- 0:12we have cricket reports on Folkston, Hawkins High, Hythe Green, silt Wood
- 0:19and Sipton Park as the weather was kind to all our cricket matches at the
- 0:22weekend. During the week I caught up with senior event manager Sarah Jane Winding
- 0:31ahead of Sunday's cancer research Race for Life. So I'll be planning out our
- 0:35interview and our special guests today are Chris and Jody from c H Tennis and
- 0:47maybe were telling us all about the world of tennis coaching in our area,
- 0:52and no day I'll find a few random local sporty snippets to chuck in.
- 1:00So let's get this show on the roads with the Commitments and Mustang Sally.
- 1:21What a great way to start a show there, the Commitments and Mustang Sally.
- 1:25Okay, now I'm joined now by Chris Hollins and Jody Wood from c
- 1:30H Tennis. Good morning, Chrish and On. Let's just put some sound
- 1:34up there we go. Let's start get Hello Chris, how are you good?
- 1:38And Jody? How are you yeah. Really well, Now, I
- 1:41can't believe it's been a year Chris since he was in. It's almost to
- 1:45the week to the day actually. But last time you came in at the
- 1:48Academy school, you were on one leg and you hopped in very bravely.
- 1:56So how was the injury? What was your remind us of the operation was?
- 2:00Or he was a knee realignment at tibial transferal transfer, so it was
- 2:07a realignment and a slight shaving of the telor for some Maarth writis Yeah,
- 2:14all right, and your recovery, I know it's been a year, but
- 2:16it went smoothly. All's going well. I'm still having a few leaps forwards
- 2:23and a couple of knocks back every now and again, but I'm getting I'm
- 2:25getting there. Yeah, yeah, good. Is he still running around the
- 2:30kitchen, Jody, I mean as much as ever? Good good. It's
- 2:36good to see that you're back and raring to go. So, so,
- 2:39first of all, let's just recap your roles at c H Tennis. Now,
- 2:43I've been on the website and it really is growing, isn't it.
- 2:46And so so Chris, what's your your main function? So I'm I'm head
- 2:51coach of a few sites now, so I look after the coaching, the
- 2:53on court day to day with the team of coaches, and I get to
- 3:02enjoy myself. Yeah, okay, and jo So I'm coaching coordinator kind of
- 3:09most of the time, and I'm also an assistant coach, so I help
- 3:14kind of idea with the booking side of things, admin school liaison, coordinate
- 3:19our team of coaches, and then when I'm lucky, I get to go
- 3:22on court and help the coaches. Yeah. So you're a bit more of
- 3:25a behind the scenes coach. Yeah, and that's it, right, keep
- 3:28the wheels burning the industry right now, your big big venue, if you
- 3:34like, is down a hive. But it looks like you've got some other
- 3:37places you go to, is that right, Chris. Yeah, we're spreading
- 3:42across across the area, but we're looking to try and create the swell of
- 3:46tennis and increase the tennis population in the area. Yeah. So how far
- 3:53do you go? So? Why is we go from Margaret's over in Dover
- 3:58and we've recently taken on some coaching responsibilities in the lid okay lid all right,
- 4:03So whereabouts is that in a school or it's the bank's site is it's
- 4:10been a real regeneration of the existing courts that they had, but they've had
- 4:15a big investment recently and what have they got down there is a couple of
- 4:18courts or just the one three hard courts and it's on the same site as
- 4:23the cricket clob Ah. Right, excellent. That's good for the people down
- 4:26lid. Yeah, excellent. Good and so me Jody, you're sort of
- 4:33behind the scenes more so. But I mean the booking now does it?
- 4:38I think I've noticed since things have gone digitals, you're still digital. It
- 4:42does help you don't have to keep phonding your people back. Do they book
- 4:45up on Yeah? All our booking is online, so the website, the
- 4:48h Tennis tells you all you need to know. But I'll always pick up
- 4:51the phone or an email and help with the booking system because it's you know,
- 4:56we know the technology, the best way plans. But I'm always still
- 4:59the So it's very it's very personal, and't I get to lure a lot
- 5:01of the families because they're regular booking, So it's really nice. Right,
- 5:04Okay, Well, what I'm going to do now is it going to play
- 5:08a little record with you did have one request that you wanted us to play.
- 5:11You couldn't find and it's a bit tough trying to find some tennis songs.
- 5:15But I found this little song that my if we put tennis racket instead
- 5:20of rhythm stick in, I think people don't understand where we're coming from.
- 5:42Well that was indrury there, and we were pretending that the rhythm stick was
- 5:47a tennis racket. That was the closest we could get. Okay, now
- 5:50joined back in the studio by Chris and Jody. So Christian has come back
- 5:56to you. We've I've got down here a few little things, but start
- 6:00once again with the basics. How old are the children that you you teach?
- 6:04What sort of age groups do we Well, some of the youngest,
- 6:08some of the youngest we've got the program are four years old. And there's
- 6:15no limit to tennis goes all the way through there. I ask you this,
- 6:19what is the most senior player you've got? I don't ask I'm not
- 6:24going to situation customer. There are definitely players that hide in their eighties,
- 6:30are they? Yeah? Yeah, that's great. Yeah, And these they
- 6:34just have interest because certainly, I've been involved with a lot of running and
- 6:39find that there are several people that come into running late in life, whereas
- 6:45I've been running normal life, and they do some fantastic times. So these
- 6:47people that come in in their eighties in tennis, have they been playing all
- 6:53their life or have they come in late? So there was a study with
- 6:58the l t A that showed that some players that dropped out the age of
- 7:01eighteen would return back at the age of forty to forty five. So and
- 7:06then they stay a little bit longer within tennis. But there is a bit
- 7:10of a gap, yeah, in that bit between eighteen to forty. And
- 7:13are they I mean they talk about tennis elbow, but are there sort of
- 7:15common injuries that tennis players pick up, you know, like dodgynes and yeah,
- 7:21my dodging needs. There's a tennis toe. I've heard of a tennis
- 7:25toe. Okay, Joey, just while we're on that subject. You do
- 7:30actually play yourself when you can. I do now. I haven't been a
- 7:35tennis player for long. It's always been Chris's thing, but over recent years
- 7:40I play for fun and play more regularly now And I get it now,
- 7:45Yet your hooks are you? Yeah? Googe? Right? So the sort
- 7:50of things that you do. We've got the age of classes, but I
- 7:55understand you do other things, Jody. You will tell us about the schools
- 7:59initiative that you get up to. Yep. So we work with several local
- 8:03schools. We're working at the moment with the Beacon with Mandela in Folks in
- 8:09primary. We're doing many schools, but one that we're really proud of is
- 8:13Mandela. So we've been coaching Mandela for quite a few years now, breakfast
- 8:18clubs for the children, curriculum coaching and after school clubs and actually because of
- 8:24their commitment to tennis, we put them forward for Kent School of the Year,
- 8:28which we went to the awards with them and they won, which was
- 8:31amazing. Then they got put forward to Regional School of the Year which they
- 8:35won. So now they're actually through to LTA National School of the Year for
- 8:39their commitment to tennis and that's obviously a MESSI y a huge achievement. And
- 8:45is there a prison evening for that one? Yep. So they'll be invited
- 8:48along to ear Grass tournament, is that right, Chris, yep, yeah,
- 8:52and there'll be a presentation there. So yeah, it's a really big
- 8:54achievement for the school and the kids are really excited about tennis and it's part
- 8:58of their school life right now. When you go into the school, do
- 9:01you have to take all your own like equipment or do the schools provide that
- 9:07We mainly take our own. It varies. Some schools have a good bulk
- 9:09of equipment there, but we generally take our own so that we know what
- 9:13we've got and what we're working with. Yeah, and if you like,
- 9:18then why is Mandela You know, is it just because of the range of
- 9:22kids now that you've got They are just so enthusiastic about tennis. It's the
- 9:24combination of the kids and the staff's commitment. So the school have basically made
- 9:30a pledge to commit. You know, funding is tight for schools, but
- 9:33they've allocated funding to us. They bring the kids to tournaments and they've just
- 9:39embraced it as a school. They're a real tennis school now, brilliant,
- 9:43excellent. It's funny because in schools it's nice to hear that you're getting into
- 9:48schools because it's one sport. I don't know that in the past, perhaps
- 9:52is there's been a little a little niche for you to get in but yeah,
- 9:56fair place you're bringing tennis to. The people are folks and they are
- 10:00do also a half term you get up to some hairy old stunt side by
- 10:05the look of it, a half term with these holiday camps, so tell
- 10:07us about those. So our holiday camps are for children at age four.
- 10:11We run them at highs. We're running them at Saint Margaret's. We try
- 10:15to run it focused and when we can. But the weather isn't always on
- 10:18our side. But our team of coaches are brilliant and they'll use when there's
- 10:24indoors space available. They'll do games and quizzes. And we had kids designing
- 10:28tennis kits, so even when the weather's bad, there's always something right.
- 10:33And do the kids really let you onto it? You know, like when
- 10:35we Wooden comes along, they really get to know the players and the heroes.
- 10:39Are they or does it go over the head a bit? It's a
- 10:41bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes it's more the parents, but the kids
- 10:46that are really passionate about it will really get into it. Great. And
- 10:50so else have we go? Oh? Yes, now is there for the
- 10:54children a competitive side? It sounds like, you know, you all have
- 10:58fun playing tennis down there. But if you get you know, someone that
- 11:01wants to prove of sales, is there a league or competition that they can
- 11:03go into. So for the leagues we enter as a club. So Hielan
- 11:09Tennis Club has got at the moment we've got an under fourteen's boys and girls
- 11:13team and an under six teams boys and girls team and in fact one of
- 11:18the teams are playing this weekend. The girls under fourteens are playing the Kent
- 11:24the National Kent League are playing Mepham. So good luck to Florence and Lily
- 11:31this weekend. Brilliant Florence Lily. What lovely two old fashioned names. They're
- 11:35lovely. Yeah, I love that. Yeah, we should have more of
- 11:37those. And so you say National Kent League, that could be anywhere in
- 11:43Kent. Yeah. So we know that people are busy and lives are busy.
- 11:48So Kent Tennis have put together a day of tennis where they get to
- 11:54play, where teams get to play against a variety of teams. So on
- 11:58this occasion we know that they're going to be playing against oak Wood, Meper
- 12:03and Twist Fizz as well all mid Kent teams. It's just the name of
- 12:09the club twist fizz, All right, where did they hang out? Then?
- 12:13It's middle of Kent. That's the only information I hold on them at
- 12:16the moment. Oh no, that sounds really really good. And again I
- 12:22suppose you outdoors. You've got hope for the weather. Yep, fingers crossed
- 12:24for the weather this weekend. But it should be okay, yeah, okay,
- 12:28brilliant. So it was we got Now. I picked up on your
- 12:33Facebook page that there was a couple of weeks or awareness days or weeks that
- 12:39you did. One was a French open and one was a mental health So
- 12:43tell us about that. What what did you have people come in from these
- 12:46from the mental health and give you a talk? No, we didn't,
- 12:50but mental health is something I'm really really passionate about. The benefits of sport
- 12:54we all know are really widely known. And this week's mental health awareness was
- 13:00Movement for your Mental Health. So it was the perfect chance for us to
- 13:03invite people to have a go. A lot of people might think tennis is
- 13:07not accessible for them, or the tennis club isn't for them, so we
- 13:11wanted to offer like a really casual, friendly open dropping session. A lot
- 13:16of our members were there. They brought delicious cakes, we had tea and
- 13:20we just had a really nice friendly knock up on the courts and it was
- 13:24just a really nice opportunity for people who wouldn't normally get together to play to
- 13:26do so. So it's really good. That's good. So every time there
- 13:33is a like a big Grand Slam tournament, we run an LTA Team Challenge.
- 13:39So this is competition, but it's really fun, friendly competition within our
- 13:43clubs. So children from all our venues, so Folks and High Hawkin's,
- 13:48that Margaret's, our schools will get invited to come along for the morning and
- 13:52they do a range of challenges like we had building Eiffel towers on your racquets
- 13:58and you know, just seened challenges. We put on some themed food,
- 14:03there's panelsholave and they just compete in teams for points and they will get a
- 14:07medal. It's fun, excellent. So what else I was going to ask
- 14:13you? Oh yeah, so, I mean I've seen the facilities down at
- 14:18the grove from a distance, But can you suppose a parent wants to bring
- 14:22his or her child down to the high tennis place there? Just describe what
- 14:30you've got down there. Tell me about all the facilities, Chris. The
- 14:33facilities are high ver incredible. We're really lucky to have a supportive committee that
- 14:37are forward thinkers that are moving on to the next project. So at the
- 14:43moment, we've got eight courts down there, and we've just had a refer
- 14:48of four of the courts that we've now got four tiger turf courts, which
- 14:52are artificial grass courts and they're quite robust in in the wet weather and the
- 14:56frosts. So we're going to be on court a lot more going forwards.
- 15:01That's brilliant. Eight courts, Yeah, fantastic, and I bet a lot
- 15:05of people out there don't know that. So parents, if your child chose
- 15:09any interesting tennis then please please get in touch. Jody, you were turning
- 15:15me off. You've got a little open day coming up, is that right?
- 15:18We do. So we have just started working with a great organization called
- 15:22Bright Tideas for Tennis and they are all about making tennis inclusive. So they
- 15:28came and delivered some disability tennis training with us. We're working through them with
- 15:31the Beacon School delivering amazing sessions. But inclusive tennis needs funding, so they
- 15:39are coming down and we are hosting at high a charity fundraising funday. So
- 15:45they will be running coaching clinics for all ages, so right from the little
- 15:50ones to adults. They bring down two ex Davis Cup players and they'll do
- 15:54an exhibition match. They'll play against highest players, but it's going to be
- 15:58opened to everyone. We'll have barbecues, we'll have raffles, we'll have stalls.
- 16:04It'll be an amazing day. That's going to be on Sunday, the
- 16:08eighth of September, right, yes, so look out for that. We'll
- 16:12do lots of advertising. But that's going to be a really good opportunity if
- 16:17you haven't played for a while, or if you've got kids that might be
- 16:19interested, that could give them a real taster. They don't have to be
- 16:23members for that, and that will help raise some money for all our inclusive
- 16:27tennis going forward, so whether that's equipment, coaching, accessibility, and that
- 16:33will be amazing going forward. So it sounds like a really good day out
- 16:37and I think a bit nearer the time, you must perhaps come in or
- 16:40send us a little report just what's coming up again, that'd be great.
- 16:44That's really put the word out there. Okay, so now I think,
- 16:48is there anything else you want to cover before we go looking at her notes,
- 16:56just I think there are anything that we're really excited about that we haven't
- 16:59spoken about. Is we're getting some walking tennis going. So we know walking
- 17:03football is quite popular now and we're working with Age UK, We're working with
- 17:10the High Dementia Forum and with Pebbles down that lid and we're going to get
- 17:14dementia tennis going across as many venues as we can walk in tennis. That's
- 17:19accessible for those who want to get into tennis but a bit worried about it
- 17:25being fast pace or maybe in recovery or yeah, I just need it out
- 17:29a bit slow a pace. Well, once again, once you get that
- 17:32underway, and then please please drop us a line and we can spread the
- 17:34word. Okay. So I think we've covered everything and it's so good to
- 17:38have you back in again. And I want people to realize out there on
- 17:41radio focused on Land that these two people have got a passion for tennis and
- 17:47they're spreading it amongst their youngsters so that the game, you know, carries
- 17:52on and continues and that youngsters it's not just football and cricket. There's loads
- 17:56of other sports out there, and I think tennis has been a bit overlooks
- 18:00in recent years at in our area, but thanks to Jody and christ here,
- 18:03it sounds like it's really on the app. So how can people get
- 18:07in touch? So first and foremost I would head to our websitech tennis dot
- 18:11co dot UK. Lots of info on there, our social media as well
- 18:15ch Tennis, or you can email coaching at high Tennis dot com and I'll
- 18:19pick that up and get in touch. Brilliant. There you go, everybody,
- 18:22So there's no excuses now and we will keep close contact with Jody and
- 18:26Chris and tell you all what's coming along. So thank you Christopher coming in.
- 18:30It's really been good. Hopefully old recovers the recovery stays well. And
- 18:33thank you Jody for being the lady behind the scenes that keeps all the wheels
- 18:37in motion. Thank you Govin. How is there? It ended a bit
- 18:52sharpish and't it nearly called me out? Okay? Anyway, massive thank you
- 18:56to christ and Jody there for coming in and the passion and for tennis is
- 19:00rubbing off on the town of Folkston. Now is that time of year when
- 19:06race for Life comes to Folkston. And during the week I caught up with
- 19:10a lady who has the job event manager for the day. It's a massive,
- 19:14awesome day. So let's have a little listen to what we chatting about.
- 19:18Well, I'm up on the Lees in Folkston and I'm joined by Sarah
- 19:19Jane Winding from Cancer Research UK. Good morning, Sarah, how are you?
- 19:22Good morning? I'm very well, thank you. How are you lovely?
- 19:26Yeah? I really well and I'm so good to see you. Now
- 19:29tell us what your role is in Cancer Research UK. So I am one
- 19:33of the Senior area event managers for the teams. We've got a large event
- 19:38team that split into divisions and I sit in the South South division as one
- 19:41of the Senior area event managers. And there's a big event coming up on
- 19:45Sunday, and that's why we're here today, isn't it exactly? Yes,
- 19:48we've got folks and Race for Life this Sunday great. So at the moment
- 19:55it's nice and quiet and calm and peaceful, But on Sunday that'll all change,
- 20:00won't it. So how many of you expecting up here on Sunday?
- 20:03Yeah, so we're hoping it's going to be a little bit busier than this.
- 20:06We're expecting over on thy about eleven hundred across the across all three events.
- 20:12So yeah, a lot busier than it is now. Yeah, right,
- 20:17so tell us about tell us about Race for Life and what's going to
- 20:21happen on the day, how many runs are there, and just tell us
- 20:23all about it. Yeah. So there's three races that take part here,
- 20:27three distances. So we have a three k, a five k and a
- 20:30ten k here at Folkston and they all go off at the same time.
- 20:33So they all set off at ten thirty. They all head down the lees
- 20:40towards the memorial turn back and our ten kres drop down zig zagers. Some
- 20:45of our return in ten kres, I'm sure we'll remember them are probably cursingly
- 20:48for drop down, zigzag, head up towards Sangate, turn around, back
- 20:52up the dread and zigzag and then to finish here along the lees. Right,
- 20:57Okay, so now it's called Race for Life, but you don't have
- 21:03to race it, do you No, No, yeah, absolutely not.
- 21:07It's it's non competitive. You can walk, you can jog, you can
- 21:11run. You know, it's a family event. You can take part with
- 21:14your loved ones and stroll it if you like, or you can do it
- 21:18more competitively. Actually, a good point to note for this year, which
- 21:22is new, is our ten k is being chip timed for the first time.
- 21:27So for those more competitive runners that do want to you know, get
- 21:30their PBS or are really keen to know what their finished finished time is.
- 21:36Yeah, we're actually chip time in there. Yeah, it's a first for
- 21:41folks, and they've tried it in a couple of other events, but it's
- 21:44been so successful and the feedback is that our ten k participants like that.
- 21:48Again, they don't have to be runners though, but yeah, so we've
- 21:51rolled it out across all of our ten k's right across the board now.
- 21:55Years ago and it does seem like years ago it used to be ladies only
- 21:57and we changed it to a family event, and I think at first a
- 22:02lot of ladies were perhaps, you know, it wasn't quite the right thing
- 22:07to do. But it's proved successful, isn't it. Yeah, it has
- 22:10and no one really likes change, do they. So yeah, you know,
- 22:15some people are a little bit put out to start with, but I
- 22:17think it's so important because it is a family event and everyone's affected. It's
- 22:21not just women that are affected so and it makes it so much more inclusive.
- 22:26And like I said, already, for families to now be able to
- 22:30take part or to take part with your brother or your dad or your husband,
- 22:33just meant so much to us to make that change, and I think
- 22:37it's I think it's worked brilliantly. You're right. And now on the day
- 22:41in the past, for the past twenty odd years, we've had a lovely
- 22:45lady doing the warm up. Now, is that a lovely lady coming this
- 22:48year? Yes, Yes, we've got Joe Thompson coming back to do our
- 22:52Well, She's done it every year that I've been here, which is ten
- 22:55years, so I think Joe's been doing it. Think he started. Joe
- 22:57and I have been here since day one. We're part of the furniture.
- 23:02We've got Cob waves all over us. But yeah, Joe is fantastic.
- 23:07She brings a great team with along with her and then she jumps down and
- 23:11runs. No, she runs it every year. She's amazing. No,
- 23:14we wouldn't have it any other way. I wouldn't want anyone else do in
- 23:15the Walmart. No. Great. Now, when it comes down to entries,
- 23:21how can people enter so they can still enter online at Race Forlife dot
- 23:26org. They can still enter this week. The later they enter, they
- 23:29just might not receive their running pack in the post, but they can collect
- 23:32their running pack from the admin marquee on the day. And people can actually
- 23:37also sign up on the day. So if you think you've left it too
- 23:40late, and you wake up on Sunday morning and think I really fancy that
- 23:42you can come down and sign up, just give yourself enough time because there
- 23:47may be a bit of a queue at the admin marquee. Leave yourself enough
- 23:49time to get down and sign up, right they're talking about signing up.
- 23:53Another great thing that people might want to do when they get here is volunteer.
- 23:57Yes, so how do you think to volunteers. Yeah, so,
- 24:00we literally couldn't run our events without our volunteers. They do all of our
- 24:04marshaling for us. They hand out the water and the medals at the end,
- 24:07They help us set up in the morning. Absolutely vital for us.
- 24:12We are a bit low on the ground. Actually we're quite low on the
- 24:15ground. We do tend to be in folks, and we struggle. The
- 24:19team that we do have come along always absolutely amazing. And I've got some
- 24:23volunteers coming back this year that joined us last year, So that's sad that
- 24:26we could absolutely do with some more to make sure the course is safe,
- 24:30to make sure the water is handed out at the water stations, really important
- 24:34roles. So if you're at a loose end or if you can't take part
- 24:38but you want to help in another way, that is a great way of
- 24:41helping out. And again people can sign up online at racefulife dot org for
- 24:45that, or you can just rock up on the day come to our volunteer
- 24:49ten Big Blue one and we'll sign you up on the day And what sort
- 24:52of time that spend would you allow for volunteers to get here? So I
- 24:56mean if anyone can do just an hour at some point during the day would
- 25:00be helpful. But our volunteers arrive about nine am, about nine nine thirty,
- 25:06and we're expecting our last participant across the line about one thirty. But
- 25:08like I say, if you could come down and just help for an hour,
- 25:11it would be helpful. Okay, Well, well it's looking like it's
- 25:15going to be a fantastic day. I mean, it is nice and calm
- 25:18here and the weather forecast does look pretty pretty steady, which is what we
- 25:21want. We've done it too hot. We've come across all sorts of weather
- 25:25conditions here in folks, and haven't we bailing hot? The rain, the
- 25:30wind. That's for a good one this year. Yeah, it's looking okay,
- 25:33it's looking okay at the moment. Okay, Now there's anything else you
- 25:36want to add to No, I think the only other thing we haven't mentioned
- 25:40is the fundraising, because it's just important to stress to people so that they
- 25:45understand the cost of the sign up for the event actually just just puts on
- 25:52the event and the structures and the infrastructures. It's the just puts on the
- 25:56event itself. It's the fundraising that people do that goes directly towards towards the
- 26:00science and the research. And yes, the only other thing is just allow
- 26:04yourself plenty of time to get here on Sunday. There's no specific parking for
- 26:08this event, so people that are local will know the lees and know the
- 26:12areas anyway, and we do close a couple of roads around the lees,
- 26:17So just allow yourself enough time to park where you need to park, or
- 26:19get your public transport in or stroll up to us. The be a lovely
- 26:23day for a walk. Yes, yes, okay, Sarah, thanks so
- 26:26much for taking the time to speak to us today. It's going to be
- 26:30a fantastic day and we're looking for a really big turnout. Yes, so
- 26:34we see you on Sunday. Yes, thanks ever so much. Thank you.
- 26:37So that was Sarah Jane Winding. They're telling us all about Race for
- 26:40Life and the one thing she did mention that we could always do with more
- 26:44volunteers. I mean, if you're not doing anything Sunday morning, just come
- 26:48along. You could be marshaling, giving out water medals, just generally helping
- 26:52out. There's jobs, they're not difficult and it all helps the making the
- 26:56day go a lot smoother. As Sarah said, we're expecting over a thousand
- 26:59pe to take part. So if you come along about nine nine thirty,
- 27:03as she said, make your way to the admin tent, make yourself known
- 27:07and we'll give you a job. Okay, see you all on Sunday.
- 27:11In the meantime, here's some scouting for girls as famous there for scouting for
- 27:25girls. Okay, time for a local cricket scores, So let's start with
- 27:29Folkston. The first eleven traveled to Bromley to play Old Wilsonians. They won
- 27:33the toss, batted first and made three hundred and fourteen for six. Chinmesuta,
- 27:38who was just too short of his century a couple of weeks ago,
- 27:41went one better and made one hundred and twelve. Then Stuart Graham made eighty
- 27:45seven not out. They then proceeded to bowl out Old Wilsonians for just one
- 27:49hundred and thirteen, winning the game by a massive two hundred and one runs.
- 27:53This result keeps Folks on the top of the table, but second place
- 27:56Harville are breathing down their necks. Both teams still have identical records. Played
- 28:02four and one four this Saturday. Folks then traveled to Beckenham to play O
- 28:07D Quacko. Now I have to look this up every cricket season, and
- 28:12I had struggled this year actually, But in two thousand and one there was
- 28:17a team called the Old Dunstonians which was OD and they merged with a commercial
- 28:22union something or other. I managed to work the CU out but aco I'm
- 28:27not quite sure about it, but it must have a cricket word in there,
- 28:30so they're just known as O D Quacko. Now moving on to Hawkins,
- 28:36Well, they had a bad day at home to Sheppy, who won
- 28:37the toss, put Hawkins into bat and then bowled them all out for fifty
- 28:41two runs. Shepby then made fifty three runs, losing just four wickets and
- 28:47won the game by six wickets. This pushed Hawkins down into fourth place.
- 28:51So let's hope for better things this weekend when they welcome Minster. Now.
- 28:55By the way, there are two minsters. The ones that visit Hawkings on
- 28:57Saturday also come from the Isle of Sheppey and the other Minster Cricket Club is
- 29:03on the isle of Thanet. Now. In another low scoring game, Hyde
- 29:07Cricket Club won the toss against Kennington and decided to field. They then bowled
- 29:11out Kennington for sixty seven. Their highest scorer was Adam Leins who made ten.
- 29:17I've then achieved the sixty eight runs required, losing just the one wicket
- 29:21of Matt Ford who made twenty six. This Saturday and Nelson Cricket Club from
- 29:25Thanet are the visitors to the Grove. Hythe Green were put into bat at
- 29:29Willsborough and made one hundred and thirty five. Highest scorer was Oliver King,
- 29:33not out for twenty nine. Then Willsboro took to the crease and scored one
- 29:37hundred and thirty six, winning the game by three wickets. This Saturday,
- 29:41the Green are at home to worth Worth is a little place near Sandwich Saw.
- 29:48We're at home to Tentendon who batted first and made one hundred and fifty
- 29:51six sew Ward then scored one hundred and fifty seven runs necessary highest scorer was
- 29:56Arthur Leaver who made seventy four, helping Saltword to a four wicket. This
- 30:00Saturday, Saltwood are at home to Kennington now Sipton Park. They made a
- 30:06good start at up Church batting first, making two hundred and thirty three for
- 30:10three. Then they bowled out up Church for one hundred and sixty six,
- 30:14winning the game by sixty seven runs. This Saturday they're away to Ashford Town,
- 30:18who play their cricket at Stations Park in Kings North, just outside Ashford.
- 30:23Now the weather looks good for cricket at the moment for the weekend,
- 30:27so let's hope. I've got six more reports to bring you next time.
- 30:32Now time a bit of music now from Miley Cyrus and a song called Prisoner
- 30:36Prison. A prisoner lot can't get you on moment, let me go Miley
- 30:45Cyrus there, Miley Cyrus there and a song called Prisoner. Now we're going
- 30:48to talk about park Run now. The very first park Run took place in
- 30:52Bushy Park, which is near so Hampton Court and the River Thames, back
- 30:56in October two thousand and four, that's nearly twenty years ago, and folks
- 31:00then celebrate their tenth anniversary in August this year. Last Saturday, there was
- 31:04no focus in park Run due to other events on the lease, so it
- 31:08gave runners a chance to become tourists, which is where with your barcode you
- 31:12can visit any one of the other two thousand, three hundred locations worldwide or
- 31:18the one thousand, two hundred and sixty three in the UK. And don't
- 31:22forget it is free. Starts at nine o'clock anywhere around the globe, depending
- 31:26what times are on your intercourse. Now excuse me. Many try to do
- 31:30the eight Z of venues and many head for Bushy Park as it's become the
- 31:36mecca or the shrine of park runs, and they regularly get a thousand people
- 31:41they're turning up every Saturday. That's a thousand. I mean, just imagine
- 31:45that the infrastructure that they have to, you know, the volunteers. They
- 31:48have to get so many volunteers every single week and so they must have a
- 31:52huge pool of people that are really really keen up. There. Local runners
- 31:56became tourists for the day and we had headed off to Bushy Park. Others
- 32:01headed off to Eastbourne, Ashford, Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells, Thetford in Norfolk,
- 32:08Southwark in London, Margate, Pegwell Bay, water Grove which is in
- 32:14Rochdale in Greater Manchester, Tooting Common in London, Worthing, Mule Valley which
- 32:20is in Dowkin, As the Dawkins in Surrey, Fort William in Scotland,
- 32:23Warmer and Deal, the Cyclopark in Sittingbourne, Sutcliffe in Elton, Moat Park
- 32:30in Maidstone, and many went just down the road to Dover Waterfront, which
- 32:35is nice as they had run canceled recently due to the town being gridlocked with
- 32:40traffic. If you remember that bank holl of the weekend. Now, if
- 32:44you want to get into running and complete a park run which is three miles
- 32:47or five k, the best thing to do is to find a training program
- 32:52or better still, find a running group that do a couch to five k
- 32:55for beginner's course where you can take it gradually and finally peak and do your
- 33:00park run. Now, the one last thing, the very first part run
- 33:05in Folkston was on the sixteenth of August twenty fourteen. Were you there?
- 33:09I was, I wasn't running. I was there, though, I mean
- 33:14did you run it? If you did, and we'd be lovely to see
- 33:16you back at the tenth birthday anniversary. Now the nearest Saturday, because the
- 33:22things going on up the lease is on August to twenty fourth, so put
- 33:27that date in your diary and that would be the celebratory tenth birthday of the
- 33:30Folkstone Park Run. And we'd love to get as many people there that actually
- 33:36did the first part run. Even if you didn't run it, then please
- 33:38please come along and support these guys. Okay, coming up now, we
- 33:43got to sugar Babes and round round, sugar Babes round. Okay, I'm
- 34:00just going to squeeze in a bit of football news before we go. Who's
- 34:02gone so quickly today? What we interviews and redoubts and stuff. So now
- 34:07as managed to try and sort things out for the forthcoming season. Andy Drury
- 34:12at Folkson in Victor has made three new signers this week. Left back Frankie
- 34:15Morgan has joined in Victor from Sheppard United and Spanish player I'm sure he's try
- 34:22and get this right. Juan Luce who had experienced as a thirteen year old
- 34:25with Barcelona and in more recent times with Worthing and Maystone where he was a
- 34:30former and National League South Player of the Year. So that's a pretty good
- 34:35pedigree, isn't it. And also Dan Smith, forward from Bogner, who
- 34:38likes to hit the back of the net. I'm sure, so they might
- 34:42be three favorites there down at Folkston. Meanwhile, down to High though it
- 34:47was sad News, has experienced Frannie Colin and goalscorer Johann Kaney Brown both signed
- 34:52for Faversham and after twelve years in Victor, experienced physio Abby Winstanley has joined
- 34:59the team. Down at Hive. Hawkinstown have announced a new assistant manager in
- 35:04Mark Richards. Mark rejoins manager Andrew Crush where they both work together molding a
- 35:07very successful deal Town reserve side for the last two years. So things looking
- 35:13good up there in hawkinch Okay. That's it for me for another week.
- 35:16I shall be on the mic dressed in Pink Race for Life on Sunday.
- 35:22So if you've got a shout out, if you've got someone that's raised loads
- 35:24and loads of money, then please please come and see me and we'll do
- 35:29the best we can to give them a hearty shout out and put a smile
- 35:32on their face. Okay, so we say goodbye now and I'll see you
- 35:37all next week as we listen to you be fourty every
