like someone beats Randall, they should get like
- 2:41Speaker 6: a prize or something.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Okay, I think you can do it, Maxwell, No, I
- 2:45Speaker 2: can't beat them. I can't imagine the stress you feel
- 2:47Speaker 2: Randall when you start one of these crossword puzzles. If
- 2:50Speaker 2: you were to start sneezing or something, but throw the
- 2:52Speaker 2: whole thing off.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But I know you got like a pre game that
- 2:55Speaker 1: you do before you start.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I just make sure that the the balance of chemicals
- 3:01Speaker 3: that I'm putting into my body is optimized. Take a
- 3:05Speaker 3: little pre workout, caffeine. Yeah, but no, it's it. I
- 3:11Speaker 3: do feel a lot of stress when I see the link.
- 3:14Speaker 3: There's a mixture of terror and excitement. And this week
- 3:18Speaker 3: all of my nightmares came true.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So the medeater dot Com slash Games here's our Infrequently
- 3:25Speaker 2: Asked Question segment. If you have a trivia related question
- 3:28Speaker 2: for our crew, send it to Trivia at the medeater
- 3:31Speaker 2: dot com with the subject line I FAQ. This one
- 3:34Speaker 2: is actually an faqu. Since about thirty people have emailed
- 3:37Speaker 2: about this, shouldn't the segment be called IAQ instead of
- 3:41Speaker 2: I faq since infrequently is just one word. No, I
- 3:47Speaker 2: mean the listeners who wrote in with that feedback are wrong,
- 3:49Speaker 2: but using an acronym like that isn't uncommon, as noted
- 3:53Speaker 2: by this twenty seventeen Norm McDonald joke play the clip Phil.
- 4:00Speaker 7: I was in the airport guys were asked about everyone
- 4:03Speaker 7: my IDA, and it occurred to me that I D
- 4:06Speaker 7: is a strange abbreviation because I is short for I
- 4:11Speaker 7: and then d's short for identification, so.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Saves to me D is.
- 4:20Speaker 7: Doing most of the.
- 4:26Speaker 2: So it's still the I F a Q segment. If
- 4:28Speaker 2: you have a trivia related question for us, use the
- 4:32Speaker 2: subject line I f a Q and send your email
- 4:34Speaker 2: to Trivia at the medeater dot com. Now for this
- 4:37Speaker 2: week's housekeeping section, I want to tell you about two
- 4:40Speaker 2: of the newest trivia products for this year. Can we
- 4:42Speaker 2: get a drum roll Phil? Coming out later this fall?
- 4:47Speaker 2: Meat Eater trivia expansion packs got them right here. We
- 4:54Speaker 2: had two expansion packs available, a Hunting Expansion Pack and
- 4:58Speaker 2: a Phishing Expansion Pack. If you're watching this on YouTube,
- 5:01Speaker 2: you are the first people to get to see these
- 5:03Speaker 2: expansion packs.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Uh.
- 5:05Speaker 2: These expansion packs have two hundred new questions to go
- 5:08Speaker 2: along with the eight hundred questions from the original board game,
- 5:12Speaker 2: and you don't even need the board game to enjoy
- 5:14Speaker 2: these standalone cards. Throw this expansion pack in your glove
- 5:17Speaker 2: box or backpack, and you've got hours of outdoor entertainment.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Each pack will retail for just ten dollars, and like
- 5:23Speaker 2: the board game, a portion of sales will go to conservation.
- 5:27Speaker 2: That means your purgase helps fun things like land access
- 5:30Speaker 2: and wildlife habitat. It's quite literally the only board game
- 5:32Speaker 2: where conservation always wins. The med Eater Trivia Hunting Expansion
- 5:37Speaker 2: Pack and Meat Eater Trivia Fishing Expansion Pack will be
- 5:41Speaker 2: available soon. More details to come. Thank you, Max. We've
- 5:44Speaker 2: got a regular old van White over here.
- 5:46Speaker 4: I like what you did glue for fishing.
- 5:49Speaker 2: That's right, every kid.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Every kid grows up hoping that they could make a
- 5:56Speaker 3: board game someday. Right of the few that reached that
- 6:03Speaker 3: pinnacle of excellence. Yeah, how many of those are lucky
- 6:06Speaker 3: enough to create an expansion pack.
- 6:08Speaker 2: To the answer to that, we I'm tickled though that
- 6:12Speaker 2: we have these two expansion packs available. They'll be on
- 6:16Speaker 2: our website very soon and they're just ten dollars. Also,
- 6:19Speaker 2: we have one more new trivia product that will come
- 6:22Speaker 2: out this year. Out of everything we've made, it's the
- 6:24Speaker 2: thing I'm most excited about. I'll explain what that is
- 6:28Speaker 2: very soon. So you've got the two expansion packs and
- 6:31Speaker 2: then one more thing, uh that will reveal at a
- 6:34Speaker 2: later date. The Shelby Index for today is a four,
- 6:37Speaker 2: so our winner should get eight correct answers, and with
- 6:41Speaker 2: that we're onto the game of trivia.
- 6:43Speaker 7: Play.
- 6:43Speaker 2: The drop film is that he.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Is just everything, just tend to win everything.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Gamon suckers like an athlete.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Over here.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Max has now taken off his warm up. He pitched
- 7:07Speaker 2: it behind him. He's down to a T shirt. So
- 7:09Speaker 2: we can play trivia. All right, let's go Question one.
- 7:13Speaker 2: The topic is conservation and this first great question is
- 7:17Speaker 2: via kirk Port. This will be multiple choice.
- 7:20Speaker 8: Sorry Spencer, really quick, I have the question right. I
- 7:23Speaker 8: did not put the I forgot to replace the multiple
- 7:25Speaker 8: choice answers, so you're gonna see some percentages. Do not
- 7:28Speaker 8: regard those in any way.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Okay, the percentages are from a different from Okay, you'll
- 7:34Speaker 2: have to listen to me instead of the TV.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Let's if I can live edit it.
- 7:38Speaker 2: This Native American tribe has a national forest named after
- 7:42Speaker 2: them that's in North Carolina and Tennessee. Is it Cherokee, Shawnee,
- 7:49Speaker 2: Kickapoo or Comanche? This Native American tribe has a national
- 7:56Speaker 2: forest named after them that's in North Carolina, Tennessee. Your
- 8:00Speaker 2: four choices Cherokee, Shawnee, Kickapoo, Comanchee. Or if you're looking
- 8:07Speaker 2: at Phil screen, your choices are twenty five percent. Phil
- 8:15Speaker 2: has live edited Phil.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Nice job.
- 8:19Speaker 2: He gave himself the test.
- 8:20Speaker 5: That's right, Just to impress all of you.
- 8:23Speaker 3: It worked again.
- 8:24Speaker 2: A Native American tribe that has a national forest named
- 8:27Speaker 2: after them in North Carolina and Tennessee. Cherokee, Shawnee, Kickapoo, Comanchee.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Is everybody ready?
- 8:35Speaker 4: Ah?
- 8:36Speaker 2: Sure, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have seth
- 8:41Speaker 2: saying Cherokee, Christine Shawnee, Tresa Shawnee, Randall, Cherokee, Matt Shawnee,
- 8:51Speaker 2: Corey Shawnee, Max Shawnee, Brent Cherokee. No one said Kickapoo
- 8:59Speaker 2: or Commanchee. Correct answer is Cherokee. I think we had
- 9:04Speaker 2: three players. I get that one right. The Cherokee National
- 9:09Speaker 2: Forest is a diverse area that butts up against Great
- 9:13Speaker 2: Smoky Mountains National Park. It's actually where the whitewater competition
- 9:17Speaker 2: was held for the nineteen ninety six Olympic Games in Atlanta.
- 9:21Speaker 2: The metal podium for whitewater sports that year was dominated
- 9:24Speaker 2: by the Czech Republic, France and Germany. Question two, The
- 9:29Speaker 2: topic is fishing. Actor Vigo Mortensen would often go fishing
- 9:34Speaker 2: between scenes while on the set of these movies. The
- 9:41Speaker 2: topic is fishing. If Corey, Matt and Randall, we've confidently
- 9:48Speaker 2: come up with an answer already. Actor Vigo Mortensen would
- 9:51Speaker 2: often go fishing between scenes while on the set of
- 9:56Speaker 2: these movies.
- 9:58Speaker 5: So there's like a series of movies.
- 10:01Speaker 2: We're just gonna stick with the wording of the questions.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Says while on the set of these movies.
- 10:07Speaker 3: There's actually two different movies, two separate.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I don't I don't know what Randall's attempting to do here.
- 10:16Speaker 3: We're very strange. If it was like, uh, the movie, yeah,
- 10:21Speaker 3: what's the one Russian prison.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Yeah, if it was Russian prison and cars, Yeah, weird combination.
- 10:28Speaker 1: What am I?
- 10:28Speaker 3: What am I? Promises? Boy, I don't watch that one
- 10:32Speaker 3: with your family.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Bego.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Mortensen would often go fishing between scenes while on the
- 10:39Speaker 2: set of these movies.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Did he start in the movie?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Not going to give you any hints?
- 10:46Speaker 1: Uh?
- 10:47Speaker 2: Maybe the director Corey Randall and Matt they seem to
- 10:51Speaker 2: know him. Maybe they want to help you out set.
- 10:54Speaker 3: That first question.
- 10:55Speaker 2: They don't.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of the one with Tom Hanks
- 10:58Speaker 3: Phil sort of a gangster.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Movie, Polar Express.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Yeah, road to Tradition.
- 11:06Speaker 5: I don't think Watson's in road to pradition?
- 11:08Speaker 2: Is he?
- 11:09Speaker 5: I believe there's Jude Law.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Oh god, I'm getting everybody wrong. I'll shut up now.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Everybody have an answer.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Come on, I could have sworn it.
- 11:25Speaker 1: John Movies.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Is that how you pronounce his name? I thought it
- 11:28Speaker 2: was I thought it was Vigo.
- 11:29Speaker 3: But no, I just think sounds funny.
- 11:31Speaker 4: It's your favorite movie of all time.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I'm not gonna tell you Maxwell.
- 11:35Speaker 6: Sounds I was just I'm just curious, Like, I don't
- 11:39Speaker 6: think it's the right answer.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 11:47Speaker 2: have seth saying grumpy and grumpyer old men. Christine who
- 11:52Speaker 2: somebody might have cheated off each other also says grumpy
- 11:56Speaker 2: old man. Tresa says Harry Potter, Random says Lord of
- 12:00Speaker 2: the Rings. Matt and Corey say Lord of the Rings.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Maxwell says top Gun, Brent says Fast and the Furious. Yes,
- 12:11Speaker 2: the correct answer is Lord of the Rings. We had Randall,
- 12:14Speaker 2: Matt and Corey get that right. Mortensen fell in love
- 12:22Speaker 2: with New Zealand while filming Lord of the Rings because
- 12:25Speaker 2: of the country's wild places. He once said in an
- 12:28Speaker 2: interview that the fishing was so good that he wouldn't
- 12:31Speaker 2: reveal the names of the rivers he fished to protect
- 12:33Speaker 2: his secret spots. Here's a behind the scenes look at
- 12:36Speaker 2: Mortensen running off set to go fly fishing during Lord
- 12:39Speaker 2: of the Rings. Play the clip, Phil, are you on camera?
- 12:47Speaker 9: No?
- 12:54Speaker 2: Literally, ran off set.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Waiting any second they're gonna say, I have to go
- 13:03Speaker 3: back to work.
- 13:05Speaker 4: That's amazing.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Good for him.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Five minute fish break.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Where was that filmed?
- 13:12Speaker 2: That was filmed in New Zealand. We are on to
- 13:17Speaker 2: question three. The topic is hunting. This next great question
- 13:21Speaker 2: is via Michael Stedniski. Name two of what the New
- 13:26Speaker 2: Mexico Wildlife Federation refers to as the state Big three exotics.
- 13:34Speaker 2: You need to write down two of them. We'll put
- 13:36Speaker 2: one or three. You'll get it wrong. Name two of
- 13:39Speaker 2: what the New Mexico Wildlife Federation refers to has the
- 13:43Speaker 2: states Big three Exotics. M Seth and Randall appear confident.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Rest of the room still working on their answer. Phil,
- 13:55Speaker 2: do you love Lord of the Rings?
- 13:57Speaker 1: Oh?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, how does it okay?
- 14:01Speaker 5: How does it rank for what.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It's like all your favorite movies of all time? Or
- 14:04Speaker 2: like as far as things that have a lot of
- 14:06Speaker 2: movies like Star Wars and Harry Potter.
- 14:08Speaker 5: I just think the Lord of the Rings movie.
- 14:10Speaker 8: I mean they blended high fantasy and just like big
- 14:13Speaker 8: populist entertainment really will like it's kind of hard when
- 14:16Speaker 8: you got big goofy elf names and a bunch of
- 14:18Speaker 8: orcs running around to really feel the humanity and the characters.
- 14:21Speaker 2: But have they captured you for the new Amazon series?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Isn't that really?
- 14:25Speaker 8: I have not watched a single frame of Rings of Power.
- 14:27Speaker 8: I have no interest in it.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Oh you just you just won't do it.
- 14:30Speaker 8: I might get around to it I just I heard
- 14:33Speaker 8: mixed things and and something about how sparkly and big
- 14:36Speaker 8: budget it looks. And you know, I don't really care
- 14:39Speaker 8: about any of the characters. And also you know it's
- 14:42Speaker 8: it's not really Cannon and Tolkien's you.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Know, very damning.
- 14:47Speaker 5: I've got reasons.
- 14:48Speaker 1: What do you got? Max?
- 14:49Speaker 2: You got the right answer for this one? To Max
- 14:51Speaker 2: is confident?
- 14:52Speaker 4: Change your answer?
- 14:53Speaker 1: No?
- 14:53Speaker 4: I have three?
- 14:55Speaker 2: Two New Mexican Wildlife three.
- 15:00Speaker 3: And then Max shows he was bored.
- 15:02Speaker 4: No, that did happen?
- 15:04Speaker 5: That did happen?
- 15:05Speaker 2: But name two of Mexico's big three exotics.
- 15:09Speaker 4: You gotta give me one. Next time.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I'll tell you.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Brent. What did I say prior to the room filling
- 15:16Speaker 3: up about Max?
- 15:19Speaker 1: There?
- 15:19Speaker 9: Oh yeah, yeah, registered cheater.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah again, it's everybody ready to look at footage from
- 15:31Speaker 2: last time Phil actually cheated.
- 15:35Speaker 8: I I did not review the footage. I'm sorry now
- 15:37Speaker 8: I trusted you. Maxim on your side.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Christine, how we do it?
- 15:42Speaker 4: Walk the dog?
- 15:48Speaker 2: Just go ahead and reveal your answers. We have seth
- 15:53Speaker 2: saying ibex from or X. Christine says peacock, Tresa says
- 15:58Speaker 2: nil guy, and I'll see old Turkey Randall ORX, Ibex,
- 16:04Speaker 2: Matt Ibex.
- 16:05Speaker 4: What's that say?
- 16:07Speaker 2: Odd Dad? Cordy says ibex and aw Dad he crossed out,
- 16:10Speaker 2: ORX Max says ad Dad, ibecs Brent says ORX and
- 16:18Speaker 2: fallow deer. The three exotics are ORX, ibex and barbary
- 16:24Speaker 2: sheep or ad Dad sheep did pretty well on that.
- 16:29Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure you said ORX when we were talking
- 16:31Speaker 6: about New Zealand right before orcs ors.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Ye, same thing, I got you, Phil.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Barbaria sheep were the first of the exotics to be
- 16:44Speaker 2: introduced to New Mexico in the nineteen forties. Or X
- 16:48Speaker 2: followed in nineteen sixty nine, and Ibex in nineteen seventy. Today,
- 16:52Speaker 2: it's estimated New Mexico's ORX and aw Dad populations are
- 16:55Speaker 2: in the thousands. Well ibex are in the hundreds. Question
- 17:00Speaker 2: for the topic gear, Yeah, all right, said the last
- 17:06Speaker 2: one was barbary sheep or a Dad. I didn't realize
- 17:09Speaker 2: which a few of you had.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Question for the topic is gear. This company debuted their
- 17:15Speaker 2: first boat motor sixty years after making their first piano. Oh,
- 17:23Speaker 2: this company debuted their first boat moorder boat motor sixty
- 17:28Speaker 2: years after making their first piano, Seth, do you know
- 17:32Speaker 2: what I'm thinking of?
- 17:34Speaker 1: You can, but you can't turn a piano.
- 17:39Speaker 2: That that's exactly what they're doing.
- 17:43Speaker 1: What do you think of Max?
- 17:44Speaker 4: I don't want to say.
- 17:46Speaker 2: We have Max and Seth and Randall, who all appear
- 17:48Speaker 2: to be confident. Matt Corey, do you boys have this
- 17:50Speaker 2: one right?
- 17:52Speaker 1: Okay?
- 17:52Speaker 2: Brent do you have this one right?
- 17:54Speaker 4: Can you play a piano? Brent?
- 17:55Speaker 2: You look like you could play a piano.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Yeah. You know.
- 17:57Speaker 9: My dad was having heart surgery and before they weed
- 18:00Speaker 9: him in there, he asked the doctor before they put
- 18:02Speaker 9: him out, ask him if he'd be able to play
- 18:05Speaker 9: the piano when they got through with the surgery.
- 18:07Speaker 1: This is a true story. And doctor said, well, of
- 18:09Speaker 1: course you will. He said, good, because I always wanted to.
- 18:15Speaker 1: He wasn't scared.
- 18:17Speaker 2: That's good. So can you play a piano?
- 18:19Speaker 1: Bret?
- 18:21Speaker 2: You can play one, just not not well, oh yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 2: you don't want to listen to this company debuted their
- 18:27Speaker 2: first boat motor sixty years after making their first piano.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 18:36Speaker 2: have Seth and Christine saying Yamaha, Tressis says Hancock Randall
- 18:42Speaker 2: and Matt Say Yamaha. Corey says Mercury Max and Brent
- 18:48Speaker 2: Say Yamaha. They got it. The correct answer is Yamaha.
- 18:53Speaker 2: In the year nineteen hundred, Yamaha built the first ever
- 18:57Speaker 2: piano to be made in Japan, which was a small
- 19:00Speaker 2: bashing success. In nineteen sixty they released their first boat motor,
- 19:04Speaker 2: which wasn't met with as much praise. Early reviews said
- 19:08Speaker 2: you could tell it was created by an instrument company
- 19:11Speaker 2: because it made so much noise. In addition to those
- 19:14Speaker 2: two products, they also make motorcycles, drums, home appliances, computer parts,
- 19:19Speaker 2: golf cars, pontoons, and more. Question five, So they got
- 19:23Speaker 2: the motor thing though they're pretty good.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Are there any other boat motor companies that made pianos?
- 19:30Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't have the answer for I
- 19:32Speaker 2: don't know my piano as well. I'm curious.
- 19:34Speaker 4: I know one that makes lawnmar.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Okayrs. Cambridge Dictionary defines this bun as quote a piece
- 19:49Speaker 2: of dough cooked in steam and filled with meat or vegetables,
- 19:54Speaker 2: originally from China. Cambridge Dictionary defines this bun as quote
- 20:01Speaker 2: a piece of dough cooked in steam and filled with
- 20:04Speaker 2: meat or vegetables originally from China. This this question five,
- 20:09Speaker 2: we'll get a school board update from Fill the engineer
- 20:11Speaker 2: after this. Phil, do you have any Yamaha gear in
- 20:15Speaker 2: all of your audio equipment?
- 20:17Speaker 5: None?
- 20:18Speaker 8: But I have a Yamaha trombone. Oh, okay, Yamaha a legro.
- 20:23Speaker 8: Played it all through high school. Yeah, and you still
- 20:24Speaker 8: have a piece of equipment. Oh yeah, when's the last
- 20:26Speaker 8: time you got it out?
- 20:28Speaker 5: A couple months ago? Because my son started playing trombones?
- 20:32Speaker 2: How'd that sound when you got it out?
- 20:34Speaker 8: Was it like pretty bad for about a half hour,
- 20:36Speaker 8: and then after that it was still pretty bad, but
- 20:39Speaker 8: slightly better. It's just, you know, I lost all the
- 20:41Speaker 8: muscle memory, Phil, is there call it an ambusher?
- 20:43Speaker 3: Is there a slang term for playing the trumpet like
- 20:45Speaker 3: tickling the ivories for piano? Would you call it?
- 20:47Speaker 1: Like?
- 20:48Speaker 5: No, we can't say it on airlant.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Again, we're on question five. The topic is cooking. Cambridge
- 20:56Speaker 2: Dictionary defines this bun as a piece of dough hooked
- 21:00Speaker 2: in steam and filled with meat or vegetables, originally from China.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers? We
- 21:10Speaker 2: have seth saying dumpling. Christine says dumpling, Tressa says balbon,
- 21:16Speaker 2: Randall says bow, Matt says balbon, Corey says hot pocket,
- 21:22Speaker 2: Maxwell says perrogi, and Brent says dumpling. We have a
- 21:28Speaker 2: correct answer in the room. It's baubon. I think we
- 21:32Speaker 2: had Tressa, Randall, and Matt. Bao bons are typically filled
- 21:39Speaker 2: with pork, beef, chicken, mushrooms, or vegetables. One Chinese fable
- 21:43Speaker 2: tells of an army who needs to help who needs
- 21:46Speaker 2: the help of a god to cross a large river.
- 21:49Speaker 2: The deity wants the army to sacrifice soldiers, but the
- 21:52Speaker 2: general refuses. Instead, he tries to trick the god by
- 21:56Speaker 2: throwing bao buns in the river, which are meant to
- 21:58Speaker 2: look like human head. The deity isn't fooled, but it
- 22:02Speaker 2: does eat the buns and ends up loving them. So
- 22:04Speaker 2: the god helps the army anyway and parts the waters
- 22:07Speaker 2: for the men to cross. That's how good bow buns are. Phil,
- 22:11Speaker 2: We're halfway through the game of trivia, give us a
- 22:13Speaker 2: scoreboard update.
- 22:14Speaker 3: I would be remiss right now. Fight at interject and
- 22:17Speaker 3: say that Moshi food truck in Livingston has the best
- 22:19Speaker 3: bow buns on this side of the Mississippi.
- 22:21Speaker 2: You would be remissed if you didn't have that interruption.
- 22:25Speaker 8: Everybody has a point on the board. Christine and Treesa
- 22:27Speaker 8: have one, Brent, Corey and Max I'll have two points
- 22:31Speaker 8: a piece. Seth Morris has three, Matt has four. And
- 22:35Speaker 8: it's a perfect game. It's doing better than rand Doctor Randall.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Nobody start filming.
- 22:44Speaker 5: I got some bad news.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Question six. The topic is public lands. What is Arkansas's
- 22:55Speaker 2: only national park which is named after its geothermal features?
- 23:00Speaker 1: M M.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Looks like this will keep the perfect game going for
- 23:04Speaker 2: Randall based on how he's writing his answer. What is
- 23:08Speaker 2: Arkansas's only national park which is named after its geothermal features?
- 23:13Speaker 3: How many times must a beloved out of town visitor
- 23:18Speaker 3: play trivia before they no longer receive softballs?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Oh?
- 23:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what. I had this question created before
- 23:25Speaker 2: I even knew Brent would be here today. Brent, do
- 23:31Speaker 2: you have this one right?
- 23:32Speaker 1: If I don't, I will not be able to go
- 23:34Speaker 1: back home.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Okay, have you have you ever been to this place?
- 23:37Speaker 1: Many many minute times?
- 23:38Speaker 2: Okay, there's a hint if you know Brent Reeves. Well,
- 23:42Speaker 2: what is arkansas only National park which is named after
- 23:45Speaker 2: its geothermal features. Here, Maxwell is stumped the or Arkansas.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Okay, it's the lava.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Do they make a lawnmower?
- 24:05Speaker 2: What is Arkansas's only national park which is named after
- 24:08Speaker 2: it's geothermal features? Randall, tell me more about these bow
- 24:11Speaker 2: bonds off this field.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Oh my god, they're delightful. Every week they have a
- 24:14Speaker 3: different filling. They'll do goose and other kinds of sausage.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Cal frequently comes over to Livingston just to eat bow buns. Wow,
- 24:23Speaker 3: and the bun is perfectly. And then they also make
- 24:28Speaker 3: a burger that uses a bow bun sliced in half
- 24:31Speaker 3: as the as the bun for the bird.
- 24:32Speaker 8: How is the how's the how's the dough to meat ratio?
- 24:35Speaker 8: Because that's my biggest beef. With bow buns, it's usually
- 24:37Speaker 8: just a big bread with like a tiny little it's.
- 24:41Speaker 3: A hardy, golf ball sized. Okay, scoop of whatever filling is,
- 24:46Speaker 3: but honestly breathtaking.
- 24:48Speaker 4: You guys are making me hungry.
- 24:50Speaker 2: It was disappointing we didn't have a bow bonds recipe
- 24:52Speaker 2: on the website. We need to we need to get
- 24:54Speaker 2: that change.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Yeah, call Moshi. They have the best.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Does everyone have an answer? Shout out march PISA's only
- 25:01Speaker 2: national park. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 25:05Speaker 2: seth saying Ozark. Christine says Hot Springs. Tresa says Geyser.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Randall says Hot Springs.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Matt says that.
- 25:14Speaker 2: National park in Arkansas. Cory says Lava Cave. Maxwell says
- 25:20Speaker 2: Hot Springs. Brent says Hot Springs. The correct answer is
- 25:24Speaker 2: Hot Springs. That the room did very well.
- 25:27Speaker 4: That was a total guest.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Hot Springs National Park, which was referred to by tribes
- 25:32Speaker 2: as Valley of the Vapors, produces one million gallons of
- 25:36Speaker 2: heated water each day. Before it was a national park,
- 25:39Speaker 2: it was a popular hangout for mobsters such as Al
- 25:42Speaker 2: Capone and Frank Costello. They enjoyed soaking in the superior bathhouse,
- 25:47Speaker 2: which was later converted into the first and only brewery
- 25:51Speaker 2: in a national park. Brent, what do you do in
- 25:54Speaker 2: Hot Springs National Park? Do you do you soak in
- 25:56Speaker 2: the bathhouse there?
- 25:57Speaker 9: So there's a lot of bathhouses down through there. We
- 25:59Speaker 9: just go to if we're just like regular tours. When
- 26:01Speaker 9: we get there, probably less than an hour hour and
- 26:04Speaker 9: a half away from my home, and my wife and
- 26:07Speaker 9: daughter liked to shop.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And there's lots of.
- 26:09Speaker 9: Good restaurant here, but there's some there's some public fountains
- 26:12Speaker 9: when the hot water's coming out, and a lot of
- 26:15Speaker 9: mineral water that you can just you can take.
- 26:16Speaker 1: A jug down there and get it.
- 26:18Speaker 2: You fill it up.
- 26:19Speaker 1: But they're hot.
- 26:21Speaker 2: They say sometimes you need to live like a tourist
- 26:24Speaker 2: on your where you live. So, h yeah, I would
- 26:27Speaker 2: going to Hot Springs is for you.
- 26:28Speaker 9: I mean it's it's busy. It's a busy place down there.
- 26:30Speaker 9: Lots of folks year round going down there.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Question seven, the topic is woodsmanship.
- 26:35Speaker 4: I'm not going to Bozeman Hot Springs.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Tell you that.
- 26:37Speaker 2: This masculine word is defined as quote a cord or
- 26:42Speaker 2: string that is used to secure a tent or tarp
- 26:45Speaker 2: to the ground. This is question seven. The topic is woodsmanship,
- 26:52Speaker 2: and Randall is confident. Again this masculine word is defined
- 26:56Speaker 2: as quote a cord or string that is used to
- 27:00Speaker 2: secure a tent or tarp to the ground. Randall is
- 27:04Speaker 2: the only one with an answer so far. Do you
- 27:06Speaker 2: have an answer, Matt. Matt is also confident. We have
- 27:11Speaker 2: Brent and Seth join in them. A cord or string
- 27:15Speaker 2: that is used to secure a tent or tarp to
- 27:18Speaker 2: the ground.
- 27:19Speaker 3: It's gonna be using a lot of these.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Okay, I just restrung my TV last night. Probably touched
- 27:27Speaker 2: on Yeah.
- 27:29Speaker 4: String.
- 27:31Speaker 1: This close.
- 27:32Speaker 2: This masculine word is defined as a quarter or string
- 27:36Speaker 2: that is used to secure a tent or tarp to
- 27:39Speaker 2: the ground.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Oh.
- 27:41Speaker 2: You know what something we should talk about is today's
- 27:42Speaker 2: episode of Trivia came out. We had promised listeners that
- 27:46Speaker 2: there would be a nine to one one call of
- 27:49Speaker 2: a woman getting attacked by a chimp at the end
- 27:52Speaker 2: of the episode, and that didn't happen. What it didn't
- 27:55Speaker 2: make any.
- 27:56Speaker 8: Completely forgot to tack it on to the end, and
- 27:58Speaker 8: a spencer would like, I can tack it onto this
- 28:00Speaker 8: episode two weeks later we will that.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Oh, we will put it at the very end of
- 28:06Speaker 2: the episode. And like last time, Phil said that it
- 28:09Speaker 2: will come after I say goodbye and we hear Doug
- 28:13Speaker 2: Duran's little song about Trivia will play after that. So
- 28:15Speaker 2: you have plenty of time to shut off the podcast
- 28:18Speaker 2: if you don't want to hear the phone call. It
- 28:19Speaker 2: is very morbid and is a woman being attacked by
- 28:23Speaker 2: a chimp.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Doesn't that sound horrible?
- 28:26Speaker 8: Christine the day changer, Yeah, don't listen to it unless
- 28:30Speaker 8: you want to feel a certain way.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Day change. I never heard that one.
- 28:34Speaker 8: Well, we use it in a different contexts in college.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Okay, that you're you're right, that's uh, this would be
- 28:41Speaker 2: a day changer. And I got it approved by Steve
- 28:43Speaker 2: Rannella himself to put it on the podcast. It will
- 28:46Speaker 2: come at the very very end, she survives. Hr is
- 28:50Speaker 2: asking the important questions, does everybody have an answer?
- 28:57Speaker 3: And required to transport?
- 28:59Speaker 2: Previously I had I said it was entertaining. That's that's
- 29:03Speaker 2: the wrong way to describe it. Interesting. I wouldn't say
- 29:07Speaker 2: it's entertaining. What disturbing? Exactly? It's everybody ready, Max, I
- 29:15Speaker 2: think you're running out of time. Go ahead and reveal
- 29:18Speaker 2: your answers. We have seth saying guide. Christine says man rope,
- 29:23Speaker 2: Tresa says stud Randall says guyline, Matt says guyline, Corey
- 29:29Speaker 2: says parachord. Max without an answer, Brent says guy wire.
- 29:34Speaker 2: The correct answer is guyline, guy rope or guy Weier.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Had about half of our players get that one right.
- 29:45Speaker 2: The word guyline comes from the French word uh g
- 29:49Speaker 2: u I E. I don't know how you pronounced that, Phil,
- 29:51Speaker 2: What do you think it is?
- 29:52Speaker 1: Guy?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Gee okay, from the French word gee, which means to
- 29:57Speaker 2: guide something. Guylines are often used by outdoorsmen on boats
- 30:01Speaker 2: and tents, but are also used on wind turbines, skyscrapers,
- 30:05Speaker 2: telephone poles, and radio towers. The ideal guideline not creates tension,
- 30:10Speaker 2: but is also easily adjustable.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I'm not gonna.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I always thought it was guideline for real.
- 30:16Speaker 9: That's I thought it wrong, Like I pronounced most everybody wrong,
- 30:20Speaker 9: my whole.
- 30:21Speaker 3: I like the trucker's hitch.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Easy for a guideline.
- 30:25Speaker 1: There you go.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Question eight. The topic is conservation. What does the Federal
- 30:29Speaker 2: Agency b oh R stand for? The topic is conservation?
- 30:37Speaker 2: What does the Federal Agency b oh.
- 30:41Speaker 1: R stand for?
- 30:44Speaker 2: Looks like Randall will keep the perfect game going through
- 30:47Speaker 2: eight questions. He looks confident. I think, God, I think
- 30:53Speaker 2: we need we need Matt and probably Seth to get
- 30:57Speaker 2: this one right, to have anybody keep pace with Randal.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Otherwise this maybe a runaway victory and we're just looking
- 31:03Speaker 2: out for the one thousand dollars donation. At that point, I'm.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Just trying to beat the Shelby index.
- 31:10Speaker 1: True.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer to what the federal agency
- 31:14Speaker 2: b O R stands for?
- 31:21Speaker 6: Hopefully you're not trying to pull faster on us.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Knows it.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I think i'd do that, Max. Maybe Christine, are you
- 31:28Speaker 2: ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We have seth
- 31:32Speaker 2: saying Bureau of Reclamation. Christine says, Bureau of Restoration. Tresa
- 31:38Speaker 2: says Bureau of Restoration. Randall Bureau of Reclamation. Met Bureau
- 31:45Speaker 2: of Reclamation, Corey with the same answer, Max with the
- 31:50Speaker 2: same answer, couple of letters. Brandon says, Bureau Oceanic Research.
- 31:59Speaker 2: The correct answer is Bureau of Reclamation. I think we
- 32:03Speaker 2: had about half the room. Get that one right. The
- 32:06Speaker 2: Bureau of Reclamation is a federal agency within the Department
- 32:09Speaker 2: of the Interior. They oversee water resource management across much
- 32:14Speaker 2: of the West. They bring water to thirty one million people,
- 32:17Speaker 2: making them the country's largest wholesaler of water. Their reservoirs
- 32:21Speaker 2: and canals are responsible for irrigating sixty percent of America's
- 32:26Speaker 2: vegetables and twenty five percent of its fruit and nuts.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Phil we have two questions left. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 32:35Speaker 8: Uh, let's see here, Tresa, Christine, Max, Cory, Seth and Brant.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Are all out of their running for the wind.
- 32:45Speaker 4: How many points do we have?
- 32:46Speaker 8: Well, you can look at the board up here. I
- 32:48Speaker 8: guess I should say I was trying. I was trying
- 32:50Speaker 8: to spare you. Max has two, Seth has four, Corey
- 32:55Speaker 8: has three, Max and Brenda four. But we've got Matt
- 32:57Speaker 8: with six and he can technically still catch up. Randa
- 33:00Speaker 8: falls flat on his facer. Randall has eight points.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Maybe just take a nap for a.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Little bit, nine trumpeter. The topic is fishing. This is
- 33:11Speaker 2: our listener question of the Week, which was won by
- 33:13Speaker 2: Matt Collum for sending this great question. Matt is going
- 33:15Speaker 2: to get a board game signed by the crew. If
- 33:18Speaker 2: you want a chance to win the Listener Question of
- 33:19Speaker 2: the Week, then send your question to Trivia at the
- 33:22Speaker 2: medeater dot com. Name three of the five states that
- 33:27Speaker 2: steelhead are native to according to the US Fish and
- 33:31Speaker 2: Wildlife Service see Jesus Spitzer three of the five.
- 33:38Speaker 7: Mm.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Name three of the five states that steelhead are native
- 33:42Speaker 2: to according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Randal,
- 33:45Speaker 2: do you have this one?
- 33:46Speaker 1: Right? I do?
- 33:48Speaker 2: If you had to, could you name all five I
- 33:50Speaker 2: could Okay, that is a confident player over there, I
- 33:54Speaker 2: can name a couple.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Uh hatchery, steelhead.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Okay, that's a that's a clue, states brands. How do
- 34:01Speaker 2: you feel about your answer?
- 34:03Speaker 1: Not?
- 34:04Speaker 2: Well, do do you think you're in the right part
- 34:05Speaker 2: of the country. I think I'm confident in that three
- 34:10Speaker 2: of the five states that steelhead are native to. And
- 34:13Speaker 2: this is according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
- 34:18Speaker 3: You should put down Canada, Randall a confusion.
- 34:22Speaker 1: What's the state of confusion?
- 34:24Speaker 3: Probes?
- 34:30Speaker 2: Christine has asked Seth if steel had go to the ocean.
- 34:43Speaker 2: The answer Randal is it? Excuse me? Max is trying
- 34:47Speaker 2: to give a head motion to Christine. It's a helper,
- 34:51Speaker 2: not a non or who's making a large circle. It
- 34:54Speaker 2: looks like.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Hawaii Big Island.
- 35:03Speaker 4: I don't even know if I got right, to be honest.
- 35:04Speaker 1: The wrong way.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Is everybody ready?
- 35:12Speaker 4: We can help her.
- 35:14Speaker 5: She's gonna list.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Then why are we doing this?
- 35:24Speaker 2: Okay, I think she just said one.
- 35:30Speaker 4: She gotation start from start crossing.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Just need three of them.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Answer.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying Alaska, Oregon, Washington.
- 35:43Speaker 2: He wrote down to in small print, which are not
- 35:46Speaker 2: his answers, but says Idaho and California. Christine says California, Oregon,
- 35:52Speaker 2: and Washington. She crossed out Michigan. Mainerea says Alaska, Washington.
- 35:59Speaker 2: I don't Randall, Alaska, Washington, Organ, Matt Washington, Idaho, Organ,
- 36:07Speaker 2: Corey Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Max Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Brent Washington, Idaho, Organ.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I think everybody got it right. The correct answers are Alaska, California, Idaho, Oregon,
- 36:25Speaker 2: and Washington. A one hundred percenter for the room. Steelhead
- 36:30Speaker 2: are listed as threatened or in dangered across much of
- 36:33Speaker 2: their native range. The Wild Steelhead Coalition sums up their
- 36:37Speaker 2: greatest threats with the five hs. That's habitat, harvest, hatcheries,
- 36:43Speaker 2: hydro power, and heat. Steelhead populations were already in decline
- 36:48Speaker 2: by the year nineteen fifty and have gone down another
- 36:50Speaker 2: fifty percent since then. Randall is our winner at this point,
- 36:54Speaker 2: but we're gonna see if you can get the perfect
- 36:56Speaker 2: game and double the double. The donation from Meat Eater
- 36:59Speaker 2: from five hundre one thousand dollars is question ten. The
- 37:06Speaker 2: topic is hunting, and this last great question is via
- 37:09Speaker 2: Josh Youngt. The National Deer Association says this nine letter
- 37:14Speaker 2: orange colored fruit is quote one of the most highly
- 37:18Speaker 2: sought after soft mass species for deer. Randal is the
- 37:24Speaker 2: slowest he's come up with an answer yet. The topic
- 37:27Speaker 2: is hunting. The National Deer Association says this nine letter
- 37:32Speaker 2: orange colored fruit is quote one of the most highly
- 37:36Speaker 2: sought after soft masked species for deer. Do you have
- 37:43Speaker 2: an answer down, Randall?
- 37:44Speaker 7: I don't.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I don't, okay.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Do you have some ideas? I can picture it, you
- 37:48Speaker 2: can picture it, okay.
- 37:50Speaker 3: But the words that are coming to mind do not
- 37:52Speaker 3: have nine letters.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Wow?
- 37:54Speaker 3: Spell it wrong?
- 37:54Speaker 1: I usually do.
- 37:55Speaker 2: It looks like oh wow, Okay. There's there's a couple
- 37:58Speaker 2: confident players in the room, but we're not going to
- 38:00Speaker 2: give Randall anymore hints about what it could be. Nine
- 38:04Speaker 2: letter orange colored fruit that is one of the most
- 38:07Speaker 2: highly sought after soft mass species for deer. Nine Max
- 38:18Speaker 2: has a nine letter answer, Randall, how.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Do you feel like your I feel pretty good.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Put a percentage on it. What percentage is it that
- 38:26Speaker 2: you have it?
- 38:26Speaker 1: Right?
- 38:30Speaker 3: If we're going to go down, We're gonna go down
- 38:32Speaker 3: in flames. So I'm going to say one n.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Chance that he has it right, and if he does,
- 38:38Speaker 2: meat Eater will double the donation to a conservation group.
- 38:42Speaker 9: First trivia game I was ever on, Spencer says, how
- 38:45Speaker 9: do you feel?
